"E n i n e a recording by Wild up that is part of the whole rediscovery. The music of Julius Eastman. Christopher Roundtree directs the band Wild up as as he did when they played live for us at Merkin Hall a few seasons back in our new sounds live series. By the time this album is done, a lot of the members of the band will have had a chance to take a solo taking advantage of the The so called open scoring of much of Eastman's music. Um now at this point, we're skipping a little bit to get to the middle of the piece where the music really branches out in a lot of different ways, although that that insistent almost obsessive repeating motif is never really gone. And neither of the bells, although you may not hear them, except for when the rest of the instruments really get quiet here is more from wild up playing Julius Eastman's piece feminine Kidding. Hey, Hey. People. Oh, Yes. Yeah. Okay? Well, we are back again to this repeating motif that underpins the entire structure that is Julius Eastman's piece called Feminine. This recording of.

Regardless of what I'm playing in, in the show of there's a theme song. Well, but somebody some people would love to go through life with that as their soundtrack. Oh, yeah. Yeah. My dad said to me once he was out. Visiting me in LA and. I was complaining about twenty four seven. League shaft cow to comes up, and he says, son. Let me tell you something. A lot of people leave this earth, not being known. Fanny thing shut up. No anything shut your mouth. Oh, no. You didn't. But on the other hand, you have a brand new fresh film. Fresh young shaft, Jessie usher, and here's you know Samuel Jackson, complete womanizer, and there's a scene in which Samuel Jackson threatening a woman with a gun, bad woman, and his son, JJ says, well, you can't have a woman Samuel Jackson says why not she's got a batch? He's gonna hit me. You can't beat up a woman or not, because she's a woman misogynistic, you'd want misogynistic, I mentioned gender, you'd want bring up a being a woman, equal opportunity just can can I handle this. You do have in this new film JJ, bringing different sensibility, telling telling chef, nobody tells shaft, you know, that he's wrong on certain moral issues in this film people do and Jackson's shaft seems to have kind of a change of heart on a lot of things by the end. I think we covered all the bases with the millennials and the whole school attitudes, that seemingly have to bend if you will not totally change bend, and realizing that things are changing you get to look at how it bridges, the three generations Bernez a innate respect across the board. I have to ask. How are you because we know you had a form of cancer that men don't talk about a lot, but you did breast cancer double mastectomy vote ahead to speak about it. Breast cancer is not gender specific. And the men have this cavalier attitude about health issues, and then got such positive feedback because I spoke out about it, and it's been quite a number of years now was survivor news. Well, there's also a message there that you can be the heart and handsome, breed of black man spawned in the dangers of Harlem, moving with self-assured ease, and take care of yourself. Hello. They mockeries, which historically was most famous probably for all the major league baseball talent that it produced. Now it's the become a popular tourist destination two of them at the same resort in the better known tourist town of Punta. Kana what other? Other aspects of these tragedies would of these people have in common? You said, they're all on the young side head they engage in any kind of activity that might have put them at risk. You know, in a couple of cases there were reports that they've, you know, someone drank scotch from a mini bar and, and, and then died, nothing particularly unusual that you could observe the three in some Pedro mockeries all had internal bleeding according to reports in lung failure input..

"I'm sure about way goes to the pool whole everything that first ten minutes before we get to chalk him coming in is just establishing his character. And I think that's such a clever move. I mean, it could have been done so Kline Kelly and to your point. Mike, and Heather about him about rub hooks being the perfect activist pot. We'll probably end up spending a little bit about shaft lighter on. But I I mean, this is secular decide, but I think that Richard Roundtree has the cool that robot hooks does and. Shaft is for me now K film, but trouble main wrists once on just how cool rub hoaxes. And I think he does a better performance in Roundtree does inch off. I don't take that a sacrilege because shaft is not a movie that I necessarily go back to very often shaft Allah's feels to me like it was first written. And I know it was a book series but written as a white protagonist and then switch to a black protagonist. And then they blacked it up to use a horrible phrase. But that's what it always felt like and layering on things like the leather jacket and is a case score. And all those kind of things just felt like it was, you know, embellishments kind of gilding the Lilius far as it went. Whereas this just feels like it's such a different film. Even though it's written by the same guy. John BF black wrote both of those and then he ended up co producing this film. But it feels a lot more true to me and feels like tea. He is a more rounded character than shaft was. And it's interesting to see the parallels. Like, even the very beginning of this film when he goes back to his apartment to change out of his his last suit into his new suit..

"What do you do to cleanse and get off all that makeup and everything from the day, you knew what I've really invested in this. It's kind of like a towel warmer. Kind of contraption or thing. I don't know. What you call it tallied. If I'm in the spa. Yeah. Basically, and what I like to do is like to put, you know, of course, warm them up in there. And then what I'll put is put some essential oils on there and a cleanser, and I just you know, use that over my face, and then I wash my face. And then I'll finish it off with another towel. Just you know, it just it really helps them even my husband would like to do. There's like so, you know, but that's what I do as an actor because I'm constantly putting on makeup. I'm in. What about what you put on? What kinds of moisturizer do us? Oh my gosh. I use lots of moisturizers to be honest with you. I always like to change it up because I think that your skin gets used to things, but what I liked to my favorite thing right now is just using vitamin c. So any product that has fight him in see infused in there. I think it's very very helpful for your for your skin. It just makes it radiant and vibrant from me. And then I also like to use just some some natural oils that I'll put on my face morning and night. Yeah. So it was like an oil based form. And of course, sometimes that doesn't work for everybody depends on what kind of skin you have. But that's what I'll do. Yeah. And what about sleep as a Z working parent as the mom of new of new little one what to sleep look like for you. There is. You mean, I feel like I sleep I'm sleeping now. I sleep small standing up. No. It's you know, it's challenging especially when you have a newborn at home. But this is what I'll say I'll say that. Of course, sleep is important right in order for us to fill. Great. So I'll get it in when I can so say, I'm working on, you know, I'm working on this show right now, it's called family reunion with Loretta Devine, and Richard Roundtree who was the original shaft, and I'm just like in heaven everyday working with these legends. Should I say, but anyway on our lunch break what I'll do is just take a quick twenty minute nap. And I'll just try to get in some showed. I whenever I can what does that do for. You rejuvenates me? It really does. It just kind of makes me feel like I've just kind of reset myself for a minute. So moms out there don't feel guilty. If you need to take a nap. It is. Okay. Fake the kid. Right. It was just. Yeah. Take on the kids. It's okay. To take an. Up in. So I just try to get naps in whenever I can. But. Yeah. But sleep I there's there. I am not no. Yeah. No. After was born you wrote a book about pregnancy. Yeah. I'm so curious about what it was that you felt like wasn't being talked about pregnant, then and one's change between your first and your second. Yes. So I wrote oh, baby. And that was a book about my pregnancy. And the reason why I wrote it is because you know, crease my firstborn he seven now. And when you're pregnant for the first time, you know, everything is new, and so, of course, you go out there, and you start to do research and try to, you know, look at books and buy books that you can read to make you fill it ease. Right. A lot of the books were very medically driven. And they were so serious. And I was I won't go all like, you know. And then also some of the books weren't talking about the things that I was going through, you know, or even if they were serious can we make light of it in some kind of way to say at the end of this pregnancy. Everything's gonna be okay. You know what I mean? Just because I have a bloody nose right now. It doesn't mean that you know, something's wrong. With me. You know, what I mean and people weren't necessarily talking about those things. So when it happened to me, but it was example, buddy. No. Oh, yeah. That's one..

"So not only are you being pulled towards him. You're being pulled and then locked into position because the frame stop you from coming forward. But the pull is making you come forward. So he's locking you into position with this is very very and again, look at his muscles straining, right? Very very very very very strong position. So Khalil Roundtree looks like he tries to dig through and bump the elbow. This is better, although the high differentiation still makes it a problem and he's gonna push him back. Right. Let's get into the fence because you wanna get hip to hip. Okay. This is better. And he tries to go underneath the and by the way, people like how do you break, the Teich Lynch, folks, there's a million ways to break, the clinch one of the most obvious ways, you swim inside, and you re in new capture the inside space. There's all kinds of ways where you break the tie where you break it off, your you break, the collar here, there's different ways where you can reach undergrad, the elbow, and then turn and trip them, there's a million different ways. Usually, though, one of those ways involves grabbing the head did you notice Khalil Roundtree never grabs the head? He doesn't pull how Joan our head to head and are loving embrace. Did you did you notice that he never pulls the head down? So there's nothing keeping look at that. His head is completely untouched. The neck is completely untouched. So he's trying to dig up under here. And he can't right? He's getting turned now their head to head. But only because Johnny Walker wants it that way watch this. So you can see right here. Let me. Let me do this. Look right there. See this. Do it again. See that. Cluele Rowntree pummel inside pummel inside. So he could be the one doing inside control watch Johnny Walker. Does he collapsed the elbow inside throws the strike? And now, there's no more of him trying to inside because Khalil Rowntree's now putting it across his wastes. So he doesn't get drilled. Okay. Look at this. No one's ever touching. Head of that punch lands. The punching your way out of the clinch is going to be a lot of guys are good at ducking and rolling stuff inside of that space. So here he is again. So it looks like he's trying to Khalil trying to at least control this side. So that he doesn't get bombed on there. Let's see what happens. Joining walkers just rotating them over to now, he's rotating over where Rowntree's trying to get the hand inside. So he can establish inside control. Johnny Walker says fine, but boom, you're unobstructed. There. Look look at the space folks were asking why did it land? Why did it not land like how how on earth would it not land? There's nothing blocking. He standing straight up and perfect range. There's no mechanism bringing the head down. There's no mechanism getting them head to head. There's no mechanism effective enough. Anyway, to pummel in all those things are missing. So, of course it landed. Right. And that hurt him bad. And by the way, look at this..

Black jesus. Rudy. Yeah. That's right. So anyway, so so she she had a history of some of this stuff. And it's not like she is some wet behind the ears college injured or just fell into a job. She's been doing this for a while. She's been doing television for a while. She's a smart woman. She's an attorney. You know, what I mean, she she knows what she's doing as far as interviewing people, but she stepped in. And she makes she was trying to get that show going, and nobody was into it. Nobody's buying and NBC. This is this is killing us. So now, they're trying to figure out a way to get out of pain or the sixty nine mil I don't know how you get out of it. They have to prove this is where she lawyered up, by the way. Of course, he's got a lawyer. And so now there's looking to go back and forth. And the, you know, they're going NBC is going to have to prove that what she did. And what she said was considered to be something that broke one of the clauses that breach the claws like a morality clause. Whatever something damaging to the network, right? And I don't even know what she said was damaging because I think they kind of jumped the shark, but they were like you said, I think they were looking for any reason. Yes. The ratings were terrible. Right. Clearly ratings weren't prerequisite to her maintaining our employment given the contract she had. So they're going to try to go this other clause. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. But I I think at the end of the day, I think we'll come to some sort of settlement and she'll probably walk out with. I don't know. She walks. Fifty fifty mill as she walks out with ten it's ten mil exactly. And said she'll end up back on Fox News. She'll do that. We'll put it back on the Kelly files whenever it's going to be should be on the five within a week Megan's minstrel show. Tucker carlson. I'm still saying that's going to be that would be a killer show. So totally killing network. Right. I kill the person who decided we'd get idea. So any so that's the latest with that. And we'll see what happens, right? So so that was surrounding Halloween, costumes, right? That was surrounding all of the you know, the halloween's coming up. What's what's appropriate? What's inappropriate what's PC in that place? Now. So in Iowa teacher is feeling the heat from her school board after photos of her dressed in what for Halloween party with public. As a stripper dressed in. What would be something that would get hurt in trouble? Yes. Correct. This could be somebody who could be the most stupid teacher. I think in the United States of America right now. What was what's been the biggest story aside from the bombing thing? Thank thank you Kelly. She goes, you know, what I think it might be a little black face. If Megan Kelly says, it's okay, she says, there's no problems you probably watching the today show the coffee class. Maybe she wasn't working that day my class at the inner city school will just love this custom. Yeah. Maybe she she saw that episode said Megan Kelly said, it's okay. That night. And then the next day. She's she's sitting at home in the apology pops up and she goes oh. Oh. That's not good. The photos already out. There Meghan lull off teaches first grade at Wolcott elementary school in Davenport, Iowa. Once again, that's Davenport Iowa. I mean, there's more of a chance of finding the bomber within the day that a black person isn't that what you wanna be wearing black face in Iowa of all places. So she now is under investigation by the Davenport school district. And they're saying the wearing a black faces never appropriate in any circumstance by any person. Have you met know that? Anyway, she was dressed as African American character LA Fonda from the two thousand four combination the Polian dynamite. Do you know who that is? Yeah. I know the Fonda the funder. It's I think it's the Fonda. He's so if you know in Napoleon dynamite, have you seen it? I saw longtime ago bride kind of not quite it's it's so the his brother or or best friend is like a skinny nerdy kids. Just like he is right. And he I think it was like a pen pal or like an online data online. Not just you know this. I think it's a guy in dragon. I don't know if it is. I think it's just like a burly black woman who falls in love with it. And it's like the big bit is that they she falls over this little nerdy kid. And he he goes totally gangsta with the do rag and the okay. Well, you gotta see the picture. I saw the picture. I mean, it was just like. It was just like she took like just a dark ash, gene burns some ashes rub. It all over face. Put a wig on put the dress on. I mean, it was bad. It wasn't even good black famous bad. But when when you come into a large sum of money, and particularly when it's a billion dollar payout. There's an idea that you're going to have great security, right? You don't have to worry about money again. But in fact, it's completely the opposite. You have to worry about money twenty four hours a day. When you have that kinda cash there's there's anxiety that comes along with it excitement. Happiness, fear stress everything that comes along with that kind of windfall of cash, I'll give you three examples. A guy named David Lee Edwards. Former drug addict who won twenty seven million dollars jackpot in Florida in two thousand one after buying a mansion cars other high end purchases bought a boat jetskis the whole run he and his wife started using drugs again. Following multiple arrests for possession of drugs Edwards lost all of his money. A few years ago. And ended up living in. Whiparound, please. He lost his mansion. He lost the cars, the boat the jetskis his.

"What's wrong with them? John and Ken, weekdays two to six on KFI. AM six forty Conway show, Dr Cameron campus us from Ohio move move to a soul and Ohio just outside of Cleveland, which very familiar a long discussion about chagrin falls during the break. If anyone's from that area. You know, exactly what you're talking about by York here to discuss Alzheimer's, what people can do and how to stave it off how to deal with it as well. And I don't know if you go this far into the medical side of it. But I I've read some stuff on Alzheimer's and some people have memory problems. I really think it has if not principally partially to do with what we've eaten over last thirty or forty years is that possible or diets one of the things we talk about is you want to take care of your brain, take care of your heart. Okay. And so the evidence is is pretty clear in terms of things like cholesterol blood sugar also taking care of your teeth. And so it's about a holistic approach to health, and that will take care of your heart. But will also take care of your brain. I know there's going to be a senior health and wellness expo coming up in October around trade that Rowntree's going to sponsor and this year it's going to be about a holistic approach. So they'll be. Approaches in terms of mindfulness. It'll be down there for its October. Twentieth. Yes. Yes. Exactly. So exactly so emotional health as well. And so if you can be living a life, that's less stressful. If you can do meditation if you can watch your your diet if he can exercise that'll take care of your brain as well as your heart is will as your body. The way to go. I like the you're going to be given a seminar there because I usually am see this event and spend four hours doing it. But now you're going to be there and speaking it'll give me a time to slide around the side of the building and knock off four five cigarettes. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And and make sure you bring a flask to you know, 'cause I'm going to sneak around in share with you. I'm not picky. Whatever. I saw guy recently is one hundred and three and he said his key to success is whiskey. Maybe something to that. Right. Well in moderation. You know, I was talking with a guy who was a hundred. And I said, you know, what's it like, and he says you I feel like I'm twenty one and something's really wrong. Well, there's a lady was interviewed on TV and and she one hundred and five and they said, what's the key to your your longevity? And she looked in the camera. And she goes, I'm cursed. She had no sense of humor about it. She goes, it sucks right now. Modern five I don't know the energy to kill myself, and I can't do it. But anyway, so this this is going to be on October twentieth. From ten AM to two thirty pm down that Roundtree Roundtree gardens and give out. We'll give out a number. We can get closer to it. But it's in doubt Stanton. California Orange County. All right. So anything we can do to with our parents that are having experiencing problems remembering stuff, I know when I have when I have a conversation with my dad. It sounds something like this. I'll say to them. I said, hey, dad, what was the guy's name member? He used to the movie he was. The restaurant used on used on that restaurant next to the the guy that had his own guy on that horse. And my dad will say, oh, yeah. I know you got guy used to live next to. Yeah. I know you're talking about the the horrors that big race. The and no information, I go a half hour, and there's not a name or horse store. Play. You're a movie or a dinner nothing, right? I love it. Hey, you know, I always say look at their face. Right. Are they happy you're doing it? Right. Okay. That's cool. That's that's everything. Or for example. If a person keeps asking a question over and over and over again because that's like one of the number one, stressors caregivers. So there are two reasons why someone may do that one is they're looking for information. You tell them that. They can't remember it. And so a check for that as you say, well, when do you think? We're going to be going to the game. Oh, that's good. And if they say four thirty. Then they're not asking about when you're going to the game. It's trying to keep you there. They're trying to contact you. Okay. But if they say, I don't know. That's why the heck I'm asking you. Then what you do is you write down the answer. Like a piece of paper tape it to the countertop. So it won't get lost and put away in a safe place when they asked the question, you say, you know, there's there's a message about that. Let's go check and you walk with them to this location, and you point to it. And you say what does that say, you have them read it out loud? Right. That's right. Whenever you want to know when we're going to the game will just come here. Let's call five minutes later wins the games same script. You know? I think there's a message about that. Let's go check. And does it get better? Why happens is with practice as during Zaidi rises their feet. Start carrying them over to this low cost interesting. They look at it. They get the answer that reduces things -iety and that anxiety reduction becomes associated with this location, and you're out of the loop. That's great and you've enabled them to reduce their own anxiety by storing the information, they need externally and giving them practice with the procedure. So they can get it for themselves Dr campus with us what is. The answer because I've had two different schools on this. When my when my grandfather who suffered from they call it hardening of the arteries, and and he used to say to me. Why haven't my parents called me recently? Now, his parents have been dead for one for thirty nine one for forty years. And and he said why he says we you have my parents, call me, and why haven't they called me what the answer to them? And this is a very common thing you get on the phone and pretend you're them. What I do is. I treat people the way I like to be treated myself. Right. So if someone I knew I loved had died, I would want to know about that. Oh, I see. And so what we do is the same formula. We put together like the obituary, and we stored in a location, and when they ask about that. Let's go see. Oh, I see right and people tell me, what won't won't they cry. If they know that, you know, loved one died in the answer. That is. Yes. And right because how do we enable a person to work through grief, if they have a memory deficit because if you are I lose somebody close to us. It's a year process. And even then later on you get hit from the blind side with with a song or something. And he comes back is a human thing and it takes time. So how'd you take them longer? It it. Can it depends on whether or not they get that practice remembering it and working through the grief. But just as is the case for you and me over time. It's not that you stop caring. But the the pain of that grief becomes more manageable. And you learn to live with imagine the first couple of times a very tough. Although it's like it's like telling a child that their dog died, and then they don't remember ten minutes, you tell them again after while you may even after fifth or sixth time in one day, you might say, well, let's go look for him. You know, you might get. And then we have to start the whole cycle Brigham. Yep. But you know, over the long run, it's like. I've I've seen places memory care where if a person dies. The the funeral. Place will come and take out the body in the middle of the night. So no one will see. But what happens is then their neighbors start saying, well, you know, worst Fred in don't worry about man, if my neighbor disappeared in the middle. Yeah. That's crazy. Yeah. All right. Doctor you're going to be at the expo. I'll see you there on October twentieth. Yeah. If anybody wants more information, we'll put up on the on the website. But this is interesting. I'm glad you're here. And if anyone wants has a relative who is, you know, experiencing memory problems or press, the the beyond.
