"Open their 107 season of college basketball hard to believe it's been 11 years at the KFC Young Center for coach Chris Mack. He likes getting back on his sophomore Samuel Williamson, who he said, been doing a phenomenal job it rehabbing in the off season. He raises the level of competitiveness when he's back on the floor. One thing I don't have to worry about with Sam is you know where, where his mind that Sam's heads and practice even when he's out so he can visually see what's happening on the floor. Whether it's an angle on the screen, you know where he needs to be, because he's so loves the game of basketball. Put him in a good place when he gets back on the floor over on talk radio 10 80 w. K. "I'm going to set the over under right now for our dear friend Brett Anderson. How many times James Does Brett Anderson fall off the mound either after delivering a pitch or in an attempt to cover first base this season a set it at three and a half? Yes you nailed it. I was yes three and a half exactly three and a half. That is a safe over under I will. I'll take the over. It's going to be five. Text him right now that we just did that and let you know if we get a response I I respect the shit out of bread. Anderson's career path by the way. Like just I observe a one year six million with three million in incentives ebbs in perpetuity like December thirty first twenty fourteen signs with afraid signs with the dodgers twenty fifteen signs a one year deal with the dodgers 2017 signs a one year deal with the cubs twenty seventeen signs a one year deal with the Blue Jays twenty eighteen signs with the as two thousand nineteen signs as one year. Twenty nineteen again and signs of the signs of the brewers. It's just never heard out. Trevor Bauer this. It's done bitch at the end of it. He's he's is going to have been on the equivalent of a nine year. Forty five million dollar contract love that. Yeah Oh yeah worth worth every penny all right so I just text Brett right now I just put your over under on falling down off the mountain next year at three and a half. What are you taking? So we'll see if if we'll see if elected response but in all honesty. Let's call the spade a spade. Let's let's call it what it is the least amount of swing and miss in baseball last year among starting pitchers also one of the best ground ball rates in baseball among starting pitchers so he has been two point. A grizzled vet. Who at times has gotten it? Done showed some serious durability last year. What thirty one starts? I believe That's the second time he's made thirty plus starts maybe the third time since his rookie year that he's even come close to thirty starts. I don't think he's even made twenty starts since his rookie a year and then again like in fifteen I think with the dodgers and then last year with Oakland so hats off to my to my fellow South Ball I fuck it absolutely love it. I thought I was a criminal. God bless him that fucking bucket of Sunshine Brett Anderson Nomar Missouri. To the South side Few noggin no Mar.. There have been twenty four. The corner outfielders to rack up two thousand or more plate appearances through age. Twenty Four. His ninety three Oh. PS is plus is the second worst to only Jeff uncork bad. Not Great seems like contact issue. He has an. He's he's unusual in the sense that most people who get this amount of playing time this early in their careers are usually much better than this. It's just not very often that you see a guy who's this thoroughly averaged get up as early as he did and continue to get as much playing time as he has is it. Is it safe to say that they have been. I mean because look dude. He's popped twenty three years in a row until last year right so right off the bat. They're probably thinking there's some there's some juicier to be. He was a premium prospect. Coming up. No doubt yeah no doubt I always go back to the story that I tell about banney about bannister. Talk talking to him when Missouri. I showed up when I was when I was at the four letter network. And I'm saying Joe like how good is this. Dude this is this is a guy And he and he was telling me Dallas. This kid has no idea how good he is. I almost like have to hide him down down at the bottom of the lineup. Just just so people like kind of gloss over him because if I put them in the three hole he's like I feel like he could compete there and do just is fine within other people would start to pay attention to how good he is. That was the outlook for this dude early on in his career. And I don't WanNa say he's sort of plateaued but when you look at the numbers all the slash line all very very similar like his first year two thousand sixteen to sixty six three twenty four nine thousand nine with seven thirty nine the very next year to fifty three three twenty three Oh. Ps Four twenty two slugging seven forty five. PS US two thousand eighteen reads very similarly as does nineteen. So it's a matter of I think waiting for him to unlock and get to that next. Level of productivity activity. Yeah you just gotTa wonder whether that's ever going to happen right. Because I mean he's He's twenty four. No no no doubt I think but to your point lake for you look at cities twenty four if you look at his raw opium it's going up every year. But that's misleading because everyone's opie has went up last year and if you look at like adjusted. Opiates or weighted runs created or something like that. He's done exactly what you said. He stagnated he took a step back from in two thousand eighteen to twenty nineteen. And I've listened in theory. It's an interesting Bilo but my understanding of the prospect that they gave up is that he's not just some shit had had like he's actually prospect. Who could turn into something? And if that's the case if you're counting on Nomar Missouri to be you're starting porn or outfielder thirteen that takes itself seriously. I think you're in a little bit of trouble or I mean you're hoping for that breakout season. Twenty five twenty six twenty seven season where where he becomes what people thought that they saw in in his earlier days. Because we like this is this is a guy that routinely like if he ends up on a highlight reel. It's because because he hit a home run that was near five hundred feet like the powers. There it's just a matter of discipline contact the whole deal maybe Maybe there's someone there that You know we we look at what happened to you on Moncada. I mean the the step that he took forward in twenty nineteen gene was significantly noticeable. Maybe they can make some sort of adjustments with no mamas are because there's definitely not a lack of raw talent there air now And this just in a word from Brett Anderson is and I quote falling down off the mountain hopefully under under three and a half ending up on the ground and the grasp somehow dot dot dot well over that I told you I don't know that we'll ever get Brett to sit out on the podcast with us unless I am somehow able to inject an IV of some sort of sedative without him knowing But he is a true gem a true peach just a a jewel of human being. And Jared you've got some insight to that so we're not having the ability to share him with the rest of the world but I got to talk to him. I want to talk to him about baseball for like like twenty minutes. Just in as Dugout at fenway. He's not like a shy timid guy he's just like don't bother me guy. Yeah he just wants to be. I mean like he wants to be left alone like LE- let me the fuck alone If I want to talk to you I will talk to you. If you are receptive that outstanding outstanding if you completely ignore me he will just like walk right off like fuck you later Sierra but then he'll he'll never talk to you again in life and interest some people get second chances though right I yeah you did you took I respect the shit. I respect the shit out of him for it. I love me some Bert. Speaking of back end arms Rick Forsillo and Michael Wocka to the mets Rick Barcellos Asai Young Award winner and a world series champion. So let's let's not talk about back into the rotation New York the Yankees by. Yeah I mean trey by far like not even close I mean I guess it's kind of close but after after you get beyond the one two I so we're not I was gonna say let's let's start here. We're all GONNA cancel each other coal. You know we'll we'll cancel those two colon. DEGROM DEGROM gone tax cancelled agron want award gear. Colder did very well could have even cheers. Everybody didn't never want the game. We trust and soul. We can cancel syndergaard with whoever you think the Yankees number two who is severino packs than I think they all come with some level of the same not the same questions but some level of questions and then the Yankees have whichever whichever packed center Severino you think is number three though was over Tanaka Paxton stroman. Yep Paxton. Stroman Tanaka a Matt's Tanaka Matt's all right I think the Yankees have the leg up there. Her Mind Wocka Wocka no poor walk. That sucks wocka stump. Last year like us here but he's an every other year guy so this is kind of thing. That's there's no I know it's joins drives me one hundred and four. Well now. They're just bad. See how that stopped Thompson every their banners. Yeah sure what's overlooked three championships in a decade and move right on into you guys being over look at a trend. One hundred and four hundred pitchers to throw at least one hundred and twenty twenty innings last year walk on Portillo ranked seventh and fifteenth in terms of the highest. Oh ps allowed. So the mets have that bounceback city baby monitor monitor. Part was when they were talking about. We can move on from these guys after this but my favorite part was when they were talking about like what roles how they see this all fitting now that they've signed these two starters. They'd toyed with the idea of maybe moving Lugo Zelma into the rotation and they go. Well were We feel like Lugo and Kasama in our bullpen editions. What look like they only through in the bullpen last year? So like that's not an addition that what was already there. The dodgers saying that they're addition Kenley. Jansen I'm a big fan spin city like you have to broke men wagon. This guy is going to be out of a job manager. I'll speaking of the Horse's ass assessment is has not tracked restructured. So that coming right. I mean you can't go fallen off Mr Red ant is just gonNA keep getting getting paid. The money was due to you but you know what honestly hats off to be here for for just kind of go hand up. I should probably had should probably had boots on GonNa Learn from this one. We'll see you guys when I'm able walk taking no money like the mets had grounds digest negate the entire Is Salary for twenty twenty. That's the last year the deal correct. I I don't think he has anything after that See Twenty nine and a half. They're just like yeah I will you know I'd rather have some money than no money. So let's talk about how we can you know. Pay Me some money versus no money. I'm going to respect when he rolls up to his eighth straight spring training in that. Like batmobile thing yeah after after not playing for four years love it. It's I gotTa tell you they tried to at at ESPN. They tried to get me to like go to talk to. Suspicious is about potentially schilling to spring training one day with him in one of his new rides or whatever and I had to explain to them like.

"Lee Was the fastest guy that I'd ever seen work until Roy Oswald until I was playing behind royals like you could make dinner reservations for sure for. Let's not forget jobe. Yeah Yeah Yeah. You can't Joe Blend Joe. Blend went out there. I want I wanted to ask you about Roy Halladay because you talked about the impact of of the guys is Jimmy Rollins. Swag Master Chase the sharpen sharpener of the Spear Roy obviously sort of a transcendent personalities personalities. He made the decision if you remember they wanted to put the five aces or the four aces or whatever on the cover of the magazine. Yeah Roy said you will have all five of us or you won't have any yes. What kind of what kind of cachet would that mean to have? That kind of CACHET. Roy didn't care about that. That stuff. Right Roy cared about one thing and I was being cared about two things being a good teammate and winning when it came to baseball it was amazing. Amazing man off off the field is such as well like great family. My great great fathers well but when it came to the baseball stuff he wanted to be a great teammate and he wanted to win and I mean in having Joe Blend because job blend was also intricate. Part of that to to where Joe is Joe is going to go out there. Joe Is Bull. He was a pit bull that was going to go out there. And give you some innings. Joe Is he's GonNa go out there and go day she'll do so so but but when it came to Roy like he didn't care about any of that stuff he didn't really care about the Glitz the glamor and all that kind of stuff or whatever. It's like it is what it is like. I'm GONNA prepare myself else to go out here and try to win like he was that guy where you would have to pry the ball out of his hand for him to come out of. Yep You're humble guy I need due to not be for this question. Okay got it you take your your your best homerun heading season right. You drop it in two thousand nineteen. How many any home runs you hidden with the juice? Baseball's I've had an this is. I've had people tell me like multiple people. Say Right if you were playing in this age you would easily have hit seventy. They said they said seventy. Because like if you took guys like myself or like Adam Don and who else was there man I mean yes you take those guys who were hitting forty Like and you add it to this. Yeah I mean. I didn't solicit Dan right well. We're coming to me and saying hey your best year you probably would have. Had Seventy to eighty home runs. And what do you do. You believe that I think he's Kevin Garnett. Said anything is possible. Yeah Fossil yes. How do you think humbly on humble they say they legitimately you're able to drop your best offensive season Antonio one thousand nine hundred and you were chasing down bonds? How do you think you mentally would have handled that mentally? I think it would have been a matter of just. You got family on on the road. They weren't watch me but it was like for that stuff to me was more like okay. That's showtime sure. You know what I mean like. It's okay yeah come on out every every every night it's show they call it the show for reason so it's like if you're feeling not and you're doing this and you you you kind of you gotta you gotTa feel yourself gotTa taste yourself a little bit. Yeah so To the point to where. Yeah you still stay humble you stay hungry but at the same point like within you gotta let that light shine. You know what I'm saying. So for that for me for the mental aspect of it is like if I'm locked in locked in like if you take two thousand six Ryan Howard and lock me in like that. I would be honestly I would say. Don't don't have your family come to the Ballpark Don't tell your friends watch something else because there's a great chance you're gonNA get embarrassed in what was your. What was your big league moment like Mimi? Maybe my welcome to the like. Oh shut down here like I'm here. This is the all right so this is this is awesome so for me it actually happened in spring train okay and it was probably like Oh five I wanna say it was five or six maybe so gingrich. Junior was one of my huge idol growing up and so we're playing in clearwater he's on the reds and he gets on base and gets gets base it he's like. Oh it's a big man how you doing and like the fan and the kid in me is like yeah but you sure man. I'm just I'm chilling man uh-huh so cool and and then that's when I realized it's like this is the dude that I grew up idolizing and I'm standing next to him right here on the same field showing that I can play with this guy and play on this level and that was my. I'm like I'm here on a moment right too. 'cause I guess Griffey if he doesn't respond well to Fan Boeing. Cargo said the first time he ever played griffey he went up to him and be like. Hey Man I grew up like a big fan a and he was like grow up. I mean like review. Is that kind of dude but like you talk about like you're like oh five. Oh six part of your career who two part question. What was the guy that you looked to as you like? I'M GONNA fall this guy around. I'm going to do what he does. I'M GONNA I'm GonNa work with him and then at what point in your career you like. Oh Shit like I'm that guy to someone else now and who was it. Well I mean coming up I mean I had this guy. I'm Jim Thome E. Yeah Yeah I all famer for six hundred hundred tanks. He was great man. I mean he mentored me You know I was Kinda his caddy like you know in early on four five stuff like that but you know gave me great little tidbits of advice in pieces of advice. Nice to kind of move forward and do what I needed to do. Jimmy was actually the one who took me in my first year in the big leagues. Like let me come crash at his house and Khanna kind of told me and showed me Marlon Byrd another Guy Martin. mcdonagh's showed me the ropes of what it was like to be a big leaguer in how you carry yourself this and that because I remember member in Atlanta Gavin Floyd was two thousand four our first road trip in Atlanta and we got to the hotel. So when you're coming from the minor leagues you grab your own bags and you take him to the room so we get to the hotel and we're on elevator mind. You were dressed up like he's wearing hot. Pink Oh is this is a timber. Yeah this was in awe awesome pink halter top. I'm wearing a so not only dressed like a clown show we get to the hotel and then all of a sudden You know we're on the elevator with one of the older guys and we've got our bags like like what are you guys doing. It was like oh going rooms like we got a back like no. You don't take your bags. You have take it bags. Ask because that's how they make their money by you tip in development so we didn't know that nobody ever told us nine but there was obviously big leaguer etiquette shirts. You'RE GONNA learn. Yeah we learned. We learned that they. Who is that guy that you mentor? Man I tried to talk to my Manteaux Joe Tommy Tommy Joseph Ziff Dominic Brown when he was there for a little bit You know just yeah just tried to talk to as many guys that that I could. Michael Franko just try to tidbits here. Well your family appreciates you being at home. There's no doubt about Scott's appreciates the help that you're that you're giving them on on and off the field as well. I we have a question. We like to ask each guest and we'll ask you again. Have we already question here now. all right so if we can put you in a hot tub time machine take you back in Major League Baseball history and you can bear witness to any moment in time. What is that moment? ooh You're there. I'm there hot hot tub time machine. It take me back to win I. I'd like to go back to like some of the old school days. Take me take me back to go. See like Babe Ruth and those guys and see what it was like in like be a fly on the wall and watch Babe Ruth kind of Jewish thing on and off the field. Yeah Yeah on a GIG. He has working how I would love to see that. And then maybe we on the way back. Stop and see the Willie mays over the shoulder. Catch okay go go check that out like yeah yeah. I'm a believer that the Babe Ruth was a mythical character. Yeah you WanNa you WanNa tell him who you babe. Ruth is essentially Adam Dunn Babe. Ruth played it. He'd be Adam Dunn he would be Babe Ruth he he would just be done now. He's what he said. Never seen fastball over like eighty five and his life doesn't it never get the whole terrible the arrows and he doesn't understand I see I don't i. Don't ever compare the eras. Yeah because it's just you can't right. It's two different you can't but we can do is say that Babe Ruth played against ends guys that are like walking around the lobby of this hotel right now. That's pretty much his competition. Yes we'll have this conversation another time Ryan Howard thank you so much for coming on. Oh you will be a two-time guests at some point man most definitely. I JUST WANNA shout out for people to be able to find out about how to go out and apply Yes for the for the program you just have to go to. WWW www dot mlb. Dot Com backslash Scott field to be able to nominate one of the youth organization type fields. That you want to try to get in there for the grant money for the refurbishment programme appreciate you guys for having me on course.

"You get your lime grapefruit your orange or lemon. The Berry pack has the wildberry the blueberry my raspberry the Black Cherry that tropical pack Pineapple Mango Passion Fruit Watermelon Kiwi horrible pineapple double the easy leader in the clubhouse there in the tropical. And it's not even close so God there get yourself a truly you won't be disappointed We did get into do the Anthony Ren dawn contract which is seven years two hundred forty five million dollars to head to Anaheim a high. He's joining up with Mike. Trout Albert Pool Holes in that contracts. Say What you want about that one but rent onto the angels I I don't want to say that. I was super surprise but I think the clubhouse favourite was the Texas Rangers. Yeah on what stop right there. Her I was absolutely surprised. Fuck yes I was surprised. Let's be real. Is this their immediate area of attention. Jerry is this in the snow and disagree signs the second call signs with the Yankees. They have some money to play with an WHO's next in line. It's random so I think the angels. The Angel could way empty-handed could walk empty headed. That's fine but let's go back to a point in talk that existed. Which is Garrett Cole was free to be courted? Let's go back to that time and then I'll ask the question again. J You and your coconut oil ladder. Buccaneer was telling me you mean to tell me that a team that has experience what they experienced in their starting rotation Over the last decade plus doesn't need something doesn't need a plant their flag. Of course they Garrett Cole was the perfect fit for the angels. I'm just saying that if he's off the board I don't have a problem with them. pivoting to a position player they spent two years and and eighty million dollars less on because the assumption would then be they could spend some of that eighty million or whatever it is on going out and getting a Madison Bumgarner who then subsequently left the board or Hyun Jin Ryu or someone like that I think they in la so that's no big deal. The angels the angels desperately need help on the mound right but what they also need our other good players because like their position player group ranked sixteenth in baseball in wins above replacement last year with Mike Trout. Middle of the pack. That's with my track with Outwit Chow. Pack so that speaks to the total lack jack of other players. Not Including Andrew. Simmons who like this. There's was that also hurt right. I'm saying but like Andrew all new angelsen. Simmons is Great. What I'm saying? Is that the rest of the position players outside of Simpson trout provided so little last year that it adding a top five player in baseball. Even if he's not on the mound has a huge value to the angels huge value. I just look I just don't see e I understand the the idea of pivoting once Garrett Cole is off the Board Yep I I think that that one is still could have been spent where you guys don't seem to think that were you is just going back to La do he's going back to La. I think that's a done deal. Frankly I feel very confident about this I I just don't see how I don't see how they don't say you know what Rondonia sexiest he is. We're GONNA have Angleton back on the back on the mend. We're going to have upton hopefully on the mend. We're going to have Otani. Okay Whoa David Fletcher has has emerged as a guy who's got to ball skill. That's got that they will benefit from so two to the point of not having or big middle of the pack. They were middle of the pack with some question marks. They could have had the opportunity they could you tell me. They can't have a Madison bumgarner right now. The clearly put Oh sing. Yeah but I don't think signing Madison Bumgarner and let's just play this out signing Madison Bumgarner and Hyun Jin Ryu instead of Anthony Random so those two instead of one run down to me that is in no way making you in better shape I would way rather have anthony ran down by himself then then Madison Bumgarner and onion hundred you almost regardless of what the rest of the roster looks like or what team we're talking about because now you have the opportunity to go and kick the tires on Josh Donaldson Donaldson as well because now that money. I just gave you three players that are going to give you windonw money right like all three. You could conceivably acquire all three of those players for what Anthony were known tone is going to make so now you you've got a more than serviceable hot cornermen. And you've got to arm that you fucking lutely needed. Like you're just you're not GonNa get me off the position that a rotation that had one guy one guy one get to the hundred mark doesn't need an arm rest to to me the gap between Garrett Cole and every other pitcher I mean Strasburg was never going to the angels. I think that's probably pretty safe. If the gap between Garrett Cole and the Bumgarner and Reuse and wheelers of the world is so vast that I totally understand pivoting horrendo- and once Garrick Lake. I also think that like if you read the tea leaves. It probably sounds like the angels were going to have to exceed what the Yankees got to to in order to Land Garrett Cole Right so absolute for the same reason that Madison Bumgarner is nowhere in California and in Arizona. Because you're GONNA have to come correct with at least one hundred Mil if you're GonNa Bread Madison up in Kelly tax purposes. You'd better come at me. So let's say the gap between what you paid rent on. What would've had to pay? Cole wasn't even eighty million dollars. It might have been a hundred million dollars. It might have been one hundred and five million dollars something like that so I don't blame them for walking away even if he was the best possible fit because the the other position players. You've named to me are guys that will that are complementary pieces around a Mike Trout out and there was a glaring hole for a second best player on this team. Because I'm not trusting Justin Upton to be both good and available for a full season I think I I think the world of Otani talent. I don't think you can pencil him in for five or six hundred plate appearances right now your tongue you buy. I want to but you can't responsibly. Do that as the as billy up ler. GM of the angels on you pay just you can. And the fact we got the David Fletcher so quickly and running down their line. Yep I think is I didn't realize prior to the to the winter meetings The Dallas had such a fletcher in his pants like he lose. This guy loves him like I. I was waiting. Honestly for the Fletcher like trout. Comparisons like they were. They were coming if I let them keep talking without interjecting they were coming. I will start a flat your skin fire in public and apologized to nobody. Yeah it it was It was it was it was insane to watch but like I said I think it made sense after the miracle signing. I don't think many of us were like I said. I think it was the rangers until it wasn't maybe return to the nationals because even though Strasbourg returns to DC the the nationals were at least projecting the image of don't rule us out online. Don I don't think that they were never going to resign. Resign him after signing Strasbourg Rangoon was unwilling to defer two hundred. Thirty of the two hundred and forty five million dollars so the there was never going to be a fe with the nats right right so I think it was nice for them to at least say that they were interested. We were all interested. He's a great player. But the second that Garrett Cole goes to the Yankees and the angels miss out on their Guy I can see from a value perspective. It's not so much and I see Dallas point too. You know you you're you don't have fucking shit in your rotation right now it'd be nice to add a starter. But today as point the dropoff between Cole and the next guy was so significant that if we were talking a a fantasy baseball draft you would not after Garrett Cole is off the board then take a one of those starting pitchers you'd take down so they did the best with what they had as in terms of dollars allocated to to what they could spend they got their guy they got a guy that is going to make their team better. Here's a Dallas. We know it's not fantasy baseball ball. I know I know I know but their their roster to me is vacant enough where you can almost treat it like a fantasy baseball roster because it just needs good players. Here's another take for you to go back to the Bumgarner viewpoint and if you're trying to maximize child's window I am not convinced that one year from now Madison Bumgarner Orange Hon. John Review will be somebody that you even want throwing a potential playoff game for you. I think that conversation could be had right now and then I don't I know what you're doing throwing a hundred and eighty million dollars at those two guys combined. If your goal is what the angels goal should be well because everybody gets to choose from just invert do ooh. We want to run out there. Do we want to run. Burland out there. We want to run coal out there. We got spoiled Broth Garner. Their their choice was bunger and review or Rendong. And I will tell you that you're going to run out there during the playoffs. We just saw that. We just saw that hot. Damn it's I think it's all it's all relative because we all know how special power pitchers are and how important they are in the postseason for the reasons they're important power pitchers yet the ability to stymie offense and you saw that play out so again. You're you're high profile guys that do work for your during the regular season season. All aren't all throw this out. There Clayton Kershaw. Maybe those aren't guys that are at the very top of your list to start your very first playoff game. Regardless of what their regular season body of work looks like so. Congratulations to Anthony. Red Dell give. I'll fuck where he's playing. He got paid two hundred and forty five million doll hairs. Read it up. Chicken sure dead Madison. Bumgarner the D backs from the mother fucking clouds drop eighty five million or five years. I would when this first. The original tweet was Madison. Bumgarner to the debate on a five year deal. There's no money put out there and someone tweeted you to me and said what do you think he's GonNa get for money and I was like I'm thinking an av around twenty one to twenty three million dollars. He gets the AV of seventeen million. He gets his eighty-five million over five What is it fifteen is deferred yup fifteen deferred fifteen deferred And and obviously as Dallas mentioned earlier. You would have had to have dropped at least one hundred million on him. If you're the dodgers of the angels because the taxes in California any any just preferred Arizona and you know what I wish more guys will just say that because Arizona is fucking great if our free agent and I had teams in the mix being if I if I'm Madison Bumgarner Garner and I'm on the on the back nine and I've already proven what I am and what I can do. I already have my rings plural and I'm a big reason for why one of them is on my finger. guess what. I'm just going to pick where I WANNA go. I'm just GONNA. I'm going to pick where I want to spend my days. And that is the Arizona diamondbacks and that's not to say that the d-backs might not have a good team that I mean I don't know if they're gonNa Keep Robbie Ray that could end up trading Robbie Ray but Alex young as a lot of promise but Madison Bumgarner taking eighty five million over five years to go where he actually wants to be geographically. I have nothing But respect for that decision nothing but respect and consider what he just bought he and his family which is another two months at home. Yeah Spring training comes. He's not moving folks. Maybe moves a little closer. If he's not right near the facility but he'll probably be able to take cure that right feel like he's going to have a nice paycheck coming his way. So he'll be able to relocate however close to the facility he needs to be he'll be able to accommodate any any travel needed with he and his family. I mean being at home pitching at home wintering at home. Those are all ideal Adeel options. If you're in the position to be able to steer your compass as such Madison Bumgarner is in that position. I like I like the fact that the diamondbacks have said you know what we're not just going to stand idly by. We're not going to hand the division Asian to the dodgers. That's not going to happen. We're not just going to give it to them. We're not I did notice hell. No that's what that's what they're saying. J. Scale this guy not right. It's different messaging right. Yeah it's different messaging. That's what this is is. Hey the time has come in. The time is now and we feel like if we're GONNA start making moves and dethroning individuals. I it starts with putting somebody at the tip of the Spear Madison. Bumgarner is going to join a rotation with what leak a gallon gallon through the ball pretty well and his in his short life there Kelly. Maybe yeah I mean there's there's there's options options and one thing to think about with Battiston Bumgarner and I know Jay. You'll probably you'll probably think about this. Or you've factor this in eighteen hundred innings eighteen hundred plus innings on a thirty year. Old Arm.

"I called Kentucky game in this these. Now granted I did call their loss to ole miss shout out to coach yo, but that was a tough game for them without Macy Morris. But I think how smooth Ryan is, you know. And obviously, your concern is okay. So she can score it, right? She can take over game. I love the way she rebounds her to Nassau County. But you're concerned coming into the tournament. She's a freshman like how many teams are we talking about entering the tournament being led by freshman? Not that many and definitely not that many that we have a shot to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. So that is the only thing but other than that. I mean, they've got you know, Macy, and you kind of feel like Kentucky is rejuvenated. But when you are facing. You know teams that just have more NCA experience. You know, if they do end up running up against I mean, NC state that's going to be a challenge. Because state does have you know, experience. But what do you what do you think? Do they have what it wakes? The thing about Ryan Howard is that with Taylor Murray, and they see more. It's kind of like Ryan than what the game come to her. So she it's not all on her shoulders. And to me I was wondering when she came to SEC tournament if she was going to be like, oh, you know on the lights. It's a huge. Pageantry. You know, she was unfazed. I mean in the fourth quarter against Missouri. Granted they didn't win. You know, she she wanted the ball. She demands it and she hits the shot from not worried about her come into a tournament time about about being a freshman. She's a sophomore now, she's already grown up like she's rude on but Kentucky, you know. I talked to coach Mitchell just the other day, and they've spent a lot of time working on their defense. And that's kind of been the difference. I feel like with Kentucky this year is they're getting they're getting back to defending turning people over. And then now you've got a player like Ryan Howard. When you need a basket toss score. I mean, that's kind of how she can roll. And that's nice to have if you're if you're Matthew Mitchell. I just worry about their waxes post players. I mean, it really have a huge post presence. And if they want to go up against NC state, you know, that's the challenge, you know, what who's going to dictate style. But I just think Ryan Howard is a player that I put my money on you know, I think I really liked their chances. You know, west more you cover the ACT a lot what he's done this year, given everything all the adversity that they've had speaks for itself, but Kentucky's a different team this year. And I think he came McKinney might be healthy, and that's one of their post player she had a concussion and the SEC tournament. So if they're at full shrink, and they're healthy, they're turning people over everyone's click in. I mean, Kentucky's a really good team. You know, they played really good really well in the non conference. So that's those are two teams. They become no one's really talking about. But I think they're really good which I really do have really good in post play. We will end on Mississippi State because you. Transition. Yes, you have seen a lot of tear mccowan, and I really enjoyed your interview with the Schaefer family that was so well done untold said a lot about Vic. I mean, we see these coaches, but when you hear their family about them definitely brings a different dimension. But you know, some people were surprised to see Mississippi State as a one seed, especially because they ended up not having to necessarily play the cream of the crop in the SEC coming through the tournament. But they didn't get that one. See they will be in Portland, Oregon, ducks are the number two seed. So actually there's concern there. But is this team primed to make it to the final four make it back to the final four. Absolutely. I think second to Notre Dame. I think Mr. de stayed is playing the best basketball team in the country. Ha having seen them throughout the year..

"So there's a couple of things one is Harper. It is peak is a galactically better player than than Ryan Howard is let me let me look it up. I think when Howard was this ole or when Ryan Howard was his old as Bryce Harper is now. Yeah. Has he hit idea you're that four hundred career plate appearances? Yeah. So there's that thing they also like there's a difference between Bryce Harper bad defender where like an inconsistent effort, but good athlete in an outfield quarter versus Ryan Howard who not only like his rages as far as he could dive offers space. But also can't throw the ball from. I the second. That's another huge thing. Harbors also better on bass guy. Like Harper didn't have that great offensive year. He only hit about two fifty. And there was all that that talk about how bad he was in the first half. He he still walked one hundred thirty times Howard never walked that much. So the only thing that Howard's really got on Harper is ROY power and Harper does just about everything else better. So let's look at the the Howard contract was what twenty twelve to twenty sixteen. So by that point that was aged thirty two thirty six. What's harper? Harper is going to be in what like as I do math in my head like the years, like six seven eight something like that of his contract. So like imagine that that if they were paying the same amount of money for a better player. But in addition they were also getting the years were Howard bay three all star teams in won the MVP and led the league in home runs twice. So it's just not an apples to apples comparison where the apples apples comparison. I think becomes interesting spinning this forward is does you know, how does this necessarily affect the future market for players like bets and trout, and I think like the Machado contract. Just earlier this month provided a reasonable template for the next Nolan Aaron auto contract we talked about this on Tuesday. But Aaron autos deal was kind of modeled off Machado's..

But the overall point of this is the eagles are by four the number one team in that area be equivalent like the keys in New York or the Lakers in LA. It's eagles Philly. So they want a Super Bowl with your backup quarterback. It literally is one of the great all-time sports stories like we're just telling all-time great sports stories right miracle on ice. Jim valvano? China win the NC double A championship. What's his name? Dude. Gonzales on the Diamondbacks. Getting the hit off Mariana Rivera in two thousand one for the Diamondbacks. I mean, there's a small handful of just all time just like storybook. Sports stories not like, Shaq and Kobe. I'm talking like, wow. You could make a movie on that. Nick foles is one of those. He probably a top five when you factor in the importance of football. I mean in this country in in society. I mean, you could argue it's like top three. It's it's it's you couldn't write it in a movie. So if a&e's don't wanna be mad about this loss, I eight and a half point underdog Nick foles will starting again, and you had a chance to win in the last five minutes, or at least just make it a game. That's that's incredible. At the end of the day. The eagles these last twelve months, you know, somewhat defined the NFL Nick full somewhat defines the NFL Doug Peterson establishing himself as a great coach. I think this is the one year where you can just kinda go, you know, what that was bad ass. That was sweet we were the defending champs everyone. Counted us out Carson Wentz..

This brother here was always so so good to me, man. I'm so thankful and great to see as part of the family buddy. I really. Oh, thank you. Thank you. Let's get right to it because I got now you now you used to get on me when I used to be in the clubhouse what you go? Philadelphia. Because you know, I'm a dollar Yankee fan. I used to Philadelphia. I used to Philadelphia. I used to say to Philadelphia and look, y'all talk about baseball in July June July. I wait till October because I'm a Yankee. We could afford to do that because we know what they're going to be there. Right. But I gotta admit to you. I'm pretty damn concerned about these Yankees because they got a one game playoff coming up Wednesday night against the Oakland a.'s, and I'm very concerned about it because I don't. Trust them, right. I don't trust them how you feel about the Yankees, considerate, Boston and Houston, and Cleveland on American League. I like their chances in a wildcard game. Really. I like the chances in a wildcard. Okay, Oakland at home. Okay. Because like you said, you'll Yankees. That's right. And when you're in Yankee Stadium, it's the mystique, even though it's the new Yonki stadium, the mystique is always there. So I think I like what they're what they're going to be going up against in the wildcard. Now, once you get out of the wild card, it's going to be a completely different story. I think they go against Boston. We've already seen what's happened during the season a few times. I don't think the pitching is going to be able to match up with what Boston has. I think the the Yankees get out of the car, but I don't think they make it out of the division series. Got one hundred, seven wins on the season. They've been absolutely phenomenal. We get all of that, but I gotta tell you something. I think the fact that they've been so phenomenal during regular sees Ryan puts them in a position where the pressure has mounted. We all know what they say about pressured breaks pipes. Okay. I'm. Listen, I'm going to Boston breath. I'd be a little bit nervous particularly considering the way Chris sale struggled last night with his velocity. You're not concerned about Boston, it'll well, like you said, it's pressure does break pipes, but it also makes diamonds if I am correct, sir. Yes, you're correct. I know why are you making your face like that? Trying to make that gives me like, you ain't got to be like, you gotta be like, go ahead, go here, but but but just like you said, I mean, it's going to be. It's all going to depend on how Chris sale is when he comes back and then also David price getting off the snide because I don't believe that David price has won a game in the postseason as yet great pitcher during the season, but has yet to be able to go out and kind of prove himself this post or in the postseason. I think he does. I think he breaks that breaks us not and gets off of that, and and he goes out there and I think he has some good showings out there in the in the postseason this year. We're talking to Ryan Howard right here with Steven a. on ESPN radio and ESPN news as I scoured the rest of the American League outside of the obvious dominance Boston during the regular season, I'm one of those guys..

"Of WC plus between high leverage tuitions and all other situations. Larry has eight difference of ninety nine points that puts Larry second tied with Robinson. She Reno's now as long as we're going to do this going all the way back to two thousand two, the best high leverage season on record for a hitter blogs to two thousand nine Ryan. Howard who's high leverage WRC plus was three hundred and three and the biggest difference on record between high leverage and all other situations also belongs to two thousand nine Ryan Howard with a difference of one hundred eighty points kind of sadly. But as long as we're measuring things twenty fourteen Orioles, Chris Davis is in second place. He had a very incredibly good high leverage season in twenty fourteen. So Chris Davis can always reflect back on his positive memories. They are mostly distant at this point, but I guess he does have at least one hit in his last ten games anyway. Chris Davis, very good and two thousand nine Ryan Howard, exceptionally good. Was that a Ryan Howard MVP season? It was not. No, that was his third place. MVP finish season Ryan Howard in in two thousand nine. However, if I can just read a few numbers from fan riffs because that's what the step last is. So I mentioned a WRX plus three hundred and three in high leverage situation. So just so you know what? That means Ryan Howard in two thousand nine, I leverage situations batted sixty six times. He had twelve home runs. He batted four zero four. He had an on base percentage of four seventy and slugged to one point one, four zero. So Ryan Howard, unbelievably good into those nine pretty quick player, Becca back then in retrospect, but you know all things passing then reputations go, right? All right. Continuing with emails. Joe says, race Harper has hovered between. Negative point nine and plus one point, five defensive war as defined by baseball reference throughout his career. This year, he is at negative three point, two defensive war. He's also at a negative twenty six runs of fielding that is defensive runs saved. This seems very low, like really low to look at some other outfielders historically poor seasons. And then he has a list here. We've got nineteen Ninety-three Kirby Puckett at negative three point one defensive war. We've got two thousand ten Matt Kemp at negative three point five defensive where we've got ninety nine Dante Bichette at negative three point, nine defensive or and then the champion two thousand nine Adam Dunn at negative five point, two defensive hor and Joe says, is this a historically poor season that we are seeing on defense for Mr. soon to be super rich guy, probably Bryce Harper. Yes. I guess by virtue of the fact that he is that high or that low. Oh, on the leaderboard it is. And you know, I looked at a obese stat, cast metric which I trust a little more for range at least in small samples. And Bryce Harper right now ranks eightieth of eighty four outfielders according to MLB's stat, cast metric, and he is at negative twelve on that leaderboard that is out above average. So whatever metric you look at, he has been a bad outfielder this year and that certainly seems like something that could have an impact on his free agency. Yeah. What's weird also if you look at as Harper hasn't released, slowed down, his still been above average runner, but in according to cast. Now this is just average ignores arm. And this also accepts all of the flaws that adds above average might have in two thousand sixteen Harper was four outs below average in two thousand seventeen. He was five outs below average. And this year he is twelve outs below average..

"Jer loves to rip on war, so I'll TM up like it again. Okay, good. So that'll help for this conversation the year that Ryan Howard won MVP one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine players in the NFL finished ahead of him in wins above replacement, including Albert pool halls, a full three and a half. Windsor ahead of him. Ryan Howard, a negative damn near negative to defensive defensive rating. So so there's that side of it where even like the good moments are like, well, wait a second. Like did he really deserve that? MVP? There's the other side of that, which is that chase utley and Jimmy Rollins were far more integral to the Phillies great run, I think than Ryan Howard. But you're also talking about a guy who went four seasons where over that span, he averaged fifty homers in one hundred and forty three RBI per year. Which you cannot love RBI as stat and still think that that's kind of cool. I don't understand the hate for RBI like, yes, I understand that it's dependent on your teammates getting on base, but you're taking the human element out of it. Like there's. There's a shift in focus when there's guys on base that's there still value in the RBI. I talked to, I, I talk about this all the time. You mean to tell me you don't put any stock into a guy who is in the highest of leverage situations aside from having the bases loaded who continually comes through. That's how I look at RBI's kind of like the win for the pitcher while there's a lot of other things that factor into a starting pitcher, getting the win, there's people that will tell you there's just something to be said for a guy who's constantly in the game or around the game long enough to get the win. And if he's constantly doing that, well, people would tend to call him a winner. And while the winds might not need as much the idea that he is performing consistently in a time where the team is winning, that means something. So a hundred forty nine times in two thousand six Ryan Howard comes up and drives in runs and. He does that in two thousand seven hundred thirty six times two thousand eight hundred forty six times and then one hundred forty one times in two thousand nine. As you said, Jay averaging fifty one hundred thirty over that time period. That's a big fucking deal pro. Sorry, that's a big deal. I don't care that. You don't like I and it's an archaic evaluation. Got it's timely fucking hitting its clutch factor because those guys got on base. Thank you pre sheet. It that was part of your job. My job is now to get you the fuck in off of that base. Look at me. Look what I did. I just did my job. Cool. That's really cool. That means something that it means something to me. So I'm with you crops. I don't understand all the hate on RBI. Like as far as an evaluator, like this tells me when. With a chips are down and a pitch needs to be made and a an a job needs to be done at the plate. This guy right here, he's prone to do it. He's he's more after do it than I think there's a lot of truth in that and we don't need to turn this into an RBI debate. But I think there are also plenty of opportunity or plenty of examples historically where a player produced one hundred RBI season and was demonstrably not a not a very good player, nor did he raise his his performance in the clutch. The example I would like to use his Joe Carter in nineteen ninety who drove in over one hundred runs his runners in scoring position. Batting average was two sixty eight. His men on batting average was two fifty two with a opiates in the mid seven hundreds given enough opportunities you can get there. I don't think that was necessarily the case with Ryan Howard, but you know, there's also the other side of Howard where like the final five years of his career or parts of five seasons. He slash. To twenty six to ninety two four, twenty seven and was like literally a net negative according to wins above replacement in four of his final five seasons. He was worth more like worse than negative one wins above replacement, which is kind of like almost impossible to..

The best player for those years but he. He came in and was amazing, and then when. He? Fell, off he fell off. Right he he didn't have the he didn't have the longevity of a career that role did no. Did it for a long time. They didn't sustain a torn achilles he didn't that that. Basically the, house career. Right there Yeah that's pretty much it was already counted The trajectory was going down sure now agreed. But, because he set the bar so high I mean Forty eight. And fifty something home runs like he could. Continue that but I think in two, thousand eleven I still think he hit thirty seven home runs. That year Even with even when he was batting wants something he was hitting twenty some home runs hit twenty five I believe. In his last year here and he. He hasn't been able to sniff the majors after he, tried a couple of times in in. The minors for a few organizations now I'm a big Ryan Howard fan I'm a. Big for, everybody's gonna call in and say, he, was overrated struck out too much take good of baseball reference or Google stats. Philly's fan has ever seen numbers like that but one of our players exactly and I'll give my right. Arm the have a Ryan Howard in his, lineup, right now could. You imagine if we could if the reincarnated. Ryan Howard back we can watch that, all over again our hitter gotta. Mean you, know 'cause a Ryan how was their those other guys got the eight ball they got. They got. Bitches to, see it was because. They didn't want to pitch, the Ryan Howard He was my. Howard was. "On in an everyday lineup and you know i think what he's done it's it's tough to kind of come in and out shine the great one right now might trout me but you know with the start that he's had he's he's kind of done that trout as trout and prosper and do his thing but i think the impressive thing is being able to go out there you know potentially throw throw a no hitter or perfect game and by the way i got the also got the game winning home run or something like that you know if he's planning a national league park lineup so you know it's a very he's a very dangerous player he's very athletic and it's fun for the game and it's and it's great and it's fun to watch really appreciate it ryan howard time he was a great today on the cbs four taste cues show i'm going to shift to something that is has another baseball i just got to talk about it because i am so so far behind in one of the cultural phenomenon of this year certainly it's movies we won't ask you about it because the other day she was like what is this movie you speak of it's actually it's a story stew on a on a screen you watch really cool i've kluger i finally went to black panther i i love the marvel movies i wanted to see it laurie and what happened is laurie and the kids i was working too much went without me which never happens and so they'd already seen it and the last night and my kids wanted to go again so i went to black panther very few movies these days are tv shows live up to the hype because when thumbing gets hyped aggressively there's such a height machine around it there's twitter the social media i can't remember clue if you're under the marvel movies or not i think you're not you should be i i.

"And i think there are a lot of people in the media there are a lot of people in philadelphia that are loving this kind of crash right now because i think when you think of the phillies you'd think of this bruising organization in the eighties and greg linski and mike schmidt and pete rose and chase utley and ryan howard and jimmy rollins and the and it's a tough pill for them to swallow with that said i mean it was a mistake not having anybody up you come out there but i but i but sometimes i think young managers you're trying to i think might be guilty of trying to put up too many fires at one time rich you know what i mean like he's trying to infiltrate this whole new way of looking at people looking at the system the game of analytics bullpen ing usage and i just found it the the only thing that i really i guess it's easy we could set a thousand miles away and critique manager critique a coach but on the opening day erin nola was throwing the ball so well and if there was one guy on that team that you can trust to go out there and give you innings and i really thought it it gave the braves shot to get back into the game and they took them yes we saw we saw with dave roberts in the world freaking series ger with richhill stuck in this bullpens well where's the field where's the feel and obviously we're we're just one weekend and i i understand but it just strikes me that have we reached a point in time that managers who are of the new generation where it's all about we well relievers are better in the sixth and seventh because the starters is very good third time around blah blah blah blah blah have we reached a point where there's no feel no feel zero field.

"Trading for trial was fifty five percent train for stands was at five percen and keep hoskins was around forty so it's hard to blink phillies fans for getting excited just because this team has had a whole lot worth getting excited about and this rail to serve now we talked a little bit how they've been sorta tripping of their own fee with guys like will ask as getting hurt jp crawford suddenly and distressingly not kidding so you know it's perfectly understandable too you know if you're not going to get excited about this than what the hell are you going to get excited about so sheriff very very cool i have no idea how to project him going forward but got the power is legit and like one in every three hundred of these guys like i hate for space prospects because one at a at a three hundred turns into ryan howard or paul goldschmidt or trey manzini's like trey mansi is like a 95th percentile outcome for a college first data so it's not generally not good business to get attached in but some of them do have everything go right and certainly that seems to be the the case for bryce could so far and then you know hoskins is i think five months younger than brice harper so it's not the earliest debut ever but he has hit at every minorleague level and his batted ball profiles have been pretty encouraging all the way up his guy who's historically made a lot of contact and hit the ball in the air and that's a good combination and there are a lot of players like him i think with similar profiles who have maybe gone under the radar a little bit as prospects and then outperformed as as major leaguers and dave cameron has comp tim to matt carpenter it's kind of a a similar profile or or daniel murphy justin turner that type of guy who wasn't really highly touted for his physical skills but really did have has skills that may be weren't being recognised so it has been a lot of fund and as he say it's been a a depressing.
