The Dismantled Ferry Kalakala Still Has Stories to Tell

"I'm continuing my investigation into the world. So the paranormal metaphysical working with the idea. That goes whether we see them or psychic. Senses them are made up of energy and we'll be monitoring or following along the oldest active paranormal investigation team and the Washington State Ghosts Society to see what they have to say about an investigation into a ghostly or angry spirit will the story starts out with the fairy. It was the fastest ferry. Impute sound making eight round trips routine. Bremerton and Seattle every day at a brisk eighteen knots. It had room for a hundred and ten autos on her car. The remaining decks had room for two thousand passengers there were shower facilities for shipyard workers returning home a lunch counter. Three Observation Rooms Sun deck and Ladies Lounge. It became a hot nightspot lunch counter catered parties. The observation decks became ballroom. Sadly Nineteen Forty Adelaide. Bebr committed suicide in the ladies Lounes. She lost her father to suicide followed by the death of her brother. She was twenty nine years old and still unmarried in the Ladies Lounge. She committed suicide by shooting herself. Well that was one thousand nine hundred forty one thousand nine hundred sixty seven. The Kala Kala retired from service. A move to the Washington State Ferries Repair Facility in Eagle Harbor. A year later she was sold to a seafood processing company and towed to Alaska to work as a crab Cannery Kala was beached in Kodiak in nineteen seventy and use their to process shrimp. Finally she was moored and would spent her final years listing until one thousand nine hundred seventy five waiting to be scrapped but in two thousand and two the oldest active paranormal investigation team and the Washington State Ghost society toured the Kala Kala with the owner. Some of the sensitives in the grew felt drawn to the Ladies Lounge and a female psyche detected the spirit of a woman who did not like men other. Investigators brought devices that measured electromagnetic energy which detected energy readings in the Ladies Lounge. The investigators set up motion detection sensors and energy detectors connected to a computer that recorded all of the readings at the same time they left the lounge and investigated other locations on the ferry where they got more energy readings that coincided with the presence of that sad female spirit spoke of the beginning of this podcast when the psychic detected the spirit the meters around her went off as technicians move forward. The energy went down. The psychic moved following the spirit. The energy readings rose the psychic suggested that the skirt moved away because technicians were men and she did not them nearby when they returned to the Ladies Lounge. They had a surprising result. The motion detectors work by emitting level. Noises bounced off the walls if someone stepped in front of the Mirror the signal bounce back too soon telling the computer. Something has stepped inside the room. The motion detectors spiked several times while the investigators were away. Oddly the computer indicated one of the sounds took too long to bounce back from the wall. The only way this could have happened was if the walls of the caller caller had moved further away from the sensor. Ross Allison one of the ghost hunters speculated that the sound emitted by the sensor may have travelled out to the wall and back but pass through something that was not solid some form of energy. Unfortunately the team was not able to return for more investigations today. The Kala Kala is just a memory but one wonders if perhaps the ghost of Adelaide bebr might not have stepped off the old ferry that graving dock on the Blair waterway just before she was scrapped.

So let's welcome back to the show. Welcome back. Then. All right. So let's get to. Lead actor lead actor in a comedy series. So let's see you've got. Donald Glover Bill. Hater, Anthony Anderson. William H Macy, Larry, David and Ted Danson. Probably when it comes to preference. I would. Basically dog lover Bill hater or Ted Danson? Any one of those people who wins, I will be smiley and happy. I think it would be extraordinarily funny. If Donald Glover would win because he submitted the teddy Perkins episode. So it's an episode in which he in his actual main character on the show has about thirty seconds to lines of screen time. So. But on the other hand, his performance as teddy Perkins is wonderful. Weird. I think it to me. The best performance. Sort of pure sense is Bill heater. They chose the penultimate episode of of yet. I use in theory. Dramatic episodes allure. Absolutely Bill Hader. So it's it's mostly kind of a dancing is awesome. And why would I be in good places? Awesome. So it would be great. If either will either one of them got any recognition that really would it comes down to Donald Glover and Bill Hader, and I guess it's going to be Donald Glover. And that would be just fine. Yeah. Okay. I agree with you though. I think Bill Hader out of these performances is the one that deserves it the most, you know, he's he's great on the show. He co created directed it. And it's just a it's a great. It's a great. And he's three in that episode that they submitted was incredible. He was unbelievable on that episode. So. Yeah. I and if he and if he wins, it would be easy to understand. And it would be easy to understand why they would want to recognize him what they want to recognize series in that way. So I would certainly have zero issues with Bill Hader winning and zero issues with Donald Glover winning would both be reflective of really really good comedy chose. And that means that it's gonna be Larry David for some reason. Like, it'd be Larry David Dooley. I am not worried about that is going to be Larry. Lead actress in a comedy series, Pamela Adlon, Rachel Brosnahan, Tracy Ellis Ross, Allison Janney lily Tomlin. And he's array. And by the way, can I just say this before we before you take a guess at this. I just recently got into insecure. I know I'm way behind that show is great. It is is a really really good show. It's really good. I just binged it, you know, and I just got into it. And it's it's very very good. I mean that show I should have been watching that show from the beginning. You probably should have been. But still you're you're not that far behind renewed for another season beyond this one. So I feel like it's sort of gaining more momentum as it goes along. More people are catching on. It's a terrific show terrific show. Anyway. So who do you think? I think it's going to be Rachel Brosnahan. And I think it should be Rachel Brosnahan. And I, you know, I think kimberlite lunch deserve to win multiple Emmys for better things, I just think it comes down to this particular category. And what this particular category is asking for. I think probably which LeBron's Mahan is is the right person to win that everyone should be very happy to celebrate a year out. Julia. In the category. This will be a one year respite and then Julia Louis Dreyfus could win next year. We'll all be very very happy for her. But I think Rachel Brosnahan probably wins this one. Okay. All right. Let's go to supporting categories supporting actor in a drama series. We've got Nikolai coaster. Waldo. We've got Peter Dink Lynch Joseph fines, David harbour, Mandy patinkin and Matt. Smith. David harbour. It's a mess of a category. This this category to meet does not in any way reflect the best supporting performances on television that just it. It's a total mess. I I don't even know how you end up with this category. God. And you know, nothing nothing makes me hurt more than Mandy patinkin doesn't beat doesn't deserve recognition. But man, he shouldn't be there band. Josephides shouldn't be there. I think it's going to probably come down to David harbour people still remember how much they like David Harper and how much they probably like the second season of stranger things. But it's been so long. Been so long. I guess also since game of thrones. Like all of these performances to me seem steel and really really far in the past except for Joseph fine shoot seems like you shouldn't be there. Right. Like, I don't even I don't even I can't even begin to know. I think what I stated my preference in in the Hollywood reporter. I think I said match Smith because his episode of this season of the crown Prince Philip is so unappealing and vaguely repulsive in does episode as used for much of the season. And I like how proudly unlikable Matt Smith makes this guy and as opposed to David harbour who everybody loves and opposed to as opposed to everybody loved loving at this point Tyrian, Lancaster. We all love Jamie, Lancaster, as if we've forgotten all the things he did back in nearly useless the show. Yeah. I this is such a mess of a category. So it's. Just going to be Peter Dink, which again, I feel like he's of the defaults in this category. What about supporting actress in a in a in a drama? You think that's going go to Millie Bobby Brown? I think husky I do I think I mean, I know you want her to win. But you you think she's going to win. This is one of those for kind of want to believe that the choice that makes the most sense if you've actually been watching all of them will be manifest to the voters as well. I think people will look at the huskies performance at how would really kind of dominated the season the chat bitch as great as opposed with moss continues to be. Yeah. That would be my preference. Once she didn't win for the first season. It becomes a more complicated thing. Like if she had just one last year as well. Then you go. Okay. Sure. They love Millie, Bobby Brown. But I don't think she was ever in the second season of stranger things. So, you know, why would she suddenly come up and win here? Alexa, flip L. And in doubt. Both won last year. Say suddenly they're in the same category. Who knows? The spoiler here who interests me is Vanessa Kirby for the crown and again as with all the crowd actors this is her last chance to win 'cause she's going to become held a bottom Carter next season. So she's out now, and she was great and she has such a good episode in barrel, which I believe one a couple of the creative arts Emmys last weekend because it's just a great standalone episode, and and she's fantastic. And she was also we we really good in the mission impossible movie. This summer. And I think some people will will look and go, okay. This woman is a star. And she was always second or third build on this show, but she's a star. So I think it's going to be either Vanessa Kirby or Steve. And I I'm going with the monster, husky. Okay. All right supporting actor in a comedy series. I mean, I think you know, they're they're a lot of good choices here. I think you know, actually except for Alec Baldwin. I think every single person here deserves to be. Deserves the credit. I think is everybody but Alec Baldwin. I am right there with you every single person was category any of the one other than Alec Baldwin who does not need another EMMY both in general, and certainly not for this performance away. But you Alec Baldwin. Yeah. I, you know, look at Henry Winkler one. That would be awesome. Everyone would be over the moon. For Henry Winkler. Louis Everson, would always probably be my preference. If I'm just doing straight up preference. Yeah. But then I would really and I love everybody like I said except for Alec Baldwin. I love everybody in this category. And I I I would be really in as much as I love everybody in the category. I don't know for some reason I would love to see Keenan Thompson went just just because these Keenan Thompson. You know what I mean? I think it would be it would be such an appropriate. Peace recognition for a guy who has been so long unrecognized entirely. Like, no one would ever say Tony shillue has been unrecognized has been amply recognized. Wanna tony? He just want to tell me what you know. So but most of the people in this category have received at different points, sufficient recognition over the years. Keenan Thompson has always been that under the radar glue die on SNL. It would be very nice if he were to win. Okay. All right. Supporting actress in a comedy series. I think you are definitely going with Alex Burstein, correct? I believe that would be I believe that would be my preference and probably my pick. But this is another one where and I'm sure we agree. You know term Leslie Jones on down there very worthy people in this category. Yeah. We wouldn't agree on the Leslie Jones or the or the eighty Brian's, but everybody else, I think. Yeah. I think they're they're good people in this category. I think keep McKinnon with peaches much too obvious Kate McKinnon give someone else some love. Gilpin is fantastic on glow. If she were to win that would be that would be great. You beats. I still don't understand who exactly gets to be supporting and who gets to be gassed, I guess probably Dan was in like one episode too many in order to be guest star. But in Herat episode, there was a standard episode. She was amazing. I think it's going to be Ouch Boris daemon. I I think she probably deserves to win. And she already won a family guy. Voice acting EMMY last weekend. So she's audible she's on a roll. All right. Well, what about the best actor in a limited series? You think Darren criss is gonna win. I think that he seems like the person who people are. You know, have been have been looking at is the guy who held together that miniseries. And I think that's probably true. He has a a tough part. And you know, it just a character who. Would be very easy to hate what with him being a serial killer and all, but he really finds unemotional heart to Andrew Cunanan, which I don't think anyone could have expected. I I think that it Cumberbatch is is amazingly Melrose. He's so good in that so good. And by the way, I think John legend already got his he got he got he does not need that. Right. So definitely no on on John legend, definitely Jesse Plemmons as an actor and a limited series or movie Jeff Daniels hysteric looming tower. I think to me my vote would come down to Chris or Cumberbatch. And I suspect to be all right? Let's take a break here. And then we'll love finish up the nominations here. Dan, hang on sounds good. All right. Dan Fienberg is with us. We are going to take a break, and we'll come back and talk more about the EMMY nominations and some other TV stuff as well. Dan, Fienberg joins us every couple of weeks here on the show to talk TV's TV critic for the Hollywood reporter, and you can follow him on Facebook and Twitter at the fine print f. I e n more.
