North Carolina Gov. vows to give women most access possible with new abortion ban
"North Carolina's democratic governor vows to give women the most access possible following the state's new 12 week abortion ban, which takes effect July 1st. Meanwhile, Nebraska's legislature also passed a 12 week abortion ban and restrictions on gender affirming care for minors. North Carolina governor Roy Cooper had vetoed the legislation, but the states Republican led assembly voted to override that veto. We're going to make sure that this bill gets implemented in a way that we provide the most access possible to women. He also says the bill was contradictory, conflicting, confusing, and open to interpretation while not a compromise. This is in no way a reasonable compromise as Republicans have presented it. It's a compromise between the right wing and the radical right wing. Cooper made his comments on NBC's meet the press. I'm Julie Walker.

North Carolina governor vetoes abortion limits, launches override showdown
"North Carolina's democratic governor has vetoed legislation that would have banned nearly all abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy. The veto came Saturday during a public rally as hundreds of abortion rights activists and voters watched as governor Roy Cooper affixed his veto stamp to the bill, which also places additional restrictions on physicians, abortion clinics, and the women seeking the procedure. The governor's veto launches a major test for leaders of the GOP controlled General Assembly to attempt to override it. Cooper is a strong abortion rights supporter. He had until Sunday Night to act on the measure that would tighten current state law that bans most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. I'm Julie Walker

Biden reelection bid faces resistance from some Democrats
"Many Democrats in the traditionally influential swing state of New Hampshire are unhappy with Joe Biden. Many New Hampshire rank and file Democrats are upset with President Biden, for supporting South Carolina's successful bid to hold the nation's earliest presidential primary. Republican governor Chris sununu called the calendar shift a horrible miscalculation that could cost Biden the nomination. Concerns in New Hampshire run deeper in line with polls that show Democrats nationwide oppose the 80 year old's reelection plans, voters cited Biden's age, his lack of support among progressives and the messy withdrawal from Afghanistan, former New Hampshire House speaker Steve shirt left campaign with Biden in 2019 and 2020, but on the eve of a new election season asked if he wants Biden to run again, shirtless says in my heart of hearts know Biden's allies privately believe the primary dispute will be long forgotten North Carolina governor Roy Cooper says voters asked Biden to do one job in 2020, defeat president Trump. And now Cooper says he's going to do it again. I'm Jennifer King.

"Energize voters in a way that perhaps would ease people's minds and to sort of raise this questions which you know I'm often asked about. It's like, where's the bench? Where is the talent? If you look at Republican field, you've got someone like Ronda Sanders, but there are a bunch of them. And there's a perception that has this party kind of does it not have that young talent. So I'm just sort of curious whether that's actually a fair assessment or whether, you know, people just don't want to kind of step up and show themselves. It's interesting. I think when a party is in power, the bench necessarily withers because there's a limit on how far people can go. We saw this during the Obama administration, the bench, I remember in 2016, everyone was talking about how short democratic bench was. We also heard this going back to 2008 after the Bush White House. They had to dredge up John McCain to run against Barack Obama. So I think all parties in power have the problem here is that you have these lingering doubts about Joe Biden and to flops point about people would feel safer if there was someone waiting in the wings waiting to take over someone younger and of a new generation, people would feel a lot better about that. And so that problem is just getting highlighted more now because of the circumstances that we're in. And there's also a structural problem I think when you're the president and your party isn't power. I mean, there's no clean and easy way to swap out Kamala Harris for any of the other Democrats. And if this were a wide open primary, I actually do think Democrats that have a pretty decent bench. You'd have Pete Buttigieg You'd have potentially governors like Roy Cooper and North Carolina, Wes Moore, my new governor in Maryland and all sorts of younger names who have been waiting in the wings. Including people in Congress, ro Khanna, I think, wants to take on the mantle of Bernie Sanders and run when he gets a chance. But of course, none of these people can do that if Joe Biden is going to run again in 2024, which everybody in the party thinks that he is. So the problem that I hear from a lot of Democrats who are worried about Kamala Harris lack of strong appeal is that they're really trapped with it. There's nothing they can do to sort of swap her out. And so the best thing to do is just kind of move on and try and focus on it. So you don't see any circumstance under which Biden would go with a different vice president this time. None. I'm alive. I mean, it would be, how would you do it? And doubly so, no Democrat would ever try to make the argument that the Democrats need a new voice and run against a sitting president. I don't think you're going to have a reprise of 1980 where Ted Kennedy primaries sitting president and Jimmy Carter. All of the top tier names like Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, Illinois, governor JB pritzker, who people talk about as being ready to run now, are saying they're not doing that as long as Joe Biden's in the race.
