Fresh update on "ron rivera" discussed on The MMQB NFL Podcast

"Mean there is a segment of the population that is upset. With the name change they align fairly politically with what's going on right now and you know. What would snyder do right? Call them the warriors. Ron Rivera had referenced the military for some reason in Washington statement. About changing reviewing the name changing process, so make this team just steeped in this sort of. Strangely hard to define Trumpian, military aesthetic, and you know, call the Americans call them the warriors, and you're basically thumbing your nose that everybody that forced you to change your name in the first place. Yeah and I guess this kind of fits into whites Ron. Rivera's comments were saying to honor the military, which was sort of. A head scratcher when I saw the statement he talked a little bit further to the Washington Post over the weekend, and he said that many native Americans serve in the military. So that was what he was referencing I think it's a strange connection to make though it sort of it just didn't seem to fit into the conversation, but yes, since Ron Rivera has apparently seen a couple of the name options. Connor I think it's a fair bet to assume that something along these. These lines is being considered very disappointing. I think show or performance by him in general. When we had talked about this two weeks ago on the show when he was asked about the name change, and he said that this wasn't a discussion for right now, and then all of a sudden when the press release came out, it was apparently a very deep issue for him and his family like you know an I, just feel like we need to start cutting the shit like you. You know like desperately. Cut The shit and be honest about what your thoughts are. What your opinions are because what? Who Is this surfing to this double talk and to try to get out of the question, and then to come back ten minutes later when it's a pressing issue, this is like I mean coaches have always been politician one on one, but this is serving anybody at this time. I mean this is just a ridiculous way to to, and we've seen with the capture. Capture Nick stuff to you and I've talked about this, too. It's like everybody's so aggressively straddling both sides of the line, but you don't have do anymore. I mean the everything's broken wide open. You don't get punished for having controversial opinions any more apparently, so just say what you feel. If you think that that should be your team name, at least be honest about it and don't say it's important to you one minute, and then it's not important to you the next minute. Twenty twenty has been a strange year, but my great hope for this year is that we can come out of it with exactly what you just said. Just cut the shit. That's really what I would like to see. That would be. Outcome of twenty twenty if no Rentis, twenty twenty. Two shifts. We would be a viable third party candidacy with that just. Sounds like we'd have to go up against Konya but All right next name. Suggestion the red tails red clouds. are like both of these. Because the red tails was a runner up in a rename Washington contests, I think it was six years ago. and you know someone went outside the box. It wasn't even one of the pre determined nicknames that you could use but this person thought it would be a good idea. To honor the Tuskegee, airman and I. think that's a really cool idea. The red tails on the back of their planes. A lot of this was based out of Alabama, where the training was. This was a super diverse group of colored Americans mostly African American but Haitian American Caribbean American Latino American soldiers that fought in World War Two and I think that would be really cool, I mean because that's yes, I mean. Is it based somewhat in Tuskegee in Alabama? But that's a very American story that you know for whatever reason we tend to overlook when we'd like to bring up our fairy tales of history, and all this kind of stuff, but this is something that people could get behind, and it involves a lot of different components and elements and I. Don't know you know and as the. The user who created? It said you wouldn't even have to change the fight song. Red Tails fits in just the same. You know I don't know you wouldn't have changed the color scheme I think it would be you know I I think that would be a neat name. just like bread clouds, you know. Red Cloud was famous native American military chief war hero, someone who's actually brought to Washington, and celebrated for his exploits on the battlefield you know, and again would not have to change a whole lot and I think that now I don't want to speak for the native American community but I think. Maybe naming the team after someone like that would at least be more agreeable than what they have. Now where you're at least kind of showing some sort of deference for the history of their culture, a little bit. Yeah, that seems to fit in a lot of different levels, connor, either of those two options as you mentioned, it would be a somewhat seamless transition which could be priority if they're trying to roll out a new name and everything for the twenty twenty season. It seems like something that would kind of be easily. Fit into where they're at right now, which may be perhaps keeping the color scheme and so and as you mentioned you know the wording and fits into the fight, song and everything, so that is a is a really good idea I think Onto option number three, some kind of iteration of hogs, you just do the hogs. The battle hogs, the war hogs. You could do the drain the swamp pogs if you want whatever you know, Johner. That's good. I'm sorry I had. Joe Bugle the team's legendary offensive line coach. Pass away earlier this year, and was really the architect of that Joe Jacobi Mark May Russ. GRIMM JEFF boss. That that big powerful offensive line in the late eighties early nineties that propelled them to the Super Bowl wins. You know that is half the team. That's sort of their secondary mascot. Anyway, right? Everybody wears the pig masks. Everybody has the shirts with the hogs on the many way, and this is a way to sort of just I. Mean if you're I think this would be the easiest way. To just move on without any sort of pushback from the fan base, you're basically adopting your secondary mascot as your primary mascot right. Yeah I think that makes a lot of sense. As you mentioned you know there's there's hogs haven. There's all these fans sites that are built around this hogs secondary mascot so that could fit in pretty well. Your next option is in the Washington vein. Senators President Federal's founders. Be a little bit tougher to do. Right now is GONNA say. Especially to, I mean because now there's like now. Finally talking about American history in the right context, right the fact that many of our countries founders were slaveholders that the words of the Declaration of Independence didn't apply to all like we're finally putting history in the accurate context, and so I think there is certainly less of a romantic station of American history. Yeah, and you know we saw The Washington nationals baseball team. I mean. There was a senators team back then, but I think it's harder to..

Get that jelly of the month Club on more serious NFL news. More than a dozen native American leaders and organizations have sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell calling for the league to force Redskins owner A Dan Standard to change the team name immediately there in Washington. The letter was sent on the same day that President Trump Voices opposition to any name change by the team. Head coach Ron Rivera said he's been working with Dan Snyder, the honor of the Washington Redskins for the past several weeks. On a name James in a gym. Someone came up with a good one. The Tuskegee Airman, We're known as the red Tails. On DH. If you know, we know the history of what those black pilots meant to 15 is absolutely so red Tails might be kind of a cool name for them. They're also talking about warriors. That type of thing They do want to tie in some sort of positive. Native American factor with it, so they'll be working on that the next couple of weeks. Speaking of the Redskins, three minority owners are seeking to sell their shares in the team because I'm not happy being a partner with owner Daniel Side of three men who combined on about 40% of the team have hired investment banking firm. Report: Redskins' minority owners threaten to sell

"So the big debate was going on this weekend about. The Washington football team right and their new nickname, so if you don't know what's happening, the Washington redskins are probably going to change their name Adam schefter reporting that Fedex basically said all right enough is enough. Three of the minority owners which own forty percent of the team had told Daniel Snyder. They're out if he doesn't do it Nike has put pressure on them, so it's now happening. Ron, Rivera has finally put some pressure on them and by the way all the stuff. Did you see what Jeanie Buss tweeted about this greg? Now what she's saying. She was on July second, so it was right before the weekend and I re tweeted it for those that didn't get a chance to see as you can. you can see it at Sodano. And I thought. She made an unbelievably compelling argument. I thought it was fantastic on her part. It was talking about at the time. Nike and Fedex and Pepsi. Ties with Washington. And, she wrote the argument I've heard. is about the argument for keeping the name? Quote if we changed the team's name. We lose our history. My reply, and by the way she's right. That's what most people are saying. which is kind of silly, but I thought she surmised they're perfectly. Jeanie, said my reply. It's human beings. She writes in capital letters who created the memories and won the game's not a logo. She wrote in caps. A change in name will not alter what art monk Dexter. Manley Darryl. "Prince George's County in places like AKA Kiki in Suitland. No Injuries reported in ST Mary's County, part of a road buckled and crumbled. Michelle Bash. W T o p New 6 12 Maybe you felt the Earth move a little last week now that Redskins owner Dan Snyder's made an about face and agreed to explore a name change for the team. The public moment, Um, for such change is moving at Avalanche speed. But when it comes to the actual process of changing the name of a pro sports team, it's a lot more complicated. Then just declaring a new name. That's bringing up questions about whether the team will have a new nickname. By the start of the 2020 NFL season. Adam Kilgore's national sports writer for the Washington Post. He talked with me earlier about what needs to take place with the team to switch names. I was talking to the expert with the only people who can put the league about Rebranding, you know, Typically, this process is gonna take about two years. You know when the weather to change their name from the bullet that took about two years from start to finish, getting focus groups together legal trademarks. Redesigning a website, you know, changing stadium sign. It's changing the envelopes, stationery gig use across all departments of the franchise, so there's a lot to it. I think it's possible to pull it off before the season like Ron Rivera said that he hopes, too, but I don't think that it's ideal for sure. Andi, there would be a lot of issues that would come up trying to do it so quickly. However, ah lot of people are expecting action. Now sew, according to the people you're talking to. What should the team do at this point? Well, they have a few options. I mean, I think there's one option that's a little bit inelegant but could be a solution is you just played 20 twenties and that is the Washington football Club or something along those lines, and then you take your time in a roll out the new brand after the season that's difficult to create computer among fans to create confusion in a sort of lack of identity. But the problem with trying to change the name quickly before the new season is won. It's possible there's not enough time to do all the work necessary both legally and physically, So don't have a lot of good options, because, as you said, there is pressure this is not a typical rebranding is immense. Political pressure, you know, to change it in a lot of different directions. It will be very interesting to see what they choose to do that if you want that's Washington Post national sports writer Adam Kilgore. "Because You got a new head coach, and suddenly I don't know whether he knew he was going to get this amount of power. But Ron Rivera is like the footballs are now and apparently the business making decision making darkest ciders out of the country. And this is all on his plate. And if it happens, it has to happen in short order. What's a reasonable name? You know, it's a great question, because you know when you listen to what Ragnar Varis said, And then what? You know what? You were just talking about that that that's the new name will be something that at least attempt Clothes on or the military and to honor native Americans. Well, that you know that becomes problematic because again that gets back to the fact that well, whose opinion or we're going to use on this, You know if some people are still offended by the new name That does that mean that it's it's not valid. So you look at the names that have been thrown out there and in the past and again being thrown out there now there was a time when when this was going to get Arena League team he was going to name it. The Washington Warriors that Something that's going to going to beat this being talked about now. Another one that's being talked about now is the Americans where you sort of honor Native Americans by saying that these were the original American. So you call the team the Americans, and I think part of that also will not just be the name but what you know what's the logo? What's the imagery going to be that goes along with the name so I think when you when you talk about it, and based on what Ron Rivera said This attempt to honor native Americans. Well, that was the attempt in the past. So certainly when you get what one of the term Redskin and replace it with another term, that is at least going to make it better. But is that going to make it all right and again, It's going to be a matter of opinion. It's going to be subjective rather than objective. So I think you know these are our significant issues that problematic issues. The complex issues and we don't know what the name is going to be. Yet we'll wait to see what the name is. And then we'll say, you know, is this still okay with people and I don't know that it will be in everyone's All right. Ah, ah! What about the quarterback position? You're still paying Alex Smith. He thinks he wants to play football. I don't know if that's possible. It's amazing that he's even walking and has a leg. I mean, like he's a remarkable dude. Dwayne Haskins. Obviously, you know, it feels like he's grown up in the off season, but that's all talk. Ah, and then I think what's amazing is Ron Rivera coached Cam Newton. Cam Newton could have been had for, you know for pennies, and obviously they had already, you know, made a trade for his backup in Colin Ragnar very even said I wouldn't bet against Ah, Cam Newton Except he actually did, but against Cam Newton. What? What's your, You know this organization as well about it than anybody. What's your best guess for how the quarterback thing plays out? You know, I think for all the reasons of what you just said, it speaks to the fact that it's you know, it's going to make her break with twin asking, because otherwise, if it wasn't going to be maker break with asking, then you would go get Cam Newton and particularly for what the numbers ended up being for what Cam Newton signed with, with the Patriots very minimal deal, in fact, a minimum deal. The second they can go up to seven million through incentives. But you know if you could have done that deal with the Redskins, and maybe you couldn't have at the time that the Redskins were Contemplating this and deciding what to do because Cam Newton had to come to the realization that there wasn't something better out there. But just say the Redskins could have done that. That deal with Cam Newton. What, and the only reason not to do it is because you don't want to have Cam Newton here to impede Dwayne Haskins and two even if going after starting with Cam Newton as the backup. You don't want him looking over his shoulder in that way, So I think everything that we Dean speaks to the fact that this is going to be Dwayne Haskins team is going to be making a break. It's going to sink or swim. He's the guy and whether they become a successful team in the short and medium term depends on whether he develops into the quarterback. He was drafted to be You can follow me on Twitter at Mark Maskey That is at Mark Maskey, NFL reporter for the Washington Post. Mark. Thanks so much for taking time out with us this morning. We'll talk to you down the road. Take it easy. Enjoy it. OK, so Jason hears this is an honest question, okay? Is the president wrong? I mean, look, we all know is tell how his tone is like he's He just has no bedside manner. So even when he says something you might agree with you like the way he says he just such just it is It isn't not. Not. I guess what you're used to, or what? My level of expectations for the office would be. But is he? Is he wrong in that? Indians Redskins were AH, they weren't meant to mock in any way Native American cultures like when you're talking about sport. It's somebody strong, Vural. I mean, even like you know the warrior image by the way, warriors. The problem that is like Marquette changed their name nickname in 94 because it was deemed is offensive to Native Americans in the area, which I I don't I don't know how being a warrior is a bad thing, but I guess it is deemed to be a bad thing. So my question is like I get you don't like the message. People don't like the messenger and maybe the tone of the message. But is he wrong that we have? Our political correctness has changed. So we're now Indians and Redskins are deemed politically incorrect. I could. I could see that point. If I thought the president was doing this for because he disagreed with this on on some kind of level that is about how he feels about these teams in sports, But as you could see, everything he does is politically like, what's he done? The past few days? He is, he is decided. I'm going to rally my base. And there's many people that don't like, you know the fact that we're changing everything. We're changing the Washingtons nickname and the Indians. All this This is political Look, he decides to get involved in the bubble Wallace situation on money and, you know, no question, but that that's that. This is election politics. I get it, but I don't know without getting deep into the weeds of it. Is he right for what he's saying..

"For the Washington Redskins to change their name for years. Why might this time be different? Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder once promised never to caved to political pressure to ditch the term Redskins in his team's name, But today things are different rebranding. The Washington team might not come down to politics but dollars and cents. "Yeah this is pretty exceptional moment the Redskins wealth truly by virtue of the losing season last year end up with a great pick in the draft and they picked chase young tells about chase young he's a local boy and that his defense or not yeah and I could not find one expert analysts that didn't think he was the best player in the draft didn't think that he is basically a hall of fame potential I mean it's all there for the young man so if you think about the Redskins and some of the topics in their history of the draft they could have just landed maybe the biggest fish of them all and he's right he's right here with just a math that he played at Alabama he is bully exactly right I'm sorry my favorite FDA he was going to happen but the funny thing they could do hello at you last year and and we were laughing because we're like and they can go if you have the again this year but when you change young was going to be an absolute no brainer taking him at number two there had been some teams that were aggressive to try to move up to get them and the Redskins you said no dance night and the coach Ron Rivera they were all in on young and then they did it was a drama free night for the rest yeah and they landed the guy they wanted with the guy they really needed it wasn't position I need the defense while you know they had trouble rushing the quarterback last year they basically well I have a pretty talented defensive line already they had more needs on an offense but they get the pass rusher that everybody wanted to take very exciting you can tell I was up late eating out the very first round when I when I replace Alabama for you know if you feel fine I would actually have an event that was happening live and in reality you know like a reality show type event again in sports that we can keep it wait for you know you mentioned you mentioned that he's going to fill a role where they didn't really have that big of a need for how does that affect with how he how he meshes with the rest of the team and how they see him especially the other guys on the defensive line like wait a minute why do we need this guy yeah we're doing okay yeah you know what though Matt I noticed he had he was a late like fifth round draft pick he led the team exactly in half getting the quarterback is basically for the defense you know just tell new number one and they didn't do it they were tenth in the league in fact they didn't do it at the rate they wanted to last year so he immediately will make them better if he stays healthy of course and on the defensive guys they were all tweeting just they're just absolutely last night the reaction has just been you know this is unbelievable welcome home brother you know he actually is like ten miles from fed ex field and fifty miles from aspen where he grew up in upper Marlboro so if elected is that kind of a really cool story for change on to be with the Burgundy and gold and he said it would be on he told ahead of time he was he didn't want to like take it for granted because it even though every mock draft has the right to take young young said it would be honored to play for the Burgundy and call yeah I saw pictures of his father apparently came out even before the Redskins it announced it publicly we told the crowd gathered outside the house last night these go with the Redskins which is awesome so Carol that you talk about like you know powering up a defense that was already headed in the direction of strength the history of the NFL including in recent history the sometimes defensively dominant teams become overwhelmingly dominant teams even if the offense isn't performing at the same pace now you mean the world about the ramen you know when they can win with Trent Dilfer even when I was a great defense yeah so I think you know came in and he always did it for him the draft is always clear focus not need focused so he want to get somebody he thinks of the first pick a first round pick for any team should have hall of fame potential sure and I believe you know it's funny because you're looking at the history of great contrast maybe Sammy Baugh and Gerald green at the top right of the people they packed both picked in the first round not as high as chief Sammy Baugh you know with a six pack and does your green but the twenty eighth pick the bottom first rounders you get a chance young at number two who Unisys is putting a lot of pressure and expectations are young man but who by all accounts and all scattered reports could be an absolute team changer and that's what Rivera said he's like it just makes our defense better it makes our team better and to have that kind of excitement I'll get a lot of people around here who may be gave up on the right hand side three and thirteen last year maybe drinking the Kool

"Switch teams have been or will be affected the most with the stoppage in sports is it someone like lebron and the Lakers is it a future free agent Yanis entre combo in the Milwaukee Bucks we played some audio from Kim Newman at the top of this hour cam Newton made it clear you know he's being affected his opportunity to latch on to a new team he said he feels like a fish out of water not being a member of the Carolina Panthers and you know he can't latch onto it seem right now you can't go meet with squads and teams and you know we've had seems like the the charges who have been added him the Redskins his old coach Ron Rivera who haven't showed public interest in acquiring him to maybe help Dwayne Haskins lead the way or set him up so you know who or what or what squads are being affected most by the stoppage in

"Talk Radio Station in particular It was a bit of of a relationship. That was puzzling. At times. We would hear key. People from the team ended UP ON RADIO STATIONS. Outside of the market all the time And even on the other radio station at times And not ours. It never made a lot of sense to any of us can explain it have a lot of theories but I'm not gonNA get into him but yes It's it's it's been and many of you have recognized this. It's been you know it's been weird. It doesn't happen that way in most cities Especially when you're the rightsholder As as ninety s been usually there's significant preferential treatment which the radio station never got over the course of the years in fact It got the opposite of that. But anyway this Ron Rivera interview was probably not a redskins. Pr Situation Anyway. It was probably Ron Rivera with a relationship with a local radio host that market and going on with that local radio host anyway for the purposes of of this show it. What's important here is what he said and of course we can play back what he said in comment on what he said. So the first Soundbite that I'm GonNa play for you was A response to why. The redskins traded a fifth rounder four panthers quarterback Kyle Allen a quarterback that obviously Ron Rivera and Scott Turner. Were very familiar with here. Was His answer..

"And He'd be two years removed from his last game. So time has not worked for Trent Williams in his agent his agent in in all honesty from afar without knowing every detail of this I concede that but it really looks like the agent mess this up seven ways to Sunday really screwed it up you know and this is a situation where. Trent's lost a lot of money and now is on the verge of potentially losing a lot more. My position hasn't changed. If I'm the redskins right now there's no football going on there's no OTA's or mini camps. That are GONNA be scheduled. There's nobody even in the building. Okay so I'm waiting until the draft at the very least. I'm waiting until the draft win team decides or figures out. They can't get the left tackle that they wanted. And now maybe is ready to deal a little bit more than what they were talking about dealing again. The problem is is that trend's going to have to lowers contractual requirements and his demands. You know per Albert breer. He said this is one hundred percent. The reason a trait hasn't gotten done is because Trent's asking for way too much so he's going to get realistic about what he's worth. And then maybe the redskins will get an offer that they can accept and maybe that happens before the draft but at this point I would bet that it happens after the draft in the point that some of you have made to me in it saying that this is the point you made last year. Which is you can be patient because teams get desperate after a preseason where they lose somebody to injury or maybe they lose somebody to injury early in a season And you can get it done early in the season. That's true but I do think there is a sense from this new regime that they want to move on from this. There's also the issue where in this one part where the redskins don't necessarily have you know total leverage in this situation and that is they've got to figure out what they're going to do it left tackle. They don't have a left tackle right now. The only one under contract it can start. Is Trent Williams? You know other than that. They they signed this guy. Cornelius Lucas for depth purposes. So they've got a you know there's some incentive for them to move on as well as quickly as possible so that they can go out and sign. Donald PENN RESIGNED DONALD PENN. Or make another move or by the way have it as a priority in the draft which they should have it as a priority in the draft anyway right because even if trump comes back and plays this one season for twelve and a half million bucks you know. They're they're probably not going to franchise tag him next year. John Crime tweeted something out yesterday that I thought Sawn in and made a note of he said yes the Redskins did talk to left tackle. Jason Peters at one point as of now doesn't seem like anything's going to happen. I think there's some curiosity and wanting wanting to see what they have in Jaren Christian as well assuming Trent Williams trade of course Jason Peters is according to spot rack and get a deal. Eight to nine million. He's one of those guys Erin. I would figure gets a deal done around draft time or after when teams figure out what they can or can't get in the draft but eight to nine million is real money for one year for a thirty eight year. Old Left tackle If I didn't mention this the other Dale mentioned it again. Jason Peters is represented by Vincent Taylor the gentleman who represents Trent Williams doesn't mean the Redskins can't work out a deal with Jason Peters. You know it's a totally different situation. And obviously they've worth worked with Vincent Taylor before in the past with Trent Williams In fact I think I think Morgan Moses were maybe it's Christian himself Jaren Christian is actually a Vincent Taylor Client as well But Jason Peters would be one answer. But you can't sign Jason Peters until you know what the Trent Williams situation is now. You might be able to go out and see in re-sign Donald Penn you know before you have resolution to the Trent Williams deal because that's not nearly as much money and Donald Penn was well liked. Cooley pointed this out when he was on the podcast last week. You know his former college teammate. At Utah State Donald Penn play pretty well last year. You know he really did played pretty well. So that's essentially the latest right on the Trent Williams Situation I. If I'm the REDSKINS I don't have to do anything now. The more public Trent Williams and his agent become about this situation the more it seems to be back firing a little bit on Trent Williams. You know the more and more the FAN base starts to turn towards you. Know what Trent you know? This has been about money and we are glad you're healthy and were sympathetic to what you went through but You know you better lower your demands. The Red Skins can get something back. I think that's what the sense of a significant percentage of the fan base are others of you and you've made this very clear or like dude this. Just take the fifth rounder and move on. The problem is is that his contract demands right. Now have to come down to get a deal done anyway. At least according to Albert breer so there you go That's the latest on Trent Williams bringing to get some other redskins news here momentarily including Ron Rivera's conversation on Charlotte Radio Station. From two days ago said a couple of things about Kyle Alan in about Dwayne Haskins about Cam Newton. We'll get to that. Julia Donaldson had some stuff on our radio station yesterday. About Alex Smith but Adam Schefter was on with Mike Greenberg this morning on Greenberg show get up and one of the conversations they had Was about the NFL draft general managers. Don't want the NFL draft to take place on April twenty third which is now less than a month away. During the during this you know essential period of time we're locked out from facilities CETERA. They don't feel they can prepare Adequately for the NFL draft. Not only that they feel that some you know certain teams might get an advantage because some states are on lockdown. They wouldn't be able to even if the NFL let them in. They wouldn't be able to while others would be able right so Disadvantaged situations based on the state they're working cetera et Cetera but the NFL's going to move forward with the draft. Adam schefter and Mike Greenberg were having a conversation about this and ultimately it got to an idea that schefter had that Aaron and I went to respond to here it is. I'll give you my idea. Greenie basically how about having one round of the draft on every night so we have seven nights seven rounds basically the Hanako. Nfl drafts. That's what you're talking about in time and there's no rush to get through anything. It gives teams on the clock more time. It's not like coaches have to have players in many camps next week they don't there are no many camps. There's no off season program. There's no other. Sporting events on the calendar have the draft occur one round per night for one straight week in every round would be a big deal that we well we have to get it to be exactly the Hanukkah of the NFL draft. We'd have to add around right. 'cause Hannukah's eight days eight nine. I really wanted to split the first round into two nights. We could do that. We have a we have one a and one B on the first round You know look we need content and we need it. Spread out in each one of these rounds you know they could actually extend the time in between picks usually it goes. I think from isn't it ten minutes in the first round down to five for the subsequent rounds it might be seven. Whatever like that yet or you could do the full ten minutes you know for the for the next Several nights I think you're going to lose people like you typically do anyway. By the time you get to the fourth round you know those first two nights you know of the first round the first night and then rounds two and three on that Friday night are highly rated. Now they're also in prime time. Yes Very highly rated television shows. And you're talking about players that you've heard of M- for the most part and important picks and then you get to Saturday at noon when they have in recent years gone from rounds. Four through seven where you know. It's IT'S A. It's a lightning round to man. It's moving quickly and you get to that point. Aaron where when you're in the fifth and sixth round you know they're having conversations about first rounders and second rounders from the previous two days and then they'll catch up with like the last five picks been so it would be you know more about okay here in around six on our sixth night of coverage. You know the Las Vegas Raiders are on the clock a look. Here's the long snapper they're gonNA take. Yeah I don't know I mean. I do think there's an idea there if you want to say not all seven. If you say I first round gets so night second round gets it so night third night gets zone night and then maybe you do four through seven or four and five and six and seven. You know something along those lines. I think your original trying to fit it in two days. Eight nights of Hanukkah is actually better. I think splitting the first round. Yeah into two nights is much better programming because that first round because you have a longer period of time in between picks And maybe you could even extend the time in between six to twelve minutes or whatever You know the remember that first round is three and a half hours right so cut it in half and make you know the show you know. Essentially an hour and forty five minutes on two consecutive nights that would be. That's a pretty good idea. Actually you know how that first pick of the second round after they made that second round there. How much speculation there is about traces of the middle of the first round. We've completed the first sixteen picks and at number seventeen. I don't even know who's picking it number seventeen. You know all of the conversation overnight hours to trade tech yeah. I think that that would really add some drama to it. I think it would be actually a really good idea in this particular draft to do that. you know now you may get that situation right. Where were you do at the end of the first round anyway between number thirty two and the first pick of the second round that the first the team on the clock has a lot of time to think about it? A lot of time to consummate a trade. And so what you might get. Is You know the team. That's picking sixteen in and pulling it up right now. Lanna pick sixteen son happy. They wouldn't be happy because the cowboys are seventeen and they would have all this time but almost whatever the seventeenth pick would be more valuable than the in that situation. You could be the fact that could be because of the fact that you have twenty four hours to make your pick instead of ten minutes or fifteen minutes or whatever makes that more valid. I think these teams have all of the first-round pretty much simulated so many different ways. Anyway that that you had twenty four hours just to go all right possibilities to contact. I like that idea from a consumer point. I think it makes. I think that would be exciting. And by the way let's be honest. The first round of the draft is really exciting but when you get into the latter portion of the first round and it's eleven thirty at night right you know. It gets to the point where it's like all right. Let's get this first round over. I think they should split the first round into into nights. And that's I think that's makes a lot of sense. And then you could you know you could potentially split the round two into two nights and then do round three through seven you know in one fell swoop with shorter periods of time. I don't know you just you just do the whole thing behind closed doors and you reveal you. Just put the whole draft on tape delay and you reveal it that way that way. No there's no Unfair advantage there. I think it'd be exciting to do it that way. I love it. I do All right Let's get back to some redskins Stuff that we haven't gotten to didn't have a chance to get to yesterday Ron Rivera Was on a radio station in Charlotte. All right A show that he's familiar with Some of you tweeted. 'cause I played these sound bites on the radio show yesterday and some of you tweeted something that I I will quickly respond to your like dude. Why do the Redskins let all of their key? People keep doing radio shows outside the market. And they're never on anybody's shows locally. Well I mean. That's a bit of an exaggeration. We've had you know radio guests over the years but yes. There has been a very antagonistic relationship between sports. Talk Radio especially our station over the years with Redskins PR. I can't you know. Can't sugar coat. It there has been for what reason will never really understand. We have a lot of theories as to why but Yeah it's it's not been from lack of asking over the years Every single week a request goes out for various people to come on. And you know Tony. Wiley was the PR guy for many years. He was not very helpful to sports..

"Beat lefty dresell how about Anthony? Ren donut art monk Here's the best one. We both predicted Alan. Iverson is a fourteen seed would advance. And he's GonNa Face Sean Taylor in a second round matchup with the winner playing Gary Clark. John Riggins second round match up now. I think rigaud trounced ports in the opening round. I think we both thought rigaud would get through that. And I think we're GONNA get through Gary Clark as well but a John riggins either again Sean Taylor or Alan Iverson Sweet. Sixteen matchup would be really interesting. I think we're go would prevail. I think he would I as I said. I think Taylor has a chance for the final four here just because of you know Sean Taylor. Yeah so you like Taylor over Iverson here. I do like Taylor over. I think I think I would lean in your direct weller. I like him to win. I don't know if I would vote that direction. Just because I think again. Iris and criminally under seated. And he was just. He was so amazing when he was here he was a he. I agree with you very very understated. Taylor's going to win the vote other second round matchups. By the way the the upsets in the first round Alan Iverson was an upset is a fourteen seed We also had bobby. Beth is a twelve seed upsetting Frank Howard which I think we we may have had There were a couple of nine seeds over eights. Morgan wootten Got By bobby Mitchell. And then there was another nine seed that also advanced Ryan Zimmerman knocked out Rod Langley and Zimmerman. Now Gets Joe Gibbs in the second round Brian Mitchell as an eleven seed. Beat Charlie Taylor so that was also a first friend upset although I I don't think of think of it as an upset now it's Brian Mitchell against Sunny Johnson. In a second round match up you also have Darryl Green and Joe Theismann in a one eight matchup and Dexter Manley Against Sammy. Baugh in a seven to match get another one Niklas backstrom. In Elvin Hayes Backstrom. The succeed would not surprise me if he advanced. I would predict. Backstrom is advancing in that one. Yeah I mean in fact I think some of the you know the winners Strasbourg in over Doug Williams You know Back backstrom over. Rizzo you know is an indication of a lot of cap fans definitely participating in this Hope be beat. Bryce Harper in the first round. That's not surprising. Okay probably not rice harvest. Exactly but Sean Taylor. You know reflective of certainly We'll see Taylor against Iverson and then with one of those having the opportunity to face one of the all-time legends in this town. John Regan's and Sherzer Jacoby are the two most interesting second round matches that one I could see going either way. Shire's Jacoby Nat Scherzer's going to advance in fact let me just go to. Let's see where the voting is right now because the voting is already underway Here it is. The the voting for these second round. Matchups started early this morning in so far with not a lot of votes. In Two hundred seventy votes in Scherzer's got a fifty seven percent to forty two percent lead a fifty seven point four to forty two point six over Jacoby Elvin Hayes is getting you know beaten pretty handily by Backstrom so we had that one. How about Beth against Big John? Big John's got the lead over battered. Darryl Green thighs men green right now. Heavily a big time lead over thighs men Again if the voting's very early you've got another nineteen hours to vote on this so just go to the team. Nine eighty twitter page right At the team nine eighty. It's not that hard to find at the team nine at team ninety. Excuse ME AT TEAM. Nine eighty The Manley versus Sammy Baugh Sammy. Baugh got the lead over Dexter Manley Havoc Sunny against be Mitch. It's sunny right. Now with the lead Strasbourg unsettled Strasbourg with a big lead. Over unseld early Ovechkin You know easily right now over Morgan. Wootten Rigaud see this already. Regan's has the biggest lead here in the second round matchups that I've checked so far. He's crushing Gary Clark Right now gibbs has a big lead over Ryan Zimmerman Gary Williams with a big lead over Katie. Lucky big lead and in the matchup that we just talked about. Sean Taylor Alan Iverson. It's not even close. You're right Sean. Taylor crushing Alan Iverson. Right now the voting is very much. We're only a couple of hundred votes on all of these. 'cause the voting just started a few hours ago but Goto at team nine eighty on twitter or the team nine eighty dot com and vote for this. This is actually Going to be a lot of fun. We'll have more discussion about this. We get further into it All right Lots of redskins news to get to. I'm going to start with the New Stuff on Trent Williams. You know we talked about the other day. The agents statements Vincent Taylor the age agent statements about the situation. He's not happy or the agent spoke Diana Rossini's got some stuff from the agent is well get to her stuff. Here momentarily This from Albert breer though on the Trentham Situation Albert breer rights four s is m M. Qb Monday morning quarterback and this actually comes from his mailbag. Somebody asks a question and then he answers the question and I found this very early this morning. The question which came from a Redskins Fan. What is the trade value for Trent Williams and Albert breer answered that question as follows quote? My understanding is there have been suitors out there for Trent Williams. The trouble is and I'll be very clear about this. Almost one hundred percent. This is about his contract situation last year. Words circulated that Williams ask the Redskins for quarterback money and the redskins found interest over the last few weeks Williams. Only to have suitors. Push away from the table. When they were apprised of Williams's financial demands Breer continues thing is asking another team for first or second round. Pick for player is a lot. You're giving up a piece of capital that can bring in a young top player under costs control for the next four or five years or maybe multiple players if you trade The pick and move down and get more picks so the player being dealt for has to be good and really valuable to begin with but if then that player wants to break the bank to Andy's in his thirty s again. It's a lot that's not to say. Williams may not may not have a legitimate beef with the team or that. He isn't worth more than he's making. It's just that if he really wants to be traded he has to be realistic about it and work with the team since he's under contract if he's more worried about making top dollar than played ear out and hit the market next March. It's that simple. That was Albert breer answering a question from a redskin fan in his Monday morning. Quarterback column Mailbag so look at the big takeaway from this is that from his understanding. This is almost one hundred percent about his contract demands. Okay that the reason a deal hasn't been worked out is that Trent Williams is asking for too much. The teams aren't willing to pay and he mentions that word circulated last year that Williams had asked the redskins for quarterback money will J. P. Finley if you remember on this very podcast said that the amount that Trent Williams had asked the redskins four was even hard to say was obscene And I mentioned a couple of days later that I had learned that it had been at least twenty five million a year if not north of twenty five million per year while the Redskins you know Scott at that. They're not paying. Trent Williams quarterback money one of the things. We've talked a lot about and this is where I think the agents really done Trent a disservice in that. Is You know the holdout last year cost. Trent you know somewhere between ten and fifteen million dollars with split the difference and call it twelve and a half million dollars. It's a lot of money that the holdout cost him. And all the while from my understanding the agent Vincent Taylor was suggesting to Trent that it would be okay that they would be able to make it up with the next deal. After he finally got traded in the off season well again I know I've beaten this this horse dead multiple times but there is no team out there that will feel obligated to compensate. Trent for what he lost last year. They couldn't give two shits about that doesn't matter to them. The redskins don't really care about that. Either you know even if they are partly culpable for the holdout for the deterioration of the relationship. He didn't play for them last year. Had two years left on their own on his deal. They don't know him for what he lost last year. In so trying to break the bank with quarterback money's in attempt to get back what he lost last year He's not getting that money back. He is thirty two years old. He just sat out a full season. And he's he can certainly say I'm one of the better left tackles in football. You sort of have a hard time. Saying he's the best left tackle in football and somebody I forget who it was. You know tweeted me and said You keep saying that you know. He hasn't been the best left tackle in football. That's for football people to say well first of all we can have opinions of her own on this show but the bottom line is. He's made one all pro team and it was the second team in. Twenty fifteen and I know that's writers but the all pro team is taken more seriously because the pro bowl voting is essentially a popularity contest with fans and with players Anyway I digress. There the bottom line here is Trent. Williams is going to have to lower his contractual demands. If a deal is going to have any chance of getting done now Diana Rossini had a ton on this as well She had a long Tweet yesterday along thread about some of the things that she has learned recently. I'll just read you the entire thread. It started with. And we've had Diane on the podcast on the radio show and Diana really is plugged into the team. It starts his follows quote. It has been made clear to me. There is no salvageable relationship between the Washington redskins and Trent Williams. I've spoken to multiple sources from both sides. And here's where it stands. Williams met with Ron Rivera for about ten to fifteen minutes a couple of weeks ago and afterwards. There was not a feeling between the two that this was going to work. Trent his reps noticed the team met with free agent players before meeting with him. Which wasn't a strong first impression of the new regime. Sources say there are still players now on the on the roster that Washington coaches still haven't met with and that this wasn't intentional per sources meaning not meeting with Trent or meeting with others. Before Trent she continues Diana Rossini. Trent has always respected liked owner. Dan Snyder there have never been issues. As former captain the seven time pro bowler really wants to be able to move on from Washington but still return one day and possibly be part of the ring of honor. He wants the relationship to be healthy. She continues the redskins shopped Williams leading up to the Columbine and had interest per sources days after the combine. The club allowed Williams's seek a trade partner. Since then Williams Williams is agency or agent found team. Who WANTED TO DO BUSINESS? I'm told Washington tried to negotiate but believe that they can't just give a player like Trent away for small value in return from what I learned. Washington believes they have been flexible. And this is on Williams's agency. The agency believes Washington has been inconsistent in their ask. So there you go That from Diana Rossini. So let's let's go through that first of all when she talked about the meeting that Ron Rivera and Williams had lasted for just ten to fifteen minutes. A couple of weeks ago and that there is a feeling between the two that this wasn't going to work You know again. This is obviously a guess. But if part of the conversation was Trent what are you looking? For and Trent said. I'm looking for quarterback money or the number that he gave out with quarterback money. Will I can sort of understand why that conversation would have been super short like Ron Rivera? Busies juggling a lot of balls right now like it ain't GonNa work. Trent wants too much money. We're not paying you twenty five million dollars a year. We're not paying you quarterback money by the way quarterback money can mean up to thirty million plus. Now you know. Essentially.

"Rarely happens where the guy who is relieved of his duties is allowed to do what you were able to do and the outpouring of warmth from your players towards you. I think really helped your next job opportunity. I think when people around the league saw that and heard all all the way players reacted about it You know made it easy for somebody like and Snyder had come find you and we'll give you a job. One of the things that Mr Snider night talked about was culture was was building the culture and what we had done in Carolina the guys that had had adapted and got into the swing of the things that we did. And that's one of the things he asked me about you know coming to DC and that's when the things we're gonNA work on developing a culture and I think that's a very important part of it is is that you know things are going to emanate from from the way we do things. Well if we do things the right way we give ourselves a chance dance you know. I wonder if a coach like you. I know you play the Redskins. You're gonNA scout them when you're getting ready to play them but when they ask you to come in and looked at their roster look at all the tape look at all the players I have here. What was the first thing that you realized are saw that they had in place there? They had a lot of young quality football players. That have played a lot of football already when you look look at the fact that they start at three wide receivers played three wide receivers. That were rookies. Two of them started. So there's a lot of young guys playing. You look at the youth on the defensive front. You got a rookie of first year. Second Year third year guy a couple of the second year guys a couple third in fact there were there were six guys that played and I think the guy with the most experienced within the fourth year. I mean that to me tells you that there's a good quality Young depth players. That are doing a lot of good things for the organization so I was pretty excited about roster and the more I looked at it I noted. There's some quality players quality offense alarming. I mean the Assad Stout Group and you look at those guys and you sit and fill. Wow how you got on one side and and you go wild. The inside is is is taken care of those guys look like they have the ability to continue to grow and be the recruit really doesn't reflect the players. Maybe it's more a reflects inexperienced players especially at your quarterback position which I want to ask you next I Alex Smith Smith. Do you think he's ever GonNa play again. Does he WANNA play again. What's the story with him? I know Alex wants to play again. He's been working out. He's been doing things the right way and you know he's he's done and a good job I'm excited about where he is his progress And it's been good. I mean he really is in fact I saw him the other day at the facility was he was doing. His Rehab is workouts. You know the last time He. He was a full on starting quarterback that made it through the season. He had a backup quarterback by the Patrick Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes. Sweet gives a lot of credit to Alex Smith. Getting Tim to where he is today. Could you see a scenario where that could develop for your team with Dwayne Haskins. Oh very much so I think again. You'll Alex Alex is health. And he's rolling and he eh competing and he wins the job. He'll be starting this symbol and vice versa. dwayne comes out. Does the things the way he's supposed to developing like we're hoping he can he'll start again. This is about competition is about bringing guys into compete against one another to put the best players on the field to give us a chance to win football. Just how we're going to do things. I'm.

Browns Make It Official

"We will start with the official news out of Cleveland Scavenge to ban skis hired by the browns. They announce officially on Monday. He's thirty seven. Spent fourteen seasons as an assistant in Minnesota but has never been a head coach at any level level his entire. NFL coaching career. As I mentioned has been with one organization the Minnesota Vikings Stansky took over play calling duties on offense late in the two thousand eighteen season. Minnesota ran the ball. Forty seven percent of the time with Danske asked the play caller. That's the second highest rate in that span trailing only the Baltimore Ravens was introduced at a press conference just a little while ago. I the foremost success starts with people and I know we'll talk a lot about culture but it is absolutely about the people and everybody knows the Harry Truman quote. It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one cares who gets. That's the credit and that's what I believe. We have in our building. We have great people. I know we're going to add to it will hire G. G. M. here in the next week can or two and we're going to add to this culture that that we're building here and we have the right people and again. I can't stress enough. How excited I am the be? Just a part of did you know to use a basketball terms to my dad can understand this. I want to be the point guard for this organization. I want to bring the ball up then I wanNA share the basketball and let so what else get an easy bucket though smiling over there. WE'RE NOT GONNA I'M NOT GONNA speak anything into existence right now I can. I promise you that we're GONNA work. I've already spoken to a few of our players already. And that's what I'm about I'm about working and I'm about putting a foundation together the other. We will be methodical about it. We will not skip. Step two two and three to get to four. We're GONNA start in the foundation and then we're going to reinforce foundation Shen said we can build upon it and when I'm talking about this I'm talking about schemes and technique will be diligent about working with our players so that they can develop into the the best versions of themselves and ultimately we're building a foundation for what we hope is a championship. Effort will have a culture of accountability. We'll have structures is in place the players will understand our rules. And what we're about and we're going to demanding and we're going to hold each player accountable. Because ultimately I know this about players they they May Not come out and ask you for that. But that's what they want. Well perhaps the tenth. TIME IS THE CHARM IN CLEVELAND. Stansky is the tenth full time head coach Wjr. The browns have hired since returning to the League in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine that is the most in the league over that span of the previous nine. None have posted a winning record. Heard and not a single one has lasted more than four seasons continuity and consistency has been a real issue in Cleveland. Victor certainly something they'd like to you see changes to fanciest step in the right direction. In your opinion will I believe he is and I think that consistency where it is important. And right because you put up that list of all the coaches and the coaches that they've they've pretty much funneled through throughout the years can you provide that level of stability that they've been seeking for almost a year in and year out. Can you provide that for their now. The thing I do like about Stansky a fan ski is that he has experience with creating plays for two star receivers and I think that's something that's going to have to translate over to the Cleveland. Browns obviously with Odell Beckham junior junior and Jarvis Landry and having that experience I'm sure enticed of that for an office inside bring him in and understanding that they got to get the best out of these players in the best out of all their play makers obviously nick included In the backfield now is he going to be a leader of men and he is he going to be able to handle. The Eagles and the different personalities is that are in that locker room. Desk the biggest question that still remains to be seen. It's defense gas interviewed with the browns. Before in fact it's believed that he was the first source of politics but Desta several seasons ago and and it didn't work out. Matt you spent time with him as part of that Minnesota Vikings Organization. What can you tell us right? He he was a young quarterback coach at the time. And so when I got there was actually a little bit older than he was which is an interesting dynamic but at the same time. He's been all around that building. You know he's an administrative assistant and when he started there then. He was a quarterback coach. He's I've been with the running backs he's been with the wide receivers so he's been in all the different elements of the offensive side of the ball. He's seen the ups and downs. He's seen how free agency can impact so he's got a great feel feel. He's a great leader. He's got a presence about himself in the other thing that I think that the Cleveland browns are probably drawn to is the simple fact that this is a very quarterback friendly offensive structure that he's presented presented in for a guy like Baker Mayfield that had had his struggles last year. And maybe some confidence issues. Maybe not though. Let's see the press conference the same time. It's a quarterback friendly. There's a lot of play action. There's a lot of movement of the pockets. A Lotta easy throws to be made screen. And then there's like you said that balance forty seven percent percent of the time the run the ball. There's great balance in that offensive structure in for a young quarterback and going into his third year after some struggles. I think this is a great fit for that organization Asian and going back to when they actually made this higher People in Cleveland were telling me that it was actually his run game because we see what he was able to do with Dowling Cook and how he was able to make become a good player to really a great one and he's a central part of that offense that we now see in Minnesota and that was a big part of it but in terms of now Cleveland going forward looking for GM the way it was explained to me is they really want these to head coach and gm to work as one. This is why they moved on. From John Dorsey Percy and Freddie Kitchens. They didn't feel like this was working together. So they're looking for someone who has the same vision and the analytics department obviously is of of crucial part of Cleveland. And what they're looking for a head coach and I think that's why Stefanski became that lead candidate because he's accepting of it. He wants to be part of that and You know I think I saw some reports out there about how Cleveland is demanding that their head coach presents the game plan to ownership and really the way it was explained to me. It's not so much that they want to see the game plan. They just want everyone to be in sync to go over to make sure they're all on the same page headed into the game. Well you can't blame him and and that is something that clearly was not the case. I think you make a great point. It's poor in that somebody come in and be able to work and mold Baker Mayfield but also be able to be the CEO and run this whole organization and have everybody else be accountable. I think Freddie Kitchens might have had one of those two things that went by the wayside outside the quarterback with the hiring in Cleveland. What it does mean? Is that every chair on the head. Coaching carousel is now accounted for. The browns were the fifth and final team to hire a new head coach in the off season. Three of the hires tires Stefanski as we just discussed Joe Judge with the giants and Matt Raw and Carolina our first time. NFL head coaches the other two quite the contrary contrary Mike McCarthy in Dallas Ron Rivera in Washington they will get a second chance or in some cases third or fourth various established. NFL head coaches of of all the five. Who Intrigues you? The most in their new spot intrigues me is Matt Rule. I WanNa see what really transpires here right. He seven years sixty million dollar contract. That's a big commitment big commitment. I mean we might need to think about going into coach. That's it has everything else that they're also saying that they're making a commitment to Cam Newton with the type of style and the offensive structured. That they've set up McCaffrey's there I mean they've got the pieces of the puzzle there now. It's interesting to see how that that offensive structure from college translates to the NFL. which is I mean? There's been guys like chip Kelly in the past right John Harbaugh's price guy. That's been the most successful but that was more of a pro style offense with the most the most recent Kingsbury in Arizona so cliff Kingsbury. Excuse me it's been a mixed bag. There's no question. Let me ask you this just circling back to something you said by hiring Matt rule it you believe this means a commitment to Cam Newton. Can you explain why why I just think that The Baylor and watching their offense of structure and the RPO that takes place that's run pass options and all the different things that they're well versed in and that the Baylor offense has been historically historically very successful with in terms of that offense of structure I just think that that Fits Cam Newton's game very well and so I believe that that's a statement saying look. We wanted to bring somebody in here that you're going to be comfortable in this type of offense of structure and go out and be able to put yourself in a position to have success extent to intrigue you for me. Is Joe Judge my beloved giants. I think well I just think because going into it. Once I saw the Vacancy Happen at the head coaching position I was all right. The giants are GonNa come in here and get either like a Ron Rivera type or even McCarthy and get a guy that will come in and commanding presence. Once he walks into the building and I think with the hiring of Joe Judge just left me like okay I. It felt like the same cycle almost felt like coach mcadoo a couple years ago when you give a guy a shot and bring him in if he can transcend The coaching position or the year. After that when you bring in Pat Shurmur and you try to bring take a chance on another guy. Felt like we're taking another chance on another guy but granted. I must say I loved after the press conference I loved his mannerisms I love. He literally embodied what the New York Giants Football Organization is all about when he stepped up there on that podium Liam so I say that with a grain of salt because I love the press conference and I think he's going to bring something different than the other two coaches did in the past. But I still left me scratching my head in terms of who was out there here in the type of guys that could've came in that building and commanded a present these guys by the way Matt Rule and Gioja Geno. It's not about winning the press coverage but they did rule who was must see TV. I was just watching. He's missing time with the giants. Who so I knew all about? He's got does I think you know obviously recruiting such a big part of being a head coach in college. You don't mean to recruit You know when you're in the NFL. Which is why? I'm an agreement with you. I think that is the most enticing match COPA or at least the situation of the coaches just because you just look at history and making that jump from college the NFL. It's not easy and there just hasn't been a high success rate there. I think obviously he spent a little time with a giant. So it's not like he's

Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?

"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

Redskins introduce Ron Rivera as head coach

"The redskins officially named Ron Rivera their new head coach yesterday. Washington Fire Jay Gruden on route. Two a three and thirteen season the Redskins have not won a playoff game since two thousand five. That was when Joe Gibbs was their head coach Washington looking for some of the stability ability that Rivera brought to Carolina. The Panthers never won a title. They did reach the playoffs. Four Times under coach Rivera including a super bowl trip in two thousand fifteen. The redskins last made the Super Bowl in nineteen ninety-one and in a matter of moments the redskins will introduce Ron Rivera as the new head coach. You can see see. They are getting ready now in the nation's capital and as we wait for coach Rivera. I'll ask you this. What do you want to hear this afternoon? I think from Ron Rivera. I I just want to hear why he was attracted active to this job. Several Head coaching vacancies out there. And and why he took this job and and presumably so quickly when there could be potential other openings out there even in Dallas as we wait for that one and then secondly I wanna hear his evaluation or just thoughts overall Dwayne Haskins in what he might be thinking with regards to the offensive coordinator position. Since we're thinking that he's going to interview the current Guy There Kevin O'CONNELL and and You know what he might be looking being out of the coach from nap position. If he doesn't go with the guy who's currently their jobs I think the the the maturation process of dwayne Hassans is important for this football team. And I think that's the number one issue for Ron Rivera. Moving forward is how do I get my quarterback if he feels doing Haskins is indeed his quarterback How do I get my Guy Ready? Ready available with the right mindset because we do understand doing hasn't silly young player. So how do I get them in the right mindset to be successful in this football league and I'm a little sour about this. I'm a huge huge Ron. Rivera Fan. I sat with them while I was out. During my tenure with the giants was over and I was going to different Teams and sitting down with their coaches. He was the one that struck me. The most is just is a straight shooter. Honest about what. He does with his with his teammates. Everybody loves them. Teammates loving other coaches love. Him and I think he's walking to the podium right now. We'll take Noon I happy Thanksgiving everybody. Today's the beginning of a great new year for the Redskins Organization and its fans I I'd like to thank Bill Callahan. Those here five years did a great job for us a great guy and we really appreciate him with the Redskins have needed is a cultural change. Someone that can bring a winning cultural to organization at starts and ends with our head coach when looking for that man. I looked for a class. Act That's how you describe coach Rivera. He was two time coach of the year. And for those of you. That don't understand. That's very very hard to do. You should google that Because it's impressive oppressive He was fifteen to one which is extremely hard to do Did my research spend a lot of time talking a lot. Allow People A lot of coaches and one thing that came across certain words and these words. We're integrity honesty. Knowledge Grit determination. It's all about winning. Ron Rivera knows how to win as a player player as a coach as a new head coach of the Redskins. One thing. That's very very important. We're GONNA have one voice and only one voice alone and that's the coaches like to welcome. Ron's wife Stephanie. We've gotten over the last few weeks and our new head coach of the Washington redskins coach Ron Rivera. Thank you you know with about thirty days ago that your team. This team got me unemployed. So just so you know. We're good now thank thank you. It's an honor serve as a coach in the NFL. It really truly is their only thirty. Two of us at anyone given time and these jobs are scarce this one the Washington the redskins. This one is special. This is one of the almost original teams started in nineteen thirty two. There's a Lotta history behind football team in order for us to get back to where we WANNA be. We've got a study that history embrace it history and prepared a repeat that history because if not we're doomed to repeat the most recent history. We're not gonNA do that guys. We really aren't everything we do is going to be about winning. Okay we'll do things the right way and that's the only way we're going to do them because if it doesn't help us we're not doing it man that's just as simple as it gets. So why did I choose the REDSKINS. Probably the question. I know a lot of you guys are wondering that right now with everything. That's out there. I can tell you right now. All this talk about the money I want the money I'd still be out there trying to pick a couple teams against each other. I took this job for one. Simple reason one simple reason because because Dan Snyder came to me with a very interesting perspective for weeks he's explored the reasons why some teams win and some teams. Don't he told me. The common. In fact that transitional success of teams like the Patriots the Seahawks and the chiefs. Some of the other ones was that decision to take it and make a coach centered approach each not an owner centered approach or a team president or GM. Coach centered approach. I told Mr Snider that I appreciate the fact that he believes the head coach matters but I would be honored but under one condition it had to be a player centered culture a player center culture. Something I truly do believe in my responsibility to get the most out of the players to work with them teach them mentor them. Five five to one by one. I most certainly. We'll do it. I've done in the past and I'll do it again. I'll do what I can't help. These young men become not just the players we want but the men in the community we need. These are the guys that can help change things not just on the football field but in this world I really do believe that I was fortunate enough to have that in Carolina and I hope I'm a work to have it here. In Washington. Things will begin with one. Simple principle off discipline. I come from a military family. We're disciplined it isn't taught it's live. It's expected from day they won. I have a philosophy every player every coach everyone who works for this organization. They'll know what day one you're not gonNA play for this team. You're not gonNA work visist team if you don't have the discipline to give us everything. You have no exceptions no excuses. That simple guys. We have to hold each other accountable. That's something that we most certainly will do. We'll expect most from each other whether I was in Chicago Carolina with our very best when the players knew. Do the coaches had their backs. And this is the thing I'm going to ask from the players. Do it the way we teach you do it the way we ask you do it that way. The success will be yours. Okay you do it that way accessible be yours if you don't excess is going to be yours but it's not gonNA be right. Why because if you fail it's on you do it our way do it the right way and if we fail it's on me okay? It'll be on me. The head coach at simple. I truly believe that I ask of. You doesn't work I'm to blame. I told Mr Snider. I wanted to assemble coaching staff. That was truly dedicated. The players and teachers and teachers. Okay I don't have to have a great big names would have to have is great teachers. We want to teach these guys how to play football to the best of their abilities to the best of our abilities and also it'd be good quality young men off the field. I want players tough. Hungry will do whatever it takes to play redskin football fall in January and hopefully into February. I told him I wanted to work. Hand in hand with the head of player personnel could spot potential and others that even. I didn't see another didn't see. That's going to be important because it has to be a collaboration no matter who it is no matter. WHO's working with us? It has

"The only reason you become head coach in this league in my opinion is to win that's it that's the bottom line if you do for any other reason you're wrong okay and that's what I want to do and I really do I'm not just saying because I'm in the process I say because I truly believe that that is the new head coach of the Redskins speaking just moments ago to reporters Ron Rivera saying he doesn't want to spend five years rebuilding the team he wants to improve things right away but you can't do it alone the fans got a help I understand there to scroll understand their of said they deserve debate we have one so we've got to start winning okay but I tell you to give us the opportunity get behind us we're gonna give you our best stuff that's what we're gonna do is as a football

"He needs to play in a vertical passing game that is complemented with a dominant nominee running attack. When I look at Washington redskins and I look at how Ron Rivera Built Carolina Panthers very similar cam had running ability but in the end then it was dominant run game? A physical smashmouth running attack. Defense led the way. And then you have the quarterback that can make plays if he builds it in that light. I think they can win. Games Washington all right fair enough. So you're okay with it. I've Okay we wait ask is absolutely I. Don't know enough about him I just I hear. He's not a grinder. I know everybody that plays that position. You have to make a decision. Do I WANNA be a celebrity or do I want to be a dominant elite. NFL quarterback back. If you want to be an elite quarterback that you gotta bypass some of the other stuff some of the endorsements some of the celebrity stuff to do all the dirty work as a decision that he will have have to make and that will be a conversation. Then I'm sure Ron Rivera will have with the Wayne Haskins very early in the tenure. Who Do you want to be? What do you WanNa compass because if you really want to win the ring you have to be a guy that is the first one in last one out because the reputation now is that's not the case it look and so sometimes that can change bl? He asked to understand stand new coach in town. You GotTa step up your game if you're gonNA be the franchise quarterback by the way Vixen Sine X.. Nasal spray starts within minutes. Works up to twelve hours Bucky Lucky Brooks final question. You Trust your personnel abilities. You played you scouted at a high level. What you're out on? Brady give me two things you see. As a talent evaluator that are just not about as receivers. His accuracy has changed. He's missing missing morally. upstanding we've ever seen a missing more laps. The second thing pressure didn't use effect Brady and his production in fact when you blitz Brady you pay for it. Oh that was the rep forever this year. We're seeing the pressure the blitz that coming after him affects them more than it ever has. Some of that is owned receivers achievers but a lot of it is really on him now is saying that. Kenny have magical performance yes but can't sustain it over a three or four game run to win the Super Bowl no doing the pages have revealed who they are by the way they play down the stretch. This is a team that they have to do everything to get explosive plays. We've we've seen more trick. Play A God. Yeah anything to deliver these chunk place because they can't manufacture it in their normal office and so is just very very tougher them so the magic number to me whenever the Patriots Play Twenty Four if they get twenty four points they win if the other team gets to twenty four points the other team more to win. This offense just doesn't generate enough place and Tom Brady is responsible for some of that is not all on him but he's a false before a lot of it by the way coming up up in twenty minutes. "NFL network terrific reporter. Who covers the cowboys and she just told me off the they want to throw out of the facility because she said nosy and she's trying to get all these scoops joining us in Dallas Cowboy Global Satellite Network? So I mean you know the the. We were arguing this morning staff. We said Jerry doesn't want anybody tell them How to run his business? And everybody's telling Jerry's got a fire Jason Garrett if my gut feeling is jerry said you're not going to tell me what the do j's Garrett so Jane you tell us what is happening to Jason Garrett at this moment well it's our understanding that he is in a meeting with Jerry and Steven Jones. I haven't been able to confirm that that's happening but we were told that that meeting was happening at noon so what. I can't tell us. He walked in the building about nine thirty nine forty five this morning. I'm told. He had a large binder in his hand now yesterday today he spent most of the day interviewing players as part of their normal exit interviews. He was finishing those up today when he walked out of that meeting. He told people in the building decision in a had yet been made and then I was told today. He walked around hugging staffers in people in this building and said things like I need your contact information so we can stay in touch so oh read from all of that what you will. It certainly feels like this thing is inevitable. Given that. When I talked to players yesterday they characterized as team speeches one that sounded like him saying saying goodbye without actually using the word of? But it certainly feels like if you're gonNA move on from your head coach and you've got a coach waiting in the wings. Why not? Just tell him what his his fate is GONNA be It just hasn't happened yet and he's continued his head coaching duties and maybe not because his contract goes January. Fourteenth call it. I don't think a lot of us have made a lot of sense of it just yet. Let's talk about Urban Meyer. I've been told that urban would strongly considerate though he's more college than pro. Can you confirm anything anything with urban. Meyer here's what I can confirm. There's a very real interest. There are reported this that within the last three months without getting into too many specifics. Stephen Jones how to meeting with Urban Meyer. Now Jerry Jones went on WanNa fight through the van a few weeks ago and he turned he did. He said that wasn't the case but he also said that they would not not be interested in a guy like Ken so again make of that. What you will? He also said consume confusing statements about his thoughts on hiring a college coach to come in and in man this NFL team. But maybe the reason why we haven't heard anything about a Jason Garrett's future is maybe one of the guys waiting in the wings is actually one of the bowl games It's just like I said it's very confusing. You saw the redskins. They had a coaching committee in place. They were able to pull the trigger soon as the season was over an obviously bringing a guy like Ron Rivera Into the building. Right now you just have to wonder as you continue to play this thing else. Are the cowboys going to be musical chairs and being the last one standing or do they have a gentleman's women's agreement with somebody else. I also like in this situation very similar to Tony. Romo you know they. They have such a good relationship with their players and their coaches. It's one of the best things about them. But it's also one of the frustrating things Jason Garrett. It's not uncommon for you to see him out super bowls hanging out with the Jones family enjoying a sitting at their table. Bullet dancing the chain smokers and things along those lines and you know they've got such a great relationship. Jerry Jones made him a head coach. This is one of his projects with that being he said. I think he had a hard time with this very similar to why it took so long for them to say goodbye does Bryant Wyatt chicks so long for them to finally released. Tony Romo and I think you could make the argument argument that all of that time spent not releasing Tony. Romo gave him plenty of time to think about whether he wanted to play for the Texans or the broncos and not releasing Dez Bryant sooner than you did allowed him to sort of get out of playing shape but also sort of thinking his mind that there was a possibility. There's still a chance Dallas and I don't think emotionally he ever really got over it so you hope that given their respect for Jason Garrett they don't do that in this situation that if they are in fact not gonNA move with them. They allow him to move on and start getting involved involved in some of these coaching searches right now namely that one up in New York finally but ninety seconds left. What was the vibe in the locker room after the win you win? But you're not gonna go to the playoffs. What was alike it was rough especially like Michael Gallup? You've had such a tough game the week before fourth and eights they decided to go with the two tight end set. They leave him or a Cooper Cooper out of there they put it all in the second year kids hands and he comes up short. It's gone around the locker room apologizing to everyone and then of course in the next game comes up with three touchdowns L. Sorta felt offer. Not He's cowboys were in control of their destiny. Nearly all season and then they beat by the Eagles in week sixteen and then get beat them twice in week seventeen. It's just it's unfortunate given the talent on this roster and all of the expectations. I was on your show during training camp telling you about all the depth on this roster the fact that they couldn't put it together probably one of the more confusing frustrating and weirdest things about twenty nine fifteen here in Dallas and something that is I know aggravated Jerry Jones all season long by the way. That's the stadium right behind you that it's a beautiful facility down there folks if you can ever go down to that area as Arlington Stunning facilities as you can see James later there. It's beautiful. That is the stadium right behind you. This is actually the training facility. Believe it or not this is where the the players practice inside the bubble. This is the Ford Center at the store and then also the Frisco high schools gets us this so yeah it's pretty awesome around here and you should see all of the fans that come out here and do tours throughout the facility. It's is nonstop. We're in the media room where the podium and you sort of feel like you're at the zoo official because you'll have all these visitors. Come by and look through the windows and they're taking pictures it's an interesting dynamic amock Dallas and covering this beat. That's for sure Jane great stuff. Thank you so much Jane Slater. NFL Network based at a Dallas. Texas does a terrific job. The facilities down there are ride when I used to live in Oregon and Phil Knight was obviously the number one booster of Oregon the facilities and Oregon. We're just just absurd. Let's look an airport. I confused the practice facility the stadium. Adm They got libraries there and workout rooms. Well you know the Urban Meyer situation. I still contend the New York giants job is the best job available you have a non meddling owner I don't think it's a rebuild offensively. I think you would get Daniel Jones. I think you'd get Saquon Barkley. I don't think the offensive line's terrible. And you've got some nice workable pieces. Evan Ingram Sterling Shepherd golden tate And I think I think you could work on defense with those picks and there's two great. Ohio state BUCKEYES available in the first round. So I mean listen. He knows. Ohio State personnel personnel players. The big ten players so I think urban to the New York giants would be amazing now for a year. You'd have to work with Dave gettleman but I don't think gentlemen would be long long for the giants of urban came in been it'd be a one and done situation so I think. The giants jobs underrated cowboys. Job is not a terrible job. It's a good job. I just think you have to come to terms with Jerry's GonNa make the final say. Hold the press conferences. We've normalized it. It's not normal. It's not what owners should do but it is part and parcel to the.

"Everybody welcome back from the break. Little Bear is settled in. I think he wanted some food some food in. He's calmed down a bit for those of you. That are curious how the puppy things gone. Pretty good he's He's learning. He's listening he's hungry clearly. And now he's starring in podcast so good for him but on the subject of bears and other NFC NFC teams and their mascots. That's my horrible Segue Carolina. Panthers announced on Tuesday that they were parting ways with head. Coach Ron Rivera era. As you know Ron Rivera had been a member of the bears. They're nineteen eighty five bears Ron Rivera. Salata coaches came from there but around very had been with the Carolina Panthers since two thousand eleven that was the year that the drafted Cam Newton. The first overall pick oversaw a lot of success and Carolina. At one point they went back to back to back and south champions Really high points. Certainly that two thousand fifteen season where they went fifteen. One beat the cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. That was Tony. Romo's last start by the way it was was actually came to. The cowboys were favored in as weirdly as that was good times. Good Memories but Cam Newton being hurt this season lots of factors it certainly questionable actionable that the panthers would choose to fire Ron Rivera in some people's minds but other people get it I mean he's he's he has an ad success and on the subject of his success. Because it's worth mentioning is Ron Rivera. Now has almost a decade's worth of head coaching experience that it was twelve years ago. Thirteen years ago when this off season approaches when we're in the offseason of twenty twenty that Ron Rivera Rivera interviewed for the then Vacant Dallas Cowboys Head coaching job and it was of course Wade Phillips that ultimately got that gig and I would argue that that was the last time the cowboys head coaching. The job was totally open for search because in two thousand ten the following offseason the beginning of two thousand eleven. When the cowboys were looking for head coach it was obviously? There was going to be Jason Gould especially after he went five. And three is the interim so the last time that things were to truly totally up for grabs was when Ron Rivera interviewed in two thousand and seven. Now he didn't get the job then but he did get the panthers job for years later and so he's been there a long time and I was curious so I looked up his resume. Compared to Jason Garrett also wrote about this at the site if you want to check it out block other boys dot com now Ron Rivera since two thousand eleven because he Jason Goss both took over full time as mentioned and Jason was the interim cowboys coach over the second. Half of two thousand ten. So we're not counting those games. But Ron Rivera. Since then went seventy six seventy six wins sixty three losses and the lone tie three division titles mentioned and the One Super Bowl appearance where they lost to the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning's final game now Jason Garrett has been the cowboys head coach over the same stretch of time full time he has seventy eight wings so to more than Ron Rivera sixty two losses one less than Ron Rivera and does not have a tie which is why the math is a little bit weird. Jason also has three division titles of course has the opportunity to season to earn a fourth. And while Ron Rivera has been to the Super Bowl at the very least east Jason Garrett has as you know never been to an NFC championship game. So the question becomes while Ron Rivera is capable of being fired why I is Jason Garrett and I tell you what I've said a lot of things would be the most cowboys this whatever-ever and if if Jason endured is not fired but ultimately just doesn't have his contract renewed that will be the ultimate sort of cowboys way to get rid of him. You know what I mean like if the cowboys just decide Oh you know what. We're not gonna not going to fire. You Know Jason. Yeah we'll just not gonNA bring back and he technically wasn't fired that will be the most obvious thing of all time but it is a fair question I think to ask. Why Ron Ron Rivera? Time is up with the panthers and Jason Girth is not with the cowboys. Attorney has a lot to do with the ownership. Obviously the current panthers have changed owners now owned by David Tepper And Jerry Jones still resides the Dallas cowboys. But you look at that. That doesn't bode well for Jason Garrett and again you can you can all these stats. You can talk about wins losses and records and whatnot not but it ultimately is going to come down to whether or not the Dallas Cowboys win the Super Bowl. This season if they do. I think Jason Garrett safe if they don't well he's going to be like Ron Rivera. I don't I know that Ron Rivera would be illegitimate coaching candidate for the cowboys. If they do move on from Jason Garrett I have to imagine that Rivera will be regarded as an option because people will look and say. Oh yeah well you know. He didn't have CAM in two thousand. Nineteen you know. He's still a good coach and etc and people will find reasons. I mean that's the way sort of the coaching circles and cycles go. But I don't know I think if you want a new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I don't know that you want it to be Ron Rivera. I don't know that you want to defensive coach. Maybe that is the case. Maybe the cowboys say you know what we're GONNA in a keep killing moron. He's going to sort of take control of the offense. Let's get somebody in here. Somebody who who has been to a super bowl somebody who knows what they're talking about somebody who players respect those those people around the NFL and somebody you can whip this defense into shape at Mossy. But let's let's pay some focus. Pay attention to this week's game again cowboys on the road owed against the Chicago. Bears Tomorrow Mignona on Thursday. No practice for the following members of the bears Prince Amukamara Ben. Dan Brown Accor- Taylor. Gabriel Bobby Massie and Danny Trevathan. If you're curious those are the same players who did not practice on Monday. There was limited. Participation for Belong Nichols tells. The bears defensive tackle. Let's move to the cowboys side of the injury report no practice for Jeff Heath once again no practice for late and vander. She'll get there in a second no practice for Antwon Woods Limited. Did I say Tony Parlor. We'll get to twenty two and no practice for Sean Lee. That to me seems like that day. Remember that today or oh yesterday. Tuesday was sort of like Friday for the couch. That's kind of the vet. You know. Way Sean Lee has rolled limited participation in practice with the cowboys for Michael Bennett. Randall COBB lioe okay. Oh Collins Zack. Martin Tyrant Smith and Darren Thompson basically the entire offensive line full participation in practice for Amari Cooper he seems to go Byron Jones owns. And that's it so Tony Pollard. Popped up on the injury report with an ankle injury. Who knows what the cowboys would do if he was not able to go? I mean it's not not like they're really utilizing Tony Anyway. I mean I hate to sound that Grumman that pessimistic but I mean this could be a game where they're gonNA have to run the ball given the circumstances of the weather and the conditions and and everything but I mean. It's it's hard to predict as you know late in Vansh was ruled out for this game already already. He has not played since the cowboys were on the road in their win against the Detroit lions so he has missed the last two losses. He said on the ticket on Tuesday that he's focused focused on playing basically for the duration of a career. Not just four years and it does make you wonder about what Jason Garrett said when he first talked about this he said Yeah. I mean it's not career threatening and the fact Anthony brought that up out of nowhere had a lot of people concerned But later advantage will miss his third game in a row which makes me really grateful on one hand for Sean Lee and the fact that the cowboys are able to keep him around. Although Sean Lee had a fantastic performance against the New York giants I'd his nap great ever since and look this this game in Chicago I mean like I said. We'll have another episode tomorrow. We'll kind of get more into that game specifically but this is this is it man and it's a weird thing because you can save this as it because the cowboys are kind of up against this wall. But it's really not. I mean the cowboys could lose this game and a very well might and their playoff odds are essentially the same. It's crazy I mean the. NFC East is so weird this season but the cowboys are very fortunate to be in it being the division and be in the race for it. Uh specifically I mean the Washington redskins three nine three and nine and they're still on the subject of threes by the way I realized that Taco Charleston who has five sacks ex and it has all five since joined the Miami Dolphins. That's by the way demarcus Lawrence has five sacks on the season if you want some salt in your wound but since the cowboys waived Taco nocco Charleston and he was claimed by the Miami Dolphins. Obviously those two teams met in week three so not counting that so basically from week four on the Dallas Cowboys. are three and six. The Miami Dolphins are three and six and all these things all these sad stats always depressing points. I know they're not fun. But but that's where the cowboys are right now at the center of the universe and so when they don't play well their ineptitude is highlighted. And that's just where they're at. They have some ineptitude going on. But you you know hopefully they they can bounce back sooner rather than later. It is Wednesday so hopefully you just got to have the best ones ever. Just just stop talking about it. Just have the APP loot best Wednesday of all time you know why because number one bear showed up on this episode and he. That's what I think. When he was saying he was like have the best ones? They've all time but you know why you really got to have the best ones time as he tried. And you can hear the Jingle Jangle of his color. You've got to have the best Wednesday of all old time. Because you deserve we will see you magnon on my friends as always go cowboys. It yeah the..

"Show you know me of course from BTV and from writer humble host on the show it is Wednesday December four th two thousand nineteen very happy Hump Day from all of us at blog on the boys to you. It is the middle of the work week however it is the day before the Dallas cowboys visit. Is it the Chicago bears in their week. Fourteen matchup one that they don't technically need. I know it's crazy. Cowboys could lose their next. Two Games win their final two and still win the NFC east lots to get into on that front a bit of a programming note while we do have this episode available for you on Wednesday if you were wondering what our Thursday stay schedule is going to be. Since the cowboys play on Thursday night football we will have an episode available for you on Thursday morning here on the show and then of course. We'll have our post game episode. That will go out As soon as we can get about after the game and that will serve as our Friday episode south. Just so you're prepared. But I know that I said on in two days episode that I was recording before the Monday night. Football game and that I was kind of planting my flag or moving my flag from Russell Wilson Mountain to Lamar Jackson Man. I'm so confused. The Monday night game was great. Russell Wilson was awesome. The Vikings were great to and honestly you know I kind of liked the uniform combination. That the seahawks hawks war which I'm a bit surprised about personally look whoever wins. MVP between Russell and the Mar- I think is certainly very worthy and deserving. I think I'm leaning in Lamar. I really do think I am I in spite of the great performance by Russell Wilson. But we'll see but because Russell Wilson seahawks wont and because Lamar Jackson's Ravens won beating in the San Francisco Forty niners. That's the key part. The Seattle seahawks currently sit atop the NFC west in the Dallas cowboys as they do lead the NFC FC East the cowboys. The playoffs began today. They do not but if they began today the Dallas cowboys would host the six thousand six Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys would host the ten into San Francisco. Forty niners in the wildcard round. And I think you know to spend a little time on this. It's important because that Monday night game is very very very pivotal for the overall. NFC playoff picture. And that's important because the cowboys are obviously involved. The Seattle seahawks moved to ten and two just like the forty niners whatever they have that tiebreaker because they beat them and the Minnesota Vikings fell to eight and four. Now both the seahawks and niners are ten and two and currently I. I think I think we can all assume that whoever doesn't win the NFC west is going to be the top team if you had any hope of playing the Minnesota Vikings in the wildcard round and obviously obviously. We're talking about the cowboys playing them. I think that hope went out the window on Monday night. Because the Vikings lost to the seahawks that puts them a little bit too far behind the eight ball I think. So it's sort of firmly establishes. The cowboys are going to draw if the cowboys doing the. NFC East the NFC west loser kind of boils down to who you would rather play. Obviously the cowboys hosted the seahawks in the wildcard round. Last year they won that game although a lot of people certainly believe that was because Pete Carroll insisted on running the ball and not giving it to Russell also worse than so personally. I think I would be more afraid of Russell. Wilson's seahawks Jimmy. GAROPPOLO's forty niners. I know that forty nine or defense is tough but I mean you're you're splitting hairs this talking about two of the best teams in the NFL. I think I'd rather as the forty niners and the seahawks but obviously we have a month left to get to before all of that is going to be a factor. We have some NFL news too good to certainly with regards to a different. NFC team in the Carolina. Panthers we'll get to that in a second but before we do. I want to talk about what Jerry Jones had to say. This was all over the world. Everybody talking about this. Jerry said I WANNA five thirty the fan on Tuesday morning. He's on with Sean and RJ. Every week they always do such a great great job getting him to say such juicy little things in look. Let's let's just get into it. Here's what Jerry said okay. Jerry was asked to properly set it up. He was asked. If Jason Garrett has any sort of bar that he has to hit this season with regards to you know a level of success he has to attain. Here's what Jerry Jones said on one of three the fans When I look at coach coaching and stuff is the head coach? I looked at all coach. think about there's no exclusive. Nobody's got exclusive skills skills to get the job done so that collectively you can win super bowl. But they're qualified people Jason Joe it is one of them in my opinion. Aj will be coaching in the NFL. Next you now to be perfectly clear here Jerry said there was not a bar that Jason Garrett had to get over A lot of people have taken it upon themselves to define this at different times. Some people have said it's good to the NFC championship game when the cowboys have been struggling lately. It's it's kind of become more and more clear that the bar if there is one although according to Jerry there's not is to win the Super Bowl and look I get it I mean it's it's a tall task to win the Super Bowl. You know if you're the cowboys but like we mentioned I mean they have to win two games right to get into the tournament. One of them mm-hmm has to be the eagles game now to be clear they can. They can win different games. There could be other combinations of things that happen if the Philadelphia Eagles were to lose. which doesn't seem like it's instead of the question at this point in time but Jerry is going to say this kind of stuff and this is the reality of the cowboys have to deal with for now but the coaching in is is questionable? I think it's fair to wonder why you know it's been over here to wake. I should say because when Games are on Thursdays as the all twenty two films available later than it usually is and so. It's a lot longer until film reviews. Get up and things like that and if you consume a lot of cowboys content than I know you so you've been affected by this but I thought Bob Sturm from the ticket from the athletic who does a great job in his decoding. More susie does every week. Hit a great line about the cowboys. Special Teams Unit. I mean this speaks of the whole team but I think it's certainly speaks to the special teams and this again go really. It's in the athletic if you don't have an athletic subscription certainly atlan courage that they are starting their average drive inside their twenty three yard line since week nine which as you know is even worse than a touchback after kickoff think about that the cowboys average starting field position is worse than if they were to just take knees out of the end zone every single time now. Some of that isn't isn't kickoff. Some of that is puns and some of that is turnovers if they happen. I tweeted the interception leaders for the cowboys and season it's grim executor. Woods has two interceptions and enjoying Lewis. Each have won. The cowboys have four interceptions in total. So far this season as a group there are a lot of players players. In fact there are three players that have more than them individually Minkah Fitzpatrick. Marcus Peters and Devin mccourty each have five. You'll note that two of those Minkah Fitzpatrick and Marcus. Peters both traded. You did this season. So that's a little depressing but yeah man. I mean this. This coaching situation is not going away. And I tell you what you know. This is Wednesday Wednesday that you and I are talking if the cowboys win tomorrow. I don't think anybody's really gonNA care. I don't think any is going to be bad because guess what that's another low level team that you'd be. Maybe if the cowboys go out they beat the rams next week. Okay maybe some people start to pay a little bit more attention because you you beat a high quality team and we'll see. What the reins do this week as? Well but I mean this is these are rough the times for Jason Garrett and it certainly did not help You Know Jerry. I mean it sounds weird to say but Jerry is not helping the situation at this point by talking about it. And what else can he say. I know that it's going to be your response. But every time Jerry voices support support for Jason Garrett people just roasted and that's the reality of the situation. They're in a lose lose situation where everyone's going to be mad if they do you mad if they don't they're going to say they're going to say that it's going to be relentless people are going to be after Jason Garrett in the cowboys because they feel like they've seen enough I mean they feel like the New England patriots game was just about the last straw and if you already felt that way than the buffalo bills lost certainly put you over the edge which is where the cowboys find themselves. But such is life when you're six and six thankfully solely for the cowboys they're six and six but they lead the NFC east. Because it is so bad I mean my goodness it is bad I don't even know if if we can can. We assume that the eagles are GonNa win this week. Because I don't know that we can assume that they're they're bad in their own special kind of bad So I mentioned that we gotta get to Ron Rivera big news around the NFL certainly in terms of another coach domino sort of fell another option soon. There's my puppy bear. He's barking so he wants to be part of this conversation. let's go ahead and take care of their shoutout to him. Make an appearance here. Don't go anywhere before we get to Ron Rivera and all that stuff. We're GONNA take a very quick break to hear a word from sponsors. This episode is brought to you by. CBS Sports HQ so much sports TV nowadays is full of made up trauma. It's a bunch of hot takes from people who don't believe what they're saying just beating the same topics into the ground but CBS sports. HQ's change all that..

"In owners seven oh five on WBZ straight ahead we'll talk to so he get his reaction to the big news yesterday about Ron Rivera but right now as promised the Rush Limbaugh morning update you know it seems like it was only yesterday that liberals were celebrating Ruth Buzzi Ginsburg's exercise program is such an exercise program you what I couldn't do it the Supreme Court justice was able to perform a grueling workout routine in her eighties that even people in their twenties could not do what a difference the a year of hospital visits makes now liberals are behaving as if she pretty much left the building abject panic seven last week when justice Ginsburg had a fever and was admitted at Johns Hopkins hospital for a few days now in the past year she's had surgery for lung cancer she was treated for pancreatic cancer before that she cracks several ribs in a fall so no liberal activists are obsessing over a potential Supreme Court vacancy and are demanding that trump not fill ME opening until after the twenty twenty election but they're focusing on the wrong person its Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell the turtle who decides whether a Supreme Court nominee gets a hearing and a vote now so far the turtle says forget what happened with Merrick garland that was Obama's pick who did not get a vote because it was an election year if trump has a chance to make a nomination the Senate will take up the turtle said so which is music to my ears it's exactly what the Democrats would do if they have the chance those are the breaks elections have consequences more Rush Limbaugh today at noon on WB today seven oh seven and W. B. C. coming up this hour long time Charlotte observer columnist Tom Sorensen weighs in on the end of the Rivera era and seven twenty make mix and play by play voice of the Carolina Panthers will join us at seven fifty first the governor of Corey long time friendship with coach Rivera you'll hear his thoughts about an hour from right now and at seven oh seven wanna get the thoughts of Jim's Okie who has been on the Carolina Panthers radio broadcast team since day one so the capers era the Seaford era the fox era and now the Rivera era what are your thoughts as we start off today yeah it's very similar I think to the John Foxx era both went nine years both went to a Superbowl I didn't win in the case of Iran order though the winningest coach in franchise history because John's last season was kind of a point it was two and fourteen and in that case lame duck situation we continue through the end of the year ever know is going to happen in this case with Ron David temper being up front that he's made up his mind answers are moving forward want to have a search where they're not sneaking around the building behind runs back let him know now give Ron that courtesy and also give Ryan a chance to kind of have an extra month to make what in his mind his plans maybe does he want to jump right back into coaching next year take a year off whatever those decisions he'll make I will find out some more today a fifteen during his press conference but I thought in terms of how you can handle a difficult situation this is about as well as you can handle it by being up front and making a business decision and saying we're going to go a different direction we're gonna value eight Perry fuel as an interim head coach Scott Turner is an offense of corners here we have on staff with those positions and beyond that brought in the search obviously and and look for will be the fifth head coach in franchise history so Ron Rivera expected to meet with the media a little over an hour from right now or least make some sort of statement outgoing statement at the stadium so will monitor that for you David Tepper us spoke last night in several places first at Panthers dot com with bill both and then he I held a round table with us select reporters at which point in time he talked about the discussion he had with Ron Rivera and when he told him what his intentions were yesterday unless it was a a tough conversation not tough because was a tough conversation tough because it was an emotional conversation I consider wrong with her friend there's one of fun as human beings I know it's not easy to have those kind of conversation with people you hold in such high regard in all the people that you like a lot they're just tough the personally cuff on my anguished over it but I ultimately decided that I was definitely you know going to make these changes and I you know how to have a conversation because I lied again eyes as I said I'm not I respect him and way too much to do anything but talk to directly so he holds Ron Rivera in high regard he also has to be thinking in the back of his head I'll probably or my team will probably be competing against a Ron Rivera coached team sometime down the line and possibly in the not too distant future that's very likely I think Ron who's fifty seven would want to coach much further into his career although he's had a long run here for nine years the resume of twice being an NFL coach of the year getting team to the Superbowl be attractive to teams that have not done such things have not had such coaches before but again the again John possible quality coaches and John went on to coach in Denver and Chicago got two more head coaching opportunities but Ron will have that opportunity to be in the pool of the candidates dead be that to cure one available candidates I look at something like Mike McCarthy you got like a like Green Bay you happen to take a year off this year I think you'll be back coaching somebody based on what he's done in Green Bay in the past that he's in that vein of coaches that's had success in this league and will have the opportunity to coach again elsewhere but you know what it what it is I don't know I mean what why the defense didn't quite work out the way they wanted this year that did that was kind of his calling card being a defensive coordinator in the past just having come together the way that everyone envision that would and that's obviously on the players as much as anybody else to make that happen well and you like you mentioned John fox went on to coach in Chicago and in Denver and Ron Rivera Angie if you look around the league I think you would have found a lot of people who would have said that there's a good chance he would not be capped after this season based on what's happened but I don't think he it by any stretch would be the the most likely candidate to be fired of some of the other ones that are out there I mean kitchens in Cleveland comes to mind is one whose branches were playing Atlanta this week yeah Dan Quinn down there is there what they do yes but now with three wins this year than so and your start speculating was talking Hancock last hour he said I'll I'll I'll be the first to say it may be Ron Rivera coach is the cowboys next year I'm Sittin here thinkin maybe the San Diego Chargers make a coaching change and we know where Ron Rivera came from so this is the NFL we live in today at the shock of the story was happened yesterday today of the B. more more discussion about who goes where now because of this move and that's not just run repair that's cam Newton that's who comes here as whether.

"I believe so. This is going to present for the Patriots. No one actually knows it's like hey who needs an appendix get back out on the field focused and I say for the For All the heads out there that this is the best thing that could happen because when you didn't want to see him thrive with evil empire. Let's let's get him back and it's getting practicing. Now you're a fan of Kai I I because ever since we kinda connected the dots that I might have something to do with it. Potentially Oh career changing playoff kicks in foxborough borough. That'd be terrible for them. Give me a break. This was his chance liked it. No matter what no matter who they tried out there at this point he's blowing the game for him my favorite. Ah I think what I want him to get back in the league with a team. That's not the Patriot. I am convinced. Not The jets. SPELLCHECK took delay of game penalty. To make kyw's extra point a little longer in the second half of that game just as a test and that was is I'm just GonNa mess with Kaya Little Bit. Look at the long term picture and and see how he handles. This Guy Yanked and at that point he was an expert. How much money did he make for? Essentially one week of work with the Patriots. I don't know if it's over under like twenty grand not a bad it's gotta be. It's it's yeah minimum is what eight hundred thousand. And then you divide that by seventeen so be a kicker bill be bad kicker that gets pulled in like by team for one week and make you know sixty seventy thousand sixty seven and then go back and do nothing for the next two years and a I mean the problem with Kaikai. He got us to that lifestyle when I was really high and suddenly you got a mortgage the Bay guy. Haikai they call them. You got you got women. You've got everything. Well we don't know that he has all those things but and one last note in the news. I always like these things one. The best plays of the year. Is that trick play on Sunday night. Shawn Watson receiving the past some deandre Hopkins. It was revealed that Hopkins and Wha Watson Jud up on a piece of notebook paper and handed it to the coach like when football. It's like broken down to just kids. Playground feels very nineteen seventy. It's it's awesome. It's it's a great little twist to that they've been practicing for four weeks. It's very similarly The steelers players were talking about how Mike Tomlin got on the chalkboard at halftime against the brass in roque down they were in high school. Here's what we're GonNa do to break marks settlers heart. Yeah it's like you know thought even a dry race board chalkboard like that Zolak. Do you think he's gotten over it yet. The loss well the trick play.

"Spoke cannot get to nine o'clock quick enough on Sundays. Nickel for every time. Great here right. And then it's Dan singing it and then Greg and then someone else turning around and then it's actually on the television vision for you know who who's happy about the champ you to Jada casts back data kiss. was that his hats. And those checks tim and Eminem an good for him and his money. Zim Wrap thank all right so yes Rhonda Veras can but Jason might not be far behind Jerry. Jones is doing doing the media tour Ever since the Thanksgiving loss to the bills put Dallas's season upside down and jared did a Uh of course he was in front of the locker room and tears talking about how this team had get Disney ending in store and and don't give up on a stat yet And now he's on the radio One five three the fan. And he's talking about Jason Garrett and being a head coach not necessarily without being a head coach in two thousand twenty. Nobody's got the exclusive skills to get the job done so that collectively you can win super bowl. But they're qualified the FAD people Jason Joy is one of them in my opinion would be coaching in the NFL. Next well mark you just got mad. What about champion? You gotta be mad about that. Come on well I mean the one thing I said over and over is that I'd I would not be surprised. If joining Ron Rivera soon would be Jason Garrett because the tidbit that interests me is Lincoln Riley the Oklahoma coach Ian rapoport saying that he's formed in quotes a close relationship with Jerry Jerry Jones and I think that there is going to be competition as I thought I would have been last year for Lincoln. Riley who has shown an ability to work with young college system quarterbacks quarterbacks and so do you want to be the you know overly procedural cowboys the wait until after week seventeen and yet you're the cowboys. Do you have an advantage. No matter what order you get on that bus sooner or later if you know you're already talking about Jason Garrett this way if your boss was talking about you this way to people publicly I'd be concerned I'd it'd be looking for. Ib looking around Jason Garrett you can see it on his face to some degree I feel like engaged Someone Ping me saying how can you possibly know what Jason Garrett is thinking by what he says on his face because we mentioned that during the Thanksgiving telecast or broadcast whatever it was that didn't get broadcasted tanned. They're like he's the same face all the time I know he is but it just seems seems to have that look in his eyes where you can see it coming. He's out and I think that if you really want Lincoln Riley and you want to move that train that Jerry Jones is already thinking that way that somebody had their eared or the garage door at my house or one of the one of the ten or twelve people that it's somehow escaped. Eric not blaming Erica. Nor would I ever for this. That would set a new precedent. You're suggesting that a first place team earmarked for the playoffs with fire. It's coach I mean that calling them. A first place team is like not when we well. We got a new book. The Brock osweiler leading the Texans to the playoffs thing. They are about as first place team right now as have been through a lot today. You don't have to bring up the brock osweiler. That's why I'm not against cowboys. Are Six and six in first place last season it would. It would be weird because yeah they're trying all they gotta do is get to the dance and they'll have a home game and you know what's going to happen. I mean in theory. He could decide he'd rather have crisper. Chard being the head coach but why. It doesn't avenue surveyed long ago. I still don't think he. He basically said he'll do it through the end of the season. It's just hilarious. I mean it's the most Jerry Jones quote ever. I wish every owner was was like this. If you really think about it I mean. He was willing to talk about stabilize like halfway through what he's saying. And he's like how do I save this defending hadn't even Garrett but he's I think he'll be a coach in the. NFL might be a position coach. The rest of the nation made sense. I thought he was he was he was congrats. It'll be a coach in the NFL. Sports are so stupid and and the most beautiful way that you're right mark. The cowboys shouldn't be taken seriously. They're six and six and they're not true playoff team. You know watch him beat the niners in wild card weekend at home. I mean it's like should not surprise anyone. I mean just like this ebbs saying the idea things change so quickly the NFL. So I would think firing Garrett or is that what you're saying maybe should be let go now. I'm saying I could see how about this. What if you wanted to get a under pressure look in what this is not a super bowl team and Jerry Jones? I know he's delusional at times has to see that. What if you wanted to give Chris Rashard who I think is a head coach himself and waiting a test run during a high pressure month and this is what happens because maybe the big the big thing that keeps coming up with Jason Garretta's cannot connect with players? Here's will maybe Chris Rashard cannon. Turn this locker room. It is something else and you go void. These postgame shouting matches in the locker room. They are not on the same age as a team. If you wear IRV small sample sizes to like Freddie Kitchens using him as an example I totally marrone guy. His job from two games with Blake Bortles one of which they lost. That's fine you know what you have if you have a large sample size on Jason Garrett. What's that got you? It's going to be more of the same month from it. I would respect. That would take some stones to turn it over to Chris Rashard and maybe it would produce some some results that you weren't getting from Jason so we're GonNa Fire Garrett now I'm saying it's in the air it's it's gotTa be Jones his out. That would be studying. What did they got waxed? Thirty to seven on on on Thursday night football against the bears. And you and I have to wait fifteen twenty minutes thirty minutes to wrap up because this news is breaking. I could see that being terrible. They don't even speak into being real of the world. You know you just want to wait for the press conferences. I get some sound you know you want to the cover. That's a big story tomorrow. We'll we'll we'll call you to in for because I would definitely need all four of us. So let's move on The Jacksonville Jaguars are in tatters. Right now speaking of Doug Marrone following a twenty eight eleven loss to the bucks in which Nick foles turned it over and each of his first three possessions. All three of those positions leading two touchdowns for the enemy marrone went back to garment you at the half and he announced. That's what we all expected. That meant. She will stay in the lineup Both this Sunday against the chargers chargers and for the balance of the regular regular season. So Menchu back in and the minute. You maniacs Get their guy. And that's good. I would say to me. Mark the biggest storyline. Now out of this is what the hell they're going to do. Nick foles this guy they just signed to. What an eighty eight million dollar contract with a ton of money guaranteed? What is the next step in this marriage? Now it's a wait and see if the next coach that goes to Carolina has a lot to think about and a lot to ponder along with the rest of the team for Cam. Newton Sodas the next coach in Jacksonville. There's going to be a new coach there. Barring something shocking. That would be stunning stunning. And they've got to figure out what to do with the situation and I will point out that the minute minute Gardner. Men's shoe came in. The browns dropped ten. Nothing Baker Mayfield was on fire. And what happened to the browns. The Minute Gardner. When the minute mentioned how it I'm telling you what what this what you're you're there either my doppler theory that they are there too much alike and there's too much of the same thing in the Gardner Mints? You pulled energy government. She went out of the lineup. The browns won three in a row. He came back in with them up. Ten nothing in Pittsburgh steelers Baker Mayfield is a terrible fumbled. The browns melt away gardeners back starting again troubling troubling. So what do you want to happen then. I am very conflicted. Because I like Gardner minhsiu too and I. I don't know what to do. He would have to I all in all of it ends after this season. And all the whatever's happening quickly ends after this season against Carolina. Yeah I think the next coach possibly the next. GM are going to decide what they do. Do At quarterback in falls is almost impossible to cut you end up paying more money on the cap to cut him. Then you would just just to keep him but he could be very tradable if you're willing to eat some of his salary cap and that becomes a little a little more palatable that if they really WanNa get rid of him I think someone would trade for especially the Jaguars eat some money but again. I don't think it didn't work for the. I mean talk about small sample size. It didn't work for for the three games. Three and a half games. He played coming off a serious injury. Obviously but they're in better shape at quarterback than they have been you know for the rest of This decade with falls in Minzhu. So I I don't think it's like some you know emergency. Their team is an emergency. I was surprised I looked at your power rankings. Dan Dan I mean to me. They'd be number thirty two. I think they are the worst team in the NFL right now. I mean in terms of how they playing. They have not been within three scores of an opposing team in in five straight game. Four Straight Games. That's outrageous I blew it or not you blow it is just say there's a case The late twenties. I just a bad. He's just a bad combination with that offensive line. which was getting its doors? Blow off by bucket. Nears Pass rushers in that game and even mentioned when he came in had to make incredibly quick jump cuts to get out of the way just to get passes off and I think the the three games we saw with Foale's it looked like a much less effective version. Asian of the FLACCO broncos offense where you had this as mark would say stone pony behind an alternate pony stone-age Pony who cannot block and foles just moved to slow. I'm Chad Khan was kind of the David Tepper of the League when he came in and he's done some interesting things and clothing making them. You know the team in London. I am really fascinated to see what they do with their off-season in there about his analytic minded as any team in the NFL Finally News Kai forbath boy. He's been convicted from the kicker club. That was quick A day after appearing in his first game with the Patriots a game in which he missed an extra point but but he absolutely hammered a twenty three yard field goal through the UPRIGHTS and also hit an extra point The pats decide to go on a different directions action so for Beth was waived and Nick Volks. Who's been on the mend following that appendectomy which led to the four about signing is folk back in now in order to they? Are they looking for another kicker. And what are we up to five. I think this how you went super bowl. If folk is healthy. Yeah and the plan is he's he's back. So yeah he's Stephen cousy. They started with then they went to the new dodge then. They went to folk hero and they brought him off golf course then they got sky and now backed act folk..

"Some news is back and Greg headed. I The champion Air Commercial For NFL shop his come to it. Looks like it's wound down and been replaced by a holiday add and that was a big. That was a big gap. FBI Greg I gotta give it. I got it was a big part of the double source that so if it shows up back Sunday I guess it's GonNa look that eat some crow and But the champ has been been here for so long he's been part of our life the champion here. I miss him and I'll say this. There is a subsection of football twitter. And this be this was news to me. 'cause I reported it and I properly cited you greg. Having I that Patriots fans coming out of the woodwork. Well it it upset that all these times. I've been watching this commercial. They're annoyed that no one's wearing patriots gear in that commercial. The actual champ checks were not there. That's the level of You you know. Those are the biggest issues. They're dealing with right now. Fan Base. It's like yeah that's not. It's a bunch of young hip. Cool people dancing around. That's not really the Patriots Fan. What about the browns guy with the biting motion? I see here's an. I don't want so on Sundays when we're tracking you know three games at the same time. You're watching television with sound. You have of an earpiece in your ear with three other games red zone. Have I don't have any. I'm going commercial because when you get in that area the day where three commercial title breaks in your time in the champ here is playing a second and a half off from each version and it's blasting throughout the entire room and then it happens twenty five more times and then you have Dannon. I'm greg singing it throughout the year. Slamming it slamming students. What this stopping funny about two and a half months ago and you persist with the joke and it goes on on on our show? They.

"Yes the Minnesota. Vikings went to Seattle. Things started well. They had the lead at the half but then the seahawks did what they always do which is find a way home. They started scoring recklessly in the second half and thirty seven to thirty win Penny and Chris Carson have great game both of them book. Great gains both went over one hundred total yards Russell. Wilson made his big plays as he always does. Including that David with more touchdown wes Seattle now takes over first place in the NFC west. It's time but they have the tiebreaker. The niners they move all the way up to the number two seed. How impress were you by this particular performance well it seemed to have a lot of the hallmarks of most of their like late game adrenaline adrenaline rush performances? I think difference in this one is. We're seeing Rashad Penny now back to back weeks emerges that one two who punch out of the backfield this is starting to look like last year. Where their running game is just dominating? The offensive line probably had their best game of the year and they piled up four hundred hundred forty four yards on a good defense and it seemed to me like they just offense if the seahawks are now bullying people in a way they wanted to earn the urine couldn't and defensively actively their defensive line has come alive and dictated the action over the past month and the way they didn't earlier in the year I thought they really overwhelmed the Vikings offensive. It's of line in this one. I'm a along with Rashad Penny. It's a team where they don't have. They have some stars. But you got every game key plays from guys like John Reid. Read quandary digs. WHO's been awesome? We talked to him Bradley macdougald Regime Green Ziggy Ansah. They all did key things last night. And they're using six offensive Lineman to pound people bowl and I can't think of a coach whose image and overall higher ability in general has changed more undercarriage and Brian Schottenheimer who with the rams and in previous stops was viewed as a stuck in the past totally. He came out where Mark Sizzler. But you know what I was very down on on everyone else including me it. I heard it hurt me hurt already. SCHOTTENHEIMER's one of my favorite coaches. But I think Brian Shot and came into this year. Saying we're going to throw running backs we're going to use them in different ways and it's proven true true especially now that it's two guys and their offense is dangerous and the seahawks strike me as a team where we can look at a couple of these divisional winner types where they don't the lead you can get to them. They can be beaten. They need the lead to succeed and to flourish in certain cases and the scene like they can win. They what they've won two over time. I you know the seahawks games overtime in the past four weeks they can win any type of football game. I don't care where they're at at halftime. They're never out of it. We say every week because it's true. Well they also I mean they've in their four biggest games of the year they've given up. You know defensive or special teams touchdowns they won a couple of them. They've they've lost a couple of like weird things happen in their game. This was an interesting Monday. Primetime game with two stars at at quarterback and you had the cousins angle and I didn't think it was about the quarterbacks x I just didn't. This was a game where the quarterbacks didn't matter but cousins played pretty well. I don't think it was one of Russell. Wilson's best games of the year. I'd say as good as this year that he's had I would say it was probably one of his worst games of the year You know a couple a couple of things he would take back with Schottenheimer though. It's funny seahawks. Twitter is a wild magical place. There's still an argument whether they're good despite Schottenheimer or good because of him and they and there's definitely a lot of frustration with a gay the management of you know they punt on fourth and one very early in the game despite that good running attack in the Vikings score right afterwards. They waste time outs like like no other team in the league. And it's like people the weird. Yeah it's not like the biggest difference between Brian. Schottenheimer now is like Russell. Wilson Mark Sanchez says is there. I mean how and that's not even a shot against him this I'd say the same up. Mike Penn research back till now with many offense accordionist. I would say most. You're tied to your quarterback in so many ways. Maybe he's one of those guys a wild suggestion for that corner of seahawks nation. What if stay with me here instead of litigating your offense coordinator coordinator every week? Just enjoy the ride. The rest of the right. I mean this is. This is a team to enjoy. They had the ball for forty minutes. And it's interesting because they don't don't have Tyler Lockett right now really. He's out in the field but he's not the same guy that he was not early in the season I think he has one catch over the last two weeks. He's someone that's played laid through injury but not you know played well through injury in the past. And that's what's happening right now. Josh Gordon has not been a factor but they but decay metcalfe's stepped up to the point of graph. Metcalf DECAF. Yes he could be in the mix for offensive rookie of the year. If you don't feel like giving it to a quarterback I came out of the scary behind Josh Jacobs I came out of this game like not in the Vikings and one of the teams that I've distinctly said that's fine. I know you're GonNa make the playoffs and you're GONNA YOU'RE GONNA get wacked at some point you don't have to agree with me but I just there's just just too much high class operations going on in the NFC right now but this game in the loss made me think much more of them. The way that they there is a bit could have been buried at one point at a lot hotline way back over and over and kill him for losing in Seattle. On Monday I agree with that but the the Davin cook injury bothers me a shoulder for a running back really bothers me because I've seen so many good running backs go from running with abandoned fearlessness. We've seen it from Ryan Mathews Mark Ingram when they had shoulder injuries to running with a completely tentative style after the shoulder injury. And that's something to look. Yeah they have a good backup with Madison. which you'll help but he's not the same player? He's a totally different player. I hated the Vikings game because this was their chance. Up by a touchdown coming out of the half to really stamp themselves says we are one of the truly elite. NFC teams and I think it just reinforced to me. Anyway that they're just a tier below. Maybe the top of that next year but still not a team that I think is going to go through the NFC which is which is a gauntlet. Obviously the side assault team. That could've they could've lost his forty two to twenty and who had been right. I have no faith in you and I thought that their second half was one where they were they did not give up on any level. Right bad luck. I mean they're I four drives. Were a three and out Cook Cook gets injured and loses a fumble on the same play digs drops a pass that turns into an intersection nick. Six kind of average. Here's Jay. There are some crazy plays in but ultimately kirk cousins did have a chance to go win the game on their last drive and he played well in the fourth quarter but some of their play calling that you're you're throwing it to Liquan Treadwell and then a cover of Smith is the only option on fourth down. I'm I'm a little concerned. I'm Vikings Fan that the run defense has been so bad In this game the past even has been bad and other weeks they bench Xavier Rhodes at one point still moving. He said after the game you know they tried to talk to him. And he's just like I'm out out the door and that you know he that's a bad situation. There's just like there's just hasn't played. Well he lends her is just you know Riley Reef is hurt their their left tackle didn't play the second half of this game. They've got some issues got overcome with the schedules favorable. Yeah and this west this is. I'm glad Greg brought up so I didn't have to but I will note the Kirk. Cousins did take the field with three seventeen to play in all three of my God. You'RE GONNA try to make this about kirk cousins. That's got to be said so with all your you're this particular you're gonna Kirca's someone needs to say it. No you really don't don't you and the rest of twitter do not have to say. Hey this this is about kirk cousins. You don't have to a second. I didn't say that you're you're being selective and what you're hearing from me right now. This loss was on their defense mostly but it should be said. He takes the field three seventeen to play three timeouts down. Four points goes five and out. That's all I'm saying that's all I'm saying. Thank you could save. All I'm caring about is kirk cousins. Here's that was a coma because it happened at a time when you were watching. You think it's more important than any other game. Where a quarterback takes the field with three minutes left and I watch all the games west? I'm saying this game. When's the last time you pointed out? Another quarterback in a similar situation didn't get it done because kirk cousins is is different than the other quarterbacks about it all year it's forks and torches crew on twitter F- decided he's a laughingstock point. And where is the pitchfork right now. where the brought it out? He did not have to talk about kirk cousins. There you realize I game was not kirk cousins as you see your feelings right now. I am heading Out that you're being unfair tug him into his feelings. I just said it just had to be said he didn't get it done. That's my whole point but it was said West and that narrative remains intact pat gray. Keep your narrative. I saw a couple little websites trying to throughout cheap kirk cousins jokes and everyone's shot him down and said for me. You know you didn't like s is little pop culture website or whatever. Oh Hey let's do it Dr Phil Cook Kirk Kirk cousins now joke stale when a guy leads the league in passer ready for seven straight weeks. You're not really going to make jokes about his passing anymore. I for one just want to be on record. I'm glad you brought it up. And it was not his fault and they talk Ellen's healing was part of the GEICO insane. No one saying it was his fault. I don't think it was but that was an opportunity for their team that they will rue. I mean that he had they had an incredible comeback and they did have a chance for a massive win that would keep them in first place in the NFC north. That would have been one of the most. Stirring winds of the entire Mike Zimmer era and when they got that ball. I like a lot of vikings fans kinda switched. I mean I was. I was excited to see what was going GonNa happen the way it was going. It felt like maybe they're going to go down the field. I don't put it on cousins in the very short on their wide receivers but it was a blown opportunity that that they're going to be angry about..

"Modern and innovative prostheses. We will consider a wide range of football executives that complement our current football staff. One change that we will implement. Is Hiring an assistant general manager vice president of football operations. Did you mention this yet. Cut The miss of do you believe he. Ah Do you believe that these. CEO's ever write that. Yeah well I blow it. How they say dictates verbal notes and someone else racing in a giant Microsoft word? So you know going through paragraphs and cutting there's a lot of buzz. He's analytic minded that he wants something. That's cutting edge and even even mentioned it like a mix of old old school versus new. We'll see what that means. I do think that people are ready to say goodbye to Cam. Newton there and that Cam Newton could be extremely attractive to some coaching candidates. That make the case of why they have a plan to keep Cam Newton. Well if you're other only other option is Alan and will greer who can't overtake Kyle. Allen then I think I would be shocked at this point of Cam. Newton is not. Is this a good job yes I mean any. NFL head coach. You Click David Tepper and you find out that two years in you. Still Click with David tepper. I think it is but the roster you got some players Kahlon Short you got Luc Luke Equally Shaq Thompson Receiver. Group is good. You Got Christian. McCaffrey should've mentioned right at the top. I think so and I think you have an owner. That's that's GONNA spend and we should mention NORV NORV. Turner is no longer there offense later. He is the assistant to the new interim coach. Perry fuel and Scott Turner. North Sun is taking over play-calling recalling which is which is strange in it reminds me Rivera's challenge in this hiring psycho because I'm sure he'll get interviews. He's a good coach and has a great record but he's not an offensive coach. So what's his plan for offense. Who is he bringing with him wherever he would go? That's GonNa be the first question anyone asks them. They're moving into a brand new facility next next year Just across the border in South Carolina. I think rock hill. They have an owner who seems from afar. Who really wants to win? He's competitive but let's his football. People make their football decisions and I did like what he said about the mix of sort of the innovative new school approach with the old school discipline. I mean I think most owners owners are probably going for that but I think it's a good job Kevin Colbert by the way the steelers. General Manager is unsigned going into next year. When out of his way to not re sign with the steelers and tapper was the minority with the steelers dot connector a long time so that was good? That was I mean. So was Jimmy House Lem so and they have that little pink pony operation of their own going on and I do Ron Rivera on the giant sideline that makes a lot of sense to me. However her as we talked about downstairs Dave gettleman and Ron Rivera not bedfellows at this point so maybe the GM would have to be swept at it and we know that for sure? What a strange term I would imagine? GETTLEMAN is out but I mean like we. It's so funny how. We assume that we know these people don't like each other like each other. We don't know if I was going off with Gregg I said I know there's been some there's been some other Thoughts that could make sense. Who knows a reunion reunion? Oh that had her child reunion breath. Is that one was. Oh Yeah That's Pulsar Greg Greg. It does have these back channel whispers down you know you never know. When he's he's coming loaded for a podcast outcast with material that you don't think he has? Oh yeah these privy to things having Ian on on speed all right. Let's let's now circle Michael Back and let's do a little Monday night. Football Talk.
