"What's up, man? How are you? It's busy week for sure when you blend the it seems like biannual crazy contract talks in boxing with the NBA trade deadline. Well, they kind of blend together. It makes for a lot going on there. But a lot of fun, a lot of fun. But I do want to talk first about this, this Ryan García tank Davis situation. I did a brief podcast on this on day it is anymore Tuesday, I think. And I just talked about kind of where we are. And where we stand right now still. As we record this late on Thursday, is that there is still no deal. No sign deal for Ryan García to face tank Davis, and that is entirely due to a rematch clause that golden boy said it never agreed to. Not specifically with the terms of the rematch, those are fine with both sides. Percentage splits, all that, how they change if Ryan García were to win. But the being the lead promoter, which is something golden boy is insisting on and which as the lead promoter they would be able to use their own broadcast partner that being disowned as the primary pay per view provider. PVC is pushing back, showtime is pushing back and they are saying, no, no, no. It's the same as it would be for the first fight. So before we get into some details on all this, give me your take from everything you've seen, heard, read, reported on over this past week involving Ryan García tech Davis. This is all Oscar De La Hoya, right? And the enemy he's just, I can feed with a shutter smile and let the negotiations play out. But you know, if you follow Oscar social media feed, the fight's on, we're ready to go. The fight's off. We need this. He's setting artificial deadlines. I mean, I blame this all on Oscar, right? Now, one thing I will agree with Steven Espinosa on, he said, I think to Marcos villegas in an interview that it's not uncommon for fights not to be actually signed until the week of the fight. That was the case in Mayweather Pacquiao. You know, they had that huge press tour around the world. They didn't sign the contract until they were in Las Vegas the week of the fight. You agree to the terms, but the problem is, you know, did they agree to the terms or did they not? Because Oscar said they did. Like, we don't have the PBC out there talking. We just have Oscar doing all the talking. And I think he just created he puts a perception on his sport. He thinks he's doing good by saying we're trying to make these big fights, but what he's doing is he's just making boxing look stupid by saying, hey, we have an agreement. Oh, no, we don't. We're close. We're not close. Now he's bringing up Regis pro grade. I mean, I think if Oscar was shut his mouth and not put an announcement out until the fight was agreed to officially buy everybody, then you have a deal. But like I wrote on my call in a couple weeks ago, the fighters basically agreed to all these terms in November. And now all of a sudden this thing's changing. Well, so the fighters definitely agreed to all the terms. And to be clear, none of the terms of this fight are changing. This is strictly a issue between promoters and networks. That's all amounts to. Tank Davis won't lose a nickel in these negotiations. Ryan García is a really between the networks. It's really the promoter. Well, it is, but it is between the networks at this point because if golden boy gets their way, a rematch would be on his own pay per view. If PBC gets its way, a rematch would be on showtime pay per view. What I said on Tuesday remains true today. Nobody has shown me or even indicated that exists. Any kind of paperwork that shows that golden boy agreed to allow PBC and showtime to be the lead promoter. Similarly, there is not any paperwork that says PBC or showtime agreed to let golden boy and his own take the lead on a rematch. This feels like Kevin. And this is more kind of my interpretation of everything. But this feels like both sides kind of assumed that they were going to get their way. Golden boy assumed that, well, Ryan García wins a spectacular wins by spectacular knockout, of course, we become the a side, we will put on the show. Whereas PBC says, well, look, tank Davis is a bigger star than Ryan García. When it comes to these negotiations, we're in control everything in all this. It just seems like this was not appropriately discussed before the contracts came. And once the contracts came, that's when golden boy said, no, no, no, no, no. Red line right through this. We're not ultimately doing it. That's the way it feels to me at the moment. I just look at it. I go, it makes sense. I agree with Oscar from the standpoint. It makes sense. Whoever wins the fight, your network gets to promote and put on the next fight. I mean, that just makes the most sense. But even in Oscar's history, right, if you remember, I covered the Trinidad De La Hoya fight, which was called the fight of the millennium. I mean, that was a big fight at the time. Why do we have to put everything in such broad terms? I remember being at SI when De La Hoya versus Mayweather was the fight to save boxing. So and I wrote a column about your lead at your cover on that. Yeah. No, I mean, it's ridiculous, right? But the point was, that was a massive fight at the time. And after Trinidad one, you know, Don king held a press conference the next day at the Las Vegas Hilton. And he's like, flip the deal, flip the deal and just want to, you know, all the terms that they lo had to go to Trinidad and vice versa. And Oscar was like, no, no, no. I'm the ASAP. You know, so now when you look at it from that standpoint, Chris, it's like he forgot what his personal history was, right? And they never did rematch because of that specific thing. But I think cooler heads prevail here. I think it's too big of a fight and it's too, they're going to look like, I mean, hey, this is boxing. But they're going to look like total jackasses if they don't get this done. Especially Oscar. You know, at least Al hayman hasn't been out there or Tom Brown hasn't been out there talking about what's going to go on. But I think Oscars, you know, all these deadlines and it's on its off. He's going to look like a fool and I think that everybody involved in this thing. I think we'll get it done, right? I think they're trying to use leverage and both sides are trying to do that. And it's the boxing way and it's one of the reasons why boxing is such a wonderful sport, Chris. And when you have grade 5s like this, you leave with an exhilarated feeling, but we have all this freaking nonsense that is put on by people outside the outside the ring that just makes you get sick of it. Yeah, there's a lot of gamesmanship going on at the moment. PVC and showtime, people are trying to pit Garcia against golden boy, not hard to do, by the way, given their recent history. People trying to, I'm getting text messages about trying to get ask Ryan trending on Twitter like, you know, come on. They're just stupid. My take on this, Kevin. Just my opinion here. And again, I know I broadcast for the zone if you want to think I'm swayed by that. Fine, I'm not. But PBC and showtime got everything they wanted in this version of the deal. Of the fight. Everything. Quite literally everything. Tank Davis is getting the lion's share of the split. PBC, Tom Brown, lead promoters. Showtime, they are the broadcaster. The zone gets some distribution rights, a little bit of money,

"I don't get it either. You know, in the first quarter or first half of 2023, that's it. You've got options on the table. You mentioned the weight too. I don't even know if he can make middleweight anymore. I believe this upcoming fight is going to be at a catch weight as well. Some were above one 60. And he's talked about going back down to middleweight for one more fight, a world title fight before campaigning at one 68. Like my nightmare Keith is he wakes up early next year. I'm a super middleweight, and then starts taking tune up fights at super middleweight. After taking two of fights at middleweight the entire time. It just doesn't make it doesn't make any sense. The fight as we just alluded to to make is Gennady Golovkin. That is the massive fight for Jaime mongeau. It's marketable. I think it's kind of a 50 50 fight right now. Maybe probably favors mongi at this point given what we saw from golovkin in the last fight, because mongeau has improved a lot over the last few years. He's a much better offensive fighter than he was early on and he was always pretty good offensively. His chin, a lot of his opponents have told me is really good. I think that'll hold up against some bigger punchers. This is his time. This is opportunity. I mean, you see Canelo out there and people nitpick who Canelo fights, but Canelo is always like, I want to fight the very best. I'm going after all the title holders. I want to rematch with Dmitry beeville next year. Meanwhile, you got mongeau doesn't seem to be chasing anything. Just sort of chasing a paycheck, which is fine, I guess, if you wanted to get paid and keep your unblemished record intact, but it's just getting old at this point. Everybody knows it. I mean, I think golden boy knows it at this point. I'm sure that, you know, the TV networks know it at this point. It's just, and sometimes enough is enough. It's time to say, you're going to fight somebody big or go somewhere else. And the other thing that's frustrating about it, Chris, as you mentioned, he's a good fighter. I mean, particularly from an offensive standpoint, he is very good. He's entertaining to watch and he's got what seems to be a granite chin up book that'll crack at some point against the wrong guy, but he's a talented guy who's a fan friendly fighter who seemingly should have confidence, which is what makes it so frustrating that he's fighting the kinds of guys that he's been fighting. Yeah, it's crazy. I don't even know what the odds are for this upcoming fight. They're probably massive against Korea, but next year is big. I hope he and golovkin get on the same even if it's for like one version of galactic's title if he has to drop the other one because he takes the fight. That is a huge, huge fight and a marketable one and a great one. I hope we get to see that. Next year. Finally, let's talk a little bit about where we are with tank Davis and Ryan García. I've been reporting a lot on this over the last couple of weeks. And my understanding is, from a contract standpoint, and now television logistics standpoint, they're basically there. They're right there with this fight. They agree with the financial terms a while ago. That was something that was remarkably one of the first things they were able to do. I think Ryan García's side was pretty amenable to being the B side and virtually every possible way. And I think that helped grease the wheels a little bit to get this deal done. The television side took a lot more time, but from what I understand, it is going to be some version of a co pay per view between showtime and his own, which is what it always should have been, Keith. I made this, I was talking to somebody and I kind of made this analogy because I think fighters should love the idea of co pay per views, because they get all the assets that both companies have, pushing people to buy that fight and presumably pushing their purses up or the total pay per view buys up as well. It's like someone from the Lakers being like, no, being offered to be put on TNT and ESPN and them saying no, if you're the athlete, you say yes, you want them all. I get why promoters don't want to do co promotions. I get why networks don't want to do co pay per views. But if you're a fighter, you want this. You want as much exposure digitally and linear as you can possibly get. So I think they're there in a list. I think the big question now, as we record this on Thursday morning, is what will the date be? They initially had been targeting a date in January. That could wind up being pushed into the early part of the spring. But I can say this pretty confidently. That when it comes to all the major deal points, including how it's going to be broadcast. This deal is basically done. So I'll ask you this kids. This is my reporting. I'm kind of putting out there. In the aftermath of Crawford Spence failing spectacularly and devolving into a weird Instagram, whatever turns cropper did that a Twitter fight where they talk about hedge funds and all this other crap. Does it surprise you? That we are at the proverbial one yard line with Ryan García tank Davis. Yes, because we've become accustomed to these things imploding. But I would say in the aftermath and the wake of the Terrence Crawford Errol Spence thing, they needed to make this happen. The powers that being needed to make this happen more now maybe more so now than any time in recent history because you can not continue alienating the people who support this sport. In effect spitting in their face every time a big fight comes around and coming around with a multitude of reasons why from a business perspective why the fight doesn't happen because fans don't care about that. For the love of God, just give us some of the fights that we want. The defense Crawford thing, you know, that's going to linger for a long time in terms of leaving a bad taste in the mouths of people who financially support this sport. And with the fan base ever dwindling, you can't continue to turn off those people and force them to basically force them to spend their dollars and their time on other sports or other forms of entertainment. So they really needed this fight to come together. It does seem like we're on the path here, Chris towards some sort of announcement of the fight, that both fight, particularly when both fighters have been very vocal publicly about stating we want the fight. I don't care about disown. I don't care about showtime. I don't care about how nobody said that, but I don't think that's allowed. But the point is they've been very vocal about wanting a fight. And when two fighters express that type of willingness publicly to do a fight, and then it doesn't happen, and, you know, the fans are going to be bitter. And the boxing fan base is already quite bitter as we know on Twitter, you know, on the forums on our website. I mean, you know, these are these are cynical people and rightfully so, to some degree, but it looks like we're finally getting one of the fights that we really want to see. And honestly, commercially, what might be the biggest fight outside of the heavyweight division we discussed this on the podcast before that we think that tank Ryan García because there are crossover appeal and there are different audiences and everything might do more pay per view buys than Spence Crawford. It's certainly not a more meaningful fight,

"See this on video. Keep just flex. What's up, Keith? Oh, it's a big, big game this week. Gonna beat up on your past a little bit with oh, come on. Yeah, okay. That's how it often works out with jets patriots. Tom Brady's long gone, man. Glory days are over my friend. All right, there's a lot I want to get into this week. I want to talk about Jaime mongeau's upcoming fight in air quotes. I'm using that. I want to talk about the negotiation tank Davis and Ryan García, but I want to begin Keith with what we saw last weekend. Jenna Beck, whose name I've decided on this podcast, I will not try to pronounce because I'll just screw it up. The wbo middleweight champion. He defended his title over the weekend, didn't look great in a decision win performance. He has been a guy Keith that is being touted as the boogeyman. We've had buddy mcgirt saying he could beat every middleweight in boxing right now. He has shown real power throughout the early stages of his career, but when you watch that fight this past weekend, did we see any part of Janet Beckett exposed? Did we learn anything new about Janet Beck? Look, I don't think he's a one punch knockout puncher. He has shown some power and he did knock out the opponent that Jaime mongi is going to fight on Saturday in the second round like face first. It was a picture perfect knockout two years ago. But I think he's more of an accumulation puncher. I don't think he's a one punch knockout artist, per se. I was surprised and I think a lot of people virtually everyone who watched it was surprised that Denzel Bentley was still standing in the 5th round. I think maybe to some degree, Denzel Bentley might have been a little bit surprised that he was still standing in the 5th round. And that's when he gained the confidence to start letting his hands go, realizing that he could take John of X power, and then it turned into a real fight. You know, I thought over the last 8 rounds of the fight, you could certainly argue that Denzel Bentley won half of those rounds, maybe 5 of those rounds, but he gave away the first four rounds. So I thought that Janet Beck and it's Chris somehow it's pronounced. Alejandro. I don't really get that the way that it's spelled, but what do I know? I butchered a couple times and once I started talking about him last week, I'm like, I'm just going to go with you. Top rank is going with Jenna back. That's his name on the poster. And they changed the way they spell his first name because they thought zano Beck would be mispronounced, which it would be. It's like golovkin's last name. Exactly. All of a sudden our first name. Gennady, all the son had an eye on it two years ago. We find that out often. Dimitri even has changed the spelling of his name apparently, but anyway, you know, Jedi Beck is, he's a good fighter, man. And I want to see him tested more than he's been tested so far. That's going to take some cooperation from the right guy, of course, but I don't know if exposed is the right word because he definitively won the fight, but you know these pre fight narratives. We write with bob arum says and whomever is saying before the fight and they're laying it on a little thick. I mean, he's the boogeyman. He's this, he's that. People have been reluctant to fight him primarily because he's not well known even among boxing fans. I mean, boxing fans are aware of who he is, of course. He's the wbo middleweight champion, but he's not a high profile fighter. So the way some guys might look at it, including Jaime mongeau, well, what is the upside of fighting him? I'm not going to make an enormous amount of money. Now, of course, now you can get your hands on one of the middleweight titles, which is valuable and gives you some leverage. But he's not the highest profile guy. So if you're a middleweight with options, you know, you might want to fight drama Charlotte if he ever fights again. You might want to fight gennady. Of course, can I go into a big star? You would want to fight him. So I get it from that perspective. Someone's going to have to fight him eventually, or he's going to be in a position where he continues fighting British fighters who are willing to take the fight. And kudos to Denzel Bentley and poor Dan and poor Danny dignam, who was destroyed in the second round of their fight, but give the guy credit at least ten other guys turned it down and he said, yeah, I'll go fight them. He was in over his head and he got knocked out in the second round, but he took the fight. So you have to give those guys credit particularly Bentley because I think he really changed the course of his career by fighting the way that he did. He's going to get another payday, particularly domestically. He's going to get another payday off for this. And he should. Look, I think Denzel Bentley can win some fights at middleweight. He shocked me. I thought he'd be down and out third, fourth round. That'd be the end of it, but he hung in there and as you said, he did win some of those later rounds of the fight. I got to get to work on my conditioning because I thought he wore down in the second half of that fight. I mean, you've got to accept that when you get to higher levels, you're not going to knock these guys out. I mean, you're going to have to go ten, 11, 12 rounds in a lot of these big time fights. And I think he's still incredibly talented and fighting a hard hitting southpaw is nobody wants to do that. Nobody wants is going to volunteer to fight that guy. But I think he is going to have to work in his conditioning as his career moves forward. You mentioned golovkin and there are some parallels there because golovkin couldn't get anybody to fight him for a number of years. Do we know what he's going to do? Like at this point, he's got a couple of mandatories that are in the process or have been ordered. And they're not very lucrative fights Keith, like golovkin's kind of in a position where he's either going to have to vacate one of his two major titles or take a fight for probably considerably less money, right? I mean unless you can get like the Middle East or a foreign country involved, I don't know where the kind of revenue he's been used to getting is going to come from here. Well, that's the interesting thing with golovkin Chris because he was seemingly very happy to announce that he was separating from the zone after his third fight with Canelo Álvarez. And what I was thinking when he was saying that, I understand it from a personal perspective, he feels wronged by them in some way. Look, we should all be wronged and paid that kind of money, I guess. But, you know, he feels that he's been wronged by his own. So he wants to go out and test the market and try to fight. Don't you hate it when guys feel wrong when they're paid millions, don't you? Well, that's what I'm saying. I mean, we should all be wrong in that way, right? I mean, I want to be wrong. Sign me up for it. I don't like to getting punched in the face part, but yeah, sign me up for that. But what I would say about the love can is I think he's going to get a reality check in some sense because he's going to go out onto the open market with maybe a false sense of what his value actually is based on what he's been paid and which fights are unavailable for him. People are not going to be tripping over themselves to overpay for Gennady Golovkin mandatory defenses when he's 40 years old coming off a loss. He looked, he was competitive with Canelo. He didn't get embarrassed in that fight by any stretch, but he lost.

I don't waste energy. Why would i waste energy. Move ahead when he nine mcdonagh punch. I'll move my head when it's time to go punch you were these Move but don't worry you're gonna see me dance. Nats all over tank davis into around. You're going to see that that's for sure to rows in the second minute of that round to be exact rounds all gonna take me to knock you out devante The truth and you know that. When i see you know to rounds out code. That's all it is so let me ask you about that because you did call tank immediately after the fight after the fight tank tweeted that you know who you talk to ten minutes before the fight the fight is already made. Who did you talk to. he's trying to make. It seem like we. We talked about contract we talked about. You know the exact details of it man. Don't let them paint that picture. The truth of the matter is. I talked to allie him for five seconds. All i said was good. Luck charm. go get him. That was it. There was nothing more to we need to talk. Leading mentioned tanks. "Forward you were pressing him the entire fight. What was behind the thinking there. You don't box the boxer. I mean you're kinda dumb. If you do that you know. I knew that. Going to fight his whole life. He's he's boxed his whole life. He's a boxer. He don't go forward. have you ever seen luke campbell. Presa fight forward never in your life. So why would. I wanna do that with him. I changed my ass off. And i'm not even aggressive fighter. I train my ass off to learn that style. And i did in i mean is my first attempt to really dig down a walk somebody down. I'm not yes not even my nature but I did it. You seen identity. And i'm happy. I made that decision because it worked out. We were talking about this before we started. But i had scored fifty eight fifty five in favor of you going into that seventh round alu obviously gets a ten eight round in the second. A lot of people in the uk thought. The fight was much closer. But i didn't. Because i thought you were winning rounds. Even though we had his guard up. I thought your punches were so strong that they were getting through his guard were they. I mean we're your punches. Getting through almost definitely you see. And i was combination instead of one punch and one of them got in anchor which you say i kept. I think it was like always that last punch to catch them with a you know i would always hit him with that. Right hand at the end of it and i was in control. The fight you know. Boxing is about having a sense of. Who's winning the fight. I was controlling it here. No control over the fight. I mean some moments. I had a stall and think omar approach but most of the time i was thinking troll pressing the fight landing. My shots luke was trying desperately land at same shot again. Wasn't working out from him and i felt like he didn't win any other around in the second round and to be fair. You could argue that. I did get that ten nine. I won the first half of the second round. god drop. What did he do to to to stanton that win on the ad. Didn't i came back. And i won the second half of that round so you could argue. But i'm not mad at your ten eighth but here's the real question. Why are we talking about scorecards if he got knocked out That's why the judge that are not needed. Are we talking about cars. You know what i mean. No you're right about that..

"The best could possibly have I was just happy how it turned out. I don't. I'm not mad at the knockdown. I was after the fight for a quick second with a now. I should like well. Gee was great so so. Take me through that. You've never been knocked down in your career. Have you ever been dot knocked down in sparring. Yeah i been dropped in spine but When i was very young. You know. I've been i've been job i was actually you know when i was like fifteen sixteen. I got dropped respond. But it wasn't nothing crazy. I got up and went right to him the same way so it was like kinda like similar to that in china when i was like eight years old. I think i got dropped to the body. A hurt on never forgot that. So i think that all prepared for that moment in then i never got dropped in a real fight. Professional or amateur never got dropped amateur disbarring but as far as far i mean people get knocked out a spot. I've not maybe. I can't even count. How many people have knocked out. But it doesn't matter how many people you not sparring. So what happens in a real fight so take me through what was going through your mind there. You go down. And you're on the canvas for the first time. There's i think ninety seconds or so left in the round. What are you thinking I kinda will. When i look back at it a i got hit with the It was kind of odd my ankle before i stepped into the ring was out of nowhere. Felt like he tweaked little bit. And i was like what the heck okay whatever ignore it got in the ring first round. I didn't even pay attention to it. And then in the second round. Before i get dropped i think about my ankle hurting and then i look and i react. It wasn't because i didn't put my hand up here..

"We already knew a few things about ryan garcia before. He stepped into the ring last week and we knew we were popular. We knew he was powerful. We could draw crowd when he left the ring. He also became accomplished garcia. Stop luke campbell. In the seventh round is eighteen th knockout in twenty one fights the most significant win of his career and it puts him right in the mix for all the high level fights in twenty twenty. One ryan joins me here on the show. Right let me start here the best. Dm or text message that you got after. That win was from who really. Yeah how to be manny pacquiao. I mean those awfully off the other great people that message me but the one that meant the most me was many pekka He said congratulations and then He said ryan. It's your turn to inspire others feel. It made me feel real good. I still feel good about it right now. You reply banks wanna fight now. I wouldn't do that now. So is geraci. It'd be different story exactly. I just before get into the fight your corner watching it cracks me up because eddie renault also is so demonstrative moves around a lot speaks loudly. And you're sitting there. And like i know there are bits and pieces. You're picking up what he's saying in spanish but you see your head kinda look your father every few minutes like what's what these what's these a no i. I knew what you were saying Just guess my dad confirms what he's saying exactly but Yeah mimi eddie of been in the gym he the only thing is i might in a fight. Sometimes i do get a you know i get you know emotionally if you want to say you know i feel the fans in phil everybody so when when i feel it's time to go after and i want to you know. Get him out of there. Get a chance to so Yeah there's a couple of times. I could have been more little relax. Whose idea was it to be carried to the.

"About you. Where do you think that campbell will go from here. Gareth mentioned earlier that you know. Look like all fighters campbell. Luke campbell is a very. He's a proud fighter stubborn fighter. I can't see him accepting appoints career. Where he's going to become a name for other big fighters individuals. So i would like to see as gareth mentioned. Get a lot of rest than any brigham back. Get that one fight. Where he's back in the mix. I wanna see him. Beat a top ten light. That's really the one thing missing Resume he had goodwin's on the way up looting when he'd be on any men this he needed to try to beat Yvonne mandy. that's really his best win right now. otherwise he's been a bridesmaid. you know which. It's an unfortunate because he's much. He deserves much better than that. But he's lacking that signature win in his career so at some point he's gonna have to find that whether it comes after he gets a you know a comeback fight and maybe fight for big idol. Maybe he'd be that type of guy. I just wanna see how much longer he has left in sport where he can accomplish something like that. I would really like to see him accomplish it. Whether it's for beacon titled or beating that type opponent. But i. I need to see that went from him to that you know. He has that ability to not even just win a belt up to the expectations. He had one after one of the novel. If he wanted to stay at that level he could rematch. Helen auras by the way that was such a close fight. I mean i mean it was a split decision. I mean i had him winning it by a point i mean. I know you don't always agree with my scoring mystic cacophony us but the thing is that that that might be quite a good match for him. That's an excellent. Because exactly maybe joe in the uk this time so that you know those kind of things dissuade toward him but that would keep him at that level..

"There isn't boxing until late in the january I mean god. It's brian garcia above. All the others in the division has the world is at his feet because of that social media following. And he doesn't he. Almost he could almost put his fights on youtube but not need linear television anymore. Or linnea media. It's it's so extraordinary. It's just it's just. I find it staggering and i think as i say failed truly woke by what he produced on on saturday night and i think it was reflected in the excitement. We all had on the broadcast and the deluge of caca phoniness noise in the major. Look i think. I think that garcia behind five by phil thanks but Yeah look i can see. I would take garcia overseas. Wants the pandemic lifts. I would absolutely start to make him a global star. No question about it jake. Let me ask you about about your vodka. Because i look at your vaunting away. In a similar way i look at loma changsha whereas at one thirty gervasi is really tough to beat. His power is legit at one thirty in the handful of times he's moved up to one thirty five. It hasn't been quite the same. And maybe that's he's not. He was going up because he was overweight at one. Thirty wasn't naturally filling up to one thirty five. What do you think of your vont at one. Thirty five because he starts a square off with garcia taffy. Mo- any of those top. Your guys even devon haney. He's going to be out of significant size disadvantage going into those fights. Yeah that's a very good point and the only the only time. I've really seen him as light. It was a very undisciplined performance against your camposano. Feel like that's a true measurement of capable of as i mentioned he's training through the holidays trying to give the perception that you know he's taken weser. I believe he is. I think he sees the superstar. That's you know in the realm within grasp especially because the fight wrangler by the same clean out winter. I'm a big fan of like if you're good at your weight you clean out that vision. He has a pathway to clean out. One hundred thirty pounds because it doesn't have a lot of options even within. Pbc birds there. I'm going to keep talking about a fight with gary russell. That's not gonna make sense unless you could do it in baltimore. Dc and you can't do that fight fans are back. So why would you put that fight behind. Closed doors in connecticut or even in texas where you know. It's not really attractions. Either guys. fan. Base although davis cantrell anywhere so i i would like to see him find a way we just clean out one thirty and then one thirty five by my drink. Scenario one thirty five is that rangel does by devin haney next. If he beats him taffy mellow pests is not sticking around at this much longer. One to to fight stops. He wants to fight three times this year. My guest is by the ears already. Fight one twenty. So haney garcia if they fight next then you fight fight fema lopez inactivity as old southward advance no or any of this. No undisputed champion of is finally settled. Even the winner moves up in weight. At least we get that fight in the meantime..

"As far as i'm concerned gareth what are you thinking in the uk watching garcia. Go down in that second round because sitting ringside like i almost feel the keyboard warriors. Start to warm up and right like hyped social media sensation. You guys made too much of him. What were you thinking watching that happen. Well i think apart from the fact that it was a cuff cocco phony asli remarkable performance I think in all honesty. I think if you look at the weaknesses of ryan garcia. He fights with his chin very high for a start. So it's not without kind of substance that luke campbell is not only a very tough fighter. But he's a very accomplished. Fighter is the most decorated amateur in british boxing history. And as you say he'd gone twelve very tough rounds with two elite level performance in hauling aris the brilliant venezuelan and also a vassal michenko. Who know almost too much about I think in many ways. I do agree with you and i think you said it on the broadcast and i think we we agreed with you. This was the birth of a very young superstar and his future opponents. How small the rain also saw his future. Opponents may see that chin tucked in a lot more in future and he may be a lot harder to hit when he explodes. And i think that's one of the big learning curves champions heart to get up because he was buzzed. There's no question about it and not only that. I didn't agree with you as much. I mean i thought campbell fought back vary very gamely and i gave him another round. After he'd been hurt in the fifth i think. Ryan garcia has. It's all and i think we've seen that's all students as well. I think coming in on the throne. As king aka a tyson fury against yonsei waldron february twenty third in las vegas was a very bold. Move which may have backfired. But in fact. I think ryan garcia in calling out very powerfully. Devin haney and devante davis since is proving that he ain't you know just a modern choirboy. Look kid from california he has genuine equalizing power that he truly believes in and those backing him believe it and i think we are in for an extraordinarily exciting career. He may be knocked out a couple of times but he is going to have the biggest fights on earth. He's got more followers than the best boxers in the world. Put together at the moment on social media. So i think we are in for an extraordinary rise with him. If that's enough of a of an intro online garcia let me follow up with you gareth. You're right. I think fifty seven fifty six at the time of the stoppage. I had fifty eight fifty five. If i could change one way. I framed and i think at one point that at the start of the sixth after the fifth round heard ryan was dominating he wasn't really dominant he was. He was winning on the cards on my my scorecard but luke was absolutely game in every one of those rounds. When you look back at campbell's performance was there more he could have done..

"Round robin a fights with all of these fighters and ball and if that is done i mean what an entertaining series that we will have for years to come and i think that's the ultimate hope. That's why i know. I have so much excitement about these guys. That are around one thirty five and i think a lot of the fans have that station for look. Don't give us some Cheap excuse for an opponent we wanna see you again in their against one of these guys and if you're not doing so then you're going to be called out as a you know Doing the the old boxing fair of of waiting for things to marinate. "It's it's claim to fame and hangs its hat on the fact that it has the youngest demographics of the four major sports. Everybody wants to tap into those young demographics whether it's advertisers or or whatever people that are by buying the product ryan garcia can bring those in ways that no fighter. Today can do everyone. I respect all those young guys from tank. Who's who's tapping into that. Urban market share tapped into and look devon. he's trying to grow as brand taffy. Mo is already the most established one. Thirty five but ryan. This guy ryan is the guide to me lance that before every major fight. You're going to have. Maybe jimmy fallon wanna have him on or kimmel and all the talk show guys want them on that because of his cannella could have been that guy but because he doesn't speak english chooses not to speak english as regularly as as as others. It made it made it more difficult for him to jump into into that role. Ryan garcia can jump into that role and if he can be successful and if he can continue to grow that brand in the right way he is going to have a massive following. He's going to transform boxing in ways that no other fighter can no floyd transfer boxing in away when he brought the urban market in in ways that no fighter decades ryan garcia can do that with almost different families whether it's women or young young other kids different demographic mexican kids things like that. I think he can do that in that same type of way in men. That would just be huge box flaws with the sport if he can bring in if he can harness the power of his social media and his highlight reel type of skill in the ring. It's gonna i think it's gonna change boxing in ways that we haven't seen in a long time you gotta root for it from that standpoint chris. You're absolutely right. And i think the the real mystery of this fight is how you know. Look like you mentioned. Tune first round knockouts the advancements that he's made in his game other than the significant power that he's made under eddie right now so and that's what's truly going to be revealed on saturday and that is the most exciting thing in my opinion about the fight. Because i'm expecting ryan to win the fight. Honestly i think that he'll do enough To find a way to have his arm race at the end of the fight but all the all the stride said he has made under. Eddie ray now so i mean i was talking about this the other day in a story i wrote..

"That for a second because look it's anecdotal but in the northeast area. I work out of boxing gyms and some of the guys. I work out with talk about how kids were teenagers. Want to watch ran garcia. Like i probably saw him on instagram and then gravitated towards him because his style is so fan-friendly he is and again this is anecdotal but he is bringing out. I think a legitimate new fan base. These are young. Boxing fans that are tuning in to watch him that are following him and i both know these are the fans that boxing has struggled mightily at times to attract on a permanent basis. What would a successful ryan garcia mean to boxing in your mind. I mean if he's able to not only beat luke campbell but let's say in twenty twenty one. He beats devon haney and tank davis to the top guys in hundred and thirty five pounds of his. You it's a lot to ask. We know ryan is is clamoring for that tag davis spite and evan haney is clamoring for the ryan garcia fight. And i think both those fights at least the haney fight theoretically could happen in the first half of twenty twenty one. But what would that mean for boxing. Like i don't wanna put too much pressure on the guy. But i look at him lance as being one of if not one of the rare crossover type of stars maybe the biggest crossovers having the biggest crossover potential since oscar de la hoya when della was always on the talk shows always doing you kinda mainstream type of things. It's not disrespectful to deployed or manny. They just weren't those types. We manny in part because the english. Barry jimmy kimmel stuff every so often but not not a regular base in floyd. Floyd made a lot of money being the villain right. People watched him to see him lose not necessarily to see him win. What would a successful ryan. Garcia mean for the sport. Yeah i mean it'd be huge for you. Know not just the fact that he has this existing audience. that is rising by the day. Chris and it's obviously going to build based on what he does saturday night. But like you said. I mean there's probably not a more exciting division when you look at the future of the division then lightweight when you when you factor in the names of devante davis and devin haney and even tia fema lopez being around there. Yes you know. These fights may ultimately take place at one forty but this is like this is like a decade's worth of Action to come and ryan garcia With his existing popularity has basically the opportunity to be the torchbearer and the guy who is is driving the most of pay per view buys or subscriptions or whatever it takes you know clicks on our stories because of that popularity. You're absolutely right. I mean i can. I've been approached by friends who had daughters you know. Hey are you going to a gym to see a ryan garcia. Can we tag along with you. I've got friends who have a young kids. When is that kid garcia fighting again. Because they've seen him out here In indio california. And that buzz around this kid and his awareness of of what drives popularity and the charisma that he shows is. I mean. the future is limitless for this guy. He just needs to keep winning These kind of fights and obviously it starts with the luke campbell. I think ryan garcia is the most important fighter this century for boxing. I really do because for all the reasons you articulated and it goes back. It sort of goes back to that young fan base like the nba. Sport that i cover as well..

"Nosso talk with them. They worked out a cooperative arrangement. Where the head trainer. But henry garcia is on board as the number two. And i think that's brought even more out of ryan garcia. Where do you do again. You've seen a lot of guys like how do you view garcia's talent. I think it's what's really interesting about. Ryan garcia is that he's involved in a lot of things. I mean like you mentioned the social media you mentioned like some of the are at least some of the tmz episodes that he's been involved in You know the the baby mama drama that he's involved in and all of that we say like oh us lance hasn't had baby mama drama happens. Well we sports writers. Maybe we have know Yes you know. I think the the thing is is that he walks is high wire of everything. Going on in a lot of us are a lot of the outsiders who are look at ryan garcia's are saying like. Oh he's going to be distracted by any one of these things but the truth is is that i think ryan garcia when he's in the gym. He's paying attention the boxing when he's in the presence of eddie ray now so he soaking up everything that he can possibly hear from this man. Same thing when he's rubbing shoulders with the stablemate canelo alvarez. They've built up a great friendship. That certainly ryan has capitalizing upon and listen to To become a better fighter. And you're absolutely right. I can remember. Chris being out here in southern california there were some i would say appears of ryan garcia who mentioned those flaws in his game. I can think of a conversation i had with. Daniel franko franco out here in his father. Al who trains them and they would say like. I don't think ryan's gonna make it. But like you said he'd looked he'd look. You took an honest assessment of where he was. He joined forces with eddie ray now so to make himself a better fighter and again i see with What this fight against campbell. He is a. He is aware of what he needs to do to win. This fight and i think you will see a completely prepared ryan garcia for this stiffest a test of his career. Yeah one thing. I'm eager to learn about garcia's what happens. After the first round like he's he's four no in his four fights with eddie renault so but the last two. The two toughest tests have ended after less than one round of peace. So i'll look luke. Campbell may get stopped. I'd be shocked if you've got stopped in the first round..

Gary Russell Jr. dominates Tugstsogt Nyambayar, retains WBC featherweight title

"Gary Russell. You know with an interesting figure. Because he's extremely talented fighter. We saw he scored a nice win against You know king tug in the mandatory fight that took place last week Everybody looks Gary. Russell has a great talent and a in a in a worthy competitor against any of these guys but he has said that he can't get the big fight now. If you can't get the big fight you take the next biggest one you can get and go out there and make seven figures every time you get in the ring for whatever guarantees are. He has decided not to do that. He wants to Fight Leo Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz findings. Your Monty Davis. Obviously that is not going to be therefore if you look down the list of guys at one twenty six or even at one thirty you know for him that our makeable that are going to be interesting to the public. There's not a lot there. He says he'd go up to one thirty five if necessary You know if there's no Leo Santa Cruz Fight. Against Tank Davis. I'll tell you a huge that at least in part of the country I live in the you know the the Washington DC Maryland. Virginia area is tank against Gary Russell. I mean one guy's from Washington and One guy from Baltimore they'd fill up any of the arenas in either city but again that's probably alongside so Gary Russell. He's kind of like a man without a country right now. He's he's got talent he's got a title he can really fight And he just doesn't have the top guy to fight against unfortunately so he's Kinda off to the side and you know he's only been fighting once a year I I would hope he would be able to find another before the end of this year if he does. I just really couldn't tell you who it's going to be against her. What kind of level? It's going to be one twenty six or one thirty Gary Russell. I think would be a threat either. Spotty Caesar's really
