"roy halladay" Discussed on Big Time Baseball

"We got a team that nobody expected to be in and they're playing great against the team. Everyone expects to be in. So what? I mean, what more could you ask for? There's no question about it. And speaking of the World Series, let's talk a little bit about the World Series. All right? You, I looked it up. You are the all time save leaders for one of the teams in the World Series, correct? Correct. All right, okay. So talk to me when you watch the Phillies play now before we get into, you know, your history with Phillies, whatever. When you watch the Phillies play right now, what is your side of sort of feeling that you have? Because sometimes, you know, I don't know if it's different than watching the Red Sox play in the World Series. I don't know what is your feeling watching these games. My feeling right now is. The Phillies got nothing to lose and they're using that to their advantage and they're just, they're playing like they got nothing to lose, balls to the wall, man. And I like the Phillies in this, man. I'm gonna take the underdog, you know? So I just, you know, as a baseball player, you just get that feeling in that sense when you watch another team play, you're like, man, they're all clicking together. And that's what's happening with Philly right now. I believe in and plus the L type says leader for Philly, I got to kind of stay true to my roots. I mean, there's no question about that. The fact is, so but you know, this is so let's talk a little bit about Philly. We had talked earlier and another podcast about how when you went there, it was like, you felt like this was going to be almost a dynasty, right? I did. Yeah, so talk a little bit about that if you can about when you went there about what you expected from being in Philadelphia from the time that you were there and sort of what happened. Well, shit, man, we had myself, let me just tell you these names, myself, Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay, Jimmy Rollins, cliff Lee, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, who look, I went there, thinking I was going to win like three more championships. Honestly, and truthfully, people started getting hurt, Ruben Amaro was given the keys to a Ferrari and I felt like he wrecked it. thought these guys were all gonna just miraculously in their mid 30s recover and didn't had spent too much money and even granted that money was on me. I mean, I still feel like in my career, I mean, obviously being the stage leader still there I produced. So we just had a lot of money on the books, van and I think he just couldn't keep Hannibal water, then they had to dismantle. So when you roll up, it is incredible that you are the saves leaders for the Philadelphia Phillies. Like, people would say, oh, you were the save leader for the Red Sox, sure. But it's sort of like, you know, you came to the Phillies. It was certainly wasn't the love fest that you had in Boston. I mean, it never is when you're not a homegrown guy. I don't feel like. Or have been there for an extra long time. I mean, Philly's a great city, man. Don't get me wrong. It was a great city. I mean, I know they're having a blast right now, and I feel like they're going to have another World Series for right there. But I just happen to go there in a time where, man, it was just, they wrote a high, and I thought they were going to keep riding those highs and those NLCS appearances year after year and it just did work out, man. When you go, you came from a place in Boston. Listen, it wasn't all roses in Boston, either path, right? I mean, especially, especially your last time. Anywhere and when it covers up the roses. Yeah, it covers up the lack of roses, yes. Yes. The last time I've said this, I remember the last time you were in the Red Sox uniform, you stood in the Baltimore Clubhouse for like an hour answering questions after the last game in 2011. You talk about a Clubhouse ahead like no roses flying around that place. I mean, that was of all the good times. That was not a good time. So you know, when you're up, I like, I think we're up by what double digits going into September close to it. Yeah, best record in baseball. Yeah. Yeah. Well, listen, my question is this. Is it so when you go to Philadelphia? There's a lot of similarities. I would imagine. Maybe listen, you played in Philadelphia, I didn't. But there's a lot probably a lot of similarities in terms of the intensity when you went there. When you start there, where you went to Philadelphia, did you feel that right away? The similarity was different. I've always said that there's a lot of similarities between the two cities, for sure. But you know, I think, you know, with Philadelphia, man, I think it's just their fans are the fans that I needed to be playing in front of. No question about it. I want a fan that expects way more than what their ticket price or they feel like they should expect for their ticket price. Trust me. Look at my ERA and a day game with nobody shows up looking my ERA in a night game when the patent crew in the state is packed. So, you know, and look, I'm going up to Philly, I gotta do a show up in Phillies, you know, and so I still hit back Philly. And so I think I'm going early December, maybe, yeah. But you gotta, come on. Get in my car with me tomorrow. We'll go there tomorrow. Come on. Yeah. Well, yes. But yeah, so you make a good point. When you do well, man, you're a hero, right? Yeah. And look, I have no claws with how they treat them when they don't do well, man. Look, I said, I didn't come to Philly for this and they hated me for saying that, but then I think after I left, they realized like, man, he might have been right, you know? He came here to win this city war championships, and I got to respect that. And so that's kind of how it's always been for me there, you know? Did you feel like, you know, I feel like what you're saying is the same message that they would want to hear. Did you feel like this? It was at times that wasn't this connection. Like, you guys don't understand. Like, I want to win here. That's why I came here, and I'm frustrated that I'm not winning. And that's why I'm saying what I'm saying. Am I wrong about that? Well, as if it depends on how you take it. I mean, if you need a headline, you write it to her, you need a headline. If you don't, you know, you let it be for what it is, but man at the end of the day. I didn't care. You know, I didn't really care what the media wrote about. At the end of the day, I cared with 25 guys in that Clubhouse thought about me. And I went about my business the same way every day. You know, obviously they were some players were like, hey, pat, man, maybe chill out a little bit, you know? Yeah, you know, maybe writing is cool, come back, you know, and you have that give and take. But to me, I cared about 24 of the guys in there. And maybe your Clubhouse attendant or two. But other than that, I didn't give shit. Yeah, well, did you, so what was your favorite moment? What was your favorite moment in Philly? I mean, this is obviously because, listen, they're riding high and there's nobody I'd rather see. And by the way, they probably could use another bullpen arm. I'm not gonna lie to you, so there you go. Limber up. Well, I will tell you my favorite time in Philly was we did have a great group of guys, and my favorite part about affiliate was the plane rides. We had a as big as big league poker game as you can imagine with myself, Jimmy Rollins Chase Utley Ryan Howard Cole Hamel swiftly and I remember a lot of flights where we had to literally wait in the bus with weight on us to finish some hands. So bigger than

"Welcome to the show. All right, thanks for having me. So tell us a little bit about yourself where you are what you do and how you eventually developed the idea for MLP trade dot com. Yeah, sure. So I'm from Toronto, Canada. But I currently live in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. And I'm a teacher here. I moved away from Toronto about three years ago. Got some teaching, experience under my belt, then COVID hit. Took a little bit of time to think about what I wanted to do. And I realized I wasn't really comfortable being in the classroom all the time. So I wanted to switch up my careers. So I took a little coding course about 6 months ago and I was thinking of some ideas for projects, wanted to incorporate baseball. So I ended up doing this thing. Yeah, this is a good little project to put on your resume if you're applying coding job, I guess. What's your background as a baseball fan? I assume you were a Blue Jays fan, but how did you get hooked? Yeah, so I was born the year after back to back World Series when so I kind of missed the peak days right there. But yeah, it was my whole life. I've been to games since I was since I can remember. And actually, the main thing that got me started thinking about the trade trees was thinking about Roy Halladay. We traded Roy holiday back in. Don't remember. You probably have that information. Check the site. Exactly. We treated holiday back in. 2009. That's right. 2009. And I always like, I always thought, you know, what happened? Like, with the guys that we got for it because I just don't really remember. So yeah, so I thought about all the old days trades that we did back in the day and that kind of gave me going. Travis Darnell, Kyle Trebek, and Michael Taylor. That's right. And then got rid of Travis journal, which was also not the best trade, but you know. It was for that playoff push and complain too much about it. Sure. So I think that every writer has tried to go down this wormhole at some point. It is fertile territory in the off season in particular to look at the most lopsided trades or the most beneficial trades to your franchise, the ones you wish hadn't quite gotten away, but just from a technical perspective, I know you said you were using this sort of a jumping off point to coding, but where did you gather all of this data from and what were some of the challenges you found in trying to collate it in a specific way? Because I have to say this is I was joking before we started recording. I'm going to probably sit with this all weekend and try to just look at a bunch of different transactions and what they spun off, you know, let's try to dig deep on whether the rays are really getting the best from their trades, but what was the technical process like for you in pulling all of this together? Yeah, so it all started with that when I was thinking about Roy halliday and I wanted to look up the information. It brought me to course baseball reference dot com, see all the transaction history. And then there's just a little disclaimer under the baseball reference saying that the transaction information is from retro retro sheet. So I did a Google about retro sheet and basically the entire my entire site could not have been done without that organization. It's very, very cool. What they do over there. So if you don't know, they just basically collect all of the transaction data from the 1800s and put it all in a nice database. It's open-source. Anybody can look through it and yeah, that's where the main data came from. How did you learn to code by the way? Did you take a specific course or? I did, of course, on did some udemy stuff. Code academy stuff, lots of just figuring things out by myself. There's a lot of that. There's a lot of good resources out there. Yeah. So you get the retro sheet info and then you have to figure out how to display it all. So it's not just getting everything into a table. You had to figure out user interface, something that people could look at to trace the trade, so that's kind of complicated. I imagine. And then there's a lot of data cleanup that you have to do inevitably with this type of project, and then I messaged you via Reddit and give you another assignment because I came across your site and thought it was cool, but thought of another thing. I could heap upon you that might make it even cooler. So yeah, take us through some of the other steps because you've done a bunch of updates and made it prettier and cleaner and easier to navigate. Yeah, sure. So once I knew I could I had all the data available to me, it was basically finding out the cleanest way of presenting it in the tree format. So I found there's just an open-source Google chart. I don't know how template that you can use for websites and basically use that to display all the information that you see when you go to the site. That's my biggest thing right now is actually I want to change that whole thing because I think it can look a little bit ugly sometimes, but that's for the future..

"Nationally glassy like the giants or the dodgers. Here down this man. I tell you what i just think that i the giants have been so awesome. What a story you know. And i think they're really. I think there are really really good team. May i just feel like the dodgers are common. You know they've been making that run. They're a half game back now. Pushing hard Adding assures and turner and those guys you know at at the deadline. I think has been huge. I think the i think the dodgers overtake the giants in september. What do you think about the usage of shohei. Ohtani doing double double duty here. I love it. I love it. I think i think we're seeing who shohei Really is because when when madden was like what do you want to do. I think it's spring training. What do you want to do is like listen. I wanna hit. And i wanna pitch. I don't want to go back to taking two days off and with kid gloves. I think they took the kid gloves. Awfully say the reason you're here is because you're a once in a generation once in a lifetime player. We've never seen a guy like you like don't do it and so i think the fact that he's doing he's built to do what he's doing and i think that's why it's been such an unbelievable thing to see. Shohei do what he's doing on both sides of the ball. Well i like the story. But i wonder about long-term. Can you continue to do it. Does it take away from. I can't imagine. And i saw this at yankee stadium Couple of months ago where he's gotta face the yankees and they've got a leadoff. You pitchers spent five days preparing for a start and he's playing every single day and just that mental fatigue that you have. It's such a long season. I that's what i wonder. Is it counterproductive. Will it be counterproductive. Him and at some point. But i think he's the biggest thing with a big leaguer talking. It's your routine. hey man. what's your routine when you come to the big leagues they get. A good routine was shohei since he's obviously been been a teenager in japan has got this routine where he could start every fifth day but also hit every day. I think it is routines just different than what we know in the states. That's why we've never seen like it. So i think he's going to be able to do it i really do i think. He's got his body condition. And danny if he doesn't then he picks one of them and he'd be still one of the best players in baseball on one side of the ball but to watch him do this as long as we can't man as fans we gotta keep really enjoying it and saying we've never scanning like this. How many hall of famers did you take. I took a few deep. I don't know. Do you have the numbers. I don't know maybe like how about how about fifteen. Well then give me the one though like you took deep and you're like that pitcher might be a little. I took i took. I took. Let me see well one pops into my head two glavin deep a few times i took i hit really well against matic's Smoltz was pretty nasty. Let me see randy johnson. I never took deepest hit him. Pretty well let me see. What other big roy halladay man. Maybe i didn't go deep and that's enough. I know i hit a lot of a well but maybe not. I know i got glavin a few times. Why am i drawing blanks on hall of fame was i played against but so maybe two you went from fifteen to ten to two. I'm starting around the home. Maybe not so many okay. There's got to be one more out there somewhere. Okay you walk up to the plate for the first time against randy johnson. Yeah what are you thinking. I seriously was scary like seriously. Why walk out my first time facing. i'll never forget. I was in cincinnati. he's arizona. I walk out. He's just got the long mullet. Just six eleven is so scary. And i get up there and i remember thinking to myself. Oh my god. That's randy johnson. I got his baseball card is unbelievable next hundred outside the corner. Oh my jesus had somewhere with a hundred outside corner then ninety three mile. An hour slider ninety team on our side. And i'm like wow for dogfight here. I've never seen anything like this in my entire life. Rights like daddy. I start battling you know. I didn't strike out a lot. So i get the two. I'm like i'm not budget out to two thousand so on the unlike the seventh pitch randy johnson walks up. He gets like ten feet from the from the frigging on the plate. He snatches the ball and looks at me. Like oh my god. I just wanna get the hell out of here. So the neck h. i. Grounded out and i was running i. I was like desert greatest ground. It'd be it's great to talk to you man. Hope you're well. I did a great job. Me on sean casey. Now you know why he was called the mayor. The fact randy johnson like ten feet away gone major league baseball network three time national league. All-star sean across mlb network's programming plus check out his new podcast. The mayor's office. Paul in iowa joins us on the program. Hi paul what do you have. Hey dan i up you know. I'm twenty six years young. And i'd like to announce the my continuing football career at bishop. Sycamore you may be on the younger side. Though thank you paul. yeah five. Eleven one seventy five. I hear they need to kick her But really my call today. Is i want to ask you about this hobby by a situation and where does this fit into the unwritten rules of major league. Baseball does this kind of equate to when randy moss gave them moon. Thank you. I had no problem with me randy. Moss didn't pull down. He pulled down his pants or give the impression he was pulling down his pants. I joe buck made it worse than what it was. Because if you just hear the call. You like mike witted randy moss do i. I don't know it's not like he actually pulled his pants down. Joe buck made it sound like he did truly moon you but you know the the unwritten rules these are new york fans. You love the passion but then you can't go. Oh man you got too much passion you guys care too much. He came from chicago. Where you're probably not getting booed. And you want a world series there. By the way we did reach out to coaching. staff at bishop's sycamore the fictitious high school. And they were not available. We were told by somebody that we had to pay like. What kind of compensation could we give to. One of the coaches who would be joining us. Fritzy you had the interaction there with them. I did and there was a message back to me. Basically saying you know what type of compensations involved. because while they're going through all this duress and stress and everything i guess maybe they would feel better if they would getting money for coming on okay but but how. We don't pay guests. You're not do. I like fifty dollars. One hundred and like how much is enough. Like how much is it for. A high school coach a fair question by the way the highschool coach just got fired. Didn't he at bishop's sycamore. So you probably got up a little bit to make up for that. Maybe it's closer to one hundred dollars for foot edmund. My question when mclovin sent this to me yesterday goes yeah and the head coach of bishops. Sycamore got fired. And i go by. Who do they have any adults who are affiliated with the program. Gmo or the team. That's i didn't know. I i wasn't sure who this was. That would fire the coach. Yes mclovin is afraid to say this yesterday. But i think we should have paid for the guy. Aren't you dying to know what he would say. You know what fritzy said. Hey i'm going to reach out. And i said yeah i'd be interested to hear from this coach of how he's pulled this fraud off and got on. Espn to play one of the better schools in the country. And he's got kids who aren't even in high school they.

"That if mack jones was started was drafted last year started a quarterback sucked through. I think candidate he touched pasture. Should have a touchdown passes. Zolak was down the practice and mack jones was dancing around to bruce springsteen in between do i think i would say you should cut that shit out i do. I do believe that right. I mean i just. I just do but but that being said it almost doesn't like you can't you just can't we live in the world now. You just can't say that you just can't as often the case. It's way more racist to hear that sentence and think he must hate black people. They're referring to blacks because rap is for black dog whistle stuff and nuts. And so i talked to jerry about it. We'll get to that. Sorta come on. Jerry said if jerry said do you think it's just the fact that he said rap music. I said absolutely not if scott zolak saying the black quarterback should stop dancing around and listening to music. He'd be just as fucking crucify them. And you just you just give its first of all. It's a stupid take anyway. That's just an old man. Yeah it's just dom point like there's no but i also think he's the one of the world's great minds i think he's down there trying to say something and he says it and then but i mean if fucking why did that stupid. We'll because because all all she sucks he looks like he's having a grand old touchy brady. I see brady do this. I see all these guys now. They'll brady's the best quarterback of all time. I mean this is what athletes do nowadays like i am i saw watch fucking bryson shambo before round this morning at head guy. This is not. This is not a big deal. Do you think cam. Newton wasn't fucking dancing around. John even know if he was or listening to music in between plays like thirty five touchdown passes last year. No of course not no. We'll take that win like the have been doing that for years. Twenty years ago this was a story. All the like fucking. Joe horn pulled a cell phone out of the te'o signing. Footballs and shit right. Like this conversation happened every week. Now i'd name two black guys. I guess so. Maybe they were racist then too but like the celebration. It's an get off my on old man type of thing. It's not a race i gotta thank you i just i just yeah i mean again. Zoellick's the other thing is kinda guy wants to keep your job but she did. He kind of rolled over but she had to tonight on the pre-game show like been you just can't say stuff like that but i mean that's that's that's the rules like you wanna go and that's okay like i guess if you wanna keep that job you know the minute that happens and it says this is what's going to happen and i don't guess that i personally don't think it came from a place of racism you know that's just my take on it. I know the guy. He seems like a good guy. I don't think i just. I don't see it now. People will hear this and say fuck you're talking about. They're probably right. And i don't know but like i heard it and i thought oh you know but i also have pretty good knows on stuff blowing up and i was like. Oh this one's gonna be big. Tmz it and i was like well. You know. I don't know what's going to happen. They cut the part where he was like. Unless it's leonard skittered but again i would just say you know. I don't know. I think if a white quarterback i think he'd had the same old man take about right so that's it and now we're we're a place where people trying to bring people down the happens all the time and this is where you know. my othon is a study in where You know iae sucks at this or has in the past in ninety five is great at it. So you know. If i had said this the pastor jerry or dino or whoever someone on the air if you know we'll get to the fact how the media would have handled for this It would have been big and we would have gone on the air. The next day in talked about god after our critics which would have made it even bigger and bigger and bigger ninety eight five is like everyone shut the fuck up. Nobody say anything. Nobody tweet anything. Zo going the patriots pre-game show just give your you know. Frankly i'm sure bullshit apology And then it's going to just drift away with the next happens. No one's gonna lose their job. They spend a day and sensitivity. Training is not going to be in the beds. Yuck in the fights with djamil hill twitter. It's not going to be counter productive for businesses from it from a content sense. It sucks but from a business sense it just kind of keep the keep the fucking. Keep the ship going downstream fucking great. He i would fuck this up. Every which way possible did he. Just in contrast the. I go after him for this at all. I didn't realize from the curtain ken. talked about on their weekend show. Somebody tweeted me. I tweeted dave and israeli adrian wiggins on and jimmy wiggins was like pretty upset about it so i imagine he'll probably talk about it tomorrow. I don't know that. I mean you know they should. I mean it's it's a great talker. It's a great topic. Because i waltz local and secondly you know it's it's it's going to generate interest but i don't you know like a couple years ago felder Sort of step. Yes semi famously. In boston after roy halladay There's only one person who protested that thing but like it was a stupid thing to say. obviously he's mocking guy. Who just died. Who kids fucking stupid right. I mean obviously i was making a parody of fake outrage to it but like i think they i think. Tv suspended from think. Ninety five didn't know face he was on and he talked about you like the one laugh i got was. That was the next day right. Yeah so he so he started to show it and then it was never discussed again. They never talk about it again. That's again if you want to keep your job and you don't care about addressing topics or being whatever. Whatever that word is that we do like they're great at. That's why they're that's part of the reason why they're more successful and part of the reason why they stay out of like big trouble. This would have been if jerry. Jerry said this in two thousand seventeen with meat or something would have been the biggest story in boston for e would've got fired like i am convinced they would have fired him well. Dave told me chad fan. Didn't even read about. Well wanted to get to that too so Let me tell you what better help i..

"A cocktail corier dot com. I didn't want to move on from that. Met series with the phillies. Just yet because we got to. We've got a f- fillet joe. Zack wheeler mar. Yeah cg shut yeah. He's very emotional. Day pretty awesome day bills fans and even the phillies fans. Who didn't get to go to the ballpark We saw videos on on the tweet box of an awesome set. Homeys altogether who hung a roy. Halladay jersey up on their. Lamppost stood back. Listen to the national anthem. Played hands over the hearts i. It was a beautiful beautiful scene. That was unfolding in the ballpark as well on a day. Where you're retiring roy. Holidays jersey you. You only have one option. And that's to go out and absolutely shove. Like what else could you possibly to. And that's exactly what zack wheeler did. Cg showpiece levin punches dude was buckets of filth. After the first batter game he retired. Twenty two straight. Men's yeah twenty. Two in a row The most retired. But if bill's starter sense roy holidays perfect game. If i mean that's awesome. How how who is that the coolest you know. You've got the hand of the dock reaching down through the clouds. Just make sure everything is right in your world like you are on the mound on the day that a baseball god is being celebrated like good things happen to good people. And it's even better. That zack wheeler who had just gotten breaded up by the fills. So hey you man this electric bucking on. We've been watching. We want you on our hill leading our charge into october. Sound good sounds fantastic. That's what he did but the clothes on his back. Let's roll on a day. Where i said man you got that kind of emotion as a pitcher when something like that's happening like it's just like you feel it because you don't want to go out there and shit the bed absolutely do not want to do now so not only does he go out and shove for a team who has pegged him as the tip of their spear he does it against a club not necessarily the same movers and shakers in the front office but.

So what we do is when someone has an idea. We want to know if it's right or wrong. We wanna put it to the sweet spot test. The sweet spot is at the intersection. Fob of what you do best and what you love. The most now yard gave us a clue And so i wrote it down. We wanna look at what you do best. That's talent string skills and then what you love to do most work that makes your heart come alive. All right so underneath passion. I wrote planning because you said. I love planning so i scribbled that down really quick. Tell me what other types of roles or functions are task that you just get really excited about. I think creating something that it works emotions. It can be Movie clip a presentation a two minutes speech or like. I said being in the backstage knowing that somebody's gonna talk. And i'm supporting them and i'm putting them on schedule and but being hard of something. That is vokes emotion dot dotted. I love that. That's so good right now. Let's go over to the talent side things. You do best if i interview people that know you father and i said. Tell me the top things that he does better than anything else that she does. What would they tell me. I'm good with numbers and i'm to analyze reports. I'm a good communicator. and training. I think okay great Go out one more thing. give me one more. there's no wrong answer. what else i think. Good public speaking public speaking. Okay very good. So i wrote that down with communicating okay. So that's the same thing all right now. If i was gonna make you choose between being that echo academic guide advisor or planning conferences. So you really going to be a logistics event. Planner coordinator event producer. Whatever if if. I had to make you choose today. Which one would you choose. I than planning to conference why. That's why i'm sure. But maybe because in part because has done some of that. So i hope you'll comfortable. Yeah but i mean. How much do you love that you love. How much do you love the whole concept of thinking about it analyzing what needs to be done coming up with a list executing communicating all the different players. How much you love being a part of that to win the events over and everybody goes. Wow what a great event how much you love the idea that you were a huge part of a smooth and successful and efficient event. I'd do you love idiom. I can hear you smiling. Everybody else can literally take your cheeks cracking. Now bobby your. Let's just look at this. Does this in your sweet spot does be an event planner. Allow you to be in your sweet spot. Well let's go back. You said you really good analyzing things. You're good at communicating. You said your number person. But i think you're a pattern person. You're a detail person. You didn't say that. But i guess you are that true To some extent okay and then the passion side. Is you love planning things that evoke emotion. That's what you said. So would this role of being an event coordinator producer planner. Would that be right in the middle of your sweet spot. Yes it is. So now the question becomes. What is it going to take for you to get qualified. What are you have to learn due to get qualified. How much is going to cost you. How long is it going to take. So we've gotten clear. Now we gotta get qualified and so. Do you know what it takes to get qualified more or less like i said it's it's something that i've done Roy halladay degree in marketing. And and my past jobs have been planning Certainly beds that. I haven't get to conference side. I guess he was planning events for for comedy. But that's difficult. That's a difficult. So here's your homework assignment. Your homework assignment is do some research on companies that are doing events. Maybe they're convention based company a lot of live events. They may do. Anyone could be any industry by the way. Don't limit yourself to anyone. Industry you work for a real estate company. Does a lot of events You could do a you worked for a local convention center that is bringing in events all the time that give tremendous variety. I'm giving you some ideas but your homework assignment is to identify all the different ways that you could do what it is that you just described the folks. This is what.

"Surprise me at all so blues fans should be very encouraged with what we're seeing and what have right now and i know it's really easy to come off an all star game high known and i know we're going to transition into that soon but while we're here though coming off an all star game which was way better than anticipated it to be and those years actually looked better with them wearing them than we saw. I'm glad they put the canadian flag on the on the heart. That was a good touch. The all star are the fourth of july thing. Yeah and no. I just think it was a good touch. I think it was a really good display and bluejays fans should be proud and excited at least for the future. Maybe not the immediate future but at least for the long-term future at these two players in particular stops right at the end. But we'll get we'll to that point bring you back up front in your thoughts at the wrap up this conversation about the all star game. I wanna point out. Really quick though pope To your point shot adam. He is now officially one hundred. Sixty two games and major league baseball basically to close out the first avenue season and he's bat a mere three hundred with thirty two home runs. One hundred and one rb is twenty stolen. Bases one hundred. Twenty one runs scored. I'm guessing jays twitter account. Then i guess what i'm looking at. That's where you're going when you start with that. But no i'll on sorry guys turn be the he's gonna be Getting his fair share of all star vote ends as well and be in the starting lineup. Maybe not every year. But he's the kind of guy he'll be a perennial all star as well. So you definitely gonna have to blue jays. All stars moving forward. I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two. You throw pitcher in there as well. The next five to seven all star games are probably going to be at least three blue jays. If not more and that's awesome considering that we're so many years of just one blue jay being roy halladay jose bautista a couple years when they had what i think there was one year that even at six in with michael saunders. Getting that last vote in sixteen. So we're getting back to that stage and the fact that there three blue jays starting lineup and you heard the toronto blue jays name called three times during the intros was just unreal. Is because i can just picture some random sitting there who doesn't pay attention to baseball that much was like. Wow the jays actually have some really damn good players. I wonder how they're doing and they must be surprised that there are only forty five forty two but john. Smoltz settled abroad. Gases like this offense is incredible. Just imagine if they had a little bit pitching and that's the theme of the second half of the season. Let's see what you trying to reorder my agenda see. I was trying to steer toward youth movement. So go to draft but okay fine trade talks. I see how you're so but anyway before we get into the trade dogs. I know we're going to spend way more time on that. And i would probably be a ton of this episode and i wanna be able to focus on that. Let's knock them. I'll be draft stuff right out of the way here really quick. He's the blue jays actually had a sneaky good draft for a team that we had what the twenty second pick or something like that nice..

"You can do some sort of modified corn team. Now i know that that's going to be a problem with the union and i know that that be problems with major league baseball but like i can't remember what the hotel is in The dome anymore. It was the renaissance for years Church hand you can use. Yeah you can do some kind of modified quarantine with the elevators from that hotel. Go right down the field level like that's not an issue. You can rope off their own elevator to go from one floor. You come out right at the fields ads. Not a huge deal other than that. They need to come home. They need to come home. There's no reason why they can't like you said about the canadians playing in montreal. They have thirty five hundred fans and making thousand seater arena. Dome holds close to fifty thousand. We should be able to put there. Were days where. I've been to the dome and there's like ten thousand people in there and like you have a rodeo yourself now place. There's no reason why. Days when roy halladay wasn't pitching in the angry. There's no reason that you couldn't put ten or fifteen thousand people if that's the threshold that you want and everybody feeling safe in that place. There's no reason there's no other point. That is the max capacity right now of the salen field and they're not filling it. They're not failing. Mind you you can get tickets right behind the plate for like sixty eight bucks for the series against texas. I was of just around with that. Wait the last minute. They sell enough for twenty nine dollars. Yup do you want to know what the on toronto just tuesday against baltimore. Those guy those it'd be like one hundred fifty two five hundred bucks easily. Easterly with a comeback to her all of a sudden. Yeah and the assets games now. They're not restricted. So nobody wants to go and there's already people selling second hand tickets on stubhub for july thirtieth oops allow. It's a dirty game ticket up here. "The whole game with them and we were hoping to get more of this youtube stuff that we do now or we can actually interact with fans and stuff. I think next youtube game to save blue jays fans from the youtube feed. We should actually do again. Thought about idea. We can have our own little blue jay party so blue jays fans next few to game. I think we're going to have to make sure we give everybody a nice warm place to congregate rather than hearing the crap. That's going on this broadcast as vanity. At all they up tonight they should take well. Tomorrow is probably going to be their toughest game. Because it's against you say kukuchi who's had a nice season. But also i'm john review is going tomorrow. Craig give us a prediction not for the game that we really predict but the next two games. Just these two games with the mariners. Do they split it or do. They ended up sweeping the series and winning the whole series. Three nothing. i need him a sweep. I'm sorry to say that there would like you say with sheffield having as my browns easy ad and i don't care going on tomorrow with pitching we have our ase on amount and not going to be mean or anything. I know it's day game candidate day but I think they could squeak tomorrow. And maybe it's something like a a four three or four to ball game. They end up winning day. They need to sweep to be perfectly honest with you if they win tonight. They're six games above five hundred. Forty two thirty six and the rays are falling quickly. Ever since they took over the yankees right. A- trading in the right direction craig's over last while it's starting to be fixed the bullpen with Us but yes. "There's there's not another name. I think that players in today's game. I don't know it depends on. How many appreciate the history of the game and but yeah roy. When it comes to arms for the blue jays. Roy halladay is a guy that is front and center front and center so no argument from me on roy halladay. Who's your number two. Oh i mean it's tough not to touch them all. Yeah it's it's of all as it's the only fucking got. I know i know i'm with you. He's my number. two joe. carter has to be number. Two gotta be is even on the list. I don't know that he was even on our list. He what he wasn't on the list. Why is he not on the list because it was it was one hit versus versus a career. Yeah that's like the red sox. Put like dave roberts on their mount rushmore. But honestly like. I don't know and i would have to ask. Maybe we'll even send this tweet out to jays fans but do you can do. I don't know dude. How hard is it to to rushmore. Without joe carter on the fucking mount rushmore. Yeah i because. I mean here in toronto aside from play every day we don't we're fucking series. That was the thing like when we set up the criteria. Not as like are the top. Four wins above replacement leaders and franchise like. We're not like we're when you think blue jays you think x. We think. Roy halladay. We think joe carter and there a number of names that you continue to consider from a like a whole career perspective. Like obviously like roberto alomar. Sorry sorry about it but you're not actually. I don't think we are that sorry. I don't think we are that sorry about it. But roberto elmar is not going to make the list so that opens. I think that's how it happens. Is under normal circumstances if roberto almar hadn't gotten cancelled then that's the joe carter spot but he is canceled. So roberto almar comes down. Now you have. Roy halladay the roberto almar spot goes to joe carter right then. You've got very obviously jose bautista. Joe bats i mean. We've got a lot of emotion built in to this mount rushmore here. Yeah i mean these guys who have had moments like halliday has the career. Joe carter has the moment and i mean it's not like it's not like batista only had the walk off homers. He's you know he's got fifty bombs seasons in toronto he. I think i think you attribute the rebirth of passion for baseball in toronto to jose bautista. I mean you could make the case. And i know that this may even sound blasphemous. Joey bats made baseball more popular in toronto than roy. Halladay did I think that's a fair assessment because that one shining moment. The rogers centre was rocking for jose. Jose batista era more. So and like you know that's more you could turn right around and say that that's more of a team accomplishment because jose bautista is team made it to the postseason whereas roy halladay was awarded. The same opportunity was there. So i think we're discussing the greatness of roy halladay and the greatness of jose in a jays uniform right. That's not what we're talking about here. No we're talking about like moments. Like who i think you know it had roy halladay had better team placed around him. Then he goes out and throws a no hitter in the postseason for the blue jays. Not the phillies. I just think that. I think there's there. There was like a ray bork situation. They roy halladay. Getting traded wasn't like mookie betts like. Oh we need to. We can't pay this guy so let's trade him. It was more like you know what we suck. You still have a lot left in the tank. We want you to go out and try and win a championship. It's not going to happen for you here. So let's get you to a team that can actually you win a championship because we appreciate the loyalty. I'm sure i'm sure roy. Halladay would have loved to have stayed in toronto for his whole career. But they weren't gonna fucking win when when they by the time. The toronto traded roy halladay. They weren't anywhere fucking close to contending for a championship. so yeah i yeah holiday carter bautista. You've got holiday. Carter and joe bats and we've got some guys left here that that that needs to be in this conversation here. Tony fernandez rest in peace. Mr beyond is debuted. With jay's what in eighty three played with them through nineteen ninety and then i think rejoined the club again. Ninety eight ninety nine maybe three time all star four time gold. Glove winner the let. Mlb in triples thing in nineteen ninety does does he have hits all time for the toronto blue jays. See the all time hits leader. Say but you've got since you've got tony fernandez. What about a guy. Like carlos. Delgado i mean us. Delgado delgado is online. I mean carlos delgado was also got my fourth was a force offensive. War number one. Slugging percentage number one opie s number. One games played with tony fernandez and hits like you said runs. Scored delgado played appearances. Delgado total basis delgado doubles delgado home. Runs delgado delgado.

"And he's doing what roy halladay did. I have not felt this other than two months of david price. And we've said this before Other than two months david price. I've never felt so confident in the blue jays. Pitcher every five days to go out there and win a game and go into the seventh inning or even just a few minutes of. It's not a full seven. he's a stopper. He puts wins losing streaks to bed in the hopes hopefully winning streak and he continued it today or yesterday. An end of the day so reused he's unreal. There's nothing there's nothing else to say about him. Yeah and more or less the mvp outside of that if doesn't have the performance as everybody's talking to oscar hernandez and swept under the rug a little bit with watching the ace of young jin ryu just run away with this game But two home runs for him in three rb is in a in a four run game. You know that it's the same thing as laddy did the night before you know. He's put the team on his back and said hey guys running with it tonight. Don't worry about this. I got it and it. It's very encouraging and i think that will we'll talk about like what are takeaways for the whatnot in the week are here in a sec. Your by the biggest takeaway we have over. The last week was the fact that they had this passed the baton mentality throughout the whole team whether it's in the bullpen. The starting rotation throughout the bench and into the lineup. Whatever it is the blue jays have been able to find a way to get something to contribute every night. And i think that is the biggest thing of this team. I actually think that the marketing department hit it. Out of the ballpark will be here with the blue grit idea bluejays here. They really need start. Hashtag shit out of that happened. We had to come together thing and then all. Oh we'll got. We're going to run with this nonsense that we've had they actually finally got another slogan like but that's right and they've not even doing anything with it but how encouraging is it to see that you guys would take oscar. The rug with us with the offense finally really click in. It's not just one person running with it like it was earlier in the season. Yeah it's certainly good to have that sort of backup on it. Even though he's an everyday player You know being off with kobe at the time Having him come back in. And i think it was brennan. You're concerned with how you would adapt coming back because there have been some players and athletes have been unfavourable in that aspect but when it comes to oscar. He never missed a beat. I want to say his game his first game back actually from covert hit a home run..

"Think that when you had that aura. It's almost like big papi. S when you had that or you're just trying to have fun. It bleeds to the other players on your team and going back to remand and phenomenal like watching. That performance is like watching picasso. He's just like a speaking are out there and paint list. And it's just it's massaging the driving them in for for power even though he has the ability to do that and she saggio it into the place and it's just it's perfect it's it. We haven't had a pitcher like this. Maybe since price because price was that good when he pitched i and fifteen but before that since maybe all day and even though you know the he might not be as talented as roy halladay and that's not a knock on real at all just halladay was just a beast itself. But the way he approaches the game reminds me a lot of early even though i think a better pitcher than burly just as approach in at the speed in which he pitches in the confidence and just let us go primarily spiro. Yes yes by the time. The blue jays supper early. That was not the same guy we watched with the white sox for years throwing no hitter games but ryu is definitely a par above and unsung hero of major league. Baseball pitchers in that stat. I dropped on you guys a few minutes ago. Nobody would even expecting list or like be in the top five at the ten major league baseball pitchers when they're doing the mlb network countdowns and stuff like that and he was number nine on that list. He snuck in so just saying a lot and the fact that he does do that is just insane and we get to play bitter. Six day is great. Yeah i feel like if if we were in the mindset of being an opposing fan whether it's over the last few weeks a yankees fan probably be like how the hell does this guy who tops out at ninety one on his hospital. Pitch make aaron judge. Enduring carlos stanton late on a fastball. Yes why he would be the guy that drives me nuts being posing because men his egypt seems so hannibal. He doesn't throw hard but he's is. Yeah i it's a picasso. It's the best way of putting out of it really is yeah of these three players like it. It's really hard for even you sort of joked about it but we're serious brennan about just being confident and all three. I don't understand how you can't be right. And i think when you have real coming out every fifth or say you know what you're going to expect here on out and with the addition of laddy being just so confident being confident and once you think they're producing well now which they are waiting until springer's in this lineup right. Because the i. I sincerely think that even though they might not be feature imagine bo batting third and springer i in or both second re. Let's try that. "And in rural areas, and that's where a lot of these drivers come from These NASCAR drivers. Island Co. Winky was was a great dude. He died young. In a believer was a helicopter crash. And it wasn't on the track, huh? And I remember when my I was with my dad when he got the news and my dad, My dad cried. It's his plane crash was in a plane crash. Yeah. What year was that? Let me look to see what your he was. He was a rising star 1993 April 1st 1993 NASCAR Rising star he was returning from an appearance. At the Knoxville Hooters on the Kingston Pike. So crazy that a plane crashed. The plane slowed and crashes before final approach it trying to these regional airport. How many people and we've lost so many Celebrity type people in small plane crashes. You know how many rock stars have died in plane crashes? A bunch. Stevie Ray Vaughan in the helicopter. Leonard Skinner died in that plane crash that there's been there's been so many of them. I guess. I guess if you want a celebrity, and you died in a plane crash, nobody would hear about it. So maybe that's what it is. But it does seem like We've lost a lot of Beloved Celebrities, athletes, musicians and those types of crashes. You have Kate Junior's another one. Roy Halladay. Just a couple years ago we were talking you, Alan Quick. He was only 38 when he died. I know. Like he was big and he was going to get even bigger. And I totally get why baseball Is not popular with the younger generation. It just moves too slow. It's too slow of a game. It's funny that you say that because I love baseball, but I grew up playing it and I've watched it my whole life. And, of course, working here. We get tickets to the Rockies games when things were normal. But a lot of my friends my age. Don't have any interest in it. No, no Want to even I mean they enjoy going to the games, but they won't watch it on TV for anything. Well, Baseball is not a good TV sport. Baseball's a sport. You want to go see in person Kind of like like auto racing, right? It's way better in person. It's just a way that her experience baseball moves too slow for TV. Baseball TV ratings are not good. On. It's hard to sit there and watch nine innings of baseball on TV. Why? What do you laughing about Just laughing about when I used to sit in the room when I worked at the Rockies when I was an intern every day, my job was to come in and log every game. Right down on strike. Did you fall asleep Every time you would fall asleep? See? Yeah, that's got to be a brutal job every time I have to write, and, you know, because they need a log of the game. Right? So they had me charted off. It was the first season that the Rockies played. And every time they come into the room, I'd be snoring. Oh, well, and you kept that job or you are an interesting Oh, you're not being paid, stopping paid, and then they finally move me to another department. Their price. Marty link, right? This is not for her. You know me back then. I had like narcolepsy. I swear, I thought really, where I would fall asleep every everywhere. It didn't matter where I was just always fall asleep. Are you jealous of that now? Yeah. Sleep anywhere. I go. I loved baseball as a kid on in Was a big big fan. But as an adult not as much. And the older I've gotten, I watch every Rockies game. But the Rockies games air on at a time when I'm winding down to go to bed. And for me, watching baseball is very relaxing. The pace of the game. It just really puts me in a relaxing place and sets me up to go to sleep. It definitely doesn't raise your heart like it's like, like, go. They're like my moments that you like. Oh, this is exciting. And then the rest is I love baseball, but it's all watch every playoff baseball game for sure, Just because the intensity is so much Greater the every pitch matters. Every move matter so way, but only tuned in during the playoffs. All sports is great. Absolutely billion. Denver joins us, Eh, Billy? Hey. Hey, Are you guys doing today? Doing good. Hey, um, something flawed with these with these popularity, Uh, stats because when I look in attendance, I'm looking at the size of you feel a stadium where the Bruins play and the Trojans, which is in a separate stadium. 100,000 Plus and not every state even has a pro football team. So when you say by most popular and they sell these college stadiums out every Saturday, or the seats are filled every Saturday, and you most states have multiple college. I mean, I'm looking like Let's take Invesco here. Okay, uh, you still have see you still have CSU. You got northern Colorado. They all have stadiums. Why only doesn't have a protein. Neither does Alabama. Yet they have They said. I mean University of Alabama and Auburn. It put 100 grand in those seats every century. Yeah, I'm surprised Colors. Football isn't right behind NFL. Yeah, in popularity. You know what I mean? Dude, I totally get it. Yeah, I'm looking at you. Take take the Oregon Ducks, for instance. They got a pro basketball team. Oregon doesn't have a pro football team. No. Yeah, I totally get that. I'm a little surprised that that is well. Well, you know, it's kind of regional. You know their college football's my favorite sport, But you get.
