"This is Maggie gray with you eight five five two one two for CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven that is your number to call let's head to the phones first up let's head out to New York City it's dog get CBS sports radio what's going on Doug Hey how are you guys doing today missile prices but hanging in there dog how are you I know same here are you know it's it's stuff and I just want to thank you both for even you know bridging the subject I'm I'm going to ramble but I'm gonna keep it tight knowing you have a window but you know I grew up in Roosevelt Long Island neighbors with Chuck D. Eddie Murphy John Mackey behind the stop DJ on the corner and you know we were middle class largely African American community my dad was a first educator of African American descent and Hempstead he coached girls and boys championship basketball teams you guys know what my brother was a former ex executive in the central just recently bills yeah his younger brother and you know clean it saying that use Billy Donovan's includes we all played there and you know all friends and those guys are just they have big hearts they always treated us well but I'm so sad that I have to talk to my son the same way my dad who was a U. S. veteran he played on the army teams with Sam Jones the MP three on scene with him Jones told me he wanted to teach because teaching was that here in sports at that time and it's just so sad that all these years later I have to tell my fourteen year old son who's a basketball player that you're going to encounter something saying things I encountered not with the people but things that I encountered which officials at St Agnes cathedral high school man of the cloth you know nothing sexual but very derogatory manner you know and so it's just sad that we have to repeat ourselves and the thing is I was talking to Chuck the last night about this we were you know because he's a real just educated guy two degrees but obviously the group is very fiery and it's just really really didn't difficult can you see the reaction of the people it's not like you it's simple it's not a common sense that you have to understand the frustration it's like it's gonna be we now if you have four years told African Americans that they ask my dad this is personal stuff not historic books that they go over to foreign countries fight and yet come back and told you can only find roles that you can buy and let the town so I risked my life for you to tell me that I can't buy where I'd like to raise my children so you know it's frustrating it was a great guy friends of all you know I used to tell friends that came over the house that's my uncle Mr Stromberg he was Jewish guy because it was just you know the way he was able to pass through that was just great and I just it's frustrating well include doing does and and Sir what are you gonna tell your fourteen year old son you mention it I'm gonna know how and what he has to I'm going to tell women how yesterday Hades Hickel police officer ever pulled him over these are things you won't have to do but these are things that you know listen as you're pulling over take out your insurance picks up the license hello dashboard put your hands on the stadium will say yes Sir officer and if you have a phone turn it on record because now see this is happening in the US four hundred for four hundred years but four to five days with the kids but now the resolution that murders are televised televised and still it's a week you know it's I tried going over this I mean I'm friends with mark moved up two wells as well and we were talking recently it's like man this stuff well I mean let me ask you then what do you think is gonna bring about change I'm voting first of all but second of all it's gotta be a week that's where the frustration that people are literally I wouldn't do that my son wouldn't do that but burning down American cities because they feel like bandits they declined it everyone's going to stop there for now it's not going to be all watch it that's terrible for them now it's a week it's collective land and one person placed it on Instagram is the craziest thing I don't agree with told me that they said you know bombing a lot of Muslim city in Iraq sure as hell didn't bring back of nine eleven victims because someone said burns down target is not going to do anything but it's just frustration I'm at a loss for the nine eleven it's frustrating I don't know what to do I just thank you guys for being here and allow us to talk and just want to shout out my buddy Stephen Jackson with his body and Brian James and guys who I know really here standing and and fighting and you know I just want to thank you guys for bringing some real stuff and hope the NBA season starts soon old football is good and helpful farm country is it still our country it's still every collective in hoc a let them eat it and I think you bring up some of the fantastic points in and thank you for the call and and you know both those going to ask you about you know sports as a feel like it's more important less important now we can talk about that a little bit but there it seems as if the conversation though has changed with the reaction here which is that white people have to do something here if we want this to change this is not incumbent on just the African American community this is a this is like a cry for help obviously they they have been asking for help and it is fallen on deaf ears and the reason why it's not changing it is because white people aren't willing to change it that's you and me that's everyone who's listening who is not a person of color this is what we always say about women and how we hit the glass ceiling we need men women will say that there's only so much we can do we need men who are the people in power to help bring women along same thing here I mean you need white people have to get on board here and I'm glad that that is been this conversation because this is it should have been a large acknowledgement this is not this is an issue that is happening in the African American community this is not an African American issue though it is all of us all of us and I'm glad the conversation is turned to that where we can look at set of pointing the finger point the thought what am I doing and it one of my teaching my kids what am I saying to them how my framing this how will my framing you know what's going on a bike in my educating myself enough to give a backs or because you said you would I we didn't go out we we don't have the same story but at least we can be understanding of of what they're going through and and what people are going to why they're hurting so much why they are riding why there is looting taking place have an understanding and so I'm glad at least that the conversation has gone to that because we have we have the obligation we do everyone but not the African AmerisourceBergen and when I say get out there and vote I mean everybody I mean that that's really what it comes down to I mean you know you can't you know you you complain about like the officials and you sit on your hands election day and don't vote and this is nothing to do with black white whatever you know Latino it doesn't mean you have to get out their vote otherwise your voice you know is is not being heard so you know and and that's with you know the the the mayor dilantin talked about Doug reference that I mean it you know if you really you don't want to it you're upset about where the the government is going who are how you don't feel our elected officials are representing you then you get that unlocked official out I mean that's that's it and yeah and you go out and and you find another candidate you know you support that candidate and hopefully get that kind of aid into into office let's head out to let's head down in North Carolina it's Brian at CBS sports radio what's going on Brian yeah I want to say I thank you god for even broaching this topic right a lot of radio stations wouldn't even broach the topic and the the port about voting I think that I think you're you're you're overselling the voting day voting yes I'd like to get out and vote but I don't think that that changes the way that the cops treat you I don't think that it changes you being followed and and and things happening to you that don't happen to white people and and I wanna just command Maggie for your your your empathy that into what you just say it is that white people have they changed it because that's what changed back in more of the same day that's why that's why that change that's why segregation changes because the white people that are you we don't have to wait make them to get together and all collectively figure out a solution for being late we will ask you to do that we all band together black white doesn't matter what the color reason we say that it won't get him then we then we probably could have been however you know commit that crime I have moved a question yeah I would you know for example rape victims if they got together and banded together started marching uptown and then burned a few tries again and broke a few windows what's your view of our great you bet outweighed or or that's the finger at them and saying that it would help the right call it may not help their weight called but what it does is it going to where people need to be well I don't you know wholeheartedly this is a we problem it's not a you problem right to bring about the change voting is part of the process it's not the entire process but as we saw it you know three and a half years ago people complain about who got elected a president I'd states but we saw there were there were many there were many people in and get out there and vote in areas that they needed to go out there and vote right because they were not inspired by the other county and that will be in Hillary Rodham Clinton now you you look at this scenario here it's one thing to burn a couple trash cans and break a couple windows right you think it's OK if I'm if I'm in my car about pedestrian on a freeway that someone comes by way and and smashes my windows you think it's OK if I'm in a you know Portland Rochester I forget where the gentleman was last night that I get beaten for doing it having it playing no role you think that serves the right purpose no I'm not saying that I mean all right purpose it's one thing I listen I'm all for P. they're driving a protest right now in a you know there's a protest the peaceful protest going on in from the White House now Washington DC it's amazing although it is absolutely amazing it is black and white Latino it's a peaceful protest it was a March it is absolutely fantastic that's not what I'm talking about what I'm talking about it is disturbing to watch an individual get beaten down by a mob as I watched last night as he took over Twitter that to me is disturbing video I don't think that helps out the calls of trying to bring about the change we all want to see right so that's all I I also think most there is a part of it which is and I'm not saying that any of it can be ignored but there is also part of it of what do we choose to focus on do we choose to focus on the few who have who have you know hi Jack this and used it as cover two of you know to to do violent acts and to go completely to the extreme it over the edge do we choose to focus on what the messages and not lose sight of that Brill is in South Carolina second I'm I'm at home on the second yeah I'm mad this is we choose to focus on a one of our news organizations choose to focus on are we seeing more the peaceful protests are more the violent protests well but most I know what that is that's a true story or we see more of the violence we see more the peace right but we're seeing more of the violence of that is what that is what's being thrown in our face or last for five days right right but the images are of course the those are going to the book be the boats that are compelling and those are going to be the ones that keep the most viewers right there there in in the year twenty twenty with the amount of news outlets that we have with the amount of information that's out there there is no excuse for us not to be fully informed you know it is what it what's yet and if all you are is not what have you but you're not wrong hold.
