I would say America is not an empire, or at least if it is, it's a very unusual one, because other empires control the territory they invade. We allow the Iraqis the Afghans to pick their own leaders and then we leave. So if it's an empire it's a very, very different kind of empire. But I just wanted to make that footnote. Okay, so talk about talk about the events in Ukraine, Mike. Yeah. So you had this Crimea referendum in 2014 that created response from the U.S. and NATO folks around this threat of what was initially called the de Rossi mop doctrine term essentially coined by a frequent NATO sort of thought leader Mark galeotti. The gerasimov doctrine was this idea that Russia was using information warfare in order to influence the hearts and minds of folks in central and Eastern Europe. And was sort of using Internet propaganda and what not to do that. And this Internet propaganda was propping up right wing populist parties in central and Eastern Europe that were, say, you know, Russia sent sympathizers. So

"All this and more. On code story. Luka Rossi is based in Italy, and he's lived there his whole life. He has studied computer science while being a part time musician. He left his PhD program to found a startup called wonder IO, and has been working in engineering leadership roles ever since. Who don't seem to condemn it. Oh, the irony of the January 6th select committee. Where right now Liz Cheney is leading her Mary band of witch hunters? So things like, are those morning yogurt drinks really any good for you? These things that say they're prebiotic and pro probiotic. Do they really work? Are they having the positive impact that you would like them to have? What kind of supplements should you be eating? What is the impact of fast food on your body? Is it really that bad for you? What should you be really avoiding, what should you be making a concerted effort to consume? And the topic of gut health is something that is have to be honest is someone who's been writing about health and beauty for over 20 years now. It's not a topic that was something that we really used to really was mainstream back in the day and now it is something that we are so wonderfully aware of and conscious of making good choices with. And I wanted to rerelease this episode because Megan's just sort of brilliant resource for somebody who can really hold your hand and guide you towards making excellent decisions. And that's not a bad thing by the way it's great because those things not only brought him more fans and more popularity and more enthusiasm to the but also brought in sponsors and funding that wanted to associate themselves with not just an exciting but an exciting sport where the competitors are having a lot of fun and they each have individual personalities and. That's a good thing for our brand. In a good thing for a writer to and so rossi was certainly influential. Not just to a new generation of riders. He's been influential to the entire grid of riders. That have come after him. And once again. I'm not trying to say that. Everybody's been copying valentino rossi for the last fifteen years but i think that rossi gave all of those other writers permission to be themselves to show the world who they are and what their personality is. And it's made the entire sport better but then valet went beyond even that you know we started with the winds and he translated that to the business side with the personality in the branding then he created an entire company. Not just to brand himself but other writers in terms of merchandising with the vr forty-six company but more importantly that led to the starting of the academy where valentino's started looking to help promote future italian racers. He turned his popularity and his influence and all of the money and success. That came along with that into opportunity for other young writers and that developed into a team starting emoto three and then motoo and now about to move to motor gp and that is the part that even. If you really don't like valentine rossy in there definitely quite a few people out there that don't but even if you hate valentine on you were so happy to hear today that he's gonna retire. You still have to appreciate what valentino has been able to do with. vr forty-six academy and the forty sixteen because in the end no matter how big is ego was and how manipulative may or may not have been throughout the years with yamaha and his teammates and no matter how bad is running right now. What he's done ultimately is he's reinvested his popularity and his influence into something that's lasting and beneficial for other young in the sport and the sports hall mean heck we're about to talk about a one hundred million euro sponsorship that is coming into motor gp specifically because that company wants to be attached to valentino rossi. Vr forty six. So that is why. Valentine rossy is so important and this announcement is such a big deal that being said you know. Was it the right thing. Is that the right thing for him to do. Yeah i think so. I mean he said there was the real opportunity to race for. Vr forty six and then he did consider it but in the end. A don't know that the results were going to be that much better than what we're seeing right now and so while it's disappointing that he's not going to be on track anymore because of what he's done for the sport and because there are still legions of fans that want to see their hero valentine rossi on track. I think we all know that he can't raise forever. Although it was feeling like maybe he was going to raise forever at one point or another But i can understand why. He made the decision that he did and very likely was the right decision now. Valentino was asked about his biggest moments and he said for him the three biggest milestones in his career winning the final five hundred cc. Championship in two thousand one. I can see how that would be a big deal. The first time in two thousand four and then the two thousand eight championship because everybody counted him out after not having one for two years in a row and really that applies two thousand four as well when he left honda. Not many people thought he was going to yamaha win a championship or even have a whole lot of success. So i can understand why for him. It turns out it was the former not the latter. It was going to happen at some point. I mean he wasn't gonna raise forever and with that point is now and after twenty six years of gp racing twenty two of those in the premier class. Valentino rossi is set to retire at the conclusion of his twenty twenty one campaign twenty six years for a minute and put it into a little bit of perspective in the general press conference. right after. Valentino made this announcement they brought in all the guys that they were gonna talk to heading into the weekend and bob quattro about ballantyne or retiring and he said hey. Valentino is such a legend in the sport and he's been around for so long that he had already won two championships. Before i was born and so i looked it up. Eight eight riders. That are starting sunday's mo- gp race weren't even born yet when rossi kicked off his career one twenty five and a further five more than that. We're just one year old. There were a lot of guys born in nineteen ninety-five racing right. Now that's over. Half the grid was either not born or was one year old when ballantyne rossi took the track in one twenty five c. c.'s in nineteen ninety six and. Listen i understand. I know and i will fully admit the valentino has not been very good the past couple of years and he's been absolutely terrible this season. And so if you've only been watching for like say the past three or four years you may genuinely be wondering what the big deal is. I mean yeah you see the fans you know. He's really popular. But you don't really understand why because all you've ever seen him do is score. A couple of podiums that people went bloggers over and now he's kind of also ran and you're thinking well okay so a good long time ago marquez. Really really good right now. Like what's the difference between those two riders. why are these fans still so dedicated to valentino. And let's talk about that because rossi's numbers were huge and we're going to go over a couple of here in a second. I would argue. Though that his impact on the sport has been even bigger. And that's why it's such a huge deal that he's not going to be around anymore and that's why all the fans have been so dedicated to him for so long abba before we get to that part. Let's start with a few of the numbers the obvious ones. Of course nine world championships. One twenty five and two hundred and fifty championships along with seven premier class. Titles the i of course in five hundred c and the rest emoji p and on top of those seven titles. He's also finished second in the championship six times. So that's thirteen overall seasons where he's been other the top rider or the second best writer in the sport. Now he's run four hundred and twenty three races in counting closing in on twenty six seasons across one twenty two fifties and then the premier class. Five hundred that transitioned inamoto. Gp and in those four hundred twenty three races rossio scored one hundred fifteen wins. Chew one hundred thirty five podiums and what that means. Is that over this incredibly long career. He's been victorious in twenty-seven percent of the races that he's run and he got on the podium fifty six percent of the time now. Those numbers may not sound very marquez. Like on the surface. I haven't run those numbers for mark. But i'm sure if i did they would be substantially better than those numbers for valentina rossi. But when you factor in the sample size over four hundred races and the fact that those include both the last four seasons and those two years it to kati none of which featured a victory for rossi then those numbers start to come into focus if you take out those years of questionable decisions going to do coty when maybe shouldn't have and sticking around for maybe four years longer than he should. Have you take those out then. The wind percentage jumps to thirty five and the podium percentage up to sixty eight percent of the time. Now in what some people might be thinking right. Now you're like hey you're starting to mess with the numbers. You're taking races out okay. So let's not do that anymore. And let's talk about valentine rossi in his prime. And his dominance at the height of his career was very marc marquez. Like in two thousand and two and two thousand three. He spent two full seasons to entire years without finishing off the podium every single race that he made it to the end he was on the podium and he had one d. nf across both of those seasons. Which of course were championship seasons. He wrecked one time in no other than that for both two thousand two hundred and three nothing but the podium and if you extend those two seasons back a little bit in the two thousand one and forward a race in the two thousand four the doctor overall when a stretch where in thirty seven races he had that one the nfl bruno and thirty six podiums and of those thirty six podiums. I've learned over the years. Besides world travel and have a perspective. Outside of america is my last name was rossi and you will not believe how many times people speller though say it wrong to the point where you get annoyed after awhile. I mean it's five letters..

"Welcome back. I've got josh on josh. How are you doing great. How're you doing. Awesome great to have you on the show. You've got an interesting backstory. A lot of things you've worked on in your career so far so share a little bit about some of the things that you do and you're working on yeah so i initially started as a artist when i was younger. Got into photography and just struggled trying to figure out like how to make money as a photographer. Basically you know. My dad was an entrepreneur. San with my mom and i grew up with the idea of like you know entrepreneurship. That's that's the only option. And so i never had a nine to five. Closest thing was flood. Clean up where i work. You know half the dan they'd call me at four in the morning to go clean up a bunch of poo and somebody's house flooded so that that was sort of the catalyst or or the the thing that got me to want to be an entrepreneur. Even more into push myself so anyway just went through ten different lessons. You know going into photography and started working with some bigger clients. Clients include dc comics paramount damon. John from shark tank and bunch of others. And and so from there. I i just i kept thinking like how do i. How do i like. I want to make the most amount of money but you know a business. I was like who is a photographer. Like i'm going to these clients. I'm paid for this clients but what's the next step. The next step is who provide something to work could expand my business and that was to photographers. I was getting these. Big jobs are like. Why don't i just teach photography had to do this and so i started decided to start an online course and i was like. I don't even know if i'm qualified to do this. Like but i just did it end in that sort of took off and then you started more business from there but basically in the middle of all that i've also been doing a lot of charity work and people might know me from you know this work. We did. The justice league kids series. Hit two hundred and forty million views worldwide and is where we took kids with cancer and turn them into superheroes and so that stopped..

"The walking stick. You gave away years ago and say you're now the prime minister of canada. What do we need to do to build our way forward so that we can continue to invite people like your parents to come in and build their dreams that we can have purpose education. Strong social net would rock rossy. Do with that want one whereas whereas were a beautiful country and a big physical country but small as an economy. We can't afford to be smaller by having these interprovincial barriers. So number one. I hope once and for all coming out of this we all get a grip and understand that we're in this together and so we need to behave in that way. Make ourselves as big as possible to skilling and rescaling another thing that i admire rb see. Is that that commitment to future launched to work integrated learning for all of our our young people but not just for a young people the jurisdiction that figures out skilling and re-skilling throughout life curiosity and learning throughout life is the one that's gonna win and then finally immigration. It's been key to our growth and it will be key going forward because think about it. People often say some people say well immigrants that come take our jobs and or they're they're coming for our benefits reality is. When my parents left southern italy there were millions of others who were also suffering from economic hardship. But they didn't come because they lacked the courage of that wave of immigrants and so in some respects. We've been fortunate to get the best of the best from everywhere in the world. And i won a country filled with people with a hunger and with dreams to build an amazing life for themselves and their kids. Because when you've got that kind of motor in your car you're gonna beat the hell out of anybody else in the world to building the kind of society that we all want and i'm confident that canada's best days are ahead of us talking to rocco rossi and i met him twenty years ago and i think i could hear his heart beating as he walked into that order in that day as he had passionate conviction and isaac was shining energy. And all of those things. I just find incredibly contagious. And the followed in my entire career and he has written wave after wave not from materialistic gain not not to have his name put on a wall here or there but just really to contribute rocklin normally end my podcast with three things i learned but one thing that stood out i would say above almost anything. I've heard over the last year doing videos and off casts. And that's when your mother in law said octa if at the center of life and asked that question today because if you wait to the end of your life it becomes toxic and everything you regret versus what a can be today.
