"Either of those things is amazing. Guy you can't take your eyes off of a guy who does it in sanding is really something he never ever seen. And when i wrote that thing. I just want it real quick because actually our our system was about to go down for maintenance so i only had time to put out about two hundred words in a couple of videos at the very end of it blast line. I put and this was written minds. You in the second inning was. Here's hoping otani stays healthy for the entire year. And i always felt like a kind of him. Because then you know at the end of the satanic is. He said it was the plate plate. The and by the way nothing even remotely dirty on brave part was a tiny jump for the ball and that's how he came down afraid just slid into the plate as he should have. But we're we're seeing a guy that if he stays healthy can be just a game changer. And it's not like he's going to inspire other people to do the same thing that he does because nobody can do the same things that he does but he's the kind of guy that that really can can truly just take sport at a country by storm. If he stays healthy does the things he does that he did. In the first five innings last night you know part of it too is going to be how the angels in joe maddon handle him and they're going to be aggressive in their handling of famine. There ask for a lot out of him so your rights as a baseball fan here selfishly hoping he stays healthy but hoping that all these young guys stay healthy because there's such an influx of talent and excitement elite grain. I really is crazy because you know you have a tiny. He's in his mid mid to late twenties. Then you got some of these young guys mean juan soto and fernando tattoos. June janis old man compared to some of them. I know it's crazy but it's these guys that are coming up at just doing credible things. At young ages i mean. He's got that long extension which he deserved. He's he's playful season. I mean he's already superstar and he's got the play more than one hundred games a year. And so you know the best is in front of these guys so exciting their already great and they're going to be even better than you know if you're looking for reasons to get into baseball and watch some snake citing players there. There's certainly a lot of the guys out there right now. Ryan fagin read them at sporting news. Dot com.

"March twenty four two thousand twenty one addition to the program and ryan fagin joins us to talk some college basketball as we get for the weekend of the nc double a. tournament. And just a couple of days. Of course the area teams with the best weekend last weekend. Follow ryan ryan fagin on twitter and read them at sporting news dot com orion. We've talked last week. Getting set for the tournament and not the best weekend with the ncaa tournament or the nit for the area teams mizzou illinois and slough kind of a A just brutal disappointing. Wherever you want to say ending to what had been a a pretty exciting and pretty fun. Year for all three of those teams. Yeah and i think the thing. That's the most disappointing. Is the potential of what you could see happening in. It wasn't crazy to think that illinois could get two for the national championship game with. I mean that was wasn't unrealistic. You know it wasn't unrealistic than the zoo could have had a seven seed play. You know win that game. Two seed allston wind up in the in the sweet sixteen. We've we saw mizzou beat alabama this year mizzou beat illinois this year. The potential was there we saw the potential with slough could be you know and to have all three of those teams not just not reach the potential but fall. Far short of what expectations could have been disappointing. Give some credit to layla and puerto. Moser's let's start there. What did they do well. And how are they able to give the annoys such trouble really from wire-to-wire i mean they really just controlled the game. They really did they. They played smart basketball. It didn't turn the ball over. They didn't allow illinois to get out and run focused. Defensively stink keys. That's much like they did a couple of years ago in the run the final four the they executed game plan very well. There's a difference between having a game plan and executing game plan and know the the loyola team i'd against illinois to the same thing it did the on the run to the final four. It really executed the game plan very very well so what you make of loyal is chances next and again at team that i think. Sometimes we don't know a lot about a team or especially amid a major. We get caught in a lot of cliches but they can do a lot of different things. They can play in a lot of different ways. Yeah they absolutely can. I am stunned. I i wrote this on. We talked about the matchup was most looking forward to in the ncaa. Tournament was illinois verse. Oklahoma state i thought that was gonna be a great notch up. I thought it was a final four worthy matchup and you could have taken every single cent of my bank accounts if you bet that neither of those teams even make the the the potential matchup in the sweet sixteen. It's just really is stunning. But now all the soviet loyola looks to have. I'm not saying easy paths to the final four because there's never easy passes four but i they have a very manageable team. That just did did that. Illinois suddenly looks like it's a very realistic possibility that they play the way they did and they don't even have perfect and they could still be to the before ryan fagin with us from sporting news you can read them of course at sporting news dot com. Follow him on. Twitter at ryan fagin. Yeah i'm wondering about Mizzou and we saw gonzaga look great. Wouldn't mattered. i don't think or mizzou but for mizzou team just kind of frustrating. Last couple of minutes. xavier pinson not in the game. He announces that he will enter the transfer portal. Just kind of like a head scratching frustrating end to what had been an entertaining season. The tigers and console martin. Yeah you know i mean. I think that we've seen all all year from missoula. They're playing a good basketball. The tigers can beat anybody and the third. Not if they're playing head-scratching basketball times then they can lose to anybody you know. I mean it with the way that that game ended. You wondered if you know. The the sooners didn't have a couple of kids from mississippi. Mizzou couldn't do anything in the mississippi teams in se. Play this year so yeah it was. It was frustrating. The game was there you know they. They didn't play well and they still. They didn't play their best game and they still had a very realistic chance to win that game in the last three or four minutes to see his way like that. Yeah it's it's one thing to lose when you lose to a team that's playing perfectly and you just lose to a better team but when you lose a game that was that was winnable and that not all stick with you a little bit you been a lot of criticisms about console martin for instance and offensively the tigers maybe lack of identity there. Inconsistently are their inconsistency offensively. He's been around for a while. But i know. I asked you this question a couple of weeks ago and i wonder your opinion. Now what there is from zoo fans to be excited about if you feel like you know the kind of cornerstones Of the groundwork of a program has been laid by con zona staff. It's been a couple years with the puerto brothers. That injury disappointment now getting some new players in. Where do you feel. Like ms program is as a program at this point right now i think the the thing with mizzou is you have to look at where it was still. I still think you have to judge the program. Not would it could be not what. It wasn't the norm stored peak era. Or even the you know. The quin snyder teams. Were pretty good before that all fell apart. Yeah it's it's still a program that's trying to get there. You know they're trying to do that. Some with transfers or trying to do that with recruiting. You know the porter brothers. When i think every zoo families still wonder what what might have been if michael junior was healthy and clean and they were dante who i think was in a lot of ways. Better than a lot of people thought he might be. He was kind of the other brother. I wanna be a really good college basketball player so now they're always those questions i still think he's a good person to have their martin is and i think that i always say. Give him time because people don't have a lot of patients with that kind of thing right now but i. I still think he's the guy that's going to help stabilize the long term nature of the program which is something that you know. Quite frankly zoo hasn't had in quite a while. Have your opinions of any of the top seeds in the tournament. Change to this point ryan No i've been. I was impressed. With what michigan did against lsu without as livers you know. He's one of the better player. He added one of the better players in college basketball last few years. And you know with him. I thought that michigan was the most vulnerable of the one seeds. You know and for them to be. The wolverines to the only big ten team left in the tournament is quite shocking. Especially when you just suppose that with the pac twelve which has four teams left when most people said one at most in the sweet sixteen. But you know desire. Looks like like we thought they would you know they. They're a phenomenal team. In the oklahoma played about as well as could be against seven gonzaga was still on cruise control from the second half and put the game away when it needed to on baylor's played better defensively and then had a large stretches in the later half of the season. They're playing more like a team that is capable of getting to that title game than they did. Maybe in the in the previous three or four weeks so houston I feel like the resume deserved to but are they to seat good. You know. i'm not sure. And they got lucky quite honestly to get past rutgers in that second round. And that's why you know talking about his chances of getting go. Final floor of it comes down to a loyal verse houston game in the elite eight. I.

"And really good. You know. I think mizzou as a good team. I think there are some really good teams. They could beat. i'm not sure. Yeah you almost just need to hope that. Like shots don't fall. You play while defensively and you have a chance down the stretch but mizzou started the year i think with such a bang and and were ranked where they were rank slew as well and some different types of disappointment for at least unfinished business at the end fridge team potentially a bit more out of out of control illinois is quietly wire-to-wire. Been just just one of the best teams in the nation. Yeah if you're mizzou. Fan should regardless of what happens against oklahoma regardless of what happens at all in this tournament should mizzou fans be encouraged by Oh what they've seen this year. I feel like at the end of every year. For as long as i've been as you basketball fan ryan. Each year is kind of almost in a vacuum. I'm wondering if there are building blocks if there is reason for real optimism about the program both in the short term and big picture regardless of what happens over the next six seven days. That's an interesting way to put it. Because you're right. It feels like there's not been a whole lot of cohesion which is different from. Obviously the the air with a lot of us grew up watching basketball. The norm stewart years. Where you guys. There was always a thread. You know there always guys that you've been watching for years. It hasn't really been the case but you know that's not that's not unique to mzuzu that that's kind of how college sports right now. You know. I think martin is the right guy. I think he's a guy that you feel like. He's going to put together competitive teams on a regular basis. He's gonna get good recruits. He's gonna get no he's gonna get transfers people that like to play for him. I think a win win over. Oklahoma push against gonzaga would would help that that future but i think he's the right guy there. There's a lot of guys who are veterans. You look at the roster others you know three four five seniors that are that are contributing a lot this year. So you know there's gonna be some change and there's not going to be as much with next year squad. But i i think martin's the right guy to keep them going forward ryan fagin is with us from sporting news. We talk some hoops. We talk some baseball in just a bit..

"Tampa I said it Miami there he goes set it in Tampa. Bay Go. Ryan Fagin read them and Sporting News Dot Com and follow along at Ryan Fagin on twitter right before we let you go final thing it'll be a a quick transition from the world series to the off season and an off season that I am not sure many in the industry even know how to forecast what could be ahead what's the biggest question or what are you most intrigued to see develop as we get through the world series and into an off season that could be unlike any other following an unprecedented twenty twenty season. Yeah, it's GonNa. It's GONNA be fascinating. I mean there's a lot of things to consider you know the biggest thing that every everybody wants to know what's going to happen with agents. is the market's going to. Produce, big contracts is going to be very slow like it has been the last couple of years in. The, sits stage is set for that to happen was owners. You know they're going to say look at all this money lost were not going to be able to do this on the other hand you know mookie Betts. got that. Very. Much market value extension from the dodgers after the season had been paused right after they knew the revenue lost the dodgers still gave him that big that big contracts you also see you know the the qualifying offer bumped up like it's over eighteen million now seventeen million something this year that had a pretty significant increase. You know that tells you that the money is still kind of there and so you know I think that there's going to be a lot of. Chickens a game of chicken played you know whether you have the? The agent players saying he's still have the money give new free market value of players and teams, and for offices are going to be saying well, you know we really don't look what just happened. How can you ask us for this much money? So I think there's going to be a lot of that At play I think you could see scenarios where players Kinda Take Trevor Bauer approaching. Trevor Bauer is a free agent Sharon. He's talked for a long long time about how he's never going to sign a long term contract. He wants to sign a series of very rich one year deals, right? Well, there's never a better time to do that. Then this off season because teams are GonNa be hesitant or at least try not to hand out these long term contracts, what they also still want to win with what Bauer did this year he proved that not just. During regular season, but he was in his postseason start to I guess the braves you know he proved this he's worth taking a shot with a one year deal. So I. Think you could see other other players possibly do that too and looked to get back into the market. When things a little more at least hopefully a little more steady next off season. Yeah. That was always like the great theoretical like what could Mike Trout get like injuries aside if he decide a bunch of one year deal, so maybe we'll start to see that from a pitcher standpoint. Yeah, it'll be interesting. You know I think clubs of it because then they don't have to worry about if the guy gets Tommy John Surgery, they've only got one year that's in them. On the other hand, it is riskier for the pitchers but. I mean you could get a pretty good reward. You know for one year teams will give you more money if they don't have to have that long term commitment. So I think it's it's a bold move and I'm curious to see how plays out for Bauer over the next three or four years if he doesn't go that route. But yes, certainly something that they will all be watching Ryan fagin sporting news dot com and on twitter at Ryan Fagin, we will be watching the world series in reading and following along appreciated man thank you for. giving. So we always love taking your questions big week of shows and figured we gotta start it off with little baseball last night the dodgers beating the braves to come back and win the seven Game League Championship series Julio Arrhenius the pitching hero down the stretch cody bellinger huge as well. Of course the. Tampa. Bay. Rays Saturday able to hold off the Houston Astros after they had been up three Oh in the American League Championship series they hold on to win the AL CS in seven games randy rose arena, the former cardinal, which we'll talk about with Ryan you're. Heavy P. so now it's dodgers and raise the dodgers back in the world series. Again, trying to finally get over the Hump and win a world series for Los Angeles the raise back after they appeared a decade ago under the build of Andrew. Friedman now, of course, executive with the dodgers. So it's a pleasure to welcome Ryan, Fagin, and of course, you can read them at sporting news dot com round great job covering baseball follow him on twitter at. Ryan Fagin and just as I'm sure everyone predicted a week ago or whenever you made predictions at the beginning of this season unlike any other what do you make of the series? Right? In the fact that two series that looked one-sided that times to series that have plenty of storylines let us to to game seven in this world series matchup. Yeah. We got a lot more based on a couple of days ago like raise they're gonNA sweep the Astros and. The braves were going to pull off the very quick and surprising upset of the dodgers but that didn't happen. Yes I mean seeing up luxury exciting games. I mean, just for that pure level of baseball enjoyment greats yet was I think that a lot of people were rooting for the rays or at least not rooting for the Astros and funny because they end up getting to the world series and the dodgers who always seemed to be at the start of. The season prohibitive favorites at least due to their team on paper in the National League, they ended up finally getting over the Hump Again and and getting back to the world series albeit not against the Astros. Two teams with different paths to teams built different ways but two teams that also share common thread Andrew Friedman Yeah I was around the raise a lot in that two thousand, eight season when they first made their run, you know they they went from. Mid Sixties wins as thirty one win improvement made it all the way to the world series and I got the chance to talk to Andrew a couple of times in small group settings, and you could just see the way his way that his mind worked away the he was looking at things just a little bit differently. The way he was making most of the resources that he had the limited resources he had Tampa. And you always kind of felt like you know man if this guy just get you know what would he do if you had a budget you know and I think people have been waiting for that in La they're waiting for is is to win the world series. You know they're waiting for the dodgers to take that next step you know, and this is the third time in four years they've been there the the first two times and Not. Way that they wanted A. Dodgers fans, but I mean. This is in on I've written a couple of times to this is not. A franchise that has a short window they're gonNA be there over and over and over for the next ten years with the way that they're set up with their farm system in the guys they haven't. In. The in the organization on the big now, and this is you know it could be the first of many World Series Championship. So they can find a way to knock off the raise. Is there a common thread between these two teams in the way that their managers have gone about it in the short season and post season, and obviously the way that they're pitching was deployed throughout these league championship series and throttle longer postseason really impressed with a number of the guys in the guys that weren't necessarily household names out of the average baseball fan on teams that especially with the dodgers had plenty of household names. Yeah you know I think that the raise they just throw out a about a thousand guys that you've never heard of if you're the average baseball fan but now I, mean I think it's it's part of the way that they acquire players I. It's it's interesting to me because a lot of times they seem to get guys who are unheralded or maybe have struggled in a certain place but I it almost feels like if Tampa Bay trades for you, that's like a giant shot of confidence because that means that the rays see something in you know it's a guy like Randy Rhoads arena who you know when he was in Saint Louis was kind of seeing it as as a As an afterthought in a big outfield mixed that the cardinals had and when he was part of that trade, you know you didn't think much of it because he hadn't gotten chance to do much with big club even though his numbers throughout the minor leagues were phenomenal at every single stop you know with the race saw something in him now I don't think the raise will tell you they saw him doing this in the postseason turning in one of the great postseason performances of all time beat I mean this is a raise team that even though you may not know that the average fan may not know a lot of these guys the the rays have been very careful. About, the way they've gone about building this this team that they have right now. Yeah that's been of course, the thorn I guess and Cardinals Fan side watching the postseason Ron is the play of randy arose arena. The way he goes about it. So Fun to watch I know it can be brutal if you're cardinals fan like any team that gives away guy who then goes in and does incredible things. But just from a baseball standpoint, he's been he's been remarkable to watch the astros tried seemingly just about everything against him and he just kept delivering and delivered and delivering as an observer. You'd have no reason to believe that that wouldn't be the case no world series. I mean the thing is, is I think. One of the networks broadcasts, new show chart of the seven home runs that he's hit in the postseason and it was awfully five different pitches four or five different pictures. You know it's not like he's just hitting fastballs and he put he put the the home runs all over the ballpark he ball everywhere with power he's. He's going opposite field with the pitch while he's hitting sliders using curveballs He's sitting fastballs he sitting everything right Allen. You know this is a guy that's just playing with the type of confidence that you really want and raise a really needed it too because I mean for being honest there aren't a lot of other guys in that lineup that are producing right now I think when you look at it, his contributions compared to a lot of other guys I mean, they're not not only they not in the world series without him y'all I don't think they get past the Yankees in the in the division series either. So the world series will start Nicole today's it'll start on Tuesday potential game seven and October twenty eighth there will be. A couple of off days after games two and games five. So we did not see the off days, League Championship series or the divisional series Do you think that the schedule set up in a couple of days benefit either team and I guess the first inclination the dodgers because of the way that they.

As Homer Bailey. Until available to drive all his stuff out the Hollywood. And I'm still shocked that the main thing that I don't want anyone to get off track. We feel need starting pitching. We do not have starting number one. We don't have any starting number two pitcher all we have is a bunch of three four and five. Now the guy from Washington. You know, put in the third best. But without you gotta go all in for kluber kluber from the Indians, they can have been since Al. I know the prospect and probably have to give up. A couple of more a lot of.
