A lot of things transpired yesterday for this. You don't know. We normally record edit and publish an episode within thirty six out all in thirty six hours which is really tight turnaround, but we wanna be most up to date for you guys. We don't want to have that. We recorded nineteen months ago and then use listen to it who knows our lives are different than so. Normally it's thirty six hours, but you had a medical emergency. Did you not? I did. You know, look, it was a tough. It was a tough Monday. I won't speak for everybody is tax day. The sucks though. Just sucks. It does is sucks for both of us. It's tax day for people who don't pay their taxes in April for the. I think it's just people who wanna be very thorough. That's how I look at it. That's how I look at it. So you're on the IRS. I want to be good steward of your money and make sure you're getting every single bit you deserve and you did so congratulate you because you got it all. But I also wanted to up the ante a little bit and throw an abscessed tooth and just, you know, see, see what happens. So so are you drugged right now? Do you have a Mexican, right? He's going in your system. There's a lot of drugs going on, but I'm not. I'm not paying med drugs. I'm steroid drugs right now. That's not as fun. It's not fun, but it's fine. But we're here, we're here doing the fall movie preview. We're going to talk specific movies obviously. But before we do, we wanna do. We're going to review kind of a conversation from last year and the and the movies we thought we're going to be a winners losers are dark horses. But before we do that, we want to say it just a quick word just like help you guys just to inform a little bit like this is a time you're going to be inundated with trailers and you're going to like, I, I don't know about you or anybody else any trailer. I see it feels like the greatest movie in the world to me the music, the people's faces them staring off into the distance. I'm like, this is going to win an Oscar. I've never had this. That's exactly right. The. Only trailer I've ever seen where I was like, I think that sucks off command. That's only trailer every other trailer. And I'm like, I think that's going to win best picture and it doesn't. But that's how I feel about. So like that's misleading. That's tough that can be difficult overcome, but we wanna present just a little bit of information free to consider before making your selection of a movie because that's that's valuable time. Maybe you're paying a babysitter as a lot of money it even for me, you have depend on pants that worth it. Did you put on pants for good reason, it's better to go in knowing like at least your odds are high that there in your favor because you've done your research before you've just gone and randomly picked him. If you take anything away from the show, it's that we want to help, you know, like when it's worth it to put your pants on, you know, and that's what this episode it really. That's our life mantra. That's our life mantra here at the podcast media. So. Okay. A couple of things to consider, and we've done a versions conversation before, but it just stands to remind you some of the things to look for when you're going to see a movie in a theater like don't just go see. See something that's a good trailer like have your people have your actors that you like is it is a Brad? Pitt like me. If see, Brad, Pitt movie. Yeah, that's like a full green light. Go see that movie. If it's someone you don't know, you need to look a little further if it's not one of those two, three, four, five, six actors that you just love everything there in then look a little deeper because true. I'll say it can be it. It's not just people you love. It also can be like guess what? I don't ever see a Sienna Miller movie because I don't think she's a good actress. I don't think our agents care about her and she's off always in bad projects. So I don't go see CNN Miller. Maybe it's a way for me to determine. Should I say this note there Sienna? No. Yeah. If Sienna Miller is leading a movie that tells you it's not worth your time. No one else thinks that's worth your time. So don't see that it's not a good investment of your time. So then look a little a level deeper, go to supporting actors. If you see a good collage of supporting actors. That's usually a good sign because supporting actors. They're like the. What is the cartilage of a movie and you want enough there to cushion the narrative, right? But there's a corollary to this. There's I call it. The Goldilocks corollary. I don't want to few supporting characters. Like if you just see chaining Tatum and it much people you've never seen before. That's not great. You need a little more, but if you see Channing Tatum and like sixty other actors that you that are like big deals, that's too hot. That's to warm, right? Yes. If it's it's sixty other actors in it's all themed around a holiday. That's not a movie. You wanna see you don't wanna see New Year's Eve. You don't wanna see mother's day Valentine's. You've either singled in a Woody Allen movie, which has problematic for a whole another set of reasons, or you stumbled into what I call a beach house movie. And that each has movie is where the budget is large enough that everyone in it just did it to buy new beach house in there is a movie that I will talk about. That's clearly a beach house movie. So you don't want to spend time doing that from there. It gets. It gets a lot easier. You go director, you check their receipts. What? What if they directed? Have they ever directed before out? They have and if they have, what did they do? Did you like those movies whose probably good you see your time, then you can go screenwriter if they have written movies you like obviously spend the time there if there are three or more, be careful because listen, you don't need three or more riders to do anything. Good. Okay. You can have through more. Writers do anything bad, but they're not usually going to do a lot of good stuff. So be careful that. Yeah, now that's good. Listen, I was worried about Spiderman last year homecoming because had five writers on it. Now. It was a rare exception because the director was good. The acting was good. The supporting actors were good. And I knew it was coming for marvel. So that's also encouraging. But like I wasn't her like at some of the some comedy movies, like two of the writers credited are the original creators of the myth in the comic, right? So it's really just three. So you're still negative sweet spot. Right. Okay, good. Last one is production house or distributor? It's good. It's a little bit of a Chico to know if you see a certain distributor production house, they're generally going to have a similar static with all their movies. Like for us a twenty four, pretty much everything they do is great, but you can find your kind of distributor. If you do bloom house, like those are going to be whore based low budget. But if that's what you like, that's perfect. Other ones, Anna Purna, Amazon studios bleaker street focus. IFC FOX searchlight open road and magnolia for me any of those. I feel like they're always on a pretty good vibe, sets a clearing clearinghouse for me to start considering a movie from those. So for me, if it's made by Sony, I'm like, this is a long hill to get in. I don't know that Sony knows what they're. Doing since that hack since I E mail hack, I just think they just they're like, we don't know what we. We can't even get our computer systems. Right. How could we possibly get movies? Can't even use g mail like, how can we possibly green light a movie like this. Well, and another way that obviously we point to allot is rotten tomatoes score, so knowing because like I think you and I, we have different standards, obviously, rotten tomatoes. If you go to their website, if it's eighty percent or higher, it's considered certified fresh and then six year higher is like, it's still good. Don't worry about it. And then it's rotten if it's below that now I will forgive a lot of maybes and you because I'll be like, well, home alone only got fifty four percent. I constantly repeat that in my head here which which is so terrible because home Lunes a great film. But I also know that like three billboards got ninety two percent and I hate it three billboards. So again, it's not just one element. You can't just trust the actor or the rotten tomatoes score. You have to look at the bigger picture. Yeah, there's always that outlier because I think three billboards was one where it's just like a hate. This movie houses rated so highly spring breakers. That was another one. It was like ninety something and I hated that movie. Ashley, and I got an a. biggest fight of our relationship after seeing that movie. She's like, why did you make me watch that stupid movie. Is that the one that Selena Gomez Gomez is in James Franco's in its Selena Gomez is in it. That's a Sienna Miller movie, they that's not the movie. You wanna send. We ball. Selena Gomez. Bets being your mayors movie f. lie. I don't know if you know that. Okay. And so for somebody listening, you're like, how do you go to a lot of maybe it's like, how can you see? Because listen, we're about to outline for you a ton of movies that you're gonna wanna see us fall. How do you do it? Now we last year recommended movie, pass. We green lit. It was magical while it lasted. Unfortunately, movie pass was like, oh guys, we can't make money, and we even predicted that we were like movie pass, can't Lhasa. Let's just enjoy it while we can. And that's exactly what happened. They came back and we're like, you know, we told you, you could see a movie everyday. Well, we were just kidding. JK. You can see three movies a month, and it can only be the movies. We let you see which are only movie starring Sienna. So hope you enjoy those films and so maybe passes kind of gone by the wayside. Now I subscribed to AMC stubs A-List, witch, I love and they actually came in. It's almost like they were like, oh, no, no, maybe pass you. Go ahead. You go ahead, show south done will learn from you. And then we'll create the program. That's perfect, which is we'll let people see three movies a week will let them reserve their seats in advance. Will let them see the same film over and over again. They can see it on Macs. They can see it on three D. And I love this program. So if you have AMC use that if it's in your community, if not look at your chains of maybe theaters that are in your city and see if they have a subscription program. Because if you see more than two movies a month, it is financially worth it. 'cause I pay twenty dollars a month. And this month I will have seen probably seven movies and I pay twenty dollars for it, but so worth downy. When you look at expensive, everything is. So just to prove maybe do a little heat check that were that this is worth our opinions, Dow can you? Can you supply us with a list of our guesses and our prognostications from last year's reprieve. Okay. So last year we said for each month, like turnover and December, we said, this movie will win. This will lose, and this will be underrated what I learned in my review of this process is that you are really good at picking winners and losers. I am really good at picking underrated. Good. Okay, right. So so we cover over best. So this is perfect. We did. We are not good at the other categories that we're not gonna. So soda review in October. I said that only the brave would win. It did win by the way when the box office it did okay on Dimitrios and I actually really loved it. It was a lot of let me just be honest with you. I don't know what movie that is. Is that the white fire guys removing the white wire fighters? Yes, because they were portraying real firefighters. But that's technically why they were all white. Your your win was the Florida project. That was my underrating ways that via so good guys go watch it streaming. A lot of like platforms now would be like, emotionally ready, don't go, right. This is this is not a comedy. He's not a great showman y'all. So this stuff, it's not. We both said that the loser of October would be suburban con- congratulations to both were right. I also said geo storm would lose by off by. Yeah, so bad. And then you said now this is my favorite thing. You said that the underrated and you always qualify your categories because you're like not mean that it's going to be like the best movie. But I do think it's going to make a lot of money. And you said the underrated would be same kind of different as may told me home wrong. It made a lot of money and a lot of money. No, I think it pulled from wide release after week to you and went straight to like, oh, almost check. Check the number. You keep talking the number. You see how much big many made. So in November, we both picked Thor. Rag. Iraq as the big win. No kidding that movie. So vest was so bonkers and made so much money. You said that Roman Jay Israel would win Beckley. He did get nominated for an Oscar, so that is a good choice. And then you said, and I love that you clarified this in the episode that I'm feeling very attacked right now, honestly, well, you should do the review part of this part of the section of the fill that way you said LBJ with Woody Harrelson, but you didn't say that it would win because it would be good. You said it would win because it would be the best tire fire. Okay. I like that. I know you did and I said, Mali's game and CoCo. I'm very proud of this choices. We both said that Justice league would lose and I suggested that bad moms Christmas would lose. It did not lose money like it made so much money and murder on the Orient Express, which was awful. So I feel and you said it's awful because daisy Ridley is the number one on the call sheet, and you're right, that is exactly why it wasn't. And if. Felt like they literally pasted Leslie, oedema junior in there when they looked up and they're like, hey, we have all white people. Maybe we should not do that. Should we? Who does it make? No, anybody that's the personal call do they who do and then you're my underrated of the month was lady bird at like, killed at that. Thank you. And your underrated west three billboards outside of ebbing Missouri. I listened. I'd been banging the drum for that movie. I thought it was gonna be so great. And I was basing that off of Francis McDormand punch and that girl in the crotch. I was like, I just liked that sensibility. Well, see that scene. A lot cut to it wasn't a good movie. I don't believe so in December we, we'll do this. You'll hear us do this in this episode. We'll just say out of the gate, we knew that Star Wars would win. But I said, this is so painful for me to revisit. I said, phantom thread, and you even said in the episode, Jamie, I'm worried the synopsis is very sketchy. And you're right, that maybe is not. It was good, but it was not great and to not do well at the box office at all you said and this and this is a part. Let me premium this with you said your win. You said I will probably regret this next fall. When we review these predictions, you predicted that the win of December would be to Monchy and you were right. I don't like that. I don't like that. Oh, it's a fantastic film. I've loved it so good. It's got a little too much called. Okay. Your lease of the month was father figures which if anyone can off the top of their head, tell us what father figures is about, then your different this episode may not speak to you because it is the loser the month. It was buried in December, but ended lose. I said that the loser of the month would be the greatest showman. Look and every single word to that soundtrack. I love that movie so much. We're in a post greatest showman universe right now. So it's hard to understand. But this did look like a situation before and even when I saw it, was that good? I don't think it was. It was so much Hugh Jackman, but then he just bludgeons you into submission. It's really good. It's really could send. That's right. Yeah. Well, and the rated for December, you said two movies. You said the disaster artist, you did not know that James Franco was a Perv when you gave that prediction so that that in fairness to you movie is fine. It's fine. It's fine. Your other underrated was killing of the sacred dear. Do you stand by that? A tough, a tough life. That was the tough watch. My underrated was the shape of water, which I don't know if you know one knocker and the underrated was I Tanya. So if you're if you're thinking about this, think about what we like. You just heard about movies. We like, we don't like I would say, I'm really good. To underrated and you're really good at winner. So stop listening when we're on our off category because we're not good at. That's right because we may not be correct enough. So quick update on same kind of different as me. The budget was fifteen million. Okay. They they made six million so that's not. They still made six million, Jamie, like that's six million more than they had. They literally didn't make their budget of the film and yet it's a long tail release. Okay. It's evergreen, I think is what they say. It's gonna in. It's going to stop it starred. Like an Oscar win. MIR has lasting power as well as Renee Zellweger that was with her new face to listen. And you said in that episode you were like who has stolen Greg careers Lynch? Many, and I tried to guess Kevin Spacey. That was incorrect stuff. One I didn't even know. Yeah, but you said and you said who it was and we're going to see it this fall because Greg Kinnear is probably watching these trailers. So angry that Steve Carell. Has stole my gosh. I said that it's true. It's true. It's so true a pay. So let's get. Let's get to the first month. So October's a little bit of a cheek because we're halfway through, but we wanted to at least be able to see some of the movies before we start talking about it. So while we lead off Jamie, give me your winner of the month. Well, I think the winner in the month is a given that it's a star is born because we both loved it so much. It was a green light for you. In our last episode, I had not seen it yet, but now I have and I'm obsessed with it like I am now memorized that entire soundtrack, but I'm gonna pick my winter, which is something I haven't seen yet, but I will be saying is the hate. You get the, hey, you give is based on the book of the same name. That book is if you're not a movie goer, read this book because it is the greenest of green lights. But a man list Stemberg starring as star Carter. She is a high schooler who is going to private school, but lives in a tough neighborhood and her friend has gone down by the police. The book is so well done. And so I'm hoping that the movie translates all of that to screen so it it feels as nuances. I felt like the book did, and I'm fairy very hopeful that and I think when people see it, it'll be like, gosh, that just resonated. So I think it will win in. It'll be a long haul for the season. Are you concerned that common is problem prominently involved? Know that actually increases my competent. Interesting. You're doubling down on the communist meet common in the airport, and he's like your best friend. I met common and we had a great conversation and I love him, but I do objectively observe him. Okay. So what's your win for October? I mean, it's like SARS born. I agree, yes, I'm going to do this on speculation, and I'm saying this because of the the director drew Goddard. I'm a big fan of him. I would also because dude, listener friend of ours, friend of the show been Stafford kind of pounding the ground about this movie bad times at the El royale. Okay. I know now drew Goddard. He. He wrote s- one of my most favorite underrated you just don't talk about movies cabin in the woods. It was like a deconstruction of the horror genre, a genre, and I think it has Bradley Whitford. It's got Chris Hemsworth in like maybe the only good use outside of the war, and I'm really any doesn't have a shirt on ally doesn't ever sit on a lot and I'm interested in them revisiting that connection in this movie, I think is he the guy who can make Chris Hemsworth work as not the word I think he might be able to. Okay. Are you worried that Dakota Johnson is the leading female in this film? No. As I've said, I'm buying up all. Are you selling that Dakota? Johnsons I'm buying. I'm buying it up that sows and John Hamson this. It's not great, but on the other side, Nicole Ferman and shave Wiggham from boardwalk empire and from true detective, he's in it. So I think this this feels very kind of Shane, black Quinton, Tarantino. That's my sweet spot like I love that stuff. So right. And I will say like. In the winning arena, like a semi finalist for me was I man? I saw at this again and I did think it was really fantastic. My concern of why didn't bring it to the winters table. It's because it really didn't. It did not come in number one in the box office which I can't decide. I thought what Damian Chazelle did was create tension where like I literally, no, what happens like I know exactly what happens, but I was so drawn in. I thought it was fantastic, but I don't consider it the wind because I don't think it's going to recover from a bad opening box office. That's I don't understand because I've seen it yet, but it if feels like something's up with it or like something's not good with the movie because of the numbers, but I just don't understand. And but but part of me wonders if a stars born is hot right now and the by the time it gets Oscar season will be done with that. And everyone would be like, you know, just on second, look, I man through good. It's real good. I think you're right because I do think what's happening is people are going to the movies and it's just busy time of years. You can't go to the movies. Every single because there's geysers college football all the time. And so I think that people go, well, no, I'm gonna go see his starts born. That's a movie that I can see on a date. His guys like an in girls, but like I man and I do think people are like, I know what happens want. This is not interesting. They'd rather see Hidden Figures than this because we're like, we heard the story. We didn't hear that one are gimme gimme a loser for this month, the loser of the month really as minimum. Now on paper, you wouldn't think so because it's making so much money. But guys, this is not a good film. I felt just like the the critics fell because they were like it felt like it was a comedy, but it wasn't supposed to be. There were a lot of times that I laughed, but I was laughing at it not with and I went what's happened, what Tom hardy and Michelle Williams. You need to get out of these kind of film. That was my question me this odd. What did she do? What was her function in this movie? Was it like Tom hardy? You're so normal and cool, and I love you and then like, oh, gross, you're not Tom hardy anymore. Your venom in the center. Of it. It was a lot of her just being like ill ill. It was bad, even reside met. I was like, I'm glad you got this big budget role because you're a great actor, but y'all. Yeah. So what about you? What's your lose? This is very obvious to anyone paying attention and it's the movie hunter killer, which is just the stupidest name I've ever. It's a name I would give a movie. No, that listen. Sometimes you're just one hunter, not a killer, like you're not always both. Look, here's I'll give you another little Chicote when you know movies, stupid. When in the first twenty seconds of the trailer common says, I don't know. We need to hunter killer when they say the titular name, you've got a bad movie on your hands. And if Jerry Butler is involved in it, that's a real bad movie and listen, listen, Gerard is a poor man's the rot. Oh, not even from Scotland, a destitute, Sephardic man's the. The what this movie is is everything that's not underwater in the submarine has fallen. That's basically the premise of this movie. It's like Olympics fallen, and now we're in a submarine in the whole dry land has fallen is stupid. This is the beach house movie. I reference in the beginning because you got Jerry bowler. You got Gary Oldman who came off his Oscar winning performance to do the submarine movie with Jerry Butler thoughts and prayers to him. You got common and you got Cartolini all these people are now shopping for beach houses on the four. Oh, five. I don't know if that's where you buy beach houses in California, but I feel like everyone from California says that. So I'm assuming it's true right then that seems on brand. Perfect. Is a give me who's your darkhorse for October? Okay. So my course and look, I've never had the kind of hope in a movie that I have in this movie and it is called. Can you ever forgive me with Melissa McCarthy? So it's a drama McCarthy, stars, it's a real. It's a true story. She's real life writer, Lee Israel, who after her book stop paying the bills, she finds a new way to make. Ends meet by forging letters from literary legends. Now, what I love about this is I really liked the trailer. She has a very quiet comedy in it, and she's just like being, I think what she is good actor. She's just always in bad movies. What I love is with many of these movies because it's the fall, unlike our summer, maybe preview. A lot of these movies have premiered at film festival and they've been at Sundance or they've been at two for. And so we've are critics have already seen them, and critics are like knocking this. Maybe the park, they're like, this is the kind of movie that Melissa McCarthy is supposed to make and so interesting about it is husband drafting it? No, isn't that great? Oh, interesting. Melissa McCarthy, maybe you should see that more. I don't know. Think about it though. Maybe you shouldn't always write your own films. That's fine. Come on a my dark. Horse is beautiful boy with Steve Carell and Timothy Chalmers. I like that you picked maybe the most depressing film that's coming out in October as your darkhorse. I'll have no interest in seeing it, but like I think it's based on the book by David Sheff. It's the true story about the book is fantastic, and I won't read that book. I can swear. It's very the son. He's addicted to meth, and it's the father's journey like with the sun, trying to work through that. And some of the I think there's something really interesting about Timothy. Charlemagne, his five and see Corrales because it's like, what if we did Dan in real life, but incessant and he's addicted to meth and like you said a good movie? Yes, it is. I have no interest in seeing that movie, but that sounds like an incredible incredible movie. I will have loved the PR the PR for this movie because it's really just Steve Carell talking about what a good kid Timothy shallow maze and how. He's like, I would be proud to be his father. He is such a good and I, it's like, you're just so lovely. When an actor in their early twenties is like a good person and Steve and when Steve Carell says it, I believe them. I do I, I like this. 'cause there's another movie about curl. We'll talk about later in the fall. I'm not as I don't feel good about the world about it. Don't even I'm thrilled about, but like this specific iteration see crow, I, I'm, I like the the grid, Canir cannibalization he's done because I like what he brings to like the straight guy role because there's some different ticks vibes and everything he has when he goes back to like four year old virgin, Michael Scott, see krill. This was very hard because I think there are a lot of good movies coming out, but I do think, and I know I'm going to get some heat for this, but I do think the winner of the month will be fantastic beasts. The crimes of Grindelwald I, of course, famously have not read the Harry Potter books. I have not watched the Harry Potter me. These. I did read the first, Harry Potter big ish sort of I quit halfway through too many. So just so you know, for different that doesn't count as red. Okay. I'll tell you, I saw the fantastic beasts maybe last year, the first win and I loved it. Here's what I figured out. I need more violence unless children. I just don't need children in my movies like I want in my fantasy. I don't want like fantasy genre an fantasies period. I was gonna say, why did you qualify that? Just leave it open to interpretation. Well, I didn't want. I don't want their fan of want any children in my fantasy. Let the recommend be shown the Jamie doesn't want children in her fantasies. I think those clear we got it. Diva's Claire. Yeah. So this may be what I do love is that I think this is Johnny Depp is at his Johnny deputies and not like in a gross way, but like in a good way. Plus I just I love I weirdly high and I mean this, I, weirdly love Eddie red main. I feel like he can do no wrong. I love him so much, so him and Jude law judo blaze. Apparently somebody that's in the other Harry Potter movies, don't you do that? Don't disparage laws hotter than that old white haired guy. So I like all of this seems fantastic. I love. I think it's Alison pseudo who plays queenie gold scene and Dan Fogler, Jacob quality in these movies. They're so good. They're not. I don't know that they're cannon characters. I don't think they are, but they add, they're the good comic strip person relief to like all the serious wizard ING stuff, which is great also. So a Kravitz is in this throwing six hundred miles an hour. I know normally that would be a weakness for me because I feel like I don't think she's a good actor. I think she's the same thing in every movie she's which is perfect, which is perfect. Never change. I agree with you. I think that's going to be a big winner saw throw another one in the mix creed to with Michael Jordan. Sure. Seeing saying like that. I just don't know about a sequel for this. I loved creed. I really did. So what you're what I'm hearing you say is you don't know about Michael Jordan and Ryan Kugler together, Ryan Kugler is not directing this, so yeah, exactly right. A song as writer and assumed, but I'm fine because I do believe Michael Jordan. I do believe in Tessa Thompson, I'm worried. That they've just made Thompson like be like the, oh, don't get killed and I'm pregnant and we have a baby like I want her to have more, you know. But I believe I believe in this and she is worthy more. Do you like the concept is that he is going to go into the ring against Victor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago. On this is perfect. This is everything I want it is good. No, I do like that. But to me, there are other winners that like their couple of other movies that are coming up. I'm listening when I saw that trailer for Bahia and rhapsody before guys, this is the fall of people are going to sing to you in your movies, like there's so many movies with music in them. And so he Mian rhapsody, look. I don't know what it is about Rami Malik, but he convinces me that he is Freddie Mercury like it seems fastening. And I really don't know a lot about Queen at all. And I am curious to see the kind of their story onscreen. I also can we talk about it for a second? I'm I, I don't think it's like the movie for me because I didn't grow with Queen. So whatever I like Romney Malik. So I think he's great. Honestly, I think part of it is I see this trailer every time I go to the theater and I'm kind of dumb with it. I'm kind of like I want to get into a post, but he mean rhapsody trailer universe, and I'm not there yet, and I'm kind of frustrated with it. My loser of this month is. I really looked at this up and down, and I came to a final conclusion that just don't think Taryn Edgerton good and that's Robin Hood. I just don't think this is a good movie. This is just like the King Arthur, the Charlie Hunnam movie. This feels like a British adjacent myth making movie. That's not particularly interesting. I don't think Taryn Edgerton particularly compelling as a lead. No, he is the the Kingsman. He's going to be Elton, John. He is so compelling. He is attractive. What about Jamie Foxx? He plays what's Robin hoods, right hand man little John which does little doesn't seem right. Ben Mendelsohn plays a sheer from Nottingham and I love Ben Mendelsohn. But friend, a friend Ben, I feel like you were just going to be cast as like the Dushi weasel guy for the rest of your life. If you don't like switch it up a little bit, I just I'm this has like forty three percent on rotten tomatoes written all over for me, and I will also say, big loser tickets. What we don't want to see the girl in the spider's web. Got guess what I saw her view that said. Liz, Beth salamander. No other names, Elizabeth salamander. Yeah. Keep going. Sounds like a cartoon character. Mike, his wads listen, I did love the book. I loved the book series. It's Lisbeth founder. They were like Lisbeth is a JAMES BOND for women. No, it's not a need the word Goth in there. If we're going to start that conversation at all, like clear for look so bad in this, if we need a new Elizabeth salamander as you say so quickly, do we need that? Like just all of a sudden, you know, we really more just did it. Y'all really March chested. She's still doing it like she shouldn't that done this the jokers. Like, let's sit down. Let's just give it some room to let one person to have a season. It's ridiculous are do you have any dark horses? Okay. So a few. But my main one is green book which is Vigo Mortenson which Vigo Mortenson is for me somebody that is my like, I think if he's in it, I know it's going to be good because it's gonna be like independent and weird. And so he plays Tony lip bouncer from an Italian American neighborhood in the Bronx who is hired to drive. Dr Don Shirley, a world class. Black pianist named play by Marcia Ali the beloved right? And they have to go from Manhattan to the deep south and they must rely on the green book to guide them to the few establishments that were safe for African Americans. How listened this has gotten so much buzz at film festivals, but I like it's already in the nineties and it's gotten link forty reviews veal Morrison as a cabdriver. No, he is a bouncer who's just hired to drive him from Manhattan to the south. So he's a bouncer. He's an Italian American bouncer. How much are we here for that video? Like such who've ago was born to play, here's okay. So. One and a half over under uncomfortable new scenes with Vigo Mortenson in this movie under he's gonna do that here. There are other means, don't underestimate his capacity for uncomfortable nudity. Do you think that he works at end like it's not even in the script and then suddenly his pants are off and the directors like I'll. No, let's just go with it. Vigo go, okay. I'm convinced that's how a history of violence transpired big like. We're outside of Denny's in alabaster, what are you doing? Man, it's nice. So my darkhorse for November is boy raced starring Lucas hedges. It is, I think, directed an ridden by Joel Edgerton, which he's a. He's a great character actor honestly wouldn't normally think of him as director writer, but he's actually carving out a nice little career for himself with. I think he did the gift with Jason Bateman. He wrote and directed, but he was he was in a loving with Ruth Negga for in it got a little bit Oscar buzz, but I think he's not. He's notably Tom Buchanan and gas fee, and I feel like he was in zero dark thirty as the as the resident expert of zero dark thirty. Can you confirm or deny that isn't that Jason Clark? Is it jas, Jason Clark? Joel joy, Edgerton and listen. If they're either of them are in a movie. I get super pumped. Like I'm like me to be. I think they have. They have an understanding. Georgia's is like, I'm the guy who has the beard. You're not, and that's very keeping. It's like Lucas hedges. Is he and Timothy Shaw may have a deal. He's like your the darker when I'm the good guy will split these films between us counterpoint. I think they're like loose edges like, I'm the ugly one. Tuna Chaumette you're the dreamy one, and this is what it is that may be true as well. Look how much time I hear for Russell Crowe as a Baptist preacher like a belligerent Baptist preacher. I look and even gosh, there's something about Nicole Kidman with big Baptist hair like the only way it would better. She'd been in a cultural or shirt like I'm a little worried about her accent. I'm a little worried about her ability to affect the southern nuance of a concern mother. But I did like, look, this is this is probably I think, beautiful boy and boy race. They are neck and neck for like saddest trailers because I saw boy, race trailer before star SARS born, and it is just Lucas hedges. Has that corner of like playing the reluctantly gave kid who feels the way to the world on him because lady. Lady bird. He plays the same exact character, but it's exploring a different way in this movie. I'm, I'm really, I don't wanna say excited to see this movie, but it looks very affecting. Yeah, because it's about a kid who his parents. His dad is a Baptist preacher in his sin away to in conversion therapy, and it's based on a true memoir. So I am very curious, looks it looks fantastic. Looks like a million bucks, Lucas hedges. Looks amazing in it. Okay. Give me your give the. So let's go to December. Who is your winner for December. Listen, this was very difficult because December is like a gorgeous month. It's like there's some Shirley, goodness, mercy coming out, but I am going to go with what the heart one and the heart says that Mary Poppins returns kills it kills it. So hard look because I've had several people who are like, I don't want to say that maybe well, it's not a remake you weird. It's a sequel like it's so exciting. I, I'm here for Lin Manuel, Miranda, listen. Nobody loves Emily. Blunt, like me except maybe John Kristen, right? That's it. Like it's John and then me and my affection for her. I'm also interested in Colin Firth Meryl Streep. I love the Dick Van Dyke gives him this. I love Emily mortar Emily Mortimer like there's so many. Great. I, you know, who I think is the weak link is been Wishaw. I'm like, agree. Get outta here. Get your face out of here. I'm doing here. I know. But look, I do like all new songs like I'm here for Lin Manuel, Miranda full stop. I don't care what he does. I'm into it and I'm rooting for him. I love you. Can't sing again Beclere. I never want to lose sight of the dirty dirty mouth. Get out of here, get it outta here, but his face when the animation is coming down and you know, mom is looking at green screen. That's how you know he's great because he's like looking at just a green screen and it looks like he's seen. Heaven opened up wide. I let him I am worried about Van Dyke. I feel like he's definitely no, no, I feel like you've breaking something or you has broken something in. He's moving to so flexibly. I don't like that for him. It's really amazing that Dick Van Dyke is one hundred and twenty seven years old. And he looks older than that in the movie like it's so so aggressively old, are you? Are you worried about. Are you worried about Emily? Blunt. Her performance in this? No. No, not in the least. You know why? Because that's our garbage film. What not cabinet in the woods, but it was also in the maybe it was in the woods? No, it was like cabin in the woods, but it was just in the woods where everybody's saying and they were characters. And Anna Kendrick made me listen to her literally is called into the woods right into the woods. She was the only good part of that film, and I stand by that. You come at me all day long in the DM's. She's the only part of that Chris pine was dreamy, but he was just dreaming. It was Emily blunt, but made that you're better person. I got emotionally arm board six minutes into that movie and I'm like, life's too short. I'm not sitting through this. No, thank you. Bye-bye. Flip out. So, yeah, no, I'm not worried about her at all. I think listen, if anybody can do you know who I'm glad it's not doing it and Hatheway because you know she auditioned so hard for that film. Gosh, how many mirrors did she punch out when she got the news as she was on this movie. I just saw mad my winner and I feel so strongly about this. And I'm so excited to see this if Beale street could talk, holy cow like this is I'm really interested in when someone has flex in power. What do they do with it? Like Damian Chazelle I in here, he had it before lowlands, but he was like, I'm gonna make. I mean, I'm gonna put Ryan Gosling space. That's awesome. Love that decision. This is Barry Jenkins his first post moonlight movie and what he's done, what he has created like. Even if the movie sucks. This is the most beautiful trailer music I've ever heard in my life the most beautiful trailer. Listen, there are a whole movies that are not as pretty as this trial. Oh my gosh, like you should win short film just this trailer. And I say that someone I understand I get overwhelmed, but this is so good. I went down a rabbit hole, looking up the guy and trying to get the music and I couldn't find his name's nNcholas Patel. Some waiting for it to come out, but I just I love the, it's it's strange that in twenty eighteen year of our Lord, nothing romance, movies, starring black actors. And so when you see that, you're like, whoa, isn't this crazy? No, not. It's not crazy at all, but the way he's done, it is so beautiful and so perfect. And it's so features Queen Regina king who was probably one of my favorite character actresses that I just don't think it's enough credit and I know she wins like Emmys and stuff, but she's all she's so good in this movie. I'm so excited. I will say how to listen. I am very excited and they're coming. They're coming out on Christmas day, which. Always a good sign. Movies that come out on Christmas day are usually from the studios perspective, the movie that is either going to make the most money or when the most Oscar, and so two movies that are coming out on Christmas day or on the basis of sex, which is about Ruth Bader Ginsburg look, that's not what I cannot wait, because I know that that means that Kate McKinnon is going to be playing repeater for a lot. The rest of this year I take. I don't enjoy her Ruth Bader Ginsburg no, get outta my face. Nobody wants to talk to you anymore. This is now the podcast pajamas. Fay quickly and then vice, oh my gosh, this looks incredible. You guys vice is the epic story of how Dick Cheney became Dick Cheney hole in Asia. We give a trigger warning for people who want their Schwantz stick to stick to movies, six Pucklechurch talking about politics. I know it's not look. Listen, Dick Cheney story is really, really fantastic. Like this is a guy who served so many presidents like it's really astounding, but the trailer, what's beautiful about it is you do not know that is Christian bale it is unreal Christian bale and I like Chris amount. Listen, I loved the big short. I loved it because again, Christian bell did something that you almost couldn't recognize man, and he did it with Adam. McKay is Adam McKay one of the best directors that's I'd literally have that like reasons why you should see this movie. Number one, it's Adam McKay who I think is the next great American director. What is it about this is the guy whose daughter is Pearl. The landlord like I cannot believe it like it's really like, I'm almost like genuinely happy for him. I'm so happy, I think, but I think there's something about starting like SNL earlier and like building up to getting too serious and not just starting Syria. So I think he brings an offbeat since ability comedic community, especially to the serious movies about serious things. And it gives it some creams because I think if you're a whatever your political persuasion is, you might see this was going to be propaganda about Republicans or Dick Cheney or George abuse. I don't think that's what this movie is. I think it's just kind of a retelling of a story. It's meant to persuade you a certain way, but I'm here for Sam Rockwell's George W Bush. It's not really doors of your Bush, but I'd love the impersonate just like I like SNL impersonations of celebrities and whatever. I like his. I like the tension of Christian Bale's did Cheney which is calm. And thoughtful and scrutinizing and joist, and Sam Ruggles. George w. Bush where he's just like molesting buffalo wings and talking to him at the same time, and it's just the greatest. I think, in a nutshell, that's what the movies probably going to be in love it so much for sure and that and it goes to what you said about supporting cast. Look at this. Maybe you've got Christian bale. You've got Sam Rockwell, you've got Amie Adam, you've got Jesse plummets. You've got Steve Carell, you who Jesse cleanses because I couldn't find who he's listed now. I don't know if that's intentional. I know. I know. I, I wanna know. I think he's the person that Dick Cheney shot. What if he's like? Probably not. He's Osama bin Laden. I'd be like, yeah. Okay. That makes sense. I believe it. Like, anyway, I'm very excited to see that that's going to be phenomenal. Give me who is your, who's your loser for this month? Listen, this was hard because they some bad movies also coming out in December and I'm gonna go on record guys. I don't wanna see, Bumblebee. I don't wanna see, man. I do not want to see them. You'll like I do not want to see. You don't want you don't want to see them. You'll know. And I live at. They try to trick me by putting them. You'll trailer right before our c. Bradley Cooper, and they are telling me that Bradley Cooper's in it because I don't wanna see, Clint Eastwood NFL I don't either. I don't want to be cast as the guy who wants to. I thought it was weird. This is like super baseball, close weird that they showed up for stars born the talk about Clint Eastwood, whatever living on a pecan farm. And then that's a plot point from Jackson Maine's. Backstory in a star is born living on a pecan farm was bizarre is very bizarre. Bizarre. Also, I don't like the way you say pecan. I'm not. We're not doing that. It's become on an animal. The con- you can say, it began people. Say at pecan, but listen, that's a you don't live there. You live in Alabama. Now we'll draw draw a line in the sand. I'll say pecans and you'll say boiled, well, however, you say boiled, say bald, bald, bald peanuts, which is, I don't know. That's how that's such a problematic phrasing. When you say, ball peanuts the so close to the line, listen, it's up this Alabama, this, how we do things, but here's my real loser about my real loser. The might is homes and thank you. That is mind as well. Okay. Guys, let me give you the the the treatment. It is truck homes. Dr Watson returned for comedic, take on their classic literary partnership as they use their incredible deductive months to solve a mystery Sherlock Holmes play by welfare will Dr Watson played by John C Reilly row Ray fines, stars as Maury already, a Cohen brother did direct the smell. No, but not eating Cohen. He's not a cone brother is he now I did because I thought the same thing I was like, well, this'll be interesting. He's just he's just a Brosky who wrote minim- black, three Madagascar to tropic thunder. He wrote a short which it's listed on in two thousand seven. It's called my wife is retarded, which I think I pull that off my IMDB. You know if that's if that's me. So that's a tough looks. And here's the deal. This movie was supposed to come out on August. It's now coming out on Christmas because it is being buried by. The studio, not because they were like, oh my gosh, I think people are really gonna love this film. It's because guys the trailer. It doesn't make me feel uncomfortable in like a fun way like awkward humor uncomfortable. It makes me feel uncomfortable because I thought what a waste of time for all of these really what I believe are talented actor. If if I had to play word association when I saw the trailer, I thought indulgent very self indulgent of like though, like we'll just do our thing and it'll be funny and we'll improv and it'll be great and it doesn't feel I get. I don't. I'm not. I'm not saying this couldn't maybe step brothers esque, but it just maybe it could even stepbrothers when I first saw the theater felt exhausting. And I recognize like at a distance, it's funny, but sometimes I'm just like, hey, just make a good movie the first time. So I'll have to watch it three times to predate the glory of it. You know, I will say this. I think it's gonna lose over and look. I don't know. Like Natalie Portman, she's a mystery. Sometimes I hate her. Sometimes I love her like both her and care. Knightley who I do think or Doppler gainers like I don't think they're to people. I think they're the same person. Interesting. They both have films coming out because she's got that dumb nutcracker film coming out, cure nightly. She was in Colette. Emily Borman is going to be Celeste who is the story of an star who was in a person who is famous for a major national tragedy and then becomes a pop superstar. And it spans eighteen years of her life through nineteen ninety nine to two thousand seventeen it stars, Natalie Portman, Jude law and all the original songs are by SIA. The movie is vox Lux what is happening? I'm interested that idea. I'm interested in that idea. Very interested in idea. See is actually like a selling point for me because she's such a talented songwriter, you know, can I tell you know, you always shows up once twice a year in my life. This is when I intercept with her, and it's always on the survivor finales TV show because she's a gigantic fan. I, how do you feel that nutcracker movie? So it comes on November. Listen to members, full of kids may be got the Grinch. You've got the nutcracker film. There's another who's like, you know what? When did we get Ralph breaks the internet Reckitt raft to come back to that here with that. No one likes that. Who was the person who was like, it's time for another Grinch. Everybody we need that Grinch it will get Benedict Cumberbatch to do it. Get out of here late, Jim Carey still around, what are you doing? I don't understand that. I will say for look, do you? I like MacKenzie. Foy who plays. Clara? Yes, you do you, you're like, I like. I heard you just not feel anything about her. So air go, you do like her. I don't think it's an unfeeling. It's not that I don't not like her. I like her. What do you like about jamming? Give me give me give me specifics. What was it that she would know, don't pull your phone, put it down. No, you up. So full time there, you know what? She's in. She's little. You're gonna have to do it. She's a, what's her face. She plays little Jessica Chastain in interstellar. Oh more. She plays Merv. That's right. That's right. That's what I liked her. You know what I didn't like her in. She played s may in twilight us. She was not good in that, but she was tiny, it's fine, but I liked her in interstellar. Visually stunning is it is a popular opinion guess what? Guess what? I don't wanna see anytime the nutcracker. I don't wanna see it at Christmas. I don't wanna see it ever the, I just think it's the no soccer rated christmasy thing. It's the perfect dislocation of like all sweet NAR cracker. We get to get out of school and go see the nutcracker and then cut to our six of the nutcracker, and you're like, I'd rather be in math. I'd just rather be doing math right now because this site I and like what her mom's dead, and there's a key. What I'm not seeing the Morgan Freeman, I think it's ballsy to just lead with him in the trailer and be like, it's whatever. Don't worry. He's not that problematic and I love it. They're like, no, no, she's going to go to a fantasy realm. No, no. She's going to four fantasy realms one that's for people who are allergic to flowers one who are going to get hypothermia because that snowflake place. And then why don't we just cut to land of sweets because that's the only place we wanna go late. And why like look, I I like held me or I don't like how they're using her because Hellum you're supposed to be. Like the kind of old lady and they've just completely undone. That is a perfect Brandfort. She is always my favorites. I love that brand for her and Keira Knightley. It's rare that I'm watching a movie that I'm like, oh yeah, that's the one that someone trying to do something like acting wise. They're doing an impression, her voice that she's trying to affect in that movie is is so off pudding and discomforting that it real. I think she single handedly ruins is movie for me. I really don't like this really to nightly does look good like she does. She. I don't believe that. Oh yeah. She's so pretty in pink like she's just, I just think she's magical looking like, I don't wanna. See again, I don't want to see this. I don't wanna. I don't even wanna come to your house. If there's a nutcracker at the door like you, she needs to be. They need to make another Bourne movie. I'm sure they are making like born or origin stories. BJ symbol. No, absolutely not. But she can be like the, you know, like the Swedish Nightingale and the mission impossible movies that she's just like a freelance spy lick. I'm sure there's she needs to be a freelance. Operative just kind of you're not sure if you're exactly right, because I love her in pride and prejudice which I know is an popular opinion. But you know what? The best thing she's ever acted in Chanel commercials. It's the best thing she's ever been in. Let me just throw this at you. Let me just throw this at you. This wouldn't be one of the free movies you see a week. Okay. Jason Bourne origin stories Secca from his young Jason Bourne, boom. Jesse Plemmons is as European bad guy with a lot of money and incur- nightly is like an operative. You don't know who side she's on. Tell me what that movie. I would love that may come on, come on Hollywood. Let us make some movies. We'll make you a lot of money. I don't even know what we're talking about where we add December. We are now at, oh yeah, we're in lose. I agree with you on Holmes and Watson, who is your? Who's your darkhorse for this one? This one. So this one Wentz typical at picked very two very different films. I, I actually think the darker course is Spiderman into the spider verse. I, I'm here for filled award and Christopher Miller who actually get to start and finish a film, right? I always think they do well. I think they're great at. I loved the LEGO film so much the LEGO movie, the leaker film, the LEGO movie. And I love joining a twenty one St.. These are the guys who did that is a his, an animated film about that. There are many Spiderman universes, and lots of people are Spiderman and they didn't know that there were other spider-man's. I kind of like that. And I like, look, I like Jake Johnson as Spiderman, his voice I want it does. I like that voice. I also am gonna give a hat tip to destroy her because look sad brunette, Nicole Kidman, who is a anti hero LAPD detective who's undercover in the desert. Give me that that's this movie to or did we switch, but I don't pay happening. We did. It's not the same spot, Iran, it's destroyer. Oh, you really did. We're not talking about. Look, I got to be honest with you. You start calling Spiderman and I'm used to you call it a spit or man. So I was confused from the better. Because I do think it's his last name, not his like Peter piece Peterman meeting. Thanks. Spiderman into the sputter Univer practice before we recorded. So I wouldn't. So Nicole Kidman is not a grizzled arizonian detective in the desert in spit, Herman spit, Herman verse. That's right now. She's in the movie destroyer where the leader of a gang reemerges many years later and she kind of has to work back through all the story, Sebastian, STAN, isn't it with her. No looks grizzled. This is like her Charlene's thrown. I'm sticking with the Rhone Rhone in I lean Warner's movie, monsters monsters. This is her version of, I will see, and I feel like we should note. I husband of the show, been moon is very into Spiderman into the spider's that's we were talking to me. We're talking size, birthday party, trusted. I feel like he can fill. He can Toby trusted. So that's like a double green light. I will see your ugly appearance casting decision in raise you with Mary Queen of Scots. What Margot Robbie is doing in this movie? Oh, Lee moly. Oh my gosh. Like so let's just think about Margaret Ravi for second. She starts with wolf Wall Street, right? And she's like the super hot bombshell blonde. Then from there, I feel like she's like deconstructing gingers because she'll be Tonya Harding, and she makes her. Some weird and then she's who's blonde by the way, but in in a mood doesn't she make strawberry red? Yeah, it could be. It could be cheated as a strawberry blonde. And in this movie who has she's not married Queen scotch she is. She's Elizabeth Elizabeth. She makes Elizabeth. And I know historically, this is correct, but she makes her so grotesque that it's like stunning in this movie in his trailer to see her. I think I listen, you know, who is mad about this trailer Cate Blanchett. 'cause she's like, oh, she's a better Elizabeth than me lake. I think she's real. Good luck. I'm also here for social Ronan as Mary Queen of Scots, like. This film is very because this is one of those most famous family rivalries of all time. I'm very curious to see it played out and I liked it probably in real life socia- Ronin and Margot. Robbie probably don't like each other. You think so? Well, because Margot Robbie is like I'm really pretty, but people only think I'm pretty when I really do think Margaret. Robbie is a good actress junior link. I agree, I agree. Yeah. But people only think she's pretty because she's that. I mean, she's very pretty. I can totally see the craft services sable, bright win sorts of Ronin walks up. Mark is like, and I really do think lady birds overrated like Saad really that good on the second one. Oh, no, no. See what I think is happening is Margot. Robbie is trying to be friends because she's like, I'm going to be friends like I'm going to be friendly and befriends insertion. Ronin was like, look, I'm not as cute, but I'm a good actress. I don't need pretty people who are also good actresses getting into Mali. Interesting. So I actually think it's an look. She's Irish like you can't. I would say if I was making, I would say that's good. I would give you a note to not play this role like your Merita from brave the whole time. Because that's how you come off in this trailer. I'll be shooting for me own hand, like all the screaming, Irish and Scottish stuff. I'm all about that. Let's just do more of that. And who's the guy who's the guy you like the British nerd, the super nerd who was like in he's in, he's in the detective murder stuff on TV series. David Tennant, he's in this movie, but he, he looks like a man who has disguised himself with the beard, and he's trying to look like a caveman and it's not worth. It's like hot glued on. Healy straight. It's like it's almost like he has the loops bond. No, it's fine. A British guy trying to look like Moses and he's always taping the mustache back on it every time I love David Tennant. Yeah. So I think that's okay. Any any other ones you want to talk about on December. Look, I do think. We what's funny is we get beautiful boy. Then we get what's the next one with Lucas hedges boy, raced boy erase. Then we get Lucas hedges again in Ben is back been as barrier. He plays a, his mom is played by Julia Roberts and he's now the drug addict. Oh, wow, it's it's the movie set over twenty four hours of he unexpectedly returns home on Christmas Eve horn as right. That's right. That's right. And it has Courtney Vance, you know, we love us maybe visa movie. That's right. And so I am curious like it's like, I've love it. Look. It's just like, okay, I was gonna play. The wayward son who's gay now I'm gonna play. The wayward son who's high and and what I love is that you know who I trust more all these films actress, Lucas hedges, hot actress, Julie, Robert lemme just Slough spin zone for you. Did you know this was written and directed by Lucas hedges? His dad Peter hedges. How do you feel about it now? Oh, no, I'm out. You're out. No, doesn't a fold. I'm I'm sorry, I'm going to go to the cocktail bar now. I'm not saying at this gambling, so I'm gonna call. I gotta take this real quick. Right. Aches, no, absolutely. Not Lucas, but he did. He he, he is a writer. He wrote what's eating Gilbert grape Dan in real life pieces of April in about a boy. So he is a -ccomplish writer in his own right? So that is our competition on our fall movie preview. A lot of good looks. Lot of wants devoid. So remember I'm bad at underrated Jamie's batted everything else and it is perfect. What is your red light this week? So my red light this week is like, I've already gone on the record that I am not a huge fan of the baby announcement. And obviously there was some famous baby announcements. We'll talk about in the more you know, for our patriot supporters, but I am not a huge fan of the use of the ultrasound basically because I have a rule in life and I need everyone to realize that it creeps the rest of us out. If I see the inside of you, I just don't want to see the inside of you ever like just don't ever want to do it, but I want to do a special red light to now the greatest trend. And by that I mean the worst trend which is putting your alter, sound photo of your baby on your manicure, like that you would have your alter, sound baby drawn on your guys, ultrasound babies are ugly. They're not cute. They don't look like you even when they're forty guests wet your baby's mission weird and inside you, it's not okay. I need. This trend to stop right now, I will say. There is like the in the moment they'll chump picture is great because that's the only manifestation you have of this thing that's going to change your life. But after that babies worn like got three kids. I've never looked. I've never looked again. I've never been like she's like hold the ultrasound picture up to your eighty me like, oh my God, it looked just like you Marlowe. I dunno this a match. Can we get like some forensics on this know like we. You know what I think all tra- sounds are ultrasound photos. Are this society's inability to wait for anything? We're like, what? Nine minutes? No, I don't. I can get a photo you done. Every time I go to the doctor. I won't get a new tra- sound picture every like wanted to sell us. You're pregnant. How about that be? The announcement I'm pregnant that that is just as exciting as you show me a blob inside your belly. My red light is so like, you know, we're, we're not quite in the golden age TV anymore. It's kinda the platinum age. I guess I still really good TV. Lhasa show's awesome stuff platinum more valuable than going on. No. When I say you're the, the sound of your sadness did not. It was not represented by your use of your word. I totally hear that criticism. I just know like when pirates were like like pillaging villages, they weren't like, let's get all the platinum booty there. Like, let's get on the platinum yet. They didn't have platinum in the Bahamas. We'll maybe platinum like needs to quit being so uppity and come down to our level. They were in the silver. How about that? We were in the silver age. Let's go bronze. I feel very self conscious now. So let's just go way afar from from gold. We're in the copper age of television. We're in the dirt and sticks age of television and is fine is great. Like it's such a great time to be alive, but there's a trend of like, yeah, like just make it to the fifteenth episode and you're gonna love it. And while I recognize that, like I'm just I just need the first episode to be good. Can we do that you're not always going to get the first episode do I know? I know I did this succession. I'm guilty to make it to episode number eight. Okay. That's a lot. But like I have good taste so you can trust me not everybody does. So like I watched the first episode of forever. Are you going to dump on my green light? No, I'm like, I kept watching it because I trust you and I'm watching it. And the second episode got better, but like that for like such a half a worded pilot of just like, we'll just kind of do some riffing an improv in and I'm Fred Ormiston and on my Rudolph, and I'm Alan Yang. So you'll keep watching it if I turn that you would laugh at me you, this is so stupid, and I'm just a little frustrated with like, is it maniac? Join a hill, 'em sewn, Imigran light for today. Okay. Maybe. But like guys, this, pick it up, let's not. Let's not do the thing of just trust me. I'm. Then let's get right to it. Okay. My green light this week is maniac on that. And here's the thing I know that you originally you had watched too. I had not seen any and you're like, it's so slow and I was like, okay, well, I have to watch it. I don't. I don't have a choice. You've got to try to make it work and the thing that made it slower and you were right. The first episodes are slow because they literally drop you into something, and there is no context of where you are. What is happening? Who are these people? There's nothing. Now. I genuinely sometimes really love that, particularly in books. I like that you're just dropped in and you're like, what's going on, but the problem can be that you don't know, and you don't even try to find out like like for me, what helps me in the situations is you know what? I need to go. Read a recap so that someone can tell me what just happened in this episode and so I did and will include it in the show notes refinery. Twenty nine did an episode by episode recap of maniac, and I would literally watch an episode and then I would go read the recap and I'd be like, oh, that's so good. And then I would have. Read it up, and I know that's a lot of work. But after episode to you don't have to do that aggressively. Listen, I three genuinely and you would not like it. Here's the thing. I tried to describe it to you at work the other hand, you were like, you're not selling this because it will literally pull out your heart stomp on it and leave it on the ground. Great love stone kills me in this. She so good for those who don't know. The show is about the stories of an-and Owen who are two strangers who come to a pharmaceutical trial that's led by the best adjusted. The row has ever been. I'd say good, and so they do this trial that's helping them overcome some sort of tragic event in their life, which is what is going to rip your heart out. And so when you see the trailer, I feel like the trailer did such a bad job of conveying this. And I will say this so many people because I talked about this on my Instagram stories, so many because I said, you've got to make it to episode three. And then I promise you, you'll never look back if you like weird stuff and. So many people. I mean, dozens and dozens of people are like, this is why are more people not talking about the show. Don't you? Don't you crowd sources? Don't you bring data to an anecdote fight to how good the show I'm gonna I'm still going to watch it. But just broadly like the thing of like, will you have to watch three seasons in fifteen episodes per season, and then you'll get it. It's like, oh, can we just like narrow that gap a little bit command? That's how I feel about breaking bad. I go, I don't. I'm I'm a season a half and people would always go on. And once you get them three, it's, I'm me, we'll I'm, I'll make people and I'm saying it's good from jump street so you can watch. I do miss. I will agree with you. I do miss the fantastic pilots like a Friday night lights or a lost or a walk, the Walking Dead, one of the best pilots of all, maybe that's a better way to put it. I feel like people are like, I'll just mail in the pilot because I'm trying to get you to episode four and I'm like, maybe just do a really great job on the pilot and that will buy you. I'll be ready for two three and four to be okay because. You sold me on that first episode because I'm fine with like the dropped in the middle of the narrative because I thought Dunkirk perfect example that you're disoriented and I'm okay with that because I trust you trust Christopher Nolan. But something like here if you give them that trust for me yet, like you don't get that, I know. But he earns that with the show. I will say to like you talking about good pilots, like game of thrones is one of those classic examples of like if you don't like that first episode, you will not like anything of the shown. Like because that for step Assad puts everything you need and look the way that episode ends. I'm like, oh, I'm in. I don't know who these people are. I don't know what they mean to each other, but I want to see what happens if you haven't seen game of thrones like, what are you doing? But also just know that ends with a brother and sister banging and one of them throwing a child out of a window. If I've if I've never said anything that's more Jamie golden aesthetic. Perfect, that's revived. Started that kid just get thrown out the window. Watch it this. Let's watch the next twenty seven episodes now I loved it guys such a good. So yeah, I will agree with you that, but maniac is a beautiful exception to that rule. Okay. I'm gonna still watch it. I can complain about it, but I'm still gonna watch it just because like you said, people have given good feedback, but just come on guys. So what is your green light migraine light this week is the podcast it's from shattered, and it's called white boy, Rick. And it's not the movie with Matthew mcconaughey, hey, this is the story that movie is based on, and there's a lot of inter locking with that story like a maximum. Hague's history interviews in this podcast, and he talks about the characters he's portraying, but it's the story of Rick where she junior who was called rent Detroit whiteboard, Rick, and at fourteen he becomes the youngest FBI informant ever. And he helped bring down some Detroit drug dealers. And then like the the real tension of the story is what happens after that FBI abandoned him. He becomes the dealer and then he's busted with a couple of kilos of cocaine and bat, hijinks ensue. But it's it's super interesting. He's a lot of these true crime stories. I have a hard time. I don't know sympathizing or more Leising that might be about way putting it I, I don't automatically trust the narrator in these stories, and it takes a lot to win me over Rick where she junior, he so open and honest and communicative about what went down that I bought into him really quickly. So I understand like the compelling aspect of the movie and. And even the Matthew mcconaughey character as the data. I totally see that working in the movie, but it's just a really, it's a quick story. I think it's h after's, eight episodes. You cannot get out. I think knocked out three days, but it's just really, really well done twenty to thirty minutes pop. So it's easy to listen to on a commute, but it's doing something similar to serial of just kind of pointing out that the legal system, you can't always just the things you think you can trust, especially if you're not someone from privilege and your little disadvantaged, you don't always have things working in your direction. So this is a really, really interesting. Listen our Jamie, that's gonna do it for this episode of the podcast and guys for government or anytime you do any shopping on Amazon, make sure to go to Amazon com slash shop slash podcast. I saw your purchase. These are fairly link. Our favorite using Belling. This week was Jamie. This is continuing from last week someone because we talked about last week. Someone bought the audiobook the hate you give, but they've bought the Danish version and we're like, are we big with the Danish or like maybe they bought the rump because we didn't know where the Danish lived. But we did like we might be popular with them wherever they even in that moment. I was like, are we big in? I don't know what that means. So I'll just say Danish people did not cover, right, like my basis because I'm already on thin ice with the whole platinum h thing. And it was really in my head about all this right now, but update someone bought the hate. You give audio book. I think that person, but the wrong version last time they mentioned on social media, right? We actually know it. Yes, they the end us and let us know that they were the ones that fought the Danish version and it was the incorrect version. So we're so congratulations. You did it. You got the right one.
