"Fourth floor. We had no windows in our apartment, just one little slide door that let out to the balcony. And even with the balcony door open, it was just like that hot mugginess like that soup air, just like slapping you in the face. Basically there was no relief. And I just remember all of us just like sweating. So Ryan had these AC units, which weren't even really AC units. There were more like fans that you put these little ice cubes in. He tried his best though. I will say he tried his best, but I do remember unpacking late at night. We got there at close to probably like 11 o'clock at night after driving four days in a row. And I just remember Ryan's mom and dad were there in the apartment and I started bawling my eyes out and his mom comes over and gives me a hug. She's like, what's wrong? I'm like, we just throw all the way across country. I'm starving. I am so tired. My dog is going to be sweating. And we have no AC. So I will tell you guys this, if you are apartment hunting, whether it is temporary or for like a year, make sure that place has AC units, or good ventilation, like Windows, because if not, and it's the summertime, you're gonna be sweating your balls off and it is not fun. It took a couple of days when we finally got the proper one in there. It took a couple days to cool off the apartment and even then we still every morning opened up the door to let even more fresh air into try to get as cold as possible. Before we left for the field and for the game. Speaking of the it unpacking and traveling, we ended up hopping on an airplane. And by we, it was myself, Ryan's mom, and Ryan's dad. We hopped on an early morning flight to Texas. So Ryan had a baseball series in sugarland, Texas. It was my first time ever going to the state. He was actually playing the triple-A Houston Astros team. And what I loved about it was I got to meet up with my good friend, Jess McCain, France. You guys know her from MTV's the real world. Twenty five minutes away but like the distance. How long did you go without seeing your mom inside her house. I mean my kids just went in my mom's house for the first time in a year. It was actually over a year just and had like a sad garage christmas at christmas. We sat in her garage outside. See that was sad. It's better than nothing more than a lot of people got to do. But i mean that. Normally for christmas. My mom i mean she was. That was really hard for me. Because she you know like i think. She considers me as part of her pod. But i was like sorry. You're not in my pod. Like i have my hot. I have my people that i'm seeing because what's best for my family the day to day day to day business and that was i mean. I'm happy that my mom and ryan's mom and you know everybody that are extended family was able to respect that because it was really hard to be like. "Moore Czako. She is the founder of the From Project and we're going to be talking about the third annual riots Memorial ride. It's coming up. Sunday, February 21st So welcome. Thank you so much for being on the show, and I'd like you to begin with the reason you started the from Project. I thank you for having made a the from Project F ROM means forever. Ryan's mom and how that started is Two years ago in December of 2018. I lost my youngest son, Ryan to an overdose, and it was a life changer. Completely changes your life. So at the time when he passed, I didn't know one other person that had lost a child to an overdose. So as I was moving Forward day by day and I grief I wasn't quite sure. What I needed. Help myself or to to breathe every day in my life. So the only Avenue I found to get support was online. So in my research online and joining every online grief support group I can find the one common thread was that Moms were hurting so deeply other moms who wants a child to an overdose. Our biggest fear for most is that our child will be for gotten Every we all say that because in most cases within a month of the funeral, people disappear, they wander away. So I felt such Uh, like I was compelled to help the moms. What can I do? How can I offer support to them? In my own grief. So how the front project started was less than four months after I lost Ryan, I Created a handmade card, and I sent it to another grieving mom that I had met online, and it was just a simple card and in the card, I wrote her daughter's name that had passed. And I wanted her to have something tangible that she could touch and see her child's name that her child was not forgotten that I was there too. Remember her child? And it started with one card. And the impact of that and how she felt about it. And it was just one simple gesture that I didn't know where was going to do, but it made me feel better. So I kind of thought about it, and it evolved. Over time. Maybe I started this interview, sounding kind of formal and everything, but I've known you quite a while. Mary Beth and you know to this day, you know my condolences air with you about Ryan and I know then it's It's so difficult and this has been really a difficult month for you. And you know, I'm sure sending the cards is part of feeling that connection of you want him remembered. I want It's how the name came about was at his memorial service. I think I said for the first time I am forever Ryan's mom just because My child isn't with me Physically, that wasn't going to take away from me being a mom or me having a child. So through my grief, it was the same kind of connection. That I felt with other braving moms, and it has to be specific is what I found out because of Mom who lost a child, too, saying illness. Suffers differently than Uh, health illness suffers differently than a mom who loses a child to a substance use disorder or overdose, And you can say things Differently, and there's things you don't have to say that go unspoken when you've made another mom that suffered the same thing. So the front project is It starts off with the car, usually And then in the cards, they're all personalized and I put in a little short story of Ryan in it. Is my purposes. I don't want any other mom to feel alone. No one should feel alone in their grief journey. They need support. So what we offer? I shouldn't say Wait because it's may But I have for support Encouragement. Resource is anything I can to help other grieving moms in the same situation that I am? How did you discover the first mom let alone the mini that followed? How do you How did you reach out and connect? First mom was interesting. I had Just got a memorial tattoo for my son and I posted it online and I tagged the artist who did it and the mom saw my tag, too, and then reached out to me, saying she knew the artist and then shared the story of her daughter. So she found me and with sending cards. I don't look for the parents to send to them. I don't go. Um, digging for information at this point, they find me It hasn't even been two years since the from project has launched. I think I did. My lunch date is April 1st 2019, which I know Ryan would get a kick out of April Fool's Day, But parents find me through Internet searches My page on Facebook. I chose to make it a public page. Which Took a lot of thought, because a lot of grief support pages are private. Which they should be. But I found that my friends needed a way to understand how I was coping What I was going through. When a group is private. There's no way for Our friends and family to understand the information. You know the mood swings what we're going through the They All that grief, brain and tails. So it is the public page and I've had positive feedback from that, and I'm glad I started that way. We should tell people that they can email you at the from Project at gmail dot com and want to talk now about the ride, which is taking place on the 21st. This is the third annual Ryan's Memorial Fried, remembering Ryan and all those lost to a substance use disorder and overdose. The registration is suggested. But you're at the point now where people could just come. Absolutely at this point. Where encouraging people just tol. Um that day. It is a motorcycle ride, but you don't have to have motorcycle to come and participate in the day. Luckily, we have the support of the American Legion Post, 10 and Kasumi. So the ride will leave from there before the ride leaves. That's what we'll take registration. There's a breakfast that will be available for a donation. The ride is police escorted Which is wonderful. It's better. 90 Mile police escorted ride. So It means it's.

Performing live music during a pandemic requires you to really get creative musicians have been utilizing video chats and everything else doing what they can to try to get in front of their audience. WBC stream. Oh, Holland was able to speak to a man who has been part of the folk scene for decades. Tom Rush, you might know him from his 1968 hit no regrets. Well, Tom lives in Rockport, and Drew was able to talk to him about what performing looks like now and what it could look like in the future. I singer songwriter Ryan Mom, Clue said to me once it was the first one to say this to me. He had to tell the family members toe stop doing the clapping during the virtual performances because it reminded him too much of a sad bar. It was kind of like depressing E did a show at the Wang Center. With Noel, Paul Stookey and Jonathan Edwards, just the three of us in an empty hall, and it's like the 3500 C room, gorgeous place, but my comment there was it actually feels good to see all those empty seats and no, it's not my fault. That is fantastic. That's a great either way. Just as a little, uh, side note here. I would emerging everybody to support their local performing arts venues every way they can, because my concern is that You know, the pandemic will someday be over, But some of these places will be gone and that will be that would be very, very sad. It's nice of you to say, and it's so true. And you know, you're you're an established musician, and I have been saying that for the ones that The kind of like the young artist that had some momentum going and it was really trying to break onto the scene. I just found it to be devastating for some of those artists. I'm sure you remember that coming up and people were starting to kind of catch on to your music, and you were starting to gain a fan base. And I can imagine we'd probably think about those young artists a lot how tough this has been on them. Well, I do have bean have somehow gotten a reputation is being a patron saint of up and coming artists and I, you know my Was an album. I did way back when called the Circle game, which was the first recordings of James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell. And it really, I think caused a bit of a stir because these three fabulous writers were all introduced on one project right now I'm working with a guy named Met Nicola. Who was a monster talent and I'm I'm trying to promote his career to mind. No own detriment. I will miss him terribly when he moves on. But my hope my hope is My hope is that when he's playing stadiums, I get to open the show's Wow. Very cool. Well, that well, That's a good plan. Hey, listen, we all can't wait till we get back into stadiums. Right? That would be a treat. That would be a treat. What has been the toughest part about the pandemic for you? You got I see you got guitars serve. You're surrounded by guitars in your host there. I'm sure that keeps you busy. But do you genuinely miss the interaction with your fans of that person, a person?
