The Disappearance of Sneha Anne Philip
"Blaring alarm. Won't dr ron lieberman with a start. His fingers moved instinctively across the bad feeling for the comforting warms of his sleeping wife sneha but his hands found nothing but an empty pillow from the looks of it. She hadn't come home to their manhattan apartment last night. It was two thousand one but snare didn't have a cell phone so he had no way to reach her. Ron let out a heavy sigh. He knew she often stayed out late and had learned not to expecter especially since she had time off from her residency at stanton island saint. Vincent's medical center. She'd probably spent the night at a friend's place still at annoyed him that she hadn't called. Ron pushed aside his worry. He threw on his scrubs and headed into work at the jacobi medical center in the bronx around nine a m. He emerged from a meeting and found his colleagues gathered around a television screen. He pressed forward to see what they were looking at. It was the world trade center building and it was on fire. Almost every american. Who lived through nine. Eleven can remember. Actually what they did when they first heard the news. Ron's first instinct was to call home. The phone rang and rang but snare never picked up in the chaos and panic that followed. Her name became one of more than nine thousand missing persons. Just another lost. Soul and a sea of casualties. They live near the twin towers. So ron initially assumed she was caught in the debris. Investigators dug through the rubble identifying the remains of more than twenty seven hundred people but snia never turned up. She's simply disappeared without a trace.
What Is the State of the Commercial Aviation Industry
"So let's dive into it. We're Most of the way through the conference this week. We've heard a lot. It's been a couple of days. A lot of presentations. Lots of people talking. I wanna start with a general feeling as to what the state of the commercial aviation industry is from what you're hearing if you choose one or two words. What would you say is the zeitgeist here. Ron yeah i. I'd say optimistic You know the one statistic that kind of jumps out to me is. There's took broad consensus that the industry could be back to twenty nine hundred air traffic levels by late. Twenty two mid twenty three something like that's where you know. The consensus here seems to be too depending on the platform depending on the market that kind of thing but a general optimism richer. What do you think yeah. you know. Strong agreement cautious optimism. We've never seen such a profound bifurcation between unprecedented traffic drops by the economy holding up. But usually they kind of travel he economic disaster coupled with traffic disaster. Here we only had one Bizarrely enough so i think is a feeling that is things returned to life so we'll degrade machine that is the industry can. What do you think about what the crowd here is thinking. I think bifurcation the word richard use and stole was going to use that word but but it is clear that there's a bifurcation between domestic international travel so when we talk about our peak as coming back. That's the mix. But i think i think the theme is that domestic travel is going to recover much faster. Us and china domestic travels fifty five percent of all domestic arba gays and In our in domestic travel is going to be back probably twenty twenty two and that probably underpinned some of the announced since we've seen from airbus about rate increases.

Do Your People Believe You Lead With Fairness
"For this week's episode. I wanna talk about the interview. I just had with ron carucci author of the new book to be honest. The book details four factors company should look at. When determining whether they're at risk for the types of headlines we've seen in recent years from companies like wells fargo and volkswagen. This is a true thoughtful thursday. Because i've been thinking about something. Ron said to me this interview all day. You'll be able to listen to him articulate all this much better than me and a couple of weeks when his injury publishes but i did ask him what individual leaders can do to ensure their words and their actions line up with each other and with high standards of ethical honest leadership. He said something individual leaders can do right away is think about and write down ten different scenarios that might fallen an or moral gray area. Then give the list of their people on their team and ask them what they believe. The leader would do in these scenarios. How would they react. What would the outcome be. But the other thing they need to ask people to do is time how long it took to settle on an answer for each question. Do the inherently know how their leader would respond or did it take a minute or two to feel confident in an answer. I i love that. He had to write these things down. Anyone listening right now. Who has heard even one or two episodes of the show knows. Lorenzo and i are huge fans of writing things down as part of these exercises. It's much harder to let yourself off the hook when your commitments are staring back at you from paper but the reason is stuck with me all day since our interview is because thinking about doing this exercise with people reporting to me made me a little uneasy. Now i'd like to think i'm an honest ethical person. I like to think my people would know in a millisecond. What i do ethically gray situation but even if i'm an absolute pillar of honesty and integrity if i've not been purposeful with my people on making sure they see examples of this all. The time is getting the benefit of team. Who believes in me like they. Should you see if you're a leader of people. The appearance of propriety is just as important as actual propriety. The appearance of fairness and ethics is just as important as actual fairness and ethics. Knowing that you do the right thing even if no one was looking is great but if your people aren't confident you do it. It doesn't matter so the next time you find yourself having to make a decision where leaned on personal values of fairness integrity or justice. Be vocal about your decision making process with people. Show them examples of why these things are important to you. You never know you'll need them to give you the benefit of the doubt in the future.

At the spring and summer 2020. There were nonstop protests and riots after the death of George Floyd cities were set on fire in companies in small businesses were looted across the country. Republican senators Asked, among other questions, how many people were arrested for committing crimes during the 2020 spring and summer riots in federal law enforcement used Geo location data. Dr. Fauci's Emails Prove He Knew of Wuhan Gain of Function Research
"Today is the emails now. I'm going to take a different approach at first novel. Go into the more conventional. Take here it seems as if the washington post has decided to actually do a rare form of journalism. They filled out a freedom of information. Requests that foia a freedom of information act in fact. We talked about this at length on our podcast yesterday. That filling out a freedom of information act is one of the few ways to actually hold these tyrants these despots accountable so the washington post has now published thousands and thousands of private emails from dr anthony fauci. Some of them are rather boring and answering questions to celebrities and producers how he has time to do that not exactly sure thousands of emails. Just saying thanks then. There are some groundbreaking emails. Now before i get into these emails. I do not believe that this is all a coincidence. I don't believe the washington post would do this that some sort of a wink a nod a gesture. A point from ron clain. You see. I think that somebody wants dr anthony out she removed. I believe that and this is reflected in the emails. We're gonna get into it toys. Always the emails isn't it so funny how that works. I believe that the evidence is now overwhelming that the chinese corona virus was manufacturing in a laboratory. I believe dr anthony. Fauci was more involved than people realize. I believe that he was intimately into the wuhan institute of technology because of that and because of now the sudden interest and finding out where the virus came from. And how the evidence is showing this the not come from a bat. This did not come from the himalayan mountains. This did not come from a wet market. This came from a biolab that dr fauci very well might have visited himself but we do know that. The national institute of health funded the wuhan institute of technology through gain of function research.

And i realized that you are on the scheduled to talk and i thought maybe it should be a different conversation. Maybe this is the perfect time to talk to to you. Ron and and first of all i looked at everything was transpired yesterday and i realized oh my god what happened to the republican party in this country. And i know that this is a common source of discussion but who better to be talking to right. Now i think I think that you are The i was thinking about this yesterday. Who's republican figure from the recent past. Who could have materialized yesterday and gotten that crowd's attention. I don't think a recent republican president could have done that. Think ronald reagan. Your father still has a place in the hearts and minds of many americans. And if i think if he had materialized and said please shut up and go home bet if done that am i. Do you feel the same way No i don't. I think we're way past that now. I wish it were true. I wish maybe it's wishful thinking on my part. I think your dad obviously is the point of making. "Hey there and welcome to a unique. And i think a bit unusual episode of conan. O'brien needs a friend as you're probably aware not a a political comedian. That's not my neil. You usually keep my opinions to myself but yesterday was a terrible day at the capitol. The storming by an insurrection est mob of the capitol building and it was such an upsetting day for me and my family and just everyone i know and i think for any sentient american. That was very upsetting day so We realized at that point and this is unusual. That a while ago i had seen ron reagan. Junior former president reagan's son giving Interview documentary and. I was watching him. And i'm a history buff. And i thought i'd really like to talk to him. He seems like he's a very smart and Of course also. He's very funny and witty. And so we arranged to set up an interview with him that was gonna be just a regular interview and then the interview was scheduled for today and today is the day after the insurrectionist attack on the capitol building. So it just so happens. That i was talking to ron reagan. Junior at this perfect time so we decided to make it kind of a special episode. We're just gonna talk about what happened at the capital. We're going to also just talk about what's happened to the republican party. In general and i think ron reagan. Junior has a good perspective on that and a unique perspective on that and we are going to let this go out unedited. It's not going out at the usual time. And i'll say is If you're not interested in hearing any discussion of politics right now. This isn't what you want from conan. O'brien needs a friend. You don't have to listen. will be Will be back with a regular show on monday. But this is something i wanted to talk about. So it's in your hands now. And i really really do I'm looking forward to this conversation. So let's get started ron reagan junior. Today's conversation is is a little different. I often talk to comedians about comedy. I occasionally stray And this is a complete accident. But i think it could very fortunate one Happen to be watching a documentary on the reagans and and the reagan era in office and has watching the documentary. I'm an amateur history. Buff and And behold ron reagan. Junior appears often throughout the documentary. And i'm watching him. And i'm saying there's a guy that's had a lot of therapy Appears who appears very. He just has a. You're extremely likable And and you're also someone who seems very nuanced and just a good human being. And i thought i'd like to speak to ron reagan. Junior i went to my bookers and i said. Do you think you'd wanna talk to me this all before the events that just transpired at the capital the charging now ron. I know you don't get out a lot. Yeah yeah let me start with about four years ago. Donald trump was elected president. The real estate tycoon. Yeah well listen that we have to catch you up on a lot and gilligan's island still cancels..

I think I think it's the cannot can ask one musical questions We talked about this on on Friday because it was the day that the Beatles landed in New York. And you were there to to greet them at the airport. Last night was when they played on Ed Sullivan. Do you remember watching them to. What was it sitting in my room watching him? Now you would black and white television the Where to televisions in the house? There was an neither was color. We did not get colored till nineteen sixty six on on a small television in my room and I sat and watched it and felt like screaming like everybody else felt like screaming. 'cause you understood that part of you not the cognitive part. The emotional part understood that this was changing your life this change in your life. It was the revolution in the beginning of the revolution of young people. Then and then we every twenty years as a revolution of young people. There's one now having to do with the environment that one didn't have to do with the environment we didn't know anything was was wrong about the environment with no idea. Something's wrong about the environment that one had to do with sex drugs and rock and roll. I mean that's you know so anyway. Yes I did see it I did. They did like five songs over. Quick right yeah they you know they were on three weeks in a row wants from Miami. I think yes and they did a bunch of songs and they did it twice and they were great But the songs didn't all sound completely like they sounded on on on the records I WANNA hold. Your hand sounded significantly different. And then Paul Pulled that song. Where his what's the tiller was you you were saying soy sauce sore? Who's this guy was going on anyway so I wanted to talk about the XFL? I watched I don't want to all of it. I went back and forth with the Golf I watched. I don't know the teams and I don't know the players I had a defenders and dragon. Yeah there's there's going GONNA be. Thinking dragoons every single. XFL Game this season if they make it through the whole season or even if they don't every every single once gives me is gonna be on television either on Fox or ESPN rabies. Everyone is going to be on which is a great way to make money though. I don't know what they sold the rights for. But it's a great way to to keep your product in front of the American public. There are this is the part. I absolutely absolutely didn't understand. There was a line on all these games. Don't even know players are you. Don't know the names of the teams. How you Bagwell? How these Games they do? I mean the the people making the lines have done the war on the radio to with your foolish enough enough. They've got algorithms. I don't know but I I mean they figure if you're foolish enough to bet on this more power to you not just that they had like season total over under one. There's WHOA total football. You can't name the teams in the League or not. I would assume the only guy ever heard of on the Washington Not Washington. DC team was was car deal Jones as well look like he had missed many meals. Yeah he looked to little John Hot three hundred and you know and and in the I I have heard of Landry Jones. Yeah Yeah I mean. There's both quarterbacks were thrown ground balls you know about a second second half was good like football second look like football football. So that's you know the Washington Post it coverage may or may not matter may off. TV It may. I don't know the Washington Post put. Yesterday's Today's two games in the roundup under the announced in the roundup not its own separate story under the announcement of the steelers signing wide receivers coach sign much. They don't have a dedicated. XFL What do we think so. I I was flipping around. I mean I I watched some of. It wasn't an appointment. They let you hear every play being called they are completely transparent on replay which was cool. That's career extra point is great the NFL should adopt it immediately just like the NBA took the Aba. Three point shot immediate. Just doing I didn't see anything with with respect to ratings but I know just anecdotally from social media and stuff it appeared like people were enjoying it. I mean it seemed to. I don't think a single person in that crowd bought bought a ticket just tickets to run around thirty bucks for defender free when the camera would pan to the crowd with some bloke doc deck down in a costume defender stuff you like. I really feel like he was planning to their words. I love this young people in this city. And you have time to do this if you're if you're ABC or FOX ESPN ABC Fox. And you don't pay for the House. You're insane okay. So you gotta pay the Ratings Point Point. They'll want an empty stated vendors dragons game on. ABC Three Point three million. Wow last year the ATF Ashraf first game two point nine million by way of context the ABC. Friday night debate. I'm sure you all watch three point seven so a football game between two teams. You've never heard of young players you know just three point three million by the way on regular regular. ESPN three point three million on a regular NBA game. You Kill to have to young college game. Don't get anywhere near that. On regular game in football by the way wasn't great. This wasn't a great to see the old Maroon and black and yellow on the sideline uh-huh Insane interview the clatter buyers waiting for the course now Zorno of course going to do but I was waiting for some courses. Ah Curses in Georgia was funny. Point was telling US quarterback be stingy. Now be stingy. Yeah well PEP Hamilton. Said you know. BE PATIENT CARD right to cardiology the patients. That's a double pass thing it was. Did you watch. I didn't but I'm excited. I will watch going. I'll be honest. I forgot all asleep and then I was was watching the Gulf but I was I was looking into the post coverage in this. It was very much angled towards my generation. Trying to say this is your chance to reconnect with football. Yes in a way. That's not supporting Snyder and asked handing out to great signs with the H.. T. T. D.. which we all know what the defenders like Ashtec sell the team De ed? I wish the morale in the world history tells us it won't last their stuff can learn some stuff from their stuff. The extra point was great. Yeah I like this with the replay. You know I mean and terrific uniforms so really. It sounds downs. Fast and people responded to that you need to see breakout stars early pant let me just say this is. Running clock was designed to get you out of the game in two two hours fifty. It was three ten three ten so you you know. That's that's fake news. That's a false promise but no no collusion. I watched it and Raba Watch. I wouldn't I'm not ready to watch the other teams at all your name. Would you go to a game. I I'm going I'm going. What are they paying him? It's cold all pick you up. We'll take the boys. Yeah I'm taking but you have to stay for the full game on. aww That's a deal breaker ladies imagine if you're watching local coverage if you saw him in the fourth quarter to with like a defenders packet is that who I think get is a jacket. What would it take one hundred thousand dollars? There's no amount of money on it's cold you know they're playing. It's too call now. If we get into fifty degrees to march to April like their last game is in April and then he could play golf. We'll no but I would. I would go to one game. I'd go to one. How long is this season? Does anyone know forty eight games. I forty eight Kim said yes. XFL No there's not a league so there's just seven Seven Games Division. Championships are April eighteenth and Nineteenth Accident Championship. Game April twenty going to wrap it up. FORBE's forty regular dealers season games in three playoffs. So that's eight games the team. But how do you do that. If if there's only eight teams in the league that'd be seven. We Bring Spears team at the end round robin the APP team. Some of these guys interested in that same week's game next week big match I ninety five DC guardians. I'm I'm sorry. The New York Guardians at the DC Dell next week to show. I never some players in this league. I'm sure our. Nfl Oh yeah you know not NFL NFL star capable because they'd be in the NFL guys. Christine Michael I saw over the weekend. He was only football in this half and Oliver Luck said he has no interesting signings. So here's here's something to be said The the D. League or the G. League or whatever they call it geely nobody goes to those games hundred. Go to those games. There's no interest in that minor league none zero and this is a minor league in football. And I'm sure they pay the house but at some point. Somebody's gotTA BY TICKET AND WE'LL SEE if they buy ticket. Yeah let me just In briefly note the passing of Robert Conrad at eighty four He's a tough guy knocking off when it was cool to talk guy. That battery battery shoulder said go ahead. Roger Roger Com passed away at the age of ninety two. So I will. I will do this briefly and we will get out of the segment. Roger pecan wrote On anybody's list of the top five to ten sports books of all time you will find the boys of summer. This was a reminiscence by Roger Kahn. About the days. He as a young sportswriter at the Herald Tribune. I think maybe the world telegram covered the dodgers the dodgers of Jackie Robinson. And Pee wee reese and Gil Hodges and Ralph Branka and Don Newcombe and Roy Campanella the one of the greatest most beloved teams of all time when they were in Brooklyn And it's great book. It is a great book by any stretch of the imagination. It's a great book and Roger Conroy. To a whole lot of books none as successful as that may be as good. But but none as successful as that in the mid nineteen seventies when the New York Times created. Something called Sports Monday. The first standalone sports section the New York Times had ever created needed. I was on the staff and Roger. Kahn was somebody who was brought in to write columns for that section. I met him once very very briefly. Pleasant pleasant you know. I don't have any other memory other than he was pleasant but he was the get. Here's the biggest name that you could possibly get in sports writing at that at that point And and the columns were. They weren't great because he hadn't done it in such a long time. It's Roger Kahn. For me he is the cautionary tales. A lot of people out there people say. Why don't you write anymore? Because I can't have that muscle anymore. I'm not going to go out there and make I make a fool of myself enough. I'm not GonNa do it in something. I really respect which is writing. I mean this stuff was okay but it wasn't great and that's sort of what happens because you just can't parachute in and do this thing like you used to do you. Could I would happily let you run my old work. I still wanted to anything new because I can't do it and he was really really good. This book stands alone. It's a great book. It's not what a great sports book. It's a great book. The boys of sunset great quantites not an IT predates Don Henley is in the in the times they quote themselves of course because it's times what they call themselves baseball book the Same Way Moby Dick Fishing Book. It's a great it's it is and it's a really great eight book so all right we'll get out of here and we will do old guy radio when we return where I will talk about the XFL. which I I watched as did I? I watched we talk all about it. I'm Tony.

Mr Tony Oni Also the tough afternoon for the wizards is they fall to the grizzlies and a good match. One of six to ninety nine. That was an early start about six last night. So I went in and out of that game. The wizards were up. They were up eight nine ten points in the first quarter in the second quarter was They were plus eight at the half. They were tied for much of the fourth quarter than John Morand. Who's going to be the rookie of the year? Had the first rookie triple double this year. Twenty seven ten and Tan. Did you see Bradley. Beal very good and then the next game. That guy doesn't look very good and they got to go to somebody else. Would you have on this team as a whole bunch of players. Who are okay okay? They're not real good. They're eighteen and thirty three. They're in a group with the Knicks and the Hornets and the Hawks and the Bulls and Detroit. Anybody one of them is going to make the playoffs. Yeah no one of them is getting into under five hundred record. One of them will get into the playoffs. They're just not very good team. And you lose at home like this. The the Memphis Grizzlies are far better this year than they have been last year the year before that they are better off without Andre Iguodala even on the roster. Yeah I mean. They've Jaren Jackson. Junior John. Moran both of whom are pretty good standing and Devon Brooks who was not good last night for for seventeen from the kid from Oregon Has Been Dillon Brooks yes and who has been pretty good. It's not a lot of people but the other question is the. It's the larger question him and this comes out of a conversation. I had with Steve Watson yesterday who was was at one point a Republican strategist and he posed. This and I'll I'll do it to Chris. At what point is Mike Bloomberg have to actually get his hands dirty and not just to fly over advertising which is very effective of and very lovely but what at some point. He's going to have to put his name on a ballot right. Yeah Marci Word People March third. He will continue to do fly over advertising. I mean remember That I the first four states are small what we call retail politics which means Nevada. Hands Minute Kit Right. The Nevada Nevada is a big state size wise but in terms of population. That's all in Las Vegas and Reno effectively and the rest of America to a democratic caucus south of Carolinas still a pretty manageable state after that the process opens up March third. which they're calling Super Tuesday? I think fourteen states vote including Texas and California which took the three biggest delegate halls. You can just run. T. In fact you probably have to just run teams. You can go do an appearance in Huston you know you can go to Sacramento or more likely. La into an appears. But it's not like Iowa where you spend eighty days there But he will be on the ballot. Starting March third in his goal is to rack up tawny delegates in those states. which by the way if you look at? There's not been that much polling done brief we'll get gun in California or Texas you know he's in the mix and again the best thing for Mike Bloomberg would be a a out or very badly damaged. Joe Biden heading into March third and as of whatever February tenth. That seems pretty pretty likely. Yeah okay. And he's now three hundred and fifty million on television advertising. which if you look up the Washington Post says this great graphic of what does whatever might bloomber expense? What is is that like in our life and I looked up he was at two hundred and fifty million and I looked up in my life? What two hundred fifty million is to me? It's it's a slot at starbucks. Excuse me that that's how rich she is and self made and this is like when Michael Jordan. That's a a lot of money and it. Just it doesn't mean anything Michael Jordan. It doesn't Michael Jordan. There's no amount of money in the world that Nike could pay him on a yearly basis. That would do the justice to what he has done for Nike. This just not. I don't care if they pay him a hundred million dollars a year. He's worth more than that. So what else the baseball Mr Tony. One deal dead. One deal has gone through We'll get to the deal that went through the mookie Betts and David Price Trade to the dodgers has finally gone through There are some problems with reliever or starting pitcher that The twins are going to send to the red sox medical mysteries. Whoa what happened here so? I'm watching watching Steve Young. He's not on all the time watching Steve Young and I'm just I'm rooting for him. I want him to do well I if they had one. I talked to Matt Kelleher about this if they had one. I said we should put Steve Young on for five good minutes simply talk about what you gotta stay out of. Phil's way you know I mean there's thing take a great athlete. You understand this intuitively how you supposed to be in and out of the picture. It's even more heightened when you're when you're that athlete versus the CEO's does Yes music Arnie. Yeah they're often in the shot you saw this number three Phil's trying to get out of the gates hot. He wants to win the tournament he hits a bad second and he immediately immediately goes over pulls out his green reading book and is giving Steve Young. The line right the pressure of that like I feel bad when I skim one with people I've known for years. You do it on TV with a professional golf. You're like I guess I'll hit it. Well Steve Young's case he has he's it's been the MVP of a super bowl in the hall of fresher understands. All of this put. I want to talk to him. I want to ask him. Did you feel nervous. This this is not your sport. How did you feel how did you? How did you engineer the choreography in an around Phil Mickelson what we thinking? What we feeling when you missed a pun? Did you WanNa just jump in a hole you know. I'd like to know that. Because in that particular case he Steve Young Young Fourteen handicap. And you're on all the time you know at so anyway that was. That was very interesting for me. I I was asked at home yesterday. I the preface was not a very good player. But if you got invited to this would you go of course and people get invited. Get invited time meantime. It's the same people all the time. I don't know how you get there but but I am. It's I am jealous of course but I am so happy for those who get the thing with someone who would get an all of these two old now. I can't play from where they play. But all of these. CEO's host. They're always a two. They're always until every play every day. You didn't see anybody carrying a tiny six to see anyway. That was so that was fun for me. So we'll take a break in. If that doesn't work Kjell representative until a worker. Man Avails himself. And that's it's a lovely note and I remember this album. Well because it's got good thing on it and hungry and you know these are these are old time rock and roll songs in the days before rock and roll got nuanced. You know but it was fun. Was it good thing that was in Once upon a time in Hollywood yeah. That's that's how that's how I remembered the album and all of that. And what does this other stuff that we've got. Oh this is a lovely calendar grand rapids ballet calendar. I already have one sent to us by rate nod. Okay right cool. No No the other ray and this is a book by Jim. Flynn yes yes be sincere even when you don't mean it so I've lived my life that we might Clyde show soon just to describe. You can fake sincerity. You can take just about any exactly when people sent blank cheques. No for us to fill out now. That would be helpful for situation. No no I'm I'm not get into There's a couple of things that were going to open with. We're gonNA open with things actually that the Gulf happened over the weekend both yesterday and Saturday and of course Friday and Thursday and the UNC Duke became almost dealt with the UNC game because the it look the UNC. Duke game is a fabulous games fabulous game. Even though it shouldn't have been duke should would have one with a certain amount of comfort but there's a there's A. They released this before the game. That over the last. It's either over. The last hundred games names that the two teams have played or over the last fifty games. It was either that it was fifty to fifty or twenty five to twenty five and they had scored the same amount of points the aggregate amount of points. Where exactly the same fake news? People who who think that do Carolina isn't much there you know. It's like Ohio State Michigan. Of course it's much stop. It's a big deal. It is a big deal. It's a big deal Michael. How did your house sold you have a dookie? And her father is North Carolinian. So so how did how did that work in your do. They contact each other during the game. So Chan famously cannot watch the games. If it's closing. He cares about but Sunday morning. A little baby boy. Buzi was saying Goad Duke on a tough with GRANDPA bright and that was hard for Chan terrible but his daughter lives group Carolina Linux fan but now but she went to Duke's went to Duke This was inbetween bath time. So I- relief her to relieve Walker duties. I'm reading him because I figured with six seconds left in the game it looks over. They'd missed act and back and back these these easy lay ups and he thought they had a chance and they didn't so I wanted her to be able to to go downstairs. I come downstairs after reading going to bed book we read. Daniel Tiger goes to bed and Overtime let me let me say this. How did you NC lose the failure failure? Rebound oh Mike. It is possible for Duke to get the game into overtime. It's impossible and in overtime. It is impossible for two. Oh Oh they're down in the last thirty seconds in both situations six or seven though they cannot win the the only people the people banging their heads against the wall and then laughing North Carolina they go to Maryland because they know what Duke did to Maryland now in the last twenty seconds of a game and it wasn't it. This isn't a great duke team. It wasn't the duke was great. I will tell you the trae Jones was really really good. North Carolina couldn't get the ball inbounds so they could not could it. I'M NOT GONNA go chapter and verse in this because I don't remember it. I'm just going to tell you as Chris suggested it's not possible North Carolina to lose to get out a regulation without winning. It's not possible. For North Carolina's lose in overtime. He Jones does the thing that never works beyond like Fifth Grade Basketball Smack smash not only does he throw misses it on purpose but it somehow comes back to him. No no no no not not. Did you not hear the interview. Afterwards they practice afterwards. What he said was gone? Shyer who's a member of a national championship shooter. John Shire has him practice practice. This he has a move a couple of steps to the right and throw it like that off the rim where it rebounds everytime exactly right about Trade Jones Thorwald were but even then even then grabs it and dribbles it through three poeple instill makes a really difficult shot. He doesn't make the shot. The other Kino veterans regulation misses the foul shot. He's into the game. Oh He's a kid. He's the one kid last year who everyone thought might be able to go first round but he had a poor year and he came back and I don't know what he's going to be as a pro. There's a million guards from Duke and North Carolina and Kentucky a million guards the NBA and three quarters of a million of them aren't great like they were in college. They just aren't. Yeah because it's tougher and it's not A. He's not an elite shooter. which usually do these small but that game was spectacular? After after the game. She Chef Ski said and he was one hundred percent right. I understand. Carolina is in a down year but that was Carolina. Well they have they. They had colon anthony back. It's like his second and couldn't down the ball. He is a dynamic. Yes layers create shots for others without him. They have nothing. Yeah there's not I mean they're they're wreck day are as per cell. Says I guess what the record says they are but they're not ten and thirteen withheld lamp. That's ten and thirteen against Duke right or not. So there was that Roy afterwards and Roy Wary now in his late sixties of how social media can destroy your life in ten seconds. Destroy Your Life. If you pay attention to it started started saying we're not pansies and it went. ooh maybe maybe I can't use that word is at all I mean by that. Is there people who don't compete. And we compete and tried to talk his way around in and out of it and he probably probably did and at the end he said I'm not going to quit. I quit my team's not gonNA quit. WE'RE GONNA be out there practicing. That was really great. Watch devastating home loss for a season. 'cause over I understand but that's a that's one that you can say well. We were terrible this this year but we beat Duke. It's a it's a well you'd still have another chance at do a different dude at home. It's going to be hard a great time to get that on at six o'clock so he could see what happened in the eight o'clock. Yeah you can watch all of it. I mean it was really really. That was as good a watch as sports provides. It really was as great. The other thing for me was the was the golf tournament which I watched almost every shot of in a guy named Nick Taylor a Canadian who has won once before before on tour. This is his second win in one hundred and sixty starts. It's he went head to head with Phil Mickelson when everybody. I don't know about everybody but me. I certainly thought Phil Mickelson was GonNa Win Phil. Mickelson was minus three to six six or seven and was down shot on the day. The other key eagled. The other kid got in trouble a couple of times but won the tournament on the fifteenth hole when he chipped in which he did chipped in for Eagle Prior to that on two or three whatever hole that is phil probably lost Probably lost on eight and nine even when he was plus three Phyllis plus five after the seventh hole. It was not a great Phil. Mickelson performance notice really fun to watch. I thought it was really fun to watch. They were playing in big wind STROMAN got into second place film Mr Pot on eighteen which would have gotten him into the massive dig win the big finish for team Johnny L.. Because he's wearing the big logo Truman's wearing the big logo Taylor was was minus two on the day. Hey which is all you really have to be in. The wind was enormous. If you don't like golf I understand. That doesn't mean much but Michael. What did you think of Taylor? And what did you think Phil so this is people are going to be asking this week. Are we really watching the final phase. The Final Act of Phil Mickelson. He's tried to delay it with his entrance into social media with the fireside chats with the attention to his body trying to reshape what he might be able to do as he turns fifty years old. This summer this tournament meant a lot to him. He's one more more than a handful of times. He has connections to pebble gum five area because of his grandfather. That story has been widely circulated chatty a caddy and they did the commemorative silver dollar dollar giveaways to all the competitors. So this was when he really wanted an everything was lining up for me at tough conditions. He had what became a match-play situation and golf often. We have to look look at the three arcs of it. We have the opening six. We have the middle six and we have the final. Eighteen are the final six on this course you have to score early and the wind made it really hard. A lot of those holes. Were down and wind. You think that'd be easier for the end but for the pros it's harder to control the spin. Get the ball to end where you want it to end. He played super aggressive from the start. And got up ahead. But it is exactly what you said eight nine or two of the hardest holes on the PGA tour eight might be the most perfect par for golf in terms of where you have to play the top of the hill and and he gave up probably net overall hundred yards. detailer off the tee on those tools. He laid back and he saw a number nine. He played the wrong club. I think foued said he was at leased. One Club unless shots. This happened a lot. He was short. You saw phil. At the beginning of the week saying everything was about his mindset his visualization what he wanted wanted to see the ball do and really he was off the mark for the entire back-nine you then saw him miss club or miss shape shots in that fourteen. Fifteen stretch where he was sailing hole on twelve. He might have gone long by thirty or forty yards But Still Taylor led him in it after that double that he had on fourteen and and as soon as fill his bunker shot to about a foot and a half you think on on fifteen. Here's fills opening. He might be able to push something at the end and then the kidnappers then he nails it and now is the tournament and so it was fun for me to watch. What is particularly fun for me is this is the one tournament on the PGA tour where amador's play and they play off for days? Yes they can if you're if you make you make the cut and they have to show you on TV when you get to the final day on the weekends so people that like we don't know Chris O'Donnell Donald but he's John O'Donnell's brother. Yeah so you look at Chris. O'Donnell I wrote Johnny Owen. Note saying why are you on the bag and he said No. I'm not on the bag this time. Time Because he had done that before I think he'd caddied for his brother and took a shot at his brother's saying Christmas. The cut again trump slamming. You get you know if you're invited did once you're invited. Lot Larry Fitzgerald has now won this thing twice with Kevin Stroman.

Can I talk about these stories and I talk about these stories because the kids might think you're not the only one's going to you know saying y'all do how much rather be suit and tie. You know what I'm saying a word but we do. They have nobody to go from the era where they were standing outside else that I was on. Nobody outside coming over river cans downside. It was standing outside like they need to hear that needed. No like Oh Ron R. tests grew up with family members selling selling dope or whatever look you world champion unit saying I never was a I'm a health conscious guy exception of Henny shopping yet. A couple of people were really not not publicized when you come from the shots tough. It's really tough to make Chicago Chicago. You know what I'm saying. I mean, if you go through and you'll hear all about it, his titles from Apollo thirteen to A Beautiful Mind where he won the Oscar frost Nixon, but really going back even to night shift in nineteen eighty two, which was the first big movie. He kinda did where it proved that he could be a director coming out of happy days and coming out of the Andy Griffith show. People weren't sure if they should. Take him seriously as a director did nightshift with Brian Grazer. That was their first collaboration. Now they've had imagined films. They done a million great movies together. Then he leapt from there from splash, did you know Ron Howard directed splash? He directed cocoon movie that also went Oscars and it went on and on from there. He's an amazing guy. He's got this reputation as being a regular, normal grounded guy. I wanted to test that, and I found it was absolutely true. Couldn't have been a nicer more charming guy, and he's been in show business since virtually the time he was born in Oklahoma, his parents were actors. They moved on. I think he was four years old to Hollywood. He was in his first production when he was eighteen months old cylinders, and he did his first green tests for the Andy Griffith showing was five years old show started when he was six. So he's been a star since he was six years old and says, as you'll hear from the beginning, he really wanted to be behind the camera. But all these opportunities came. Up acting and now things have worked out pretty well. He's the director of the new Star Wars movie solo, which is the back story. The origin story of Han solo as you'll hear in our conversation, he did talk to and consult with Harrison Ford about what Hans solo should look like as a young man how Han solo might have behaved as a young man. People are pumped for this movie. It comes out on may the twenty fifth over Memorial Day weekend. You'll hear that at all right now with Oscar winner. Ron Howard on the Sunday sit down podcast. Thanks for doing this Ronn shit. So tell me what the phone call was like about a year or so ago when you get the call that we need you to step in sort of midstream and take over the new Star Wars movie. Well, it was it. It was a, it was actually at a at a breakfast that I was. I was having with with Cathy Kennedy and Larry Kasdan who's the the, the writer and his son, John was the co writer and and was just about sort of stuff in general. They're all they're all friends of mine. I was in London working on a bunch of other projects, and it just sort of came up very casually and I was surprise bloomed for them that they were going through that that that kind of said of creative differences that they'd have to consider doing something drastic. And so you know, I I, my first inclination was you know, not not to engage in what I what I really, but I really wanted to do is understand what if. If they knew they were that they felt like they had to make a change. You know, Chris Miller and Phil Lord aren't wildly talented guys at imagine entertainment. We would kill to have their next movie or TV show, whatever it is. They're just, they're great. They're great. And. But once once I understood that they were, they were definitively making a change. And then I read the Kasdan script. I really felt like I, I could bring something to it. I felt I understood it. And also just as a fan, I thought that that what what they had captured was a lot of really fantastic answers to the questions of what what are the advance, what are the relationships that might have shaped? You know. Young Han solo young swagger and Han into that person that we know later and the answers were. So it was surprising and yet really satisfying and entertaining. And so I, I felt like if they were really going to make a change and that that I thought I understood how to tell that story. So how far along in
