"It's our two on this meet Friday, the traeger grills fired up. We're calling this a stir Friday, meet stir Friday. Thank you. Teriyaki chicken stir fry spring rolls. You can cook anything on those triggers. Stat of the day brought to you by panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show, and speaking of a stat of the day, the sun's trailed by 32 and a half ton, just the third time in the shot clock era, the home team is trailed by 30 or more points at halftime in a potential elimination game. The sun's also trailed by 30 in game 7, last year's Western Conference Finals against the Mavs. Style of the day star of the day scatter the day this is the state of the day. It's tough to go into the off season after a loss. It's really tough when you go in and you weren't competitive at all. The 76ers do have a chance on Sunday in Boston, Boston with the win last night, Boston was favored to win that game last night. The sons were favored to win that game last night. But it was just too much Joker and not enough Booker and Kevin Durant and you just don't have a balanced roster. You have no depth, top heavy, and some big changes in the off season. The question is, how much can you change when you gave up four first round draft picks, you gave up Mikhail bridges in camp Johnson. So you gave up depth and you gave up potential depth with those first

"That's where you were at the time. Okay. So graduate. You're in Harvard. I was the first year host of NFL network. And it was at the breakers hotel in Palm Beach, Florida, the famed breakers hotel, Al was leaving, getting in a courtesy car to go to the airport. Howard Katz longtime NFL executive and television executive, where they go way back to the worldwide world of sports day, says, ow, what would you rate the breakers? Al looks at him and says, two and a half seasons got in the car and went off to the airport. That happened. It is the best. He usually we'll see, I usually see him the day of the game. So I'll get a full night through. Everything that happened. But he is 1 million. He is he's a treasure, and then just last one, I'm assuming when the check was placed in front of Bezos, nobody reached, right? Nobody reached to the check. It was just, right? I don't think everybody even did the fake reach. Didn't even do that. No, it's like that Geico commercial, right? We just the fake alligator. Okay, very good. Ryan, I hope this is the first of many times you appear here. Thank you so much for doing it. And like I said, I really enjoy watching you in the rest of the crew on Thursdays. Thank you. All right, thank you. Right back at you. That's Ryan Fitzpatrick, formerly of Harvard, now of Amazon. Right here on the rich Eisenhower. Well, I guess once you're Harvard always Harvard, my bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Harvard University. I'm trying to get no, I'm just trying to get ready for that because I know Chris Carter's coming up next hour. I don't want to screw that up. Got it. I don't want to screw it up. Let's talk about them not getting crime for free. Huh? Let's talk about them not getting primed for free. So with that, come on, hook a brother up. That would never be me. If I'm sitting, I'm like, hey, Jeff, would you? Yeah. Jeff. Hey, Jeff. I'm going to call him. Mister? Jeff, your Jeff. I'm an employee. What's up with some prime? Prime, right? Oh yeah. There's an astronaut Ashton must know. He probably asked him, must know him. I'm sure he does. Absolutely. You know? Has nothing to do with me though. Why? You're friends with him. Okay. Throw to break? I think we should go to break.

"But he is that dynamic and I mean, I guess all the Ohio State highlights and things in games that I saw, his receiving core Ohio State. He has potentially four first rounders that he was throwing to. So Richard Sherman made the comment in the telecast like his receiving corps has gotten worse going from college to the NFL and it's not any disrespect to darnold Mooney and the boys, but that's how talented they were. He just this offense needs to play to his strengths. And right now his strength is not sitting in the pocket and throwing passes. He's having a really hard time getting through progressions. And there's been a little bit. There's been flashes of getting an outside the pocket and letting him just read one, two, three and make it easy on him. And they just need more of it. Luke gets the needs to get away from the green based style offense and played adjusted strengths because there's some stuff that he does really well. But sitting in the pocket, you're not going to win games with him sitting in the pocket and reading one guy putting his eyes down and running. Well, another guy you could definitely put in the category of running here to see you on Thursday night, you see him tomorrow night and Kyler Murray, what have you seen on film prepping for this game? Or are we just throw it out? Because there was no Deandre Hopkins, and that's going to switch up right now, Robbie Anderson's now. In that house, what do you make of the cardinals so far? Yeah. I mean, I think so one of the steps from last year when Deandre played there 8 and two and he didn't there three and four. And so I think he obviously for a quarterback and I played with him back in 2014 and if you remember all the way back to then that was kind of the first year that a young Deandre Hopkins overtook Andre Johnson in terms of being the number one receiver on that Houston team. He's such a great safety blanket for a quarterback because if you get man to man coverage, even if he's covered, he's open because of his catching radius because of how dynamic he is with the ball in the air. So that part is going to be good for Kyler. He's not necessarily a burner. I never has been, but it's probably lost a little bit. But he's still going to be able to get down the field and make those plays. I would say the guy that has jumped out to me the last few weeks. It was hurt early. Rendezvous Moore, who I didn't know a whole lot about. He is really exciting to watch. So I mean, I hope they're offense, gets going. The thing that is scary to me, the two divisional opponents they played the rams in Seattle. They didn't support touchdown versus either of those teams. So cliff Kingsbury offense, we always talk about the league just figuring it out halfway through the season. It seems like the league has this thing figured out, especially when you can't score touchdown in your division. Ryan Fitzpatrick of Thursday Night Football, prong video right here on the rich eisen show a few more minutes left with him. So Ryan, I know it's not your game, but Sunday Night we're all going to be watching the Steelers and the dolphins on a scale of one to ten Brian Flores and two otunga valois together on the same field in the same house where Miami and we all know what's going on there. What's the awkward meter one to ten? Ryan, we got for me on that one. I think they will avoid any interaction. I don't think you'll get your handshake or your bro hug before or after the game. I think it's an important game for tua, yes. He's because Brian Flores on the other side and I'm sure Brian is going to say this is what we need to do to this kid. This this and this. But for and again, what we saw Sunday versus the bills and then that Thursday night game following with the concussions and the sentencing posture and all that for him to come back. Hopefully being completely healthy and being able to get through the season without any more concussions. I think everybody's going to be dialed in in his rooting for him just to be able to stay healthy for the rest of the year. Well, I mean, I know this sounds like a tea spilling question, but whatever you're willing to share, what was happening back then when two was drafted you're there, you're playing, he's in, Flores was making a decision. It seemed like there was a that was a tip, and there was an iceberg underneath. Is that a fair assessment to say? Why? Yeah. I mean, you know, even as quarterback and on the front lines and in some of those meeting rooms, you still never really know what exactly was going on behind the scenes, but I've been in that situation quite a bit where they drafted to a high, obviously. It was going to be my theme until they felt like he was ready and that was the COVID year our buy got moved. I think up from maybe week 11 to week 6. And so the natural, whether it's after a Thursday night game where you get the ten 11 days or it's after a buy where you can put a young kid in and start planning and get a cheat and get a few extra days. That's probably one of those going to happen all along. It was just tough because there were some stuff too it wasn't ready for. It wasn't prepared to go out and do. But that being said, his progression as a quarterback, I think some of it you could point to that year and putting him in. The problem is we went ten and 6 and there were some guys on that team that felt like maybe I gave a better chance to win, but long-term for the dolphins. That was the better move for them to do. Sure. But I guess Flores were not copacetic or were you just sort of in between? What was it going on? And some of that got worse. After I left, there was an influx of offensive coordinators and they continue to change play callers and nobody was ever really good enough for the head coach, but to I think did a good job through all of that of battling through working hard putting his head down and I think this year he's been able to see the other side of it a little bit with the coach in Mike mcdaniel that completely 100% believes in him as a player loves him as a person and you've seen the results early for two and how that mental part just giving him some confidence has really translated on the field. I got a few minutes left with you here, Ryan. A few questions that I have burning here. You got a Thursday night game buffalo at New England. Are you going to show up without your shirt sit in the stands for that one? I know it's not in Buffalo, but that's the last time I saw you involved with the bills game was shirtless. Touchdowns? They did in that playoff game, I may go ahead and do it on set. Okay. Well, I mean, you could do it on, I mean, whatever floats your boat, I think the country would like to see that again quite frankly. How did that come about? That one. It was awesome.

"Down for those who are listening on terrestrial radio now, you just missed a segment where we were, I mean, mind-blowing facts. Mind-blowing facts should look it up. Joining us here on the rich eisen show after a lengthy NFL career where he just was one of the most joyous and enjoyable players to watch and now I'm enjoying watching him right in the middle of the set on prime videos coverage of Thursday Night Football where we're going to watch the Arizona Cardinals take on the New Orleans Saints and we are hoping for touchdowns joining us here on the Mercedes Benz vans phone line is none other than Ryan Fitzpatrick. How are you doing Ryan? I am good. I'm glad you mentioned the Harvard thing. I'm here cleaning my degree right now. Is that right? Yeah, something I like to bring up early and up and also Chris Hogan played lacrosse. Oh, I didn't know that. Oh, that's a good one. Get out of here. Wow. Didn't know that. Yeah, I heard you went to Harvard. I heard about that. I heard about that, so. Way in the past though, it's been a while. Has it been? How'd you get there, man? How'd you get there, Ryan? Very crazy. I did not know until I started getting letters from Harvard that they had a football team. And that was like junior or senior year of high school. Because I grew up in Arizona and it's not used to live in the day of ESPN U where I could turn it off. The Harvard play in Cornell battle it out on a Friday night. So I just didn't get recruited by many people, so I decided to go to the best school I could. So it was my fallback. Hell of a fall back. Hell of a fallback, man. You're doing great in the TV gig, Ryan. He seems like you're a natural for it and you're enjoying it. What perhaps have you been doing for this gig? I believe. It has been so much fun. I think part of it is we've got Richard Sherman straight off the field. Andrew Whitworth's straight off the field. Tony Gonzalez, who's like the obviously he's been doing this for a while on different networks. He's got like dad jokes up the wazoo. So it's like sometimes you laugh, sometimes you make fun, but and then Carissa Thompson's kind of our QB directing and making sure that all these rookies know what the heck they're doing. But it's been fun for me just to stay connected the fact that it wasn't a hard stop done playing football and done with everything in the NFL. So my prep and homework, a lot of it is watching football and that's something aside from Monday and Sunday Night games that never really been able to experience with my kids before. So it's been a lot of fun just to sit on Sunday and be able to sit back and watch the games with them. Ryan, Fitzpatrick here on the rich eisen show, what is going on in Denver? What can you diagnose for me what the issue is with the Bronco so far? It is hard to watch right now and maybe the hardest part about it is there defense is playing so well. So if they did anything on offense, they would be such a better team right now, but it's obviously hasn't been a good fit between Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson because if you look at their offense, there's talent and I think it's tough that they lost Williams to the ACL for the year. He was a big part of what they do, but it's not like Russell Wilson doesn't have guys to throw to. And sitting there watching the film. It's kind of head scratching because there are a lot of plays where guys are open and I don't know if you're just not comfortable with the reject or he's not comfortable in the offense, but there's just some stuff that I know coaching wise they can do better, but a lot of stuff that falls on us as well and he's never really been like at this point in his career where he's the one that's taken the brunt of the blame, but I think that's kind of where it's shifting at this point. Well, I mean, because anybody who makes that much, right? And is also puts himself out there commercials and memes and things of that nature. You're going to get those slings and arrows. That's just the nature of the NFL. What coaching stuff, though, have you seen that you think needs to be buttoned up changed here? Because the whole car. I think go ahead. I mean, we've seen the clock management stuff. We've seen some of the questionable decisions. Even in our Thursday night game, I know we live in a world of analytics and this is the win percentages and but there's a third down late in that game where Russell Wilson ends up throwing an interception in the end zone. And I'm just, you know, why not hand the ball off and kick the field goal to go up 6 because if anybody was actually watching that game, Indy could not protect Matt Ryan, it was a bloodbath back there. There was no way they were going to go down the field and score touchdown. I don't care what the analytics said or the winning percentage, it was an easy decision to hand that ball off on third down, get to the two minute warning kick a field goal, go up 6 and put it in the hands of your defense because they were playing so well and getting after Matt. Ryan Fitzpatrick here on the rich eisen show. And then the conversation surrounding Justin Fields last week and what we saw last week on Thursday night, we're going to see that front and center again on Monday night. He's going to have a nationally televised game. This is the Belichick defense he's going against this time too. And normally he will just chew up any offensively challenged team and spit it straight out. So what's your sense of Justin Fields is development having watched that in person last week, Ryan? Yeah, it was hard to watch and even leading up to the game. It was hard to watch because I did not know how good of a runner he is. It is, in my mind, Lamar Jackson. Justin Fields and then everybody else. But he is that dynamic and I mean, I guess all the Ohio State highlights and things in games that I saw, his receiving core Ohio State. He has

"And the Lakers appear to be still full of holes. And Westbrook is the guy that they're going to point to, even though he didn't have the worst night of them all. Just one game in, we're already talking about that. Man, I love the association. Just one game is hard and going to be the right guy there in Philadelphia. The one shot. A hardened look good. Right? Hard to look good, but that one moment where he shook off was at Marcus martial. And then had the whole wide open shot and shimmy. And then missed everything. If you're gonna do that, you gotta hit to make the shot. Got it. I don't know. Most of the time he does hit that shit. I'm just picking at it. I'm just picking at that sort of stuff. I'm already picking that the offense looking exactly the same with him dribbling a lot in the scoring. That's what I'm saying to you. Can I make a plea to Joel embiid please? You are 7 one. You're 280 pounds of muscle bro you're going to play about 70 games this year, and yet you hit the ground at least 7 times per game. It's amazing how many times Joelle hits the ground, right? And I'm no mathematician, but 77. That's like 490 times a year. He's going to have to pick that 7 one 280 pound frame up off the ground rich and he keeps falling. He's going to get hurt. I don't understand it. I don't understand. He took a fall last night and then immediately was like grabbing his head. Do you remember that? Then one time he knocked. Do you know this that? Is it just me? It's the ground way too much. I don't understand that. Well, hopefully, off season workout regimen will be helpful. I don't know how helpful. Here we go. That can be. The association's back, guys. I'm pretty pumped. The association's back. It's gonna be great. Congratulations. Thank you. I know you guys love that. Oh, yeah. Rich as a show basketball podcast. Season two, debuts tonight. There you go. Fantastic. And then another narrative of the NBA season will go down tonight when John morant choose up the Knicks like a play toy. Kicking off the ESPN coverage. That's very optimistic about you're saying the great Brunson. There's going to be able to stop him. There's a ton of folks on the old bandwagon. In Memphis, the lot of bandwagon hoppers right now. It's a good squad, man. I know. Remember how good they were. They didn't play. They are long and strong and when jaw plays, he's a totally different, it's a totally different ball of wax, isn't it? Highlight film. Now they're good without them, and they're great with them. And they're long and can play defense, and that's what can disrupt some team like say the warriors. And they got a little bit of attitude to them too. They sure do. And that will happen tonight. We'll talk about it throughout this three hour edition of the rich eisen show. Ryan Fitzpatrick's up first. How about that apples? Let's imagine. You got yourself an Amazon Prime game tomorrow night game 7 for a game 6 forms, week 7 for him, yeah, yeah? Arizona taking on the saints? And the whole conversation I would think going into this game is how will Deandre Hopkins just change the dynamic for Arizona Cardinals team that can't do a darn thing right? More than one third of the time and one third of the time is two wins in which they came from a 20 point deficit in Vegas and their only leader of the game was at the final gun when they kicked the field goal. And then Arizona Cardinals have got another win. On the road, taken down one would say a team that everyone should take down in Caroline. They are, they have yet to win at home, they should take care of business against the saints. We'll discuss a lot about that with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Another issue I want to talk to him about is what's going on in Green Bay. Is it my young jets that just punked him? What's going to happen when they go to Washington? Rumor has it that the packers are going to be in the trade market for a wide receiver. Deshaun Jackson just signed in Baltimore. There's an Odell Beckham free agency tour that's going to start happening very shortly. The trade deadline is November 1st. What's up with that? Will the packers go ahead and add somebody now that Randall Cobb is down for the season and who is who could that somebody be that can start playing for the packers and win football games for him? And then obviously what's going on with Denver? Did you hear Russell Wilson's got a hamstring injury that could be fairly serious? We could see Brett rippon for the Broncos on Sunday. In relation? Yeah. Is this son? I believe it's his nephew. Okay. Get right about that. Uncle, uncle Mark, Mark. So, nephew. Yes, sir. I don't know, as I said at the Broncos should take their stuff and throw it out. What if what if Brett rippon comes in here and starts dealing? As I said to you yesterday, there is a small handful of quarterbacks that would be immune to what dak just endured from the twitterverse and the 24/7 360 five sports conversation universe universe is like this one. In sports talk radio, very few quarterbacks would be immune from the maybe this backup should keep playing conversation. And Russell Wilson ain't one of them now. So Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to join us. Chris Carter is the subject of this week's NFL icons on epics NFL films produced epics, broadcast I do the narration for it. It's going to be great talking to Chris Carter who is Vikings and eagles played each other in week number two on Monday Night Football and are sitting both atop their divisions. And then. Chris will get a chance to see his Ohio State buckeyes on, big noon Fox for the first time this weekend. It's Michigan's honor by Ohio State taking on Iowa. And I'll start talking to Chris with a little bit from my chest since that is what I've been doing lately. I know you like that. Oh, yeah. And then our number three, a guest who has not been here since when? Our first full month of being on the air, right? November of 2014. November 20 14. Mark helgenberger will be here. She's back in her role that she helped create for the whole CSI over. She's in CSI Vegas as Catherine willows, her character from back in the day of CSI crime scene investigation, which took place in Vegas. Trust me, we'll almost make it make sense. And that's an hour number three. My power rankings are rich eisen show basketball predictions. Last year I got it right, who was going to win the NBA Finals tune in to hear my

"And then get out. Leave them with something where they go, do you hear what Fitzpatrick said? That's what you want. And if I go through a show and I don't remember anything you said, then you didn't do your job. Yeah, okay. Well, thank you for that advice. We'll see how I do. Yeah. But you know, no reason to be nervous. Are you more nervous about this than you were your first start in the NFL? Now, this part, I'm not going to say this part's going to be easy, but this is me getting to watch football and talk about football. So we did our first run through in a preseason game two weeks ago and the part that I enjoyed most. I got to sit and watch the first half and then put a clip together of Trey Lance. And four or 5 plays just to give everybody my perspective on what I thought. And one of the first things I thought, the first play of the game, of tripped up the running back, which maybe a lot of people didn't see or notice, but his mind was moving a little fast, even though it was a preseason game. He hasn't played a lot of games. He was nervous. And so picking up on some of those little nuances, that's kind of what got me going a little bit as I was doing my stuff at halftime was being able to see that, take my perspective and project it to the audience. And it's a great point you bring up. And I always use this Rodney Harrison came in for an audition, and he noticed that Tony Gonzalez lined up one yard wider and he said, we always knew it was a pass play. And it was so small, but you want to make your audience smarter and you have that ability with all the years that you played, different places, different coaches, different styles, different defenders, to be able to share that is really what's essential and having that ability to pick up on nuance is what separates average from good and good from great. So now I'm working with Tony Gonzalez. So I'll see if there's any tendency. Good luck, Ryan. And thanks again all the contributions you made over the years to the show. You're always available. We appreciated that. And we wish you well. All right, get that Prime Video app. Let's do it on Thursday Night Football, baby. That is Ryan Fitzpatrick. And it'll be Thursday Night Football.

"I mean, they they didn't play very well. Buffalo had four turnovers and still scored 31 points, but more so than the defensive performance. It was the offensive performance for me that was concerning. And I think you could tell early on, McVeigh, by the way, he was calling plays. He wanted to protect the offensive line. They were going to run the ball, they threw a couple the tight end screens and they ended up giving up 7 sacks, I don't know, it wasn't that Alan Robinson wasn't the big factor in the game. He was he didn't even get any targets. So that was their big acquisition, and he didn't even get a target he didn't get a wide receiver screen. They didn't try to get him going and also, I think there's some alarms that are sounding right now, you know, Alan Robinson and that relationship maybe with max Stafford and their dynamic and chemistry. It just didn't seem like he was looking at him at all. And that's a very important position to get that offense to go this year. He's Ryan Fitzpatrick, Amazon Prime Video Thursday Night Football analyst and of course former NFL quarterback, but can you look at this as a one off with the rams? Or did you see something that is going to be concerning? Well, I think, you know, I was more concerned with their offense than their defense. And Sean mcvay's their head coach. And Matthew Stafford is their quarterback. So, you know, I don't know if this happens two, three, four weeks in a row, yes, we're going to be really concerned, but my biggest concern coming out of it was the lack of opportunities for Allen Robinson and not even really looking his way. Even sometimes when the coverage dictated it, so I just wonder about that chemistry because it is such an important position in that offense. How much did your education play in? In processing or not play in, to processing, you know, week in and week out playing in the NFL at quarterback.

"Let's get into the injuries because there were unfortunately a few in week wants to find. We start in washington where ryan fitzpatrick com interesting. Play here. Look like he was going to get up for a second and then he kind of went right back down to the ground. What do we know about. Let's see if you look at the anger. You see his knee go into the ground. That's the mechanism for a poster. Hip injury If you recall to have an injury where his went into the ground you're basically driving the thighbone the femur towards the back end of the hip socket Ryan fitzpatrick had what is being termed a subway station of his hip. Essentially were they the femur slips part way out of the socket but doesn't fully dislocate and then repositions itself automatically now. The good news is that it wasn't a complete dislocation but there can be a lot of trauma associated with that both to the soft tissue around the joint but also within the joint itself. So it's really important I'm sure he'll undergo further testing today. That's the expectation to rule out any sort of fracture. Even bone bruise veer. The word bone bridge. Remember that's the microfracture Bleeding in and around the bone. This is something you really have to protect to protect the health of the hip. I would plan on ryan fitzpatrick being out for multiple weeks would not be surprised. I are at the

"They have an opportunity. You may not like Ryan Fitzpatrick. Ryan Fitzpatrick is not going to be the Washington football team's quarterback for the next 10 years. That's not going to be the case. But he has weapons to work with. Antonio Gibson isn't talked about in the NFL the way he should be. Terry McLaurin isn't talked about the way that he should be. And I believe that this is an offense that is going to be improved and that will complement what is one of the league's best defense is I believe in Washington. I think it will come down to Washington and the Cowboys as to who will win the division. Washington has the defense. The Cowboys have the offense the New York Giants or stuck somewhere in the middle, trying to figure out you know what Daniel Jones's and say Kwan Barkley going to last the entire season? How do we have to kind of move him along? New York Giants going to have to depend on their defense and hope that the offense doesn't stink it up. Speaking of stinking it up. This is another team that no one talks about. That I wouldn't be surprised if they surprise people and when it to the playoffs. This might be Cliff Kingsbury Swan song. If they don't go to the playoffs, maybe not, even when the division but getting as a wild card. He's done. He's gone. His pet project with Kyler Murray here is over. Colin Murray was playing out of his mind last year. The offense was absolutely amazing in the first half, and then they hit the skids. They lost six and nine to close out the year. Kyler Murray is complaining about his usage and how his legs should be utilized as a luxury and not all the damn time. We found out he was dealing with a shoulder injury. It's a shame the highlight of last year with the Arizona Cardinals. Was like a Hail Mary pass to DeAndre Hopkins against the Buffalo Bills. After that, it's just like everything with the Cardinals just went right into the toilet went right into the skids. They don't have that luxury this year. The combination of Kingsbury and Column Murray. They've gone 13 and 18 with a draw. That's not going to cut it. There's a reason that they brought in J. J. Watt. There's a reason that they held onto Chandler Jones, even though he asked for trade. There's a reason that they brought in a J. Green to hopefully add another veteran presence and weapons for column Murray even if AJ isn't what he used to be. This is a team expected to go to the playoffs. Rondell more is there Hopkins is still there. Obviously. They have too much time with the cards do not to screw things up. The only person who can do that. I believe Cliff Kingsbury. This is still a team. You think about the cards man. They were penalized more than anybody. Last year, they lead the league in penalties. They were two and four in their own division. This can't happen again. I want to be surprised if the cards if they turn things around, But you don't hear about that. You think about the NFC West? You hear about the Rams? You hear about the Niners? Even though they're trying to figure out their quarterback situation? When is Trey Lance going to get the full opportunity? How does Lance and Garoppolo you know? Split the those those wraps. You're gonna throw out Trey Lance for some deception and confusion. How is that going to work out for them? I like the cards. And then you also have a team. Maybe even the Dolphins I would throw in. I wouldn't be surprised if they were good squad. Obviously, that depends on to a tongue of a lower doesn't always seems that the organization believes in him all of the way. And so as we get closer to Sunday A full slate of NFL games of full slate of NFL action. Those are some teams that I don't think get get the attention in the respect that they deserve. Those are some teams that I think might sneak up on people. And have the potential to surprise. Because we all know about the favorites and the top teams to win the Super Bowl. We all know about the big superstars. What NFL team do you believe? Is the next to blow what NFL team do you think Is underrated and that people just need to watch out for I just told you about a couple Who has next. Man. I think it's the Chargers. I want to be surprised if the Titans surprise some folks, the Washington football team. And then the Arizona Cardinals. Cliff Kingsbury is running out of time. I'm going to open up the phone lines to you right now. That's 855 to 1 to four. CBS That's 855212. For CBS. What NFL team do you think is prime to surprise the league this year? Your calls When we return? It's the jr sport. Brief show, CBS Sports radio. We all know that hate crimes, harm victims and strike fear into our communities. "You hooked us up with the great interview And i was saying before this. But i'll say for the people so when we were coming here to to washington. Do this interview our pr person. Hey if anyone knows ryan fitzpatrick like we're trying to get in touch with him. I was like oh. I have is number 'cause willie cologne. Who the jets game your number and i texted you and i asked you if you do the interview. And you didn't reply you just thumbs up the message and i've never felt like more of a beta. I sat there for two weeks being like are we in or not because not even like Sounds good or yeah just a thumbs up. It was an immediate thumbs up to like almost instantaneous. And then no reply. Yeah i mean. I didn't know you were so self conscious. Meant it mentally messed me. Yeah that's on me so just know that that means we'll see it's good because like you if you're ever in court and you have to read a transcript of your text messages back to somebody if you're just like emphasizing message. I don't think you even have to say like ryan. Fitzpatrick emphasize this open for interpretation. Tell my kids under promise over deliver so the thumbs up what is it. You didn't promise anything but now over delivery guy. So what is your fastest time. Wanna cuba so. I could break a minute. Pretty regularly But then like my oldest son got to like twenty five seconds and it just was enough. I didn't. I didn't need to watch that anymore. So do you pick up a new thing like every off season some kind of hobby or something for a while. I did and it was like you know one off season i would. I bought rosetta stone. For some reason and thought i would learn spanish and and then like i the guys the guys that do the yard and air it would i live in arizona. Spanish-speaking guys in my wife always makes fun of me. 'cause i took a lot of spanish i'll go out there and i'll go to talk to him and i'll just speak english and a spanish accent right like that's helping the today what are you doing. You're speaking english so that that's been something you know. I wanted to take the g. mad and so for a while we wanted to take the g. media just stuff like that and that and then i was like it was doing my own taxes for awhile and then it just discuss your party in my younger days. Okay that's really wild But yeah now. It's just a birthday cake and just hanging. So do you have like i. I would imagine you still have some friends that you keep in touch with from harvard. And they are they just as shocked that you're you're seventeen in the nfl. Yeah i mean it's in. It's cool because they are now so established in what they're doing all the avenues that they're doing that For a while was like man. This guy's still doing it and now they really like everybody's coming out to the games like this has got to be his last season. This has got to be the so. That's been happening for like the last five. I've seen a bunch of them. But yeah i'd be there all. I think they're all very excited. That know i'm still in it. And they are always rooting for me. Which is nice. What was your record against yale. Four now oh hell yeah you can't you can't lose those. Yeah i got. I got a quote here from a former teammate. Ears his Pressing williams so when he was asked to describe you you. I'm gonna say already know. But i mean i. It's be funny because i can't imagine what he's gonna said ryan fitzpatrick that guy's piped up. Yeah we're piped up mean to you well one of the meetings which may be you. Have on your mind. Like whenever i bring my kids into the locker room pre cova. The one rule is is up boys. He drives smart. Yeah so it's not that kind of piped up I don't know prestons and interesting guy. When the fact that i think that's a compliment. Sure i don't think it's just means like salted spiced up. Okay we'll give your cooking. Pipe chicken real quick menu about to put some flavor on. I think he's saying you got flavor. Yeah i appreciate that p dub yeah do prefer piped up or the amish rifle so i'm kind of upset that that one died. I mean that was pretty cool when i was in buffalo. That was the deal. The amish rifle and i i mean i really the beard never got combed back then and if it did i would take the brush they with us on the ball and i mean i don't know why i don't know how to take care of myself. It was early. I couldn't grow facial hair till age. Twenty five was all new to me but Yeah that one's gone away. Unfortunately i like it. I i see we bring that one back. What so. we're going to buffalo on this trip. Yeah what's your favorite Wing place gosh. It's been a while. I mean the the big ones are anchor. Bars like originated is a big fan. And barring the ends. Barb bill was the one. I went to the lineman all the time Yeah but anywhere you go. I mean you can order wings. Doesn't matter what kind of restaurant it is gabriel's gates and other gabriel call wings. We've got to remember that we're up. They're going to know that. We're outside the buffalo wings in buffalo. And like when i first got there i ordered ranch and it was like they didn't record thing. Wait a minute. she's you know do you do you. I mean i don't want you to have to rank all your fan bases. But the bill's number one just because of the fanaticism and the fact that it's not a big city and how crazy those people are ya. I don't again like. I've loved a lot of the places that i played. I i really have nothing compares to the city of buffalo. Not not even close so this year your first year in washington obviously discuss earlier. Guaranteed at least ten wins. Which i i could see it happening. Honestly is there. Is there something. About like ron rivera in the off season process. Where you're deciding like where you want end up next. Was there some that made you wanna come to washington or was it like okay. Washington is the best of the following like three teams that are offering so for for me normally in as i go through the recruiting process. It's like there's one team that bring me in to have a chance to play and then there's a couple of other teams where it's a backup jobs so like i don't really have a chance or choice i'm going to wear i can play. This was a different year for me. My career in that added a few different options of places to go to play. And so i got away a few those factors and Coach rivera just what he did here last year. Just hearing about who. He is as a coach who he wasn't carolina the respect that the players have for him and even just the guys that have coach with him the building that he runs it just a guy that was a former player that has that perspective. There are a lot of different things that were very impressive about him. So that was a big factor in it. All right so. I have one last question This has been awesome. We appreciate you giving us your time. po oh what is it mattress firm on. Junked your sleep promo code or.

"I probably don't have much luck. Hounded birthday season go this year. Because i one of my favorite ryan fitzpatrick anecdotes is that you can attribute some weight gain in the off season to the fact that like all seven of your kids birthdays stack up there in a few months and years eating cake every other week. Yeah and Have gotten used to it. Now it's just like fifteen pound weight vests and i'm training with the off season. You know so i go. We do the birthday season. I feel good about it. I've got the fifteen pound weight vest and then two weeks before training camp hits. It's just panic not eating in trying to shed weight and now i feel i feel pretty good. I've nestled in right under two thirty. Which is a good way for me. I like that. There's a birthday season like all right. Strap it on. Let's go it's cake every day booking season put it that way you can probably try to change a stick around but then so i. I guess you know you brought up like all the different cities that you played in your good quarterback. You're very good quarterback is they're part of you that's like what the hell like. Why won't anybody ever commit to me at this point. It's part of my story and i. I mean the experiences that i've had along the way. Like i really yes. There are other people that have been in the same place for fifteen eighteen twenty years but the people that i've met and even the impact i've had in their lives the impact that they've had in mind i really wouldn't change it and and even a place like miami were. They needed a guy to step in for a year year. And a half just to keep the ship afloat and the kind of bring some of these other guys along like i take a lot of pride even in the success. They're going to have in the future here. I take a lot of pride in the fact that i was part of that so i i enjoyed. I enjoy being here having a young team and helping show guys the way in helping. Bring out the confidence in some guys. That may be lost it so i i really enjoyed it. Just my oldest is now in high school so as we continue to travel a continues to get a little bit more difficult. But i like pop and from place to place so i'm gonna make you compliment yourself some more because you can't have the career that you've had not be a really good team mate because you know i we've met a bunch of athletes met a bunch of guys who they aren't built to do different roles like either are starter or they're not in the league because they just can't have the mentality the team first mentality of all right. Maybe i'm not started this year. So what would you say if someone were if we were to pull all ryan fitzpatrick's teammates which i think is like fifteen percent of all players ever played in the nfl. What would they say. Like is your attribute as a teammate. That makes you teams. Want you all the time i mean i think part of it for me is i. I care about the individuals so it's not just it's not just a meat market out there. I mean it's not just we're throwing a guy out there and he better perform or like i care about these guys the field too and sitting in the mail room and having the conversations and really getting to know a guy and what makes them tick and what it will respond to and so i. I think when you take the time to know somebody as an individual to know their family to know their story. I just think that helps. That helps the relationship that you have off the field on field. And that's just something that i've always done and made a point to do because i think is important. Or if you were to rank Ryan fitzpatrick rivalry games because we always love. Good fizi rivalry game. Is there other teams where it's more of rivalry game if you're are excuse me revenge game if you're going up against like the titans verse the bengals versus the jets versa. Bills like if you were to put what. What are your top three revenge games so at this point especially now being in the nfc which was in the afc for so long like. I don't know that they're going to be many. I mean i you know we're playing tampa. I don't view that as a rivalry. Game i mean. That team is so different from when i was there. I can give you the biggest rivalry game. i've had in my career which was after. I spent four years in buffalo simul tennessee then the next year signed with houston when i started at houston against the bills like that was that was like such a mental. I was very meaningful game for me to be playing against the buffalo bills. And that's probably the one in my career where i could have said man. That was a real revenge slash rivalry game so you say that we're idiots for always calling them. Revenge games for always being like man ryan's gonna fall out this weekend. No i'm telling everybody in there. I mean we're playing the bengals in preseason. This is a revenge game. I was there in..

"Yeah car doctors pretty damn cool. That's pretty good too. And then jerry jones. Can i get a little jerry. Jones for the for the lady had which one had more shots in a cocker spaniel. You don't worry about sticking me brickman to circumcise mosquito. Here i had more shots than goddamn good man. The man went into gruden. Yeah yeah he did a little bit so why. Why didn't we have steven jones. Jerry jones son helping out with his contact lenses. As far as i can tell. That's what stephen jones. John is is to clean people's eyewear doctor. I do think that you should have somebody on your team that has rec specs all time. Yeah that's a great guy. Glue guy yes and also it does Anyone who's played any sport any level knows that before game. You look across the sideline in size up the opponent if you see a guy in rec specs. You're like we're gonna fucking win today. Yeah so you get them false confidence and then you beat there. That's that's i would have. I'd have my guys wherein like pocket protectors rec specs all of them on crutches. And just give them some confidence. You played football for a while. If you saw guy on the opposing sideline what went through your mind scrub yup. Yeah that's because you're not a writer. Because i know another guy that we're rec specs back. Your you walked right into that one. Until yup i i i played you like a goddamn on that one. Disavowal billy billy. Just got it right now. That just hit them. No derived. this week was tough. I would like to see him. Bob mcadoo in the in the background. We got mcadoo. We got joe philbin. Yup the cavaliers are just. I think people don't realise enough. How crazy is that. Jerry jones the owner of the team. He is the general manager. he's he's grinding film and like rating. great. I'm sure he's got all the analytics he's going east going on scout he he goes. Scouts teams all the time east west game the shrine game. Whatever it senior bowl game. Yeah he goes to all that he lives at a hotel six. Yeah he's walking around the stop. watch it all time. that's jerry does. Yeah all right so hard knocks stinks all right before each nazi thrown obviously People saw the news The tragic passing jimmy hayes so we wanted to at least acknowledge that i i do jimmy. I was introduced jimmy in two thousand thirteen. When he's on the blackhawks in the stanley cup. Run he's very close with our very good friends at spitting chocolates. So just tragic it. It's one of those moments. Like i think you know like i said i. I knew him a little bit but also just the fact he has two kids that are almost identical to my Two kids and it's just it's it's fucking terrible and it's one of those like you know life's too short. Tell people that you love them kinda moments you see that. From the hockey community there was not a single person and has a bad story about him like he was ultimate although locker room guy ultimate teammate. He he he was one of the first athletes that i met who was like a fan of barstool and it was one of the coolest moments i remember meeting him in two thousand thirteen and it was. He was one of those guys that everyone liked to be around and It's just it's really really tragic and You know. I think anyone who met him. Heard him podcast. Whatever it may be their life was better for it so We just wanted to say something for the hockey community for spitting chocolates guys for the hayes. Family was very close to barstools. So really really really. I never met the guy but Away that you can tell a lot about somebody F- after they pass away like what the reaction is and it was just all people having the nicest things ever say about the guy people that i love cared very deeply about him and thought of him as brother. And so you know. There's obviously it's a heartbreaking time and nothing good that you could say but it certainly sounds like he had a very positive impact in a short time and and it does sound like there will be a lot of people who will be in his children's life because like i said that part just like fucking. It's rare that a death like really hits me in that one. Hit me pretty damn hard on monday night. Especially when i was like putting my son to bed it was. It's it's fucking really really bad so we're thinking about him. We're thinking about the people that are close to us like pfc said and Just wanted to throw that in there. can't really transition from that but did record this part after this. So if you're not white sound so lumpy let me do a side transition to to buffer it Baseball is kinda of back because we watched the braves yankees game. That was electric. That was actually designed that we knew hard knocks wasn't good anymore. Was we had braves yankees on. We were all watching braves yankees. Well like half watching or out of the corner is hard. How does that work. If there's a foul tip called yeah and then It wasn't tipped what happens on that. Can i guess it's not reviewable not reviewable so hake. Are you nervous about the yankees. Because they've now won eleven straight again hot who early our. It's been great and you have that ready to go back to my wrong. Oh you're not hanging. I'm looking at the calendar. Right now is is this. Is this october. That even do they give them mr tober september. No i don't think it is called september. That's sandwich month. August and october line line. It's not september the yankees. I had the boys of summer there. They are looking like they're having fun. And whenever you see a yankees team start to have fun. They'd like a precursor for maybe some problems. Yeah i mean if chapman like that's you're closer. I've oh he's the author on into october sweatier. Man aroldis chapman her. Patrick ewing in the history of new york sports. Yeah 'cause aroldis chapman he is able to accomplish. Patrick ewing levels sweat in a much shorter periods. I'm patrick ewing. He had that sweat going but usually it was after. I don't know maybe like thirty minutes of being out on the wherever shack the shack. It's obviously not new york athlete but shack used to be like pouring sweat during the national anthem. I was shocked by that but aroldis chapman. He wears long sleeves atlanta in august..

"If you will and that particular play actually you know we hit mike. You sticky earlier the game down the middle. I had a very good feeling with rodney Marinelli they're going to be playing tampa too so i had a very good feeling. They'd have a might linebacker and running with mike and key to save these. And if i could spend enough time staring. At mike i might. I just might have a chance to hit our single receiver down the sidelines and so rarely on drawing place alert to the happen. Exactly like you think they're going to happen My career and be a testament to that but this one did. They came out in the defense. We thought they were gonna come out. I keep to the left and then stared down mike and stepped up in the pocket and the safety on my left. All the sudden starts running towards mike. And i'm in the middle of this play like oh my goodness like this is really going to happen and we actually you know so. He completed the play flag. I had no idea that thrown at that it was completed. I just need my head. Almost got ripped off but the amazing thing about that play is like we needed those fifteen yard. Yes like to get into field goal range and It was just it was such a cool play was an amazing moment. You know kept our playoff hopes. Alive in that whole sequence after i went in going back and forth with car and the the different touchdowns things that many was just. It was a fun the end of the game so much fun. Probably not if you were raiders fan. But it was up until the very last nineteen seconds. If it's patrick can pull a trick out his loft colleagues at the forty one and you're playing cover to you've been playing it all night long. See the you see the facemask right there. But you're one of the greatest games regular season games. I can recall certainly. Yeah it was the end of it was wild and it was so much fun and then in true that i'm not gonna talk to the third person but just a just ryan absolutely not but like just you know my eye. Therere fits magic fashion to say he's going to stay in sticking the true form of my career i than test positive for coke. At like three days later he was ryan. Fitzpatrick reportedly test positive for cova. One thousand nine hundred taking him out of sunday's huge game against the buffalo bills. It's unexpected it's unknown. You never know what's going to happen. And in that case. I was just so shocked it was crazy. I didn't really want to believe it. But what a great high and truly amazing moment for me and my team in the season and for me my career to be followed up by the cova was just crazy the roller coaster metaphor ryan which has applied to all of the things you've described so far with us. i mean. does it feel fun to you. still the idea of the loop de loops. It's still amazing. It's so much fun for me in part of it is i'm an old man out there. I mean part of it. Is that like. I'm still playing a kid's game and for for whatever reason you know i feel great Mind body soul. Everything feels wonderful and that part is good but the other part. That's cool for me and it doesn't happen with a lot of. Nfl players is like i get to experience this with my kids. My kids are going to remember some of these moments. You know my kids are gonna remember going to all the home games the last few years and being able to experience all that with me and i just that part of it is something that really keeps me going. I'm truly trying to teach them lessons through some of the experiences that i have and for them to be old enough to experience them and see them I think that is really cool. Moment for me. My career right now ryan fitzpatrick in the midst of a career that you wrote in the dirt. Thank you for making this ride so much fun to watch. It's been saw now. I appreciate you spent cool. "Your limits. Yeah might my superpower. Might be self awareness. It might be self awareness. I think you know that is a very important part of playing quarterback amiss though the delusion does any part of you missed the delusion that maybe i could do that you you know. You've seen me play enough. I mean i'm saying this. And then. Of course i'm delusional in trying to nate. Some of the i mean of course. of course i'm saying i'm self aware but there's still. There's still a lot of throws that. I wanna make that i try to make. It doesn't necessarily happen. And sometimes those happen when you lose fourth quarter but then something crazy happened like the las vegas game last year. And it'll just that'll creep into the back of my. Maybe i can do it. I did it i've made. Yeah so Yeah it's a constant battle. It's a constant him. After the break ryan fitzpatrick is gonna tell me the untold story of the ultimate fits magic moment. Your business is important to you and the best way to improve. Your business is to improve the lives of your people you k. g. develops hr and workforce management solutions designed to take care of your employees because when they feel supported and connected and appreciated. Your business will transform from a workplace into a work of art. uk g. Our purpose is people so ryan. I honestly don't know how to square the self-awareness you've described with you throwing a football berry. Successfully with your helmet turned around. And what are the game as a result of that. But i'm going to go along with you on this journey through psychological discovery which takes us into that december game against the raiders that play in particular because to set this all up. The dolphins benched you november despite you playing pretty well and to tunga by lowell who got drafted fifth overall by miami last year was named the starter but he struggled in that game in vegas and so it's less than ten minutes in the fourth quarter when all of the fits magic shows up because what you proceeded to do off the bench man. It felt like what anyone who ever liked. You wanted and wished were you to do. Yeah and a little bit of the backstory. Which i haven't really said before is once to a win in. I'm glad to happen over the by week in that gave me a little bit of time just to step back a little bit of time to digest my feelings and comeback ready ready to help ready to be there ready to coach him up even just be an ear for him if he needed to talk to anybody. He's a great great kid. And i was some guys. It's hard to be in their corner coach up to help them so much because they're not great human beings and he is the exact opposite. He's he's amazing and so As hard as it was for me not to play in helping him out and seeing him have success and you know being in his corner like that part of it was okay. Now what i was going to get at was i wanted to prove to myself that i could come off of not just the bench but i could come at. It stands in five years income and playing. Nfl football game and be ready. And so i really just shifted the coach mode. I mean in practice One of the things that people don't realize when you're the starter you get all the reps when you're the backup you take all the scout team wraps. That's how you gear up for a game every single week. So when you're the third straight quarterback you don't get anything any new you really don't. And so we had real young third-string die reads net. And i wanted to read to get some wraps because otherwise he wasn't ever gonna get routes so i didn't really throw it all after two went in i stayed mentally sharp and ready and was still running but i did not really throw football during practice especially during like a you know practice setting against the defense hold donald donald dot. You did not throw a football in practice. Which feels on some level ryan like wanting to prove something and also kind of like a protest. Like i'm not even gonna throw a football well. It wouldn't have protest. It was. I was fully into help to and i wanted this young guy who otherwise would get zero reps throughout the year to have an opportunity because i was in his shoes. Once i sat there is a third and fourth string die and just watched and watched in one never had any opportunity better so i saw it as a way to help read. I saw it as a way for me to give extra help to to a and i also saw it as a way to prove to myself that i could come out of the stance five years from now and still play this game. So you know i knew the reser. That's the backstory hold. Keep going. But that's i did not know any of that. Obviously that your your arm was cold headed into that. It was arrested. It was french. It wasn't you're looking at the wrong way. It wasn't cold. It was fresh. So i you know i. I've played in the denver game and then i played in the vegas game all the while knowing that you know i felt. I felt good arms rested. It was ready to go and in both games but especially in that vegas game. I've proved myself. That i could come out of the stands at five years when common playing. Nfl game be successful so that was a win for me last year. My god man. My god like the notion by the way that this was a season in which you had finished. I wanna be very clear about this. On the record year you finished fifth in the nfl in qbr. That was higher than tom brady. By many advanced metrics by many basic and advanced metrics. You just had an objectively really good season so you doing that with your very well rested arm and your face turn all the way around. So you're blind to set up that game winning field goal which kept you in the playoff hunt. Take me through that play. Because i just need to understand specifically what happened was awesome. I've been known in my day to dials. Stuff up to to draw it in the dirt.

"Rive it's patrick. Where are you right now. This is an audio only medium. Please describe the background seeing that. I'm looking at. And i think i know it is but what we're are you. What's around you. I am in arizona right now. I think were the only family on earth that spends only july in arizona backward from everybody else. But i am in my office. Ryan fitzpatrick's job is quarterback for the washington football team and he's played in the national football league since two thousand and five. So i've got all my helmets. Have actually twenty two shows doing a very good job of filling them up right now. I've got some harvard. Helmets have got a high school helmet and then all the teams except for cincinnati. Because i was too cheap at that point to buy a home. Wait a minute. Hold on ryan. You were too cheap to buy bengals helmet and so your collection is just missing this. I would would say significant stop in your trajectory. I need to contact the equipment manager. A sapping gets you helmets for my two years. I spent there. Because i'm a little less cheap. At this point i first encountered ryan fitzpatrick and fall of two thousand and three back when he was a thrifty clean-shaven college junior and i was in involuntarily unbearded freshman but only now many moons after being taken in the seventh round of the oh five. Nfl draft is fits magic at the peak of his powers. Charming miami last year and about to become the first quarterback in history to start for nine different. Nfl tapes so today a long way to sit down with the new leader of the washington football team. Who despite all the turnover and turnovers has become a special kind of football success. Store one that neither of us was insane enough to imagine pablo toray. It's monday july ninth. This is yes. Peon day presented by. Uk g. our purpose is people. Yeah i ryan. I've been watching you play football. Let's just be very blunt about this almost twenty years now. I do not think i'd be talking to you in twenty twenty one as you. Sit in front of a zillion different. Nfl helmets as you sit on the precipice of being a starting quarterback for what feels like a playoff tv. and so. i just want to ask you. Because i've enjoyed hearing you talk talking to you over the years. When did you really start to lean in to the idea that this is my life. I can talk about it. Honestly bluntly forthrightly like this is who. I am going to own every inch of this. I mean it's a it's definitely a progression as you get into the nfl of just trying to not make any noise and hang on it. And i went through that probably my first five years in the league were it was. It was two in saint louis traded cincinnati to there and then it was my first year buffalo. Scott that was an audible by the way dining as the bag up there. And then as i became a starter in buffalo for the next three years that was when i finally got a little more comfortable were dress on the defense empty five receivers out in a route scott not in my role and not working as hard or anything like that but more comfortable and that i was finally seen as a starting quarterback in the league. This is the win the stopped and was able to be myself a little bit the other major point in my career where there was the transition was after my year in two thousand sixteen with the jets which was miserable and i first time in my life. I hated football and just didn't want to didn't want to plane more since then it's almost like it's been playing borrowed time last four really been able to enjoy. Hopefully everybody's been able to see that for me on the field goofy stuff of interviews. That's kind of my personality has has really come out the last four ryan. I am shocked to hear that the jets almost beat your enjoyment of football out of you. That's never happened to a person on this planet. Before i mean it was for me it was just the two thousand fifteen was such a great year. It was one of my most enjoyable made. Great run at the end and all that in overtime patrick but jets win over time but the next year for greatest fifteen sixteen was is that bad. It sucked the energy in life. Fatemi what did the bottom look like. What did that jets shape bottom. Feel like to you. i mean it was. It was very tough for me. Because i've always been able to do such a good job of separating football and home i want my family to be able to enjoy the football part of it but there's some stuff that i also.

"I really think that's what Bella check is going to do And then, just like in Miami with Brian Flores, his protege. We're even when they were decent. He pulled the plug on Ryan Fitzpatrick and went to to, uh, Think Bella check will do the same thing. I think when Bella check. Thanks, Mac Jones is ready. He'll go to him. And if the Patriots are Foreign to at that point, I could see him doing it. But I also think he is Confident enough in himself. Probably a little bit narcissistic, actually. He's got all the rings to prove it, So I guess I can't knock him. But I do think that Bill Belichick is convinced he can win with Cam Newton. So I don't think Jones love the best season because I left the way I think that the same thing is true. Trey Lance in San Francisco. Rapallo making $25 million. If he starts here on the bench, is the highest paid backup in the league. He's not getting traded before the start of the year. Lance only played in one game last year. He's raw. He only has one year as a starting quarterback, and it was in the FCS. So I think they'll play Jimmy Garoppolo until he gets injured, and you will. I think that also puts Lance on the sideline for a considerable amount of time. Three quarterbacks who are going to play, probably from day one. Our Lawrence Wilson and Fields. And I think Wilson I think Zack Wilson. First of all, I'm very down on him as a player. I think he was a one hit wonder and consider the competition. No knock on BYU. It's not really BU. I use fault, but they didn't play anybody last year because of being an independent and Ah lot of conferences didn't allow for nonconference games, and they got screwed. And Wilson put up huge numbers against awful teams lit up, You know, job dropped everybody's jaw. Collective jaws at Pro day at his pro day big deal. Guys do that all the time. Paxton Lynch did that He's already out of the league. He was a first round pick. So that does nothing for me looking good in a pro day in shorts and a T shirt who cares? Tons of guys can do that. Johnny Manziel, Giddap! So I think Zack Wilson. Is in a tough spot, too. Because I think it's coach wants to run the ball in play defense. I think Robert Salas gonna be like, Let's unleash Zach Wilson here. Just turn things over them completely. No, I think they're gonna be conservative. I don't know if you could do that, with the Jets, their offensive line still a work in progress. They're gonna be trailing in a lot of games. I just think it's gonna be an outfit. I just have a hard time thinking he's going to step right in there and do well step up in class and competition. New York's a tough place to play, too. I just I don't see it going well. I think there's gonna be a lot of growing pains with Zach Wilson. I'm not convinced he's ever going to really work himself out of that. Situation much like Donald couldn't And Donald had way more pedigree. Had proven time and time again in college that he had NFL tools. Wilson hasn't done that. That really narrows it down to the two quarterbacks who I think have the best chance. To succeed this season are Trevor Laurence. No surprise there. And Justin Fields. And the thing about fields that I believe We'll get him on the field day one. Even though the bear sent out that QB one tweet about Andy Dalton and told him when he signed Hey, you're our guy. Chicago needs to win now. When I say that I mean the GM in the coach need to win today. Not two years from now, not five years from now. They need to do it right this second. There's urgency. So they're not just getting in their new coach, Newton new GM, Let's take our quarterback and be patient like that's what happened when they picture risky. New coach John Fox was but Ryan Pace would have just settled in there. The GM had, uh, knew that he had Sometime he knew that he was going to be given a longer leash..

Did Washington Do Enough to Push Dallas in the NFC?

"Did washington football teams teamers and the giants do enough to push dallas in the nfc. So i left philly out. I don't yeah. I just don't i am found anyone who really thinks they're going to be competitive. I mean let's wait and see got jalen whatever. But that's a team that they're not really fun to talk about. Because their free agency considered like stripping you know but i mean they did sign at harris for like nothing which is probably better sightings but what you have in jalen also you serianni. Yes hundred percent but washington in york both very active and did interesting. Things i think are worth discussing because dallas after the dak prescott deal was finally done. They've kind of made a few moves around the margins adding kia neil. Getting tied as kind of swing. Tackle still have question marks at adra sure and coroner but washington like i think they might have had my favorite free agency or at least the one that i'm most excited to see. I don't know payoff on the field. So just to recap. They signed the aforementioned ryan fitzpatrick one year. Ten million dollars. They tag branch eff. Who's there Pro bowler guard. They signed william jackson from the bengals. Cornerback three years. Forty two million dollars and then added panthers wide receiver. Curtis samuel for three years thirty four point five million dollars so just starting like let's start here. Do you agree with me like do you. Do you like what they did. And do you think it makes them an actual competitor in the division. A really like what. Washington did You know. I think among the guys among the quarterback that they could get because not only were they never in it for russell wilson or or wherever really going to be competitive for shawn watson You had to start looking okay. We'll what's realistic. And it's the ryan fitzpatrick coming off his best his career. It's an andy dalton and whereas that really gonna lead you I think that there was a lot of interest in marcus. Mariota he still is not able to sign with another team because the raiders are still holding him hostage But so. I like the quarterback. Move because you're essentially saying let's build up the team the and let's have the strongest team possible around the quarterback position where we don't sell out just because we have to for that position free agency. Maybe they make a move at the draft for a guy that they have their eye on. Or maybe they just say let's. Let's keep the boat floating this year and let's make our move Next free agency. So i thought that they probably overpaid by million or two on curtis samuel. But they wanted him And and ron rivera really likes them. Obviously william jackson an incredible deal You look around and you need another pass rusher and they can they can probably keep ryan kerrigan as a third down specialist if he comes down off his number end so you know he's he's still doing that. He's gonna get paid a whole lot of money. I'm not sure that that money is really out there especially at this point in free agency so they didn't want to mortgage their future for for quarterback right. Now they wanted to keep the boat afloat. I that and so. I like what they have done. Specially on evens. Then when you consider the the sort of offense and the pre-snap that they can have with all those offensive playmakers. Now that curtis annuals there with terry corn. I really like with done.

You may have seen the reports that kind of sprinkling out over the last couple of weeks ever since he got the starting job, despite the fact that they were three and three in Fitzpatrick. Is a guy that really brings a lot of energy and great leadership. The reason they went to to, uh According to reports, it's because they want to know if they need to go back to the draft. Miami Dolphins Draft 2020 – Beefing Up The Defensive Line

"The dolphins coming in with Pick number five. They have a lot of needs to. What are they going to do with that quarterback position? You know what they do. They desperately need a quarter of quarterback. There there's no doubt they they do have. I don't know if this makes you feel any better about their situation. They have Josh Rosen. They have Ryan Fitzpatrick. Are Those guys? You're going to build around probably not. I'm hearing that there's any from Justin. Herbert to to attack overall is going to be there. I think the dolphins are going to surprise a lot of people. They're going to get the unsexy pick here. And they're going to take an offensive lineman out of the first round as well. I wouldn't be that shocked overall. I I could see this team doing it but I keep going back and forth to be quite honest with you of what this what they might do because that quarter quarterback is so important obviously for your franchise as you build but the bottom line is the dolphins have a lot of needs. You know they want to take a quarter. But you know you're hearing you're hearing all this thing about the Wunderlich score you're hearing about the you know. Obviously the injury is there. They have three first rounders. So could they wait a late around and see? What happens to some of these quarterbacks down there or do they just flat out go with a guy that could be more of a sure thing for them at the end? I like Andrew Thomas. The offensive tackle.
