"We saw last week. The Democratic convention had things actually play out. Certainly not optimistic, Bruce. I think that came as a bit of a surprise. It really started with the president's speech in Charlotte yesterday. He was only supposed to give a brief remarks to the delegates There ended up talking for 52 minutes and didn't really offer up much optimism. It was just a lot of A long list of grievances of issues the president has with the right wide variety of people in groups and then that extended into the programming. Last night, you heard Republicans in their associates warned of a potential dystopian future of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were to be elected the next president and vice president. They did talk a little bit about President Trump's accomplishments in office. They tried to, in many ways, rewrite his approach to the Corona virus pandemic. But to your point, Bruce, the Republicans were promising that this was going to be all about hope and optimism. And we didn't really see too much of that. Yesterday. First Lady Melania Trump is said to be tonight's keynote speaker from the newly renovated White House Rose Garden. Do we know what to expect from her speech? Maybe now is one. We'll see that hope and optimism. You know, I think there's no doubt Bruce that the Trump campaign is concerned about where the president stands right now, with female voters across the country, particularly White suburban women that the president made no secret of that making, you know, direct outreach to them. Uh and today we think a lot of the focus of the programming is going to be specifically directed towards women. And Melania Trump capping that all off. You know, Melania Trump has a much better approval rating that President Trump. She is genuinely liked Mohr than President Trump is by most Americans, and where Yesterday. We really saw the campaign and the convention seemed to really drive home. The messages that connect with his base. Perhaps tonight will see them try and expand their outreach a little bit more, because it's gonna be difficult for them to win if they can't draw in some independent, maybe even Democratic voters and so far we haven't seen that sort of outreach in this convention. As of yet, is the president gonna be speaking every night of the convention. We do expect some sort of an appearance. They're calling it every night from the President Bruce, you know, Yesterday we saw two little moments from the White House where we saw him with first responders in people that have been dealing with a crowd, a virus pandemic and You know, it could be something along those lines. You know, the Republican Party has promised surprises each and every night, But we know that those surprises in some way, shape or form will include the president. He is the star of the Republican Party. This is the party of Trump on DH. That's exactly how this convention is playing out. Alright. Thanks. Ryan Appreciated as always. CNN, Washington correspondent Ryan Nobles joining us live this morning from the White House, actually. 87 14, now plenty of twists and turns of the saga of Jerry Falwell Jr. Liberty University, said early yesterday that Falwell agreed to Isa resign as president and step down from the board of directors. I mentioned it just before had the opportunity to be at the one hundred first PGA championship Bethpage Black one of the most difficult courses in the country was very difficult for Brooks CAPCO for basically three of his four rounds kept canal wins his fourth major and his last eight starts history was made by Brooks, captain, and now joining us here on our progressive insurance hotline, the talk about kept his win at one. It means for the sport, moving forward is Ryan Bolangir of golf news net. He joins us now Ryan appreciate your time tonight. Thanks for a few minutes. Pleasure. Thanks for having me on. So obviously kept a became the story, tiger was the big story coming in, and we'll get the tiger in a moment. But how would you kind of breakdown and surmise what we watch kept accomplish. This weekend. Obviously his fourth major in his last eight starts. That's incredible history and just an incredible performance all weekend long from Brooks. Becomes the first guy in the history of major championship golf to be an active two time, defending champion of two majors at the same time that, that's pretty incredible. We play a lot of majors the history of the sports to have never had that happened until Sunday is pretty remarkable, and what kept you did. I think in gutting it out on Sunday in difficult conditions for the entire field. I mean not just for him but for the entire field on Sunday and kind of letting it get away from him. And then realizing it was getting away from him. And having just enough to be able to finish it off with a little help from Dustin Johnson kind of losing it, once he realized he had an opportunity to win. I think this is his most impressive major win today because it's the one that took the most kinda moxie. The, the most recognition of the moment that was in front of him. And he steps forward, walk through that door analysis, four time, major champion and suddenly, in the space of twenty four months, he's almost at the career, Phil Mickelson. He's had the career voi- McElroy these. That better than the career of Jordan speed. So he puts himself in some pretty remarkable company. You know, Ryan, he said afterwards that, that was to him the one he thinks over a member of the most of his four major wins because of what you said. He had to gut it out on Sunday. When you watch them though, this weekend, specifically his first two rounds on Thursday and Friday and he sets the course record with a sixty three on Thursday. What made him so great this weekend. Because of course Beck pays black is certainly not an easy course in for most of this weekend, he made it look pretty easy. He did this golf course isn't easy. I mean, the VA of America's set it up, very fairly with twenty two to twenty eight yard white fair waves. But that's still pretty small by PGA tour standards. And there was plenty of penalty when you miss the fairway other than kind of small swath, I cut you went right into some deep thick nasty stuff and for the better part of the week Brooks avoided that off the TV I'll still playing a really powerful game. I mean he had driver frequently and hit very accurately, and that sent himself up to do. A lot of things including being very aggressive with the second shots hitting shorter clubs in greens from better grasp than pretty much everybody in the field. And he took advantage. You have to be the best putter in the field. That was Jordan speed. He just had to be someone who stuck the ball closer to the whole than everybody else and make enough of those parts to capture the championship. And then he just pretty much put the thing away on Thursday with sixty three with tiger. Woods masters champion reigning masters champion playing alongside of them. I think that spoke volumes about help Brooks belt of himself going into the champagne chip what he thought he could and should accomplish, and that he did it, even as the conditions deteriorated and everything seemed to kind of fall apart around him makes it does make it the most impressive of his four major wins Ryan from gov news. That is our guest here on the progressive insurance. Outline, of course brought to you by progressives home insurance. Get your quote at progressive dot com today. You know, you said it with what he was able to do on Thursday in Tigers group with a course, record sixty three to me that. That much more impressive, given the fact that tiger had all the hype coming in winning his first major in eleven years. Of course, it was the masters and for kept going to go out there and just do what he did on Thursday. To me that really set the tone for the whole weekend, just Hal impressive. When you think of a the performance but be doing it. In Tigers group, the first few days, does that really stand out to you? Yeah. I mean, he'd be tiger. Woods by seventeen shots over two rounds. You don't usually do that to the masters champion. I don't care who you are. And you certainly don't typically do that to tiger. Woods in his career. I realized hikers a forty three year old guy hadn't played competitive golf in a month and is not a guy twenty anymore, but still, it's a pretty big deal considering the story of the last two majors played with tiger versus Brooks Casca, and they were one. What each and this one wasn't even all that close. So I think he stepped through to kind of intimidate tiger. And that's not something anyone to really try in recent memory Brooks kept on Thursday, when they were getting ready to warm up to play together. That's right up right next to him started showing him where he could do. He was up against all day with tiger was going to see all day. And I think that probably bother tiger a little bit. I mean, tiger's master kind of subtle mind games. Well, turn it up. Brooks Catholic is too. He's not afraid to show you, who he is. And what he can do. And then he kind of has these little subtle gamesmanship things when you get shot the stray that walk in front of you and point the opposite direction of where it's going. So everyone knows including you that you hit a bad shot. He'll he'll help you out. They'll find the ball with Harold Varna the third early on Sunday. Oh, buddy. I'll help you find that one. Even though I know you're dead, and he just kind of has these little things that just get under your skin just enough to make you wonder, and then on top of it, he hit you over the head with a with a steel chair to say, I am stronger than you, I better faster, and everything than you, and you can't stop me and, and both things combined together they can really tough to play against. He's just twenty nine years old. So how many more majors, do you think he's capable of winning? I mean, the fact that he has four in the last two years, four and his last eight starts is absolutely incredible. But this wasn't something that was a young female that we knew was going to be great. It's all happened. So quickly where do we go from here with Kapka just how dominant Kindy continued to be moving forward? That's such a good question. I think that's going to be the rolling question. Moving forward is how long does this keep up? I mean, tiger had a stretch of majors where he wants seven of eleven and that pretty much defined half of his major career and the others, he got here and there one year to their one ear. So if you're kept, and you feel like you can still go on a run like this. Get maybe two more out of the next couple of years, and then start thinking about okay, how do I of get the ten because that's what he said of the start of the week was, I if I could get the ten I think that's what I can accomplish. And maybe he can do better than that. But still from here that six major championships. I mean, that's, that's basically the career Arnold Palmer from ear to get the ten majors. That's a, that's a big ask. But the way he's playing golf right now. It's not like his swing speeds going to get any slower anytime soon. He's got another decade or so before that really starts to fade. He's going to stay in good shape. I, I think the same thing applies to Brooks that apply to tiger. And that the only kind of things they're going to ruin. In his dominance are kind of lack of focus, they get bad marriage or injury. And unless any of those things happen to him. I can't see a reason why he can't continue to play golf this way because he focuses so much on these four tournaments year, almost to the point that he doesn't care about regular PJ toward events other than that he doesn't find them as easy to win majors. I think that actually helps him in trying to win more of these, you've got down to a science, none of his peers under forty have any myth of a clue of how to we majors. He does. I think that makes them even more dangerous moving forward. Ryan Ballengee our gas progressive insurance. How why Jake asthma with you here on Espy nation radio. Ryan, of course, with golf news net, and you could follow golf news, net, on Twitter at golf news net. You know, you of course mentioned, Tiger Woods and tiger got a front row seat to Brooks, those first two days, all the expectations and the hype with tiger coming into this championship after he won the master's, and rightfully so. But he's forty three. Years old. The ends up missing the cut when you look at a missing the cut was just a bad week Ryan. Or do you think there's something more with Tigers performance in those two days at that pace black? I don't read a whole lot into the performance to be truthful. I think he just didn't prepare the right way. I mean, he'd probably didn't expect to win the masters. Let's be realistic, but he won the master's and went to a two or three weeks celebration as he should. I'm not saying he shouldn't have done that. But he had to get ready for a major in a month. And instead of playing the Wells Fargo championship, which is typical tuneup for him in may. Although it used to be for the players it would've been a good one for the PGA championship beat him play said he wasn't mentally prepared to play golf, but you still need to play competitively, at some point between major, don't just go major to major. And so, I think Raymond threw off his rhythm, and then he shows up to best page. He plays a practice round on Monday nine holes, which is fine. But then he doesn't see the golf course again, Tuesday or Wednesday. So he doesn't have an idea of how soft or -firmative he hasn't really getting that competitive juices, flowing of how tight the golf course is playing. I think that all worked against him. And then, of course, books kept it shows up in bludgeons them on the first hole, and he never recovered from that. So I think a whole lot of things to came together, the kind of put tiger by the ball and most of it, he did to himself, so we all right? We get ready for the US open. He's gonna play memorial for sure. Almost thirty he's going to do that. That'll be his tuneup, and then we'll see where he is. And obviously, he's got a lot of good vibes at Pebble Beach, just as he did winning the two thousand two US open at Bethpage but his virtuoso performances is it pebble where he won by fifteen nineteen years ago that that's nineteen years ago? So the question is can he play golf course anywhere near like he did in two thousand or even like you did in twenty ten when he basically was a broken man, after his divorce in public, shaming and stuff and still finished fourth in the US open. So I think he's gotta feel pretty good about those two finishes going into pebble, and I feel fairly confident that he can get it together by them. Ryan before I let you go just looking back on the week at Bethpage. Back and I said this at the top of my native long islander I was there covering it all week long. So it was awesome ably backed. What do you think the reception in the golf community was from, from the course and the whole week as a whole at Bethpage Long Island? I mean, I think there's some limited reaction from the fuddy-duddy who don't get upset about guys yelling and screaming and having actually having fun at all. Every year about TPC Scottsdale and the Phoenix Open. All is it bad for all that? People are having fun. No, it's not that at all. It's great that people get to see major championship golf on a public course that they can play for under two hundred dollars that even if you're an out of state residents. That's incredible stuff and kudos to the PJ of America for picking back up bringing a major back there and doing it again, next year they're going to go the opposite coast and play TPC Harding park. Another public access. Course in San Francisco, give people a chance to see a major on, of course that they could play and they'll eat enough, every time he is Ryan balancing, he's the owner of golf news net.
