Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.: What you need to know

"Mike tyson versus roy jones rules concluding on further rules. And the fact that twelve ounce gloves will be used instead of ten. He stated the california state. Athletic commission approved the fight. They will have a ref. They're the referee overseeing the fight under are all normal. Fight professional rules with the exception but a few exceptions. That's the gloves. Like putting an extra kleenex between two trucks crashing. You know so. Basically they're talking about. The gloves is the only exception that these rules are under the state athletic commission and that there will be ref there from the state athletic commission as well. So i don't know a lot of confusion a lot back and forth and it's been fight weeks so i kinda wanna give meeting. Maybe his credit and say maybe he's right. You know. I know i know. He came out on one of these earliest shows that we did earlier this week and he said you know all this is just to drum up interest. I think it was when When the presale broke you know when when they initially Released a press. Release that mike. Tyson roy jones set the pay per view presell Broke the pay per views of presell record. I think that's what many say you know that this might be fake news Strategic put out there to build interest in sight. I don't know if that's true based off the attention that we get when we do. These shows on tyson. I think that tyson just brings them out definitely. Because he's a legend man. He's a legend. Any when i when you save them out. We're not just talking about boxing. Fans he brings out to the the the actresses actors the the entertainers. Everybody comes out. I don't care what walks alive. You know who. Mike tyson. Mike tyson is in the ring. You want to see it and you want to see if you know you can get there early to check out. Mike man this iron mike and roy roy jones junior. Mister flashy mr must. Y'all must've forgot. Forty on roy jones like this is what you said when you woke up from your net right you had it on your tv. It's all over my tv solo. My wife was showing looking advertising websites. Hard they got mad. Google banner ads on everything now. Obviously i only searched predominantly boxing. So maybe the i'm targeted you know. Because this technology has gotten to the level where they follow keywords and key stroke. So maybe it's it's it's specific to me because i'm already a boxing fan but i think that they're spending money on advertisement many doing a thing man.

PatientPop, The Proven Practice Growth Platform

"I I wanted wanted to to feature feature a a tech tech startup startup story story. The to hollow highlight at a a very very important important fact fact that that we we seldom seldom talk talk about about even even on on this this show. show. And And that that is is the the solution solution isn't isn't always always as as important important as as the the problem problem and and also also exploit exploit market market testing testing your your technology technology in in your your startup. startup. I'm I'm the the growing growing pains pains under under hurdles hurdles of of managing managing funding. funding. Wouldn't Wouldn't you're you're lucky lucky enough enough to to get get it. it. Of Of course. course. So So today's today's guests guests are are from from a a company company called called patient patient pop, pop, which which is is a a fast fast growing growing healthcare healthcare technology technology star star ROY ROY in in the the hall hall of of silicon silicon beach beach and and today's today's guest guest is is a a highly highly motivated motivated goal goal focused focused and and passionate passionate entrepreneur entrepreneur with with a a successful successful track track record record of of working working with with start startup up and and early early stage stage companies. companies. And And has has also also participated participated in in two two successful successful exit. exit. So So book book elope elope and and hold hold on on tight tight as as I I beam. beam. Your Your heirs heirs all all the the way way to to California. California. So So we we can can speak speak with with Luke Luke curving, curving, founder founder and and CEO see of off patient. patient Pop. pop. So So massive massive warm. warm. Welcome Welcome to to the the show. show. Can Can you you tell tell them them a a little little about about who who you you are? are? And And what what you you do. do. Sure. Sure. Thanks Thanks for for having having me me Neal. Neal. My My name name is is Luke Luke urban, urban, and and I'm I'm the the co co founder founder and and co-ceo cassia of of patient patient Pau Pau where where a a healthcare healthcare technology technology company company based based in in Santa Santa Monica. Monica. So So for for people people that that hearing hearing about about patient patient pub pub for for the the very very first first time, time, can can you you just just paint paint a a picture picture and and help help them them visualize. visualize. Exactly, Exactly, what what is is in in the the kind kind of of problems problems that that you you guys. guys. So So sure sure Beijing Beijing pop pop is is a a software software as as a a service service platform. platform. We We are are the the first first practice practice growth growth platform platform for for healthcare healthcare and and our our mission mission is is to to help help practices practices thrive. thrive. The The way way we we do do that that is is we we help help practices practices attract attract and and retain retain patients patients for for life. life. And And really really what what we're we're doing doing is. is. We've We've mapped mapped out out the the patient patient journey journey every every step step of of the the patient patient journey. journey. We We have have identified identified all all of of the the points points of of friction friction and and we've we've built built a a platform platform to to modernize modernize each each step step of of that that journey journey in in an an effort effort to to help. help. Bring Bring patients patients into into the the practice. practice. So So he he told told me me that more more about about how how you you guys guys actually sleep bringing bringing people people process process and and technology technology together together with with a a patient patient Paul Paul because because it it seems seems to to be be those those days days with of the the secret secret ingredients ingredients to to McCann can you yougov gossip successful. successful. Sure. Sure. Absolutely. Absolutely. So So we're we're approaching approaching four four hundred hundred employees employees at at patient up pop. The the one one thing thing I'll I'll say say about about our our companies companies that that were were very very metric metric driven driven every every employee employee is is working working towards towards a a target target set set of of metrics metrics or or outcomes. outcomes. And And so so to to set set goals goals at at patient patient op pop. we We use use a a system system or or a a framework framework called called okay okay ours. ours. And And this this is is a a framework framework that that we we started started using using two two or or three three years years ago. ago. And And the the reason reason I I like like it it is is because because it it encourages encourages accompany accompany teams teams and in employees employee's to to set set stretch stretch goals goals and and one one of of the the key key features features of of okay okay ours ours is is that that they're they're not not tied tied to to compensation compensation or or performance performance reviews. reviews. So So unlike unlike other other goal, goal, setting setting frameworks frameworks employees employees and and teams teams often often have have an an incentive incentive to to sandbag sandbag because because their their bonus. bonus. And And the the performance performance review review is is tied tied to to the the team payment of of those those goals. goals. And And so so what? what okay Okay. Ours. ours Teach teach us us is is that that we we really really should should try try to to separate separate those those two two things. things. And And so so that's that's how how we we said said goals goals at patient patient pop, pop. and And then then we we use use various various technologies technologies and in systems systems to to track track and and measure measure our our goal goal attainment. attainment. But But one one of of the the key key ones y. Owns a a Salesforce, Salesforce. we've We've built built her her entire entire business business on on Salesforce, Salesforce, both both our our sales sales org, org, and and our or customer customer successor successor is is using using Salesforce Salesforce on on a a daily daily basis, basis, and and that's that's the the platform platform that that we we use use amongst amongst others others to to track track and and report report on on our our key key metrics, metrics, I'm I'm curious curious how how you you got got way way will will today today them. them. So So what's what's the the textile textile story story behind behind patient patient pump and and discovering discovering that that solution solution isn't isn't always always as as important potent as as the the problem? problem? Exactly. Exactly. So, So, you you know, know, I I believe believe that that the the first first step step in in creating creating a a new new business business is is to to identify identify huge huge must must solve solve problem. problem. And And the the thinking thinking is is if if you you get get the the problem, problem, right? right? You'll You'll have have the the opportunity opportunity to to build build a a big big business. business. Even Even if if the the initial initial solution solution that that you you bring bring to to market market isn't isn't the the right right solution. solution. So So it's it's really really important important to to find find a a massive massive muscle muscle. problem. Prob. Problem. And And so so before before we we started started patient patient up up our our previous previous business business shop shop nation nation had had recently recently been been acquired, acquired, and and we we had had to to find find a a simple simple set set of of criteria criteria that that we we were were looking looking for for in in our our next next business. business. So So we we said said number number one one it it has has to to be be a a large large market market has has to to be be a a massive massive market market can't can't build build a a massive massive business business in in the the small small market. market. So So it it has has to to be be large large number number two. two. It It has has to to be be a a must must solve solve problem. problem. Right. Right. We We didn't didn't want want to to build build a a nice nice to to have have product product that that was was optional optional for for a a business. business. It It had had to to be be must must solve. solve. So So it it had had to to be be one one of of the the key key things. things. That That was was keeping keeping our our perspective perspective customers customers up up at at night. night. We We were were looking looking for for a a market market that that had had no no defined defined winners. winners. Or Or that that was was highly highly fragmented, fragmented, and and we we wanted wanted a to business business model model in in market market that that commanded commanded a a high high valuation valuation multiple. multiple. So So when when we we looked looked at at subscription subscription based based businesses businesses software software as as a a service service specifically specifically we we noticed noticed that that valuations valuations in in multiples multiples were were much much higher higher than than what what we're we're used used to to in in the the world world of of e-commerce. e-commerce. You You know, know, you're you're seeing seeing six six eight eight ten ten twelve twelve x x revenue revenue multiples multiples where where in the. the World world of of e-commerce, e-commerce, you you might might be be looking looking at at a one one or or two two x. x. So So we we liked liked that that about about this the subscription obstruction model, model. and And then then we we were were looking looking for for a a simple simple sales sales model. model. Right. Right. A A really really simple simple go go to to market market strategy strategy where where we we could could build build software software higher higher sales sales people people and in go going. into To the the market market and and sell sell it. it. So So before before we we did did any any research research and and started started thinking thinking about about the the next next opportunity, opportunity, my my business business partner, partner, and and I I had had written written down down that that criteria. criteria. And And we we would would judge judge evaluate evaluate every every opportunity opportunity we we came came across across against against that that criteria. criteria. So So that that was was step step one. one. Then Then we we got got a a little little bit bit lucky. lucky. My My wife wife happened happened to to be be pregnant pregnant at at the the time time with with my my daughter daughter who who just just turned turned five five yesterday. yesterday. And And so so we we were were spending spending a a lot lot of of time time in in waiting waiting rooms. rooms. And And I I was was really really shocked shocked at at how how little little technology technology these these healthcare healthcare practice practice has has had had adopted adopted to to improve improve the the patient patient experience. experience. So So we we experienced experienced all all kinds kinds of of she's shoes long long, wait wait times times rushed rushed visits visits poor poor customer customer service. service. We We couldn't couldn't schedule schedule an an appointment appointment online online in in two two thousand thousand thirteen thirteen I I thought thought that that was was odd. odd. And And we we couldn't couldn't pay pay a a Bill Bill online. online. I I can can recall recall in in. two Two thousand thousand and thirteen thirteen I I had had order order a checkbook checkbook simply simply to to pay pay a a healthcare healthcare Bill. Bill. And And I I thought thought that that was was very very surprising. surprising. And And then then something something terrible terrible happens. happens. They They missed missed a a critical. critical Test test result result. information Information was was not not properly properly shared shared from from one one provider provider to to another another it it ended ended up up getting getting caught caught by by accident accident by by her her primary primary care care provider, provider, but but had had it it not not been been caught caught it it would would have caused caused major major problems problems in in her her pregnancy. pregnancy. And And so so I I went went back back to to my my business business partner. partners Travis Travis, and and I I said, said, I I think think I I know know what what we're we're gonna gonna do do next. next. We're We're going going to to build build a a platform platform to to quarterback, quarterback, pregnancies. pregnancies. And And so so off off we we went went into into the the market market we we interviewed interviewed about about ten ten OBGYN's OBGYN's in in the the LA LA area. area. We We wanted wanted to to learn learn more more about about this this opportunity opportunity if if they they share share the the same same passion passion for for solving solving this this problem. problem. And And when when we we went went out out to to interview interview them, them, we we actually actually learned learned that that there there was was a a much much bigger bigger problem problem at at every every independent independent practice practice that that we we talked talked to to said said the the exact exact same same thing thing in in two two thousand thousand and and thirteen thirteen they they were were struggling struggling to to survive. survive. Many Many of of them them were were earning earning less. less Than than they they had had in in the the past past due due to to changes changes in in reimbursement reimbursement models models and and some some of of them them were were even even considering considering selling selling their their practice practice to to one one of of these these larger larger health health systems systems or or hospital hospital groups groups because because they they were were struggling struggling and and. the The second second thing thing we we learned learned was was that that every every practice practice every every doctor doctor whether whether they they were were thirty thirty five five or or sixty sixty five five years years old. old. They They all all recognize recognize that that the the front front door door of of their their practice practice was was moving moving online, online, and and they they were were scrambling scrambling to to figure figure out out a a strategy. strategy. And And so so what what most most of of these these practices practices had had done done is. is they They had had called cobbled together. together. What What we we call call a a piecemeal piecemeal solution? solution? It's It's the the guy guy down down the the street street built built them them a a website. website. They're They're working working with with a a vendor vendor for for online online scheduling scheduling they're they're working working with with a a different different vendor vendor to to bring bring to to do do Email Email marketing, marketing, they're they're working working with with a a consultant consultant to to do do SEO SEO the the really really concerned concerned about about their their online online reputation. reputation. So So they're they're spending spending advertising advertising dollars dollars on on yelp yelp because because they they think think that that will will help help maybe maybe they they have have someone someone coming coming into into their their office office to to do do social social media. media. And And so so it it was was really really a a hodgepodge hodgepodge of of different different services services in in vendors vendors that that they they had. had Called called together together to to try try to to solve solve the the solution. solution. And And what what we we learned learned was was that that there there were were spending spending a a lot lot of of money. money. They They were were spending spending a a lot lot of of time time managing managing all all of of these these vendors, vendors, and and they they really really couldn't couldn't tell tell whether whether it it was was. working Working or or not. not. And And in in most most cases, cases, it it was was wasn't wasn't working working when when we we when when we we really really looked looked into into it. it. Because Because a a lot lot of of these these solutions solutions were were not not designed designed for for healthcare, healthcare, and and these these solutions solutions were were not not designed designed to to work work together. together. And And most most of of them them were were were were horizontal horizontal platform. platform. So So they they had had really really they they were were not not tailored tailored at at all all to to healthcare healthcare and and so- so- Travis Travis in in myself myself asked asked yourselves. yourselves. What What would would we we do do given given our our background background and and e e commerce commerce marketing, marketing, so so we we had had previously previously built built to to businesses businesses in in ecommerce ecommerce marketing, marketing, what what would would we we do do to to solve solve this this problem? problem? And And we we envisioned envisioned what what we we call call a a practice practice growth growth platform. platform. And And really really what what it it is. is. It's It's an an e e commerce commerce platform platform for for healthcare. healthcare. It's It's designed designed to to drive drive transactions transactions online, online, which which in in this this case, case, our our new new patients patients to to manage manage the the purchase purchase funnel. funnel. Which Which in? in? This This case case is is the the patient patient journey. journey And and to to bring bring patients patients back back when when the the time time is is right. right. So So to to retain retain them them or or recall recall them them in and bring bring them them back back into into the the business. business. And And so so that's that's that that was was the the original original vision vision for for the the business. business. We We got got started started in in two two thousand thousand fourteen fourteen. and And we we saw saw really really incredible incredible product product market market fit fit right right out out of of the the gate. gate. Is Is fascinating fascinating is is how how locked locked puts puts you you in in the the right right place place at at the the right right time time with with the the you'll you'll pregnant pregnant wife wife the the inspiration. inspiration. Hit Hit us us almost almost like like the the universe universe gives gives you you a a little little not not in in the the right right direction. direction. Sometimes Sometimes isn't isn't it? it? Absolutely. Absolutely. So So for for any any stall stall took took found found his his listening. listening. Can Can you you offer offer any any advice advice on on mulkey mulkey testing testing that that technology technology before before actually actually getting getting outlet? outlet? Yes. Yes. Absolutely. Absolutely. So So I'm I'm a a huge huge believer believer in in validating validating as as cheaply cheaply cost cost effectively effectively and and efficiently efficiently as as possible possible you you really really want want to to try try to to test test your your idea idea really really quickly quickly and and not not spend spend a a lot lot of of money money and and not not make make a a big big investment investment to to determine determine can can this this be be a a big big business business or or not? not? So So I'll I'll give give you you a a couple couple of of examples. examples. So So our our previous previous business business prior prior to to patient patient pop. pop. We We had had started started a a business business called called shop shop nation, nation, which which was was ecommerce ecommerce marketing marketing platform, platform, and and with with our our initial initial product product there, there, we we went went out, out, and and we we interviewed interviewed a a bunch bunch of of consumers consumers we we wanted wanted to to find find out out what what they they use use this this e e commerce commerce tool tool that that we we were were building building to to shop shop online, online, and and we we sat sat down down we we went went to to a a couple couple of of universities, universities, and and we we had had them them use use the the actual actual prototype, prototype, and and we we collected collected feedback feedback and and just just about about every every student student that that we we talked talked to to told told us us they they loved loved it. it. And And that that they they would would absolute. absolute. Use Use it. it. But But when when we we launched launched it it we we saw saw very very little little traction. traction. And And what what I I what what we we learned. learned. There There was was if if you you as as a a founder founder of of going going out, out, and and you're you're asking asking someone someone to to test test something something you you certainly certainly don't don't want want to to ask ask friends friends or or family family members. members. But But even even if if you're you're asking asking a a stranger, stranger, and and they they know know the the context context that that you're you're founder, founder, and and it's it's the the product product that that you're you're building building they're they're probably probably going going to to give give you you positive positive feedback feedback and and you're you're going going to to have have a a false false positive. positive. And And so so when when we we started started patient patient pop pop rather rather than than going going out out and and interviewing interviewing and and ask ask them them for for feedback. feedback. We We did did a a little little bit bit of of that that initially. initially. But But what what we we really really wanted wanted to to do do was was test test selling selling the the product product or or testing testing the the product product in in a a real real in a a real real life life context. context. So So when when we we brought brought it it to to market market initially, initially, we we designed designed a a website website redesign redesign the the brochure, brochure, and and we we printed printed two two business business cards cards for for myself, myself, and and my my partner, partner, we we called called herself herself sales sales reps reps we we called called around around town. town And and we we scheduled scheduled demos demos with with doctors. doctors. We We told told them them we we had had software software that that would would help help them them bro bro their their practice, practice, and and we we went went in in and and we we pick. pick. The The product product is is though though it it existed existed we we showed showed screen screen shots. shots. We We didn't didn't tell tell them them that. that. We We were were founders. founders. We We didn't didn't tell tell them. them. This This was was a a new new business. business. We We really really wanted wanted to to test. test. If If the the market market would would spend spend four four five five six six hundred hundred dollars dollars a a month month on on a a practice practice growth growth platform platform to to attract attract and and retain retain patients patients and and through through that that test. test. We We signed signed up up the the first first nine nine out out of of nine nine doctors doctors that that we we pitched pitched and and we we knew knew that that we we were were onto onto something. something. For For many many found found is is listing listing as as well. well The the bullet bullet away away that sometimes sometimes guilty guilty a trying throwing everything everything into into funding. funding. An An when when they they get get the the encamped encamped a a whole whole range range of of new new challenges. challenges. So So we'll we'll all all the the hurdles hurdles of of managing managing funding. funding. Wouldn't Wouldn't you you look look enough enough to to get get it? it? You You know, know, to to be be honest, honest, you you know, know, we've we've never never really really experienced experienced challenges challenges related related to to fund fund in in because because you you know, know, you you really really don't don't want want to to raise raise capital capital in in the the first first place place unless unless you you know, know, how how you're you're going gonna to use use it. it. So So you you want want to to have have a a very very clearly clearly defined defined operating operating plan plan going going into into your your into into your your year year where where you you know, know, exactly exactly how how much much capital capital you you require require and and how how you're you're going gonna to put put it it to to work. work. Right. Right. And And as as you you project project that that out out over over a a couple couple of of years years that that gives gives you you an an idea idea of of how how much much capital capital you you need need to to raise. raise. Now, Now, we we did did something something that's that's not not common. common. We We hired hired a a CFO CFO as as fifth fifth or or six six higher. higher. We We hired hired a a CFO CFO before before we we had had any any real real revenue, revenue, and and that that was was because because Travis Travis and and myself, myself, my my partner, partner, and and I I were were coming coming into into software software as as a a service, service, we we had had little little very very very. very. Little Little experience experience selling selling software software in in our our previous previous to to businesses. businesses. We We had had built built ecommerce ecommerce marketing marketing platforms, platforms, and and we we wanted wanted to to have have an an expert expert that that understood understood software software businesses, businesses, and and we we thought thought it it made made sense sense to to have have a a CEO CEO in in early early to to help help us us build build out out the the model model to to project project how how much much capital capital we we would would require require and and to to play play a a key key role role in in raising raising that that capital capital and and then then managing managing it. it. Now Now patient patient pup pup recently recently announced announced that that he's he's practiced practiced growth growth solution, solution, not not suppose. suppose. Amazon. Amazon. Alexa, Alexa, search search which which will will actually actually allow allow patients patients to to fund fund that that provide provide is is basically basically asking asking Alexa, Alexa, using using their their voice. voice. What What kind kind of of fate feedback back have have you you received received on on this? this? And yes, art promise, you are will go to research, it guess stiffler is pure gold to me so book, a look and hold until I as I beam you'll is all the way to California. So we can speak with Kenny Hoke from Mojo. Massif warm. Welcome to the show Kenny how the New Year's resolutions going. Oh, you still holding firm after the holiday. He's under other any plans to resurrect your semi pro pro skating skating in in career. career. Maybe Maybe prove prove you you can can still still do do a a handstand handstand world world rolling rolling for for asking. asking. You You know, know, we we live live the the very very focused focused light. light. So So we're we're going going to to stick stick to to our our plans. plans. No No there there is is no no new new resolutions resolutions for for twenty twenty nineteen nineteen other other than than make make sure sure we we stay stay focused focused and and for for skateboarding. skateboarding. And And past past the the past past the the point point of of being being a a pro pro skateboarder, skateboarder, but but I I still still try try to to do do a a hand hand stand stand on on the the skateboard skateboard at at least least once once a a year year to to make make sure sure I I could could still still do do it. it. And And I'll I'll probably probably do do that that with with my my team. team. So So looking looking forward forward to to a a great great CDS CDS this this year year lab lab test test eight eight Lacerda Lacerda sight sight to to see see the the when when I I was was researching researching you you I'll I'll let let you you a a Detroit Detroit native native who who grew grew up up with with roots roots in in the the automotive automotive industry. industry. And And I I believe believe you you started started your your career career working working on on the the manufacturing manufacturing floor floor at at General General Motors. Motors. But But soon soon found found yourself yourself leading leading Detroit Detroit for for new new opportunities opportunities overseas overseas and and in in Silicon Silicon Valley. Valley. So So can can you you expand expand on on that? that? Tell Tell me me about about the the transition transition from from the the manufacturing manufacturing for for for for new new opportunities opportunities older older season season in in Silicon Silicon Valley. Valley. Sure. Sure. Sure. Sure. So So I I worked worked at at General General Motors Motors between between junior junior and and senior senior year year of of college college to to make make some some money money for for college college snow snow university university in in the the US US is is quite quite expensive. expensive. And And I I was was supposed supposed to to be be programming. programming. Robots Robots at at General General Motors. Motors. Will Will it it turned turned out out the the robots robots were were delayed delayed from from Japan? Japan? And And so so the the plant plant manager. manager. L L Harris Harris came came out out to to us us twenty twenty eight eight college college students students who who are are supposed supposed to to be be doing doing programming programming and and said said men, men, I've I've got got good good news news and and bad bad news news bad bad news, news, robots robots won't won't be be here here for for another another nine nine months. months. Good Good news news is is you you can can work work on on the the manufacturing manufacturing floor floor as as production production supervisor. supervisor. And And learn learn manufacturing manufacturing is is all all about, about, and and we we we we were were like like deer deer in in the the headlights. headlights. I I really really needed needed the the job job slide slide state state about about half half the the people people left left and and took took their their backup backup jobs, jobs, and and I I had had to to manage manage you you cranky cranky twenty twenty to to thirty thirty year year veterans veterans of of the the United United Auto Auto Workers Workers union. union. And And as as there there is is a a nineteen nineteen year year old old with with you you knowing knowing very very little little about about management, management, and and I I tell tell you you they they just just rip rip me me apart apart for for the the first first few few weeks weeks until until I I finally finally earned earned the the respect respect in in delta delta relationship relationship with with them. them. But But it it was was probably probably one one of of the the toughest toughest things things I I ever ever did did was was managing, managing, you you know, know, people people older older than than me me different different races races different different backgrounds, backgrounds, and and it it really really took took a a lot lot of of humble humble pie pie to to be be able able to to do do that that job. job. But But I I still still love love technology technology and. and. For For me me getting getting out out to to Silicon Silicon Valley Valley was was goal goal at at least least getting getting out out to to the the west west coast. coast. And And I I took took a a job job with with a a startup startup chip chip company company as as a a chip chip designer designer and and moved moved out out to to southern southern California. California. And And that's that's how how I I started started my my technology technology career. career. Incredible Incredible journey journey you you all all to to the the CEO CEO of of Campbell Campbell based based company company called called Mojo, Mojo, which which is is a a leading leading SAS SAS platform platform for for connected connected cars cars and and carry carry a a brand brand new new IOT IOT services. services. But But Mojo Mojo is is also also you'll you'll six six outing outing the the CEO CEO I've I've got got to to ask ask where where did did your your passion passion for for using using technology technology to to solve solve real real world world problems? problems? Where Where did did that that come come from? from? It's It's interesting. interesting. I I was was looking looking back back and and turn turn it it throughout throughout your your we're we're we're we're the the roots. roots. My My dad dad was was electric. electric. So So he he always always had had switches switches and and light light bulbs bulbs and and circuits circuits we we built built radio radio shack shack electronics electronics kits kits together. together. He He actually actually built built a a TV TV from from a a heath heath kit kit project. project. Can't Can't we we actually actually take take all all the the components components and and build build your your own own TV TV in in so so tinkering tinkering with with electron electron at at early early age age really really helped helped with with that. that. And And I I look look back back and and now now that that radio radio seconds seconds defunct defunct and and all all the the stores stores are are shut shut down. down. You You know, know, I'm I'm hoping hoping somebody somebody resurrects resurrects those those kits kits because because as as a a young young kid kid playing playing with with those those cats, cats, you you know, know, really? really? Really Really taught taught you you the the basics basics of of how how hell hell electrcity electrcity flows. flows. Have Have switches switches work work relays, relays, transistors, transistors, building building your your first first transistor transistor radio radio component component by by component. component. Those Those are are things things that that kids. kids. Now, Now, just just take take for for granted granted everything everything just just works. works. Are Are you you don't don't need need to to know know how how it it works? works? I I think think understanding understanding understanding understanding how how things things work work is is a a key key part part of of building building out out love love and and curiosity curiosity around around technology technology for for people people hearing hearing about about Mojo Mojo for for the the very very first first time. time. Could Could you you just just set set the the scene scene ill ill failed? failed? Exactly Exactly what what as as the the real real world world problems problems that that you you solve solve what what makes makes stop stop out out of of solutions solutions outlet. outlet. Sure. Sure. So So some some OJ OJ we're we're in in Vancouver Vancouver based based company company with with offices offices in in Silicon Silicon Valley. Valley. Also Also Sofia Sofia Bulgaria, Bulgaria, we're we're quite quite global. global. We We build build a a cloud cloud platform platform for for IOT IOT starting starting with with the the connected connected car. car. And And what what that that means means is is we we for for just just ten ten dollars dollars or or ten ten year year olds olds per per month month of of mobile mobile operator operator provides provides a a device device that that the. the. Sumer Sumer plugs plugs into into the the vehicle vehicle into into their their on-board on-board diagnostic diagnostic court, court, which which every every car car since since nineteen nineteen ninety ninety seven seven has has in in by by plugging plugging that that device device in in you. you. Light Light up up for for G. G. Lt Lt me me WI WI wifi wifi in in the the car car see see of of high-speed high-speed wifi wifi in in the the car car that that works works anytime. anytime. The The car car is is on on you you also also decode decode all all the the secret secret information information hiding hiding behind behind that that on-board-diagnostics on-board-diagnostics port, port, for for example, trouble codes when you check engine light goes on. And you have no idea what the problem is. We'll tell you not only the severity of the problem. But what the problem is the likely cost of repair. So when you go into a mechanic shop you as a consumer have much more power than just driving in and saying, please help I have no idea. What's wrong with my vehicle? Now, you can drive in and say this catalytic converters failing it should cost about six hundred pounds. Can you do it for six hundred pounds or less? So So just just those those two two features features not not only only give give the the customer customer more more convenience. convenience. But But also also save save them them time time say say that that money. money. It It also also lets lets you you know, know, if if your your car car has has been been tampered tampered with with has has been been bumped bumped toters toters being being stolen, stolen, and and you you know, know, that that your your loved loved one. one. Ones. Ones. Are Are also also getting getting into into a a safe safe vehicle vehicle for for me me I've I've got got teen teen daughters. daughters. So So knowing knowing that that they're they're driving driving safely safely knowing knowing where where they they are. are. And And the the cars cars are are safe safe is is also also great great peace peace of of mind mind for for me me as as a a parent parent and and with with that that we've we've gone gone from from zero zero to to eight eight hundred hundred thousand thousand connected connected car car last last eighteen eighteen months, months, and and we'll we'll put put you you off off Moderato. Moderato. If If you you let let you you close close twenty twenty eighteen eighteen on on an an incredibly incredibly high high note, note, we've we've moved moved T T mobile mobile Poland Poland as as long long as as the the small small cost cost pilot pilot by by Mojo, Mojo, which which takes takes you you to to nine nine operators operators in in six six countries. countries. But But could could you you expand expand on on these these and and how how incredible incredible journey journey which which seems seems to to be be gathering gathering spate? spate? Now, Now, doesn't doesn't it? it? Yes. Yes. Thank Thank you. you. It's It's it it really really is is celebrating celebrating Deutsche Deutsche Telekom, Telekom, which which is is majority majority owner owner of of T T mobile mobile also also t t mobile mobile Poland Poland t t mobile mobile Germany Germany Austria Austria Czech Czech Republic. Republic. Thirteen Thirteen other other countries countries around around the the world, world, they they invested invested in in a a round, round, and and they they also also invested invested in in our our most most recent recent be be round, round, and and they've they've been been very very active active as as a a strategic. strategic. Investor Investor in in many many times times strategic strategic investors investors young young talk talk about about delivering delivering more more than than money, money, but but very very rarely rarely do do they they actually actually follow follow through through on. on. That That Goto Goto telecom telecom has has been been amazing. amazing. They They have have a a partner partner in in group group with with a a couple couple of of key key people people Ota Ota Chesney Chesney Gabby Gabby that that actively actively work work as as hard hard trying trying to to help help the the startup startup that that the the that that the the big big corporate corporate has has invested invested in in as as they they do do making making sure sure the the corporate corporate gets gets there there initiatives initiatives completed completed so so that that group group has has been been really really helpful helpful in in helping helping us us to to find find the the product product test test the the product product make make sure sure it's it's carrier carrier grade grade also also making making sure sure were were fully fully compliant compliant with with GDP GDP are are the the new new regulations regulations in in Europe, Europe, and and then then helping helping us us work work through through each each of of the the different different countries countries which which still still are are allowed allowed to to make make their their own own individual individual decisions. decisions. So So that that investment investment from from Richard Richard telecom, telecom, and and the the partnering partnering group group in in working working closely closely with with them them have have been been really really instrumental, instrumental, and and we we are are super super happy happy to to have have our our most most recent recent launch launch in. in. Tell Tell the the town town has has number number one one market market share share there. there. And And they're they're really really excited excited about about being being used used this this technology technology to to make make their their car car safer, safer, put put WI WI fi fi in in it it and and helped helped her her consumers. consumers. I I believe believe you you also also do do guest guest lectures lectures at at stunt stunt fits fits engineering engineering entrepeneurship entrepeneurship program. program. Can Can you you tell tell me me a a little little bit bit more more about about that that program? program? And And why why you you think think so so important, important, absolutely. absolutely. Why Why looking looking back back to to the the first first company company I I started started I I wrote wrote my my business business plan plan in in that that class class and and the the class class is is a a combination combination of of engineering engineering master's master's students students and and business business schoolmaster schoolmaster students students in in the the Inkatha Inkatha that that class class is is a a business business plan plan that that you you present present to to both both the the professor professor Mike Mike lions lions and and also also the the students students and and eventually eventually to to venture venture capitalists. capitalists. Why Why wrote wrote might might first first business business plan plan in in class class in in actually actually starting starting my my first first company company I I go, go, which which I've I've actually actually took took public public ninety ninety nine. nine. And And so so that that class. class. Nice Nice has has a a real real special special place place in in my my heart. heart. You You know, know, healthy healthy launch launch my my first first business business in in so so Mike Mike lions lions invites invites me me back, back, and and I I come come back back in in disguise disguise myself myself as as another another student, student, and and they they do do the the business. business. And And then then eventually eventually Mike Mike asked asked me me to to come come downs. downs. I I take take off off my my baseball baseball cab cab come come down down to to the the further further class class and and tell tell her her what what actually actually happen happen says says a a real real fun fun kind kind of, of, you you know, know, live live case case study study around around the the business business that that that that actually actually worked worked despite despite all all the the problems problems in. in. So So that's that's a a lot lot of of fun fun for for me. me. You You know, know, I I got got my my first first big big break break from from a a Stanford Stanford alumni, alumni, John John Michael Michael who's who's very very first first investor investor if if he he had had come come up up with with the the original original idea idea for for the the business, business, and and you you know, know, he's he's been been a a huge huge proponent proponent of of entrepreneurs entrepreneurs is is a a first. first. Estrin Estrin Staples, Staples, kinkos kinkos copies copies and and was was really really the the guy guy that that stood stood by by me in during the tough times. After starting the business said, listen, I believe in you believe in the business steel stick through this. You're gonna make it instead of worrying about each of the issues to send me a fax. This is back. When people did a lot of faxing semi a fax every Friday in the one good thing that happened and you'll see after time, you're you're making progress in you know, it turns out he was right in. So I'm threader thankful now into Stanford. But also, John Michael for gave me the confidence to stick with it. And not let the first second third or fifteenth problem. He'll. Knock you down every startups have problems, but you probably saw beginning one more step closer to the solution. So that's a key part. And the other is just being back on campus. Really energizes you being around you all students the energy, you know, the taking you back to time. When you remember that anything is possible? There's nothing like that feeling of being on campus. So I get a lot out of it as well. Not you have enjoyed a fantastic career experienced a dramatic is on lows of entrepreneurship since we can help from shop floor. But But can can you you share share the the finished? finished? Oh, Oh, most most interesting interesting story. story. This This happened happened to to you you since since you you began began late late in in Ulan Ulan company company had had -solutely. -solutely. Well. Well. You You know, know, I I started started at at the the chip chip company company called called Silicon Silicon Systems Systems right right out out of of college. college. And And after after on on a a couple couple of of years years working working in in different different parts parts of of the the genera genera team team invited invited to to a a CEO CEO dinner dinner and and the the CEO CEO of of the the company company car car of of I I didn't didn't know know this. this. And And I I said said well well for for customer customer meeting meeting last last week. week. And And I I noticed noticed that that your your sales sales guys guys are are confused confused about about some some of of the the products. products. They're They're missing missing opportunities opportunities in in customers customers really really frustrated frustrated trying trying to to figure figure out out which which of of the the products products to to use use and and how how to to apply apply them. them. I I think think we we need need a a two two day day technical technical training training class class for for our our sales sales people people and and Karm Karm says, says, you you know, know, what what you're you're right right at at a a lot lot of of complaints complaints about about that. that. He He can can move move over over the the weekend weekend report report up up to to the the general general manager manager John John Tamil Tamil up up there there on on Monday. Monday. And And that that was was it. it. I I was was pushed pushed from from a a technical technical career, career, which which I I was was really really enjoying enjoying into into sales. sales. And And you you know, know, I I thought thought of of sales sales is is used used star star sales sales people, people, I I never never understood understood or or appreciated appreciated the the importance importance or or the the art art of of professional professional sales sales and and went went into into his his office office and and said, said, I'm I'm not not I'm I'm not not a a salesman salesman engineer engineer design design products products Bill Bill products. products. He He says says number number one. one. This This is is not not a a democracy democracy decisions decisions been been made made number number two. two. And And we we just just crushed crushed it it became became number number one one worldwide worldwide eventually eventually at at thought thought TD TD k k at at later later TI TI in in that that experience experience combined combined with with the the other other lessons. lessons. I I learned learned it it so so consistent consistent stay stay with with me, me, my my whole whole career, career, and and I I look look back back because because I I had had a a chance chance to to go go back back to to General General Motors Motors and and IBM IBM which which I'd I'd also also worked worked at at and, and, you you know, know, if if I'd I'd taken taken that that easy easy path path which which actually actually paid paid more more money money than than what what Silicon Silicon Systems Systems offered, offered, you you know, know, we've we've never never learned learned as as quickly quickly as as they they did did it it growth growth company. company. "It just kind of it's an either or discussion be you know if you want guy that can drive it far hitches straight and is not afraid to hit it on the biggest stages then you gotta go with roy but if you want a guy that's one four times and can go around that golf course blindfolded then you gotta go tiger woods rory said that they should limit alcohol sales had a fan heckling him mentioning rory's wife you're there you are professional for you were there with tiger you know how chaotic it can get i mean how how ugly personal does it get with this with the fans and i think it comes down to dan you know where we categorize us ourselves as a sport i saw some pretty ugly behavior at the twenty sixteen ryder cup at hazel team a lot of the american fans were kind of digging into the european side which i have nothing against tackling i've got nothing against sort of cheer rooting for your team but when you cross the line and it gets personal i think that's kind of a little bit overboard and i think that what has to happen is the pga tour in the governing bodies of our sport needs to do a better job just observing and and maintaining a secure workspace for the golfers because you there's there's no assigned seats so it's very easy for someone to cause an issue like we saw with just thomas at honda we saw yesterday with rory and with tire coming back and so many people wanting to come back there is going to be some negative cheering out there against some of the other players which is probably what roy roy was experiencing but i can tell you i heard a couple of crazy things come out of people's mouths right right as tiger was swinging and i tried to look around to see who it was and i couldn't find them so it's just a hard thing to police but it's something i think the tour needs to monitor and sort of keep their ion way well the you know the tip the typical baba buoy mashed potatoes let's go tiger i mean somebody that's just trying to get their voice on tv and it's and.

"Those taking your penis out and kissing them doesn't so there's that roy roy more is going after kids teenagers underage people some in some of the allegations forcing them into certain acts also very different than masturbating in front of some one or kissing some one you know so look i'm not again i'm met excusing any of these i'm just saying every single one of these needs to be looked at on its own and lumping them together is dangerous yes that said we have a he clearly have a huge problem here and look there again i have so far kind of me there's you know independent rule of if you have one accused there is also different than if you have multiple accusers and i'm and and that does not excuse the one time because as we said yesterday if you murder somebody one time that's murder that is a matter that was only that you're not a serial killer like it doesn't matter so so not excusing the one timers i'm just saying again depending on what the situation was and if it is a one time only situation then maybe that put you in a different category that's what i'm saying doesn't put you in the free and clear category but maybe it puts you in the you know lesser category in some way just gross not despicable maybe right right right and again like you know i don't know how we qualify and quantify all these things but you know look i'll frank in so far and again someone can fact check me on this but so far louis c k was the first person in all of this to say yes i did it and i apologize and i was wrong uh and now al franken is done the same thing so al franken has been accused he has said he has apologized to lianne is apologizing to anyone he may have offended along the way and he has called for and accepted the the discussion of an ethics investigation by the senate around him and his behavior and said.
