"Of course we're party and I think again we are often reminded when a guy gets hurt and then comes back and it's a little bit slow to come back about how darn good he is when he's healthy. I mean he's top 5 baseball players and you throw attitude and all he's able to do along with this sort of I'll show you all then he's he's a party. He is a party the way he plays the way he emotes the way he runs around the bases. Hesitates at third base. But yeah, sure, I'm partying on just stay healthy, man. Knock on, I'm sitting here at a wood desk. Just stay healthy. Yeah, I think you understand the question. It's just a device to get us through this conversation. Panic patients are party. We get a chance to talk about Ronald lacuna junior off road shohei oh tiny that mix, OPS so far, 8 78, 6 homers, 6 games is a pitcher. One 8 5 ERA just 11 hits allowed in 34 innings, 46 strikeouts that will put them in the same category as Ronald lacuna junior, but I am going to ask you about Juan Soto. Batting one 83 so far hidden a ton of balls on the ground to the right side, you know, I'm not a hitting coach, but you can see he is out front so often in his plate appearances. What are you doing? Panic patients are party. No, I'm the little panic. I haven't quite got my head around what is the issue there, whether it's mental and psychological, where he's batting in the order, whether it's having those other superstars on the team. There's something that's just not clicking. You know, and look, maybe he's a victim of his own success because he was, he was so outlandishly good when we first were exposed to him with Washington. And in the postseason, you know, all those things would let you think that this guy is going to only ascend to even greater heights, and that that hasn't happened. You know, when they got him last year, when the Padres picked him up, they're like, well, this is like, now it's the World Series team. He is that guy. The antithesis of Jordan walker where you're not looking at Jordan walker to carry, but yeah, you're not looking at soda, not only to fit in with Machado, bogarts and tatis. You're looking at him to be The Shining star there. And that has not happened at all. And I don't think it's a physical thing. I think there's just something going on, psychologically, mentally that's causing him not to be able to be the guy. You read and hear so many comments of a reminder, one, you are a great hitter. We appreciate you have a great eye. We understand about the patients, but you're so much better when you swing the bat, you know? You don't go to a long drive contest and not get into the position to hit a drive. He's not driving the baseball. He's not hitting. He's not, he doesn't feel like he's being aggressive and knows I'm not only batter's box, but I own the picture, meaning I'm going to hit the picture. And he hasn't done that. There's something there's just something a little off there, you know, I'm not jumping to the conclusion of we need to change the sort of scenery and move him, but there's just something that hasn't clicked with Soto and I'm not sure I'm not sure what it is. I don't think bob Melvin knows exactly what it is. You know, we've been with him before. You talk to him. Yeah, there's just, you know, there's a little thing, a little something and I don't think they can put their finger on it. No, I do think this is that once he finds it, he'll take off. It kind of reminds me a little bit remember there was a year or two when Bryce Harper would go through the stretches where he in a similar way was out front with his swing. He didn't seem like he was on balance. This is like in year three and four in his career. I think after he won his first MVP and once he figured it out, man, he just took off. And I think that's eventually we're soda gets to, but I agree with you given shoulders importance to the team. Like, they need him to turn this around. Because the questions in their pitching staff, they need to out hit some of their pitching issues. All right, panic, patience, or party, the Chicago White Sox. 7 and 19, they've lost 8 straight games, Carl, they've got the third worst run differential in baseball, athletics being first. The royals being second, you do not want to be in that group when you're talking about early in the season. They're already 8 games out of first place. What are you doing with the White Sox? I'm running and hiding. Is there another level besides

"Don't have any doubt about that. I think you got a new catcher in there and Contreras. And I want to be new as far as Ricky, but with the organization, there's going to be some growing pains between pitching staff, Contreras, once we remove a stabilizer like Molina, but Goldschmidt aron auto, the young players who maybe need to kind of become more consistent and there's a lot of same players on that team, but I'm preaching patients. I think it's, you know, we've seen them win World Series, you know, entering as a wildcard. The Cardinals always seem to be good. And I don't sense that this season is the year they're going to be bad, but I am concerned about their pitching. They're starting pitching in particular. I'm going to go panic on the Cardinals because that's what it feels like the front office is doing. Like to me, if you're going to start the year with Jordan walker in the big leagues, you are committing to, hey, you know what? We're going to start this guy's service time clock because we believe in him and we believe that if he struggles early in his career, he's going to weather that and he's going to move forward. And I starts off as to where it gets hit in every game for two weeks. And then we start hearing, well, he doesn't hit the ball in the air enough. Well, you know what? He still has been that's who he's been in the past. He's never been a big home run hitter. I think everybody anticipates that eventually that he'll get to that. But we knew all that about Jordan walker coming in. And we knew, you know, a guy 20 years old first month in the big leagues that he probably was going to have veteran pitchers adjust to him and he was going to have to make adjustments. What this feels like to me is that the team's not playing well and they're trying to figure out how to shuffle the chairs on the Titanic early in the season. And you know what? It's just easier to move a young player than it is in older guy and I don't get it. Like either if you were going to start the year with Jordan walker in the big leagues, you were going to commit to him for a good long time and instead they're sending him down to the marginal league because I don't get it. And I would say that given the cardinals and some of the star players they have there, Jordan walker shouldn't be looked on to be the guy that kind of carries this group. I mean, if you were going to hit Charles, that's my point. He shouldn't be the guy that we're going to zero in on and be like, well, we're going to replace that person because he's the three hitter. He's the two hitter, you know? That's not the case. So I hear you. We all, you know, we all got a chance to see with him and interact with Jordan during spring training. He said, hell of a kid, he's got all sorts of talent. Yeah, but how many times we've seen players come up get sent down? They working on some things. They realize, you know what? I don't belong here down here. I do belong up there. Maybe there's some mechanical things he can do to but he knows he knows where he belongs and let's hope he gets called back up and they do well, but to your point, he's not the guy that you should be looking at on that team to say, well, if he's not producing we're in trouble, I also think that they are in a situation now where you and I have talked to a lot the last two years about this great volume of position player prospects that they have. You know what? They have to go and find a deal in which they begin to turn over some of those resources and use some of those guys. Maybe to go overpay for a young starting pitcher, not only to help the rotation, but if you continue to handle these guys in this way, Tyler O'Neill, et cetera, you're going to lose value when that group. It feels like they're going day to day. Well, let's go with this guy because he had a good day yesterday. And then you put a Tyler O'Neill on the bench, you've got to be more aggressive than that, I think. I don't think you can just hold on to 8 guys for three spots and expect that you're going to have something necessarily great come out of that because your hemorrhaging value every day you don't make choices. I would agree. I mean, there is such thing as having too much of the same thing when none of them are really allowed to get a footing and excel. You look at certain teams and you're looking and you're like, boy, they have a lot of the same player. And that's versatility. That's offensive upside. You know, that's some speed. There's athleticism. There's youth, but there's a whole group of them. And an ideally you'd like to have some of those separators. And that's hard to do when, as you said, you know, you're kind of moving them between playing and sitting, sitting and playing very hard in this game to get consistency. As everybody knows, that's why we have the minor leagues. We got to get guys consistent playing consistent at bats and see what can happen. Panic patients are party, Ronald lacuna junior so far this year, Carl batting three 52, but these are the numbers that really jump out to me. 16 walks, 17 strikeouts. 9 doubles, four homers, 13 steals. This is the best case scenario for me. I'm party and if I'm the braves seeing what I'm seeing at a Ronald Cooney junior. I mean, I'm not even sure I understand the question. Like, how are we framing him and patience or panic in any way? You heard me last week when you sort of said, all right, so what's the most likely least likely thing to happen? I was worried about his legs and why are we going to get close to 50 steals? He may steal 7 bases the way that he's running around and feeling so good about himself. Of course we're party and I think again we are often reminded when a guy gets hurt and then comes back and it's a little bit slow to come back

"Sort of advance this game even further? I think he'll advance because of the kind of player that he is and the work ethic and he asked him about the factors of why the braves invest in certain players. And I think it starts from not just the on field talent level, but also the kind of person that they're drafting developing and ultimately signing to an extension and I don't know if there's a better example of that than Michael Harris the second because as much as braise fans can get excited about these extensions, I would say there were some that were unexpected. And Harris was certainly one of those, but his emergence last year was unexpected at least from a timeline perspective, but a couple of years ago in 2020, I think Michael Harris came in and flashed some skills that get on people's radar. In 2021, he was going to be in the lower level of the miners and not really going to be a huge factor, but he got the attention that you need to have people kind of asking him, what about that Harris kid? And seeing him a little bit more in spring training in 2022 led you to believe that it could be closer as far as his emergence as a big league player. But I don't know that any of us could have expected The Rookie season that he put up. I think he's capable of being a two 80 plus hitter, the on base skills would clearly go up if he's able to show a little bit more patience at the plate, even a three 40 to three 50 on base percentage to go along with that. I think he could slug somewhere between four 75 and 500, maybe better because he's shown some emerging power and he went home and I don't think he stopped working over the course of the off season. He looked great when I saw him in spring training and he was depositing baseballs over the offices and right field at the brave spring training park and that's not a thing that I really remembered about Michael Harris a couple of Titanic home runs he hit last year, notwithstanding. It's just all of his skills are legit. The arm is legit, the gloves legit, he runs, he's got the power. It's all there. It's just, I think, taking those steps and maybe kind of finding your way through the adjustments that the league makes to you the second time around that's going to take him to that next level, but he is an incredibly hard worker student of the game. And even when he's not hitting, he does so much in center field. It's just going to continue to cement his value for this club. But I think he's a 2020 player. Capable of that, where they put him in the lineup, will obviously dictate the level of run production he may have, but I think that the braves are going to find Michael Harris right in the middle of a lot of good things going on offensively in 2023. Well, let's move from a 2020 potential player to a 40 40 potential player, at least at least he has been in the past. So you mentioned some restraint surrounding Ronald Acuna in his comeback from injury are all limitations off now. Is he back to full strength? And if so, do you expect to see the same power speed combo that we saw before he got hurt? Yeah, I definitely do. It was the power that wasn't there last year that kind of made you wonder where exactly did that go, but I think that there was a lot of consternation for Ronald just trusting the leg again maybe in some places in having a significant amount of time off and then rehabbing and then coming back in and then dealing with some of maybe the residual soreness that happens after a big injury like that, but in talking to both the club from the winter fan fest to spring training to hear it from Ronald himself, all these limitations are off. He feels a 100% clearly the club felt that the limitations are off. He wouldn't play in the world baseball classic and he was back out in center field, which is not a place that he's going to play very much because of Michael Harris, but we saw Ronald play exactly one inning in center field last year. It's just not a place that he had been very often. He has a speed to cover it, but I think he's better suited as a right Fielder and the offensive profile that he showed before the surgical procedure on the knee and kind of that hurdle that was thrown at him there. I think he's going to come out and get back to the Ronald lacuna junior that we're accustomed to seeing. The power I've seen in spring training looks like that's going to translate to games. And last year, even though he was dealing with a knee injury, the sprint speeds were still pretty good, not what they were pre surgery, but he also stole 29 bases, so he wasn't so timid that he wasn't going to run anymore. And I asked him point blanket at fanfest as it looks some of these rules changes could mean more stolen basis for you. Is that something you're thinking about? And he said two things and he kind of smiled. He's like, well, you got to get there first, but I'm always looking to steal. So as far as 40 40 goes, it might just be the home runs that we're waiting on because the stolen base is I think are going to be there for him. And I think he enjoys that part of his game. So I expect big things from him is what 25 years old. He's in the prime of his career. I think the best for Ronald lacuna junior is yet to come. He was showing it in 2021. Last year was a little bit of a step back, but now I think is a great season for him to kind of remind baseball that he is one of the top talents in the entire game. This isn't uncommon for a team that projects as well as Atlanta does, but there aren't a lot of positional battles on the position player side here. I mean, we could go player by player and ask what you expect of metal center Austin Riley or any of the rest, but I'm curious, are there any spots that were sort of more competitive and unsettled going through camp and then are there any guys among the returning stalwarts where you're looking for them to elevate their game to another level in 2023? Yeah, a few more battles in spring training than just shortstop. There was the 5th spot of the rotation, which we could maybe get into pitching in a moment separately if you want to, but as far as the position players, all of those left fielders, I think, had an opportunity to earn some playing time Sam Hilliard looked great. I know that hitters who don't necessarily really strike it big with the Colorado Rockies are kind of a quizzical thing, but the braves really like what they've seen out of him. So I think he's a guy that could be somebody that maybe keep an eye on from a good contribution standpoint. We'll see, but if you're looking at the overall lineup regulars and guys who could take a big step forward, I think it's going to be a career year offensively for Sean Murphy just by getting out of the coliseum. I think Matt Olsen and if you've looked at what he's done this spring, it's hard not to get caught up in numbers like that, 8 home runs, 18 runs knocked in. With another one on Monday.

They were punching out guys on third strikes in unison. They were hot. They were asking the first space up for help on check swings. And one dude chugged a beer out of a sneaker. So that, I mean, that's the ultimate boys night out. Well, thank you, Perry. Alan, Atlanta, Alan, thanks for holding best and worse to the weekend. Good morning, van, got a best and then I'll throw back to Friday if we have time, hopefully. The rest of the weekend, Ronald lacuna junior and Venezuela upsetting the Dominican Republic in the world baseball classic, always great to see an upset except for when it's Mexico over the USA. Where should the weekend, at the end of the NFL season, I was the first to say no thank you to Tom Brady when he retired for all the memories because every memory I have of him is a horrible one. And the falcons were set up. We were set up for have a great year and then now looking around, we got Derek Carr to our west, the Panthers to the north have the number one draft pick. And I just had this feeling that somehow, some way, Aaron Rodgers is going to end up at the Tampa Bay just to screw me. Yeah, that's not going to happen.

"And I just have to think at some point they can't be as healthy as they were last year. But I love the direction of this team. Grace and Rodriguez has a chance. Sooner rather than later to be a really good major league pitcher and Gunnar Henderson and the rest of the kids who were brought up last year and in the last two years are clearly are going to lift this team to some really nice places. I just don't think this is the year that they make the playoffs. But I think they'll win 80 games. And I think that's a pretty darn good season for a team still on the rise. Would you agree with me, adley rushman right now is already one of the top three catchers in baseball and would you agree with me that Gunnar Henderson going into the year? I think is the easy favorite to win the American League rookie of the year. Yeah, I love that kid. Just watching him even a few times. He is a big, strong kid who can run and can do some things can play multiple places in the infield. I would probably guess that he's the best candidate for rookie of the year in the American League. And adley rushman, we talk all the time about this buster, but that team took off when he showed up last year. It was not a coincidence. I think you could make a case. He's one of the three best catchers in the major leagues already, and he just arrived. I'll never forget talking to Jordan lyles and some other veteran pitchers on the team last year. And there weren't many. Just how well this guy calls the game. He's totally in control of things. It's pretty hard to do when you're his age, but he's a born leader, switch hitter is going to get better from the right side. There's nothing not to like about him. So I had a conversation earlier this spring with a former oriole. And I said to him that I felt like that what the leadership of that team has done. Ownership is effectively, in my opinion, competitive malpractice. Since we were at the trade deadline last year, they added nothing in the midst of this great resurgence by the team and they did absolutely nothing they trade away their clothes or they trade away Trey Mancini. Then we go into the off season Tim, they didn't give out a single multiyear contract. And I mentioned this in the preview that I wrote, I looked this up yesterday, the Orioles have spent about a $150 million less in payroll over the last 5 years combined than what the metro spend this year. And I said to this player, I really think that the leadership, the ownership, owed it to you guys to back you and I didn't think they did it. They did that during the course of the off season. Tim at all. Yeah, I expected more from the Orioles in the off season as far as bringing in players. I mean, Adam Frazier is going to help Kyle Gibson is going to help. But those guys aren't going to help you beat the Yankees or the raise or the Blue Jays. Again, in a very competitive division. And Mike Lyon said, you know, we're going to we're going for it. We're going to spend some money, and then when they didn't, that's a bit disappointing. So again, we'll see where this team goes from here. I love the direction, but this is not the year that they're going to just break through again and make the playoffs. And I also feel like, Tim, they're on the clock when it comes to signing these young players. We've seen the Atlanta Braves, these great team friendly contracts with a guarantee, you know, Ronald lacuna junior, a $100 million. You know, what they did with Austin Riley. What they did with Matt Olson, they were relatively aggressive. Michael Harris the second, they've been relatively aggressive in getting players signed at the right time. They got about a year, I think, with adley ruchman before at some point, his representation might go, you know what? You got to just wait for free agency. Just take a year to year. You're going to make a ton of money in arbitration, bet on yourself. There's no reason for you to take a team friendly contract. Same thing with Gunnar Henderson. If the oils are going to sign these guys, they got to do it now. Well, that sure seems to be the pattern buster for our for a lot of our teams now is get your best players sign them up long term. You know adley rushman is going to be a great player for a long time and has such great character and makeup that there's no way he's not going to perform and carry the team in every single way. Yes, you got to get him signed up now. And this does so much for the fan base when they look at the team and say, well, he's not going to leave Manny Machado or others had to leave. This guy is our guy. We drafted him number one overall and we're going to keep guests. Those things have to be done earlier, not later. And all they have to do is look at the Red Sox and the handling of Mookie bets as an example of why they need to be proactive as in right now. Mookie betts, once he got to year three, once he got to year four, the gap between what he was looking for and what the team is willing to offer. It got bigger and bigger and bigger. The stakes got higher and they wound up dumping Mookie betts just as the Orioles did in the last year for Manny Machado before he became a free agent. So I think the leadership of that team is on the clock right now with those guys. The Diamondbacks did sign a player to a long-term deal Corbin Carroll 8 years, a $111 million. What do you think? Well, I think it's a great deal for the Diamondbacks. By the way, are on the way up also buster. They are starting to build a very interesting team there, not a playoff team, in fact some similarities like the Orioles, quietly building some really young players into that team and they're going to be pretty good soon.
