"And i think that's important because you know even a team like the colts overall. They had the easiest schedule in the nfl this year. And so. I think that stuff does matter when you kinda take all these numbers into account and say well. What were they actually Dealing with here. So i think there's hope for them to be to be competitive. I do like the question of like. How deep do they have to go in the playoffs. Mitchell trubisky in extension. because it's a legitimate not is not nowhere. I mean if they get to the nfc title game we probably getting one. That's two wins and so bears fans probably do not want to even hear. Those scenarios are podcast for bears. Fans over the years. Like having to talk themselves in a rex. Grossman like yeah. We like this like this is good. This is good right back. Like hey foles are you kidding. You see what he did against hats. she'll kapadia. You can read him at the athletic as i said and the last name is k. Apa dia to find him on twitter. Thanks a lot appreciate it. Thanks for having me. You want details by. I drive a ferrari. Three fifty five cabriolet. What's up. i have a ridiculous house in the south fork. I have every tour. You could possibly imagine best of all kids. I am liquid so now you know what's possible. Let me tell you what's required life advice for the weekend. Like advice are are gmail.com. It's really been awesome getting all these emails kyle And the numbers of emails have been terrific so thanks a lot for join this part of it because it's just a break from the rest of the stuff and that's really what we wanted to do and have some kind of cool too close to and and it seems like it's it's really worked out so I appreciate it seriously. All right here we go have. You don't want to turn this into a red chat room here but there are a lot of follow ups now. We're getting a lot of follow-up emails based on other guys in for the most part this one's important though because it's about pickup hey was listening to life advice about the subpar hooper and celebration who was playing music while working on his jumper and his air monarchs If the situation wasn't bad enough. I live in celebration and can say that that outdoor court that is available is great except the hoops are only eight and a half feet high. What what is. It wasn't embarrassing enough. This guys out there grinding on hoops. They're more fit for the three and six year olds in himself. But i would add that extra wrinkle situation. We're hoping it's still the same hoops. I actually hope that that's true. We don't know. I mean our guys saying hey i lived there. These were the courts are so now. We need a followup from dad to ask if they were actually eight and a half foot hoops because if you roll out of a mercedes grey flint tights underneath ready to ball. Little yati gone in. It's eight and a half feet. You should be arrested for that seriously. And then we had people jumping in on the air monitoring. Where kyle i you know. I don't have any problem. People stepping me on some of the stuff but they should not step to you. Hey just listened to the podcast and wanted to drop a quick line regarding The pickup hoops while kyle's association with his dad and air monarchs along with ryan's confusion with little yati fans footwear. Choices understandable a certain subsection speaker fans are into that type of look these days at thirty seven. It's not my personal preference but the covid aged five year. Old crowd appears to be all in chunky. Sneaker look hey dude. I've been to parties in malibu and west hollywood. I am aware of the chunky sneaker. Look so i take offense that even though i'm on the older side of things still aware enough the social spectrum so i just don't i don't know i you can. You can question me on it. But i know i sound sensitive about this right now and that's fine but the idea that kyle doesn't know that chunky sneakers aren't in are you kidding. Me guy runs sunset when things are normal. So kyle feel free to add anything to that. I got nothing. No response to that. Not going to dignify go okay. Let's do some life advice. Once all right i've been a fan of the work espy. Here's a rundown five nine. Two hundred built like a nineteenth century strongman but probably only a six in the looks department. If you're calling yourself a six at twenty one. I've noticed this. This is an amazing thing. I don't know what science and scientists have actually worked on this but the younger you are the higher you rate. Your guy yourselves if that's the deal. Is you get a little bit older. You're like harriet whom i can. So if you're saying you're six at twenty one maybe you're six though or maybe a really hard on yourself. Maybe you're looking sneaky. Seven also depends on the town. Geography has a lot to do with this. You know you could be you know. Look at pam beesley scranton manhattan kidney. Finishing his engineering degree been single for awhile with the pandemic goes back my small hometown for the fault. Maybe it was the dry spell or the nostalgia back home. But i've been snapped chatting my high school girlfriend again our siblings or friends so we've had Limited on and off contact. Ever since i broke up with her. It wasn't like. I just hit her up out of the blue. We're talking probably a couple of years here if he's twenty one twenty two junior senior so all right. We're talking three or four years. She's pretty hot shadow in high school. She was county fair queen in a run into those every day and a three sport athlete and she certainly hasn't let herself go. Okay check out my man. So she's finishing up a degree in teaching volunteer coaching basketball. Our old school so look at that. She wants to help other people on paper. We should have worked out. We wanted similar things at alive and had similar views on most of the big picture questions at the time. The only problem are chemistry. We didn't mesh well. All the previously mentioned perks of hers. A girlfriend kept me around at the time. I had female friends. I'd rather hang out with in her. Oh not a romantic sense though. Okay save. I just enjoy their company more than hers. I thought that was a red flag. So i ended things after dating while probably later than i should have. My question is should. I give her a second chance. It's been a few years and people change different. I'm sure she is to the problem. Is our families are closed. And i already broke. Her heart. Wants as much as i'd like to. Is that mariah carey that saying heartbreaker by the a lot of people have but i thought she had one. That was pretty good as much as i'd like to just have a casual physical relationship with her. That doesn't seem like a possibility. Given the circumstances type of girl. I know she was in high school. do i flirted up and see where things go or keep an arm's length continue on my life all right. Not a uncommon in common dilemma. Here so you did start this off though santana no dry speller of i'm back home all right so be honest like you care about this person's feelings okay so if it's an option because of the history there's two ways this can go because of the history it's like. Hey we already tried it. We know it's not going anywhere but we're stuck pandemic or both back in town and we're kind of finishing school so hey it's cool all right is it. Sounds like what you want..

"Now i think the defense is right there in the conversation with the rams so i definitely like the steelers in the wildcard round and then i kind of want to see how. They're gonna play here whether they're going to be aggressive. Whether the offense is gonna look better as to what. They're ceiling us. I love the pressure rate stuff. Because it really tells you. Who's getting home. Who's winning and pittsburgh. Which is that a is that just what the four was that blitz rate because. Where'd you have them. As far as their pressurized wins in the league. Yeah that that that's total and you're that's a great point because they blitz. I think more than any other team so when you do that obviously you're going to be able to scheme things up. But i think their numbers are pretty good whether they're rushing four or whether they're blitzing i mean they've got so many guys up front. What gets all the attention and rightfully so but stefan to it. I mean i couldn't believe it. When i looked up his numbers eleven sacks on the season cam heyward is the guy who like every offensive coordinators. Like you know cam heyward doesn't get enough love this no cheerier guys. So usually those guys like you're you're you're tackles aren't educated and eleven sacks. I love him. I i feel like there's all these times. Replace her out to the side tack on the running back. And you're like there. Yeah yeah he's great and then minkah fitzpatrick on the back. End is one of the best defensive players in the league period so They're just rock-solid i mean they can take over a game they can force turnovers. It seems like what forces a turnover every game. So i'm not like totally out on them. I know some people are totally out on them because of the way like last month went with their offense. I still feel like there's a chance that they're a team that can like make some noise and maybe even pull off an upset there In the divisional round the reason. I liked the steelers. It isn't just. The limitations was too fancy into coaching staff here. But i i love this number two from the of football. Outsiders guys the variants number of looking at here is what are you at your best. What are you what your worst. And how wide is that. Gap and cleveland coming in offensively They're the second widest variance on the high end of the lower. The only team worse than offensively this year with the new england patriots was makes. All the sense of the world is actually surprisingly. Had that many high variance games to be honest with you for new england's offense. But what have you seen from cleveland browns. Fans though like there's some sundays were it. Looks great and there's others where it isn't in the usually the ones it doesn't look raise but breakers of baker's deal with pressure. I would think this steelers defense in the playoffs. That's going to be the biggest part of this. Which doesn't have a great track record. Baker i i think you nailed it right there. I mean they're all offensive line has been arguably the best in the nfl and so when he has time their offense can look really good. I didn't think the offense had a high ceiling and then all of a sudden the last month of the season they had that game against the ravens I forget what i think against tennessee. Right there putting up forty points like two or three weeks. We'll see get right. Everybody's putting up forty against them but so there ceiling is a little bit higher than i anticipated. Now they do a lot of good. Things schematic lead to kind of not let baker get a lot of pressure. You know the bootlegs. They're getting him all the play action. They're getting him out to one side to really help him and he definitely did play better. I mean in terms of accuracy decision. Making all those different types of things and then if they have a lead in the fourth quarter with that offensive line in that run game it felt like every other week. Nick chubb had like a thirty five yard. Run with four minutes left in the fourth quarter and they just put the game away so That's the key there but you know that they face a very tough match up against that sealers front. So it sounds like we're both going pittsburgh there on that one And there's also the dens award situation here as well with cleveland so we're talking about two completely different defenses with their best player in the secondary. They're all right So you had pittsburgh going back this you trust the rams the most we're going to trust rankings Pittsburgh the saints want surprised me a bit so if we jump ahead to their game and i'm just trying to remind myself here that all right we know about the offensive issues with kamara and thomas. We're taping this thursday night so we to have an update by the time. A lot of you guys hear this but you know. I don't know the chicago is going to be tested. This chicago story is a nice story. But i don't know that it's a real story and it's actually probably the best case scenario here for new orleans going up against a team like this you know look we could probably figure some things out here and then if we don't have all of our guys i mean i know i'm not trying to write off anybody here but if i'm new orleans through the play the virus. Yeah there's no doubt about it. They they got a great matchup here and they've been kind of figuring out ways to win without their top guys for two years here whether it was quarterback or anybody else so their defense is interesting because you talked about their defense has the highest variants in the nfl. And everybody just so they understand right. That's it means you know on their best day they match match up with the high powered offenses on their worst day. They can just get absolutely lit up and you're thinking like how did i ever believe in this defense. So those are the tough teams to gamble onto the high variance ones. Because you could just be in a situation where you think one thing and then all of a sudden saturday or sunday comes around and you think something else. So they do a lot of different things kind of with their their coverages. They play a lot of man coverage and they also play a lot with two deep safety. So if you want to you know line up and just run the ball on them or try to run the ball on them all day long. You can do that. They're gonna play with a lot of defensive backs but they are tough in the passing game. They can match up to a lot of different guys whether it's wide receivers tight ends whatever and Their pass rush. It's kind of their pass rushes based on the ability to make the quarterback hold the football so they play man coverage make the qb hold the football and then they kinda get home that way. Is there any thought. Just from watching or a statistical breakdown where you go. I like chicago in this spot. Because there's something that chicago does offensively thinking can exploit something that happens with. Roy is new orleans win rate as far as their pass. Rush is very low. I don't think it's a big surprise. I like the names. But they don't get home a lot and you know they're secondary it's not like a bunch of athletes flying around their older players that are physical which can be great. sometimes. But i don't know if mitch is the guide to exploit that even though you know. Look i think art standards for mitchell pretty low so we probably felt better about him. The last month the closing about the season yet at the one thing that stood out. Somme wh when. I was doing the analysis of this game. So you look at what they've done with trubisky since he's been back in the lineup and they've been heavy heavy play action. I mean they almost look like the titans and ryan tannehill with the rates. They're using play action and to trubisky's credit again.

"You're like man band why you do that. And then go back out there and throw five touchdown so just you just. Sometimes you never know what you're going to give. But his is always good to have him on your side and other side. Well you need him more than ever this year because i think if there are two weaknesses of this team the first one would be to pretty mediocre running game the rays. And so you're you're up three with four minutes left and you just need a first down. Odds are you're not running for that. I doubt they ben's going to have to make a play and he's going to have to go to claypool or washington and traffic or if everybody's stacking the line that maybe juju deep whatever but it's he's gonna decide that i and you're not just going to be able to do it. The way like tennessee would be able to sue the the one thing as a misconception with the steelers though is that we actually need. Sometimes you don't even try though like yeah we're like we're averaging almost three yards a carry on went to the fourth quarter when we start running the ball more and but we just. We just weren't running ball. We have fifty passes to thirteen runs and thirty or forty yards. Thirty weather forty hours. Isn't that bad. That's not bad 'cause if you like three and a half yards a carry that's a first down every time you run the ball like and not that three times you the ball. So we weren't really were really read a ball effectively a lot of times. We don't see like splash rants or just consistently five or ten yard run. We just get away from an extremely fries and That's the one. China does give me with his team and and we do need being for that. So can we try to do a lot of short passes and make those ads runs. New short passes third and four up. Got bad at down when the guy sands like all of a sudden you're opening all this kind of stuff and you don't really have the great tight end to go to either. What would you do if you're the defensive coordinator against the steelers team without giving too many secrets You would like if i. I'm thinking like a ballot. Check was buying in this team in a playoff game which actually conceivably could happen. It could be a two seven me. That could be six hundred six after this weekend. I'm still entertaining thoughts. Terrible yogurt have to win. You're gonna have to win a playoff game two players. Well i'm saying if k. k. c. catches. You know we're not losing any games okay. I doubt ballot check plays in the playoffs. And he's basically going to be like letting you throw the ball. I'm not letting get big place. So if you wanna rush connor and snell forty five times for four to five yards of pop. Go ahead be my guest. But what. I'm not going to let you throw the vagaries of us. You look eh james's stats when he gets like fifteen or twenty plus carries he always a monster game always but it just never really especially this year we really never have been letting him get to that saving them. I don't know they're saving them. I don't i don't think they're saving them but we need to run a ball especially now in december january. This is when you have to establish it. Yeah we need. We need to run more But i feel if a team is a first of all it is not the type of person that's gonna let you be like you're not going to throw it on me like that's like saying we're not gonna let me and i'm not saying binny's mahomes but he he has that type of mentality he's like you're not. You're not gonna try me as a quarterback like that so he's gonna tip he's gonna tip them trying to be a good passer but we we're gonna to the ball better we we're gonna have to run the ball better and i really feel if somebody tried to put us in a running match. We have to run the ball. I think we can. Because james is still good enough running back. If you going nook nickel personnel and we're in process. He still good enough runabout. He's going to get five yards in pop at then but if you start stacking box. That's what i feel is going to be a problem for us. Running well the other issue i mentioned you won issue. Which was the running game. The other one is youtube terrible injuries. The illusion of bush. And then this week you lose. But debris and i would say you had four truly elite defensive players and now you're naive to yeah that that really hurt that really hurt Lose him is used because him in him and tedious running mates you seen in the stats is said that they had the most success between two people this season and i. It is sucks to see that that he hurt me. He's having to mazda years last year he had a great year this year. He was just doing exactly the same as last year and wh- really makes us having me because but butter friends and and I feel so sad because he had a. He has a huge contract. Coming up in we ever get injured. I it always. It always pays doubt in your mind. If you're going to get a contract that you're supposed to give. But i think he is even worse than that though. Because they franchise tag them. Yes is the problem with the franchise tag right where the team is basically saying. Yeah we're gonna rolled-over but you still don't have the security of long-term deal you get paid for one year but the risk is at could get hurt and now it's like dak prescott at the same thing. Obviously but it sucks to me. I always feel that the steelers were gonna resign but me personally but you know. He went to free agency. He'll probably get more money but now we have to see how that works. I feel i. Now deduct going to resolve them Just for less. I mean is not going to get. He's not gonna have arizona. Come in and over the top or some other team being like here. Here's a giant check. You don't you don't think so. Because he got her he he was last year he had eleven and a half sacks this year he had nine you know. So here's here's on track to get ten plus again. So he is. Don't be considered a leap pass. Rusher you don't think you'll when you when you get him back though. 'cause even acl even if it's like ten months that's still taking like six weeks into the season so you paying this premium price. The other thing i think. Is you know the cap might go backwards next year. Because they didn't get radio side. You think i bet my guess would be the steelers would take care of them. Because i think they're pretty. I would say out of all the. Nfl franchises one of the standup franchises. And they'll probably do right by them. But it's a bummer. Because i think he would have been one of the marquis guys one hundred so he brought it if not he bought a been top five highest. Pay free agency players if you went to free agency next year visit You've talked about tom on on ringer. Nfl show but not on this podcast. "A._b._c.'s value pretty quickly <hes> because not only will pittsburgh half the phillies void. They're gonna gonna do so all facing a projected top five scheduled pass defenses show interesting situation are big ben's going to have to step is game other receivers specifically. James washington are going to have to step up when we look at them defensively. I mean i do want to ask about how you interpret. What the market mark fields the steelers are going to be this season. The strength is typically been their ability to get after the quarterback. I mean they should be good there again. I think we were both in agreement that pick trading up to to make sure they got devon bush to be the potential replacement for ryan shazier. Bring some of that strength physicality and speed that they desperately lacked but when you look at the steelers stop stop unit overall. How do you grade them out going into the twelve weeks on the off season podcasts. I'll say it again. This steelers defense has to finish top five. <hes> <hes> or in my mind is going to be an underachieving season. <hes> i'm not a mike tomlin guy. Our audience knows that very well but i think you know he showed some signs signs of improvement. You have to look at it without biased. I liked the changes that i saw from tomlin's defense from the bye week on it was it was all about getting back to basics dumbing things down simplifying his call so guys could play downhill and move around faster not have to worry about things from week. Seven onward pittsburgh's defense was topped seven seven in both passing and rushing success rate. They also finished second quarterback pressure rate as you alluded to. I was glowing when the steelers went out and landed devon bush. I'm not someone who loves teams moving up in the draft but he fills a clear void his father's also n._f._s. You legacy got so i i like the family i like bush. <hes> you're here. You're look at pittsburgh. They get that sideline to sideline thumper back in the middle of defense. That's that's been sorely missed. Since the you know the unfortunate ryan shazier injured they add mark barron and steven nelson a top thirty corner and the other thing is we project the steelers defense to face a bottom third schedule of opposing offenses season last year. It was the six toughest. I think mike tomlin noses time's running out right to me that one year extension that he it wasn't a positive sign. It was a proven type deal so i really like this defensive here. What do you feel about the market and how the market has treated the pittsburgh steelers right. Now i mean we've seen money. Come in both ways on this win total abaco hata. Just put it that way. There's there's two groups with differing opinions. One is not high on pittsburgh. One is high on pittsburgh and and that is why you're seeing fluctuation. There is a battle dylan. I think nines probably a good number and it'll be fun to see wins. That battle comes seasons. It just say one thing too. When you look at the steelers final note here i mean this is a team. Schedule-wise schedule-wise thinks setup relatively favorably as far as home road splits early on <hes> but you look at how things will play out over the last seven weeks five of those games will be on the road at at cleveland at cincinnati home date against cleveland at arizona home against buffalo and they finish up a two games on the road at the jets and baltimore so it steelers having known what their home road splits have looked like in the past they better make sure they're a little bit more buttoned up when they go on the road if they're gonna have to win meaningful football games no question that's usually wear your coaching staff is on full all display when you're coaching home you know what are you doing on the road and i think that's that's a telling sign. So that was a good point. You made their when we shift to the a._f._c. South and i just wanna make sure because my alphabets a little bit weak when we go through you wanna texans one colts to jaguar three retired. Tell her that education's fan off. You know what every now and again i mean. I looked at the list of top colleges that came out. Wesleyan continues to drunk in the national profile so i think i think diminishing what i had to spend to get that education at a liberal arts university.

"But to your earlier point about Ryan shazier, this is a team that can't control the middle of the football field. And if you can't control the middle of the football field, you are going to struggle. That's exactly what Tampa Bay has been doing. The first two weeks of the season for all the hype that Sean Jackson and Mike Evans are getting. It's really about Kris Godwin OJ Howard being productive in that middle of the field, providing easy completion for Ryan Fitzpatrick, which opens up things on the outside and one on one coverage. That's what it is. Books. Offense has been high flying. This Pittsburgh Steelers defense has got to figure out in a hurry because Monday night is fast approaching, and if they have been performing the same ways that they've been the first couple of weeks of the season, that could be another. Long night for that defense. What do you think is most important thing for this team to quickly turn things around? Obviously they're not gonna replace shazier overnight and you're not gonna get lazy and bell. Most likely Monday night. You took both? Both of my answers. I mean, what's the most important thing is they have now I don't hold against them not being able to overcome Shays ears injury during the season last year. Not only was it a huge loss for them personnel wise. But emotionally, I think seeing your leader on defense, whether having the question whether or not he can walk again, I would imagine that makes it harder to play. Pro football makes it harder to go out there and stick your head in the way. You're almost taught to metaphorically defensively. They have had an off season to not only emotionally recover from that book. Personnel wise figure out how we are going to replace this great player. And the other thing is they do need Levy on belvin. They, they sense the big three, triple b.'s, whatever you wanna call them being together when all three play their forty one in nineteen. When. One of them is out there fifteen thirteen and one they go from one of the best teams in the league to an average to below average team. They need lady on Belbek and that is a front office decision is wide open. They made the choice to not give him a legitimate long term contract, knowing this was a possible repercussion now I don't think they expected him to go as nuclear as he's gone. Right? But that is right. And so that that is lady on bell, has the power in this situation. I didn't think he was gonna give up nine hundred grand a week, but the far he has that doesn't look like it's going to change this weekend, so they're gonna have to find a way Monday night likely to win without him. They probably thought what happened last year was gonna happen this year with hold out, eventually signing joined the team sense is tender and then play out with miscalculation. Little just Lou outside. I take a break coming up. Can Russell Wilson say the Seahawks season against the Dallas Cowboys? That's next. This is first things first. "Ryan shazier held his first press conference wednesday morning since he suffered that terrifying spinal injury in week thirteen last year he underwent spinal stabilization surgery in december we saw him come out with a very noticeable limp very stiff at the draft when he announced they steelers pick but despite that and despite the fact that he's already been moved to the reserve physically unable to perform list which ends is twenty eight thousand season ryan cheesier is not giving up on the idea that he could return to football here's what he said during his presser james to come back and play football you know been working till every single day so i have that back in my mind everything everything we have and stay positive every day so i'm just trying to i know this is a guy that his whole life was built upon playing football playing professional football but i have say it's like i admire him but also i can't i can't even imagine the how scary would be the idea of going back on it football field after what happened so best of luck to him this tells me that his doctors have told him it's possible or have not said hey it's not possible for you to get back out there and there's no way for this to happen again unless you can visualize it yourself so i i loved it he's still has it in his mind to go back a lot of progress i mean that's that's what strikes me as they you know in these cases usually the first few months or so so crucial and he's made a lot of progress in those few months i mean you can see it when he's walking up to the press conference and we don't know him but a lot of people around him no personally very well say we don't doubt him so i mean i think west you're exactly right if he knew it was impossible he wouldn't say these things so many humans go through life growing.

"Of our time together yawn the business you had to make the rules yeah okay i you and i've asked they disagree on that because in this case i don't think it's about a rule like show up for practice in the morning this is a very nuanced and complex discussion about how do we alleviate the pain that our employees and teammates and and players are going through in an age when our sport is being criticized left and right for things that are much more difficult to fix right you're changing all of the rules of the game in order to help along with stuff like c t e ben ryan shazier injuries and potential life changing injuries and you're you're you're willing to change rules for that which i agree with and think is necessary but also think about the ways in which the everyday aches and pains and lifelong challenges that are faced by these players could be alleviated by something as simple as saying this is no longer priority when we test they don't test for h g h right they've they've already decided that they're going to pick their battles when it comes to perform enhancers easier but easier to pick your battles on new drugs than to change your existing battles in the in the in the quarter perception right and that's part of that gets the fans and so we'll get to that next is it the reaction of fans that's keeping marijuana from being used medicinally in the nfl are they worried about the fingerwagging fans who have not evolved where a lot of others have on the issue of medical marijuana and is it worth it then to restrict what their players from it if it's for the sake of fans we'll get your opinions eight say espn eight seven to nine three seven seven six spain and fitz on espn radio spain and fits what exactly is the nfl thinking when they decide to continue not wanting to advance discussions on medical marijuana for its players.
