Stay informed. The Northwest's on Lee 24 hour News Station Co. Moh news, 1000 FM, 97 7, Bill O'Neill, Taylor and size of the editor's desk. I'm Tom. There are stories we're following right now. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Cesar says. There's a way to bring about the end of the Corona virus pandemic, he said today. That prospect depends on Americans getting vaccinated. Is are urging folks to educate themselves now about the vaccines and the steps they've gone through. White House press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany sidestepping a question on whether President Trump still has confidence in Attorney General Bill Bar, Mcenany said today she had no personal announced our personnel announcements to unveil Bar told an interviewer this week. He has not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome. In the presidential election Cos time. 11 16 Well, it's a crisis within the crisis, rising number of frontline health care workers reporting burnout and anxiety, the corona virus pandemic dragging on with more on this, I'm joined by NBC's Jim Ryan and down on him. I guess it only makes sense. He'd got some specific stories about some of these folks, including an ICU nurse in El Paso. It's just heartbreaking to hear these people tell it, the emotion that they're feeling over all of this. The mental health America has taken. Look at this done a survey of about 1000 health care workers Tom and Not surprisingly, the results do find that these people are facing not only physical exhaustion but mental exhaustion as well. In fact, Survey suggests that the mental part of that equation is heavier than the physical part. And the concern, of course, is that folks may decide to get out of the professional. Might decide not to go into it at all. It's covert drags on, and people are working 152 100 days straight. In some cases, Tom, you mentioned mental Health America and a spokesman for Mental Health. America talked about the fact that the patients are not treated the way that the nurses and doctors would like to see them treated or like to see them. Treat themselves. Exactly right. Yeah, not only do they face the possibility of catching Potentially deadly illness, but they're having to deal with the loss of patients constantly, You know, out there in El Paso, nearly 1100 people have died from covert 19. So you can imagine the stress on people in places like that. Healthcare workers who really helplessly washed In many cases, people on ventilators simply slip away. It just can't be saved in a lot of these cases, and so it's a heavy toll that they're facing an image a mental health. America's just advocating for A stronger and it more fortified mental health structure within health care, so that people who need this kind of help can find it. You know, they're thinking that Of the personal protective equipment. Ppd should include Donnelly gloves and gowns and facial coverings, which should also include mental health counseling time. Absolutely. We had a story of someone locally here. Who's a nurse who is only working because her husband's out of work and she has to do this and take on extra shifts because of that, so the stress and the strain is exacerbated, especially but we're also worried about an exodus from this profession because people just can't take it anymore. Exactly. I mean, it's the stress of it. It's the anxiety. Tell us a lot of frustration. Tom When these spokes the doctors, the nurses even you know, the custodial staff. Anybody who works in the hospital like that they finally get a chance to go home. Unwind turn on the TV set and there they see stories about people who are refusing to socially distance, refusing to wear masks who are gathered in in groups, and unfortunately, they may be their next patients. They sort of see their workers feudal if folks on the outside aren't doing their part, too. Prevent the spread of the illness. All right, Jim, Thanks for the insight. We'll talk soon. All right. Thanks. So maybe sees Jim Ryan common whose time 11 19 For what it's worth. I'm Sherry Preston. It's something we've heard from many Republicans, including President Trump since Election Day. This was a very sad to say it. This election was rigged, and one Republican is done. It has to stop. "Headaches difficulty breathing on on on guys I. Mean you've just showed you there. And here they are saying, no, no period now for most people period. Pretty nuts. But see the problem is that most people will simply do that and read this and right there they wouldn't leave the headline if it said no right after they look good on and move on. But it says, no others can wear masks without risking their health according to experts. That's it. So babies and toddlers who could suffocate that's it everybody else and just according to experts oh, which ones don't worry we will link to them. We won't talk about them. We won't even give you their names just trust that we said according to experts who may not even exist despite false rumors to the contrary. Okay. So are the false rumors what the NIH said here or what they said here where the false rumors, what the NIH said in this study or what the age said in this study was that a false rumor when the NIH seventy, thousand, twenty and June that I mean come on it's just stupid I know on belaboring the point. But it it's crazy. I mean, it's just it makes you makes you. If you're watching this and you're thinking I'm lying Orissa's conspiracy theory. I don't know what's wrong with you. I don't know how you can not see that they're straight up telling you falsities. But Ryan Common Sense. What is common sense about it? There's the science I just showed it to you. Common doesn't make it sensible at all. In fact, in most cases, common usually goes the other way. It says in areas where cove nineteen is spreading health experts agree again, which health experts, right they We'll see what what's. The two links they put in in a statement masks and health. What are they go to? Oh, he goes to another Fox article. Can they be passed between fat mask wears when they're four feet apart of course? Yes they can't their study. or I mean you I mean anyway that I don't want to. Dilute the point their argument in there is that yes, it can spread but the best works and in this is linked to their general health page. Great Sourcing Fox News, you're killing it. There's nothing source in. Here's my point guys. There's no studies. This is a this is a abroad claim about the one of the most contentious discussion points in the in the country right now in regard to over nineteen and they just go does it hurt? You know it doesn't nothing no sources nothing just simply broad claims about. Three and that's it and then Brr Brr. brr embracing the narrative of the mainstream. Unreal. Here's a threat that I'm going to include. That has a lot of things it. You can read for yourself. It's actually it's actually a lot of good information. The point is to go to the link, the information itself and read what it says. You can go through all of this stuff when it shows you the idea that ended ran controlled trials of a gold standard. "Of IRA employees assisted to the translator department served as Twitter specialists redacted, it's the Muller report. This is the Tom Hartman program and welcome back Tom Harmon here with you on the line with us. We've been talking we've first of all we've just had a whole spectrum style. We've been we had a debate the first hour with Julio Rivera, the editorial director reactionary times about Donald Trump, and what he's up to and all that kind of stuff. And then you know, what does America do with Griffin president who's actually broke buck up on the economy and our second hour we've been talking about that for some time. And now Paul Ryan with us. Not that one Paul Ryan this Paul S Ryan is the vice president of policy and litigation at common cause he's the good Paul Ryan common cause dot org is the web site and Paul welcome back to the program. Thanks so much for having me. Thanks for joining us. So you guys issued a press release saying that despite Mitch McConnell, congress hold the Trump administration accountable accountable for, you know, turning over information for what Bill bars up to all these kind of things you want to quickly make that point. Sure, I'm at this point. We're talking about contempt proceedings we're urging congress to hold Bill barn contempt. There are others who are likewise worthy of contempt proceedings. The house is considering such contempt resolution against attorney general bar right now this afternoon right now when Eric Holder refused to turn over fast and furious documents to a Republican led house committee knowing that they were going to publicize them. And and you know, risk of the agency the ATF agency programs. He refused to do it. He felt that it was a partisan witch hunt. That was he was held in contempt and my recollections that litigation took years, which in my opinion is exactly what Trump is counting on the this is going to end up in the courts, and it's going to have to go through a couple of levels of court until I guess the supreme court or maybe even go straight to the supreme court, but bottom line is he thinks he can he can make this thing last. Till after November twenty twenty and after that it won't matter. What say you? Well, I'm not naive coming cause my colleagues here coming cause are not naive. We acknowledged that. The contempt process itself is unsatisfactory. But it's what we've got. And we think it's really important for members of congress to do their job, regardless of gaming out. What the consequences are the outcomes might be down the road. There are a couple of different types of contempt proceedings. Available to congress the way that the holder one holder contemporary eatings went was into civil court, and you're entirely, correct. I mean, litigation took years, and in fact, although although holder was ordered to turn over some documents. He was not ordered to turn over others, the congresswoman and at the end of the day, Donald Trump won the presidency in two thousand sixteen took office in two thousand seventeen and then it was his DOJ, and he cut deals with congress to provide them with the documents. They've been seeking for years on fast and furious. Yeah. So that didn't get resolved for geez. A half a decade. So the foot side of this is the John Mitchell who is the attorney general for Richard Nixon went to prison for nineteen months for line to congress we've seen at least one clear and several probable areas where Bill bar has lied to congress. And that's on talking the modern era. I'm not talking about his lies to congress back in the nineties. My, you know, I it seems if the tables were turned that the Republicans would not be going for lasts. Let's just call us just say that he's in contempt. Instead, they'd be we're going to lock his ass up. Why don't we do that? Well, for one one of the reasons that this is unlikely turn out that way is that there's a big difference between perjury for which you cannot third executive privilege as a shield and withholding refusing withholding documents refusing to comply with subpoenas, which is what no bars doing what congress is talking about today and President Trump has explicitly now. As of today. Third executive privilege over those documents. It's the scope of that executive privilege that that is what would get hashed out in court. It's the thirst of executive privilege that will enable attorney general bar and everyone underneath him, including the US attorney for the district of Columbia to simply refuse to prosecute far for contempt in criminal contempt proceeding. That's why you know that practice the unwillingness of the department of Justice to prosecute criminally prosecute a congressional contempt citation because all the way back to the nineteen eighties in the Reagan administration, at least, and that leads us in the civil law enforcement. Yeah. On here. But we, you know, prosecution for perjury. That's a whole different. That's a whole different kettle of fish in. It is not subjected to assertion of executive privilege of shield. Right. Do you know how John Mitchell ended up in jail? I don't know. It was continuously Republican administration was it happened during the Gerry Ford administration that prosecution, although maybe, you know, I I I guess I I need to talk somebody who knows about that. But the the the I think the largest issue here Paul Ryan is the question of what this has done to America. You look at for example, the Roman Republic, you know, after Julius Caesar was assassinated, and after the fall of the triumph for basically when Augusta's declared his, you know, absolute emperor ship over over Rome. That was the end of the five hundred year long, democracy or Republic and the beginning of another fourteen hundred years of of being an empire is it possible that if the supreme court backs up Donald Trump on this? And I think that there's a good chance that they will. You've got a couple of members Gorsuch in Cavanaugh who are on the record is being in favor of the unitary executive theory of the president really is a king that this presidency being done by, you know, an incompetent bumbler basically who's trying to hide the fact that he's got a past as Griff during a liar that he is in. In through his incompetence. Not doing the kinds of things that you would have expected from somebody like Mussalini or Hitler who were actually competent people. But what he has done is. He has shown where the holes are is shown where the cracks are has shown where a truly competent autocrat compared to Trump as an incompetent autocrat, a truly competent autocrat, the next Republican president who gets in could easily say, okay, that's it. It's the end of the Republic. I mean Jimmy Carter on this program three years ago said we're no longer democracy were not oligarchy. He was not speaking tongue in cheek, but he felt that it was still possible to pull back from it. Is it possible that this administration is doing lasting permanent damage to our Republic in a way that we may not recover from? It's very possible or likely even I think that many of the actions of President Trump and his enablers, including attorney general bar. They pose a serious threat to democratic order to constitutional order of this nation and one of the bedrock principles of government in the United States. Is that no one is above the law. We thought that until Donald Trump into the White House at least, but Donald Trump is really pushing that boundary. He's really trying to break that very simple rule and and demonstrate to the public to the world that is above the law that he can get away with anything he wants if that turns out to be true that will be very lasting very serious bit of damage to our constitutional order to a large extent didn't that start with John Mitchell with the Nixon White House when when the the Nixon department of Justice, the office legal counsel and the department of Justice wrote a memo creating a rule which is not law, but it's policy, I suppose. Saying that we the head cops in the United States Department of Justice. We will not indicted sitting president. Yeah. I think you might want to underscore one aspect of what you just said. It's not a law. It is an opinion that was generated within the department of Justice and it needs to be challenged. It needs to be pressed because anytime you're talking about a separation of powers issue executive branch versus congress versus the courts each branch is going to claim as much power to themselves, and they can get away with and the opinion just cited the DOJ won't prosecute the head of the DOJ named the president. It's an example of that an example of the executive branch claiming as much power as possibly can. And so how do we respond to that congress Chicago's pass a law? That says just you know, a one sentence law says no person's above the law. I do it into amend. The constitution is this. I mean, you know, you had to democratic presidents Clinton, and and well three Ed Carter Clinton and Obama who all had an opportunity to reverse that DOJ opinion and didn't do so I can understand. Why Clinton didn't because he was being held to account by the Republicans in a way that we could have been criminal. But I don't understand why neither Carter nor Bama did unless they just never imagined in their wildest dreams that we'd be in a situation. We're in right now. One in the short term, the remedy to this problem that's enshrined in the constitution is the impeachment process itself. And I want to be clear common causes not yet called for the impeachment of President Trump. It's a national governing board level decision. Are board haven't gone there yet. But the process that exists to check a rogue executive a rogue president a rogue department of Justice is the impeachment process, and that's fully within an within the hands of congress, and it would require to be certain it would require some Republicans in the Senate to put country over party. I don't know if we have Republicans in the Senate willing to do that. But not so process, we haven't not so far. Yeah. I mean, you had to you had Bob corker and Jeff flake and they both loved they were driven out by these guys. Final question. We're talking with Paul Ryan, the vice president for policy and litigation common. Cause paul. Yeah. I I asked you about lasting damage to our Republic to. To to the infrastructure. The superstructure of our of our of our nation itself are are Republican government small, our our democracy if you will. What specifically we have just a minute to the break what specifically is common cause. Or what would you you know, as an attorney thirty on this stuff recommend that? We'd be looking at as ways to repair the damage or or plug the holes that Trump has exposed in our legal system in our in our in the structure of our government a very short answer. But a very comprehensive response is HR one the Bill that was passed by the house this year that is a causes many different policy areas of our democracy voting rights money and politics ethics with collusion's too, many of the most fundamental problems with our democracy today. But each one has been shot down by Mitch McConnell. It has been and you know, and with every piece of reform legislation that's ever passed. It's been a multi year battle so common cause we'll continue fighting for HR one. And it's going to take two years three years four years, but we're going to keep fighting. Yeah. What's the name for HR one? See this is this is this is what Democrats screw up. You know, Democrats come out with chip the children's health insurance plan. Sounds like sounds like something.

"Well, we'll catch up with Mr. spader coming up in a couple of minutes. See how that projects going? It's gone, some buzz, some other outlets nationally, people are picking up on. It's obviously a incredible idea. So looking forward to talking with Ryan common up at seven thirty. Yeah. Well before I got in here today. Everybody was talking about Clemson went to go. Visit the White House. See the dinner Donald Trump laid out for him. Yep. Three hundred burgers McDonald's. Wendy's and Burger King. Burgers, nasal buffet fast, food, any Taco Bell Taco Bell. That's when I would have left. Interesting. No talk about I would have left immediately. Interesting. Ten get over the wall. There. I should say. Who is incredible. This whole thing. Played out perfect. As far as to say that right there the government shutdown, and there's no workers. There's no foods. We just goes out and gets three hundred hamburgers. Guaranteed and pay for it himself. He said he did he's any personally did it. Apparently, he has one of the top restaurants to right down the street in DC. That's running right now, perfectly fine. How many people told me? Let's just think about all the places that are right next door old Evans girl is right there. He could have gone old habits girl paid for all the state. Tell me about the F P senior staple not familiar around the White House, restaurant wise. Do there's DC tons. Yeah. There's so many good. There's so much good. You're saying is there's plenty of options. Then yes, it was. Slap in the face. I think just to a college team that's going there for winning the national title to get. I mean, they're getting downgraded in this whole thing. Because of what they eat. At ala. Bama, Clemson most these big time colleges there they have athletic facilities with their own food. Jeff nice spread for them. Tat showed me a crazy tweet. What was what was the three food items? You showed me what Clemson players usually eat spread. The can't even say it. Fillet? Yeah. You know that that shirted steak steak crab, and then usually like some really good rotisserie chicken like they had a spread and a half. What do you think they thought when they walked in? They saw three hundred big Macs. Oh my God. We're going to. One picture of one dude we have about three big Macs on on a silver play silver plate. But here's feeling it. I would've I would've been here's what I think is a slap in the face what? Wendy's Wendy's dog s I wouldn't totally agree with you on that one not horrible. It's not my first choice though. Not even my second. I mean, if you don't even have Chick-fil-A in there. That's a problem for me. That's a big problem Chick-fil-A. You don't have Taco Bell and talk. It's a problem though. Chick-fil-a you're missing some of the key fast. Food components. I believe what did he got in and out from California. You pull that off? You can't fly double double animals on the east coast. Yeah. You can do both you go shake shack in and out for California for Clemson team. They don't. Yeah. They don't understand. They wouldn't get don't get it. But if you had like the best breads from all the states that's something pretty who has the best burger. What's the best burger? That's a debate. Because for me is in an allegory based on its for California. Strictly from California. That's the only reason why it's the best because I thought that brain awesome. It's the best shake shack is awesome. I you can get alcohol there, you can get a similar very similar in and out. I'm not saying it's the same very similar. But then you add in a little bit of a you have a beer, it's like the conversation Travolta, same Jackson were having a Pulp Fiction you walk into McDonald's and get a glass of beer. Europe trip shake shack. All right. What about you got the best burgers, I'm saying, no in and out for sure. But every single time I say something on Twitter, east coast people. Come after me about five guys. It's like five bucks. That's a terrible burger don't think it's that good. I never had a five gallon, whereas everyone crazy, they don't even come at me with shake shack. Because it's like, oh, it's not even like a burger, it's shake shack. She's opened up at the Stanford mall. And there's a line of it every single day. There's a line like around the half the mall whenever I get a NATs park shake shack right there. Oh, yeah. All right. I can take that they've been in and out burger at oracle park. Can you imagine that that'd be sick? It's to hell Don healthy fat is where would you put that though? That'd be great idea. I dunno just put it somewhere. Man. I'd be all over it. And would you ever have one one? What's central midfield part or central park? The Braves field Chick-fil-A everywhere. Awesome. I don't know I'm hungry now. Yeah. Just thinking about that celebrating a little bit. But yeah, I slap in the face the cleansing then. I absolutely do. That's what. What? Here we go. Look it on the text line four zero eight five guys is far superior to in and out. Gets in a fight with me about this. I just don't get it. Right there. That's in the south bay that San Jose. They don't count. Okay. We everybody guys. Good prime you like five guys. All right. Look, I was just curious what everyone food is to each their own. What what actually gets you going on it, right? You can't just decide like for me the best burgers this. I love the way you broke that down, sir. I really do. It's really if you really wanna know like if it's not a fast food chain chain place. Burger Mojo burger in. We'll Glenn amazing. Just let you know. Didn't like you yelling at them. Franson Texas out there now. Very happy with you. And you're out south bay brethren. What are they Brian Murphy? They're crying. What a what a horrible idea was to bring up the the Trump serving burgers to Clemson. We'll just we'll skip over that. Yeah. You're hitting hitting the best burger argument, which is the most controversial. This is awful this. Let's move on move on research. What's the worst best burger or best burrito? Right which book. What people will get irritated about the most. All right. A number. We'll get back into baseball coming up at seven thirty with Ryan spider. Obviously, we'll talk about his hall of fame project eight days away from the final vote. If you haven't heard about that. It's very cool thing that he's doing polling players, but who should be in the hall of fame. So catch up with Ryan in a couple of minutes to talk about that. But we were let's get back to the NFL. We were talking about the divisional round. We talked a little bit about the chiefs and the colts game. I thought it was really impressive. And I did think the Rams are gonna win that game sticking with Saturday. I did not think that they're gonna shut down the Cowboys. And really don't you think? Now that they're kind of in just this limbo. I mean, Jason GARRETT'S not going anywhere. And really if you don't get Zeke Elliott going what you get forty seven yards on twenty carries. I it's pretty much a rap for you. As far as your offensive game plan. The Rams came out right in the mouth and move on. And also thought it was a huge win for shot. Mcveigh obviously talking about last year. You know, the the magic mind that McVeigh has this was a big win for him. Now, he's headed to the NFC championship game against the saints. I think that's going to these four teams left in the NFL any combination going to the Super Bowl. I'll take because it's going to be highly entertaining. Ultimate match though. Rams chiefs again ultimate matchup dome. I wanna see the old heads go. I wanna see Brady and Brees. Hey, look, I'm going to tell you this right now. This is that one where I'm going to sit back on Sunday and just go. I don't care who wins because any of these guys I wanna go for I don't have any hatred towards any of them. I'm with you. You people? Here are going to be like your nine year span you go to Heathrow. I don't hate anything. Because right now. Number sixteens out there, and he represents Joe Montana. Every single time out am I can't argue against it. Candlelight the guy he might have a giant shirt underneath that. He might have a giant possible pilot if he did. He's a huge giants fans. According to his dad, we think he's sure Z would be underneath there. I can see I can see Goth being like all TIMMY, he still have a timid Aubrey like Aubrey huff shares e no, no. He would not be is not okay. No, I don't see him being the Cody Rosca either BUSTER, Madison. Timmy, Cain bustard. Like, you're not going to go wrong with Kane shirty, that's a classic. That's what he's gotta wear underneath. I can dig that. So that's why that's why I'm all dude. It's it's fun to be honest with you. I would love to see them go to the Super Bowl and see yet. Another L A team lose. Yeah. Right now, I I wouldn't mind it either. It's fascinating to think that all four teams involved in the championship Brown next week in the top four point points. And that's how it's supposed to be. And it's top four teams force point scores. Could be on the offense of side of the ball. I could be I mean credible. When it comes to that from the defense is our great. He's got a great defense out of the four whose great who's really everyone has a huge strength on that defensive side. Very true. Everyone's got one of three levels covered for sure. But no one's got two or three or three Eric berry to play. Eric berry played this week. Be fascinating to watch come on. I thought Andrew luck.
