Iowa caucuses kicks off Democratic nominating contest

"I have a second choice in the third choice and a fourth choice voters will have their chance to decide who they think should be the first choice the twenty twenty democratic presidential nomination the Iowa caucuses kicking off today many folks like that lady say they're still undecided on the fence about who will choose joining with more ABC's Ryan borough in cedar rapids Ryan a attended several of the candidates rallies what we've seen and heard this isn't like at our normal primary or election day where you go in with the candidate you punch your ticket about you you leave this room you know in part of the community for everyone to see and so having two three people in mind isn't necessarily a bad thing a lot of people go into the cockpit the ban all although prepared to be rude in one direction or another and what we saw over the last few days of the just absolutely right campaign cycle around the world the candidates whether be Bernie Sanders Elizabeth Warren Joe Biden interview footage at your and your bank at Joe's trying to convince people to show off the clock it because that is so much a part of what this is about trying to get as many people to fill up the gymnasium and cast their ballots as possible to the baby a clear feeling for where the nation is that heading into this election cycle that faced on those folks are getting is of course in direct contrast to senators who had to be and still have to be in Washington DC for the impeachment trial yeah absolutely then you know they they were stuck in Washington DC or talk about it a cold shower talking Bernie Sanders we're talking the woods with Warren all through Friday night so they don't allow people to judge Joe Biden Andrew Yang Tom sire to kind of work around the country a little bit more and and have a little bit more face to face side with some of these people that are that proof that if you look at the at the full complex several months leading up to this point eighty club which are still kind of dominated the state as far as her book but out they did not a campaign event she had that outlined the crucial moment they do other senators were not available and now they're back in Washington DC stopped at a missed out on a little bit of faith and we'll see if that ends up putting them in the polls today as you've been around watching these rallies in a do you get the feeling from who might come out of this with the most momentum interesting because the most well attended rally what Bernie Sanders three thousand people showed up for a concert yet here while I'm at it the rapid with vampire weekend concerts all but you always have to wonder are these three thousand people actually going to show up the cockpit or were they just there for the concert and then one of the things that they understand what I'm looking at there's little better turn out we are not going to we're just trying to vocalize these people get that I would also be a judge at about seven hundred eight hundred people at the event I went to a Joe Biden a little bit smaller but he had many more events about two hundred so it's kind of difficult to judge it really based on the polling is kind of a toss up between those four candidates thanks so much for the update rhyme we'll talk soon ABC's Ryan borough in cedar

"Thank you Steve Ryan borough is in the studio with us WGN radio news anchor and ABC news radio correspondent I think about everywhere I go I hate to admit this but everywhere I go I think about what will I do if a shooting happens because it's happening everywhere at schools at shopping malls at concerts and yesterday at Chicago VA hospital what can you tell us about the stranded this this is a story that we still don't have a lot of answers to an arms ban apparently the arms with some kind of assault rifles take some shots outside of the VA hospital on the west side and then continues this rampage on the inside we know there were several shattered windows bullet holes can still be seen outside of the building and then went inside and really within seconds of the VA police who were at the facility had him completely cornered and you know took him into custody a Chicago police came and nobody was hurt in all of the same correct yeah no one was hurt now why this gentleman did this we don't know our our reporting from ABC suggest this man is is not a military veteran we don't know what it was he was doing there there were some witnesses who reported hearing him saying things who hit me who hit me so it's possible he was seeking out somebody who have wronged him on the outside of the hospital that is something that witnesses have brought to us but we don't know anything beyond that and really authorities to this point are not letting us know we even know the guy's name I mean they had it within thirty seconds we don't know who this person is that yeah I mean usually we at least know one name yeah I mean I got to tell you I was in Dayton last week and we knew the shooters day with it and get out eight hours of the shooting as well as all the victims I mean it's so high you know his name they just haven't passed that information on hold us that they do not believe that he is a military veteran they have told us that they have had encounters with him before now are these encounters criminal encounters are these encounters mental health encounters we don't know at this point they believe he is a man in his thirties to forties you know with that Walmart shooting that went on there have been other walmarts that there have been reports and I would rather be safe than sorry a lot of times it turned out not to be a shooter sure I I still go to Walmart I went to Walmart over the weekend I will continue to do so but when you hear something like that I would rather them clear the store than take any chances I know it turned out to be a false report but I mean isn't that the way we have to do things and it's it's it's the fire alarm you know that goes off you should all get out of the building rights but a lot of us don't we don't move quickly we I did I don't nothing's the Jeff okay I I know I know but do you know how many I I've been in a restaurant before where the fire alarms going off every just kind of went I mean your fan page walking past us over there to ruin our mail on a given up this mail you know this was as you mentioned a VA hospital there were armed guards security guards nearby how does this play out differently if this is a regular hospital not to be a yeah I mean that that that was helpful I mean there are a lot of areas where there are armed guards in we don't know what this guy's intention was was he just trying to scare someone we don't know I mean you hope you hope that is the you know eight I don't know what you hope they that the good news is I guess out of all of this is that you know no shots were fired at anybody right now it's a lot of clean up going on today things that need to be replaced windows that need to be replaced but nobody was hurt and we don't know like I said if if he was trying to get it somebody if if he was just trying to scare someone if you Mister if he was trying to scare people we don't know is there a press conference scheduled I just find it kind of weird that we don't have any more information we're we're hoping for one the the the mayor and police superintendent are holding out of an honorary event right now and we're hoping that afterwards maybe they'll talk about this or at least tell us Hey we're gonna be talking about this later don't they all I mean I find this so bizarre that yeah we don't have is there reason to believe that because there with trying and withholding information that there is more to the story is there any I I don't know I don't know where they're at in their investigation right now I mean they're clearly getting a ton of phone calls from us and usually I would imagine you'd want you know to to do least shut us up for a little while yeah I know but they probably just want to make sure they got all their ducks in a row before you know and they may be waiting for formal charges they may still be trying to find out how many shots were fired still though they usually announce the stuff now I guess it matters that no one was injured things might be a different story has someone been injured hands and I want to point this out to you know he could have been killed I mean those officers could have come in and help him right on the spot that's one thing they said about the the Missouri kid who went into the Walmart with all that and it is yeah it was and was video and nobody knows what you're trying to do there I mean if there was an off duty firefighter help them at gunpoint there's nothing that says that that off duty firefighter didn't feel threatened and I absolutely yeah no I mean that may not about his intention he may just to protect you but you know that that that could have been held under this one thank god for that off duty firefighter who was there and then I had mentioned the walmarts or other I think there was one and did that for part one in Saint Charles where people thought there are they heard shots I know everybody is quick to react now but I have to admit if I hear anything that sounds like it if it's a motorcycle backfiring or somethin I'm not sticking around to find out what it is I'm going to get out I keep I keep running that the video in my head of Dayton over and over of of the people who are obviously hearing something behind them and they initially see their initial reaction like what the heck is that and then all of a sudden they see people running you can see in their mind all said oh gosh get away you see that process that goes through their heads when they'd when something turns from what's that tell no run you know and it's it's it's scary but it yet it's kind of interesting to watch that that you know how people really had everyone not ever ever would not everyone's always in tune that what is going on is something bad that I need to get away of course and things are heightened now there was some kids were out in the neighborhood and somebody blew off and I made a or something I have to be honest with you for a half a second I'm like I stopped I thought should I call nine one one was that a gunshot and it it wasn't I didn't think it was but I bet police are and nine one one officers are getting more calls because what if it was what if I just dropped bombs at all it's just an animated goofy kid you know that the shot spotter technology that they've added to the west and south side of Chicago are supposed to be able to identify one gun shots are fired in a reason that they put that in there is because they found out they were learning about a lot of shootings until someone actually called nine one one so if shots were fired and no one reported nine one one they have no idea right now they know as soon as the shots fired it alerts there I believe it's it's a hand held their phone device and then there there wow so I mean maybe the victim is the only person who knew that a shot was fired or maybe someone's too scared to say something they're already there so I'd not everyone's got this kind of technology there is something they can differentiate a backfiring car and I'm AT and an actual gunshot all right well the story is far from over I know Ryan you'll continue to chase it let us know what goes on detail wise thanks so much for stopping in you gotta should at that number a quick break and then more show billing went to WGN.

"It's ABC's Ryan borough in Dayton I'm sherry prestin ABC news and of course we are talking about the mass shooting that happened in Dayton last night as you just heard about its news radio six ten WTVN Bob Randolph website Jeff we are taking your calls on this eight two one WTVM one eight hundred six ten WTVN are something you know that that you don't expect to wake up to I as I did this morning I I woke up to a a text asking who could come in and cover the mass shooting that happened in Dayton is I rub my eyes this morning either what mass shooting in Dayton one o'clock last night one AM so technically it happened today gunmen as the you heard identified a twenty four years old is what I believe he decided that he will go down to the organ district in Dayton and again this hits close to home for a lot of people and we found some callers on who have had friends who were down and there have been down in that area before we live over that way maybe you do maybe you know somebody who lives in Dayton who has been to that area a number of times it's much like our arena district is here maybe a little bit on the smaller side but still very very similar we heard from our counterparts in our I heart media station out in Dayton Jeff Stevens he informed us that this morning he was trying to get into the building and they basically would not let him in because where they are he is right next door to where this happened at a place called net peppers that place is that business is not open that business is closed today because somebody who decided that the for whatever reason that they were going to go do this did this they went out and they shot people we don't know why yet they are still trying to piece together the FBI they have raided the home of the gunman they're trying to find information on why this gentleman did what he did and I use the term gentlemen very loosely I'm mad about this you should be mad too especially if you are somebody who's like me again my background real quick I'm a West Virginia native I grew up around firearms I was taught to respect firearms I know what kind of damage they can do and obviously this gentleman out in Dayton did as well because he took a weapon and he went out and he fired multiple shots he was wearing body armor I think that's important to know because that means he premeditated this he knew what he was doing he went out and did it we don't know why and I am so looking forward to that answer there is a one o'clock press conference that we expect to start at any moment in the Dayton area we don't know forget any more updated information on what we already have we are keeping an ear on it and if need be we will break into that as necessary now mass shootings we talk about this all the time everybody gets all up in arms about a mass shooting as well you should you're allowed to be mad about this you're allowed to be upset about this don't let anybody tell you differently these are awful they're horrible they're evil Jeff is said that multiple times eight easy vole and you can not we have the code that word in any way shape or form but let's butted up against this this is from the Chicago sun times this is dated August fourth that is today nine eleven AM central time ten eleven AM our time here's the headline three killed thirty seven wounded in Chicago shootings sense Friday evening Bob what happens every weekend that's not just a one time thing that's not that's the Chicago shootings listen we know that happens all the time and that if if we weren't talking about the two incidents that occur if the incidents had not occurred yesterday we wouldn't be talking about Chicago but that happen all the time but that didn't get talked about and in your gun guy what are the gun laws like in Chicago there are some of the strictest in the country and again the other will work in right they're working like a champ the other voice that you're hearing that is website Jeff my name is Bob Randolph this is news radio six ten WTVN we are talking about the mass shooting that happened in Dayton yesterday we want to hear your comments we want to hear your thoughts we've had some great conversations today eight two one WTVN one eight hundred six ten WTVN Bob by the way I just talked to you don't know this yet so sorry talk over the radio on this but I just talked to our chief of police Tom Quinlan is a good friend and asked him if he'd be willing to talk a bit about what is law enforcement do on both the shooting somewhat shorts moving forward he said to do that we're a call him and talk to him about seven minutes we'll talk to chief Quinlan again he's not involved in this but I just want to get perspective of what does law enforcement do both and and and el Paso Texas and Dayton and what does that look like chief Quinlan of St Columba's division place will be joining us on that about seven minutes fantastic excellent look forward to having him on it because again this is the this is important information because even though it's never happened or not happened here in Columbus the way things are going the world okay we're gonna go ahead we jump in with press conference right now in Dayton Ohio wine a city commissioner Chris Shaw head of the Dade foundation Mike parks city manager Shirley.
