"When he read star for example, she's been incorporating fashion part of her artistic process as well as Scotland Audi who is in this year's virtual fashion show she's been using this digital futuristic world of she'd been working in this for over ten years now. Ten plus years, and she's been creating these fashions for her avatars for herself and this year she's bringing these virtual fashion collections. She's doing in to real time which you'll see in this year's fashion show. So indigenous artists have really been walking that line of fashion art for for a long time now. And when you look at indigenous our culture, the history indigenous textiles and fashion is absolutely such a fundamental. Part of native culture. Yeah I actually saw an interview with unit might be on the sway a website but were you talk about the like textile and dress making and fashion traditions of indigenous cultures and how they go back hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years? Can you talk a little bit about that relationship between cultural traditions versus innovation and Maternity? That he really bring to the fashion shows, yes. A great question at very large question because something. Really emphasize is indigenous cultures are so diverse. I mean when she native our history, we're look at America in Canada for one thing which are two different countries. Then you're looking at these cultural regions, for example, the cultural region of the West that includes the Great Plains California the Great Basin and what am I missing here I'm using. But Anyway, the point is, is that we are when you're looking at one region, the West. Covers the Great Rolling Plains to the California where you have sandy beaches and the ocean and most people don't think of when you think of the ocean sandy beaches you don't think of indigenous people. So trying to really emphasize the diversity of indigenous art and culture and design is also it's so diverse. There's also based on the environment and reflects the environment where people in. For example, when you look at northern clothing up the history of clothing in the harsh Arctic climate, the innovative technology, using Walrus or Walrus esophagus in a test Stein's to make rain watertight proof material is life stating and but also is beautiful. The aesthetics is beautiful to be in honor of animals they're hunting, but also call animals to them percents successful hunt. So when you're talking about innovation innovation is absolutely historically ingrained in. Fashion and textiles, and also indigenous arts and culture have always been changing. Living breathing entity because there are trade network systems in North America. Way before there is any contact with Europeans and. Spanish people. So this idea of tradition versus nontraditional versus authentic in on his antics pre contacting contacting trade you know it really that is a Eurocentric Lens and a kind of a logical lands to put native art and culture entities. NEAT. Little compartments that doesn't exist. and. So when he looked at indigenous designers indigenous fashion, maybe it was called something different historically. But indigenous designers have been using innovative ways to make clothing and textiles for millions of years. There's many different examples even if you look at Powell culture in how outfits even in my lifetime, how they changed from. Now, when you go to powwows you see this bright. neon flashy outfits regalia would i. didn't see when I was younger. So indigenous, even what is considered quote indigenous traditional dress or Regalia that is always moving and changing with innovative techniques and materials and design as well. That's a really good segue into the fashion show because that diversity that innovation is on that runway every year you have designers coming in from all over the country from Canada, and they're all doing these incredibly different and unique designs that that really really showed that and celebrate that. Melt Michael Phelps and can be inspired by his message and can have an impact on their lives. One of the things I wanted to ask you about Jay an uncle back to Shiro with another question is in baseball forever and ever and ever. When a player was injured, he was put on the disabled list, and I was reading a lot of material on your. Your site you were part of that group that got that term moved over to where it should be the injured list new. You're not disabled. You're injured. What impact does something like that have long range. Do you think you know we have a founded? A group called Link Twenty Link Twenty is an organization, made up of people with and without disabilities where young advocates. And the reason we created linked was because like we started the show you know. I represented foundation, which essentially representing one small family, but in order to make the issue more impactful to get hundreds of people behind these issues linked twenty was actually the organization that we want that reached out to major, League. Baseball reach out to billy bean. Who is inclusion vice president with with the? with Major League Baseball. He's the. First Openly Gay Major League Baseball player and he's very close to the commissioner. Linked twenty rope to him and said listen. This is fundamentally unfair. You know someone that pulls a hamstring and is going to be on a list for a few weeks until that's healed is injured. He's not permanently disabled, and that's offensive to people with disabilities who draw their identity in large part from being disabled. So Major. League baseball was was awesome. They said you're right and we're GONNA change it, and they changed it right away and now when I listened to. To Baseball Games routinely, it's referred to as the injured list, which is the correct term We trying to be politically correct. We were just saying you know it's time to recognize the rights of people with disabilities, and they see their identity through disability. The other success that this organization had is they reached out to the US. Olympic Committee that was paying Olympians much more money for gold silver bronze medals than they worked to the Paralympian who are also receiving these metals. And after the advocacy of this organization linked twenty of US Olympic Committee agreed to pay Olympians in Paralympian on parody for for their gold and silver, medal and bronze medals, so you know I think that with advocacy comes change and This has been a few of the successes that we've had..

"A hotbed for the cadaver industry, fifty eight thousand people die in Zona each year, about four thousand of them or seven percent of the people who died there each year, our whole body donors, which is five times, the national average, a study done by the ruderman family foundation has revealed that first responders police and fire are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty in two thousand seventeen there at least one hundred three firefighters suicides and one hundred forty police officers suicides in contrast. Ninety-three firefighters and one hundred twenty nine police officers died in the line of duty suicide is a result of can be mental illness, can be depression, and P, T S, which stems from constant exposure to death and destruction last year. Almost three hundred first responders took their own lives, and with fire season ramping up. Again, we're thinking about the firefighters and the first responders. Who worked on the campfire last year and in southern California and the post traumatic stress of those events. So we talked to Dr mini keen, and she is a psychologist who specializes in post traumatic stress and moral injury. She runs the center for post traumatic growth, it's in Rancho Cordova, don't get to pick and choose when and where you go into battle so to speak. Right. And so I think with PD exposure increases your chances of developing post-traumatic stress for sure. And so I don't think there's really any way to stop people from getting post traumatic stress, because it has to do with being humid, and seeing terrible things. So I think that's why we're seeing such high rates of it. And in firefighters first responders now in higher suicide rate. But the good news is that we do have some treatments that can that can help. The goal is just trying to get those folks through the door because they have a culture in which you don't show week. Nece right. You're the you're the you're the rescuer you're, you're the one who walks into danger. So it's often very hard for them to ask for help that would be the hardest part. Just getting them to open up as the daughter of a cot, I can totally see that. Yeah. Absolutely. So the state is taken note of suicides, and has changed the law allowing workers, comp lames for first responders who experience. Post traumatic injury can get the state will pay for issues that they've developed on the job. So both physical and mental health issues. So I think the state is really realizing that they're going to need to support these folks in, in getting the help that they need. If, if we wanna keep a strong force, the doctor keenum works with veterans and she's going to expand services to first responders because she says they're not only seeing post traumatic stress, but a high level of something called moral injury might have heard of this before feelings of unresolved law, Skilton shame where. Are they may have had to make decisions that go against their moral values? Maybe they were unable to stop bad things from happening. Maybe they were not able to save people that they needed to maybe somebody on their force died, and they have survivor guilt. Those kinds of things are in buried deep than I think that people are less aware of those, and I think, that's what drives a lot of the suicide. So I wanna make sure mentioned moral injury, whenever I can in conjunction with post Matic stress, because I think both of those injuries need to be looked at entreated. So she is encouraging, you know, as many are others are as well, even the state is encouraging these first responders to get help, if they need it. Okay. Thank you very much. Interesting. What's up to the roads right now? Check in with Brian, how things looking pretty good getting around Sacramento, this haggarty for people who love cars. No delays on eighty from Roseville.
