"And then the main car for Pirelli testing, that was split between Sergio Pérez in the morning and sapling the afternoon. Yeah, they both got well over a race distance a piece of Verstappen. He finished day 5th fastest 6th tenth of a second off the top time. And yeah, that's his final hurrah with the rebel RB 18. Yeah, that's it now for him, so he's had a final outing with the car that's won him so much success this year. And one of the things that anything in his contract that we haven't heard about yet where he gets one of the chassis, I know that Jenson Button had to wait a while to get one of his brawn GP chassis in his collection, but I wouldn't be surprised when you get to his kind of slightest if you can kind of wangle those sort of things into contract negotiations because that would be very nice for the Verstappen family collection, although he's got a pretty nice collection of cars already. I read an article about max's personal collection and they profiled his jet as well. Which I'm sure he's on already. Back home. Let's talk a little bit about Ferrari, which as we've said is the headline of today. It is the one, two, three, which is something you maybe get at Le Mans or in a sports car race, but never in Formula One, until now. And yeah, that's afforded because they split the Pirelli tire car between Charles Leclerc in the morning and Carlos Sainz in the afternoon. Leclerc very early on set a very quick time and was pretty much top all the way through until science center took over for the afternoon session and went, yeah, a tenth quicker. So that gave science P one leclerc P two and then Robert Schwartzman was their driver in the second car, the young driver car. He's raced in formula two for a few years being their test driver this year. A real brilliant talent, one of the drivers that I most think is deserving obviously in Formula One who doesn't have a seat in F one, but yeah, he was behind the wheel of the young driver car. He was P three at one point slipped down a little bit as more times came in, but then in the final hour I went for a final run and that got him third place and meant that I could have that wonderful headline of a Ferrari one two three. And I saw George Russell today on his socials sending out pictures of him and his partner just standing on the pit wall. Watching things go by, it looked obviously it was very quiet in the background of the pictures. It just looked more relaxed. Way more relaxed. Even than pre season testing where there's an air of tension around that. It looked like people had guests there and partners and there was just no intensity today, which I think is nice if you can involve someone like that. So I saw him doing that. I didn't see too much from Lewis today who was driving for Mercedes. Yeah, both of them were, yeah, they, as you say, it is definitely much more relaxed vibe, I think, for the testing, but yeah, we had Russell Hamilton splitting running in the Mercedes as well. George in the morning, then Lewis in the afternoon. And yeah, they basically just got lots and lots of laps in Hamilton 17. Russell 23rd, so clearly not going for any kind of all out lap time or anything. And then probably one of the more interesting and let's say left field drivers out there today for Mercedes was Frederick festi, who not a name that is often coming up on this podcast, but he's in formula two. He had his rookie year I believe in F two this year and I think he's been confirmed for next season with prima. So one of the top top teams. And yeah, he's been on Mercedes junior books for about two or three years now, so he was out there getting his first ever test in a Formula One car. He did more than two race distances, so that's a lot for your first go, but fair play to him. Gwen lagrue, who's sort of the junior guru, let's say for Mercedes, he's overseen the rise of George Russell and espanol. He was on site today watching on very closely is Frederick was doing his first go. So yeah, a nice have a new name and another Dane as well out there along with Kevin Magnussen wasn't out there today. So yes, Frederick russi flying the flag solo for Denmark. We're going to take a quick break and when we come back, we will get into the teams who have got some new drivers, drivers changing seats and we'll find out why they were driving unbranded cars with unbranded race suits. That's on the way, stick around. I welcome back to the podcast we're talking to Luke Smith who is in Abu Dhabi right now having watched the Pirelli tyre test today for us here's a final hurrah of the 2022 season. All right, let's get into team France because Alpine beating McLaren to fourth and we're doing this in championship. Order, we start to get into teams that have got some different drivers and it was all very grown-up and reasonable and people were released from contracts to go and drive for their new teams. How did it go for Alpine today? Yeah, as you say, Pierre gasly making his debut for Alpine and team France as he rightly call it alongside espanol con for a French manufacturer. And yeah, gasly had a full day in the Alpine to give him a chance to sort of get used to the team and how they're working and the day fourth fastest putting a quick lap towards the end so he was quite happy with that. And yeah, he said, I can see why this team finished fourth in the constructors, like you could really tell. I think he sees a big step forward from where he was at auf towery. And he said that the potentially seen is even greater than what he was expecting. So that's really, really cool. And he said that everyone has been really nice so far and he's adjusted well and yeah, there was a good vibe coming from Pierre when we spoke to him after the session. So yeah, I think he's very happy with that a 130 laps. And across the garage was Jack doohan, who is looking for a role, I think, without being a potentially as their reserve driver maybe. And he raced in formula two this year he had a really good rookie season. More F one running Wehrmacht some FP ones earlier this year and some private testing. He ended up 11th fastest today. "To see. The tire choice, that obviously was so decisive in this, it seemed like it really seemed like Versace was struggling with tyre where something that we've not really seen the Red Bull be a main weakness on so far this year. He said afterwards that he felt like he was eating the tyres alive. Despite starting on the mediums, a Christian Horner explained on Sky Sports saying that the plan was basically start on the mediums, survive the first sort of 12, 14 apps, and then should be okay. It was like 15 when Russell actually got him, so the soft definitely hung on a little bit longer. Mercedes, they said that their data showed that the medium was not a very good tyre to be on from what they saw in practice. But obviously Red Bull does have an advantage. She's now saving a set of softs as they go into Sunday's race. Matt, you spoke with the top three, so including George Russell Lewis Hamilton after the sprint race. What did they say about that split entire and what did you make of it? Do you think Red Bull simply got it wrong today going for the medium with Verstappen? In hindsight, of course I did, but you know, give Red Bull strategists their Jews considering how brilliant they've got it a lot of the season. Both Mercedes drivers came out in a press conference. This was not a clear cut choice. This isn't like hungry when Ferrari put on the hard tyres and everyone, everyone could go what on earth are you doing? It's not even like Mexico where it surely surely to everyone else. It was thought Mercedes were playing it way too safe by not splitting their strategies. This was not that sort of clear cut decision I think it was a lot more a little more 50 50. However, in terms of to bring in sort of my personal opinions that are quoting the drivers. Tonight, once you've done this podcast, I'll go and write this feature about what have we learned from a sprint race broken down some of the numbers from epi two in particular. And I think the performance between soft and mediums this weekend has already been marginal to that say, I don't think the medium's pace is the usual sort of 6 tenths off the soft as it is. But also the soft song wearing that much more than the medium. So it's a quite a close title. So the downside obviously of Red Bulls called start a medium is that Verstappen has been struggling with understeer all weekend, which he's never happy with that. That's why the narrative around Monaco and Azerbaijan was that he was being sort of not dominating press like he should because he was struggling with understeer. So when those problems emerged a weekend over the weekend, I think the logical point then is to put this up on the sauce so he has the front end bite and can manage the oversteer. So that's one point, but I would also take the cut up to argument, having a looking at the average lap times from the use of all the drivers or the top 6, so you Mercedes Ferrari and Red Bulls were running in free practice too. Verstappen sort of middling on those the Mercedes were quicker, Perez was much, much quicker on used mediums if they run in comparative fuel loads and all of that. So I suppose if you're looking at that and you're thinking, okay, we think we can get Magnussen done pretty quickly, but we know we've got at least one fry and one Mercedes. It brought on the same compound, perhaps this is part of their thought process we don't know that stage. Perhaps we should do something different or anticipate being on a medium tyre. So instead of knowing where the fourth quickest car at this point, we might actually do something different and then obviously you have the factors like you hope the tire comes to Red Bull that the others do suffer from degradation, but it proved to be the wrong call ultimately. Definitely and I think tomorrow will obviously be the proof in the pudding George Russell was very quick to say afterwards that yeah, it's the big point tomorrow. That's what we want and he'll be a yeah, hoping to sort of remove that mis niner about being an F one race winner and make it legit with victory tomorrow. But you mentioned sort of looking at the numbers and everything like that. Realistically, can Mercedes win tomorrow's Brazilian Grand Prix? Yes, I'm going to say yes because I think if I throw some rough numbers at you. So if we get the hard tyres used on those Verstappen is the fourth quickest driver, Hamilton's second Russell started prez is actually comfortably quickest again that which would support that narrative if the car is understeering this weekend. He's happier with that. And the difference between the Merckx is a tenth and a half separating the teammates and Hamilton's favor and it's another three tenths back to Verstappen. And this is very much my rounding and my number. So take that with a huge pinch of salt. As for the sauce, again, press leading away Russell Hamilton then Verstappen. And it's sort of about three tenths covering covering those four drivers. So it is, of course, marginal. But the Mercedes case is strong. It's just how they operate because they've been talking already about what we need to work together. We know that we're not the favorites going into this race. So part of that is they're playing down their chances and talking at Red Bull. But we speak to driver so quickly after the sprint race at they've obviously processed a sprint sprint result, but they haven't gone and had their engineering debrief. And that might be the concerted right. Let's work together so we can secure the team result. And that's great. And Russell on paper should have secured the preferential treatment by starting higher in a grid four tomorrow, but that this comes hot on the heels of Mexico as this really nice subplot, whereas Hamilton, where Hamilton was not staying behind his teammate, he was super aggressive fritos, was it turns one, two, and three in Mexico to make sure he got track position, so he would be on the optimal strategy to chase after Red Bull. So obviously they're being team players, the brackley factories had a pretty rough time of it in 2022 by comparison to their previous year. So they want to get the best result possible for the team. But if you're going to break Mercedes Dutch, will we see anything tomorrow if there's a slightly so getaway, for instance, for Russell and it's a case of Verstappen's there. So Hamilton has to get by and whether if they have therefore split strategies, whether they're sort of their plan for the next 50 lapses immediately gone out the window because there's been that change of order. So I think that'll be a horrible, horrible sort of motor sport parlance or whatever or across media, but it really will be fascinating to see Luke. It will be very an overused most for cliche, but I shall let you off with that. It will be though. I think that for Mercedes as well. You look at how far the team has come this year, obviously it went from the early part of the season, struggling so much with the poor person looking miles off the pace that it wouldn't stand a chance of winning a race this season. And then we had the Barcelona update and it thought, okay, we've cured it and then they find out that actually the porpoise isn't the big issue with Carl along. It's something far deeper, far more baked in to the DNA of the car, but we know he's obviously going to change for next year.

"Let's go to second and the vibe for second was very close. I'll tell you it's between obviously, in fact the fight for second to fourth is between the Ferrari and Mercedes drivers just to make that clear. The one who wins this one though is Charles Leclerc. His second on 6.8 only 0.5. I love the two decimal places ahead of George Russell on 6.75. So George Russell, that means he's beaten his teammate Lewis Hamilton. And obviously Charlotte clear has been color science. I don't know, what are you ranking rob? Yeah, this is real. It's about right. So if we look at some Mercedes, sorry, if we look at our sorry, did we reveal George Russell? Yes, we revealed George Russell. Okay, good. Well, if we reveal both. So in the Mercedes and Ferrari battle, so they had a George, but also George only just ahead of Lewis. Of which I think it's one or the other. But I reckon 6.5 for Lewis is about rice. Obviously he's 6th in the title fight. In terms of this top 6 between Red Bull Mercedes and Ferrari in that championship battle, he's lost. In that fight, he's ten points behind. Carlos Sainz. So correct. And for him to be fourth, I think is a little bit generous. And maybe to be that close to George Russell, equally generous. Now it's, what's the gap? Oh, it certainly 12 point championship gap between them, but in terms of podium results and things like that. George is absolutely there. So more of the stories, everybody voted too low. I think so. I'm shocked. I was actually shocked when he was together at how. Average. I don't remember like a bad average. I mean, everyone's sort of averaged this scores. And we've ended up at a pretty middle of the road result. In the middle. We're going to have to refund some money back to look at this. You need to lift everybody on Discord, but I think the gap between Georgian and lowest is too close. To be honest, I would probably rank Lewis probably put him just above. To be honest, I put him in in 6 place in that ranking and later, I'd leave George there. But yeah, we need to skew the scores because he's, I wouldn't say he's above leclerc, either. So isn't the right spot. Just think his number's wrong. So yeah, so stop the count. Yes, it's the bell curve. That's what bell curved all of this it all looks a little bit closer than maybe it's meant to be, but it's the way it's why dividing system works. Yeah, I don't know. I definitely, I'm fairly comfortable with this order, I think. I'm fairly comfortable with leclerc Russell Hamilton and science. I don't know why it's taught. Todd isn't it? Because on the other hand, Charles Leclerc has made two relatively costly mistakes. Crashing out of the lead in France. Okay, one, he was in the lead and he had Paul. So that's good. But then, you know, to throw it away on your own. Maybe not, whereas then like if we go by the air count, did Jordan has George Russell made very many mistakes. And I think judging by the fact he's yet to finish lower than 5th, you know, except it's to that retirement, but these infinity, I guess. You could argue that he's been in his machinery and got that pole position, better than better than leclerc has, but then on the other. And I feel very conflicted. I will say Hamilton belongs behind Russell only because of that drive in imola. Or he didn't even fish in the points and Russell finished on the streets. Yeah, he kind of gave up a little beard and I know that he's been doing a lot more experimenting with the car, which is why I sort of don't give much credit to the Saudi Arabian tenth, like that was because he was experimenting, and that's what the tank made it to do. Ah, I saw you, I don't know. I'm almost willing to say I would put George Russell ahead of Charles Leclerc at the moment. Just. Robert, what do you think? You know the answer is here. I wrote them. I don't. But I'm going to make it an executive decision. Oh, okay. I'm going to say that this is a live letter. We've got here. So I think George Russell eclipses leclerc. I think you've sold me. The lack of errors. And despite the fact he hasn't got a race win, obviously just the one pole position to his name and we're all waiting for the jaw cross will win and we're all prepared as to how painful will be on Sky Sports F one. As soon as the chicken flag drops. It will be it's correct because if we look at the lack of errors from George, you're right, you're right, you're absolutely right. So my top three at the moment would definitely be Verstappen Russell leclerc. But there's a pain for me for the people's airplane candidate in the closer, drop them to the final place on the roster of this podium, but I think it's about right, if I'm perfectly honest. I would be satisfied with that live ladder. I'm prepared to put leclerc ahead of Hamilton. Very close though, just because occasionally, as much as I think Hamilton's really turned it on in the last two months. And you can say he's got 5 podiums in a row now, but aside from the results, you know, I think after Spain, he suddenly got a sniff that there was something really to fight for this year and he's improved a lot. Because even at the start of Spain and he was talking about how let's retire the cards, the engine, then it was email I was a bit off the pace and I

"Delivered on Saturday in Budapest, as he topped dramatic qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Russell edged out Ferrari's Carlos sites by just 44 thousandths of a second with his final effort in qualifying, marking his maiden pole position in Formula One and a sign of Mercedes revival. It was a more difficult day for Russell's Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who could only muster 7th on the grid due to a DRS issue, while it was even worse for Max Verstappen, the championship leader as a power unit problem resigned him to tenth place on the grid for tomorrow's race. Recapping all of today's action at the Hungarian, I'm joined by auto sport F one editor Matthew, whose voice is now fully working again after being a little croaky earlier this week, not COVID, of course, but George Russell made light of it in Thursday's press conference, and has now got a pole position. What a surprise. On both counts. Absolutely. It's a miraculous recovery. No, my voice, not the Mercedes down. Yeah, he accused me of having been out on a town. Of course, rejected those. And I can actually give you validation on this. You said that a little longer than I did on Wednesday night, but not that much longer, so well behaved and definitely just a Pepsi Cola was all you drank. Absolutely, that was fine. And I shouldn't have built it out. Those Tom Jones numbers. No one wants this. But it's back now and we're ready to podcast. Anyway, George Russell, pole position. What a surprise. What a lap as well from him at the end of qualifying. It came out of nowhere. We were in the media pen talking to the drivers when it happened and was like, oh, this is quite something. What did you make of it? And how shocked were you? There was a little bit of him having the door left open for him by a couple of other things that will come on to the Red Bull problems and Ferrari, but it was a spectacular lap. And something that just hasn't been on the cards or weekends. With Mercedes, it's all been about the race paces. We've done analysis on what Lewis Hamilton could offer in boss island, but particularly over the last three races, sale was Austria and last time out at Paul Ricard. It was really sort of stepping up and obviously commenting that double podium. And then yesterday and we'll come on to the long run stuff later on in the podcast they were nowhere completely drive service to say Russell Russell's comments, you know, it's a disastrous day. He said it's the worst the car has ever felt on high if you're running and they turned it upside down and I think that's why it's driving an upside down Mercedes because the pace came out of nowhere so a brilliant lap good story and I know this sounds bizarre after the last 8 years Mercedes dominance, but we're overdue an upset this season. It's just been, you know, Red Bull and Ferrari and it seems like Mercedes might be the one to give us an upset. One of our media colleagues said in the driver pen after Q one, when Russell Hamilton with P one and P two, he said, oh, Mercedes one two. That's just what we could do with today. Again, not a sentence you ever thought you would utter given the past 8 years of dominance, but also something that actually might have been possible. Lewis Hamilton, he had that DRS issue in Q three that really hindered him, left him 7th on the grid for tomorrow's race, and he said that he thought a one two would have been possible today, former Mercedes. After all the struggles this year, is it just a sign of the revival the Mercedes Benz they finally unlocked a little bit more out of this car? It's difficult to say exactly. I think generally there has been an upward trend. And it's interesting that they should get it so wrong on Friday and the race just before a summer break when there needs to be these decisions about validating car concepts and what they do next year. But to temper the optimism, I suppose, is the fact that Russell has come out and said, I would be so shocked if we see the usual trend of Mercedes over the last three races, which is we get better on a Sunday. He's saying it will be the inverse this time around and that's even at a narrow hungaro wing where overtaking is generally a bit more harder you saying, you know, we're in for a long afternoon. So potentially celebrate now while you can, it might be a case of an afternoon with his mirrors full of red, red tamari, but you know, good lap three personal best sectors, which sort of that sort of tells you what you need to know about the battle for power is that he did three green sectors. He wasn't purple in any of them, and that's because, you know, signs who will come on to you. He made a mistake and seated pearl, but a nice story. One little quite want to talk about from a press conference. She says, it doesn't matter what happens now, my career. Second place at spa last year in a Williams and this first poll in the context of all the struggles Mercedes asset I'll never be happy about one single app that I am today and I was at Belgium last year. Bold claim indeed from George Russell, but yes, mister mister Saturday, I guess a moniker that you may be lost a little bit this year, but he has regained it a little bit today. Let's get on to the fries. You mentioned science there and just before we recorded this podcast, you went and looked at sciences lapping Q three, only 44 thousandths of a second between them at the end of the session there. Where did science lose poll today? Turn 5. So it's that it's that uphill right hander where we've seen actually lots of track limit violations and that will be a topic later on. It's a really well of this sort of like throwing forward skill Mac here. Very impressive. Thank you so much. Absolutely. But what he does is he has a rear end snap and in the time it takes him to correct it. It doesn't matter that it's sector one's purple and again, someone will come on to.

"And that the tyre delta they gained plus the DRS advantage, that would have been enough to beat Verstappen. But ultimately ultimately it wasn't quite in the end. For any I was a little plugged now for any of our audience who enjoy our other contents, such as the videos that we put out on our excellent YouTube channel, where you got our product back down from Montreal where we analyzed that science strategy and what Ferrari could have potentially dance to that will be online at some point on Monday. Let's talk about Lewis Hamilton this weekend. In fact, let's talk about both Mercedes with Hamilton and Russell because Hamilton chose to pit under the first VSC caused by Perez, lap 9, and then they kept rossell out. He chose to fit under the second one caused by Mick Schumacher's retirement. And then they came home as well with a really decent points haul for Mercedes. Toto Wolff still talking about, we need a rules change here, or we need something. We know the FIA were taking measurements this weekend, other team bosses saying, oh, you know, we're particularly Christian Horner. Really worried about Mercedes pace going into Silverstone, they're going to be really, really quick. What's your reading of Mercedes? Is this a real fixed true pace that we're seeing? Or is it circuit specific? What do you think? It feels like a bit of a set forward maybe and so he spoke, I believe in our German to our German colleagues and in that media session. And he said that the issue isn't so much support for saying that. It's the bouncing because there are two very different very different phenomenons, but they are different. I think it was definitely a step forward this weekend. I think that they looked firmly as the third fastest team. And I think that both Russell Hamilton drove drove excellent weekends Russell obviously went for that gamble and qualifying which was very exciting to see even if it didn't quite come off. And for Lewis, yeah, he was bouncing all weekend, which was going on track. But physically out of the car, he was in a very good mood, which is really, really good to see. So yeah, I think they can definitely be encouraged by this. And now we're going back to normal circuits and inverted comments. It's a chance for them to get sort of a bit of a better understanding of the car. We saw in Barcelona how much better they were. Christine Horner, we spoke to him after the race and he said, yeah, they're going to be a factor probably in Silverstone and in the import card. And I don't think it's maybe quite that much of a step that there will be really in the lead fight, but it definitely looks like they're more in the ballpark now. So I think yes, come away with third and fourth. I think that's a great result for the team. 12 months ago, you'd have said, no, that's very poor by Mercedes standards. But given where they are right now, I think they can be really pleased with what they've done this weekend. So yeah, I wouldn't quite say they've turned a corner just yet, but they're getting there. So it's like another little step forward. Jess, we're all going to be a Silverstone in a couple of weeks time. And George Russell, of course, going to be a really big fan, Paul. Now, with the big team, Lewis Hamilton always is Lando Norris, of course, will be as well. A few weeks ago, you wouldn't think that Mercedes and Red Bull could possibly be on the same piece of tarmac at the same time given what's happened before at Silverstone between max and Lois. But their pace is looking better. Are you feeling optimistic about how Mercedes might run at Silverstone because there's going to be a lot of merch on display, a lot of fans in the stand. They want to see a really great Mercedes display. You fill in as positive about them. You want to be at slightly optimistic. Obviously, this is the kind of second race really where as we've been touching on anyway, George has been putting in absolutely phenomenally consistent results given, given what we know about the Mercedes struggles, but actually I asked, I asked Lewis in the press conference today about because what he has been making it very clear and known to us media types is that he has been running really experimental setups. And that's kind of partly to do with the comments that he came out of free practice when he said it was the worst car I'd ever driven because they'd gone down and avenue of it being extremely experimental and it clearly hadn't worked, so they took it all off and that's why we've had a night and day scenario in terms of Lewis looking actually really strong and he didn't finish that far off the top too, which I know again given safety cars and bunching and we kind of lose some of those kind of guests real pace gaps but he was keeping on with them. And what he said I asked him are we going to continue to see you being the team Guinea pig. And he laughed and he said maybe George should be the Guinea pig for the second half of the season. Given that he's given a lot including his back to the setups that Mercedes have been trying to run to get to the bottom of their issues. But he seems like AI asked it was there at the end of the tunnel and you see he didn't quite say yes, but he said that Mercedes was going to be far more cautious with the kind of setups that they're going to be using early stages in the weekend. So that would suggest that they're narrowing in on what is actually going to work. But as you say, Silverstone and Montreal are two very different circuits. So it's going to be, it's going to be the upgrades that they are that Red Bull are running, running, scared of, which I do think is quite a bit of pot stirring, I think, they're from Christian. But yeah, if they nail those and they're competitive, then it'd be great to see both Mercedes up there and battling, because again, if Red Bull are going to be slowed down and we're going to have a title fight that lasts a little bit longer than halfway through the season, then we need them in there when Ferrari is falling or failing or suffering with reliability issues that there's another team to keep them honest because right now they don't really have much of an answer..

"Narrative. Why bought us for another year. Like asha this year. Like i think. I think he's i. He's writing his own check out of here with a feeling dread though is too early no i well i do think it is now tough. Because it's like the thing about being pastime. Is that at this point. Everyone will expect russell to wherever he goes to show immediately kick ass and like if he has a ricardo learning curve. People be talking about him as if he's the next like stoffel van dory right where. It's like what happened to all that promise. It's a worse scenario. Like they are shit or get off the pop sorry much more vulgar version of your was issue cut vast or fisher base ban. The but the other thing. I think you have to worry a little bit about is What he shows up in swamps hamilton. It's not beyond possibility like remember how weird the vibe gotten out. Alonzo's every different dude than hamilton was when he was coming like they're both very different personalities but like it can be super weird when like the new guy shows up and completely takes over as the lead driver in terms of results Saying this is what happened. When hamilton came into the sport and was alonzo's teammate. It wasn't that cut and dried. But he was brought in as a like developing talent and then he quickly started beating the hell out of lonzo and it turned into kind of a war within the team And admittedly very different vibe around the team very different personalities but yeah. I think it's a weird thing where like russell might be. Poised to grow at a faster rate than like mercedes would really be comfortable with with managing during the closing stages of hamilton square. Yeah i'd say if if russell is signed for mercedes for twenty twenty two. I will be pleasantly surprised. Mike obviously is the isn't at this stage. Okay how long that'll signed for. I think it hasn't been said. But i i. I think it's only. It has not been confirmed that it was a multi year only seat recommended. See them being like yeah seven fine but like that's not a bad call. We're either on. Skiff won the i don think lance want lawrence wants lance getting compared to russell every week the two the two young bucks. He'll he'll be at least battle as a as an elder statesman of the sport. If you can. And that's exactly. Yeah so i mean look like right. Now wada's fifth in the championship. I mean after not that many races. What seven ace nine. I think actually like sock. Rice is not easy. He's writing this ticket out of a team. I think at the moment so mercedes could be looking at the constructors standings going like We're in second three. That sure would be nice if we had like russell up here getting us points because like peres. You're like okay right but if one but a voter does cars that go. Norris's above him like writing to me. I think the next not to be melodramatic about it. But i really do think all eyes are gonna like russell hamilton. Lewis's home race. If batas doesn't if has a bad weekend at silverstone. I think he's going to have a real difficult time of pulled us pull the season in time for when those decisions are made of they. Just do a flip. Whatever it's midseason. But i mean like at the end of the season val terry going home to williams Continuing the work started there like it turns into a complete Like rotation of totally. See that i can see him. Just not getting a seat. I don't i like williams. I can see being desperate enough to do it like i don't think he's had the results like he. I don't think he threatened in in a way that is relevant. And i don't think he has the mentality either. I like him. I know drew. You definitely a big fan of him in his pre mercedes days plus. I wouldn't be surprised if he this is too much young talent and too much prospects for people to be paying for that ticket. You know might be bit extreme. But i i you know. I think this is like his most critical season. By far well speaking of silverstone and changing things. We are going to see something very different this weekend. Sprint qualifying. we've talked about it. A little bit in the past They are trialing this at three races this year. F one hasn't confirmed the other races but the rumors are that it's going to be italy and brazil and this is a it's a it's a just a different style of qualifying than we are used to. So instead of the great being determined by qualifying this weekend it will be determined by how everyone finishes in the sprint qualifying session which is in effect short race. It will be a standing start. No pitstops in about a third of the full race distance so expected to take like thirty to forty five minutes The grid for the sprint. Qualifying is set by a regular qualifying session so q. On q two q three as usual with the one difference being that everyone has to use soft tyres for each session. So instead of those three practice sessions than qualifying the race. We're gonna have on friday one. Practice one qualifying. Saturday is another practice and then the sprint qualifying which again the grid for which is set by the first qualifying session and finally the full race on sunday. pole position. Interestingly is officially awarded to the winner of sprint qualifying and the top three in sprint qualifying. Get points three to one for first second and third pole position says is not the entire grits. It is but okay the the actual classification for pole position does not come from q. Three it comes from the end of sprint qualifying right. So that the president year right. Are they doing normal three qualifying. Yeah qualification on friday. Okay cool. Yeah so the big question here is. Why are they doing this. And it's basically just to get more eyeballs right now. There is not much reason to watch f one on friday. Since it's just two practice sessions if you put qualifying there and you have something exciting on both saturday and sunday. The thinking goes that brings viewers to three days instead of just to It it's worth pointing out that. This does not just mean tv viewers but also might mean more people buying tickets for friday and saturday at the tracks themselves rather than just like a sunday ticket..
