Nagy benches Justin Field for Andy Dalton

"And another team and their actions. That aren't making a whole lot of sense now. Are the chicago bears and head coach matt nagy because this week matt nagy came out and obviously he's in a win or else win or lose your job type of situation in chicago but nagy came out and essentially committed to andy dalton as a starting quarterback this week which is just bonkers especially when in the nfl draft. You traded a future first round. Pick to go up and take justin fields out of ohio state number eleven overall justin field as your future. Even if matt nagy and gm ryan pace. Aren't there certainly hoping that justin fields shows enough. This year this season not just to save their jobs but to position the bears to go back to the again and maybe win a playoff game and show that there can be some promise with this quarterback in that franchise and i think the justin fields has that ability. I think that when you watch him he can make all the throws. He's won a lot of games at ohio state. He's not your typical state quarterback he committed to penn state transferred to d- committed to penn state rather went to georgia faced a lot of adversity in georgia overcame at ohio state. One big games has all the arm strength. has all the accuracy can throw on. The run is mobile. And you're gonna put him on the bench holding a clipboard behind. Andy dalton

"To give Ryan pace credit for going and getting the guy who I think the Chicago fan base is going to be jazzed about Tierney. Forget about Dodgers Padres being the best rivalry in baseball. It is the best rivalry in sports right now, so this is risky for the 40 Niners. Big time You move up that much to get a kid that might not make it that could cost you your job. If you're John Lynch or Kyle Shanahan did trailing Chou's up slinging daggers then that would present may be an issue for Jimmy for the night. Enters that. We just reinforced the notion that they picked the right guy to nations. Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team. They gotta trade him. They can't trade him. There's too much money unless they restructure him in training. They're Tiki and Tierney, honey, our number to our number two here on the show. What's good? Hopefully everybody's doing well Tuesday. We're on the country, CBS Sports Radio We are Tiki and Tierney. And we're company from our studios here. The Rocket Morgan studio when you need an expert to help navigate the home loan process, Rocket can big hour coming up. T D hold the favor. Terrell Davis Broncos running back. Former rumor running back obviously. On the quarterback situation out there for his former team. Just how aggressive that package that they are reportedly putting together for Rogers Post June one when it's more palatable financially. Is that gonna happen? Lakers get a big win. We'll do that. Next segment. Got a big hour coming up, Take you ready to roll? I'm interested to see what Tt's take is on Teddy Bridgewater and drew locks competition for the starting job because the last we heard they're going to split 50 50. Rep. So it's really anybody. It's anybody's job, but nobody you're getting excited about, but it's anybody's job. But when you start 50 50 and I agree nobody to get excited about, But when you start 50 50 doesn't the guy who goes second, even though theoretically, still getting this set that the same percentage doesn't the guy not just perceptually, but Eventually, the guys who were running the routes are gonna have to get a blow. Which means the Tuesday going in and probably going into the back end of the guy who gets the 50% the 2nd 50%. I gotta tell you, it's a quarterback competition like that s so hard. Just like perception, like in your mind Like, Who's the starter? Like who? Like who? My rooting for things like, you know, I was a player. He has a player like as a teammate. It's like who do I actually want to win this job? It's really difficult, so I don't like teams that have quarterback issues. Quarterback controversy because something always gets. I'm gonna put eye out of police or perceptually. It's just off and all of a sudden there's there's debate happening. In the locker room. And then the coach makes a decision and it might not be in line. What the players what they get It just it gets a little really dicey when there's a quarterback issued controversially going on with any team, you know, I feel like the eighties and nineties. They were just they were quarterback battles all the time. You feel like it's almost been self policed out of the game. That's right, right, And he sort of avoid it because they won't cause they know that that's going to happen. You get you get it divided locker room, and it's like, all right. Well, if you just want to put this guy in type of thing, and then that that doesn't serve anybody guys talk about it freely. I would imagine, you know, yeah, of course, especially if it's bad, and it's obvious as we've seen many times over the last few years. Got you all right, take inbounds out of bounds. "I just found playing the northwestern Damon and wasn't all that impressed. I'm not impressed by a lot of players. Expressing excitement. I mean, of course, they could do that. But my bigger concern is that Ryan Pace, I think is the biggest problem for the Paris is now going to be stuck with us for the next couple of years, because at the end of this year, they're going to say The justice field systems more time to development or how he plays to patrol the judge Ryan Pace. And even if the Bears are terrible this year, they want to get rid of Ryan. Pace. No good. Jim Canada is gonna want to come in. We had a first Huh? We got disconnected there. Well, okay, So you have to understand that even before the pick of Justin Fields yesterday, Ryan Pace and magnetic you probably is gonna be here for another year at the minimum, but mostly, maybe two or three years. Absolutely, just basically base everything that you mean when? When George says all the time. Ryan and Matt are our football. Guys. That means the day they weren't going anywhere anyway. Despite feels being drafted No. One. I didn't hear anyone saying either one of George or Ted say, well for not a playoff team next year. They're out the door, they said. We need to see improvement. Well, that's a pretty broad thing to define. Improvement right. Eight. Nate last year backed into the playoffs, so you go. You know, you have a plus one or two in the win column this year That's improvement. They were going anywhere. So the fact that they were here You had a root for them to do the best job possible yesterday and for them to be allowed to make the big move yesterday, and they were they did, and they were allowed to do the best job Yesterday. We knew the issues with the bears with their finances. We know the issues on the offensive line. We know the issues of a lot of people not being in the same camp of Ryan Pace and mad, Maggie. I totally good. All that Brian gets all that. But the bottom line is is that that does not cloud what the Bears did in the draft. Yesterday..

"He should have stayed at Georgia. He should have stayed there and that guaranteeing a national championship. Anything like that, But he I thought at the time he's better than from. He goes Ohio State and pays dividends for them, And now he's in this position as a Chicago bear for us to watch him that it is. It's just great because usually the Bears would fumble this. They didn't fumble this yesterday. No, they didn't fumble that they got the first part right? And, you know, we all know the history of Ohio State quarterbacks. But the kid's a winner, and it said, I'd much rather him come from a blue blood program and be the leader of that team. You're well down the path to franchise quarterback When you get a town like this, so you know, it's it's great that they're Ryan talked about Matt and laser and flip the overnight crew on K. J Z. But you know, it's it's going to be up to those guys get the most out of them. And it's almost like the trip riskier. It didn't happen. He said. Yeah, talkto mad about the blueprint back in Kansas City, you know now how they developed out. Smith was in the room with Patrick Mahomes. Well, here's hoping that it all plays out that way here. So Ryan Pace makes his movie gets his guy Justin Fields, couple of things from Ryan Pace, and when I get to your phone calls as well, 312332, ESPN 3323776. They'll just sit back and listen to Brian and I We want to hear your thoughts. Well, we want your emotion how you felt when you heard that the Bears went up in the draft and the selection of Justin Fields. Just sit back and just we want you as a bears fan. This is your day, because this is a special day for the Chicago Bears for a number of reasons, which will get too but later on, But the number one reason is that the bears that Justin Fields yesterday so but we'll talk about some of the other things that the other dominoes that fall that fell yesterday regarding the NFC North and the Bears nonetheless. Ryan Pace, the general manager, talking about the attributes that feels has for the Bears offense. Yeah, I feel like you know, we talked about him for for a long time. Now, you know, Matt has a good relationship with Ryan Day. As well. But it's just Adam. It's just that the combination of factors that he has, you know, it's the It's the arm talent. Um it Z accuracy. It's the athleticism when you see a guy with that kind of arm talent with that kind of quarterback makeup that he has with that kind of work ethic that's played in really big games and really big moments and performed in big moments. That's extremely tough now. Is that the Michigan game a couple years ago when he came back in from a knee and we know about the ribs and the hip, and I mean this guy's toughness on a scale of 1 to 10 and 11. And you just love that about owing them by the way, he runs a 444. So you throw that all of them together, and it just It just feels good. You know, Brian, that pit could've been Mack Jones. And actually, when I look at the way, the draft film I'm happy for Matt Jones that he's with the New England Patriots. It works out well, Bella check and saving our best.

"We thought it was gonna be maximum three. At least I did for the longest time. And now I wonder if this is Sam says there's a great fit for any quarterback, but I do wonder if the Patriots and Matt Jones, we want these conversations. We haven't fired 16 years by. Whoa. How did we let that happen like this? This feel sort of similar to what we saw. You know, a lesser degree, perhaps, of what? We saw a comrade for two days. Tom Brady is 1/6 round pick. That's the entire league with it on him For six rounds. This is only this is number 15. Overall. Here is Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, and I was wondering about the Bears because It's become a cottage industry to crush Ryan Pace and Matt Naggy and their quarterback decision making and the Bears constantly flailing to get a QB. And last night they were widely lauded for being aggressive and going to get Justin Fields at number 11. Did you think that was a smart and savvy move by the Bears? Yes. So I I love it. I love it on the surface. I love it for my long tortured bears friends who now have something to cling onto. Besides a tweet from the organization that said, you know, six weeks ago that Andy Dondre T V one because that's You know, That's not how you get the same base excited. Here's my only concern. Th so you're taking Justin Fields and you, Mitch Ryan Pace and the man Nicky have been up against it for a while, and let's be honest if they start slow. There's gonna be some conversations early in the year, but those guys getting fired and that's the reality of it. Mr. Whiskey didn't work out. And so any dog makes sense to start the season. He's not the long term solution. But what if we're two games into the thing and 2021 the Bears or bears and it up and he doesn't looks terrible argues, gonna throw Justin fields out there before he's ready, and we three And sort of have a repeat of the Mr Biscuit situation. I'm not saying just because Mr Basically, I think he has a chance to really, really good. I just hope that he's not rushing to the field. As a means of two guys trying to save your jobs. I don't know if that's gonna happen, but they're in a bad situation and that they have to win. Now. Does Justin feels buy them a little more time? Maybe it's not gonna buy them an extra year. I feel like maybe by special weeks. Was que separates you back to my original point. They're going to try to get him out there sooner or later, what is not necessarily in the best interest of the order vision. Lot of people said that the Raiders as you alluded to, with Alex Leatherwood at number 17, where the big losers last night a confusing decision. Did you also think that confusing is the Best way to put it and on some level this feels like the Cleveland burial pick a few years ago when Mike Maddock just got their GM and, of course, John Gruden's coach, because he felt over drafted and to this point clearly failed a first round talent who was over drafted inside the top five outs, Leatherwood. I had a day to grade on him, and I talked to folks around the league that agreed with that. But look, we see this all the time about quarterbacks. It only takes one teeth. They need help with the offensive line because much crazy things that Jon Gruden did. Over the course of the off season that said, they've literally picked anyone on defense and made that defense better. And here's how I come out of the first round. You look at the piggy say OK, this team better now than they were. Before Thursday, and the Raiders or not, they they're not. They drafted Alex Lowe. What you could help. But there it's not a substantial upgrade, which is what you need in this first round picks. So puzzling is is where I would put this. Would say puzzling would describe both the Steelers and the Jaguars decisions to take running backs in the first round as well. Both nausea Harris and Travis Ctn might end up being very good backs. The Steelers had a lot of needs, especially all offensive line and the Jaguars, the worst team in football. Out of those two did either nausea or ET en makes sense in your mind. Yeah. So not the nausea, hair smoothed by God, and they they didn't signal but it had been pretty clear for a while that they were They like nausea. And that could be a possibility there. 24. There were some conversation. Maybe that Shit. Have they been in? 18 would have thought about that as well. But your idea that the office of line is terrible. They need help with cornerbacks and help it edge rusher s O. They had playing these quarterback. We just talk about what if Mack Jones was there? I think that you think about that. Um, but We're not sure Harris is drawing comparisons, lovey, Um Belle and the Louisville. We always make these ConStor and draft time. But if it's anything close to that, that will help and you can come back and a two and a three and you can find offensive line help, But you're not gonna find it. Not your hair. That's probably thinking there. Jaguars moves a little more That concerning, But look, this is Urban Meyer's first year, you know, they kind of picks. You have to use every single one wisely after, By the way, having a ton of free agency kind of money created. See that you didn't go out there and crush it on. This team has to win. I feel like six or seven wins is doable next year if you hit on everything, and and and by the way in the 17 game season, and then after that, you got to start going to playoffs. So try. You know, we got trade Trevor Laurence done and done, but I think 18 feels like he was over, attracted by a seven or eight picks when they would've been back on the clock and again offensive lines, even tow line safety cornerback those wrong just well, linebacker. So I thought slightly ever drafted love the player. Just question the pick. Would you think about the Panthers going with JC Horn? There was a lot of thought that they should go offensive line as well. Help out, Sam Darnel, help out Christian McCaffrey. Instead, they went with horn your thoughts on that decision. Yeah, No, I love love just you horn. In fact, I had him as the first people to play off the board..

"Hit us up on Twitter and on instagram and capture a hood. We'll hear from Mike 10 and bomb who's been in the war rooms for the NFL draft. We'll hear from him coming up at 9 35 here on ESPN, 1000 and Brian an opportunity here for the Bears to try to get it right. And what that means is To be able to lock in on a quarterback that can be part of the future. Now, here's the thing we talked about trying to get a quarterback every year doesn't work out that way. The Bears could get a quarterback here in this draft. What That quarterback to me is not about today, but it's about the future. We know that Nick Foles and Andy Dalton are not necessarily about the future, not even about the president. Quite frankly, but they're on the roster. But you gotta have someone in place that you could believe in that you can mold and shape. That way. You're in a good position that you have to look for a quarterback all the time. Yeah. And yet there are some bears fans out there hoping they don't Get a quarterback because they want Ryan Pace fired after losing year, so they just want may be safe so that the covered isn't completely empty for the next GM and head coach coming in here. Again. I can't. I can't be that guy. I gotta root for these two to get it right tonight and get the quarterback and Well, it's tonight or not. I do believe Dan Wieder is correct that you're going to get you're gonna get a quarterback in one of these rounds, and maybe it's not going to excite anybody. If it's not a first round pick But you have to, You know, Ryan paces, talked about drafting a quarterback and perfect world every year, and he's failed to do so other than the failed quarterback, and Mitch travesty So we want to get your thoughts about what do you think the Bears are going to do? Will they get it? Right? 312332? ESPN is our phone number. You and I get to talk to Dan Orlovsky yesterday and ultimately you talk about the fans, right, Brian? So the question that was posed is why should we trust the bears to be able to get this right trying to get the bears in the right direction? You should it You shouldn't. But at the end of the day they're there in those roles. At the end of the day. They're the guys that are going to be making these selections. Okay, so whether they have a high level of trust or not, Means nothing. At the end of the day. These guys are on the positions where they're going to make the selection and as a bear span, you have to hope for two things, one that they take one in two. That they can develop one finally, but they can develop one finally, and that's going to be a big Got a piece of this puzzle. I don't believe that, mister Frisky was this guy that I have said this That wasn't talented enough to go be a player in the NFL that spot. I don't believe that I think that Chicago never attacked his long Never attacked his weakness. I've been on with cap For three years now talking about this, and there were moments when, like, Okay, you get past it. That's what the challenge if they take a quarterback is going to be well, Matt, Maggie and Ryan Pace Sit there and go. We get attacked These flaws. We're gonna have a very short period of time to do it right, very short period of time to do it. But if they take one of those guys that has super talent. Also a variance of weakness, that variance of law. They're gonna have to make sure that they identify it and then figure out a way to minimize it, especially if they're going to play them early on. Ryan. You feel like the bears gonna go up here in the first round and get the quarterback? Or at least one the quarterbacks that they want, right? Yeah, And I couldn't have agreed with Dan. More than what he just said you. You've gotta be rooting that they get it right. And and they get the home run quarterback here, whether whether his throat out there and played the first nap of the season, I wouldn't mind that at all. I find that more entertaining than your Vandy Dalton. But more likely they'll draft a guy. They'll jump up and get the guy they wanted The guy left of the top five and they'll tell him TOC, sit back for a year and observe and take snaps and we'll see you in 2022. I believe that the Bears are not going to have a quarterback in the first round, unless it's someone that falls to the mid 20. I don't think they're going to try, but we've heard a lot of the effort, right. You know, there's a difference between No activity in accomplishment. I think that Ryan Pace is on the phone trying to get up there. But it just some of these teams were just trying to do the math and take a look at team needs. Brian and I just I just look at it is like the lines will not deal with the Bears in division. If they do, they're dumb. Yeah, I agree with you can make a case for either team wanting to deal in the perfect world because someone's gonna lose that deal. Have to live with it in the division. So I think that I think the Bears will eventually draft a quarterback. It may not be who they want, but you're gonna have to because you got to think about the future. That's just that's just doing due diligence and understanding the game. And so when I look out, it's not gonna be first round look at second round quarterbacks. And so some of the best second round quarterbacks that we've seen the league without bread far was a second round quarterback on even when he first came out is you remember the NFL films Mike Holmgren wanted, you know, want to kill him? Wasn't Yeah, that was early. Yeah, there was remember the film. Where is like home? We want to get him out of like, No, no. I mean, I know it's just how many interceptions Heathrow in the first year crazy when what they I mean, they traded to get him from Atlanta, right where he was doing nothing right? And but he came up there and he more likely than not was gonna throw to the team wearing the other uniform. Drew Brees was a second round quarterback. So is Derrick Karr. Needed very still out on Derek are just so far. Ah Boomer science and was second round quarterback. There are some some diamonds there and, by the way, the aforementioned Andy Dalton, also the second round quarterback with the Bangles. So there's some that are good and some, you know, and not so good. Also in the third round, you take a look at that as well. If you're looking for a quarterback to the third round, the list is thin. Brian when it comes to their around quarterbacks, um you remember Bobby Layne, member and 48 Was that like to cover him? Yeah. Yeah, And you know you just because this league is so offensive centric and every rule changes about points and get more points on the board. Last year, the NFL sent out a memo to the referees and officials which really wasn't well publicized, remember? Yeah, who did a huge story on it?.

"You saw something. I did not seem to have had a recap of last night's Cub Braves game on Twitter. Don't be misleading. I didn't watch it. It looked dark, so I don't know if the birds make noise when the sun goes down, But he was standing there in front of the pool, giving us letting everyone know I made some noise. When I was watching Zach Davies yesterday. It's something so that that mean that's our guy. Now, here's the thing. Two caps. Credit. Yes, The Bears are in need of help in the secondary for sure, But you just heard from Mel. And by the way, I don't know if jail water will be there, 20. But if he is my God, there's a difference maker there at wide receiver. So what Mel said is right. You need a you need to get better. The offensive line. You need to get better at the secondary. At some point. You need a wide receiver, someone on the outside of Robinson. Or and or money, you need to find a quarterback. You need a safety, So there's some holes to fill, so caps not wrong. But just then a 20 just don't do that. No, it's either offensive line a quarterback first and foremost, and then you're right. You can fill in another three or four positions, including cornerback Can you imagine? Have to wait till Monday because he's off this week. But can you imagine if on Monday Cap comes in, and the Bears have Jalen Waddle on the board and Ryan Pace Phillips, Lex Greg Newsome kept will lose his mind. He will absolutely lose his mind. If the Bears have an opportunity that's mentioned like we shouldn't gloss over the fact that kept did co host a radio show with Waddell for 10 years. Yes, like it was right there for him. It's a radio bit. It's a mock draft. Nobody's taking this that seriously and kept goes and selects Greg Newsome with Waddle on the board. What is happening? Well, that says a lot about how he feels about Waddle. How do you not take Tom Wattles kid in that spot? I don't know. I'm just I'm just telling you the same rhythm, everything else. How do you not take Tom's kid there? I will say this if they do select new somewhere all screwed because we will never never hear the end of it. Yeah, I was right. Yeah, but the guy sucks in that spot. What? Yeah. Keiper. No, I know more than Keiper telling you to if pay selected Newsome instead of Waddle cap would come in and rip him the next day. Well, Mondays he's off. Hey, find a way to get to the communication, That's for sure. The Bears are in horrible financial position going into the season. They have the 20th pick in the draft. And Andy Dalton is their quarterback. Do you expect to be bad? Do you expect the Bears to be bad this season? Do you expect them to be bad on purpose it? Do they feel that when you look at this season It's gonna be a lost cause. Anyway, Brian, I will take a look at what the Bears have for the draft what they could be looking at. "The Bears are trying to rebuild build. Take the next step from eight. Nate. Losing in the first round of the playoffs in the middle ground, which we know is My partner appropriately named it like you're in hell. You got not a good enough pick that really get the impact player you want, but you're not often. So you don't get the Ability either way to enjoy the winds or to enjoy a high draft pick like a Jacksonville or a jets or somebody like that. So the question is 3123323776. My partner, Jonathan, if I said to you, Oh, boy, Ryan Pace is about to make a deal for ex player. Whatever it is like he did with Khalil back or quarterback or he's going to go get the best wide receiver or the best. This He's trading future draft capital, not just this year's pick. He's trading into the future. He was the owner allow him to do that. Yes, I do. Because of the infrastructure that the Bears air in the Bears are the mom and pop shop cap. And so this is where it is. You can't fight City hall in this regard. If Ryan if George McCaskey and Ted Phillips don't understand that they're behind the times as an organization and that have someone look over the organization as a president, football operations, not just glad handing the sponsors. I mean someone who understands football that could be able work step in step with the general manager and the head coach. What we heard of the zoom call after the season was, is that Ryan Pace and mad Magyar football guys, and so because of how the Bears air run? Yes, it is on Ryan Pace, no matter what to try to turn this thing around now, if it's Meyer ization, and if it's your organization, it's totally different. Because it's not the moment Pop shop on the corner. Say Oh, well, Those are football guys. And 10 is our financial guy that I'm just overseeing it as the as the owner. It doesn't work that way. You could have more people in the room, more ideas. And this is what the Bears don't do. So, yes, Pace have full autonomy and what to do with the organization until you fired They're going to be others, and I can guarantee you that one of them is the co host of the water and Sylvie show and didn't play in the NFL, so you can differentiate them. I don't know how Tommy feels on it. But Sylvie if I had to back Sylvie would say Absolutely not. You're not letting Ryan pace trade two number ones in a two and it's 2022 this 2023 again. I haven't asked me that question. But I would love to know his Opinion. And everyone else's opinion because I'm with you, honey, if you brought him back as your general manager, and you said That you were gonna let him make all of the decisions and you're going to let him Fix the team as he deems appropriate. Then you have to allow him to do his job to the best of his ability. And at the end of that. You say OK? It didn't work, Ryan. We appreciate it, but it didn't work. What would it matter our football guys? As you just said What? Why don't you just want to ask Sylvie? What do you mean? You haven't asked him. Just ask him. I'm going to. I'm going to tell him later and asked him. No. Ask him right now. It's 704. Now he's not just ask him right now. Hey, Sylvie, What do you do? Do you let Brian do whatever he thinks is best or no. I'm not letting him mortgage my future to try and save his skin. I guarantee you there's a lot of fans out there and we'll put that up as a poll question. Should Ryan be able to do whatever he and Matt think and agree is best for the team. Even If it goes beyond the 2021 draft 3123 376 high cap H starts at the top. Goodbye. See, But you won't ask you to do is ask you. Thanks, Sylvie. Well again, you just got to do is asking me to give you the answer. And so here's the thing that I look at cap is that again. It makes no sense on the surface to allow Ryan Paste even come back this upcoming off season to make a choice for the Bears. But it was very clear in the zoom call after the season that George McCaskey As well as Ted Phillips feel strong and confident in those two in pace and Maggie and so I mean to me, it makes no sense. See, Here's the thing. If you're trying to get an upper echelon quarterback, you have to give up something to get something, and so you have a couple of choices. You can roll the dice and mortgage the future thinking that your clothes and by the way, the bears are not close. But you can mortgage the future thinking that you're close or you just try to muddle through this season. See what happens to be maybe the second best team in the NFC North Sea again. Ah, good set of eyes can look at this organization and say No. We get golden golden back on defense. And if the Bears can be able to rush the passer, and if the secondary is gonna be good, and if the offensive line's gonna protect whoever quarterback and if we have a weapon to replace Robinson too many ifs If you have fewer ifs that I can roll the dice and say, yes, you can mortgage the future to find the quarterback that you want. But one quarterback. Will not cure the ills for this football team. Look at what we just went through We are we going to forget what we just saw him. Remember the beginning the season cap. We were fighting people off at the beginning. Like the 1st 45 games this season, People said. That's not real. There's not really good they back to win it way into those winds, and I kept saying Every win is important..

"But Hood row will get to the power rankings in just a second. But a story out by Mike K. This morning from new Jersey dot com that is their big newspaper in that area near Philly. Along with the Enquirer. Here's what he just published. Carson Wentz, his time with the Eagles is nearing its end a person with knowledge of his trademark, it told New Jersey advanced media. On Monday. I think that ship has sailed. I expect him to go. It was either last night or today, according to the person that belief are on the league is the trademark. It will eventually come down to the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts of third undisclosed team is said to be in the mix. But the source also told us the bears and culture in the driver's seat and a deal is closed. While close While there is a sense of GM Howie Roseman is trying to drive up the market, the person told us Colts GM Chris Ballard and bears GM Ryan Pace have both remained disciplined during negotiations. He has familiarity with both coaching staffs and has worked under Bears quarterback coach John de Filipo when he had his best success. Discipline, meaning that they're not going to give the farm up for once that that that means I think that's what that means. Hey, said the Bears a de Filipo could offer wants a clean slate. While the Bears still have former Superwoman BP Nick Foles on their roster falls could be part of the went to deal and service, a backup or competition for second year quarterback Jalen Hurts. The eagle still are demanding significant compensation while the coats colts won't hand Eagles two first round picks. Perhaps the Eagles have been able to persuade the Colts depart with number 21 overall along with added on assets in return. For Wentz, the Bears offer could be comparable with the 20th overall pick. There you go. We'll see. All right, Uh, the power rankings. Danny printed these out this morning and we played our fun little game. Of course of guessing where the Bears are These. I said the bear. Daddy, What did I say? 22nd? I think you were 20th 20th. They are actually 24th. The Chicago Bears. Hoody are 24th on the power ranking. Now, here's what they say The Bears are in a precarious position without a franchise quarterback on the roster. General manager Ryan Pace and head coach met Maggie have been tasked with solving shot. Chicago Don't throw up 70 Year quarterback conundrum That's like his Impotent as the Cubs were The Bears are expected to exhaust every quarterback avenue in the coming weeks and months. The pressure on the duel is enormous. If Payson Nagy failed to properly address the issue, the Bears are likely headed towards large scale changes. 2022 written by our friend Jeffrey Dickerson. This is a rush to save my job. If I'm Ryan pace enough, I met Maggie. We gotta get this right is used as you said a couple weeks ago, the most important off season for the Bears in a long time as far as trying to solidify the quarterback position. If you don't get this right, you are fired again. You'll be fired. You'll be hired somewhere down the line doing something. It's not like it's the end, but it's just you just don't want to start over. If you're the bears and just start over meaning having a quarterback in place in that quarterback doesn't work out. You know so and people will listen to this, captain. They'll say, Well, why are you giving the power rankings? Why does that matter? Well, It just talks about the hierarchy of the NFL as far as where the Bears are, because worse than the Bears are the Giants, the Eagles, the Bangles, the Broncos, the Jets, the Lions, the Jaguars and the Texans on this list in front of us here, So the reason why we give you this list is because we just want to be able to illustrate for you where the Bears are, even though there are eight Nate, where are they Trending and so out of all these teams They're 24th number 24. The teams you mentioned that are behind them. Look, Houston's Dumpster fire right dumps their fire. But Denver they thought Drew lock might be their quarterback. The Jets. They thought Sam Darnel might be their quarterback. The Lions now think Jared Goff. Is their quarterback. Jacksonville's 31st. I'll tell you that all the teams behind the Chicago Bears and that as you mentioned Giants, Eagles, Bangles, Broncos Jets, Lions Jags Texans The Jacksonville Jaguars, who met one and 15 might be in the most enviable position. If you're a fan of that team cap space, everybody is just through the roof with excitement that urban Meyer's there and Trevor Laurence is rolling it. I love a lot of that, except for the Urban Meyer part. I just need to know if urban Mars healthy. I'm not trying to make a joke here. I'm just saying like it's important for him to stay healthy. If Jacksonville goes in the wrong direction, or some happens, will urban be triggered from a health standpoint? Right, So that's a big deal, his family said. Don't go back to coaching. And he took his time away from it. Use that Fox for a while, but he's he has really dropped into a great situation. If you are going to go to the NFL this a great situation for you to turn our franchise around. And so I think that Jacksonville's training the right direction. You know what I think the Giants are trending in the right direction to cap I like what they did the end of the season. If if Daniel Jones is truly a franchise quarterback, like if you were the Giants, and they're picking high in the draft. They have cap space, and they've got a young quarterback in Daniel Jones. If the Texans are forced to trade the Sean and there's No. You know, Jimmie Johnson has said if I was running the Texans He would not play anywhere else. He'd either be on my team or he wouldn't play and I'd be at his door. Jimmy's quote was, I'd walk up to his door and fly to wherever he is. Knock on the door with two beers in my hand, Let's talk. And if he closed the door in my face, I go get two Cold beers the next day, and I would show up again. And if he got on a plane and flew somewhere else, I get out of plane and fly where he is Then two more beers. And I would keep knocking on that door until he had agreed to talk to me. And then we'd work it out. Stocking May your stocking may right. And why? And why is there a bunny in my pot on that kitchen? Exactly what was just on by the way the other day. "Moved in the Spurs favor by the way. So now it's nuggets by four coincidence. I mean, see Nuggets or 4.5 Point favorite. I say I'm taking the Spurs. The line moves a half a point. In the directions. Spurs. Clearly it is mean can be nothing else. Now it's a Spurs plus four. I still like it at sport of Spurs, plus for it just for the record. Oh, only if only we all had that level of impact if I had that level of impact Maybe. Something else. Steve with line of the day. Think Giselle knows Brady's body. Well, hi. Oh, Well, then Giselle is going to tell Brady when it's time to be done. It's a good line. Good job, Steve. From the 79. Nobody has brought it up, but the Chicago bears they're going to end up with Sean wants in. Interesting theory. I thought about Chicago. What would Chicago give up? Because I I get the idea behind this here. Right? Ryan Pace makes up for his grave mistake. By going and getting to Shawn Watson. I would love to see to Shawn Watson and bears uniform. For the record. I think that would be awesome. Why He's not reportedly on their on their not on his list. They're Ah! This is not on his list. Uh, but maybe that could change. Okay, So let's say that Shawn Watson does think that Chicago is a place he would like to go. They don't have a quarterback they can offer. Houston's not taking Nick Foles or Mitchell Travis Key. The Chicago Bears also have the 20th pick. Now could they mortgage their entire lives? Can they give up five first round picture? But I think it's a great story. I mean, here's the Here's the alternative thing. Where would you like to see two? Shaun wants and go. Now that we've whittled down the list of teams that actually have Ah, shot at him. Puncher's chance. At landing him. Let's throw that out the window and let's bring in just who you would like to see him with. Professionally. I like him to be in Denver. I would Imagine those Broncos Chiefs weeks be fantastic. Um I'm saying Keep your phantom out of it. If your team cannot land to Shawn wants in. Or does not. Where would you like to see him? Go. Put the Bears right at the top of the list. I think the bears would be great. I think the Niners is really interesting. Um Mm. But where would he? Be the most interesting. Atlanta. I'll be fun. Um Alice. Think the Cowboys get brought up to mine. At least they would have a reason to be brought up now because they do a lot of winning. But I think biases and geography aside, I I think him on the Broncos is really interesting. I've seen some NFL players tweet about that Marlon Humphrey tweeted out. That the other day. Said to Shawn wants on the Broncos would be nice. Like nice. I think you would like to see to Shawn Watson either. Go. To a franchise like the Bears because of the Him going to the Bears will be fun because One. It's a It's a great football town. It's a franchise has been starving for quarterback for as long as I can remember. The The story line of Ryan Pace, making up for his mistake, but only giving up how many first round picks In order to rectify that mistake. How many first round picks? How many picks he gave up to make the mistake and then how many picks he would have to give up to rectify the mistake? Dad. Be fun, But then it's not that I'd like to see him. With a lot of weapons around him. Him in DeAndre. Hopkins was fun, and not many other teams have somebody that you could say is is to Sean addition, DeAndre Hopkins like Think Atlanta as a couple of guys like that. Maybe not as good. Crime. Julio Jones. Was DeAndre Hopkins. Um Calvin release really good. So I think him in Atlanta would be fun. Dallas. No. No one wants that Dallas Unless you're Cowboys fan. Nobody wants to see him in Dallas. Um I mean, I like to a lot, Esso. I went into, um And they're not allow weapons in Miami. So I'd like to see the Dolphins stick it out with tour, but I understand why they would be interested in to some Watson. I understand why a lot of teams will be.

"Way had Adam Schefter on earlier today. Schefter told us that The Bears have a shot here that they have. Not that I asked him directly said people have called in and said Why would he want to come here? Why would you want to come here after what Ryan Pace did not do with him? He did not give him an interview. He did not give him dinner. He did not give him a personal workout and Adam Schefter told us it's not Houston. He would not veto that trade he is open to wear is being dealt, and he said that there are some other cities and he used a handful of cities. The way teams or run anyone give out names to him, maybe saying no to, but he did not give that with the Bears. So that answered me. One question Now I admit with what Denny says, and what others say? The Bears don't have nearly what Several other teams have to give up. But if he's willing to accept this offer And the Bears could somehow get capital. They may have a shot. But as of now, when you lead with the 20th pick in the NFL draft as your big prize to the Texans, that's a nonstarter. In my opinion, that's where I would be worried. It's less now about whether or not to Sean watching is coming here wants to come here. Maura about Hey, how do you get a package Where you get the taxes to converse with you? Yeah. Yeah, it's it's getting into the conversation and not letting it go. I dont dish on Watson's probably not coming to the bears. There's no doubt about it, but I refused to let You know, I refuse to allow the bears. They're they're comfortable, itty and collaboration that they keep talking about between Ryan Pace and mad Nagy just to sit there and and continue collaborating without collaborating and an idea. You get one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. And, you know, to my mind. I just I need the guy to do his job. If this is the last push If this is the last go for Payson, Meggie, then I need Ryan Pace to go do his job make the offer. And then when Nicholas Aereo or Cal McNair, whoever it is, it's going to give the kibosh to the thing says now you don't have enough. Why didn't you Remember that I'm here with the 20th pick in the draft or whatever he can trade up to. I'm here with the player or two or a contractor to or a third rounder here or whatever, and I can help sweeten whatever deal you're into. With the Dolphins sweetened whatever deal you're into with the Niners or whomever. Because I refuse to be left standing. If I'm Ryan pace, just with whatever spinoff happens from the quarterback carousel. I would rather help choose my guy. Then just be left with whatever drippings or at the end of this Italian beef, you know, they called sloppy seconds. Yes. I don't want that. I don't want that. I want to pick. I want that. I want the prime stuff I want at least what I know I can win with And if I'm wrong I'm wrong, and I was losing the job anyway. Let's play this for you. Black has it. It's Adam Schefter making a case with the bears being involved in this. Well, why would he come to Charlotte, Chicago. Again well, which get past little personal slights or overlooks. What if in Chicago? Tradition laden franchise. Great City. Great fans. Strong defense. Um People who committed to him. I mean, while you come to me because I could give you an argument as to why he would come to any city, including Chicago. So Again. I think there are very few places. That Should be and would be and could be ruled out. Again. I think the first thing here I really think this is Is your franchise. Decent Texans know. Okay, then let's go from there now. Again. I think there are probably a handful of places that Would not interest him for various reasons. Business reasons, personal reasons. Um him watching the way the league operates. Right? Don't have any reason to believe that Chicago is one of those franchises. And so Why would the bear's not begin? Why would you not be interested? Again. I don't think that he's going to say, Oh, boy, they overlooked me. They didn't talk to me when I was drafted, and I am eliminating a world class city because that I just don't I don't see that Now again. I'm not telling you that he's more likely to wind up in Chicago. Then. Somewhere else. But I don't cross the bears off the list. I don't eliminate them at all. There you go, and that that's all we're saying. One part of the equation is him vetoing the bears. We've got many of those. He's not going to come here. He just told you that there's no reason to believe that he would not want to come here. So now you have to go to the table and you have to figure out how to get the Texans attention above the rest with the other teams, and I'm telling you, there's not a great chance there. Connor just told you that, too. That's not happening. I guess the next piece of conversation that I think we're all gonna have to have at some point is what now that Ryan paces missed out on Watson twice, right? Because if ever if you if you're sitting here is a Bears fan, and you're screaming at us, because you don't think there's a chance that your franchise lands to Shawn Watson. There's a reason for that, too. And it's not gonna be because Ryan Pace didn't call because he did. Couldn't range himself. That kind of trade that Nets, a 25 year old franchise quarterback, one of the elite in the NFL. It's gonna be answered for two At least my opinion. It does. Well, yeah, of course. Yeah. All right. Let's talk to Wilburn about it. He's been very critical of Ryan Pace. We will talk to Michael coming up in two short minutes. You're.

"Here's a good tweet singing the song for the Bears. It's from dog Hawk down. I'm not Twitter. Houston gave up 50 sacks The Bears gave up 36 with falls the statue for several games. Houston's defense gave up 430 yards and 29 points a game. Lots and accounted for 30% of Houston's rushing yards and TDs. The bears of a better deal better old line in a legit running game. So there's someone who is talking about the bears talking up the Bears. 3323776 Conner. McKnight is here in for Waddell. And we're talking about the story that the entire sports world is talking about to. Shawn Watson is formally asked for a trade. He did so little bit ago, but it's just being publicized right now. And can the bears land him? Do they have enough? And would he waved the no trade cause you mentioned counter earlier that, you know, aggressive front office? The one thing I will give pace credit for and I'm not a pace fan, and I did not want him back. But say what you want about him. He rolls the dice and he goes big. You know, he with the Travis Key thing, and with Khalil Mack, he is not scared. Mortgage the future. He is the trade up King. He gave away two first round picks for Khalil Mack. When when there is something that he wants, he tries to go get it. And I'm not saying that he's going to get this, but you can't look at him and say, Well, Ryan Pace isn't aggressive. Well, it's just if there's a seismic shift going on in your league And your responsible for making your team better. How are you doing your job? If you're not making sure that that big seismic shift that dish on Watson changing teams How are you doing your job? If you're not checking in to see, Can I be a part of this somehow? It can't be that 13 Does somebody need my number? 20 draft pick going over to smooth out some numbers here are there and I can I don't know. Get to its hunger viol. Oh, maybe Maybe maybe he wants Jimmy Garoppolo. If to Shawn Watson is headed to the 40 Niners. I don't know why, but maybe he does. Right. Did they appoint him and there if there's fall out from whoever does get Watson on The carousel that's going to spend and I think I think part of this is Ryan paces and really every G m's responsibility. But isn't it the responsibility of Ryan Pace to make sure that there's fall out from this Watson trade? Of course, he's got football games. Oh, yeah, or he's out of a job. Johnny Norwood Park, Johnny You're on Waddle in Sylvie. What's up? Okay, guys late. Damn a couple comments here. First of all, it's flats and even thinks about Chicago. He's an idiot. Reasons why they drafted ahead of them and they didn't develop this quarterback that they drafted ahead of them. Now we got the GM. On and the head coach that are back and he's going to go to those guys who didn't really may be trusted. Never pushed towards him. Uh, I just think that's a bad decision. That's never gonna happen on 1% chance. If it does, Unless it's part of that, cut you off or anything. I'll let you keep going, obviously, but the coach did want to Shawn Watson, and that's actually kind of famously known. Matt. Matt. You wanted to Shawn Watson over Mr Biscuit. That's out. He was in Kansas City at the time. But in fact what is right, and just so you know, if we're gonna do it lets, you know, make it known. All right. And And the thing is the trust based drafting are trading for another thing. And if I was waxing I'm not going to that place. They passed me over. Screw that, man. A lot of people say that, John, A lot of people came with your opinion. Thank you for the phone call. I don't know. And dollars always been on that one, too. It's it's a great question for Schefty. Does he love this city? What do you want to live here? There are many reasons why you would want to come to Chicago. But again, there are many reasons why you want to go to Miami. You know they're in a better position to win the weather, the no state tax Uh, you know that whole thing, the whole the whole money issue money thing. That's nice. That's nice. It's good cash if you can get it, As I'm told, I don't know it myself. Harding in Charlotte. You're on ESPN 1000. What's up, Harding? Hey, how you doing, gentlemen? So I have a question about personnel bears personnel in ability, but not the players. The executive so you just made it mention about Ryan Pace. My grandmother was told me ignorance is not bliss when intelligence is of importance. So just because he was willing to take some gambles doesn't mean they were intelligent gambles. So I say that to say this at the end of the day as Bears fans do we really trust an individual to negotiate against 20 other teams with better assets than us when he negotiated against himself in some ghosts? Move up one pick to go get traditions like if you look really just breaking down the ability and talent of the individual in the office that's running our team. There is no doubt in our minds that this is not the person that would be able to pull this off. And if we're talking about the fall out and all the other quarterbacks if it's not too of like, we're not really building anywhere..

We've never had 1 24 quarterbacks in 20 years for the Chicago Bears. Will he come here? Yes, sir. No. Who the hell knows? I'm sorry. And If I have, the Bears have an opportunity to go after you go on in. You go on in because he's proven he's already proven. And you don't even know no one trust these guys. To make a pig in a draft. "Now the guy's a pro's pro. I don't know if he's still flying out to the coast on a regular basis, but he's got exposure on various platforms and the guy's an absolute stud. And part of the reason for that is his ability. Part of the reason for that is his work ethic and a small part of that is that the people that brought him in stuck with him? That was Georgia again. That was wood building on the analogy that he made it like why you get better, You know, I think Mark Pot Ash was on with us yesterday and was making the point that he thinks they are a little bit better equipped now because Ryan Pace as we know it was kind of out on his own and the on Lee guy. It sounds like he was bouncing things off of at the time was Dave. We're going. It was pretty young. When the job is the quarterback coach. Now you do have mats input in his voice and for what it's worth. We do know for a fact, man now, you would never admit this, obviously, but we've all reported it perform. We know for a fact met Maggie did have Patrick Holmes rated number one. The Shawn Watson rated number two. Mr Whiskey Rated number three. We've told you the story and you read had all those guys. Brett Beach was convinced years ago. But Andy doing the right thing, had every offensive mind in the building in Kansas City to write up, they had to rank and write up the three those three quarterbacks. And the consensus in Kansas City was more homes, and that includes the then assistant coach Matt Maggie, who wrote a passion Mom's number one so He apparently does have maybe somewhat of an eye. And that that helps Ryan pace now. And you've got the Filipo here and you've got laser here, so you've got more. You've got more eyes, hopefully better eyes. And maybe that's why they kept using the word collaborative because they wanted to stress the point that it will not be Ryan on his own. Last time, Ryan went rogue and He made the like He's made. The mistake that is going to go down in infamy in NFL history may be the Worst decision in NFL history. Certainly one of those in the Met the one that's been there has been the Mandarich decision. Okay. Bury Grandpa Tony Mandarich. True. Yeah. Deon Sanders. All the guys that were Hall of Famers right after three Straight Hall of Fame. That's the 1 may be the one This is in the pantheon of greats. One step that let's face it. I agree with you, and I'm gonna tell you why. Because if those guys end up in the Hall of Fame Then you get somebody else behind it that ends up in the hall of Fame to and what you're gonna have, which are basically will be a journeyman quarterback. Yes, he will be a journeyman quarterback. And so maybe Maybe there is some hope because it's not Ryan Pace on his own going rogue. Um It's e. I don't know what else we cry and hope for, really. Charlie Holmes. I think that's it is that there's more voices in there and they reach collaborative decision and that's the guy they're gonna take. Guys. They're not taking anybody in the first round. We understand that. You're not taking anybody in the first round. They're going to take an offensive tackle in the first round. They don't take it offensive tackle in the first round that I'm scratching my head as to what the hell they're doing. Sportsline dot com has already posted some odds even get action on the bare starting quarterback. Opening week opening Day 2021 Current NFL quarterback via trade or free agency is the favorite minus 200. Falls is the second choice of 3 to 1, a 2021 draft pick. 7.5 the one and Mitch is the long shot. Tender. One cap is reporting this morning. He had it on pretty good authority from what he heard from people in the building and in the known around the NFL that the Bears absolutely are not bringing Mitch Travis Key back Dont joke, he said she would be playing the breaking news sound bite. That was a capital, saying today and that that that does kind of feel like you know, J D was sort of hinting at that, too, that Matt Nagy is back now as the head coach. That there is no way in a very little chance that mission rescue which is why I do not want Mitch to be their bitch can say what he wants about culture. What Mitch could say Whatever he wants. Mitch got the feeling that he wasn't coming back either. Yeah. Now, the question is, Did Mitch do enough to go ahead and intrigue some people out there that he might be able to be their starting quarterback as he moves forward is Anthony Miller done in this franchise and in this organization because of what happened last Sunday, getting tossed early in the second half from a playoff game. George McCaskey talks about that next. You're listening to.

"My first reaction is shock or and I'm pissed off. That's my first reaction. 1st 100 want to take a picture? That's my first reaction. I'm picked off. They did get something they get. James Hart, Great dribble, Dribble, dribble, dribble, fat, fat, fat dribble, dribble. Dribble. No defense, no defense. New deficit! Shoot off 1000 gold. He's going to the line. My favorite part of that travel drivel. Drivel, fat, fat fat. That's amazing. Now I talked to Evan today. In between breaks. I felt as if I was a psychiatrist because he was on the air. Freaking out that off the air was just trying to calm down. It looks like he's about to cry. If I would have told him in 2016 his basketball team and end up getting the rant, Harden and Kyrie. He wouldn't even know what to do with himself. He'd be excited. But now with how things have become here and where Kyrie is perceived that also James Harden not being in shape and wondered how things will play on out and fit together. There's clearly some concern and I talked to two Nets fans, Evan and then also our former producer. My former producer, Mikey, Baby, Mikey. B. Wasn't happy as well because of all the pics. All right, talking about not happy. Let's get to the Bears organization. Your bears fan. Really? You're annoyed. So you knew Matt. Maggie was coming back. You knew Ryan Pace was coming back. I thought both should have been fired. Here is the owner of the Bears. George McCaskey says he was very proud. E can't even get to the slug line here. He was very proud of how Ryan Pace a mat Nagy bounce back. To make the playoffs. It isn't it. Ryan and Matt are men of character. They're both like Ted, outstanding leaders. Have been most impressed with how well they collaborate. Was impressed with both of them this past season, especially during the six game losing streak. The fact that our players never gave up is a tribute to the players. It is also indicative of the type of players that Ryan acquires and took the players regard for Matt as their head coach. It's a lot of garbage right there before I react, Let's hear Ryan Pace, also talking about how he's proud of how the players.

Bears plan to keep Nagy, GM Pace for at least 1 more season

"The Bears are keeping coach Mad Maggie and GM Ryan pace for another year. The team confirmed it this morning, Chairman George McCaskey saying Maggie and pace are growing in their roles, though he said neither received a contract extension. They also acknowledge the Bears need more production from the quarterback position, but did not go into specifics.

"Way don't know what the contracts look like from an Aggie and right pace and that Georgian Ted George McCaskey temples repressed sounded a little bit by reporters during a zoom call today, but Don't want to answer it. Ryan Pace was pressed a little bit. He wouldn't answer himself here, George and Ted earlier. That's an ongoing process. That'll be mostly in Ted's hands. But we haven't really gotten to that yet. J. J Let me I can add that that the contracts haven't been part of our discussions. It's not a concern with anyone. And when we show improvements Contracts will take care of themselves. That's the that's the easy answer there. Start winning. Maybe they'll get contract extensions, But as of now they will not. Here's Ryan Pace is opening statement after an 88 year aside, look back on the 2020 season and really just three days off playoff loss. I have a lot of mixed emotions. I think you think I'm one hand. I'm proud of our building our players and our staff. Really a year with the ability to justice circumstances was critical. I'll go all the way back to the draft. Through the offseason through camp. In the season. Not proud of how we handle that there's an entire team. I appreciate I respect the work at every single person did it every single person put into this during these unprecedented times. His evening. Good enough. No is losing in the first round of the playoffs. Good enough. No. Well, I appreciate is that we thought we stuck together and we start all five and one. We go through those tough six games. We win three out of five. Our final four regular season games. And I do think that speaks to the culture that we have. I think it speaks to our players and their grids. And I'm proud of that. With that said, We all have high expectations in 2020 wasn't good enough and I get that and I understand that. And ownership has given us an opportunity. They've given us all the resource is we can ask for And now that's gone Mad night approved them, right. Oh, yes, it is. We'll make it work. And here's what he says about the quarterback position where he stands right now, as far as the planet quarterback, and you know We get to where you want to go. You know, we definitely need more than out of that position. You know, we know that and you know what does that entail? That's what this whole off season is about. You know, as we go into this, Jeff, and we're just three days off a playoff loss, but that's what this off season is about. And I think When you go into your selecting the quarterback or are required to quarterback in any way we do it or whatever we do with that position, and everything's on the table. Jeff Go back to exactly what you just said. It's Collaborative relationship. That man I have You know why? Why didn't we feel strong about getting that position right? It goes back to that connected vision. I feel like when we identified What we're gonna do at a position no different than anything else. It's a collaborative effort free agency trade draft, but I just have a ton of confidence attacking it together. I can't get into specifics for competitive reasons, but I can point to recent drafts. I think when we've gone in and we've said Hey, um You know, As you know, Jeff, it's gonna be best player available, but we focus on needs. You lean towards needs, and we knew, you know, two years ago that running back was an important position for us. When we went in there in a jet in the third round, were able to identify a guy like David Montgomery. I think the same holds true to connect in jail and Johnson and Mooney this year. I just had a lot of confidence in the unity that we have a coaching staff and personnel department. Mainly that man. I have an attacking that together. Did the collaborative effort. Land them Nick Foles last off season. I think it did potentially land then Nick Foles, all right. He feels good in the collaborative effort. Not that big falls was right or wrong, but we've all gone over that situation with the coal bin. What was happening? What was going on? And was Cam Newton gonna be that much better? No. Okay. Thank you. So whatever it is, they did. They did what they thought was going to be right. And at the end of the day, none of what they were doing was right. Comiskey starts out to Adele comes out in the third game he's behind. First serious of the second half. He can't make a simple throw. They pull them Nick Foles comes back and wins that game. That correct? Yes. Okay. They end up going five, and once they win that game, they went to editor next break. They're at five and one. Everything sitting Rosie quality of competition that we all agreed on, was going to start to get a little hot little bit heavier. And then Nick Foles look lead footed. Wasn't getting a ton of protection and all of a sudden they started stringing the losses together, over and over and over and over again. And at some point, they decided to put mention Travis Key back in again. So they're going to put their faith in the collaborative effort when he says there. I mean, you listen to that sound bite that It sounds like Quarterback has to be the priority this.

"Plus, you know the I'm glad you asked that, John. The funny thing is the sun was in my eyes. You know, that's the Sun Bowl. And so the sun was kind of in my eyes, And I think maybe I was looking at something else during that game. I'm not exactly sure. That's the Bears press conference. I mean, I'm on we're on Twitter. Read it. I'm like following along here with JD and others are saying, I mean, this sounds like it's a complete disaster tonight. Yeah, this is a fiasco. I mean, just look based on what? I'm looking on it. I'm here. I'm multitasking here, listening to you guys and listening to the Bears presser here. If you were somebody who obviously did not want met Maggie and Ryan Pace retained, but You said, you know what? I'm going to keep an open mind. I'm going to listen to what the chairman George McCaskey and the president and CEO Ted Phillips has to say. Let me tell you bad news. You're not going to be convinced. I know. GD asked a question directly of George about finances or lack thereof. I guess loss of revenue because of covert and if that played a role In the decision and keeping everybody horse George for what it's Worth said it absolutely did not play a role and retaining Ryan Pace of man Nagy. Apparently they were asked about extensions There have not been contract extensions talked about and Miller said that Ted Phillips jumped in while George was fumbling around George didn't he was kind of like he was sidestepping, and then Ted Phillips jumped in and said, I could add to that The extensions will come when the winning comes on. That has not been talking about that. I can answer the question since George doesn't want to I'll answer the question. Yeah, on dead Phillips has he was asked about at this 0.6 years in, you know, Shouldn't there be more success with Ryan Pace, he said. If you break up, Ryan paces tenure into two separate categories the first three years when he was with John Fox, and the second three years with Matt Naked, you can see that there's been market improvement. He attributes that to the trust Ryan Pace has with Matt Maggie. All right, well, they definitely have won more games. And then Aguilar that the Fox I can't argue with that. I didn't think they were gonna badge of the Fox on this on this particular day before the Fox did say they didn't name him by name, Justin badgered. He just He broke up Brian Paces 10 Year into three in 2 to 3 Year period. They don't speak of John Fox up there anymore. It's funny when he first got there. They were said all the cock of the walk and waiting to see how he's going to turn this franchise. John Fox is the savior. He knows how to fix a French. By the way, his name. Maybe he knew what the hell he was doing. Because when they called that Mitch Travis Keys, Damon, he put his arms like, Wait a minute. What the hell just happened? Don't you mean Watson may add? Maybe he was the one that truly knew. What the hell was going on? Good Lord. All right, We're 40 minutes and we still haven't got the patient and negative be excruciating. This is the last one mark part Potash. Just press Ted Phillips. I'm Trying to clarify one exactly Ryan Pace and met Meg you're signed through. He's declining to answer that you want to you want answered, they respect you will need to. We can speculate on that right? Doesn't nag you have one more year and paces too. Is that right? Well, we don't know where they won't comment on whether not right how long Ryan Pace is signed through. Or maybe it's the other way around. I don't even know I couldn't does it really matter? I mean, I mean, can you not say when your head coaches signed through officially 3123323776 Calvin's on the South side? What's up, Calvin? It was going on, gentlemen, and I just want to say one thing, man. Status is usually like York. You said, I mean, cut on the same paradigm. Got a glass scrap Some man and my granddaughter. Raised me. My daughter raised the right In fact, you know what To be truthful with you. Spin issues was like my glass eye was gonna be a pack of fan because they always told me to do what's right. And I'm the best Francis 17 17 85 when they won and we got to see the same traditional Bs, and they just rip off the fans like, what can you do? It's like just like it's like a joke on top of the job. I like y'all skip man. Maybe I need to put that on a live twitter instagram because it couldn't get any better man could do that. Thanks, Calvin. We appreciate it. But Cartman chair I think we can actually get him looking a little bit like well. Ryan and fairness. Sylvie does the best pace at the station. Actually, I'm sort of just doing Sylvie's in person. I'm like Impersonating me in person, you know? Yeah. Sylvie does a pretty good pace. Sylvie's upset. Yeah, he's hot. He why we all are. I think to a certain degree, if you if you understood and you could read the tea leaves, you knew nothing was gonna happen. And the more you clamored Memorial pounded the table, the more George McCaskey and Ted Phillips you're gonna ignore what's the noise that's being held out there. There's a number of different factors that would you. No, it's not just money is a lot to do with the Bears. Since 2000 again, I'll reiterate what we were talking about during cross talk, you think? Oh, you guys are being too hard on this. And that and You know what are your demands As a fan of this franchise, Do you demand that they look something Maura like The Green Bay Packers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Seattle Seahawks, the New England Patriots, Um I mean, I'm forgetting somebody in there over since 2000 trying Remember who the second winning his team is. It goes New England and then I think it's Pittsburgh and then and then Green Bay. The Bears of 16. You want him to be smack dab in the middle since 2000 the Bears are 1 65 and 1 71. That is the 16th best winning percentage halfway home. You want him to be halfway?.

Bears announce coach Matt Nagy, GM Ryan Pace will return after 'impressive' finish to 2020

"Apparently matt nagy is going to make it to next year. The bears are gonna keep him the head coach. The general manager ryan pays. Who may have been more maligned than nagy. Decline the fifth year option trubisky. But it's still an option to bring him back in some way our jeff dickerson who covers the bears is essentially reporting. Nagy and pace will be back. Our dan orlovsky is voicing his opposition. What has matt nagy done as for his a an organizer as far as a leader as far as a person with foresight within their organization to say yes in that head coaching role. We love them. Now we're going to allocate some of the play calling responsibilities or the offensive viewpoint. Who are we going to give that to. And what has matt nagy done within. That building approve on great in this role. I understand what dan is coming from. But i think in this situation. He has a winning record. Chuck pagano is retiring as a defense coordinator so he's got to his staff and his thought process in his thinking. Maybe there's a guy or two out there that is really good at calling. Plays really good at putting a system in place to make. Whoever the quarterback is going to be in the future for them successful. So i'm okay with them taking a look see. They just went to the playoffs. So you take a look in just poo. poo it. because you've got to restart things all over again when you completely blow everything up so give it a shot in twenty twenty one see where it's at. He's going to be before you make that decision and that move now mr bisky mitch. Trubisky is jockeying for position to come back and be the chicago. Bears starting quarterback again. Now maybe there's a small deal there because they didn't pick up the fifth year option. There's a small little deal. Maybe there's a two year deal. That is a proven deal that he can now show with a new office coordinator his abilities that he showed in north carolina and made them take him as a number two pick overall.

"For one, the Bears defensive coordinator is retiring. But the bigger news from now multiple sources of bread Biggs the trip had it first. The rumor flying around the NFL right now is that the Bears will retain general Manager Ryan Pace and head coach Mad Maggie into 2021. That's what folks working in the league have heard. We'll see if the team is something this evening, but that is the chatter that is out there right now. "If The general manager Ryan Pace, and Matt Maggie might have been out of jobs had they not 13 of their last four in the regular season to get into the playoffs. Don't know if that was good for them a bad for them. 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. Evan is in Florida. Welcome to after hours. Amy Luminous. Wow. What a great What a great opportunity to be in your presence on the telephone. How were you? First and foremost your insurance? Absolutely fantastic. Thank you, sir. I'm good. All right, I buttered you up enough. I have to questions and, uh, two of two statements in the question. Um, the number one statement is a legit legit statement. The other one's a little bit more of a conspiracy theory. The first one is with Cam Newton. He lost the last seven games. I believe this season and 20, maybe 17 and going into 2019. Whatever it is. He lost the last the last of his time with the Panthers. He lost nine games in a row before he was replaced. And it we're looking at Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger seems to be headed towards the same type of trajectory of if he even gets the chance to lose nine games, because right now, I believe it's like I've I mean, and the other thing is, is the state's game and I want to hear your take on that, obviously, and then the same game. That touched them at the end of the game. That was those Jimmy Graham. They didn't kick the extra point and for people that were betting on that game That on that point spread was from 10 to 11. And they kicked that extra point. We're talking about a push. So that was a very potentially expensive extra point. And we please actually produce about that. I have to hang up and just put me on mute so I could listen to you. Yeah, I'm sure he can hear you. Thanks, Evan for the phone call s so I don't know anything about betting line, So I'll leave that to you. Um, but But I will say this about about what you started with, which was quarterback wins and losses. I actually hate that stat. I think it's ridiculous. The the quarterback does not win and lose games all by himself. With Cam Newton. There were big time injuries, obviously, before the Panthers not only put him on I R and put it on the shelf for the rest of the way. But then Ron Rivera got comfortable with Kyle Allen and decided that he wouldn't go back to T O Cam Newton. Maybe because they already knew that the Panthers were going toe look a different direction, and obviously, Ron Rivera lost his job before they became his decision. As for Ben, Rafa's burger, this team started out 11 and Oh, and I don't I'm not saying he's completely absolved of any responsibility and he would tell you he takes on the blame himself. But this isn't all on Rafa's burger. They had zero run game and I mean, zero run game to speak of. None on so he was setting a playoff record for most pass attempts and most completions on I know they were behind, so it's a little bit of a different game, but that's what they've been doing all season long is nothing but passing the ball, passing the ball. Passing. The ball is too much to ask for an older quarterback, and it's not a balanced offense. It all and it makes it a lot easier for defense is to game plan against so they need to shore up their run game. They obviously need to fix the offensive line, eh? So there's a lot of issues there. I think the defense, isn't it. Spot. But the offense needs an overhaul. And while it may or may not include Rafa's burger, moving forward, I don't think I'm of the opinion that the man can't throw the ball anymore. He passed for 500 yards in this game, so they just need to not have such a lopsided offense. To me. That's the major issue. And then, of course, the turnovers early. You know, the defense got smacked in the mouth, too, though in that first quarter, with Karim Hunt, being able T scored two touchdowns in his first two Times touching the ball, So they got outplayed and out, really outplayed, outcoached and manhandled in every facet of this game early on, and just put themselves in too big of a whole. To come out of. So we're going to talk about the other. A F C North team here is we start the top of the hour. Ravens beating the Titans exacting some revenge. We've got our matchups for a divisional weekend..

Jaguars ship Nick Foles to Bears, one year after signing him to $88m deal

"Radio Brady of course not the only quarterback who's on the move this week Evers teddy Bridgewater Marcus Mariota and now Nick Foles balls is heading to Chicago the bears pulling off a trade with Jacksonville Chicago gives up a compensatory fourth round pick in return for getting Nick Foles so what happens now in Chicago here's our Mike Tannenbaum and feel gates there's a restart because in in our last show we had a debate about whether we think this is Nick Foles job immediately or whether we think this is competition to pursue the starting job and he admits will battle it out during offseason workouts if we have them and then eventually during training camp if that goes on as scheduled I look at it like this the bears were settling if they stuck surface did that with Mitch Trubisky yep the rosters to well fortified in too many spots and there were too many obvious concerns and trade you're right right pace may forever have to live with the idea that he took Mitch Trubisky ten slots ahead of Patrick Mahomes and deshaun Watson we get and traded up one of the first round pick to move up one slot to get him really I'm just gonna put but it's over it's done with that I've been two thousand and seventeen fun ways to win football games and salvage I mean it and we talk about this during lunch again the like you know Matt Ryan pays to be feeling the heat a little bit right now right he knows he's got to win this year and this division is not a cake walk you've got a good Vikings team made the playoffs last year an actual Packers team within its energy efficient game last year this is not an all in move but this is a movie you have to make to put yourself back in the mix to be competitive and allow yourself to playing January football Soldier Field again they had to make so I had to make a move etrade you said what is it on the play calling which basically was a three year starter they had one winning season when I was at the Dauphin two years ago were playing against him we want him to throw the ball down the field to the left he couldn't do that he he was thirtieth in the league in average yards per attempt that's a critical statistic that compresses the field and the other thing about Ryan pace the fields point which is your locker room keeps your general manager there is a check and balance they have a championship defense to Ryan pace's credit he could walk into that locker so he felt we could go win with Mitch Trubisky after we have three years of a sample set now you walk and say Hey this guy's won a Super Bowl we have a real chance now it injects energy into that whole program it also has three years left on the contract with twenty one million guaranteed the falls also has the ability now to avoid the deal after either of the first two years in Chicago depending on his

The Bears ended an 'especially disappointing' season with an especially disappointing press conference

"Ryan Pace. You're on the clock despite a disappointing season for Mitchell trubisky. The bears announced that he is returning as the team's starter in twenty twenty. There were however some some changes. The team fired four coaches from the offensive staff including offensive coordinator. And then you look at what happened. The last six weeks of the season season. And this is what I think. Gm Ryan Pace has had on you look at the record. Obviously passing yards. Everything improved but dominique. Are you really buying this statement. Because because from my point of view on the outside looking in D- in the Arizona cardinals say you know. What Josh Rosen Guy? By the way Kyla Murray were drafted number. One I'm glad we got Tannenbaum Outta here because in general managers lie that was a general manager generally lying I at least I hope it was because would Mitchell trubisky show like. It's hard to come back with this guy. Considering the way that he performed. I know we got better in part because the coaching around him got better. They started moving out of the pocket and running the ball with a little more. That's encouraging however it's hard to. It's it's impossible to argue that. He's not wildly inaccurate. And that's tough in this league to be wildly inaccurate. Like he is and I

Arizona Cardinals are expected to take Oklahoma quarterback Tyler Murray with the first pick in tonight's NFL draft while the bear sit and wait don't hold a pick until number eighty seven overall in the third row general manager Ryan pace in his scouting staff will spend tonight monitoring other teams picks trying to get an edge on Friday night. I paid attention to who's getting drafted what physicians are getting selected at trying to project. How that's going to further around as we get further into the draft asked for his philosophy. Pay says it doesn't change he'll continue to focus on the best players and not the teams

Bears will release kicker Cody Parkey at the start of the new league year

"Let's talk about the Chicago Bears. They are going to release Cody parkey at the start of the new league year sources confirmed ESPN today. Sources are we are we surprised I mean, I don't think this is a surprising move. I think I think that the the timing of it the way that it just kind of came out of the blue from Ian Rapoport tweeting it out confirmed by Adam Schefter. So now, it's basically official until they do it. The league year starts in the middle of March. That's when the the free. Agency, period begins teams can sign players teams can trade players and teams can release players. And one of those players will be Cody parkey, it's going to cost the bears on the dead cap. Five point five point one five point one almost five point two million dollars. So they're going to basically have to pay to kickers next year. You're going to have to pay Cody parkey to go away. And then you're gonna have to pay whoever ends up being the bears kicker whether that's someone that they draft hopefully, not or someone that they sign whether it's veteran, whether it's an undrafted free agent, weather, whoever it is they're going to have to pay to kickers the article on ESPN dot com says parking miss eight field goals, including a forty three yard kick. That would have beaten the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs. We know that with his first season with the bears the bears signed parking for a four year four year deal including nine million dollars guaranteed last March bears coach Matt Nagy express disapproval with park Parke's decision to appear on the today show five days after missing his final attempt after. Filadelfia? The NFL network was first to report that parkey will be released from the Chicago Bears. So that's dot com and Abdali, you're right. Like it's not a surprise as a bears fan. I think we all saw this coming and you're right. They're going to have to pay to kickers again not much of a surprise because we all saw this coming the thing that I want to see is allow someone to win this job this summer, right? Undrafted rookie guys who are out there on the street right now have a kicking competition this summer in training camp allowed the guy to win that competition and that will be your kicker heading into the season. I don't want to spend any more big dollars on a kicker now. That's just my philosophy. I'm Chris black. And that's what I do if I'm running a football team. I don't spend on kickers. That's just why do I also don't draft running backs in the first round. And that's how I run my organization, and I continued drafting quarterbacks until I find the guy that's how I would run things. So I get it that Ryan pace has. Messed up. I'm glad that Ryan that Cody parkey will be gone, but let's not mess up again and pay big time for a kicker whose unnecessary. Let's just find someone who can get the job done probably at the league minimum. And let's go on our merry way. Because in all reality. I know what a lot bears fans are going to tell us is the reason they didn't win the Super Bowl this year. Was Cody parkey. And I think that that's not correct. I think the reason you lost that eagles game is because that kick did not go through. But you also had opportunities where you could win the football game. And not put it in your kickers. Put you see what I'm saying? So the bears have many opportunities going forward to be a very good football team. And I think overspending on a kicker after this mess up by Ryan pace in in signing, Cody parking in the first place. Let's not compound this issue. Let's just find the guy in training camp. And let's go forward as bears fans. Yeah. I think the reason that you lost that game is because Cody parkey had to make three. Kicks to set up that fourth kick. Right. And then Mitchell Trubisky didn't get his blank together until the second half of the game. And then drove them down the field in what should have been a game winning drive. And then ultimately you the team's effort was placed on Cody parkey. I'm not gonna sit here and let you slander Mitch Trubisky tonight Abdala the defense also had an opportunity to stop. Yeah. Did who is not a outstanding quarterback zone? Right. Like the bears defense. The best defense in the league could have shown up in the fourth quarter in stop the eagles. Offense, thus negating the necessity of Cody parkey to even have to make a kick out the end opportunities to beat the eagles in that football. Here's a will. Appease the fan base. You've already done the first thing you've cut Cody parkey, check, right. The next thing is not don't answer to the cries of the fans and say go sign Robbie gold Ella. Rodney gulp. Ravi builds. Great kicker. Great kicker. Wasn't a good kicker when he was cut by the bears. But ultimately said that's what he needed to get back. So don't call up and say, well, he was he he's being great. They would've won. No, they wouldn't have if they wouldn't have ever if they would cut him. It's a cutting him for him to go back and figure out a new to readjust his kicking to figure out a way to get right again. And he did. And now he's good kicker again. He's also gonna be expensive. So don't spend that money. Don't spend an extra five million dollars that extra nine. Dollars or whatever signing Ravi gold. Go find next Ravi gold. Spend the minimum like you said don't draft either. No don't be drafting kickers. We're not drafted running backs in the first round. Have a whole lot of traffic in this strap. We shouldn't be you shouldn't go out and try to draft a kicker because you have to address other issues on this team. And that's going to be done with those draft picks you find the undrafted free agent. You hold tryouts. You do whatever you do make it a Disney movie. I don't care. Find a kicker and find a way because you don't will. Appease the fan base ultimately
