"Just look at the math. And if New Orleans picks up where they left off a CZ. You guys alluded to the numbers were good before the hiatus, said You could tell that they really started to collect They 18 of their Last 13 games before the stoppage. There's 3.5 games behind Memphis. That will be a motivated grizzly team, but you just have to get within four games the way things were set up the on ly issue for New Orleans. Is that you got a bunch of teams that are jockeying for the chance of a potential plan. But if healthy, which we believe they are and guys filling the roles that they're expected to fill With Derrick favors back. He's been basically a double double machine this season each one more filling his room. Will Andrew Holiday providing leadership? And a little bit of Nicolo Mellie when necessary. I just think Alvin Gentry as this season is going on, he's figured out what works for this group. I like their flexibility. You want to play small, They can play small. You want to go bigger. The fact that you have favors and you have Hayes and have Okafor. If necessary. They conduce that bacon bang on the inside. And of course, the extractors we talked about. His eye on if he has locked in with a national audience night in night out wondering what this guy's going to do next on very unique stage. You know, that's the one thing. That that I can't emphasize enough. If you are a self motivated Person. This is the place for you. There's no fan interaction. There is no outside stimuli if you've got a whole lot of pride and your competitive soul You got a chance to do something special over the safety period leading in the postseason. Now I was speaking in that pride. You know, LeBron James got their prime and when you look at it The favorite's obviously looking the Lakers and the Clippers. And I looked at the scrimmage game would come about and who's available for the Clippers and all that. And and even for the Lakers, not necessarily all hands on deck, But then you look Out easy When you've got the Milwaukee Bucks, you got the defending champion Raptor. Would you say what you witnessed foreign discourages hard and seems like he's ready to play with the Rockets. Is, uh, picked to like, maybe dark horses it maybe the Rockets nuggets nuggets in the West. And maybe the Miami heat. 70 Sixers in these are what is your take on that? Who could surprise us all considering Everyone looks at obviously, like I said the top four teams Yeah, It's funny when I got this assignment, and I knew I was coming. I tried Tio figure out how am I going to attack this and basically what I came up with is I got to prepare for all 22 teams. I almost have to treat it like the tournament, which I do every year for CBS, and that is a lot of information and just cram it in and now pick and choose what you need based on the matchups. That you get. I was there last night for Philadelphia and Dallas. Those air two teams that to me could be wild cards in all of this filling with Joel. Indeed, it's not a team that I would want to face, but Getting him healthy gaming and game out has been a chore. It just has not been a given for Philadelphia. The fact that they're going Ben Simmons of the power forward spot they're using shake Milton at point guard. They've made some pretty drastic changes now getting ready for this restart, and it could be a huge hit. Or it could be a big fat zero. If the chemistry issues continue. It really wasn't working for Philly without Horford. In the starting lineup. So now he's coming off the bench. Will he embraced That role will lead that second unit. Those are the questions I would have with with Philadelphia. But are they dangerous? They are Miami really interesting. Jimmy Butler would fit in that category as a guy that's got a great deal of pride. He's a gym rat. He's a workhorse, and it terminates throughout that Miami team. Bam Otto Bio has certainly stepped forward. I'd say next to Brandon Ingram. He's been the most improved player. In the end A and maybe Pascal Siaca MME was already won. That award could be thrown in there. That's how much better he's gotten over the last couple of years. Miami I'm curious, I think with Jimmy Butler That team will be very motivated and very well could surprise some people. People are sleeping on Boston. We don't know, chemistry wise, They're going to be able to come together. We don't know if Kimble Walker is physically where he needs to be to go on an extended run, But the Celtics certainly or a talented team. Ah, Western Conference You alluded to it. Denver. It's a little weird right now. I'm I'm not sure where they stand. They were one of the biggest surprises in the N B A before the stoppage. I don't feel like there's been a whole lot of buzz, if anything, Ah, lot of people around the N B. A. I thought maybe that's a team you want to play in the first round. I hear more people talking about Portland, and the possibilities of the Blazer's coming together at the right time, with incredible guard play from Lillard and McCollum. And the fact that they get nurtured back this Could be a Portland squad something that New Orleans fans have to keep an eye on that might be able to get it going at the right time. The team that went to the Western Conference finals last year. So let's not forget what this group has already done collectively. They believe that this is almost like a second chance for them to prove that last year was no fluke. Ryan Eagle Voice of the Brooklyn Nets, NFL on CBS and Mohr. "You're going to have a spotlight on you in there always seemed like an this pre social media and social media drums up drama a lot more than anything else, but your guys. Locker Room was a topic of conversation at all times it literally was it was it was that all overblown? You think, or was it an accurate thing because distractions can be the death of a team, and it feels like you guys are still good, and with the amount of things that are being sentenced like I. Don't think that's the NFL works. It wasn't overblown, and probably it was. It didn't have as much coverage as probably at this particular point in in our where we are in the world, it would have been more coverage because it's. It was just at the Turmoi-. It was just too much of nothing going on. You know you gotta remember. We've both been a part of it especially in a wrench, you guys have when even when we were young I mean. They were guys who didn't like Peyton. Guys who despise Payton there. They were guys who thought Peyton just thought they were just like trash. And so you know it was like forget about. Peyton and I'm going to play for this guy or I'm GonNa do this and locker rooms as we know success, usually breeds eagles, big eagles. Everybody individually wants they're shy, and so that's what you seen. You seen a Lotta guys, not being able to handle the success of making it to the Super Bowl and preparing for what we had to do. Do in order to get back to that particular point, and so they thought it was so easy at that particular point in that year. That are we were just don't have it again next year, and so now you start seeing guys pointing the finger at each other you still seeing guys with websites. You guys get radio shows. You see guys on TV. Talking about me me me, and then what happened, was it just Kinda blew over because the main two pieces of it all where me? So I became that story, but then it was still stopping in the wings that that was going on with other players. Who would try to get their shot? And so you know you gotta understand in this game that we play. My everybody's not built for the spotlight. You know everybody wants to be in the spotlight, but as as the spotlight gets hot, you know they scatter like roaches, and so it's Kinda like wasn't me It's not me and it's like. Wait a minute out. Take a little bit accountability, unless let's continue to move forward. Everybody wants to be a line until it comes time to do. What lines after do I mean that is? That is a quote that is ranked through with the NFL to a lot of guys that want to be in the NFL, but then things to stay in the NFL and be successful in the NFL. They're not about that. They're about flexing the NFL, but have you teo made up since all that I don't know if that is publicly happened. Do you ever talked to him? I do not. And, nor nor is my mind even set to to do then it's legal authority. I mean really I've moved on, and and in this world that we live in. You know it's too much that's going on at this tract. There might focus needs to be on that you know my focus is on my kids that are here. The House will be the best dad that could possibly be my focuses or. Try to change with social justice and police brutality as well as inequality to try to change that speak you know. Try to teach the youth which training of what's going on in the world, so they're prepared and then also at you know at the end of it all manages trying to be healthy and try to live and be here for my kids. Kids yeah, as they continue to grow I. Hope you get a chance to talk sometime. You guys did a lot of great things together, and obviously you do what you gotta do your man, you make your decisions, but I hope someday that comes through fruition. A lot of people will go Donovan as you know. PHILLY's a very very tough place to play in for Carson. Carson wentz clause got back I. Know where where the backup quarterback wins the superbowl. You've had some injury issues stuff like that. And now they draft another quarterback, not that that's a replace him. But what do you think Carson Wentz is dealing with as far as skepticism and stuff like that inside the city of Philadelphia. Well he, he's He's the baby boy over there I. Mean You know they? They love? Carson out there and so I, just think what Carson is just dealing with any other quarterback deals with remember he came off. An MVP sees enough taking a second second year starting. and then the next year about about an injury again on nick, foles steps in Texas. Teams were Super Bowl. He sitting on the sideline nick. Foles has a statue builder in front of the stadium. He comes back the next year. He gets hurt again. So i. mean you know what he's going through in? The fans are like what's up man like we need this now like they've invested a me one hundred million dollars into. He gets hurt last year in the playoffs. Then they draft a quarterback and Jalen hurts for depth, but you know I went through the same thing I mean. They drafted Kevin Cobb. Remember in the second round. while. I was there. You know which I didn't think that I didn't care anything about it but what ended up happening after I finished counting my duration with my contract in got an extension after that is I was traded to the rescue as they put Kevin Cobb as the starter now. It didn't work out well because he had concussions victims. Step in, but that's what. What we go through quarterbacks and so I, think it's not just Philadelphian. People can let it Filatov because of the the reputation that they have. It's all across the league. You know you you can't discount a ride Roger. Horse to a player that that continues to get hurt and think it's going to be okay at some point, you got to support yourself and get deaf. Let's talk about a quarterback situation in the town that you live. Cuyler Murray last year him and Cliff Kingsbury towards the end of the season. We're causing people problems. They were causing people problems, and he's a freak athlete, obviously top five pick in both NFL and the MLB that is just I. couldn't even Fathom Athletic Feel Pretty Damn? Today I'm going to be actually you know what you know what it feels. Good. I have an idea..

It was it wasn't five hundred and some million, but I'll take a hundred. Hey as you should, that is not a bad deal a welcome to the show. Thank you so much for joining us. Let's talk about that whenever you and your agent and the eagles were talking about potentially that long term deal well, how conversations go I would assume that you were excited for one hundred and fifteen million dollars, just like Patrick mahomes excited here the five hundred million dollar deal. But there's a lot of people that are like Oh. That's a bad deal for the player. It's a bad deal for the player. If I'm senator for one hundred million, I feel like that's a good deal, and I might be wrong in there. Well you know, you gotta remember at a time when which played you know drew bledsoe and I think Brett Farr with the only two at that particular time sign one hundred million dollar deal so I as we were kind of discussing contract you know. The information was sent to me not about the actual It was more of the years in as you can see what Dak Prescott is going through. Through at this time, you don't really want to extend your contract. Because then you'll miss out the boat on really actually getting big big money and so that's why you see press guy going for four years, and at that particular time remember ninety nine. When I was drafted. There are a lot of seven year contracts that were given up to a lot of guys, so I was fortunate enough in. In my fourth year to re up a Redo, my deal, which extended me into that twelve year deal because you know with the money and all it was great, but they wanted to lock you in so that they don't have to worry about me. Getting to the seventh or sixth year, my contract, and all of a sudden at one fifteen goes to a hundred and forty five Because we've. We've made it to so many NFC championships at that particular time, so it was smart business wise for the Philadelphia Eagles but also as far as my agent was concer- He was able to grind out and put out as much money as we could, which led to me obsessively getting through that deal, and then getting another extension so I can't complain by any means of what's going on. By the way that team was dominant to watch over there, in Philadelphia, and we'll talk about that chunky soup money. Chunk. Everybody gotta eat something. That was awesome union mom. Obviously, it's a very memorable commercial and brain in the business behind Donovan mcnabb was an awesome one in the way you played was so cool is well. I mean you're. You got a little hustler over their own first base. We got a guy that is deceptive over there. He will distract anybody if we get him the ball. That's amazing. Ronan locked it. He's like keep doing a case as long as we're picking guys off, but I never did I was the only time I ever did. I felt bad about it. I'm never do it again. Who somebody that was a terrible conversation. Anybody like fuck you. Oh, yeah, when I when I. First Biddings Ricky Henderson four four pictures back. I would talk to the other punt returners, so whenever normally whenever you're warming up, you point one way to team punts the other way, so the other teams returners because they're catching their own punters, balls are standing normally like right next to you, and I would always every single week I am talking to them them. How good they are! HOW ATHLETIC THEY ARE! You're the best returner. I've ever seen on tape. Hey, if we get the open film are open field. Please don't run me over. Just Juke the shit out of me like I'd be like I'm trying to be them here. You know so if we do get in the open field at least I like. Oh, I don't WanNa. Step on this guy's face like I can tell you what that. So I had a really good I. really good run with everybody. Everybody was like very receptive. Nice. It helped me out with Joshua cribs because Joshua cribs tried to Juke me, and Senator Ron me over. Ramp over I tackled him, he stood up. Hit me on. A Helmet said I should have you off. But Julian Handelman the I don. He was back there I think it was his rookie year. I've never played against before. Next me. I was like. Tell you what your your center? Gravity's impressive? Unbelievable. Moment where I was like this son of a bitch subjects. Rain delays like this. Like what did you guys doing? The locker room just to not lose your mind. Oh I think a lot of guys will play cards now. Guys nowadays seems like guys are on their phones. You know back in the day. We used to play cards and. Cut off my circulation, so that's how that started. And then I was so tight my my hands. I had to stretch them all the time, and then when I got into pro ball, my hip was bothered me so I. Start Popping my him. And then I started raking a little bit like double double home run like I got to keep doing this working. It's working I gotta keep. I first inning Giancarlo Cruise, Michael. Stanton took a ball out of the DC area into Baltimore. He stunk for the Yankees is what everybody says, but they're thinking because of the quarantine that there's no fans. There's no real media. He's got a chance to clear his head from the viciousness of New York City and being a Yankee in this could be like great for him. If the first night you hit a ball into fucking orbit when the entire world is watching, that has to be a massive confidence boost going into the sixty eight season. Especially officers to I mean certainly Hong One and hit four sixty in the gap that was. That was that was covered, but don't forget a couple years ago. When Stanton won the MVP, you know I don't know how many homers hit. I think it was in like a ninety game period hit forty seven homers. So this guy has been one of the best players in the game didn't start off great from that first couple of days in New York, but this guy's powerhouse now he said in, but that if that's anything of what's the next two months pretty impressive. John. What I know you're probably you didn't have many slumps during your career. You probably enter your career fourteen thousand hits. It seemed like. Did you ever do anything weird like we always talk about baseball, the superstitious and all the weird stuff that goes on like what did you do to break out of a slump? Oh my gosh. Aj a lot of weird stuff. Doing baseball players weird pros. Just they just like putting on socks same what I remember one time when I was in. I was in Detroit and and I was raking I for some reason I was I was like three hints through two three four. And was like I had this undershirt. I was like I can't wash his shirt. Organic, Gluten-Free, Vegan: Which One's Healthiest?

"Hello and welcome to the nutrition diva podcast I'm your host? Monica. Ryan Eagle. I've got a series of questions from listeners lately, and although the specific topics were quite different, they all have a common root, and that is confusion about what various food designations and certifications mean for example, royds question was about contaminants in protein powders. He wrote I was recently researching which protein powder to buy and to my shock, one of the brands I was looking at was rated worst in terms of contaminants, specifically lead and cadmium. This plant based protein was certified USDA. Organic clearly, this label means nothing since they do not test for heavy metal contaminants. Why do we place so much importance on the USDA organic label if it does not protect us from contaminants? Dennis on the other hand was surprised to find that certified Vegan. Products are often full of miscellaneous chemicals and artificial ingredients. He wrote I've come to the conclusion that if I want to eat nutritious meals, avoiding processed foods whether Vegan or not may be more important than seeking out certified vegan products. And Elaine's question had to do with weight loss. She wrote I've already cut gluten and dairy out of my diet. I'm not sure what else. I can do to lose weight. Now in each case I think there's some confusion about what various labels such as organic Vegan or gluten free do and don't mean for your health nutrition. Certified Organic for example does not mean free of chemicals. It also doesn't mean more nutritious or healthier. It means that no synthetic chemical pesticides or fertilizers were added to the crops or the soils. nother reason that organic products can contain heavy metals, including cadmium, lead and arsenic is that these minerals are naturally occurring in the environment, even though they're not added through fertilizers or pesticides, they exist in the soil and the reason that Vegan protein powders are often higher in heavy metals, then way or egg-based protein powders is that plants tend to absorb these medals from the soil. They're grown in. Similarly, the designation Vegan does not mean healthier or more, nutritious or even more natural. It only means that no animal products are used as defense out a lot of the certified Vegan foods that you'll find on the shelves. These days are highly processed junk food. And furthermore eliminating gluten or dairy from your diet does not automatically lead to weight loss. Now Gluten containing foods like breads, cookies, crackers, pastas, and other flour based foods can contribute a lot of calories to your diet without a whole lot of nutrition and cutting down on flour based foods is actually not a bad strategy for losing weight, but not if you simply replace them all with gluten, free versions of the same things, because it's not the gluten per se, that's the problem gluten. Free products are often lower in fiber and higher in sugar and calories than they're gluten. Containing counterparts. In fact, people who adopt a gluten free diet for medical reasons often end up gaining weight. Because, we played a certain value on something being organic Vegan, local, sustainable or gluten free. These designations often enjoy a bit of a health halo. If we perceive them as being better for us in one aspect, we tend to think of them as being better in every dimension, but this is not at all the case certifications such as organic Vegan or gluten. Free mean only what they say, Vegan does not mean organic organic does not mean healthy local does not mean small. And because they encompass such a diversity of priorities, it's impossible to objectively rank them from best to worse or to use any one of these designations as a proxy for overall merit. On the other hand, doing exhaustive research and suppliers or pouring over the ingredient list for every food you buy is probably not realistic, so you may be able to use one or more of these designations as a shortcut to identify or weed out products that do or don't fit your criteria.

"Hello and welcome to the nutrition diva podcast I'm your host Monica Ryan Eagle and a listener recently wrote in with what I think is a very familiar dilemma. She and her husband were training for an endurance event, but as she increased the duration of her workouts, she noticed that her appetite was also increasing sharply. Even though I was eating more I was still hungry all the time she wrote, and so she experimented with the timing, and the composition of her meals, but nothing seemed to help, and she started to get worried that despite all the extra exercise she was doing. She might end up gaining weight just because she was eating so much more. Will join me on today's podcast to talk about how exercise and endurance exercise in particular affects our appetite. Is Brock strong rock? As you probably know is host of the get fit guy podcast that. PODCAST along with the nutrition diva. That's part of the quick and dirty tips. Network and Brock is also the CO host with me of a brand new podcast called. Change Academy, but more to the point rock is himself and endurance athlete. Which I most certainly not, and he's coached hundreds of others through endurance sports and training so I think he's the perfect person to help me answer this question. Welcome to the PODCAST. Thanks Monica it's great to be here all right I, maybe we should just start by defining some terms. So, what do we mean when we say endurance? Is there a definition for that. Well! There is but the definition that actually goes along with endurance doesn't really fit what people's. Perception of it is I think the question asker here when when she says they training for an endurance sport. It's generally something long like a marathoner a half marathon. Iron Man or Ultra marathon or something like that for the matter of this conversation, let's just focus on those sort of longer slower efforts, not necessarily the shorter quicker ones, so is that kind of exercising those long duration low to moderate intensity workouts. Are they the best way to get fit? Well you know. I always defined fit as being able to move through the world, and do the things that you want to be able to do with a certain amount of ease, and and a certain amount of confidence so endurances, definitely part of that, but it's not the whole picture, so it's not necessarily the best way to get fit, but it is a component of what I would consider to be fit along with things like flexibility strength, having the the speed is well those shorter shorter higher intensity efforts that all works in concert to really equal fitness in general, so it's it's definitely an aspect of it, but it's not the best way the answer to becoming fit. So? Does that type of training these long duration efforts. How does that affect hunger levels and interested to know whether it has different effects in different time frames like while you're exercising may be immediately afterwards or maybe much later in the day. Have you observed? An effect there, definitely, definitely <hes> and. I guess, let's start with during the exercise so generally. What happens when we start to exercise? Is Our blood circulatory system. Does things like moves. Our blood in focuses its energy on the muscles are the parts of our body that are being used currently, so that means your digestive system actually. Isn't that involved when you're going for a long run? Let's say are a long bike ride. So the blood flow actually moves preferentially to your to the muscles that are being used and sort of not to your stomach, for example so you definitely you don't necessarily feel hungry, and you actually have an impaired ability to digest things when you're in the middle of a long effort like that. Now after that's finished, and that blood serve returns to its more regular scheduled program, it's a then then you could feel an uptick in your hunger. At least a return to your hunger, because your blood flows is then returning to your digestive system, and that's generally when people start to feel hungry, and that can happen within minutes of finishing a an exercise like that or a race, or whatever it happens to be or hours later, and that is very individual.

"Diva podcast. I'm your host Monica. Ryan Eagle and today's show was suggested by Fabio. Who writes? I came across a study on bodybuilders, which suggests that a caloric surfeit doesn't contribute to weight gain as you would expect when the extra calories come solely from protein. Can you comment on it? The study Fabio asked me about was published in two thousand and fourteen in the Journal of the International. Society of Sports Nutrition and it is definitely worth a closer look. The subjects in this study were all in their early twenties, and they were all engaged in heavy resistance, training or weightlifting. They were quite lean and very muscular, going into the study in fact, if you looked only at their body, mass index their BMI numbers. It looked as if the subjects were on the verge of. City, but when you look at their body composition, it's clear that the higher body weights related to their heights word due to their very high muscle mass. One group in the study then added a lot of extra protein to their diet in the form of way, protein powder, and when I say a lot I mean a lot. These athletes had previously been consuming about one gram of protein per pound her day, or about twenty to twenty five percent of their calories. Now this is about twice the recommended minimum intake, but it's still comfortably within the acceptable range for protein that's laid out by the National Academy of Medicine, which is formerly known as the Institute of Medicine. For the study, the researchers essentially doubled the appleans protein intake to an average of three hundred grams per day now that is quite a bit higher than the National Academy of Medicine Maximum recommended intake, and it's also as the researchers point out, and I'm quoting here. The highest recorded intake of dietary protein in the scientific literature that we are aware of and quote. The researchers didn't evaluate whether this extremely high protein intake had any negative impacts on liver or kidney function, but many of the subjects did complain of intestinal distress during the study. However, nobody is recommending that eating this much protein would be a good idea on a long-term basis. The point of this short term study was simply to find out how eating protein in excess of caloric requirements would affect body composition in highly trained people, and when they say highly trained, they mean resistance training not trained in the scientific method or whatever. So? The subject's didn't eat less of other foods. They just added the way protein and of what they were already eating, or at least that's what they were supposed to do. In reality, some of the subjects ended up eating fewer carbohydrates. Others actually ate a bit more carbohydrate, but on average they managed to increase the caloric intake by eight hundred calories per day mostly from protein, and they also continue. Continue to do their usual strenuous workouts. So what were the results of this grand experiment? Well, according to the researchers and I'm going to quote again here. The current investigation found no changes in body, weight, fat, mass, or fat, free mass in the high protein Diet Group and this occurred in spite of the fact that they consumed over eight hundred calories more per day for eight weeks and quote. Now how is this even possible? Where did all of those extra calories go?.

"And he stuck at home with the entire family during this corona virus epidemic my friend Mr Ryan eagle I don't I Hey what's up mac man thirty years ago thirty year anniversary of you in a meeting for the first time what's it really on this particular day how do you know that I believe that I met you at WFAN radio ride around this time three years ago because I graduated on may the twelfth I started on may the fifteenth and you were in for some reason my first week of work okay hi all I believe yeah I'm just I didn't know that and you can't fight me on it I know I'll take it while I could find your goal no not collected two days from now I remember the exact date but then I'd be lying to you and the people and I try not to do that but damn we've known each other long time right now but if you're still a young man named neither one of these young anymore I listen I listen you're stunned do games and I go damn I am told which means that makes me even older damn it we are all through it's good to hear your voice brother how you get through this well I'll always go everything is been great on this and very unexpected family time which has been nice and just turn the battery off a little bit by getting antsy like everybody else he would love to have live sports back were seen things starting to maybe shifts but when you get a little bit of optimism it sometimes is backed up by a little more realism so I'm just trying to stay patient and try to remain positive and optimistic that we're gonna get back to some form of normalcy you and I have not had a chance to talk for a couple months and specifically since fourth world shut down how to put it when you found out the DNC eight point was going to be canceled I've known you forever I go back to thirty years ago when we met at bay and then I understand it never watched and listened and loved your entire career and you've done a lot of different things but between you and I I think I may enjoy you most doing college basketball as part of CBS's coverage of the tournament now I know you much better than that but I'm just giving you an honest appraisal for me is eight in taking sports fan I I missed it terribly and its not even anywhere near as big a part of my life as it is yours what was that like for you yeah you know Jodie mac guy I think at the time that that it happened when he announced that took place on a personal level I was trying to get some things sorted out my wife was in Australia visiting my daughter who was studying abroad my son was in LA so my priorities were very much focused on getting everybody together and getting everybody in the same place and I think I talked to when he my feelings on the NCAA tournament because I was dealing with the here and now we have a couple of months having passed and obviously everybody going through the full emotional scale open spectrum realize that there's a void that has been such a big part of my broadcast live for twenty three years two in the NCAA tournament the preparation telling those stories channeling all my energy in that week to two weeks period depending upon how many rounds and I work towards that event and it's yeah it's unfortunate that it went down that way those kids are never going to be able to get that moment back and part of the reason why I enjoy working that particular event so much is that the stories change every year it's a new set of players and it's a new set of narratives and storylines and they live forever you remember March madness euros for ever and ever and it is not always the guys are going to have incredible success in the NBA and sometimes the best stories are the ones that you know this is the highest level they're ever going to play at so yeah it's it's it's really unfortunate more than anything else but you understand the big picture that so this is where we are in the hope is we can get back to where we work yeah one one is that you have said rang so true for me that March memories March madness memories last forever would people even know if they weren't of our age where Valparaiso is but because of March madness memories we all know well Valparaiso is if not yeah we might think of the dog food or something along those lines and how we say it is a Valparaiso Roosevelt plaza always it couldn't Jagga is it comes on and these are burning questions during the month of March you're right price euro Homer drew that moment that's the first year I did the term attend rob what on the call that was nineteen ninety eight my first year doing the tournament for C. B. S. and that is by far the distinct memory that will stick with me from that year's turn of my games I was out in Sacramento that year and we didn't have anything of real note everyone was there Arizona was the defending champions they were there was a different Arizona squad not quite the same group Illinois was out there Illinois state was out there Utah state Nicholls state so there you go nineteen ninety eight I still remember all the teams that were in it because it's such an indelible part of my career stays in one's memory I. eagle CBS is broadcaster for the big dance but also an apparel and TNT's NBA coverage of the way to the net in New York let me give it to the NBA with you I figured I'd put you up at this hour tonight because an hour from now actually more like fifteen minutes the final two episodes of the last dance the on going ten episode choirs I documentary and I told is not a true documentary but applies a documentary on the bold and basically Michael Jordan how much have you enjoyed it I've enjoyed it a lot I think like everybody else to take a trip in time machine how to see the video to see the behind the scenes footage of your memories from that time I started in the NBA in nineteen ninety four so that year that I began I just assume well I'm never going to do any Michael Jordan game she was playing baseball he was retired he ended up coming back that season loss to the magic in the playoffs and then the next year of course set off the next three P. I don't wanna ruin anything for anyone that's watching we know the kind of run that he went on and then had another chapter with the Washington wizards and that had some injury to it as well so I ended up getting a fair share of Jordan games through the years and there was always this this channel intensity when you walked in the arena and you knew he was playing because it was gonna be packed there was gonna be a lot of anticipation and certainly in his heyday your thought maybe you see something that you've never seen before and there was just a variety of electricity that he brought the thing is and I was fortunate that I got to meet him a few times Michael Coren my nets radio analyst my first year I did radio the next year I moved to TV Mike was a star at North Carolina and he was Michael Jordan's host for his recruiting visit his official recruiting visit that so he and Michael were very close they have that tar heel connection and he would bring me all those rooms you saw in the back at United center Michael Korn would bring me back there so yeah yeah come on we will go see Michael and Michael just like the boss chops and I remember one one of the night so we walked in there it was introduced mutual respect what so you're the guy who carries this guy one to be one of the guys in many ways but let you know who's boss and he he could not have been any nicer and and more magnanimous in those moments I think there was a real on there based on their love of dean Smith and their love of North Carolina and doing talk shows in New York for all those years I certainly the bulls were a very hated squad in the city of New York sure it mostly because of what they did to the Knicks in the playoffs they did get a one time that Michael wasn't available but how many times the bulls ousted make the playoffs I had almost forgotten the next pay the price to they got picked up by the bulls play B. as well usually a round or two earlier but the the Napster whether they be in Jersey whichever arena they were playing in they felt a raft of Michael Jordan almost went to the next yeah first playoff game that I ever did that was not the international broadcast because I had done in the NBA finals in fact it was another personal connection for me I did two of the finals that he played in all the world feat so the whole Seattle SuperSonics series and then the one you're going to see you later on tonight the bulls and the Utah Jazz the Brian Russell game I was doing that game for the international broadcast but the nineteen ninety eight playoffs next symbols on that that was my first taste of local playoff action and the next play them tough they should have won game one they let that one slip away they hung around in game two and then you could just feel it second half of game three that they just didn't have anything left in the tank in the polls I just had this this presence about them with Jordan and that night in the middle and was still packed because Jordan was then there was M. J. and the nets could not pack the place all that often they packed it every time I was Michael Jordan they just reviewed that series the last episode and yes you're right the first game was competitive and if Michael decided he's Michael and that was pretty much it for the next I doubt let's dance in a head to twenty twenty are you are the voice of the nets on the yes network are you how often do you speak to someone from the organization just to shoot the breeze see where the team is that see where the league is that is it don't call us we'll call you because we don't really have answers so we're all in a hold mode how does the voice of the team get information about where his team sits in a league that is suspended well we have a group chat text gene with all of us that work on the next telecast so we're in constant communication almost on a daily basis with that but that's really more because of friendship and less the professional side I would say it's probably more of the former I will let you know when there's some news and until that point it's all speculation and it's all conjecture I think the NBA has looked at every possible option everything that you've heard all the rumors have been true they've all been on the table the league wants to continue they want to resume there's a financial part of this obviously that could set back the leak if they don't get back to playing games but I think also they want to crown a champion and deep down they also know that lebron James has a finite number of years to actually go and win a championship for his place in history for the ten part series that ESPN is gonna do twenty years from now and they need to one of the chapters and twenty twenty is part of it so there is motivation but they're not gonna do anything rash and they're not gonna do anything to jeopardize their players and their staff members I do think if the NBA does resume others a very good chance that broadcasters would not be part of the bubble set up where they would be in a location somewhere else a remote location a studio location calling off the monitor and it's something I've done I've done in my career I've done it for NBA finals the one that I mention to you I was on site but I did the Miami San Antonio series the big ray Allen shot and I did that from a studio in Secaucus on the big screen managers are hard call call the games are called world basketball championships all the screen in the studio I've called tennis matches I've called golf off the screen it's doable it's feasible is it the best so of course not but if it means that we have games I'd be more than happy to call it from a studio with a headset on and try to do my best to make it feel like you're there at the gate.

Well, Scott Graham from our studios later this afternoon, most of these same stations it'll be the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears game two of our wildcard doubleheader. But first it's time for the chargers. And the ravens Tony. It's the playoffs. These two teams got here in very different ways. The ravens are back in the post season for the first time since two thousand fourteen and Lamar Jackson their rookie quarterback has been a revelation. They changed their entire offense. And it has been so effective a six in one stretch to qualify for the postseason. I and they went for many pass happy. Barely could run the ball offense with Joe flacco to almost as like watching the whispering. When we were kids, you know, those old teams. I mean, it's power football with they option built in almost on every quarterback option. Lamar Jackson is rushed the ball more than any quarterback since the merger in modern era. Amazing. It is amazing. What he's done, and it's a completely different feeling here as well. Because it's almost back to the year two thousand when they had this great defense and ran the ball in one in spite of the quarterback. Now, they're not doing that. Lamar Jackson is a huge part of this ability to get on the edge and do things with his legs. But it's the defense because they have limited opportunities on the field now because the ravens control the clock. I mean, it is all built around the mar- Jackson and what he can do with his legs not as on. And whether this is sustainable down the road is not a question for today. Can they win today and move on to the playoffs? That's the challenge for Baltimore. Amore against a Los Angeles team that finished twelve and four tied with Kansas City best record in the AFC, but based on the tie breakers. They drop all the way down to the five seed Philip rivers is thirty seven years old. And he's been doing this a long time how many more chances does he get in this arena on this stage in the postseason? It's a great opportunity for a very talented charger squad, by the way, I think they're happy that they're on the road there. Eight zero outside of LA county. Hold other. No, we'll talk about. But he talked about Philip rivers. And you've got to remember who he was drafted with the office. Burger Eli manning. They both have rings. I in so much of a quarterback position today is about the hardware has won the big game and Philip rivers talk this week. But he doesn't how many more opportunity you have. Because.

I he received the two thousand eighteen Marty Glickman award at his album circus university for leadership in sports and his anybody who's ever come into contact with IOT there's a better broadcaster and so diverse, but just not a better guy out there in this industry. So -gratulations too I and who got a chance to celebrate with his family as son goes to Syracuse, how he dinner off our or any producer there as well. Executive producer. I just demoted Howie. Like, I'd be be careful be careful. Syracuse has really turned out a lot of great broadcasters. Are they really have I've visited there several times? Nick bollards the starting quarterback for the Niners goes back to work. He does. So after having a very eventful I couple series. Knight of eleven hundred three yards the rookie at a southern misery second-year pro at a southern busy has evolved to Breda reader runs. Right. Hurdles over defender gets to yards up close to the twenty seven yard line or twenty six yard should say. It'll be second. Daddy. Why? I really like Brita. He he he not a very big guy. But he runs hard. He went right off. Right. Tackle again. You know, only two or three are game. But but he really great effort. Off the play fake bullet sets up with a pocket. Throws his hat. It's incomplete. He was trying to go toward us, Jack. Reggie Nelson makes the tackle receiver number forty four. Whereas in the area. Let's us check there. There's a flag deep at the secondary holding versus the raiders, but that's going to hurt again. They've had three penalties that have really hurt them prior to the past only number twenty one while five yard penalty, automatic I out. That's hotly. The second year pro at of Ohio State so five yard penalties. The Baltin thirty one. He was holding marquees Goodwin. By the way, George Kittle is back. In fact, was it on that last play he returned for the locker room while the Niners raw defense. So that's a good sign which good to see because he's really been very fine player for them. So far this season four hundred five yards after the catch for kit. That's a good tight end. He's lied up on the left side. He's there with Garrick Celik breeders the backfield by itself bullets the second year pro at a southern miss under center. The pitch goes to read running left looking for some blockers. Not that there. He goes right out of bounce. He loses six on a play to ear Whitehead was in other pursuit. White headed a great job. That was a quick quick bitch to the left side, and that was speed versus speed Whitehead had to fight off a blocker. But then forced breed outside out of bounds. So great job by Whitehead on the plane say it's only a loss of five so seconded fifty six thirty to play first app. Fourteen three San Francisco looking to throw throws to the right guard, solid. It's broke it up. Darryl Worley broke it up. He got a hand in right at the last moment. That's a solid defensive play. Yeah. It was great. It was good throw. Good route. You've got to give credit to Joe Worley. He played it. Very very well got his hand in there. Foreseeing completion. Now. Subtypes third downs are overblown coach but the Niners four for four third doubts. This is the most real estate they have to make up though, it's third down and fifteen now this is a tough one. And you can use the pass rush should becoming kiddle. It boasted. The backfield us check is there as well. Play clocked out of five high snap. Polls has precious covet grows to the leper use deck, and he is smothered at the thirty yard line. Nncholas borrow makes the tackle he shy of the first doubt PJ hall was pressuring. It'll be fourth out of the Niners will send Bradley opinions upon that time the defensive front four of the raiders used to tackle. Tackle endgame twisted and put pressure on the quarterback. So Nick Mullins had to throw it. He did a good job. It's going underneath. But not enough for the first down Dwayne Harris back deep at the thirty yard line for Oakland. The. Averaging forty two and a half yards per punt. He spirals this. What to the beer sideline? A fair catches Paul by Harris. It takes a niner's bounce inside the and it stopped at the six yard line.
