I'm just going to throw some teams out there and you just tell me a real quick, real succinct if you think indeed they are contender. Or if they are pretender, the Titans go 23. And so on the year Monica are the Titans, a contender? Pretender running back like Derrick Henry. You're always in it. Okay, that Q B deal, though, makes me No, no, no. We believe in for lovers like that, Ryan Tannehill. I mean, who's there? Yeah. Phillips in Indy. Yeah. I want to speak with Derek Henry's abuse. But I don't really I'm not buying time. Okay, so pretender. I think they're Henry makes them especially in December when it gets cold nose tackle to her £40 member that The Pittsburgh Steelers Ashley Brewer. They, too, are 30 wound on Watson and the Texas Today are Big Ben and the Steelers. Legit contenders are.

"Trips to Minnesota. This has not been a friendly place for them, but To see it to know for the first time since they were 10 and no back in 2008 since the playoffs expanded back in 1990. They have made the playoffs in each of the three seasons. They started three, You know? How would they get there today? Not necessarily just on the arm of Ryan Tannehill or the legs of Derrick Henry. It was the right foot of Stephen Gostkowski, who had an opportunity to win the game. Lee right hand for the lead. Snap San can't got 55 yards for the lead. Wow, but I love the National Football League. Six for six. By Keith Day began its Titans radio Yes. Six for six. Remember first couple weeks of the season. Laskowski missed five times. Not today. Tennessee beats Minnesota 31 to 30 Ryan Tannehill didn't throw a touchdown pass. Today You had 11 games in a row with two or more touchdown passes, but Eric Henry got started his first two touchdowns in the season. 119 yards on the ground is the Titans are now three and so for the year back home and take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Also three and on the other side. Her cousins threw three touchdown passes on the day today, Dalvin Cook had 181 rushing yards and check this out. Justin Jefferson, the rookie wide receiver, seven catches 175 yards and a touchdown. All of it not enough. Minnesota Vikings have missed the playoffs all three times in their history. They started on three. That's.

"Believe it or not Ryan Tannehill. Should Is You should drop Ryan Tannehill Ryan Fitzpatrick believe it or not a buyer sell. I. Believe. You. Buy. Unbelievable. Be. Minus. There's GonNa come. This is the problem if you drop Tannahill. A No one's really going to race to pick them up if it's a one quarterback league but. In two weeks after Pittsburgh after Buffalo, he's got Houston Cincinnati Chicago the colts he's he's got a stretch in there where he's got some great match ups. Of course, we thought he had a really great matchup today and you didn't throw a touchdown for three hundred, twenty one yards. So let's give him that. But I don't. Know I don't think we're going to. Why. because. Every time he throws twenty-five passes and four touchdown passes I get to hear how about that regression heath. So when he throws for three hundred yards and no touchdowns, no p sucked I'm sorry. Okay. Let's GO TO OUR NEXT GAME Cleveland Thirty four in Washington twenty, heath. Believe it or not Kareem Hunt is a sell high. Six carries two catches and another touchdown. I. Don't mind trying to sell high on him. I don't know if I would put him in the sell high category. So I do not believe it. Would you rather have joe mixing or Kareem Hunt for the rest of the season I knew that question was coming I really i. I really am nervous about But. I'm also a little nervous about hunt. I'm encouraged that he had a game like this and what amounts to a blowout victory for the browns. I think I would lean toward hunt. I think you can sell I think you could possibly sell hunt for mixing. I definitely. And I don't want to do that and. I think I think the game script is going to be really important here you know if they have a lead although I, this was a pretty back and forth game but they did end up winning by fourteen 'cause when they're behind, it's going to be better for him right? I. Think so. Eight catches in three games. For Behind in one of the throne twelve, four of them were in that game where he was behind. But Yeah I guess what I'm thinking. What I'm saying is like the last two games they played again a been the bengals in the in Washington I mean what's going to happen when Kareem Hunt gets a game where he doesn't score a touchdown He's not going to score as many fancy points, right? Well, thanks for that. He was. Probably looking at. You know you're going GONNA freeze up when it comes to. Week one I guess he had thirteen carries for seventy two yards and four catches for nine yards at. Baltimore. So no touchdown and twelve fantasy points. Not. Bad. But not what you want from your number two running back and full Pr. Joe mixon manager would cherish. Yeah Yeah. But that's why I'm okay. Going with hunt in this case, would you trade Kareem Hunt for? Michael Gallup, would you rather have? About a million miles. How about Kareem Hunt or? Tyler Boyd. Hunt. I might say buoyed. I'm encouraged by BOYD'S TARGET ME TO HE'LL. He'll be moving up for sure. All right. Believe it or not or buy or sell what do I do I do. I do by. Follow. Up. Onto the next game, no, we gotTA. Talk. About, Antonio Gibson and what do you do with him? I was GONNA talk about. All right. Who would you rather have recipes Beckham or? Gibson. Who? I'll say Oh del. Yeah I'm encouraged that Gibson had three catches. That's that's we're starting to get a little bit closer to what we're looking for from him. Okay Cincinnati twenty-three Posters Cincinnati twenty-three Philadelphia twenty-three and heath. Europe Yeah believe it or not. You. Well, we already talked about green okay sorry. Believe it or not Carson Wentz and A. J. Green trouble. Now I believe yeah. Half believe it 'cause if I see Carson Wentz on the waiver wire I'm not GonNa you know jump at it but if I see Aj Green on the waiver wire even though he's got off to a horrible start I'm jumpin. Aj Green. Definitely has the fewest fantasy points. Any person you would say that about Not Injured Probably Well. If someone's getting Joe Mixing because they're tired of looking at his mug shot on their roster. Who has more points between the two I would assume mixing does No I would say JK Dobbins Dobbins had two touchdowns. CAM ACRES MAYBE I. Up Acres and one of my league somebody dropped them Oh swift's GonNa get dropped in some leagues this week he played five percent of the snaps. Yeah. Okay. Well, that's a separate. Tell me what you think about Greg Ward and Zach Ertz Ward had eight catches for seventy two yards and a touchdown eleven targets. Earth's had seven catches for seventy yards on ten targets raiders out for awhile to Sean. Jackson might be out for a while Dallas Qatar might be out for a while once is running out of people to throw to again ward Kinda came in the clutch last year here is again. Are White sites hurt. Philadelphia is that team. Well what do you think two percent rostered? HOW ROSTER SHOULD GREG WORD BE Somewhere. North. One, twenty percent but less. Yeah like right somewhere between twenty.

"You know the franchises have decided that at least to start the season I game for two or three games for his month of the season, which is what our decision was both football and soccer that we're not gonNA have fans and I went to our first soccer match last Saturday night with no one this afternoon. Off going to later. And was just great to see the players on the pitch on the field whatever and and and to see it be televised properly and fans could sit home and enjoy be safe and and that was fine. There's no question. The game is better when the fans in the stands, the player standpoint from the fans standpoint you know. CETERA but. They have to make sure that we do that in a safe environment and So I think. Your question specifically, I do think there'll be a complete season I. DO think we'll have a super bowl There may be some clubs already in the state of New York we have New Jersey you have the jets giants, etc. They won't be able to play all era. Samoa clubs have decided that will be able to play when a fans lawyer. Or the clubs have made the symbol decision but you know we'll We'll have to say but I think we'll have a full season. Any great season I think when you're watching the game on television, you'll you'll focus on the game, a game itself. The quality is going to be just as good. probably goes to a little bit of a tune-up in the first couple of games because we don't have the preseason games as a factor. Can't scrimmage against other teams, which is a factor I think the clubs have done as good as they can coaches I know have worked hard and coach certainly has in communications under these conditions with our players and it's taken full advantage of the extent of training camp which has been expanded as you know to allow for more time for the place to make sure they're conditioning where it needs to. Show We'll we'll have to take you know this as you know, is our listeners all know that this disease has life run through its own Salute like dancing with the gorilla you stop dancing to the grill says it's over. I've never heard that one before. But I think in this case, I mean we can't control some of that by our own behavior and I think that's the important message. The NFL think has done that that's the reason I think they have the numbers that you share with us a few minutes ago and we have to continue to do that. And the fans understand that fans do understand that and they want to be back in the stadiums and we wanna back to the stadiums but they understand our first priority is to make sure that they're safe and our organization say for players or staff. Coaches et CETERA. Finally. Do you get much of a stance? Mimi the NFL has. Put a lot of time and energy into. Social Justice initiatives and especially in the last week or so when you've seen what's happened around the sporting landscape of because of the shooting in Kenosha? Wisconsin. D get much of a sense weather players in the NFL say players on your team are going to push to Do some sort of demonstration during the season and not just in training. camp. Well I I would say you know I would say this and I I mean you and I could talk about this for a couple hours probably in not run out of thoughts on it. I think the NFL players particularly when you look at the mix of players seventy percent are are men of color So I I think it's an issue of that. Obviously, we're facing in America. It's an issue that That I think we've made changes and made improvements said it was interesting We had a town hall meeting with a John Lewis thirty days before he passed away and at a separate opportunity to have a conversation with Andy young a both disciples of Dr King in the true sense of the word and A both at the same thing to make. Things much better than they used to be. They're nowhere near this a separate conversations nowhere near where they should be We believe in protest we don't believe in any sort of violence and we have great hope for the future. And I would say the same thing I mean I. I'm not obviously young. I'm not John Lewis. Who is a? Beloved Friend But I think our players they. They should make their feelings known. Their right to protest is is certainly Certainly there's and is it is all Americans and I and I think that in a way that's that's healthy in a way that doesn't take away from the game itself they should continue to. Make. Feelings known shared. Make them public? We've had players who`ve Committed to volved in marches and walks etc, and Dutch to show their support. So I think the League is very conscious of this. I think that the the recent announcement that League has you know cobble together another two, hundred, fifty, million dollars in terms of and net that money's going to be used on a national level that does not speak to us really happening two franchises the the additional monies probably on top of that but you know that those those monies are being committed to authorizations in institutions that are making a difference there being jointly agreed to by the players by players coalition NFL PA by owners on happens to be committee as well. And then I think I don't know who doesn't have a group of players in their organization that doesn't have their own local committee and we do as well and we're focusing on the issues that they ask us to pay the most attention to whether it be police accountability, social unrest or social injustice or quality issues, etc.. So you know, I think. This is unique time.

"Wow It really is something that. And you know it's hard for. Certainly hard for me to know because obviously a white guy who grew up in white town in Connecticut went to a White College in Ohio and and so and I mean I'm sure you probably feel little bit of the same way but. It's really hard in many ways for us to understand those things unless. We sit and really try to take in what a lot of people like your teammates or dealing with. Yeah no doubt you have to be essential. I said this in front of the team. Unfortunately it's really easy as as a white person to go about your your life in in Nazi racism you know it doesn't affect you on a day-to-day basis. You're not intentional about noticing things easy to just go back your life it doesn't affect you. it's easy to just as live and I? Think it's a problem But if you're. You're able to have conversations in open your eyes and and really see things a little bit deeper level in communicate and and build relationships with people who don't look like you who are from the same place as you who in know grew up in a in a different situation with in a different location. You're able to really learn a lot and You know that's something that I've tried to do over the course of of my life of my career and and I've been enough to be in an locker rooms pretty much my whole life and there's something special about being on a team and and building those relationships and and finding a common goal commonality and you realize that you're a lot more alike than than you are different you know and when you're able to fight for something together to to sacrifice together to go through adversity together, it really bonds you in brings a closest to it is tough to simulate you know on the outside world Like I said, I'm thankful that I've gotten to to be a part of these locker rooms in building relationships and have my eyes opened situations because you know living in my hometown back in Texas and never really left I i. probably wouldn't. Have my eyes open to the same way that I am. Now you know I'm thankful for those that growth that I've been able to have over the years through building relationships with good friends. Gut Feeling. Do you think that this carries into the season? Is there any chance that like in the NBA and some of these other sports that? Maybe, you guys take a week off to protest this or what his have have. You had any discussions like that. I have no idea. We haven't got that for you. Know we really. At. The end of the day or football players we want to play Footba. But we also want to see change happen. We WanNA see America get better America do better and and people be treated equally in and justice those who are so I don't know what it's GonNa look like you know heading into the season but I know that we're gonNA continue to prepare to play and at the same time we're GonNa try to effect positive change. Ryan tannehill thanks so much for joining me on the podcast and continued great success down in Nashville. Thanks Peter thanks me. Back the Peter King podcast. Happy to be joined by Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur blank. Veteran of of quite a few wars in the national football league, and there's a couple of really interesting things in his book, which we're going to talk about today here in this podcast Arthur blank has a book out called Good Company. and you know for those who don't know the back story of Arthur blank basically. He's the CO founder of Home Depot. And you know later in life he said Hey let's have some fun. I'm going to buy a football team and oh by the way will also build one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world In Atlanta and so Arthur welcome to the podcast. Thanks for joining me. You're welcome Peter it's always good to talk with him. So give me I I'm really curious when you started to think about writing this book good company. He eat I'm going to ask you to specific questions about it but what was your goal when you went about writing this book? Well. I, think that you know what was the amazing to me is that you know the great success we had at the Home Depot when I was there for twenty three years. Left is a as CO chairman and CEO et Cetera. That we establish set of six or eight in that case, because a public company, a core values that really drove all of our success on continues to drive the success. The company has under the Currency Oh, Craig when air is not a wonderful job. But then we went ahead and we bought the Atlanta Falcons which alluded to then we we obviously built the stadium several years ago we we started up A. New, franchise Atlanta the United Soccer Franchise we We bought quired in opened up expanded PJ toe superstores number one golf retail, America, and operated and operate a couple ranches in. Montana. That are open to the public and as well as out foundation. So the point is that all of those same values though six values. That we used in building and running and continue to Ron. Hd Aren't place today in all of these very diverse sets of businesses in all had great financial success and beyond that, which is probably the message of the book is that the excess you can measure it. Financially, which you need to do in terms of having a sustainable organization long-term. But beyond that an organization as connected with your family serving fans, you guessed your customers making sure that you connect it to your all..

"And kind of fun chess piece for you and for your offensive coordinator. It otherwise your team you know other than obviously you lose your right tackle in free agency Jack Conklin, but your team is pretty much comes back as you know as normal right. So I mean, do you sort of you this as a way to try to hopefully in your mind take that next step? Their whole goal is to. You know. We're not satisfied with with reaching the championship game. We did last year. You know obviously you're darkhorse in no one really bought into us but we believed in each other and you know had a lot of belief that we could accomplish everything wanted to and were able to fight our way back from you know two and four to. Making the playoff run. So we got a little taste of it. We've got a little taste success and You know we know what it looks like to to to string wins together. We know what it looks like to play good football and our dis- you know. Chasing that trying to do that each and every day pushed the envelope on on what we can accomplish Shen and not being satisfied really with anything. You know there's no there's no limits of what we can do. You can only. People may try to put limits on us. You know we're we're not going to put limits on ourselves and what we can accomplish. WE'RE GONNA go out and try to push the envelope each and every day push each other to get our best football. So we'll land with this you had a rather emotional Speech and appeal along with your teammates. You know in the wake of. Sort of another national awakening. about racist politics and and. Perhaps racist actions by police officers in Kenosha Wisconsin. And you know of of the people on your team. You know you were chosen I. Guess you're GonNa. Have to explain this to me to speak out to talk about the injustices that you still see in the United States. Tell me how that came about and why in that sort of two minute address that you got so emotional about it. Yell. Something that. I didn't really know we're walking into to have that kind of day. You know he's had conversations about the the answer says that have been taking place but they came in and and had a leadership meeting, and then a team meeting in rose really able to have an open dialogue with a bunch of the guys get on the mic and being able to speak on their feelings on on situations on experiences really just a multilayered. You know thoughts on actions moving forward. Just, had had great dialogue for for several hours on On a multitude of issues didn't crack. You didn't practice that day right? Not not practice. You know we. Came in with the thought of practicing and then just the heaviness of the topic the emotions that were brought out on throughout the that discussion we really felt the best interest of of our football team to to continue to deepen those discussions and try to create action moving forward with with things that we're going to be doing here here in Tennessee on then putting out that that statement as a team together. Why. Were you the person who spoke for the team? Kevin. Kevin. Buyer, you know initially. You know we they're together We felt it'd be impactful to do not only have a a black man speaking but also white man you know a guy who doesn't deal with the same. Racial. Justice our biases on a daily basis. But I've been able to to to understand a little bit more. Obviously I'll never fully understand I can't feel those feelings in But I'm able to understand a little bit more. My relationships and conversations that had had over the years and I feel strongly that that America's not where we needed to be. You know I I being American I, love them in this country. I think it's a great country that offers a lot of opportunity but We're not. We're not where we need to be. We still have have worked to do I think we've come a long way. Since this country was first founded. It was slavery being a big part of that. But we're not there yet Agassi. There's a lot of undertones that still persist even to this day. So We just WANNA continue to fight for positive change to to affect our country and make the world a safer and more equal place for for all those Americans who live here and You know that's something that that I feel strongly about in I was emotional about it just thinking about my kids hearing. Instances of of teammates who I've been in situations where they didn't know if they going to in walk away from this incident just being profiled in in situations like that where You know if I picture my kids being in the same situation it up his there's so much love you have for your kids and Just the fact of someone's call of their skin completely changes interactions or. Day to day life it breaks my heart. It was amazing to listen to Troy Vincent. I think he was on I forget maybe Mike Greenberg, show this week. And Troy Vincent talked about having kids twenty, two boys, twenty, two, twenty in fifteen and. Thinking that man I just can't bear the thought of them being out there possibly being hunted and when you use a word like that..

"Back in the Peter King podcast. So happy to be joined by Ryan Tannehill the Tennessee Titans quarterback, and you know Ryan I tell people this. And when I have written this or talked about this everybody says really. There's a couple of to me. Amazing things about the story of Ryan Tannehill in two thousand nineteen one. Yet, a quarterback rating of over one hundred seventeen. That's the highest quarterback rating in the NFL. In six years since Nick, foles in two, thousand, thirteen and. You also had the highest yards for attempt at nine point, six yards per attempt. of any QUARTERBACK IN FOOTBALL And both of those things, obviously, you would never done before in your in your NFL. But what I think is most interesting about you. Is is you look at what is the compensation that that Tennessee Titans paid to get number one? A fourth round draft pick, which was the hundred and thirty fifth pick in the draft this year, and they also got Miami to pay seventy five percent of your salary last year. So they got you for one percent of the salary cap and. The salary cap last year and the hundred and thirty fifth pick in the draft, and you were the most efficient quarterback in the NFL. With the best. Kind of deep armed percentage I guess I would call it when I think of yards for attempt I. Always think of you know how well you're throwing the ball deep but anyway so that's my very long winded way of saying man heck of a job last year. They, use a lot of fun. You know I think Like you said, different circumstances coming into Tennessee last year coming in last spring. But had a lot of fun last year in excited to see what can do this year. Arthur, Brown your offensive coordinator told me that. When you came in and he met you and talk to you about things obviously, you came to Tennessee a year and whatever three months ago. Clearly as a backup to Marcus Mariota. And you told him if not mistaken at one point. A you know I'm going to be the best backup I can be, and I'm going to try to help Marcus the best I can which had to be kind of a difficult thing for you to be able to say knowing that you felt that you're starting quarterback. Yeah no doubt. It was a big adjustment for me. You know going back. Coming here and just. Getting a new role. Stepping into a backup role when I had been a Maho career. Simply the myself in and knew that, I could play but was stepping into a new role. So had to adjust to that and can figure a long fly. I'd had great backups down among Matt Moore was with me for a long time down in Miami and Saw Him do a great job for me as far as helping me throughout the whole process and. You know once I kinda. Settled into the role little bit than in competed in training camp. Do the Best I could. All right now that. Now that the season I'm going to do the best job I can about preparing the defense on a daily basis getting myself ready to play in supporting Marcus along the way. So that was kind of my thought processes know you can't control the circumstances you're all the time you can control how you handle it in your approach and and. What you get out of each and every day, and it's kind of my thought process going into each and every day is be the best I could and and go from there you ended up really liking Mario didn't you? Mark is a great guy. You know I had a lot of fun with Marcus really enjoyed being in the room with him obviously Could. Have Been. It was a really tough situation, but it could have been a very awkward situation within the room you know with the change going going down midseason. So really thankful for the way the markets handle that he's just a class act through through a competitor integrate football player will be rooting them along with the rest of his career. So. If I if I can ask you an overarching question that you probably answered sixty four times but. I'm just really curious you basically. You were sixty three percent passer in your career. At Miami, your first year at Tennessee, you're seventy percent passer, your career rating in Miami was eighty seven. And in two thousand, nineteen was one, seventeen, point five. So. Just give me an idea when you look at it when you look at your career and what was so good for you. Last year that allowed you to play at that level. Me Two or three thoughts of why that happened. Really. Came to go as a team I. Think Arthur, did a great job of of putting our team in a position succeed. And the guys bought in we believed in believed in each other and I think at the end of the day that played a big part in it is when you go out with the trust, the guys around you the belief it that someone's GonNa, make a play we may not have the perfect play called May Have a really tough look on her hands, but we believe in each other and believe that someone's going to make a place almost going to step up in and find a way to get open on. If you are covering, put the ball in a good spot that belief that they're going to make a play on it, which guys did for me, you know multiple times throughout the year obviously was it was a huge part of our success. You had you had a bunch of. Rain Are Arthur Smith is interesting guy himself obviously. But you had a lot of guys who had been cut elsewhere or who had been undrafted free agents or whatever and or lower picks or whatever, and I'm thinking about guys like Khalif Raymond. Mid Round pick like Johnny Smith and I mean he had a bunch of those guys but. What do you think it is about the way Arthur Smith..
"ryan tannehill" Discussed on The MMQB Podcast with Peter King
"Welcome to the Peter King podcast. So happy to be joining one week before the start of the NFL season. There's an awful lot to talk about this week on the podcast I've got Ryan Tannehill the rejuvenated quarterback of the upstart Tennessee Titans of spoke to him late last week. he's very much in we gotta go prove it again mode after the titans great end to the two thousand nineteen season, and we'll also talk to arthur blank the owner of the Atlanta Falcons. He's got a new book out good company. A business tip book. And we'll also ask them just a little bit about what he thinks about what's going on in the NFL and whether the season will be played to fruition. Now. You know what I am thinking about these days. We sit here a little more than a week before the start of the regular season. I've gotTa Make My. In my column in football morning in America next Monday. and. Every morning I wake up because I surly I I'm thoroughly confused about who to pick to win the super bowl years. I have a great idea and the team I really want to pick to win. The Super Bowl is the Kansas City chiefs because even though they were down ten points with eight minutes to go against San Francisco. Just six or seven months ago I. Think we're looking at it now and suddenly the Andy Reid told me in training camp really struck me. He said, you know remember we're behind in every game in the playoffs and not just behind but significantly behind. You know the Texans were up twenty four in the second quarter the Tennessee titans were up by touchdown. Also in the second quarter. With eight minutes to go against the forty niners in the super bowl of the chiefs were down ten before Patrick mahomes polled. Few bits of magic. Out of. Out of out of some more who knows where but you know the the the point I wanted to make is that you take that you know that they had to battle to win every one of those playoff games now obviously they they blew Houston out because Houston's defense just wasn't up to it but Tennessee game was tough from the San Francisco game was very tough and so I just sort of look at this. And I add to the fact. That when you think about it and this is something that I think we probably don't think about enough. You go to in the last fourteen NFL seasons. There is not been a repeat winner. In fact, it's been since the two thousand, four and two, thousand, five, New England patriots that any team has repeated. And I oftentimes will think of that. It's one of the reasons why very rarely do I pick a team to repeat. And you know I hate to be subject to the win of the fact that the last team I saw in training camp. this year was the Kansas City chiefs and there wasn't a lot not to like. They've got twenty of twenty one coaches back. They've got twenty of twenty two starters back. They've got a great fun effervescent explosive new running back in Clyde Edwards Hilar- I. Don't know how many people in the last two or three weeks I've said. Don't let Clyde Edwards Hilar-, get past the first half of the first round of your fantasy draft. And so. I just think that they're a really good team obviously. And they have enough answers on defense but again. Honestly what I'm trying to do is talk myself out of picking them and we'll see what happens. We'll see in the next five days of what thoughts go through my mind as I stare up at the ceiling at six o five am eastern time as I. Look up and say, okay, what about the saints or what about the niners? What about an upstart team? What about the bucks? By the way? I really like Tampa Bay. buccaneers. So, let's get to our guest now enough of me. Here for me a lot. Don't you? But me, let's get to Ryan Tannehill a talk to him at the end of a practice session in meeting late last week over videoconference from Nashville Halo I think Ryan Tannehill is an incredible incredible story I mean think of this I just want you to think of this. Ryan Tannehill. In Trade, from Miami to Tennessee cost the Tennessee titans one percent of their salary cap last year. And the one hundred and thirty fifth pick in the two thousand, twenty draft. An all the titans got for that. Was the top rated quarterback in football. And the quarterback who had highest yards per attempt in the NFL last year both. Very much different from the career marks of Ryan Tannehill but I ask Tannahill about that several other things. Here we go with Ryan Tannehill.
Tennessee Titans' Tannehill speaks about need for social change alongside Titans teammates
"Team's canceled practice is Thursday in support of protests against racial injustice, including the Tennessee Titans, whose quarterback Ryan Tannehill was passionate in his defense of those so adversely impacted, tired of dealing with the systematic oppression were tired of dealing with excessive force were tired of seeing. Black men and women die. It's sickening and is really It's sickening, just know that they have to worry about their kids coming home at night. I have two young kids that because the color of their skin I never have to worry about if they get pulled over by police officer if they're going to make it out that interaction alive, and that's a sick facts of the world that we're living in from
Patriots sign QB Cam Newton to replace Tom Brady
"Tonight I think it's exciting to see what Newton can do a healthy Newton with Josh McDaniels and bill ballot check in this offense sieve juggernauts if you well and remember McDaniels they run a very innovative offense that Matt Werner ram mentioned it last hour in twenty ten they draft Gronk Aaron Hernandez they go to that too tight and sat before everybody else they have in the NFL did then it's copy cats city they hurried up shortly thereafter before chip Kelly was even hired by the eagles and now that's commonplace and this new read option type offense the Newton is a master of the patriots haven't done it given Tom Brady's obvious limitations in that category so this picture offense last year was a boring offense to watch it was a slog it was a struggle it wasn't exciting it was the first time where if you're a patriots fan you looked wistfully at the other teams and said why why can't we have Josh Allen yeah there is a ton of pics but always teases interesting to watch why why can't we have Lamar Jackson Pat Mahomes Ryan Tannehill why why can't we have to Shawn Watson why can't we have a quarterback who can move a little bit who can do more than the ball on the territory a five yard screen pass to a double covered Julian Edelman why well healthy cam Newton gives the patriots a more dynamic offensive attack I mean let's face it this was not a very good offense with Tom Brady especially in the second half of last season I think that there is that thirsty to try something new in belt check the is a really smart guy and smart people want new challenges and I think him new night I think introducing that element of offense which is going to come anyway because Jarrett Stidham is more mobile too so either way the patriots were gonna introduce more of that read option modern type NFL offense but and I think that excite spell check and probably excites McDaniels and in terms of where they're going as a running a running based offense Newton obviously is far more dynamic in that category the Brady too and if Sony Michelle returns to form a franchise and left guard this offseason me not to the patriots about their starting center David Andrews back healthy and they have three guys who can now play full back including two players who they drafted this year that's clearly the direction the patriots are moving find a really good and versatile defense and I Bella check as one league does this as the week goes this way Belichick is going that way and that you see that the roster construction of this team and I can even help
The Running Back's Struggle
"Josh last time we had ESPN. It was to talk about fullbacks today. We're talking about running backs in our way through the backfield man just like Aaron Donald Josh firms. Meyer writes about football for five thirty eight Josh late last week. The Rams announced in a shocking move that they were releasing running back. Todd Gurley. This was a remarkable turn of events Given that girlie one offensive player of the year in twenty seven teen thoroughly. He was discussed by some people as an MVP candidate in two thousand eighteen on route to the Super Bowl led the league in rushing touchdowns that year. The ten the five untouched. To the end zone touchdown todd Gurley and on top of that. He's only twenty five years old. What happened my goodness twenty five year? Old running backs are already aging out. The first thing that happened to him was he has arthritic me. So at the end of the two thousand eighteen season he had to be replaced and spelled by Anderson Mentally played a little bit in the Super Bowl but he was just entirely ineffective. Fortunately that ineffectiveness carried over into the twenty nine thousand nine season and inbetween. He was given an extension that made him one of the highest. Pay running backs in the league. So this season couple that knee with his expense the caps situation in a loss Angeles and he just became a casualty and I think he is kind of an exemplar for everything. That's going on with running backs in the NFL. It's this idea of short and careers injury proneness and loss of effectiveness and therefore being cut or getting lower pay on the day that he was released. Espn stats and Info. Put out an number that I found fascinating in two thousand fifteen year. That Gurley was drafted. Twenty two backs were drafted. Not a single one of them. Josh is still on the team that selected them. What do you make of that goes to this idea of running backs? Having really short shelf life season for running back usually occur in one of their first two seasons at least in terms of productivity in terms of touches. You wear them down so quickly in this league. Though it's one of the toughest position on on the body and so I think the League as we've seen so far this year they still are kind of have a predilection overpay for the very good running backs are the ones that just had a good season but on by and large I think across the league. You're seeing people being really risk averse and moving on from running backs after a couple of seasons. When did you notice that that some teams not all and we'll get to some teams that have continued to pay running backs winded some teams for start to realize that they had been overvaluing the position and wanted to invest elsewhere. It's hard to trace it back specifically to a particular team but I know that People in twitter sphere and analytics the NFL analytics of talked about the replace ability of the running back position for quite a few years. The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the first on board to kind of spend money at the position but spread that money out over multiple players to kind of make the injury risks inherent in the position kind of spread across multiple sets of legs. The Baltimore Ravens are also one of the ones that the forefront of really just paying the absolute minimum that they have to at that position and actually getting pretty good production out of you mentioned that the analytics community was sort of early on this trend. What did they find? What did the data tell us about running backs really two things? Were most important about running the football. The results of run plays are primarily determined by run walking and defenders in the box. The defense and not who's carrying the ball because of that the finding is the inferences. They're running backs are interchangeable and investing a lot of resources whether it's the draft or whether it's free agency just doesn't make a lot of sense is also can be pinned on the changing nature of football itself. By and large. The data tells us that passing more passing. Early is more efficient right absolutely absolutely. I mean it's not even close in terms of the average value of a planet passing versus running on early downs. Then you still have to get into this idea. Of How much does it matter to the mentality of the team? How much does it matter to keep the defense on their toes? How much do you have to do to keep them honest? And so there's no question about how much teams should passing as a percentage of plays but is probably a case. They should be passing more than now. So are there any situations in which running the football is more advantageous absolutely? I absolutely you need to be able to run well at the goal line on Short yardage. If you have a running quarterback like Baltimore had last season definitely scrambling in design runs for quarterback are extremely efficient. Jackson will keep it on the read option expense at the thirty Lamar Jackson. Ted Pa Touch Lavar captain with the spin. This print Emma score. We saw what happened with Baltimore last year. They say hadn't run into that. Tennessee buds buzzsaw in the playoffs. They probably would have made it to the superbowl in my opinion. So there's definitely something to be said for the analytics and say stop running entirely and if you are going to do it do it with deception. Right off of play action. Get the other team guessing. About what your actual formation means and so they lose half a step in responding to what you're doing those are the kind of the things analytics pushes for not not whether or not you should be one hundred percent run or a hundred percent. You mentioned that Tennessee buzzsaw that beat the Baltimore. Ravens upset them. I think a lot of people point to that team to Derrick Henry and say see having a unique generational running back does matter. Look they upset. You Know New England in Baltimore. What would you say to that? I mean he got a twelve point. Five million franchise tag out of that performance. The back end of that year so I understand their point. They're looking at what just happened. They're looking at how he's being rewarded. No saying obviously matters but they beat another rushing team it the problem that I think the face the Ravens and we saw it with Kansas City. And how they didn't share. This same problem was that if you're built around the run whether it's by the quarterback or running it up the middle an wide zone like ravens did last season if you fall behind against a team that is also a ground and pound team in trying to control the clock and control the pace and you put yourself in a position where you have to come back. And you're not used to doing it or you don't have a quarterback quarterback that perhaps his is known for that type of play. You get what happened in in in Baltimore that night Jackson under pressure always lose ball stemming interception Jedi for the titans come up with another turnover hennessy. Titans are shocking the ravens whereas with the city chiefs they fell behind early three straight times but ended up winning the Super Bowl because they have a pass attack higher variants. You could make up ground easier with the passing game that you can with the run. When everything's working great rushing is the first thing you should try. And if you're good at it you should do it as long as you can but when it fails it fails pretty spectacularly and you need to be able to pass and in fact at the NFL level we ever parody is so prevalent that you really should just start out passing at that point because everyone's trying to run and everyone's trying to stop the run so the chiefs are sort of the analytics darling in this scenario because you know they passed their way to the Super Bowl. Josh they also have Patrick Mahomes right. So if you're a team with an average quarterback do you still think it's better to take a pass first approach in every NFL GAME? Even with a mediocre quarterback we find that they are better and teams are better and more efficient passing the ball and in sometimes. It's even more apparent when you have kind of an average or slightly above average quarterback because the defense and the defensive coordinator is almost sure you're going to not rely on them right. They're gonNA say well he's kind of crap you know. They're probably going to run out us all day long. And try and be safe with the ball so to the extent that you can put a mediocre quarterback in good positions like. Perhaps Tennessee did last year. Then you can take quarterback that had been floundering for years like Ryan Tannehill in. Turn him in to one of the best quarterbacks in the league the number one running back by the end of the season a guy that some people thought could have been the super bowl. Mvp was undrafted Damian Williams who is set to make just over a couple million dollars next year. How much does finance or the market factor in to know what we think about running backs today? I think you know if you're a casual fan. And you see everyone else. Basically on the team. Except for the punter and kicker getting more than on average than these running backs. I think it's beginning to percolate that. They're probably not the most important piece on the offense anymore. Things about analytics. Is that unlike baseball? Where like things got more boring? When analytics became involved when analytics can evolved in Football. Become more exciting. We want more passing. We want to go for it on fourth down. We want to know more so I one of the good things about all of this is that you see more aggressive more exciting football when it's played in the way that evidence seems to suggest it should

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow
"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.
NFL 2020 Free Agency Predictions
"This is my favorite time of year I like to refer to it as camper time in the NFL as free agencies get ready to start here in a little less than a month and that this kind of stuff happens at the combine doesn't it a little bit yeah and and first of all one nice thing about the profession that I have is you know I can't say Hey I'm busy and then like you can turn on the TV and I got a phone line or not this is nice you got to tune in to get out he actually it's but anyway you know this year just because of the way the schedule is two weeks between when free agency begins in and won the combine is you may actually see less tampering than than ever before just because there's there's a camper window and there's a lot of time to to get things done I mean there's there's definitely a possibility that teams leave here without really having a great sense with the free agent market is and without really having a great sense of where guys are going and then it should be two weeks of scrounging around and ensure trying to get the info and you know some of the other stuff that we live in our jobs in I've been intrigued by this NFL collective bargaining agreement that's been going on between the players and the owners one of the things that I'm really intrigued in is the movement from Tuesday to Thursday for a franchise in transitional tags yeah I did that happen mainly they're just not gonna be enough time I mean there is a possibility tomorrow that there's a new CBA there's also a possibility that there's no new CBA and teams are going to have the ability to franchise and transition players and that landscape changes dramatically I mean you have teams like you know the Tennessee Titans which could lose one of their top players in you know either Ryan Tannehill R. Derrick Henry you have the cowboys who could franchise or transition you know teams can use both if there's no new CDA if there is an issue BA they can only use one that's dramatic so I think they they just wanted to give teams time to really find out their options figure out what they're going to do if we get any CPA which is no guarantee we get sold sold your timing on this is within the next twenty four hours or so because it's possible yeah so so that's it that's it that's interesting because when you look at all the deals that are out there you would think that the owners will go ahead and secure the gods they want right now rather than wait to find out what's going to happen the collective bargaining agreement yeah but the problem is you have agents who know that the salary cap might go up I mean it's not going to be a lot but it also goes up five million dollars if you're dak Prescott don't you go or you know whoever Amari Cooper whoever that is a little more that like if you're planning on making a guy salary act and the salary cap goes up to five and five you know five million dollars a year then the player should be given more right so I think what you're seeing now is everyone's in a little bit of a standstill because no one knows what the actual landscape it is and it's not a place where in a lot because in the NFL everyone planned so meticulously but because of the CBA landscape that's exactly what's happening right now I even if you were a fly on the wall during our show on Friday we had a ton of discussions about this this new collective bargaining agreement that is going to be voted on by the the full arsenal of players and and big al was the the team representative for the NFL PA for eight of his nine years in the league it is very much bothered by the fact that the the team representatives were nods able to vote first before they went to the full legal why did they skip that part of the process we which part of the process because well what what we put out their own nothing Friday is that they're going to the plaza sociais Asian is going to bypass the the player reps and go right to the players and now we found out that it's going to be a simple majority from the player's association player reps and then they'll decide whether or not they take it over to the players it's just it feels like that it's been shut down to players the approach right now yeah I need it don't delay it's going to be now is there's so we we've seen the executive committee which actually negotiated the deal that both against it right and I'm kind of way in which crazy balancing them kind of way and and then the only change now is they're going to do a vote of the NFL P. A. player wraps but they don't need a two thirds vote now they only need a simple majority to pass it on to the entire group of players that's been a small ship but it might actually you know actually get a deal done yeah the two thirds of the player reps no recommended then they make their official recommendation to the players to ratify it that's really the only difference so it is actually going to the rap's first before the entire body of players take in do you think that there was a chance that what the executive committee voted on and discussed during their meeting with the NFL owners and that's a that's a board of eleven players so there's no ties is always a tie breaker okay voted against it do you think that that seventeen game was added at the last moment in the twelfth hour all now that's what's interesting in every single negotiation not the executive committee has had with the NFL owners has included a seventeen game every single one every single every single offer back and forth has been based around the seventeenth game that's what's that's what's just crazy about the executive committee coming out against it is they've known that every day getting a C. B. A. don was predicated under adding a game and of course getting a lot more money for the players what they want there was some information out there that was released I think over the weekend that the seventeenth game is gonna be played for two hundred fifty thousand dollars cap yeah is there any truth to that it's kind of true so it you know I. as in everything else trying it really depends on how you look at so you know for most of the players you know eighty percent of the players they're gonna get properly compensated for adding a seventeen they'll get a a raise in their game check basically the get an additional game check for the players who make now for the players who make a significant amount more you know J. J. watt of the world for instance they will not get any more than twenty fifty thousand dollars for that seventeen game alone but obviously there's signing bonuses roster bonuses and all sorts of different ways to change salaries so it only applies to the game check so yes it's true but it affects an unbelievably few amount of players yeah it where there's a will there's a way to get these guys paid but you know we talked about it would you just kind of popped over that kind of speed bump over that because if you take away twenty percent of the top twenty percent of the NFL are we talking about the XFL now we're talking about the base of Reuters minimum guys rookies except you know kind of players
Brady: Spinning the QB Carousel
"Brady. And I'll start with this one I just. I would be stunned if he ends up anywhere else. So I'm going to say the CAROUSEL stops and he sticks rate where he is even if he also moved his house and headed out of state. He's not long for New England either way but for another year especially if they end up ponying up phoning up to thirty million or whatever and again the Patriots end it also gives them the opportunity like the colts to draft a quarterback and start developing someone this time though for real. It didn't work out Jimmy G. Because Brady just kept playing but this time they actually would be grooming a young kid for the future Brady stays annoying on who disagrees as who agrees Wi with you hundred percent. Think He. I think he wants to be wanted in. This process might address some of that and then have New England come out in a total pantomine show and say yes. We're going to pay you a a lot. Yes you know. The quote was weapons ad he wants stuff added around him. He doesn't want to be in last year's offense. I think all that New England is the best situation for him for him to seamlessly. Leslie not start over with a new playbook work with Josh mcdaniels and hope that you get it right. Probably the best for the Patriots. Are they really going to do better than him. I think it'd be difficult. I don't buy the talk that he's GonNa the idea that he could make a free agency and this has been on our network to and see what he's worth and then come back. I mean if you're talking about I want more weapons. And he wants the team around him to be good if he gets the the free agency and comes back they have to pay. Whatever Tom Brady is gonNA cost plus thirteen and a half million in dead cap money it makes no sense? I just can't see bill belichick operating like that. I I think the Patriots at some point. We'll have to be. We'll have to say if you reach free agency like we're moving on. They either get the deal done before free agency Z.. Starts or not because otherwise it makes no sense to bring him back plus thirteen million dollars of fake money He Lord knows knows he's earned the benefit of the doubt but I'm still floored by how much benefit the Dow. He's getting compared to other quarters. I agree and people keep mentioning the titans and if here the titans why in the world you've got Ryan Tannehill who you're probably going to keep. Who can escape pressure? Athletic and can hit passes down the field. And you're going to move on from him for the Tom Brady. Who played in two thousand nineteen? I don't see that only the only issue there is that any of the thirty one other owners would would sign up for scenarios like that many cases where Tom Brady changes everything. People think about your team for the next year from a coach angle. I do under like if the this is one where the insiders don't have a good read on it kind of like Peyton manning back in the day because it's such a big deal but if you believe that the insiders had a read on it really feels it's just chargers or patriots that there that there's not gonna be the level of interest by any other team and even that the chargers feel like it pretty big underdog in that scenario
"ryan tannehill" Discussed on Xtra Sports Radio 1300 AM
"Sides of that agreement but let me ask you let me ask you because your for your fan your big fan do you trust Ryan Tannehill enough where he is going to turn into a pumpkin next year I still don't I thought he had a very effective season very nice but things can change very quickly I don't I don't wanna commit that type of money long term to Ryan Tannehill right because a one season I'll tag them and then we can talk about it after this next season that's two years in a row and maybe you figured it out go ahead that's also the same way because the media he is the reason that we made it to the playoffs are made you know I'm not the non that but at the same time and he way they do say gonna play also that that granted there came or you bring a mock up my man and you if you come on up and run the ball you line up and run the ball and I understand that you know and I guess whatever we had to have a throw he made it more often than not but now I I don't I have this thing about that is that that makes me back okay yeah go ahead by the job because you know we're not going to get anybody else but that's the thing and that's what I thought I told is I don't know you know if we do let him Walker if we don't bring jogging who do we get what we get because they're not going to resolve Marcus Mariota you know and I don't want to but I just don't know what we go in stock thank that bring tries in franchise and it is the best option because what I said are our number one priority has to be paid and Ron canning army pay and they're kindred yeah I I agree with you and Cody thank you very much for the call hello and into his prediction but what the hell if I'm Tennessee right now you're you're trapped in twenty ninth if you want to trade up for one of the quarterbacks I guess you possibly can in maybe you have it set but I still wouldn't want to do that it wasn't like you were twelve and four football team or nine and seven right to know that some good stuff I think Mike Rabal that a hell of a job I brought him up at the very beginning of the show if you have fifty million dollars in caps and I'm just looking out over the cap you got fifty million dollars in cap space it's one year if you go out there you pay him the going rate for a franchise QB for up for the franchise tag it's a hell of a lot of money but it's just one sees he's happy he gets a ton of money you can't be upset with I know you want long term investment if you're any any player we still get a ton of money you get the top five average I pay in the top five average go ahead and do it for one more year plus there's always going to be and I hate to give away what I can sell because I'm gonna get and bring it up next you have a possible work stoppage coming up in twenty twenty one I know the both sides seem to be encouraged right now yeah possible work stoppage coming out we get the Marie Smith on the players Hey might wanna get said there could be a possible to your work stoppage I believe any that's gonna happen but if I go in the next year and I don't I'm not committed to Ryan Tannehill then it frees me up to do some other things and then I could got to get all my ducks in a row because we're about to have a work stoppage of that's a possibility so for Ryan Tannehill yes it would behoove them to try to get a longer term contract take advantage of that be paid it's been a good story yet for Tennessee nine seven doesn't give you everything he's been in the fishing quarterback I'd pay him as the fission quarterback I'd franchise take you for one year I'm drafted twenty ninth overall in money to position a debt to do a trade up and maybe go after one of those quarterbacks I don't know if any one of those guys really give me the gusto on that you could I prefer to maybe help the football team in in make another deep run in the post season and a nice here eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven don Washington your next up on CBS sports radio go ahead the Niners lose will be led through before forty seven high school in but I feel they're gonna win just because they didn't comparable mine you will they be there were we little ball control was quickly he said on the branch first those who moved to a local long drugs for the red zone when they score you can then when the kids in close but the Texans to open twenty four no for you on the portable for for download for their own and use all without them fifty worn through several room ago blown out by one we after we reported quarterly for who the mariners team store plug that they're going to lose but they could either keep the guys on the bench and speaking of the hall of fame is the one where we will all of whom were we when we talk to you about it if you didn't have that last name okay gosh dot yeah I think we what why when where he won two super bowls over the best you will succeed in your you know he was only all parole three times the only key thing where is he one hundred and seventeen and we lost a hundred and seventeen years to build up a little three years earlier the morning was there in New York I just don't really have the whole thing work and if we didn't have that lives in a room we would really be talks you know but it is March the fifth my all done well done and done thank you very much for the call everything else is right is right in that and even on that I'll meet you halfway being a man and certainly doesn't hurt him I think it's a we beat if he were to just beat the if you were to just beat the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger will bend office workers all a favor in his own right but we're talking about the best ever so if he beats Tom Brady twice the hall of fame isn't just about stats hall of fame is a museum and in awe and museums are about moments in historical moments and those are two very big moments in the NFL you look at the stats top five you can say whatever you want to buy passing yards anymore I think there's gonna be a logjam but he's also got the hardware I think is a hall of fame eight five five two one two four CBS coming up next the groundhog day again scan prominent CBSSports Super Bowl Bound: 49ers and Chiefs
"Did bill. We made it to the Super Bowl. You me and Jimmy Garoppolo. I feel I I may have sweat more watching the NFC championship game. That Jimmy Garoppolo actually swept playing being in the NFC championship game. Bill Barnwell is a senior football writer at ESPN and the host of the bill. Barnwell show so after two weeks Of Extremely Exciting Football Championship weekend did not disappoint niners and chiefs fans disappointed pretty much everyone else or at least anyone who wanted close close games both favorites dominated so let's start with the most dominant team the San Francisco Forty niners bill win the niners packers met earlier earlier. This season. Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst games of his career threw for one hundred and four yards. Tonight he threw for three hundred twenty six yards But the result wasn't much better. Why is that okay? So the first time these two teams played the niners won with an absolutely dominant. Pash Josh Rush Nick. Bosa and his teammates knocked down Aaron Rodgers ten times on Sunday. The only knockdown Aaron Rogers twice and while they did hold them without a first down conversion in the first half both of those games the packers movable pretty consistently I should say after after halftime instead the forty niners otherworldly in a different way on Sunday they ran the ball forty two times for two hundred eighty five yards and four. We're touchdowns averaging nearly seven yards per carry to put that in context. ESPN has a stat called expected. Points with measures how each play impacts team's James Chances of scoring on a given the forty niners racked up the second most rushing. EPA for any team in a game this season and and the most for any single team in a playoff game over the last decade just narrowly beating out the prior record holder. which just happened to be the forty niners? Twenty wanting twelve playoff win over. The Green Bay Packers would Colin Kaepernick. Ran For one hundred. Eighty one rushing yards. So they're leading rusher tonight. I was not Colin Kaepernick. It was re Moster who ran for two hundred and twenty yards by himself. were good has hat trick the first half of the NFC championship game deserves a hat trick of field grade baby bill. Will I am guessing. A decent amount of football fans hadn't heard Ramos before tonight. Okay so you mustard is basically it accident accident in football terms but it's such a cool story so the Shanahan offense has a history of unearthing obscure running back and turning them into stars going back to Mike Shanahan stays in Denver but even among those backs most particularly remarkable case. Liners did everything they could to find a different running back over the past a couple of years. They hand picked a runner who they traded up to nab in the two thousand seventeen draft never played a game for the team. They signed Jerick McKinnon Torres. ACL He's collected more than and twenty one million dollars for the niners without ever playing a single game for the team. This offseason they added. Kevin Coleman from the Falcons who suffered an injury in the first half and that opened up the door from western and most of its story is easy to root for. You heard him talk about it. After the biggest game of his life on Sunday crazy that I've been on seven. Different teams actually still have cut dates every before every game a look at the dates when I got cut not everybody can can deal. Would that type of stressing the pain and agony I went through. I kept the faith to not only myself but whoever gave me the opportunity is organization has done a great job most are made the niners roster as a special teamer at first but after he looked good in limited time last season they gave him a three year extension after playing. Well this season most are just became the first running back. NFL history to top two hundred rushing yards and scored four rushing touchdowns in a single game. That's never happened in the playoffs playoffs before pretty good for a guy who was really an afterthought until the two thousand eighteen season. What's just remarkable? Bill is those two hundred twenty rushing yards. Were nearly three times as many yards as Garoppolo the night as quarterback past for which made for a remarkable stat sheet. There was a point in this football game where according to ESPN stats and Info. Jimmy went ninety four minutes in real time without attempting a pass so I have to ask going into the Super Bowl. Is that a sustainable offensive approach. I mean we all had that friend and in our twenties who got by succeeded solely because they were good looking right now that friend is Jimmy. Garoppolo I mean in the divisional round. He barely through through the football in the conference championship game. He barely through the football. We saw a similar situation with Ryan. Tannehill right over the first two weeks of his post. The season and when Tennessee ran into an offensive juggernaut with the chiefs their offense with Danny Hillis not able to accelerate into a higher gear. Now of course Garoppolo is the one who has to face the chiefs unless the forty niners can shut down the Kansas City. Passing game with their pass rush which isn't out of the question they're going to need to throw the football more quite a bit more. We've seen the niners succeed in games or Garoppolo and to throw the ball at ton with the Saints Win. Maybe as a notable for example but since Garoppolo through that interception against the Vikings in the divisional round cow Shanahan has called seventy one runs against just twelve passes passes even if the niners do end up throwing the ball effectively against the chiefs. It's clear that Shanahan doesn't WANNA put the game on Garoppolo shoulders unless absolutely necessary and that in itself is telling throughout the game bill packers fans were frustrated. Understand police and they seem to be taking out some of their wrath on the coaches arguing. They should have devised better game. Plans to both run the ball more and stop the run and do you think there's anything that Matt Leflore or the Packers Defensive Coordinator Mike Patton could have done differently in this game. Yeah I think so I think to be fair. Shanahan might just ask pedants number. It just felt like you is several steps ahead of the packers defensive coordinator and when pen and tried to adjust it just never seemed to catch up and work there. There was one play I think in the second quarter was a microcosm of everything that went wrong for the packers in this game. They came out in their nickle package with five defensive backs against the forty niners base. He's too back offense which created the size mismatch. The niners pitched the Baltimore and not only did he have a huge hole but he made both safeties with on their tackle attempts downfield win for about thirty yards. pedants struggled to put his players in positions where they could succeed and meanwhile leflore didn't coach like a guy who was a seven point underdog. The packers punted. I believe on their first drive on fourth and one from the fifty yard line. We know the packers are enormously more effective offense with Aaron Aaron Jones on the field but the floor still Jamal Williams their backup running back. Play over thirty percent of the offensive snaps and he didn't really take advantage of move the niners movement Richard Sherman. That was really fascinating during the regular season for the niners and during the vast majority of his time in Seattle Sherman signed up for almost every every snap asked the left cornerback. Defense playing against the right side of the offense. The niners started the game on Sunday. Which chairman on the opposite side of the field on the right side of the defense on the left side of the offense against devante items and while Sharon didn't travel to the left side very frequently? He did do it a few times during the first half. The second half Adams was able to be isolated Sherman over the top for a huge play downfield. I think that played about half of his snaps on either side of the field. I would have liked to have seen for trying to isolate him against German a little more often and take his chances with
Chiefs' Andy Reid Praises Ryan Tannehill, Titans Offense Before AFC Title Game
"A trip to the Super Bowl is on the line this afternoon eighties championship Sunday adding Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to welcome in the surging tie ins Tennessee took down the patriots and the raven so far this postseason Chiefs coach Andy Reid touched on what stands out the most about the Ryan Tannehill led Titan's offense well the top of his is the National Football League and since he's been in there so everybody talks about the running game is guy can insulate in these guys and good guys to do it on a game will get started just after three o'clock in
Titans stun Ravens, head to AFC title game with 28-12 win

Ups & Downs: Another No-Show By Patriots Offense In Wild-Card Loss To Titans
"Just an unbelievable day of football and it ended with the New England Patriots falling to the Tennessee Titans twenty thirteen in a remarkable gains and obviously is the true story lines this one being the game and now this page three team for this season started out like a house of far one of the best defenses in the league in what people thought maybe one of these one of the best defenses in recent memory sorted out undefeated in there was a lot of talk about possibly finishing the season that way now that it changed but they end the season with a playing a wild card game which is rare for them but losing a wild card game and now for the first time in god knows how long they will not be in the A. F. C. championship they will not be in the Superbowl and they got beat by Tennessee Titans team that changed when they decided to make a quarterback chase Ryan Tannehill mid season I'm gonna start there the other story line is obviously what it means for the pats moving forward to the uncertainty of Brady the idea that this could be the end of the dynasty the future of the franchise the future of the coach all the rumors of Brady wanted to go play for the win in LA possibly for the Chargers just I don't think he retired but I guess that's on the table too but the future of the franchise is one thing but let's start with this game because it was you knew this game was going to be a game at ten AM that Tennessee came to play right off the bat when New England goes down the field in their first drive comes up short is forced to kick a field goal and Tennessee comes right down the field to put the ball in the end so I knew right there that just seems not afraid of the patriots this team could be on the same field as the patriots and this team is is physically talented as the patriots and showed the entire game I'm Derrick Henry was an absolute beast all day long and I know this is kind of the sexy pic a lot of people felt Tennessee had a chance in this game a lot of people do it I was one of them I thought knowing when when when this came from the main reason of obviously how talented Bella check is in these match ups and typically when you get into these games with bell checking the patriots he eliminates your best threat he eliminates your best player I did not think Henry would be able to have the type of game he had where he absolutely dominate absolutely dominated a hundred eighty two rushing yards two hundred and two total yards just an absolute dominating performance and honestly I didn't see that coming I thought there'd be a chance the New England obviously struggled offensively down the stretch the defense had not been as good as it was in the middle of the year coming off a loss through the dolphins and rice it's Patrick I knew that there was a chance that this game could be close in the end that anything could happen I thought the patriots went would win but anything could happen I did not see Derrick Henry I miss Tennessee Titans team ram in the ball down bill Belichick's throat didn't see coming I was very impressed with the way they play Tennille didn't have to do anything he won this game and he made a couple of plays but he didn't have to do much in this game he was able to allowed to lean back and rely on his running back I me through fifteen passes use it for fifteen of seventy two yards but this game started to really make itself clear what was gonna happen at the end of the second half the sequence of the end of this the end of the first at excuse me at the end of the second quarter was very point with the patriots find themselves with first and goal and the Tennessee Titans defense makes an unbelievable stand and hold them to a field goal and you felt like right there you felt like right there that could have been a game defining moment for them to make that stop and then go down the field and score the touchdown and then they were getting the ball in the second half to pull what the patriots and Brady love to do so much sticking in the ends or the end of the first as path and get the ball right back in trying to dominate and start that second half with a with momentum and trying to take a stranglehold on the game and today was Tennessee that was able to do it so I thought that was obviously a very important sequence right there were they able to stuff the patriots at the one yard line and then obviously he gets about five minutes left in the game now this is where I actually think Tennessee did a terrible job and I think for able did a bad job here with five minutes and fifty two seconds left up one against the New England Patriots in New England you are trying to defeat what could be the one of the great dynasties in NFL history I think that does nothing but when these big games Europe one point with just under six minutes left and it's fourth in three go for it and trying to win the game instead they play the you know you it was so awkward thing and I know the it got a lot of play from Romo finance about the chess move and how it's very Bella check like where they're taking these penalties to prolong and and kill the clock and that and that's fine great unstable to trying to do you take a delay game the clock reset the twenty five you can run off another twenty five seconds then they go all sides because you can't have to delay games in a row so then they go off sides that runs another twenty five any rebel to burn an extra in the one twenty five one thirty or so but I thought that was a terrible decision I'm surprised it didn't cost Tennessee I'm I'm I'm trying to beat the New England Patriots in New England in the post season on the Tennessee Titans with Ryan Tannehill as my quarterback I'm not giving the ball back to Tom Brady with four minutes left and then even if you move the clock there all they need is a field goal New England for minutes is an eternity to get a field goal I'd be worried about leaving myself enough time to try and score again if he would put it in the end zone what takes the lead with a field goal I thought it was a terrible decision I absolutely going try put my foot on the floor of the New England Patriots there and I try and win that game right there I'm not trying to give New England the ball back but obviously worked out Brady gets the ball they're driving for the field obviously and it'll mean ons on second down drops a first down pass right in a sense and you know right there it's not going to be the patriots light element doesn't drop passes to drop that ball on second down when he has the first down is an absolute killer and a drive killer you knew right then it wasn't going to be the patriots light
Derrick Henry, Titans stun Patriots 20-13 in wild-card upset

"Well we are lucky to have NFL wild card football some great games ahead we don't pick some games when a we're gonna tell everybody who they should pick because we're pretty smart right when I tell them what to expect here in the weekend ahead first up I mean this is obviously a good game for a number of reasons Ryan Tannehill the tides have been a surprise in the second half of the season are we watching the final days of Tom Brady here's what Brady had to say about going into the playoffs in sort of a new season my answer there
Titans clinch playoff spot with 35-14 win over Texans
"The Tennessee Titans are headed to the playoffs after Derrick Henry ran for two hundred eleven yards and three touchdowns and eight thirty five fourteen win over the Houston Texans hundred and sixty four yards and all three scores came in the second half as the Titans locked down the AFC's final playoff spot in a date with the New England Patriots next week and re believes running the ball will be key in the post season coach gave us no great statistic before he played this game about twelve last year it is showing the teams that won a playoff run the ball effectively emitting the Dayton got a limited Ryan Tannehill completed thirteen of twenty passes for a hundred and ninety eight yards and two touchdowns for the Titans who finished the season nine and seven I'm spelling Houston
Saints chasing NFC's top seed rally to beat Titans 38-28
"Drew Brees throws for three touchdowns and helping Camaro runs into more as the saints rally to beat the Titans thirty eight twenty eight after spotting Tennessee a fourteen nothing lead in the first quarter reason company rattled off twenty four straight to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish that obviously gives a lot of momentum going and a half and then we came out with with the the the ball the first possession in the second half and took the lead right there and then they never looked back the saints improved at twelve and three heading into their regular season finale at Carolina and keep their chances alive at one of the NFC's top two seeds in a first round bye Ryan Tannehill also threw for three scores as as Titans fell the eight and seven I can still clinched the AFC final wildcard spot with a win against the Texans next weekend I'm Danny cap

"Football Dak Prescott and has gained two may speak no contract major implications if you ask me for Dak Prescott coming into this game because performing well good knee. Something good for him. Walli Eric Decadence back joining the show. Now the spot sports. NFL analyst teacher. WHO's Madonna? Let's Gupta Tennessee. We're Ryan Tannehill. Titans hosted Shawn Watson in Texas Sunday in a battle for first place in the AFC south after an MVP caliber. Start to the year. The Shawn Watson has been inconsistent in recent weeks. Meanwhile Tanna hero has been on fire since taking over his titan starter and last week was no different with tannehill putting up huge numbers and a win over. The raiders. Watson was terrible in another loss to the broncos. Are The question here. Is uh-huh better quarterback right. Now this Sunday to Shawn Watson Iran Tannahill Deshaun Watson when when the Texas Texas do something is because of the Shy Washington but when the Tennessee titans do something is not all because of Ryan Tannehill about the running game and we know that the tests Italians have strong. Running game led by Gerry Toma with us now. Though you don't believe in the run game they got the most rushing touchdowns in AFC Tennessee titans and we know that also Houston Texas. Don't have a strong running game because to Shawn Watson has more rushing and touchdowns than all of his running backs combined. Then you look at the defense attorneys. Scorn detections are worse in scoring defense nineteenth compared to the titans. So when does Shawn Watson Austin is rolling this team the question there because who's going to play better on Sunday wasn't okay. I'm I'm what I'm GonNa go with the Shawn Watson lots in in my biggest reason. This says Shawn Watson come into the League Mike. vrabel has been a head coach for the Tennessee. Titans to Shawn Watson Watson is torn one against that defense which is a really stout defence completing seventy three percent of his passes eight touchdowns to interceptions one hundred and twenty passer rating. So although Tennessee is very good on defense is something about that. Defense that does Shawn Watson Ceesay recognizes very quick and he plays well in his receiver. Core is really really show now. Ten a hill. It's almost what the discussion we had earlier. This week is a lightning in a bottle is fools. He's just hasn't done it enough and if you haven't done set games you're sixty one. That's a great thing. But I'm going to shine Watson because he's proven himself over time to me. I'M GONNA go to I mean. I think this is a quarterback to me. Just it does not get the credit he deserves. It didn't have a great offensive line. I mean I don't think that's a great coach instead I know shocking but but but but I'm serious I I just liked the show why I liked it from the beginning. I like the way throws the ball. We play better on Sunday. I forgot the question changed change. I'M GONNA go with the Shawn Watson I I think he's GonNa play better. I go head cut me off. Anyway is certain eighteen that you played well against and just like you just said I'll give you an example. The Rams and the Seahawks we always play well even bad when when when the rams fallen in twelve because why because we matched up well with that offensive line and defensive line this team matches up well with them to Shawn Watson plays well against him. So I'm going with the Shawn Watson when you were with the rams. Am who was your quarterback which one year you ran for two thousand years Jeff Kemp Jeff and I you know I remember that year and you you made life so easy on Jeff campy almost like a passable quarterback in the NFL and Tanny Hill has a horse in the backfield in dear camry. That's what's going to make Tanny hill play a running back is a quarterback best free guys like TJ. Think they're quarterbacks the best friend a wide receiver William full is coming back to know Hannah Netball off and lining up second five. That's the greatest thing you can ever do for Whoa quarter and then guys up front them guys that don't get no have no name guy offensive line and so to me. I don't think what Tanna hills doing really is as fluky as it seems. Deer running game has set the table for a guy who's a relatively good quarterback back to play at a high level. I don't see it stopping this week. They're on a roll the bill O'Brien pushed all his ships into the table with to Houston. Texas traded for Laremy Tunsil. Everything was about this year and is blowing up in their face. I think Tennessee continues to roll. I think Ryan Tannehill contains the role because I think there is gonNA continue to shoved down people's throats. I agree with that. I mean I know what the question was. Was that the question of who play. Because you don't win I mean I think the Shawn Watson have a better day on the football but who is GonNa win the Football Game Tennessee. The timing of when the going is leaving the league in Passer Rating Tannen Outta here. But it is the first outing against this Texas team and we don't know how that's going to play out now. He's played against Bill. O'Brien before and look very good. It gets right at a perfect passer. Rating played against Bill O'Brien before but playing against this Texas his team versus a quarterback. Who's playing against Tennessee before that familiarity comes into play when you take your divisional? Yeah this game right here at the C.. Eh in Tennessee. It means a lot to both teams. Didn't and Romeo Coronel comes under bill. They go they go. Put the game or Ryan Tiny Hill L. shoulders so they're GONNA try to eliminate Henry shoulder they're going to try to eliminate dear. Can we put guys in a box. We going to stop the run interview. If you're as good as they think you're writing you GONNA throw the ball thirty to thirty five times a game and Ugo beat. It's because we're not going to give you this play action we don't let Derrick Cannery Ron for one hundred and forty in you hit us for at least two hundred eighty yards passing. We go to hear Jerry on the practice all week but I will say. He has practice much in the last for weeks because of the hamstring but he shows up on Game Day when you look at it is what it is something about the titans defense he sees is it well. He plays well against them in. When you got de'andre Hopkins Right now? Him Mike Thomas investor receivers Lee. You Got Kenny stills. You've got will fuller. He has weapons on offense and he's going to have their humor and and his greatest then receivers are unless you're lineup. Second and five seconds and four. That's that's what a great running back does for you and a great running game. That's what makes playing quarterback a lot easier or when the second team and you still have the threat of of hand the ball to Eric Dickerson. The dear Henry. That's what makes life easier. I just think all Eric's quarterbacks weren't great. They had him. mm-hmm do.

I'd keep them. Calm. Her too much. They have to super good young linebackers coming down the pike. I think you can cut him. Last one. Greg start with you to Sean Jackson Buchan ears. I think you can find that somewhere else. I'm cutting him. Yeah. Goodbye. Cut them to want to mention on cut him. I hope he gets cut. And then he comes to the Rams. He went to high school here. He's a Long Beach poly kid, and he says he wants to play for Sean McVeigh who was the quarterbacks coach when he played for the Redskins. And I'd love to have to shine Jackson as like a on our receiving core. In case, we get an injury to Cooper, Cupper, Robert woods or Brandin cooks. So I would love for that to happen. "Dolphins Bill. We've got the Miami. Dolphins will be back. Probably maybe seven eight taken all the Buffalo Bills five and ten. I know the dolphins have two more wins than the bills do. But don't you feel like the bills have a future right now? Alan feels like he's you know, he might figure it out. He I mean, Josh Allen Jared Allen, put them he's retired and Frieden horse somewhere. Josh Allen feels like he's gonna figure it out. And if he doesn't he does so much with his legs. It'll be more like the Lamar Jackson kind of player for for the bills team. Yes, you're right. And while we talk about Ryan tannehill. There's always doubts whether he's going to be the guy or not no doubt something that Adam gays talked about earlier this week whether or not he still believes in Ryan tannehill. We haven't found any inconsistency in the entire offense. And somebody's gonna blame the quarterback. We just need everybody doing their job. And then you can really evaluate to quarterback where we really haven't had the consistency. We need on offense to even look at. What is what is really? I mean, we we don't have nobody helps them, and then he starts to try to do more than what he should. And then that hurts him Panthers. Sates Panthers season spy. Barreled out of control. We know the camps banged up despite the best efforts at Christian McCaffrey has been terrific. They're six to nine and the little heat on Ribeiro, though, you and I both think he will be back the saints thirteen in two and drew Brees touch. We don't know the Scituate. We don't see a lot teddy Bridgewater. What will we see Eddie? Drew Brees threw spoke about that. Earlier this week on the starters in the plan going forward. "Son and helps any last thoughts on Ryan tannehill it out and gays one a consistent winner somehow, someway, there's different theories of how that works in the NFL. And I think you know, when you're looking at the Super Bowl from last year. The Nick foles Tom Brady game has really. Embedded the idea. And a lot of mines that winning with average quarterbacks is possible. And yes, clearly it is possible. I just find it more and more. And I really resisted this theory is a fan. But it really does seem to be about consistent quarterback play those or that's just something that's able to overcome other obstacles that a strong running game on a strong defense. Can't always do. So we we we have to find a way to build a consistent winter somehow, someway. Having a complete holistic team works. But I think we need to start with the quarterback physician, first and foremost. You and I just want to say before it comes up. I mean, I kind of been one of those guys pretty pretty adamant about this team name to draft a quarterback. I I don't think that changes regardless of how Ryan tannehill plays. I mean, I said before on that Ryan tannehill rent ran earlier in the season. I said how you know. He is what he is. But he's still our quarterback until he's a on a different team. Who's no longer with the Miami Dolphins? He's our quarterback. But no matter what he does. And he's last six games. The dolphins should have realized you know, with Jay Cutler now with Brock Osweiler this year, they need to get a quarterback. They need to have a backup plan. So regardless of Ryan's goes out there and lights a role on fire. They still draft quarterback. It should still be going after teddy Bridgewater and free agency. If the price is right. They still need to go into next season with rhymes Hanno plays will maybe they can restructure that huge cat number. He he's going to be what thirty one next season. I mean, he he still serviceable quarterback. But at the end of the day, he is he's an Alex Smith. We said it before he's now Smith. And the team needs Patrick Mahomes. Yes. Teams can with Nick foles. But but that that doesn't happen that often. So I think a lot of people might look at that and say, you know, what how sitting they wanted to quarterback earlier in the year. Now, he's re runs and I will always front. But for this team to succeed in the future. They need a better quarterback Ryan tannehill. And I don't think that'll change. No matter how these last six games play out. It all begins once again Ryan tannehill is back at them gays. Six more games to make to the playoffs. Four twenty five PM eastern time the colts one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Ryan dolphins limping in struggling but getting healthier after their by week still though lots of players and injuries, Irv. Well, the dolphins pull this game off. We'll Ryan Santa he'll come back and play a lights out game lead the dolphins to victory will they falter with a stagnant offense and basically and their season on Sunday. We'll find out in just a few days. We'll have our culture preview later in the week. We'll also house draft talk with Kyle crabs hopefully before Sunday's game as well. We hope you all have a happy thanksgiving. Enjoy the Turkey. Enjoy the football on Thursday. Enjoy black Friday shopping. We will be back with you later this week until that time for Josh outs. "Well, let me let me throw this out there and for the win loss crowd. And that's what makes sample sizes so small in the NFL. So that's why narratives change so quickly is because we base everything off wins and losses and there's only sixteen of them in every season and anybody that's done any type of social science ever done. Any research knows that sixteen of whatever you're trying to do. Due ENA, very good sample size. So things change quickly. So again, these last six games set the dolphins have a lot can be said about Ryan tannehill. And a lot can be said about Adam gays, and it's really gonna be interesting to see how we end up siding on things here. Six games from now. You look at Adam gays, and yes, his offense is not been great. We've all said on this show all three of us that he should give play calling. I still from a believe in that that he should give playcalling be head coach give your input and he Adam gates in his press conference earlier this week hinted at something what he says Stephen Ross talks to them after every game during the week as well. And he said this Stephen Ross understands why the team is so decimated with injuries and not why. But why does he mistrial and because of the injuries and he said that Ross saw what the offense can look like with an healthy our Wilson with the healthy. Devante parker. What the healthy Ryan tannehill? And those pieces are missing now. And then you educate brand there too. So it sounds like barring a complete collapse. The Adam gazes is coming back for another season. Whether anyone likes it or not now, I'm sure there will be changes on some of the staff, I think we'll get into defensive coordinator room. Leaked during the bye week from. I believe it was three yards per carry. The Adam gates wanted to bring Vic Fangio Adam gays wanted Vic Fangio ever since you enter for the job in San Francisco. But Stephen Ross who was snake bit from all the money. He spent on Vance Joseph who left after one year and the contract, I guess frontloaded he wanted to promote someone from within. So we'll Adam gates get his way this off season. We will see the only thing for me. And I think Adam gates should return..

"Granted they've played against you know, buffalo and Oakland and the process, but that we've played Oakland to and got that victory there. So I mean, it's. The colts are good team right now, they have momentum. They just beat their division rival thirty eight ten at home. So they're back in Lucas oil stadium. I don't think momentum wise the sets up well for us, despite the fact that we had the by week there, but how many worthwhile repetitions were there for tannahill while he's going through this injury. Did he have as many reps in practice that he normally would I can't answer that question. My my assumption, though is probably not as many as he would normally have. Then you couple that with on James coming back their interior line. Not being there to Kane grant being injured just I just don't see a great recipe for success on offense on Sunday. And with a really hot offense of team led by Andrew luck. And they're doing a lot of different things. Formation wise. I think that sets up pretty poorly for us on defense as well. This is a good segue into our next segment, but before we jump into that it is want to kind of recap. What you both said. And yes, Ryan tannehill needs to be a super hero in order for the dolphins to make the playoffs because of all the injuries that have occurred on this dolphin team. And you know, Ryan hills not at one hundred percent he admitted as such that he's not hundred percent. But it's what the dolphins need right now. And I think there's no doubt in my mind that Ryan hill is absolutely pushing himself to come back for this game. And I don't think he's fully ready. But this game is Jewish at the dolphins. Lose this game on Sunday. They can pretty much write themselves out of the playoffs because they will then have lost the tiebreaker between the Bengals and the colts. And when you look at the AFC standings right now, you got sixteen to get patriots. Guess dolphins are two games out there probably gonna win the AFC east chiefs and charters are neck to neck. We'll see what happens every one of them. Get the wall. Card. I've seen north you got the Steelers ending the ravens with five losses. Bengals was fi losses. But the Bengals will need to lose more than the dolphins will lose Steelers. You're gonna win that division. Pretty sure then you gotta Texas who are probably gonna win that division. Then you gotta tighten the dolphin hold the tiebreaker over and the colts. So the dolphins against the colts doll go to five and six they'll have the tiebreaker loss against the colts in the Bengals you can pretty much end their season, right then and there unless they go on crazy run and some miracles happen. The rest of the way. Now all that said the dolphins right now are five and five. They are decimated with injuries. Over a dozen players on injuries Irv at one point during the Packers game. They have three offenses starters playing from opening day to came grant the latest offensive player to go on injuries, Irv. Adam gays as been a subject of a ton of criticism this season, some deservedly some not so deservedly. I'm gonna jump on here right now say that his criticism of him being five and five is totally undeserved. Amount of injuries. They have and the fact that they went up to Green Bay with only three offense of starters from opening day at one point in the game. And to still have a chance all the way up until almost the fourth quarter with rock us while as you're starting quarterback. I think speaks a ton of as to what atom gazes doing with this team..

"I'm going to say yes, Ryan tannehill come back, and he can do everything that we kinda dream of kind of sit there and think about throughout the day. You know, what if the dolphins make a place what Frontino comes back this week or my shoulder injury that many people think he'd come back from for few more weeks and go out there and all the foreign to record down the stretch and get this team in the playoffs. Maybe wanna playoff game. It's it setting up to be one of those moments that you know, the dolphins don't Santa chance to do it because it's the dolphins. But I think Ryan tannehill at some point he needs to realize that his NFL career relies on sure their teams out there that love Ryan tannehill. But his days in Miami are numbered, and he can go out there, and you know, rewrite his legacy a Miami. If he goes out there and be Cindy continues to do so throughout the rest of the season. I mean, they play buffalo twice. You know, they got Minnesota who's struggling they got these games. They haven't beaten to England this year mean that's the team that beat every single year seemed so they have these games that they can go out there and win. It's just Kenny injuries. Can they overcome all the injuries? I think it's going be a tough task. But the Homer me says Ryan channels gonna go out there. Go forward to lead the dolphins to the playoffs narratives can change in six games. We've already seen that happen this year. Look what happened in the first three games of the season. What we were saying about Ryan tannehill. And then the next cohort a games what we were saying about Ryan tannehill. So you just you have to wonder just about the return from injury at self? You know, we have to consider that for a second. We know Ryan tannehill tough SOB. Okay. We know the pedigree that he's had the shots that he's taken and bounce back from a lot of them. He's had a rough stretch here lately. But I don't think anyone can really question his toughness, his durability. Yes. But not his toughness. So he's got the toughness factor here. And I almost wonder a little bit of he's coming back. Rushing a little bit. That's just me just being curious about the situation. But. With that. With that being said, I was a college basketball athlete trying to return from an injury, myself and peak performance and sports depends on repetitive consistent muscle memory. And Ryan tannehill just for the sake of half take a break from the capsule or injury that he had you have to wonder how effective is going to be. We already have the the struggles. With our first drives and early in games. How is that going to jive with Ryan Tanno coming back from a month-long injury? So I'm very worried about how the opening scripts and all that kind of stuff are gonna play out you'd like to hope that the the running game gets involved there. But just to backtrack a couple of weeks when we when we interviewed Dr Chow, I specifically asked him. About the susceptibility of Tanna hills injury. And how likely it is to be reactivated. And what he said was if the pain is coming from the capture injury it self. It's not a good sign, and this is paraphrase, please don't hold me to this for Begum. But this is paraphrase if it's the capsule injury self it's not good if it's the surrounding areas than that's the type of pain that you can kind of fight through some very curious 'cause Ryan did admit that there still some pain there. Where is the pain? That's where I'm curious because I don't want Ryan tannehill to go on a kamikaze mission and rush out here with the dying hopes of a playoff berth. When I still think even with Ryan tannehill under center, I do not believe we are good enough to make the playoffs this year. I'll be rooting for them. Like everybody else. Please don't get me wrong. But the colts are favored by eight point threes in the colts our foreign on their last four games there scoring at a ridiculous rate..

"He doesn't really have much distance on his throws or anything and this is a month and a day from when the injury happened. I know he's had a rough go of it lately, injury wise. But the dude I don't think we can really question as toughness. I mean, we can question how valuable he is. But I don't think we can really question as top nece. So if this guy is still reporting some significant pain after month of after this is already happened. I think you know, the the fact that the dolphins are of dialing back everything in terms of how much they're they're pushing him to get out there and makes throws I think you have to take into consideration that this. Is going to be a longer term recovery than the maybe we had hoped for. I'm thinking he's done guys. Sad. It's a sad situation. And I don't wanna be that guy. But I'm going to be that guy. When we all sat here all three of us leading up to the draft. And we all sat there on Twitter. And we said that it's not that. We don't like Ryan tannehill. We can still like Ryan tannehill. Who could also want insurance in case Ryan tannehill reinjured his knee or gets injured in some other way. And here we are. It was not even what four weeks into the season or absolute actually after four weeks of season. And the dolphins have a quarterback problem and Ryan Tanna hill may not play again this season. He may not play another snap for the Miami Dolphins and make if it's Patrick is an absolute stud and the back that he's a stud will help the dolphins. Get off the hook with this. Hit if he was if they pick someone else other than Minka Fitzpatrick, and that person turned out to be a bus less far. And it was still too early to call it that. But if that person was not contributing thus far this season. And you had a broadcast starting quarterback. Believe me, you there'd be a up war about why the dolphins not select a quarterback Josh Rosen, and it could be it could have been Josh Rosen time here in Miami. And we could've been looking towards the future. And who knows we could have been winning games. But in no way, am I saying mink, if it's back Patrick was the wrong pick because dude is an absolute stud. He's a shutdown secondary player. No matter where he is. And he's going to be a star in the NFL, but revisionist history they should've they should've picked the quarterback somewhere any lasts son in house. Not probably I we talked about this so many weeks leading up to the draft and guy hated on on Twitter. You know, you're not a Ryan tannehill fan you're not fan of this team. And it's just I mean, this is proof right here. I mean it had Nelson. Do Ryan tannehill do this health. Sure. This wasn't about as ACL injury that he had. But we're now without Ryan tannehill and Brock osweiler's quarterback. Just like last year. Was Jay Cutler something needs to change teams. Go out there and find their quarterback even frontier comes back on the cheaper deal, maybe compete starring John next year. But you need to do something because it's it's getting out of hand. And I mean, if they don't make this year, it's another prime example. Why it's because you didn't have a backup plan in place. Teddy Bridgewater would have been nice, but a rookie anything. I mean, they just completely abandoned draftsman quarterback. Brennan doubt. He was the only one that this. They've drafted sense Tanahun. It's it's been ugly..

All right. Dr let's get straight to it. You have seen Ryan tannehill from a distance. You have not examined him. You know, have any inside information. You've just seen him talk at his press conferences, you have seen the play. You've looked at film of Ryan a hill. And you know, the injuries that have occurred in the NFL over the years in a nutshell. Can you tell us what's going on in your opinion with Ryan a hill? Thanks for studying beltway. I've never right Jenny hill. That I've seen. From ill insider information here more insider knowledge from being in the NFL and knowing what these injuries are. And also studied injuries on video, and I did look at a video the Bengals gaming cetera of the jet. Joe shoulder. Rivers that he was out. There was talk about how he was going to be out because of the joy, spraying the raiders. I didn't believe that at all. But once I saw the video of the Bengals hit where he was fully. Ended up having arm. Stop by Carla Dunlap. That's why I wrote on October fifteen that there is worry assery injury. Which is spin. And that's just hard to predict and how do terms of line. However based on the article that I wrote yesterday from Ryan's comments. I don't think he's that close. I'm not trying to be human clue. But I think it's pretty optimistic to think that he'll be back after the bye. Doctor. You actually told the Palm Beach post this morning that you think Ryan I was more like with yelp for the season that he has to be back for the colts game. Now, you mentioned you had not examined Ryan tannehill just seen. What's been going on film, and so forth? If you're making assumption, right? And you have the experience to to do this. And to look at these things and kind of get a feel for what's going on. Why does it seem the dolphins can't find that kind of round as well? They've been saying for the past few weeks. We'll see about the ultimate we will see about the upcoming week is this comedy NFL to kind of lead. Opponents maybe down the wrong path toward you. They really feel like Ryan tannehill could get back on track sooner rather than later. I don't know. Dolphins are thinking inside the building. Not that. I don't know what they're. What they're doing. I always find that. Understanding. But if we did know all fast understand why they're doing. Could be misleading opponents they could be keeping alive players in the building. And Ryan tannehill optimistic there could be other reasons that I'm thinking of but your doctors good trains. I believe what they're doing on the outside looking in no way. Whatsoever. I'm just saying that Ryan told us. Yesterday once going on basically said he tore his castle. What I mean is he says we have to let the castle. He'll well, if there's no tear, what's the he'll he says the capital stretched, you didn't use the word tear, but stretched medically. At least partial share that's part of what I. A little while nothing wrong mystic..

"Ryan tannehill injury controversy and the Brock lobster now. At starting quarterback for the dolphins. It just drags down that win loss record to help us make sense of what's happening in south Florida. Our good friend Armando sow Garo very herald, it's been awhile or Mondo. I have missed talking to you. How are you? My friend. Who are you again? Yes, it's rock Tober fast, Mike, Florio, happy Brock's over fat. Now, here's the most important question. I can ask you I saw that Ricky Shaw Francois the lions has sent a bunch of donuts to the Miami Herald newsroom, I want to know how many of the donuts you eight and the over under. You're the over under was three and a half. So you double it. Take the over. Performance to my highest capabilities possible all the time. What free food? And so therefore, you know, there was a sprinkle cream in there somewhere. And there was a glaze, which, you know, I'm all about glaze. I didn't have any coffee though, because that kind of fills you up and then limits your ability. Diego all seven one after another like a chain smoker. And you take a little break in between. Well, the way you have to approach this Florio and take notes now you don't eat all of them one. After the other you make and you mingle you take a bite here, you take a bite over there. You take a bite. Elsewhere you make all the donuts happy at one. And that way, it's like a family going on. A family outing of donuts going on in your stomach. It's it's it's it's just a happy happy occasion for all the donuts fulfilling their duties of being eaten by a fat sportswriter. It's great. We're now this is a new frontier for me. I had never thought about the possibility of partially consuming different donuts out of the same box for me. It's always eat that whole Donut. But this may be a new thing like a little corner off of one little piece off of another and just work your way through them gradually. I kind of like that. I kind of like that approach. I think I'm going to have to go get me some donuts typical media. You misquote me? I didn't say take a little piece. I take a full on bite of one doughnut all full on bite of another Donut. Full on the next. Don't go down the line, seven doughnuts and come back to the first doughnut and take another bite Florio. What's wrong with you? So it's like a giant corn on the cob. Then that's how you doing it. All right. Thank you. Okay. Now. I get it. All right. Well, I'll try that as well. I may go into a common not emerged from it for a couple of days. But I may give that a try. I want to go back to Sunday after the dolphins somehow beat the Chicago Bears, and we'll get into those details a little bit. But you were part of the the media contingent that was questioning Adam gays about Ryan tannehill. We got a little testy, but you know, history as it is unfolded this week has proven that there is something fishy going on there with Ryan tannehill. What happened last week that resulted in tannahill being questionable on Friday? And then out of the blue on Sunday morning. He's not playing. So he was injured in the fourth quarter late in the fourth quarter game at Cincinnati and. They obviously knew about it on Monday. Or at least they knew that. There was something wrong. He got treatment on Monday. He got treatment on Tuesday. Then they put him out at practice any practice full on Wednesday. And he didn't feel so great about that. Thursday. He was you know, he was in trouble a little bit at the practice. Practice full. Again. You gotta understand Florio. Thursday is the passing day practice for the Miami. Dolphins. So he goes through the full practice. According to the injury report that the dolphins filed by Friday, he was having trouble. But he's still practice on a limited basis. And you know, they listed him as questionable after he had an entire week of struggles. But they just were practising him by Saturday evening. It was pretty clear that there was a significant, you know, problem with Ryan tannehill. And I think what the league is looking at is the fact that they left them as questionable as he was getting worse during the week. They didn't change his status from questionable to doubtful on Saturday is some teams do when things get bad. And the league is looking at that reports came out. You know, Sunday morning that. Ryan tannehill is very very questionable. If not doubtful to play this game and raised the issue with the NFL because of the fact that when reports are saying that he's doubtful play the game before the game. And their injury report says that he's questionable you know there. There's something that they're going to look at their. Yeah. And I think the first evidence that I noticed Armindo came when the betting line started to move dramatically in favor of the Chicago Bears. And that means somebody knew something, and that's why that injury report is there. Yes. A certain amount of it is competitive balance among the teams, but it's about having integrity of the game. And it's about having no appearance of inside information. There clearly was inside information here. Of course, the irony is everybody who bet the bears thinking that they were an easy winner ended up being dead wrong because of Brock Tober fast. So let's follow it up there. Then Brock Osweiler. How surprised were you by the way, he performed? And is this something that given his mastery of the offense? He can continue. I was very surprised for the simple fact that I saw him practice during training camp. And those were not impressive in the least. I also saw him play. And with the exception. I think of one preseason games. You know, he seems not very good. And if you look at that, and you put it against the backdrop of a career in which multiple teams have had him on the roster and then want him on the roster. You figure, you know. This is not going to be a good experience. Just thrusting a guy into a starting assignment against a very good bears defense and a potential defensive MVP candidate in Khalil Mack. And yet very was and he threw for three hundred and eighty yards you had the two interceptions. But he also had three touchdowns and the dolphins. Racked up five hundred forty one yards which was not just the most this year. But it's the most in team history and the other four were done under Dan Marino. So it's Dan Marino. Dan marino. Dan marino. Dan marino. Knbr Brock Osweiler. So that was very surprising going forward. He's going to start again this week probably next Thursday against the Houston. Texans. What I would say to you that we're going to see now is at some point. There's going to be a regression demean. Meaning you're gonna get not ninety five quarterback rating. Brock Osweiler not retouched downs. Brock Osweiler not necessarily five hundred forty one yards of offense Brock Osweiler. But you're going to get something much less which. Will get us to where he's the guy that he's always been. But let's say he can keep this going. I can't help but wonder onto whether or not Adam gays will continue to ride with Brock Osweiler until Ryan tannehill is quote, unquote. One hundred percent we've seen that from time to time tannehill won't be one hundred percent until.
