"Did. I really worked for me. That's why i was surprised by myself. That i really worked for me but i was like. Oh this is unexpected and fun. I think it was the thing where the like the humor and the jokes itself matched like the level of investment. That you needed to make in the motte line. It was sort of like a superficial funny satirical thing that they landed for me. The best parts were sandro. Who is incredible. And out of all so funny neurotic and also lands like the just kind of empathy of this character and everything. She's going through at work and at home just she has like a real emotional presence. That i think is is pretty astonishing. I really liked all the family stuff even though it was like everything is her dad data so wonderful and i really liked everything with her daughter. Yeah and which is why. I ended up liking the duplex character. Even though i saw his plotline and the cancel culture stuff was like the least developed of all of the various controversies and the students in particular are just you know twitter caricatures which you couldn't pay me to go back to college but i thought that was an injustice or unfair so i didn't love that part of it but his relationship with the kid was very cute as a family. Comedy like a workplace comedy. Everything was taylor was fantastic. She was wonderful. So i liked it. I also liked. It was three hours which it is. It's six thirty minutes episodes. We were talking about it on the big picture. And this is something that just would have been a movie like even ten years ago and like basically is a movie with just like a few extra some extra padding and i don't know it's fine that it's a mini series instead of a movie at this point it's like the way the world is but i liked it. I liked it. It wasn't like life changing or whatever. But i enjoyed it. Yeah it was. It was good. Sandra was like she's really impressive. I mean her career. Choices are so good. She recently was talking about why she wouldn't go back to grey's anatomy and just talking about alive. It has to do with like how she is emotionally moved on from the character because of like the struggle of sudden fame that came with that show and she's just like she's just like i don't know she's a true role model. She petsmart roles. She played she clearly imbues everyone. She play every role she plays with so much intelligence and pay us and determination. She must be very determined person because they feel like all of her roles are so defined by that and she's she's a joy a joy to watch. I also captured winter in a really good way in a way that we haven't really seen on tv. And while actually kind of remind me of home alone or like uncle buck kind of public. A real john hughes chicago winter feeling to me. Which maybe why i thought it. It worked but i don't know it be interesting to see this sort of zeitgeist so so unlike most of the tv shows right now and also like it sounded like an unlikely hit. It surprising it's on netflix. Hbo feels very hbo. Doesn't it yes it does. It feels a little bit shorter and lighter than hbo likes to go at this. They i think they just want a little bit more for their buck. At this point in terms of like ours run and also things to argue about. And this is kind of like i like this. This didn't work as much for me. I had a nice time. And i'm moving on which i suppose is netflix model. For an accent they try to get you for three hours and they try to get you for another three hours of. They tried to get you for another three hours but it is funny that there's there at least three scenes. Maybe more about chaucer and millions of people are watching it. You're right it's not like a natural obvious net flex it. Yeah also a lot of talk about melville and hawthorn which i really enjoyed. Because i'm pierre is melville's novel about hawthorne and i loved that book and college. Which is something really annoying. I'm sorry upset it but anyway it. It was good. Check out the chair. I'm you probably have if you're listening to this podcast. But that's all i watched and then by the way working girl is on stars. Our favorite treatments resto. I relapsed working girl again and really enjoyed it just. It's one of my favorite movies. It's mike my ma. It's like my mom's top serie. She loves that movie to always on. Dvr at all time so that can be watched in the middle of the night. It's a great movie once again. Your mother and i are yes seriously seriously. All right well. We didn't know if we would be able to do a full podcast here on august thirty first and here we are forty five minutes later. Crushing did it. We created it thanking affleck. Thanks thanks to our ephron. Thanks to las vegas and thanks the century city mall. it's a great place to spend some time in muslim. Erica survive for new smith episode. We'll be back next week..

"Of like pop out into his path they were There was a a vestige of that in in this Commercial not nearly as good. Now as i found this commercial embarrassing for like a number freeze however is wanna know. Ben affleck looked so hot. Like just very handsome. Yes and when he allows himself to do his ben affleck charming thing for about five seconds. Here by it comes alive. I would love to investigate. Why athletic is directing commercials for the win sportsbook. I mean his history. Shall we say with. Gambling is well documented. An interest sometimes a source of of trouble basically. I think he's pretty open about having been kicked out of a few different casinos because he like as they accused him of counting. Cards are being too. Good isn't s so an affinity with gambling. But why is he. Why is he directing this commercial. That's a question like what what are his other directing credits that are coming up. I mean we all know about argo. Obviously but like. I don't know i guess because it's like easy money during covert and it's like the fall the affinity as you just mentioned also. I will say having to vegas many more times than i ever wanted to. The win is absolutely the best place to stay. There's there's no doubt about it So this means like you're staying at the win for free for x. Number of years. That seems like a no pun. Intended a win to me. I don't i don't know why he's doing it for the money. I guess because he lets gambling and he's like probably met someone who likes talked him into it. Yeah i was gonna say so. You think it's for the money rather than for relationships like you know. Because he's a friend was so and so because he wants. I assume that ben affleck has access to whatever casino except for the ones. he's been thrown out of politically. I doubt he's aligned. With steve blend ratio. I don't know if it's like. And i do think he's actually pre genuine about his politics. So i don't know if it's like favor for steve wynn but certainly not not a favor So.
Jim Clyburn Has Some Explaining to Do
"Clyburn probably has some explaining to do. I'm quoting here from the washington post back in march of twenty or april first twenty twenty. Jim clyburn changed. Everything for joe biden's campaign in late february before the coming pandemic had begun to sweep the nation back in the democrat. Primary field was crowded and it looked like former vice president. Joe biden's campaign was hanging by a thread. Congressman james clyburn stood behind a lectern and began talking about fear. I'm fearful for the future of this country. The south carolina lawmaker said three days before south carolina's primary while urging votes for biden. I'm fearful for my daughters and their children and their children and their children's future weeks later clyburn was less anxious reports. The washington post his emotional endorsement of biden as the democrats proper antidote. For the era of president trump had earned clyburn the title kingmaker another notch in a long career that has made him the highest ranking african american legislator on capitol hill. Yeah he's he's got another notch. Alright he's also got some explaining to do anybody who voted for joe biden. This is the result of your catastrophic decision back in november. I hope you're happy. We not to worry about mean tweets. No more feuds with rosie o'donnell so i hope you're happy as we are now a country that has committed the unthinkable we are we. This country has demonstrated its ability to surrender to
Steve Hilton Torches Biden Over 'Disastrous Misadventure' With Afghanistan
"Amazing to hear the reactions from the media. I mean jake tapper grilling antony blinken the secretary of state. Jim acosta calling this an epic fail. How about steve hilton last night. On fox news channel characterizing joe biden the president of the united states as i think the only way he can be characterized so with the twentieth anniversary of nine eleven. Just days away biden throws away. Everything that's been spent these last two decades trillions of dollars wasted thousands of american lives lost even more lives wrecked as the mothers and fathers and wives and husbands and sons and daughters and brothers and sisters and friends and neighbors of all our fallen heroes look on in disbelief and rage as this bumbling idiot in the white house this barely lucid puppet of the establishment week. Incompetent useless apology for our president erases practically overnight. Whatever meager justification there ever was for this disastrous misadventure with the head of the joint chiefs general. Mark milley this morning telling senators on a phone. Call that thanks to what is happening in afghanistan right now. Thanks to what biden has down these last few weeks. We ain't going to be more risk here in america. I'm glad that millions less worried about white rage for a change and worried about the security of the american people. What time to have wide open. Borders are no more mean tweets. Though we don't have to worry about trump feuding with rosie o'donnell. You you solve that america but look at where we are right now. It's catastrophic. Now's the time that the republicans need to be the grownups. Now's the time we pull on our big boy pants and we say we got to be the grownups in the room. This is amateur hour. They don't know what they're doing at team by. This white house is a disaster and frankly it's shocking that it has collapsed the way it has
Sex and the City Is Coming Back
"Sex and the city is coming back. You guys parker cynthia. Nixon and kristin davis confirmed it with this teaser. They're bringing the show back to life on. Hbo maxima. here's a twist for one thing. The show has a new name. It's called and just like that. The other big changes. That kim cottrell will not be back. As samantha. super surprise about that part of it. But you guys here for this look. I think everybody has been waiting for this to happen for a very long time. Where that you like. The series are not whether you like the movies are not you know a character. You still know which character that you are. This show holds a place. And everybody's heart. I don't care who you are man ads. but also what if your character doesn't come back. Like i'm a combination of carrying samantha. So half of me is no longer in this series. And i think you know what i mean like me. That really upsets me. I i found out about this late yesterday was like what's going on. I didn't fully understand what was going on. I'm here for it. But the fact that they're trying to use a different title and try to differentiate from sex in the city as much as possible. I just feel like is the juice worth the squeeze like you have such an iconic franchise you did the show for however many seasons. You have two movies the second movie we let pass because whatever we're super fans and we didn't care as much as we should now to revamp it in like a smaller scale with only three of the women when it's really about the four of them and then also to know that whatever feud has gone on behind the scenes is so bad that somebody will not return sort of just jolts. I don't know the the magic of it all a little bit. Like do people want no samantha. In this show one time samantha. But i i. I love the other girls enough that i told him away without her own. No the problem is the show is called. Sex city remarried broadband. We know nobody's having sex in that city. Okay so give me somebody. I need you to cast somebody. Who's going to be that young sexy siren that's going to actually explore the city as a single woman and have these women go ahead and kind of guide her through now over the years i will say sex in the city has gotten a little bit of pushback because of their lack of diversity this is. Hbo's chance and sexy cities chance to show that they can cast somebody in that role at all. I want is a quarterly simmons or isa raid in that role. We had you know. I love the. I also think it's one of those things. Where if you're not gonna bring samantha back and i know i read a little bit about the show this morning. And it says it's about the women navigating friendships in their fifties. Then i think that you need to also include losing friends. People throughout their life people who have been friends for twenty years. If you're no longer going to have samantha around. I don't wanna hear that samantha's in la or central pay or dating. Some man tell us that samantha went awol. And y'all are not cool anymore. Like i love that. And pretend she's gone and it's all fine also. Don't you think that some are Critic his character is going to be like the one divorce because she's so least likely to be divorced. They've gotta have a good twist. They're already been divorced. she's dead. She converted also watch your language. Watch your language because you keep on saying if you're not gonna have some antibac- if you're not going to invite her in samantha. Was the one kristen her name. I'm i can into the one who said she would never do. Another sex in the city again never wanted to play that character again. It was not her. She wanted to move on. So we can't because a lot of people are pointing fingers at sarah jessica parker a nephew of why shouldn't come back but she said she wasn't going to come. Was it on like kim yet. Her but there was. She couldn't get the last. I think we're done with samantha. They hate each other and the fact that they hate each other to the extent that they hate each other and we still don't really know why is fascinating to me couple. Let's get a couple like major things about the story. What do you think so you think you guys both in kristen's karat. Why can blink charlotte. You think charlottesville. What about big and kerry together or broken up together can carry gonna be together. I don't think it's going to be. I think the new adventures are gonna come with the new woman. I think we're going to get the fashion. I think we're going to get the city. And i also think we're going to get a diverse for the character that we have always need it in this series or something like twenty twenty one like i think it's i think it's just give me comoro. You like let me get my life. Yeah i'm excited about this. I am excited to see what it's gonna be and how they're gonna do it. I'm sure it's going to be good no matter what the way. Let's be honest if kim control really wanted to come back on this show. They would have done it. She worked the last two seasons not liking. Sarah jessica parker joy behar and go back and rosie o'donnell crossing each other at a table for three years. These two can be on together at young to be kuenz. Has no interest was over sad. Can

Us adults reported that they were struggling with mental health or substance abuse. So i think This is a time where really i think. People are struggling. So it's great that you're able to use humor and to be able to help people so let's maybe start from the beginning a little bit and just talk a little bit about your own journey. And how did you get started in comedy where all i was in fourth grade joke and students laughed and more importantly the teacher was hysterical. And i thought. I'm going to be a comedian. Twelfth grade. the talent show nobody'd ever done stand up at the senior town. Joe before clinton seventy five. I did stand up. i want. I went home. Told my mumble. I'm going to be a comedian. If she goes son you go into college. Do whatever you like when you're done you can be a goat herder for all i care but you must going to be a goat herder with a college degree Chapel hill actually be a. It'd be asked. And then mode san diego with my high school and college sweetheart where we got married and big mistake. Because he's a wonderful woman but we absolutely nothing in common. They say opposites attract. She wouldn't pregnant. I wasn't so we never had children. And just by chance in san diego there was a branch of the roth has comedy store on sunset in los angeles. Every time i drove by that place fell this magnetic pole. My i was not a big fan of comedy especially not a big fan of bb coming on comedian. Well she married an insurance guy. Got a comedian. Kind of matrimonial. Bayton switch so. I had to sneak out most gas. Nick huggers bars. I sneak out open mic comedy store. And then i got a job seating. Greetings could watch the become ex-professional comedians. In back them. Jim carey was headlined. Just doing impressions Andrew dice clay ellen degeneres. Rosie o'donnell appall poundstone. Dennis miller and so i watched and soaked in the best comedy available. And let's see. I got about sage first time days before april fools day. I five minutes irvine last night. I heard inside my head. I'm home. I'm gonna do for living absolutely no idea how your leg her and actually book myself on the road. Ten weeks it was kind of the beginning of the big comedy club. Boom from eighty five to ninety five. And i said to my girlfriend now my wife of thirty three years. I'm going to be a standup comedian. Especially you wanna come along and disbanding. Course she'd go no she goes. Yeah so we got. Our jobs gave our part but everything. We couldn't fit environmental dodge colt into storage. And we're on the road. She and i for two thousand six hundred twenty nine nights in a row nonstop seven years. James came off the road to oregon radio meld hometown of raleigh north carolina. Where i took a number one morning show in droves number six eighteen months only drove it in the ground road miller and by the found that was over the comedy club scene was beginning to wane. I always been very clean as a comedian. So i made the jump to the corporate comedy circuit the after dinner after lunch rubber chickens and made a great living doing that about ten years until the recession

A Look At Biden's Campaign Strategy Four Months Ahead Of November's Election
"That one of its most effective weapons against Trump is trump himself. What he says and how he acts. But gun says they're also trying to lay out. The clear difference between these two men are best counterprogramming to Donald Trump is contrast Joe Biden's leadership, his vision for the future. His steadiness. His experience to deal with crises. With what people are getting from their president. Right now, Democratic strategist Paul Begala says the Corona virus pandemic makes the contrast feels sharper than it did in 2016 when he was just a candidate People Judge Trump the way they judged him when he was just a reality TV show. Oh, look, he's picked a Twitter war with Rosie O'Donnell. When you're president and people are dying, picking a Twitter war with bubble Wallace, the NASCAR driver doesn't save my mom's life. Begala points out that in the last century, voters have fired only three elected presidents. And one thing that happened to the incumbent in all of those cases is that people just stopped listening to the president. They gave up on him. I think that Biden strategies to let Trump fail. That's Ari Fleischer. He was press secretary under George W. Bush make biting the smallest possible don't make him an issue. Don't put him in a position to say you ain't black anybody else ever again or make any other foibles like that? And lead Donald Trump take all the heat. He was referring to a controversial comment that Vita made on the breakfast club, Fleischer admits part of what makes this all hard for Trump is that he has a shadow opponent. Biden is nowhere near is visible is the president In the last month, he held three public virtual events, seven in person events, all in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and he did a total of six TV interviews. Pleasure, says Trump just doesn't know how to handle this Loki Biden. For starters, he thinks the nickname Sleepy Joe is off with 3.5 years of President Trump being as red hot as he is. And with the covert scare underway. Sleepy also can notes calm, which very well may be the antidote for many voters. To the trump era. Fleischer suggests jump should try to paint Biden as weak. Button himself may be focused on the less is more strategy. But operationally, Democrats say they're much better position than they were four years ago. Lavoro Barnes is the chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. If you were to have parachuted in at this point in 2016 I think you would have found that there were probably about 20 people on the ground. The difference here is that we have about 160 people on the ground on the ground is figurative. Nobody from dividing campaign is knocking. Indoors. Even though Trump campaign volunteers are Democrats say that's foolish given the rising number of covert cases. But for now, that's not their fight. As Paul Begala told me if your opponent is destroying himself, don't interrupt. Asma Khalid NPR news

Also the Disney families sing along to on. Abc May tenth at Seven Rosie. Was there ever a moment in your career where you considered or where someone advised you or your head got big enough that you were like? I'M GOING TO GET RID OF THE O. Donnell and just call myself rosie now once also now. Roseanne was doing it. You know no one calls me Rusi in my real life. Everyone calls me Bro. So it doesn't really resonate with Mesa now. I never considered that not you to not only do do the three of US share big love of Madonna and Ra music. But I mean I know no to bigger streisand fans than you to what billy is quite engaged in. Barbara's twitter feed. What do you like about it billy? Well what's fascinating to me? And is that when I grew up in the eighties nineties streisand and and Madonna all of them? They felt so far away. You know and especially streisand like once. Every three years streisand would give a quote to live Smith or you heard of her about the off you all. You heard from her for years and now we hear from her every half hour and share and all of these people and it's like wow I just before we knew nothing and now we know every thought and Magin. If when we were in high school you had the ability to possibly here Mrs from Barbara. I never left my house twitter. Where is she you know? I'm sure it would have been blocked. Rosie of you ever been blocked by. Who would we be surprised to know that you're blocked by on twitter? Mostly all the Republican people you know has off. You know what happened to him but I try not to engage like I love the billy gates up with Kirstie Alley to get higher. That's very exciting. I Milli everybody wants to know how lane is from billy on the street. Are you in touch with her? I am in touch with a little bit for people that don't know Elena is a woman our regular New Yorker. I once ran into on the street early on in the series and people love her. She's hilarious and we brought her back a ton. The fans love her. I think her more than me. Sometimes but She's truly one of the funniest people in the world. Yeah the early weeks of Quarantine Elena like a lot of New Yorkers. Even older New Yorkers think she's you know indestructible so we had to convince her to stay inside now. She's inside. She has a mask and the gloves and the whole thing but this is exciting. I didn't know that you were playing Matt. Drudge IN AMERICAN CRIME STORY IMPEACHMENTS. I am Yes. If when we ever get to shoot that I do think we will but yeah. I'm very excited. It's Ryan Murphy. Obviously it's the next season of crime story they did. Oj they did for Saatchi so this one is based on the Clinton Lewinsky Scandal. Monica Lewinsky is a producer on it. she'll have a lot of input and we were just about to start shooting. Sarah Paulson is playing Linda tripp. Who just died out young men so that adds the whole bizarre element of it but hopefully when we get back to being able to shoot. We'll do it. It's a great cast clive. Owen as Bill Clinton I matt drudge. Betty Gilpin from glow. Is Ann Coulter? So it's GonNa be interesting. Wow Dan is a great. That's that's that sounds great rosie. Daddy Pellegrino our friend tweeted US and said Joy said she kept a journal during Rosie's first tenure on the view did Rosie documented to and would she care if joy released hers as book. Now I wouldn't care. Joy Can do what she wants. I think she's a fair person. A kind person funny person. I like her a lot but no I didn't keep a journal. It was just another job was one hour a day. I go in there and do my thing. I didn't really keep a journal now but it won't be fine with me for joining do that. Billy I feel like a whole mass. I feel like billy on the street has really blown up. Since it's been on Netflix. I mean even more than before. Would you say so? Yeah it's having this that sort of typical net flicks effect. Kale had twenty nine. Okay what is the bigger flop? The two thousand six vampire movie musical Lestat written by Elton John or two thousand and two thousand. Two's dance of the vampires row which one I think dance of the Vampires Billy agree. It was Lestat which had thirty nine performances in dance. Vampires had fifty fifty six okay. What was the bigger fought? The nineteen eighty-one bye. Bye Birdie sequel bring back Birdie or the sequel to Phantom of the opera. Love Never Dies Rosie any idea. I gotta go with bring back Birdie because who the hell would want to see that okay and billy. I agree because I've heard of love never dies. That's a little fussy with her light. Es well leading up to it In one of the most surreal moments of my life. Because I wasn't prepared for it. This was back in November because it was a holiday thing. Of course we were doing on the street with Mariah. I was in the elevator of my building. I get a text from. Mariah's publicist saying Moore Ryan. I are calling you in two minutes and so I I have to like go back up to my apartment because I don't WanNa leave at miss the call and then the phone rings and it's no joke it's Mariah Carey who. I've never spoken to singing the billy on the street theme song to me. I like nearly passed out. You know is is insane. And then that led to a long conversation about lighting. But we were able. We got her everything she needed. And I have to say no joke and Andy. I know she's done. Your show a ton. Mariah was so is is so fun we still taxed she so down to earth strangely and fine and had a great time and it was so surreal to walk around New York with her because she lives in New York but I don't think she walks around various. Yeah she was looking into restaurants like easily and Chelsea and she was like. Oh that's easily. It's at really a lawyer. She's a blast. It was really great. That's Great Rosie. You know she's not going to know that it's you and he said all she has to do is put her hand right here and he put his hand near his penis and she'll know it's made she started crying and got up and left the producer. I mean we even during the election even before this sort of in a way in a small way when you know during the election with Tom Steyer Mike Bloomberg or whatever it was like you're spending four hundred million dollars on commercials when you could actually people homes or send kids to school or give people food and now we're in a situation where people need actual tangible things and no one's like you said why aren't they giving their money. Stop spending money on commercials about trump and go right. Pay someone's grants like role. Do something you know. I mean just even the Jitsu for the morale of the nation to see that people who are able to in our country are stepping up. I wish that more. Would you know well? Let me just tell you this statistic for anyone who's who who doesn't know this one is always like so so chilling okay so for the difference between a million and a billion okay a million and a billion so a million seconds do you. Can you guess? Let's say how much a million seconds is no idea years. A million seconds is eleven days. Okay wow okay. A billion seconds. Thirty one years. Oh God Almighty that's something to think thirty one years so we're talking about even people with you know three billion dollars. This is horrible to say and I probably shouldn't say it but I'm going to say so when we did a thing. The other night for the Actors Fund Katharine mcphee and David. Foster whose worth hundreds of millions of dollars. They each gave a thousand dollars. I did instead. You should have seen your face because I'm sure I was shocked. An Interview with U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik
"We begin the program sitting right across from me here is at least defining the congressman from New York the twenty first district in the empire state she is serving her third term of course you know her from the house intelligence committee and the entire but Manza of impeachment outrage from all sides congressman what a pleasure to have you here in Iowa it is great to be back and they also know me because I was on the guy Benson show and had a great time yes that's many people are saying that's what your best known for your previous appearance on the show now twice so I we are honored let's get going by talking about impeachment and I'm thinking about these four days that were in the midst of right now yesterday was the Super Bowl arguably the biggest cultural event in American sort of shared there's the shared experience of America then today we have the Iowa caucuses tomorrow is the state of the union address from the president and then the next day there will be impeachment votes in the U. S. Senate which will happen during the show will be live as those votes unfold the Senate arguments just wrapped up a few moments ago so we're within five hours of the doors closing here in the caucuses in Iowa the closing arguments in the impeachment trial back in DC now over the U. S. Senate will now go into a period of debate where each senator will have an opportunity to speak for up to ten minutes that will carry through until Wednesday afternoon and we saw the president's advocates making their arguments we saw the house impeachment managers making the case to convict the president and remove him from office having had a front row seat to all of this looking at all of the intelligence having these battles in front of the cameras and behind closed doors sitting here now congressman if you had two minutes let's say on the Senate floor today to make your closing argument on this issue what would you say I would say this is about the constitution this is about the fabric of our Republic Adam Schiff when he took to the will of the U. S. Senate said this was not just about the twenty sixteen election but about the twenty twenty election and I believe that this was Democrats focus on undermining the president and really wanting to impeach him since the day after he was elected I think the president's team did a great job laying out the facts and the key facts for me as I looked at all of the depositions I was in the majority of them I read every single word of testimony that Adam Schiff conducted on the house side is the fact is you crane got legal security assistance nineteen days before the end of the fiscal year and it was more security systems than during the Obama administration and you know people may disagree with the president's policies I happen to agree with his policies but anything that was included on the transcript this does not rise the level of impeachable offenses and that's what this is really about this is about the constitution and it's about making sure the American electorate can make the decision at the polls this November as you said this week everything is jam packed we're getting the first votes cast at the caucus so this needs to be figured out by the American people rather than Adam Schiff who has a flimsy flimsy case for impeachment one of the big arguments that everyone had over the last week involved John Bolten the former national security adviser and his potential testimony evidently there's a book coming out where he's going to more or less it seems close the circle on at least an attempted quid pro quo from the president and the Democrats in the Senate said well we must hear from him this is crucial Republicans said no this is not our job in the Senate to hear from someone that the Democrats didn't even bother to subpoena on the house side before they tossed over the transom the impeachment articles to the U. S. Senate I was very sympathetic to the Republican argument saying it's not the Senate's job to clean up after the house and I agree that the house today shoddy rush job for political reasons but I also believe that Bolton and what he knows is valuable and pertinent so I guess my question is because you're in the house and not in the Senate setting aside the Republican argument in the Senate do you think that John Bolton should have been subpoenaed by Adam Schiff do you think his testimony before your committee would have been valuable had the Democrats bother to pursue it yes certainly I think that the more you hear from witnesses I think that's where you get the facts that was a decision made by Adam Schiff not to subpoena John Bolton and also to withdraw subpoenas of other individuals they did not let that play out in the courts and it's the house's job to do the investigation the Senate functions as a jury with the evidence presented so I do think the president argument was very important because it it it would set a precedent for future impeachment hearings and Adam Schiff did not go according to the Clinton and Nixon impeachment process the other thing I want to comment on guy is it was not surprising to me that there was a bomb shell New York times article at the moment when it was essentially publish we saw during the house depositions that every single day there were strategic leaks and media manipulation from the house Democrats we still don't know what is exactly in the manuscript and I get asked not by you but other reporters will the manuscript says this and I'll say to them no this is third hand reported in The New York Times so I think the senators made the right decision to move on get this behind them and again let the American people decide at the polls this November I saw senator Lamar Alexander on meet the press yesterday and will play some of his audio later in the show and he made the argument which is basically where I am which is this was not a perfect phone call the president did act inappropriately in his estimation in a number of ways but then you have to make the decision okay if there was presidential malfeasance abuse of office impropriety whatever word you want to use does that conduct rise to the level of first impeaching a president and second even more significantly removing him from office as we are now nine months away from a general election and he said no he said the damage to our polity to our politics would be far worse with a few purely partisan impeachment and removal process when the American people would have that choice before us taken away from us just by members of the Congress I wonder what you make of that part of the argument specifically with the election coming up and he said the impeachment articles of the Democrats pass in the house would have barred president trump from holding office again it would have taken all of this one hundred percent out of the hands of voters which I know a lot of Republicans suggest was sort of the point because they're nervous about twenty twenty on the other side well I think senator Alexander he's deeply respected and he takes his job very seriously as United States senator and I respect his decision again you know I think this should be determined by the American people but when it comes to the transcript of the call with Ukraine first of all we don't have a lot of transcripts to judge it against because it's so rare for transcript to be released I think that actually sets a very bad precedent for future conversations between heads of state I think the president made the right decision in releasing the transcripts and what I've said is look this president communicate to nontraditional ways he sounds like himself when you read the transcript but when it comes to this question of whether there was an investigation into the bite and there was no investigation into the bite and that's a key fact and to have concerns about potential corruption this president is required by law to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are going to corrupt entities in the national defense authorization act which I helped write and voted for sure and last point on this what I want to move on to a couple other topics I hear your coming from I agree that it is very important and relevant to note that ultimately the by wide investigation was not an ounce and the eight digit did in fact flow to Kiev but there's been a fair amount of reporting that would suggest the reason that the would be quid pro quo was not finalized didn't actually happen wasn't executed is because they kind of got caught the whistle blower start to percolate some senators were asking questions why is this eight not flowing then they pulled the plug so I'm not sure if that's ultimately in terms of outcomes it is a defense in terms of intent I'm not sure it's totally convincing what do you think of that well I think some of the testimony that was very important is this pause on foreign aid it was not just to Ukraine there other countries where there was a pause making sure that taxpayer dollars weren't going to Russia has a skeptical general absolutely he ran being a skeptic in twenty thirteen sixteen and I even have been critical of disagreed with some of the skepticism although as I hear from constituents in my district people want to make sure that their hard earned tax dollars are going to corrupt entities I think they're going to be significant consequences to how partisan this impeachment was it's been very divisive across the country I was in my district this past weekend and people are paying close attention they are not happy with how Adam Schiff a Nancy Pelosi pursued a partisan impeachment and have not been forthcoming with the American people she said you can't have a partisan impasse processor it's not legitimate and then that's exactly what we got and if they cared so much about hearing from the witnesses she withheld the articles for three weeks they could have pursued the process by subpoenaing John Bolton if they cared that much about the facts this was on an arbitrary time line and they just wanted to get this done before the holidays so congressman my guess is the least defining from New York you were thrust into the limelight with this impeachment process and I followed your career because we kind of know each other a little bit as a thoughtful young up and coming member and that's cool and then bang you're on this committee you are gaining a lot of attention people on the conservative side of things are rallying here because the left is really aiming to dislike you strongly and letting that be known on social media and elsewhere giving a lot of money to your opponent and I know there were certain people gleefully doing jigs because your opponent whose big spending tax and spend liberal Democrat was out there raising significant financial resources to try to defeat you then you release your numbers your quarter for a fundraising was like a genuinely a blockbuster just shocking talk about that the numbers and what what that says to you it says that my constituents in the American people support to my focus on the constitution and the truth and any amount of Hollywood money that flows into my district the American people are going to fight back and my district knows that I work on their behalf every single day it's important for the listeners to note that the money that was raised by my far left opponent was off of the hash tag trashy stuff phonic in I was smeared by people like Rosie o'donnell Chelsea handler George Conway and it was an interesting and sort of jarring personal experience to go through but I really appreciate my constituents completely understand what's happening they will all tell you that Hollywood money is not going to change this district and they know that I consciously focus on delivering results and I am an independent voice if you look at my voting record I always put my district first yes and occasionally we have disagreements about some of your votes because you will not always toe the party line that's right and that's the same with me but occasionally are telling of the party line they diverge from time to time and I think that's a healthy thing last question and it's sort of along similar lines involving your growing profile within the party long before your political celebrity bloomed vis a vis impeachment you had really come out and strongly made the case that the Republican Party has an issue with women voters and female candidates down it's dwindled down to a very small number of female Republicans in the house and you said about this one woman mission to to change that trajectory and

"So then he kinda take it easy and in ninety two two years later his next movie is a League of their own which is amazing and he was not supposed to do that. It wasn't supposed to be someone else late replacing thanks so much for supporting role and at the time it was like Oh this is a change of pace. For Hank's he's playing an asshole jerk. He's playing right wrong because even when he was in comedies he was always playing kind of goofy boyish. You know one hundred percent. I'm trying to see who plays. That was a real. He replaced someone I want. I want to say it was a much older actor who is more obvious fit for that character type. Yeah I mean the thing about it is. He's not that's the thing he was too young for. This and Penny Marshall is like you're you're supposed to be a young because she was supposed to be a baseball player. Who just got washed up right right? Well you're not supposed to be an old guy it's hardly Yeah right and so. He gained all this weight. And it doesn't say yeah but it was someone like Harrison Ford but it was like someone like that and then in nineteen ninety-three the year Philadelphia comes out and he also is in sleepless in Seattle. which is so? He and Denzel both had enormous nineteen ninety-three. Yes they did. Yeah because there's the Pelican brief Ya for Denzel in Nineteen ninety-three we'll get on a second. I love sleepless in Seattle. I have seen it one million times. People come to me and they tried to say things like well. I don't like that film or have some objections to the plot of that film. I have a thing to say about it and I'm like I don't know I I don't want to hear but I have never seen it well. That's doing Ephron. Let's do you know who has probably the best scene in the movie. Rita Wilson has an incredible scene in that movie but Rosie Odonnell has a couple incredible. There's a lot of great David. Hyde Pierce has one. Great scene in my favorite character is though the city of New York it's almost like a character in sleepless in Seattle. And that really I think is the movie deep. That's like Tom. Hanks is as you're seeing the People magazine cover guy on Mary and a sweater like this. Is it this is America's Erica's man. This is a big part of it. Also is that just like who could not like top favorite. There's nothing it's weird. He specific acidic and weird enough as an actor without having any type of personality quirk. That could be off putting to a group of people. He's he's he's it's been around forever. We all agreed. Yeah that's that and so I think that's partly why he can take a role like this without too much concern about his story. But you know certainly it was at the time quote unquote Time wants to be planned out gay character period Korea let alone someone who is dying of AIDS he was entrusted with the role as a steward of it like it was like. We think that he will be responsible about this. But he's not like an and yeah you know I feel like some of the big stars of the era like Bruce more action stars. Maybe their agents will be like no. You can't comedy's comedy's not GonNa try to be an action action guy. He's not even a trade. Do like a Nick Cage Pivot Post Oscar. No that takes another fifteen years for him to throw back the hair and become Robert Langdon Denzel Washington. Ashington yeah right. He's a hot young actor eighty nine. He's already before then. You know like he was in cry freedom you got knocked nation. He was on saint elsewhere for many years. Then right gory. He gets his Oscar supporting ask. Here's the Guy Right. Yeah and then who did. He beat that year for the Oscar. I'm just curious. eighty-nine Danny Aiello. Don't get into Dan ackroyd. Think you're right right because I'm thinking do the right thing and and Dr Miss Daisy Aykroyd. Great Yellow Washington. Are you looking at the list right now. Are the other two in best picture. Nominees one is like a legend. Maybe his last nomination Alec Guinness Okay Marlon Brando for a dry white season. The APP I knew is one of those two and then the other one is a F- breath incredible performance from a guy who win Oscar and a couple of years. Then Nottingham Pathetically in comedy drama comedy-drama New York. You know who I'm talking about. I know who I know who you're talking. I mean UH director of talking about it. I this is Is a no no who is yeah New Yorker. We're GONNA talk too much anymore. Yeah I know but now trying to think what performance norman is such a good performance. It'd be this arguably this guy's best movie really I would say. Oh it's crimson misdemeanors. Yeah incredible incredible performance. Yeah good yeah. That's incredible performance and this was the run of Landau just kept on like he reestablished himself as an older actor and he kept on getting those nominations since the Aykroyd like I've never seen driving miss. Daisy plays her son. He's I would. I mean right not bad in the film I think it orbital. I've never seen that either. Yeah well you're in this big movie that we're we love right you've been around so it's surely go here's is your nominee is so big culturally. It's easy to think about like because those. SNL guys hit so fucking huge and at that specific moment eighty eighty nine bill. Murray was essentially just coming out of his Sabbatical Chevy Chase. It already started building ambassador. Belushi had died and those were the four guys that were like one of these guys is going to be a major major making star one of those classic like right like Oh. You're the comedian. And a serious movie. Like he does like a respectable job Bob like that. He's a fine head. Albert Brooks got nominated for Dr. Yeah that's even more of a like. Wow what a stretch. What arrange I've seen the film and my memory Marie Him? Oh my God. You're so annoying. Yeah right she's like I don't know right. And then Morgan Freeman Driving around the South and then Jessica Tandy fold the pizza and half news going to get two great book first. SNL character a cast member to get an Oscar nomination that that sounds right right. I think there are six in total. I did this trivial ones. But it's Murphy or Ellen Clegg. Oh sorry. It's eight twenty twenty minutes after the hour joining us now he's taking a break because it's tax time right now. Imagine the furious fever pitch that drew Tonelli's working at this point during this tax season. Andrew good morning. I just waking up, Sean. Why don't you get through one of those questions, you know, fill in the blank thing. I do have a question. I listen to you guys before, you know, before I come on always wonder, how do I follow this? You bring back some serious nature to. Hey, I do have a question for you, drew besides overspending people spending too much in their budget. What is the biggest problem that you see when it comes to people and their personal finances? You know, you're going to be surprised if my answer, and that is is that most people don't understand how their psychological understanding of money greatly impacts them on a day to day basis. So what do I mean by that? Okay. So you get two people come to me Shandor both overspending. I tell them both what to do one. Does the other one doesn't you say? Well, what happened, you know? And the answer is is because one might just have been, you know, just been frivolous. And you know, when you gave them some straight advice, they took it and one on their way in and started to improve the other one was the impacted by things that has happened to them during their lifetime, psychological things. And so when people start to understand the psychology of money is probably one of the greatest benefits you can bring to your personal finances. Sounds like you're going to have to be a divorce lawyer too. I'll tell you. You know, you'll you'll be amazed at some of the things that we do people who are true professional financial advisers and working with clients and talking to married couples, especially. It's it's a it's a lot more than just the finances. The matter of fact, if you got a personal financial all they're worried about is the finances. You know, you really don't have a very good financial advisor. How how many times drew? Do you come across married couples who may have been married now for the second time around right? And they want to count maintain their wealth. You know, each person wants to maintain some semblance of their individual wealth that was accumulated before the second marriage. How often do you run into that? And how much of a problem can that be? Well, you run into it all the time nowadays, I say, it's probably sixty seventy percent of every couple that comes in over the age of fifty or sixty. And it's you know, you you find when you do find that. Okay. So you have a second marriage. You I'd say about seventy percent of the times, they just integrate their finances and say, you know, I'm gonna just trust. My spouse is gonna do what I want him to do. I'm not gonna do a lot of craze not gonna do prenuptial and so forth, but thirty percent of the time they do want to keep it totally separate and try to maintain their wealth for just your children. And I'll tell you. It's a lot tougher than what the lawyers make it out to be. Like, you know here sign this piece of paper unit. Go she ate. You know, da, da, da da da now. Go ahead and get married, and then you get married, and you're thinking, okay, I've done everything I needed to to protect my wealth. It's not that easy. Trust me. I love that question because Chuck would occur asked me to ask you that. I have a friend. Tonight, money Richardson wealth at six what are you discussing? Now, we're going to have Christie Ron he's with company called shift, and they're talking about how to make a company great and we've been working with them. And I think if the topic for all business owners if they ought to be listening into all right? Very good, drew. We'll be tuned into night. Thanks again. All right. Take care. That's true financial constant fourteen to three four ten eight two three seven two eight three joining us. Now also on our newsmaker hotline is a great local talent singer, Caroline, black suit tears with us and Carolyn welcome to the show. Great to be here. Good morning, gentlemen. It's always a pleasure and a big show coming up at the Gordon center. I think it's next Wednesday. If I'm not mistaken. Bravo bernstein. Yes. Pravo Bernstein on Broadway. And it big is is the key word there because we're going to have a hundred orchestra members on stage from the great Peabody institute the Peabody. Penny. Arcade stra, and then we're going to have nine fabulous singers. I think coming stars. And it's all about the great Broadway shows Bernstein Rev. Look you've sung Berlin. Gershwin's on time. Rogers and Hammerstein the whole nine yards. What's your favorite who's your favorite composer to sing? Depends on the project. I'm working on it sort of whatever I'm working on at the time. So if you had asked me two weeks ago when I did show. I may mean personally this Bernstein show. I love what I really love about. It is that it's he gets he had this glorious music that he writes with a big orchestra. And that's the best way to hear it west side story can't be on the town. And then I love the energy that Bernstein. He wrote a lot of stuff. When he was younger. Kind of energy, and that kind of American, you know, energy and bravado that you here in his music, and then you get performed by people of the right agent, there, young energetic, their vibrant. So it's I think the show is really spectacular because of the size and. Are these all local vocalists that'll be performing next week? Or is it a mixture? They're all graduate students or undergraduate at Peabody, and of course, because I'm a fair narrating. I have to sing a little bit. I can't help myself either. So obviously, you wanna teach selection really feature sees these young singers who are onto big careers. And so everyone gets a chance to hear them making say a couple of years, I heard them Africa Gordon center. Well, everybody that I talked to whether it be a musician or a singer like yourself, they usually at a very young age. No that that's what they wanna do. How old were you? When you first when you first learned or knew you wanted to be a singer. Well, I think we'd be embarrassed to say now knowing my, but I I think I do in junior high school, but I do much before anyone else because I I didn't get solos in the choir, and that sort of thing, and I thought gosh, I, you know, I think I should be singing more. And so eventually, I guess my own expectations caught up with reality a little bit. So, you know, and I, you know, it's been wonderful. I've had a great career, and I love singing ethic. Gordon sandrino? You ask me. What's my favorite show, one of my favorite places to thing? It's going it is a spectacular venue fifty artists and even more importantly for the audience. I think acoustically it's one of the best in Maryland. Walking narrow you're an expert on that. So. In the industry. They love to have the opportunity to perform there. And then you know, there's easy parking. There's not a bad seat in the house. It's it's just a lovely face. And it's easy to get to. It's right off the seven ninety five. So I think if folks are listening if they haven't been to the Gordon. You know, that alone is worth the traffic, experienced, decorate hall, Caroline blocks. So here break a leg. Look at the next week. Thank you..
