"First to report that the Broncos have signed former Washington football team ER and Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby. So Ronald Darby is now a Member of the Denver Broncos. We know corner was a huge I mean, that was the place where they weren't going to get any internal help. Right? There was nobody They let a J boy Diego to save a bunch of money. And, um They needed. Look outside the organization for cornerback, help! Ronald Darby. I think, um I like it. Like Ronald Darby, and here's Ron Darby hat was had a down year two years ago. And then last year approve a year to be sure. Ronald Darby. And he bounced back with Washington. He was At the secondary for Washington while wasn't great. I think was a little bit better than people expected it to be because Ronald Darby was coming off of Ah, Just not a very good season. For the Philadelphia Eagle. And He was good in Buffalo. And that's what makes me feel a little bit better. As opposed to a J boy. Because I think with Ronald Darby, you have a little bit more of a track record here. While the Broncos may not be an elite defense They are a good defense. And Ronald Darby can still cover dudes. In the NFL. So I do like this signing by the Denver Broncos to bring him Ronald Darby. I still have major questions about Michael's You Muthiah Bryce Callahan. I don't think that that's secondary is, uh, By any stretch of the imagination, a finished product. I think that's where the Broncos should go. I mean, You could see now if they get Darby on one side. And they can get Hail of Farley..

"And part of that, of course is because they got so much consistent pressure upfront, and he was playing with two great safeties behind him. So that makes his job easier. But it's also reuniting him with Vic Fangio who was running all the eagles and Ronald Darby agree to a one year contract rap sheet reported this one ESPN I had it. He suffered a torn ACL this past November. So he's in the recovery phase. But the eagles Darby stay in business. See if he can help the team that's not too far off our long ago. Now ACL turn November that will set him back in his off season planning, both these last two contracts made it on my best contracts west is favourite piece of content that I've pretty Kareem. Now, I like these short term deals, I think that's like that's basically the future. Like, the smartest teams are doing essentially these cheap one year deals, and they're not afraid of the unknown. They're not afraid of going into each offseason just having to figure things out with these one year contracts. So you're gonna be ready for week one. That's like I said November. We'll see if he if he. Finally, the raiders finally part ways with Donald Donald Penn. I feel like there's been years in the making the veteran tackle who's been with the raiders for five years moves on he they cut ties and at an age now where his career could keep going. But I believe it's thirty four. It could be a situation where he's gotta kinda catch on wherever he can Donald Penn. Does he bring value to team he anywhere what he'd be on the top wanna one? How about that believe he's thirty six years old Texans are showing interest reportedly the word out of Oakland is that he became more trouble than he was worth. As his skill started to decline lawyer. Colton Miller draft pick did not help gimme a locker room lawyer. He was always trying to get paid regardless of how well he played with sort of the way I heard because he's great when he's on NFL network. They just like he's strikes me as one of those like the coaches don't like it when the players are smarter. I mean, it's seems like he'd might be one of the smartest people in the room and any room and the Gruden era again with Donald Penn as this big Gruden guy who knew him from the ages ago, and they they were real tight. They both loved it. And then look where it ends. He he spent some time at Tony peas in marina del Rey. One of my old hangs Donald Penn known to frequent make big man big huge man met about the odors meetings last year market that Suare they threw on Monday evening, you remember that party last year? I do remember that it was a meeting a giant of a man. That's all I recall. I mean, I can't say anything else. He is large drafted by Jon Gruden Bruce Allen. All right coming up this week. So yes, this is Monday show. Hope you enjoyed it. We'll have another show on Wednesday Friday. We won't have a show because we'll be traveling. We'll be traveling off to Phoenix Arizona lovely Phoenix to meet with multiple player owners, excuse me. Neither players nor owners, but coaches, and some GM's maybe a lot of facts, we'll get to talk it up chop it up. Hopefully, get some info on where their teams are headed. That's going to be fun as we're fun shows last year was the first time we did it. They're bringing us back seems like a good sign..

"I'm watching NFL network as we speak and this brings a smile to my face. The chiefs are meeting with Ronald Darby tonight. Chiefs remaking that defense because let's be honest. Outside of Chris Jones. Did anybody know that they had a defense? So Ronald Darby certainly injury concerns. But in the. Pecking order of Cornerbacks definitely top five out there on the market. So. Ronald Darby meeting with the chiefs. Teddy Bridgewater thought he shunned the dolphins. Now, there's a report saying he's going to meet with them tonight. Of course, the big deals that have been announced today. Obviously, the flacco deal is done and all the deals that have been made over the past forty eight hours are done, but the deals that have been agreed to today. Earl Thomas goes to the Baltimore Ravens. Mark Ingram going to be more as well. Chiefs cut Eric berry. And then of course. Ooh. Tyrod Taylor signed by the chargers. It's just coming across the. Scroll. Of course, the biggest deal that was made official today. Is the blockbuster trade don't see trades a whole lot in the NFL certainly ones that would be considered blockbusters. But yet here we are the Cleveland Browns receive Odell Beckham junior and alleviate Vernon. Inex- change the New York Giants will receive. Kevin Zeitler the guard. The Browns first round pick this year. The Browns third round pick this year. And Gebreel peppers. Brown's obviously had become must see TV. With the more. 'cause there's still that over there. The browns. And they've been just the worst franchise in professional sports for two decades. Now. It's like if they're at all even barely good. You'll you'll buy into him in walk in on them and want to watch him. And now they have Baker Mayfield. And now they have Odell Beckham junior. Certainly. Makes them on paper the team to beat in the AFC north. I think that the ravens have done a decent job at trying to replenish, some of the talent that they have lost with CJ Moseley going to the jets among other moves that have been made other players that have been poached by Baltimore. Pittsburgh, we know that they're running back is going to be playing in New York. And they're wide receiver is playing for the raiders, by the way. Did you hear Jon Gruden like the most Jon Gruden what he say like, oh this guy can catch passes e run in and he could sell popcorn. Halftime. I do a terrible Jon Gruden, but it's like did such a Jon Gruden thing. Today announcing Antonio Brown. And then the Bengals or the Bengals. So you would say on paper. The Browns are the team to be in the AFC. But I'm not going to label them that much of a threat to the chiefs in the patriots until I see how all of this is gonna work. But look it was a deal you had to make if John Dorsey if you call the giants and the giants like, yeah, I think we'd be willing to part with them. Then you start working out a deal. So that's gonna be fun in Cleveland about in Denver. The deals with John James with Kareem Jackson had been made official the trade for Joe flacco. And also, the trade of case keenum have become official. So everything is official nothing new to report for the Denver Broncos. But. I was thinking about this last night. Once the once they had a private moment to discuss. With myself. So I guess that's called thinking. Think about what the impact of the Odell Beckham trade is in in see if there's a local correlation. I think there is. So here we go. Arizona's going through with Kyle Murray drafting number one, I think it's a mistake. No one asks my opinion in the cardinals organization. Okay. Kyle Murray goes one now the giants have it more draft capital, which they could then parlay into Josh Rosen. So now as you look at the top nine teams cardinals will have Cuyler Murray. Bills. Don't need a quarterback giants. Now don't need a quarterback Jaguars. Do they need a quarterback of the future? Absolutely. But they did sign Nick foles to a Redondo deal. Right. So do they have to draft. A quarterback. I don't know that they have to. And then you look at other teams within the top ten. The buccaneers have Jameis Winston. They're going to give him another shot, right? So now all of a sudden. Is it to is it too far fetched for me to say that? Dwayne haskins. My actually be in play for the Denver Broncos once. Yeah, he was going at six, but he might as well have been going at number one. Because it just seemed too far away. You have quarterback needy teams a few slots above you. Broncos weren't going to make that jump. So Dwayne Haskins best quarterback in the draft, in my opinion, and in many people's opinion. But is just no way that he was going to be in play for the Denver Broncos. And the Denver Broncos couldn't have given up their second round pick or another first round pick to move up. Ahead of the giants. It just didn't make any sense. But now Cuyler goes to the cards Nick boasted to the Niners. Josh Allen, the pass rusher goes to the jets raiders who the hell knows what they're gonna do. But then again bucks. Have Winston giants would have Rosen foles is in Jacksonville. Stafford is in Detroit. And then the bills have the other Josh Allen. All of a sudden Dwayne Haskins is sitting there in John Elway's lap at number ten. And even if you don't believe that Haskins falls that far. Would you not agree that now if the Broncos wanted doing Haskins they wouldn't have to necessarily move up to five would day? Could they move up a couple of spots certainly the compensation? That is going back to whoever they trade up with is not going to be as steep as it would be to move from ten to five. Now, I said this to open the show what John Elway is doing is getting a little bit better at every position that he can and hoping that all of that adds up along with Vic Fangio running the team that adds up to a team that competes for the playoffs. So even to draft Wayne Haskins if he fell into their lap at ten seems like. Something that would run counter to what the Broncos are trying to do this offseason. However. However. Broncos. Have let me let me just say this perfectly loud and clear for any of you still harboring hope there is no. Way. That the Broncos are going to be in a position to draft. Justin, Herber or to a tongue of Isla. They couldn't even get a high enough draft pick to get one of those two guys if they traded von Miller. So there is no chance they land one of the two guys next year. There's none. And do you want to wait for Trevor Lawrence is that what you're okay with now that there's Joe flacco? But again, what guarantee is there? The Broncos would be in position to draft Trevor Lawrence in two years. So now all of a sudden your face with that or hopefully, not all of a sudden, hopefully, the Broncos already understood that, but you look and you're like, okay. We are in a position to get the best quarterback in this draft. Because Dwayne Haskins is the better quarterback than Kyla Murray. We have a chance to get him. The best the best quarterback in this draft class. Could any of you regret? John Elway for taking that opportunity. I don't think I could is it the best move that they can make. No, I think I think getting somebody like, greedy Williams. Is better pick again because the Broncos are trying to win now in greedy Williams can help him win. Now, Dwayne Haskins would not help them win in two thousand nineteen. But if the name of the game is drafting a quarterback in all of you have asked John Elway for years now to stop being terrible at picking quarterbacks and find a quarterback in the draft that you could build your franchise around. Would you? Be upset if John Elway ended up pulling off a move or taking Dwayne Haskins at ten I don't know that I could. Because he is the bet this isn't this isn't nineteen Eighty-three. This is not the greatest crop of quarterbacks. But I believe Dwayne Haskins has it legitimate future in the NFL. And I don't know that I can say that for everyone else in his draft class. So if the Broncos had a chance to get them. Be hard to pass them up. Two eight six zero zero four six. Do you think? That John Elway would take Dwayne Haskins. If he had the chance or is he looking the defensive side of the ball to eight six zero zero four six will take some of your thoughts. And then get you out to Vegas. Jim Arthur will have the call air force in San Jose State. That is at the bottom of the hour. So more time with you and me next on extra sports thirteen hundred. Traffic.

"They have a a pretty solid chance of running up a lot of points potentially winning that game. So you have a potential for the Redskins do drop down to five and four of the Redskins would still be I believe undefeated against the NFC east. If memory serves and Philadelphia with also be undefeated against the NFC east at two out, which actually fun. Fact Carson Wentz has won his last one two three four five six seven games against NFC east. Opponents the last game Carson Wentz lost was week. Fourteen of twenty sixteen to the Washington Redskins twenty two hundred twenty seven we don't know if your member that game manner chance to win game at the end, and they weren't even pulled off Carson has won his last seven games against NFC's opponents on I do not believe. Nope. He lost to Dallas to start his his first year. And then he's as he's two one against houses career Carson show. Shows out generally NFC's games and Doug Peterson of Carson's team really plays. Well in those circumstances. So that he that street going I really love for Carson to just like have an insane career average against the NFC. Dow so happy that as good information on feeling good about this. Ben feeling real good about this. And what we're gonna do today is we're going to preview the eagles offense against the Dallas Cowboys defense before we get into that. And I know that BGN radio episode twenty it is out with a preview show for Cowboys eagles with John stolis Branly out and go listen to that if you haven't, but they touched a lot on some of the things in the injury report. One thing that I wanted to specifically talk with you about because it pertains to the overarching theme of the show is that with these injuries with mills being out. There is a good chance that Ronald Darby could be starting in the usual mill spot on the other side of the defense with Douglas playing on the right side. That's the. Figuration that the eagles used when mills lefty Jaguars game early. Now, this would put him in a spot where instead of Darby covering Michael Gallup, he would be covering Amari Cooper, more often. And I'm interested to see 'cause I know the Cowboys are going to want to get a more Cooper isolated on some things. If maybe they treat him kinda like they treated L Beckham junior. Using more cone brackets may be using a little more too high. Even though Dak is not good against one high. I have an article on deck Prescott on bleeding green nation dot com right now detailing that go check that out..

"Westwood One. Beginning at seven thirty PM eastern on many of these same stations. So giants have it at their own thirty two yard line. There've been five bobbled or muff. Punt returns for the giants. And it's only week number six. I'm surprised that Beckham didn't fair catch the bed the bed the block on. And so we usually if you call a block, meaning you're going to go after the punt you fair catch it because you have no one protecting your return. Got it stupor. Does a good job and gets in there in lays out almost gets it. Rebecca still tries to make a point. He's fortunately fumble that injury update for Philadelphia Sidney Jones who plays in nickel and dime situations out for the rest of the game with a hamstring injury. So Russell Douglas in manning fix washed out of the pocket to is. Right. Manning. Tries to dump it off at bounces off the hand of saquon Barkley as manning took a hit from Fletcher Cox incomplete second and ten other trying to do a little half. Roll off the play action fake the Barclay. The protection is not there from the top of the drop. Manning is running for his life. And that's not the prettiest picture, you know. Getting older and not most athletic guy in the pocket. Does a good job of buying enough time tries to dump down. Just can't get it done. Manning is now six of twelve just thirty nine yards and a pick manic sets of the screen to the right by Barkley Barkley chewing up yards right side. He's got a I doubt pork MC bounces across midfield. Twenty five forty. We still. Thirty. He's twenty five. Fifteen. Play by Barclay. Finely chased down by Brandon Graham, he broke four tackles along the way. There are great call screen, and let's give some credit to the guys up front. John Greco has the big block is absolutely pancakes. The linebacker. I'm not sure what you will was. But that's the first block that springs. Saquon Barkley and then shepherd hustling down the field to make another block giants working quickly flags. Fly on the snap. Fifty five yard catch and run for the electrifying saquon Barkley. Well. Five yard penalty. Personnel. Mad at is John Greco. Greg is a bad job. They're to go back to that screen because I'm going to give big guys love he comes out. And it's Nigel brat them who is sitting right there who has Parkway in Greco comes out of nowhere and just hammers throws him on his back. And then the next big block was by sterling Shepard who runs fifty yards to get in front of saquon to allow them to pick up a few extra. Good team football right there. So pack it up first and fifteen at the eighteen for New York, a tight formation fake, the hand up manic floated to the right wing drops the football Goldman had some room to work in front of him. The entire giants. Offense has been saquon Barkley. He's got one hundred thirty seven yards individually. The rest of the team is accounted for twenty eight yards that hit golf I'm in the wrong place. I rent enhance. That one right through admits if he catches turn it up. I'm not gonna say scores. He picks up five yards though, it sets up second and nine seconds and ten right in there. It would have been a nice pickup. Barclay remains on the sideline catching his breath. Shotgun formation for manning with seven oh, two to go first half. Manning Scott snap looks. He throws a line to the left incomplete in the direction of Goldman. And he was under a wash from Michael Bennett, which may have affected his vision. But he and Coleman now are motioning to one another as if they were not on the same page for you never see Eli do that to one of his receivers he is frustrated with Goldman became guy. The hand gesture like get out the flat. What are you doing? Maybe gave the double palms up, which is the worst. You wanna see from your quarterback saying, you don't know what the heck you're doing an immediately saquon Barkley comes in. Hopefully, they can get back on Saint peg giants are all four on third down. Manning out of the gun. Manning tosses the park the attack over twenty-five flag is down at the twenty two fifteen to the Barclay finally is dumped at the ten yard line. Short of the first down is manning was hit by Michael Bennett on the play. The flag is back at the twenty eight. Walk in the past. Automatic found. It is bet it landed on top of Eli manning on the hit. He comes in. And he does boy I don't like that. And he lands on a but he's rolling off. He's trying not to. I'm not sure what else he's supposed to do. I'm not gonna make comment. I might get fined by the NFL. Can they find broadcasts because I am so tired. It's like I read a stat. I think it's like eighty percent or seventy six percent. Roughing the quarterback called her up in this league this year. I mean, it's it's too much saquon Barkley single setback handed to him quickly running towards the left at he is drilled by Ronald Darby at the three yard line. It'll be second goal of the free. The clock is rolling six twenty five remaining in this first half fourteen three eagles. You look at the one that Michael bender got called on last week that actually led to a touchdown probably the difference in that ballgame he's getting blocked in the back push. It should never been a flag was not roughing it wasn't. It wasn't fishes. He fell into. The quarterback's legs. They're calling way too tight my opinion three receivers. Right. Manning fixed the hand off manning to is right throws on the move to the end zone, and it is broken up. He was trying to squeeze it. In sterling Shepard Jalen mills had the tight coverage. Your name. We have not called much tonight as Beckham only two catches three targets. Spend the Barclay saquon Barkley show what his offense is your wanna get anything going at all thirteen ODA Becca junior has to be a part of it. Beckham sets up lots of the left to receivers to the right on a third and goal from the three manic shotgun. He's got the snap. Manning looking to his left manic forced to drift. He throws to the end zone. Didn't complete. Did hit Scott Simon on the hands. He could not haul it in. And the eagles defense hold with Ronald Darby or good job. Great coverage. They were trying to get to Beckham. That's who they wanted. But now Jenkins and Ronald Darby to a great job of switching and then locking up in man. And so beca. Maxine just runs right into the coverage. They're thinking that the man is going to be able to run a pick route or a rub route. But because the eagles switch it. There's nothing there for you. I manning he tried to stuff it in their late. But good coverage by Dr chip shot from Alberic wolf sauce, and he nails it from twenty one yards away with that field goal. Barbasol will make an another donation to children's charities barbasol razors with close shave technology. Try the barbasol ultra six plus razor today. The eagles fourteen giant six with five forty four to go. Oh, second quarter. You're listening to Thursday night football on Westwood One. From a bear messing up the car interior to a dear damaging pool liner. We've covered it talked to farmers..

"Pretty sure who's been on the team for multiple years, and one of them had to blitz and the other had a play coverage on Davis who've been killing all game, and they chose choreographed to blitz. Which is when you do when you have liabilities like you blitz, your liability, that is that is defensive coordinator, like to a one, and you're not bringing him because he's a fantastic Blitzer you're bringing him 'cause you're bringing six and you're just thrown bodies at it. This is not. Oh, Corey, Graham is a fantastic Blitzer. We need to send him. He's not doing his nervous. Exactly. It's not James not Taylor wrap. This is an avant Matic's in off coverage, so has to deal with to go go line Corey games like that, right. There is just a story for how this coaching staff trusts Corey Graham, in my opinion. So we don't know that number two, we don't know why Jalen mills. And Ronald Darby seemed so unprepared for a coverage that they have played before successfully at all. You can call an inverted cover to frame Duffy's caller, cover, three robber. I'm calling Tampa to Robert. 'cause it's basically tap into this is what I landed on Tampa to covers the coverage populist by the bears, Brian. Lacquer you're playing basically like cover to yet in quotation marks, but really that middle hold defender is flying down. The middle of the field is going super deep. So basically comes three coverage, Tampa to coverages. Tampa Bay a Jon Gruden, Tony Dungy this popular Brian Urlacher is like the last middle linebacker could really pull it off in that. Then coverage died for a reason. Another eagles brought it back, but we call Tampa to Robert because instead of the middle linebacker dropping back the deep safeties coming forward as a robber cover three, Robert, Tampa to robber, whatever. Okay, sounds like cover two inverted, but go ahead. I mean, yeah, just words but were yet. No, I think you know, when we talk about inverted cover to you assume that that deep safety is coming all the way into the middle hole instead of staying a little bit further back which I have opposed by time drops on immigration that breaks down literally all of this. So go Henry that and and love and share with your friends and make fun of them because they're dovey. But you're smart. Okay. And the third thing we don't know, Mike is how the loss of Ryan McLeod led to mass hysteria and confusion dealing with tight sets tights, let's and bunch since and route ten will my God end. We had a nice Brodmann Jalen mills of both go out to cover a running back swing to the flat, which is generally conceived of as the third responsibility and the least dangerous of three routes. When you've got two receivers, typed land, scrimmage, running back releases to the flat. That's your third priority that balls again, thrown two yard line scrimmage, you know, again, the running back wheeling the field, so good that they were there, but they're two of them and Corey davises wide open the middle of the field. There was the one that you showed against a bunch set with Sydney with Malcolm, where I think watching it Sydney was in the wrong, but it's very difficult to tell his in Christ rules. It's it's what had knows city's got the -pointment mills on the outside there. Taggered unders motion. Corey grant comes over. The communication is already happened. Knowing communicates anything different. So it's looking like it's supposed to be a switch between mills and Sydney, but then Corey, Graham was like doing his own thing, covering his own man. It's a bunch. Those rules were whatever you were doing. Grand needs to be different than what that was. It was so confusing off of what the difficult thing with figuring out what rules are being implied on a bunch set is the rules for who covers who changes based off the releases..
Patriots Release WR Jordan Matthews After Significant Hamstring Injury, sign 1-year deal with Erick Decker
"What does he go play outside in a different sport now? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean six. Nine, whatever you gonna play when he gets blasted over the middle, is he gonna come back to the bra, took you seem stitching. His nose play with a mass drop sixty one on on on on the Hornets as broken. No, but he. Loved asked, and he'd be going around with a different mentality. That's a whole different ball football and basketball player. The why differently? Enough, realize it always comes back to this guy at some point. Thank you for being here. It's always good to get. Tom Brady is wide receiver group seems to constantly change and the patriots Jordan Mathews yesterday after he signed a one year deal this off season, but he reportedly suffered a significant hamstring injury on Sunday, the patriots maybe adding former titans wide receiver, Eric decker who worked out for the team this week. And yes, remember they will be without Jillian men for the first four games of the season. Shannon, what does this tell you. Kills me that a coach Bela checks. You gonna pull some weight or you guys to go. He was, I guess he was practicing whale playing well, and then he got Nick hamstring and coach Bela check says, you know what? You're not going to be doing this any good rehabbing on our dime. So we'll let you go ahead and go bring air Dicker and it looks like they're gonna sign deck, Jordan Mathews skip. I mean he really hasn't played well since he's left chip Kelly. I mean close to nine hundred yards. I two years, but he's always had this injury almost half thousand. Yeah, he's always had this injury bug that just popped up and I'm sure that factor the coach Bela checks decision of, yeah, you know, I was kinda hoping you're over this bug. Now, the last couple years deck has also suffered the injury bug, but I do believe that Eric decker is an upgrade over Jordan Mathews. He had his best years playing who skip pate, Manny. So you have a guy in Tom Brady that knows what he's doing with the football knows where to go with the ball is in complete command of this offense. And so I expect him to is big debt comes in this offense. I can see him catching. Forty fifty balls especially with Ellerman being the first the first four gay. Hell gronk it's still there not. He's still look at Tom Brady, Tom Brady can win without grunk, but you look at his numbers when gronk on the field. And you look at his numbers when gronk and on the field, this ubstantially different and plus decades. The mole grant Etima you know, they got Gatica got all all the Gallic, a guy. He likes to kind of look, Chris HOGAN. Now. L. look like. Thing shattered shock. I've been trying to tell you for two years Bill. Bella check can get away with near murder when it comes to the white outs this because it just doesn't matter. He has the greatest quarterback in the history of pro football who's also to use your term the greatest makeup artist ever because he can just cover up all the blemishes. It just doesn't matter. Just giving that guy, Joe Smith investors. Investors as the greatest ever. You know what Joe said that under. So. Look what just happened. Jordan Mathews was sort of the off season Saini by the New England Patriots because June Matty's dot, some ability. He played at my school Vanderbilt, and he is still the SEC all time career leader in catches and yards caught. That's pretty great, Nancy. See, it's a pretty good. It's right. And he's still the all time. Career leader is Jordan. Mathews those three years in Philadelphia were they were great, but they were pretty good, right. And guess who fell in love with Jordan Mathews who loved him like a brother was walk into your got Carson Wentz. He loved him some Jordan Mathews and they traded Jordan Mathews straight up for Ronald Darby who's a really good player so that that shows you that buffalo really valued Jordan Mathews that he He was. was. That's that's pretty. That's eighty. Trae they needed receiver they had let wilder would grow in said, we walk and go market Goodwin was gong. Yeah, so they need. They need Darby's a first round talent. Yeah, he's a, he's a playmaking top to your cornerback and so they value Jordan. He's in buffalo, right? "They bring in sean jeffrey they bring in timmy jernigan they bring in jj they bring in ronald darby they were able to be aggressive because they're not carrying a huge quarterback contract on their books with that means well you bring in a guy with a big number like jeffrey or you can acquire young player who's also on a rookie contract and know that at least for the time being you can take care of that player to after a little bit of a trial period i think darby jernigan would fit into that already paid jernigan and so the eagles sort of drew blueprint there where and i think seattle did this a few years ago when cisco to degree to when they're quarterbacks around rookie deals like seattle was really aggressive when russell wilson was still on that rookie contract so they went to got michael bennet from tampa they got cliff april from detroit got percy harbin from the vikings and so i think that's sort of become the new model now is like all right we're gonna get a rookie quarterback ready to play once we've determined camp play now we're going to strike while the iron tot and we saw that with the rams right so we see them bringing in dominant sue and brandin cooks and keep ta leave to some degree the team we were just talking about the box right we've seen it with them they trade for vinny curry they trade for jp they sign ryan jensen from the ravens we've seen it with the titans who have marcus mariota on a rookie contract they go out and they signed dion lewis and they signed malcolm butler and so i'm like i think this sort of become part of the new model is like you get you get a really good quarterback on the draft and while he's on his rookie deal you become overaggressive and trying to take advantage that window you have before you say i mean if you think about it the first couple years of brady in new england it was the same way and then when they got him on that second contract it was only ten million a year which based on what the market was at that time really i mean that was what that might have been in the top twelve but it would have been on the lower end maybe in the top twelve in terms of actual cash dollars that were being paid to him and i think it's a fabulous point in that especially if you're drafting your quarterback in the first round and you get that extra year to be able to squeeze out with the option that might sort of force negotiation to where even in the first year or two of new deal you can keep those numbers manageable to where you don't have to blow up the rest of your roster i'm with you on that my number two is the aggressiveness of some teams this year i like what the browns did i like what the rams of done i mean they're to your off of your point what do they have with jared goff right now rookie contract so go pay dominating sue short term money to bring him in give up a first round pick to go grab yourself another wide receiver now on that one it was we weren't gonna pay sammy watkins sixteen million so let's bring in a guy to where we can control the salary a little bit but they were aggressive and doing so i talked to somebody in.

"To gentleman espn nfl nation bucks reporter follow her on twitter again as we continue to follow this jameis winston story that kind of popped up later in the week last week again about some discrepancies in the eyewitness accounts about his alleged involvement in a essentially a sexual assault groping a female uber driver ronald darby defensive back the nfl former teammate of his at florida state said that he was in the car when the legends that happened in it didn't happen but then another person brandon banks who serving a fifteen year prison sentence for rape and sexual battery said in his account that that was not the case and that jameis winston was alone in different uber ride later on in the night and that's when that happened and we'll just to you look at this thing and what the three game suspension that adam schefter reports is going to happen and we'll wait on that announcement from the league the bucks haven't made the playoffs and so seven their ten year playoff drought the second longest in the nfl behind the browns and i think we almost regardless of this situation in general and said that management has said it's not gonna impact their decision moving forward regardless of this they have to figure out if he's the guy if he's the guy worthy it's too late to determine if he was worth here the number one nfl draft pick those inside the organization say there was a lot of debate and a lot of argument those who even disagreed and we're all onboard and all in on jameis winston being a quarterback but he is who you've got the question is will is he the man that will be the man and who they need him to be to get them back to the playoffs in the near future certainly not going to be the guy coming up in the in the first few games next season no he's he's not going to be around and yes he was categorically undeniably great in college on the football field and he was probably deserve to be the number one pick but he hasn't exactly played like he's had his moments where you're like oh that's the guy and he's got so much talent and by all accounts knows the game between the ears to use the cliche just as well as anyone he's he's highly intelligent football player he knows how to play the position of quarterback it just so happens that he hasn't been an absolute super duper star and you wonder even be even going down a notch below that like is he is he good enough to not care or to minimize or to rationalize the off the field problems that you thought were behind him but are not now that he's going to be suspended for three games do you say you know it's not like you've been first team all pro leading us to you know conference championship games did the beast one eighteen games right in three years it's not necessarily if he like i feel like he's got to be on the last it's gotta be the last straw here like one more thing that's what i would do i don't even know if it's one more thing i just think it's if if this season does not go the way they anticipated the way that they hope with him at the helm or he doesn't show market improvement or or he keeps he doesn't minimize interceptions and all those things and then you couple it with this you know as genesis said what is it twenty one million dollars they picked the option it's due at the end of next season but that's not guaranteed i mean they can decide not to go that route and.

"That the allegations came out ronald darby and this is interesting because ronald darby was also with him the night in question in tallahassee win the woman alleged that that winston assaulted her darby came out and said that james was not the only person in the car with an uber driver that he was also in the car with him and that james was in the back seat he said that there was a third passenger in the vehicle that's where things really start to get interesting but he did not name that third person so for the last several months we've all been wondering who is this third person the third person emerges in an outside the lines report on friday wonderful job polythene fantastic job on this the third person in this in the super ride was brandon banks who was one of at least four four people at vanderbilt in a gang rape case and he actually was sentenced fifteen years behind bars for his role in this these guys were hanging out and i have to say i have some questions why winston a guy who has been so adamant about clearing his name and adamant that he did not commit a crime at florida state why he and why ronald darby were hanging out with with this guy understand winston and him were more acquaintances darby has known brandon banks for a long time while they were hanging out with someone who argue trial date set in a few months after this why he had a trial they'd already set for this for this gang rape and two people that were that were part of that gang rape had already been sentenced for the likelihood of him serving time was was very likely at that time and it was highly publicized so between that and also between the fact that the nfl they haven't released yet they're findings and they have not officially issued a suspension but of course espn's adam schefter came out saying the week is winning right now towards threegame suspension for him it's just not a good look for the buck starting quarterback so that's where we are right now interesting though is the fact that and here's where things get murky it's not necessarily that ronald darby lied or winston lie wide for sale that we have to see what the league findings are there were multiple uber ride so apparently all three men according to banks all three men went to a party and scottsdale arizona but that winston thanks said left on his own because he alleges that winston was was too intoxicated to stay there that night and so that's when he got an uber ride with the c mail around two am and that's when they went to the mexican restaurant and that's when he was alleged to have reached over and grabbed her in the drive through there general spn nfl nation bucks reporter with us on the hang out talking about james winstons expected suspension as gentlemen's adam schefter has reported he will be suspended for the first three games nfl sees no official word on that yet but jeddah i'm wondering to the best of your knowledge based on precedent and what you might have in terms of inside information on the nfl's side of this how they came how the investigation wet how they came to their findings and ultimately the decision that they they made last week well and that's the thing the nfl has still it's it's still been kinda quiet on their front i mean we do have some information obviously they have found something that they didn't like i understand gps tracking was used in the situation because one of the things you run into is okay so you have ronald darby to count you have james's account well now you also have the third person's account which is interesting because the league reached out to brandon banks but it's my understanding and based on what his attorney said that thanks said you know what i'm only going to talk to my attorneys present they didn't they didn't reach out to the attorney so but basically they found for my understanding enough information or enough inconsistencies and darby and winston said based on gps phone tracking and they were you know from what i understand required to hand over their electronic devices they found enough information that they found that something was a little bit and consistent there and it should be noted as well that we who was the one that headed up this investigation with the.

"And the steelers because of his own james's own idiotic decisions getting into an uber apparently by himself previously that night a few years ago with ronald darby and brandon banks the guy who has a rap sheet as long as who knows what from vanderbilt more questionable i feel decisions james is gonna get suspended three games given his unreliability on the field and off the field i'm not saying i pull the plug right now because i can't in june but i'd be looking for a new quarterback unless jameis winston gets his act together off the field and improves substantially on the field right now on the tampa bay buccaneers eight five five two one two four cbs miles in charlotte first up this hour on cbs sports radio hello miles hey how are you good i was just thinking while you were talking about this winston thing is i was thinking about brett farve and how the falcons pulled the plug on him and being young and immature and having spotty play on the field i'm just saying you cannot pull the plug unless you are sure this guy can't play this is your first pick and i you know you can talk about year four for rothlisberger where his stats really improved but i still remember that super bowl where he almost gave it away he's still has a super bowl record for the lowest quarterback rating ever to win a super bowl he threw three picks he was hugging the playoffs leading up to that he goes to be best roster in the nfl would they great coach i it's a totally different situation i'm not saying jameis winston is going to be in canton and i'm not saying you're wrong to be angry all i'm saying is you cannot pull the plug in to your short this is not a guy you picked up in free agency or traded for or third round pick he was number one overall and he is not twenty four yet i don't believe i james is twenty four i think you make a thank you so i think there's a valid point that okay you gotta be sure if you pull the plug i'm fine with that especially because they don't have to make that decision now there's no reason for tampa to make that decision second the four comparison is an interesting one because from what i've read and this is a little before my time when when far was picked in atlanta and then he was dealt the following year green bay i think the conventional wisdom on far and you never know if you can go back and prove this is that if far that stayed in atlanta it would have been a bad situation moving forward that farms career would not have ended up nearly two what it did if he had remained in atlanta so that's one of those like chicken or exit that analogy even make sense that if you're in atlanta falcons fan you're thinking boy we should've kept brett farve there is the thing that you consider which is well if far staying atlanta maybe the mix of farther the time with everything he had going on and the city of atlanta would not have ended up well i also had somebody tweet me bars said you got dangerously close to implying that we could give rothlisberger a little bit of leeway for his allegations because he's the better quarterback well first of all i'm not making any i mean i i it's hard when you.

"Today at the app store to follow up on james winston and the fact that he reportedly is going to be suspended for three games remember when it first came out winston had an alibi and that's ronald darby who served as a witness to this former florida state teammate of james winston now he said that he was in the car and james winston was not in the front seat that he was actually in the backseat well the nfl has done their investigation they determined that darby who insisted that winston did nothing inappropriate while receiving a ride from an uber driver had not been in the car for the entire duration of the trip so also what's even more troubling is ronald darby plays for the eagles served as a witness in the twenty twelve rape case against winston so serving as a witness there twice and it proved that he was not there the whole time for this dr darby said via a statement that when it first came up at myself and james were in the back seat i'm confident nothing inappropriate in nature happened in that car that evening and james did not have any physical contact with the uber driver the accusations are just not true if darby wasn't there for the entire car ride it's impossible for him to know whether winston did something that he should have done bought the nfl did their investigation and then they found out that ronald darby was not there the whole time i got a stat of the day here seton and then we'll get some phone calls so if you hit the music.

"And so I think they wait till that so that they have all the reports, they have the statement from the Uber driver. They have Jameis Winston and Ronald Darby statements so that they know what they want to ask and what they're thinking. And I think that. That might be what it is. You know what's interesting about him by the way Steve and I don't know what your opinions. I know you typically have a strong opinion on quarterbacks. I was looking and his numbers are a little bit better. Each of his three years, right? So his his quarterback rating has gone up all three years. But what I think is so interesting about it is specifically like, okay, so his quarterback rain's going up a little bit each year. But last year he didn't have a game where he had between ninety two and one twelve quarterback rating. That's a twenty point swing. So he's either below ninety two including a sixty nine point to sixty eight point four fifty, nine point five of forty, nine point two or he's above one twelve including like a one thirty or one thirty. One. He's like a feast or famine guy like he is wildly inconsistent. And I just feel like overtime, Steve, those are the guys that they'll always have a starting job somewhere. Because not many guys can play as well as they do, but their team will always be mediocre because he's going to have too many games where he doesn't really give you a chance to win. Yeah. What it also says to me is that here's a serviceable quarterback that when you have the lead is perfectly fine. When you've got that defenses on their heels does not know when you're going to pass. But if the defense knows you're gonna pass, they can stop you. Then the other thing I wanted to ask you about and actually before I even ask you about the other, the NBA draft from last night, I do want to mention bet q. l. because we are loving this thing..

"Be in the nfc championship game he should heed advantage to the bottom line and you can make a very compelling case that have matt ryan doesn't throw a crap pass on first and goal in a oneonone up with julio jones and ronald darby that it's not matt ryan versus drew brees tom brady and that the steelers decided the gis sleep walk through the first half of a divisional round game because maybe they were too preoccupied or didn't buy into the jags or whatever it was i mean you could've ended up with ben brady breeze in orion boy nra point that's a great deal i i like great it's not like breeze didn't ha had a horrible game at about half and and he drove his team to a gamewinning field goal that was one missed field goal away and i get you a you're also but you're also if in staff i am reality i am any but i i think their legitimate ifs but when they're three dominant defense is i mean what playmaker yes kaddoch can that got those teams that half with the eagles than to legitimately dominant defenses and then even the patriots are the best scoring defense since a week five wouldn't you may be a king and make a case that look into you mentioned matt ryan matt ryan same guy not certainly didn't get old over between 2017 ever 2016 28 2017 same skill position guy same everything not same everything only they could play who ignatz that's my point different coordinator the only thing that changes the coordinator so that so one and jared golf what changed their he was a bus six months ago now he's a hero what changed the coach by point is dominant defense and and savvy coach perhaps more important than having the the alleged or silly cuba at this here's here's this if you go through let's just go through the last super bowls tell me when i read off a team that didn't have a great defense they just so happened to have a rabid order exhibit pay pats falcons panthers broncos pat seahawks bronco seahawks ravens niners giants pat.
