"The. Northwest Resistance marked the end of any pretense of nation to nation relationships between Canada and the indigenous peoples of the planes. All of a sudden settler colonialism becomes much more brazen. Right they've gone to war. They've won McDonald basically sanctions the arrest execution of some of the resistances leaders including most notably Lurie L. in very questionable legal proceedings an explaining his objectives at the time MacDonald wrote, and this is a quote the executions of the Indians ought to convince the red man that the white man governs. That's Canada's first prime minister and of indigenous nations were not convinced of this fact. The North West Mounted Police, and later the RCMP were there to enforce colonial control needed for candidates continued capitalist development. So as a force, the mounties whether consciously or not were being used as colonial agents that embodied and enforce Canada's colonial control especially after the war of eighteen, eighty five. Before eighteen eighty, five, some of the leadership of the Northwest Banner. Police did lobby Ottawa for better treatment of indigenous people including increasing their rations but the force was soon brought under the control of the Department of Indian affairs and from then on the mask was totally off. This was an agency charged with controlling indigenous peoples and ensuring colonisation moved forward. So the RCMP worked in local communities quite closely with Indian agents to enforce that colonial control, they threatened violence. They controlled access to food and supplies, and even police cultural ceremonies, things like the Sundance on the prairies the pot latch on the west coast. And Mountains again often had to enforce these measures soft and trying to break up gatherings and they used tactics intimidation and harassment to force indigenous people to follow government policy except smaller and smaller reserves over time. The Canadian government introduced something called the past system which didn't allow first nation people who live on reserves to leave without written permission from the government. was that indigenous people could freely move about they would either a compete in the markets where white farmers and small populations we're trying to trying to emerge, and they also wanted to ensure that indigenous communities a who had signed onto those treaties couldn't move about to talk with other communities saying, okay. Well, are your treaty responsibilities being upheld because ours aren't, and maybe we should work together to resist colonization. The past system was entirely illegal. It was never legislated and the police new that they even complained to the government that it was against the law, but they enforced it regardless nineteen to a commission from South Africa came to Canada to study the past them, they would eventually use similar methods during apartheid. Mounties also acted as truant officers for residential schools, rounding up indigenous children and even kidnapping them from their families. Over the next few decades, hundreds of thousands of European settlers came to live in the prairies and as the population changed. So did the mandate of the police. That story is best embodied by maybe the most influential mountie of the mall. Ellsworth bow and Perry better known as AB Harry. Ab Perry was an inspector with north. West mounted police in early eighteen eighty S, and during the North West Resistance. He was actually appointed a major in the Canadian militia where he led the Alberta Field Force and then went on to establish a number of North West mounted police posts throughout the West after the conflict Perry was described by his contemporaries as handsome and possessing remarkable physical strength and eventually rose to be the commissioner of the mounties. It's often said that the state has a monopoly on violence and by the Early Twentieth Century that monopoly is channel largely through the northwest mounted police than Perry is really the face of that kind of transition and as I said. He uses his position to advocate for simulations policies. Perry is the man who changed the mounties from a colonial paramilitary into a national force that engaged in all kinds of shady activities including spying in union busting I mean Perry was very much. You call an arch imperialist that Steve Hewitt, he's a historian at the University of Birmingham who works on security and intelligence. Many, of the new immigrants settling the prairies came from eastern and southern. Europe. And World War One began Perry was intensely suspicious of these newcomers. One of the most remarkable things is he wrote a piece where he effectively justified vigilantism against immigrant communities during World War One that basically if they were attacked, they had coming. So you just think this is one of the top law officers in the country condoning ethnic attacks because of the heated environment of World War One. Harry turned the north West Mounted Police into a full on professionalized spy agency. I mean how you would recruit informants. On a meeting of Communist, wasn't sufficient to have one informant who was always better to have two informants at the meeting. So you could then compare and contrast the two accounts of the meeting to test for accuracy. These are all things that. Perry help foster. Socialists Communists and union leaders all became targets. Especially, they came from ethnicities that were considered suspicious like fins, Jews and Ukrainians and labor disputes roiled into strikes. The mounties acted as the Premier Union busting force. One of the selling points is the mountains aren't unionized, but the key event is the nine hundred and Winnipeg general strike because during that strike, the the city police go on strike as well, and so it's the Mount Police that are deployed and famously help sort of break the strike. Shortly after the war people are questioning whether or not the northwest mounted police even need to continue to exist by this time the provinces, all have their own forces, but ab Perry was able to convince the government to merge the force with the Dominion police a smaller. National Force responsible for Eastern Canada. And thus the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was formed. And in the years immediately afterwards, they gain more and more power within a decade. The RCMP is engaging in every kind of policing imaginable there the federal force and are invited back to be the provincial forces of many of the provinces they do local crimefighting as well as surveillance on suspect communities they're rounding up first nations children to send them to residential schools, and they're shooting unemployed workers protesting government policy like they did in Regina in nineteen, thirty five, they're doing it all which in some ways. Makes them a remarkably powerful institution because if you think of a police force in the US like the FBI, it operates just at the federal level, right so imagine the FBI, not only as federal police force but also that state police force in a number states and even city police force or community police force across parts of the US it just speaks to what a powerful institution the mounties are not only you know in terms of the symbolism, but also in terms of.

"Rosemary furlong. Hello. Rosemary, and your mom and Irene Roberts, Jerry in house, Robert gov. Frankie reds, Eric Anderson. Jack, Charles hearkens John Kelly. Hi, john. What do they do over there at thanksgiving? Stephen dallas. Thank you so much for being midnight misfits. Welcome to sterling on Sunday. It's a very exciting show because we do things that are wacky. But not as wacky as James Tyson, James Tyson has the most astonishing bio I have seen. That's why I had to have him on tonight. This is what it says James Tyson has been experiencing paranormal energies since he was a small child James is a humorist. He's the host of space that weekend and internet radio show. I have no idea what that means. He is a paranormal investigator. Director of the Canadian paranormal society, he's an empire. And intuitive. And the best part is a retired from the Royal Canadian Mounted police after twenty eight years. I have I had to have you on because never in my life. James have I seen a bio like this? Welcome. Thank you, Walter. I I made that up myself. Okay. James? Is it true is all of this true? It's yeah. It's all true since that was up. I just realized I no longer am hosting that even radio show. Nobody cares about that. Just listen to me the Bill you have to work with me here. I don't have time for you to go into. What is it? Let's talk about what is your Royal Canadian Mounted police your director of Canadian paranormal society, you're an M path in an intuitive. What is an impact? Somebody who's got a little bit of higher vibration or energy. I guess than other people I was given that expression or that that title in two thousand twelve I wasn't really giving the title. I was pointed out to me. One of the ways you could tell somebody's impact most likely you are this is a person about fifty percent of the population dream like lucid dreaming like full on movie where you can actually get up in the middle of the night. Go to the bathroom come back and continue the dream fifty percent of the population do that at least once or twice in their lifetime. The other twenty three to twenty five percent do it regularly. But you're giving me a lot of theory. I need to talk about you James Tyson, you James Tyson. I need to talk about your experiences James what have you done with your empathic abilities? What have you done for the Royal Canadian Mounted police what have you done with the paranormal society? This is the most astonishing resume I've ever seen. How do you put all this to use? Have you solve crimes? Thinking back in two thousand twelve when I was that. I was one of us. I realized that he used to surround yourself with people like that they were a little more as far as solving crimes. We're a little more. Connected to the quote, unquote, client or the offender where they would just come up to us and confessing. We were always the ones that were sent in to do interviews because that person was at a really low point in their life when we walked in with a bunch of energy they tapped into and they would just spilled got to it is. I have the biggest spill what was the biggest spill you've heard. Just armed robberies. You know? I it's you walk. You were you interview somebody I'm in one room watching the the young constable under video screen trying to interview this guy, and he's yelling and screaming at them and the client or the bad guy has his arms crossed pouting. He doesn't doesn't wanna talk. I go in. And if you watch the video his shoulders, just relax, and he drops, and I sit down and say, so how long have you been a heroin addict? And then the tears come and the confession come and people say, well, how did you do that? I just said I just went and talked but didn't yell at them. And it's a connection that we have understood. Now, here's a question for James Tyson paranormal humorist experience her in speaker, one of the things that's fascinating. Batches you I were aware of your paranormal abilities as a small child. What was the first memory? You have is a small child. How old were you? How did you know that this was a gift and not something to be terrified? Good question. I had a experienced a few experiences as probably anywhere between ten and thirteen years old of shadows. In my bedroom. Starting at the foot of the bed banging against it. And then walking up right beside me. And I remember once putting my hand out to where the shadow was thinking. It was my little sister being a little sister. And my hand went into the shadow, I just fell asleep and the next morning. I told my mother about it. And I remember I remember this. She was standing at the sink doing something, and I told her and she didn't even turn around. And look at me, she said sometimes that happens, and I said, oh, okay. So that was filed away. And then when I was sixteen years old, I was in a very bad car. Accident two children were killed in the other car, and I was driving this Ford beater and ram to this other car at a uncontrolled intersection. I recall going to the hospital scene the driver. Yeah. The car with the sun, you know, getting he was getting out of the ambulance by the nurse. And his son who was following him around like nothing like what am I what are we doing here? And it was later I found out that the son actually died in the car, but I described him from head to toe like he was a full on person standing there. And then did you see how did you? How did you see him? Like. Just like I would see you standing there. It was a full on solid. It was nothing about him. That would have triggered me thinking that was weird. Because again, I didn't go into the other car and see the carnage. I was outside of the car at that time. And I was just putting the front seat of the ambulance while the people who were hurt a little bit more in the backseat. But I went back later and looked at his autopsy report, and he was dead in died at the scene. This is John Tyson former Royal Canadian Mounted police, so he's a real guy. He was a cop for twenty eight years. Now, he's the director of the Canadian paranormal society, he's an empathic an intuitive. And he's had these powers since he was a kid. And I believe him. I'm one of these folks when I walk into a house, I know immediately if something really bad happened there, or if it's a happy house that you know, when I look at apartments our homes to live in the second. I walk in. I know if that's a place, I can live or if something bad happen. Have you ever been afraid have you ever? Had sensations that really I mean, your your cop. You're a real man, James Tyson. Did you ever have sensations feelings walking's to a place meeting somebody where you were afraid? I was following around the largest serial killer in Canada got him Willie Picton and during surveillance I walked up behind him. He was buying hogs at some auction. And I tell you it's felt like there was a whole between. He and I went right down to the center of the earth. Just my stomach dropped as I got closer. And again, this is at the point. I'm really not understanding what I'm feeling, but he was a very very empty empty human being. I can feel it as I got. And you could feel it. All right, James Tyson paranormal, we're going to have to have you back on again. Your fascinating guest. I really am very grateful to you to find out more about James Tyson. Go to James Tyson T Y S O N paranormal dot com and anybody listening to me at this hour knows how to spell paranormal. It's James Tyson paranormal dot com. Thank you so much.
