"Was a beautiful rendition of that. Thank you, Becky Roseanna, Sporty yellow is at the piano. Dan Barrett on trombone. It's funny how some of the most beautiful Christmas songs or the sad ones. Yes, it is a sad song, but that's part of the bittersweet pathos of the season. Becky's Chris was a good time for a singer. Do you look forward to having to sing all the Christmas? I'm sure you get to bring out your old friends from the previous last year songs that you haven't had a chance to sing all year and people really resonate with them. So it's It's a lot of fun. I'd like to really just go around the room for a second and ask you all to name a song that you really love from Christmas and a song that you were really tired of, or you think it's really musically trite and you wish it would be Put aside for a good many years. Dan, you want to start Well, I guess my favorite would be O little town of Bethlehem. I remember when I was first starting to play trombone and my friends and I would get together and play all of the old traditional Christmas carols with a brass choir. Walking around the neighborhood, and that was a particular favorite of mine little town of Bethlehem. I'm not sure that I have any least favorites because when Christmas comes around, I kind of like all of the songs I get sentimental. In fact, I'm so sentimental I even like the Chipmunk song. Arizona. Did you hear a lot of these songs in Italy? Yes, but you know, I'm sorry for Rebecca. But I should say that my favorite Christmas song is just Jingle bells, you know, because I'm a fan of Fats Waller and the Iraq or the death plane That's tried. Fantastic. You know how true that's why Thank you Do have a favorite song. And when you'd like to see retired I'm going to plead the fifth because I think it's ah, it's incumbent upon the musician to make what they can out of a song. You know, we've already done Have yourself a Merry little Christmas. I think that's just about my favorite. But I'll just let the others fall where they may. Okay. Well, I promised our listeners some songs that they probably are not familiar with. So, um, you've got another 11 that Bessie Smith recorded. Yes, 1925 Early Bessie Smith. It was Ah Guess that quite a hit for her. It's called at the Christmas Mall. One. Two. 123 Christmas comes but once see onto me. It breathes good cheese and to everyone who likes wine and be forever. Happy. New Year is after that happy I mean, that is a fact. That is why I like Tonto. Folks who say that Christmas is here, Uh, Christmas Bells will ring Wilson even in the afternoon. Have your finer one man Keep on dancing right now, and there's no one to far. Don't you dare to stop If your father no name fame? Don't worry. There's more over there taking a chance everywhere at the Christmas box. That's a great song. Thanks for doing that a song From what 1925. "82 89 another full two hours for you in our number two. By the way, just a little promotion. For what? We're coming up in our number two. We're gonna be talking about the problems of the restaurant industry. I mean, there's just hundreds of millions of dollars are being launched throughout the country by small and large people in the restaurant business. We're gonna talk about that in our number two, including an effort. In the House and the Senate to provide $120 billion in support for America's restaurants. But again, I want to begin with our first guests, and they are Richard Boykin, who is a longtime Democrat guest on this program. Roseanna Pelino joins us. She's very active in the illegal immigration effort. And also we welcome conservative commentator. Ah, Chris Roebling. They all join us tonight. And I want to throw this up and I'm gonna let you respond to this first. Roseanna last evening in Washington, D C. There were demonstrators in support of the president, and they engaged, according to the published reports, or they returned engagement from of those on the left in the United States. And both were out there protesting. They were both out except exercising their rights. And yet the violence broke out and again. My question to you is. Do you expect this to continue as long as it is debatable, whether or not Joe Biden was elected fairly and squarely as president of the United States. Absolutely. And I believe that once you know, we really haven't seen Well other than Portland theme the riots going on like they were, but I believe if Donald Trump comes out victorious. Every major city in the United States is going to be burned down by these protesters. I really believe if if that is the case And that's the result of your of your preamble. There was if Donald Trump is determined president knighted states, and most indications are that he's not going to be German, his present United States, so my question to you is, if that reality stands You still think there's going to be violence in the streets as protests erupt? On the other side or the trump side. Are you saying that if Joe Biden is successful in still in the election, there's not gonna be any rights in the street because I believe they're all democratically, Lud. Cassie. No, Here's my question. If Joe Biden is the president of the United States are those who are on your side of this issue who have expressed have been involved in some violence in the past. I'm not saying who started it? You think that mood in the country is going to continue by people who were very upset because they believe as you do that this election was stolen? No, that's I don't believe that's our way because it could have been going on right now, because of all the inconsistencies that we see in the election. And the fraud and the errors coming up, right? I'm going to let you elaborate on that. But I do want to bring in Chris Robot don't want to go to you. Same question to you what we saw last night in Washington again. Based on some reports, they certainly singled out the proud boys and clearly described them as a right of center group. Supporting Donald Trump. And then they described the others as in a dressed in black. They didn't say Antifa. They didn't put a name on them. But they all said they were dressed in black, which at least according to you know, the political fashion statements of the year of those that have addressed to show up for these events are tend to be a member of anti fall, though that was not mentioned last night. So my question to you is can we have a disagreement a peaceful disagreement in the country over the results of the election? And or do you think that what happened last night is likely to happen again. Well, I think that we can have a peaceful disagreement. Like suppose I'll disagree with my friend Richard here peacefully, but I do also think it can happen again. I think what's interesting about yesterday? And I think that this bears up after you study the arc of these disturbances, these riots that have taken place Presents Memorial Day weekend. Very sadly, Um, is that When Republicans or Trump supporters or folks who do not adhere. To the establishment left this line. Are out and about They get attacked. They get attacked in Washington. This is the third time we've had these attacks. There was the night that the president nominated Amy Cockney Barrack. And the folks who left from that on the South Lawn of the White House, just trying to get back to their house hotels. They were attempt. Then we had the big Trump rally shortly after the election or shortly before, whatever that was. And Folks whose lingered late in downtown D. C. Where I lived for 11 years. Love it very much. They were attacked by anti her people. They were attacked by Other slugs of the left. So it is your It is your position. I just cause and then I want to bring Richard in. It's your position that the vast majority if not all of the violence over the last year, but let's focus on last night. It really comes from the left against Peaceful protesters allegedly peaceful protesters on the right, including the proud boys. Is that your position? I really don't know about the problems and I don't believe the national media about a gosh darn if they told me the sun rises over Lake Michigan, I wouldn't believe you. Well, I'm putting that context. I understand that their name is being thrown around. But I don't know that they were there. And just because the national media says it doesn't mean that Okay, let's go. What are you going to say? Is this Let's no, I wanna go to Richard Boykin. I want to engage everybody, and then we'll go back to you for a second, helping Go ahead. A Richard your reaction on what happened specifically last night in the streets and and and as long as Ah, large portion of Americans feel that this election might have been stolen. Are we likely to see this type of demonstrations and that bruise into violence in the country? Us A. Sure hope not. Bruce Side look. You know the election results are what they are, and obviously the Supreme Court. Has declined to take this case that Texas brought. I mean, the theory about which they brought. It was kind of weird. But the election is going to be certified through the electoral college tomorrow. On Joe Biden will be declared the winner of this election. Now it is my hope that we can all come together. Democrats, Republicans, independents, all of us. As we fight this pandemic that's in front of us. This covert 19. I mean, we need everybody on board.

"Was God and by the way, if people are fans of Garry Shandling as I was, this is terrific documentary. It's on HBO on demand, and I'm sure it's elsewhere that you're actually in directed by Judd Apatow, focusing on Garry Shandling's life and creates really well done, But we're doing with Alan Zweibel, his book, his laugh lines, my life, helping Funny people be funnier. Tell me how you helped Gilda Radner humiliate Woody Allen. How? I hope what? I'm sorry for how you helped Gilda Radner humiliate Woody Allen. Yes, Gilda and I had a very unusual, very extension relationship, which was surely professional. Not because I wanted it to be that way. OK way. We know everything that I had when we were working together. It was probably a sublimation of what I wanted the relationship today. So we wrote this character together. Call Roseanna Roseanna Danna. And it usually ended up with the two of us not speaking to each other. I would be a ball night the night before trying to put together whatever notes she had given me, whatever she had had leftover dinner. Then she would go out on a day that she'd go to studio 54 idea all night trying to put this thing together and With the process of rewriting during the course of of show day By the time she did it on the air. We were just It was too pencil and we just weren't talking. We were mad at each other. Okay, we were misbehaving. And it's one Sunday morning. There was a brunch over a woman named Body vote, right. She used to have these brunches and of parties with AA. Lot of the attendees was a real eclectic bunch of people like, you know, do it be the SNL people, But I also feel like you know Al Pacino in that Diane Keaton. You know the core Leoncio here, okay? Because the clusters of people Build it. And I just like any quote unquote couple, if you if you were angry each other and you made the other one laughed while the fight was over, Okay, you were on the same ground and such this all of you will last thing Gilda wanted to make up. I was such a child. There was such a baby I needed To be angry longer. So we were at this party and the apartment was one of those apartments where I guess it was a pre war building. You walk in on one level, and then it is a step down into the living room, okay, and on the upper level was a big book say of Brunch things for Sunday bagels, lox, You know all those kinds of things. You have it brunch. Of Gilda was trying to make eye contact with me and trying to make me laugh. She was on the upper step. I was down one below in the living room, and every time I look at her direction, she would make us say she would do something to make me laugh of the fight would be over. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. Me being such a child. We Allen, who was at that brunch was walking from the buffet table and he had two cups of coffee. A cup of coffee in each hand on there is Chin. He had, like a plate with things on it. You know, he was sort of loaded down. Sure. With brunch Road. Young girl went up to him and said, Listen, Woody, and he has no idea who she was. He says. Why del? I won't say what she called may safely say He's acting like an idiot. Okay, and he didn't have any idea who I was either obvious. I've got to make him laugh. And I'm looking now I'm just wondering what she's gonna do with him. She took him by each shoulder and throw him down the one step to the living room. So anything that he was holding brunch wise all that food one fly on my guards through So whatever, Of course I left. The fight was over. And, um, you know, as we were leaving the grudge, he was sitting there the door..

"Hi. It's my only am I talking to you today? You are going on in five seconds, but it she's on air right now. Don't do that to her. You're right. What you got Roseanna High. I have got a river birch tree in the back of my behind my house, and it's like the multiple trunk. And it's dying from the top down and it's over 10 years old and Ah, can I trim that? Yes, it's kind of funny because when I saw River Birch something and okay, iron closest, some leaves were getting yellow. But, ah, years is a little different. It's just the top and everything else is healthy. Yeah. Yeah, And it's been there over 10 years. So I would make sure that your watering that during dry periods and I I say that because I know a lot of areas some are still dry, where other airs about a bunch of rain. But when something is dying on the very top like that, It's sometimes Khun B. Moisture. And then I would also make sure that you don't and I don't know a river birch wood girdle or not, I guess it would. But I would kind of pull the Pull the mulch back and make sure there's not a route that's going around the trunk. But to answer your question. Yes, you khun prune that any time that you would like, but I would just be a little Little wondering of what's happened because River Birch generally the main problem is they get yellow leaves during the middle of the season, and they're usually you have to put iron ID or something around it because they get iron closest. So Money. I saw that. I thought I knew the answer. But I hear you. You threw a curveball at me. Hey, Roseanna, Thanks for the call. We appreciate would come up against clock here. "On their game. The referee the referees, the umpires made another mistake last night. They didn't make a mistake there. Make a mistake. What happened so Thehe White Sox scored five runs in the first inning. Yeah, right. There were two outs. Yu Darvish. Was laboring through that first inning. After two outs. They just said inning over Let's go to the second really on the White Sox were okay with that. Sure. 29 pitches thrown by Yu Darvish in the first inning, and they agreed. This isn't about piling up massive pitch counts. It's about getting ready. Absolutely. The season's about piling up Grand slams. I mean, if I'm the White Sox, I know this doesn't matter. But we want our reps at the plate and we liked the feeling we get when we hit the ball. I think both teams want to kind of keep things moving right along. Yeah, Guess sounds like little league with a slaughter rule There was I mean, I remember coaching Coaching. Our kids get to go through the lineup once and then the ending was OK. And then you brought the other like, please end it, please. Or the rule that said, What was it? You just go station to station for the runners so fair, A team was beating the other team so badly, even if you hit it to the fence, you would tell your kid you stopped at first and then you don't steal second on a passed ball with the White Sox do that for the Cubs yesterday, too. No, the old hated, but but, I mean, it really was one big hit, though, So it wasn't like they were where they're running on him. Start to finish. One beginning really? Does one begin and the score after that, But for that home run, we missed the game. If you will. I mean, that could have happened the other way, too. So again. This is not White Sox radio gloating in the Cubs. Expensive Got Cubs fans all around town have salute. Frankly, I sleep with a Cubs fan and my sons are Cubs fans and Daisy. The dizzy, dappled oxen likes the Cubs she comes from. She's a Cubs fan can't seem to convert her. She doesn't seem to realize that I buy the chicken and I'm on the White Sox station. "Life where you know money is working for you. And you're not working for money. But, you know, is it still possible we talked about Careers and getting into the you know your your vocation. Whatever your vocation is to earn money, Of course, then once you get that Then you get into OK, so people get in there. First Jobs let they typically end up doing getting into a ton of debt. Get overwhelmed. They don't realize that they may pay for things. You buy something and you buy it on credit. You might pay for it twice you made made for three times, depending on what the interest rate is. It could be a really bad Solution. Tio Getting the American dream is going out there and getting it based in getting out of credit. I remember there was an old song, Get it on credit. And, you know that was the big thing in the 19 seventies, all credit cards. Yeah. Wow, This is really great. And then all of a sudden people became enslaved to this stuff. And then they would buy cars. They get the car that they really wanted the car of their dreams. And you know what The reality of it is. When we look at our vacations, we talked about how you might talk about a vacation decades into the future. The things that you do, but the reality of it is the Saying when you get to the cars in the houses and all that material things You forget about those After you get up. You don't really think about how much they become old. They become data they become worn out, and they don't make you happening more Not too long after you've gotten scientifically and and then it's on to the next thing is, and it's just a trap that we fall into so often, don't you? Don't you ladies find that that's so true with people. In your hands. Yeah, And in fact, there was a there was a survey that just came out from bankrate dot com. American's biggest financial regret. Is not saving enough before the Corona virus yet. Yeah, so they so they were saying their biggest regret was not heavy. An emergency fund. I mean, that emergency fund issue is so fundamental. What I don't think people really considered how important it is, until we had this Corona virus thing and all of a sudden You know, people can't work and people can't go out and You know, it is so much pressure off when you have that. Sitting there. Exactly exactly. That's why you need the help of a financial adviser. So that you are gonna have Uh, emergency fund. I got a lot never in my career that I got a lot of text a lot of emails. Thank you. Thank you. She always made sure that they did that. Yeah. You've always done that with people. Arlene. That's that's one of your big things. Yeah. I love you. I always love your 10 10 10 You know, Tell Tell me what that is. Because it works and and I and that I always tell my son, you know you you live beyond below your means. So you only you only spend 70% on then you get 10% to your savings. That was your emergency fund and or Short term goals and then 10% to your at least 10%. In your retirement and then 10% you have to give back. You really have to give back. That is that is a key giving back What you think about some of the stories that we're hearing right now with people that are struggling and use what they've got there close to businesses down there. There's been a there's been a lot of struggles and the Depression and the anxiety and the People get to the point where they don't think anything's it's ever going to get better. And they're in a financial struggle, and then that adds to the stress, it adds to the depression. And so much of that could be alleviated by He could have been alleviated if people had actually set themselves up for savings. And you know what? I can't do anything about that now? No, You're right. You can't do anything about it now. But you know what? This isn't the only crisis that will ever happen. You know, when I look back on my life, I you don't know. It seems like every every few years there's something else like we're joking about earlier. Roseanna Roseanna Roseanna Roseanna Donna from Saturday Night Live, saying, it's always something. There will be another crisis that comes down the road. Maybe you didn't get it right this time. Maybe you didn't have enough savings. Maybe you didn't have enough emergency money set aside. But there's always a future. You can't fix the past. But you can always fix what you do from now on. And now is the time to go. And if you're getting back on your feet again, If you're still struggling, you know if there are people out there that are still out of work. Well, maybe now's not the time. You're just trying to get yourself back on your feet, but as soon as you possibly can Think that Arlene That's great advice 10 10 and 10 name yet, So it's a great sous, simple formula 10% of what you're in income is goes towards savings. You know, 10% is toward your retirement savings. Then hopefully, if you work for a company that has an employer match, you got some money game being kicked in there. With your 41 k. And then you got 10% going giving, and I never forget a guy that I work for. My income was next to nothing. And we would talk about, you know, giving and he and I was talking about giving the church and he goes. Oh, I just can't afford it. I can't afford this, and he goes his Paul look. He says. I've always done it somehow. It's always worked out some house. I can explain to you why it's always worked out, but it's always worked out and I on faith. I just said Okay, I'm going to do that. And I've always done it and it's always worked out. So I think that's really good advice, Arlene right there. So saving for the future as a big deal and then saving your emergency money into what Typically, What do you choose is a vehicle And how do you How do you typically do that are like, for example, For May. It was always a bank draft. I would bank draft into a savings account. I would set up the savings out and I would make it a bill. Do you guys do anything different than that? Or is that typically how you do it? I do that every month. I'll just move. I just When I do my bills, they automatically move some in savings. So I mean, it was like a bill for you. It's like a bill for you and Arlene. Anything different? Yeah, the same thing. But I also have, like a habit of whatever money I have. I put it in different persists or or you know, and then I realized I really, really purses. I mean physical purses, or are you just talking about figuratively talking about like different accounts? Well, you know, that's one thing but additional, You know, sometimes used you. You buy something and you save money. You know, I put it aside. In one of jars or A purse. So you do you do actually not none too safe for anything Like what It is. What happened the savings again? I'll idea. I think I like that idea. Event savings. My mother used to do that. That was funny. She was his biggest. She had a little area and all these kids knew where it wass just the flick of the hand. But then physically as well, it's like, kinda like Like driving at a a manual transmission car that's above, But that's your envelope system, I guess because it is a Dave Ramsey has the envelope system use use jars. Well, you still I stroll our change in a jar, and then every I don't know. So often You take it into the bank and you have 100 bucks or whatever, so that it was me with my change. That's what I always did with change. I would build it up and I would have a big old thing had changed and bring it in. Good stuff. Make it a game, don't you? Then that Yeah, That's that's good. So do you have different savings cast? You do typically have a bank draft into the savings counter? Because that's what I always liked. I always liked making it a check. And I would have bank draft into various investments savings vehicles. And you guys do that. Yeah. Okay. I'm just curious because to me it's It's really simple because you know what happens is, if it's it's it's like, I don't know choice with that. You just click online from those things from your bag it I guess it's easy now is and I am so old fashioned. I was even thinking about that. You are so right, Arlene. Yeah. You just go and click and move it over. Yeah. Uh, that's why that's why I like the physical aspect as well of Of saving some coins or some dollar bill that you don't use into a physical container. I think you know, it's funny..
