"Calls up if Indiana, Indiana, let's say India loses their minds and they say, Malcolm Brogdon and buddy healed for Russell weissberg, we don't need any picks straight up. Let's just get this thing done. The Lakers can't do it. They are not allowed to trade Russell Westbrook until he officially picks up that option. Because otherwise, he is not under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. That player option is still sitting out there. He does not have to decide whether or not he is picking up that player option officially until the end of June. Got until the end of the month. So if you're Russell Westbrook and you're looking at this situation and you say, man, Lakers are probably going to trade me. You're going to hold off as long as you can, signing that option. Why? Because if you are going to be traded, you want to have any kind of say in where you ultimately wind up. Let's say Russell weisberg doesn't want to be an Indiana pacer. The pacers call up rob palinka and they say, Brogdon, buddy, for Russ, let's get it done. The Lakers call up Ross and they say, hey, the pacers, they're ready. They want to do this deal. Let's go. Just go ahead and sign right there. Let's go. What if for us doesn't want to be a pacer? He'll just say, well, I don't want to be a pacer. So I'm not going to sign that, which means you can't trade me. He would then make it known that he doesn't want to be a pacer. He would do what he could to try to scare them off. And he would wait until either a team pops up that wants to trade for him that he wants to go to or until he hits that deadline and he absolutely has to. He's not going to give up that control until the moment he has to. Which means if you're Russ and say, again, hypothetical, let's say you don't want to be a pacer and that pacers deal is out there. If you're Russ, you're hoping that you can scare them away. Or that between now and the end of June, which a lot of things can happen then, the pacers decide to go into different directions. They find a different fit. They move on,.

"Giving up wide open threes is a recipe for disaster. The bucks are so good everywhere else, and part of that is Yanni as part of that is the rest of the team buying in, though. That it works for them, or has worked. Giving up as many threes as the bucks do in general, it can be a problem. It can be a big, big problem, particularly in today's NBA. My belief is that he would adjust to the team. So here's the thing with some sports, some sports like strictly if you look at college football, right? It's all the coach and the coaches system and the players have to fit into that. The NBA is the exact opposite. The NBA, it's on the coach to adjust to the personnel, right? Mike D'antoni is always going to want to play fast. He's always going to want to score, score the basketball, not going to focus a lot on the defensive end. Every coach has their own coaching philosophy, their own coaching style. But it's also expected that the coach will adjust things to fit the players that are on their team. And so we saw that with Frank Vogel, where what we've heard is that a big part of the reason why Frank Vogel was dismissed is because he wasn't able to adjust and adapt and make Russell Westbrook fit. Now maybe that's an impossible task, but that was looked upon negatively by the Lakers. His inability to get Russell Westbrook to fit. It was on Frank Vogel to adjust to adapt to be flexible. And so in my mind, darvin ham, if he came to the Lakers and he saw the personnel and said this defensive scheme isn't going to work, we need to tweak it in this way and this way and this way, that's just normal for NBA head coaches. I don't look at any head coach necessarily with, again, might be in D'antoni being perhaps the exception because he's so locked into his offensive philosophy, but most NBA head coaches understand that if they're going to stay as a head coach in the NBA, they have to be adaptable. They have to. They have to be adaptable. It's like teaching junior high. If you are not adaptable, you are going to sink. In the NBA, you have to be adaptable to your team. If you're going to be a head coach, look how many years this furs were seen as a defensive team. They slow it down, plates off defense. That's their MO. That's how they play. And then over time, they shifted and they became a fast paced, offensive team. They still kept that kind of persona of being this boring team that just likes to play a lot of defense, even when their identity to actually shifted towards being one that was very offensive friendly. We saw that ship. Again, all under one coach, all under Greg Popovich..

"Well, they just hear the part that doesn't connect with what they already think about him and then that's where I get messages coming in. So it's interesting, but I wanted to make sure that I put out there how I approach this and I think it's a little bit different than modern media. If you haven't guessed, I'm not into hot takes or things like that. Yeah, so that's my long witted soap soap box version of this is my general approach to things and that's why you'll always hear me. Say, these are the pros, these are the cons, this is what we're looking at with this situation because I do believe there's two sides to every story and I want to make sure that I cover all of that. Well, just a couple of things to add on that. One, you've already made a bunch of people angry, so don't check your DMs today. But all seriousness, I think that's how you had to look at sports in general and as look at things from both sides. Again, yeah, like the Russell Westbrook thing, right? Yes. Russ had been bad, but yes, you have to look at that and say, yeah, he's been bad to be in one. But he's at all these things changing around him. How hard is it that he's getting booed in his own city and stuff like that or just sports in general like a trade, okay? Yeah, they did that, but what can be a con of that, for example, that's not even being a pess I should look at it from all sides of it. And that's just how the world is in general and then lastly going all the way back to the prank Vogue thing you mentioned earlier and why he kind of deflects blame from his players. You know, there's the current situation on the east coast that kind of started from a coach blaming his player after a loss. So that's kind of why you don't that's why frankl who doesn't take that style of approach 'cause if that was the case, Russell Westbrook will probably be gone by now. That's definitely a good point. I just think if and there's plenty of debate shows that are out there and debate has merit. I just think if you're going to, if you're going to dig in on one side, what you wind up doing is completely dismissing anything that doesn't fit in with what the side that you chose is. If I were to come on here and say, Russell Westbrook is terrible, the Lakers need to get rid of them. I would be completely dismissive of any stat that looks positive towards him I would be completely dismissive of any of this other stuff that I think has to be factored in when we look at what's going on with them, or in the same thing with the other side. I get people saying, I love Russell Westbrook and nothing's going to change, no matter what he does, well, that's completely dismissive of anything on the negative side..

"Was brought up. It's been a rough go for Russell Westbrook in terms of his role. It's constantly shifted and I think that, while that doesn't, again, that doesn't excuse the missed lamps. It doesn't excuse the lack of attention to detail and the defensive end of the floor, it's just something that if we don't mention it, we're not looking at the full picture of what's going on here with Russell Westbrook. People are saying, well, why isn't he the guy that he was? Well part of it is because everything around him is constantly changing and he's constantly trying to adjust, and that's not an easy thing. For a guy like Russ. You can't say that, Trevor. You're making excuses, man. Come on. Gosh. These Lakers nation people, all they do is make excuses. Okay. I wasn't sure if I was even gonna mention this. I guess I might as well get into it because we're halfway there at this point. I have gotten almost every single day over the last month or so. Which, by the way, my DMs are open on Twitter and everything like that on Instagram. So I get people messaging me all the time. I've gotten, I mean, literally hundreds of Russell Westbrook trades sent to me. What do you think about this? What do you think about that? What do you think about this? That's fine. No problem. But I have gotten every just about every day. I get people coming at me saying you're making excuses for Russell Westbrook. I can't even listen to this. Why are you making excuses for us? If I say anything like what I just said, and at the same time, I get people coming to me saying you are, why are you blaming everything on Russ? It's not really Russ. It's this guy's fault. Now, part of that, part of that. And so I've got fans coming at me saying you're being too hard on Russ. I've got kids coming at me saying this is all Russ's fault. How dare you defend him at all? It reminds me honestly when I was teaching. I one of my first years. I got two emails, the same day. One saying that I wasn't going in depth enough for parents. One thing I didn't go in depth enough into the Holocaust, which is a topic that I was covering. Another one saying I was going too far. Too far in depth into the Holocaust and that I allowed too much of the disturbing elements I don't know, well it's the Holocaust. It's disturbing, right?.

"On like the layups and yes, that's very frustrating, but one thing I think Frank is and he's a defensive line coach. I work with one myself as well. They don't really care. I don't think Frank cares for us misses a layup. I don't think he cares. Especially because of the status of Russell Westbrook, what do you say achieved in his career as recent last season? I don't think Frank Vogel cares about the miss layups or the bad jumpers because if he did, Russell Westbrook would not be on the floor at all, right? So I don't think Frank Vogel cares, but Frank does care and it's very apparent is the little things to intensively. The Lake cures outside maybe was daily Johnson, Anthony Davis and Reeves maybe. They don't have a lot of great point of attack on ball defenders, but Malik monk is a smart off ball defender. LeBron is a really smart awful defender. You have guys that are really good off the ball. So you don't have to be this Kawhi Leonard level on ball defender, but you need to be smart with your rotations. When it's time to trap you're talking communication offensively or even like really little stuff, fighting over top of screens so that they don't get it easy, drive to the basket. The little things like that and that's where Russell Westbrook really struggled in the next game and quite frankly for the majority of the season. You know, I think one thing that we need to mention about Russ and Frank Vogel has gone to this a lot. Frank Vogel is a new school coach if we want to look at him in that way. And I'm not talking about X's and O's. I know he's adapted his schemes quite a bit. Frank Vogel is new school in terms of how he handles his players. We've heard quite a bit about the collaborative aspect of any of his film sessions. It is very much not him standing at the front of the room barking at the players saying this is what you did here. This is what you did there. And there's a lot of voices in the room. Players are speaking up. They're involved in the process. Which coming from an education background, I can appreciate that. There's studies and everything that have shown that that creates more buy in. And there's definitely positives to doing something like that. Frank Vogel is also in terms of how he relates to players through the media. He's also a shield. You never hear Frank vocal really criticize his players. At least not publicly not to.

"But if you're the Lakers to throw in a first now and to just say we're done on Russell Westbrook, it looks bad. It could be bad business too. You mentioned putting in THT, I think the Lakers have to be careful with THT. Because most likely, if you trade him now, you've got to be sure you're getting something, I think that can really make a difference. Because most likely, if you trade THT now, let's say you use whatever value he's got and he may not have the same value around the NBA team by team. It's going to vary. Most likely though, THT will look better a year from now than he does right now. Because that's the nature of going from 21 to 22, getting another year of experience in the NBA. Most likely he's going to look better a year from now. And if you trade him now, you could very well be selling low on him. Now maybe the Lakers are in a situation right now, where it's worth it to sell low. They have to. They want to try to maximize their what they're doing at this moment with LeBron James at 37. That's understandable. But I think if the Lakers are going to attach assets to Russell Westbrook just to move him, it can't be a desperation just get this guy off the roster type thing. I don't think you can approach it from that scenario. I think you've got to be careful. You have to get something that it's actually going to help you. And because of that, or in part because of that, I don't see a trade actually happening with Russ. Yeah, again, as you mentioned at THC, 21 to 22, 22 to 23 preferably staying with the same team as well. That's gonna make a big difference. So THC is specially I'm a little more cautious about and then again a Russ and John wall potential trade like you mentioned. That looks really bad because you just need to Westbrook. You're trading him back into giving up a first round pick like he would just take and we don't want him anymore..

"I will put them on the YouTube channel as well. So you get to pick where you want to view or listen to each shows, just know that that's going to be there. Sometimes it takes the form of the postgame show when we have a midweek game or something like that. But in any event, your podcast feed will have a fresh pot on it every day Monday through Friday. All right, we've got a lot to get into today. We're going to talk, of course, a little bit about Russell Westbrook. I do have the mailbag to crack open here. We need to talk about Anthony Davis as well. In fact, that's where we're going to start. Joining me is Sean Davis from Lakers nation dot com. Sean, how are you doing? I'm doing all right, Trevor. How are you doing, actually? Feels like any axe that for once. I am hanging in there right now. It's been, I'm glad the Lakers got the win over the next. That certainly helped lift my spirits. I think it lifted the spirits of Lakers fans a little bit as well. I've been doing a little bit of a the office. I wouldn't want to say a rewatch. I've seen it so many times already, but I'm kind of going through and like picking specific episodes that I know are fantastic. And the last one I watched might be the greatest episode and that was the dinner party one. So I'm feeling pretty good after watching that video. Just a classic episode. So coming into the show, I've got that kind of that vibe still because I just watched it and it was fantastic. And so I'm excited for this. You get the dinner party episode and following up a Lakers one. Hey, that's a win win there. Absolutely. Absolutely. Now, Anthony Davis, we got to talk about him, because here's the thing. I'm getting so much about Russell Westbrook. And that's fine. That's fine. We can definitely and we will talk about him on this show. We've talked about him quite a bit. But I almost feel like the Russ concern or the worries over Russell Westbrook, particularly after that horrific performance against the New York Knicks. Yeah. It's almost eclipsing. It kind of is eclipsing Anthony Davis and what he's done. So I don't want to lose sight of what AD is doing. And not to mention LeBron coming back. That kind of stole some of the spotlight as well. And rightfully so, LeBron was fantastic against the next game time decision and then he just messes around and drops triple double. It don't get me wrong. LeBron deserves plenty of spotlight, but Anthony Davis, let's talk a little bit about him because since he has come back. From his injury..

"Did not make sense. Did not make any sense going into this one. Samuel henrique said, Trevor, was super chat. Thank you for what you do. I usually can't watch the games because I'm working, but I'm able to stay updated through the podcast. Oh, well, Samuel, thank you for the kind words. I do appreciate it. This is certainly a labor of love for all of us at Lakers nation. We enjoy getting to do this and feel very privileged to get to do this and it's because of people like all of you who come in here and watch. So appreciate all of you for sure. All right. Let's see here. I want to get into some of the stats as well. So Russ, by the way, 360 award, they can't really have it. It's the zero award because it was only Russ, but if LeBron and AD had played and we still got this version of Russ, there's a decent chance Russo won this award. 12 for 23 shooting, three of 7, 8 from three, 8 of ten from the free throw line, four boards, 5 assists, one turnover. And Russ is usage must have been through the roof in this game and still one turnover 35 points. This was his best performance of the season and he did it in. Some interesting comments here. He did it in a half, 30 of those points came in a half. He was absolutely fantastic. He was fantastic. So that being the case, this was a very clear win for Russell Westbrook in terms of where what he's done so far in the season. This is the guy, right? Well, we just saw in this half. That's the guy that we were hoping to see. This was my main criticism from Russell Westbrook last game. Last game, I said, hey, when LeBron is out, the whole point or a good portion of the point of bringing in Russell Westbrook was he's supposed to run things when LeBron is out. If LeBron's out, Russ can bear that burden, and he can lead you through to the finish line. And we hadn't seen that Russell Westbrook all season. All season.

"And this is, I mean, Pablo, this is after one of the best wins of the year. So like, there's been three or four of these games that the Lakers have had, where it felt like, okay, they're turning a corner. They had just beat the Utah Jazz in one of those type of games on a Monday night. Indiana comes to town. This is another very winnable game that they should have. One of the worst teams in the entire league, the pacers are. Yes. And the Lakers proceed to blow it. But in the way they started blowing it. And Russell Westbrook's role in the blowing it is what finally got Frank Vogel to decide, I gotta take him out of the game. That's a mismatch that Westbrook likes 20 foot bank shot hit the top of the backboard. Nice. He was aiming to bank it, but he threw it up too high off the glass. And probably like, people get benched all the time for various reasons, but very rarely do future Hall of Famers who just got named to the NBA's 75 best players of all time list. Get benched. And after the game, Frank Vogel was asked, why did you bench Russell Westbrook? And he says, it's just playing the guy who I thought gave us the best chance to win. Frank, you opted to go with Russ on the bench at the end of the game. What were you what were you looking for there? What was the thinking behind that behind that choice? Yeah, playing the guys. I thought we were going to win the game. Ramona, it's not great when what would otherwise be a very sort of like boilerplate coaching cliche comes off sounding like a red alarm subtweet. I mean, I don't know what there's this. There's nothing sub about that. That's on the nose, right? I mean, that's like a slap in the face. And the fact that Russell Westbrook knew what was happening. He walked off the court with ten seconds left in the game. And with straight to the locker room, didn't shake hands with anybody, and then left without speaking to the media. You know, from what I heard, he was kind of in the showers when the team came by to bring it up at the end. There wasn't a whole lot of interaction between west and his teammates afterwards. He says that he was willing to talk to the media that night, but Lakers PR advised him not to, said he didn't have to. But the next 36 hours of that news cycle were pretty rough. He's asking for some patients from people. This is his third team. His fourth team in four years is third new team and that it takes time to figure out how to play with each other just very undeterred about getting past Wednesday night and figuring out how to play and how to win for this Laker team. It felt like a turning point to the extent that somebody covering the league and covering this team, I was worried about, okay, is he going to show up on their flight tomorrow? They have a flight to Orlando that leaves at ten. And it's about 11 p.m. right now. He's got to drive home and do his thing. And it was, you know, Russell Westbrook's a pro, he's been through a lot of things in his career. He's a proud guy. I can't imagine him not showing up for a flight, but it was that level of a move that, you know, you never know how a superstar is going to react to that. And especially a superstar who's spent all year hearing that he's the problem and realizes probably now that he's going to be scapegoated for how the season has gone off the rails for the Lakers. And just to give a little more context Ramona into that particular moment, and the time in which it happened, simultaneous to all of this, of course, was the idea that Frank Vogel had been on a hot seat. That's right. I mean, two games earlier against the Utah Jazz. I had gotten a tip saying, hey, Frank's really on the hot seat. If they lose this one, you know, watch out. And, you know, we all called, you know, I called Adrian mos ruski and David Bennett and we all kind of on high alert for that game because they had just lost three in a row, and they didn't just lose three in a row. They lost to the kings, not one of the best teams in the NBA by any stretch of the imagination for probably the last 20 years, for being honest. And then they went to Denver and got worked. And it wasn't just a loss. It was listless and the spiriting, 30 point loss, where they were never in it, or never competitive. And the sense I've had around the Lakers and Frank Vogel all season is that nobody really wants to fire Frank Vogel. They all remember he led them to a championship in 2020. But there's only so many of those type of losses you can have. You gotta do something, right? And the question is, well, here you have a coach and a bunch of star players and it turns out that the microscope ends up focusing less on Frank Vogel in the end than on Russell Westbrook robot. And I want you to just explain for those who are unfamiliar, just how Westbrook even came to the team in the first place and what the whole vision was for the union that has now fragmented since. So Pablo, this story starts in the summer of 2021. When Russell Westbrook is still a member of the Washington Wizards, he had a really good finish to the season. He and Bradley Beal teamed up and the wizards finished strong and Russ's going for triple doubles every night. Westbrook rocking the cradle off one foot in the lane in and out and in. 32 30. Westbrook gets his tenth point. All right, he's got double digits and scoring. And it looked like he had really figured that out to the point where I think he had rebuilt his value around the league after a pretty rough stretch there in Houston. And Russell's hanging out in Washington and enjoyed his time there. But for the past three or four years, he's been focused on this idea of getting back to LA in some way. He's from Los Angeles. He has three kids. His family's here. He's one of those college for UCLA. Played for UCLA. His dad and his mom and his brother and his friends are all here in Los Angeles. And I think that was very appealing to us for the past couple of years. And so, LeBron James and Anthony Davis were also looking for another star to play alongside of them because both of them quite frankly had broken down. The year before. And some of that is just physical because the Lakers were playing after a very short layoff from the bubble. There was not enough time for them to recover, but there was a very real sense that LeBron James was turning 37 in at the end of December, Anthony Davis had had injury after injury. And the Lakers as currently.

"How was Russ after the game? Is that the sort of thing that bothers him? Have you followed us throughout his career? Have you followed us throughout this season? Would you think that would bother us not being like? Very nice. The Los Angeles Lakers are a team beset by questions. And the answers to at least some of them as no less than LeBron James just indicated there are painfully obvious. Like, of course, Russell Westbrook is bothered. Of course, LeBron himself, if he couldn't tell. His father. But all of that raises follow-up questions. So today, Ramona shelburne takes us inside the chemistry test underway in Los Angeles. And she tells us how bad all of this has really gotten. Behind the scenes. I'm Pablo taure. It's Thursday, January 27th. This is ESPN daily. Ramona, you're out in LA, you live and breathe the Lakers. How would you summarize the State of the Union for this team right now? Stuck with each other. You know, probably there's a lot of rich people in LA who are married and stay in marriages that aren't working out because it's too expensive to get divorced. The image has been in my mind for the past couple of weeks as I watch this team. There's just they went all in. They all talked about how this was going to go. They felt good about things, they entered into this new marriage with open eyes and also maybe way too optimistic eyes. Because it's just, you know, for a long time, I was saying, okay, give them time. There's only been 15 games where all three guys have played together. You know, each time LeBron is out or Anthony Davis is out Russell Westbrook has to play differently. But I think at some point during the season, you are what you are. Or what your record says you are. There's just not a lot of coming together. Things that give people hope. Yeah, the team right now is fighting to be a playoff team. They're fighting Ramona for the 8th seed. And so as romance goes, I do want to track the change of heart around Russell Westbrook because what you've focused on in your latest piece for ESPN dot com is the experiment that has been bringing Russ into state well done even called Staples Center, part of all the rebranding. You can still call it Staples Center. The crypto dot com crypt, whatever we're calling it. I mean, there was a moment it sounds like. LeBron James Reacts to Amassing Zero Votes for NBA's Best Player
"So we see this tweet from NBA Central 10 Scouts and executives voted on the best players heading into the 2021 2022 season. Yanez five votes, Kevin Durant five votes and LeBron James zero votes, and I guess this poll was done. Via ESPN, and LeBron sees it. And LeBron, of course, has to respond to it. Now let me remind you This was a few weeks back. Where the trade did go down with Russell Westbrook. And then the Lakers also acquired Carmelo Anthony LeBron James took to Twitter and you may not remember this tweet because he posted and then quickly deleted it and LeBron James said. Keep talking about my squad. Our age is the way he plays. He stays injured. We're past our time in this league, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Do me one favor, please. And I mean, please keep that same narrative energy. When it begins. That's all I ask. Thank you. I think he meant negative energy, but he he wrote narrative energy. Or maybe they're supposed to be a comma or period somewhere in that place. But you get the point. LeBron James, and I don't have a problem with him using this as motivation, right? Sometimes you use things as motivation. And you go. Yeah, that's not authentic. Like. Does anyone seriously believe that the Lakers don't have a shot to get to the NBA Finals this year? Especially with how I just laid it out. The Lakers just won a championship two years ago. Right? So now I'm going to say after one season later. Headed into them. It would be two seasons later. Oh, yeah. LeBron and Anthony Davis. No shot to win a championship like give me a break. And today LeBron sees this poll done by ESPN and he goes. Thank you. As if I didn't need more fuel if I didn't need more gas to fuel me. And then hashtag. Wash King.
Los Angeles Lakers Pair LeBron and Russ. Will It Work?
"I wanted to zoom out and go over the big picture landscape with someone who talks on our airwaves every day about the nba. Dhs is favourite league. I think the one. And only the greatest showman in show business and tv for espn stephen smith. Our you sub man. How you doing man glad to finally be here. I'm thrilled to make it happen. You are out in la. So let's start there you talked. I was listening to you on. I take a few days ago. Talking about russell. Westbrook in the amount of pressure that's on russell westbrook. But tell me about you know how. How do you think he fits. Lebron how what are you looking for him. How does he have to changes game or does he have to change his game. Well listen. I think i think both have to modify to some degree. Lebron can't be as ball dominant as as he has been off making all the decisions. Because that's one of the reasons rusting wanna be in houston anymore as you. Well know Because he didn't want to be you know sitting on the sidelines. Playing the role of spectator being on the plane and roller spectator watching james audit. Well that's not gonna change lebron james. He's happy to be back home. He's happy to be la. He's happy to be on a title contender which he is on. We get all of that But in the end he still russell westbrook in you know credit to him. You know like. I told you we've had to be. We've all had to be critical of him at times. What we know that. He's an electrifying talent. The most athletic point guard we've ever seen in nba history. We know he's a walk in triple double and we also know. He never cheat to game with his effort when he's out on a court it's always one hundred percent and so when you look at the slow. Almost snail like pace that the lakers could could. Could you know what wouldn't prone to plan towards playing at at tom's in the past and now you've got somebody like russell westbrook all of a sudden and lebron having a night off. Ad having a night off isn't as daunting as it was the previous two years. I think that helps them during the regular season. And then i think once the postseason comes whatever it takes to win is what i think the character in russell westbrook and lebron james will do.
LeBron James Deletes Fiery Tweet Calling out Lakers Haters
"Let's get to LeBron James. So LeBron James has tweeted. All right. Well, then he took it back. So we all know that the Lakers partially out of desperation, They've had to retool the back end of the roster because they've got no money. They've got no financial flexibility with the three guys making the money that they are with LeBron a DNA Russell Westbrook in the mix, so they recently added Carmelo, who is 37 Trevor, reasons 36 Dwight Howard is 35 Wayne Ellington, who's a young buck. He's 33 get baseboards. 32 Westbrook is 32 as well, but he's got the big money. So LeBron wrote, just tweeted this out, and he said Keep talking about my squad. Our personal ages. The way he plays, he stays injured. We're past our time in the league, etcetera, etcetera. Do me one favor, please. And I mean, please. He's going caps and exclamations. LeBron must be serious. Keep that same narrative energy caps when it begins, exclamation. That's all I ask Hashtag. Thank you. Then he deleted it. Yeah, because we will you deleting it for that? We will keep it that way. When it begins. We are fair on this show. We will. But why are they the leading? They play Great. Then go say we're wrong.
Tokyo Games Week Two Begins
"So you are man. In tokyo we talked to you last when you were marveling at the robots sinking half court shots at the men's basketball games. Were going to get to men's basketball on a sack. We'll get to russell. Westbrook ben simmons because my soul still has not recovered from that saga with the sixers. But you're on the precipice of week two of the olympics and the last time we talked to you you were extraordinarily disoriented and you had a giant jar of peanut butter. So what's the mood in tokyo. These days the japanese are doing great and he's olympics ryan windhorst a week into covering the olympics from tokyo. They've won more gold medals than they ever had seen olympics. There are still protests happening but From watching the reaction of the japanese success and talking to my friends who are consuming japanese media the games have come a long way in the eyes of the japanese. and so. that's kind of ben this This whole this whole experience. You make the best of your situation. And the japanese have made the best of it and and are thriving are yes so i know you're you're still in quarantine right but you're getting out to see events and stuff. What did you see today. "This for a few weeks now, I could see a scenario where the Lakers burn their taxpayer mid-level on Drummond dead, and I say that hesitantly because I know the way that's going to be received, and I know that that's not necessarily what the Lakers need. And when I look at the free-agent market and I see what's out there at the center position, there's other guys you can get to do with drum and does and especially with Russell Westbrook on board drum and especially isn't a fit because you don't shoot the three and you can't have Westbrook. And from it on the floor, long time, essentially cuz your floor spacing is just totally gone in that scenario but I think Rob pelinka likes him. I used to be his agent. "Ellington, something like that, maybe a little Williams, I don't know. I need a better Defender and I need to go and look through the list. The centers, that's the challenge. This is where so Rob public, right. I think that, that talent-wise Westbrook is great. Now, the challenge is always going to be. What do you do for the rest of your roster? You've gotta find shooting. You have to find guys that can give you floor. Space with Westbrook on the floor, seems will not defend a behind the three-point line. They're going to camp in Iraq paint, so it's going to be critical that you find shooting from the other positions and that includes the center spot. Whenever you're not running a d at the five, which I do think we're going to see more Anthony Davis at the 5. But anytime you're running somebody else. Yeah position. They pretty much have to be able to shoot. Like if you put in let's say you go get Dwight Howard and you put them on the floor at the same time as Westbrook. That's two guys on the floor. At the same time, the teams are not going to defend find 3.6 in the half-court that can be a problem. So I think that shooting is now far away along with defense the priority for the Lakers. Now that you've got Westbrook to make that kind of playmaking leap that the Lakers need. Now, it's not all on LeBron James to play me. Yeah, exactly. No. Getting getting Shooters is key at this point. I'm sure they had that in mind. I'm sure, you know, I saw an Instagram account that Laker Chapo, they posted a picture of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook all at Nobu having dinner in La last Sunday. So they've been talking about this. They've been working this, they know what they need to do and then they will they will find Shooters to round out the roster. And then I mean, you saw a Russel Westbrook did kicking it out to a sugar is in 2017. Now, you got LeBron and KD to help create floor space. Just ridiculous stuff. We're going to be seeing, Victor of the superjet said, the next deal is Dennis Schroder to Miami in a double sign-and-trade. For Duncan Robinson again, you can't take on a player in a sign-and-trade, any more money and it would hard cap you and the Lakers just took on salary in the West Brookfield. So I don't think that's realistic for the for even just that reason. Ashwin mungkin from YouTube said, could we sign off? Trade THD for Buddy. Hield and still be under the hard cap. Yeah, look, if you the only way you trigger the hard cap and assign a trade situation..

"First of all. Can you just take us through the winding road of how russell westbrook ended up with the washington wizards so at some point over the offseason westbrook made it clear to the rockets that he wanted them to find him a new home. Something is up in houston. Tell our tim macmahon in. Adrian were ski that both russell westbrook and james harden have expressed uncertainty about the direction of the franchise. And when you have a guy who makes that sum of money and you have to match salaries it just becomes very difficult to find a market and that's kind of why you see a lot of these guys on supermax contracts. Getting swamped see john. There'll be the statue outside the Chesapeake arena and even the owner Clay Bennett stepped out and said look I have great deal respect for Russell and there's is not adequately adequately describe our appreciation for what he's meant to Oklahoma's you know usually the owners keep silent on this kind of stuff unless their names Marco Bar Cuban but he's a first rate player and now Chris Paul is there with three years left on the contract and you know they're going to either move them for the right deal or they'll hold onto him for a little bit and wait to see how it plays out and if somebody gets hurt on a contending team they might be able to convince the team to take Chris Paul off their hands. His better days are behind them. They just are and the danger that Oklahoma City and Billy Donovan faces is that they need to put the ball in the hands of of Gilgit Alexander the piece that they picked up from in the trade the Paul George. He's the guy he's the guy that the clippers didn't want to give up. He's the guy that was deemed untouchable because of his ceiling and he's the guy that's going to step in and replace Russell Westbrook at the Point Guard position is he put put up the stats that Russell so westbrook puts up Hell No. He's not going to be a triple double machine but he distributes he gets the rest of the team involved and although I think the thunder are going to be in the lottery I think they're going to be competitive not competitive for a playoff spot in the fact that there's such depth out west. It'll be difficult for them to do that but they've got decent players on that basketball team. The question is what role. does chris paul take on his team should he stick with them to start the season to me if you're billy donovan you can't start him he has to come off the bench and lead the second unit in most expensive point guard the history of second unit but he has to come off the bench you have to turn this team over to gildas alexander you just have to because he has to develop and he is your future i don't know how that's going to sit with chris paul and they've got a ton of draft picks going forward and i do mean ah tong but it it's gonna be it's gonna be an interesting watch just because of how the coach is going to have to juggle things and how the crowd crowd because don't kid yourself the oklahoma city thunder fans are the most loyal in the association.

"Glowing send off by Sam Prestige Four Russell Westbrook and Russell Westbrook is always going to be revered in Oklahoma home city because when everybody else everybody else see Kevin Durant abandoned the city Russell Westbrook stuck and he managed to convince Paul George Dot Com for a year Kawhi Leonard Who's recruiting prowess is very underrated got George to demand a trade San Pristine recognizing that they could get back under the salary cap and rebuild on the fly whether rebuild around two you guys who were thirty years old made the moves and prestige talked about it in the release and he said look and it in the press conference. I should say wasn't even a release. He said Russell Westbrook is the most important player in the brief history of the Oklahoma City Thunder. That's pretty strong. Stuff elected indelible mark on the team the city and the state known of US could've anticipated the players become world deeply proud of what he contributed to success in the franchise and through the community Russell and his wife Nina three children and brother and his parents will always remain part of thunder family. We wish them nothing but happiness and success in the future. I don't know if Russell Westbrook's are going to get a ring but they're gonNA retire the Jersey. They'll be the statue outside the Chesapeake arena and even the owner Klay Bennett stepped out and said look I have great deal respect for Russell. There's no way to adequately adequately describe our appreciation for what he's meant to Oklahoma's you know usually the owners keep silent on this kind of stuff unless their names Mark Mark Cuban but he's a first great player and now Chris Paul is there with three years left on the contract and you know they're going to either move them for the right deal or they'll hold onto him for a little bit and wait to see how plays out and if somebody gets hurt on contending team they might be able to convince the team. He's the guy that was deemed untouchable because of his ceiling and he's the guy that's going to step in and replace Russell Westbrook at the point guard position is he put a GonNa put up the stats asked Russell Westbrook puts up hell. No He's not going to be a triple double machine but he distributes he gets the rest of the team involved and although I think the thunder are going to be in the lottery I think they're are going to be competitive now. Competitive playoff spot in the fact that there's such depth out west. It'll be difficult for them to do that but they've got decent players on that basketball team. "Starting you know what that's why you're even right now i i think that has when we should absolutely our roster spot if russell westbrook's on his young because i think russell westbrook's a bit of a a locker room a 'nigma a bit of a mystery you need someone to kind of be the leader that russell westbrook is in says hissing radiator but i do watch summer league right i've seen tyler hero games you've got some fast you see some players on the summer league team and you're like man they really deserve to be on this roster more than i'm just saying i'm just saying you're let's let's try so you're gonna make is you see these players playing well a on on the summer league team just know that a lot of them aren't gonna be on the well hero maybe dunkin robinson's out even on it you're picking the have you done it has inspired leadership and veterans saturday in locker room presence over some of these fires that seemed to be you know potential future assets you develop i'm just saying that that in the future their future assets will talk to them on their assets you deem it is a little alarming if they haven't signed hero yet because that means he's still eligible will be traded alarming it should be exciting for you right i say all this i i was making fun of he finds out that her saying let's keep hero over westbrook but i would like to be able to trade westbrook get rid of some of those big contracts and keep a guy like that would be ideal i i would love first euro to become an asset that a either become a superstar obviously or is used as a piece and get you a superstar she but as a central piece right now he's just tucked in the sweetener and then i sweden is actually not good free by the way he finds something good you wanna throw in these well i just don't i understand what they're saying about the hard cap but in terms of russell westbrook end if you wanna even consider the the john wall contract you don't need to attach any sort of asset or sweetener to get those contracts off of those teams books because those were bad contracts you in fact if you're a pat riley you demand gimme russell westbrook an of first round picks back in that you don't think so because this contract is that bad guys still like we've turned you a little bit though i trust organization if they had any fans let's do that i'll be guys but you're going off on one crazy tangent right now right you you're even admitting that you don't think it's going to be good back we want it but i i know you don't come on came we find a way to make the bradley beal thing happened more there's more sensible here people i think let's have a sensible fun i think in time you're probably end up being better this way we don't bradley beal doesn't excite you know that really doesn't excite me for some reason i get what you're saying more fissionable lob defensive player you know when when russell westbrook throws down a dunk and he goes back to the other end of the floor and he's like just yelling exciting yeah that's not a that's not what i'm envisioning i'm investing russell westbrook in transition breaking a three that's a like a terrible decision from the shoot and then him so being angry and then he's gonna make it the next time and guess what he's not i mean twain wade with shooting are game winning three one of the worst three point shooters ever know he turned around that script later we do we we bring in bad three points you got some when we do what we do and i don't understand they just last week saying pet doesn't wanna sign anybody over the age of thirty tied to that but he didn't realize this with the possibility exactly you also realize that any of this was a possibility the bad teams bad teams like the knicks and the lakers because as soon as they're free agency plans altered they started signing bad players to bigger contracts when i think the space is more valuable why because there's always gonna be a superstar that subset.
