"Were you on like a five year old man? That's funny and you're like. Oh Hey thanks awesome. Thank you very much. I guess that's just how you did it right. You just like did you race it. I raced it. Yeah almost one the first Moto on the dame thing star it you know. It's one of those rights. They they bring you down there to beat you kinda deal Brian. I I had some great ones in Europe. I mean I one Athen I I had so many great fun memorable experiences all over Europe that I got paid to have. I mean yeah. I made my first million in in in Greece Greek Drachma Andrew Jackson. Like seven grand but Yeah I mean I did well in the German series. I raced in Sweden Switzerland. Yeah I I think to me as a mechanic. I'm like I traveled all over the place and I got to see all this cool place and I got paid for it. You know not a lot I got paid for. It's pretty cool. Pretty lucky here especially when you look at it now and you want to go on a trip with your wife and seven thousand dollars. Yeah Okay so you talked about having Canario on your team. And God bless Bob Bob Bob. He's a who was the guy that you maybe didn't sign that you could have or you showed over. Was there a guy that you're like? Hey I don't have a spot for you. And he turned out to be pretty damn good or is there a guy that you missed on a little bit not that I can really remember? Honestly a lot of hands with those guys like you know with me racing and stuff. They would come to me if I was kind of like the place win. If you didn't have something I guess you know what I mean. That was like legit legit back then but No I mean we did really well with the writers that we had I mean We brought So I don't know if you remember mechanic Jesse Black Yeah Yeah but Jesse and I started a shop called the dirt lab after I mean it was during my my racing spell but in two thousand nine ish. I WANNA say two thousand nine Clement assault called us at the shop and was like Hey I wanna come race Race out there. Can you guys help me or like sure? So we brought him to wash you. Oh Okay Yeah. Yeah he got third and the first thing. I want to say maybe qualified in the top. Three and time qualifying and then got third in the first motto. And then I think he crashed out of the second moto but that was really cool. I mean in all the guys lately to like since we've started back up I mean I. I really like all the riders that we've had and awesome. They're all very different. Like that. Combines IS I mean. He's an awesome kid and just Just honestly Jacqueline my eight year old just thinks the world of like I said Mitchell Harrison is great like I. I really wish we you know things would have gone a little bit differently with Mitchell but And Robbie wage is Awesome Ryan briefs. I mean he's he's doing great this year and he's just got such a fighting spirit. I I'm always pulling for that kid. He tries so hard sometimes. Too hard you know but I think he's You know he's GonNa surprise some people to in he'll be there hopefully for the long the long haul. Cool Man Fun Fun. Time to talk to you Ryan. I feel like we could go on longer if we really had to. With a lot of stories about well maybe maybe ones that shouldn't be public either. That's enough of that right now. It's you and I we cross paths along. I was working for privateers. You were a privateer. I was working for Yamaha. You're riding Yamaha so a lot of times. I watched you for sure up close from the mechanics area and and you had a nice career. You did a lot like you said like sometimes you must look back and be like This is different life just a totally different life from what you lead. Now you know and you're like did I do that. Yeah I did I guess so. Cool super cool yeah. I'm definitely appreciative. And I appreciate you know you'd think a me and and wanted to talk about it. Yeah well it makes make sure you Wilson because he's the one that got me thinking about you and checking your results and everything so yeah. Yeah yeah well I mean. Do you know it's like it's just. It's really cool. Just a crop of riders. Right now I think they have personality. I love guys like Dean that he's himself. You know what I mean like that it was lacking and I felt like in a sense. I couldn't during that time. I don't know it was like discouraged to be different right when tracing 'cause I mean I'm not like you know I mean I pride myself. I don't WanNa be like your typical. Yeah you were always a a different dude from a lot of racers one hundred percent I agree yep so for now guys like Dean. Just make it so much. He's super good giving fun guy with a great personality and he kicked motorcycle a good combination. That's the thing you could get guys that you know are fun and outgoing. But if they're not in contention than people don't care which Kinda sucks which is why I think like you know what I don't know if you've seen that show What are the drive to survive? Were they showcase the personalities of the guys like further down in the field? I mean like I. I'm hoping we could you know. Take playbook from that or patron that playbook and and really Go a little deeper. 'cause I mean that will just help everybody? You know everybody in the in the sport to actually monetize it a little better than what we do right now. I agree one hundred percent agree. It's it's for me as a guy in the media those are the guys like Dino and Roxanne these guys and I'm like yeah I we just had McGrath on on Monday. And he just just a great personality. Great Guy you know like that's what we need. You know what we guys now. We've got some of our top guys who just run from the media you know. They just don't want to do it and I get it. Not Everybody is Ryan Clark or Jeremy McGrath. But man is kind of kind of your of your job. I think anyway so yeah. Yeah for sure. I mean that's your that's what you do for your your partners. And and so. That's how they keep coming. Come and keep them coming back the year for you work hard for them and they work hard for you for sure. Well thanks thanks for doing this. Fly Racing Racer X podcast with Ryan Clark brought to you by maxis and rental. Thanks Ryan I really appreciate. I'm sure I'll see when the racing gets star backup you've got a big history with racer x and that's where this podcast is going and and and fly. It's a nice tie in there. Thanks for the time man. And he's got the thing he's completely laying on the gas tank trying to miss his treat and he would have gone. Even harder jumped farther. If he hasn't been you know hadn't been there. I love the Guy I don't think he's the greatest competitive sport ever had absolutely one hundred percent in my mind. I firmly believe that statement. I said about these modern day guys in Switzerland or Belgium forty five minutes on the same bike. That'd be crazy if they're not doing it if they think they're so much better nowadays than they were pool so different bikes different times beasts from the East Damon Bradshaw. It got to the point where I didn't WanNa leave home and once I got to the race I wasn't into it if I wasn't going to give one hundred percent. I'm not gonNA take their money working class here. Definitely an emotional moment for me just thinking to myself at it you know. It's amazing the stuff that goes to your head in a short amount of time of the things that you know that I was going to miss machine until you really open yours and you wanNA listen to what they're saying like beating a dead horse and I know from personal experience been anybody ever sitting down. "So how was that? How'd you get that you just went to the bank and leased it? Or how did that go for you? That's a huge deal now so Honestly Rockwell has always been a rich. I don't know if you know by know rich. A little bit so rich has always been a really good friend of mine and really supportive of the team and everything. I've tried to do to this day still So he had the semi. It was his semi okay. So basically that was you know Rockwell's contribution back then it wasn't rockwell though it was A whole different litany of things like it with kingdom crown clothing at one point. It was a shoe company at one point. It was bike sellers. Do you remember by Ya? Yeah right that was his His deal too so at at one point I did buy the tractor but it was still his trailer. Okay like I. I bought a new tractor. Maybe going into seven so so it. It was more difficult because obviously you let the logistics of putting a semi on the road are Ta They honestly handled back then. I think I handled everything as far as like you know the dot numbers and the permits and fuel tax and all that but He's always been very helpful with with outside of it too. So how many issues did you have a truck drivers over the years? Oh quite a few. I mean yeah. I had some of the truck drivers so that we've had are like some of the greatest people to So I mean Rick Williams drove for me Back in Gosh I wanNA say like Oh six. Oh seven somewhere in there. He went onto graves Yamaha. And he's a super good guy and was a super loyal trustworthy guy Jed Mingo was my original transport driver and he actually passed away in a plane. Crash Private Plane Crash During the season on your I don't remember that yeah it was It was crazy and But yeah truck. Drivers are a different breed For sure what truck drivers everyday on my job I guess and I am and I have my cdl so you know we all our own. Exactly now I just I just know that. A lot of private teams have have issues with truck drivers. It's just it's a standard deal either. They don't really know either. They think the job is driving the truck which it's so much more or they are Weirdos. God knows you know. So that's been really. I've been fortunate. I I have very dull strove for me to now Yamaha. Factory truck driver But I mean honestly if I could just touch on one thing real quick and that of all the things in the sport that that I personally accomplish those are cool but the best part about it for me has been seeing a lot of these guys that started with me grow into these really high powered roles and and seeing their development. So I mean I could go back to like air. Gas with my intern. So whistling at 'em when my JR Boyd worked for team? Solitaire for Justin Buckle I mean Kevin Strict Word. I went to PC. Aaron Johnson You know he like early team solitaire. Stephens Yeah Yeah exactly And the list goes on and on. I mean there's There's a lot of guys that have gone on to really good. You know positions and careers. Then it's not that we had a ton to do with that they were going to do that without us but it was cool that we recognize You know that these guys are great guys and and hopefully help them develop a little bit further. And then you know and I'm on to the next thing so are you this whole time. You're running this. Are you walking away with money at all The years that I was doing well in racing. I tried my very best to keep as much as I could. Separate put my own money in it. I mean there's no I mean really not really I mean but I was doing okay financially The thing that killed me was just the timing of like every guy that's ever been divorced that killed me But that coincided with The two thousand eight economic downturn so I had a non payment of A two hundred thousand dollar deal so When with Rondo but you know what like if you could script it any better. I mean it's like race team has non payment from fictional energy drinks. Can I have not seen that Exactly made up from a drink from was it. Where was it from? Where was it from It was from idiosyncrasies. That's it yes. Yes Mike John Doe Rhonda Thirst later. I mean what a great fricken sponsor though I mean it was so cool the first year. I didn't have any issues you know with them. They were awesome payments. Were on time and the second year contract with You know a quarter million dollar contract and I got payment one out of it. And here's where here's where I kinda struggle I? I did everything. They could pay every single person that whole year. That was out of my personal money because I mean we got and I mean that's what ruined. That's what ruined financially and I mean there was still it took me. I think to pay a couple of guys off like I owed Phil Nicoletti money for like two years and I was paying him like two hundred dollars a month. You know what I mean. It's like it was tough man hard. It's hard because I knew the physician they were in but at the same time that it was just putting the in that position to do. Yeah Yeah I remember. Jt's team didn't get paid by DNA and they all got stock nece worthless companies. Awesome Great. Thanks you know. It's that's part of the deal so in one way Ryan like it's funny because you had finished ninth overall and forty super cost which is which is way awesome and you've got all these great results and in one way like if your just on a team make personally money contingency all of that. You're making more money and probably less stress in your life but on the other hand. Maybe you're not running the suspension company. Or maybe you're not able to do to the bikes what you want on a some lower team and you don't do as well. It's six one half dozen on the other. You know what I mean. Yeah that goes yeah. I think big picture wise though it was big it was bigger than that. It was if I hadn't done that team solitaire thing. I don't think I'd be able to function at the level. I do in the company that I'm okay. Yeah Yeah Yeah you know. It was all the budget stuff. It was the design. Stop Learning to build a website. Learning Illustrator Photoshop getting permits with the city. And all of those things that I mean. Now I mean this last month in my my job I mean I'm processing millions of dollars of pay applications for these huge companies every month like I would. There's no way if I was just a dirt bike racer and I would be able to grasp you know the the budget side and I've learned so much from working in the in the field that I do now that I could bring back apply to the race team that I currently you know your md land and It just it just gives me great perspective I am I. I wouldn't want it to end in the other way because I mean in the end you know I really like were amount in my life. I mean I have an amazing wife that I met you know in twenty ten when she was doing. Pr For for American Suzuki Dungy. Oh cool and And I mean that you know I I have four kids. You know to with my first wife and my wife now and I'm just super pleased with where we're at and I'm you know like I said I'm able to not just get a job after racing start a career. Yeah Dude I do a lot of these guys who were lost. You know guys who are wandering around trying to figure out what to do when the music stops and their injuries rack up and the writings done and it's not easy you know so. Yeah if you don't have the challenge. I mean I experienced that too like you want that competitive side but more than anything. You need the community. I think is what kind of keeps you saying? And and I have my My work friends now and stuff that are you know? It's it's Kinda that same feeling. I have the guy that you know we feel like on a weekend when we're doing a big shutdown or You know closing intersections building out. You know all these infrastructure You know scopes work like we're going to war like it was you know we've got forty eight hours to get this road back open and do all these things so it's cool. It's challenging and It makes me look back and really appreciate my life though. I've led a very blessed life and and relatively injury free. I mean I'm pretty pain. Free Right now. None of my old injuries really bother me. I had a quite a few concussions. That's the only thing I worry about. you know anybody that were that? Akzo carbon-fiber Helmet back in the day. Probably the same with me so that was cool. Though it was it was cool. It looks cool cool. Ira stuff. There was a race in Ohio that Brian Twinkling when he was on on Troy. Honda try and I. I almost beat him in one moto in the I mode on the ones. I've climbed that he got me with two laps race. It was the Delta Chicken Festival. Second Moto I was wearing a helmet. I mean I was wearing it. I motor cross. We're in it's second. Second Motor went into the first turn in las my front end and woke up like five minutes later. I crash hard. It was like just done. Where was where was the weirdest place? You went racing in the off season. What was the off season? I I went to Argentina. Yeah Yeah with Oh God with Vallejo and I went down and then there was a guy from England and a few other people like Israel with their From you know he was obviously from South America. But we got there and they picked us up and They brought a straight to a whorehouse. They're like any journal. You want you just choose. We got you covered and I like Nano Manam cool. I gotTA friend. I'm not really into that like Nano. Who got you man? Whatever you want no problem and so how am I? Okay so you know I. I picked up on like Hey do you mind if we just talk? Is that cool? Yeah but you don't want to go places you don't want to be disrespectful but like This is a lot different than what I'm used to. This is how they bond. Maybe so but I went down there I rode for Yamaha. I went down there and they had a Honda for me. I brought my suspension and everything. They're like Oh yeah we'll have a brand new Yamaha..

"Were were great either but the at least the engine was you know they they were. GonNa get yourself out out of the gate back pain and Kelly got good starts a lot you know but yeah so at the end of two thousand. They did. They go one year. They won and done P. Marina. They were done they sold so the only thing. I got out of that whole thing was I got really nice. Set of Wilson Golf Club's sweet. Yeah they sold the wealth and so I mean rape passed away like quickly did he. Yeah it was like I mean. Don't call me on the time but I WANNA say from diagnosis to to. His passing was like six months or even lack year. Yeah so I mean he lives obviously positioning himself to for his family to be taken care of so he sold interest in the team so partway through the season. We switch you know. And it was like Wilson was part of the program And Yeah I mean they just there was no. There was nothing there for me in two thousand one right. So is that that when you did your own thing. That's when you started solitaire. No she doesn't want I just wrote out of a van just like the White Van Brigade Man. It was I ride both classes in. I'm assuming you have the vault open but I did both classes a lot and kind of my goals that year. I mean obviously just making money just trying to make money where I could so I would I would pick and choose which main event right heart in so I would. I would make both Maine's pretty much all the time but I knew I didn't have it in me to raise them both so if I felt like I was riding. You know the the two fifty well I would focus on that If not I would try and do as well as I could but I mean the money for the tooth. The the two fifty class that premier class. I guess I'll call. It was a lot better just to make an end with a couple of grand and then normally I would just focus on trying to do well on the satellite tiger for what happened at. Jt's in the same boat. He made a bunch of those double Maine's and be like well. I feel better on this by tonight. So I'm GonNa try in that main or vice versa. Whatever it was different different reasons different reasons for for trying hard and one class or the other right. I was just. I was just going through my goal that year. Hold on real quick. I was just. I was trying to double top ten. I did like a like a nine eleven or twelve. I almost did it but anyway. So that's why part of me wanted to call you for this podcast. So out of the Blue. I get a text from Dean Wilson saying the last guy. Who's the last guy to double main double make the main double race double means and I'm like I'm like I remember? Tyson Hansel did it. They stopped at the change. The rule in Oh seven I think six oh seven and I was like I was thinking that had so I knew you had done it but I knew you had done it before hassle and we're going back and forth and I'm like e JT. I'm like I think it's hassle. And then Dean hits me back with. I think it was Ryan Clark and I go. I'm not sure because I remembered you doing it before Hansel but then I went back and looked in the vault and dammit Dino was right two thousand four your loss guy that I can find. That did the double closing. So that's why that's how this whole podcast came about Ryan Award. I didn't even know I think I can't think of anybody after you. I I looked at a few guys. I thought that it but I know I mean I know. Jt and I were the ones that were doing it and putting it in the main. I mean there was a lot of guys that were trying to do it but yeah yeah yeah no. It goes fun. I mean it was a challenge. Like like he said I mean you. You really had to choose which twenty. We're going to go out hard in so like I wanNA say in Houston. I got in the lights. Main and I just I mean I didn't. I don't even think I really. I think I took off the gate. You know gone. Yeah you think about that right like that's so gnarly your heart rate's so high you got about what ten minutes maybe right. You know to to rest up so all right so one you're on your own again. Privateer life yeah so all one was a pretty good year. I think I was I was number ninety one that year. And you know I I stayed back. East during the nationals Davey was helping me out a lot. I would stand. Yeah I was staying at the racer x how they're Right by the cracker barrel and all that and riding at tracks with Chad Santer. And just doing you know how to get program and started coming together for me my outdoor nationals. Getting points every weekend or most of the weekends and Just sort of built it up Started you know getting better finishes making a little bit more money. Hit not fair races kind of figuring out like yeah I can. Actually you know prolong the real world or stay out of the real world for a little while And then I had a great idea that I was gonNA start the team right And I started it. Originally with a guy from Pennsylvania that had a dealership and I it was like a fifty fifty thing I had all the contacts and you gotTa Fund mover right so it was L. Cr racing and I talked to Kevin Johnson and think I'm an I'm forgetting. I think it was just Keith. Kevin and I Originally and Yeah so we had to fund mover we you know. We wrapped it. We had graphics. We had posters this kind of a big thing you know and like I got Terry Bazeley on board with it fly And it was cool. Rerun of the original fly athletes for sure. I don't think I wear the gear the first year but I mean the second year I did. Yeah so yeah I mean back when it was you know I mean it was tough to where it was A. It's come a long way but I I just I really really love and respect Terry Baizley. He always had my back no matter what and just consider him a mentor and someone that I really respect and look up to you and so it was. It was pretty awesome that he had faith in me to to start that back at And we had some good results but then just for me partnerships are just so tough. You know if you're not bringing like equal to the table it's just any partnership tough. I mean relationships are tough right so I you know I don't I definitely don't hold grudges or anything. I've forgiven all that. Like that was a shitty situation without the deal. I just I kind of found out. I got fired from my own team like when we had like a week break from from the nationals and I was back home and like somebody called me. They're like you got fired from Elsie are like My team fired from But that was that was basically. It seems team so were you. Were you not gelling with Keith? Cavenaugh or without that was fine. All that was cool. No no it was just just he was just a different personality you know. I don't know what his intentions exactly. Where Yeah you've got to wonder when people start a race team or try to do that. Like what are what are their intentions. You know if it's to make money you're in the wrong or anything but just an enjoy yourself. You're pretty much gonNA fail will enjoy yourself and you'll meet great people and you will have a lot of fun but you'll have access you'll have access and all that you'll be you'll feel like you're in the sport or in the no but yeah at the end of the day you're losing money. I mean a lot of people. Do it too literally. Put The headset on. You know they want to go home and tell people what I do like obviously being around it and realizing that it's not nearly as cool as it is on looks on TV. It's a lot of work right. You know we. We know that that that you know. That's that's a cool part of it but I mean for me. It's always been obviously the end result and and that's where. I mean off circle back to Chris Elliott Who helps me with the program now where? Dc's the value. And the other stuff. And I see you know I always want to win. You know what I mean. Obviously I know we're not winning on the budget. We have right now but the ultimate goal is like. Hey do we're gonNA. We're GONNA pay whatever we have to do to get more. You know That next spot and Chris was like well we need to like put it in perspective is is getting best. That much better than getting sick. Is it worth that you know? Yeah yeah once you see. The longevity of the team is the important thing to be able to build something overtime sustain. It grow at and they'd be in the position maybe ten years from now. Where were you know a title Contender Team? And maybe we never are. I don't know it's just the journey. I'm more about the the journey at this point and just enjoying the journey. So are you. Are you writing for Racer X at this point? How does the writing start because you always been really good at it? Calms were funny. They're interesting well. How does that come about? Does David say hey write something up? Yeah when I was staying there In West Virginia in a one I was. I was there at the Racetrack House every day. And got you know I mean I was good friends with Staley and And everyone there and I'd written some. You know like reviews on stuff as far as the. I can't even remember what it's called like revolver with The revolver column where I did like one I just wrote some other random stuff for him and baby Bryan were or pumped on it and they just they said hey if you want to write a column straight and that was like three years three or four years. I think we're doing it and I mean Dave Davey was just always really supportive and everything I did too. I mean from an Rita's well I mean. They supported my racing. You know they helped me out beyond the magazine and just doing really cool stuff. I mean I'm super appreciative for that. I think I was kind of a punk. Nah I was never like a punk kid wherever that way right. Yeah but I didn't fully grasp you know what people I think. Sometimes we're doing for me and it motorbike motorcycle racers. You know. And in general. It's like we think we're doing something really important. We're not doing anything important. We're just riding dirt bikes like fun. But it's really the stupidest thing to get paid to do right like you're just. You're so fortunate to be able to get paid to do something like that and you take it for granted when you don't realize like everybody else has to get up. Go to work clock in time and do spreadsheets. You know like mentor Ian just mopped floors or whatever it is but you know you just. You can't have that perspective that young in life but I just I. I'm so appreciative. For guys like Davey and read a You Know Terry basically and all the people that helped me to get to to just have the the career that I was able to have fly racing speaking to fly racing one of the guy on the line fly racing dot com. "Yeah being extra in Glendale just on the outskirts right by the stadium. Actually Stadium what do you? What do you do nowadays? So I got into construction which I think How to you know kind of a a knack for a background kind of being a writer especially when when I grew up you know we were working on a lot of our own things and So I mean it was my crew growing up was like mostly Gio and Ivan go and they were a little younger than me so they kind of the one that would always jump on the tractor. Was the one that the water drive you know and I just I picked up all those skills how to work on obviously small engines and And just fix whatever needed to be fixed to get through. And so when I got into construction all those things kind of you know like jumping jacker a a plate tamp would break down on the job you know just small tools that we use every day I would be like. Oh here at that and it just Kinda helps me. Kinda catch the eye of some of the higher ups quickly and so I moved from the end. Just a water truck driver. I got my seal You know some friend of mine offered me. You know twenty bucks an hour like you know I mean I can. I can do that for a while. So I jumped on that and After a couple of years I went from. I started working on a project that was building light. Rail here in Phoenix Central Phoenix and the general contractor is was Stacey wetback which is a Transit contractor a rail contractor that pretty much all they build. Light Rail Streetcar Related Projects. Bus Rapid Transit so just infrastructure project and Kinda over the company that I was working for and I thought you know. Maybe I'll try something different so I put in my notice and then I went in to say thank you to the people from the general contractor. 'cause they were great to me they always Gave me like Christmas bonuses on that project when I wasn't even working for that company so So I you know I told him. Hey I'm GONNA be leaving. Go do something else. But thank you and they're like hey you wanNA interview with us So I did and I ended up there and I've been there for over five years and just working on. Currently that Tempe Streetcar which is a project that built right through downtown. Tempe Mill Avenue Down University. So it's a really cool project. It's really challenging as far as Like every other construction project you can think of all wrapped into one. So there's no shortage of pink color. Cool sounds good. Then that Tempe Stadium. Still there were used to race. That's still there that was actually the fir- that's the first supercross I ever went to. I think Gio Ivan and I drove out In My F. One fifty and yeah we it might not have been the first one but it was one of the one of the first few I've ever been to. Oh Wow we were. We were down right down on Mill Avenue walking around and we were like think I had to be fifteen. I had my license and for some reason their parents let them drive out with me and we were like walking around trying to get into bars. Shit I heard that GIN GIN blossoms plan right yeah. Do you have a bike still? Do you still ride. When's the last time you ride wrote Robbie's the one that's made me start riding on really but yeah every time I go out there like the first couple of times I call. You didn't bring your gear. He'd like he'd always Razz me about it and You know it's kind of funny 'cause like I. I want to ride like the thought of writing is fun okay. But the thought of you know crashing is really stupid like okay. Well what if I you know? Yeah but whenever I go out there. He has a really cool. You know private track and I'll ride the you know the race bike with them. Ride is you know the cast bike. And we'll just go have some fun and hit some Johnson. Then my kids are getting into it a little bit. Not Too much but I mean my state year old son Declan. He idolized as well. I mean he loves all the writers that that ride for the team but he and Robbie have really cool we'll relationship and I mean he loved Mitchell. He loves that common he he just he's so into it it's really cool to see him And how the Rider Street? I'm so he's he wrote out there last time with Robbie and so the answer is I mean. I have all the bikes for the race team. You have access to ride bikes if I want to. But I don't have like a personal bike and I don't remember seeing a lot more. You know if I go out to California to ride with Robbie I'll I'll definitely ride. It's fun I enjoy it. I mean I- I hit pretty much everything on his supercross tracks. Oh I can still hit the Web's pretty well. I'm tall but I've got like you know two three laps. And that's what a time to grow up in New Mexico. Of course you mentioned Gio and Ivan and Keith Johnson and Kevin obviously a little younger than you before you was Hodges Travis. Hodges I'm Jay Johnson. I'm sure I'm forgetting guys. That was pretty cool. All you guys coming from a spot never really known for motor costs. And you were sort of the ringleader. The heyday of that. That's that's pretty neat. Pretty NEAT time to be around there. It was a very unique situation. I think it helped us. All obviously developed to you know become the the of writers that we were able to to reach And it it worked out really well because we all sort of paired off like we had an not a nemesis. I guess that's negative connotation but we arrive at our arrival. Yeah arrival there that we had to race against all the time and we had to the are back so unfortunately our parents kinda screwed it up for us a little bit that we didn't ride altogether as much as we. We should've you know if if we would have already together more we would've all been better but But obviously I had Isaiah Isaiah battled I mean from the time we're very young I WANNA say Geo and Keith. And then Ivan and Johnston were bucket forgot about Buffalo. Yeah right exactly. Yeah and Obviously I mean. Baku growing up was the most successful of all he was he was a bad dude as an amateur ran holy smokes. Yeah and he. I mean the cool part about it. Like what the team is. I've been able to to keep a lot of people involved in you know and I. I'm sure it more fun for me than it is for Justin but like when you know every year when the guys come here for a week or two. I'll just be like. Hey Man can you work with them? Can You So like briefs would ride with them quite a bit last year and and so it's fun to have those connections still and and justice just amazing human being. He's just a really good guy whenever I see him. I see him every now and then. I'm always always time to talk to him. Good Dude always. Yeah Really Nice if they great and as an awesome family and just Doing his thing here teaching but yeah I mean it was a really cool dynamic that we were able to build and just the fact that as many of us you know we're able to quote unquote make it at. The sport is pretty cool. I always I always talk about Yamaha. So they support Justin for ten years as an amateur all this money. All these bags all these parts. He wins all these races. He gets hurt a little bit here and there he wins the race for Yama. Troy suffers an injury the next year then gets fired. They give them like two years as a pro. That's it I'm always like I'm like this. Is The kid that you know one. Everything is an amateur one everywhere. And you're going to give two years and that's it that's it. He's a wash an even that in that two years he will. He won a super cross. Like I just shake my head. Sometimes over that part of the sport that I was referring to you know that's just like the ugly side of it you know it's It's just like that that treadmill that you referred to there's always the next guy coming up and you know I mean who's to say what's right and wrong. I mean you never know like you. Could you know you could pluck a guy that's running sixth or seventh and put him on the best bike and he might be a podium guy or might still be sixth or seventh? You just don't know how that person's GonNa React. It's more than just the motorcycle. It's it to you have around you. It's it's obviously the mental side of it so important and that's the side of it that you know. I think I was pretty good at but I I mean just like everybody else. I was a much better practice rider than I was a racer you know and and I can. I can push my level so hard practice and then I would show up to the race and I'd be like riding like ninety percent. You know finishing well but it's like I just could not get my mind to that level where I could push it on the edge for the whole twenty lap main event even though I was physically capable of doing it and I had the talent to do it. I just had that mental hiccup that can get that level. When do you get the de Marini ride? Is that two thousand. Yeah so I had a really good year in ninety nine hundred ninety eight I was on Cowie Mexico and my bike was really bad. I mean it was like that Kelly won twenty five. I was riding. Well I was riding really well. I think I was like top five or six points when I got hurt at Daytona. But the bike was so bad that. I I could barely jump the triples. You know I mean. Obviously the chapels were different back. Then they're right out of It was a struggle and I was. I was a small kid. It wasn't like a you know a hundred seventy for most of my career but early on I was just little You know I was like one hundred thirty eight hundred thirty five pounds or something like that and It was it was rough You know on the Suzuki's in ninety six and ninety seven. I didn't know what I was doing. But you know that's just everybody's learning back then because he didn't have all the facilities and stuff you do now. Ninety eight was a pretty decent year but at ninety eight I broke my arm and Daytona and I had a little falling out with my dad. Like he was really. He.

"Rand Clark great career as a privateer team solitaire. Of course forever and man. He had some really good results. When you go through the vault so looking forward to talking to Ryan about the role is played now with the managing the Nuclear blasts team and looking back on his career and everything else so please enjoy. Thanks again for the support for our sponsors. Thanks again to you. People listening. Hope you're doing. Well stay safe and enjoy the podcast and now as promised on the flyer racing racer x podcast a long time. Top privateer in the sport team owner as well and still around the pits now managing the nuclear blast Rockwell Yamaha squad. You've seen his name over the years it's Ryan Clark what's up Ryan reman man just Just got home from work and hanging out with the kids in the family and doing a lot of walks around the neighborhood and social isolation with The family so yeah then get on get on that front getting to spend a Lotta time at home. Yeah it's it's certainly really weird especially for yourself like a team manager. What what do you really do? Do you guys to keep riding. Do you tell them to take time off. I think every team and every riders in a different situation. Yeah I mean. We have obviously a lot of flexibility. And what we WANNA do. Because we're not you know really work kind of self managed I guess but you know Robbie wage mount still been riding Just going out in the hills. We got him a four fifty about a month ago in hopes of doing some some east coast rounds. But obviously that's not looking like it's GonNa Happen But And then Hunter Schlosser here in town still riding with Justin backlit quite a bit and so we're plugging away and trying to keep developing on that the bike and just be ready when rates that when the does drop again and who knows when that will be for sure it's bizarre. Hey weightman is a solid rider. A little underrated always you know I saw elsie cues but he fights through he puts it in or you know he does pretty well. He's right around that bubble. He's almost like a young Ryan. Clark a little bit right like just right there right behind. Some of the factory guys I think I mean as far as looking at him you know compared him to myself like the she's definitely much more talented rider than I ever was like. He's just so fluid I think He's GonNa turn some heads. I mean I know he already has with with his. You know some finishes this year just hasn't had midday the consistency that that we need him. Yup but I mean for me I see a lot of potential and Robbie like not just to get to you know a level upper two levels out but if if he really committed himself to it I think he could. He could really You know make waves in the sport in a long term. He's got he's got talent man for sure he can ride a motorcycle. There's no doubt about that. He's just a good kid too. Which is one of the reasons that we we kinda wanted to work with them Mellow and he's open to try different different things and he's just give judges fun to be around. Yeah. Rj works with us on the pulp fantasy side with jerky stuff so we talked to RJ. A little bit here and there so interesting family. So you're managing this thing. How many years is this for you now? Well I mean obviously. I took a long break from when I retired. Quit WHATEVER YOU WANNA call it back in twenty twelve and then twenty one hundred. Twenty six teen We started back up With flight and racing and I helped That program to Bring Coal Thompson down and sort of ended up with a little bit more responsibility than what I was kind. Yeah but you know when you get your name tied to something you really WanNa see. It's not only succeed but just not daily innate people and not you know and just just be a good present so I try to be active as I could. I could see that long-term that wasn't really a place that I wanted to hang my hat so I just figured I might as well do it again. You know and And started up the right team the following season with Chris Elliott and I mean Chris is basically he handles the management side as far as kind of a lot of the sponsorship but things the marketing the social media and I pretty much focused on the riders the bike development. And that sort of thing. So it's been really really good with him in that we both have Our strong suit. That complement one. Another and I think gets a really good foundation that we're building off of and we're we're both in it for the right reasons and we've picked up along the way that sort of fit in our. You know our ideals I guess and you're GonNa see the the long term and also just the benefit of being involved in a program like ours. That isn't a factory team. You have a lot of room to grow. You have the chance to be a really big part of it you got you got a good base onto you with a great bike. We struggled last year as I think. A lot of teams did the new bike coming out. And that was something that I was really hard on myself about. Honestly We we it was frustrating. took us a while to figure it out and But we did And you know we have a really good bike this year I'd put it up against any of the you know not premier team bikes but You know the second level of a team Really really pumped and I'm really proud of the guys of Erika and Janelle Ski and calling Berg. And then obviously GRANDPA during the suspension or chassis. Amazing Ray Tech helps us with the heads and and we development down there on their dino and It's just been a really good spend a lot of fun. Put the package together. That's where I really liked geek out on it. I just building again. Motorcycles right so cool and just seeing like the writer space when you get it right so you ran your own team forever raced team solitaire. Of course that's super hard to do trying to raise it the level you were at and run this team. I imagine. Now you're not racing. What's it been like for you like. What do you think some of the big differences are between back then and now and what are you better at now than you were then or what are you worst at now than you were back? Then do you think can you? Can you even put yourself back in his shoes of of. I don't know how many years solitaire all tier four but and compare it to now. I'm in a totally different place in my life. Now no I mean I. I hope I've learned a lesson. I mean I I made a Lotta mistakes. I mean as we all do and you know I mean that's what life's about you know making a mistake and learning from it And it's sometimes it takes more than one time of make mistake but I mean it was tough to do it honestly back then and it was too personal everything. Every there was no such thing as like walking away at the end of the season with the Prophet. You know it was. It was a passion project and not to say it's not a passion project now but it's like it. I. I'm not relying upon it for income anymore. I mean I don't take any money from the race team. I do it for fun and We get a budget now and we spend what we have to spend. And that's that's how we set our budget whereas before it was like you know I mean we had awesome writers you know back then as well like canary and we got him on the podium model but we spent a ton of money that we shouldn't have spent you know it didn't really have to spend and in the end it it. Kinda all caught up when the recession hit and people stop paying their bills. And it's just like you know. I mean I'm not saying like that was not what the reason why. My career went bad kind of that point. I started trailing off. And it's not really the reason why. I got divorced either but all those. Like all those things are just being so tied in together intertwined. It was kind of a recipe I'M NOT GONNA say bail but it wasn't a recipe for success. Fun Funny You don't. Yeah it's tough to look doesn't sound like you can look back on that fondly there's moments but overall right you look back on it and you're like yeah boy. That was rough well. It's just hard because you see as you get older and you look back. You see you see your fault. And that's that's kind of tough to deal with. You know what I mean. You're like when when I was twenty five or you know twenty six when I was sort of in the the bread and butter of my career where I was you know I mean I finished top ten and four fifty supercross chip one year. Your which I mean. That's a huge accomplishment. And but I never thought of that. I still thought at the end of that season. Like okay season but man. I'm not anywhere close to where I need to be. Which I think is the mentality that you need to have trying to. Everybody goes out there like trying to win. Whether you're being realistic with yourself or not but I love my career and I don't i. I'm so happy that journey I took I would have liked to have been more successful in racing As I think. Probably every single rider you've ever talked to would have liked to win more. You know even even the ones that one all the titles But overall it set me up really good for the rest of my life To where I was able to have a really legitimate career outside of motorcycles had nothing to do with the industry and that was sort of the promise. I made myself when I when I stopped racing. I'm never going to rely upon the motorcycle industry for a paycheck. Because it's just I did all my life and it was such a hard such difficult road. I knew that if I got into something else that was more stable men when I could come back to it I could come back to it for fun and enjoy the really good parts and and the crappy parts do 'cause you know there's obviously some chevy parts to it You know there's a lot of people that I think that are in it for maybe for the wrong reasons and But I just try to be true to myself and try to be super honest and transparent with everybody from riders and mechanics. 'cause like I mean you know when you got into being a mechanic you probably thought I'm GonNa make so much money being when I get to the factory level and I'm GonNa do this and that and and you know I try to be really out front with mechanics when they come to me and like. Hey you're gonNA make money probably for a long time and the only way you're really gonNA make money probably there if you just get super lucky and get it really generous writer that bonuses you out well and happen to be you know Ken rocks and level or you get out of the traveling dog and pony show and do something you know something else in the industry that is you know maybe a little more lucrative but I don't try to kill those dreams by any means because I really enjoyed my life and I definitely do it all over again even though I didn't really have had no retirement. You know when I when I stopped. It was like okay now. I need to build for my kids now. Your Life Starts Right. Yeah Yeah No. You're you're right. I I've told this story. A bunch on my my shows like getting the job at Yamaha was like an amazing thing and then I couldn't believe how little I was paid and how hard I was working and I was like wait. I'm a factory mechanic. Wait this. Isn't that cool. Wait seven days a week. I work now. I work five days hard. And they're like Oh man. We really need you to come in on the weekend. I mean okay. You know it'll be like a once in a while. Maybe but it's just I mean there's no break and I think it's not a bad thing I'm not trying to portray it as like but it gets exploited a little bit because people love it right if it was. You know bagging groceries. It's like hey we want you to come in on Saturday and Sunday for a special event. Do I get paid more to do that? Like no no I just. You know the job seven days a week. Know exactly if you WANNA win. If you want to be competitive just you can stop no. It's a giant treadmill and it never stops and I was working for Red Dog got hurt and they weren't taking me to the racist and I was on the weekends and going to movies with my wife and hanging out. I was like wow. This is weird. This is Kinda cool though. But this is weird. You know you don't really think about it that way until you get off this treadmill right like that's what a relationship. Oh Yeah. So you're in Phoenix now still there..

"I'm Alex and you're listening to I last fatherhood. What's doing is I am humbled and honor to announce that first-class fatherhood is the winner of the Linda and Richard. Our family is people's Choice Award for podcasting. I cannot say thank you enough to all of your listeners. Out there who voted I was nominated alongside some just powerhouse podcasters including former guests. I last fatherhood Dave Hollis alongside of his wife. Rachel House was nominated for their pot guests. Rise together also nominated was Janet Lansbury Debbie River. Jody more Dr Justin Colson doctor. Meg meeker Jessica Dahlquist Heidi and Dave Kozlowski and Rachel Nielsen. It is inspiring to see the interest in family centered podcasting. And I'm just proud to be part of it. I truly think that if we can get back to focusing on our family values strengthening our family units and reduce the number of kids growing up without a dad in their life. The majority of the problems that we're seeing our country would start to dissolve rapidly. I'm outta glazed. Thanks again for voting for I last fatherhood joining me now. First-class Father Ryan Clark. Welcome to first-class father. Oh man thanks for having me man. We've been trying to make sure we can work to get it done so. I'm glad we finally got to do it. Yeah I am too. Let's talk right here. How many kids do you have? And how old are they got three kids man? I have old babies of twenty warn She's a junior at lsu eighteen. He's a freshman at Arizona. State University plays football and also have a freshman in high school. Her name is Logan so I have dated a Jordan and the Logan. Wow very cool. What's sports activities? They all play grown-up. Oh they played everything I tried to put in everything that they can possibly get in My oldest my daughter. She actually played. Soccer in high school also ran track. She finished second in the long jump as a junior. She wanted to triple as a senior. In the state of Louisiana. My son played basketball football. Baseball soccer growing up ended up playing football in high school place for her methods now at Arizona State and now my youngest is volleyball player. Tried to put her in soccer but when she was about six Jasper mom. Hey Mom I don't use my hands. Anyways it possible for me to hold the umbrella why I put while I play soccer so I could be covered from from the sun and so we knew that she wasn't going to be outdoors type girl and so now. She plays volleyball in high school. And so we've all been pretty angry. Sports has taught you know a lot of them some things that you learn through those activities that I don't think you necessarily get if you're not a part of athletics yet very well said I agree with you there in Detroit. Get an opportunity to coach any your kids playing you enjoyed. I coached when they were very little. You know back when coaches can volunteer. You didn't necessarily have to be someone involved with organization. But as they got older I tried to kind of take a step back because I do realize because of my job because of who I am. Sometimes they can cast a large shadow. And I didn't want people to feel like I was always you know either looking coaches or I wanted it to be my way and I think it's good that you let your kids be told things by other authority figures. You know other adults and they learn how to handle those things to have those conversations how to build those relationships. I knew one day no matter what job they'd have. It probably wouldn't be with me as their boss at the learn how to take direction from someone else and I think those opportunities in those interactions allow you to learn these things. Yeah good stuff. If you could just take a minute please here too. I listen a little bit about your background. What you do oh well for me. Tv analysts were. Nfl played football for thirteen years. Nfl playing with watch the Redskins New York giants eight years with the Pittsburgh steelers won a super bowl there. I mean just playing some great people and I think growing up the way I did in Louisiana football being such a huge part of my life playing for playing the guys like Nick Sabin and then getting having the Joe Gibbs in the bill cars and the Mike Tomlin's all of these not only great coaches but great men men who've been very successful in life. I think those things really helped me become who I am today and I use little bits and pieces from everything I've learned on every level from each and every guy. Yeah that's awesome writes about. How old were you in? I became a father and had to be a dad kind of change your perspective on life. Man It's crazy I was nineteen. I was nineteen years. Old of Gina's mother was someone grew up with You know once we found out Jaydee was on the way it was a shop. Like I can be honest. I Tell People. Now it worked out really well Married a woman of had a great family able to raise our kids. You know in church and raise them. The way we felt was best and did our best but the start was difficult. Had great parents who who told me you know you're gonNA hit your books. You'RE GONNA stay in school. We're GONNA help you. We're GONNA make sure that you were involved in your daughter's life we're GonNa make sure that she understands who are father's father is in that you develop a relationship not of afraid not of a brother of someone she just knows but as a father you know so there are some nights you know. I come home from school. Or AFTER GAMES. She wins sleep at by. Mom would tell me I'm not helping you know this is your child. This is a child that made you need to learn of powder. Take care of her in a bank that I think that those you know moments and opportunities really developed a bond between me and my oldest daughter. That's amazing That I had my son when I was twenty one With my wife in ever since then it's just been Mir a you know how parents goes and it's not a science you know million so at a young age us being so young in having this family there are some times we disagree. There were some discussions that happen behind closed doors. That weren't around our children that were heated because she was raised one we by her parents. I was raised a different way. She had a certain idea of how things were supposed to go. I had my own ideas and so that was really the the discussions that I think we're tough to have. Sometimes people left the room crying. Sometimes you didn't necessarily understand other one or greed but will you left the role you had to be united and I think that was what I learned being very young. That helps us a lot. Now that our kids are of age we have. Yeah very well said Ryan. I was a little bit because I like to always ask about discipline. I know you were Punish people on the side of the ball. Disciplining your kids. What's happening dad? It was different from the discipline. You grew up with those a little bit different. I think my mom was the huge disciplinarian in my house. My Dad was Kinda laid back and so my mom was a big talker. You know she wanted to have conversations and my wife didn't really come from a conversational background. As it is were disciplined a displayed it. Also I was going with work. It's I wouldn't want to come home and just be fuss or punish always wanted to have a reason to understand my kids reasoning now. Wrong is wrong. You know if you're doing something in school that's against the rules. It's you've broken a role at some sort of way that something we need to talk about and we figure that out but you know kids fighting kids do different things and I always wanted to know the reason because even though things need to be disciplined there's also lessons that can be taught and so you know there were punishments in their war. Extra chores given up in there was like I was a big exercise puncture so it was a lot of you know we did. Bear crawls in you know we did different types of duck walks right. At least we could get in shape while we do our punishment but I always wanted to understand. Why would you do a certain thing if my child said something or spoke out of turn over disrespectful? Okay tell me what made you think that was okay to do what triggered this reaction because now if I know those things I've worn learned something else about you which I think is always important. You feel that you can talk to me but now I don't have to necessarily just discipline the action. I could discipline the journey into to get there. I can talk to you about what steps could have been different or sometimes I can honestly say oh I get that you know like I understand that you get in a fight on the playground alright. Why'd you fight? Well Daddy you know. I went up for the layup. The Guy Push me. I told him some about it and he punched me. That's a good reason to fight to me right. And you have to defend yourself and so everything wasn't always about your role I'm right. Let's be disciplined. Let's get to the root of the decision making so now we can make better decisions in the future. You have very cool. Ryan wanted to ask all the pro football players. I get on the PODCAST. You're currently playing Arizona. State one of the big tough decisions for a Lotta dads out here especially since all the stuff that came out rid reports about concussion. Stuff incident decision for parents decide to let their kids play tackle football that much more difficult to Dave. How do you feel about young kids playing contact football? What's a good age for them to start? You know who I started at four so all they know my experiences and obviously I was a guy who was a vice president of the NFL PA. I was executive board so I kind of I was a wrong when the news hit started to be more aware of what's going on. I let my son decided himself. I I didn't push him to award football There were years. I don't WanNA play tackle. I WANNA play. Flag makes perfect sense to me. That's fine you know you didn't have to be a football player. Came to me in eighth grade. He's I believe on one flippable highs. Today I would love to be a college athlete. College football player. I said Okay I can help you do that. And we're GONNA try to do our best to one keeping healthy to let you understand. Which ways are the best ways to play football in three help you excel to the highest of your ability? And that's the way we set about about doing it. I think he understands the risk. My wife understands the risk which I think is more important than anything. I want her to be comfortable with what our son is doing but more so it's his decision and I was going to support him and whatever that decision was he decided to play so my thought was. Let's be the best player possible. Safest player possible so. I've really done my best to teach him. Tim How to get his head out of the game how to make greet form. Taegu's but donate the physical football players will. Yeah and I think that the teaching of that the technique it goes a long way but I think also the fact slate. Football is so easily accessible now so many kids are playing flag back in the day. We didn't really have that if you had kids like Savages that really knew how to play the game playing against kiss. Well I'm not sure for some ugly moment so great that they have the opportunity now With the flag football. And obviously you have the sickle cell trait was. Is that something that all that any of your kids ended up having read his.

"ESPN RADIO ESPN ESPN news. I'd be remiss if I didn't have on my protege. My brother an outstanding outstanding. NFL analyst for the family espn a matter of fact. Like I think the only thing wrong with him in life is to number one that he was once a Washington redskin for some inexplicable reason and number two he goes. Sit Up the acolyte he security for the Lsu Tigers 'cause he started Lsu and anybody go to gets you something must be wrong with talk about my brother. The woman only Brian Clock is on a lower. What's up how you doing? Hey I just had to make sure you knew security watching you kissed litter four net. I just wanted to know I I just WanNa know. Are you ready to admit. Come on tell the Truth Ryan Clark. LSU GRANT LSU tiger. All scared to Cuba scares you. You scared about zero day. I know feel more. I don't I just don't listen. You knew coming into this thing that you're going to have to say so Ohio state or Clemson. The thing we got to do we just had to be one of them. We unprepared for this. The one thing we've been we've been in games like this. We've been fight. They had to go to Texas and win early when they they will play. Well you win the Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama and Nick Sabin. What you could do those things you are prepared for the fight and also we've got an underdog team right? Our coach coach was an underdog. Nobody wanted him stephen they everybody wanted Tom Hermit. Everybody wanted Jimbo Fisher. They said we settled or coach. Oser is so. He's fighting signed for him so he's sites for the state's fight for that a team. Joe Borough this is the guy that had to transfer couldn't start over J. T. Barrett couldn't start overdoing Haskins had to leaving home state income and find a new home and so every day these type of men are proving something and the last time they had to prove it this year. ryen clock interrupt interruptus emotional pom pom diatribe. That's going on right now and ask you a real football question because it does air on ESPN tonight. There's a national championship. Happy she game to Fourteen and Oh teams the Lsu Tigers clearly the number one team in the nation the way that they have looked this season going up against the reigning defending national champion. Clemson Tigers. Let me ask you this question. Firm strictly of football perspective. You've seen. LSU's defense you've seen Alabama dropped a forty one. You've seen them give up thirty eight on a couple of other teams here. Why do you believe other than the emotional pompoms just football why will Lsu beat clemson tonight in your estimate? I believe this team has improved. I believe in Queens Sylla's we have linebackers that could go side to side. Now they're going to have to make sure they can get on the ground tackle. Do you look at Hayden's and Ross and I'm simplified as they do tall wide receiver. Things Visa Agree Reuters. These aren't guys who get in and out of cups it cuts at roughly. What they do is get down to seal and catch fifty sixty balls embarrassingly junior? We got the best fifty fifty catcher in college football at the At the right corner and Christian Fulton is going to be a guy who gives drafted in the first three dollars. NFL draft come April. And so you have those type of guys on the outside what Clemson does welsby. Also passing standpoint doesn't scare me now I do believe they'll score points and they can get in the thirties. Also believe Clemson is not seen in all senses first cal- as as aggressive as they'll see tonight and finding so where fires they estimates the players you put them all over just Jefferson. It's like he is going to get killed field and also believe Joe Berle being seventeen thousand dollars one interception when being blitz. We'll have venables. The descends quarter of clemson guessing. On when when he can and cannot bring pressure. I think this is a different animal. Who what Clemson the scene and for us I believe we been games with teams just as good Ryan clock? NFL analyst extraordinaire for ESPN former Lsu. Taga here in the House for the National Championship game tonight. He's live choice truly right here on. ESPN RADIO ESPN news run. I don't know if anybody's asked you this question. I don't WanNa go to route transitioning to the NFL module just talking about the greatness of Patrick mahomes per se because we know it was phenomenal. What we saw him yesterday we get all of that? What I'm interested in nor Ryan disc? This is a dude that was the tenth overall pick. It was either Angel Ten. I think it was ten. Kansas City grabbed him. Okay clearly you you know Andy. Reid saw something in him. That other people may not have seen. Or what have you. I see this in college. He wasn't coming out of college. Nobody was how are you this. This great on the NFL level after we hadn't seen that on a collegiate level as a as a super bowl champion and a former NFL player. Could you explain. Explain to me how that happened how somebody could be so great on. NFL level level. Yeah you know I think Andy Reads a large part of that. We've seen him be successful with the cops with the Vicks and obviously mcnabb who was a great talent and now you go to Kansas City. We watched him with Alex. Smith has his best years and now a Patrick Mahomes so that helps. I talked to John Fox in degree. Knew about this exact same thing because if you remember he was in Chicago may draft drafted Mitchell trubisky and I was like coach. Fox How could you pass on Patrick. Mahomes he gets drafted at number ten. What did he say Ryan when we watched him work out? We saw all of these things you saw the arm strength. You saw this town. He said when he was there about was even though he had all of those things. You didn't necessarily see see the success at Texas Tech. which is what you're talking about as well right and so I think Andy? Reid saw all those same things coach Fox but he's felt like he's a smart enough and good enough to coach him up and get him in the right positions and then you couple the talent and Andy Reid with what they have for my skill talent talent perspective and is just the perfect storm to see a guy. Do exactly what Patrick Mahomes is doing. which is something? I don't believe we have seen in this league before Ryan Ryan Clark when I look at Patrick Mahomes and then I take into account the requisite weapons. He has available to him a Tyreek Hill. A Sammy Watkins Travis. Kelsey top two tied in and all of football the ball obviously Damian Williams Kimiko Hartman. There's no joke I etc.. Accenture based on the dominant I see San Francisco being capable love love on the defensive side of the ball. I think the only hope to of avoid a blowout in the Super Bowl is for Patrick. Mahomes to be opposite San Francisco because as much as I'm impressed by the Tennessee. Titans I don't WanNa see them against San Francisco because I don't think a running back even as great as Derrick Henry is and has been is going to be enough into stop an offset. What San Francisco has to throw at you right now your thoughts about that? Yeah I think you know I don't want to discredit the titans. Because I was tight it could do. Is Ugly the game up enough to where it stays close but when you look at Patrick Mahomes at Kansas City ended the match. We want to see though you want to see this great defense. And there's great front and see you can it be toppled or can they be bested by Patrick Mahomes. This talent and Andy Reid you also wants to know can the Kansas City. Step up enough to stop the run when playing against San Francisco so I believe that that game is the perfect storm for me. They match-up perspective. And you've been covering sports so long Stephen You know sometime. It's about the match up. If the match that makes things exciting and when you look at the San the forty niners. I don't believe this is beat by anyone but the Kansas City chiefs in the two thousand Twenty Playoffs Ryan Clark appreciate your man. Thanks a lot by the way. Do you give Green Bay. Any chance against San Francisco I do but the bad man Aaron Rodgers as you kind of talked about this morning I have to go back to being the even Batterman of years past. That team does not have a chance. Do you give Tennessee a chance against Kansas City. I do we think Tennessee. Beat them already and earlier the nearly beat them by running and keeping. Patrick mahomes on the sideline. I believe that the game is better right now and the offense is line they gotta keep it close enough to give Ryan tannehill opportunity opportunity late to make the place. We saw him make earlier in the season when they were able to win. I want to let you go Ryan Right now. WanNa let you go because I'm going to be dealing with you tomorrow because you're GonNa be a very depressed individual now. I want to be there for you. Because you're GONNA be there for you but there's no way in hell. Lsu what you swag. The Torture Amina season away to John. John Have you go down tonight. You go down the night right. We're we're like you. Who needs when I call you? What else call you tonight Lou? But at the phone I'll go pick it up. Thanks a lot bro. Japan Iran clock right here with Steven. ESPN RADIO ESPN. So proud of breath. He does a really really great job as he really does just an outstanding. NFL analyst and obviously knows college football playing for Lsu Star Lsu right here. He was right here with Steven..

"Don't want that to be an excuse for this upcoming Super Bowl so my opinion you patch mahomes against porn star Jimmy and made a first team win. That's what you should want. As far as I'm concerned it's not that Bill Brown as a ones won three division titles of five years but the bottom line is you've never gone past the divisional playoff round. "Greg Cody is back in. My Day is coming in a little while we will have Greg Cody back in my day in about ten minutes. He has decided to do one. So we will Flattered and honored that. He's decided to do the one thing that we ask him to do. Around here. New Year New Greg. Let's not get carried away so you guys wanted to talk about these damn coaching changes and I know so Mike Ryan is excited about these new. XFL rules as well so before we get to the XFL rules though Go ahead have added the giants. Now have new the head coach as well. It's the Patriots Wide Receiver coach. So they took the guy available from next check in charge of the worst position that they have and they made him the head head coach. What's his name? Oh judge judge great name for a coach. I mean you've got to rule and judge today that rule and the judge by name alone. They should be great coaches right. Gamma put it on the poll. Is Joe Judge a good name for a coach. So this is something that is a perpetual obsession because You've got matt rule. Doing what coaches do. They always come in and give you the quotes about how tough off their team's going to be and that they're going to believe in being aggressive and we're going to be more aggressive than the other guys so this is a quote from Matt Rule and you'll understand. This was back when he was the temple. But you'll understand what's going to happen here. When he gets to the pros run pass? Option has been my deal with the devil. He said we want a couple of games. But it wasn't played the way I wanted wanted it to be played. I want the game to look certain way with a certain brand run pass. Option has been a bridge from me as a way to win. We WanNA be tough. We believe in full gear weightlifting and the Oklahoma drill a quote unquote the Oklahoma drill along with other full contact drills was officially banned banned from NFL team practices in May two thousand and nineteen following years of declining use and increasing concerns for players safety. So we're GONNA how how tough. Yeah we're GONNA how tough you when we met rule or Joe Judge we're going to go into the division and we're going to be tougher than the other guys. Tough guys for Christian McCaffrey. It's GonNa carry the bulbs so much this once. I want to coach to say we're GONNA out finesse you sly and a bit cowardly what. Oh boy tackle lots of trick. PLAYS WANNA run out of balance preserve our bodies. We want all Ted Kuenz on our team. So can you guys explain aimed to me though of all of these guys who are Shell game around and Matt Rule is the latest popular guy because he wanted temple and look at Baylor was decent soon after just calamity after calamity at Baylor that ended up with our brows in hell seven years sixty million dollars from that rule seven years my agents. Good Man I ah and rich seven years sixty million dollars to get up to seventy million with incentives. Jesus what are we doing. Why is he dealing dealing with junk? Bond like you wonder realize your pen to start your agent. He's great at putting fat guys. In good places. In the Sports McCarthy me takes very little talent and makes it covenant wheel out. Ah He's he's good agent. I'd say he's a great age. It he just got in that role that kind of money. What is that is that? That's just pitting giants against Carolina Right. That's that's going. I sent him a message this morning. My agent and I said Hey I know this is your busy time scamming these owners out out of all of their money. You didn't think it was as funny as I ask. Matt rural actually called the giants addicted and match that contract. Of course Johnson. No no but that's not himself because then Dan's agent would be useless. They got a judge but think about it. Think about that for a second. So you take these two losers the panthers in the giant pit them against each other her the Baylor coach amazing. You Guys WanNa get who wants to give him seven. Years wants to give him six. Zero wants to give him seventy million dollars. Never mind that whole thing about the Oklahoma drill being banned can be great though surly but this is the thing this is you want straight talk. You know we're headed into the super bowl now. They're handful of football things that I hate. One of them is the draft. And one of them's a week before for the Super Bowl because so many people are talking about things and nobody knows what's going to happen and yet everything is based on. Let us examine. WHO This guy? Why is going to be and then after the draft? You have no idea whether you're teams any better or not. All of these hires today. We're sitting here and we're talking about them mm-hmm and none of us have any idea what's going to result and when you look at these playoffs. The teams in these playoffs did you think Mike. Zimmer Zimmer was better than Sean Payton did you think Mike rebel was better than Bill Belichick the margin of difference for whatever it is your coach brings is generally so small and then yet still when Seattle and San Francisco playing because there's no real difference between Pete Carroll and Shanahan even though Shanahan's great. That's not to disparage either. One of them it comes down to something microscopic at the end of the game. That has nothing to do with coaches and is entirely out of the control of the coaches. The Miami Dolphins often once made a head coaching hire. That I applauded because it seemed like such a refreshing hire. They hired a an offensive wiz. his name was Cam Cameron when he went one and fifteen and that is straight talk brought to you by straight talk wireless everything for less only at Walmart Greg Cote. He's back in my day next. Let's.

"Core because nothing really changed from four to five but that and so cold McCoy gets back and it's this offense is still way below here Ryan Clark Ryan Clark right he was alias Radio Espn News in the sewing brought this team on a nine game winning streak last year after losing the first three and it was all on his shoulders so it's not that easy you it's not klay off as these older guys are out as the two best in the game playing on to the best teams in the game because they're I hate to break to see the undefeated Jimmy G. he wouldn't be in my top ten and if play why but I if I could prepare this might be my top fifteen if you want just routine to see okay who are you really Jimmy Dean are you the guy that we saw for the first game of his career in New England that was making a place that helped the team win or you're the guy right now that's being carried can they win a super bowl like the Baltimore Ravens did a two thousand with Trent dilfer because to me that is what the team is shaping up to be Jimmy will make sure you don't mess it up costs out of hand were diagram plays it gets you outside the pocket where you have easy read where you have easy twenties but can you carry a team if Matt Brita can't get off if we can't get seven Coleman also the defense gives up some place can you bring us back and right now I believe question which is why he's not even a consideration for me in the top ten were you know that was a trick question of Maputo mention porn star Jimmy you know me after all here with Steven the ESPN RADIO ESPN new switching back to the AFC we assume that New England and Kansas City with the Creme de la creme everybody was second tier status or lower we watched Indianapolis Colts led by Jacoby Reset ultimately beat Patrick Mahomes in the Kansas City chiefs in Kansas City with the codes Defense Holding Kansas City of Patrick Mahomes thirteen points what are we to make coach after that performance right now I think the coach Bill to win to be honest with you Stephanie and they both the coach to win around Andrew look right protection was always deal with them so you go out you get quick Nelson you drive you draft Smith you get Costanzo you get these people that can make sure you protect the franchise and it also did was add a running game and you were able to get Marlin Mac and Saint of Christian McCaffrey delvin Cook and litter for net and now he's become a franchise is running back a guy that goes over one thirty to help you win the game on Sunday night and so I believe that this team is competitive I believe that this team has a chance to win the AFC south and they have football that travels now their little hampered on defense right now by injury but they were still able to stop a beat up. Kansas City team I'm going forward I wanna see what the passing game materialized do I believe you quoted Mercedes capable but he just a good starter or is he a starter that can win are you some games and that's what we have to learn as the season progresses because when you're in the playoffs and the Shawn Watson Patrick Mahomes and it's the Tom Brady You'RE GONNA have to have a quarterback that can go toe to toe with those guys and come out on top if you're Andrew Luck you regretting right now that you were tied based on the potential the show you know I can't say that he's regretting if he retired for the reasons he did is his if he couldn't handle it mentally anymore Italy how because of the physical strain stress of trying to be ready to play this game I don't think you are but if you felt like you need a break or if you just didn't WanNa put working and you're watching this team now you have to be sitting at home saying man this could have been my year round clock right here with Steven Espn radio he's been in politics get on Outta here We spoke earlier this morning about Baker Mayfield particularly in light of learning that Richard Sherman told the fifth when he did that Baker Mayfield did not shake his hand apparently failing to recognize that it would be caught on video that simply was not true nevertheless I still boarded highlighted the zest to be negative about making me feel which tells me you have a lot of people who don't like him they think he's been feeling very crowded prematurely and I think that was the motivation behind Richard Sherman a guy that we both love and respect telling a fib there what did you make of all of that and how think both caused look in light of this latest grew how whatever it is on the call yeah I I think I think has done enough to where we've already formed an opinion about it and the people who like him like him those who don't they they never will It was it was a lie stephen a you know you put it nicely by saying the field but tournament flat out lied and maybe misremembered it maybe he was just more so focused on the post coin toss handshake but he was wrong and he need a picture of Baker Mayfield that was untrue and Baker Mayfield as adults to make you feel the same as you do about which is what it seemed like rich really wanted safe that that little slight could affirmed everything he already felt about him and he thought that he didn't do anything he wasn't the MVP he doesn't have respect for this game he's not earning his strikes I believe all of those things were true Richard and steal art true but what he said about the man to bring it up was not also says a lot about Baker Mayfield that people immediately police we're sharing it and the media jumped on another players jumped on him and it was this huge thing the Baker Mayfield didn't even do now a lot of that has been brought on by his attitude is vital away he interacted immediate away interacts with the players the coaches and I think he's comfortable with that but if you're going to act like that you gotTa Ball right we we aren't necessarily inspired by Aaron Rodgers personnel doesn't matter how you behave right I gotta say this man I think you'll agree with me I think that's the only that's the only issue Baker Mayfield has I think if Baker Mayfield you're listening to the both of us right now I think it's important for us to tell him this I don't see anything wrong with him as a person I I respect this candour I respect the the he speaks his mind I respect the fact that he got he's got that bunker mentality you either for us or against us you just gotTa ball you gotta be a ball player you can go out the instinct to join at throw more in the substance than the amount of games you start it am I wrong in saying that no you're absolutely right I mean I think people I think people would did endearing like people would like it she's the ball be like this guy is all about his team the same way people liked it at Oklahoma to be honest with you even eight hours what people loved about Me he seemed like one of the guys that he would just one of the players the team rallied around him but when you're losing it comes off as unwarranted and cocky and you know almost eight holy and you can't be that and not be able to play well because you're going to be attacked people are gonNA come at you each and every week on games date and so right now for Baker Mayfield one hundred percent correct the one thing he has to fix is not as personality nine attitude it's just play Ryan watched Monday night and you know what I sort of scared me about Baker Mayfield if you remember I used to bring up the fact that he was relatively short to be playing the position that gave credit where credit was because of his ability to find the gaps in the scene which to throw the football through so it wouldn't be vision he can do what he did I watched a San Cisco Squad do something that I'm starting to think most teams can do against Baker Mayfield and that is encasing basically contained them within the pocket and I'm noticing he doesn't necessarily have the sidestep or the evasive ability to get away from these guys we can't get caught up in what we saw audible because Baltimore Justice joke defensively and it wasn't bakers arms that was killing them it was a lot of things that was killing a Baltimore rates but I'm seeing a guy that I fearful that the NFL feels like they may have figured him out and things are going to get worse before they get better for him. What about you I mean my problem is this even the first time we saw Baker Mayfield and live regular season action is the best we've ever seen and that was that night on Thursday the jets when he replaced tyrod Taylor to me he's been trending downhill since then and if you watch that game Monday eight for twenty two one hundred yard passes batted missing passes escaping the pocket when he still had opportunities to throw I mean Odell Beckham Julia through the first past crime and I love this this is in number one overall pick play this is it future? MVP play this isn't franchise of this isn't a franchise quarterback play I think you're right there seems like they're starting to be a bit of a template out on Baker Mayfield in the same way we're on guys like Dag Russell Wilson when they were young they need help it's seeming that Baker's more a complementary piece than VP's and it's really hurting the Cleveland browns right now mango get your recipe we don't have Georgia this year we they all so we got we got Florida Mississippi State Auburn and Alabama. That's what I'm talking about I knew Alabama but I thought got off easy but you still ain't beaten Alabama you do that right hey we gotta take care Florida first but with Alabama comb best believe that Wednesday I will have eligible Jersey Ohio state you know what I bet you will have it on if they lose to Florida Foyer very there we go you're listening to the Stephen Smith show ESPN RADIO ESPN news. "Sling eighty listen when you see him when you see him in a sling which you saw was a real athlete and what you saw me was a WanNa be they had no business triumph because I'll be damned if I wouldn't have called body else out if it was so I could be right I think I liked it I could take it man man let's get right to it first things first we just learned saquon Barkley is GonNa be out but also Ingram's GonNa be out for Thursday night football matchup between the giants and the New England patriots as if the giants and Daniel Jones needed this needed anything to happen now it's this what are we to say what have we make this considering this is the latest injury the New York giants game you WanNa Watch Stephen a I mean right you're two main targets are gone also Goldman has a concussion I mean who is Danny Jones GonNA throw the ball to Sterling Shepard obviously in concussion protocol but when you look at what Ingram was able to give Daniel Jones during his short time of starting you think back to that Tampa Bay game and they were explosive together he lost saquon Barkley in the first quarter of that game you really haven't got an opportunity to see Daniel Jones with the New York giants at full strength and now you put them up against the New England Patriots we talked today early on get up about the schedule that the Patriots have played in now you just add depleted giant team that if we're being honest wasn't all that good to begin with before people started to get injured and so this is something that you expect the Patriots to Login they'll take always amazed against Rookie quarterbacks and expect more of the same on Thursday night you know it's interesting we're bringing up the Patriots and we were just talking on the mental state of affairs as the Tom Brady 'cause the defense is elite there is no on that right now particularly after what happened to Chicago in London against the raiders as Jonathan Abrahams. to the point to point out to me or I take one I don't think one can argue that right now the patriots deserve to be crowd as the best defense in football aw with that being said Gronkowski's retired Antonio Brown is Gone Julian Edelman has been playing hurt and Tom Brady is forty two years of age having lost a step will you look at the Patriots offense as we speak Ryan Clark what do you see what are you concerned about what do you dismiss I really you see offense that above average only because Tom Brady understand what they need to do so much Julian Edelman has been injured he's dropped passes Josh Gordon hasn't looked as explosive as we come accustomed become accustomed to seeing him and also this running game hesitant in what you think you think Sony Michelle you expect dinner take that next step in his second year we haven't quite seen that he got rolling a little bit in the second half against Water attendant so I'm worried about this team from an office standpoint candidate get into the playoffs and if there isn't another game like the AFC championship find ways to to get the ball to people the same way they did run college ski that day to the way they were able to get settlements against Casey you go back to the super bowl if it wasn't the defense holding the Los Angeles Rams without a touchdown they don't win sort so they're definitely chasing the Almer of the offense but win Com Brady has shown you time time again he could show up in the bigger moments of each season you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and when your defense giving up a passing touchdown three five games you feel like you'll be in every game and you know Tom Brady has a chance to win it late he's the type of guy that can come up with the eight o'clock right he was eight. ESPN RADIO ESPN news. You know I'm just looking things right now because I haven't had a chance to speak to you about this but the thoughts when you learn that Jay Gruden was fired as coach of the Washington redskins something we expected going into this weekend. I do believe because he was so insisted that coat McCoy was his guy that they wanted to see what this team looked like with cold the average he throws it interception at a very critical point in the second quarter when this team has an opportunity to go into tile time down ninety seven or up if they can the drive and it just really showed Jay Gruden has no grasp on what this team needs to be better and then you even hear reports that the reason that in Haskins wasn't prepared to play against the giants is because he's been taking scout team reps so he wasn't even working or his first round draft pick could be prepared to play and it meant that it was time for a change and maybe five games too late you probably wanted to have this done before you brought in your quarterbacks have someone believing him somewhat groom him but now they made the switch to coach Callahan listening to him in his press conference once he being introduced he seems like he wants to bring discipline he wants to bring a heightened sense of urgency and that's exactly what this team and organization need you know we listen to rejoins staying with an NFC East we listen to Jerry Jones make some noise you know he was talking and he said the last two games and what you've seen from Dak Prescott that's not going to influence association's one way or another you know what we decided to do with Dak Prescott and why it's going to be based on his long term production as a party disappear on the Dallas cowboys is not going to be over these two games what do you make of that what those words from Jerry Jones and means to you and what did you see the outcome of all of this being with that Prescott has negotiations with the cowboys I think I think that gets his deal I never think the money is going to reach what back wanted to be I think back once would be the highest paid quarterback above and beyond what we normally see as these things in these contracts contracts move up in increments but I think that Prescott will get his money and also it smart for Jerry Jones the status Stephen because now he can say also went Dak Prescott police extremely well that that won't change his contract either from all the reports they have offered him a very good deal they've offered deal they would make him the highest paid maybe some of the the structure and the guaranteed money is in where that Prescott wanted to beat but I think they'll work to get there and on the other side of that you had to have a little relief if you're Dak Prescott because you every week you're not are dishing to get a certain amount of money Jerry Jones thinks that your body of Oregon as a whole is what he's going to pay you off and I expect him to be the highest paid quarterback in the League not by much but he'll get a little more than Jared Goff which is more than enough money and then crashing home come behind him and shatter at all Ryan Clark let me put you on the spot for a second you have your pick of the living you get to determine the pay scale the pecking order for quarterbacks in the National Football League who are your top five paid quarterbacks in the national football league right now and give them to me in order one to five go from five to one if you want okay if I might be doing okay it would be Tom Brady. Tom Brady would be five Decide Watson it'd be four Aaron Rodgers would be three Russell Wilson would be to patch mahomes would be one of Tom Brady ends five obviously because of age but we were just talking about this year he will be I think the Shawn Watson it's GonNa be I I believe we're talking about the shots watching as the future of football if he wasn't a part of the same draft as Patrick Mahomes I think Deshaun Watson is been amazing five touchdowns this weekend perfect passer rating just really coming back off a formula that wasn't his normal performance obviously mean you love Rogers you know what a bad man he is Russell Wilson I mean rush into has to be one or two in every MVP conversation and Patrick mahomes the rainy ADP's a guy that is just doing thank each and every week that we've never seen before he has become the gold standard of talent at the quarterback position very much so the way to Aaron Rodgers tickets Luther years this league work with me on this augment just for us to have fun I look at the Shaun Watson whose completing sixty nine percent of his passes for eleven touchdowns just one interception on the hire season okay this is the Shawn Watson that we're talking about he's been sacked eighteen thousand miles you gotTa Qbr seventy six and a one fifteen quarterback act rating I n not only that he's being coached by Bill O'Brien instead of Andy Reid so here's my question is it at ease or should it be that easy to rate Patrick Mahomes of Bob Shaw Watson considering what he has to work with compared to what the show it has to work with I know Fuller Ball don't get me wrong right when you look at when you look it behoves you got Andy Reid coach you you got Travis Kelsey the best tied in the foot you've had tyreek Hill Sammy Watkins is not a bad brother back in the past you head Kareem Hunt Not just dame now you got shady McCoy and Kansas sitting you look at the Shawn Watson he's playing with less when he asked him he absolutely is and you know the argument can't just be about this year you also have to go back to last year with Patrick Mahomes fifty touchdown in only twelve interceptions I believe Shawn Watson with somewhere around twenty six and nine Sarah like it's not a conversation but when we look at what Patrick Mahomes has done it is doing its historic it is it is his above and beyond the way we've ever seen any much start their career other than maybe Dan Marino and remember how he revolutionized passing in the game. I think Patrick the hub is doing that and it's even different because the times have changed and so I believe that the Mahomes Watson game that we'll see weekend now becomes our new peyton Manning Tom Brady I believe bad going to be this generation's quarterback match up that we can look to each and every year and Ryan Clark but you did not mention the one hundred and thirty seven and a half million dollar man seventy two million and guaranteed dollars coaching a quarterbacking war in San Francisco forty nine that would be Jimmy Garoppolo he was not in your top five Ryan Clark what would you say the people say other cities in Jimmy Jimmy Geez all he hasn't pushed the ball field now he's been lucky because he plays on the team with an incredible pass rush and amazing the game and he hasn't been asked to do these things but I am looking forward seeing him against the rams seahawks and the later on in the season the Ravens and and the Falcons in different the series that that's exactly why I wanted to do it the San Francisco Forty niners have the number one rushing attack in football with Brita most dot monster rather and coleman all averaging over five yards carrying you're talking around clock right here and listened around clock right.

"I hate about that sound that they just played leading into the show is that myself Mike Greenberg doc and others nothing but respect for all of our opinions but when it comes to something like this involving volunteers perfect I think the most profound voices on on this subject matter should be guys who played the game. I don't always feel that way first of all they always objective secondly always as knowledgeable sociable. Try to come across and by that. I'm not questioning their knowledge. I'm questioning. They're willing to their willingness to L. Acute and articulate their knowledge of the support in a very we candidate fashion the wait somebody like myself and many others would okay so there's a trustworthiness that comes along with people who are pundits commentators journalists in the industry industry that you can rely upon more so than the players themselves but in certain issues when it comes to what a football player actually was slash is as of repercussions that should come associated with it. I think it's important to make sure those voices are front and center so even although I have the Stephen a Smith show and I've got on television show and I've got my own radio show and I'm all over sportscenter beyond and all that other stuff on an issue like this. That's why I want to hear from Ryan Clark is why I want to hear Marcus peers. That's why I want to hear from Damien Woody. That's why that's why I appreciate Jon Runyan and you know executive. VP in the National Football League who handed down this penalty davanas perfect. Oh by the way Derrick Brooks who's in charge of appeals. If I remember correctly for the national football league I I want to hear from somebody like him. I want to hear from number four I hear for Roger Goodell and by the way proxy Roger Goodell in the National Football League office because because they made sure players made this decision about perfect not some you know political figurehead or something like that somebody from corporate side making that call having said all of that I think in the case of volunteers perfect I think no matter how sad and his teammates off the Oakland raiders about him being exiled from the League at least momentarily I think it's important to keep in mind that former football players at once handing down this punishment that's important point by the.

"Gruden's deficiency including j gruden's work work ethic or lack thereof and now you you're telling US Ryan he really did want Dwayne Anderson reported and I've never heard never never heard Ryan of a quarterback rookie quarterback three in the thrown into the lion's den without any preparation with the first team whatsoever for the entire week in practice practice. What are we to make of all of this? I mean I think what you said. It is painting the picture that many of us already expected Stephen and he just has no no wants to know will to make the Wayne Haskins his quarterback he didn't want to draft him in the first place and I believe he feels like his he was sabotaged in a way hey when you go out and use your first round pick or his first round pick on a quarterback that he doesn't feel is ready to play or he doesn't feel he wants to lead his his team when you look at what Jay Gruden has done from a career perspective especially at the quarterback position going far back as rg three three and kirk cousins that then you finally get Alex Smith and now he's injured and the tobacco that has followed. He's not a guy who's ready to handle that position. He's a smart XS and os it was coach and he's actually a really good. Do I thought he was good to meet but when you look at the way he's handled this position and a delegation of duties. The delegation of is operatives opportunities to play. He has not done a good job when he should have been held accountable to be before this but like you said if it's going to happen Monday it's about time because you could be ruining a very promising young player into way has waiting on Jay Gruden to get things to read. How promising do you do you feel? Haskins is compared to what you see from Daniel Jones watching them right now. Danny Jones is far ahead of Haskins has to be really honest coming out. I thought that's the way Haskins was the more talented passer. The more talented throw the ball. had a little bit more dynamic aspect to him. and you know you didn't really see all of that in the preseason but we saw everything from day. Jones thought the body sort of movement in the pocket he saw the the smart she saw the composer you saw his ability to make all the throws and so I do believe Danny Jones is the head of him right now but on the same token I believe Jones is also ahead of Kyle Murray and so for Dwayne has just about getting insists that it's his need it would be jade route and maybe sitting down and figuring out okay. What did you do well that at least put you in the conversation to be a top ten or top fifteen pick? Let's try to focus on those things and get them done. Instead of continuing to fight this kid because he's not sure pickle. He's not the guy he would have quarterback your team Ryan Clark Radio's Stephen. ESPN radio ESPN news kirk cousins. Let's get to him quarterback for the Minnesota. Vikings guaranteed twenty million per year for three years signing with the Minnesota Vikings lashing eighty four million dollars this year. He's looked horrible so much so that is leading receiver theline of called him out essentially. We've got to be able to throw the football can't rely on the running game to produce hundred fifty yards. We're not going to be successful that way to the point where Kirk cousins ultimately reached out and apologized to him a quarterback back apologizing to a wide receiver publicly means what Ryan Clark particularly when it comes to kirk cousins. I think it means you're in a situation Asian where you've accepted your fault. You've accepted that you can't get it done to know that feeling comes out and calls on a quarterback or calls always out the entire passing offense and no one comes to the defense of Kirk because there's no player steps up coach steps up and says you know what it's not about the past asa game. It's about the whole team. We all have to play better. I know you heard these cliches many times. When you try to put the focus on team it shows everyone in Minnesota knows Jose? This team is made to win right now and that they made a mistake and getting kirk cousins that they were actually better with case keenum. This is a team that was one game away away from playing in the Super Bowl two years ago and now you are a five hundred average football team strictly based on the fact that you don't don't have a quarterback they can go when you in the port game and to be in that place as a defender to be in that place as a wide receiver to being that place. If you're delving cook it's just unacceptable and I think kirk cousins is apologizing because he realizes how unacceptable it is. He realized how much at all he is with this team. Circumstances Arkham stances and I don't think he can be the one to fix it transitioned into their stated a black quarterback. We talked about this a couple of weeks ago where you look at some of the top quarterbacks vaccine game primarily pageant mahomes obviously Shawn Watson those names come to mind along with a few others Russell Wilson can't ignore him etc etc pro football focus of according to its ratings metrics taking into account even incomplete passes that were targeted or drop pass it. What have you have have Carson Wentz as the best quarterback football my right in saying that Jonathan with Carson Wentz is the best quarterback in Football Ryan Clark? You make sense how did that for me. I can't if if you look at if you look at the Philadelphia Eagles Season Carson Wentz had seven drops to lose a game to Detroit lions and more importantly you've had two drops in two weeks that win football games you beat Atlanta if those are catches the past that sideline and you also beat the Detroit lions if a bigger whiteside catches the deep post on fourth down big about that and I would have said that would have had them at four no that had him at four and and this is with your secondary being depleted jalen meals being P P Sidney Jones going out against the Green Bay packers watching divide say Adams go for one hundred eighty yards. You still have an opportunity to be Orono in this season no do I think that Patrick Mahomes is still the best quarterback football I absolutely do but Louis riddick somebody. I don't respect that I truly respect his knowledge. It's expected Carson went to be the MVP this year and I do think it's just those two balls not the not the other things that have happened to the Philadelphia Eagles. You've it just those two football all caught by professional. NFL wide receivers. We're talking about the eagles team differently. We're seeing them at four no oh I believe Carson Wentz is in the MVP conversation with Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady and Dak Prescott right now last question for you because I'm looking at it from this respective. I'll look at Kansas City. I look at Patrick Mahomes. I look at some of the struggles but he found a way to win games. They're still undefeated. tyreek hill comes back. I can't see anyone stopping this offense since I really really can't it was going to remind. I don't know if it's Dan Marino will mark super-duper mark Clayton and those boys or Dan fouts killing winslow sleep senior Charlie Charlie joiner in the crew from back in the day. I don't know Air Corps Yell. I don't know but I don't see anybody stopping. This offense. I reveal comes back. How you feel about against the chiefs ace is the greatest show on turf it really is it is it is those rams teams all over again and you look at the Detroit lions game? The reason isn't that they didn't score more points because it was just slightly off but when you look at McColl Hardman you think about Sammy Watkins also you had to marcus just Robinson said that this team is stacked in the way like we've never seen and then you can even go into the running back position where you have Sean McCoy Daryl Williams uh-huh and B's different guys who are producing at a rate that makes this team unstoppable the problem is even you could also scorn them as quickly as they can scorn on you and so they have to continue putting these points up but I think what we're looking at as long as they can keep these guys healthy like you say once Tyreek Hill gets back is there's going to be a historic run in Kansas City with Andy Reid and this quarterback Patrick Mahomes like we haven't seen in this league for very long time I lied. That wasn't the last question this is it. The Los Angeles Rams. Obviously they've got some troubles jared Goff. They've got one of the worst offenses and football in the first quarter jared Goff's got like sixty five off Cuba whatever it is in the fourth quarter pro football focus has labelled them as having the worst offensive line and football todd Gurley is complaining about not enough carries but the the media's asking questions every day about his health because everybody and their mother notices that they're not he's not the same player that he was a couple of years ago healthwise. He just seems compromised. I mean how much trouble are the rams and particularly with Seattle coming up and in particular with the way they looks just coming off of allowing Tampa Bay buccaneers to draw fifty five points on them. They're kind of trouble. I think when you when you look at a team that had the office player of the year a guy who touch touch the ball as much as tied girly has throughout the last three years and you come off of a game where you give up fifty five points and he only had five touches. You don't involved Volun- I mean five runs. You don't even involved in the passing game to get your most explosive player to football. You're in trouble and you we see now as well. If you have to depend on Jared Goff golf to create offense without the the play action pass aspect being a huge part of what you do. He's not that guy. He's not the talent that Carson wentz is he's. He's not the talent that Russell Russell Wilson is and so you go into this game against Seattle on tomorrow night very nervous. If you're Sean mcvay and his team you watch the defense get exploited by Jaimes Winston and the tabby nears three interceptions by your quarterback played a part in that does also affect on before touchdown but this isn't the same rams team we aw not only last year but even the year before that there are too many holes and not enough answers and solutions and so this team has to figure out a way to get things rolling and to they get the rolling now because they can find themselves finishing behind the San Francisco Forty Niners Anti Seattle Seahawk Ryan Clark never say that I'm not you buddy man because I I gave save your break have you on my radio show. I didn't bring up the blasphemy that you did out of your mouth in terms of more pressure being on Prescott said Arron Rogers Sunday. I let that go. I'll go and enjoy the rest of your week man. I'm looking forward to see you Sunday night on sports center see.

"He's in name but in the end it is appropriate that the New York giants made this call it is appropriate that they decided going this direction because ladies and gentlemen as much as we don't want to admit it the fans are owed something and if there's one thing every fan should have a a licensed to demand is hope you can't lose six times out of seven years missing the player six times out of seven years and then talk about how the save quarterback gotTa keep his job can't do it can't do it. That's the equivalent arriving fans of their money. You cannot do something like that. You cannot do something like that. It's wrong. It's absolutely positively wrong and it needs to be said it's just the truth but despite it being the truth and despite the fact that the New York giants went into this direction I got news for you. I'm not of the Mosit- ally manning these to retire because of Army Lie Manning Eight and twenty five in my last thirty three starts I and my NFL career. I don't WanNa go out like this. I want to be in a better team not with a bet offensive line A. T. would crop receivers especially now that you know. WBZ junior a team with an organisational structural plan that I can respect let me tell you something right now. If I'm ally manning I gotta try to find myself a better situation before I retired and I certainly don't WanNa see they're holding a clipboard for the twilight America. We I don't WanNa do that. He doesn't have to do that. He's made more money then almost any quarterback out there. He lamenting pocketed over two hundred and fifty million dollars. He's made his money playing football. You'll have to do this anymore. And if I'm ally Manny I'm here to tell you right now. Married got four kids. I'm I love to every and all that other stuff. I'D WANNA A. B. Out I want my career in better than this better than eight and twenty five record in my last thirty three starts better than losing my job in game three the of an NFL season to a rookie quarterback now I want situation is better than that. I do and oh by the way I'd want a better coach too because his one thing that I'm Tom Listen Pat Shurmur on Iraqi. You'RE GONNA win with his gut. His Gut told them to go up to Dave gettleman. Say It's confidant Jones get them in and him went to management. According to the reports they said if that's how you feel and that's what you WanNa do go ahead and do it so props Tamara prostitition forgiving forgiving gettleman and Shurmur the power to make this call because if you remember John Mara owner was on the record saying I hope to not see Dan you Jones at all this year because that that would be Eli Manning is doing great and we're winning football games. I hope we don't see Dan Jones at all. Well guess what you're already seeing him in week three. I don't think it's premature. I think it's necessary. I think you have to give giants fans a reason to hope that excuse me we can do some things here. I really really do but I will say about Pat Shurmur. I'm not here the question into football accurate and I'm not qualified I watch football as a fan as Zeh pundit and commentator and reporter I do not watch as a football aficionado an expert who played or coached on that level like Louis Louis Riddick like Ryan Clark like Damien Woody Light Marcus Spears and Jeff Saturday and mad at Tim Hasselbeck and Randy Moss and Tedy Bruschi and Rex Ryan and all of these boys know they played or coached the game. I did not so understand. This is is coming from a layman's perspective. I don't think Pat Shurmur ever did anything to deserve this job and I'm sick and tired of undeserving individuals getting these is jobs Pat German as an executive in the National Football League head coach. Which college produces the best NFL talent?

"A special edition of N._F._l.. Live on deck today at the N._F._l.. Celebrates one hundred season just six weeks away however we are just five weeks away in college. Football Opens It one hundred fiftieth the anniversary so today welcome N._F._l.. You were combining the two worlds to answer age-old question what college produces the best n._F._l.. Talent however I'm Wendy net sand Hutus here you know what's better to be on this panel our expert notice icy expert telling me when Lewis Minute of her panter on the list not on the House for back the quarterback guru he and his brother in a lot of N._F._l.. Games James A lot and Ryan Clark. You see the L. L._S._U.. They are ills college football. L. Is Jonathan Vilma bike. He will join US shortly. He happened to win a National Championship and Oh by the way a super bowl as well coming up on N._F._l.. Live will break down position by position which college produces the best quarterback Oklahoma has the number one overall pick the last two years we have the top ten plays all the N._F._l.. Superstars when they were in college and answering big question which school produces the best all time N._F._l.. Talent we had to ask the players themselves to kick things off. We're the first pick quarterback Oklahoma Viva say Oklahoma Alabama Clemson because proven it is one atop factory the Ohio state highest in Alabama. 'cause I never lost beat out. You really can't understand it into your inside. Sadness programming is all about the you for N._F._l.. Because of Georgia in every aspect but I think L._S._U.. CRESA environment of gray competition and guys is trying to feed off of IT University of Pittsburgh. You Got Dorset. Dan Marina you got Larry. Fitzgerald was not a me show. It's about having everybody involved in working for the Sandal clumps in would cushman he's been doing. He's making people believe everything is possible for House is the best our stop it. Stop stuff well. Let's start shall we with the most players from each college currently in the N._F._l.. Alabama leads the way with V with sixty five players players followed by Ohio state in second place with fifty eight so we're going to debate these schools I in terms of who is best at producing N._F._l.. Challenge here's a tale of the tape on Alabama at Ohio state success since the two thousand draft folks tools I have had thirty one first round picks the most of any school while the Buckeyes have thirteen more total picks in the last twenty drafts but Bama's players have been slightly more successful in the league producing three more pro bowlers than Ohio St Louis Rick. Let's start with with the crimson tide. They're starting eleven if you will offense and defense current N._F._l.. Talent there's any question that these are both very impressive lineups that if Alabama can roll these teams out there right now now. I think they'd win a few games without a doubt. If you look at the offense aside outside of the ball the first thing that jumps out of these starting eleven are the two wide receivers look Julio. Jones is one of the finest athletes in the N._F._l.. For guardless of position he's in the news right now because he's about to get a new contract extension and he's really one of the he's one of the transcendent players at the position that this game the scene Amari Cooper the same way. When Amari came out of college? I remember doing his tape in thinking point honestly as far as catching one pet and run wide receiver. I hadn't seen one as good as him as him. In a long long time on the defensive side look they have fine players throughout the eleven here really that when you get to the secondary and you guys like Eddie Jackson Landon Collins I mean these guys are disband tastic players on the front dont`a hightower our multiple time superbowl winner. These are great great players right here. Make our way to Columbus shower of the to Ohio state you go to the offense side of the football. Look the first thing that jumps out without a doubt as Ezekiel Elliott because if he's not the best running back in the N._F._l.. He would be considered a top three running back in the N._F._l.. Wide Receiver Michael Thomas Really someone who was unheralded coming out of college. He's a tremendous tremendous. Pro will probably be the highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. In short time then move over to the defensive side of the ball this this is where really this football team really kind of jumps off the board starting up Front Joey Bosa Cam Hayward those are two of the best defense alignment in the N._F._l.. Right now and then when you look down there at the Secondary Malcolm Dyson Dinkins Denzel Ward Marshon Lattimore doesn't let's get much better than that. All right Jonathan Vilma made his way again surly qualified to weigh in on this discussion. Look I mean there's a shortage of talent with either of these squads. It's almost ridiculous factory and a lot of ways both of these institutions but let the debate again a Ryan Clark. You can't pick L._S._U.. Just yet but when you look at this group what stands out L._S._U.'s better than both of these things we're gonNA get to that. We're supposed to be talking outlets. Let's be honest. There's amazing players. Neither one of them have a quarterback right before proven yet though little I mean why don't we always have to see something first before we can get you well Ray Richardson running back right you saw God compare that with you why time gentlemen we're GonNa play Nice Got Ninety minutes ago. You're the Glenn Difference from every other position that we're looking at okay fair enough now back to you Louis. It is a production results oriented industry. Is it not so it is fair to say seeing something. Does one believe they'll be success won't sure but I mean we're we'll see this is kind of like a combination of what they have done in college. What some of these guys have done in the pros in some of it's a little bit of projecting about what they're gonNA continue to do in the pros? That's how I'm going to expand it to that all right so at quarterback quarterback Dwayne Haskins I believe right now. There's no comparison as far as I don't care what A._J.. McCarron did it Alabama cows tape. Those Wayne has close exact Haskins is going to be a fine football player. What's going to happen to him? Really is going to be more predicated on what Washington redskins overall due to him then what he does to himself. I firmly believe that as far as these rousers overall look the wide receiver position Julio Jones Amari Cooper. Julio Jones's the standard if you go and look N._F._l.. For an offices and look in their scouting books books every team has a standard at every position that they put for scouts the suit for as far as whenever when their scouting people polio is going to be on that list for for many many teams he's about as good as it gets so skill positions at Alabama are awesome. The defensive players at Ohio State is what stands out for me as far as their front seven is concerned particularly their defensive line and their secondary Denzel Award Marshon Lattimore. You tell me a team that wouldn't take those two young men right now and startled. Let me ask you a specific question since you spend some time as an analyst watching these players at the collegiate level if you had to choose either of this group Alabama Ohio state who's players really got better or who took a bigger step forward than you anticipated when they got to the N._F._l.. Out To you to dance your last part no neither standout. They're pretty equal because watching these guys watching Jonathan Allen he played okay well Dante. I'll tell you knew who is going to be tremendous player defensive player C._J.. Moseley's same thing and then you go to the other side and you look at Joey Bosa Nick Bosa Darren like Malcolm Jenkins. I play with Malcolm Jenkins in in New Orleans knew he was going to be a study. He's Philistine but what is surprising how fast or House they defense is. I did not realize how fast defensive you think big ten you didn't big Brawley guys not so fast but these guys can move joey. Bosa also can move nick volks in Darren League. We know the Burner Malcolm J. Denzel War March. I mean that is a very very talented athletic fast fast defense. I thought I was going to jump in your rookie. I think that's a great question Wendy about as far as what teams teams have players that have gotten better pros. You look at Ohio state this look at their offense. In particular Michael. Thomas was a good wide receiver to hire Stayton. He's fantastic now. He's GonNa be highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. Andrew Norwell most people wouldn't even know Andrew Norwell well what from Andrew Doorbell he right now just judge Moore Norwell can't open open some N._F._l.. Spectacular and even on the defensive side of the ball. I didn't think Marshon lattimore. I've liked Marshon Lattimore at Ohio state. I didn't love Marcet. He has taken his game to another level as well in the really own Alabama side you know how I feel about Alabama I feel nick and what he does and how he builds his program but really focus on their offense align that was just look okay and think about that question. Wendy Wendy asked how many players have gotten better how many have continued to improve Andre Smith may have his best days at Alabama. Dame's carpenter has really been good pro Brian Kelly the jury still out he could be a he's a good player. He's GonNa play already in Indianapolis D._J.. fluker was he ever ever really that guy that dominant guy no. He hasn't been Cam Robinson. Have you seen story so it's interesting because they're preventing people have been many people who've hit Alabama and said they get the best out of their players at Alabama. Maybe it's good discussion legal where people go by what teams there drafted so we look at Michael Thomas he falls into a place where he needs an accurate passer and he's one of the most accurate passers all the time also about the place you land in ashore and how they develop you ask Josh Rosen he absolutely he knows that all too well. I ten Hasselbeck. The whole point of this is to pick one of our producers here a little bit we talked. I'm going Alabama mainly change quarterbacks. Yeah I think looks great point about the offensive line at Alabama because so many of them when you look at them just in terms of body type you're like Oh my God look at those guys body type wise but like I don't know that some of those guys have come in and be like Oh and they got a whole lot better. We're obviously splitting hairs here on this ongoing Alabama Lewis Sorry Nick. Oh from a hustle change your mind or did you stick the way said one because I don't care if between Haskins hasn't played. I think he's I think he's in the saints. Stratosphere is A._J.. McCarron so I like that I liked it their offense of line one of the things that talked about how they develop those guys on the defense aside but they're fun four plus their secondary this going with them Ryan Clark you have to pick one while I was brought here for one reason in one reason only when the Knicks because everyone knew it my answers it would be and what Tim Hasselbeck has proven is. You don't need a quarterback. That's really he's GonNa be Ohio state in Alabama that don't have quarterbacks guess what we don't need a quarterback back and by the way you don't want our first off was good enough for Bill Belichick your boy to draft him as Tom Brady's heir-apparent draft. We thought they they went to L._S._U.. Because this guy has what they decided to we throwing the ball all around the field Andrew Whitworth he's played a thousand years. There's a Guy Jerry go look at the Neil hundred may has like negative two percent body fat Michael Broncos out. There aren't key. We gotta wait on them but it's are are you at the back of position. That's all we got mad. I gotTa get here all even have to work conviction when you spoke scissors. I'm sorry I just so tim. I love your twenty. Two question your toughness Whoa West I've seen because as you know what fair enough he's at Alabama alum landon dare you wait into the circus that we've created. But what do you have to say about this. Whole debate ain't Ryan got some good good good stuff going on say? I wouldn't question his toughness at all. I don't know why you questioned Ryan toughness. I saw him not got a lot of Alabama's always number one no matter Corolla tyrod. Let me ask you a serious question. You know obviously nick. Sabin is a hall of Famer one of the best ever coach this game but specifically what does he do that has allowed such historic success at the university. Steve Alabama <hes> as a coach he speaks for as a coach. He represents his players as players coach. I would say he makes all this coach. All the players are on the him as a player as a father <hes> <hes> and as a as many tried to teach us they'd be a man and a great play all at one time you know so he does it all leading. Can you please tell the people why you are now better that you have trusted your career training with the guy from L._S._U.. Hey right you agreed trying to grow been gone on gone for years

New York Jets finalizing deal to hire Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator

"New York Jets have a new defensive coordinator. His name is Greg Williams. Excuse me. Former defensive coordinator. For the Cleveland Browns who took over as interim head coach once Hugh Jackson and Todd Haley, the offense coordinator in Cleveland were relieved of their duties actually thought he did a damn good job and was worthy of headstrong head coaching consideration. But they decided to give it to Freddie, Cureton because he's got a good relationship with Baker Mayfield a number one overall pick and that is that. Nevertheless, no matter which way, you slice it. It's going to be interesting to see how Adam gays. Bob's with Greg Williams. But I think that Greg Williams bountygate and all is a big time defensive coordinator that infuses the kinda right attitude, certainly not going to have tolerance for softies. I think that will work very very well with somebody like Jamal Adams. And I think the jets are moving in a different direction in a forward direction because of it.

"Seventeen greenie Orlovsky Ryan Clark, Marcus spears is ready to go live as we bring you all the drama from last night's stunner clubs in Alabama national championship game chapter four between these two going at direction. No one could have imagined. Plus Lamar Jackson heavily booed by his own fans was this plane disrespect. What would his teammates have to say in having his back? Plus James harden, a quick highlight that you absolutely have to see what he did this somebody last night, you probably missed it. Watching the championship game. We'll make sure we shall not and this hour of getting off which starts right now with of course, the pictures, and the sounds that last night national championship Clinton ban on the legends were ready to go Nick Sabin on one side debo Sweeney on the other. And then the kids Trevor Lawrence the freshman to Tango via Loa somebody should have won the Heisman. No score early. Alabama. I drive ten alert ski have this habit. This is going to be the story of the night for the Clemson defense and Brent Venables their defensive coordinator, greenie all these coverage disguise. He's gonna blitz off the slot. That tells to I've got to get this ball out of my hands. He's on blocked by answers that jury duty and you see Terrell just sitting there waiting anticipating that throat from to there for the pick and clemson's night gets off to eight huge star forty four yard touchdown for age row. First time saving is ever allowed a defensive touchdown on the opening drive to assess my bad and then Ryan Clark on the next driving makes up for it. Yeah. Absolutely. At this point. I'm saying this is the tour talking about lower. I was expecting to see. Hughes played a Jerry Jimmy this is why he was the winner. So sixty two yard touchdown twist. Seven seven three minutes into the game. Now, Clemson fourteen on the wrong twenty one. And there is a spectacular plate at t Higgins that is not a nineteen year old play. That is a ten year NFL veteran play burning Alabama's secondary for mistake in congress. And then they would get physical with Travis ATN sporting defenders powering touchdown cleansing up fourteen seven less than five minutes into the game. Alabama had only allowed seven points in the first five minutes of all of their games this season combined now second quarter two down and to what is going to get one more time. This is a great job by Mullins plan covered three. You get hitch on the outside. He locates over to number two of big intercepts interviews play for this team. What could have been a scoring drive for the Alabama crimson tide was second pick of the game getting their down twenty one sixteen cleanse, it would take over and then on their ensuing drive there knocking on the door again, and this will be the shortest touchdown. Trevor Lawrence with throw on the night. And travesty will take just that little shovel pass with that defensive end in a bind, and this is one. Clemson's offense started really opening it up. Thirty one sixteen at halftime MC Satan's gonna reach into the bag of tricks. Your third quarter. Ryan clark. What did you think of this? But say what England he reached into his bag this new role thing to pull out. This is a situation. You have to have an adjustment any rewards goat with Jean shorts on the by low and that offense on the field. This was not the play call for need sailing. I felt like he panic the everyone this morning is talking about eclipse would then take over and it's Lawrence. He sees the pressure. Any finds Justin Rawson just off there's gonna find the house. Yeah. This is why talent matters greeny, and this is this is my guys better than your guy. Ross gets one on one physical at the line of scrimmage makes Smith ball down. And then he gets in you'll feel Deontay Thomson. A little slip and him in Davo suffering the end zone who can get their first slams it up thirty seven sixty in their coach can feel same score this time how? Alabama going forward again on a fourth-down. Gene mentioned leave your best player on the field. If you wanna go for it on fourth down..

"ryan clark" Discussed on The Stephen A. Smith Show

"I'm usually happy to have my next guest sitting next to me, but he tried to get a little bit live with me today on national. He tried to get a little bit light supposed to be my protege. Okay. And what is he tries to turn? It gets me on national television. I've talking about the one and only NFL endless Jordan, Ryan Clark. What's going on, man, how you doing much, hey, you came up with that total. Recall, tried to hurt remind you who I am listen, just so you know people for folks to realize this I'm talking about drew Brees and Ryan Clark tries to disagree with me and all the stuff. Actually it was costing withdraws. And I had to remind him that I learned from you. I do know when I give speeches. I always say this. I'm brilliant because I know I'm not. I just listened to them. Steal from them. You didn't know that you've got that right. You you, you use my words. It gets me side, but she was still wrong now still wrong because quoting me was right, right, right. But as in the context of the discussion, we were having those remarks didn't apply. We'll get to that in because that's about costs and went to the Philadelphia Eagles. I wanna start off about drew Brees what you saw when you saw him break that all time passing yards record last night or the kind of thoughts coming into your mind? I is consistency, right? You the best, not a single game record. That's not a single season record that's a career record. And so for a guy who's five foot, eleven, a second round draft, pick a man who had a twenty five percent chance of coming back for a shoulder injury to end up where he will not end up because he still has more to play to break a record like that. It's all about his consistency talks about his ability and speech to his. Willingness to adapt. Right? Because. Aides to even the game is different from eighteen years ago when drew Brees entered the league and for him to be able to compete in this era in aero where the game has been more spread out an era where quarterbacks have gotten more athletic when they think that you need to be able to get in and out of the pocket for drew Brees to show this consistent level of excellence throughout his career. I think it it actually defies what we what we think as conventional wisdom makes a quarterback. You know, the, the height, the arm, strength, and the different measurable that we see. He's shown that you can do it through hard work. You can do it through understanding concepts. You can do it through through through durability with Agassi, and I think it's amazing that a guy like drew Brees now hose that then why don't you have him in your top five as well. All right. Why did you have somebody like Brett fog rated over my I know personally, and I know how you feel was guy. Oh, my you're losing semi question your low Ramey. Say how much. Great. I thought he was so all up trying to say odd to try to ask question. I know you consider him one of the great quarterbacks play this game, but she didn't say top-five feel that way about breakfast. I do feel that That way. way about breath with thirty six and the substance on the right way. Understand. Right in order to be in that conversation. At some point you have to be the best quarterback of your time drew. Brees has never been, and I hate this discussion because on a day where we should be talking about his accomplishment air, this comes into play. It's like talking about LeBron everytime we talk about LeBron his greatness is okay, where does he compare? He's insulted because we have them on. Right. How. Right? We'll go. So Tom Brady, right. The obviously we, we've seen the excellent. He does have the yards and he has five hundred passing TD's, but it's about his championships, Joe Montana. It's about his championships in a lot of times when we can't quantify things championships, a goes to measurable. It goes to the way that they play the game. And I looked on Twitter at that talked about drew Brees looking like my accountant. And what I meant by that is not necessarily just aesthetic. Look, just the the way it's his his, the ball spins off his hands..

"All right. So my advice to everybody is you watch football on Sundays to watch it with Ryan Clark. And by that, I mean follow him on Twitter because Laura, he tweets stuff during these games, and it is fascinating. It is like he's sitting in the room with you. It's so good. You can almost hear you saying it, but you said yourself the reason why you're tweeting because you get bored. I do see need an outlet. I need to know that I need someone to say these things to. That's not necessarily going to argue with me in front of my face. I could just ignore the mentions if I want. So we're going to do something here called explain your tweet. We will ask Ryan Clark to elaborate on some of the football takes. He puts out there during games. Let's start with last night. You tweeted during Monday night football? Yeah. I hear you coach Gruden. No regret on the trade at all. Raiders have no rush. And MAC is all the rush the bears need right now. You're right. Carrie. Yeah, because Jon Gruden is full of it. He's full of himself and he's full of the, you know what? If he says he doesn't regret this? What has happened when you give. Guy, a hundred million dollars. You make him the face of the franchise. So now the ego goes to him instead of understanding that players win gains and he's not gonna come out and say, he regrets it or even say he made a mistake when he knows he did and he's he's been able to call out Bruce Irvin he's been able to call out Derek Carr. What I'm saying is call yourself out because you know, you miss, do you know he is changing the way the Chicago Bears play football, and when I watch him ball, I need go to you and I think of the face because I know you made checking thing. All right. You got the rich for that one. I think we all sort of understood this one, not quite as obvious watching the giants on Sunday night. You tweeted boy thinks he's playing it is the door Newman high school right now because. Is it to a Numa Hassel was the highest food in the world. I'm from New Orleans. This were alive, manning win hate many odeal Beckham junior a lot of time, high school guys are out matched up front. So quarterbacks just running around and try to find their favorite player. That is what he lie was doing..
