"You know you hate the the these awful things that happen and it sucks but it also just it does make you who you are and if that is the one positive thing to come out of it then at least there's that you know yeah. Yeah so i'm that you also found andy he's so funny he's a rosebud is is married to a very funny comic andy hanes and Great you guys do a podcast together. Right find your beach. Are you still doing that. We're still doing it. We're still doing it. We started that podcast on the first day of quarantine and then we got engaged on the third and not on the episode. We're not back gross but We we got engaged on the third day. And so it's kind of like. I don't wanna stop doing it ever because it really has like been. It's it catalogued our entire relationship from dating to being engaged to being married. We podcast it on our honeymoon. I mean it's so much we have the whole thing And i can go back and listen to it and remember where we were and what we were going through and it's like i think it's a good you know it's it's marriage. It's a different marriages. So different than yeah. You know. I mean you just got married you. Even though it's the same at first over time. I'm i'm realizing how different it actually is right. Yeah i'm still not. i'm. I'm like you in that just seeing the the concept of marriage evolve and i mean definitely. There's like this team sort of thing also. Sometimes you drive your teammate crazy. You know but you're like in your like we're we're doing this. We got this but Yeah it's not always rainbows and butterflies but there is something so nice about not worrying that person's going to leave because you're 'cause i like a beast or whatever the thing right trump's someone crazy yeah like it some. I've noticed. I think i don't know if if me and andy talk more than other straight couples but we were both raised around so many women. There's we do a lot of talking. You know really a lot of talking. And i think it both of us go a little nuts over. It's like oh my god we're gonna talk. You know what. I mean like lesson lesbian couple of our lesbians. Yeah we're like we go now to talk and arca sal and it's like yeah and it's i think i can see his eyes like glaze over like i can tell you like doing crossword puzzles and his mind but But he good at like just talking it out with me. And i feel like i have to do. I have to like works shit like that. Yeah yeah you guys are very. I haven't gotten to be around you too much outside of comedy life but Or at all because we really started through a computer but you guys are so funny together. I liked the report that you have. Yeah it's it's fun. Seek to together is is so is so funny in in cute and all that mushy stuff yeah. It's i think it's with during the podcast. We'll be on our will be right on the edge of a fight. And i can tell when i watch it. I'm like oh this is gonna make people nervous but it always goes in in a funny direction. You know what i mean. It's always like both of us are very will. Fight it out. We were not afraid to just duke it out in book. We'll be with friends and they're like exists. Funny you know what i mean. Is this a bit. "Like living like a living like someone in his bugging soup kitchen honestly like first couple years of comedy. I was like because i don't get like hadn't when i got sober. I cut my dad off. And i didn't. I stopped taking money from him. Because i obviously my relationship to the feeling of guilt is very strong and so anything that i had taken from him or anything. I had accepted from him. Made me feel guilty and eventually was like. I just can't do this to myself. So i just basically chose to be poor and and lived like that and it's funny like i go back now and i see their house and stuff and i'm like holy shit like i'm like they have so much money like the way my step mom just goes out and buys a boat. I'm just like y. Gosh your a boat. Like she's like it's made up and she talked about it like it's a little toy boat but it's a she's just went out bought a key chain. It's but it's a yeah she's like it's my boat. It's not your dad's boat. It's my boat. And i'm like okay. Well sort of feels like a massive massive purchase. You know what. I mean right sort of feels like something that would go to him if you died. That kind of you know we're like i'm like it was just so different than the life. You're living what am i. God yeah if me. And andy died the other one. The only thing the other one would get is our debt. Like that's all we would have to give the other you know so it's just this like very weird thing where when you grow up you of course your family's always your family but it's such a weird moment when you realize like oh it's not. That's not my main family anymore. You know like my main family is the one that i've created. This is the family that i have that. I think the best part of adulthood. Is you go all right. I lost childhood that game. I lost this one. i'm nailing it you know it's like i love adulthood. I mean you've come a long way and you've had to deal with a lot of ship but it's it feels like when i talked to you and see you that you have found happiness which i love absolutely. Yeah that for you. yeah. I mean for anyone. I think we all have a story. That's probably that's got its moments of like raji in it and i like to. I like to shed some light on those moments because they they are the thing that makes you who you are like the worst thing that happens but without it who would you be..

"I didn't see that there and when i came and i started doing stand up and i started doing these open mic. I just saw people that were really as lost as i was. And you know it was like we had. We had time to sit on the street all night. Barking and getting people to come into a comedy show so we do five minutes. It's like do you know how little you have to have going on in your life for that to be something where you're like. This is a good way to spend the night. Oh yeah. I remember those days. Yeah the comedy store toll. Two in the morning Yeah i guess. I won't do anything but this And it was like it gave me a home. It gave me like a place to really get to know who i who i am and while i was doing it i was like. Oh this is that thing. I was supposed to. This is the thing that i missed my whole life and and it was crazy because people have been telling me since i was a kid like my dad was always like. You're funny. you know you should. You should be doing comedy. And i remember being so insulted by i i mean it was. It literally hurt my feelings. Every time he said it. I thought comedy was like that's like a loser. Profession losers wall so you came from a very interesting family of Love politics right. I mean yeah yeah. Father worked for jewish reagan. W bush was a secretary of state right. Yeah jayme yeah. James baker yeah area state and he was so he That's wild when. I see like your comedy because you talk about your very liberal. And that that's so synonymous the you know. Bush reagan obviously with very conservative views. So it's it's so interesting that i mean that part of your background. Well it's funny. Like i remember thinking as i started. Stand up like i was like. I can't tell anybody about this lookout. Really can't tell anybody then. The longer i did it the more i was like. Why wouldn't i. Why wouldn't i tell anybody about. This is like a crazy story And also you know. It was difficult for me to talk about because they. I'm not very close with my side of my family. I'm not like really close with my grandparents. I'm not super close with my daddy than like. I had to email my dad to tell him. I was getting married because we hadn't talked in like two years. You know yeah so. It was like one of those things where i was like Just seen i'm engaged and just see now. I know it's weird between not so just letting you know you know it was like back and anyway so it is like a strange thing to have this very wealthy political and browns and.

"As somebody who's been an alcoholic and as someone who has loved an alcoholic sober. I can verify. Loving alcoholic is worse. I mean it is really so much. It's much more painful because an alcoholic you at least numb yourself right now. You're kind of there for it but you're also not there for it. 'cause you wake up the next day and you're like that wasn't me though is just like drunk me when you're sober you're experiencing all of it underneath it all is this this like belief Me you would quit And of course that's insane because you wouldn't say that to a diabetic you wouldn't be like if you loved me. You wouldn't be diabetic. Like and i should have known that i'm an alcoholic so i knew but it didn't matter because i was trying to fix something that happened years before i always trying to prevent him from killing himself so that i could save someone that i wasn't who was already dead. You know. I was trying to save my sister. i've not to carry. Yeah i was. It was a lot. And i was in fair apy at that time and i remember going to therapy forcing myself to go to therapy because i was like this is really bad. I mean My life is supposed to be going better than this. Because i'm sober. I'm like i'm working. I there's no reason why should be stuck in this holding pattern of like focusing all of my attention and energy into relationships with people that don't want me and also that i'm not even really. I don't even really want them. I'm just trying to prove myself. You know right so it was really through therapy that i kind of learned what was what the game was what i was really doing right and i remember my therapist asking me at one point. Hey if you those crying. And i was like he's gonna die you know. He was back in my apartment. I had to get somebody to like. Come to my apartment to take him to the hospital..

"I and i think it's best if you never contact them again and then walk through my sponsor saito and it was just like the like i would go down the list and be like well. I did this to this person. She'd be like okay. Yeah we're gonna leave that personal loan on. Because i wanted this chance to be like redan like redeemed. I wanted this. It was really. She was right because it was all for me. I wanted a chance to be like look at me now. And it's like nobody wants to see that when you've ruined their lives like right they don't wanna see you better. They just want you go away. Happy married to here with respect. I feel you know. There's an mad. So i just had to leave people alone and that was way harder for may cause Making a policy. I was like oh. I got this i can make policy i can. I can really turn it on and like make myself charming and i think my sponsor saw that right away and was like no. We're not going to let her do this manipulative drug addict thing. Where she you know lets people know that. She's better now and sponsor yeah. Yeah she relies but man. I laugh on this podcast about uncomfortable. Things broken clock is right twice today. You know man well. At least she helped you. I'm sorry i'm not saying that. And then i was like now. It's funnier if i do the i mean. They made me laugh. Even though i felt really bad for her she probably find now. That's good i hope so. I hope she's okay. Did so was that the next like significant shift in your life getting sober. Is that when it feels like another lifetime right has now passed and was that the was that when you started doing comedy. Wouldn't you know i got. I got sober. And i continued to make really. I mean it did feel like a new lifetime getting sober..

"Alcohol drugs whatever i mean that seems to be the thing that people say something like that that helps numb feelings or or was that i mean you think those were interconnected in any definitely where i think i mean. I think i was a drug addict before. Oh yeah just based off like my personality and like memories. I have of me as a kid. Like i used to go to renan's i would hide loot under my bed and then i would go to friends houses and i would. I would just be thinking the whole time and the food that i'd hidden under my bed at home. Oh interesting and i would wanna go home to go. Eat that by myself. That would and that's like a major red goes like oh that's drug addict. Behavior lake. be out in the world with others and just feel alone while you're with them but also prefer to be alone Just doing the thing that makes you that sort of shut you off from the rest of the world. That was like a so. I think that was then me already. But this was like a perfect catalyst and an excuse for me to drink the way that i really always wanted to and stu use drugs the way that i always wanted to. Yeah and then. I mean was that a big part of your life or wh- 'cause i know you you said you're sober now. Did that awhile to get to sobriety. He was not a big part of my life. Because i was not a functional addict like i there is no i mean. I had so much pain that i was trying to work through and why wasn't trying to work through it. I was just trying to add so much pain. And i was just like really really threw myself into drinking and drugs and was like i. This is what i want to do for the rest of my life like this crash thirty. Yeah so good at this. I found the thing i meant to do..

"Hands a strong okay. And that's our policy so He told the inspector the usps inspector that one of the investors money had gone into an artist deposit for his shows at the tuxedo junction. You did a documentary and also said it was a ponzi scheme documentary and also this was in twenty nineteen when he was like i mean he in twenty one thousand nine hundred. I remember he was released. He's the charges writing down so after pleading not guilty in the twenty one was found guilty and convicted of six counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. "New haven girls. This is this one's for y'all okay. Go up yeah in connecticut. Okay doesn't sound sexy. But i mean something's fishy didn't either so now he's place we got some images okay so this toads plays So this isn't really a club. This is like a bar you go to the has like a very sticky laminate countertop. This is in new jersey strip club at this. Is they doing lab music. Sometimes this the current. i'm asking. Yeah this is like. I mean this is not a good look. This is the kind of bar where definitely some bitch name. amy is going to spill her bureau. You the awning looks like a pizza place. The hand into the restaurant looks like a pizza. Place places encouraging. Violence is the kind of place where they're like. Yes do get drunk and fight somebody The bar break things. Yeah and this is like come here at the end of the night. This jawan you. This isn't your first destination last destination you hit when all everything is shutdown tell us as overlay and they keep the pizza going. It's under a heat lamp. But you know sustenance and we saw. This chef is under a heat lamp. Okay so it's plays so back to the place that we're talking about. Tuxedos wants to stop for alternative rock bands. Travelling from new york to boston occasionally a net for ax that would eventually go. Multi-platinum corn blink. One eighty two oasis. It had been several years since the venue had enjoyed that level of success. that once had But yeah you can hold onto that. We all do shitty venues outdoors stand up and karma lounge and making hookah is at the same time. So you know we all do a and it was on the basis The base where also did foot parties. And i told you about that another episode so we need to get into that so this is tuxedos. Now we're looking at tuxedoed. Made a video for it is okay. So we're going to watch some of the advertisement for tuxedos junction. Classy is a brick. They got a black on. And you can barely read the font. It looks like somebody painted it like with a brush. Yeah like this is. This is like this looks like my handwriting on my moving boxes right or you know what. It looks like hugo on instagram. Use the writing tool which are finger and then you try to cursive. This was the finger was to cursive perfect. Yes that's exactly what it looks like. Let's a little bit is i'm interested. It's called connecticut's premier live music. Venue tuxedo junction. Okay some music. Yeah you'll play my okay. It looks like a music venue Okay now why are they filming. Empty like this in all cold. I mean i could see them trying to like oh. They got a nice green room. Are we calling for for connecticut. I'll okay okay. I'll compared to frog place or whatever throws ads. Okay and then they do show a rave at the end and they had confetti filing so. If you're on the right amount of stuff you might have a good time tuxedo. You're going to see this in the dark. All of it is in the dark and you'd think like blue green purple lights. You know right euphoria. Lighting it's going be sexy. Yes this is like if you fauria was on. Vh one is giving So this is something may in created. He created this video like with the trailer so that the girls could see like what's what's going on is acute so we love this So behind the scenes of the crime. So he did that promo and got pop it and then he also had a kind of documentary style trailer. So you know he's trying to give with he's not to give the energy the energy okay so behind the scenes of the crime. During the time the end was building the entrepreneurial career he was also committing crimes will likely doodad like he's he imports exports. Okay yep he's a club promoter by the time he's sixteen yes he's doing crying. Yup i don't know if any club promoters aren't doing crime truly. Yeah it just feels like something is a side hustle you else. It's kind of a crime just to bring people to the club to be honest. Let's be on like like so the real story behind his starting a wholesale import company. What do we say and raising funds from friends and family was quite different than the story that he was publicly pushing so remember. He had a documentary maker too so he was also trying to like. Here's the thing. If you do crime you cannot be famous. come on the jim. Shaw is the erica. Jane's they taught us nothing. You know you cannot famous doing crime. You have to be ourself in the video. Do not put yourself in the video right or may also lead bank. See if you wanna be famous like just. Don't be seen ever. These brexit probably do grab to the limitation may basic sumi. It's like daft punk. Walk around with a helmet on right and you could be famous as soon as you put it on and then as soon as you take it off you can go do crime again right around the world. That's in around the world. Because i do a crab around the world. Okay around now franco. Some help ahead. I was like you know. I was so sad. When they broke up in the middle of the pandemic i was like now this tragic honestly daft. Punk was the only people who dependent but they had all masks. I know you guys were fine your innovators. Nobody was doing it. Honestly how even break. If y'all wear should oh yeah. Hey what by getting the casto we would never know. And.

"Said he hooked up. With a rhode island idiom promoter and continue to promote shows around danbury and the university of rhode island campus however according to ian almost every show lost money and he started a wholesale imports company to eliminate the debt a wholesale imports company. What does that mean. i don't know sounds like rhyme. Sounds like granny drugs right. Because i think that's what you import when it's wholesale he. Yeah i think. That's i think it's just like a lot of drugs. He's what do you do for an import export imports of cocaine. Um customs those you know we basil. That's what i do right first. Big break into entrepreneurship came in two thousand thirteen. When tuxedo junction had an unused separate bar. Space become available for rent. Shortly after graduating high school he started ammon be ventures and raised six hundred thousand dollars for his new ventures six thousand dollars jesus according to ian he raised the money in quotes through friends and family. If friends and family who will give you six okay. Why you've been trying to work. I mean is wow. How well is dan berry doing and like how well is danbury connecticut doing at this point right everybody. Put your air force ones on and you know. Get your ski masks dan. Barry's whereas at like his father also happens to own a still functioning high end catering. Business called some things fishy. Look why would you call your catering and his day. I mean this just really sounds like all the food is gone. Bad right also. Like fishy has never been like the word that i would want. Okay the food is cute though. Okay also i feel like. Are you looking at the way this is the. Something's fishy website. Albuquerque these this is not the food from. Something's fishy though. Looking for you arouses. Something's fishy came. I know but these photos are from the four seasons website. Okay he has ripped these photos species that were. Oh micros lodge out. Never mind. I god slander on a tiny avocado. Bree out. what is that. that's across teeny. that's a christina. Okay this fool. Looks good as for i take it all back. Something's fishy. I wanna do my wedding. Something's fishy also. Feels like he's sort of waving a white flag already before he's gotten caught right when it shows up and it's not giving all this come out with on the half shell ooh. Oh yes she is what you say when you get the invoice from something. It's probably expensive as hell. Maybe that was fishy okay. We're gonna have a champagne. Me on them wasters. Okay look i like to eat all right name. I'll post these photos though because the photos are giving the photos are giving deliciously a are sexy they are. I'm a little warning now. Okay so ian still only nineteen began renting tuxedo junction. second space so tuxedo johnston. You guys haven't surmised as a bar club situation So he starts renting their second space the bar and proceeded to open the sky bar and lounge. How many sky bars have been in my life. I can't even tell you. I can tell you zero. I've been two zero. Yeah i've at least been i. I have not been to a single sky bar. I do not give invite her to a sky bar energy like not not with this voice. You give her a call. That means that you get invited to the skyrocket. You are very cute. Like she's very beautiful woman. Y'all seen but you know what somebody who gets invited to a call. It seems lost. Someone who gets invited to a sky bar just seems up for things in a fun way. Also kind of low key lost though. That's just like loss belie. Give me a cocktail but sexy. Right your club for specific agenda. If i go around the club and i'm like so what are you here for your like bachelorette ladies night. We're here 'cause my boy just got married. We're here because my boy just got buried like you know like if you have a reason to be in the club cool but if i come up clubby you're just like he i don't know they said it was ladies night down the street calls. That's your next place to recruit. The i can give you all advice. No just pulling people from the back of the line. Go get in any way it'd be the last place you be like you. Everyone could go. Do we have a place for you. We have a place where everyone's allowed right so he opens a second space sky bar. I don't know how people get. Llc's for sky bars now. Because i i'm telling you. I've at least to seven so during this time. He was also slated to open a gourmet hamburger restaurant in a choice location. Radical new plan was to open the restaurant whose space it seems several owners over the previous years. He so this is his quote. He said we're going to be doing something a little different. We'll have high quality freshly prepared hamburgers at reasonable prices. We will also offer delivery services. I don't know if that's different from the other restaurants high quality a hamburger. Just really. don't yeah it's just he's just talking in. He's talking in a way that you that you talk to investors. You say we're doing things a little differently and then you describe something. They already know so that they feel safe enough to give you their money but they also trust you with the creative stuff because they're not creative. How quality hamburger like how high quality can we go. I mean you would. You give wasn't truffles on it. I mean i don't know how it's like high quality hotdog is the threshold on. How's it going to be got high quality mozzarella sticks like what what are you. What are you talking high quality jalapeno. Populace it's bar food bar. There's only so far we can take. Okay okay But you're right. That's investor lingo. He's trying to get the girls to give him money. Also if several restaurants have been closed in this space as someone who used to work in the restaurant industry like we all know that means. It's a bad luck situation. Like i used to work in a place called roku before that it was Someplace called chin woman or something in the before that it was hamburger. Mary's back in the oj. Trial days before that it was like it was like a bad luck space. It was something about it. Didn't work so it's like watch again right. There's so many places like that in new york you pass by that you just like. It's a new business every year. And you're like good luck. I hope you can make it work but no it's just like you're you're building a business on a graveyard of other businesses. Some spirits in there is like linear people always get something to like. Linear is because spirits. The mayor and they don't want them going in there. Stop trying okay. you're different. You're not different from people before you so yes. Father also was said to have lent him to manhattan chefs from the catering company to help open his restaurant. Now we saw would. Something fishy was giving. So if anybody can elevate a hamburger. A hamper. Gasa is probably. Something's fishy right. So sky bar folded after six months went lamp but there were rumors that tuxedo junction might close to so the whole business was doing this. Is the bar. This isn't the restaurant and so an scooped into purchase. The place tuxedo. Junction could have been considered similar to new haven's toads. Place do you do. That is.

"Yeah i was. I was listening to a bunch of episodes Beforehand and i do love that it. It feels like you're still kind of learning shit about one another including the fact that Your husband just drank vinegar as a child. I was just listening to that episode. Which was so upsetting. Learned so many awful things about his childhood through the podcast like yeah. He drank vinegar. I'm like he just loved the taste of it. Just chug it. I'm like you're a psychopath about is that is psychopathic. Yeah well we're getting near the end. And i do wanna ask I haven't gotten hit by a car yet. My internet is still on So we can talk more about the special What can you say about the special. So you said it's coming out on on youtube on the eighteenth. So i believe it'll be outweighed people here this yeah It's coming on the so it's basically like I talk about everything in my life on it. I talk all my comedies. Very personal i talk about talk about cova. did i talk about my reaction to the healthcare. Heroes I talk about and and the not the healthcare heroes themselves but the getting on our rooftops every night and clapping for them. That was that was a strange period of time. That went on for a long long time. Right and i remember walking by I live in gramercy. And i was walking by.

"I'm just going to not better myself this year and i would go and then i would stop going and then we'd go again and it just started to feel like i'm just talking through stuff. I'm not really like doing anything. And i've been in therapy for eight years with the same guy. So it's like i we. We get through lulls giant. But i turned to podcasting. And i really my husband and i started a podcast on the first day of lockdown and then we we weren't even engaged at the time right and then also all of this happened during the podcasting and i was china working out all my issues with will live change of getting engaged and feeling like you're losing your autonomy and and of course i wanted to get married but i have a lot of intimacy issues that i still deal with in marriage and like and they come up on the podcast and podcasting is a great way to work through your issues. I really is. You have people being like you're not alone. I totally relate to you and and you you stop kind of feeling isolated with them. Yeah yeah i would agree with that. Yeah i do think i do. Think podcasting is a good medium for for that because the other element. I don't know how how much you spend on like youtube It's a horrifying community of people. And yeah you have sort of taken now like the big way. I feel like to go. Viral on youtube. Now is to get into like a few. It's basically people having like a breakdown on youtube in the they'll film like an hour long video of them like absolutely destroying their relationships with their friends. And then yeah you know monetize it and it's like podcasting is the opposite of that. You're you're having you're talking through stuff in a way that is one sided. yeah it's. I'm very scared that the specials coming out on youtube. I'm not gonna lie. It's it feels like feeding myself to sharks. I'm what is your relationship with with The comment section. What's my relationship with them busy read. It's the relationship that i have to my family. It's the exact same relationship like beware. Don't do it. And then i always do. It's like joan engaged. Don't just just eighth table and don't engage. And then i always do i always do. I'm always like in there just fighting with people. I'm trying if i if you don't see me responding to comments on youtube and my special than i've really reached a new level of of growth but i'm gonna i'm gonna put. I put one hundred dollars down on the fact that right now that i will be talking to those people. Sure sure so. I mean you mentioned this. So you you do. The podcast with Your fiance now husband. Who proposed right like a few days into recording slash quarantine. Yeah read as we'll see planning that ahead of time or with like hey we're gonna be stuck together. Might as well as planning it. He was hitting it ahead of time. I don't you know my it was my birthday when he proposed and You know it wasn't like a. I would love to have one of those stories where it's like. I was so surprised. I was like like not. You know what i mean. I'm in my thirties. We'd started dating. And i was like. Hey if you don't wanna get married. We should just keep moving. Because i'm going to try to find somebody wants to get married and When you are dating in your thirties there's no like it's a business. It's like a business deal. You're both at the end of your. You don't have time for bullshit and you just you let them know what you want up top each. Tell them this is what i'm looking for. And then you just get into it you just start the build a life together and it feels a lot like a business partnership in that way right. That being said he did try to make it. He you know my husband's like just the sweetest man. And he was like he tried to put it in this little to go box like we were watching eternal sunshine. Which is my favorite movie. And then he got hake out from this italian place in l. a. and the ring in a little to go box and when we were eating dessert he was like. Hey if you want some sauce for the suits in that little thing. And i was like they don't put you know put sauce onto. Yeah i was like this. This is a rank he was like. Can you just please you know. And he was like you. Were you surprised as like no not really no. But i'm i'm happy. Y'all get doesn't have to be surprised at listen. I'm in my thirties. If you want to surprise me you have to pull out a weapon. That's how that's how women in their thirties. Are ya yana. there is. There is a lot of pressure on People to kind of make this grand romantic proposal. And i think it comes from that comes from that time when like people proposed in a way that was like i don't know the person doesn't see it coming like maybe they didn't talk about it where it was just like. I don't know man will just propose to you. Well it comes from a time when getting married was an accomplishment for women right and it's like that's not what that is anymore. You know what i mean. Getting married is is a nice thing. It's great and on its own. It's the fact that i found a man who's willing to commit and who wants to and that. I love riot is an accomplishment. But it's not. It's not an accomplishment in the way that it used to be. It's more of an internal thing. So i just find the whole the pageantry around it kind of archaic josh stupid right right. I just had a friend who got engaged in. Yeah it was like you know they. They went through the whole thing. And it was like a whole setup and all this stuff and it was like that. How exhausting. But i'm sure.

"And i need to get what i need and get back in the car. Get out john. Yeah so had you kind of been consistently performing throughout the last year. Or i mean a lot got shot down right around for most of last year. Yeah i mean. Here's the thing. I had the special in. I recorded the special in march in nashville this year. Right right so march. Twenty twenty one and those things were like they were still pretty bad in march. Twenty twenty one. Yeah and i was like okay. Well i pop to work this hour out. Because this is coming up and i i would go to these places in the midwest that i'd be like hey i beat onstage talking about covert and people are like i've never heard of it acting in the audience. Yeah and it was an you know. I needed those audiences but at the same time i and i wanted to make them laugh but they're laughs. Were the most contagious. I was like your laughs are a threat to me so it was a very odd position to be in a comic beyond stage and And then there was also just the the politicizing of the virus and the way that if you were on stage you were a bad person. I and so. I felt all kinds of ways about doing comedy during this time and of course i was wearing a mask i was in the green room i would get off. Stage would go home. I wasn't like meeting with people right but it was. It was Gary in some places it was a little scary. Yeah it does. Get that thing of which i feel like. Your comedy is very much in this realm of like you know everyone is dealing with a lot of shit and like they want laughter but also like yeah. You have to weigh that with like okay. Is it safe to be killing people by being here and it's it is a delicate balance. But you're here you're right you made it this far. I made it this far Well i don't want to get ahead and not get other items on your list if you if you had others i do. I didn't mention hydration. Say i am really when when i was reading the question and i was thinking about it i. I turned to my best friend and i was like. Hey blair do i. What do i hate that. Everyone else loves and she was like drinking water and a half months solid point i. I didn't know that everybody loved drinking water. I didn't think that was like a unique thing. But i guess it's a very popular thing to do. I will go a whole day drinking no water and then all of a sudden i'll be like why do i feel like i'm dying. Brian like oh. I haven't drank water. So i'll i'll force myself to do it But i don't like it. It doesn't taste like anything ya true. It is that thing that you have to drink that nobody like nobody particularly loves that. Although i will say there there is like an entire cultures retire like subculture round loving water like people. Now people go hard for water they do. I guess i think it's like exercise like if you do it a lot. You start to love it right but it's very hard to get yourself to that point. Yeah i. I did become one of those i trainer. Who is like you know. You need to be drinking more water than you could possibly imagine that you think you need Which is too much water. 'cause then i was just passing constantly like there is there. Is that part of it. But i got one of those giant kind of dow in bottles of water that i would fill up and drink and it is. Nobody should be drinking that much water. It's an i all. I you could overdo it you can. I think if you'd like peeing like a pregnant woman in her first trimester. Then yeah it's gonna be a problem if you are. I think it's probably better to do that then to do what i'm doing which is like all. Get my gordon's right you. You kind of eat a slice of watermelon. And you're like that's my hydration for the day. That is a hundred percent. What i do you just nailed it. Yeah i maybe it is. Because i've started kind of really drinking more. I now it's like i do feel when i'm under hydra. I'm like oh. I don't feel like i'm like awake enough right now. I think i need a glass of water and it helps. That could explain why. I'm tired all the time to see. I didn't know i mean i care so little about water that i i wouldn't say that i hate it but i just you know it's worse than hate not caring about something and i mean that's truly meeting something implies that you wish you loved it on some level right sure water. I'm just like what is the doesn't even register in your in your hour by hour exist. Yeah not part of my daily thoughts. Yeah it is. It is one of those things that yeah. I've just kind of begrudgingly accepted that i have to. I'm the last like poster child for drinking. I'm doing a horrible job of being a a representative for the water community. But yeah i've never seen someone so upset about their commitment to drinking water. Actually you seem you seem like. I was forced into this job at the time. That's good because most of the time you see somebody and they're like i could. Just i could never right never know about your between of like knowing i need it and and and being sort of semi committed but not not having the motivation to do it which is really you know a kind of summary for my entire life. Yeah so this is kind of just unpacking That's that's the secret to this podcast. If you haven't picked up is that you know. I have a guest on and then i sort of just unload my own kind of personal issues and you just kind of on the witness my my my spiraling and all nothing and we all go home unfixed in right like my therapist. Issan this is. This is just a slightly cheaper way of me. Getting therapy so i kind of stopped going to therapy through the pandemic. I was like you know what..

"As they did when they were alive. Is psychotic to me like if you brought me. If i ask for a burger and you brought me a full cow and i'm just supposed to just slice into it. There's no way i'm doing that. But for some reason they do that with fish in. Nobody's got a problem with it. I really don't get the The like serving the entire fish as a like on the play where you know you see the head and the tail and all of that like to me. The only way. I'm able to eat me and i'm not a vegetarian but the only way i'm able to if it's so far removed from the original being. Yeah yeah right inefficient right. Same also lobsters. I know like this this relates to the whole water theme. People love lobster. It's it's supposed to be this delicacy i need. I need people to know. Lobsters used to be food for prisoners. Okay in maine. They would throw these hair vying. See arachnids into a hole in the ground. Where prisoners were and they'd force these prisoners to eat lobster. Because a i mean if you've ever eaten lobster if it feels it takes so long to get to the meat that it feels like free labor do it. Is prison food but ben. they'd like rebranded it. All of a sudden they rebranded it and lobster had a huge comeback. And and. i think it's all wrong. I think we should just eliminate it completely john. I'm with you. i've never been a lobster person. I also they way by like you know you you get it by the weight and like most of it is just casing. It's just the rapper that it comes in. Yeah exactly no. I do appreciate though that you truly done your lobster research. You're not just kind of coming with a stereotype. you know. View of lobsters. You've done the homework. Yeah i mean every time you look at a lobster on a menu and you see that. It's like forty dollars. I want you to know they use. Just throw them at prisoners to scare them and now here you are at a restaurant. Yeah about about to debase yourself. Yeah you're being a sucker. Yeah don't do it. I am i am truly with you i. Yeah all seafood. I'm not a seafood person like sushi. It's y you know. La i feel like i will never fit in in l. a. because i refuse sushi. Yeah it's just not. It's not as not a person either. Where did you grow up. I grew up in right outside of dc okay in northern virginia which is as boring as it's now. It's not sure. I believe there's fairly boring to be fair. Yeah yeah. I mean as a as somebody who travels the country constantly just doing comedy right. I can tell you. Every place is the exact same zion. There's slight variations but for the most part this entire nation as a strip mall. And there's whatever you're looking for you've got in your town right right Yeah there. Are those little differences though where it's like people who grew up in may in or whatever will be like. Oh yeah i've eaten lobster. Since i was an infant and right about just like a part of their part of their culture up there. Yeah yeah there's a slight there's slight variations for sure. I mean you know. New yorkers are very busy. Mom but new yorkers i love new york i've lived there for fifteen years but it's an outdoor mall okay. We live in an outdoor mall through. If you really wanna make it then bowl and then. La is i mean it's the desert. No one should be alive out there. I don't know how. I mean it's on fire there. You can't get really any clear that it's literally on fire right and and everyone there drives so they're part of the problem you know but it's it is like i mean i do. I'm like such a hater. I i like living in the us. I like the. I like america even though people hate it and obviously capitalism is occurs by her. But i like it. I mean we can. We can drive. I've driven across our country like rear four times now and just done across country trip and it's it's really beautiful. I did that for fun. I've done it for a while. Moved across the country twice. And then i did it for fun the first time i did it i did it for fun and it was. It was awesome. I how how. What's the longest stretch that you would be in in a car or hours. I think is like the longest. I've done yeah so that's why I drove to chicago this past year from new york and it was around thirteen hours and like i won. That was one day. And i never want to do that ever again. So the fact that you did that and then continued on first of all but then did it. Three more times. I john or sand. I mean it's one thing if you're moving if you have to be somewhere if you have to be somewhere then you're like okay. I'm just going to bite the bullet and get through this. But obviously if you're just going to see the country it's a totally different thing and you can stop and you can enjoy places right but i've noticed when you're traveling by car there is always something that is like holding you back to the car even when you're out of it and you're trying to explore the place that iran there's this sense of like we gotta keep going so it's not a very. It seems like a relaxing way to travel. But it's really not know. I hated it so much. Yeah yeah i also did in the midst of like that was the safest way of traveling in the last year. The least exposure to people so every time i did have to stop. It wasn't like oh let me let me explore the spot. It was like every person is a potential threat..
