You know. So it was it was it was really an intriguing thing to me don't Miss Ken Shamrock on first match wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. Wanted again is an inside look at the players, the coaches and the business of Sports with former NFL star and broadcaster ron heads in two minutes later, I was back in the same Oklahoma drill that I got the concussion from and the mastermind behind the greatest show on serve coach Mike Martz we wanNA force him into a vanilla defense and go to work Jan is a hard hitting no BS PODCAST Directly to the source this is. will go to run and again now here's run bits. Arts. We watched a lot of TV this weekend and. I don't know have you been watching any of the the basketball playoffs? No No. Okay well. I'm not I don't watch a lot but I I watch I. Watch enough to when I'm talking to our executive producer Roy Hamilton sound like I know what the Hell I'm talking about because he played an NBA Big Star Ucla so I gotTa know what I'm talking about. That experience on that eight foot bucket to that's right. I mean, yeah we that's that's given. That's a given. Okay. So So. So, anyway, we're watching the Lakers and the rockets go at it, and in of course, the rockets took game one and everybody got all excited and this and that and and Westbrook and hard. No my gosh, this is it. This is at Blah Blah Blah Blah and who knows it still may may be their year we'll see but I said to my boy I said listen. The Lakers are gonNA come back in game two inigo slap them into face I. Promise you. Know that's not that's GONNA. Say Okay. All right. You're watching the and of course they did that. But in that discussion and every time the Lakers play. We end up talking about one particular guy in his name is Lebron James in not because he's won all the championships and all of that stuff everyone knows about that part of great basketball player so and so forth. But You know they always say, Oh, well, this NBA Guy could play football. Or this guy could play football and I I think ninety nine percent of I. When they say that to me I say Hell No. But if there's one Guy Mike and I want your thoughts on this if there's one guy that I think. Could could could you think could play in the NFL I think it would be Lebron. James. Just the way he moves the way. He he his acceleration I. See him do some things like my gosh. That I would I actually would like to see him on an NFL film maybe a tight end maybe a rush I don't know. Yeah, you'd be a an outstanding prospect defensive end, but you know the the biggest thing with him. It'd be the collision part of the game you have to embrace it. That's what you never know about basketball players playing that game and. came out I remember watching cow the whole basketball thing he was only Gonzalez? Yeah and he was such an athlete and but he embraced it. You know he went forward embraced it in the collision part of the game he enjoyed and you just have to you know that's the center point of football. Period. If you don't like that that collision, not contact particular part of. That part of that game if you don't like it just not GonNa make it and you don't know about that. No matter how gifted they are until they get in. Yeah. Okay. So Taking this one step forward. Lebron had a very interesting quote. This past weekend I want you to listen to it. Here it is. It's Kinda like a you know an early two thousands when Saint Louis Rams. GREATEST SHOW ON TURF Always say how scout scouting scout them instead of got on a on a field and seeing a Isaac Bruce and Tori Houghton and Marshall. fought. Kemin autos, guys, and it was like, okay when you? Play them again because we no way you can simulate speed. Wow. So. And I've heard this before and I've heard it from some pretty knowledgeable people guys like John Madden. Who Said The one thing about playing the Saint Louis Rams. Was that what you saw on tape wasn't necessarily what you're GONNA see. On Game Day talking about the speed, you just couldn't prepare for that speed and it's it's it's amazing in my mind Mike to all these years later to hear that guy that the King Lebron James go out of context to another sport in make that comparison and he's talking about I think a little bit what the rockets just went through. You know. The rockets thought oh well, the Lakers we know what they're GONNA do and game one went like this game twos going to be like this? No no no no no. No. No. This man knows how to turn up the speed and the intensity and they weren't ready for it and he made a great point about your team back in the day in. When you guys were playing was just so much faster a different speed than people could ever prepare for. Interesting that he had the insight is the knowledge of of that game those games in that team. And use it in context like that. Just Kinda. You know he's a sports nut A. Sport History Guy in the really great players I think are they they? They know those things in have that and draw on it and draw that comparisons. Very flattering. Those guys but. You know I think he's absolutely has that understanding that the intensity in the speed throughout the game? Those teams I can maintain that they're just hard to A. I don't know if those four wide receivers were the fastest receiver group in the League I. Don't know that I do know this they played faster than everybody else. Yup they they weren't the biggest. I don't know that you had a guy over six foot. No there are five eleven just a smidgen under six feet Is Grant a very average fortieth to combine toward. You know that yeah. No, his I think combine time was poor five five. And a quarter Baiji never seen be caught not as prime anyway course had that. Great. Acceleration in Ricky Parole. They just played faster. We did but that's way we practiced. We practice with that intensive practice was harder for receivers in the Games. Condition them that way I tell you strive talking to A. Guy In, the front office or the NFL teams in. All this new data have all these little things stuck in the helmets to tell you how fast guys run during practice and how far they run all that stupid stuff and. So somebody in the front office suggested to the head coach at this receiver needs. So take fewer reps today because Iran too today for much about that. Crazy that is there's somebody has no idea what it takes to begin with to play this game and to say that he needs to take it out I. Just it just blows my mind what we did is they worked so hard. They ran Sohar two days out of the way. Wednesday and Thursday were brutal brutal brutal based form just absolutely gashed. And Friday we back-off Lobo still, pretty good day.

Great sense of purpose of you know that you gotta bring it right when you're hanging out with him. And you know you can't go halfway into anything. You're hanging out with Ron Pitts. Doesn't stop and go you. Know man you guys are too kind well. Sally and I believe. We first met at Fox sports net like thought like one hundred years ago and our. Our executive producer Roy Hamilton was producing then and showed it, did he? Did you start on their solid I? Thought we were doing the college football hall. Show yeah with Kevin Frazier, and it was all the guys in a Roy. Was the leader our member? He brought me out for an audition and he said. Hey, you're my guy. You GotTa show these other guys that you're the guy so I'm gonNA. Put you through this at Man. Who has maybe twenty guys? Twenty NFL guys came in the audition for that role, Kevin Frazier. Course he didn't have to autism. He was the man right away, and but it all worked out. And you know again you know with when Roy Hamilton anoint you. You know that you have arrived. And he gave me a great opportunity and pretty much launched my career. At the national level at that that was a tremendous opportunity for me. A Mike I is the first broadcast or I ever seen be involved in a trade. He he was working for ESPN doing sideline and I think they actually traded him for mark May who was what was market was hit CBS Sally. He was at CBS working with I N Eagle. In the broadcast booth, yeah, so solid from the sideline up to the booth, and then I went into, did he to the studio something he went to show, and he was doing college football there for for ESPN so it all worked out for market worked out for me and You know that goes coach, right? You've gotta find the players and the way you get the players. They've got to be able to perform, and that's kind of how it worked out. Yeah, one MESDAMES NANCE stoned. Right. Before we get into the business of NFL training camps, and so on so forth pro football focus. That's your company. You're working alongside Chris Collingsworth the Chris Collingsworth there in Cincinnati in this This isn't just your typical numbers. Crunching statistical outfit, is it. No pro football focus basically, we great every player on every play You say well. How is that done? Because we have a legion of former coaches all around the country, some are even over in the UK and they are. They have access to the tape and they're grading the players. You have coaches. Who have coached in college football, some coast in the NFL some no the offense of library, well some no, the secondary, very well, some Nova quarterbacks in fact, former quarterback Bruce Gronkowski sort of heads up our grading of the quarterback position, and so when you can grade every player on every play, you can come away with a pretty good snapshot for how they're playing down in and down out and and so we as we would say this in the television industry. We don't leave anything on the cutting room floor. Every single play is accounted for and goes into the evaluation process. Give me an example of something I would see from you guys that I wouldn't see from quote unquote, next Gen stats, or any other of the feels like thousands of statistical companies out there well I think coach would like this one because you know. He's had to evaluate quarterbacks. Always right you. You're out there. Trying to figure out you got three or four. The college quarterbacks you gotTa draft one or three or four at the pro level. You gotta sign one in the offseason during free agency, and so you're going to look at all the tape. Tape right in, but more importantly is sometimes at some of the plays that aren't factored into that evaluation process, and we call it turnover worthy plays, so if you are evaluating three or four different guys in their numbers kind of looked the same, the tape kind of.

"Don't let go you know. Roy Hamilton did the original version I believe it was nineteen sixty one. Maybe. Nineteen, sixty, nine, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, one Roy Hamilton did this original version, but you know Isaak's as usual. He could take a song and just turn out totally sorry, turn it upside down and make it super sexy, and that's exactly what he did with this song, and also he took Dionne Warwick. Walk on by, and just who made it hot too hot baby coming up next. We lost this gentleman. In June. On June first in the early eighties Mr David Ruffin. And I would say he was one of the great lead singers ever I feel. Of the temptations as a solo artist. This man really no one can sing like David Ruffin, I'm GonNa play for you something from album. He didn't in one, thousand, nine, hundred eighty s and I thought this was a different song because it had him singing in a lower register. Talking about I get excited and I think this song is a step is groove also I believe it is here want a bowl of soul missed the day. Rub It ruffin talking about I get excited, and this is a bowl of Seoul. This is John York and you're listening to a bowl of soul with Kerry Ferguson..

"A ten to fifteen percent chance of complete knit I think it will be difficult because it's not something either. I don't think offense has really address at much right now in the league. If it stirred fifteen, would he gonNA say? Yes, see some sort of draw or screen, and they apply today. They'll go back. You know they they don't try and get that thirteen yards. Don't do it, yeah. Well I I was talking to our executive producer Roy Hamilton played that useless Ucla and an in the NBA and he said that was very similar to the advanced the ball rule in in in the NBA under two minutes you could advance the ball and take the ball out. Basically at half court didn't have to fight precedent in. That was an attempt obviously to. Create, the more drama more exciting finishes more scoring whatever you want to say but I i. think they wanted to enhance the finish at the end of the game and I think this. This also kind of does the same thing, so this does agree absolutely now dot the net effect of it will it actually gives you a better chance? Who knows yeah, yeah, Whoa, we'll see on that. There's more there. Well before we got to ask you about this. Dak. Prescott contract so. Mr Dak has he's been offered the franchise tag, which were those of you who don't know the franchise tag will basically in a nutshell give that player, the the average of the top three at his position for one year and one year only okay. or You have the option to do a long term deal. And the cowboys are now sitting with Dak Prescott. He's been offered the franchise Nothing's been signed yet. There's rumors that he's been offered. A one hundred and seventy plus approximate million dollar deal for five years. None of this has been officially substantiated yet. They're going back and forth. This insider says that's not a this others. Insiders said this is what happened so bottom line is Mike. WH. What do you think's going to happen? There is. That seems like a lot of money for a guy. That hasn't won one for yet, but If he's. Got One, hundred, seventy million is that. Is that accurate? Yeah, yeah, what was the number? He turned down to and thirty five million a year roughly. For Five years is a bruce had a great quote he's. How much is enough. Guys just figuring how much is enough for? I don't know I. Don't know what to say about that dumped on if they offered Zach. In. He's not taking I'm. Done well, that's what I'm saying. What what what do you need in? In all fairness I i. don't know the. The the parameters of the contract. You know there's always a language discussion in things toward the end of the contract, and out outs and out-clauses and guaranteed moneys, and all of that, so there are other elements in there, but. Gosh there can't be too many other elements at one, hundred, seventy, one million for five years. During pandemic well the only thing yet, it looks bad. Feeling I would say is the terms of the contract. How much of it is real money? So if it's backloaded and that's what matters they can relate to him and he's not yet. My big deals is how much of the signing bonus where to get and that to me, that is the heart and soul a contract to know. What are they gonNA give him as a signing bonus, and then amateurs that out through five years, and what is base salary than likely to be earned. You know that's that may be a big part of it, too. So agents will will throw that those numbers out there were some of that might not hit. The Likely Ernst in unlikely all that kind of stuff. those numbers figuring as well so it's hard to know what the real numbers are that he'd be looking at it any way you look at it. I I want to know what the signing bonuses at first and foremost which he turned down in terms of the right right Sh- and if it's you know. That's substantial than. Does he deserve that kind of money I'm a big fan of his to begin with. I don't know I just don't know like you said he hasn't. Hasn't won anything yet. Really so but I think he's kind of player. I think he's absolutely one of the top three in the league. in my book, Anyway I was down there spend some time with them and got to know him in watching practice and yeah. Very special player! Yeah, so while we're here. You've got okay. The rams are different team this this year. They're going to be different. They're going to have to prove that they can. Still play at a certain level with some of the guys they've lost. Tom Brady down in Tampa. Bay and I'm talking NFC only here. Tom Brady's and Tampa Bay. The giants. We don't know we're going to get from the giants. We don't know we're GONNA. Get from anybody else in the NFC east. It feels like and in and let me say the saints. The talk is drew. BREES is a strawberries last year. Is His arm done? Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. In this Russell Wilson in Seattle It feels like the cowboys. Are loaded up and ready to go. They've got. They. They've got a coach now. They've got a guy. If if Jerry Jones leaves, them alone can probably get it done. You've got weapons. You've gotTA runner. You've got receiver. You've got a quarterback. You've got pass rushers. You've got defensive. Got Your your your your coaches. You've got things around everyone, so it feels like this is their time in. Is this is this? What's being reflected on this contract? COULD BE I just run I. Really believe that the. Cowboys are not sure about this guy completely. They're not completely in love. They got the engagement ring, but they they're holding the wedding band. They're not sure yet. Whether he's. The Guy so I'm not sure about the numbers of everything is out there, but nobody really knows. Agent, and then you don't know what he's being told by his agent to But your question. Last year be Kinda thought. was there you're to? The problem was lasser. Their corners killed them. Their corners killed them given up A. Third and ten thirteen fifteen all the pass interference, and they couldn't stop him in the Red Zone, and then they're special teams play. They had to areas where they were horrendous. In a costume if they can clean data, there's no question, but you're right about the NFC a week conference right now when you look at it on paper Green Bay You got a great argument for Green Bay with their record from last year, and you'd think he I think that they're going to be a good team like you said Seattle, but after that. There's not a dominant team in there, and who knows north may sneak in there and be real. Good again, too, but. Nobody lines up see. Nobody's going. Try The locker room like that group at the cowboys right now, NFC just that's the way it is. That's right if they can fix in. It's a huge problem. A corner.
