"Hundred rolls on. Here's your host. Ryan kobe. Snowflake tweeting. All right. Mike crew was on the morning show. We'll get to that in just a moment. Ricky and Belmont. Those got a quick story for his Ricky on kmby are far away. Rickie? It's your time to shine. How's it going? So you're talking about smoking with celebrities, and I just couldn't believe that. 'cause I smoked by Jews celebrities, whatever in my life in one of them. Limbs back in the nineties this up. Just incredible. I mean, I listen to you when I drive home and tons of stuff that I feel like holy crap. I can't believe you just said that exchange that so great. It's a great, listen, you know, the drive home to and I just thought it was hilarious that. Well, we have a connection with. Eastbound artists that we've smoked with. That's awesome. Hey, where so you're coming home from work right now. Yeah. Just got home. Yep. What's that? What do you work? I'm. Working at a hospital. Late shift. You know? Well, hey, I gotta tell you Ricky like, you're exactly who we want this show to be four man people working late night grinding just trying to, you know, get by make that money. Make that ends meet and hopefully, we can entertain you a little bit, man. So that's dope. I appreciate you checking in hey, man, we got high with ECOWAS that's pretty sweet. Anyway, one last thing did you catch on the news about a week or so ago where somebody found? Your of the Menendez brothers back and killed their parents. Yeah. So. Apparently between the time that they got their insurance money and the police talk to him about a six months spending spree. They went out spend all kinds of cash. Yeah. Right. So somebody found a Mark Jackson basketball court. I don't know what top two what brand with to Menendez brothers front row at a Knicks game. Oh, man. Mark Jackson basketball court. On ninety three or whatever you want. We'll investigate. All right. That's crazy, man. All right. Good stuff. Ricky check at any time. Brought to have a great night. Okay. Oh, dude. Mark jackson. Well, let's look that up. That's crazy, man. I know Jags where he spent whenever people get into storytime on the late night hand on the dump button. Dude, you like, I don't know where this is going then we're talking about people that killed their parents. But he was okay. When he mentioned the Menendez brothers man anyway, right to the Dave. And you know, we've worked together long enough to know the look, right. It really seems like when we look awesome. Take off wearing. I mean that was that was the only way you could talk. Menendez brothers and make a funny story out of it. And that is priceless. I could just see sitting courtside. So here we go. I just googled it. Menendez brothers. There is a card. Menendez brothers. Oh my God. They're they are prowling Eric sitting courtside on a Mark Jackson basketball card at a Knicks game. Dude sitting courtside, dude. It's it. That's it. Those are the Menendez brothers. Gotta shout out Ricky in Belmont. Thanks, brother. Nice job rookie. I'm looking at it right now. It is a Mark Jackson. Let's see it says NBA. Oops. Let's see who makes this is just like an NBA card sin official NBA basketball cards. So the property of the NBA tops or anything. But yeah is in an eighty nine ninety basketball card. Mark jackson. There you go, dude. That's pretty crazy. All right. Yeah. Yeah. Hopefully, hopefully, those guys are enjoying prison. Nice job, murdering your parents, dude. All right earlier today. Mike Ruko now is yesterday because you know, I'm on at one in the morning early here yesterday. Murph and MAC, they spoke with my crew co as they do a couple times a week here on the sports leader and Mike was talking about Peter McGowan. So we're just going to pick it up kinda mid interview. While they said, you know, good morning group and everything and then we'll just take it away. Go ahead might it's a really tough time for all of us. And I'm not talking about just all of us in the giants organization because Peter affected everybody in the area. Everybody who who love baseball. Everybody loves San Francisco. She affected us in a positive way. And so I'm processing, and I think if you knew where he was physically last year and. How difficult it was for him. I mean, you anticipated this day was coming but still. Star was so bright. You just didn't think it was ever going to stop. And now there has it. It's been impactful. I loved Peter McGowan I loved him. He was a true visionary. He was a gentleman throughout his whole life. And and what I see. Visionary. He saw he saw possibilities, and he had the intelligence and he had the drive to go get them done. I mean, remember talking with Larry Baer this morning. He was laughing. He says, you know, they couldn't he couldn't get together. Grouped by the team. There was a negative surrounding him. Then that he couldn't get it done. And and yet he did. And then and then he started the painstaking process to develop political relationships to to get a positive affirmation that did the ballpark db said he was going to do it three dressed up candlestick. You couldn't make it any better. But he did he made it our place and he never apologized for and any kind of ballpark building. I mean, there were so many things along the way that he did that he brought us in. And we just kind of were an off of how he was going to do these things and he did and. And in the process, he met all of our lives better. And. And I think I be a lot of people when I say that I loved them, man. I stand proud, and I said. I think he's a guy that was so unique in so many ways so special in so many ways that you will always be remembered and positive way important because that's what he was all about. He was about the giants about about San Francisco Bay area. About the giants. Imaging New York. I mean, he bridge that gap. Think about that. It's almost as he left New York as a kid growing up rooting for the giants came west. It figured out a way to go back and bring that group of of giants fans that were left behind. He brought them back into the fold. He did so many things. And and so that I I'll be eternally grateful, and the fact that I was a part of it. And and I got to watch him, and and we got to have dinners and celebrate the days of victories, and it was just. It's a tough time process. But what a wonderful man, he really is. I was lucky enough to do the fifty yearbook thanks to him. He he and Blake roads pick me to do this fifty year book, and I picked picked it up last night and looked at it again because they did such a great job. It's gorgeous. But one of the things that one of the interviews. I did was with Hank Greenwald. And who another guy we lost? We lost a mama Covey Greenwald. Mcgowan cheese, but he said Mike this was in. Oh, seven in the book. He said there should be a statue of Peter McGowan outside of packbell park. That's how that's how impactful he was like leading ES Willie Mays. Yes, Willie McCovey. Yes. Peter mcgowan. Why s Larry Baer that question this morning? Are we gonna put a statue throw ballpark for forum? Larry surprises. He doesn't let the cat out of the beggar. But just the way he he responded. I mean, I think it's gonna get done. But you're right. He deserves it. He deserves it. Me think about. He kept the team there. When he was elected to obey hall of fame in November. I was asked to present them and the way I started the whole the whole night was I had everybody stand up sing take me out to ballgame that everybody did it was rockets, and that was fun. And then when they all sat down, I should think about this wasn't for Peter McGowan that song doesn't get some in San Francisco after nineteen ninety two. That was powerful. Is a powerful thing as much as we like our baseball as much as the history of the Pacific coast league was so rich and baseball was was loved in in the bay area. It was almost taken from us. And you know, he kept up from happening. And and. Yes. You should have a statute. I mean to me you could put it right in the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge. I mean, he could be anywhere in San Francisco. I mean, that's that's how much of an impact he made a my life. And I think all of a sudden the same thing. But yeah, statu I'm in I seriously. I remember when I mean, literally, this was two thousand and again when when I heard that and I was like there, right? Because it's it's and we talked about all day yesterday. This is this is this was a life that impacted in the great city of San Francisco one hundred and seventy years of post gold rush settlement here, and you can put them on the shortlist in the last fifty years or the most because my whole neighborhood down there you live down there during the season that was in one thousand nine hundred ninety three or when they took over the team. There was no nothing. I mean old warehouses and a couple of old shops. I don't know. But nobody went down now UCSF Benny off hospital world-class hospital Joe lake upset. Hey, I like it down there. I'm gonna move my warriors. They're all those condos that you. And everybody lives in down there. My grabbing part of the city now, nobody even knew the best weather in San Francisco is on the east side, right? Exactly, it was an industrial wasteland. You wouldn't go down there. And you're gonna get fined by the league. But now, it's it's one of the most desirable places in in all of San Francisco. So the guy do so many things like that. But I mean to me I mean, it was it was he and his wife Debbie that after a game in a tough game. And in Miami. Who were you know, let's go have dinner. Well, it's midnight. Not a problem. Let's go and we go there. And then we tell stories, and you know, he was a great storyteller. And and he would always have stories about the New York Giants and how they were so comparable to the San Francisco Giants, and and he would tell stories we would tell stories it was wonderful nights. And you'll learn something this morning was so significant you said he saw Peter last weekend. And he was sharp as attack all the way to the end alerts that he was a piece in one of the things that Peter said to Larry was, you know, all of us in the ownership group. We're loved by the giants fan. You know, not every owner in special sports. Say what our guys can. And it's because they kept the giants here. They kept that history here. I I don't call them investors. I call this story because they stepped forward to to to keep this great legacy program here and. It it just the things that I'm gonna miss miss those those moments when we're at the ballpark any he always did this even towards the last time I ever saw him walk into a ballpark. He lit up like a kid like a kid. It was more than a twinkle in his eye. He just couldn't stand still. He was so happy to be in in the ballpark in his ballpark. He come into the booth with Skype, and John and David and and. It would always be a conversation. But it was always beat a little smile that. He had brought us in it. And it really when he would leave. We look each other. These days regretted one not ever and Peter. We got to see the ballpark his eyes again. And it was always that same way. It was magical. Yeah. And the name Willie Mays, of course, everybody knows Willie Mays and how important he is to the great game of baseball. But Peter McGowan made sure that there is a whole millennium. Now that walks past a gorgeous statue, what are the prettiest pieces are in the entire city. He's at our address is going to be you want to send us a letter. You're sending it to twenty four Willie Mays plaza. And there's twenty four palm trees, and that was Peter because of his New York, and plus how many times have all of us said, hey, meet me at the Mesa. Am I just real you can offer your thoughts? But here's the maze quote to John shea. Shea shade has a good thing with maize Willie told him. He and Debbie cared about me. And it was so easy to care about them. In return. It's hard to find the right words just now. But in losing, Peter..

"NPR tonight. Your host Ryan Kobe. Turn to Mike Brown yesterday. Were Paul's being kept up to start the game. Go starting five. Stop real is it we just added this guy. We just added it all NBA all star center to to what was already a great roster. I believe the phrases embarrassment of riches. All right warriors. Celtics dubs and sees from Boston tomorrow night. You're going to be a fun game. I'll be on countdown to tip into the warriors. And the Celtics in the Steve Kerr era. They've actually played some pretty intriguing basketball. The Celtics play them tough first season under Steve Kerr warriors got him a couple of times, but it was too close games. One fourteen to one eleven and then one oh six one a one year two to seventy three win season. They played two very intriguing games. I it was at Boston on December eleventh in the warriors ended up winning that game in overtime one twenty four to one nineteen on that night. The warriors improved to twenty four no expanding on the greatest start in NBA history. But the next night the bucks blew him out. And a lot of folks look to the game the night before going the distance against Boston the way they did and having to play back to back with all that travel. As one of the main reasons why the warriors ended up taking that L in Milwaukee. And then you fast forward to April first of that same season. Warriors were thirty six zero at home going into that game. They were on the quest for seventy all that good stuff. And we're thinking, hey, are the Golden State Warriors gonna go undefeated at oracle? They had lost a game at home and oracle in fourteen months. And there was the Boston Celtics breaking that streak and beating the warriors one oh nine one zero six and then twenty sixteen thousand seventeen warriors one at home and then excuse me in Boston. And then Boston beat the warriors in Oakland ninety nine eighty six. I remember that game. Whereas only scored twelve points in the fourth quarter of that game. Think they only hit like six threes. And then last year Celtics beat the warriors in oracle again ninety two eighty eight. I mean, look at these defensive totals in a couple of these games. I mean, the the eighty six points, eight points. I mean, Celtics, they can defend the words they not to play against him. And then earlier the other game they played last year. Warriors beat the Celtics one zero nine one zero five I remember correctly curry went off in that game within curry. I'd like forty nine points in that game. Are you shaking your head? Yes, you're a member wrath your remember that game. Like it was yesterday. I was there you were there. Yeah. You live. I'm pretty sure. Yeah. Curry hit the tunnel shot right in front of you. And then I handed him the ball. All right fair enough. I love raff. Did you see you see this is I know where you get this? You've been producing for mardi for so long that you're just trained to look whoever's hosting the show in the eye whoever you're producing for and just give them that nod. Like, yeah, you're on a baby. Yes, sir. You just preach dog. Preach. I can't help advance been fifteen years. Right. That by the way. Rask guy, Marty Lurie gonna join us at eleven thirty eleven thirty would learn baby as we get you ready for fan fest, which is two weeks from tomorrow. Let's go baby. It's time that means Marty's coming back to spring training. But the good thing is he's in Arizona. So we ease into the actual broadcast bomb ready. I'm ready for mardi to be back now. Now he has to. Yeah. I kind of a little concerned about whether the giants are going to be winners of seventy games this year. But. A lot of ifs. We shall see. All right, one more from Steve Kerr. And this is interesting because remember when LeBron in Bosch went to Miami. And that was kind of Dwayne Wade squad. He had won the title was shocked that year and LeBron hadn't won diddly poo and then egos to to Miami. And they kind of power team up. I remember in the beginning. You know, they lost that first year. They didn't win the title. And I think D Wade was the MVP of the league that year, and it took them a little while to find their way. Now, they ended up hitting their stride after that. But that first year not everything clicked different here with the warriors. Because these guys have already done plenty of winning. You know, they've already got three NBA titles in four years. You're not looking at DeMarcus cousins to fix anything. You're looking at DeMarcus cousins to add to what is already something special. So little bit apples and oranges. But they were asked excuse me Kerr was asked by by John Lund about any comparisons between Wade LeBron Bosh meshing versus what we have now. With the dubs. It's not like when you know. Wade and LeBron and Bosch got together Miami, they hit it took took him a full year to figure it out like our guys just the puzzle just seems to fit and they all enjoy playing together. And so it's been fun. I mean, it's only three games. We've got a lot of work to him. But a good start anything more satisfying than when you're putting a puzzle together. And you find a couple of pieces that fit like on a tough puzzle. And just like, yeah, baby. Now, you got something to work with right? And you're looking back at the box. Like, okay, I need something with an yellow in it. Right. I mean, there's not one flower right there. Okay. Gotta find. Okay now. Okay. Now, we got four pieces together. Okay. We're starting to put somebody. I was never good at puzzles at all I've ever been able to solve a rubik's cube. I've never been good at puzzles. I can't paint. I can't draw not good at any of that Raphael. Been good at puzzles or anything. No, I always get like one side of the rubik's cube. And then like the opposite side, but I could never I could never do. Like, the whole thing quiet storm, you even own a rubik's cube is I do not rubik's cube is, but I haven't really ever attempted. It bet if you bet if you did you would master it. What was your GPA in highschool? Hold on let me guess, you're a you had a cumulative GPA of three point seven. A whole number south of that already you to seven you're two seven guy. Yeah. Damn then you maybe look smarter than you are. I didn't know you were a dumb ass. That's crazy seized get degrees. No doubt about that. You know what? It's funny. My freshman year GPA one point three six and then every year, I got better by the time. I was a senior. I was like three. Oh, no problem. Same thing in college. First couple of years, I didn't really care about school decent grades. But by the time, I was taking classes at my major at SF state for Becca broadcasting electron and communication arts in house by the time. I got my degree in Becca that I was like on the dean's list that when I get a b-. I'd get pissed off. Like dude deserve a B. Of course. I was like thirty years old when I went back to college. So there's really no excuse to be trash at that point. I needed to get a frigging job. All right coming up. It is Friday. So the last segment of our number one we like to tell you some things to do. Spend your weekend. It will be our weekend preview, and that's coming up. So don't you dare go anywhere. Almost in the quiet storm your house. He's going to beat that ass on.

"Ryan Kobe just Mozine along on a Tuesday nights, San Jose Sharks. Coming home after a road trip where they went one three in one salvage couple of points in Montreal. Now, they're heading home tomorrow night to face. The hurricanes hasn't been a great stretch for the sharks. Check in with Jamie, Baker, of course, sharks color analyst into good friend came tonight and see what's going on down there with teal, Jamie. What's up? How are you? Well, I go to it's nice to be home. We're not home for long. We got a game tomorrow against Carolina hit the road on Thursday, often Dallas. Federal maker wasn't kind to us at this time of year. But whatever the bottom line is you gotta pay forty one road game. So they're all bunch of them together right now with Dr back from the team's doing the best. They can to get through it. Yeah. And I I heard that Doug Wilson sat the guys down in Montreal about an hour meeting. Talk to me about that. Okay. So I don't know all the logistics. I, you know, even even I'd like gametime. He gets Montreal was not aware that Doug. I just knew that. There was a meeting in the you know, there's a meeting not morning they played Saturday afternoon. I think we got to Montreal from all around seven PM so time for everybody go out for dinner. And then they didn't have a morning skate the next day today. But they did have everybody come to the arena. So whether the meeting was with I would this I've read Kerr's Geico shop, Dr Doug wells was in the meeting. I think Peter was in the meeting. I I know after the Ottawa game on the post game show. I said, I wouldn't be surprised. The players are meeting right now in a players only meeting which didn't happen after all. But I I think a meeting what I'm saying is I would feeling like a meeting was necessary to get you gotta get everybody on the same page, and it doesn't. Behind. I've been behind those meetings. First of all the general manager gets involved. It's not right. And the reason it's not good. Like jaundice twist the team. Give these guys these guys massive contracts. Coaching? And they opt to, you know, take the pieces and make them work. The players and their job. Line every shift every every game as best they can as best they can dealing with g-get and timezone travel and injuries and all of that. But you know, the owners still comes back to the players. They're the only ones on the ice show. What happened in the meeting? I think it's a good group. But they haven't been. Cheating their expectations. And I think it was time for a meeting of the minds, and let's hope that that meeting that game against Montreal is the beginning of them like the snowball going in the right direction where they play more consistent as a group and start to get a lot more wins. Yeah. And. Jamie. That's why we have you on man, we want that inside. Absolutely. You can definitely provide that forest now. With the with the GM getting involved in being in a meeting like this is that kind of put everybody in an alert like damn I is this the message that hey, I'll tinker with this roster. If you force my hand. It means he's not happy fair enough. He doesn't have to come in. He doesn't have to come in and yell right? Like, that's not his style. I've had the GM to bear our team. He went player by player to another team. That was doing better than goes on paper. We're better what's wrong GM's in there for part of it is to get the players to open up and what's going on. Right. Can you know, you just got a seven year deal? Logan. You got an eight year deal burns a year on an eight year deal. Flashback we gave you an eight year deal. Hey jones. We gave you a six year deal. Right. Yeah. We've got jumble on a one year deal. Babs on a one year deal. They're working. They're jails off, you know. Hey, Earl you decide what he's trying to four year deal. Right. There's some big money guys with the hats going on. Yeah. That'd be like guys making we try and do for this. What's what's with the inconsistency here? Right. And and let's let's not point fingers. It's like, let's get to the bottom of this collectively. And turn it around. And that's that's what they're for. And you know what Doug Wilson? Nostra full at communicating like, he truly cares about people in the organization not just of the players, and and he gives everybody wrote. And I think it was trying to get in there because he cares about the players and the team and the coaching staff. So I don't think there was any threats like, oh, we're gonna make massive changes. I think this was a communication of wire. Why are we at the, you know, the one third Mark and not consistently playing as well as we get done. That's disturbing. Yeah. And I mean, you talk about talent the sharks have a ton of talent. It's been the integration of Eric Carlson. Maybe a little inconsistency net. And I remember the last time we talked. I was signing Martin Jones you said, well, the guys in front of them have to play better and not just a defense the fours need to come back and help and to that end, Jamie. I mean here they are thirteen ten and five, but they have a minus four goal differential. And I I actually like I had to look back. Then I'm like am. I reading that. Right. I mean, it seemed this talented at both ends of the rink to be minus four. A third of the way through the season. That's got improve particularly five on five. Would you say that's where they need the most help right now is that five on five just that you know, a hockey at its finest just get out there. And I'll work the opposition. Getting the coroner's get dirty in in grind, some some good shifts together. Yes. But I will add. Because I could have just answered that. Yes. But but I will add 'cause I track the five on five and. Going. So I Premo I'm looking at my pre Montreal game stats. So they've changed because they won the game. Three one two going into the game. They were tied for twenty first in goals against in the league yet. Yeah. They were second in the league and penalty killing right? Now, this is when you talk five on five you asked about five on five, and you you mentioned a bunch of attributes or you know, specifics that are needed to succeed on five on five. They won the five on five ballots. My it's only the seventh time they've won it this year. They've lost the five on five battle fourteen times. And they've tied it seven times. So when they tire win the five on five dollars right now their record is eleven one and two when they lose the five on five battle there too. I nine three I think you just nailed it needs to be better five on five. Yeah. That's it. I mean, you know. I'm sharing your yours. Yours your you had the eye test. Right. I gave you this statistical. Yeah. Like the analytical Jacqueline. David. That's what you do. And you're you're on sports radio your jobs to watch and keep track of things and we're doing we're both doing our job. Yeah. You go. And I saw the eleventh in the NHL in power play percentage that power play should be top five. I mean, they're lethal. We talked last time, Jamie. I remember about Eric Carlson in the integration to the shark system. It's a contract year eats a new team a new city, his private life has changed considerably. But hey, that's life in the NHL. A lot of guys traded and move cities at cetera. You said, you know, at some point we would see that, you know, ten to fifteen games stretch over like, okay? That's it. They're clicking right now. And I know we still have a long way to go. But I still feel like it hasn't happened for Carlson. Yeah. Well, what is he missing in his game right now? Do you feel like he's just pressing is he trying too hard? What's going on? I don't think it's I think it's all team. I think the team is off. I need a byproduct of this team. He's a big part of this team. I think the team is off. I think when we see the team start to roll we're going to start to see Carlson and burns, I consider them. The two superstars on this team. I agree. And I think we're going to and you know, with our back end logic needs three better. And like our defense needs to be better. And so he's a byproduct of it's not that he's not trying it shot that he's not caring. But. He's not in sync. Just like the entire team isn't instinct, I don't have the answers. I don't have the answer like when? But like even hearing from what was talking about today from just reading some of the courts, I didn't go to practice but Curtis for Shankar from Mercury News. You know, some of the stuff he gotta put out on Twitter. Was basically divorced like like or close. We're close. But like we're at the third point and one third point in the season. We're not close enough and like we need to get their. Hopefully, there's a nice puzzle. That'll be put together out all this. Hey, I want to ask you about. Joe Pavelski, you know, I mean you played forward in the NHL. You know, what it means to score gritty just hard nosed goals out in front. Joe ski can never be accused of being the fastest skater. But he's got such a great shot. His hockey awareness is I q is just off the charts in just here we go. Another year of Joe Pavelski just producing goals big time goals clutch goals. And I mean, this guy doesn't have a contract for next year. Doug Wilson Hello on behalf of everybody. Get that man and deal if he wants to keep playing hockey just talk about Lavelle ski, you know, where he's at right now. You know, just how how how does he keep doing this? It's amazing to watch. Well, I'm not getting into the contract stuff because that's. I can say. I'm with you. But like that's not enough. Yeah. Yes. I do. I want you back on the next year. Yes. That question. I gotcha. So why why you mentioned like is hockey, I q? Dissipation is tonight. Pays the price? We kind of we highlighted a couple of the region games. He's like he doesn't have the breakthrough speed in the neutral zone. So he's he's not gonna score necessarily a lot off the right? She's not going to carry it. But he can dish it off. But when you get into the offensive zone. He's reading what everyone's doing. He knows where everybody is. But he -ticipant so well that he gets inside body position. And he can time things perfectly. And you can I think you can teach this to a point. But at some point it's also just a God given gallant he gets his stick open at the right time. And then he works these gold make the goals that he scores. There's a most of the goals that he's scored. I I watch him work on those in practice like when he's the first guy on the, ice and coaches, shooting pox or. Burns. He's out there with their more jumbos out there. You know, like, you know, the goal that little wrap around. That's that's not an accident. He worked on that. You know, some of those one timers at the bottom of the circle hard passers. That's not an accident. He goes and goes to that spot. Studies film if something happens in a game. He'll he'll studies that he learns it, and then he goes out and creates drills and works on it. So the next time it happens. You can execute. Liking which is obviously putting the puck in the net. So Dr if I played on this if I was a young player, and I'm a forward, I'm on the sharks. I'm watching what he does everyday and trying to replicate it as much as I can regardless of my skill set. Because if you can have if you can replicate even some of the things that that guy doesn't offensive zone, you're going to have a really nice NHL career. Yeah. Consummate pro. Well, hey, let's hope that they get things turned around still a long way to go and home to the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow, Jamie. Appreciate the time. As always we'll talk to you soon. "In downtown San Francisco. Here's your host Ryan Kobe. Seventeen. Walk tonight. Ryan Kobe with these sports leader and very excited to be joined by our next guest demand that really needs no introduction. Who's the number two overall pick in the NFL draft back in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight and currently an analyst for the Pac twelve network. You also has to show on Sirius XM channel three three called Pac twelve this morning is working in the booth as well. Now, he joins us on the guest line. Ryan leaf ladies and gentlemen, Ryan. How are you today? I'm great thanks for having me on. No. I appreciate your time. Absolutely, man. And I gotta tell you your story is inspiring and just to see you you shining here in two thousand eighteen that's terrific. And I know it's been a long road for you. Let's just start with you know, where you're at currently what you've been up to and just kind of bring everybody up to speed. Well, you know about three and a half just over three and a half years ago. I walked out of prison cell one that I put myself in both figuratively, and literally, and when I got down with my fiance to be we kind of put together a list of goals that we wanted to achieve their goals before you know, before all this happened, and that was broadcast journalism major in college. And I always wanted to be I wanted to be like, Joel Klatt and Kirker street. And so I put up. In a plan in action. And you know, we're starting to return to see some fruits some fruits of that labor coming true this year. And and we're really. Diary. Radio show and the worked with twelve network in. But all in all it's been a lot of fun to be able to make a living. Talking about sports. I think is kind of a a dream come true for me. It's a dream come true for me too. Ryan, I get to do it every day. And I didn't have the chops to be a pro athlete. So this was my only route. And I gotta tell you. I get to live it every day. And I absolutely love it. So I can relate to you on that. Hey, let me ask you did you ever lose your passion for the game of football. And was it somewhere buried deep inside your for a while? I mean, oh draft bus draft busted me. But that doesn't define who you are as a man. I mean, it's sports. It's you know, it's trivial. I mean, it's not it's not real life in a lot of ways. You know? Even though you you lived it. But they're, you know, you got to kind of compartmentalize things, you know, just kind of talk about that. And did you ever lose your your passionate love for the game of football? I think I think you know, a lot of people value at a bumping greater than them. What it really is. Like you said, but yeah, there were times, you know, there was there was a point. Right. I couldn't or wouldn't watch and NFL football game for a very very long time. I think the first NFL game I watched after my retirement was the Indianapolis New Orleans Saints Super Bowl. Wow. That was the first the first one, I really. Really sat down and washing realized how much I just love the game of it gave me a lot. It was talk for a long time. But then also I had to remember that you know, what I did wasn't a failure. Even though I was told that it was and I believed that for so long. It made me actually look at myself in a in a negative fashion. Went in in the way, I should have been looking at it as a very successful wife and one that I may have not met the expectations that were placed upon me or that I placed upon myself, but it's all in perspective. How you look at things, and I just I was not looking looking at them in in the right horn. And I'm glad that I got to that point. And I really don't mean to minimize my story at all. But it was just me having to figure it out, you know, getting through a rough past like anybody else. I just happened to do it in a very public way. Yeah. I I'm sure that just makes everything that much tougher when everything's under a microscope. And you know mean I followed your career very closely. We're very similar in Adrian. And, you know, seeing you go through some of the trials and tribulations and then come out on the other side the way you are. I mean, it's inspiring. And that's one of the main reasons why we wanted to have you on. So let's talk. Let's go back to great falls Montana. You grew up there. I'm assuming small town. I mean, kind of a rural community, and then you lied. You know, you end up all the way up in Oiseaux plan for the Cougars. How that all come to pass? Well, Mike Christ. You know, I was recruited by everybody pretty much in the country. So, you know, my price. Did something that a lot of other coaches, probably Donnie just simply call one day. And I happened to be on January first, and I was watching the Rose Bowl. And he said, you know, what are you doing? I told him. I was watching the rose boys that I'll make you a deal you come here and play for me. Your dial playing that game together. And I just I bought it hook line, and sinker. I didn't didn't do any research. I didn't realize they haven't been there since nineteen thirty one. But it was a leap of faith. And it worked out, you know, we did something that I haven't been down there in sixty seven years we played for national championship. Coach was coach of the year. I was player of the year the Heisman Trophy candidate allow for me to represent my my hometown, a great falls in the state of Montana as well as represent Washington state, university and. Into the you know, the greatest year football, my wife, definitely one of the greatest. Here's a football the Washington state at produce which is really fun to be part of. Absolutely. Yeah. And I know it's it's look back on so fondly in what time it was. So let's let's go a little bit ahead. Now, you're going into the NFL draft you and paid manning, you know, are rumored to be neck and neck as far as who's gonna go. First overall, you end up going to the chargers. Number two. Just kind of walk me through that process. When did you find out you're going to become a charger? I'm sure you were filled with excitement, you know, you got your whole NFL career ahead. You have to this positive experience at wazoo. Just take me back to that time and kind of had it all go down. Well, I mean, it was obviously they're gonna be the first or second pick in the NFL draft which. Incentivize me to leave early. The fact that I left what was the greatest, you know. I'm on my life. Both those three years in college. You know, I regret that just because. If I knew what was about to transpire how I was able or how I was about to deal with it. I would have definitely stayed another year of college. But I wanted to live my dream. And this was the next step, and I got the opportunity. The draft process was interesting. There wasn't really much Peyton and I to do to not be the first or second pick that wasn't how it's gonna mostly like to play out. So we didn't have to do too much. You know, my age, and I kind of talked about not wanting to play in Indianapolis when the opportunity presented itself to point San Diego, just with with the weather and a family and maybe the west coast. So we, you know, we kind of we kind of manipulated our way a little around making sure we didn't end up in Indianapolis. I don't necessarily know if they were really honestly draft me. But you know, we we made it clear that we weren't really single Indianapolis. I San Diego and a great place. Great players. Eighth around me. And I just I just wasn't equipped to deal with failure wasn't ready to deal with failure. And I didn't see it as an opportunity to do a better the next time. And I didn't live life on life's terms than in it caught up to me in a hurry. But that league you have to be ever evolving. If you're not it will be over in a hurry. Yeah. No. That's mean, the NFL. It's it's the top of the food chain in in pro football, no doubt. And it is a pretty unforgiving unforgivingly. Hey, let me ask you this. Ryan if you could, you know, have a little a little sit down and spend a few minutes with Ryan leaf of nineteen ninety eight heading into the draft. What would you tell them? This is gonna hurt like hell you're gonna you're gonna make it you're gonna you're gonna make make it through. It's going to be awful. But you're gonna you're gonna be okay in twenty years from now you going to be in exactly the same spot as Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson. Randy moss. The guys you got drafted with the ups and downs. The light for those twenty years will of many things to to all parties. But you're all going to be in pretty much the same place in your lives, which is which is what we ultimately want. That's terrific Ryan. And by the way, we're talking to Ryan leaf on came here tonight. Ryan Kobe with you on the sports leader. Hey, I want to ask you something Ryan. And you know, this is such a taboo subject in our country. But I talk about it openly on my show drug addiction, particularly opioid addiction and mental illness, and how those two things are inextricably linked in, you know, self medicating for mental illness in depression, not to mention when you culminate, you know, some of your football. Injuries as well kind of opening that door to the opioid world. And I know it's sunk its hooks into you deeply, and we do ourselves as a society such a disservice because it affects everyone on so many different levels. I mean, every family has been touched by it. But yet nobody wants to talk about it and not just the opioid crisis. But mental illness in general, and the fact that it's such a taboo subject, and really we're all just human trying to figure our way here in in for that to be taboo, it just it's sad to me because we're all affected by it. Right. Yeah. I mean, we are. Stigmatizing, and it's our job for those of us who have gone through what we've gone through to shine a light on it did stigmatize because let's put it this way. You know, I may not be alive. To see the day where it's not stigmatize like it is anymore. You know, there were things that were very typical and stigmatizing in the sixties that were still struggling with. But that doesn't mean you pack it in at the end of the day. You know, people aren't getting it. So I'm gonna stop you just you control what you can control. You do what you can do..

"With your host Ryan Kobe. Yosu on the way swing this week. What a job by over get a release the Rockies have won the wildcard game day, come the Chicago. And they beat the cubs two-to-one, sending the cups home for the winter. And the Rockies are headed about ninety miles north to start the division series Thursday with the Milwaukee Brewers back off for child seriously. Yeah. Give the rocky credit and as much as I was bitching and moaning about the fact that the National League after they had to play two division tiebreakers on Monday, then you'd have to turn around and play a winner take all wildcard game Tuesday. When the American League's been sitting around fat and happy for the last couple of days and the as and the Yankees don't play tomorrow night. That didn't serve the cubs. Very well. But think about the Rockies in all the traveling. I mean, they ended up they finish up their season against the nationals. They're fighting for their playoff lies with the dodgers. Every game is matter for them down the stretch. Then they go to LA they get their butts kicked yesterday. Pick their asses up off the ground. Come into Chicago jump on the cubs. Get one run in in in anywhere. They probably should have scored more. Let's face it at second and third and nobody out and only managed to score one run John Lester pitched a hell of a game tonight. And the cubs had their chances. But the Rockies found a way to get it done, by the way, Iraqis two and five versus the brewers this year crazy stats in this game. I mean, you know, when you get these extra inning games that in the postseason these wild card games. This is exactly what major league baseball has in mind, by the way, nothing like single game elimination for all the marbles into that end coming up a little bit later on this hour. We'll do our Tuesday top five, and we will celebrate the concept of the wildcard just where the the idea behind it came. And of course, you know football has the wildcard the NCAA tournament. You know, the version of that an NCAA is the at large bid. I mean, that's extensively a wild card. So also found some other sports that employ the wildcard across a lot of different platforms. So we.

"Here's, Ryan Kobe on Cayenne. Biard six eight put a lot of work, in any year gone to a lot of. Things who changed the roster over a ton. Together as a coaching. Staff more goes through this every single day and. What I'm happy with. When I look out on the field that our players when I look at our. Coaches were better or cheaper or faster. We moved together eleven guys better together and that should happen we've we've done a longer we've had more time. To build the personnel but it's been a year and a half we plan to do this every single year I'm feeling that man I'm not gonna lie The. Coaches in the bay area. Right now, I. Really am great coaches right now young right. Mine's savvy veterans championship pedigrees across the board you name it and I think Kyle Shanahan is going to go down is is one of. The better forty Niners coaches we've seen in recent times and obviously there's a few, legends on that list we're gonna talk to a legend on our, listen and quite, frankly one of my, favorite sports writers in. The, bay area it is. David Lombardi of the athletic doing a great, job covering the forty Niners at Lombardi himself. Checking in talking a little pig skin with. Us David what's up. Brother how you doing Doing well yeah actually got some baseball. Tonight as the giants again so just kinda passing the time before we start on Wednesday nice so, so do you want to go Derek Rigas or. Do, you want to, go Jimmy Garoppolo I still know much more about the. Forty. Nine fish out of water up to another sport you're always the new guy there he faces You you kinda. Have. To, get reacclimated so. Why don't we stick with. Jimmy, Garoppolo and why don't why, don't, we stick with. Football. Related, top Amen to yeah no I. Heard that, I'm, totally cool with that yeah nobody likes the new guy man everybody knows that yeah and and now heading into year two I mean David there's so much. Optimism right now let me ask you this? Just kind, of pulling all big picture macro view. Other than, an injury to a major piece is there any obstacles that, you could see you. Know kinda knocking this knocking this party sideways I mean all signs indicate toward shannahan, Lynch being on, the same page they got their guy they've added to this roster. And so many meaningful ways not to go. Debbie Downer but you know we want to make sure we're looking at all the angles here. What could what could shake up. The party Losing you know they this is one of those situations where they, have their time, to be able to lose without it being damaging to the overall. Plan last year sicker full advantage of that They bring that one and it. Was okay that that, was the, year where wins and losses I don't think really mattered until they got their quarterback in most, people expected them to get their. Quarterback in there after the season. So most people expected, you know twenty eighteen to be the year, where they, would have to start producing, in the win column, but they got that guy sooner so the winning had to come I think in December especially when you, look at, it in retrospect I mean if, Garoppolo at shown up not really done much then. I, think you wouldn't have you have a little bit of a hot seat feeling right. Now already you know because, this is a proud franchise where results do matter six year contracts or not yeah you have to have an indicator thing. Going in the right direction entering here too that's. Exactly what they, got but because they did have such a successful December that puts pressure on this season to not be another six win season I. Think that they need to least go Five hundred. Sixty years show that that upward. Trajectory is continuing what, does Jimmy Garoppolo have a weakness in I, mean I, say that as a quarterback, of course where where, does he need to get better I noticed a couple of times last year where he got away with, some throws, that you know maybe you're gonna, throw a pick their fifty percent of the time..
