But at least if van noy is impressed by him, I like that. And I think the way they talk about Herbert as a team and as a coaching staff, it's like they revere Herbert. Every week you hear stuff like that guy is just he's a freak. He's amazing. It's all the stuff you want to hear if you're a great quarterback. We got a wild card entrance survey for the NFL staff gone up on the ringer and one of the questions was like, what coach has the most to prove going into this playoffs and it's unequivocally a 100% Brandon staley. You can't have these players and particularly this quarterback. Fail to make a playoffs last year. Make it this year and then lose to a 9 and a Jaguars team. You can't. I am as big of a Brandon staley defender as you'll find. We prove for the puddings and eaten. You can not have a quarterback this good and not win playoff games. So it is. They just can't beat themselves. Just don't beat yourself. Just steer the ship, note them turnovers, note them fourth and one, fourth and one and a half, where you run the full back dive, none of that shit. All right, last game. So this would violate rule number 6, never pick an underdog unless you genuinely believe that it has a chance to win. On the bright side, rule number ten, when in doubt, gravitate toward one pick that would screw over the most gamblers and experts and definitely go against the single worst game where you know, which is a Bengals tease, which I think everybody had this week. Right. Rule number 11 is don't talk yourself into a terrible QB ever for any reason. I don't think Huntley's terrible, but he's also not good. Huntley's stats are alarming. His last 7 games, they have not scored 20 points in any of the last 7 starts he's had. 1913, ten, 16, three, 17, and 13. They're 23rd offense, DB away without Lamar. They've only scored 6 touchdowns. There's a lot of reasons to think Bengals Bengals Bengals. I am concerned about two things, Ben solak. One, division rivalry, the ravens, it's just always 13 to 9, heading in the fourth quarter. Just always is. That's one. Should we be more concerned that the Bengals lost the right side of their line? Feels like that's something. Certainly not nothing. The Tyler Huntley stepping in for Lamar. And I agree that he hasn't been terrible. But one of the things we have to remember is usually when backup quarterbacks enter offenses, there are existing pieces in place to help that man. And that is not that. Huntley and brown's games serve as such a stark reminder of how much this ship is built out of Lamar. This is Lamar or busted. Greg Roman is not elevating. Even Mark Andrews, who's like good, just has his drops where you're like, dude, come on. It's the backup with you have to catch it. This is killing us. They're cut into Sean Jackson to sign Sammy Watkins. That's as dire of straits as it gets in 2022. So yeah, could Huntley have a good enough game? Yes, but like the ravens offense itself isn't enough to me like warrant any interest. What does warrant interest is this ravens defense, as you say, against the Joe burrow Bengals. Burrow has had 5 games this season with a negative EPA per drop back. So you did 5 generally bad games throwing the football. Two of them have been against the ravens. We 5, which is in your 5 to 6 week stretch of this doesn't really matter. And then in week 18, where we take team was by e-paper drop back, his second worst game of the season. And this is with Raymond's rings that Daryl warrey worley out there, just didn't even know he was still in the league and he's playing outside corner and getting mosh by Jamar chase, right? The ravens hired a new D.C. this year. Mike McDonald, he was on the staff previously, and he was the D.C. at Michigan. And they got rid of Wink Martindale, martindale was all blitz, man coverage. Joe burrow just ate that up. It alive. This year it's faked the blitz, occasionally send a blitz, drop a guy into coverage, they play a ton of zone, and they have an in roquan Smith. A player who really just ties everything together. Awesome trade. They fucking love Roxanne Smith. It is, I love the trade so much because one, I love Rogue One, he's a great player and I was in a really good defense. And he's helping so much. And two, because the nerds hated it because it was a trade for a linebacker. That's supposed to overvalue position. And then they paid him $20 million. And everybody's curious. The fact that they got a second rounder than wasted wood on Chase claypool. Brilliant. That's good. Rope one with roquan off the field. They're 30th in e-paper play aloud with him on the field there first. They're on like 15th and DVA defensively like second. I test he's awesome. He's all over the place. It's so very clear. In terms of impact, range of the field that he occupies and also critically being a rising tide being a centerpiece, him playing Mike, moves Patrick queen out of Mike and Patrick Wayne, who's fast and physical and an aggressive and has a lot of good to him. His struggles with play recognition struggles with ID struggles with the mental aspect of the game. So you put rope one in there and then it knocks Patrick queen to weak side. He's been much better so much better since Rogan's gotten there. And because you have two linebackers on the field you like, you're now playing nickel all the time, which means Kyle Hamilton, your first round pick, he's played slot corner. He has been a primary slot corner for them since the rope on trade.

"Deadline came on Tuesday. Gary was the most traits on trade deadline day in NFL history. No. Yeah, that was a, I guess it was cool. It was a lot of work for us. Said I'm all bummed out about it. I had to work. Yeah, you and I mean, whenever you and I fire a text to one another at like 1139 p.m., it's usually not a night where we're waking up the next morning, feeling refreshed. Ready to go. That is the case. But it's podcast day, so I'm also refreshed and ready to go. It'll be good. We are gonna run through the ones we have not talked about on the show yet, which actually will, oh boy, that would start with the roquan Smith deal, which we have right up top. I didn't do that intentionally. We have done this chronologically. I wanted to pair the bears deals up top, but let's start with roquan Smith going to the ravens. Which I think we can both get behind at this point. And, you know, Patrick queen is, I think, maybe moving in the right direction, but maybe not all the way there, but regardless of that, now you have just an embarrassment of speed at your linebacking core, if you're the ravens. Yes. And I understood, I understood the move. So I created as a C plus for the ravens. Only because I thought at this point you should have that. You shouldn't need to go get that. And I know that's like an unfair thing to punish the retroactively for. I also thought they it's pretty decent premium for an off ball linebacker, right? It was the second and the 5th. I mean, it's not cheap. That was my takeaway. I loved it for the bears. And I'm almost a complete opposite of everybody who's a trade grader by trade. And anyone who went to college to grade football trades. But I felt like I loved it from embarrassment perspective because this is Matt eberflus walking into the locker room and saying, all right, I'm the defensive guru. I'll figure this shit out. We gotta go get guys for Justin Fields 'cause that's not fair. Darnell Mooney and V list Jones is not constitute an offense. So we're gonna go help him out and then I'm gonna stay a little bit later and I'm gonna figure out how to replace roquan Smith. That's how I felt like it was and it did not bother me that you gain a second and then you ship it away. Because I think that Chase claypool and we'll get to that in a little bit. Well, I'll save my Chase claypool take. For right now, roquan Smith, that's a luxury that you don't need right now as the bears. You gave up what 45 points to the cowboys last week with roquan Smith. So what does that matter? At the end of the day, you need picks. This roster you need a lot a lot, a lot of not just first and second round picks, but you need a ton of midday picks 'cause you got a hit on some of these guys. Yeah, from a broad standpoint, I'm disappointed that the bears, you know, kind of tore it down to an extent. I thought it would have been cool if they just sort of hung around and played in a playoff game this year. I get what's going on here. And you know, we talked about it around draft time last year. It was like the luxury of having that ever flu is you don't necessarily need to load up with an all pro defense here. He got it done with a much less than all pro group in Indianapolis until they went and got deforest Buckner. Is Shaquille Leonard excluded there. But they can kind of figure it out defensively and yeah, I like the, I think we're both in agreement here. I really like the Chase claypool deal. I like it for both sides. I think the Steelers are getting a reasonable return we know their history with drafting wide receivers. They seem to have another one in George pickens here. They've already signed Deontay Johnson. I don't know if you necessarily need well, let me put it this way. You have three really good receivers on the roster. And you have a really bad team. So it's probably time to move those resources elsewhere after the Steelers. And I think a second round pick is a fine return for Chase claypool. It's just sort of shitty, right? That like hanging on to Ben Roethlisberger for so long. Now makes this a sensible maneuver, right? Where it's like, well, can you pick it's not gonna be able to maximize these guys, and it's like, well, yeah, but that's your fault, you know? And it's really the owner's fault for hanging on to Ben Roethlisberger for too long. If you had a sweet, ready to go quarterback right now, we'd all be saying, oh my God, they have Chase claypool in George pickens and Deontay Johnson. Like, what an amazing receiving core. Now instead, it's like, ah, we got a lot of guys and just, you know, we got a lot of, what's the analogy here? I was thinking something like, you know, we got a lot of soon to expire, ripe fruit, but no blender to make a smoothie. No? All right. Yeah. Don't find that. We get a lot of taco meat, but no taco shells. And so we should just give away the taco meat, you know? You just walk over to your neighbor's house and just hand it, start handing it to people. Find someone who has taco shells, let them do what they want with the meat. Yeah, yeah, you know, let them let them be their own meat captain. But yeah, I mean, I don't know. I loved it from the bear's perspective because, I mean, you and I talked about the idea of Chase claypool, adding something behind the line of scrimmage, which there's no doubt. Albert breer are senior NFL reporter noted that they see him in sort of an all lazard kind of player. If the blocking gets there, because Al mazar is a top 5 blocker in my mind. At least in terms of willingness. If you could get Chase claypool there, awesome. But I just think by virtue of having a pure burner that's gonna scare people, it takes one more guy out of the box. So when Justin Fields runs, there's one less guy that's gonna tackle him. I mean, this is all math at this point. And if even if you had Chase claypool run a go route on every single play, he's more valuable than having a guy where people aren't really worried about him, you know? So I think it's a good thing. No, I think that makes a lot of sense. I'm with you. He is not an Allen lazard caliber blocker. However, he's so much more dynamic with the ball in his hands than lazard is. And it just gives you, it gives you some options. He can do a lot of things that Darnell Mooney can not. And that's really, that's what you're building around for receiving core right now. And, you know, it was Darnell Mooney and kind of some dudes villa Jones has had some moments, but you know, Chase claypool was just better. He's a better long-term prospect. And reportedly the packers, correct? We're in on claypool as well, but couldn't match the asking price of the bears had. Which was giving up. And we should be clear on this because I think a few people had it wrong and then we echoed the wrongness on our Internet website. It is the bears second round pick going to Pittsburgh, as opposed to the one they got from the ravens. Because they had to give up the better second round pick or what's projected to be the better second round pick. Yes. That was a falsehood I perpetrated on the Internet. Yeah. I mean, man. Well, I'll say this when Elon takes my blue check mark away. I'm probably not getting it back. And that's fine. I'm so done. I'm so ready to be done. God, it's gonna be great. Oh, Elon. What a plan he's got for this for this thing that he bought for a lot of money. Let's move on to this one's fascinating for a number of reasons. Bradley Chubb goes to the dolphins from Denver. It is the first round pick that is owned by the forty-niners, so you would presume probably something in the bottom third of the first round. Also, chase Edmonds goes to Denver and the dolphins pick up corrected if I'm wrong. No, they also sent a fourth round pick. Hang on, no. Shit. Keep rolling Gary. You got this. I've never sworn on this podcast. The dolphins get chub and a 2024 fourth rounder. Right? They give up, chase Edmonds and the forty-niners first round pick. Correct. Man, that's why it's fascinating to me. I just couldn't figure out what was actually being traded. A lot of moving parts.

"I don't trust the two thing. I really just watched it in the last couple of weeks. I think there have been really careful about making sure he doesn't get hit. And there's going to be a game, maybe it'll be San Francisco in a couple of weeks, whatever, but somebody's going to try to really rough him up and see how it goes. I agree. That's my concern as well. I view had told me you got me in a room with three people and I was the biggest tua defender in the room, man. I know. I believed you. But here I am. I tell the NFL season gets you. Well, shit, when people play the Lions, everybody looks like an all pro after that game, right? I mean, he was like Alabama again. Guys were wide open by 7 yards. So we have they also got Jeff Wilson, who I think is good. I thought that was a sneaky one for them. They're just grabbing niners, things over again. So going through the rest of the big trades. The ravens getting roquan Smith, which happened a while ago, where you given a second for a linebacker, which I would say is one of the most disposable positions, like if you're just talking from a team building standpoint, linebacker tight end, guard, like those are ones, but you make that kind of trade when you feel like you're not that far away. Do we feel like Baltimore, not that far away? Because their offense has been pretty disjointed. It seems like it's this tug of war between this weird Roman offense that doesn't work. And then over and over again, Lamar having to either salvage it in the second half or audible, whatever. Do you feel like they're close? Yeah, solex higher on them than I am. I think I'm not putting them in that chiefs bills here. I'm kind of with you. What do they hang their hat on? The ravens. Like, what's the one thing? Yeah, that they do that other teams are like, oh my gosh, this is going to be a disaster. Now, they're offense statistically, has been very good, but we've all watched it. There's been stretches where you go, that offense certainly looks stoppable. You force them to pass, they don't have a lot of firepower on the outside, Rashad Bateman is not in there. So I was on the fence with that trade. Like if you told me, hey, roquan Smith is going to be their linebacker for the next like 8 to ten years and just be the face of that defense and be awesome. I could say I could absolutely see that in that Raven scheme. On the other hand, it goes back to the chuck discussion. You're going to have to pay roque Juan Smith and that's 19 $1 million top of the linebacker market for an off ball linebacker. When, by the way, you still got to sign that quarterback to over $46 million a year floor, by the way, 46 million is the floor. The Kyler Murray contract. So I'm not sure I would have invested. I don't think push come to shove. I would have said no, I'm not doing that deal if I'm the ravens because you're giving up a second and a 5th. It's not crazy draft capital, but it's not nothing. You're going to need to build depth on the roster. And I don't buy that, I think it might be a little more challenging than people think for roquefort Smith to come in and all of a sudden just be a part of that defense and be awesome right away and be a game changer. So I think he's definitely an upgrade for them. Again, if I'm a ravens fan, I'm probably excited about it. Yeah, give me a 26 year old really fun, really good off ball linebacker, but I don't think I would have invested my resources there given what he's going to cost to keep him long term. Ben, you feel like this could have gone two ways with the bills. Where they're like the guy in fantasy who's so far ahead, nobody else wants to trade because they're like screw it. He's going to win anyway, which is kind of how I feel about buffalo and unless I'm Kansas City. But I don't feel like Baltimore is wired that way. I think Baltimore feels like we get to December, January, scoring is going to slow down. We have Justin Tucker. We have the infrastructure. We know how to win these tight games. And let's be honest, like buffalo and tight games over the years. Despite how awesome they've been, I still kind of want to see them pull out a couple close ones. January. So I can kind of see it from their perspective, but I don't like the way they I don't love the way they look. Yeah, so I think a lot of what Baltimore changed this past off season was with that vision in mind of playing a January game against mahomes and against Allen. Because the book on these quarterbacks is you can't blitz them. You can not give them less than 7 guys in coverage. Allen and mahomes will just kill you if you try. They're X defensive coordinator Don Mike martindale. All he does is but he's a good D.C.. He's been great for the Giants, but it was okay. We can't build around this identity because when we run into the elite quarterbacks in our conference, this is the one thing they beat. So you go and you get Mike McDonald, they don't blitz nearly as much to kind of bluff the Woods and they drop out of it. And it's been a difficult odd transition process. It's been growing pains every week to get like a little bit better and they kind of figure out what they like and what they don't like. They're getting replacements, they're getting help. David ajabo, who's their second round pick an edge rusher, healthy, hoping to come back, tie a spouse or whose other outside linebacker for them, healthy, hoping to come back. So they're getting some resources, and I think they're improving, but there was still more that was needed. The thing about like, yeah, they traded a stack around pick and are going to have to give a major contract to Rogue One Smith. We also got to remember, Rogue One is a multiple time all pro player. He's been on the same second team all pro team in back to back seasons. I never. I think categorically, I don't mind trading a second round pick for a guy who's been in all pro multiple times I was rookie contract. Like that just to me is just like, all right. I have a general understanding of positional value. Once a guy in his second year is to decide by his peers is like the third best lineback in the league. This is a talent I want to invest in. I want to look at, right? And the other thing is with the way they're offense works, it's not like a big investment at wide receiver is something that they're seeing coming down the mountain, right? Like the shield brings up, I don't know if they should put their resources here at linebacker spot. Will they put a ton of resources into edge rusher? OFA OA, David ojabo, right? They have these guys here. They've put their resources into Lamar. They have their resources at corner. I could have seen, I would have liked more investment at corner. That would have been okay with what they have their investment at corner. They have their investment in tackle. Because of the offense they run under Lamar, it's not like they should go get a third receiver. They should go get a better one, but there were never going to. That's not the way they've decided to run things. So the position that's left is linebacker. Patrick Queen has been a liability for them. They don't have a good coverage linebacker who makes this split safety stuff work. I get why they ended up here, even though I think getting a Marcus Peter's replacement would have been smarter. I think getting a legitimate third wide receiver, especially with Rashad Bateman's health issues, would have been smarter. I can understand how they arrived here, where they were like, multiple all pro linebacker roquan Smith, 25 years old is available, and we feel good about the rest of our roster. Let's make the move. "They're coming off, they beat Pittsburgh 16 to ten. A game that really of Kenny Pickett makes one throw, Pittsburgh might have actually stolen that game. And then they beat the trip by four, and I know you guys know all the numbers and stats from that game, but I mean, Detroit's one of the worst defenses in the last couple of years. Hill was open where there was no lions around him on the TV when he was open. Like that kind of open. And I just wondered, are you overreacting because you're coming off like you barely beat the Lions? Now they have Chicago and Cleveland coming up as their next to buy week, then Houston. And then it gets harder after that. But I don't know. When you throw in the fact that two is one more hit away from not playing again this season. It felt pretty risky to me. I'm with you, I'm with you, shale. I don't think this closes the gap with buffalo and Kansas City, but if they can sign chub to an extension, and you put you put him and Phillips together at the chub's 26 Phillips is 23. Yeah. And that's what you're just going forward with those two guys. I like that long term. And the other thing is, you know, some organizations, you look at a move like this and you're like, they deserve the benefit of the doubt. Okay, they're going for it. The dolphins changed their mind on what they want to be every three months. They're tampering on boats with Tom Brady and Sean Payton and they're firing Brian Flores. I mean, they'd like to, then they're trying to trade for deshaun Watson. I mean, they changed their mind on who they think they are. Every three months. And so I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt in this situation. Now, if you're a fan, I don't like going overboard with this because if I'm like a dolphins fan right now, I'm just like, cool. I'm excited. Our team has been irrelevant. We've sucked. Now we have a fun offense for the most part. We made a big trade for a pass rusher. Let's go have fun and have a fun 2022 season and think about the rest after that. So I think there's two sides of it. But yeah, he's not going to be cheap. I mean, he will probably command I would say 18 to $20 million per year for Bradley chob if you're going to sign him to an extension. And if he has the leverage, it could even go north of that. Well, Ben, we like buffalo more than Miami. Yep. Would you say you like Kansas City more than Miami? 'cause I would. Baltimore with roquan Smith. I think I like them more. So there's three. Now we're moving into Tennessee is going to win the AFC south just because variable can obviously just take a pop Warner team and go 9 and 8 division. I don't like them more than Tennessee. Probably like them now that the Bengals, they lose one of their best cornerbacks today. Their defense is getting racked, burrows taking a shit load of hits. You can't be pulling your eggs in that basket. So yeah, that and then they've got linebacker problems, which Fangio defenses live with good linebackers. Navarro Bowman and Patrick Wilson, San Francisco, roquan Smith, and Chicago, Denver is no linebackers right now. So they can't get the job done up front. They're not a good defense currently. And so I like fans. I think Fanta is good coach. I don't know if he holds this job the rest of the way. Because you got to know what three bites fruit and they just haven't produced wins. And I think Wilson's going to get better across the course of the year. Don't get it twisted. Wilson's been straight bad. So there's nowhere else to go, but up, but also it's adjusting to NFL speed. And then also on the other side of that coin, rookie quarterbacks, Justin Fields with the bears, his box wars don't look good, but you put on the film and he could play. He's making NFL throws. He's aggressive. Talk about Mac take and hits. He takes a lot of hits, but feels a big boy, so he bounces back up really quick and he plays a physical brand of football. And then that defense didn't look good coming into the year. Robert Quinn's plan outside of his mind, roquan Smith playing outside of his mind, Sean decides the D.C. there. He's a young guy, gets that team amped up. They play very, very fast. And then that secondary is young, but again, they're aggressive, and they tackle and they do the little stuff. They're clearly a very high energy group. So Chicago, I know they didn't cover against the packers, but they continue to take the under on them because that defense is playing really well and that often slows the game. They run the ball a lot. They take time off the clock and fields can make some critical third down throws. So I've had Chicago as a dog the past couple of weeks and it's done well for me. They continue to impress just as a team that shows up and fights every single week. I'm with you on the bears and sound I talked about fields on Sunday Night. Basically the opposite of what you said about Trey Lance, how he seems frantic and the game's going too fast. There's a confidence with fields that you can really feel. Like he's there's a calmness to him that I think at that position. Might be the most important shade. I think Mac has it too. Yeah. If they're just grounded in the moment and they're very confident in themselves and you can really feel it. Yeah, it's boys. And you got out, you don't. You don't develop it, you don't find it, you don't uncover it, you don't grow it, you have it or you don't. And trubisky, trubisky never had it. It's immediately had it. Yeah, and the thing with fields is sometimes two boys. Sometimes, get out of the pocket, throw it away. Live to fight another down, but he is tough as nails. And yeah, he's extremely comfortable. And that's what it is with Mac, right? Like Mac is so comfortable. It means I have to take a hit, if it means I have to adjust in the pocket, take a check down, I'll take whatever you give me, but I'm comfortable I'm confident what I'm doing. So yeah, fields to me has been the most impressive rookie through 5 weeks. And again, I know the box four don't reflect that. But you see him make some just tight window throws like Darnell freaking Mooney. And you're like, yeah, we gotta build around this guy. This guy's for real. Plus with his coaching staff, it's even more impressive. I mean, Nikki wrote about that for the ringer, but like, yeah, it would be it would be cool if they got some of that to take advantage of them. They took the ball away a bunch of times a second half four takeaways. Overall at one point they intercepted three consecutive. Joe borough passes. One of them was a pick six. This is how the bears have to win football games. If they are going to threaten anyone in the nfc roquan smith had one of the picks and you know tremendous performance so there are definitely you know. A lot is riding on the defense because they started the season. With andy dalton. Andy dalton gets injured in this game. And now it's just fields time. Which was a decision matinee. Gi was obviously putting off so now he can focus on fields but to this point. It's been sort of this while we're going to stick with dalton until an undated point in the future when fields will play well fields in in in the middle of the game which is not an ideal situation to be entering your first. Nfl regular season game For an extended period of time. Not just i snap here and there so it was a good day for the defense to be taking the ball away and to be putting points on the board and to be. You know making it a lot easier for the quarterback to win. It's it's so it's so am. I don't wanna make excuses for for matt nagy here but watching these games. It's so interesting. Because i don't know what i would do if i were him either. I mean i think of course just in fields is the player that you can do more with but on any given snap. I'm jason peters. Is i mean god. "He is going to eclipse his fantasy. Totals from last year. So let's get into the wide receivers for the bears. So i up. You got allen robinson. Alan robinson last year productive season. One hundred two receptions on one hundred fifty one targets twelve hundred fifty receiving yards and six touchdowns which led to a two hundred eleven point nine total fantasy points last year and i definitely do think that you know if he stays healthy and continues to be the consistent wide receiver that he is. He's going to have another good season. And you know. I think it's going to be a little bit frustrating in the beginning because you are gonna have some you know switch at the quarterback position at some point but i think he could still do well. With andy dalton. I think he will do well with whoever ends up. Starting for this team Later on in the season. But i think it's gonna be a little bit frustrating for some fantasy managers if the production is in what it has to be when it comes to him. If andy john is not playing well so i do think that him now Him and justin fields can definitely work. It's just in the early stages of the season. It's going to be andy dalton. And like i said i think between weeks three and four. I think that's when we'll expect justin fields to take the field. I said field twice but whatever Justin feels to take the field. Yeah so two hundred eleven point nine fantasy points. I mean this one's a tough one. I'm going to say that he is. I think he's going to be around that maybe a little bit below. I'm gonna say that. Because i do think that darnell mooney is gonna take a big step forward. And i think he's going to be more of an impact player this season. And i think that will take away. Some of the targets and receptions away from alan robinson's to say he's going to be slightly below that i think he will have another good season. And i think the touchdown totals from last year. I think that'll be around the same as well. So that's my thoughts on alan robinson. So let's get into some of the other receivers on this team. So let's go to darnell mooney so last year darnold mooney. Sixty one receptions ninety eight targets six hundred thirty one receiving yards and four touchdowns which led to him having a hundred twenty one point six fantasy points and right now he's dealing with a back issue practicing limited capacity on thursday. So yeah you still kinda questionable for week one. But i do think that he will eclipse fantasy. Totals from last year. I think he's going to be more of an impact player in this offense. And i definitely think that once justin fields takes the field saying fields twice again I think that they are going to develop a nice connection. And i think that mooney is going to become more of an impact player in this offense and i think he'll get over four touchdowns not by a lot. I think maybe you'll get like five or six somewhere around there and yeah he's going to be the number two wide receiver for the bears and now the anthony miller is gone. This opens up more opportunities for him in that regard as well so then moving onto another receiver on this team. You got shot. Perriman last year thirty receptions sixty targets five hundred five yards three touchdowns that which led to an eighty four point one fantasy total performance for last year. I mean i think he probably gets around those numbers again because again. He's probably going to be the number three wide receiver. Now obvious even injury does happen. He'll he'll play more of a role on this team. But i think between allen robinson mooney you got to rico and coming back running the football david. Montgomery you expect the tight end to take a big step forward like whole combat. I think he's going to be around his fantasy totals from a year ago. So that's what i have to say for bershad perriman. Then you also have markey's good went on. The team did not play last year so if he does play he'll be over his fantasy total so never mind with him. So let's go to the tight ends now. So you got coal combat last year forty eight fantasy points. Twenty eight receptions forty four targets two hundred forty three receiving yards two touchdowns i definitely think he will eclipse his fantasy. Totals as a young tight end that i think could be poised to have somewhat of a breakout season for the bears. Obviously jimmy graham is still there. I thought jimmy. Grandma's gonna retire after the playoff game last year against the saints. When he scored the touchdown had that one handed grab and then just walked immediately into the locker room afterwards. But he's still on the team. So i think that does affect coke a little bit and he returned to practice wednesday. He had hamstring injury. But i guess that's not too concerning. I think he is going to eclipses. Fancy told us from last year he's gonna play more prominent role in the offense as well. So then let's talk about jimmy. Graham last year. Jimmy graham had one hundred eighteen point. Six fantasy points fifty receptions seventy six targets four hundred fifty six yards and eight touchdowns. I think he's going to be below his fantasy totals from a year ago. I believe that. I feel like coal. Combat is gonna kind of take over and take away those targets away from jimmy graham. I think he's going to play a more prominent role on the bears. So i think jimmy graham though he will still be used in the red zone decent amount and i think that's what will make him. You know somewhat of a decent fantasy option. If you know if you're struggling to find a tight end. I do believe that. Coal combat is going to take targets away from him. Be the number one tight end. Jimmy grams production is going to go down as opposed to what it was a year ago. So i'm gonna say he's going to be lower than his fantasy totals from ago so now. Let's get into the bears. Defensive bears defense had eighty two fantasy points from a year ago. Three hundred fifty eight points allowed. Ten interceptions eight fumble recoveries in two touchdowns. I mean it's kinda hard to predict you know with that those kind of numbers. I mean when you look at like we talked about the lions on one of the previous shows they negative for they're going to be above that they're going to be above that the bears. I mean i. I mean i you know what i'm gonna say. They're going to be below. Because i do think that there's still kind of you know. They're not the defense that they were back in two thousand eighteen. I'm not going to say it's they're going to be reduced by a lot. But i do think that it's not going to. They're going to have another down year on defense. Now i mean they still got playmakers. They still got roquan smith. Eddie jackson they still got khalil. Mack akeem hex. But i just think that this defense is. It's still not what it once was back in two thousand eighteen and and i just think that you know they're going to give up more points. There's gonna be a few more cracks in this defense. And i think teams are going to be able to exploit that. I don't know i. I just think that you know the bears. They're going to be a defense that depending on the match up. You're gonna wanna start him and you know what maybe if justin fields comes in and provides a spark. This defense plays better. Because we've seen that happen. You know we look at the forty niners from a couple years ago in two thousand seventeen. They were awful. And then jimmy garoppolo came in and they won five straight. The defense played better so that could be something that the bears need they need to provide. The news sparked to You know make them play better and just feels could be the guy that provides that because you know what they've been dealing with playing with mitchell trubisky and nick foles now. They might actually have a quarterback that you know can galvanize them get them energized and go get them to go out there and play better and you know i think because of that their defense will be. It's going to be awful. Of course. But i don't think it's a defense that you would take as high. Were starred as much as you would back in two thousand eighteen when they were really really good. So that's my thought on the bears defense. I think they're going to be slightly below their fantasy totals from a year ago. So moving onto their kicker. You got cairo santos last year. One hundred thirty six fantasy points thirty of thirty two when it came to field goal attempts..

Devin bush is already devon white or roquan smith. And they're just like okay. You're going to get devon bush back in the history of the steelers defense at inside linebacker. Incredible it's like. I haven't seen that out of devon bush like he is a flashy player that you see with with splash plays i. I don't know if he's been particularly effective. And he's coming off of a major injury and that that is a thin position for the steelers if you wanna pick on their defense. Their defense was number one in dvd last year. It was a good defense. But they've lost a couple of people and they need devon bush To be to take a big step and people are just kind of assuming it's going to happen. It's like i got to see that happen. I mean also. I think the thin at cornerback. I'll stay in the afc north. And you know if you wanna talk about a team that could be experiencing some shortness of breath. Maybe even heart issues. If they don't get production at the pass rushing position it could be the ravens. And greg points out that you know every year it feels like they lose their number one dude and like that happened again but the now of thomas bowser pernell mcphee and jalen ferguson as their lead dudes who last year. And you know they have the rookie too. But last year those guys combined for seven six you're asking and the ravens aren't necessarily like when your rookie jumping in play as much as you normally would like. They kind of slow bake them so they're going to need help there. I also look at their backup quarterback position. If anything happens to lamar jackson i guess. Maybe it's cliche to say you worry about lamar jackson getting injured. But he's that kind of a quarterback. Your backup is trace mcsorley. Who i like is like a maybe a little gadget type player here there. But i wonder if erica who is always enacted. Gm might look for some veterans in both of those spots heading towards the end of training camp to patch that up. I think we got a glimpse of what the ravens would look like with trace mcsorley in that monday night. Game against the browns. Leaving are jackson had to run to the locker room. Thankfully he's able to overcome the quick cramps and come back in time to only individual. But you wouldn't want to be caught in that same. Feeling good when trace mcsorley was out there he did make one throw but after that pretty much bogged down browns fans. We're just were. They were feeling themselves and then and then there comes. Lamar running out of the bathroom really turned into like the game of the year in the nfl. Delay hanging out of his pants. That was not a great ending for the browns and their fans but that was great theater. That whole drama. The whole game was really. I mean if anything you could say. Now that bud dupree is not opposite him after bud. Dupree got hurt last year. His presser percentage cornyn next gen dropped by like ten percent which he was. You're the next gen guy. Last in the league in expected rushing yards per attempt which basically measures how effective their offensive line is the only team that is worse than them was the browns but the difference between the browns in them was the bras. Running backs overcame that consistently. They posted the best rushing yards over expectation in the entire. Nfl the steelers. And that was it Plus one point one five yards per attempt so the running backs were consistently exceeding expectations and doing their job to a very high degree. The steelers were at negative zero point. Zero one yards per attempt so the running effective and their offense of lime is also ineffective. So if you run back a line that looks very similar this year you add nausea harris. That's a lot to put on the shoulders of a rookie. Who does have lot of mileage on him. coming out of alabama. So i think that's gonna be a big thing to watch For the steelers this year. And how in the chances for their offense if we're carving up the afc north. I might as well plug in on the bengals here and greg. You pointed out and it makes sense. There's potential here for this offense to take a big jump now. The joe burrow. Acl situation ripped up his knee. Something fierce And it's good that he's back practicing not as and you hope he's close to the same guy there's a bit of projection here that he makes the second nearly and improves as a player of the knee cooperates. And then you have. You know you got your march as they're now You have tyler boyd. Underrated guy t higgins joe mixing running back. I don't know what to take from the joe mixing experience at this point but we know fantastically talented and he still has prime years ahead of them. The offensive line. As you point out greg maybe Maybe penny sewell would have been the guy a logical pick there but you know what there are pieces there that they that are developing at the offensive line gets better and they did bring in riley review of course there to help on that end with these weapons and boroughs potential. I'm not saying there's going to be four teams in the afc north with nine plus wins. I just think that cincinnati might moxham things up and you know the the bullies like sessile in the browns looking down and pointing and laughing at them. They might not be doing that. If this team comes together a little quickly more quickly than people anticipate. I mean a year ago. I said that. I thought zac taylor had a chance to be coach of the year. I think a lot of it comes down to the specialness taylor brings. But i don't think the bengals are a two or three win team. They they have a pretty pretty good roster on offense they should be a team that goes out and you know. They beat tennessee last year. That's the one game. I look at where i thought you. Kinda got a glimpse bad teams. Give you a little glimpse of what they can be with. Borough healthy and all that business. They lost their quarterback. The floor fell out. They've been ravaged by injuries. Really as much as any team in that division or that conference over the last couple of years. You haven't really had a chance to see what they can be. They can win eight games. I don't know if the defense is going to be worth a damn there..

Because i feel like that's the expectations for everybody. And it's a quarterback driven league. And you know you never know how next year's class is gonna look compared to this year's class. Everybody's done their study on these guys. Most of these guys have all been winners in college. See mike they're all decent guys and you know they'll their dream will come true. See i really do think though that quarterbacks get a little more overrated these days because of how important it is to try to win with a guy on a rookie deal so there are teams that you know prior to the changing of the rookie pay scale. He had one year defensive coordinator with the Ravens where they finished third in defense with Ray Lewis Ed Reed Terrell suggs and then he went to the the colts and he never really had much town to work with on defense now he's token over a defense that is almost sure to regress to the mean just because they had a sky a high turnover rate loss very few games to injury last year and cannot and fifteen percent of drives with an interception like they did last year especially especially That defense every week to make up for their offense. I felt like an if you're if you're in the situation Pagano. You're going to get blamed from their earliest part of the season. It doesn't go well. NBA Draft 2019: Latest 1st-Round Order, Predictions
"And ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mock draft out Mel kiper Jr's three point. Oh is here with us. And we are looking forward to the draft. Mel will join us in just about an hour to talk about the new mock draft. But there have been some changes in the draft specifically one less quarterback. Now going in the first round then in mel's two point oh mock draft. So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name.
