"Is today's public hearing of the January 6th committee. It's expected to examine any potential ties between right-wing militia groups and the Trump White House. Maryland congressman Jamie Raskin will lead the inquiry today and among the witnesses a former member of the far right group, the oath keepers. Joining us live now on Skype as CNN congressional correspondent Ryan nobles, Ryan, who specifically are we hearing from today and what is the aim of the select committee in today's public hearing? Yeah, that's right, Mark. We're going to hear from two different individuals who have ties to the violence that took place on January 6th. One with a specific tie to the oath keepers, which is a right wing nationalist group that has been I buy the Justice Department, many of their members already under arrest charged with seditious conspiracy. Jason to van Tottenham was a former spokesperson for the oath keepers. He told his local TV station that his perspective today will be about the history of the organization, how they came to be and how they radicalize their members that come under their ranks. And then the other person we're expected to hear from is Stephen ayers, and he is someone who is not directly tied to either of these extremist groups, but he is someone who was radicalized on the Internet, who went down Facebook and Twitter rabbit holes in the days after the 2020 election leading up to January 6th and came to Washington because he was spurred on by members of Trump's team and people close to the former president and was convinced that he needed to come to Washington to wage what he called a Civil War. He has already pled guilty to entering the capitol illegally with someone on that day who ended up committing suicide after the fact when they were charged by the Department of Justice. So what the committee is trying to show here is that this combination of right-wing extremism tied with the misinformation that was coming from the Trump campaign and the Trump White House was what laid the groundwork for the violence and chaos on January 6th. Ryan, there was also a tweet from then president Trump that the committee is particularly interested in back in December that involved Mike Flynn and lawyers, Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, tell us more about why this is a focus. Yeah, that's exactly right, Deborah. So this tweet came on December 19th and it was the day after of meeting that took place in The White House with a group of election deniers. You mentioned some of them Sidney Powell, Michael Flynn and Rudy Giuliani and others. And The White House counsel pat cipollone was also a part of that meeting and there was a pretty serious back and forth between the two different factions of the Trump wing of the campaign and The White House. Some that were trying to convince a former president that it was time to move on. And others that were feeding his desire to try and overturn the election. And the day after that meeting is when Trump sent a tweet that basically called his members to Washington on January 6th and what the committee is going to be able to piece together today during their hearing was that that became somewhat of a clarion call for all of these right wing extremist groups, the Proud Boys, the oath keepers, the three percenters, and then just a rank and file mega crew that wanted to be a part of something and that Trump's tweet was what spurred that all on and that's part of the reason that all these big crowds came to Washington and it was with a specific intent and that was to stand in the way of the certification of the election. Ryan, how many more of these public hearings are we likely to see from the committee and is there something big that is expected to happen as they begin to wrap this up? So we know for sure Mark, there's at least one more that they say will be planned for next week and the committee has already said that that could be their most explosive hearing. And that's where they're going to paint the picture of the former president's inaction on January 6th that 187 minutes they often talk about while the capital was under siege and what they call Donald Trump's dereliction of duty. That could be a prime time hearing that will happen next week. They don't have specific plans for any other hearings after that, but there's always the possibility that another one could pop up. If a witness comes forward with information that they believe the public needs to hear and then of course there's their final report that will be issued sometime this fall, the report itself will be a written report, but there's always that possibility that they add a hearing along with it to kind of outline what they discovered in the report. The one thing the committee has found is that the American public is interested in these hearings. They're still getting tens of millions of viewers every single time they're having the effect they wanted them to have. So there is the very real possibility that we could see more in the future. Ryan, great to have you as always. Thanks so much for that information. CNN's congressional correspondent Ryan nobles. By the way, that hearing

"Go to long fans dot com and schedule your free estimate today It's 8 11 now and the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin historic confirmation hearings today for judge ketanji Brown Jackson If confirmed the 51 year old judge will become the first black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court Joining us now to go deeper on this on Skype as CNN congressional correspondent Ryan nobles Ryan these confirmation hearings have developed into a strategy of the judge would say as little as possible a little as possible about everything but other things she would be willing to talk about Well I think it'll be interesting Bruce to see how willing Republicans are to press her on some of the aspects of her background that they find to be problematic In an attempt to score political points more than anything it's a pretty much a foregone conclusion that she's going to be confirmed The Democrats have the votes to get that done But there are still some Republicans on this panel who would like to get the attention that would come with asking her some tough questions Now we don't expect that to happen today But later in the week as these hearings continue you might see for instance Josh hawley of Missouri who had a lengthy thread on Twitter over the weekend about his concerns about rulings that she had and some child pornography cases that she might be pressed on that There's also questions about her stance on affirmative action that some Republicans might have a problem with But you're right Bruce overall her judicial record is one that has been of relative moderation and one that shouldn't be problematic as she is likely to coast to confirmation Ryan West Virginia senator Joe Manchin has been a stumbling block on other Biden initiatives What do we know about his feelings on this nomination So far he has been very complimentary of judge Jackson He hasn't said anything that would make you think that he isn't going to come right out and confirm her confirmation he seems to be willing to be part of the team on this one This isn't a nomination that a lot of people are finding problematic In fact there's even the possibility that some Republicans may cross over and vote for her as well You know I don't think that we can lose sight of the fact that this is a historic nomination It is the first black woman to ever be appointed to the Supreme Court It's something that Joe Biden promised his supporters he would do when he was elected president even before he won the democratic nomination he promised that this was something he was going to do So you don't see too many Democrats and even a handful of Republicans wanting to get in the way of this historic nomination process especially when you have someone as qualified as judge Jackson and it appears that Joe Manchin will join those in confirming All right it gets underway in just a few hours Ryan always good to talk to you Thanks so much for joining us this morning Thank you CNN congressional correspondent Ryan nobles The latest on Russia's continued war against Ukraine 8 14 Hi my name is Kent basalis I have worked in the electrical industry for 6 years I became a member of the electricians union local 26.

"A big new development this week in the House select committee investigation into the capital riot Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is apparently now cooperating with the panel after the chairman threatened to hold him in contempt of Congress A medals you'll remember served as former via former president Trump's top aide in the final months of his term in office This morning she had been congressional correspondent Ryan nobles who broke the story on what medals may or may not provide here So we don't know the full breadth of his level of cooperation but both the committee and medals lawyer telling CNN that he has agreed to sit for a deposition We don't know the date of that deposition And he's also agreed to hand over documents Beyond that we don't know exactly what it is that he's willing to answer questions about or what documents specifically he's willing to hand over his attorney George toilet or told us in a statement that he is still concerned about executive privilege claims that he believes the former president Donald Trump still has a right to But the committee has indicated through several interviews with members that they may not want to ask Meadows specifically about conversations that he had with Donald Trump in and around the time leading up to January 6th But there are questions that they have that they believe go on beyond the scope of privilege So medals is going to come in He's going to have a conversation with them There could still be a rub though when he actually sits down and if they ask a question that they believe does not fall under executive privilege but Mark Meadows does there could be another impasse Still this is significant progress and what it means in kind of a bottom line sense is that the committee is not going to move ahead with a criminal contempt referral against Mark minos as they have done with two other Trump allies Ryan Mark Meadows has held out for quite a long time Others have outright refused like Steve Bannon could Meadows agree to meet and speak with this committee maybe prompt others to do the same It certainly seems as though the tactic that the committee has taken by being aggressive in pushing for criminal contempt referrals of Steve Bannon and Jeffrey Clark that that is set a signal and a message to some of these other subpoena targets that they're willing to do whatever it takes to get the information And we do know from our reporting that Mark Meadows definitely did not want to deal with the specter of a criminal contemporary referral He did not want to go through that court process He didn't want to have to face prosecution on that level So that's part of what has led him to comply Now again I go back to the idea that his compliance at any point could derail in the committee could take that step But yes in a broader sense there are a wide range of people under subpoena now They've issued 45 different subpoenas and they're seeing different levels of engagement in cooperation with a lot of these people And there's no doubt that the specter of the committee willing to take that step of a criminal prosecution for people that don't comply could be part of why they are having some success with people coming forward and providing the information they're looking for One of those people that they're having difficulty with is a former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark Where does that part of the investigation stand right now So the committee moving ahead with a criminal contemporary for all of Clark you'll remember that Clark actually did come into a meeting a deposition with the committee but as soon as he got there he refused to answer questions So tonight the committee will have a business meeting where they will formally make that referral Could be voted on in the full House floor by Thursday then just like Bannon it will be in the hands of the Department of Justice CNN congressional correspondent Ryan nobles on WTO P talking with Brennan and Shawn you are listening to 103.5 FM.

Takeaways from Congress’ first Washington DC hearing on Capitol riot

"What went wrong looking into the security lapses. That happened before the Capitol riot last month with us to talk about the latest on these hearings on Capitol Hill is CNN, Washington correspondent Ryan Nobles. He joins us on Skype. So Ryan, these investigations are really just beginning. But have we learned anything so far? What the takeaways from day one. Yesterday's hearing was pretty explosive on many levels. Nick you heard from many of these officials from the various law enforcement agencies, some who have been forced out of their jobs. About what went wrong on that day. And what was perhaps the most shocking was that there was intelligence on the table that some of these agencies, the FBI and other agencies had taken in a lot of social media chatter from people that had said that they were specifically Coming to Washington with the goal of storming or causing chaos at the Capitol, and that information never made its way down to Capitol police sergeant in arms on other various law enforcement agencies, the Washington metro, much Politan Police department and they were never able to use that information to help prepare and as a result, they you know, the these leaders just were not prepared for the overwhelming crush of people that descended on the Capitol that day. On and you basically what lawmakers came to the conclusion that there needs to be a better flow of information to the folks that are gonna be making decisions about how to protect the capital in the future. There was some finger pointing that occurred yesterday, too, and that's getting a lot of attention. Yeah, That's right. You know, you had Capitol police saying something different What this Senate sergeant at arms, said Metropolitan Police seem to have a different perception is to have that information flow came down. And then one of the big things Joan that no one seemed to be able to agree on is when the National Guard was called in for reinforcement in and why it took so long for the National Guard to actually make it to the capital. To help protect the members of Congress and people that were at the Capitol. And then why the National Guard wasn't there even ahead of all of this s O. You know, this is just the beginning of this process. You know, this is one hearing, they said today or yesterday should say that there's gonna be another hearing that will involve the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. And then, of course, Speaker Pelosi is in the process of drafting legislation that would form a 9 11 style commission to look into all of this. It's gonna be a long time before you know all the information comes out as to what exactly went wrong in January Sex. Okay,

Trump Again Scorns Science on Masks and Vaccines

"President Trump continues to dispute what scientists are saying about the race for a vaccine yesterday claiming the CDC Director was confused when Dr Redfield said, there would not be enough vaccines for the general public until late two, thousand and twenty one as C. N. N.'s Ryan Nobles now reports Dr Robert. Redfield today talked about his future on the job. Thank you. President trump on the road to the battleground of Wisconsin with plans for another packed rally with very few precautions in place to prevent the spread of Corona virus. The rallies which are picking up frequency symbolized the president's approach to the virus contradicting the specific guidance set out by his administration's Centers for disease, control like wearing masks, masks of problems too, and I talked about the masks have to be handled very gently very carefully. The president continues to doubt the benefit of masks despite CD director Robert Redfield telling a congressional panel in explicit terms just how valuable can be to stopping the spread I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against. Cova Than when I take a covert vaccine, the disconnect on masks emblematic of the ongoing clash between the president and those tasked with containing covert. Especially when it comes to win a vaccine could be ready redfield born in Congress a reliable vaccine will take time I. Think we're probably looking at third. Late second quarter. Third. Twenty twenty one but trump claiming the doctor. Had IT wrong? I think he made a mistake when he said that it's just incorrect information. Even though trump's handpicked member of the Task Force Dr Scott Atlas agreed a widely distributed safe vaccine won't be ready by Election Day. And then the. There will be seven, hundred, million doses by end of coupon. Redfield did not back down making it clear in a statement that he meant when he said about the vaccine timeline and promising that he has no plans to step down at the same time president trump blamed blue states or states with democratic governors for the high death toll the standoff prompting swift criticism from Democrats. If you close your eyes and pretend that half the country doesn't exist, maybe some might think you didn't do such a spectacularly awful

Biden's lead over Trump is the steadiest on record

"Day Day in in the the rear rear view view mirror. mirror. Now Now the the presidential presidential campaign campaign will will be be heating heating up up for for sure sure we we go go deeper deeper now. now. With With CNN, CNN, Washington Washington correspondent correspondent Ryan Ryan Nobles Nobles joining joining us us from from the the White White House House this morning on Skype. Ryan Poles have been fairly consistent over the past few months. Joe Biden holding about a 10 point lead over Donald Trump nationally. How's the Trump campaign hoping to close that captain? How's the Biden campaign, hoping to hold him off? Yeah, well, first things Bruce, the Trump campaign would refute public polling. They would tell you that the race is a lot closer than what the public polling is telling us much like we saw in 2016. But what you see from the Trump campaign right now is a coordinated effort. To try and really take advantage of the violence and unrest that we're seeing in some American cities As the result of these protests that took place because of shootings by police with unarmed African Americans and You know, the Trump campaign sees this as a wedge issue for them, particularly in some of these key swing states where they won four years ago where Republicans don't traditionally when that's in the upper Midwest places like Michigan and Wisconsin, and they're going to continue to beat that drum. On the other side of the coin. You see the Biden campaign slowly starting to actually get back to physical campaigning. Joe Biden travelling a lot more than he was during the summer because of the Corona virus pandemic and for the Biden campaign. It's just about not screwing things up. They feel like they've got a comfortable lead their head in the places they need to be ahead off. So it's really about the Trump campaign, putting the pressure on them and Biden trying to resist making a big mistake and interesting that potential Corona virus vaccine that so many people have been hoping for, has now become a point of contention in the campaign. It's kind of a weird thing, right, Bruce? I mean, everybody's been begging and hoping that Ah, vaccine would come sooner rather than later. But now that the Trump administration has seemed to indicate that they're going to attempt to push the vaccine, maybe even before Election Day that has Democrats raising questions as to whether or not they're doing it safely and you even saw you know, Vice President Biden and and Kamala Harris was running mate split on whether or not they would take a vaccine if it were rushed to market before the election. Certainly raising some questions, and the other part of this, too, is that it You know, there's a lot of the Trump base a lot of Trump supporters that are skeptical about vaccines in general. So the idea that they would be you know, anxious to take a vaccine like this that comes on the market so soon is really an interesting dynamic in this entire race, and you're headed to North Carolina tonight. That's right. The president, I got a very busy campaign schedule. He's gonna be in to swing states today is gonna spend the morning in Jupiter, Florida and then had to Winston Salem, North Carolina tonight. Later in the week, he'll be in Pennsylvania this weekend heading to the West Coast going to make a stop in Nevada. The president is in full campaign mode right now, and I could tell you I've covered about a half a dozen of these rallies. They're taking very few, if any. Corona virus precautions. Very few masks, People shoulder to shoulder. The president's basically put the pandemic in the rear view mirror and is focusing completely on, you know, firing his campaign up just like it was in March. All right, Ryan, thanks Appreciate the update, CNN, Washington correspondent Ryan Nobles joining us on Skype this morning.

Trump says Kenosha trip could increase 'enthusiasm' amid concerns it will stir tensions

"President Trump is off to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Today we got a preview from CBS News. White House correspondent Stephen Portnoy. President Trump says he doesn't believe his trip to Kenosha will increase. It also increased enthusiasm. And it could increase love and respect for our country. Mr. Trump, who says he'll meet with law enforcement, but not the family of Jacob Blake offered a defensive Kyle Riton house, the 17 year old accused of killing two men in Kenosha with a semiautomatic rifle. I guess he was in very big trouble he would have been, I probably would have been killed, but it's under its under investigation. Meantime, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden blames the president for rioting, saying he's stoking violence in our cities. CNN. Washington correspondent Ryan Nobles told us this morning that while Biden's response is a part of his campaign strategy, it also serves as a reminder of how the president has responded to the protests and the point that Joe Biden made yesterday's and all these problems are happening under Presidents Watch in, while President Trump is trying to create this dystopian gloom and doom picture of what could happen If Joe Biden were elected, Biden is reminding voters that President Trump is currently the president, and that's what's happening right now. So Biden tryingto make sure that he is clear that he's on the side of the social justice protesters. But he also agrees that the violence is a bridge too far and that there needs to be some sort of calm brought too many of these cities. Biden condemned the violence, saying rioting and looting is not protest Ng it's lawlessness.
