Ruth Wisse and Eric Discuss Liberals' Perceived Victimhood and Apathy

"Strikes me that the left in america has fallen in love with with with victimhood. And that they they don't like celebrating sometimes because it almost implies within we haven't suffered enough we want you to focus on are suffering as though something's gained by that you're saying that's not how people learn. It's not a good thing but you see that narrative surely in in american life in the latter part of the the twentieth century just kind of took over and people they wanna wallow they wanna be victims. They wanna remind you of how much they've suffered because it gives them some kind of perverse status. Well that may be true of some people. But you know what i saw. When i was teaching at harvard actually was something quite different. knowle's troubling but very different people didn't wanna fight and what surprised me most about harvard and all the twenty one years that i taught there i became involved in faculty meetings as i had never been before when i was at mcgill and And i saw that there was. They refused to let. Rotc the reserve officer training corps. That had always been at the basis of higher education. There was always training of the best and the brightest young people during precisely the age when you have to go into the arm right. That's the hr so with their. The there was for for forty years forty years right. The faculty of harvard kept rossi off the campus. They did everything. They kept changing the rationale for keeping it on campus so as not to allowed on campus. What is that about what they were actually saying to. These kids is forgive me but this is the way i understood it. America is not worth defending. Of course that's exactly what they're saying. It's worse than that. They were saying that. America is bad. And they're saying that. Any kind of militarism or i should say any kind of self-defence is militarism is a step away from the quagmire of vietnam and chest thumping Jingoism i mean. That's where the left has been for a long time. It breaks my heart but this is all through the culture. Obviously just places like harvard.

We are about to your came when he was telling us about spartanburg south carolina and the city's contributions to the sport of nascar. Which led us to ask about mario. Rossi said they were innovative. Especially with safety things. Do you happen to know how mario rossi tied into any of that. He was involved if he was not the the key. Person in developing a better safety harness rossi was known for responding to accidents. I guess as well as anybody in the sport henry told us that rossi actually started as a driver who had competed in a few nascar races in the fifties by the time henry got onto the scene. Rossi had remade himself. In one of the great mechanics and crew chiefs in the sport in rossi's mentor was the greatest of them. All a man delightfully named smokey eunuch for for most mechanics. Who come through.

"Whatsoever so yeah. Most today's drivers didn't know about mario rossi because slough skis enthusiasm. Showed us that. The story hadn't been lost timed. It was still whispered about in. Garages a spook. Stories shared among old timers and sport the strange tale of mario rossi for those who knew about it story still had a hold on their imaginations and now we were hooked so we went back to the rossi family with even more questions. We wanted to know everything. I would just like to start by asking you to introduce yourself. I'm tina ready. Grimes maurya rossi's daughter. I live in lexington south carolina. That's tina bills younger sister. She's a very important person to know. And all this though like with bill tina's relationship with her father was a bit strained. She told us that her children growing up never even knew about mario or his disappearance. They didn't need to know they never met You know he went. I was pregnant with my second child. He was missing. He never he never met any of my children. What made you wanna tell them about your your real father. I didn't my brothers voiced. Its yeah you know. Cousins talking chattings. That's how it happened while her older brother. Bill seems to wear a permanent poker face always deciding whether or not you're someone he can trust. Tina doesn't mind showing your cards in a story full of cryptic dead ends and secrecy. Tina's openness is more than refreshing. It's a lifeline. Tina gamely shared sensitive details with about her family about her struggles to connect with mario and decision not to tell her. Kids about their missing granddad. A decision she made to protect them from the agonizing unknown. She wrestled with for years in light of all that pain..

"And today we have something that we have never tried before we have a real treat as you know. Photography like dance like architecture like music is an international language. The image clearly translates to everybody but our way to talk about the images language. Based and today i have the real pleasure of talking with italian photographer. Rino rossi reno is a member of the frames community. Has style is immediately recognizable. however. I don't speak a word of italian. So we have the real benefit and the real honor of talking with abby prowse today. Abby is the founder of lingua more abbey. Good afternoon how are you. I'm doing great. Photography is really compelling and really alluring. Talk to me about the early days. I read in other interviews. That you i wanted to be a writer telling me about how you got from being very young until today shabelle can talk on the say. When i was a child. I had a very natural gift for writing. I was a very good writer. Funding coach. I didn't develop these skills enough. And so i went on study science but i never graduated so i started whacking with music. I worked in a vinyl stores and cd stores. So i ended up coming into contact with lots of different vinyls in cds which i think influence me in terms of my my now. I think cinema large part in my love for photography am. I was very very passionate about cinema and i think i carried that on throughout later into my life as well..

"Folks welcome back to Shanta be human. This is your host mark, Antony Rossi poet-playwright hosts of this show we're moving on now to episode one, hundred and forty six. How evil words reduce civil. Behavior. Now, I know it's an unusual title. And my even sound a bit political, possibly even social and I'm sure that it's going to come across that now and then not on purpose there are some things that do intersect and really can't help that. But quite frankly. There are certain words that we could use in in in polite society. So to speak don unacceptable and when they're used on a regular basis especially, if they've been used in a in a way that seriously damaging or to an incredibly degrading, it can also slip into the art too so. That's really. The purpose of this type of show regarding those type of words is how it does that because oftentimes our language especially when things become I, wouldn't say acceptable but at least. Passable Enough de pokes can actually feel some justification for this and I'm going to show you in my show. However, there is no justification for it matter who you are. There's can cross into writing can remember the show is not just about lary stuff. We also do things about the arts in general whenever we can and wherever we can make broad we will, in this case, a needs that because it'll be about. People in. You'll. You'll notice it in the arts music film and Television as well. So we're going to be talking about how the words. And how they can reduce civil society. Okay. Point this case civil behavior. Now. Understand I'm going have a number of categories. There's a couple of each and we'll go over it together to understand better anybody that knows me knows this show even knows any my writing. I don't play a political correct games on anything I just don't I just don't believe in that sort of nonsense. I'm going to speak my mind tell you where they think I'm not GonNa go y by somebody's philosophy somebody's ideology whatever it's always about what I think and when I when I feel when I actually practice, there's nothing on this show nothing I, tell you about the practice myself. Part of the show, which is this. This will be the first time ever I'm going to.

"And so we all have to assume I would have continued to do the same thing therefore not a failure and I do agree that the winds definitely lift Lorenzo's to Kati tenure above the level of failure for sure but I wouldn't be bragging if I were him about those two years either because when's are not he still couldn't manage to even match Valentino Rossi's point totals on the DESMA and let's be honest. The word isn't really the best descript or of the doctors time to Kati. So if he wasn't good and Lorenzo didn't score as many points. It's easy to kind of take a shot at his record there. You know I mean he can point the winds but then the other side can point the points and place in the standings so in the end I mean if Lorenzo really really wants to take his stand on the ears well then have at it but if I were him I kind of pretend that the whole thing never happened and just focus on my Yamaha record instead and when it comes to the whole you know your old. You don't understand racing now. It's way harder to win than it was back then. I mean that is the never ending debate but I generally call. Bs on that idea because the same thing that makes the bikes faster and more competitive in closer together at the end of races now also makes those bikes much easier to ride in a Lotta ways than what. Aga- was riding when he was in his prime so to simply say well. The gap between the haves and the have nots was so big back then and things are so much closer today. That that it lessens your results or lessens your perspective. Somehow that's to suggest that the bike makes all the difference that if the bikes were better back. Then that Aga- wouldn't have done as well or he wouldn't have one is much right. And if that's the case then you kind of undermine your own argument because somebody could turn right back around and say well if Aggo one all of those because his bike with so much better than everyone else's would then maybe your Yamaha championships. Were just as ill earned because your bike with so much better than everybody else's after all it couldn't be talent because you didn't get on those other bikes and win and you just said. The bikes are closer than ever. So then if Lawrence turns around and says no no no. The bikes are so much closer. Now that the call comes down to Ryder. Talent will again. Then you can say well if that's the case. Why didn't you win on the Honda didn't you? Jp chip on the ecology and really what you end up with is having the suggest that there's some magic point in time before which talent wasn't as necessary and after which it was supremely important and that would be an absolutely ridiculous thing to suggest so he in the end. I get why Lorenzo's UPSET BECAUSE MOTOGP. Riders have huge Egos all of them do and they don't want their failures pointed out. I wouldn't want to either mostly because that'll be a lot of failures to point out when it comes to me but I don't think that Agostini was doubting Lorenzo's talent. I don't think anybody doubts. Or Hail Lorenzo's talent. I think that Giacomo was just pointing out that both the do Cadi and the Honda got him too much inside of his own head and honestly how many times have we had that specific discussion on this show. It's not wrong. I mean really that was always Lorenzo's biggest problem. Whenever he was struggling is that he was inside of his own head. If things were not absolutely perfect one hundred percent to his liking that he could go out there and perform and who thinks that wasn't the case at Duke Odean? That wasn't the case at Honda. Of course it was but just because Aga- points that out that doesn't mean that that's Lorenzo's legacy that isn't his legacy so if I were him I would let it roll and I would just point to all the results and say that's my legacy. I'm going to let that speak for itself. Instead of going on some protracted social media battle back and forth the guy who is revered as a legend. I mean you guys are both in the same company both Moto. Gp Grades So at some point. Somebody has to be the bigger person here and say right. We're GONNA move on from this. Seems like Aggo was that guy because we did not get a response from Agostini there But again like I said I understand why why Lorenzo would be upset. Anybody would be upset in that position but you have to take it all with a grain of salt and say all right. Yeah sucked at Honda. And I wasn't all that great. I wasn't nearly as good as I expected to be. But it's not like I didn't have an awesome career and nobody would disagree with that. He did have an awesome career. I'm all right. Let's move on from that to some drama that started bubbling this week potentially between patrol necess- Rt. In Valentino Rossi. Although I will maintain here in a moment that there is a reason for it. Those kind of backed up by Mr Rossi himself with some of the comments that he made a couple of days ago so the on the surface it look like there was going to be maybe a little bit of power struggle starting at Petronas Yamaha and while I don't really think we're headed for any serious drama. In this one things definitely got off to an unusual and very unofficial start of between Valentino Rossi amp attorney society because Russell resolve the head of Petronas said a bunch of stuff in an interview a couple of days ago motor GP Dot Com among the highlights number one while he has talked with Yamaha about the logistics and the costs of bringing the forty-six onboard. The team has not talked directly to Valentine Rossi number two. He said he doesn't want to change team for one writer. No matter who that Ryder is and that no one person is above the team and the number three. He doesn't want the Peronist bike to be essentially a rocking chair on wheels. My words not his He expects results but if the results are there then the team will be open to continuing on beyond twenty twenty one now. Those are some pretty bold comments when it comes to Valentine Rossi a guy who has used to getting whatever he wants essentially running any team that he's been associated with and makes you wonder and I'm to answer this question by the way but it makes you wonder. Is this a sign that there's going to be some drama between them is they're going to be power struggle or maybe it was not having a whole lot of respect for us in saying you're an old man? Now you're over the hill your pastor prime and you're GONNA have to do it my way. I don't think it's any of that really I think what resulted was doing was he was trying to get ahead of the whole Valentine Rossi is running your team or Yamaha's running your team rumors because of that. I think that those comments were calculated. I think it was something they wanted to feed out to the media and get out to the world which is why the somewhat controversial sounding comments were given out on the very official and usually noncontroversial motor. Gp DOT COM as opposed to just saying that on social media or saying it to another news outlet that could steer things into something like we were just talking about with Lorenzo and Agostini which started with some news outlet interviews non affiliated with Motor GP and then turned into you know a social media battle. So I think that there was some method to the madness here and I think that Yamaha and even Valentino Rossi himself. Were aware that resolve was going to say something along those lines and that was backed up by Rossi's comments going into this weekend where. He said that he agreed with what Rosalyn was saying. And that he doesn't want to go to patrol us to sit back and relax that he wants to go there to perform. So I'm not suggesting a conspiracy here. I'm suggesting a targeted strategy. I think there was a little bit of a coordinated effort here for Rizzoli I to say hey. This is my team. I'm in control of it. Yamaha's not telling me what to do Rossi's not telling me what to do and them Rossi follows it up a couple of days later by saying Yup. I agree with him. I don't want to go anywhere and suck. They're a top level team and I want to perform like a top-level writer for them. So I think was really kind of a very Honda coordinated marketing effort to get the word out that. Hey don't start spreading these rumors. Don't try to create some internal strife by suggesting that one person or the other is running the team where there's a power struggle. We're all on the same page here now. The question is will it work? Will that derail the conspiracy rumors before they happen? No not at all I mean the Anti Rossi contingent is still going to point to the whole thing and say that. Yamaha's strong arming their satellite team. And taking the broken down old guy and then if it starts off and doesn't go very well then those same people are GonNa say all Rossi forces way onto the team and they didn't really want him and so now he's destroying everything by being there and not you know winning races winning championships Those people are still going to say those things. No matter how organized their effort is in the media to head that off at the pass on but I generally believe though what result is saying that he is going to expect results and he should and I don't think that's going to be a source of friction with Valet. Because I don't think that he wants to go there and embarrassed himself. Who would now the team player bit? We'll see how that goes because after all Rossi has spent the last two decades as a number one factory rider that he says do this. I want that and those things happen and this is going to be a massively different situation because even though the factories backing this team this bike Rossi. It is still a satellite team. An satellite team has different priorities than a factory team. So it may not be that Rossi won't want to be a team player. I'm sure he will want to be a team player. It's just that his experience of what being a team player means is likely a lot different than all than maybe a handful of riders ever in the Paddock. So that ultimately is going to be the challenge. I think in their partnership because I think Petronas is gonNA be able to offer up the bike that Rossi wants him. Rossi is going to be. The ride is hard as Petronas once. It's just you know the balance of power I think could potentially be the struggle there because of what Rossi's been used to for all of his motor career and so it's good that rally is making a point of saying this is where everybody stands going in but I wouldn't take any of Roslyn comments..

"Unacceptable unacceptable Rossi he checked the numbers on the most amazing video we posted in quite some time it's it's footage that was taken at a Russian airport when if you remember last year they had a chance to get struck by lightning Meeder jet and yeah com on fire which by the way is really underselling what it is and had the land thankfully everyone crew and passengers got off okay the video from the airport pointing out on the runway it appears they're saying imagine it's there's more fire than plain and then and I'm gonna use I think the description about Rossi's last time and then right the beginning of the video which is act on on our website at Katie CD on the radio dot com Casey the two letters on the radio dot com and then all of a sudden it's video opens you see this chat which is engulfed in flames Tokyo drift into the screen side ways and then just perfectly lines up with this camera it's amazing video and then moments later here comes the slides down the down the side and the passenger's starts slide one by one obviously this is pre coalbed because if not they were way too close right wait we can agree way to close how would it work now yeah wipe off the slide between per people gonna die anyway so so I come popping down and then the most and by the way they're carrying their care they have their carry ons in their hands in many cases that's a big no no did you not pay attention to the whole video you got the slide open and then because this is a society people are filled in and I mean most people are running as far away as possible because if you see if when you see this jet you're going to think it's part of a movie it's showing flight it's more in flames that I've ever seen a jet that wasn't part of like Die Hard was it too at the airport was a Die Hard two yeah and because our brains are trained it when you look at that you assume that if you don't get a half mile away when it explodes the percussion will toss you in the air like a porn movie and yet I handful of these jackasses get to the bottom of the slide proceed to get their phone out there so close you can feel the for the heat they have to be at our film in this thing and somehow everyone gets out of there everyone should everyone is relatively is like nine people no major injuries but nine people who were injured and everyone survives and it's the most amazing you walk away from that I've ever seen so if you want to never fly again and save all that money for what he can do it again or you can I guess around the US right now I feel free go watch that video you're welcome we just save you mucho Bucks and I blew it I don't mind flying I have I've flown I flew an egg I flew with a guy who flew the Alaskan highway in here in here a small private plane I'm that was amazing and it was there are some pretty yes really interesting weather when you have a cross mountain ranges in a in a small plane because you can't you know you're this there's not in a small plane you're not you can't call very high because altitude right altitudes a factor so your cat he kind of weaving in through some stuff all the other thing was when I was when I'm down in Costa Rica there is you can take these little planes to some of these different places around there because most of the country is literally like a no rain forest right they got some amazing areas and it's relatively untouched like this huge gorge canyon to go through that again okay knows right all around and they have a mountain range in the southern part of part of the country not a bit down racial country but I kind of unique we're goes from four S. to almost as barren rocky thing and they were shown in this flight on a loop right at on this on the website I was looking at and is this guy's flying in it is not much she could you take this plane to go up there this guy's flying in and then all of a sudden you're going where she got a land that's weird and then in his car to Nisha fashion as possible it takes a little plane and just kind of plop sit on this the one level area and and you can tell that what's going to have to happen is that thing's going to have to be physically turned around to get the plane back out they're gonna have to physically turn the plane around because there's no other way and I'm like nope I'm good thanks yes in the special history channel the world's most dangerous runways yeah that looks like it's about to that may said they had the one that goes over the beach well that once the show we talked about this that when you see over the beach that's insane March fourteenth turns a five pointed out that but I've never been to that beach yeah the the number one on the list I think it was number one where it was somewhere up in the Himalayas well you've got to make this crazy turn it on the runway at the at the end of the runway is a side of a mountain oh god you fly into the side of a mountain perfect the you hope you don't right right you get it you know you know I there was one I made were you fly into the mountain right the whole things built in the mountain and then that's a doomsday bunker because Samuel Jackson Jack your phones up or you're gonna kill it I had to fly in for the coming today the runway it's a all right so I have a right flies right into the hole there in Jackson Hole so they're used to it and they they sense repaired it or they built a new one it used to be back in as late as the nineties I think new Tory Asli there was a problem in Jackson at the airport there with the because runaway like planes to go off the end of the runway on the regular not like fall off of a cliff or landing a hole because there's not a whole but you know they were constantly ended up in that sand berm on the other side especially the more rich people you got there with their different chats so they they upgraded that but that was like a thing that happened regularly the way to run out the end of the runway the difference is that was a runaway this was a hillside this guy was landing his plane on although you know if you look at some you ever see some of the narco airports that from back in the day yeah yeah those look safe but when you take it off with a bunch of coke I guess you really don't care so we're gonna do all right let me grab a call Joe what's up John what what what work yeah we'll set you up what should what should what should what should what will go down as but you're not he has already been what are you saying the same flight video your first I thought it was yeah at work what but then you see the spot so you here's the deal I don't know I'm just I'm reading the article here where it says around a total of thirty seven passengers and crew escaped unscathed including the ten who were injured you know what maybe it's just poor wording and based on the fact that they because I guess it's it's open for a possibility that somebody died on that let me ask you a question because you were a pilot why don't you ever stick a landing like that and to they say the plane caught on fire from lightning I was always told that at the end of the day if lightning hits a commercial airliner you're probably not gonna die so which is what that's not well what is the case because I struck by lightning I was talking to you yeah also your generator your certain regions like zero degrees centigrade and generates about actually all the static charge thank goodness right and the general level of their coach all services right actually we're supposed to George so you don't you can't charge somebody sure yeah well it's very very scary but the second one I was just don't talk about yeah anyway yeah yeah go ahead I just no we're in a loop of the all the most you well it's only thirty one it was just fine because the problem is but yeah well this last year you're right well I did yeah and either way it's the videos bonkers at last question you ever had anyone or anything on the wing of the plane well right like a creature to life only one guy can see it right okay but I just didn't hear that William Shatner can see it but nobody else can well chapter six yeah probably all right Hey John I appreciate to talk them ever go on okay yep now I want a plane that I can just fly around and strike been smoke people with lightning I don't see the same thing as a document about that before it actually was a time that plane went back in time today yeah first they went back in time and were like whoa it's like thirty years ago tried to go back in the future and actually went even further back in time so it brontosaurus apprentice or I yeah on a planes do you look it up Google it oh no I saw the one documentary where the plane where everyone did everyone on the plane fell asleep right and then everyone disappeared and then there were these little weird pac man looking creatures share that were eaten reality wow yeah all bad news for Balti to you know just like live ad news for balcony learned so much on the show just like limbo and speaking of there's a rather interesting report having to do with the president Rush Limbaugh and radio anonymously sourced of course I'll explain next hang on right now there is a lot to consider when selling a home home equity is high housing inventory is down and interest rates are at an all time low but.
