"Identify when you have technical debt? I think there are some tactical signs that you can start to look for. So for example, maybe you're digging into individual records in your CRM, which seem off like a lead has the wrong lead status or is missing a lead source. Maybe you're frequently worried that small changes to your marketing automation systems or your workflows are just going to break everything for you. Another example is you don't have owners or admins of a particular tool. So there's a lack of documentation, a lack of accountability for certain apps and software that you use. And then I think there are higher level, more strategic signs. So for example, your marketing strategy and tactics have totally changed. And your current tech stack has started to really hinder the efficiency of executing your marketing strategy. Another sign is that you see a really large downturn in marketing metrics. So you're starting to see email performance job, add performance job. It might be a sign that you need to look into what's going on with your data and your tech. My takeaway from that is there's two major signs. One, it's taking your team too long to execute. And they don't have the right tools and technologies to be able to move quickly, or to their performance, is starting to struggle and it's not necessarily the lack of talent or team or even process. It's really the market dynamics are changing and the technologies they need are relying. So technical debt is something that can constantly slow down your effort to hurt your marketing performance. It's something that you need to keep an eye on. There are relatively clear simples to understand when that's happening to you. And we're going to talk a little bit more about how to solve for technical debt with automation and tomorrow's episode. So that wraps up this episode of the mar tech podcast. "Data around from platform to platform? So when you're thinking about moving data across systems or implementing a new marketing technology tool, it's really important to think through what your end state or ultimate vision is for how you want the data and systems to talk to each other. And I think that when you're onboarding a new system or tool, you can kind of take a step back first and decide how quickly do we want to get up to speed. What is our balance that we want to have between getting this tool implemented quickly versus having a really robust, fully built out implementation. So you can create sort of a one off process and just start with the data that is essential that you needed your specific tool that you're implementing. All right, so let's talk through that and do a little case study here. Let's say that I am ready to move off of my existing CRM. I'm not. We use pipe drive. We've loved pipe drive for a long time, but it's a $12 a month tool. And it's scaled for us as we've scaled, but you know, at some point, as we become a multinational podcast conglomerates enterprise $1 billion company, it's going to take us a while. At some point, we might need to move to a Salesforce. But I've got all of this legacy data and I just don't want to give it up. So is there a zap that you would suggest as I start thinking about getting rid of my technical debt, this platform that I could no longer use because it doesn't have the sort of bells and whistles and enterprise might need, do I zap all that content over into the new CRM do I do that migration and then start using the product on day one? Is there a way to feed it over time? What's the right process as you're thinking about solving for technical debt when you're migrating from one solution to the next? So zapier has tools that can allow you to transfer data from pipe drive into your new CRM. And you could set up processes to make that transition happen smoothly so that the data is processed and shows up in the new serum in the way that you envision it. That's one way that you can use automation to help remove technical debt, another great way that I like to use zapier to manage technical debt is to use zaps to set up alerts as well. So once you do set up that new automation system or your new CRM, you could set up all kinds of zaps and alerts to let you know when data is slightly off when, for example, UTMs are missing from campaigns when campaigns are turned on, but haven't sent emails in several days. So we rely on zapier quite heavily for alerts to keep that data once it's in the new CRM really consistent. That's interesting. When I think of technical debt, I think of the platform isn't working or the data is in the wrong place. And there's this sort of migration. And we talked about this offline about how basically bulk exporting and importing the data isn't necessarily zapier as core skill set, there are other tools that do that and you've built some other features in-house that are supporting that. It's more meant for the regular flow of data. And that's how I have always thought of zapier, but it's interesting to hear that the notifications and sort of alerting mechanisms are something that you're using when you're working with a legacy system. I need the bells and whistles. Well, you might be able to take the system that you're using and make it more advanced by adding those alerting systems as well. Time for a one minute break to hear from our presenting sponsor HubSpot, from ride sharing the file sharing and everything in between. If you use an app or a website to engage with your customers, you know that your platform needs to be able to keep up with their needs. HubSpot is trusted by enterprises and entrepreneurs to keep up with customers needs and deliver a seamless customer experience no matter the interaction, with easy to use web editing tools, HubSpot helps your team publish an update your website with ease. And with the developer quality code free drag and drop website editor, anyone on your team can update pages and edit content, helping your customers access the site updates as soon as they're ready. To learn more about how your business can grow better, visit HubSpot dot com. Talk to me a little bit more about how you are using zapier at zapier. What are some of the ways that you avoid technical debt? I'm just interested to hear how does zapier eat their own dog food? So we definitely use it to standardize a lot of our marketing processes, a great example of that is our lead intake process. So whenever we run campaigns where we're acquiring new leads, we tend to rely on zaps versus list uploads or excel vaccine CSV uploads, which helps us eliminate a lot of the human error that can cause technical debt over time. Another way that we use it is to help us with managing some of the more risky technical debt issues that can pop up particularly around compliance and can spam in GDPR. So we automate processes to help us remain compliant. So we have an alert that notifies all tool owners when we receive a data deletion request from a customer and then a zap that marks all of the context in our CRM that need to be removed. So there are countless ways that we use zapier and our marketing ops team, but those are some of the key ways that it helps us maintain data integrity and ensure that we're not gathering technical debt that we're unaware of. Yeah, it's interesting that you're thinking about it not only from an alerting perspective from a data transfer perspective, but also from a data deletion perspective, right? One of the reasons why technical debt exists is that sort of the underlying environment that you're working in changes. You mentioned GDPR. Well, we can't email people that are outside of the United States with this type of campaign because it conflicts with new legislation. Do we have to build a new email marketing system? Do we have to leverage an agency? Do we have to stop the marketing campaign all at once? It sounds like the answer is no. We have to build in checks and balances within our existing systems and zapier is a great way to do that. So Lindsay, I guess one of the big questions here when you're thinking about technical debt and there's all sorts of different ways that you can use zaps to build marketing processes and alerts and notifications, the landscape can be changing like you mentioned with GDPR. How do you.

"Bengals steelers. It'd be nice to have all the wide receivers healthy in this game. But here's your stat of the game as it relates to nausea harris. The bengals have faced two running backs. Dalvin cook and david montgomery. Both of them had twenty carries for sixty one yards is. Nashi harris. A must start. I got him rank that way. It's easier to do an npr. The non-pwi pr. Frankly i'd be a little surprised if he had sixty one rush yards just because the offensive line has been an absolute killer for them. We know that rothlisberger isn't playing at a hundred percent and if they don't have dante johnson that's that's gonna hurt them in the passing game to could it help nausea harris. If they don't have dave they could run the ball effectively and have demonstrated that within the first two weeks of the season. Then i would say yes. My time did say we got to run the ball better. I mean they say last year reached into existence. It doesn't mean it's going to happen all right fine. Would you start madison or obviously if cookies or najji now i've nausea ring tire all right. When don't we feel about it. Why don't we stick with the steelers. Here sit ben rothlisberger. He has twenty eight fantasy points in two games The bengals pass defense has not been so good in against cousins and And the bears dalton. At least and all right jimmy or jamie. Give me your thoughts on the wide receivers with without the anti johnson johnson plays. He's still the best one visa less than one hundred percent. He just gets too many targets..

"The bengals one of the better single high safety in the league in jessie bates He's one of the top single high safety in the nfl Minkah fitzpatrick i think is a better overall player. But i would put bates ahead of patrick. If you're only doing like a cover one where you got one. Deep safety betas better. He covers a lot of ground. He's very smart about how he moves. And we're facing that we're facing. That would at a time where the steelers are being successfully defended by single safeties. Because we're not. Seeing ben rothlisberger and these wide receivers beat the deep reliably enough to make them consider putting two guys back there. And i brought this up because a lot because that's what we used to always see for. Ben rothlisberger ben. Rothlisberger was exactly that do that. If you put single high stakes especially against the bengals the bengals used to do it. Martavis bryant they put a guy out in man on martavis bryant with just one just one safety deep and ben would absolutely destroy them throughout the game until they backed off a second saiki to put multiple players deep. He always did that. That was one of his great strength. That's why the pump fake was so dangerous and how he looked safety so dangerous because if you played single high safety and we had a deep threat on the outside you were toast like you're just if if if that wide receiver wants his release you're done and right now. The steelers have one of the better threats. They've had i think the best. Threaten chase capel. They've had since mike wallace and yet it's not working because you don't see don't see see ben challenging the free safety and all right now you see all of throws out to the sideline out like hey taste goat young joe jump over guy including pass this last game where chase clayton. We'll have the jump over the cornerback. Because ben through to the leverage of the cornerback when there was no one in the middle. And you're just like that's you know is this is this is that one bad throw. Is that one bad read. But it's been two seasons of this. You know this is the second season of this and you really have to start asking like hey is is this now ben rothlisberger. Is this thirty nine year. Old ben rothlisberger at is he not going to be able to to carry a team. That doesn't have an offensive line. The he can't do that then. The offensive line has to get it together or this offense is going to be. I mean right now. The offense is awful. Our offense is is kind of trash. And is it going to get better. That's like something either quarterback or the offensive line get drastically better than they have been recently. And that's that's a big question. Mark this important conversation That i think we need to continue here you look at the steelers offense therefore deep it receiver. I don't know how many teams can rival that they're tight ends. I generally think they got a dude and pat far. And i still think eric. Rania has his talents. Nausea is a really really good running back prospect. At honestly. I feel like if you stuck him on the browns He up there with the league. Leader said behind any good offense align really. He looks all that but he's getting eaten alive by By poor performances. In front of him You mentioned ben rothlisberger specifically could we be looking at. What is kind of the end here for big. Ben is this. Is this training in the wrong direction. Is there anything he can do. Or is the hay in the barn really and it's time to just kind of take the old horse round back. Wow well white. Michael taken a little farther than the i would. Just let him retire. You know i'm personally not for capital funds. I'm sorry i understand your analogy. I just i'm i'm messing with you I i think we're there. You know like last season peyton manning. We're not that bad with ben. Ben is not what peyton manning was his very last season where they won the super bowl in spite of him of but also this team with that offensive line like you said we have a ton of skill position talent. We have a really young offensive. Line that right now each. You know it's like we've got a souped up sports car But the offensive line is the engine and the engine is is unreliable in the the driver is is a little old in his. You know puttering around. It's it's not a performance gar at this point because it doesn't it doesn't have a great driver and it doesn't have a great engine I think is the offensive line can get it together. This team can still be some. That's where we've been this whole season. I'm sticking with that if this offensive line can get together and get get become a good offensive line before ben rothlisberger gets hurt then then. This team can be something if not. You're dealing with an offensive line. That is is not good enough and a quarterback that needs a good offensive line to be good. And i think he can still be great if he has that offensive line. I think at this point of his career. Those hits hurt enough. They stick with him you know. And and they carry from game to game. He's not he's got a peck injury. He doesn't already got it like he's just you know. Your old was argued that your body doesn't heal like it used to. You're gonna be sore is going to hints are gonna gonna wear and they're going to build up the bangs and little little problems are going to build up more than they used to and so this very very well could be could be it. A we looked bleak. One like we had a defense could carry this team until that point but then you know you lose some players and it's not that defense anymore it can't carry it. I don't know. I don't know it's really weird place. Look at this bengals game. And i'm like you know this could be get right game for the steelers because it's the bengals because it's another game you know heinz field or we could get a couple of players back we you know we have. We have their coach. I think we have him pretty much figured out Unless he changes things up but again martinez added a new threat with the deep ball. I'd like to. I don't know where we are in this game. It has to be a get right game or this season is in real trouble now. We are approaching the first half hour mark of our show here today so before we get to our special guests on. I'm curious what your final score can. Thoughts are after the steelers second home game of the year against the cincinnati bengals. I oh man.

"We'll the steelers are one of many teams that are dealing with injuries. This season and head coach. Mike tomlin said that ben rothlisberger is the latest to be added to that list. Ben has a as a pack injury of some kind on his left. Pack that could affect him from a preparation standpoint Don't have any idea how much i sit here right now. But we better be ready to be adjustable in in deal with that. I like that adjustable. We have to be ready to be adjustable. Perfect word there. You might think he's great. He's great but is not a great situation for the steelers albeit not terribly surprising when we saw it last week. He looked old against buffalo like he in week. One of the best off season ever. Yeah he looked like an old man moving out of the pocket of the off season or the preseason. I should say. I don't know it was making the preseason team in look great ben fast chain shoot harvests mood the moon could be sucking the water out of his pictorials nd because of his lack of diet and regimen. I started. that's really funny. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do with dealers. I i would feel better about this situation if they were able to run the ball but they're not so i mean not at all. Yeah can't run the ball. You have today watts. It is so their offense. It's say it's the worst i've seen. It's the worst..

"Remember taste klay pool in the end zone reaching back up over the defensive back trying to catch a ball hands on it. But as he's coming down he doesn't really have it well secured and the defensive back has his hands in there as able swatted away. You hear a lot of man chase who got to be the guy who could bring that ball down but when you watch that play this is the play i put up on my twitter feed it's fantasy skippy talk about. I gave you that in the first half but it's also on my twitter. Feed this one if you look at it. There's no deep help at all. The cornerback has outside leverage right. And there's no one in the middle of the field. The two other deep defenders are both on other receivers and they're nowhere near the ball. Nowhere near tastes. Play pool and ben rothlisberger seeing chase klay pool running up the sideline inside of the defensive backs. The defensive back has outside leverage on tape pool throws it outside ben. Rothlisberger throws it into the coverage into the defenders leverage. Meaning as klay pool has to physically position himself against this cornerback and jump up over the quarterback to bring the ball. In if ben rothlisberger had placed that ball inside chase cleveland's walking into that end zone with a touchdown like mike wallis martavis bryant sammie coates. Ab all these guys used to jews. You did it a couple of times in two thousand seventeen then run. Those routes and ben would hit them between the safety and the corner. What we're seeing this seat year we saw last year. Ben rothlisberger is not willing to take those shots when the cornerback has is outside and his receivers inside of him going up the field and there's a single deep safety or and that play while when there wasn't a single deep safety there was no deep help. He doesn't take those shots. He hasn't been taking those shots very much. I don't know if it's a matter if he doesn't trust his arm. I don't know if it's a matter of he's not seen it will. I mean he's thirty nine. We know his skills have diminish. We know he's not the same quarterback he was even in two thousand seventeen with an arm injury time off and he's older one away the ways that showing up is ben rothlisberger. Not taking those shots. There was a a thing on the. Nfl's next gen stats. Or they showed the passing charts. And ben rothlisberger had zero throws to the deep metal zero and he hasn't had many the last two seasons. If you were saying why. What's wrong with the offense. What are they doing. Why aren't they throwing deepens. Npr saying is because ben rothlisberger can't throw a ball more than seventeen inches. Will the the truth of it is teams are playing single. Deep safety and ben rothlisberger is not willing to task that deep safety..

Eighty eight yards and a touchdown but the big play came from the steelers. Special teams rothlisberger told sal pal after the game why the steelers were able to come away with the win. Overall guys just didn't panic guys didn't worry if they didn't make the right play or make mistakes and i think the biggest thing is we didn't make that key mistake right a turnover or something that that just changes the game I thought played well. Are they got out. They took the steelers in his game with my bet on friday with my money and everybody looked at me like i was a damn fu but hey i knew mike tomlin going into buffalo like veer off the burgers said. Would always say about these quarterbacks we we we think that we gotta have a statistical and the regular season to get to the super bowl. That is true to win last year. Don't have to have to free. But last year the league figure them out after a while and it caught up to ask her about it. They were banged up hurt. I'll take any day a guy that could go eighteen to thirty two four hundred and eighty eight yards. Don't turn the ball over. And give you take the w i'll take it home and always give you at least as many. W l's no matter what the circumstance and finally rounds led for most of.

"Granted ben was throwing the ball really fast in man. I was reading an article today behind the curtain dot com. Your one stop shop for often. Pittsburgh steelers it was by the great k. T smith also known as china shop which stands for cliff. Hair is still a punk and he did a it was three keys to victory for the steelers so this is kind of kind of part of this as well but i was watching some of those clips last year and my goodness i was watched the offensive line. And it's at the snap of the ball. They had such a big backtrack. They were just getting. i mean. Just bull rushed. Ben rothlisberger catch. Snap throw the ball because the guys were right there. It's like they did did nothing but just give ground give ground and not be physical at all. I'm hoping that's not the case anymore. But when. I said that they're allowed to give up one second. I'll say that's okay. That's because buffalo last year when they got two or more sacks in a game they were eleven in one there are eleven and one last year so those are some things that offense needs to do get ninety yards rushing. Don't turn the ball over and make sure you're protecting ben rothlisberger everything else. It would be great but it wasn't enough of a correlation to say they. It was a really big difference maker to be one of those quote unquote jackpot numbers. So let's the defense fish have a little bit more. The notes three of them so that was three for the offense. Let's look at three for the defense. The defense three hundred okay. This is sparta. no not that. Three hundred three hundred passing yards game last season when buffalo.

"The performance. Do you feel like this changed your outlook on the season. So i gave three options. One option was excuse me. They'll be better so in other words after the victory in the way that they performed on saturday night the steelers will actually be better than what we thought going into that game the other option was they'll be about the same and then the third option is they will stink. There's always people that are. Just either they do it. Just a click on it. Or i don't know head over a thousand votes. Hasn't been up that long only a few hours at the moment of this being recorded and at the time fifty eight point nine percent of people that voted said that they think that after that game on saturday night against detroit that the steelers will be better in twenty twenty one than what they thought. So something happened. Whether it was offensively. I guarantee is ostensibly. They did something the steelers that is did something that they're like. Wow this team could actually be pretty good. Maybe it was harris catch and run. Maybe it was ben rothlisberger showing some arm strength through the past. Deonte johnson down the field. Maybe it was the fact that they were able to run the ball a little bit. I don't know i don't know about the same. As thirty seven point nine percents a thirty seven point. Nine percent of people said that their expectations haven't really changed too much. they're about the same and then of course there's the three point one percent that said they're gonna stink. Of course there's a three point one percent that say they're going to stink so for me. I think that my expectations aren't really changed at all. I thought that the steelers team is a double digit win team. Before the preseason even started that was my prediction. I thought that they could at least win. Ten eleven even more games than that and what they're doing right now. They're validating what. I thought when we started this whole process there. Validating the fact that okay. When i look at this team now i see a team that it could do some damage that is going to be more competitive even in this tough schedule than maybe we thought if they can stay healthy and that's a huge if we always know that but still think about that. Heavier expectations changed tough question. That's a tough question. But i'll tell you what we're gonna talk winners and losers rate when we get back from this big as well as a finnish. That's i gotta get something off my chest kind of embarrassing..

It's going to be a lot of fun throughout the season when we do our game. Picks and things like that We'll be talking a lot of trash. I it's just it's just fun. I enjoy having him on the show. And i thank you for that also my heart to heart. I wanna finish this up with a quick hard to heart here. We have been office burger thirty nine years old entering year. Eighteen in the nfl. I feel like i say this every year. But i really wanna make sure i have as is it. Every season is as much as i can remember in. That is enjoy the time that you have with ben roths runner center. It's going to end at some point. Maybe it's after this year. Maybe it's not we don't know but every great player eventually has the point where they are done doesn't always necessarily mean that they have to end on a sour note that they are done when they can't physically do it anymore but every professional player eventually says i'm going to call it a career and we know that that time is closer than it is further away with rothlisberger and so i wanna just make sure that as the steeler fans prepare for this third preseason game as steeler fans prepare for this season understand in remember what two thousand nineteen was like. We all wanna talk about the next quarterback. Is it dwayne haskins. Is it mason. Rudolph not that. They are long-term. Answer but who would be the next big who would be the successor. A quarterback is much as i love debating that and talking about it. I'm not looking forward to that either. I'm really not i. I'm a big ben rothlisberger fan. And i really don't want to see him go anytime soon. I hope he plays well. I hope he continues to play. Well and heck. I would be fine welcoming him back in two thousand twenty two if he proves he can still played a high level. But understand that even if you get frustrated with rothlisberger understand that it's going to end sooner than later in. Just show an appreciation that's it. That's a simple heart-to-heart. Appreciate big ben while you have him because when he's gone you end up him. I know my dad talked about it. When terry bradshaw eventually retired. It'll be the same thing in pittsburgh. When ben rothlisberger leaves you just hope they don't have that from bradshaw ben era which was just like. One jumbled. Mess does all right folks. That doesn't for me for this friday. I hope you have a great friday. I hope you have a great weekend plan. Hope you enjoy the game on saturday. Make sure you check me out on the post game. Show with brian. Anthony davis and dave scofield live on. Youtube will also be under audio side. And then i'll be back on monday to talk all things steelers especially winners. Losers from saturday's game. You know how we finish out here folks be safe be kind in. God bless. Every weekend goes dealers. We'll see and barry the morning..

"Something like a conditional pick this year if he plays let's say seventy five percent more of the sap's in twenty twenty one. We would give three first round picks if we would acquire him if he doesn't play this year. Obviously the value will go down. So i am talking to my owner. I'm talking to my head coach. But most importantly i am calling nicosia. All the time agreed to make sure he knows that we are at the top of the list whether it one other dynamic. That's really important here. If we go back to twenty ten. Ben rothlisberger was suspended for six games for the violation of the personal conduct policy without any criminal charges. So even if it's a big if if the shawn watson ever settles the criminal situation he is still very much in play for a suspension by the commissioner and there is as we've seen in many cases before there's really no way of gauging. What a timetable. On that may look like and so the teams don't know that because the league doesn't know that dan orlovsky what do you think. I wanna take everyone inside the locker room greenie because i just want to be candid about six. I think the most important thing. If i was a player in a locker room that was entertaining. Going to trade. For deshaun watson i would hope and pray that my organization got all the information that they could because he'd rather be late than early to this party because the allegations are what they are and i would hope. That is a personal locker room. A man who's married. I've got a daughter. Like i'd hope that they covered all their bases. And all the information necessary. And then i would hope and pray that we've got a head. Coach can handle the situation and a front office that can handle the situation and leadership in our locker room that can handle what potentially just from a media situation.

"I wanna start off with big ben. Rc more or less than twenty eight touchdown passes for ben rothlisberger. What do you think well. You know what we're going to go with with more. And that's just because i wanna go with more or less than thirty dollars. Last year we saw with this offense did down the stretch of the season right. We saw the sepsis against cleveland. We saw the games where they weren't as prolific as. They were early on in the season. But this team is going to be a run. I met. Canada does a great job of using play action of using motion. Before the snap to allow his quarterbacks get a view of what's happening and i think been big ben. Rothlisberger gets back to the point. He got to last year except for a lot of those. Such thousands come in into clutch so rob more or less than thirty two touchdowns for dak prescott. Hey you just hit him with a bag of cash so he's going to have to throw more than thirty two. So i'm going more. And i say that because we all know that in that quarterback group especially in dallas. He's the man and he's going to have to go out there and play well and for the cowboys to win. I think he's going to have to throw a lot of touchdown. So i'm going with more i. I hope he throws more. Because i'm a i'm a fan so for me getting paid. It's his team. Now he's got the keys for the next ten years so more healthy. How can you not that offense are. Let's step it up by a touchdown more or less than thirty three touchdowns for the mark jackson. Listen.

"All of our afternoon shows and then also we have these this new lineup. That's coming out with jeffrey benedict's going to be doing a solo show. We already know. Mattie peril show the war room which is a great show. Just totally different. We have a fantasy football. Show with jeremy beds. It's going be debuting. The ohioans are going to be doing the steelers power half hour. what in talking about is going to debut. It's exciting for someone that if you're someone that likes podcast he can't get enough of the pittsburgh steelers. I can't think of a better platform than ours. Right here behind the curtain. That's all going to say about that. But something i want to say something i want to talk about is fans out there. As we approach this season please beware of the mainstream narrative. And i've got a little pep in my step. I told my wife is. I was writing these showdown. She was sitting next to me and she said a. You have a lot of talk about today. And i said i do. Football is now back. I'm not sitting out cutting grass wondering what the heck am. I gonna talk about on friday. I mean seriously. There's nothing going on. Finally we are going to have a lot of stuff to talk about in as on the at the steelers actually practice for the first time. I'm checking twitter because obviously the news can break at any time. Just think about on wednesday afternoon was when jerry do lack of the pittsburgh post. Gazette said the devon bush's knee is Basically given one hundred percent clearance he should be back in practice. And not miss anything News like that happens. I have to check twitter all the time and i see brook prior. Espn is sharing some video of her on different. Espn shows. One of them was the get up shell with greeny with with greenberg. And that's my greenberg. From formerly of mike and mike which was a great radio show. I can't stand get up personally. I can't stay. espn really anymore. But here's here's what it was. And here's what kind of chat my you know. Wear if you're familiar with the term. So greenberg was asking brooke prior some questions in brooke. Priors outside of heinz field. They've got the backdrop all that good stuff and he says brooke what. What's the deal you know with. Ben rothlisberger ben. Rothlisberger played behind that horrible offensive line. He was really b to paul last year they were just awful and i'm sitting there thinking to myself. Are you serious agrees. Serious right now in. Why am i saying that was the offensive line last year. Good no but did they have a strength. absolutely their strength was in pass protection. And you might sit there and say jeff that because rothlisberger kinda threw the ball really quick. He got rid of it like two point. Three seconds on average..

"Dan they just have to be. They have to be much more efficient being able to give themselves a chance to get into second short third and short type of situations and they have to be able to capture the line. It's something that they've been able to do going back years decades and i think this this change. I don't want to really say this. Change in philosophy but kinda like this kind of re establishing this philosophy is coming from the very top of this organization. Canada offense coordinator as talked about the fact that not only has mike tomlin told him that this is they want to be this year as far as the line discrimination being someone that can really dominate running the running the football that ownership that mr ruining wants this to be how this team really goes about. Its business that he wants them to be much more physical. He doesn't necessarily want them to be a team. That is constantly four or tied in bags or four wives and one running back or three wise in a tiny number and just throwing the football players. They don't wanna be that from dna from a philosophical perspective. We'll see whether or not they had the personnel to be able to do it up front and what it's going to look like remember. They had to change ben rothlisberger contract to get him back and under the cap this year. How do you think he will perform for the steelers twenty one. I think he'll play. Well i mean. I think you know this idea that he was horrible last year. Which i feel like i keep hearing. Don't think that that was the case. I mean the guy through thirty three touchdowns in ten picks just. So we're clear like justin. Herbert threw thirty one touchdowns in ten picks collar murray twenty six and twelve. Matthew stafford twenty six in ten ben. Rothlisberger is giving you a chance to win. And by the way he did it and we've established it on this show but he did it behind a bad office of line and a team that was not running the football well so now pair him with mike tomlin awesome defense a good front office that makes good personnel decisions. I don't think that that ben rothlisberger has done even when so many guys that were his contemporaries that came in the league. Same time of him him. Even those guys are done tim. I'm really curious to see how. What kind of motivation. We see behind. Ben this season as well. Will he be the type of guy who kind of takes what has been almost unequivocal doubt across the board. Except for maybe what you're saying about his potential for this season. I i think that he is the type who will sort of harness that and maybe turn it into something worthwhile. We'll find out. I mean i. I thought he was coming back when we saw the photo of them. Looked much slimmer. I know that was big. Talk on social media. But i mean pretty much look the same the press conference. Maybe just a little beard trim. So maybe that's not necessarily exactly. Ovationhair says different catholic is different so obviously he looks different. It'd be big ben's eight little different doesn't really look different but the shirt says different. So that's what we go on.
"rothlisberger" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain
"Then what they did the next week which was back to their typical starting lineup. So i will tell you this. Kevin dotson when he was in the lineup. You were looking at the steelers going over twenty points and the only game. The steelers lost with dotson in the lineup was week seventeen. So that's one thing to take from it and you're like oh yeah three one. That was weak. Seventeen numbers without ben rothlisberger and a lot of people still feel that the steelers wouldn't arrested everybody. They might have been facing a different opponent in the playoffs. Hindsight we know what it is. So that's something to think about with dotson coming back. It's really hard to judge a lot of stuff here with like big our troops because they basically played the whole time. So this was more looking at. I don't like to pick on the guy. But the steelers definitely had problems and ben rothlisberger felt like you had to throw the ball much faster when jc neighbor was in the lineup. So this offensive line for twenty twenty. One is going to really be the key. It's what is really going to come down to on this offense because one my last my last prediction for the steelers thirty predictions or thirty scenarios in thirty days on that myself a jeff hartmann did for the website. The last one i did was if ben rothlisberger has time. He's going to. He's going to push the ball deep down the field if the offensive line can give ben time. He's gonna throw it so my point. Is this week. When ben rothlisberger didn't play in twenty nineteen. We saw the throw everything short to throw everything. Short offense that the former offensive coordinator wanted to run without ben. Then then bends back and you've got a coordinated just wants to dump everything short then you have an offensive line at that late in the season was not protecting enough to give him time to throw of course is going to throw it short and now everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon of ben rothlisberger. He can't throw the ball deep. Oh okay you can say if you wanna say doesn't throw it you can't throw it well or doesn't do it. Well i'll take that argument. Say he can't do it. It's not factual. I mean all you have to do is look at the second half of that indie game and watching him throwing the ball down the field because he had time so it's not that he can't and i'm not saying he did a fantastic job of it but also when you're not having the most confidence in your line we can see that and then with no running game and everything to support it so who. There's a lots to take in with this. But i wanted to break it down. He had an idea of where things kind of started to fall apart with the steelers and how things were working with the offensive line and whether or not it was exactly what the problem was or not. I think it was a big combination of things. So i don't want to just lay it on one thing but if you wanted to look at this to see what part it played there. It was so i always to say this. I've got a. I've got a question. I got an answer for next week. I just wasn't able to get all the answer to it in time for this week. Show that that. I really am looking forward to answering next week. But i'm always looking for questions at st are superfan data on twitter or st l. Are superfan dead at gmail.com on the email side of things you can send me an email or message on twitter anytime asking stats question that i use on the show. Sometimes people just ask a question just to ask it to get it answered right then and i like to do that as much as i can. So makes you check it out all the audio podcasts. All hit the live shows. That's fantastic as well. That are on youtube and facebook every day. Additionally make sure you're checking out.
"rothlisberger" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
"Good one. That's a great one lockdown corner amply another good one of the best one yet to watts. Got one wait too long. T. minutes t minus five minutes here guys. What do you think they're saying inside there right now. Holy shit. why are we doing this. You're probably afraid. No as jessica said it's totally safe. There's no reason to be nervous at all. Josh dobbs is good but he's also been in the league for two years. See this is not. We're not we're not doing eighties. Nineties thousands or even tens anymore. He's also an astrophysicist. Dan he should be going to space date mason rudolph's ex-girlfriend or something like that yes. They were both dating love. Triangles backup quarterbacks for the steelers. You would know this story just. You're just you know. The story is a steeler fan. I don't wanna talk about steelers Soap opera drama today. I'm having a mental health day. That had to be awkward there. All of that josh dobbs and mason rudolph dating the same woman while sharing a huddle Sharing a locker room and sharing not a lot politically. there's a not be how. Do you know so much about josh. Dodds is political leanings. You're just. I think that's an assumption on your part. Either way any huddles a tick talker actually expose ben rothlisberger. Who had an interesting pre. Snap motion that would determine whether or not it was a passer. Run juic- stan. I did not know he was. He's tipping his tapping. the dealer plays. Do you know this story jessica. Now tell us. Mike all right so it's at the oh ash. Nfl on tick-tock and rothlisberger as a very basic yet very clear pre-snap tell which gives away whether the next play will be a run or a pass it comes in a shotgun formation which is the majority of what the steelers us and here. It is when it's a run. Ben rothlisberger sands flat-footed before the sap when it's passed he lifts his left heel off the ground before the snap. He does this all the time. You can't can't be it can't. How many was that greg. One those big ones along gated coffee should cover one that it can't be that it cannot be that these all of these people spend this many hours studying this much film to get any kind of advantage and nobody on the steelers is noticing. Our quarterback is tipping all of the plays by lifting his left heel. That's a pass play. It cannot be that simple. These guys are in their computers all week. They're working twenty hours a week. This song coaching staff of people or the dolphins didn't notice tannahill tip in his plays eater. I don't think that was tannahill. I think he was the coaching staff. The snap count for an entire season was go for a pass and go for a run and you can hear clear as day watching at home and it was one hundred percent of the time that everyone just knew the dolphins cadence and they didn't make any effort to fix it over the course of the season and naturally mike sherman. The next season was coaching high school. Football so you guys believe this story. There feels like proof around the steelers story that ben roethlisberger who couldn't throw the football last year like i don't know if you saw drew brees here. He was asked by tariq whether or not he would ever consider coming back and he's like my arm feels right now worse than it ever has. I couldn't do anything. I could give you like a drive but because i haven't been doing all of the throws stopped. My arm feels terrible ben. Rothlisberger looked like exactly. How every quarterback. Before tom brady used to age he looked mike. You saw that game against the steelers. They were gained planning in a way that was ever. He wouldn't throw the ball down the field. It was all these really quick passes and all he would do is try and throw. The six yard passes all season and they started off the season. Well and then everyone realized. Oh no their quarterback is totally noodle arm. He had thirty three touchdowns ten interceptions which is good. But you're right in terms of yardage and he played fifteen games. He only through for thirty six hundred yard. Thirty eight hundred yards so which is low for also had a drop ball epidemic last year. like they just. He didn't have any help. I'm not defending ben rothlisberger. But last year he came back from this whole complete elbow reconstruction and probably shouldn't have even really been playing but he did just to god's point he put a decent amount of numbers but the steelers didn't have a balanced offense they were playing with james connor who is kind of banged up all year. Bunny snell was their backup and They also lost four players on defense to torn. acl's midway through the season around the time that their winning streak ended so there's a lot more to the steelers season just ben rothlisberger not being able to throw the ball more than twenty yards downfield. Although that was a problem the problem. That's what i'm saying. Dan knows the thirty. Three ten is good but rothlisberger. Two seasons ago had over five thousand yards passing this year. He was on four mean. This is rare for me. Okay because that that sport eludes me a little bit wherein i'm watching and i'm like is what i'm seeing real. I have a hard time with all of the schemes and all of the coaching. And everything else. Oh we're t- mighty mighty ten t minus There were blasting off five or two on right so far so good. Those flames billy lauder flames. Left off at liftoff is a penis. Okay how are we. Capturing this video this a blimp drone and theirs looks flames so far. So good this is looking good. I think we're going to be able to publishes local hour. Everybody okay. this is this needs to land. Everyone needs to can't get get back. It's gonna be a half hour from now. According to wittingham they still need to jump out of the space plane with parachutes back cannot be. The plan is absolutely not adverse. There's gotta be a splash landings splash speaking of which rarely do my eyes. Tell me what you guys are telling me is the truth. Which is those. Statistics are ally that season. That team started the season undefeated. Nobody believed that the undefeated was for real. She saying they got injured on defensive. Did their defense look great. But when you watch their offense play. It wasn't the space age stuff everyone else is doing. Let's make it quick pass. Let's turn the quick passes into the modern day. Hand off because we can do it. It's all pittsburgh could do. And it's all pittsburgh could do. I thought just because their quarterback has aged that way and his arm is that noodled. It was not the guy that i was used to throw the ball all over the field now. He says he's come back in tom. Brady shape done all. The tom brady diet things. We've made fun of him for years for being of skyscraper with legs and he never took care of himself and it had to come back to haunt him right. we had. The conversation was a trevor pryce. Who said somebody said hitting ben rothlisberger hitting glass. You just sink into tom brady. It's like hitting water because ben rothlisberger tissues aren't There used to be. I'm sure there are people right now. That don't remember what ben rothlisberger used to be which would be impossible to to sack. He be impossible to bring. One guy was not sacking. Him he was he was. It was the most frustrating experience for the browns. That's why their game plan. Last year was for him to get rid of the ball in less than two seconds..
Steelers Sign Pro Bowl Guard Trai Turner After Releasing David DeCastro
"The steelers made some news yesterday by releasing veteran guard. David decastro cut saves the steelers eight point seven million dollars in cap space and they moved quickly to replace decastro by signing free agent guard trae turner but this all comes after longtime senator mark pouncey retired and the steelers lost offense lineman matt feiler now one hundred villanueva in free agency back in march so big changes for a unit in charge of protecting thirty nine year. Old ben rothlisberger jeff. How did this all come about. Well dan if we didn't already have all these questions about the offensive linemen. Decastro comes along and is dealing with what he now says. We'll be another ankle surgery. He is not sure whether he'll continue his career. He says that he would be happy to hang it. Up if indeed. His ankle can't recovering time for the season. But this is certainly a situation facing this steelers team. That makes things even murkier now. We should point out. They did sign trai. Turner guard has some pro bowls. Resumes did miss nine games last year. But now this team will be with four new starters on the offensive line's important note though here that they struggled last year so perhaps they can just get better with a new group
Josh Dobbs Signs One-Year Deal With Steelers
"I guess the other news of today and kind of completely overshadowed by of into william signing Josh dobbs quarterback is back for year number. Five with the pittsburgh steelers. What do you think of a the the readmission of josh dobbs With the black and goal. I like it. I think it really for people who want a quarterback hauling out the best news. I think i think it's more than anything. Vote of confidence in the guys they have. You wanna fourth quarterback for camp and josh dobbs in my opinion is the right kind of quarterback to push a dwayne haskins. He's not going to match. Dwayne haskins talent with the questions on dwayne haskins. Aren't does he have talent questions are you know. Where's his head in the game. What's his Level what's he like in the locker room. You know you're talking leadership and you're talking. You know the love of the game sitting in the film room watching the film breaking stuff down understanding the offense all these things. Those are josh dobbs strengths. Just odd isn't the greatest passer but he does that to the point that he's you know a guy. Ben rothlisberger likes because he can rely on him so to me. He's an insurance policy. Should dwayne haskins causing any problems and they have to get rid of. It has to cut ties with him. And he's also the kind of guy to plush dwayne haskins in the in the film room kind of be that guy who's like you know try and keep up your kid like let's go. It's it's time for you to learn this. It's time for you really. It's it's your what third season you know. You need to have this stuff down So i think josh dobbs is actually the perfect addition to push him and honestly if he sticks around. He's someone bent likes having around.
Breakdown of Ben Roethlisberger’s new contract
"Ben roethlisberger has a new contract. So what is what is the tweet. What's the headline the pittsburgh steelers. Send this out. We have signed quarterback ben rothlisberger to a new contract for twenty twenty one period. That's it what. I'm sitting there reading this thing and they can't be serious they cannot be serious. Said that's it. We've signed ben rothlisberger to a new contract for twenty twenty one. What are you talking about. He was already under contract for twenty twenty one. His salary cap hid for twenty. Twenty one was forty million dollars so we knew that he was. I'm reading this thinking. What in the world they talking about. This is the worst headline writing or is just the dumbest story i've ever seen in my life and so you're wondering okay. I gotta go to this article. Because i need to see what in the world they're talking about and so you click on it and it's literally three paragraphs the pittsburgh signed ben rothlisberger to to a new contract for twenty twenty one. It was announced today. Okay what does this mean a new contract. So here's what general manager and vice president. Kevin colbert says quote. We are excited. We were able to come to an agreement with ben rothlisberger on a new contract for him to return to the steelers in twenty twenty one pause a new contract for him to return to the steelers in twenty twenty one. He was coming back anyways. I know that they wanted to give the salary cap down. What a what do you think we are idiots. Let me continue quote. We know the ben can still played a high level in do special things for this team. Our goal remains the same to put together a roster that will compete for another championship. We are happy that dan will be one of our leaders to help accomplish that goal. End quote
Who will be Indianapolis Colts' quarterback in 2021
"But we begin today with music that philip rivers is retiring after seventeen seasons in the nfl. Sixteen with the chargers and san diego and los angeles and this one season in indianapolis when he got to the playoffs rivers never got to the super bowl but he stands fifth all time in passing yards and touchdown passes and he started the final. Two hundred forty games of his career without interruption will now become a high school football coach in alabama. Like his dad. We'll how will you remember his career. Well tony we automatically in any sport. Now we began to group people right and we associate certain people with certain folks football. It's done by position you know in a way that is probably not in the other sports. But i think of warren moon and dan fouts guys who were prolific prolific players who had long runs and played almost every game and they had a piled up passing stats. Galore like rivers did but they didn't reach the super bowl and then about through no fault of their own. Their teams weren't good enough. They got close. Each of those three gentlemen got close. But didn't have the breakthrough to the super bowl and rivers the same way river sets himself apart because he ran his mouth a lot. Which i have done without and i tend to like trash talkers but i i am. I didn't take to that. But he was a prolific quarterback. Tony he will receive serious consideration for the hall of fame. You know. I mean fouts and moon that to me shapes the category. I don't know if you've got other names. You'd like to put in there as well. Get to the hall of fame in a second but in looking at philip rivers his career. I thought he was a very very good player. I will remember. Most is the way the way he delivered the ball where he wound up and threw it as far as he could. And most of the time you thought it wasn't even going to get there. But it got there especially with antonio gates and it ended up in the end zone a lot. You talked about grouping people. Well i'm gonna group them as well. I'm going to group them with his draft class and draft class ally manning ben rothlisberger. They both dot to multiple super bowls. They both won super bowls. I feel badly for philip rivers in this regard to me. It's like charles barkley. It's everything but the ring because the statistics are certainly there. And i thought it was a very good quarterback. I'll take the hall of fame issue. I'll add another name dan marino. Who never won a super bowl if the comparables to marino and to moon and to fouts are rare. Then he's going to get in. I don't think they hold it against you. If you haven't won a super bowl there are people who've won. Two super bowls aren't in the hall of fame. You not room for a long ten years. Yeah do you think he would get in.
Bill Barnwell on NFL Week 14
"To one bill barnwell. We just watched the now. Ten and three bills beat the now eleven two steelers twenty six to fifteen and i am not certain of many things in this world anymore. But i am pretty certain. They're going to be a lot of babies named josh or in buffalo alone that people in buffalo are named. Ej drew rob tyron. We're all going to have to change their name to josh. Over the next few months bill barnwell host the bill barnwell show podcast. And you can find his indispensable. Nfl column on espn plus every monday. He's also never broken a table that we know of. They'll help me understand this. How did the buffalo bills turned things around after such a slow. Start on offense tonight. This was interesting because the slowest kinda out to these sort of exact start you would want right. I mean josh. Allen was struggling the steelers pass rush was in his face early and often does allen. Started this game seven of sixteen for thirty nine yards with an interception and a fumble alan of the gun. He's back late rush. Throws it down the left side line and it's intercepted that is a great offense was struggling on the side of the ball. It's fair to say but look like the steelers were josh allens head and maybe last year that would have been it. Josh allen never would have recovered this year is different. Josh allen is different and he has a weapon nobody can cover and the combination of allen and stefan digs took advantage of some rare mistakes and misplace. From the pittsburgh steelers allen's a hot stretch started really with the steelers tried to tackle digs on a third in three without hands which is hard. Alan took that playoff field for twenty three yards. And then he got going digs had two catches on plays. Were still defensive. Backs just fell down including a touchdown and now made one great throw against to coverage for a touchdown. Pass to gabriel davis. Cox's arm fires into the renzo caught buffalo touchdown bills. Gabriel davis caught a thirteen yard strike. And a second throw on the run of long pass interference penalty to dos knox. It seemed like the steelers might have figured out the third year quarterback but by the second half it was pretty clear things where the other way around so looking at the steelers now bill. I am curious what exactly has been solved with them because this is a team that went from undefeated not so long ago to losing two in a row now to washington and buffalo so based on what. You've seen these last two weeks. How worried should pittsburgh actually big. There's reasons for legitimate concern here. I mean the defense will the problem at the end of the day they all. The bills scored nineteen points. So i'm not stressed about the defense on the whole he's had some injuries that's going to be a legitimate concern but this is still a very good defense and they are prohibitive favorites still to win the afc north. But i think even before the last two games last two losses there were concerns about this offense. The steelers came into this game ranked thirtieth in rushing offense. Dvr a football outsiders efficiency statistic but roethlisberger was twenty ninth in the league in completion percentage on de passing becoming very erratic deep passer and the stairs basically happened left with an offense but almost exclusively consists of short passes trying to the ball. Out of rothlisberger hands quickly. That's help keep him healthy. Which is great but that offense has one explosive game. Since the start in november and sunday night was not the second we saw the offense struggle in the exact same ways even though they got james conner. They're starting running back back in the lineup. They lost multiple starting offensive linemen to run the seventeen times for forty seven yards. And we're at. The speaker tried to throw deep. He was one of five for nineteen yards with a touchdown and pick now. It's possible the steelers are tired after basically going fourteen weeks without a real by they've had their to buy weeks of course basically taken away due to covert concerns. Remember the one saving grace all year for the steelers. That's they were going. Undefeated was the possibility of getting that week off asks the number one seed in the afc. Now they fall fallen behind the chiefs with bosses in their past two games. The upshot only gives steelers in eight percent. Chance of coming away with the number one seed in the conference talked about last week. That's the only way to get a buy in the playoffs. At this point the stakes happened raised for the steelers. I'm not sure whether they're up to the challenge and it feels like it is only clear that the measuring stick against which all contenders are evaluated has to be kansas city and the chiefs spill. They seem to find themselves in some amount of danger on sunday. Only to escape narrowly against the dolphins and their young quarterback to and tug of lois. Oh after watching. Patrick mahomes ultimately win this game. Thirty three to twenty seven. How did miami put this biggest scare into the now twelve in one chiefs so i will. They did something that nobody has been able to do to the chiefs all season. That's forced takeaways. Patrick mahomes hasn't made any spectacular plays. Maybe this year. Has he did during that. Mvp season his first. Starting your twenty eighteen. But they've been really effective at avoiding. Take ways they haven't had one takeaway in any one given game until the dolphins game against the dolphins homes through to early interceptions to help the dolphins get out to attend. Nothing lead back to throw my extra fake look and dumped it down. Intercepted ball picked second interception up the day of patrick mahomes and while the chiefs runoff thirty consecutive points to go ahead. The dolphins strip mccall hardin inside the red zone to stop possession the second half and then saving howard picked off mahomes in the end zone for kansas city's fourth turnover of the game. Now i don't know if that's a sustainable formula for opposing team's doing from one turnover as a maximum to four. But they were able to get back into the game and the chiefs a genuine battle by forcing those takeaways from an offense. That just hasn't done that. Really aussies
Big Ben among 4 to go on Steelers' COVID list
"The steelers have announced this morning that they have placed four players on the reserve covid nineteen list. One of them is named ben rothlisberger. Whenever i go in and out. I always order the rothlisburger. He's joined by offensive linemen. Gerald hawkins running back jalen samuels and linebacker vince. Williams must be isolated for five days in a soundproof cell. Now i don't know at. They will not be permitted to the. Up mc rooney's sports complex that the university of pittsburgh medical center. Maybe they can take part in virtual meetings. That's when you know someone hate you when they won't let you in on the zoom call. I just want to say next time we live up in this formation and we see too deep we away. What are you doing here Coded isolation yeah. We don't wanna repeal is getting covid. i know on a webcam. It's better safe than sorry. That's when you know you're hated it's hilarious. They're permitted to take part in virtual meeting. This isn't the bye week. The union may turn the bye week. Contact us don't wanna coming into the facility. We could if we need some medical treatment. But you're not you're not you're not you're not even allowed to contact your players during the bye week basically exist.
The Browns are trying a new approach heading into the 2020 season: Being quiet
"Let's start here in Cleveland atom I heard Baker Mayfield say last week last year was total and complete chaos. They had so much noise around the organization. Now it's like a church mouse. It's totally quiet. WHAT'S THE MANTRA? What's going on there with this approach? Well the circus that was in Cleveland left and has gone to Tampa Bay in the interim. Basically, you've got a new general manager Andrew Berry new head coach, and Kevin Stefanski and the noise that accompanied this team last year has quite a quite a bit I think people are more interested in seeing Ben Rothlisberger return in Pittsburgh. The return of the NFL's raining MVP Lamar Jackson in Baltimore even the number one overall pick Joe borrowing, Cincinnati that browns are. The least sexy story in the AFC north this season and so they're flying under the radar, which is a good thing for this team. They don't need anymore engine. Let them win before we anoint the Cleveland Browns and contender and I think that they're very encouraged by what they've seen so far from their team this summer
Ben Roethlisberger got a haircut, and Pennsylvania's governor isn't happy about it
"Ben Rothlisberger got a haircut. That's not the big news of it though. Colfax people are of upset during his daily briefing Tuesday. Pennsylvania Governor Governor Tom Wolfe criticized. Roethlisberger's recent trip to Norman's cutting edge to get his haircut and beard trimmed following a workout with his Pittsburgh steelers teammates. Now Colefax. Let me just say this Ben? Huge beard? What do you hear about big beards? A are not sanitary. Yeah exactly probably a good thing that he got it. Trimmed off body was in a barbershop that were people
Are Freddie Kitchens and Baker Mayfield Holding Back the Cleveland Browns?
"GonNa go right to the fourth quarter quarter with the browns so they're down for points and Baker Mayfield and the browns run a draw play on fourth and nine and not surprisingly they came up short short then late in the fourth Cleveland at another opportunity with the first and goal from the four yard line the browns called four straight past plays with the last one resulting in an interception from Baker. That is the game for the rams after the game coach Freddie Kitchen said he regretted the play calling late in the game but Baker said it was more than that take a listen. If you're looking blame somebody blame me. Don't blame me of our players. Don't blame any of our other coaches. Just blame me because I can take it all right. So you know just blindly go go rach article and say I must have game up. Go article and say smile faulted. Things not looking like it did last year because it is. I know what you guys are. GonNa try and do is talk about the playcalling they call him but I said executions the most important thing you know whatever whenever we have called we gotta do our job all right Shannon how much blame that does Freddie Kitchens deserve here. There's a lot of the blame because give the office coordinated the coach and he's the play caller. I Guess Bakersfield Dangerous yesterday. Did you wake feeling dangerous. Gear Alexa dangerous lately. He needs to feel the need to wake up feeling danger. Tennessee woke up feeling real dangerous and that they did. Did you know what skipped look. Freddie is learning that that's to wear two hats in the NFL gets a really hard job. That's why a lot of a lot of guys. Just give that up they either just keep the headset on so they can hear everything or they call you like Andy. Reid is very unique cow Shanahan and guys like that a very unique skipped dream to be able to call the plays and be a head cold but Freddie the the thing that's hurting frady is expectations afraid of the head coach last year if they didn't have these expectations but because of the way they played the close out the season yeah and now they add dale they will add alleviate Vernon they they get they get agreement. We've the draft you like who the brow and you see the subtractions in Pittsburgh. Maybe is no longer there. ABC's no longer there yeah yeah and then what week two bengals out so now that really ratcheted up taste so now everybody expecting the browns to be really really good look doc. That's why I say each year in of itself because last year has no bearing on this year and I think the browns players and and fans are starting to realize that Freddie is starting to realize the expectation that comes along with expectations. I'm the head coach because he didn't have a whole lot of experience calling rolling blades. He's never been a head coach so now he's the head coach which means he's the CEO of the operation but by the same token. He's got a call all the plays now. I don't know what the hell call now. If I didn't no but elsewhere Freddie Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo Wild Wings coat the fourth and now you can't what the hell is that draw draw play on Yahoo. They were GONNA try to fool Agassi's pass. It got eight yards do remedy it was he ended up seven yards short. I was wondering if I was missing something watching. I'm like wait. Am I getting the goal. You got shows. You got nick. You don't give you one. Kerry now was a live. Let's put back and let's run. It is so you go so you got nick who you save or. I'M GONNA keep everybody happy. I'M GONNA get down. Here's Kevin Jarvis if Catcher Chila. It'll be thirty okay. You give make sure one crack please. okay okay scared. We're told you you keep trying to keep everybody happy to win. Games in everybody's going to be saying 'cause everybody because everybody's GonNa be safe because they nobody's gonna be getting their catches and you'll be losing games and you're going to be in a lose lose situation wages and you're going to be a part of their now that Jimmy and de Havilland. They look like hold on Okay John Dorsey now. We gave you everything everything that you want it. You got a quarterback overall. You got all these weapons. Jarvis Landry got a you got Joel hurt him but here's the things when you you made that trade y'all trash because you got the ninety nine deflategate boy human too. We're talking about the guy who had zero Saxon three the playoff games and it has zero sacks against the cowboys and the Guy who took the Cleveland browns cannot protect Baker Mayfield. They haven't for free games and the Rams took full advantage of that last night. What did I say Friday. Baker Mayfield is about to be in the wrong place at the wrong time against Wade Phillips defense offense that Cap Tom Brady and check for almost the entire super bowl. Am I right about you. Skip in another thing before I let you go. They traded their bust of Islam lobby. Get Out I'll be at the end of the day. You can have all the shiny pieces. You won't skill all these cashier that look nice. You better have a guard or to guard the money now. The money right now is six Baker Mayfield. You got a bunch of predate cashiers. You Got Jarvis and he got dale. You've got all that stuff. I did pillows but nobody protecting the money in his sketches for fifty six yards really the impact the game. Do you remember any of Nope. NOPE nope nope no so given that that was Wade Phillips Defense and right now. I think that defense is even a little better than then. Bill checks defense. That's how good it is because it has more star power to it because to leave did a number on Odell last night. I don't care what you say. You know. They'll get loose down on the field one time he had a nineteen yard catch. It didn't do much okay now back to Freddie Kitchens. I'm not sure he's going to last a whole year. I'm just not sure because bag years kept finding coach in the middle of the how I think it's it's just getting a little darker and darker in Cleveland because remember they have to go go to Baltimore next Sunday Baltimore better than everybody thought in there I think five point underdog there are five and a half actually five and a half point underdog so that the game you better believe believe it or the forty niners three and Oh yes they beffa movie bouquet. The next game is a Monday night game in Santa Clara against against the forty nine. It's Elizabeth game and then the seahawks visit. Seok student looked great yesterday but they did go to Pittsburgh while Rothlisberger played the first half right. They're capable of beating the browns right now because the browns aren't very good right now what if they lose those games and fall to one in six what's Jimmy Haslem going to do with the expectations -tations through the roof of them. He already got one coach. That's still on the pay. Roll can still play a huge. I I know you have another guy on the payroll. Just bring somebody else hears Freddie's problem after the game. He's adopted this new. Oh poor pitiful pitiful me philosophy where he just says you. I'll take it all you know. Get the lay it on me. Don't blame the players blame. Oh Freddie doesn't really look like a football coach. Does he looks more like an offensive line coach so he he doesn't look like the head coach doesn't look like he's in charge and after the Games he's kind of admitting yes screwed that one up and I screwed that go ahead just say well. If you invite the media to run through that door trust me they're going to run through it and trample on you because he is now the easiest target in the national football league. You WANNA blame Baker. Can you not really do you want to blame Odell. No not really how Jarvis no hell out him yes. Yes you know who I want to be right now. I build Danny Jones. That'd be real petty. Okay believe anything you say I'm just saying I can't believe that guy number one he could do that. I don't think he's built. He's built wake ain't skill but you know what I think. Cleveland's defense is really good remember that they had four subs playing in the defensive backfield last night. All four starters were out in hung in and did that I mean I guess why they did it to me. Jared Goff's overrated scale. He's overweight did everything he could. CLEVELAND WON'T DARWIN THIS GAME. How many times do you go on the road and turn it over three times and win the football game you tell me it was three to one and turnovers with l. A. Three to Braley won the Dow many times. Do you get away with them. That's the recipe you want. The best recipe the loser role game yeah. Turn it over thank you. They did that and they still won. One hundred ten million guaranteed right Jared Goff my money yup lots of money so back to quarterback. I love Baker Mayfield old. I'm sorry I got to tell the truth is having a hard time. He's starting to lose a little bit of nerve because he Bolton Fast Komo News. I gotta get out of here. I gotTA get out here. He needed to stand in especially on the goal line and just make one of those rows without looking over his shoulder. It's the Ford downplay. He bolts pockets so fast. I know the play hard off the right. I think yeah I think that's probably a dollar and that was that was ended up being a clay that end up being getting away with the thing is is that sometimes these quarterbacks they look in the bubble instead of stepping up. They look into get outside up that skill once you get outside. Guess what you're doing you telling the defense. Basically I got from the Hash to the side attitude rolling to the every once in a while. We'll talk about Lamar Jackson. You'll get away with a bail out with Obama did you. Did you know you don't make that. You'll go broke doing that. I would agree but Baker. Hey sometimes you gotta you gotTa Take
NFL free agency: All the latest signings
"NFL free agency officially opens for business this afternoon, but stars are already on the move sports with Adam Kaufman. Defending champion patriots of reach the big game the last three years, but there may be more parody in the AFC. This fall Steelers still have Ben Rothlisberger. But a superstar receiver and running back moved on Antonio Brown traded to the raiders and after a year off lady on bell opted to join the jets four year deal with the max value of sixty one million dollars, including thirty five mil guaranteed giants traded perennial thousand yard receiver Odell Beckham junior to the Brown. Seal team, former chief star Kareem hunt, former Super Bowl MVP, Nick foles got paid by the Jaguars golden Tate, still available, but Cole Beasley and John Brown. Picked the bills all the while. Patriots. Coach Bill bell checks been vacationing and his players leaving Trey flowers lions Cordeiro Patterson bears, Trent Brown, raiders, Eric. Rowe dolphins pants were reportedly interested in reuniting with Danny amendola, but he landed in Detroit there Adam Humphreys pursuits, but the receiver pick the titans bats did place. Steelers agree to trade Antonio Brown to Oakland Raiders
"ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting that there is a verbal agreement between the Steelers and raiders with all pro receiver Antonio Brown heading to Oakland with Pittsburgh getting a third and fifth round pick and the NFL draft in return with more on the blockbuster, Adam Schefter. Pittsburgh Steelers have an agreement to trade Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders for served in fifth round picks and some people may say well third and fifth round. That's correct third and fifth round. The Pittsburgh Steelers wanted a first round pick. They will get back a third in a fifth round pick. And again, we've got a situation here. Where this is not like your trading a receiver with unparalleled production. And just allowing him to go where he wants to get back with you want. There were a lot of factors involved in this. There were teams that were talking to them. Are there teams that basically struggled to get kind of contract? Antonio Brown want any team that was trading for him was going to have to satisfy the Steelers and was gonna have to satisfy the wide receiver Antonio Brown and show. Antonio Brown gets a new contract from the Oakland Raiders, and he's gonna make a ton of money here. Whereas before he had no guaranteed money in his contract. That is no longer the case. Now, he is going to be getting all sorts of money. Basically he went from seventeen million dollars a year. A new deal nineteen point eight million dollars, which makes him the highest paid water Stephen leak. They basically guaranteed thirty point one two five million dollars in that contract over thirty million guaranteed. No money guaranteed on the contract. So in Tony runs a big winner here. Now the Pittsburgh Steelers a year ago. There foundation was the killer beach Ben Rothlisberger Lebanon belly Antonio Brown been out this burgers the last man standing Levy. I'm Bill you're going to be playing somewhere else you Antonio Brown is going to be playing in Oakland in Las Vegas. But there was a verbal agreement to trade him to Oakland. It's hard to imagine that this wouldn't wouldn't go through Antonio Brown will be a raider about that Adam Schefter on ESPN radio's game nitrates. Can't become official in two until the new NFL league year starts on Wednesday. And we'll have much more of those blockbuster deal of Antonio Brown. We'll hear from ESPN Steelers reporter Jeremy Fowler. Coming up in fifteen minutes. He had told you a Brown broke the news at his social media accounts Postiga photo of himself raiders colors with skull-and-crossbone emojis, a raider nation. Hashtag raiders redoing brands contract will now have a three year deal with Oakland worth fifty point one two five million
Ben Roethlisberger is 'clearly a part of the problem'
"Next. Next team president art Rooney. The second said Wednesday that talks have started between the Steelers and Ben Rothlisberger on a contract extension. Big Ben who turns thirty seven in March has one year remaining on his current deal. And let's keep in mind. There's been a lot of drama and Pittsburgh fellas and Tonio Brown apparently wants out lay beyond bells that out the entire season. Not to mention that Big Ben has been going back and forth on retirement these past couple of seasons. Tedy Bruschi still here with us joining us from the Pro Bowl and Orlando I teddy. There you are. We got you got you and all your friends in the background is big and more of a problem or a solution because this franchise feels like a mess right now. Because both he's he's definitely a part of the problem because they no other men in which he's handled things. I mean, again, you know, you you've got numerous players. You've got numerous NFL aficionados that have religiously called out Big Ben for saying things in throwing people under the bubble in the fashion of the quarterbacks. Don't this is not me talking. This is basically reporting what they've said as max is done as many others. If you watch Big Ben you talking about juju Smith Schuster. We should have thrown the ball of him every time you say something like that. You've got to know you've been around Antonio Brown long enough to know, how those kind of things would affect him along with various other things in other positions that he has taken that. We don't have time to get into in the end when it comes down to is that has made him a part of the problem because Big Ben is live by different set of rules. He's a bit flagrant with it. And I don't give a. AM who you are anytime you receive preferential treatment that you are you are playing by different set of rules as everybody else you are going to rub people the wrong way, especially when you consider the individual who abuses, the privilege. That's the bottom line. Having said all of that. When you look at Big, Ben he's also a part of the solution because nobody's perfect everybody makes mistakes. And if you're willing to man up in knowledge that you could have done better in certain respects. I think that would go a long way, I think the thing that the Tonio Browns of the world and others that are incredibly frustrating is not that big been mixed the mistakes, they made is that he doesn't necessarily he isn't necessarily deemed as an individual that learns from apologized showed the pope level of contrition and move forward without making sure not to repeat those mistakes again throughout the years. You've seen a pattern of behavior that has been consistent with him in that he has gotten away with it. If you listened to those NFL players Antonio Brown is one of those NFL player. Here's somebody that has said that. And as a result, you a big band you want to alleviate this situation you speak up. You recognize us where you're at fault. And I think if he did that that would go along way. So he's both a problem and a problem solver in all of this because he's right in the middle of everything as the stock quarterback of the team who obviously has is outspoken, Saddam. Well, we agree and disagree because I think he is part of the problem the solution. But for very different reasons part of the problem because Ben Rothlisberger is like a rich man's Eli manning. He is too good for your team. Just to stink almost no matter. What's going on? Right. You're good. A win some games. Maybe make the usually make the playoffs. So how do you get his successor? There's no succession, I just talked about how you know, unless you're Bill Belichick level. And it's not so easy to find a quarterback when you're not drafting up high. You know, it's more of a crap shoot. They don't have the person there that they feel can take the reins of the team if they're truly grooming. It doesn't seem to me on the other end. Therefore at the moment. He reads a lot of power because when you don't have that. But you do have a talented team. And you have a quarterback who's shown he can still play at a very high level, and we're in an era. That's right teddy in an era where older quarterbacks are clearly protected in ways. They've never been you look the level. Tom Brady is still playing at forty one. Drew Brees at forty then rothlisburger at thirty seven that that they realize, oh, wait a minute as beat up as he's been as much as he talked about retirement. He's still maybe has some years of football left in him. We don't have as backup. So he wields probably too much influence and he seems to at times publicly throw players under teammates under the bus. He's a problem because he's too good to get that next quarterback with the draft pick. He's your solution to the extent that you're good because he's a really good quarterback. And if you ain't got that, you ain't got anything. I'm with both you here because Big Ben has been a problem, and he can be a part of the solution. But this is what's happening here as you're talking about max. The quarterbacks in this league getting older and older and still being able to play past forty. What's happening is a generational gap. A generational gap between the quarterback and all of the younger skilled players and all of the younger players on defense that are ended up being a part of this team and the ability to relate. So they're almost these kids are coming in plan. I mean rothlisburger will have players coming in make sure that have had his poster on the wall or something like that that group as fans, and so how does that quarterback that aging quarterback you mentioned breeze Brady and rothlisburger? How was he able to relate to them and make them feel like still an equal? And as one of his teammates, this is where Ben Rothlisberger has failed has he failed. Also and other aspects where Stephen as talking about what he's calling out teammates where he's got no business when he should have when he's the one making bad plays. Also. Yes, I agree with that. But he needs to learn to start to relate to these younger generation of players because he will continue to get older, and that gap is. Real and you'll see players life Brees. How he still it seems like medicine Brady and breathes? They're old. Okay. How do they still have these close bonds with these young players that come into their teams and their teammates talking about them like they're best? How does that happen? There's something. Character wise that breeze and Brady has right now that Rothlisberger is lacking. I need your help with something here. Because here's what you lost. You talked about him relating to the other players, and I don't disagree with that teddy. The problem is it eight the younger players complaining about him and Tonio Brown is thirty years old. He's been big big Big Ben Rothlisberger his teammate for almost the past decade. And so this is I'm not saying that, you know, the he's thirty seven thirty thirty seven like Big Ben is, but he ain't twenty eight twenty one like did you Smith Schuster? The man is thirty the last six seasons. He's had a minimum of one hundred one receptors a minimum of twelve hundred and eighty seven. Yard. He's produced. Poor Big Ben he's been a primary target for Big, Ben. And yet that's where the problem seems to lie at this particular moment in time. So how do you explain that? And I'll put it up put it simply then because I agree with you there. It's a feeling that I've had with the quarterback that I played with and a lot of the saints and a lot of these older players on these teams that are mentioning they have the overwhelming thought in their mind that my quarterbacks got my back. No matter what that's what I think's not there in Pittsburgh. It seemed like it seems like if something happens the quarterback isn't there to either bail you out off the field the Bill you out on? That's what it is. I don't know if they feel the same way some of these saints and other players that this quarterback. He's got my
Kansas City Chiefs defeat Indianapolis Colts
"We will join the AFC division game between the patriots and the chargers. And then following that. We'll get the NFC. Division game between the Philadelphia Eagles who travel to New Orleans to face the New Orleans Saints. And then the racing report was saying the Sunday supplement and Willie from nine to midnight tomorrow night. So that's your Sunday rundown. Yeah. Let's talk a little NFL little colts with Ricky in Indiana. Ricky what's going on? Fantastic. Brother. What'd you think? Are you? Well, yeah, we're waiting on the Los Angeles Rams season to end because it looks like Zack Taylor the quarterbacks coach is going to become the next head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. So more power to the Rams and does act Taylor. Get a new coach in here. And let's get this program. Back on track. Because I don't believe it's one of the worst jobs that were opened in the National Football League. You've got a patient owner you've got out several outstanding players you just gotta keep adding to that Ed to the offensive line. And you know, Rick I can live with Devon white because I mean every mock draft see has LSU linebacker Devon white six one to forty. He's an absolute stud going to the Bengals at number eleven my feeling is. And I like the Bengals quarterback. Andy Dalton the red rifle. I think he can get you to the playoffs. I don't thinking he can win you a Super Bowl and a guy. Can I believe is Dwayne Haskins some day, and I like the Bengals to draft a quarterback into Wayne Haskins. He probably won't last two eleven. So you might have to go up trade up and get him. Okay. He's probably gonna go to the New York Jets or giants at six. Okay. And what what I'm afraid of is it the Pittsburgh Steelers knowing that Ben Rothlisberger is on the eighteenth tee of his career what one year max to me probably next year. Really should be it for Ben. They could definitely trade Antonio Brown because he is absolutely fallen out of favor with that franchise. Get a first round pick for him and use those picks to move up and take twain Haskins and. A whole bunch of Buckeye fans will become Steeler fans. No doubt. If that happens. So Ricky, and I know you're looking forward to baseball season, brother. So am I we're gonna talk who's going to be the reds center fielder? You got any predictions for me? Right now. Right. Well, I'm gonna put my chips to the middle of the table. And I'm gonna take Philip Ervin. Let's give him a chance and brother, we will talk soon. Appreciate the call from Valparaiso, Indiana, man. You are the man. Thanks so much Rik in Valparaiso Brandon's in Indianapolis, Brandon. What is going on paychecks for a little bit disappointed with I'm disappointed with the I like the Bengals stupid. I'm a colts fan. And what? Yeah. That was disappointing. They just couldn't generate anything and this this could be at for Adam venit, Terry. It is. I think it is what he's had a great career. You know? But I I don't know if it's the weather had an impact, you know. But I think Kansas City now takes I mean, I don't know if they can beat nor I could be wrong. You don't want everyone account New England out. But I thought we had a chance trickster, and I think a lot of people giving the colts a chance because. Defense is effective. But today, I think they just showed what they are about. You know, I think whoever has to go there. It's going to be hard for if it is New England or the chargers, but you never wanna Brady out. But I don't know. I think this year the chiefs get that stick it to them just kind of a morbid sense of if the New England wins tomorrow to have them get run out of the gym at Arrowhead. I would love it. Sorry. New England Patriots fans, but van I am tired of them in the in the AFC title game. I I am to see it as far as as far as the Bengals go. I I hope I hope they get the right coach. You know? I, you know, I mean, you know, the the Rams seasons. Don't go one. In hope. I wish the best for Marvin. I think he was a nice guy and all time for a change. But with the quarterback situation you were talking about Dwayne Haskins if the Bengals could draft him somehow cut me, they tried the read rightful or. Kind of like an AJ McCarron type deal if he would he would tutor Dwayne Haskins for a year and then Andy move on and make bigger dollars. Elsewhere. He would be trae trading. Yeah. He could he's like Alex Smith he could make a bunch of money elsewhere. But but the, but but groom Dwayne Haskins free year Dwayne takes over and twenty twenty. Andy Dalton moves on. I don't want to hear about what you're saying. Is you don't think doll the guy that can get you over the hump and away? Correct. Yeah. I think it probably win you a playoff game. I don't think you can get you to a Super Bowl and other that great guy. He's a good career. He's a good player. But I need an impact player taking snaps. As far as you say real quick. I know you won't get so much time as far as you see. Because were going on. 'cause I mean with not follow Butler, and because I'm from here. But. Did listen to you? See I don't think there's good as last year with oh, look who all you lost. But obviously football game tonight. But I did hear Macron's comment. He was not happy. But I think they're going to be okay. I guess against they're still NCWA. You probably know more about fourteen in three, and this is a very balanced deeper American athletic conference, and I'm loving the fact that Wichita states in there, and it's bringing back memories of the old Missouri valley when I was a kid, and that was the best conference in the land. And Brandon I gotta run man. Thanks. Yeah. Baby. I mean, I think so I really do. Yeah. They're starting to find themselves in just a huge boost to beat to beat Georgetown into comeback. Like they did. Thanks so much. I appreciate it. And I want to talk a little Cincinnati Reds when we return who is going to play center field for this club. And I wanna talk a little bit of the lineup one through eight man. Yeah. When we return

Raiders fans, twice abandoned, earn notorious honor
"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Raiders fans twice abandoned deserve much better by an Killian. Congratulations raiders fans. It's official. Now, you are the most screwed over fans in American sports. Oh, sure. Others have vied for the title in the past Baltimore had a pity party. For retiring. Cleveland felt abandoned shame with Houston old time New Yorker is still like to talk about when two of their baseball teams laughed Seattle. Still would like an NBA team. Thank you very much. But nobody has it as bad as Oakland Raiders fans screwed over not by one but two generations of the same family, though, that's relatively old news. Mark Davis announced he was going to Las Vegas in March twenty seventeen this week has served only to emphasize the pathetic situation faced by some of the greatest fans in sports history. It looks like Christmas Eve will be the final home game of the Oakland Raiders. The last hurrah for the Oakland fans who. Who have been treated like dirt abandoned twice loyalty? Taken for granted served a terrible product from most of the past two decades duped into believing. There could be a winning farewell tour in Oakland until Jon Gruden arrived and tore down the team. And now, it looks like there might not even be another season to say goodbye, you can blame the city of Oakland for filing the lawsuit against the team this week, and forcing the raiders hand or you can blame Davis and his minions for pulling a tentative agreement to play in Oakland in twenty nineteen off the table in the wake of the lawsuit or you can blame the NFL which has been using Oakland as a pawn for years. What you can't do is blame the fans they've taken it and taken it and taken it. And now they're losing their team. Again. Many of these fans already have lived through this on game days. The Coliseum is full of twice jilted fans. Many of whom have passed on their abandonment issues to a second generation they. Had their hearts ripped out in nineteen eighty two when the team moved to Los Angeles when the team came back in nineteen ninety-five many of those fans despite having sworn off the silver and black came back for their loyalty. They've received just four winning seasons four playoff wins. And a prolonged middle finger if the raiders had been truly interested in staying in the bay area and this goes back to the late Al Davis. They should've negotiated with the forty Niners to build one super stadium to house both teams. That's the only logical proven solution for two NFL teams in the same arket. But Al Davis was opposed and his son inherited that position, which is ridiculous. You think the giants and the jets like each other? No, but they both belong in a New York market just like the forty Niners and the raiders both belong in the bay area. Where will the raiders play next year? Who knows the university of Nevada in Reno is tossed around as a real possibility. That's where the raiders. Is reportedly planned to take their training camp. Once they are the Las Vegas raiders. The raiders could go to UNLV for a year. But that would dilute their glittery arrival in the Vegas market in twenty twenty. Could they go to San Diego for year? Bizarre. San Antonio one of their previous flirtation cities. Also, weird Levi's that would only serve to underscore. How stupid it is that the two teams didn't find a compromise stadium years ago? Cal now Stanford unlikely though the amount of remaining fans might be small enough next year to easily fit into fifty thousand seat Stanford Stadium. Of course, Oakland remains a possibility probably the most likely solution. And how pleasant that would be a year of nasty acrimonious partnership in a building full of dead mice overflowing sewage. And faulty x Ray machines Pittsburgh quarterback. Ben Rothlisberger said the ancient x Ray machines in Oakland didn't work well enough Sunday, which is why his return to the game. Was delayed after a rib injury wherever the raiders play. Their fan base is sure to shrink the enthusiasm was sucked out of this season before it even began because of the trade of Khalil Mack to Chicago the investment in season tickets is too much for so little in return on Sunday. Despite the influx of Pittsburgh fans. The parking lot wasn't quite as crowded for tailgating as it's been in the past. But it was still a great scene generations of fans who've made the drive for years, not only from all over the East Bay. But also, the central valley and farther to play music and grill and hang out and talk raiders. This is our real game one man who's been coming for years said as he poured bourbon for his friends. This is what I'll miss for the most screwed over fans in sports. They were having a pretty good time.
Steelers fall to Raiders as Chris Boswell falls on game-tying field-goal attempt
"Go to Oakland and lose yesterday. Unbelievable. Twenty four to twenty one Chris Boswell missed an extra point. But the story of this game for a while was Ben Rothlisberger getting hurts volume. He stayed out until they started to lose. And then he goes back in. Yeah. We'll ribbon DRAM in the fact that he was back on the sidelines. Sounds like he was cleared to come in. Mike Tomlin said later that. It was the game flow that the game at the time did not allow for him to return. You know, what our interpreted the bottom line? He went into the locker room to get X. Rayed checked out comes back. He's okay. Yeah. Not a great game for an Tonio Brown. Five for thirty five. Jersey was unbelievable though. Eight thirty three touchdowns thirty three points for juju. But the real story was how would this backfield shake out yesterday? Jalen Samuels, Stephen really, the answer was an overwhelming. Jalen Samuels is the guy Stephen really found the end zone, but he had five carries for four yards. One. Touchdown. Jalen Samuels, by the way, seven catches on seven targets of sixteen point two. If James Connor MRs next week and Adam Schefter reported it's possible play. But we'll find out later on. Then you have to figure. Jalen Sanyo's is an Rb to again this weekend's the
Chargers vs Steelers: Post-game analysis
"Incident. This is sports center right now, I'm on Tony Collins. There was no shortage of controversy in last night's game. Between the chargers and Steelers all eating to quarterback Philip rivers seventh career comeback in a game in which his team trail by sixteen or more points. Let's take you out to Pittsburgh. We'll take this up for the chargers trailing thirteen to nothing in the I keep your eye on right? Tackle Sam Tevi. Let's take a false start. No plaque and Philip rivers. Throws deep to Travis Benjamin for a forty six yard touchdown. He J watt Live Aid at the no com. So in the fourth charges were rally sixteen down three seconds left. Mike bats Leon's for the game. Winning thirty nine yard field goal attempt offsides on the Steelers. So now that's from thirty four yards out. And the Steelers are off-side once again so now bachelor from twenty nine yards. He gets a done Tomlin was asked about the chargers. First touchdown. Guys. I'm not getting into all of the officiating elements of what transpired at high. It was communicated. I'm just not is fruitless it doesn't change the outcome of the game. We're not gonna put it into the ref sans. We need to play better football. Like I said we didn't play we didn't play well enough on offense. Now, let's get you back. I take Steelers sixteen point lead at home at Philip rivers. Engineers a seventh career comeback win to handle a three point loss to improve to nine in three on the season. Pittsburgh oh in three versus AFC west opponents this season. Max was this one more about the chargers or the Steelers? This is about the chargers, and they beat a good team in Pittsburgh on the road. Pittsburgh in the history of their franchise. It never come had never lost the game. They were leading by that by sixteen points. I mean at home in those circumstances the first time ever one hundred seventy wins. No losses and the chargers did it. This is about the chargers. And I've said for the preseason I believe they're going to make the Super Bowl this year. It tested my faith a couple of weeks ago with the turnover at the end of the game Philip rivers at a certain point you go. Listen, maybe you're not just snake bit. Maybe this franchise does it to themselves. Maybe Philip rivers isn't destined to makes. Of course. I had those thoughts not stick with them. When posted gets back. Let's see what's what he was making plays Derwin James making plays. They have stars on the defense. They obviously had stars on the offense with or without Melvin Gordon and Philip rivers guys. He was going down. It piece by piece at times with guys tackling them in the face of pressure sticking his receivers. He was so big time. He lied manning had his time to Super Bowls. Ben Rothlisberger had his time. You know, even the off sides, of course, the charges miss a field goal. And they're going to lose the game. All that. So chargers, right. Like, that's the way they lose sometimes new organization like that a player like rivers just needs a break to get away. What's up break went their way? And they got the win on the road. These are the two they've looked like the most well balanced teams in the AFC so far this season. And the chargers went and took it to them and beat them on the road. This is the charger season story is about them. Yesterday. Score is not about them about. The Steelers, and it was about still because it still has had a twenty three to seven lead and Lewitt. It's that simple to me the charges. Anthony Lynn is doing a fabulous job. He deserves a lot of credit. I'm very impressed with what I saw him. Do. They remain compose. They stayed with their game plan despite being down sixteen that says a lot about the coach their belief in him, etc. Etc. Mave respect for that. They they did it. And when special teams they did it with their running game. They did it with Philip rivers. They deserve a lot of credit for that. I get that. But my bottom line is this you had a twenty three to seven lead on your home turf. A right in those situations. Careerwise franchise wise you like two hundred zero into and you lose a game to the Los Angeles. Chargers. I'm looking at Big Ben Rothlisberger missing a wide open receiver. Nobody within twenty yards FM. Missed a missed that. Touchdown throw. Threw an interception again as well. I'm pointing to that. I'm looking at it. From that perspective. I'm looking at the defense. I'm looking at the secondary. And I'm saying to myself once again, we find ourselves with the Steelers team that is good. But shows us as a season Wayne that is. Good as they are. There is something missing. That says to you. I should not believe in them when it counts whether it's against New England and Tom Brady who by the way, they'll play again, they'll play in a couple of weeks they've gotten the wall leads and the New England Patriots on their schedule. Two of the last four weeks this season. I'm damn near depressed thinking about it for crying out because once again, just win at six straight. But they lost a game. They needed to win. And they should have wanted to get the Denver Broncos. Now, they find themselves as a team that's just gonna win their division. Go to the postseason. And then we got a hope
Ben Roethlisberger's comments 'disturbed' Stephen A
"But Big Ben Rothlisberger decides to open this mouth. And what does he say? He questions offensive coordinator. Randy Fichtner, not calling juju Smith Houston's number enough on a final drive. He questioned James Washington. Dropping a pass he questioned Antonio Brown's row. Running said nothing about his own damn interception. Said nothing. And then when you know, basically addressed. Over the thoughts of publicly criticising teammates. This is why Big Ben Rothlisberger had to say. Well, I think I have earned the right to be able to do that with as long as I have been here. This is what he told Chris a damn ski or Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune review. He says an I'll just be just as a critical of myself in the media as well. Well, I hear that. I haven't heard of that. He goes on being around for a long time with a lot of different players. You have to know how to motivate different guys at different ways. I think that's part of being a leader being a captain just understanding players. Sometimes you just grabbed him off to the side. And sometimes you have to be honest with them. So how does big win Roxburgh thing? Those he openly critiques whether it's on his radio show to other media where we ask we will ris at Big Ben says, go asked them, I have no idea. I would hope that they would understand that as the quarterback in the captain that I have the right to do those things. I don't feel like I abused that situation. So I don't think it's an issue. But you would have to ask them, wait a minute. I thought you said part of being a leader is known agus. Sometimes you got some guys you've got to pull to the side. Some guys you can sit there malign publicly. Now you saying they'll ask them, you don't know. So you didn't know how
