ingredients so this patio season grab yourself a certified original organic walker mill street brewery toured with purpose hey folks before we get to this week's episode i just wanna tell you about another podcast i think you might like it's called committed from i heart radio each week award winning journalist joe piazza shares extrordinary stories of ordinary couples like larry and linda a couple of after thirty three years of marriage decide to separate to save lives his life whether you're monogamous married or for some reason on tinder just looking for friends you confined committed wherever you find your other favorite podcasts i think you might like it now into the show i'm rob norman i'm edward norton and this is personal best among those calling is in office administrator mother of two in lover of downton abbey oh i love downton abbey yes so when my daughter is old enough we're gonna watch costume dramas and drink red wine this is why i had a guy but as sweet as she sounds like she's done something terrible broken promise yeah yeah and it hurts me it's like i feel really bad about it so colleen has a brother in law and cooking music and more recently painting and even though calling know a ton about art she's eight big fan of his work i feel like they're just really powerful their modus therefore recall lots of texture drips and spiders so it's like abstract expressionism boards abstract and she thinks about his paintings a lot especially when she sees other are even add like a coffee shop and i'd always be taking pictures of them and sending them to him and saying like look people are charging the mount of these kinds of painting so that's why he said to me why don't you go and and sell before and i said sure i could do this turns out of camp and that's why she's come to us colleen is terrible persuasion i can't sell anything anybody and i always take no for an answer she think you're really good salesperson he has no idea i didn't say anything i don't think he's ever thought about it and he's kind enough to have not presi on it he made this occurred in the website but it's white me for him which looks very good and i'm not certain if i think they did that in anticipation of me selling the saints and i've done pretty close did nothing how do you know you're selling things will be the right i mean i worked in retail when i was a student back in early odds and i could not sell anything do without any holes recharge and if a customer came in for example pair of nylons it was her job up so i would try sort of halfheartedly it'd be like well maybe you should get to one of the first one ribs you know that sort of thing and then they would there's like no i think the one and i think it sounds good and we've got the cash she's just a pushover when it comes to the stuff she always thinks she's being a bother because even though everyone has a right right to say no the things they don't wanna do i still feel like me asking somebody do something in them saying no is another way of insulting them like i don't work in sales i'm in minnesota twins right so like i'm not gonna be selling things today and i've actually kind of set up my life so i'm not right but i think everybody comes up with situations or encounter situations in their life where they have to speak up for themselves and it might not be sales directly but it's the same sort of wheelhouse right it's the same skill set nobody can get away from that interview art persuasive then you're at the mercy of everyone else's whims around you all the time so you are an immature art agent who convinced an artist paintings were worth a lot and they deserve to be by withholding the truth but you're terrible sales in you have no idea how to self that's it makes me look really bad kony needs to be a better persuader as they help us understand the world the sales i need a salesperson but not any old salesperson clutching a binder of dusty drapery samples apple's no i want the living incarnation of the architect ical salesperson you're only this is looming drilling yet return the call will moment to talk about death of a salesman us wondering and when will there you're going off of what now i'm calling because who better to give sells his vice the name real life willy loman the teachers are dead salesman from the famous nineteen forty nine play death of a salesman like this really from indiana much else gives me i have to name but never saw the movie in a way i i know he's kind of a sad sack i believe you guys i think i think that's right so this woman colleen do you have any advice for her oh man baby persuasion is about getting point of view cross that person has a see whether that's positive or negative attends pretty powerful well on the fly here i think it's about the best i could do an where we reaching you worry right now well i'm i'm actually driving my truck right now i'm driving you're driving a symmetric yeah could you do me a favor could you pull the horn well i got a couple of people driving by just hang on another one here okay i hear it will we just persuaded you do something you add but it wasn't very hard and then we also called people who played lawman like charlie robinson who dawn between jacket and briefcase in two thousand thirteen the things i really usually people that feel really good salespeople it's something about the unfortunately you know you really don't wanna know because i mean let's let's be honest there tricky tricky that's the problem that we're going to i want to sit back here on what was it like when you got the part of willy loman i learned so much about myself after getting that part and you know what it is is that you do it for four weeks it may seem as though it is being repeated but truth be told his bed every night you learn something through repetition every night you learn something repetition repetition i think the computers broken hold on there it's a wonderful study in here's darryl mullins who while crowds in his performance in the community players at salisbury production did that play back in february i think just a little local community theater production i thought were these guys find me you know i was just wondering what the secrets just selling someone something a well it's interesting you should ask me that question because when i'm not dabbling in amateur community theater i am a professor of communication at a local university in one of the courses that teaches persuasion it's very funny so i i could sort of answer that question for a couple of different perspectives whenever i teach that course i start with aristotle you know who's considered kind of the the the great great granddaddy of of human persuasion and he said there were three building blocks persuasion there's ethos which is appealing to your own reputation and image there's pathos appealing to the emotions of your audience and then there's logos which is appealing to la check you know why it makes sense to buy whatever it is you're selling if willy loman let's hear what advice do you think he would give colleen he he would say i think make sure you get to know the person that you're trying to sell to and convince them that you are their friends you know i know what you're life is life because i lifted to i think we need to start with something hands on recalling you know start building those persuasion muscles end ideally without doing any actual selling me in rob in or associate producer just shane are sitting on the stoop inside the cbc building we have something very special and the way i'm really excited so excited that we got here forty minutes early but that is giving us plenty of time for just to fill us in about her dad's entire hair loss treatment that doesn't require needles should get that and then after another twenty minutes either right there yeah yeah he's he's driving past a truck driving past us a you know it's turning right and be full service ice cream truck we rented finally pulls up onto the sidewalk inconveniencing downtime pedestrians but it is so worth i've never been in an ice cream truck before are men cost us gives us a tour sunday saucer but this truck is missing one thing so what you're disconnected the music no way when did it break a like three months ago i went over a speed bump a little bit too fast and disconnected music and ice cream truck with a music man just just the tracks in the midst of all important food handling training were receiving we remember that colinas here she's the guest from this episode we've been thinking a lot about help you with sales and i think we found the perfect solution okay and it's waiting for you just around the corner scream nobody's in a bad mood when they're buying ice cream end today the ice cream is all free any free ice cream nobody can get mad at me for that great but coins mission today is to convince people not to take you scream so she could practice her persuasive miss without having to sell in fact it's like be exact opposite of a sale that that's much harder but to help lessen the blow this bad news i explain it to her while eating ice cream and you know when someone goes you know what never mind a win is if someone says you know what never mind and all them to not want that cone and walk away emptyhanded i some ideas are already concerned stewart ladies and gentlemen let the free rein began to be open for business open road and you let me see here today i named don okay i'm really sick have worn you have a really bad cold until try not the reins on you're i mean this is not good ice cream ice cream yes but this is like smeltzer appropriately just because of the truck but it didn't even play the song i personally wouldn't eat it like i just had lunch myself and i think you need ice cream on top of that don't say that because then you wanna eat it no yeah i know but i just i be honest with you i can't let you just eat ice cream i don't think you should be eating it so i'm gonna be one of those side of the truck is now about twenty people so kaleen really crank supper tycoon rhetoric i'm not gonna want that it's gonna be like you had a beer with what you're gonna feel tired like half an hour ago did you did you lose their job is convinced will not take it and people really upset leaving liquor ice cream you're doing great people are mad but she hasn't really dissuaded anyone colleen has one final ace up her sticky soft serve so we've around the really nice lots of sneaky they make her face look really nice thank you yeah you you might look like we could be related do you find me a little bit itchy stolen stolen she asked me a bunch of questions he's been filibuster you know even though were not related we could probably still be friends so why don't you give me a number sure and then we could hang out sometime sure you're gonna do that before i give you the ice cream hearing you right on that name your phone number or email because you could get ready you'll need give me the same thing so she has everyone in line right down their personal info before they come in one lady one lady is like nah no thanks in walks off but except for her everyone walked away from that truck with free ice cream but i'm sure she learned and important lesson from activity it was hard really hard okay well at least we all had fun it was emotionally draining really emotionally draining and i felt shitty oh my after this i'm not ready to sell not not confident enough in my selling facility with a packed when he comes story to his daughter could activity so maybe instead of avoiding selling we need to master selling really embrace sales culture i'm thinking one of those massive conferences where a man with a headset yells at you over and over and over again until somehow you're inspired but i googled it and those things like ten thousand bucks a ticket so we can't afford that but do you know who doesn't have to pay for sale seminar that guy in a headset running that sale seminar that's why i'm introducing the power of you a sales workshop for the new millennium or you interested in improving your sales are you interested in success what would you do to make the sale is it enough in this workshop we believe that everything you need need is already insight into most free sales conference an i just reviewed the poster i put my all over the cbc building you know i got in trouble for that poster what happened are boss confronted me about it on friday after you left with what happened you always do this you push me to do stupid things and then i'm the one who gets in shift for it fortunately the power of you is they movement cannot be stopped by injuries pathological fear of authority figures now just sit back and wait the city's most tenacious they'll spoke to show up and i hope they do because i have no idea what i'm talking about i'm embiid largest conference room at the cbc would be smaller crowds i've ever seen six people so to make this more legitimate my laptop up to a projector and i've made this image of says the power of you and it's got a picture of rob on it and it's an old headshot where he's wearing this white colored shirt it's a real conversation starter here in the crowd idea called against china bring us into a cult it says like gentle smile on his like demeanor i know it looks bad but not of course not now all hail the one true leader okay folks let's get started okay let's get it started in here massive round of applause for rob norman how many people here who work in sales or convincing someone on a daily basis most people everyone i believe very very deeply that everything that you need to know about sales you already know everyone industrial industrial already has the answer to making that sale which i'm hoping is true colleen needs practical useful information and what could be more useful the oldest sales lessen the book and that book just happens to be the film the wolf of wall street do you know that scene where we are caprio makes a crowd of people celebrating a pen will work doing it with pencil and you'll have a minute and a half to convince your partner they need this pencil when you're mark get set go watching real says folk and action is incredible some news arguments showing what i have here for you is a pen so there hasn't been amazing there is a i personally love having a pencil and a notebook second right down all my thoughts exactly when i have no worries i'll find a sharper simon and show some lean on their reputations you tations see me i've been in the pencil industry for about twenty years now i have extensive knowledge in terms of pencils others taking more dramatic approach you told them to do now is helping one of my favorite quotes from the philosopher williams invented autumn's razor and he said to his king protect me with your sword and i will protect you with my pen i also had the breaking some small groups so i'm gonna give you some self situation then i gave them my theoretical case study case so are scenarios colleen is selling her brotherinlaw's artwork a there's a local coffee shop on my display his work what is calling the best approach and we discuss it and we realize that it has to be painted as a mutual matt benefit for both parties first of all i would say what is she not doing correct no water tactics i think she could actually have a very good a so i think she has everything that she needs i also implemented a strategy teachers have used for centuries when they've forgotten their lesson plan or their hung over it's called the socratic method the teacher asked the question in students discover crews by contemplating me answer or in my case recording answers and then passing off their insight that's my own i throw it a few sales terms to get the conversation started closing what is that term me asking that final question leading towards getting that yes basically as because what about qualified a qualifying believes just figure out who the person actually need product and the most important of the mall v objection objections to the way i think of it as just a you know the the prospect is trying to buy something then whenever they they had the point of by the get that feeling of all i just might be the wrong decision of what my laugh at me on my making mistake and you know they say something interest that i think about it or they just that smokescreen to get you to leave you have to go through several different objections and you have to overcome at least three objections defined the real reason and typically the fear is can they afford this are they venturous enough to take on this product or event that they're going to that's jackie she's a sales manager she is released holding up her end of the socratic darla i would think back like eight years ago like the first time somebody said no like that hurts the first time somebody said call me back and then they didn't pick up that hurts but it's a muscle so so whether or not this person might say no to you it's okay because he kept training yourself for the next person and without ron dark thrown into the night but not without first trying a new slogan for future speaking engagement i'm driving at night everyone to have him say we do because right now they're saying you have the power who's on the fly why i wasn't thinking it through you mentioned i have the power plural you you society has power now we have another things how kobe remember daryl the dude who played really well man who also happen to be a professor of communication he talked about aristotle's three modes of persuasion logos pay those those which is leveraging the credibility of the seller in that's where we wanna help cones never sold art she has no reputation to leverage until now we have a surprise gift for her it just international arts sales and that's my real phone number and email address it says toronto london leone cape town and mel no this is a business card all right we went ahead in deputized are selves that's her sister park dealers on her behalf we made some international art deals yeah we had her brother in law famous could tell by the way we had in crete eight half dozen cue cards i mean things so we have all these three by five inch mini paintings and envelopes and a whole lot of posts and then with the help of our listeners redistributed be told the originals across the globe i i'm i'm from done right here in dublin individual range from i'm from these hassle stralia false and i just got my catella dope painting and just cut my original to tell day painting tennessee bc and that's where officials cool pretty cool little smaller and i thought the title of the us is actually kind todd chief free so i'm not sure if it says the power of you love all of you all right well this is exciting congratulations on the coming in international dealer i have an envelope fur coat leaves well seven dollars five six seven eight cents to make these deals real we had each person who received a painting pay pal us one dollar that is you're earnings from international are to wow now she has an actual business card chicken leave with these coffee shops when she's trying to get her brother in law art but that feels a little silly you're embarrassed using maybe a little bit yeah because it's it's not true right like it is true it is true because they are hanging in international cities now so it's technically not a lie so yeah i'm not hearing the killer instinct stinks like the killer sales instinct i'm thinking about alec baldwin in the scene from glengarry glen ross copies were closer yeah that one put that coffee down crawfish closes own music i'm with you i'm not i'm here from downtown i'm here from mitch and murray and i'm here on a mission of mercy names levine and you call yourself a salesman you son of a bitch and i'm gonna listen to the ship you certainly don't file but the good news is you're fired the bad news is you're got all you got just one week to regain your job starting with tonight that's the tenacity you need making sales and that's not komi rights which is calling if i could sell one of his paintings that would be like i can't even imagine that happening and that's how big a deal that would be ball ball ball ball colleen an amateur international art dealer needs to learn the craft of persuasion we posted a sales conference gave away free ice cream and interviewed real willie loehmann's now i know you're thinking sinking if those thoughtful activities failed then surely nothing can solve this impossible predicament were all in but allow me the quail you're busy mind dear listener by sharing you we have one last play it's the middle of the day in coleen arrives at an unknown location it's industrial plaza she's greeted by associate producer gesturing who blindfolds her whisks up a flight of stairs there's an outfit on iraq a note invites her put it on danny here with a blindfold on in a bathroom said in a tie i feel silly that's okay it's the best looking student jacket i could find i'd be very picked over thrift store near my house colleen is then rebe blindfolded and just walks her through a doorway it's a nineteen fifties office there's a bunch of desks the station for coffee and donuts standing in front of her is a man wearing a suit only only welcome come by how was one sheer let me get you're blind hey you better sitting behind a desk go willy kaleen a bit confused sitter large wooden desk there's a phone table top lamps and pen he's also got some awards in top salesman nineteen seventy seven to william her co worker levine is in a tizzy oh you will not believe why half man's i had someone on the hawks almost five braves nine long coleen is in the middle of a play and yet she's the titular character out of the corner of arrives kaleen sees a slip of paper in her desk for legos pantyhose surplus one hundred percent nylon five pairs for twenty five dollars or seven dollars each she's interrupted by her very tall assistant is danger mr lohman i just want to thank you so much for taking me on his ear system let me just coffee every drama needs conflict andrew me the district manager plus the coffee down coffees closures no i am not kidding with you i'm here from downtown from mitch and marie i'm here on a mission of mercy some say hotshot no nothing to say no you're fired you're all fire that's the good news the bad news you've one chance to get your jobs back or having a competition first prize the set a steak knife second prize guys also a set of steak knives third pry steak knives we buy are prizes in bulk fourth prizes you're fired these oh you're leads call them make the sale or call a cab explains here wife while you're fired you have one hour losers oh boy all right so this is a mash up of death of a salesman in glengarry glen ross customize demise fully immersive simulation designed to distill years of high pressure sales experience angel one afternoon she's got three leads and they're not easy cells sir let me know when you're ready to call you proceed okay i guess i'd better jump right in oh hello this is currently this is calling from legos pantyhose surplus how're you doing today are good and great how are you pretty good yeah i'm just a following up with you because i thought we had a really good conversation the other day and i wanna know if you were interested in taking up sort of those tenuous telling you that oh okay oh i'm so sorry i'm just moving furniture in my house right now it's just gonna take a second is just gonna take a second i'm sorry i scratched where i will win you must know somebody who does you must have a partner somebody who's gonna be wearing nylons you know what i really don't i don't think so not really my so i'm just very ima apprehensive about trusting sales people you know i've burned in the past you wouldn't think of me as a salesperson i thought when i kind of shared a kindred spirit about it well you know what i'll think about it now get back thank you for your time i just don't think i'm gonna go ahead and say i obser i gotta go okay zero four three just in her colleague hangs up the phone yes i made one say how did you do willie i get any none none no no sales they're saying a charity collector things and go you're fired oh look really i guess you better get you're blindfold on and go home yeah blindfolded and fired combing stumbles off into the dark and ryan willie arrives his brooklyn apartment where he's loving wife linda which really oh oh come on in here willie what you match the car did you work today i tried to make sale they did make any sale i got fired and you continue like there's a new day and you get a fresh stars blindfold darkness and then willy nilly welcome how was london sheer let me get you a blindfold off oh there you are hey you better get going is trapped in a community theater play that loops over and over again so were doing groundhog day now to occur in like clockwork here's the manager put the coffee down coffee closures she tries to make himself on the phone i can tell you that nylons will be the perfect perfect addition to your wardrobe i dunno i think about it gets fired no surprise here you're fired let me tell my wife and had told willy willy oh come on in here willie over weli lay end over end over end how one year let me get you're blind pulled off remember charlie who played willy loman he said each time he performed the role you learn something new so that's are plant combing can't escape until she figures out how make all three sale now each repetition isn't exactly the same each new round we plant little clues the helper along the way what do you see anything promising they're empty cork board suddenly now has a cue cards upon it remember winston with logic remember you're reputation remembered make it personal that's right a little aristotle mr lohman i just wanna thank you so much for taking on his you're assistant you know when i come into the office i like to start my day with the donut you should go help yourself to a donut me i think so i don't i don't have a donut miserable that okay all right interesting make them feel like you've lived their life moments you know you should check out the coffee maker you know whenever on down i always coffee injections they're like a smokescreen a reason someone gives you not making a sale every sale you usually have to overcome three objection maybe they're afraid convince them to eat ventura good coffee that you made going three for another round of golf at this point she's been in the simulation for almost an hour i'm exhausted only imagine how she feels let's do carly okay let me just let me just let me think about when i'm sitting here top salesman she's talking with the top salesman okay let's try again currently before i tell you what the deal i just have the tell you if you buy them from me today you're being adventurous you're doing something sort of out of the bar oh okay and then you're gonna go out for brunch if you're girlfriends and they're gonna be like are you die but they're gonna look at you and they're gonna be like wow yeah wow yeah okay yeah that sounds really good yeah it sounds really good i think that's a failed great next up andrea andrea i you know i forgot to ask you you know like what kind of things you know are you into doing what you're kids maybe not with their kids when you've got some free times i just like to relax at home with my husband me kind of watch netflix watching right now a little bit of suits but mostly i just finished downton abbey huge ferry oh you've you've seen it all yeah that's awesome it's my favorite show yeah i killed me though at the beginning i can't believe that they killed lady civil off that just all that killed after a bit of banter about whether or not ladies family should have heeded the warnings of the country doctor and gone to the hospital had the go it's time for coleen to get down to brass tacks i can get you five parents were twenty five bucks that's what a deal that you're gonna find online or in store yeah well i would definitely like update my style but i don't think they're not gonna be great in the parks and stuff like when i'm running running the kids like they're gonna tear i've never ever torn them no never tournament the park now really oh yeah i do it all the time she wears them oh really okay well maybe i'll go ahead of that actually that's awesome android to sales could do a mystery woman one more sales ago she's been at these calls for a long time but this isn't the komi nissan ice cream shop worn down coli these miss sales have and we made her hungry i want those steak knife hello hey what do you wearing right now it's it's colleen i'm just checking in on what you're wearing 'cause i'm wondering if you're legs are hot provider customer is andrew will not the producer andrew you should just used another name for this guy because it's very confusing arthur louis or are allowed to be named andrew andrew in secondary andrew is a man with no time for patios kids they're doing it doing adults were doing it they're wearing pantyhose underpants you're afraid of what what what he really afraid of what's holding you back here i'll tell you what you said one for seven dollars i can send you one for seven dollars yeah why take the risk tryout one pair seven dollars you were not gonna read this okay thank you all right by andrew justin we loehmann's wife linda burston i just got off the phone with mr blake really i knew you had it in you i worked my ass off to get those sales and i feel i feel great i feel like i could sell any host anybody right now anybody who walked in here who needed pantyhose i would seldom seldom this anyhow that's an i did it you did it yeah she's gone from expecting a no to to believing that she's worth but yes but who knows if that'll hold up outside the confines of the glengarry glen ross death of a salesman groundhog day infinity loop community theater play so colleen has a week to complete her final test in the real world but it won't be easy you'll need a strategy killer instinct confidence so i went on monday in the paintings are currently in oh josh yet that was very quick very quick yeah that's great it happened yeah they're hanging right now at a coffee my neighborhood basically she just force yourself to go and i was really nervous and i was like walking over there and i was like doing the whole like imagining him saying yes thing and i was like visualizing success for real had already played out how the conversation we gotta go i had some techniques in my back pocket i was gonna use if i had objections but she showed up and was like hey do you wanna change we art on the walls a few shows you owner her brother in law paintings andy owner dude is like yeah sure i'll put it up after i did it after he said yes and i sat down i picked up my phone had a text my husband said don't chicken out and i was like i didn't chicken out that would be the larger changes they feel braver now i just feel braver she found the courage to say to herself i'm not being a bother me i'm valuable i'm worth something i don't know if i'd go that far because i think this level of bravery that i had to summon from the depths like a normal person's level of bravery but i wasn't afraid of the possibility that makes you know colleen are you a closer yes i am a close yeah i definitely closed at innocuous we have something for you it just set a But I went down there and and Shannon you're a little guy. Have you ever been to the area where Shawnee High? School is yeah. I've been there win. I can't remember I'm sure I've been there though in years past. Well, I have not been. Yeah. I, mean. Unless you're going to Shawnee high school I don't know what you'd be doing down there I mean there's just not a lot there. But it's Something over there. Well, there is but not next high school but yes, there is a Shawnee Park over on the if you keep going down there but it's on like thirty four and market or something like that. and I went out there and Ryan. It was a fascinating thing because when I got there, there was almost nobody there i. mean there was Jackson. County. Brought probably forty or fifty fans out of school bus. Mostly I think family members of the players Shawnee had probably. Seventy five people there. But there wasn't very many there. But I went there to watch these two, these two places play, and if you missed show Friday Jackson County is on the edge of Eastern Kentucky is the most Republican County in the state aid is also one of the poorest counties in the state. Shawnee is in the precinct voted for Hillary Clinton more than any precinct in the state, and it is also one of the poorest places in the state. And these two areas besides the fact that both have struggles. Probably have on paper very little in common, but they played this game because Sean. He couldn't find teams to come and play because people were said they were worried about safety. It was one of the best experiences that I've ever had and I mean that. Right for the game, they brought the two teams out to midfield and the coach of Jackson County gave a speech and it was an awesome speech and as I was watching it, I thought to Myself Man I. Wish. America could hear this last quickly started filming it. And you probably at this point have seen it was on my twitter. It's now gone viral I think it's been seen a half million times by now espn contacted me and asked me if they could use it I don't know if have or not or if they will. But I gave permission, we'll see if they do at some point. But. Basically, he got up and said, look the world says we got nothing in common but we do. We're going to show everybody tonight. and. Like I said I planned on staying a few minutes I ended up staying for the whole game. These two schools I think it's fair to say neither are great at football. They mostly lose I. Think Shawny has lost fifty five straight games. Jackson county's record has not been great. But those kids were as into that game as I've ever seen, they were intense. They were passionate close it was competitive. And I was so proud of everyone there. It was senior night at Shawny and as those players would get introduced the Jackson County fans from deepen APPALACHIA got up and cheered every player. At the end of the game after Jackson County had won the Shawnee fans gave them an ovation. When do you see that almost never but they did. And when the game was over at on the field, the two teams hugged each other in a way that's not normal for these kind of things and I watched them have conversations. I listened to these kids from these places. Say We gotta do this again they took a group picture with all of them hugging each other. And I found it to be like one of the most inspiring things. I've been around. As the course of the game went on after I sent out that video I think there were people in Louisville who just wanted to be there because there weren't that many people at the beginning of the game by the end of the game, it looks like the crowd doubled. And when it was over, you know Jackson County had to drive two and a half hours but nobody was really in a hurry. Some local business decided to buy both teams pizza they sat around and ate pizza for a while. And Maybe, my favorite part was the media showed up by the end of the game. And at the end of the game, the media was interviewing these kids and you could see how excited these kids were because these teams are very good. They don't get interviewed very much. And they were in the excitement on their face of even being interviewed by television station. It was just awesome to see and I want to those two coaches from Jackson County from Shawny deserve all the credit in the world I talked to the Shawnee principal they're going to Jackson. County. Next year and they hope to set up a partnership where these two schools will play each other in a lot of sports. As a way to continue to sort of you know interact with each other. oftentimes when you turn on television especially in the last few months, it just feels like we're all at war with each other all the time. But in the real world, I've always believed we have more in common than we don't. And if I was ever wavering on that. Friday night at Shawnee high school was proved that we do. and. I needed that sort of uplift I'll be honest with you and Ryan it was one of the coolest things I've been a part of in a long time. Not just you need it. We we all need it and he's sixteen seventeen, eighteen year old kids. Are showing US life lessons that we can all learn from I. You know we talked about this and the previous two I. I love this story. This is going to be one of my favorite stories in a long time. Don't care about football don't care who wanted to game but what they're showing us these kids from inner. City Louisville and these kids from rural Appalachia Kentucky. Come together and play football. They just WanNa play Football Matt and. All black team and an all white team it doesn't matter they just WanNa play, and so they're teaching us life lessons. We can all learn from and I. I love it and you need to see match video of coach Alex Story Pre game speech because it'll give you chills it's off and if you've seen that video and you didn't see the picture that I sent out after look for that to where all the players are kind of you know their arms around each other for a picture after the game. I hope we can see more of this happening. Eighty dollars the I can't remember who said it. I wish I could remember there's some famous. Quote. That's basically like the cure for prejudice is interaction with each other. And I completely agree with that. and. I watched a man from Jackson County. A Big Dude who was wearing overall. I mean wearing overalls Shannon in West Louisville right and he was standing there with these two African American women and they were having a conversation for a long time. and. I was stayed at Charles Booker now is like that group of people never talk to each I you know what I mean like there's not a scenario but they were laughing and talking to each other for a long period of time and Shannon thought see that's what's got to happen because like that conversation otherwise would never take place. That's really cool to hear. That's not like you said that's not something you see in West? Very often Guy Jackson County Jackson County is all for the most part you know like that just is not something you see and I I just really want to say my appreciation for coach Hallaq and I'm sorry I've forgotten the Name of the coach at Shawnee but he deserves credit as well. The administration's it was just a really cool night and I hope that nationally somebody picks up that story I mean, he's got a lot of play here in Kentucky I hope he gets picked up nationally I I talked yesterday to Scott Van Pelt about it and he was excited about it but he was like I'm off right now. So I hope somebody picks it up because it deserves to be picked up. It's a good model for the rest of the country whose name Jalen. Harrington, is the Shawnee? Sherrington. Yes. co-chaired. Whose Neck Jason Jason Jason. This is a this is baby matt. How're YOU DOING EMMA? Baby how are you? I'm doing good a couple of things I noticed from the game. It's the little things that make the biggest difference now we all know. About the AJ rose and him being the senior that's what really hurts because it lets us know you know you gotta be disciplined. You're a senior and you're supposed to be a leader, but there was another time. Miss. Started the game with a huge drive I mean they ripped off like fifty yards and then we stopped them on like the second down. And Josh Paschal. Starts talking talking about and I'm thinking to myself. This isn't the time brother just ripped off fifty yards next play they get a first down there was another plan, the game where forty four, who made a lot of good tackles fourth on defense. He flicks after stopping somebody at the goal line or not the goal line at the line of scrimmage, but then the next play. Oh. Get the first down. So it's like, okay once the teams plenty to us and you're jogging to the sideline, I understand talk your smack, but we got to be a lot more disciplined. I mean. If we take care of the little things, you know we can salvage the season. That's I'm with you. Completely I appreciate Khan I totally agree with all that we talk too much and accomplish too little I'm all for talking you know there are some people who say talk trash that's just not the world we. Live in now and you can wish it was different, but it is these news go out on the court sometime people are all talking trash. It's fine I'm alright with it. But if you're gonNA talk you gotTa Show Up. You remember a few years ago Ryan Willie dyed his hair blonde and John Cal Perry said if you're GONNA die your hair blond you better play well, right Yep you'd better back up now if you're going to talk like especially our defense, our defense talks a lot more than our office. You're GonNa talk you better play. And we're talking and we're not play and I can't talk anymore. There's a couple of dudes on defense I'll watch talk jamine. Davis played I thought very well if he wants to talk I'm okay with that like you know Clinton Bohannon Marquand McCall thought did a pretty good job at knows if they WANNA talk I'm okay I don't want to hear our secondary say a word Like they should never talk we need to win and they need to get some interception. We haven't created a turnover yet like I want to see us do something right before we start yep it. Yeah and like you said, they were flexing and after they were just given up long plays give up a touchdown two minutes and thirty seconds into the game you better shut your Yap burn stop somebody I, for you say who was the dude was is What I can't pronounce his name, but the do the stop third seventeen. If he wants to talk after that play, I'm okay with that was a heck of a tackle. That was a great tackle. Yeah was but the rest of these guys, what did you have flex and Yap about when you're smoking almost every play? Who Tat who talks trash after a fifty are road. Bosnian, fat. He's the only person I know who does that Assistant to the Regional Manager Slam? With the With the trash talking five, Oh two, five, seven, one eighty at Kyi sports radio here Shannon I. WanNa, can I get an AD in here? You? Sure you can. You give me permission. As man has the relief valve on your water heater failed. Not yet but I'm sure it's going to eventually if it does it'll poor gallons of water into your basement or maybe you'll have an electrical shortage in your office that will cause smoke and water damage or maybe you have a musty odor like Ryan Lemon that indicates you might have a mold problem Ryan. What would you do then? I Call Shannon. No, you know you call sir, pro what would you? E. R. V. P. R. O.. That's one eight, hundred, zero pro. Pro Dot com make it like it never even happened. Don't call Shannon call certapro franchiser independently owned and operated, but it's there for you at serve pro dot com we'll take a break gary. Back. To. Talk About Jones in the crew called the Clark's pump and shop phone line at five, Oh two, five, seven, one, eighty, or one, eight, seven, seven, nine, four, hundred, eighty or just the Kentucky Brandon or tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at Kyi. Sports radio. You're listening to Kentucky Sports Radio on Talk Radio. Back taking sports radio. Seven, seven, two, seven, seven, four, five, two, five, four. Rights, Matt. Don't you think we should have more games where teams from eastern Kentucky play teams from wool I thought about that Ryan I would love to be able to do like some sort of bowl like preseason ballgame to set up three or four of those matchups that'd be really neat something to think about. I. Mean I. Don't know how you do that stuff. I talked about doing one of those sort of Boll Panoramas and then covert hit you know it didn't happen. But that would be a neat thing if you could. Yeah I think it would be awesome. Have A double-header tripleheader. Some some facility it'd be. One year you do it in the mountains when you're doing Louisville, right? Yeah. That'd be great. That'd be neat. Bobby Bowden just tested positive for cove in nineteen ninety years old. So prayers to bobby about by bad was one of my favorites when I was a kid Kentucky football stunk in the nineties and I kind of picked Florida state. Ryan is my second team and I really liked Bobby Bowden. Really Cares Guy Yeah I think most people have respect for him so we wish him well. I do want to give a chef. I can't we have our guy loyal listener. He calls in a low double D, he's in the hospital right now and always listening right now. So we want to give him a little shoutout to hope he's feeling better soon. Yes. Shout out double d you get better soon and we hope to hear from you soon. Rights Matt I was Sad Shannon wasn't here Friday. Does he have a big conspiracy theory about what's going on with the president? Do you have a conspiracy theory feels like you're always a conspiracy theory know what people actually believe that he doesn't have the corona. Virus. Kinds of things I don't think I think it's ridiculous to say he doesn't have I. Think he has it. Of course he has. Yeah he hasn't. So what's the conspiracy theory? I. Think I think they thought you might think something we no no no I think I think that's on the up and up I don't think he would fake that. Yeah I don't either he doesn't like to seem weak. He May. He may fake signing a piece of paper, but he's not going to fake. Been Funny Yeah they did you see that Ryan? They showed him Oh. Yes. Signing. and. It was a sharpie and a blank piece of paper which I liked. Yeah. Yeah I. Thought I saw the. Conspiracy theory out there that he was going to use these experimental drugs and come out you know healthy like, okay. See I told you. We were going to beat this. I am the hero we've got the drugs to be no, we're he'll definitely do that but that's not a conspiracy theory that's just who he is. If he beats this, which I hope he does he will brag about eating. That's what he does I mean that's of course, right? Yeah. Do you think let's make a prediction? Do you think they'll have any more debates? No. No. Can you drive with you? I don't know how you can do it now with. So many of the not just him but his staff everybody around him seem to have had to do a virtual debate where you gotta on. Mute them when they're in the same building. Can you imagine? It would be even easier. You just meet their screen I mean they do it on. It. Don't you think round the Day on his. People get mad if you museum. Bias. Somebody that'd be. Commute I just I know you have a time when your time's up it's an odd I got. Yes. But what if what if somebody interrupts don't interrupt your how you GonNa Interrupt? You don't have a Mike. You're saying, don't turn on their mind until it's their tire you go. ooh interesting. It's not that hard conte on assume that actually could work course it could. I don't know I. Just don't think they'll do I don't know how you do it. Right? I mean, they're saying they're going to have the vice presidential debate this week. Ryan I think that's kind of irresponsible too. Don't you? Yeah I was surprised when he said that just because somebody like I said it's been around the president, but it's not even just that he's next you don't. Like he's next in charge. Yeah. Try You would want to protect him more if he's next in line with thank you would put him in a bunker like if I was in charge of the world. Wouldn't you put Pinson a bunker right now? I'm being dead serious. I'm. Not even kidding. Wouldn't you Shannon? Maybe, he shows up to the debate in a has met suit then. I series until trump is like fine, right? I think I think you have to protect the vice president don't you have to protect them? Yeah. I don't know if you throw them in a bunker necessarily. Him under a room I'm just saying like he has a bubble of sort Scott. WHO's next after that Pelosi but they haven't they haven't done anything with her either. Got Chuck. Grassley like eighty six and like mowing the grass I don't know. I don't know all these people are so old in there pair. Everyone is so old when he young blood in there. Or something. Tom It gets less appealing by. WHAT'S UP TOM Man I never played football and I don't I don't understand the celebration ever. Claims but I gotTA say one thing I hope our staff never does. and that's the turnover chains and. Allman I. First of all, we'd have to get one. We haven't gotten a turnover so there's nothing to do. Yes but the turnover chain I don't know but they had a ole miss had a touchdown chain. See I like you and I disagree on that I think that's got Oh. Was it. At this trophy mentality. But it is. It's a trophy they earn. 'CAUSE THEY GOTTA turn over. Their job. Well I mean you get a I mean you have a job and if you get a bonus, isn't that? Would you say if your boss wanted to give you a bonus don't give me a bonus. It's my job. Sorry I just I just think that's just plain or play. Well I appreciate the call I. Disagree with that. I think those are fun. I didn't think it's funny that old mrs go get the bag. Did you notice that? The Guy who scored go get it no. No the the guy gets turnover gets a bag. It's supposed to be like a bag of money. Trouble for cheating Oh. Yeah. Yeah turnover chain. Overnight, we'll take a break. Thanks for listening to talking. Sports. Talk. To the White, House press secretary just tested positive. Kaley? mcenaney I think. They're all going to get. Yeah I, mean, they don't like they were mask. And I'm not saying they wouldn't have got it. But they're all gonna get it. So maybe they do need to throw him in a bunker. On saying. Look at how many people got it, and it looks like it all came from that one event on that Saturday and have you seen the pictures of that via the? Everybody tested positive and they're all surrounding Mike Pence. have. You seen that like they're all like? have. Basketball mask on and they're all sitting right next to Mike Pence. So if I am worried just about America, you've got to go protect Mike Pence don't you? Family like my pants, but you've got to protect the man you are. Politically Traits a bigger issue than that? That's why like. You. Know I mean I know there's an election coming in. That's unfortunate but like the continuity of government. Is is more important than this election as strange as that sounds to say, but it's the truth because the worst thing that could happen to this country is a vacuum of leadership. So you gotta, go protect him and that picture on they all have it all around him. Here's a decent chance. He might give it a try. You would think that you want to protect him, put him in a bubble somehow because he's our next in line. You bring up the point about the debate his debate on I would not send them to that debate I just I don't know how you do that. But what do I know? I'm not in charge of anything what you think of Jimmy Butler last night. Insane I mean. All of a sudden just decides like, Hey, man I'm going to be Lebron for one night and just everything. I mean like insane forty points how about this only the third player in the modern era to score forty points in NBA finals game and not make a three. Wow realize the other two are, let's say you to or smart who the other two people three point line start in like the seventies who are the other two people since the seventies to score forty points in the NBA final game and not even attempt three. Kareem Kareem is one well done and WHO's the second I want to say Jordan Jordan shot threes. Yes. I thought cream would be harder. You should get the other one. The other one to me is pretty obvious. Magic. Show. Shower yeah everything about shock me check taken either. But the thing about cream shack is that that's not even their games. So like of course, they didn't take thirties but butlers actually perimeter shooter and still scored Forty Ryan without even taking a three. And he hasn't been. countered onto kind of store scoring. Then all of a sudden last night is like, okay look guys. I'm going to step up tonight and take them to win that game with both Bam androgen. That's I mean Kelly Olympic had barely played the whole series. He comes in there and he's draining threes I mean that team I really enjoy watching that team. You talk about a group of people. I don't think they'll win the series I still think Lebron idea with but you talk about dudes who the whole is greater than the sum of the parts of the Miami Heat the perfect example of that. Yeah. No dynamic superstar on that team they played well, Tim Duncan Robinson for crying out loud their starters played. Shane and Dunkin Robinson played in college at a D. three school like. Ranchi. Literally. There's a dude in the NBA finals that went and played at a school like transit. US Don't see that in the NBA maybe a major league baseball, but you don't see maybe. Yeah. But not in the NBA, right I, mean like go watch Transi plays center this year and tell me which of those dudes playing in the NBA. It's an unbelievable story. It is an unbelievable story with these heat and like I said I don't think they'll win. They might win one more game but I think they probably lose in five but it was remarkable that they won that game last night. Now, the baseball divisional series what do they call this divisional series Ds the they they start today we'll play. Let's see the roads Pack I. Don't WanNa hear you. WanNa. Hear it listen they made the playoffs. That's. Mad You Myself Ryan could put three of us up there. We could've scored zero runs in two games we could have done that. I don't have enough I don't have time for. What we need to focus trash-talk last two days he was gone we didn't. What is the head is we have the Yankees play the reins. Who you got Yankees or raise well, I picked the Tampa Bay lightning parents live down there somewhat to pick the raise Tampa raise. Okay. Shane who you got raise. I'm taking the Yankees. You know what I did the other Night Ryan I listened I. Don't think I've talked about this on the Air I listened to the Yankees talk about that. Listen to the radio game the other night you may have the pre-game show because you've talked about it. I don't think was okay Sr.. Told you off the show anyway. Yeah, the Yankees. Color Announcer Shannon is like a seventy year old woman. And she's awesome. How long has she been doing this? She's been doing it since like five, and before that, she was like sort of like their sideline reporter but they car caller Ma Yankee She's the only color commentator for any pro sports franchise on radio that the woman there's a couple on TV like Carol Austin did although now she's at Duke but endorsed Burke but on radio and I listen to her and I was like I thought she was great. So anyway, just just a side note I didn't even know they had A. Female color commentator and they do. So I'm taking the Yankees Youtube. Got The race as Astros Ryan. Astros after all their controversy in the trash can gate here astros are back in it up taking them cheering for like the evil astros they're proven everybody wrong. They can still play Astros all right Shannon I'm still on the as. A picked them to go to the world. Series. All the way it did tell me one person that plays for the as Ricky Henderson Jose can. SACO. You. I don't know anybody. Who Simeon Is at first or last last name Okay Trevor Siemian. I don't remember his first name Simeon though. Simeon Rice. Football. I'm taking the as as well. So so you so Ryan Has Yankees Astros Shady's. Raise, Astro race astros she didn't raise as and I have Yankees as all right braves marlins Shannon. I assume you'll take the braves oh. Yeah. About Thirty Ryan who do you have? I'm going don mattingly the Miami Marlins Stay Hall you're just because the cardinals aren't that's right. I think the braves I remember for the braves. Now I, mean they go back on the bandwagon aren't you bet? I gotTA, pick shut up. Care I got to pick US UP MONEY. So I mean of the other teams I'll I'll pick the braves and then finally padres dodgers I'm at this very moment where padres sweatshirt that I bought. It I'll take the Padres Ryan. Who Do you? Pick padres, beat the Carta dodgers the best team in baseball. I don't think he's lost twenty games this year. Yeah, they have a lot of players. So there you go. There's your baseball preview who's next. Let's go. Darryl Darryl, how're you dare? Taylor. You doing good. What's up? A couple of quick thing I love to play in Patchy is the Because, person Spradlin is based feeling boy and I. Don't know if Y'all know this story Jacob Rice but he's a Johnson central point guard that Latam to the sweet sixteen, the all time games played later, they'll come to see us allegiance. He got an offer even though he did all that and school never offered, and then they went to moorhead played in in a merely an he. Kids up there in. Princeton Spradlin seen one day ended up giving him a spot on. New Routes. So there's a kid on moorhead who got an offer by playing intermurals. Yup Persons Bradley noticed. Mural. That's a great story. That's what everybody that plays intermurals ride hopes will happen and it never does happen and it happened for this kid and what's his name again? Gay Cabrera Jacob Rice I liked that well good for him anything else darrow. One more thing. Yeah I've been meaning to tell you this for a while you know I bought probably five copies of your for family and Friends but. I just want to commend you. For. The story that you talked about you know your sprung and. It really hit home and I WANNA to give Larry be tell out. There making the main yard. So you had the humble you detailed story and you know I really appreciate your. Well. Thank you. Sir that was. I thought it was important and I appreciate the call to. Talk about that in the book and I I've had I've had so many people note what that chapter about Taylor, county how it helped them and that was worth writing the book so I appreciate you. Noting that and by the way Ryan the paperback comes out. Tomorrow. I don't really know what that means. Exactly. I. Do know that the hardcover came out during coverted. and. Now the paper bag is coming out while the president is in the hospital. So timing has not been great Ryan for either of the of the book releases. Will coming out perfect time. If you're starting your Christmas shopping and you're looking a little stocking stuffer. To do media I once again had a big string of media to do at once again, it all canceled barrel. Hospital. Yes. Did it really? Yeah. I. Mean it is well. I do have the Andrew Yang podcasts. They comes out this week. So okay, good. But I had like seven different things setup Shannon and then they all this weekend we're like listen in the hospital so we're going to have to cancel that. Push back the delays the book a couple of weeks. Well you can't like. It's like all the bookstores already had they already have it. You can't. You can't do that. So well, it's fine. I mean the book sold pretty well for the books sold so well at the beginning that like it exceeded expectations and like the first two weeks. So it's all good but you know my ability to to to have to wear a suit and get out of this hooded sweatshirt has gone away for the rest of the Week Well Janet every time I WANNA do this my phone stops. We'll do it when we get back, let's take a break bags Kesar more. The chaos are blue lights across the bluegrass county by county virtual tour presented by the Kentucky off of Highway Safety after this to talk to Matt Jones and the crew called the Clark's pumping shop phone line at five, zero, five, seven, one, ten, eighty, or one, eight, seven, seven, nine, oh, four, eighty. Now back to Kentucky Sports Radio on talk. Radio Tanny so this. Really. With the pro football focus or whatever it is. They rate every player in college football every game. Okay. They give them a rating on. Did you do what you were supposed to do? All Right? Terry Wilson was the second highest rated quarterback. Josh Ali was the second highest rated wide receiver and it has just come out Chris Rodriguez was the highest rated running back. and. Yet we lost. Like I said, the problem was not the offense. Ladies Gentlemen Boys and girls it was right across the other side of the ball our defense defense look really think about that. I mean. We have the. Second Highest quarterback the second is wide receiver and the highest running back and we lost Shannon. Last two we beat them on paper just not on the field I mean you look at the stats everything would point to Kentucky winning what do you make of Chris Rodriguez being the number one and not Aj Rose Ryan. I I'm surprised I mean I knew he had a good game. Is he definitely our best running back. Do you think he is our best running back? Would you make Rodriguez the number one? He's he's our best guy. He's the guy. I mean, I know the staff loves AJ Rose I think he means a lot to the guys but Chris Rodriguez is our best running back. Text machine seven seven, two, four, five, two, five, four, one person writes Matt. Can you believe Kentucky's favored three points over Mississippi state that seems crazy to me. Doesn't seem crazy to me. I mean look. Here's the thing about Kentucky. Fans when we're good, we always think we're better than we are when we're bad we always think we're worse than we are. The reason we're at three point favorite is on paper we're probably even with them and the Games at our place I mean I know Mississippi State Lsu but then they lost at home to Arkansas so which ones the real Mississippi state I don't know if you watch K J Costello Oh against Lsu have thought he was fell quarterback. Arkansas he looked worse than anybody I've ever seen. So you know it is what it is. Now the big difference is lsu played man and Arkansas played zone. We play Zone A lot Ryan. So that's probably a good good sign for us but if I'm Vegas and I'm setting that spread I probably make. Kentucky. The favorite by small amount and that's what they did. I was surprised Mississippi State only scored fourteen points at home against Mississippi State. You call it. You said you wait Mike. Leach just. Seventeen point favorite and I to me that there were two games that I invested heavily in this week and I had a great sports gambling weekend. But the two games I invested heavily in Tennessee over Missouri. I thought that was a slam dunk and it was and then Arkansas Mississippi state I just I didn't pick Arkansas to win but I thought they'd cover and Ryan. They dominated the game. Yeah not only covered one dominated the game at home. Starkville Misano Man Mike Leach is the king of great game, terrible game great game, and that's why people wonder. Sometimes, why has no top programme ever hired him Ryan that's why schools like Texas Tech Washington State Michigan Mississippi State. They want guys like that. But if you're Auburn, you don't WanNa do like that. You gotTa have a dude who's consistent. So. Philosophies that he's GonNa have a great game against us well.
