"What was their what were their young lives? Like what were they doing to be able to pursue sport at the highest level? And so I felt like I ultimately had all these stories about these amazing women and in a way I felt like a bit of a caretaker of the history like it was up to me to share this and so the first right when I look back now was it terrible? Let's be honest. I cannot it right. I was a engineer by trade. I was very technical. It was just kind of, you know game synopsis and whatever but when I was on birth National team, I did take I wrote a lot of Diaries. I took a lot of sort of notes, but I also our team was forced to do log books. So every day you had to walk you right real you what you ate how you slept what your work it was like so that was also beneficial because in those log books I had written and I don't know if this is just a whole thing, but I wrote every single goal and how it went in and what I could have done differently, you know in a way to allow me to get better but also looking back at it. I see a lot of you know angst or frustration on a certain goal or maybe I was okay with it was a great shot and that really gave a lot of color to the situation and there was a lot of game tape that I had taped on VHS video, so I didn't have a VHS player. But so I had to transfer it all and then re watch the game tape. So in the meantime, I yep. Took some writing courses and tried to really put myself in the situation so that the reader felt like they were going through with me and not just telling the reader what to think or dead who these people were so I try not to pass any judgments on what you should feel or what you should think cuz everybody will be in a different space, but I wanted to put myself in the situation say you knew what was going on around me who were the influences who were these women and what really were their personalities and so well it it is not a story about them or say it is about the amazing influence that they had on my life and sort of our in team as we went forward. So the second question was it hard to write once I wrote from that perspective in that moment. Some of the stuff was really hard to write and I would go to bed like angry and mad all over again. Like I had just been either cut or I'd just been pulled from a game and my poor husband. I had to deal with that like I'd be cooking supper dive just be like angry at like certain coaches or this is like twenty years later and I think he just kind of rush to decide to be like, you know, what what game are you writing about today? Or but it is and it was hard even every time I'd go back and edit certain games. I would still be months later, you know, and so it's been very cathartic for me. I think had not written at all and not gone through it all so many times and now even reading it out loud to people it's made me more at peace with the decisions and why the decisions were made and and really ultimately the role that I played and ultimately just being proud of the situation that I was fortunate to walk in but also of the influence that I could have in those moments wow. Why did you choose to be a goalie? I know you played hockey cuz of your brother a white gold. So I just I really liked I mean ultimately just really like the equipment. I would watch Hockey Night in Canada and it just looks so cool. Like these guys just look like Warriors. I don't know. It was awesome. I used to sit in front of Hockey Night in Canada. And I would have I would like draw pictures of the goalies as they were playing in my youth and so I always kind of gravitated towards goaltending when we're playing street hockey. I just really liked it my brother tried a year of goaltending when he was nine years old. So that was sort of the family tradition is I wasn't allowed to watch become a goalie until I was nine. So I tried it when I was nine and my parents said, you know, once try it at the beginning you have to you have do it for the entire season, so my brother tried it four at the beginning of the season and he hame That and he had to like last through the entire season. So he was a kind of goalie. That would be like a Ron Hextall and come out just smashed you cuz he'd be angry at letting a goal in but when I tried it, I just love love to being sort of an Hockey while initially I gravitated the goal-tending because of what it was. I think stuck with goaltending because of it allowed me to play at the highest level and had I been a former right away when I was ten and one in fact, we had checking right away. And so I'm not sure that I would have lasted very long as a female playing in the AAA boys loop back in the day. But as a goaltender you could you could just kind of be in your net and not have to really worry about that. So a lot of my generation of women there's a lot of very strong goaltenders because we're kind of all forsook at situations like okay if you want to play with the guys like yeah, you can be the goalie so you don't get hit as often. So I've been told you know, whether it's a goalie in hockey or the dog catcher in baseball. That you you guys are a special breed of people, you know, I don't know what it is. I don't know. Yeah become managers.

"April the fifteenth thank you guys thank you DG appreciate it my friend all you know I remember that ninety three if I remember it right the islanders eliminated the penguins in overtime right yes David Volek in game seven beat the penguins and put the hours in the Eastern Conference finals if I remember that right for a for a cheese burger who is the goal for the islanders isn't golf it was that Ron Hextall Glenn Healy what's already I was sorry all right it was closed okay it was pretty good yeah which is funny because Ron Hextall was in the playoffs that year he was with the Quebec Nordiques and may god be by Montreal in six games okay I was close to that a lot of hockey talk a child metal the job I was great thank you did you mention it well it was fun stuff right that the ninety three five member David Volek scored in overtime a game selective the penguins came from behind to score like two these are the payments were unbeatable this is like Maryland you if your armor yagara Kevin Stevens it was like all the penguins the penguins and the islanders beat him it's like oh my god they beat him and then they lost the Canadians Canadians beat the kings of X. sorely and everything went from there so the second part of this trade between the Texans and the rams went down today you had the Texas side of it now the rams side of it and here's where you're gonna have to eat a big reality sandwich if you're the rams the rams in going all in for the Super Bowl two years ago now are paying for it because all the players they brought in Hey let's try to do it we'll we'll try to catch it this year and we'll worry about next year next year I kinda like that Hey whatever happens now we're we're all day to day here so we'll live for today and worry about tomorrow tomorrow that's fine and now they're having to worry about tomorrow you've already seen them have to part ways with players because they make too much money weren't as effective as they thought they were going to be and not just Todd Gurley would now your scene Brandin cooks are cooks you know falling and out out of favor and be traded the rams are another team that this is going to be another year where don't expect a lot you know they're not replacing this talent that is leaving they're just simply losing talent look they they made the trade for Jaylen Ramsey they want to keep him there's only so much money that goes around for so many positions this is going to be one of those bridge years for the rams where okay we lose these guys we gotta get we gotta get back some financial flexibility and they haven't really brought in any players to take their place so we can keep it going I think the rams kinda know we gotta try to get through this year with what we have hope that some guys take a step up in the next year we make another run at free agency with more money available because we can't just keep doing what we're doing here eventually got to pay the Piper we saw they took a step back last year from the Super Bowl they'll take another step back even more this year just because again talent going out not enough talent coming in until they can replenish it next year yeah you could get lucky in the draft and you could you know you get a receiver and and things will work out for right now I guarantee the rams plan as we kind of got to suck it up this year and then we got to move on look as everybody else in that division is going to be better all right right cardinals exactly just added the Andre Hopkins right you know how good the Seahawks already are right the forty Niners what to the Superbowl that's going to be a loaded up division and the rams have to see reality I'm sure they do saying this is gonna be the year it is for us we'll get back out in twenty twenty one who knows maybe we get lucky but we find some young players we like and we cut our your reconfigure things around a bit but that's gonna be the kind of year for the rams okay just to get a figure out monies for Jaylen Ramsey in office right after treating the bounty they did to bring him on board as part of the let's ramp up let's bring the names let's bring the swagger and we now way they swung in the mist they scored three points in the Superbowl that's it the genius got exposed at least in that day the following year Todd Gurley healthy is he is he or is he not what's the problem there they can't get the offense rolling a spotter and now everybody else in the division including the cardinals bringing in de Andre Hopkins Seattle's always going to be a mess for you D. J. Metcalf you're too can't wait to see that with Russell Wilson so you've got that and then the forty Niners even if people hate Jimmy grapple all they do is when they're built to win so it's certainly going to be a difficult task and all you did was throughout the one guy that galvanized a lot of those names and kept them all on the same page in the same direction by getting rid of Wade Phillips can't wait to see what kind of ramifications that has so you have that and you have no money good luck Twitter and how bout a fresco Mike it's will and all the Jason Spencer with my Carmen live from the geico studios a look because you're talking about Jared Goff now losing Todd Gurley you're talking about him losing Brandin cooks and and you you've seen the stats with Brandin cooks isn't playing that it's much easier when him and and and Cooper Kupp aren't on the field how much the rams offense struggles and so now you're saying all right if you're if you're an opposing defense we have to stop on this offense you don't what you still went in saying we gotta make sure Todd Gurley doesn't kill us that maybe if you get the football and we're lucky about it but we got to make sure Todd Gurley doesn't tell us what about wide receivers well we can't double anybody because you know Cup is decent and you know cooks is decent and Robert woods is decent now you just took a really good wide receiver away it's okay now there's don't have to worry about shutting down we have to worry about shutting down Jared Goff Jared Goff was good when he had a lot of weapons around it is you next level quarterback it's going to take even lesser players and make them good no he's not Tom Brady so now you're walking in going okay it's it's a lot easier now to game plan for the for the Los Angeles rams and not like a bike I said they're going to have a year and and Sean McVay's been a pretty good astute judge of going for in making trades to make the team better in the short run but eventually that short runs gonna end and you know they'll just get back at it next spring after they get you know into the draft they have two more grass and and one more round of more money to be able to go out get the players can't wait to see how it flows especially when we're still talking about opening up a new palace in some way shape or form perhaps later this year that that's still swirling and the logo that you still have to live down to take to the field with the Jason Smith show by Carmen live from the geico studios meanwhile earlier today there was a fake story about another fell team signing a very famous quarterback and then after that story got out what quarterback is going to contact our team just to see if maybe there's an off chance they want to this is bizarre and it's next chases read my comment box was radio let's be honest we don't need to dress not all agree but the NFL draft we'll be going to Cincinnati Bengals select was five.

"Capital, One NA member FDIC, the ninth road win for Jordan Bennington. This postseason is rookie goalie that came in this is when they were dead last in January. Yeah. The season's pretty much turned around. And then this kid got pulled in game three and he's been standing on his head like an exclamation point. He passes, Ron Hextall eight road wins in the nineteen eighty-seven postseason for most road playoff wins by a rookie goalie in a single postseason in NHL history that your old gen stat right here in the rich Eisen show. Chain starts. The poll questions brought to you by man versus food on cooking channel as you got cook up over there. Chris, this is what we're doing. Today off the Carson Wentz is huge four year extension yesterday nearly thirty million one hundred million dollars guaranteed. Let's take a look at who's going to win more games over the next four seasons at the four year extension who's gonna win more games than the next four years Carson Wentz, just got paid Nick. Foles. Soomro MVP just got paid by Jacksonville Jared Goff. He's kind of up next to get paid by congress. Angeles Rams Dak Prescott up next to get paid by the Dallas Cowboys win more games over the next four years, karston foles Goff, deck. That's right. We'll the Cowboys give Dak Prescott in annual eight figure salary that averages out to the point where it's a three in front of it just like what the eagles did for Carson Wentz thirty two million a year annually. We'll the Cowboys do that for Dak who, by the way, has three more postseason starts in one more postseason win than Wentz who's. Last postseason start came at North Dakota state. And then there's Jared Goff. You think hey, he doesn't deserve that sort of money. What's he done? He's played in the Super Bowl so whence who shares the same agent with golf. That's the floor for less need in the Los Angeles Rams to hit. I'm sure in the mind of his agent. Get ready for that. It's common it's common Joe banner who spent many a moon in the front office of the National Football League as a team president for both Browns and eagles also helped shop for the groceries when Andy Reid was there in Philadelphia. He'll be joining us in our number three to make heads or tails of that Tate. Donovan the actor in our number three as well. But when we come back richeisenshow becomes the painted area Huby Brown from Oakland. That's next on the rich Eisen show. I am sports broadcaster. Anne, Marie Anderson. "Saint Louis and Saint Louis I don't know if they have to prove it to themselves. They've got a pretty good idea of how their team has to play in order to be effective. Again. It's not a speed team. It's not a team that makes a long pass down the ice. They're a team that hits and bangs and defense and plays as five players back and forth up and down the ice. And so for the Boston Bruins, they'll be ready for that again. It's a it's a team that you know that all season long. They've had to overcome things as well. And I'm sure they'll be a well prepared for game number five in Boston. And, of course, as you've been mentioning the big question. Surrounding the health status of both bat grizzly now detained charm, will want or both be ready to go for game five or we'll both be out of a lineup Joe. You'll not be in Boston. We'll see you back here and Saint Louis for game six on Sunday. Look for look forward to Kenny. Thank you. All right. So once again, the final score in game four the St Louis blues for the Boston Bruins to series tied to you. Once again, let's rejoin Steve Goldstein steady. Kenny, thanks very much couple more notes on Jordan Binghamton. By the way yesterday, most of the very few players, regular skated for the blues Bennington was on the ice with the scratch players worked with the goalie coach for about twenty minutes, very focused, very dialed in and Bennington. Did not what watch any video of the poor game three when he was pulled he bounces back in this game. He is now thirteen in two after a loss and this is rookie season. Seven of those winds have been in the postseason, and that's the second most all time for a goalie in a playoff year getting a victory following a loss. Eight is the. Record three goalies have done that Nikolai Bouillon Kiprusoff and Ron Hextall big effort by Bennington and the blue tonight. Once again, the final scoring game four Saint Louis four and Boston to, to plenty more to come. We'll hear from tonight star of the game. Ryan O'Reilly of the blues wet two goals, and we'll hear from Boston coach Bruce Cassidy on. That's Daino chara injury. That's coming right up from NBC sports and Westwood One. "All right. Let's hear from you at download Graca. Hashtag game is conduct Tim. Tim. Hale says we should not forget, the to harass is the fourteen Vezina winner. He is capable of playing this. Well, maybe even better are really don't see Saint Louis or San Jose throwing him off his game in. Seven-game series while you might be right. Certainly to grasp his hat is issues in the postseason in the past. But you're right. I mean, this is a quality goaltender that does not get talked about his name does not get thrown around the way Jonathan quicks name gets thrown out or Henrik lundqvist's name gets thrown out, or even Sergei Brodsky during the course of the regular season. And maybe that's because Boston's got a lot of great stars on their team but Rask if he can win that Stanley Cup. He's right up there with the illegal tenders in this league. And like I said, if this team wins the Stanley Cup and right now they're only five wins away from doing it there. First down the Cup since twenty eleven first Cup for two Rask is a starter. He's going to win the cons my trophy. I really think so mariota's. Hey, down the Bruins are in complete control of the series to harass plate out of his mind, again, if they win the Cup should he be considered as a candidate for the Conn Smyth. Also, how many goalies have won the contest might in the past great question off the top of my head. I'm trying to think of goaltenders than one of their been quite a few matter of fact, if you go back to two thousand and three. J s Uganda was a goaltender who won the cons might trophy and did not win the Stanley Cup. Same thing went with Ron Hextall back in one thousand nine hundred seven when Edmonton won the Cup. It was Hextall the one the cons might even though Philadelphia did not win. So it's happened quite a bit even for losing team. So I Rask would have the inside track certainly of San Jose wins the Logan ca tour who's got thirteen goals would have to be in serious consideration as well. But right now when you consider who the favourite is and Rask being part of why Boston is such a huge favourite. I think he would definitely win the cons Smythe trophy. Chris, I Don are we seeing one of the all-time great playoff goalie performances with Rask, one point nine six against average nine thirty nine save percentage and will should be remembered as such as they if they win the Cup again, legacies are really built around Stanley Cups. Right. He's Jonathan quick one of the great goal of role time. Or do we focus on him being great because he's one to Stanley Cup champion. Ships is it should it be about championships? I think Henrik Lundqvist is a great goal has not win one a Cup. I think to grasp is better than Tim Thomas. Tim, Thomas has the ring Rask. Does not have the ring as a starter. But I think Rask would end up being better than Tim Thomas. I if he's able to capture this championship, he's the forgotten player, he really is. You hear so much about Berge. Ron Marsh Aon posture knock this year because of the great year that he had especially on the power play. You see their young defenseman like Carlo and Mackel volt McEvoy, and of course, the great goes day, no chara who still doing it. That may be Rask is mentioned five or six on the depth chart of greatness of the Boston. Bruins that certainly will change if they win the Cup. Seems like everybody wants to talk about Rask Roberts says as of now you'd have to say that Rask is the leading candidate for the consummate when you absolutely I think he's definitely going to win it, if they win Christina brings this up we talked about it earlier Justin Williams has been two of the five teams. That have come back from three down. Well, there's only been two four that have come back to twenty ten flyers. In the two thousand fourteen kings. I don't know if he will be part of a third one but two on the feed is pretty great. And there, I was thinking about this. Just because you could do a documentary on this guy, you really could the fact that he's been on so many great teams..

Eyes are glazing over I'm going deep dive hockey, you've taken an era of hockey for a team that was just hated. And you've made them lovable by giving them a modern day muppet icon in gritty entertainment. I just drunk me. I it doesn't at this point. Yes, there's an expectation that we wanna see the seventy Sixers win. But even if they don't we're going to watch them week in week out because they're pretty darn good. There's an expectation that the eagles are going to win. But if they don't we're gonna watch them weaken and week out because they're pretty darn good. And they've got personalities and guess what? At this point, whether the Phillies win the Easter not. Are we talking about the Braves today? Come on. And we talk is anybody talking about the Braves. Like, the only people talking about Braves fans are are Braves are Braves fans that are out on social media trying to trolled today. And be like, oh, yeah. Well, we're the defending division champs. "I know how difficult is to report and put your neck out there. I don't rip people. But if you take Chuck Fletcher at his word, and there's no reason not to he says, he didn't speak to Joel Quenneville. So either a that story's incorrect, and I don't bless -sarily believe that that is the case or V, and this I do think is a possibility there are other people in the flyers organization who are talking and under Ron Hextall that didn't happen. And now that the regime has changed. There are signs that that is starting to happen again. And I think that that might be the flyers concern is do we have? A loose lips sink ships situation right now. Now that's great for reporters. Sure. As you know, the flyers used to be one of the most fun teams in the league to cover a home Durant. It this would be happened six times per week with them and ill part of me is things. Jeff sports to corporate. You read heaven and hell in the NHL. Okay. So I read that book when I was a teenager, and I wanted to be a reporter more than anything else. And there's a great story in that book where so the report calls them says I need a story and punch him lack says to him you think they're going to beat us with junior V goalie and the reporter says something like are you seriously say that on the record and punch of Mike os? Will you told me allies story? That's gone now. Yes, you know, is a great example of that doesn't happen anymore. I can recall John Davidson on the hot stove would be great. And you know, the entire NHL played along too because they realize value of that segment to the league on hockey night in Canada. And so j d could call up whomever, saying, hey, I need a little juice for hockey nights. It's time to surrender something for the good of the NHL because that segment had such fly paper to it. Yeah. It was good as viewer. No watching that segment, you became more attached to the product because you had this behind the scenes peek, but to your point that is an you know, this way better than I do. It's the other side of the pencil now, it's not the lead. It's the eraser that is vanishing. Yes. No more addition. This is not a to love the chase and doing it. But when I was a teenager. I read those books because you know, Scott Young. Not only was Neil Young's dad, but he was the dean of reporting. I still remember when he quit what a big story that was and I was like, wow. That's what's going to be like, I'm gonna call up people. I'm going to say give me a story. They're gonna give you some crazy headline like that. And part of me with what's going to happen with the flyers is, hey, if the flyers are gonna be the flyers of old that's not a bad thing for creating some juice in the NHL. But I could see how Chuck Fletcher would be infuriated that I just think it really bothered him. If you know Fletcher, he's a really decent person. He really tries to treat people fairly and the word is the he thought axel still was really treated unfairly. Because he believed that there's a certain way that this process has to happen. And it wasn't allowed to happen. You know, this more than me. I don't think general managers enjoy lying to reporters. I don't think they want some do that as liars some do as a wide brush statement. I don't think the enjoy lying, which is why plausible deniability is always an important thing for them. So to that end how often do we find situations where the general manager can say that? Well, we had no conversation. I had no conversations with Joel Quenneville knowing full well that someone else in the organization have that's possible. But then who's your GM? But what's the point?.

Flyers Chuck Fletcher GM is on this five game road trip at the flyers are on Sunday's game three what's happening with Wayne Simmons. What's happening with the goalies situation. What's happening with the flyers period? Wayne Simmons we talked about this on the podcast last week. Ron Hextall didn't want to give them the term. Yep. And whether or not he was being shopped depend on who you talk to. So I think the some teams they were talking to other teams they weren't Chuck Fletcher's on this west coast trip. He's going to say he's been sit down with Simmons escape chance to norm talk to him. I think what that's gonna mean is a follow up conversations agents used as king. I don't have any doubt in the next week or two he'll be calling just to see where are we in? What can we do? So I think no guarantees. But I think they'll be a restart the goalie question to me is interesting. I've had a lot of teams tell me they don't like the market Cam Talbot starting to play better. But you know, hasn't been great to me hours eight gallon starts to play a bit better. But generally hasn't been great Jimmy Howard big price to Troy tongue people. They're talking to first rounder, Craig Anderson. I'd one team telling me they really like them. But there were these burned out from all the rubber. He's seeing all the action is played Charlie Lindgren. I think there's a lot of teams that like him, but Montreal's not trading that guy unless it's for a hall. So you're sitting there and you're going. Okay. For the price. We have to pay who do we really like now Philadelphia. Their whole thing is it's the bridge. Right. The bridge from here to Carter heart. So how do you get there? Well, there's two guys that could make some sense Corey Crawford's one. He's got one more year under contract. Jonathan quick is another. He's got four more years under contract, but he makes seven million this year next and then release starts to drop. I'd be concerned about the term. I understand that in the injuries. I get that quick has been healthy a lot except two years ago in this year. And you know, when you're older, you're always worried about when when there's a guy fall off the cliff, especially when you play that. Jonathan quick person though. I think he's fantastic. I'm a big Jonathan quick fan. But I get it. You know, Chicago you're sitting there you've got nine wins. And I know they don't wanna pull the plug. They really believe in trying to compete as long as they can. I understand Corey Crawford. Also had injury problems. He missed a good chunk of last year with a concussion is got a partial no-trade quick has no protection. I would bet that both of those teams would say these are guys who've been a huge part of what we've done were not putting their anywhere. They don't wanna go. Speaking of Chicago, what's going to happen there? This is very unfamiliar territory for this team ovo. No one's gonna feel sorry for them. No. With three Stanley Cups in their hip pocket. I do feel bad for Jeremy Colloton. And I do think they should stop doing one thing specifically in Chicago. And that's announcing the coach before games. Because the reception isn't good, and it's not fair to call it in. And he can't help the fact that he's not Joel Quenneville. I agree. You know, I never like getting mad fans because their pay our salaries, I get it eight look you, and I don't have this podcast of it isn't for all these fans. I don't like getting mad at them. But I'll say this. If I wasn't Jeremy Colin shoes, I would never let them stop announcing me never. I don't care if you do me, I'm not taking my name down. Because the moment you take your name down. Somebody is going to write about it or say, hey, did you see Jeremy Colloton took his name off the Blackhawks the name. I couldn't boom to me. That's worse to me that's running away. If I was behind the bench..

"One of the more interesting things in that conversation with Keith Jones was discussion of the Philadelphia. Flyers alumni Elliott. You have a couple of thoughts on that. Do. The key thing is the teeth is correct about is that Ron Hextall lost a job because the team wasn't playing well vite their reasons why you become vulnerable. If you get to that point. And the stuffy talked about about the alumni I've heard that was a big deal, and I'm surprised because you'd think of Ron Hextall he embodies what the flyers were. I mean, he was the fighting goalie and goalscoring goal the goal. Well, I remember sometimes the fights more than the goal scoring. But that's who he was like, you think if anybody would fit the flyer mold and be what they are supposed to be it would be Ron Hextall. But you know, there were a few moves over the. And you talked about the John paddock one. There was Neil. Little a longtime flyer scout who was let go in two thousand fifteen. There was Joe Mullen who was let go assistant coach in two thousand seventeen and they also have a scout. There named Al hill who is still employed by the team, but he was demoted from what I understand all of those changes upset the people in the organization who were flyer alumni. I don't know if they were deserved or not. But they just didn't like that they happened or the way they were handled or something about it bothered them. And that to me is the weirdest part of the story because you would think that Ron Hextall would fit in seamlessly with the flyer alumni, but the same complaints is, you know, existed with Bob Gainey in Montreal and Gainey was as Canadians as it gets captain of the team one of their best players. But there were people who complained he didn't treat the alumni. Very well and his last time as Canadians general manager. So it's not why Hextall was fired. And I understand he was very surprised by it. But it sounds like it was very much an issue which team does it the best in your estimate. I've always said the Canadians. Do it really well, but the one thing about the flyers. It's interesting in the whole Lindros thing in Paul home was a guy who probably have the most to do with putting that back together. There were people who ripped Ed Snider for the way he handled it, and that's fine. But the one thing a lot of Ed Snyder's supporters said was there is nobody who treats former flyers better than Ed Snider does Keith Primo once told me story that when he was told by a doctor you can't play anymore..

"And was not taking advice and direction from above. And he may felt that he was the top of the chain. And clearly he was not. And I wonder how much that played into it. That's all well and good. If you have that type of approach as a manager if you win. Yes. But if you're not winning, and what you've been describing to people that who at least are having conversations with because of their position within the organization is not coming to fruition. Then you have to answer the bell. And if you're above rod Hextall in this situation that being Paul home grin or Dave Scott from Comcast you're looking for results now based. Where Ron is was in his tenure with the flyers. And those results were not coming. And I believe I'm a business perspective to style of play was not endearing the flyers to their own fans, and to those that are working hard in the business to try to keep people interested, and I think all of those things played a role in what happened is, you know, Keith the flyers are very proud alumni edge Neider he had a way once a flyer always a flyer. If you try hard for organization, we will always take care of you. Are you surprised to see one proud flyer Paul Hong grin and another one Ron Hextall and the relationship this way? I would say, yes, I'm surprised, but I'm not I'm not a right word for it. When I get more information on it. I'm not overly surprised about it. Because. All home grin and Bob Clark. Who of course, proceeded Homer are two of the proudest flyer. Alums that there is and every day they kind of live and die by the orange and black and they pass it on to anyone who played for them while they're in charge Homer was assistant general manager. And I when I was there Clark was the general manager. And you knew you're a flyer when you arrived, and when you put that uniform on those guys exemplified that did the same. And that's what makes it really surprising, but Homer always had great respect for Bob Clark. And even when Homer took over for Clarke Clark was still the guy and when Ron took over for Homer. It sounds like Homer was not treated with the same regard. And I do believe that that plays into it in some aspect. Dave says he's not looking over. His shoulder. Should he be? That's an interesting one. I saw Gord Murphy. Yes. Let go Chris prior to it. Yeah. And Chris prior is well when I think back to one of my dear friends and another flyer for life in Craig Baru. And when he was told the John paddock would no longer be the assistant coach, and that from Ron Exxon told that Gordon Murphy would be taking over to run the d-. It was the beginning of the end for creek. John paddock was terrific with the defense. And I was a great asset for ruby to have a veteran guy who had pretty much done at all coming in and helping him run really the most important position on a hockey team. And that's the defense. So when I heard that Gordon Murphy was released today. I was not shocked by that for Dave. Textile? I think he's going to at least in the near term have an opportunity and some of that opportunity will be based upon when the new general managers hired, which I believe will be sooner rather than later. And if that general manager has his guy that's available at this time. And that's kind of what it's gonna come down to and Dave axed all if in fact, he stays for the rest of the season is going to have to do a heck of a job. His team is going to have to play more passionately, and they're going to have to get on a run and he's done it before with them. So it's not out of the realm the possibility, and he is a good head coach high believe he'll get at least some chance to do that. And the longer it takes for the new general manager to be named a more opportunity. He will get based upon the press release that I saw today Dave hack stole was involved and the release. Using of Gordon earthy, and that was made clear in the press release. So that's encouraging of I'm fan of data stall. And I am but a lot of the fans aren't so he's got a big job to do..

"Of course, six nothing game. After two periods homegrown goes into the dressing room says this is not acceptable for the flyers. And they came out in the third period. And they fought. Contract now. I should say Kennedy run by Simmons. And now ran racing to the Ray every this challenging the Opie saying. Referee going to try to keep that separate. He will be able to do away. They go. His his point as every. His way. As trading with Alexi. For sure. I just thought about that watching that game. So I was surprised, but I wasn't surprised if you understand what I mean, the unique thing about this. We're used to coaches getting fired midseason then happens all the time side of last year happens every year in hockey happens every season seldom if ever do see general managers dismissed during the season that happens at the end of the year at the wrap up. That's it for the general manager. It's new direction. That's leaves me asking questions about this one. How long was this disgust had been going on for a while? The question becomes why? Then why on that Monday? Did it happen? Because it was at a crisis point, it's obvious that look there was a philosophical divide there. There was Ron Hextall stay the course stay the course stay the course were not moving from. The course we're not giving up our prospects were staying the course, and there was Paul homegrown, and Dave Scott. And for those of you don't know Scott is kind of psalm up front for the first time at the media conference. He's the Comcast spectacled chairman and CEO and their sidewise. I just filled in the best interests of the organization. It was time to look for new voice can with the different mindset can can push push the team to the next level. Just want to add on really just Sam quickly to because we talked in length about this decision. And for me, I sort of build it down to one question. You know, I think that we can do better as a team now not two years or three years from now. But now, and I think that answer was yes. And there is a comparison to Edmonton. Because Edmunds, and we talked about why did they change? Todd McLellan for Ken Hitchcock because they looked at their division and said nobody is running away with this our division is not that good. We can still save our season. And my guess is these Scott Owen wherever else was on their side looked at the metropolitan this year say nobody is running away with this. Pittsburgh's coming back Washington's getting going Columbus wins games. But still you're not terrified by anybody there. And you're saying we can still do this. And that says to me too that they believe that the problem was as much what they thought was Ron Hextall intransigents as opposed Dave Hextall's coaching. So the bizarre thing about that is we normally see the effects on the ice when a coach is dismissed, and that's obvious. The coach has the hands on. With the player. There's that kind of relationships you understand how the product changes on the ice when the coach get switched. The general managers one step removed from that sure he can play around the chess pieces and bring in new players an exit players as well. But generally when there's a general manager dismiss you don't see the effects right away on the ice. Now. There was more of a push from the Philadelphia fires next game. All be it. It wasn't a loss against the Ottawa Senators right away. You know, you had Dale we, you know, fighting Ben Harper, and you saw more of a push from the Philadelphia. Flyers ended up losing on a beautiful met Shane goal late in the third period. But still there was that type of fact are we to read into this, then whomever, the flyers higher as their next general manager that will be someone who aggressively moves bodies out somebody who has to present a plan. Absolutely. You're not hiring more of the scene. Now, it's hard to make a trade in this league..

"Table and say Hello to the gentlem-. Even go to buddy pariah, Whitney I with dog. What's going on? What up? What up does how you guys doing? All right. All right next. We'll go to Paul Bissonnette business deal in the desert. It's up brother looking forward to hearing about these fucking gambling picks all-race stay hot body five night, making me rich or I'll try in boy, Mikey Grenell. Producer down to yuck. What's going on boys to sabres have won ten straight? I have little proposal for you guys later. But I know we're going to get to the sabres later. So I'll wait. Yeah. We'll get to the same huge ten wins in a row. I think they've only cover the puck by twice in those ten games, but still making money elsewhere. But the big news since I last show Ronnie Hextall shit canned as the general manager of the Philadelphia. Flyers people thought it was going to be the coach to go. I was the GM. So would say you biz jut take on the old fire and hit. I mean, I'll say this. I was a little shocked that he went before before the head coach. And the reason I say that is because like I feel like David symbol the pretty good roster. Like you go down there officers. Ru Turia Vora check connect knee Simmons like their top six are very good. They got some decent bottom. Six Jordan wheels guy play with. I think he's a really good third line center. Their back ends good. I mean, I mean the one the one issue in goal. I mean that's been like forever for Philadelphia Flyers. I just I like I said I'm just shocked that it wasn't the coach I and that's nothing against him. But just like I mean, it's his job to to get the boys going. But hey, I think I think the organization wanted to shake things up a little bit maybe to get the boys going. But then fuck man, they followed up with a brutal loss to Ottawa who came in there, and then and shook him up. Yeah. That was I mean, you know, Ron hacksaw sitting there. He's loving that. Blowing a lead against the senators losing four three busy. I think you're right. I mean, I think a lot of people thought hack school would be gone before Ron Hextall was. I mean in a sense he it was up to Hextall. He wanted to get rid of him. He could of but he really stuck to his guns. He yet a lot of trust in in Dave hack, stall. And that turned out to be. I mean, I guess the wrong decision. I mean, he's probably looking at right now, if I'd gotten rid of him, I would at least still have my job in other years, she if we end up getting into the playoffs, but you you said it before and we've said it on this on this podcast. It's it's goaltending. Ironically, Ron Hextall one of the great fires goalies shadow to winning the const my for playoff MVP when he didn't win the Stanley Cup. A goalie ended up not having a goal is what ended up really kind of killing him. And they haven't had one in thirty five years. It seems like and because of that it's just a team that never has consistency. You can't win in the NHL without a goal. You can't win and major league baseball pitching. And the NFL though to quarterback. It's it's the one key position that if you don't have it you may win some games on offense. You may get into the playoffs. But you're never going to win the Cup. You're never going to get it done. You know win that ultimate goal..

"The darling deal last year just didn't seem to work out. You know, Cam Ward's now in Chicago, so looks like the hurricanes might have found their goaltender and Curtis. Mcelhinney Ottawa three unanswered goals to be Philadelphia. Four to three the final there and Phillies first game without Ron Hextall as the general manager and kind of went the same way as before. Four can't hold onto a league. Can't get quality goaltending. And that's been a major problem. Philadelphia going back, you know, a long way not just recently. But their goaltending has been obviously, a major major problem for them stole ours is the fifth goaltender to make a start. Philadelphia this year, and he faced only twenty two shots and made eighteen saves to get tagged with the loss the jersey born kid getting the loss against an Ottawa team that I mentioned to you yesterday is actually a team that's got some talent. And they will play the back end of the home at home against the Rangers. Coming up tomorrow for seven thirty start in Ottawa. How about the ducks beating the lightning in Tampa of the final score? There was three to one as demeaning ends up getting beaten, but the story and this one is Anaheim's able to come back getting two goals in the third period. Nick Ritchie gets his second. Remember, they had the play a long time this season without Ritchie and in rowdy gets his second. Both goals coming in rapid succession, four fifty one and five thirty nine. So I don't think too many people thought the ducks would walk in Tampa and beat the lightning. But. That's exactly what happened especially with the Tampa blowing lead in the third period. Nice statement for the avalanche beating the Nashville predators. Three to just proven to them that they can hang avalanche and the eleven game losing streak versus the predators. They did win a couple of games in the playoffs. Let's not forget that. But and of course, the star goals number sixteen and seventeen on the year. But it would be Jost getting the game winner five seven into overtime as national just for some reason just does not seem to be the same team at home. Nice win for the coyotes. Is they go to Minnesota and beat the while the final score. There was four to three. It would be Archibald getting the game winning goal at the midway point of period. Number two. Michael Grabner, also got his sixth of the season Archibald scored earlier in the third as well. So three unanswered goals for the coyotes and the third period to by Archibald gets a nice road win for the coyotes decline with the game of five hundred what's going on with the. Golden knights. They score six against San Jose. Now, they score eight against Chicago an eight three victory over the Chicago Blackhawks and Blackhawks just in free fall right now. I know that they're not a playoff team, and they just made a trade, and they just fired their coach, but you shouldn't allow eight goals against anybody. Especially the Golden Knights who've really struggled outside of the game against San Jose over the weekend to score goals. But this thing was over quickly. Dave Daniel car gets its first. Tuck gets his eighth Eakin get's his ninth. Three nothing in the first period. Chicago does score two of the three goals in the second. But wedged in between was Carlson. Gold is seventh. And then then it would just lights out from their Reeves. Theodore gets a couple of goals. Eeking gets a second. He's gal got ten so as Vegas trying to find themselves here a little bit late in the season. Now climb above five hundred thirteen twelve and one as the offense is starting to go. I know we've talked so much about offense in. This league. But what a fun watch between the stars and the Oilers last night and the goal the game winning goal. Didn't come until we got to overtime not a ton of shots thirty one to twenty eight favor of Evan timid. I thought it was a fun game. Lot of town to players going in this game..

"And you know, the other thing too is that in Philadelphia now, you know, done it when we were growing up tonight or on the flyers. And like when the old man was happy things were good. And when the old ban wasn't happy things got changed, and that's the way work, and and now with Mr. Snider passed away a couple of years ago, and it's kind of a corporate group. You know, the Comcast group that owns the flyers. I'm not exactly sure we'd making the decision, you know there. It's a it's more of a corporate structure. I know Paul homeland is he's the guy that eventually his name gets on the, you know, the release, but you know, how much input comes from. The corporate management structure above him. You know, and how much they have to say in this. So the bottom line is for the flyers. They've got to play better. They've got to figure out their goaltending situation. They've got a combination of some some veteran players that have been playing very very well. And some young players, you know, that they feel can be really good players. So the window for that all gnashing, you know closure. Ruse best years. Jacob four checks best years, even James van ravens cycle. They recently signed as a free agent and was injured for a good part of the season. I mean will they jive with when you know, I've improved RAF is at his best. Then maybe Carter heart becomes the goalie down the road. I don't know still. I mean, that's the window. Can you get all those things at the same window? I'm not sure, but they and the one other thing too is they don't really and it's not a fighting league anymore. We know that there's there's not those types of players, but in Philadelphia, I think they do like to have their team nasty and hard to play against and the flyers have had to fight. At the team this year to fighting majors and they've only come in the last couple of games. And again, not that you're gonna turn your team into the seventy five broad street bullies. But you know, there might be a sense in Philly. Like, hey, we have you know, that's where we are. We have to be a little bit harder to play against and we aren't right now. So there's a lot of things I think the problem what do it? I'll be very curious to see what happens. I didn't think they've axles days along there without Ron Hextall. And there is there is a place in Philly that could go out and could afford to make a deal with Joel when Ville the bringing him good point as well. That's a very good point on. They have the money to do it. Now, it's interesting because you're going to let go of both of them today if you wanted to so we'll see if it's just a reprieve until they can get something worked out with Joel or whether he thinks or the organization believes that hack stall will will be given a couple of weeks to maybe prove that he deserves to stay. But if they had a problem with say Hextall, not firing hack stall that I would think both of. I'm would have gone today. So we'll see if he could take the opportunity. Yeah. It's a little strange. I agree with you. I think it's odd because I think there has been some push especially because we've seen in the last several weeks as I mentioned, the Oilers made to change the things may change the hawks may changed teams. But making changes the blues meta change. It seems like that's the move that comes first. And if nothing else comes in tandem, but in this case suppliers have made this decision. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out over the next several them that should be interesting. All right from the negative to the positive Buffalo Sabres on an amazing run nine game winning streak. But if you dig a little deeper EJ eight of the nine games decided by one goal five of the nine games in shootout or overtime. So is this team that's coming together? And is a legitimate force in the National Hockey League. Or is this a team that you know has been quite fortunate during this nine game run..
