Understanding 'church and state' in Brazil

"Today's show. We'll look at a couple of places which is and politicians make pretty unabashed best use of each other and at one country where a critical mass of the population seems to have grown tired of the arrangement. We'll stop in Brazil who's new president. Cheyenne Shaya Bolsonaro. One power on campaign heavily geared towards the least generous impulses Brazil's traditional Catholic believers and it's increasingly influential and rather less tolerant evangelical converts joining me to discuss. This is Antonio San Pyo research associate for conflict security and development at the International Institute for Strategic Agents Studies. Antonio I'll start with the very basics generally right now how religious a country is Brazil. Well Brazil is a very religious country. People's religion is quite important for their dentists. Mostly although obviously in the big urban centers in the southeast where people are wealthier and more connected to coacher and things this tends to be a bit smaller but resists to a very large Catholic country. There are a lot of. Catholics is by far the majority the Evangelical Population Elation Brazil has experienced tremendous growth in recent decades and it is estimated now that there are about thirty percent of the population identifying themselves as if Angelico but this population is divided in several different nations different churches but these population tends to be extremely conservative -servative in social terms in terms of controversial social freedom issues like gay marriage abortion and other issues. We'll come back to the van Jellicoe presently because they are a relatively recent arrival certainly in the Brazilian political sphere at least to the extent they now operate if we look at the Catholic Church in particular which is as you point out historically the root of Brazilian faith. How politically active or influential? Have they been. The Catholic. Search has been relatively modest or discreet in terms of politics in never officially endorses. Any candidates TASR assumed for itself a role as an actor and a supporting pillar in the more impoverished communities in Brazil Brazil as a country with large areas that are extremely poor and marginalized It is very important in urban areas. Where the poor resort to religion as an escape scape from the realities from the marginalization that the broader society and the broader economy regard them with so it is an important factor in social terms but politically medically? It hasn't had a lot of influence in Brazilian politics at least in this current era of democracy since the mid nineteen eighties. So is it fair to say. Even the evangelical more explicitly politically ambitious in the Catholic Church. was they want to take more direct role in Brazilian politics. Absolutely I believe and have been by far more active and more proactive in seeking political influence the Evangelical priests in their churches especially those of the biggest searching in Brazil such as the Universal Church of God the occasion of your cell to Hanes deals led by Juma do it you must see a do also owns a very large. TV Station in Brazil called record TV and he hasn't being extremely vocal but he has given even some public comments supporting able scenario the far-right candidate that ended up winning the elections now. The president of Brazil and there are several media reports showing how even though the public indoctrination or public mention of candidates and support in the church during ceremonies themselves themselves are quite discreet or sometimes completely absent on the margins of the religious ceremonies in the way that people talk and discuss with each other. They are quite supportive of what is currently the far right movement in Brazil the talk phone crime conservative in social terms so this is a very strong movement. Many Brazilian a majority of the evangelicals showed support for Djabel scenario by some poles seventy percent of Brazilians who identify as evangelical voted full. Oh Bolsheviks what's your sense of which way round the horse and the car were there by which I mean were evangelical voting Wgir Bolsonaro. Because because they think he's the guy always Bolsonaro going out of his way to convince evangelical that he's the guy so the interesting thing. Is that Djabel. Sano is N- aunt and oven jellicoe. He doesn't follow jellicoe religion his Catholic however his wife is of Jellicoe and he has demonstrated several policy positions nations and other philosophical points that are very aligned with evangelical concern so for instance the transfer of the Brazilian embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem Jerusalem. He stated publicly during the campaign than closer to the election. He showed that he wasn't sure about it. And now he continues to tiptoe on that however it was a point that is widely supported by the fans Alecos because of their belief that the Jews should return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple so at the second coming of Christ would come to believe that is very widespread evangelical community at least in Brazil and other points such as publicly stating certainly in the pass on to some extent the president also stating opposition to gay marriage to the presence of gender and sexual education in schools that evangelical bellicose think is beyond unacceptable for their ultra-orthodox views. Sold these points. jellicoe symbols on auto are very well aligned. There are some voices in the oven. Jellico community that worry about the long term implications abused for the Evangelical Movement as a whole for its future because at the same time that there are very comfortable. Alliances of positions between both scenario and the evangelicals Bono also states some points that are quite violent excellent and points regarding public securities. Such as shooting took you criminal supporting torture off. Criminals suspected criminals and these tend to afflict particularly the poor and particularly poor black men which is also the constituencies the demographics that tend to be more heavily. Evangelical John Jellicoe so it's not a complete harmony of thoughts but so far the social conservatives mobile zone auto and of the Jellicoe movements have become quite aligned. Wind is it a challenge for President Bolsonaro or any Brazilian politician to try to manage the The expectations the hopes and the energies of both the van Jellicoe and the Catholic Church. Are there points of difference between them at all. I believe that it is a challenge to acquire the political political support of these different communities while also attending or respecting the less conservative positions of the rest of the Brazil's population. So the reason why this balance between jellicoe Catholic hasn't been very prominent in recent years. Is that the Evangelical Movement has been quite divided politically whereas the Catholic Church doesn't explicitly get involved in politics. The evangelicals have been involved but in a very fragmented way so they haven't really supported a single presidential candidate or a single political party. Brazil country with around thirty parties represented in Congress and it is is very fragmented and there are evangelicals in many many parties. Do Workers Party that is now. The main opposition the arch enemy of Bozon Otto and his right wing wing movement. The work aspired self aligned itself with the Evangelical so during Duma rousseff and Duma Roussev went back on some policy proposals to provide sexual education gender education schools because of Evangelical Influence Tube. Resilient political fashion diva jellicoe movement. Woman has been quite versatile and adaptive in align itself to whoever is in power in order to increase its influence and tried to block some of the moves against its philosophy and its main driving influences main driving voice has been against social freedom issues abortion gay marriage sexual education schools and things like that so just as a final thought then if as does seem to be the case. Brazilian politics has become more conservative. At least if we think think of that phenomenon as being personified by the current President Dawda extent is that being driven by religious faith whether it is the more traditional oh Catholic faith or the the new genetic evangelical faith. I think a big part of this right-wing shift of Brazil and the growing conservatism servicemen. That has been demonstrated by political leaders is being driven by evangelicals would just saw that the number of evangelical representing Congress rose by ten percent in the lower chamber of Congress in the October elections so their presence in politics has been increasing. It's just not something that is to the dominant can't power. Its shares power with some all the conservative sections so for instance in Brazil there is a faction of Congress that is called BBB so for stands for bullets bowls or cattle and Bible so the agribusiness influence is very strong as well and they also have a conservative view view. Those that support the more freedom to bear arms also tend to align themselves with the social conservatives of Jellicoe so these forces allied lied to themselves the form of important source off conservatives and to some extent swing shift in Brazilian politics Antonio some thank

"Punch had nothing to do with it. Those are fun. I think everybody wanted him so sorry. I don't I don't back down. Man, I just wanted to keep asking you push the air back down. You're right. I shouldn't blow my nose betcha I'm old school. And I should have known that. But I did. And I couldn't finish the fight apologize, Tony Ferguson entered as the second ranked lightweight contender to the NBA. This is an odd scene at the oracle a second-half stutter for the Toronto. Raptors on the road at the oracle bay win two games on the road in Oakland and they have the two time defending champs down to their final loss. The raptors are a win away from a championship up three games to one is they take game four one oh five to ninety two. More Kester, the final call on ESPN radio. It is stunning to see the warriors on the roads now down three games to one in the NBA finals for the raptors looked to close it out the raptors due on Monday night game five Toronto on ABC ESPN radio. The amp as well coverage starting at eight PM eastern, clearly the player of the game was once again quiet Leonard scored seventeen of his game, high thirty six. The third quarter of that win. The big question heading into game five in Toronto will Kevin Durant return for Golden State after missing the last nine postseason games with a strained calf now. It's time for straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones, best networks, no contracts with more on Durant, and what will it take for the warriors to come back. ESPN's Tim Legler. It's going to take Kevin Durant giving an answer. Because right now what you have no balance in the warriors offense. You don't have an interior presence offensively DeMarcus cousins is just a shell of what he needed to be in this series curry Thompson, or doing some damage from two three point line. But they're just not getting the interior presence. That's what Kevin brings because it doesn't have to be lives and dunks the ability to get a shot off anywhere on the floor. Whenever you want to against any defender is quite a luxury to have. It's the ultimate weapon against a great defensive team. They haven't had it Toronto's playing big and physical be surgery, Baca, PASCAL. Siachen Gonzala, whoever is setting that middle of the floor ball screen. And getting into the lane is causing doers so many problems because they're playing small lineups the guys that are rotating, try to cover that are guards and small floors. Kevin Durant star Bishop locker. So he answers things that ended a floor to who knows what he'll look later if he even can play on Monday night, Tim Legler straight tack wireless nationwide coverage on America's largest, most dependable four G, L, T networks, so still not know exact word Kevin Durant status for game five in Toronto makes the final decision, whether Katie plays and more on the situation is bien warriors reporter, Nick Redel warriors are hopeful that Katie will be able to do something during Sunday's practice and then potentially get out there for game five, but his Draymond said after game four look, Kevin doesn't even make the final decision here. It's up to the medical staff Kevin still hasn't been cleared to do any on-court work with his teammates. So there's a lot of gray area here. I know a lot of his teammates would love to see him on the floor. But then the reality is. Even if he does come back after missing a month with that calf injury. What is he realistically going to be able to give game for the warriors fourth home loss this post-season dropping last two to the raptors second time under Steve Kerr, the warriors of trail the postseason series three games to one other the two thousand sixteen west finals coming back from three one against Kevin? Durant Russell Westbrook in the thunder. Could we witness deja vu, ESPN thunder? Reporter, Royce young. There's always a little bit of a through line when it comes to these sort of situations how you arrive at their sometimes how shocking it can be. And how shocking it can feel a member in that underwear series in two thousand sixteen. It was the seventy three win or your steam and the way that the thunder went up three one, you know, it was kind of in dominant fashion, and in it was jarring, and it caught people off guard and all of a sudden it was like, wait a second who was the better team here. And like in obviously there's some context in this series with the injuries. The warriors are dealing with. But it. It kind of feels similar in that way. The one distinguishing difference to me is that when, when it got to three one the funders close out game five was in oracle. It was on the road. And there was almost kind of this being around the team at the time, there was almost this mentality of. Okay. Forget about this when it'd be nice to win game five, but they really were kinda like all the eggs in the basket of game six like when it comes back to. Okay, see, that's when you got to close the series, and it sort of feels like maybe all those eggs in the basket for the raptors in game five like it it feels, especially with Durant up, there looming and him maybe coming back, like they got to get it done in game five may because if, if the warriors can get it back to oracle. That means you might be looking at a game seven, and who knows what happens at that point, Royce. Do you think that the Golden State Warriors can come back from a three one deficit again? I definitely do and Rolan they, they got that guy named Steph and he did. And and, and. And who knows what happens with Durant? I mean, it's at this point, I think that there are some, some real skepticism, and there was this kept it to them before the series that he would play at all. But e even even with him potentially coming back for five six or seven wherever that may be like that could just kind of that could change the just the mentality and the perspective on the series. It also might go the other way, maybe the warriors, you know, they try to lean on him too much. And he's not completely healthy something. There's, there's a bunch of different things that can happen. But I do think that you just cannot rule out the warnings. I mean that's that's who they are. That's, that's what's made them who they are after they won game two so much of our conversation around. It was, you know, we always talk about the talent and the superstar power of the warriors. What makes them great is the heart in the determination in the grittiness. And this is an opportunity to show it. And I think that Steph curry and Klay Thompson, Draymond green or three tough dudes. And I don't think that they're going to go out. Easy REIs young on ESPN radio's GTL back to the NFL. Hirings and firings of NFL executives over the weekend jets make decision on their new GM to replace Mike. Maccagnan, it's Joe Douglas was the eagles VP of player personnel, ESPN's, Adam Schefter reports that Joe Douglas gets a six year contract has jets GM and he's alive. New head coach Adam gays, ESPN NFL nature reporter Courtney Cronin that ties to Adam gays were well-noted. I mean, the two of them have known each other. They've worked together in, in from people, I've spoken with about Joe Douglas and asking. Is this a good hire? Everyone said they knocked it out of the park. So I think that on paper, it makes sense. He's a football guy. Threw in through he presided over the eagles drafts in both two thousand sixteen and twenty seventeen. You know, he's had a long, standing career of going from, you know, low level personnel assistant to a national scout in a matter of fifteen years, and just really climbing through the ranks, he's a football guy Dari. I mean this is a football man through in through. So you're not worried about the optics. You're not worried. About anything that would get in the way of the Xs and os, this is your guy. The I kind of our new tactic Jim as much as I love Balian Sasha. I am one hundred percent on board for the iconic getting attacking titles. Just based on what we saw on smackdown. This is going to be a tremendous run. If they do it. Right. Just because it's like if anybody can be those insincere terrible girl heels if the iconic is like, they just they have that. Is the separation of church and state an impossible fiction?

"Van jealou- Kohl's more explicitly politically ambitious in the Catholic church was they want to take a more direct role in Brazilian politics. Absolutely. Evangelical have been by far more active and more proactive in seeking political influence the evangelical priests in their churches, especially those of the biggest searches in in Brazil, such as the universal church of God, the vision of cell to Hainault deals led by Juma. Do it. You must see a do also owns a very large devestation in Brazil called record TV. And he hasn't been extremely vocal. But he has given some public comments supporting Jibal so narrow the far-right candidate that ended up winning the elections now, the president of Brazil, and there are several media reports showing how even though the public indoctrination or public mention of candidates and support in the church during ceremonies themselves are quite discreet. Or sometimes completely absent on the margins of the religious ceremonies in the way that people talk and discuss with each other. They are quite suppo-. Live off. What is currently the far right movement in Brazil, the sort of tough on crime conservative in social terms. So this is a very strong movement in Brazil, and a majority of the oven Jellicoe showed support for valuable so Naro by some pulse. Seventy percent of Brazilians who identify as evangelical voted for ball Shara. What's your sense of which way round the horse in the car were there by which I mean were evangelical voting Vizcaya Bolsonaro because they think he's the guy. Always I also narrow going out of his way to convince evangelical that he's their guy. So the interesting thing is that Djabel sano is not an Jellicoe. He doesn't follow innovate Jelica religion, his Catholic. However, his wife is even Jellicoe, and he has demonstrated several policy positions and brother philosophical points that are very aligned with even Jellicoe concern. So for instance, the transfer of the Brazilian embassy from Tel Aviv to jerus-. Elim he stated publicly during the campaign than closer to the election. He showed that he wasn't sure about it. And now he continues to tiptoe on that. However, it was a point that is widely supported by even Jellico is because of their belief that the Jews should return to resume and rebuild the temple. So that the second coming of Christ would come. It's a belief that is very widespread and even Jellico community, at least in Brazil and other points such as publicly stating certainly in the past and to some extent in the present will sonata stating opposition to gay marriage to the presence of gender and sexual education in schools that even Jellicoe stink is beyond unacceptable for their ultra-orthodox views. So these points if Jellicoe symbols on auto are very well aligned there are some voices in the Jellico community that worry about the long term implications of this for the oven Jellicoe movement as a whole for its future because at the same time. That there are very comfortable alliances of positions between both scenario and the oven Jellicoe, both Renato also state some points that are quite violent and points regarding public security such as shooting to kill criminals, supporting torture of criminals, all suspected criminals, and these tend to afflict particularly the poor and particularly poor black men, which is also the constituencies the demographics that tend to be more heavily even Jellicoe. So it's not a complete harmony of thoughts. But so far the social conservatives mobile on auto and of the Jellicoe movements have become quite aligned is it a challenge for president Bolsonaro any Brazilian politician to try to manage the the expectations the hopes and the energies of of both the van calls, and the Catholic church are there points of difference between the Natale I believe that it is a challenge to acquire the politic. Support of these different communities while also attending or respecting the less conservative positions of the rest of the Brazilian population. So the reason why this balance between even Jellicoe sin Catholic hasn't been very prominent in recent years is that the Jellicoe movement has been quite divided politically. And its main driving influences main driving voice has been against social freedom issues, abortion, gay, marriage, sexual education schools and things like that. So just as a final thought, then if as does seem to be the case Brazilian politics has become more conservative at least if we think of that phenomenon as being personified by the current president Daud extent is that being driven by religious faith. "And even if it's never been explained why they should get together. I thought it still advance that goal of of. Of of moving the story forward. So I thought I thought MS MS was good. I want there to be a mysterious informant and anonymous informant on social media who starts putting up clips of MRs dad talking about how proud he has a MS over the this is the start of the start of the fan. Although I the reason why started the way I did about the story. They're telling us, I think it's more like the other way that MS is sincere and that Shane turns on anyway for some reason. That chain turns on miss. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Your views of shame. So I I just I don't care what either way about what they do with this. But we'll see because they didn't. This is the villain. That's right. Right. Some. Oh, Joe Jeff already was just filler. Correct. Yup. And since gain Rousseff given a lot of TV time the last half hour the shows almost a women's Gotland length segment. I was just amused. By the cardboard cutouts of the fans making the most noise of any match in five years. Yeah. You said that throughout the throughout the show's. It was in the I thought it was good match. I I liked the way that they framed Roussev in general. I really thought that we did a great job of selling his happiness at winning the title like it felt a fantastic it didn't feel goofy. That you know, it's sort of like a walking the line because they don't protect the titles out much. So it's difficult for like a wrestler to come across this something really meaningful to them and to not come across to some degree as as parody and Roussev absolutely accomplished that as okay, you know, he's really he's really happy to a won this championship. And it made the championship. Feel more important it made Russa feel feel more likable. I thought that it was a a good week for for Roussev. And if nothing else on on the the Ron smackdown shows I thought that I thought that it it did a good job on on Monday of advancing that Rousey natty storyline. And I thought. They did a good job on smackdown of of making Russo feel like a more important part of the show, which is something. I think fans fans want. All right. Anything else remarks Maktum? No, art. So how about inex- t from last week's program? Yes. So that was that was a good show in an eventful show fun show. What our show? Sean that work. We got the television debuts of of jesmyn Duke and marine Chevallier to start with and you could see the potential with them. They're also clearly green. But I thought they did. Well, overall that it was interesting that they did they lost your shrine and Dakota KYW. I'm not I'm not sure what that means. I mean, it's not it's not a big deal because it makes sense that they'd get better over time and storyline as they got more experienced, but I wouldn't have expected that that their first introduction would be in a loss. They also had Jackovitch return as his new character. And I thought that was very effective. I thought the package for him is good. The, you know, the music the way that he's framed, you know, everything about I thought it just it felt like a good act. And I think he's going to do really well once he gets going. You know, there's been some. Skepticism skepticism toward I I'm not sure how when when they held him out for such a long period of time much. I wasn't sure how they're going to do once they finally got going with them. And it feels like it feels like he's going to probably gain some some momentum pretty quickly. And then the main event was cage match with Gagani chop a very good match. And yeah, I thought they really delivered..

He's just like, I'm on camera. I don't want to be on camera. Run the run the Guinea. She's so cute and now we're on is giving your crap about the. Function. Yeah, so interesting things coming up next week. Very interesting things. And by the way, just so we know they showed a tribute to the 'em'll. Yes, they showed a tribute to the envel- so there that, yeah, which in case you don't know in case you don't follow wrestling nannies, father passed away about a month now six weeks ago. So this is the first episode that he was on. So they should a nice little trivia form at the witches, which was nice and he's gonna figure more in the season obviously. So we'll see how that goes moving forward. But yet this was this a roller coaster oven of episode like this just went. We started with Nazis problem at it, just oh to hell from there pretty much just but yeah, again, marker on. I feel like he has like the most thankless job in that company. If you think about it, he has to wrangled up Debbie superstars in, you know, you always know when he's going to have a bad day because when you see something like that, hit the internet, you know that poor man is somewhere just going, oh, God, not again. "And then he took on the big hero at wrestlemainia biggest match. The Rousseff has had sense at all. It's the biggest match in reserves career still to this day and Johnson a beat him in a match that a lot of people thought Rousseff could have gotten made in any wasn't how. However, history has shined a new light on that day because instead of even being reminded who the match was with, the history has been told that that day Rousseff was made. And that's because he went to wrestlemainia on a tank. We don't talk about what the match was. We don't talk about who won the match. We don't talk about anything like that. We don't talk about what happened after that wrestlemainia. All we talk about is the fact that there was a tank there and at the end of the day, Lana is the one that provided the tank. So the fact that on March fourteenth only a couple of weeks before Lana was going to provide the tank, they were in Milwaukee. I would say that they were in a very healthy place because. The tank was still going to happen. If Lana was doing things behind reserves, back on March fourteenth, two thousand fifteen, we probably would have never had that tank. We go forward a year and change to October twenty second twenty sixteen where Roussev lost a United States championship match to Roman reigns again at a live event. Lana was there with Rousseff so you know. No, I don't think it alive event. Lana would have been sneaking around on Rousseff. That's probably not true. There is a date between those events. However, an episode of smackdown taped on July seventh twenty fifteen where Rousseff defeated fandango Lana was not with Roussev at this time due to an alliance with summer Rae, and she was not in the building that night, Lana and Rousseff were on their break at this time after she had kissed Dolf Ziglar. Furthermore, this was the first night that Rousseff was spotted wearing boots after his broken ankle injury avoidance or fashion choice. Big question Mark. Now, of course, when men change up their fashion, a lot of times it's because a different woman has has has given them advice. A lot of women get suspicious when men change up their routines because it makes them feel like there's a new, a new person influencing their decisions at the same time. Maybe Rousseff felt like. Lana was slipping away from him and he had to change things up. That also happens you, you're observant of of the lady that you're with. You realize that maybe the look that was once in her is the interest that she wants showed you is no longer there. So what do you do? You switch things up in order to get her interested once more, maybe that is what was going on with Lana on that day. I don't think that it was July seven, twenty fifteen. However, because how would aiding in Aden English know anything about that? What in Lana in a moment of confidence, tell Aden about it. And Furthermore, would it be that scandalous if rue, seven, Lana were on a break at the time. Maybe the story is that on July seventh twenty fifteen while Lana and Rousseff Rana break Lana had a brief tryst with Aiden English that's possible out of any of these three possibilities. The July seven twenty fifteen day. Day is the most likely cause we know they were in Milwaukee. We know she wasn't there with Roussev. She could have ran off with Aiden English because Aiden English was not in the picture yet. He wasn't betraying his friend and maybe they just never wanted to tell Reuss of, who knows who knows. Some people brought up the old rock promo where rock made it sound as though he'd had an affair with Lana. Of course, we know a couple years ago on an episode of Monday night wrought, the Barclay center I was there. I was sitting in the audience. I was there with Noel Foley. As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly and Rousseff was in the ring with Lana and the rock came out, surprised everybody. We were shocked and cut a promo on Rousseff and Lana. A couple years later he showed up as surprise on ROY was going around backstage, and he made it sound like there was an affair that happened between the rock and Lana, and he brought up the fact that he taught Lana about the Wisconsin wheelbarrow..

"Not Sam wrestling. You can watch long in the state of wrestling videos. They're not just there for a day for a week. They stay up there forever. So enjoy them. If you're a not Sam shell on the indie darling level or above, it's going to get unlocked for you forever. It's an amazing, amazing deal. So watch along with us story number five, this week is Lana and what happened in Milwaukee. You know, I love smackdown right now. The storytelling that's going on on smackdown is it's so good. Like the segments are unpredictable. You know, we'll talk about a few different things that have been on smackdown this week, so I don't wanna go over the entire show. But from the way the show ended who've quite frankly, from the way the show began to the way the show ended and what was sprinkled in between you Ed. Everybody made to look great everybody in that. The opening segment, you told multiple stories. In the opening segment, you had radio and look link looking like a million bucks. You had the show ending on suspense and in a way that maybe. People didn't realize it would end with the Samoa Joan AJ style thing. And again, it's the same thing we talked about last week, you end up actually caring about this Samoa Joe AJ styles story, which can't be understated or overstated. It can be understated, but it can't be overstated because it's the third now match between these two for the same title with the same person going in his champion at a pay per view, and somehow we still care. And the reason is because of the storytelling that's going on in full credit goes to smackdown, but people in a in a story. If you if I told you a year ago, I'm there's going to be like a soap opera style story going on between Aiden English Roussev and Lana. You'd be like, what on main event, but everybody's talking about it. And that's because we have found reasons to care about all these people for ru, seven, Lana to carry again in a way that. We probably haven't cared sense. They first showed up and Rousseff was portrayed as a main event level bad guy with Lana by side. I mean, you care in a different way, but I mean on that level, Aiden English. We've never cared about this much Aiden English as prospering in a way that people probably didn't think was going to happen after the vaudevillians or vaudevillians broke up and Simon Gotch left the company, but he is. He is Aiden, English comes out and goes, did you tell everybody would happen in Milwaukee? Oh no. And then he just left and Rousseff is looking confused and Lana has his look on her face like I don't know what he's talking about, but you know that she knows what he's talking about. It was great. Now, there's a lot of theories on the internet about what it could be. One of the good people over the squared circle sub read it broke, broke down. What had happened in Milwaukee. The last several times that route seven Lana, were they're going back to two thousand fifteen on March. Fourteenth Roussev wrestled in a triple threat defending the United States championship against Jack swagger and Rybeck at a live event. This was mere weeks before Lonner provided Rousseff with a tank for his wrestlemainia entrance. Now it seems unlikely that anything would have happened on this night because anybody that knows anything about route seven, Lana? No, the the history of wrestlemainia where John CENA and Rousseff went one on one. A lot of people thought that that was a bad moment in the history of Rousseff because it was kind of when the steam was taken out of his engine. It was when the wind was removed from his sales. It was a build and build and build and build..

"On wwl. Call 504-260-1870 text eight seventy eight seventy or tweet at W, wwl AM FM. We're back and we're talking to Greg Roussev Richmond the crime coalition are you satisfied with the sixty percent of the respondents say no this. This study says to the opposite that more than half of the population in the city in New Orleans is satisfied with this this very complex situation of the relationship between the police department in in the community at large. It always is an any given poll. Crime is either the number one of the number two issue, depending on the most recent rainstorm, right? For day or two if we get a significant rainstorm flooded that goes to number one writing, and then, you know, crime falls to number two. It's no different in Jefferson as long as I was out there than it than it is in New Orleans, and those are the two unique characteristic sorely when you talk about the job raise that puts a stressor on a police department. Like, no other because we, you know, policing is human capital intensive and then to regroup from that is a multi year thing because you're dealing with the attrition rate. And you're trying to hire people that you really not paying that much. Probably the average salary. There's twenty dollars an hour. Incoming right? And you're getting shot at spit on. You're dealing with the dregs of society and your Monday morning quarterback every minute of every day. Yes, sir. And you can go to the Wendy's in may not too much less than that in. When you go home and nobody's Monday morning quarterback. And how you how you flip that burger? Yes, sir. I think oftentimes we lose sight of that. Yes. Well, that's why every organization I've been engaged in an authentic, the author think the business organization civic organizations one of the messages, we always try to send is that. We are greatly appreciative and grateful of the jobs and the sacrifices which officers make every single day every single hour every single minute of the day. Well, think we say thank you enough. I think whenever we see an officer on the street, we should them for their service. I think we'll the chief. I think well thank the deputy chief. I mean, we this is a profession of honor. And we ought to treat it in that way. And I can't agree with you more sheriff that that we we owe a great deal of gratitude to that and the community needs to do its part as well the community needs to be reaching out and embracing the officers giving them tips working with them if they see a drug deal going down on that corner. They should need need to report that to the police the police then need to do their part to respond to that. Report and go after and get the drug dealers out of the neighborhoods, and and clean it up. We need. Also, the federal is much federal cooperation right now as we can get which is absolutely critical in the task force between federal and local. So there are a lot of missing pieces to this. But I can't agree with you more about about gratitude to our men and women of the NRP d of any law enforce, you know, one of the reasons I bring that out because y'all pulled some I think some very interesting questions here in one of them was thinking about the police officers in your community. Do you think the media is doing an accurate job portraying them only forty seven percent of the population said, yes? Well, and one of the questions I asked to the pollster or we asked to that same exact question is is it is that question for pointed toward national media or local media because my guess is if it were on local media, the response would likely be slightly more positive because I think well, you know, that locally there's. A slightly more positive bent toward our policing. I think a nationally that polling number would probably be much more negative. But I think the media also needs to demonstrate that their appreciation as well and have fair mindedness toward policing. Know, I mean, the thing is the attention grabbing of headlines and stories is always about the negative side of policing. Yeah. In that gets reported probably a multiple far greater than of the heroic stuff that goes on each and every day that in policing. The mindset we don't even think about it those officers when I say we not me as as a former sheriff or otherwise, but the officers on the floor. I don't even think about it. They just do it. And I think the burden of proof. I think society owes it to the burden of proof being on the side of the of the police and the burden of proof needs to be on the side instead of the perpetrator. Yep. Let's go to line one. We'll talk to Kathy on a cell. What say you, Kathy? Hi, thank you for taking my call. Thank you for calling. A friend of mine. Nathan Lawrenson always been an activist for New Orleans. She gave us the idea of a few months ago, why not make the meter maid goes through a police academy. Therefore instead of spending so much for hours needs to walk around and get tickets. They can walk around and police the area, you know, nothing like going back into New Orleans, but you knew the policeman in your neighborhood. Well, we have all these medium as is being dropped off on every corner. Police officers. So they would be doing two different jobs. They would be able to collect money for the improper parking in a dangerous known not just because maybe they stayed in for extra minute or something. And and also to be able to react to any kind of crime or questions at the neighborhood. Yeah. I don't know whether or not there's any crossover training that's provided to the meter maids as Kana is in years of the community and. Great idea. I think no, no, no, absolutely. Absolutely. It's a force multiplier. Anytime. Look information is power in the law enforcement business. Right. Greg more the more. You have the better off, you are and the sooner you have it the better off yours. Well, you well, let me say this to our Kathy you make a comment. I can't either respond on meter may think it's a great idea. And we'll pass it on. I think also though you mentioned about old New Orleans in the old time New Orleans. The officer used to be in the neighborhood used to be able to talk to them engage with more part of that was that there was a number of their adequate numbers of officers that could engage with the community that could walk the streets that could get to know the neighbors community policing is really a you need the right manpower numbers in order to perform community policing because if you're running around responding to to urgent situations all the time, you're not you don't have the additional manpower do the community policing and being the neighborhoods. But if they would make the meter maid. I mean, if you serious with your job you can collapse for these cards that are that are improperly park in a danger zone. But you can also be a statement to the neighborhood. You know, they might have to pay a few dollars extra per hour. But then you would have somebody that you felt that you could trust other than somebody that you just get angry about looking to ticket, Kathy. Don't mean to be don't mean to be rude. But we gotta get to a hard news break. Thank you so much for calling in. And we'll talk about this. When we when we return, Greg and some other very.

Do you watch that Greg? I did. I watched it. I watched it at seven. I was not playing any games with that. And I have to say that interview with Sasha banks was very, very well done. She came across very honest. And yeah, already seen it being quoted. Unlike the the dirt sheets and the wrestling news sites, I feel like people have an idea of what went down, but still I really would say, as must see interview. What what are people referring to the most? Of course, your question about Lexa bliss and Sasha banks, and you know the the possibility that there's some legitimate tension there because you know wrestling fans, we can't help ourselves when something seems to happen that gives us a chance to peek behind the curtain and then you definitely definitely did that on Thursday, but even with the new day interview and the rue, seven Lana, double date. We got to find out Russo's origin story in wrestling which I didn't know before. So, yeah, I was really enjoyable episode. Lit about this article. So anyway, we are going to start with the pre show of summer slam getting back on track and our first matchup is recieving Lana. Taking ondre, almost Selena, Vega aid in his toll to stay in the back through growing up. Zelina short feeling. They got the win. Lena's adorable chain. I look super hotness from an attractive sense and also from wrestling sense. This was good. She, she lawn mixed really, really well together because she's experienced enough to deal with Russians deal with. Wrong choice awards to help Lana to guide her to guide her in the ring. And so they were able to put on a really, really solid performance Roussev in in on, got along very well. This was a fun match. In the end, you saw a new English show show up of sniper. That was on second. I'm sorry getting confused, but yet they did the Mets. It's these get confused. So you have undrawn in sleep, like you said, picking up the win cushy short, she's tiny, holy, should she's tiny. I love her. Damn. She's like a little ball of fury. That's like five feet of this mess you up Ray. They're pretty much up next week, the cruiserweight championship on the line as such. Alexander takes on Gulick for visitors championship fine to control lot. It was slow early last comments, really good who's enjoyable, very enjoyable they built. And that's what happened a lot on this show because they pace that you could tell that whoever pace this show out paced it out. Knew what they were doing in terms of that they paste out very, very evenly. Everybody had plenty of time. Nobody was really super rushed on this show which was very, very nice. And that includes a pre show. They got time the utilize the pre show. Yeah, they did. They give then as so go them. But yeah, great match. Cedric pertains much to my despair because I wanted Gulick to win, but Cedric. Awesome too. So I'll take it up. Next you have your raw tacking titles on the line is the b. team took on the revival. This was a good match. This was a fun match joy will they took her to that early with the machine much. They worked over Bo a little bit, but in the end we get a reverse roll up and be teams luck into another win. So they retain their titles yet, but that looks like the street might be over someone. I did not jinx them to us. You pick them up for her fantasy team in what was the first thing that happened? They lost twice. I adopted been winning since may she picks them up? Honestly, I thought I thought it was you pick them up and you got all their points. No, no, David, a one of their points, how the game works at shimmy, how the game works, not how what? No one's tracking their points, the not part of the league. Well, that that could happen. No. Can't keep track of everybody that says up on the show. No, he's glaring area now. I can feel it booking right up. I sat up. On the desk and start staring at the window, but you're lane down doing this. So upsetting back in the chair, sat up in the chair all the way up to or screen, rain down guessing. We le- Lord. What's next. "To be Aiden English. Does he finally help his team win? Or does he finally cost them for good and get fired by Lana and Rousseff? I'm going points on drought. Almost Selena. Vega win this one. It's too soon for hundred to lose a match of this on paper. Your typesetting. He lost AJ. That's one thing he's he was the champion. Adriano needs us with. Yeah, Andre Andrade hot right now. Alina. Hot right now, law nurse of not so much cooling that down on my only issue with this is there like lawn Roussev are gonna team. They're gonna come together in. They're gonna team together. Well, yeah, they're buried. It's not like, you know, she came down on higher anything. They live in the same house. They travelled together or she's going to do it. She's his wife like this whole. He doesn't want either of them. It's like that's a little awkward because you're married to one of them. So I just have a funny feeling English is going to cost them, and that's going to be the end of that, sadly, no more recieve day, which I don't understand why they're killing it, but. Okay, fine, whatever. So, yeah, I'm going Vega. Almost the boggles Roussev alone able we were. We were together. We were pair and you just got to me like that. Just got to me like that. They way up next. The dividend cruiserweight championship is on the line on the pre show as Cedric Alexander's taking on drew Goulette. This has been building really nicely into five live, and I want my boy. Through to win. I want him to win, and I want him to bust out that sixty seven page PowerPoint presentation. He's been waiting to do on on his championship win, and you know all the awesome this there by the way Drulak. If you're in the sound of my voice, I do design custom PowerPoint presentations on the side just saying, just, you know, slide my the answer. I'll hook you up just for the record and always not doing that anymore, but seeing as my job pretty much what I do. Yeah, I love that. So I'm going through. I feel like Leo Russia's the next cruiserweight champion. Why? Because that's the sort of way feels like they're building out to every since it might being what drew lack to be cruiserweight champion because I'd find it awesome. Hysterical him as champion. It feels like Leah. Go. Could you can always take the title back off him and put it on center. I'm going through Aibo went center. Next, probably the sleeper match of the night, maybe maybe not. This is the one I think we're most excited for one of the ones who are most excited for that is Daniel Bryan at last finally, three years in the making taking on the MS Noto. No, nothing. Just two guys with pure burning hatred for each other, getting ready to punch each other in the face. I can't wait for this Kipling. Kipling, but we'll give to it. I wanna talk about this one. Okay. We'll get. So as previously mentioned, they have been building this up very well on smackdown the stuff with the Miz TV. The MS Mississippi has been great being Brian's, been fantastic. MS has been outstanding in his role. They've been picking poking the pair of them each other. They've sort of been going back and forth the video packages detailing their long history for eight years that they aired on smackdown live. This past Tuesday was great l. is tremendous. And they've been really selling this matchup as a must see attraction on this show. I'm not even gonna lie this matches. Probably the top match on smackdown right now because this is the one everybody wants to see. Like I know I know there's a title match for smackdown. I know there's multiple title matches for smackdown, but this is the one everybody has been waiting for because miss has been Dana O'Brien ever since he retired and they have done this so well between these two and the fact that they've had that continuity and they've high. Highlighted all that history between the two and they're hyping. This is eight years in the making like the fact that these two have hated each other for eight years, and now they're finally going to settle it once and for all like this is so perfectly done, and I love that they've built to this..

"We don't have it here on the script, but I just wanna say that the Andre c. and almos- and Roussev match. First of all. Smackdown was like all around the home run. Yes, it was all around a home. Run the on commentary. I liked it all day long. Great tag match the Roussev storyline continues to move along dry Almaz goat continues his way up the ladder. We have our truth returning. Truth in a segment that actually makes it made sense for Joe to beat him up. Joe Iverson styles. Matchup. Yeah, he looks like he has not. He looks just coming into the company. I have a very specific question about truth in this segment. Yes, it's twenty. Are they still allowing him. To add verses to his team. So is that was happening? Was that a new fucking verse? I can't. I cannot make out what it always sounds going Symington Nevan. We should be fair like he doesn't have a monitor. So he's always like a couple of steps behind what's happening. Very frustrated. It's a really good reason not to wrap though. I know he also does the reason is because he was friends with two puck and maybe it's time to produce. Now. I love him. I love him. I love him too. I think his backstay is two years old. Yes. Sometimes his backstage segments getting me through entire to our wrestling. They They really do really do. amazing. But like he either did not know the words to the verse he did or he did a new verse in either way. I'm like, why is this happening? No, I think it was a new. And again, I think it's just like it's when you don't have a monitor and the own. The music you're hearing is what's coming through the speakers at the top down. And so it doesn't. "You know, this is mentioned a joke, yada, yada, yada, yada, you know, and we put it this Monday, but I wanna say this again that you know basically every suspension is Joe in w you know, when they're done on TV and number two, she served what like twenty eight days of her thirty days mentioned like, she's been gone that long off of TV Mel remote. The remember the key words in suspension choose to spended for Monday night wrong one, not talking about how show parents. I'm just talking about on TV in general. She has not been on any month, but my point is is that it's like, you know what earlier in the year Roman reigns was suspended for talking reckless or and he showed up and everybody was Oliver him about it, both good and bad, and they're like, oh, this is fine, but she does. It is like, oh, no, no, this is bad. So no, it's this is the way they always do suspension storylines as the person comes back early and attacks the the, he'll or the baby depending on situation to get. Come up with. I mean, that's that's how this works. So the fact that you had Rhonda sitting there, she had served for Spanish and she was there. She bought a ticket. She jumps the guardrail in tax. Alexa, who's you know deserves it? The happens. Time that too much. I thought it was fine. I thought it was good. It didn't bother me the lease. So and I liked how they get around the match between Lexcen nyah they're, they're getting very creative on how to get around that because it's like, I think they understand that it's it. It is a little bit of a mismatch between the two because Alexa just cannot match nyah in terms of power Mon close power. Yeah, all of it and I just would be crap out of her in real life. So they're finding ways to get around that which is good up. Next we have the WB championship match were AJ styles is taking on Roussev on Roussev day. This was my much of the night. This was really good, very, very entertaining, very, very entertaining. Rousseff sodas, like will ages told us back. Well, you had really good stuff through this matchup lotta great near falls. Great. The one of the spy matchup was Roussev went for the accolade, but couldn't keep it locked. And you pointed out. What we're watching. It's like, why can't you? You need to use both ours hook both arms, but it was selling the lake was perfect. Yeah, where's have sold the like the entire match. So it's like he couldn't lock it accolade perfect fully because he had locked in accolade evening was exposed term, go Russa, ran into an accident. There's a long to count after four fifty, but the phenomena for up by ages styles retained his bell. Really good, entertaining, match up best show for seven, long time. AJ is the champ for that reason, but my match I liked this match. I wish they would give yourself more like this. I wouldn't mind seeing another one of these between genders, so it'd be completely fine with that. But yeah, AJ manages to retain the title and Roussev impacting on Recep day. It's a sad Rousseff day version of and then in kind of a head scratcher made a bit of night still not one hundred percent. Sure why this was the main events and not the AJ styles match, but it's there show they can do what they want because it was the Royal rumble. Okay. "Talked about roman reigns and brock listener a lot in the first segment of the show with wade keller we also talked about the fabulous moolah battle royal with wade keller so that's why that's not in the top five stories otherwise the backlash about the moola battle royal absolutely will be but that was in the interview segment so if you want to hear that go back to the interview segment because it's time to get into it to number five story of the week is fast lane of course let's let's break down what happened on fastlane everything they didn't get to breakdown on talking smack which is a lot of the show i thought fascinating was a very good show i thought fascinating did exactly what i wanted it to and exactly what i wanted what i talked about on the on the kickoff show it painted the picture it paid off storylines that we're building too fast lane and then painted the picture for what smackdown is looking like as we head into wrestlemainia so we'll start from the beginning the nakimora rousseff match i thought it was super fictive nakimora of course had to win that match and had to win clean in order for us to take him seriously as a threat to aj styles wwe championship at wrestlemainia but rousseff looked super strong in that match he did not plow over roussev in any way shape or form there were moments in that match where it looked like rousseff could have one and i think that that was important as popular as rousseff is getting as much as the fans cheering reuss evan roussev day t shirts or selling out you have to you have to make reserve look strong and they absolutely did at the show so i mean that was really well done i also that the other thing that was well done ended up being the tag match the tag team championship match and we cover this a little bit on smackdown on talking smack but it was interesting because i was listening to the crowd reaction and when the bludgeoned brothers came out and interrupted the match at first it was all booze do because everybody was really looking forward to the use os versus the new day match everybody was really.

"We got we got nothing we got nothing forum i mean and i'm not sure that going in seven minutes taken seven minutes to beat eight in english is good and i don't think the optics or good that when a he'll interferes at ringside in the fence cheer that he'll that that's good for you going into a wrestling match either if you're going to have a magic gets aj styles in a dream match between two baby faces in october as cheered fans like him but they like reuss of more right now so i don't get the wisdom of putting oxmoor against eight in english with roussev at ringside and having fan allegiance spee split i mean that's where you want to have those those heels that you can those utility heels who have some credibility that knock cabrera can beat i mean out of rather had gender that spot on tuesday night than than eight in english in in let in half but have gender on a tear you know so that knock comoros stops them and have gender a promo girl and this should be my spot this should be my match i have been cheated i was a champion more months last year than anybody and i deserved at my romania moment in its being taken from me and should skates the res at one of set it up get some he'll heat behind him and then in build it up for a couple of weeks in haven't matter and have the announcer saying man of gender beach in skate will shinsegei will gender prove that it's right with acted in shinsegae's head that maybe he doesn't deserve the spot and that it should be gender spot tell some sort of story that makes that match seemed like it matters and then shinsegei overcame an obstacle the overcame something gained momentum fans united behind him instead of rousseff day rousseff day which was last night or and i don't even know you kind of backtrack i i don't even know if if the fans like lucia more than knock immerse is it's fun to chant worship day i mean that they clearly like.

"Roman reigns was going to be on the survivor series team for raw that john seen on on of you heard this the rumor was the john seena was going to be the referee for the gender mahal brock lesser match which i guess is a way to just add some starpower into that match which i don't disagree with them and then you had your tagging titlematch than you had so the landscape is completely changed within forty eight hours or so because the match it was supposed to be aj styles verses roussev became randy orton verses roussev on smack down i would imagine that aj styles was at some point scheduled to beyond the survivor series team for smack down and stuff got juggled around and things change because roussev ended up losing to randy orton and we still left smack down not knowing who the fifth man was going to be on this mcgahn survivors team we now know and we'll get there at the same time in kind of an unexpected loss sat rollins in denamrk rose lose the tag team championships to the bar shame since zara and when that first time you go why is that but then when a new day come out and interfere in their match it's pretty clear to me there were going to see a three new day versus shield match at survivor series which i think is great i think that the new dave versus the shield adds an element that wasn't quite there with the champion versus champion matches because save for the brock lessner aj styles match you now dealing with every champion versus champion match it survivor series is a bad guy versus another bad guy he's got the ms who nobody likes versus barron corbyn who nobody likes him by the way nobody likes those two people in the best possible ways there arguably the two most effective bad guys in the company but the to the two biggest baddies ms and barron corbyn intercontinental title us title no titles on line then you've got natalia verses alexa bliss and italia is a bad guy.
