The deal still pending formal approval from the P A in the board of governors, but all signs pointing towards the return of hockey within the next few weeks. And I felt a shorthand in Washington football team home against Seattle on Sunday. QB Alex Smith ruled out with a calf issue. So Dwayne Haskins said to make his first start since Week four after getting benched in early October. Haskins certainly appreciative of this opportunity. Biggest thing I wanted to do face in this whole thing's come on the other side stronger. That's what I did looking forward to doing that. With high opportunity that I get going forward. Meanwhile, Washington leading rusher Antonio Gibson officially listed as doubtful is he continues to deal with an ankle injury. The Curious Case of Frank Gore
"Tim kunin you recently. Wrote a profile of frank gore for espn dot com. So what inspired you to take him on as a topic at this particular moment. It's interesting follow. Because i've watched his career forever. I i'm in the bay area. So i followed him when he was with the forty niners and he's always struck me as someone who's sort of exists outside of our current time. Espn's tim. Qa has been writing about the nfl for three decades. Like he's this guy. That's the third leading rusher all time and yet he doesn't really seem to be appreciated or highlight that you can point to. He's just sort of this guy that has just existed forever in our consciousness and right and the fact that he's he's on the jets. He's he's i mean he's their lead back still. It just became this thing like how. How remarkable it is for someone. His age thirty seven years old From the two thousand five draft class as a running back is still not only in the league but productive and you spoke to him on the phone for a long time for this story and as you say despite him being this guy with a resume that might be worthy of consideration hall of fame consideration. He is fairly anonymous. So tell us what he's actually like. As a person he is amana few words and he is We did have a very long conversation. And you know he's he just is a football guy. I know that sounds like a cliche but everyone you talk to about. Frank says that he's this vont. He's one of those people that that can do these things but isn't particularly good at explaining them. And i think it's partly because what he does is just as is a product of of work and study and just feel and it's another reason why why he's one of a kind. I'm not talking. I'm really not a talker. I know i've been blessed with the bullied. Play football at a high level. I'm glad there every day you know. Give it up all on field in the game. And we'll give my teammates mall to i take advantage of it and why i take advantage of occurs got got taken away from you at college so i know that knows this game not promise nobody as we say in that press conference clipped him. His injuries in college an enormous part of his story early on had come to the university of miami out of nearby coral gables high school as a freshman. He was a backup on that iconic team. That won the two thousand and one national title scoring five touchdowns that year and really impressing people as this up and comer tell us what played out over the next few seasons. You talk about remarkable. I mean he had to l. tears at the university of miami and was on those uteem's with guys like mcgahey in clinton portis in one star after another in the backfield and he pushed himself to overcome these injuries and to compete with those guys obviously for running back. Acl tear is among the worst. And have it have twice in college. You know it would seem to be insurmountable. It cost him some speed as a freshman. He was kind of a revelation as a speed back down. You know what we think of him now isn't necessarily that. It's it's the tough yards and it's the inside yards. So i think he had to adapt a little bit to what he could do when he lost a step or to get the poor right gore riding out what again the man out of coral gables brings the big to the miami hurricane he just wilt himself to become a third round draft. Pick of the forty niners in two thousand five. Only a handful of guys from that drafter still playing in most of them are quarterbacks and kickers.

From Wednesday's round of testing. The 40 Niners will be without receivers Kendrick born Brandon I. You Can d Bo Samuel, along with left tackle Trent Williams, Dolphins leading rusher
Dallas Cowboys Shopping Everson Griffen
"The Seahawks might be in play for a trade for Dallas defensive end Everson Griffin. The Cowboys did peddle their pass rusher, but to the Detroit Lions for a conditional six round draft choice. Some believe Griffin salary might not fit in the Seahawks cap structure out of football for two years. Former Dallas cowboy receiver Dez Bryant has signed on with the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. The Wisconsin Badgers could be down to a four string quarterback for Saturday's game in Nebraska. Two of their top quarterbacks have tested positive Rickover and under big 10 guidelines have to be isolated 21 days. Meanwhile, the Washington Huskies are building depth and contingency plans in case of Corona virus cases. I think the

Ravens make trade for Vikings pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue
"Morning in the NFL when the five and one Baltimore Ravens acquired pass rushing specialist Janek Ingot Quay from the Minnesota Vikings and Exchange for 3rd and 5th round picks. 25 year old in Ga. Hall of Famer, 49ers great Fred Dean dies at 68
"News today. The big story of the day. Fred Dean has passed away. The Hall of Famer and former former 40 Niner great at the age of 68 was due to Cove. It 19 And for those who haven't heard, I want you to talk a bit more about him. But the NFL hall fame tweet this out that it was great his Hall of Fame speech and you're gonna hear Eddie D. And here is well, take a listen. I could consider being born by the truck. But having a renewal life with 49 being would afford it. I found it on the other side of that bridge on the other side. Wass rainbow, true ending of a rainbow. You know, Fred never said much. He was a quiet giant. But when the defense needed him to make a big play way, look to Fred and never let us down. Never no matter what the situation Wass. It's come time to put Fred Deans spectacular career. In historical perspective. First off, he was a pioneer. He was the forefather of the great high Bridge edge pass rushers. He led the way from players like Derek Thomas. Our own Charles Haley. Great Andre Tippett was being inducted today with Fred. And I'd like to say to the returning. A lot of vintage players were winded, please. I'm honored to be with such an elite group of guys is so important. The bottom line is I know I'm not going to cry. Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great honor, which I carry out with enormous personal pride present for induction. Intothe Pro Football Hall of Fame. Quiet, giant natural, great friend. I like to say to all those Here from from rusting. From Beauty college free. I just want I want all my brothers and sisters in price. I was well done. Ah, Eddie here call him the quiet giant and he has such a great Hall of Fame speech. I love and that kind of stuff happens is great. Wow. On how much else to say Eddie was At the induction. Just the words were perfect and, you know When you lose people now can you even have Ah Memorial of Hyun Roh? Howdy eulogized people of so many of our great you're dying and all the sports and Kredyt directly from covert 19, which is Makes it really sad but And he said it all. I mean, he just changed football and you look back on that trade. There was made and in our friend Dan Pfoutch. Maybe listening. He never got to a Super Bowl. He came close, and probably the closest was that year. What if she incline does not trade Fred Dean? To the 40 Niners. For the 40 hunters, you know, go to the NFC championship game in the catch and all that. And in front of the other side of it If the Chargers keep Fred Dean You know, Maybe that game is not at the Ice Bowl in Cincinnati. Maybe it's in San Diego. It's a home game. So Amy look at who won the Super Bowl. That year. That was a trade between two of the top four teams that went to the final 4 40. Niners won the conference championship won the Super Bowl because of Fred Dean. And the Chargers did not. So that's just one of those trait. I mean, you look at it. It's one of the biggest trades in the history of pro football and that it set the 40 Niners upto win again and again and again. And he was on the first two. So it's just a change history. There's no doubt about it. Yeah, a great tribute, Tio, Fred Dean and again, you can see that online. You can see Obviously the audio's really moving, But you could go online Social media today Twitter. And you can check it out onto the NFL Hall of Fame and really well done in a tribute to Ah, Fred Deans. There
Browns dealing with injury questions at tackle
"Us some news about steelers running back James Connor. Yoshimi sprained his ankle last night Laura now, Mike Tomlin said they're going to leave the white on them for this weekend. So they don't believe it's overly serious, but obviously couldn't finish last night's game in penny snow came and finishes the weeks second leading rusher play very well. Philip, he's got a case turf toe. He also didn't finish last night's game. The team is opening that it's mild. He's hoping that he'll be able to go. This week but PHILP Lindsey Nursing Turf Twenty three to Jerry painful for running backs a difficult injury, and of course, the bears right now are dealing with an unhappy Allen Robinson who today took off his social media pages all mentions of the bears he's unhappy with his contract situation. He's in the last year deal. He'd like a new contract and the fact that he is basically removing references to the bears on his social media platforms. An old trick also a new trick, but it also tells you a lot about players mindset, Alan Robinson not happy with the bears at this point in time.
Yannick Ngakoue has traded from the Jaguars to the Vikings
"And Janek and Ga Quay is traded from the Jaguars to the Vikings. That report from ESPN is Adam Schefter. Minnesota gets an elite pass rusher to pair with the deal Hunter to give the Vikings one of the top defense is in the lead. And the JAG Wars get more ammunition in the 2021 draft, in which they now will have picks in the first five rounds. Adam Schefter on best week ever in that deal, Jacksonville gets a second round pick next year and a conditional fifth rounder in 2022 got away had said earlier he would not sign a long term deal. With the Jaguars, where he's piled up 37 a half sacks in his first four seasons

"But if you were there I mean you go along with it I'm sure but. Zero chance I mean and I found myself asking how is this exactly going to work like how is this GonNa work when you know okay, you're going to have a training camp we're not going to have preseason games. And then you're just that was such a big part of the show even if you think and I do like, I, think that the preseason games. They're not going to be missed here. There will be missed by others, but the one place I think that you could miss them if you're gonNA argue is on hard. Because there's a lot that they build up the drama. Some fringe player who is right there on the chopping block and how he performs in one of these games might be the difference between him remaining on the roster ending up on a practice squad or getting caught right like we've seen these players all throughout the years and it sort of feeds into the drama of the actual show because you start investing and individuals, which is not something you really do when it comes to pro football unless it's your fantasy team. So you're going to be without that, I, think takes away element of the show but I said like I wonder how this is GonNa work are we going to get really Behind the scenes footage on how these guys are dealing with pandemic. So what were they showing? What was the what was the actual teaser was just a bunch of dudes running around and they can show you during the break if you want. Is it yeah I didn't see anybody wearing masks. So it looked somewhat like stock footage and I'm guessing this was the them diff- I've been to the rams facility. I've not been the chargers facility I'm never going to go to the chargers so. But I just were showing different clips of it again and I don't know that I'm all that compelled to watch it I mean I might watch it just because. Kevin O'CONNELL on the coach for the ram his this is his second redemption tour. Hopefully, this will this win logo better I mean he has a he's a job he's a lock he's not gonNA they're not gonNA cut the offensive coordinator at the end of hard knocks very, very dramatic but I feel better about his fate. Take Sue then when the jets Kevin gets cut on this. Forever, Yeah you're breaking up. That's that's my. Officially. Over it. But I do I tend to like behind the scenes, shows docu series and things like that. So I gravitate towards it even though it's NFL but. I. Sort of wondering I think that there's some some mixed feelings about I. You know and I don't really WanNa see like dean or his kids put up there. I don't think they'll make the cut Darren. No, I don't think listen I don't think they're going to make the cut I think if anybody gets airtime I stan with what he's paying his own pocket he doesn't want to be on camera but ended you're not. You're not giving the other team. You don't want there in the first place and especially now when you've got no one income coming on tickets and sweets for this season for your inaugural season, there.
"rusher" Discussed on The Darren Smith Show
"Who would you start with? You know sometimes there's an argument for guys on the line. Right? We've seen Joey Bosa make a boatload of money. We've also seen a pretty impactful trade between the jets and the seahawks if brandon flowers was building a defense, where would you start? Who would who would the first player to build around who with the big? It all starts off. Right you know. So definitely go pass rusher or de Lama and I'm thinking I'm going with Donna from the rams. You know even though he don't get as many sex as a edge rusher like Melvin Ingram or when they wanNA chargers move both outside doing it rank game, he always gotta get double and triple team. So if you have elite has Russia on edge or semi. Is this GONNA free I'm up because the way the blocking schemes have to go the running back is GonNa Block. The air's restaurant lot because. is taking up Aaron Donald taking up to blockers every time if he's one on one, he's GonNa make play. So quarterbacks as much as we love the praise and we love when everybody call our name it all starts up front because if you don't get any pressure, I, don't care what quarterback it isn't nfl you won't be covered. So I think that's pass rushers and airs rush shit get the most money because he's man to man coverage like a used to anymore they're running a Lotta zones and a lot of fires all too confused quarterback now. So I'm sorry with Aaron Donald Upfront. I. Am shocked and you just alluded to it. I am shocked at a defensive back wouldn't start a defense by picking a defensive back to to as the number one pick. In opposite coordinator. So smart also even if you. Corner and you WANNA play man-to-man all game. You're going to go to play the San Francisco Forty Niners, Shanahan's GonNa Bunch these guys up have everybody type split. Well, you can't bumper run and most defense they have to check to his own anyway. So coordinated against Martin. Now, when you have any elite Infanta on other sites, they won't let you play to your place your ability so. I was coordinated smart. He's gotta go with somebody that can disrupt the game. You seem Bosa in the bugner those guys do it win the forty niners last year it's almost everybody they played. Rake a habit upfront and nobody office could get going against those guys. That's why they played in seeking super bowl. So once you got through with your past disruptor there and Aaron Donald type wear is your defensive back coming from WHO's the first defensive back for Brandon flowers. Her. Back Man, it's tough I want it's either going to be steph arguable because of how he shows up in a run support, he can play zone and he can play man or I'm going with a ball ball during James. This guy can play the middle of the field make make a place picking the ball off or you can lock him up on a tight in you can line them up in a slot..

"A training camp for an entire season I, think that'd be able for the player I. Don't think they're thinking about that right now. But once week four hit, they're GONNA be tired of the same hotel just the saying that over and over just doing the same thing every day it's GonNa be miserable guys I mean they'll play the sport they loved the flay but I I don't know I think we haven't seen. It won't be as exciting because the players won't have as much juice they would normally have you know living their everyday life. Well I think that that's an important thing year and you know I, try to say delicately brandon and brandon flowers is joining us you know that lifestyle and less I don't recall. You. were out and raging every single night of the week and I don't know what went on in your world brandon but you know I think that young men with some money. They're pretty desirable right? I mean it's lifestyle across all of sports here and I'm not trying to make it sound like like you know. Hey throw caution to the wind but you know that's part of being a professional athlete. Right? Is that you get to play the game but you also get to appreciate and enjoy the lifestyle of being a professional athlete and I I think that might be tougher to give up than some people who aren't athletes might realize. Definitely a team teammate of mine when I was in. San Diego when I was with the chargers made this stadium and it makes so much sense by the name Stevie, the wire receiver he say handled this half fun. We wear it's hard to get to the NFL. So continue to work hard and be a professional at your crime, but you have to have fun. That's that's part of making it, and it's just something as simple as the Thursday Friday night dinners at your favorite restaurant which our position group just. Every Friday or Thursday you picking a different restaurant food with the guy just hang out just talk about something different than football like you can't do that. If you inside of a bubble and we do those dinners, do come back into the locker room the next day refresh ready to get ready for the game on Sunday. You know you only have Saturday that's you're traveling. You feel refreshed you gotTa camping not talk about football which guys just enjoy each other outside the locker room before you travel on Saturday the play. Traveling on Saturdays or you get ready for the game on Sunday so you definitely need that time to just get away I know NBA doing their thing right now with these games getting ready for the playoffs with knives it's totally different during a whole season that way. Right and I agree with you I think that it's only natural again, and some will say, well, you guys make a lot of money. Wise. So hard just to stay in your homes if you're being asked to do so but like you said, I mean once you're adapting to a certain type of lifestyle brand, it's a little more tougher. It's a little tougher to give that up. I think for certain guys not everybody not saying you I'm just saying certain guys. Definitely. Definitely..

He's going to have a good career. He joins us on extra thirteen, Sixty Brandon Darren Smith in San Diego. Thank you very much for your time. Thanks for having me always always in short. So Talk Sports, which is so I appreciate you having. I appreciate it. I gotTA. Tell you. You're the first football player that I can remember and I'm not saying that you were the first who decided to go vegan while still inactive play right? You were full Vegan vegetarian went full vegan correct for a little while. Ago. Full. Vegan I used to do it on an off season because I see how it used to bring my body back to live get all the swelling in toxins out and I just figure why not do it for the season because the season a lot of you know just it's just a long haul sixteen we training camps there's a lot of banging on your body. So instead of trying to get it all on all season, just try not to have it just pile up on during the season it was tough but it just made me feel great out there on the field. And I think about you every time I saw I think I was reading just last week about Cam Newton. Cam Newton is living that lifestyle and I always think about you brandon flowers because you were the first person I can remember as an active player who went down that road and went into that lifestyle. So I don't know how many guys are are doing it. We hear about NBA guys, they seem to do it a lot. was there a reason why you you decided you know maybe to make a switch or make the change. Like I, say my my body responded to it so well, and I paid the hardest thing for athletes to do is find good Vegan food. Once you find good Vegan food and then learn how to prepare it yourself. Then it's smooth sailing..

"I don't know if I feel the same rothlisburger injuried. I wonder if the wheels are potentially about to come off. Hopefully not but you know you kind of wonder. They say they need more of an urgent backup. Plan then Green Bay so that could be a team. I Dunno Pittsburgh's type of place. It's going to trade up but like I could see them taking a quarterback in the second round. Did Trey Burton get picked up by anybody? I'm just I was just thinking about The whole of the colts picked up. Okay all right Thanks For doing this much appreciated And I will talk to you Probably next week at some point have a good woman. Pretend thanks you for For all the run. It's been fun. The last few weeks on the radio Even though the guy the hour at eight in the morning but It's free. I love when people said at the ungodly hour of Eight. Am My days half over? Basically I've been obsessed three thirty but no I you know it benefited me more than than than it did you. So I'm appreciative. Thanks so much. Have a good weekend all right. Second and third round tonight The redskins most of you know have a third rounder. They don't have a second round. Remember they dealt that to Indianapolis as part of their trade that got him into the first round at the end of the first round last year. Take Montanez sweat So right now unless they make some deal they have a third round tonight. They have to fourth rounders tonight. So three picks tonight and then they've got a fifth rounder and two-sevenths After that to finish up the Finish up draft on On Saturday in terms of Trent Williams just to repeat I think he'll get traded this weekend If he doesn't. I think the chances on Monday that we're having a conversation about him coming back Are Significant conversations about that Minnesota would be the team? I'd lean towards. They have all those. Pixie of twelve picks left in this draft I think Denver's team that could potentially make a deal for him as well as far as players. You know That the Redskins may have a chance to get at sixty six It bend mentioned you know wide receiver in the depth of wide receiver tight end. You know certainly if Cole commit the Notre Dame Receiver of COOLIES WRONG. And he doesn't get picked in the second round and he's sitting there at the beginning of the third. That would be a huge win for the Redskins to be able to add a player of his cat Caliber a Cooley likes trautmann from Dayton. He also likes easy a little bit from Ucla. Like the kid from Missouri As well Charlie Warner is the guy that he's been all over. He had a chance to coach him from Georgia. You Know Warner's really of a very late round pick would be a Saturday pick more than anything but But that's a guide to keep an eye on at that position the wide receivers. We're going to see a run on them in the second half. I can't second round. I can't imagine that guys like Higgins and Pitman and C. N. K. J. Hamblur and Klay Pool Aren't taken in the second round Chenault junior from Colorado Denzel mims who had dead men at multiple points over the last couple of months. Chenault junior to have been mocked in the first round. I think all those guys ended up going in the second round. The redskins might have an opportunity in the third round. Though to get a guy that Fred smoot told me is GonNa be a star Antonio Gandhi Golden From Liberty. It's possible they could go. Ohio state with another former Haskins receiver and draft K J Hill. Who is probably going to be there in the third round Brian Edwards at one point. You know there's some injuries there but a lot of people like Tim. I like in addition to hammer who? I really like Who's off the board? Most of you know I really like Tyler Johnson from Minnesota and I think he would be available potentially in the fourth round for the Redskins Colin Johnson at a Texas is a huge receiver. Six five six six and Devon d'auvergne as more of a top end speed guy out of Texas. They're both projected there chase klay poll haven't mentioned from Notre another big target innocent people like him as well. I wouldn't be. I'd be surprised if he were around at sixty six Corners Ben was mentioning some of the corners. I think we're GONNA see several of those off the board in the second round Jalen Johnson from Utah. Probably Trayvon digs. Here's a guy. Potentially that could be there in the third round. Is Bryce Hall Bigger Sized Corner? You know a team captain. You know a multiple year starter in a really good defensive scheme at UVA You know he's a possibility You know with that. Pick in the third round You know if the redskins were still thinking safety. There's a Guy Jeremy Chin at Southern Illinois. That could be there. Kyle Duggar at out of a small score school. Lenore Ryan I'd be surprised if grant delpe doesn't get picked in the second round he was a projected. I one hundred year ago I do think mckinney in Winfield will be off the board pretty quickly in the second Inside linebacker you know is a position that isn't necessarily super deep But the redskins could be looking at somebody there and obviously the tackles you know Ben Mentioned it. Cleveland probably going to go in the second round Guy Like Jones at Houston probably the same thing. Pert a lot of good things about what people think about Prince. Taegu WanNa go from Auburn in the possibility that he could be there in the third round But a personally. I think that best player on the board as long as it's not a quarterback Or a defensive. Lineman is the way that the redskins will go and should go at number sixty six overall you know. They need great players. They don't need to reach for a player to fill a need in the rest of this draft I don't feel that way anyway. Obviously you're not going to more likely than not take a quarterback you know at this point In the draft and Defensive Lineman you can never have enough but they got a lot right now so I would think third round tonight if that's your only that's only pick in the two fourth rounders The fifth rounder the two-sevenths tomorrow. They only make one pick tonight. The third rounder. I would bet that it's a wide receiver a tight end or a corner All right If there is big news you know a big trade or a Trent Williams. You Know Trade. That is significant. I might do a show over the weekend tomorrow. More likely than not though will just be back on Monday. And we'll recap everything. They did In the draft over the weekend tonight and Saturday as well thanks Stay safe stay. Well enjoy the weekend back on Monday..

"Yeah I mean. I think they're running backs. You know sort. Of what what is your. What are you looking for in a running back with determining which you like the best and you know ten years ago fifteen years ago? It's possible all for the guy that you just mentioned going the first round in twenty twenty. That's not happening. People don't value running back in the same way. Kansas City is particularly unique circumstance. I mean they got my last year with a guy who was off the scrap heap to be their go through that I remember one. Mock draft ahead Swift as the picket thirty two and then some executive you know that why. Why would Kansas City take her back in the first round? Look what they did. They don't need to do that. And you could make that argument that maybe they shouldn't have but this guy you know Edwards hilarious such a good fit for what they do. It just makes it all the more challenging now to to deal with that offense having a pass catcher like that out of the backfield so I totally get like. Kansas City went for him and went. That went that route But yeah the general is just you know running backs or You know it's. It's not what it used to be in terms of The value of them in the draft to more and I'll let you run I got nowhere to go in in. Think in thinking about in thinking about the redskins you know Defensive Front And all of the players they have there. And you know they're gonNA play. The Rivera talked about a rotation last night. Now that we know chase young is there. What do you think's GonNa Happen With Carrigan? It's a great question. You know to sort of go back to the whole reason about this whole left tackle. And that's why we know turned willing to stay. Make them like I at this point of the opinion. Yeah look if they had signed Amari Cooper things would be different but they didn't and pretty much everything they didn't. Free Agency is about depth and culture and bill and sort of know filling in the gaps. But Not really overt needs. I mean all all their needs still look all their needs. We talked about in the offseason still exist. The left tackle receivers arguably corner be. Nothing's changed me chase young bills on something. That was a strength but it doesn't that wasn't necessarily a whole and so I sort might exactly like well. What's the okay fine? You're building feature? That's why the trend will use parliament unit. Whatever but that's also why the Kerrigan part is a little confusing to me if we are talking culture clearly that that's a guy you want on your side sets. The tone works hard up until last year. He played every single game of his career. So you know I totally get why you want that Guy. Sort of being somebody could say. `I hocine young man. That's how you'd be a professional. That's how go after. But that said he makes good money and you now have montage sweat. You have chased young in this four three. Imagine all three of those guys are gonNA probably play more four three and then four three outside linebacker. I would guess works by the way you still have Ryan Anderson and some other guys there so I I don't know I mean look on each. I'm sure if we have this subject are real and and river it. Oh it just means you have incredible amount of options and that all holy sounds great. And that's fine but from like a practical matter you know how much you really want. Kerrigan sort of I would say in the way but how much do you want him to taking up space for for sweating young realistically on the last year of his deal? This is probably the rain Carrigan in Washington. I guess maybe not but you know he's not going to get paid the same amount of money again so you know typically that means a guy leaves so I don't know I mean again. This is a fun problem to have the right to have so many guys out on the front seven. It seems to be at a pretty good at the high level. And that'd be great for del Rio and Rivera scheme but on the other hand. Yeah I just don't know if as young comes in and is able to rip it off right away and and sweat who at the end of last year really start to pick it up continues like you know just like it would be the third guy and that's just a lot of money for the third guy but again? I get from the Locker Room veteran perspective y. You would you know. Keep it going with him. Because he's healthy in other ways. I hear what you're saying especially back to to how you got into it. Which is you know. They didn't address any of their obvious needs. I would just my response to that would be. You always have a need for a player of chase young's talent and potential and you know the truth of the matter is I like. I'M A BIG MONTAS SWEAT FAN. I was I liked that. They traded into the first round traded this year. Second to get him Last year to move up to that spot I I think they they have an had and had a need. They have a need and have had need for a dominant pass rusher for decades now and so. I think they fill the need last night. Now there are a lot of other needs that they haven't fulfilled yet and they've got you know the rest of this draft and still potentially opportunities in free agency to do that but I would not. I was not a in favor of trading back and getting a bunch of picks that may have filled. More potential. Needs in passing on a player of his caliber. The Carrigan thing to me yet is it's a head scratcher But I think there's room for him like when people say like Sir. I was asked this morning. Ben Will they got a trade somebody and I said no they don't they don't have to trade anybody and he said well what if they do trade someday said if they trade somebody it's GonNa be drawn pain and by the way I don't WanNa see run pain traded? I think he's got the most upside of anybody on that defensive front that isn't named Chase Young But I think they're just gonNA bring all these guys in you know you have that kind of rotation and if it turns into a you know a an elite defensive front. They're going to be a better football team not to mention that the coaching alone defensively should make him better Last thing what did they do tonight? GimMe a couple of predictions on what they do tonight. Well You know in the Second Round. Pick at this point. They have the sixty six overall picks. That's like the second pick in the third round you know Tight end remains a A need as far as I'm concerned and there hasn't there's no tight ends you get picked. It wouldn't even surprise me if there's no tied in the second round but logically something well one or two. We'll we'll go and that means they can be towards the front of the of the run there at sixty six but you know after we heard from Rivera ten days ago or so. I switched my from that to that they would. They would wait on tight end because the difference between what they can get in the third and fourth round. Probably NOT THAT EXCITING. I think a definite CC from UCLA. Somebody watching the fourth round but that but in Iran like all this receiver deaths. Who's talked about leading into the draft? You know realistically there'll be somebody. There who slips that should have been picked in the second round based on projections and it's still there and that to me. That guy starts right likely good opposite Terry McLaren week one. So it's not just a guy who would be. Oh this'll be good down the line. Let's see what he comes in right away and and and start and I think that would be attractive and I think I I have been thinking. Wait on tackle. You know at a veteran. Somehow DONALD PANIC. Whatever somebody like that to help you with? Haskins more than a third round tackle tackle with me. It's not receiver. Cornerback makes sense. Not only they're still a little bit of need this year but beyond this year. Darby and Monroe or both Asians and you know even with Kendall Fuller. I don't think they have a you. Know a a truly dominant corner. They couldn't afford another one so I I think receiver corner was tied under the three things. I look at it. Sixty six and the other thing is i. Guess if some of the quarterback slipped your Jake froms or Jalen hurts his. You know. Maybe it's an opportunity Detroit down and get some additional picks which could be interesting but if they stay I I feel like boy. Some receiver slides. That'd be pretty enticing. I would think I was GonNa ask you actually. Who's the player right now? That teams are trying to jockey to get up into the early portion of the second round to take. Oh good question Well you know in terms of the guys weren't picked them. People projecting the I mean. There's a few cornerback. Still there. Jaylen JOHNSON FROM UTAH. Trayvon Digs Alabama. You know They're they're still pretty good corner depth overall but a bunch went yesterday. So you want one. You know if you're in the middle of the back of the second round you may need to move up up. There's not many edge. Pass rushers his draft and grows mottos from Penn state spell out of the first round and and You know I as Cleveland from Boise State. One of those guys. That kind of blew up mind offensive. Tackle some some scattered big fan but you know others are others are and he could be. You know what? What was it? six Was it six tackles. Seventy six tackles went in the first round last night and the and the thought was between Josh Jones. And as Cleveland after that this thing really drops of you want to tackle you better. Go get one of those guys so I think you know I think that could be another areas. Well I don't know if everybody's clamoring to move up to get a second to get Jacobson from Jalen hurts but quarterback slapped. I check pretty important. So if somebody has a hankering that that could be the way to go as well Xavier mckinney's. They're in the safety from Bam. A lot of people had him in the first round. You know who coolly told me. Yes on Wednesday on the podcast. I forget if I told you this or not. He said Kohl commits a first round. Pick and I said well. Nobody's mocking him in the first. He said I don't really care. I'm just telling you he's better than Tj Hopkinson from last year. He's better than Noah fant from last year and he's better from her than IRV. Smith went in the second round last year he goes. I know the position I value I. I've watched all of them. And he goes Cole. Commit should be a first rounder. And I said okay. Well I'll write down something less than a first down in hold you to it and we said you know early second. I think is what we said and he was comfortable with that. The funny thing is literally yesterday on Kuypers final mock draft. I finally saw Cole commit in the first round. You know he was up there to Green Bay thirty so I think he's got a chance to go early in the second round. I'm going to throw out something that maybe you'll agree with because maybe you also said something about him. Recently I think Jalen hurts is a quarterback that teams think. Highly of like. I think he's the next quarterback to go in front of Frahm in front of e Sin. You know anybody else that I'm forgetting there And it wouldn't surprise me if somebody you know in that early portion of of the you know maybe the first five to ten picks of tonight's draft of Jalen.

"At the reason why it was so stunning when I heard this was when I looked at various the public boards he was being projected in like the late second at the earliest maybe third maybe fourth whatever and so his numbers and production in college work very impressive so you know I it you know. Is this a tape thing? This one of those things where if we had a normal pro day than normal visits he would have been more that first round the conversation publicly and we didn't know that maybe but I talking to some people. We didn't see that so I think that one was a surprise As far as the best value goes I mean I thought Justin Jefferson was moving up. I Bet Minnesota may have been a little surprised that he was still there for them to getting again especially with the Eagles taking receiver at twenty one. So I think he's a very interesting one. I don't know if the best value I heard some people questioned something's about CD lamb but there's a lot to like there as well from a physical package the grass aggressive receiver that he lives in Dallas. Where they've already got Amari. Cooper Zeki alias Dak Prescott Michael Gallup's pretty good. I mean you know weapon. Top a weapon now like like a precipitous. Drop for him but the fact he landed on that team could be a pretty interesting scenario if he is You know he's got his he he. He's got his game together his life together. He's writing for the pros mature. Wise than I I think that could be a pretty fascinating situation here for Dial Yeah. I think I agree with you on Jefferson. I think judy you know going to Denver at fifteen. That's a great pick for them. You know it's funny. I looked at I don't know a week ago. I found a mock from basically after you know over the summer last year and Judy was somewhere in the top. Two top five. But you know who else was was Andrew Thomas and until last night a lot of people thought he was going to be the third tackle off the board. Maybe the fourth But I thought I I thought that Jefferson was really good value for Minnesota at twenty two In there was one other one I think when you like I I think if you watch Patrick Queen play you realize that the the actual fit with the team like a perfect one and there was a chance. He was going to go before twenty-eight overall but I think that's a really good match with Baltimore a hundred percent I went back and looked at A mock draft is dated January and Queen to Jack Tween the Baltimore Henderson Jacksonville. Kim. All Lisa highly probable. Pick for the niners in like know. It's your time it's like going back even a little bit further like he looked at the end of last year. When we knew the Redskins we're going to be you know a top five pick. Every time gotten a lot of us. We're talking about because we knew that turned Williams is likely gone and he was a guy and then you know as is often the case. Will you know as you get through the off season you know? The rumor mill runs wild. And maybe because he's safe not spectacular and he was also the guy that everybody was talking about he got it somewhat ignored whereas some of these other tackles got that pushed up the ultimate. Only you know it's a limited last four months of noise. Nobody would've been surprised injury. Thomas was not only the first hackel picked by the top five pick. Yeah exactly all right back to chase young in some of the reporting from the post Carpenter suggesting that two teams in particular work in trying to move up We believe one was Atlanta. You know the other one he said was offering picks in a player who wanted to be traded. I just guessed that that was Jacksonville and in Gakugei would you guess the same thing based on that description sure I mean obviously if you prefer objectives perspective you know giving the Redskins and other pass rusher in getting one but we're getting in return You know again I hear always funny to me and and it took me a long time in. Life is sort of realize this but when when when we're all most rumors that are most topics of conversation sports have nothing to do with the teams that we know instantly because there's no thirty two teams in the NBA and all that stuff and think you're these rumors and the ad side like. Wow that's whatever. I can't believe the team is doing that or thinking that or why would you take it sort of face value of the you know the reporting is what it is but then wonder reporting spins back your way? I think I learned during the RG three air when people were getting upset. That KIRK COUSINS IS GONNA. Start and you're like. Are you serious? Are you watching? What are you talking about? Who would who think this is insane only people from the outside being fed narratives? That are three superman and so to that end the last two months that we've heard of that this oh they're gonNA take to where they're going to trade out all these things. I'm not saying it was a negative percents chance but I literally don't think I heard like one person the whole time. Say to me. Oh walk out. They're going to try them. I mean nobody who was like you'll sort of truly local in the no reasonable not just throwing stuff up at a wall so I don't I and Ron Rivera comments last night to the media. Were pretty firm. He was like yeah. We weren't we weren't doing anything we will. We do villages. I guess. Of course we're we're going to look at. Why wouldn't we whatever the this is what we have to do with the insane? It would not do that. And that's all that's all they did. He did say one thing I thought was interesting. He said that they decided to have a certain impact level player and they it was only three guys the draft who fit that description run then press name the other ones will will get. Berle is one. He he passed on that. So it's interesting to sort of wonder WHO's at third guys that they actually think to a was that? Guy I think it was Okuda and the reason I think that is in the less carpenter piece. The redskins apparently would have only considered a deal. If they would have had a chance to get Okuda if they didn't get young so I think it was. Jeff Okuda coming was borough. I think he's either when he made the statement. Revere made the statement. There were three impact players in this draft. I think it was borough young and Okuda and again the I'll read you the line from less carpenters piece One Yeah one of the teams is offering picks and a top player. The redskins coveted The player that the redskins coveted most after young was Ohio state corner. Jeff Okuda and the team may have been more open to a trade if it was assured of Landing Okuda after trading back. So I think that that was the third guy which by the way surprises me. I mean I watch. I watched a bunch of Okuda stuff. I think he's good. I actually think. Cj Henderson's a better playmaker. But whatever. I mean it's it's so hard. What do we know I always find it? You know it's funny the way you were describing sort of reporting and I agree with you on everything you said I always find it interesting at you know and by the way I throw myself into this category but there there's a difference in all explain it. I always find it interesting when I listened to people who I know couldn't give two shits about college football and they're just NFL. You know diva tastes. And that's all they watch in. That's what they you know. Their whole world revolves revolves around. And we get to the week leading up to the draft and they're absolutely definitive in their opinions about certain players and they didn't watch college football year. That happens every year but by the way it really doesn't matter because the people that watch every single snap of every game and then watch the coaches film. Get it wrong. Sixty five percent of the time too but I I that always that always cracks me up to hear a lot of media members that I know. Don't watch in in our interested in college football. I always have strong opinions on players that I watched as a fan. You Watch you know Saturday football too and I watch it as much as I watched the. Nfl that's why you know. I'll have strong opinions on guys which I'll be wrong more than half the time on but added at first round. I Love Chase Young. I Love Joe Borough I love Love Derrick Brown and I really love Justin Jefferson. You know the the Jordan love thing. I'm surprised Green Bay did it. I don't know why they did it. I don't know why somebody wouldn't look at Aaron Rodgers and think at thirty six. He's got a minimum of four years left and at that point if he's still playing at a high level you know you've got the fifth year option on love but but then he's going to have to start on that option year and you're going to get to see what you have i. I was surprised by that. Yeah you know in terms of like the mock draft you know one of the ultimate goal you know every focus on getting the Mac of the player in the team you know the the the the main goal for me is trying to figure out what thirty two players will be in the first round and then figure out from there and I had Jordan love in the first round pretty much the whole time until the very end and the part of the reason I drop them in the end. You know you some questions about where where he would del but also was like he's going to make it into the twenties and when you look at those teams that are picking their of course somebody could trade from outside of the first round back in but looking at those teams. Why would New Orleans or Green Bay two teams that are contenders who in Green Bay was in the NFC championship game? The saints easily could have been in the Super Bowl. Things have gone their way. Why would you think valuable first round pick on a quarterback when they have needs could help them? You know this guy can help them. You'll get there right now and Green Bay did that and I really wonder how that's going to go over there and rodgers but I also think man they never want to get this guy help receiver and they have opportunity last night to do that. Or whatever take any kind of position and instead I I mean look what was you know. I'm sure people probably made the exact same argument fifteen years ago. Or whatever when they took Aaron Rodgers. Of course Rogers was projected to be like the first pick of the draft and slid all the way down to this twenty twenty four. And that's at the difference in this so You know I don't know what we'll see. Jordan turned out to the obviously always need quarterbacks. You gotta be on the lookout but man. I think I'd WanNa do whatever I could to maximize Aaron Rodgers for long that. I forgot to make that distinction. It's it's a really important one is that Rogers was falling in green bay took Rogers with their pick in this particular case. They traded up to take a guy that may not have gone in the first round Which you know essentially tells you how much they really like him by the way one other quick thing on the first round. I'm not surprised and I think I told you this yesterday. Dj that that swift was not the first runningback taken. And I love Edwards Hilar- and I love Dobbins too and I think we're GONNA see a lot of running backs come off the board Um tonight in the second round..

"Yeah and and I think you know in a season of crazy stuff that happened last year the out to me the most being in that locker room and Trent Williams showing up for one day on loading on that organization in such a way. That your your people who work in that building and yes the the attention. He focused on mostly at Bruce Allen and the former trainer who known either one of them are there other people work in that building. I mean it's such a bizarre look and you can't. You can't put that toothpaste back in the tube. The other teammates saw this happen. They know what he's thinking so Well you know it just seems like it would be really hard for people in that building outside of the locker room and if you're very it's it's a sort of have this in their unless there's a real turnaround and you know. I thought there would have been a chance for sure once Eric on board based on his reputation the yeah he really gets along with his players and then you know pretty quickly on. It became apparent turns. Turns like no no I still. I still nothing change for me. I still WANNA I still want. Outta here especially I assume since even gill. He's the the money matters frame it terms of the redskins anymore. So get he wants. I. I'm with you I think I wonder if the owners like. Hey you know we're not we're not keeping him figure this out somehow good way for us and And that's it would be great if they can work it out because it would actually help everybody involved except for you know trying to Williams wouldn't be getting an extension and you know at his age with his injuries. I mean ultimately that is what he wants is more security which. I don't blame them before. But you know. I don't think that's going to be coming from Washington Last last thing on him and Ben Standing is joining us here on the show and that is you know ultimately you know if he really felt like this was a stand that was principled and he felt like he needed to take Well then good on him But ultimately this was a disaster for him financially He could easily come in last year. More likely than not figured out a way to get himself on injured reserve justifiably after the multiple surgeries that he had on his head Wouldn't have lost a penny wouldn't have you know created the ill will both ways His agent did himself Did his client a disservice year especially recently when he went public with. You know the redskins are changing their tune on offers and they've they've been able to generate enough offers clearly. That was not true. They may have generated offers but not offers that the redskins were willing to accept. You know I think the Redskins had they gotten a second rounder or an approximate thereof two-thirds. Or you know a third of fourth in a next year's to whatever I think they would have taken it and run with it. They obviously didn't get that in the agent was either being really really Sort of misleading or just overall disingenuous When it came to those public conversations about it but anyway I think you'll get traded this weekend. Still but after last night the odds for me have increased Back to where they were a month ago in that is I'd give it a twenty percent chance that he doesn't get traded. Wa- I mean the only thing I will say like I is to to sort of go back to the Asian point like in terms of last year. I I definitely think that his handle it wrong. There was no po- I mean to me. They should have been early on publicly stating I want to hear and make the put the pressure themselves not leave it up to the Angelo Hall or other random rumors. Trey Williams genuinely didn't want to upset Dan Snyder. I I think he respects him enough and it had a strong relationship. He really was hopeful that it could go a different way but that to me when you had to have made the point. That's when because there was that's when they had some leverage To to do it or before the trade deadline after that in common sense. I mean there's there's a little too late again I will say to to this year though. We know how rumors get out there. We have never one time heard a real rumor that said that the Redskins team ex- put you know have had sort of terms on for a deal they would get the rights third-round round contra a third round pick and now it's up to try and William Negotiate a contract. I don't think it was out there and I think that is effectively. What the agent was sort of saying? I just don't think that like you know whether whether his side older we agreed to money with some team that that he's claiming I mean. Obviously I don't know that. But that's what they are claiming that they found reasonable terms and I mean you said that to me that they've found some you know somebody who's willing to give them what they want effectively but that the redskins are the ones sort of holding it back but whatever it is Yeah I mean I. I think I hear everything working sort of on the Redskins side. I guess because of this. Covert nineteen situation. We have no idea. What are you going to say about him physically? No going to say that like you'll normally right now. There would be a russell. Hurry this up. There's not as right right. They don't do anything right now. He there nobody's in the building. It it will not go for that but for for every other teams and other teams are going to want. Hey we want the left tackle here to start getting work well. Nothing's happening so to that. End Times on a redskin side but yeah it'd be just the again the the the the places they could send him that number drops significantly last night. Yeah look again. There could be that random team that has a another player at a position that we're just not thinking about trade your salary for Trent Williams. You WanNa do it and you know just warbucks that'd be kind of a trade but like you know maybe it's the heck with let's get what we can get and you know and and long. I just hope we're spending too much time on this but it seems like it happens all the time. And Tommy made this point yesterday on the podcast and that is this is a more interesting and debated conversation because in and I said well. That's because the chase young pick was sort of such a lock like there it. You know. That's what was going to happen. So we focused to all the reporting the last couple of days about Trent. But you know the bottom line is you know. They should have been actively trying to trade him. You know the the Charles the the Robinson report from Yahoo that the browns were willing to offer first-round pick you know early in the season. They you know in the Redskins may have at the very eleventh hour before the trade deadline. started to think about trading him they never actively made them available. We'll never know what they really could have gotten other than the reporting that the browns were gonNA offer I and some of the other things I think logic dictates that Houston could have been a a a significant trade possibility for them but they blew it. A you know regardless of the disagreement that you and I have over whatever it is that they would have gotten. They would have gotten more than they're probably going to end up getting had they been more aggressive and less petty and less stubborn on this situation. You think you would hurt I. I'd heard like a not for but I still heard like a second and I you know I mean. Look if they'll be offer them a third right now they could run to run and grab Don. I don't WanNA third. I'd rather him play for a year for them. They left tackle need but again. I don't know I I do know that there are people in the front office. That WANNA see him gone but I but I also feel the same time. It would benefit the organization to pass on taking a third or fourth in having played for a year. You know I just I do especially at this point. I mean if the deal doesn't come until the weekend then it's a next year pick anyway but whatever. Let's get back to the I want to I. I've got a couple of other chase young related Questions for you but before we do that in that first round last night what do you think the biggest reach was and what what did you think the best pick you know. The best value pick was in the first round. You know the cornerback. After you got from Jeff Okuda and see Henderson into the next handful of guys. It wouldn't have been surprised. Whoever was the next cornerback off the board? You could've named guys..

"No is the heavy favorite minus two hundred yeses plus one fifty What do you think the tackles going to the teams that were potential trade partners with the Redskins? There're others and I mentioned Minnesota. I wouldn't be surprised if Denver somehow got involved Garrett Bowles stinks even though he was a first rounder You know maybe there's another team of Seattle or somebody like that. But what do you think happened to? Trade Trent Williams is trade Situation last night Sort of the point. I was making before about all the all the noise again. What did we hear leading into the last couple of days at the draft all this tweets and stuff about Trent Williams that something could happen soon? I believe I saw for shortly. I believe I saw a tweet from a national reporter and just buzz and it was like the the deepest part of redskins twitter without th. There's a deal happening. Somebody reporting it and I'm like I've been saying for a month. I'm not saying this is based on like talking to deep inside Redskins Park. I'm going with logic point to trade. Tell me where somebody giving the Redskins if they're really holding out for a second round pick. Who's making that deal? I haven't been able to figure that out for two months because I don't think it exists and I still maintain that tastic if I'm wrong for the Redskins perspective and today we find out that somebody's willing to give them a second or third round. Pick even a third round pick to me. I mean I. I've been saying this a while to hear would go ahead. They make make the deal electric negotiate through this. If you have to deal then go ahead. I don't think that's happening and now even more. So yeah like you said Cleveland the jets Tampa Bay all three of those teams were. At least you'll linked at least in terms of head this team. He's a tackle case the Tampa Bay. Maybe they're willing to go all in because at the time br anything. Let's make a deal and then all three of those teams take tackle. La- last night the only so you would think logically that all those around the only positive. I would say that that happened was at Minnesota and other team that is in that mix and maybe something of an all in team because they're close to being a You know to the Super Bowl that they've made a trade down last night acquiring I think. Fourth and fifth round pick or third and fourth some variants from San Francisco and Minnesota. I believe now has two thirds to fourth to fifth. They've twelve six left yet in total. Yeah so if they want to Williams. Let's put the salary cap part aside for a second if they want him. That's enough munition to figure out how to do that. For four to five three and a four whatever the the okay zehr problem though. Is the salary cap. I think the only because a little over twelve million dollars available they would probably I mean? I don't know the situation enough. Maybe there's some things maneuvering they can do to create the money but they might have to say we'll give you some a pick or two but you have to take back. Riley reese contract their current tackle. He makes about. He's on the books like thirteen million dollars That that's not I mean. I don't think he's that exciting. But look they're gonNA have a a a an obvious left tackle. So that's about as toddlers. I can get as to what happened to the Redskins last night. The Minnesota maybe more stuff to play with. I mean I. I reported way back when. That's the cardinals. Were teen kicking tires. They didn't take tackle last night's maybe they still get interested in terms of it from Tyler. Tyler Murray perspective but you know there he paid. Dj Humphries their current left tackle. Some good money to stay this off season. I don't know if they're the type of team that wants thirty. You know thirty something. Trent Williams so The chargers where another team he thought. Okay well maybe big then they trade their second and third round pick seem to move back into the I would seem logical that they have probably lost a as well so You know I think the Redskins it took a hit and and like I said I'm not surprised in the sense that I don't see what teams are trading up like the the team bailed on her didn't bail and taking a tackle in the first round for for for trying to doesn't feel like I suppose right now this morning suggesting well. I still hope they can get a second. I mean okay. I hope you're right but I haven't seen how that's possible. Wherever the Minnesota things interesting because Riley reiff is a guy first of all that played better last year in Rick. Spielman said the other day we liked the way he played last year. They've had some issues along that offensive line over the last couple of years but he played pretty well Ah last year And there would be if he were included as part of the trade. He's under contract next year and the year after At roughly thirteen million bucks per year. So they'd save six seven million if they traded him. And then you know. Now now they're up to you. Know somewhere in the neighborhood of eighteen million cap space in than they could extend Trenton get his number lower for this year and probably make it work. I don't know what they're gonNA do with Anthony Harrison that tag. They need them. Desperately with all of the coroner's they let go In free agency I mean it. Was you know one after another? I don't think they they're gonNa Miss Xavier Rhodes at all But Mackenzie Alexander and I'm forgetting the other corner That went to the free agency as well but rather the Corner Jeff Gliding last night you did they drafted. They drafted gladly. I'm just trying to think they lost the Minnesota lost three corners in free agency. They lost roads. They lost They lost Alexander and trains. Trains trains was the other one. So you're not to mention that. They lost Lindvall. Joseph they lost Right now Griffin's not under contract They still have one of the best pass rushers in the game in hunter. And they've got bar and they've got kendricks and they've got Anthony Harris who they tagged along with Harrison Smith. But you know there's been some talk about them letting Anthony Harris may be go maybe rescinding that you know. Maybe Harris could become a part of a trade You know that he is a big time free safety and he would look great next to Landon Collins You know much more so than I think. Sean Davis would but anyway I think the net of it is that and I don't WanNa get into the back and forth that you and I have had over the last several months. The bottom line is the redskins by not making him available much. Sooner much longer ago this was always the risk if they had any vision looking forward to the twenty twenty draft that it was a draft that most people thought had a ton of tackles in the draft especially in the first part You know the early portion of the draft in you know by continuing by being petty by being stubborn Stupid really in my view They put themselves into this position personally and pull out and I shared with everybody with the poll was early this morning. And I took calls on this on the show I think the chances of Trent Williams coming back or or somewhere in one in four. I still think they'll trade him and I bet they ended up trading him to Minnesota weekend. But if it doesn't happen I asked the question. Would you as a fan except him back? Would you WANNA back sixty two percent? Say Yeah bring him back. They've left tackle need. He's gotTa play. Ben There's no practical way he can hold out again. His career is over if he holds out again. So yeah he he he. He definitely needs a practical matter. A lot lesser. You know millions of dollars. He didn't get and you can't just you know make that up some simple on up My only thing and this is what I've just come back from sure. I said yesterday on the radio or previously with you is that you know it's to me when I look at the chess game here. All Rhode Island Rivera has preached A. You know almost about everything else. If he wants to reshape the culture of this place he wants guys will all aim. I mean that's partly why they moved. He said he move Quinton Dunbar as quick as it did for essentially little as they did. They're holding on the turn. Liam's more because trampolines is a much more valuable assets but at the end of the day. If you're really trying to reach eight this whole thing even trying to Williams is not a bitter pill in the locker. Do you really WANNA guy in there. Who clearly doesn't want to be there. I just think that if you're around year one of this thing at just I don't want that situation on my locker I wanted over with and the reality is like you said this is the salt ultimately what happened last year with has nothing to do with round where he can easily whether he wouldn't probably saved himself but he easily just painted on and look. I. We inherited this situation. It should before You know it is what it is and and you know we thought we needed to move on and get a fresh start because we're about the feature not about the past and this situation represents that I I will say the one thing I saw and may we'll find out probably the more in the history of this overtime but based on what we've heard is what I've heard of just what Rivera said publicly. He didn't really start reaching out to any players until early February. And I really Kinda wonder it will. Why you don't Recap Trent Williams Specifically Week. One of getting higher justice. Glad we talk he look. I got to figure out where my office is. Where the bathroom is I? I got something I need to figure out. You're on the list. Obviously we want to see what we can do with you one way or the other off. But but that was the one part I don't know why they waited. 'cause feel that didn't help us which. I think it also like I I I have. I have a belief that the what I'm going to say could work but I just don't know whether or not organizationally they want it to work. And I've laid it out already in the PODCASTS. And before but you know at some point it's like Hey Trent look. We couldn't get what we wanted for you. The you know the problem that you had with the organization Bruce Allin Larry has at Cetera. They're gone talk to anybody about me. might players really respect me like me? GimMe a shot. We need a left tackle. Were not going to trade. You were not going to do that. For a fourth rounder. Or you know a third and fourth and a conditional something you know based on use signing with another whatever it is. We're not doing that. You need to play and will offer you. You know What will make you the following offer that we won't franchise tag you. After the twenty twenty season similar to Seattle did with cloudy. I know it's different but give us a shot. We'll give you a shot. You need to play. You need to get that contract next year after playing in Twenty Twenty. We need a left tackle you know? Let's shake hands and make best efforts over the next nine ten months and Together and then we won't franchise tag you. My problem with that is that I do know you know and I've mentioned this before that. It wasn't his teammates. Love him they. He's respected but there are people in the Front Office of this organization. That felt betrayed. That are still angry to the state and it went beyond Bruce. Allin being angry and to your point. If there's this culture change you know that that he's more dialed in on. You know he may ultimately say you know what this wasn't my problem. You know I I. I'm trying to change things I need to move on from a guy that doesn't want to be here. No by the way some people that I work for maybe the owner and maybe a couple of other people. They don't really want him here either. So that that's what I'm that's what I would be concerned about because I do think that you know. It could work from day to day standpoint if he ended up playing here. He's not GonNa be a guy that's going to cause a huge disruption when he has to play well to get a contract next.

"Dc THAT STAMPS DOT COM Kevin D. C. I. Let's bring in Ben Standing from the athletic Love talking to Ben. About this football team and about other things in town Follow Ben on twitter at Ben. Standing and right now subscribe to the athletic. You've got a free opportunity during this pandemic to get what I've been getting for a while. Which is Ben Standi covering The Washington redskins and a lot of other good writers locally covering local teams. But your chance right now to try out the athletic for free during This pandemic I would urge you to do so so most of you know if you follow Ben or if you listen to him on. Various radio stations including mine were on this. Show on the PODCAST. The Ben was the reigning Mock draft champion national mock draft champion heading into The draft last night. He laid out his entire first round. Mock with me on the radio. Show yesterday And you know he's he's been matched up against some of the best. Daniel Jeremiah Evan Silva You know it's A lot of these guys who have been really good at doing this and he won it last year so I do know because I had your mock draft and you laid it out for me yesterday I I do know that last night didn't go as well for you as a year ago did. Where did you finish last night? actually don't know the place wasn't it wasn't one of the top so I mean ultimately I think if the purpose of the contest I got six exactly right then. It was a weird. It was a weird night from me from a certain perspective and that because dealing with the Redskins Chase. Young and the coaching staff didn't talk until the end towards the end of the first round and I I sort of lost my way focusing on what was happening towards the basically the last handful of picks for a bunch of you know surprise players guys out on the Komo Lotta people had picked in the first round. So Yeah I don't know the exact place but it definitely was more towards the middle bottom than it was the number one you to help you out with where you were care You you finish in a tie for sixty ninth however this is more important. There's a five year average of finishes and you are third overall and this is out of. I don't know every bit of seventy five to one hundred guys that are that are tracked here so your five year running average you are number three overall behind forest long the huddle report and Ryan McMahon Crystal from draft But your of guys like Kevin Silva and I'm looking through landseer line from NFL. Dot Com Daniel Jeremiah who you know. Many people thought had a chance to become an NFL general manager of last year. So you are ahead of a lot of those guys Last night overall. What did you make before we get to all the redskins stuff you know? What were you most blown away with? In the first round in terms of the way it played out And what were you you know sort of? Did you feel like you were spot on like did you have one of your mock? Pixie? You're most proud of or not sure. Can I? Can I use my inside baseball like in terms of like the process? Like wh why for me. Sometimes things work sometimes things. Don't yes please. So I guess it's common for a Lotta people but like for me. Like knowledge is confidence. The more I feel like I know something the more confident I am in whatever it is whether I'm talking about you know my day to day job Conversation about I don't know politics women the redskins whatever. The thing is if the more confident I the more I think I know because I studied in all these things the better I think I am And last year when I did this thing and it was an NBC sports Washington. You know they had me do. I approve of twenty mock drafts You know from January on and I was doing them like every other week for a while but in the last few months probably every week I was really like into a good rhythm within here at the athletic as as you know having because part of the reason why you and I started talking on the radio was like I kind of listen to this doing the national mock draft for us because we have a guy named ruler does it and and that's just kind of his thing and I'm on the Redskins so I wasn't like going through the regular day to day process previous. You're like every day doing a mock when you and I were talking on the radio I was fiddling with it wasn't like I didn't have deadlines to do so. None of this is an excuse but my only point is that the previous year. I really felt locked in because I was a repetition. I really felt I could point to the places on the board where I felt confident and could sort of Sift through the noise. It'll be easier because you could sort of see. The rumors for this year is just a little bit different for me and I think I probably ultimately let some of the noise Get to me a little bit more In terms of letting you know rumors Kind of kind of go with like where where you think things are. ARE GONNA go out So in terms of what was this pride. I mean you got rattled. Man you're shooting free throws against the xfinity center wall you know late in the game you got tight you just want. You just told us that you chokes a little bit this year. You let it get. Do that happens with when you when you win a championship in your your expected to defend it in the circumstances are a little bit different. You know I'll play more games on the road this year. You know that. I definitely definitely didn't definitely didn't show but like for example about you're saying like what am I most proud of for example You Know Jay GonNa Rieger at twenty one to the eagles. Had I had that I would get a lot of people didn't have that now. Why did I have that? I mean I don't know. I complete the process like I sort of heard that the eagles had some interesting. I have you told me to Justin. Jefferson was still on the board. I definitely would not have put June Rieger to yield. I would've thought that would have been not possible but in terms of like you know again sort of sifting through what made sense what the Eagles wanted wanted speech Jangle rigors one of those guys and so I made that call and that one work Jordan Brooks getting picked by Seattle. I reported I didn't put it in my locker. I reported ten days ago. Two weeks ago that he was the legitimate first round contender even though people mocking him. I'm sorry I big boards had a mike late second into the third and fourth round. So that wasn't that was heard and I wish I put it in the mock draft and and and and and didn't somebody pointed that you know there is a lot of noise and just some years I just feel I don't know for me at least like you know the more. I do it the more often than I feel and this year but some of the things that has happened and I just Kinda I dunno. Look let let let the whispers dictating more but look. The same thing happened the year before I took. I mentioned to you on the radio yesterday that I went with. I felt pretty good about going with Chris. Lindstrom to the Falcons in the middle of the first round similar to re grounding people if anybody had that but that worked and that's how they I mean yeah if I switched I had Two and and herber going back to back the wrong order. If I do that then I look better. And it is what it is To to your point the overall draft I mean I think the top half of the first round. I think what surprised me? This is my point of the noise. Because what did we hear in the days leading up to the draft? Oh there's going to be a big run on tackles all these teams are trying to move up three and four through all this talk about their moving up to Moving up for Herbert Right and you know all these things being reported nothing happened. None of these. Things unfolded to the point that I saw after at one point last night tweets that nobody even offered the the lines and the giants anything officially at three and four and stuff like that. I'm saying like how could it be that we have someone breathless reporting and then nothing happens and that that part I think was. Broadly was surprising to me. I was expecting more more stuff happening in the top of the drafted ultimately. Nothing happened And I think through some things off A little bit. Yeah I you know. First of all Thomas. Getting picked there was a bit of a surprise because more people were thinking were or wills donor so so that point like again like I wrote a rumors thing for the athletic a week ago. Give or take in that report. I I have in there that I had had a general manager told me. He thought that worth casted special but wasn't special and simultaneously thought that Thomas was the best player was the best tackle on the board And so like it's one of those but like you know it's to that point everybody in their mock draft had worse and will I had. Somebody told me the day before the draft or the day before I had fish turning my mock draft. That worth was like a very. They felt very confident. Worse to the giants was GonNa Happen. I mean obviously that is like you know that that that was a weird perspective. Not The position. Obviously but I think ultimately Thomas was his deemed the safest guy. I'm assuming that's why. Get them and went. Went over the other guys I couple of things that I mentioned about the first round first of all I think. Derek Brown's GonNa be a great player. I think he's GonNa be one of those players we look back on and these are all guesses I mean. Even the experts get most of these things wrong. I just loved watching him as a college player. But you know as it relates to the redskins and Trent Williams when we got to ten and we started to get into that part of the draft where there were teams that were potential trade partners with the Redskins. It was really amazing to see. All of those teams go tackle. Cleveland wills junior the jets Becht in Tampa spot even though they don't really have much cap space but they take worth and then. Austin Jackson goes to southern Goes to Goes to the dolphins at eighteen overall That was really interesting and I think you know. Look it's simple economics you know when there isn't as much demand as there was you know the price you know the price drops I mean. More demand would've been a better situation for the redskins. Somebody just sent this to me. Actually Erin just sent this to me bed online right now odds on whether Trent Williams will be traded today. Oh this is for today.

"Went to the aligns at number three and that the skins may have been more open to a trade if it could have been assured that it would have landed. Okuda after moving back now. The Reliance Drafted Okuda with the next pick. So the Redskins weren't going to be in position to trade back unless it was with Detroit and Still Get Okuda Overall and Rivera address this In his Conference call his zoom call last night with Kyle Smith after After the after the first round of the draft that it really wasn't close that there wasn't really a package that entice them to move off of of Off of chase young. I'm thrilled about chase young. I'm glad they didn't trade back. I think they've got a great defensive front. I think there's GonNa be a couple of interesting things about that defensive front to keep in mind you know with pain. Alan and I notice in by the way Alan and I notice in particular being versatile. Either one of them can can move outside and four three. You've got sweat on one end chase young on another. You've also got. Let's not forget Ryan Kerrigan still currently in the mix you know. So how this gets handled most teams play with the rotation. You don't just play four guys. You need five sometimes six during the course of the season and they do have a guy like settle even a guy like Kayla Brantley who can play but I was asked a question earlier this morning on on the radio show. Do I think the red skins are going to make a trade? Are they going to unload any of their defensive linemen because they seem to have too many? My answer to that is no. I don't think they will. I think sweat pain Alan Ionitsis and chase young are gonNA fit into basically a five man rotation with four spots. I didn't Carrigan fits in there somewhere. I'm not sure where yet. But you know Carrigan would probably be a six guys part of of the rotation I would think on third down passing situations. It's young and sweat on the ends and a guy like Alan and I notice in the in the interior if they did trade. Somebody and I don't want him to do this. I think it would be drawn pain I think they love Alan. He's perfect for the culture. I and Itis the same pains upside for me is high as anybody's other than chase young's he's freakish athletically. I think pains got a chance to be a dominant dominant interior. Linemen with that said you know I sense that maybe a guy like Alan. I might be more Rivera kinds of guys but I don't think they're gonNA trade anybody I think they're gonNA figure this thing out and you'll end up with you. Know certainly six guys including Kerrigan. I would think I'm not positive about that For those four spots. I'm excited about About Ryan to you. Know behind that defensive front. I thought he was the most improved player on the team last year. And we'll see about Thomas Davis and coal holcomb and Jon Bostick and Reuben Foster and Shawn Deehan Hamilton. The redskins have a good front four excellent front for their front seven. Not Bad. They've added. Sean Davison Kendall Fuller to go with Landon. Collins we understand the secondary you know perhaps lack of depth if not lack of starters but the redskins better by drafting chase young. You know that in combination obviously with a new coaching staff. I'm excited about them. Defensively the biggest surprise about the twenty twenty season if it gets played and if it gets played you know in a full season would be if this team isn't significantly significantly improved defensively. I Ben Standing coming up.

"I put out a poll this morning on twitter on my twitter account at Kevin Sheehan DC. I'm just about an hour ago actually Before I started to record the PODCASTS. Simple question if the redskins are unable to get what they want for Trent Williamson a trade. Would you accept him back? Would you want him back? You know I've got two thousand votes already on this poll and sixty two point three percent of you say yes. Thirty seven point seven percent of the people that have responded have said No. I think that's interesting because I think many people believe what I believe which is number one. Don't trade him unless you get what you want. And what he is worth all right. Now you can say well. The market dictates what he's worth. That's true to a point but we understand what kind of player he is. He's not a fourth round player. You know the money that was reported that he was looking for should have made very clear to him. And his agent that the Redskins aren't going to take a fourth rounder or a third or a third and a fifth. You know that's not going to happen. It shouldn't happen. Maybe ultimately will if they decide they want to move on from it. Maybe they were hopeful that this weekend something would pan out and they would be able to get what they racking. My position remains the same. You don't get at least a second round pick. I would go to him as cool eah suggested and say Trent. Let's LET BYGONES BE BYGONES. Bruce Allen's gone Larry Hess's Gone Ron Ron Kyle and I are running this ship. Were good people. We've got a good coaching staff. You'RE GONNA love my offensive line coach. You should be playing the only way you get a contract. Next year is to play this year. We will give you one. You know One one incentive to do so in that is we will commit to not franchise tagging you next year. But let's play we need. We have a need. You have a need to play you. Don't WANNA lose the money we don't WanNA pay out some of it without you being a part of the team in who knows maybe at the end of this year. You'll find that you like us and we really like you and we might work something out with you anyway. Down the road I would do that I would do that if I don't get the right offer back I would definitely accept him back. It would not be a problem. I just don't buy into the whole disruption thing I do buy into the culture change and perhaps Ron Rivera saying ultimately. I don't want somebody who doesn't WANNA be here. No matter how talented he is and the circumstances that were in there not my fault. This was the previous regime. That that's the really messed it up But I need to move on. I WANNA get my guys in here. He may come to that conclusion and they may end up dealing for a fourth or you know a fourth and a conditional something next year But I would not Trade Trent unless I got at least a second rounder. So back to the draft And the first round last night couple of interesting things in addition to the offensive linemen run in what that did in it how it impacted the redskins. The wide receiver run started with a receiver. That really wasn't mock drafted to be the first taken. Charley casserly thought that there was a big difference between Jerry. Judy and CD lamb. And the next wrung down There was somebody else who was on my radio show in the last week. It may have been Tony. Pauline from pro football weekly Who essentially agreed with that as well will henry. Rugs was the first wide receiver taken at number. Twelve overall. Went to the raiders. Such a raiders. Pick right rugs. A four to seven forty guy. It's as if Al Davis from his grave made the pick he loves deep speed and rugs really is a dynamic explosive playmaking wide receiver. If I were a raider fan would I preferred lamb or judy may be. I may have preferred Jefferson. Even more but I- rugs has a chance to be really really good The next wide receiver was Judy. Who WENT TO DENVER? You know Denver now going with drew lock. And they've added a key piece in that sort of fell into their lap. I don't know that Denver was expecting Jerry Judy in the same way. Dallas at seventeen CD lamb fell into their lap. You know there had been talk about a defensive end to pass rusher you know a corner a couple of other things but CD lamb. Was there now. The cowboys have Amari Cooper and CD land And then you got What ben standing predicted in his final mock draft on the radio show yesterday he said Philadelphia Loves Jalen regular the receiver from TCU. He regular wasn't a lock. First Round Guy wasn't mocked by everybody's a first round guy I love. Rigor got to watch him a lot as I watch. Tcu football over the last couple of years phenomenal punt returner And the Eagles loved him too and they took him before Jefferson. Justin Jefferson was on the board and incredible contributor at at Lsu and that left it For Minnesota to basically take the pick they got from buffalo in the digs trade. They took Justin Jefferson. The interesting interesting thing about Jefferson. Minnesota's both Jefferson and Phelan are more slot guys. So it'll be interesting to see what Gary Kubiak does offensively in Minnesota And then the last receiver was San Francisco Trading back into the first round And Drafting Brandon. Iu who is probably the guy with the longest arms in the biggest catch radius out of Arizona State Go check out the game. He had against Oregon when they upset. Oregon This year The biggest surprise by far of the first round was Jordan. Br was Jordan love being drafted by Green Bay after Green Bay traded up four spots from thirty to twenty six to take him He's the heir apparent. They went for the repair to Aaron Rodgers. Now Brett Farve was thirty five when the packers drafted Aaron Rogers. Rogers is thirty six and they've drafted Jordan. Love a lot of packer fans. I'm sure wanted some. You know some playmaking abilities a receiver a tight end something for Aaron Rodgers to work with. He's been missing weapons here in recent years but they drafted the quarterback of the future. I think Aaron Rodgers has three or four years left. You know you get Jordan love and a four year deal with the fifth year option is a first round pick. Maybe that's why they took him in the first round because that gives them the option of five years four It'll be interesting up there. They they needed weapons for Aaron Rodgers to make a run and they drafted a player. That probably won't play for a few years but they got it right the first time when they drafted. Rogers you know a to replace eventually farve Love is one of those guys. Had A great junior year not as good of a senior year but he becomes and became last night. The fourth quarterback In the first round there were a couple of guys pick that it. Nobody saw coming in certain spots. You know Patrick Queen fell a little bit. Jefferson fell a little bit. Damon are net the corner that was picked by the raiders with their second pick which was a bit of a surprise him going that high. But you know if you watch the tape on our net he is a battler. He is a competitor Even if he isn't the most talented of the coroner's in this draft Jordan Brooks the outside linebacker probably went a little bit higher to Seattle than most thought And then know again a Guinea Iggy Hogan a Is the way you would pronounce it. I believe Didn't work on that one clearly but the corner from Auburn. That went to Miami when Miami traded back with Green Bay and they took him at thirty. That was a bit of a surprise And then the of the first round The chiefs took Clyde Edwards Hilar- out of Lsu. I've talked a lot about the running backs the last two days. Going into this draft It's a position that I loved. Try TO GAS ON And I said that I didn't think the Andrea Swift who was really the back that more than any other was projected to be a first round guy or the first running back taken I liked JK Dobbins and I like Edwards Hilar- more. Those were the two out of the top four including Jonathan Taylor that I liked more then swift and Taylor I liked Dobbins in Edward Solaire. I think the chiefs got a gem at the end of the first round and he totally fits with what they're going to do. They're going to be a ton of running backs taken in the second round. I'll be interested to see if it swift or dobbins or Taylor that goes next I think Dobbins should be the next guy to go And and we'll see what happens There But you know a first round that I thought moved pretty quickly. You know there were some trades or a bunch of trades. Not early. The first one you know taking place You know when. The buccaneers switch switch spots with The forty niners. That was the first trade that went down that allowed the buccaneers to jump to a spot where they could get the offensive line into protect Brady and then. We saw a bunch of trades after that the dolphins You know Moving back with the packers And you you know a few more there at the end of the first round the The Patriots Trading out of their spot with the forty niners Etcetera Minnesota made a trade. They had twenty two where they took Jefferson. They had twenty five They made a trade with the forty niners moved back and they got the corner from. Tcu Jeff a gladly now as far as the Redskins Go couple of things We've talked about the Trent Williams stuff. In what the draft To the TR Trent Williams trade market. I would still bet that he gets traded. And I would lean towards like the vikings or maybe a surprise team like Denver. Maybe not so much of a surprise that that Garrett Bowles the first rounder that they took in two thousand seventeen is a disaster and they have the CAP space Even though they did sign John. Jameson you know last year to to play the other side and just a little more on the selection of chase young that came from less carpenter in The Washington. Post that I thought was interesting. Carpenter wrote that the redskins pretty much settled on young and they turned down at least two significant offers in the past week from teams looking to trade up to number two overall He had sources that told him that. One of the teams that wanted to trade up offered draft picks as well as a top player who wanted to be traded from that particular team The other team was reported You know by Fox sports to have been Atlanta who wanted to trade up from sixteen to number two. I think the first team that he describes more likely than not is Jacksonville. Had Two first round picks and they had a player in Jahic in in Gakugei Who wanted to be traded? So I think when he describes one of those teams was offering picks and top player. I think that was Jacksonville. I don't know that but it's just deductive reasoning Also wrote Less Carpenter did in the post that the Redskins Young but also coveted. Jeff Okuda the corner that went to Detroit..

"<hes> instead of falling off the face of the earth with the <hes> <hes> louis delmas now that's the last guy that i remember like right on the fringe there too that would just come in and blew up <hes> but after to that it was that's just not the way it goes more kind of funny with with bama safeties though that all the guys who like the the highly coveted highly trumped up dude's not all of them panned out and i mean right now you make the case that the the hottest playing in bama safety on the planner knows that he jackson for the barriers and i mean i was outside of the fact that he had that injury and whatnot i mean who who really saw that coming alter talented guy but you think about a lot of these safeties mark baron you mentioned <hes> shanklin dicks was one who is <hes> highly trumped up to and i mean his head had a good career at the packers he's in <hes> and then we're turned with washington now. He's in chicago but but let me jackson is in eddie jackson if not forgetting hurt. My opinion was a top three defensive player of the year candidate last year in imagine. He's probably going to pick up where we left off yeah. No i think he's he's one of the top guys at this point <hes> but yeah it's interesting the bama safety <unk> bama safeties have transitioned from the type of guys that they used to go after <hes> the last one that was even close to you know five five six years ago of traditional bama safeties was ronnie harrison that ended up in jacksonville who's playing pretty well down there but even that he still has some positional flexibility compared to the the old guard there yeah because i mean he essentially identifies as a strong safety but and at the same time as you mentioned now that it's not good enough to just bring a dude in because that's the mark barron thing strong safety and then all of a sudden. It's like oh look. He's playing linebacker now. Which surprised is me when i saw that at the time thing like what mark bernes blamed safety and then i thought about toy <unk> yeah i mean you wanna really interesting safety slash linebacker hybrid. Gotta keep an eye on this year. Who's a guy i think if he plays as well as he did lash clean. Some things up could be a weird first-round pick. Pick is isaiah simmons for clemson. He's a dude. That's i think he's six three six four to twenty. <hes> dude runs like zell like there are our reps of him playing from the nickel where he's in like pressman and blows dudes up on the line and do that he doesn't blow by the line fine. He runs with them crazy crazy athlete for his size. The conversation we had about bama safeties you can essentially have <hes> regarding up until recently clemson pass rushers do it you know and it seems like they're guys have finally started to really hit the n._f._l. Level but remember in years past were dolphins. Fans were clamoring for guys like a shack lawson and kevin dodd especially after that championship game they had worked. I mean get let's face. A kevin died absolutely feasted on some of the worst. Were right tackle play. I think i've ever seen and i i mean to me. Hey you got a you. Take your you take what you're given what you're presented with and he absolutely just rolled the net game and then <hes> <hes> for a while there they were just putting out. I know a gaines adams with the signature. In angular pass rusher the guys that put <hes> put on obviously he pass away very early on it was a tragic situation so we couldn't really see i mean he'd been traded to chicago by that point after i think he went forth in the two two thousand seven draft if i recall correctly he went up already. I yeah remember guys. Isa put out like ricky sapp that dude. I mean they're they're guys for. The longest longest stretch were andre branch. They were six three to sixty ad like they just got it done and that's how they were built then they you get a vic beasley dropped in their <hes> the big one..
