"Of sixteen. Or if you're not we've seen lots of different crazy format changes to this all star as the years and we're gonna talk about this years for sure for the show is over but ryan newman is going to weigh on. His favourite format has been throughout the years of the of the all star race. And i really don't know that. I have one set to just talking about cookies and making myself hungry. I i know that some you know the way i want. It eliminated competition Reality that competitions eliminated anyway. I mean you. You're not gonna go from twentieth to first and ten laps. It just doesn't happen so it's It kind of is what it is and we deal with the ingredients that nascar provides for the all star race going into it. And you just do your best to try to make up for what you're lacking whether it's strapped positions starting position Things like that and make good day out after eighteen cup series wins ryan runs down his favorite trophies. That he's one. So i think that the no-brainer for me for the most trophy i've ever earned. And then ben recipient of was the daytona five hundred in two thousand and eight fiftieth running. I have the one. And only when i say that they want only. There's a replica. Made for for the team owner and whatnot. But the original the original the one in all given in victory lane gold harley gerald trophy and neil that commemorates the fiftieth running the five hundred so that will always be. I don't know. I don't know that there's anything that could be more special than that. I don't mean even a cup championship trophy at a one. That has you know the significance of fifty years of the sport and the people that i've followed as as as a driver and as a fan before i ever my own race car driver in nascar so that the brickyard four hundred was really special Just because i'm from indiana in the yard of bricks and the break comes on the trophy. And then i always keep my My second place finish in the two thousand fourteen championship That was that was just significant race because it was one race. We were so close. We be but we We gave it a hundred percent and then we got one hundred percent. We just didn't have enough in every off off-season in the winter. There is a prestigious prestigious midget dirt race that's ran indoors and tulsa chili bowl nationals ryan talks about running that this past year. I won't say a testify driving skills. It just I had to knock off some rust that i had From over the years. I never drove a midget like that. And then we talked about it at the chili bowl. Never drove a major like that. That much power away ratio and listen the front tires off the ground when i drove midgets back ninety three and four and five when i raised mostly under ben or ran dirt as well as payment is trying to say and You know for me. It was just kind of an opportunity. you know very thankful for driven to save lives and cost close marshall racing to give me that opportunity to go out there and do that in this past year wasn't as successful as it was the year before but i had my kids there. They got the chance to see it and be a part of me racing and the chili bowl which is a different kind of special But but it's It's just racing. i've always. I've always admired in heard me say this to admired guys. That can drive anything anywhere at any time at. Aj to tony stewart's and now the kyle larson of of the world so That's just This is the way i look at it. It's it's just a part of what my makeup is. And i've always looked at myself as a race or not a stock car racer or a midget racer or a go. Kart race or quarter midget racer just racer. And if i got an opportunity to jump in something that's good. I'll strap and went on and do it like us. At facebook dot com slash. The final lap like us. "Luster. Same significance And i'm not a fan of really any other sports for that matter. But they all star games the all star events in other sports. I think are pretty equal to what we do. I guess point is is they are especially that what is ryan newman have left to prove in the cup series. A great question. The reality is way past the point of being more successful than a failure of after seven. Hundred plus starts and only eighteen wins. There's not enough life. Meet to try to get their back to a fifty fifty number But you're right. I i feel like i've been so close for the coq. Six hundred did so close to the southern five hundred championship road for all those things have been secondhand Which is nothing to be ashamed host but at the same time. It's not even the goals that i want and That's that's really where i stand. And why i said it's just a i guess i said for somebody i don't i don't want to have. I don't mean a bad way by any means. I think you know that. No i don't want to have mark martin syndrome. Where you you adji blah but don't always see the things that you say you wanted to achieve But i think that's the case for so many people in our sport of their first top ten or top five and You know to have eighteen wins and all that is special in as many as i have a special but it's It's cobbling sport and you're never probably as successful as you think you.

NASCAR driver Ryan Newman Walks Out of Hospital Holding Daughters' Hands After Wreck
"That's our driver Ryan Newman has probably heard walked out of the hospital this past Wednesday just two days after his horrific crash during the final lap of the Daytona five hundred is racing team tweeted a photo of the forty two year old Newman walking out with two daughters meanwhile the wreck last Monday had all the trappings of a tragedy right a speeding car flying up in the air turned upside down hit by another car in mid air on the driver side of the vehicle and bursting into flames skidding to a stop on its roof yet somehow Newman survived in his number six Ford here's an in depth look at the safety measures in place from Brent Scruton bore reporter at USA today print set this up for those who don't follow NASCAR I mean it's in the in a watch that crash which has been all over the news on mainly you wonder how anybody could survive something like that flips upside down to get it contend that driver side of the car and it's really a miracle that he survived it in a in a way it wasn't because if you look at what happened after Dellinger going hurt the legendary NASCAR driver after he died in the Daytona five hundred in two thousand one the people took a lot of steps with safety they need a lot of advancements and that one of them is we quietly in head and neck restraints in the car another is providing better and more energy ups or being the walls so that you're not crashing into a concrete wall like this happen before knowledge that the number of drivers could have died because of head injuries after collisions with a wall and have there been other engineering things that they've done they they started a research and development center in Concord North Carolina that opened in two thousand three and what they do is they they certified cars being safe enough they do research and safety testing and always looking for ways to make a very dangerous sport a lot safer and one of the other things I learned is that they they they put some energy and absorbing things and on the sides of the car and even moved the driver's seat closer to the center of the car and it you know you take all those things together and you watch it crash that happened on Monday and you can see how all those things could've saved his life speak with prince Croton for sports reporter at USA today about his piece entitled how did driver Ryan Newman survive that NASCAR crash at Daytona happened Monday night I didn't know that they had moved the driver seat a little bit more toward the middle that may have obviously helped Ryan Newman as well I mean to think that hit the wall first red hat on it well I would I would imagine a hundred ninety miles an hour if not yeah right the flies in the air then gets hits on the driver side like you know what what we would think like maybe his the side of his head we're going to buy another car going that speed is just the it's on the same couple are but now as you said this this R. and D. center I guess gets a lot of credit and that's unique it is the the the the first motor sports governing body that had anything like that yeah maybe that's really proactive you think about I mean did this kind of thing is that the so called part of the game the only thing for so long and they realize that one of the quotes I've read in a in other stories that I've read about this is you can have the heroes of your sport dying or something to that effect think about I mean it's a smart business move too it's not totally out of the goodness of their hearts and they want to continue to survive as a sport they can't have people die and every year like Taylor caught it right so they made an investment in in this kind of research and development and and it's it's not coming it's that's not to say that they've they've not been lucky I mean but I mean there may have been there haven't been any deaths in the three top national series in NASCAR since Earnhardt died but there have been plenty of injuries and collisions and sometimes you look at those you wonder how they survive though you know they are Kyle Busch and in twenty fifteen the a brokers like an extraordinary Dale Earnhardt's son Dale junior retired a few years ago because in part he had suffered a number of concussions and was concerned about his future in the towers that goes so I mean it's not killing a sport not without its risks it's obvious to say but you do wonder though even there though they have made such progress at I mean it's the risk is always gonna be that you still think it's a little bit of a crap shoot interview watch that video Ryan Newman crash he eat it what could fall to I mean the AutoCAD things definitely help but you know you're you're flying around in in in the area because of the strike like that there's a little bit of luck with landing in the right place and that
Newman out of hospital after Daytona crash
"Line he would SiriusXM NASCAR radio Corey la Joye reveal that Ryan Newman was in great spirits when he spoke to him joking around just days after a fiery crash landed Newman in the hospital in serious condition or so you're going to Armonk now instead of seven I thought that was funny these down there so I guess with the Martins house in Florida and the joy was involved in that Daytona wreck Newman's car smashing in front of his the driver the number thirty two was okay walking out of the infield Medical Center Newman out of the hospital after less than two days recovering from the injuries that he suffered in that wreck deemed non life threatening Matt apartado
NASCAR America Motormouths: Carmichael recaps Daytona 500 Newman crash
"Five Times supercross champion and NBC analysts. Ricky Carmichael had the best seat in the House for that one. He joins US now on motormouth. Ricky I'M GONNA get to bikes in a bit but I wanna ask you about this past weekend you were in Daytona as an honorary official. And I know you've talked about Ryan Newman's wreck on your podcast. You've seen and been a part of crazy accidents even so what were your thoughts. You've taken back by what you saw was and I was glad he's okay. Just incredible the turn of events to see him walking out. Yesterday was definitely special and Man. I was thinking about him. I met Ryan through Kevin Harvick when I was driving for cage. I in two thousand nine and we've kept in touch ever since then. Everybody knows his sense of humor. Is is so fun. He's a great guy to be around so I was really concerned. Hated seeing that. And you know it's just daytona an all racing really. It can happen anywhere so I was concerned but at the same time I was so relieved to see the outcome yesterday. And hopefully he's going to be all good. I now we all breathe a sigh of relief. And you talk about that sense of humor. Sometimes I don't know fans get to see that but yeah he's a very a very funny guy so I'm glad you brought that up those crazy accidents though I talked about you having well. They've been on both lakes and in the NASCAR TRUCK SERIES. You mentioned driving out at number four for hi and back to back years at Daytona. I think two thousand nine and two thousand ten. What were your thoughts? I think you had some some some hits there at Daytona. It and the truck. Of course I of course I did. They weren't they weren't that bad. I was very lucky but I loved racing. They're a loved racing at Daytona whether it was two wheels four wheels. I was really excited to be able to raise four wheels there. Because you know my history there five-time Daytona supercross champ and to to be able to race at Daytona. Four wheels at a pretty high level race. There two thousand and ten. I believe it was so it was special. Just because I'd had so much success here on two wheels to be able to experience that racetrack on four wheels was something that I'll never forget. I'm so grateful for that opportunity but It's fast things happen fast. I always tell people you don't really know how fast you're going until something goes wrong and then when something goes wrong you're like oh man I really. There's a lot of speed here but I applaud NASCAR for what they do in the racetracks and making them as safe as they possibly can be. And that's what I really respect about about NASCAR so you kind of get comforting feeling a little bit when you get in get in those roll cages them race cars a little bit different compared to motorcycles as you know yeah had in my notes xfinity race in Daytona. Two thousand eleven. So yeah you were close but yeah you also know about comebacks to. I think it was a crash in a torn. Acl that kept you out of the two thousand four supercross season. You came back with a perfect run outdoors you want all twenty four motos. Obviously we don't know about Ryan's road to recovery or his future plans but can you talk about the mind of an athlete. What you went through mentally to to come back and then to come back even stronger. Yeah for me. It was. It was almost a blessing in disguise. I mean as you know Chris. I was at it for a while and competing competing at a high level winning championships at a high level. I think that that came at a great time. It kind of put things into perspective. It was a nice break at a four month. Break of just basically re having training doing all that stuff and it gave me the motivation and the the want again that. I wanted to go out there and race and finish out. The last three years of my career came at a perfect time. It wasn't ideal but it really boosted the next three years for me and so if you look at Ryan you know. Everybody knows that. He's strong and he feels like he's not done yet and he hasn't made it left the mark that he wants to racing then. I fully support it. He's very intelligent person. So I know that he'll make the right move and decision that is best for him and his family but he just has to believe in himself believe in himself his team and at the drive is still there then then I'm in support of of his his comeback. And you know anything can happen. You certainly fascinate. Had No reason. He can't be throughout the rest of the season.

tragedies of our time the guys is we might not be able to fish off the pier I have what do I have an opinion on that issue at our member ID where do I have an opinion on this I don't remember if I do I know that the more they run that commercial the more I want to side of the other side just a little maybe over the top I would say overly dramatizing the human atrocity of not being able to fish shop your peer that's your biggest problem in life you may have it you may have a pretty good might be an indication you have too damn much body without regard to where I stand on the issue of Ryan Newman out of the hospital for people to see that crash they have no idea how astonishing Daddy's especially given that I'm telling get ninety percent of people thought he was who we thought he was dead especially when NASCAR nobody really steady information for an hour and a half after the fact I can tell you in horse racing that when they bring out what a horse is injured on the track when they bring out the black screen so the it can't see what's going on behind it that is always bad you know they don't want people to have to see a terribly injured horse and so on so they bring the blacks greed out when they loaded into the ambulance that's bad they brought out the black screen for Ryan Newman I don't know that I've ever seen that a car is maybe they have use those before I just don't recall ever seeing a screen being brought out so that you couldn't see the body being taken out of the car and put into the ambulance I made I just assume that he had to be broken into five pieces or something that you wouldn't see it at he's out of the hospital at you can credit the power of prayer and how the safety of the vehicles they habit just an incredible walking they say they still haven't said what the entries were which means it might be a head injury and maybe he's got memory issues or something or other because they don't want to disclose what happened to a but walking around he doesn't even appear to be marked up did you see the crack everybody's now see the crashes the crash and how long it was on fire and upside diluted very gratified let me move to another story this is from the world of sports kind of fascinating really John B. lied you know he is he was a longtime basketball coach first that I think West Virginia but I might be right about that and for a number of years now at Michigan and very successful it's very hard to move from college to the NBA in coaching it's also hard to move from college football to the NFL I'm not saying it's impossible Brad Stevens of the Celtics that it but they're very different kind of coaching jobs first of all the quality of play in the NBA just towers over the collar quality of play in college basketball many of the skills in college basketball recruiting managing young people very different from the type of coaching in eagle managing that you handle in the NBA and college sports you've got a lot of control over these players in the NBA you don't it's just a different kind of battle anyway beeline desperately wanted to be a pro coach and walked away from that job at Michigan he got a lot of money Cleveland higher to get my five year contract he didn't last a year they fired up because he's under contract to get to get me another job of the organization rather than pay him off for five years but he could class of the players there were allegations of inappropriate use of a racial term that was in there he was frustrated he why did that our practice really hard I think kind of like his old college then you're not played well your practice in the NBA players don't like to practice a lot because the play games all the time didn't last a year it's cautionary wed football teams are basketball teams are out there looking for a coach some of the greatest college coaches after it and not just basketball football addicts save and flopped in the NFL there but others Lou Holtz flock to the NFL in basketball Rick Patino has never read Dever really succeeded in the NBA the way that he had a college the two are very different and it doesn't always translate and finally this we were discussing Bloomberg earlier I wanted to break the story out separately the stories that page one of the Wall Street journal it Natalie indicates how much money Bloomberg has in his campaign it's another reason to distrust the impact of social media on the presidential race undeniably social media has had a tremendous impact especially recently and politics a lot of people are getting information about the candidates on Facebook and Twitter and they're getting it from what's the term influencers people who get all let's imagine I wasn't on the air but people appreciated my knowledge of politics I comment had something in eight other people re tweet me or send it to the other people in the face with a huge thing in politics right now Bloomberg is hiring hundreds and hundreds of people to post about him on social media he's hiring people to post things about him and they will then pass it off is their own actual opinion that we'll be there day in their thing but they're being paid to post pro Bloomberg stuff I don't think you have to pay as trump supporters to say positive things about the job he's doing we're more than happy to do it for nothing now you can argue I being paid to share my opinions here but other than somebody who's got a professional career as a commentator like myself the people that are out there and proud of president trump don't have to go I'm somebody's payroll Bloomberg literally has to pay people to say positive things about himself on social media it's also what indication that he's got so much money to spread the TV and radio advertising doesn't cover he's got so much left over then he could put hundreds of people on the payroll just a post stop passing off Bloomberg's opinions as their own opinions and social media added with the stories in today's wallstreet journal if you want to check it out five twelve news talk eleven thirty W. I. "R. life it's amazing amazing video of Ryan Newman walking out of the hospital like I saw him standing with his two daughters after that crash on Monday and I thought I like how long is he going to be hospitalized I get the feeling that he could race next weekend I still don't know what happened don't even know what the entries are I reached out to work somebody in the NASCAR world last night I said can you help me out with any of these injuries and he said we don't even know but it looked so bad look horrible they brought out the black tarpon I went you don't bring out the black tarp unless something's really really bad and Jeff Gordon was almost moved to tears it felt like but Ryan Newman hold his daughter's hands walking out of the hospital like to say really amazing all right so she can you got something that's guaranteed to have people despise you thanks I do a lot on the show to make it happen anyway I like when sometimes you go go through the mail by cell say something like what I'm about to say and I'll see like I always thought I hated see but now I know I do okay all right give me your premise here well there's just certain bands or artists that our beloved everybody loves this band and I can't or or this artist and I can't really I don't get it I'm gonna I'm gonna guess cold play now go place wonderful well they're they're only wonderful because a radio had in you to which they basically sold by both who I love okay okay yeah I'm in look at Yandle I'm basing this off I think I'm over heard seen say this before and here's the thing I think is a fan of the person who fronts this band as a as of maybe a person and we don't even worry about that I I think Seton thinks that the foo fighters are quite overrated I think I think the foo fighters are extremely overrated yeah they have one great song okay Everlong and then other than that it's so you like role I'll Dave Grohl's awesome in and he's a great drummer out out out out out out how but I don't really get a lot of those songs and like people really like this or is this like a bit hot hot hot hot out okay of the other one is with the one that I think again trouble for Elvis Presley man no but your manner you sniffing right around that Frank Sinatra Frank Sinatra don't get it okay I really had it yeah I really don't I think it's like there must be something about an era or like some place in time but I just don't get why people are like just obsessed with Frank Sinatra I never got it either just on here of I've I've I've actually listen to more Sinatra in the last two months then I probably did in my previous life all my years added up I'm trying to figure it out because I mean he's a wonderful performer there but that whole era there and you know the rat pack and all of them I just kind of go okay we can you imagine somebody like that now let me just with the voice well you do you have Micheal who Blay yellowbullet feels like he can actually sing wow well we are on fire it's Springsteen would say I'm on fire yes well I I think you know if you don't like that style of music but I think it's remember Frank Sinatra was a young very good looking guy and he was at the front a band like Tommy Dorsey's band here James van and he was so handsome on these news reels of these to play that he became a celebrity almost like a break out celeb imagine someone being an ensemble band now and just being that break out person like just into not it's it just interact pretty good at it he was with a bunch other famous people famous musicians but he broke out became a single person and at the time is considered a sex symbol yeah yes we talk about sports nicknames when you're the boss and chairman of the board that's a couple heavy hitters when you look at the musical nicknames yeah that's pretty strong I mean I I I appreciate Sinatra but he's not somebody that I I'm I'm gonna go Hey you know I like to listen to since right by bad to say to myself because my wife will go on what's the Springsteen kick I said I'm I'm trying to like him she goes isn't it late I don't know all it's not too late I'm kind of like that with the Grateful Dead like I I don't get it I don't get the Grateful Dead I don't get it that that's more of a that's an event yeah I got the whole life yeah ideas exactly night I'm not I'm not big on them Grateful Dead would be the band I go I I just don't get the over rated a couple of phone calls Sean in California hi Sean would you have for me today good morning how are you good Sir read on as well and just don't pan out there I thought they were overrated I am tired lack the been advocating my whole life the Red Hot Chili Peppers cannot stand them at all okay yes you I think that's fair I don't know that they've aged well one great album yeah what one sugar sex Magik right on like that that was a great album great album yeah I think the only interesting thing now is Anthony Kiedis is hair like his hair cuts he had that one if you look like a mo from the three Stooges where dissident I love flea and flee as a book out now only he's he's fascinating to me is so interesting to whenever we'll go to Los Angeles a lot and I'll listen to the radio there and it's basically just a rotation of Red Hot Chili Peppers sublime and rise again and like the only three bands that exist in the greater Los Angeles area Richard in California joins is yeah then if any of those haters Bruce haters ever seen him live yeah it's just unbelievable it it just changed my whole outlook on Bruce Springsteen timing his concerts are unbelievable Todd you want to respond I have not seen him live I'm sure he's so I've seen like on TV like very been like never live but that's great that he has you know I'll go to cirque DU soleil what if I want to see the action because I wanna be able to enjoy the music of the close my eyes and appreciated if it somehow becomes better because he's coming in from a trap your your soul misinformed on Springsteen in concert what is what is he doing exactly that's like so amazing his energy any place for four hours sometimes that's the least you can do for a crowd any musicians gonna run around in like a you can pay all that money for a couple hours that you got to like put on a show Nancy what you just said before about how you appreciate the hollows just stand still hygienic shines I'll do but it sounds like there are others you know he sold abroad we freed something for the people that enjoy the the actual I don't need crazy Gaga con is not the answer X. Springsteen just gives you your money's worth what is lady Gaga we're crazy costumes why can't the music to stand on its own well it does she does she does both yeah but that's another one that I don't get crazy costumes not to print a kiss all I was never into care not super now now now because you love them yeah but that that was you know you're in the the kiss army is what you were in a member my brother was actually a member of the kiss army and I would be like he would have his bedroom down the hall and I'd crank Zeppelin down at my end and he'd have kiss in his and I go you know you're going to lose this battle yeah Paul I love foresees philosophy attending a concert so we can close his eyes and listen to music the only reason you know the concerts to see the arrow actually like play your eyes out you should never attend the concert if you're at you're closer the music needs to stand on its own and if you want to add some white around as well why go to the concert why not just listen to their music but I guess just to say you did or to the atmosphere have around fellow people that enjoy that music and that's that's have you been to a concert this century wow I think I'm missing a whole it's like in the early two thousand yes I I'm I saw actually know what I saw Billy Joel and Elton John and the two pianos at the Great Western forum in LA with the Lakers to play in Inglewood both pianos so we come up from the stage and they're facing each other in the plan first of all what year was that I think that was like two thousand three and okay and second of all doesn't Elton John have costumes and isn't about theatrics with Elton John his I I like L. jazz music and if you want to wear like the giant classes and have like sparkly close at all so that he can do it so he can do I'm saying if you're relying on that to saying forget about how not good my music is look at Adam well you're fraud your your fraud Fritz I think the thing that I'm not gonna call you Todd for your fraud customs of the ethics to me is like covering up for you know the essence which is the actual music music should stand on selling scene doesn't have a costume Michael Jackson's music was great the needed but you know I didn't have to do the moonwalk or any of those things but it's certainly enhance the performance at the at the award shows every like I'm not the actual to stand there motionless he would not have a career he was a very good singer and is always very good but his moves or half of the show Allen in New Mexico judges highland when you have ATP good morning you can't just cracked me up on love and the the six one hundred seventy pounds what I call the goes yeah I'm I'm was for it so you know what I grew up in the sixties looking the guys like Black Sabbath and and he lets the plan and cream and then didn't count grand funk and and I never saw any of those guys but I just love the music so with that the visual thing didn't didn't matter in terms of me falling in love with that music but this Bruce Springsteen thing in the I'm a musician and then the seventy dollars when Clinton was totally out of tune with what was going on and then you know later on way down the line when when they had an anniversary celebration here for four nine eleven in two thousand two our country band with we played in the coming right now not Allen I can't okay thank I I I'm gonna take phone calls but it can't be story telling time just get your point here okay but thank you.

"Ryan Newman update and it is great news two days ago Ryan Newman finished the Daytona five hundred on his roof on fire and was taken out of the car behind a a black partition because of the horrific nature of the crash later that night he was reported that Newman was his injuries are not life threatening yesterday Ryan Newman was reported to be joking and talking with doctors in his family to day Ryan Newman walked out of the hospital holding the hands of his two daughters after finishing the Daytona five hundred or a lot of people thought he was either seriously injured or possibly dead that is amazing it's amazing the picture him water hospital hold is two dollars and if you have kids you just look at that and go well I'm not good at and there I I put my credit NASCAR for all the safety improvements they've made in the last fifteen years or so they took it took the safety team they said nearly twenty minutes to remove Newman from his car so obviously they want to make sure they were doing it's you know delicately there's probably all kinds of concerns about spinal issues and all kinds of things like that but great news any look great I mean I shall shocked I'm looking at this picture going back I was in that accident that I just saw two days ago looked it looked home rific it looked like you nobody could ever walk away some amazing these guys wired a little differently memory for him yeah I mean just the fact that he can walk out with his kids it shocked me and it's unbelievable it's shocking some of the accident is gonna get into and they walk away from that thing was I mean you're airborne you get head knocked around and I did that is tough five wars accident ever it was incredible I've ever seen is a I mean I don't wanna watch raising do you see the highlights and stuff which you know with you don't realize how fast these guys are gone because when you see an accident like that and you see an accident that killed they'll learn argue like that killed him I couldn't even look like that big a deal raising a veered me at the wall and that was it and now they came with the Hans device that believe after yes after that okay man but yeah but it was like that and you start thinking well man these guys going like really really really fast so they things that happen to them they don't seem that likely they they can't be that big a deal right like that is one hundred seventy he hit the wall date on it is that at a right angle yep was turned right not only yeah I'm sorry right okay yeah he hit the wall hit on at two one miles an hour okay after he got turned labour bracing for the fish so that was a head on collision to a wall he flips upside down and gets hit well he's upside down in the air smack in the driver's side door buy a nother car that's going to hundred miles an hour then she hits the ground and he slides on fire to a complete stop I'm just saying this for purposes of this discussion I watch more auto racing than anybody in this room five times over that is top five one of the worst crashes I've ever seen and effective that do walk out a hospital today hold these kids hands is it absolute miracle it is a testament to the safety improvements in in in in in all the motor sports been this case NASCAR and and how how well constructed how tough those cars are yeah I was alive as it happened turn it off as soon as it was over because I thought I was going to die now again did you think Earnhardt was you know no because that was of with that was a weird one too because he was like his car took a sharp right on a left turn right into the wall and it was not a long a long run for him into that wall yeah I mean but it was clear that what is his system it's simple physics you can you can be going to fasten the stop the quickly not the energy you got to go somewhere right I don't you want to go to a miles an hour on the autobahn okay I think about myself to you yeah I just I can't imagine ever get the Honda pilot going up to ninety two I just told me about I but over a hundred a couple times and in love it but I want to see my if I would do they give me and I stick a by the way so that they don't do that anymore I don't have the card to do it anymore but I have no interest going that fast I don't know that I'd like to be on the autobahn maybe but I don't I certainly don't go that fast with other dudes inches from a third and I know the maniacs around to doing the exact same knoll then the nerves those guys have I can't even imagine the nurse that those guys have because any minute do you can get hit and all takes a little some going to going to miles an hour and you're doing that and that just did not build a focus on that and not think about that and I and I know look I do talk about it like I would I don't wanna get the batter's box with a ninety miles an hour minutes scare the hell out of me even though these guys all have pretty good control but that's their job that's what they do so it's not that big a deal to them any everything you get used to avert your job and you love it that your passion if you don't think about that stuff but when I'm watching it in the which isn't a lot I always think about them like dang is he has gone closer miles an hour it didn't seem like that Basque there is going to a miles an hour as a muzzle you fifty Jinsei did he do it is a business don't context we realize god the going that fast in the regions each other and they got to make moves they got a draft and they got to get by these guys they got all my god just like I I I'd be like I did when I lived again is on believable I lived again here's what's truly bananas about it doing that for living in getting into a car and doing that is one thing and that's that is to me extraordinary that humans I yeah you know what I'm gonna do that do that for them god bless you but after an accident like that it Ryan Newman has not spoken is really really really good chance he's going to continue his racing career after all of that he get back into a race car do the exact same thing all over again until he decides he did want to or can't do it anymore I've I'm get he hasn't spoken maybe I am you know court danger here for so much we do for someone who I don't know the race car drivers are just kind of different people this is what they do that if you survive that kind of accident and go this is why in this what I wanna do you wanna do it again that's I mean they're daredevil that's close I mean you saw whatever Ricky Bobby I mean that.

"For from Ryan Newman here this is what a sound alike if you do get a chance to watch it this was from the fox broadcast last night final time later this is yeah he we it looks similar to Dale Earnhardt's crash in two thousand one I had that same feeling man because nobody was buying anything normally if a driver is moving in the car somebody will say he's alert he's being taken to a Medical Center or they will show you them pulling the driver out of the car loading him into the ambulance they put up the black tarps at the park at the race track last night and we were all on pins and needles for a couple of hours I know I was refreshing Twitter like every couple of minutes trying to find an update and ultimately Steve o'donnell who is the vice president of NASCAR gave the initial update Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center is in serious condition but doctors have indicated his injuries are non life threatening but at this time our thoughts are with Ryan in this family thank you for but you're right man and have that earn heart feel to it the lack of information that was coming out the look on Jeff Gordon's face at the end of that broadcast he looked like he'd seen a ghost he was pale white Ryan Newman produce guy from south bend yeah needs a Hoosier and he his name is rocket man actually general Ryan Newman's nickname is a rocket man glad he is OK to hear the words non life threatening injuries was a huge relief but yeah boy I I was like I can and then on the net so you know I'm literally on my knees saying a prayer for Ryan Newman all my worries about the beds and stupid money then placed on this NASCAR race went way out the window did not care about that anymore and and thank god he's at a family couple daughters and hopefully we'll we'll see him out there again very soon and I won money with Denny Hamlin really frost over and won the race all but I didn't want to celebrate I could not great because I just wanted to know what was going on with Ryan Newman and a lot of people were getting Denny Hamlin crap at the end of that race because after he finds out he wins he goes and starts doing doughnuts he's celebrating I don't think he knew the severity of the crash take a listen to the crowd as they start to boot Denny Hamlin during his celebration here Denny Hamlin who has won the Daytona five hundred for the second year.

"Saying it would separate families it's amazing that NASCAR driver Ryan Newman has survived a fiery end of the race crash at the Daytona five hundred you had to be extricated from the wreckage Denny Hamlin won the race last night you never more than fifteen minutes away from today's top stories are the result is news station KTAR news so are a very large back with the okay TA are you can track me on Twitter at very marks in one don't miss out of give away prizes every hour no I'm just I'm just kidding no prizes you can follow me on at very marked the one over at the Twitter Hey this is a I mean I've got kids I've got two kids in high school this is a this is something that I didn't think about when my kids were in elementary school going to the same school but as they got older and were different schools and I saw this with a lot of friends of mine as I got older the the spring and fall break thing became an issue because sometimes some schools have different thanks right I mean is if they all do every school district has a different break the colleges and universities have a different break we've got this coming up now I've got a son is gonna go off to university next year if you radically there his his spring break will be different than my other son who's still in high school well there's a solution for this coming and a potentially in this in the Arizona legislature right now worn Peterson speaker of the house he is of the leader of the Republicans he has a proposed a bill that would require the board of regents and the department of education to the board of regents over the university's department of education over K. through twelve public schools it would require that they get together and set fall and spring break's over one week to Arizona would have a uniform fall break a uniform spring break that would cover all the universities would cover all the public schools and I soon it would also cover charter schools which really are public schools it it wouldn't be required the private schools submit to this but they can and it's you know your first look at this you think of this is this is brilliant right like why not do this is gonna make a lot more convenient for families and warm Peterson says I think he's as I think back to my childhood some of my most memorable moments were on vacation with my family he's absolutely right about that and he says that it why can't that why can't we do this at our families with kids in college can vacation with their kids and I I agree I mean he's in that respect he is I absolutely agree this is something that you look at and say this almost makes too much sense why is it taking us so long to do this now he says he hasn't heard any negative feedback to the bill yet but he has a call coming in a call came in from lake Havasu would be as a reached out to them yet and lake Havasu may say well look we make a ton of our revenue for the year over spring break the cavs who is a world famous spring break haven were a lot of university kids go college kids go there and even some high school kids and party over spring break and they do better when it's spread out right like their best ways that they got a week first week of March second I mean they can spread it out through the month five weeks they're making a bunch of money they're filling the house both the reading the house bill total whatever they have they're everybody is making money and if you change the spring break if you change spring break to say we're all going to be on the second week of March now what does that do lake Havasu right what does that do to the ski resort to snowball and and and summarize what is that due to other vacation areas around the state which may have benefited from spring break or fall break being spread out and now being all in one week and is it really something we want his parents because it's going to drive costs up looks like you like going to lay cabs you get a house boat for for one of these for spring break well the cost of that house book boat which is already crazy expensive about to be jacked up considerably right because they're only gonna have one week to do it the demand is going to be incredibly high the supplies gonna remain the same what do you would on a rocky point right a lot of people go to rocky point for spring break because they're already very expensive for spring break rocky point folks the full full of condos down there they make a lot of money running those condos over spring break what if they're limited only doing that for one week so you may start to hear some negative things about that it's an interesting balance but I will say I mean it's it's for you if you think about it it would be kind of nice to know that your kids if you look at a private school things might be different but for the vast majority of people in Arizona who attend public schools the public universities I did say that your brakes are always going to be on the same week we may find some negatives what about that what if you're planning to go on a rocky point this spring break and but not all spring break to the same so you've got like you can you can book it things are available might be expensive but you can book it but what if everybody goes at the same time there are that many condos dollars now what happens now you can go right your plans are screwed up your friends are going to to book fast enough you can't go or the cost is now tripled what do you do with that so that it that it's as with anything you make a change it looks like it makes sense on paper and then you actually get into the real what ifs about it and it might not be as good as you think it is but I like the idea I like the idea of what Warren Peters is trying to accomplish here I have an analogy so when I was in high school we had for lunch periods a B. C. and D. because I went to such a big high school with like fifteen hundred kids in my class alone so you had to do for different lunch periods because there wasn't enough places to said or anything like that one day we it was testing day standardized testing day and they made everyone go to lunch at the same time right what happens there's no where to sit they ran out of food very quickly I mean that's kind of what we're dealing with right right lines are too long not everybody gets to go on your right it's it's it's exactly right might it's funny you say that in high school my kids did that their high school changed to one lunch period for the whole school and the reason they did it was because they want to be able have club meetings and other things happen during the day and they couldn't do it because some kids one lunch and some kids work so we put it all together but exactly what happened none of seating line too long in the cafeteria if it becomes a mess and that's what might happen here it looks good on paper you might say as long as you're not going somewhere in Arizona it may not be that big a deal right if you're gonna go to Disneyland or something or or San Diego or some like that for spring break it is gonna affect you that much but if you're going to places were Arizonans go in bulk for spring break Lee cabins to to the ski resorts to rocky point those are gonna become for many people and impossible option you won't be able to pull that off so interesting idea we'll see what happens as goes to the legislature I'm curious to see what they do it with the governor does with it but certainly one of those things we are looking at it saying well that makes too much sense why have we done that yet so deformed Peterson try to come up with some new ideas Hey we had truck Coughlin on earlier talk about this and I want to go back to it it's the uber lift discussion over at sky harbor airport more people weighing in now you know where we are the city of Phoenix wants to put an additional fee on loop over and lift pick ups and drop offs there's a lawsuit pending that the Attorney General had to file now the latest a teacher is winning in a legislator down there he just did a bill it passed through committee yesterday were to tell you what it is when asked questions about why it's necessary and really why are we why are we picking and choosing winners and losers down the legislature with this seems like a city issued us we'll talk about that next right now get an update on news and come back with more the big program I'm very marks in its.

J. Oshie and not enough capitals lose the Vegas golden knights three to two position players and try to get a quote of the day yesterday from one sort or says he's in Florida make the team yeah I think he's beheaded David Martinez I like that is thinking that way I really I mean we talk about complacency and when he makes comments like that I know I know where he's at now that's a good thing with that being said play you know he's going to play left field you will definitely play landfill Maryland is now one eight straight games are home tonight to get sort of western they moved up to number seven in the rankings on the men's side you know what the women are also ranked number seven good days in College Park Dave Johnson WTOP sports night Dave thanks in coming up teen accused of killing his mom and brother will soon return to Virginia and they can clarity it's eight seventeen we've got all the news right I'm a stop you right there I see you about to settle on a Dale Doane up for breakfast well this is a check intervention because me chicken biscuits and chicken McReynolds so just drive through and change your life for breakfast wake.

"Forty five powered by Red River technology decisions aren't black and white thank read it is eleven fifteen on WTOP you're here is rob what for alright tell the Daytona five hundred was delayed a day by rain interrupted several times by crashes but Denny Hamlin came away with a second straight win in the great American race is third in the last five years he edged out Ryan Blaney in an overtime finish that goes down as the second closest in the history of the race it's also the second straight win for Joe Gibbs racing and gives himself was rather apologetic for his team's on wedding celebration of the big win while Ryan Newman was still being extricated from his car following a terrifying crash on the final lap when everything have moved out of the race I knew that there was a race but I never even focused over there I was focusing on our car and everybody stars celebrating that around this I say to everybody out there some people may have sauces several these guys are celebrating when there's a serious issue going on so hopefully I apologize there by but we really didn't know we got no winner circle and then that's when people told us later on the winner's circle and I think we all know gives in this town well enough to know that to be the case we later found out Newman is in the hospital in serious condition with non life threatening injuries so sort of a positive outlook there from Newman fortunately the capitals couldn't overcome an early three oh hole in Las Vegas they fall to the golden knights three to two it to our cap their three game road trip with a second straight loss T. J. Oshie scored both goals for the caps in the third period but the team just eleven and eleven since December twenty third they've actually drop now of five of their last seven games Alex vets can held without a point for the fifth straight game that is his longest droughts of the season rob would fork WTOP sports can't criticize Joe Gibbs I mean when the classes accident all sports at very classy yes absolutely I he says he didn't see it he didn't see it eleven seventeen it may not be stomach issues for me it's intense gas or pain or diarrhea sometimes all at once over and over I.

"Saying goes sometimes it's better to be lucky than good A. "I'm gonna go with Ryan Newman. Because. If you were paying attention, he got a punch eleven times by Clinton, the I don't know. I'm just going to assume that they did land. But, you know, he he got out of the car and everybody else watching thought it was fantastic. I mean, I know whenever there's fisticuffs, it just adds to the drama of the night. And it was just came out of nowhere because I don't think any of us were expecting it. But yeah, you never want somebody to come to your driver's side window and just start throwing haymakers. So that was probably not a great time for little room in this. Michael Waltrip in lake speed at Michigan speed was in the car. The car. That would different Michaels has a foot in the lot of reach lake reach Michael was standing in the middle of pit road reached over there. He wasn't even close to the car. All right cow. Give us your second good times, second good times. You don't what I honestly, I think my second, good times is going to be the store hosting. I think they think there's some speed there. I think they may have turned a little bit of a corner, you talk about. We were talking about Kevin Kansas, Kevin here having the fastest car at think that might be we've talked Penske organization. We've talked. Pinski we've talked Gibbs organization. Maybe this is a group that stepping into that realm right now the stepped up a little bit. So I think I sell some stuff or you could see the direction that they seem to be headed in a little bit. So I, I think Danny soya's did a good job. I know he spun himself trying to beat Bubba there at the end. But at the same time, I thought Daniel did a good job searching trying to figure out a way around him searching doing some stuff. I thought they had some solid races. All right. Alexa, sure second good time. My second good time is not a driver. It's Charlotte speedway. And the reason why I'm giving my good time to Charlotte Motor Speedway. Obviously, it was a fantastic event. Everybody was entertained, and everybody enjoyed it, but a specifically for one improvement that they implemented that we saw workout really well on Saturday night. And that's the astroturf I think a lot of cars went spinning through there, and we're able to continue on for the rest of the evening where, you know, years pass, if they would hit the grass, they would that split. They would have been tore up their night would have been over. So there was a lot of praise for Charlotte Motor Speedway after the race for putting that down. And I think even Steve O'Donnell said on siriusxm NASCAR radio that they may look at going to that at other tracks as long as it's feasible. So thank you just took away. One of my green. Fly black flags star. Here's what I'm going to say. Here's what I'm going to say. I do agree from a safety standpoint. Then the astroturf is huge huge stumps up. Huge sums up. But I'm sorry, it's kind of like playing golf. They call a sand trap hazard. You shouldn't be okay if you're in there you should have to pay some penalty for being in that hazard. Okay, if you're out in the grass, you should have to pay some penalty for being out the grass because you're not supposed to be out in the grass. For jaywalking, though, what capital? Yeah. Wouldn't J Rey fach? Is that what you're? Punishment the losing of running order and all that does not go just oh, school enough for us. There's asphalt and there's grass. But if we wanna play this from a safety perspective, it is huge. It is huge. Because it keeps those cars from digging keeps those cars from flipping if we go back to daytonas and some of those places where we saw remember when. I don't know retired. What was his name? Carl Edwards, Debbie Macron efforts was doing his burnout dug in just towards the front after the race. You know what I mean?.
