"Moh moves 1000 FM 97 7 History's being made in the nation's capital this week is the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump is underway. Now some feature of managers in the former president's legal team gave their arguments for and against the constitutionality of the trial. Come on, political analyst Ron Dots are with strategies. 3 60 has some takeaways. From what we've heard so far, Number one. I think that across the board, the president's legal team seemed ill prepared, and they're being panned. Again, universally not only by Democrats, but even Republican senators that actually end up siding with them have pander performance pretty hard that they weren't on message. Rio prepared And as a consequence, they apparently the former president was going to happen eclectic today during their performance as well. So having said all that it really didn't change much in the voting. So, the Democrats added One more vote to the 55 told they had previously so with the 56 44 margin. They're going to go forward, but I think again the diet is cast here. And probably some level doesn't really matter about any performance. I also was struck. I thought that 13 minute video that Congressman Raskin shared today was was also Pretty compelling video. Visuals always work, and that would be a take away. So they were talking across the Senate and to the American public. In my opinion, the Democrats not only made their arguments in terms of The constitutional question, But they started setting up their layout. The narrative and I think we'll see. Theoretically we'll probably see a little bit of performance out of the president's legal team. But As it stands right now, the problem he's got, is he? The lawyers that he had lined up chose not to represent him so again at the end of day when he's 16 hours of done, that's probably going to be the end of it, And it will be a sizable margin that will not vote for impeachment long before covert 19 America's kids have been giving up playing organized sports, Como's Bill Swartz says. "As the chaos unfolded, some trump supporters blaming the scene on antifa activist acclaim for which there is yet no evidence and the Trump administration admitting their surprise. The capital doors were breached. All of us in law enforcement in the Washington Capitol area have been planning for this for a couple of days. But critics calling for answers as to how police were so unprepared. Especially since there was growing intelligence documenting social media post, pointing to potential acts of violence for the rally, one online extremist watchdog group, including in a December 29th report that one right wing activist wrote quote. They want any information, including photos and videos, some of the mob may have slipped away. I'm a political analyst, Ron Dots our shared some thoughts with us about the statements from the president and the president elect. After that, violence number one. I thought that President Trump's was very late, Theo the assault on our house. The Congress had already occurred and had been going on for some time before he actually Said anything and even when he did ask for them to depart, it was cloaked in. We still been robbed, and you still incinerate language that probably would have not necessarily motivated that group to leave. Um And President elect Joe Biden was delivering a message that he's been delivering since he was a cannon, which is we need to find ways and find common ground to work together. And we need to stop this kind of conduct in our country today, and what has happened to us today was appalling, and we're better than that. So one. The message of hope and optimism. The Electoral College meets Monday to formally elect Biden as the next president. Trump team is now pressing state lawmakers to replace Biden electors and is urging members of Congress to not certify the election results in January. The idea has no merit. Fruits of that effort and at least to the thought if they carry on restrictions on indoor dining, health clubs and bowling alleys don't start to drive numbers down. Rodgers has ascended to the ranking position on the House Energy Committee may not sound like much, but it's a critical position, especially for those here in the Northwest. Almost Jeff Pooja will talk about it with political analyst Ron Dots. Our what does this mean for her in Washington state? Well, it's a really nice honor for her, frankly, because you know, we have been an inner Christine, our whole region of Bonneville Power system, right? And and having somebody in that position on that committee to help sort of protect our power interests is critical and is great for her to have that position. It may even be better for the states here in the northwest of Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Western Montana. What it pretends for futures. And in addition to that, you know, we're also very hydro dependent. With our dams and everything and having her there to make sure that hydro interests are protected here in the Northwest is no small deal as well. But how much can she really do being in the minority? Well, he's the ranking member, you know, and the minority isn't much of a minority right now in this house to represent tentative. I know what the final number is going to be. But the Democrats don't have much of a working margin. Right, And so that will increase her strength and power. If you will, as ranking member on that very, very crucial committee to the Northwest. Well, she has leadership experience before she was the chair of the House Republican Conference for several years, she's served on various important committee. So this isn't really anything new to her. Is it as a committee assignments? I think it is in terms of her ranking positions on the committee. But yes, he's always been in the queue from Never get leadership positions within the Republican Kaka. And this is just another a bigger milestone. If you will for her in her congrats, professional career, this is this is a is a huge deal. And most people won't necessarily completely understand what it portends. But for us here in the Northwest, energy dependent, and we've have low, relatively low cost our fair to the rest of the country. That really does help fuel our economy and so having there in that position kind of protecting those interests is very critical for all of us. I think I think it's really good deal for everybody. "Moh news 1000 FM 97 7 Jeff Pooja a big shift from President Trump as he ordered the General Services Administration. The G S a Free of transition funds for the Biden campaign. That means that the official transition for up power is now underway. Joining me now is Ron Dots, our Eric political strategist and political analyst for Cuomo News and I guess. First off. What does this mean to the average person that the G s a is now allowed to work with the Biden campaign? Well, for the average person, that means that we can begin a transition team begins to plus weeks ago. And that the country and the democracy will be better served as a consequence of this transition of power, everything from national defense to covert to all the things that we're going to be dealing with him his country the next Four years. We have a transition that now in place. Overdue. I might add, but at least it's going to be in place and we could get proceeding in the resource. Is there gonna be there in all of us? All of US Democrats Republicans independents alike. Will be better served as a consequence of this one. The reason that this is happening now is because there was mounting pressure from Republicans and business and community leaders across the United States to make this happen. So now we know that the G s a freeze up funding for the Biden transition team. What does that funding do? What does the transition team spend it on Primary it's on. It's on people and research and resource. So that the people that are being hired can be paid on. But other people will be allowed to Presumably start meeting with other agency head Aziz. Well, not just the money, which is a piece of it, but equally is important, in my opinion is to begin the allowance of the conversation so that when the baton gets passed It doesn't get crumbled. What kind of setback? Was it for the transition team to have the president? Wait now that more than two weeks after the election? Yeah, it really jeopardize the number of things again. National security you saw over the weekend, Maybe 165 or so. Republican National defense experts called on the president to begin the transition because the risk to this country and not having appropriate information at the appropriate time. Make sure that everybody's up to speed. I think that had some impact. And so the national defense question that we all should be concerned about is now going to go forward and that the smoother transition of power, which is one of things has been in my opinion. Homework are barred. Democracy is now back in place. But President Trump hasn't conceded the election so far. But is this in itself sort of a tacit concession that he lost? Well, certainly it is, but I would submit to you that on January 20th When their president will be sworn in, he will still not admit that he has lost So waiting for President Trump to declare that he is that he has conceded to President elect Biden would eyes not gonna happen with my pig and so But Certainly the acknowledgment that there is going to be a new president on January 20th. And it's not gonna be Donald Trump. But a concession for all intensive purposes is completely unnecessary because once the electors air certified, the vote certified and the president is sworn in, it doesn't matter what the previous president believes that correct it over and it has been over for some time. And I think you know there was a number of effort for it becomes really handle. I might you know when Chris Christie, who coaches you during the debates, insist on national television over the weekend that your legal team is a national disgrace? That's kind of an embarrassment for anybody City in the White House. Anyone the main funders of the Republican Party say Well, we're not going to write checks in Georgia for the Senate campaign that's going to get a lot of people's attention, right? So all that it's swirling in what what Donald Trump does this weather is conceited or not, computer acknowledge the presidency at this point is totally and absolutely as you say, irrelevant. "The maple tree outside our window right now, in general, it's a dry day, all around western Washington, 42 at Kamo News. President Donald Trump has still not conceded the election to Joe Biden. Here's Como's Cara costume. Biden won the presidency Saturday after the battleground state of Pennsylvania pushed the Democrats over the 270 electoral votes needed to capture the White House. Jared Kushner, the president's son in law and senior advisor. Has reportedly approach Trump to concede. And so his first lady Melanie, whether he concedes or not, is it has no sort of legal bearing on the process. The Trump campaign is planning a messaging blitz that the president's second term is being stolen by corrupt vote counts. I have not seen or heard anywhere across the breath of the United States any irregularities they would rise to the level. That would change the outcome of the election. President elect Joe Biden is going to start pushing universal masking to stop the spread of Corona virus, a senior adviser, telling NBC News that Biden is going to start calling governors across the country, insisting they make wearing masks mandatory. If governors don't step up, Biden would reportedly go to the mayor's and other local leaders. Push them to mandate mask wearing in their jurisdictions about 20 states already have masked mandates. Now that Joe Biden has been declared the winner in the presidential race, how will the transition of power play out? We put that question to coma political analyst Ron Dots. Our President, Trump is going ahead with lawsuits. That's our described the process moving forward as he sees it. Eventually, all these elections numbers will be certified and turned into canvassing boards and there will be electorate will be chosen. And then then Vice President Biden will become the president. So a some point no later than January, 20th will be exchange of power in the United States. So there will be some little skirmishes with the president and his legal case. "Chairman of the House Judiciary committee Jerrold Nadler had a press conference today in New York. So the Miller report reveals many misdeeds by President Trump. A reporter asked him though, if the congressman thought moving to impeach the president was likely it's too early to talk about that. Because we will have to go follow the evidence where it leads, and I don't know exactly where we'll eat if I did. No, I wouldn't need all this information. Joining us now on the KOMO news line is the democratic strategists from around here. Ron dots. Sour. Hey, Ron it. Lisa here. I'm just wondering, you know, when you wouldn't you see what Muller wrote? And he basically he it's almost as if he was saying here's the smoke. But I'm not gonna put it out. Not my job. You guys are the ones with the hose to deal with that too congress. It's almost a challenge. I am my. Sort of analysis that leases that it's it's like left a lot of bread for for congress to follow. And they'll be the question of whether they're going to pick up the grad comes along the way and how aggressively they're going to be. But pretty clearly I think that was he saw he was writing a report more for in my opinion. Then he was for the AG. And because he wasn't able to put a lot of equal tie. All the loose ends to get said. Okay. I'm gonna put to congress. Go ahead. And well, and I was listening to John dean earlier former White House counsel, you know, who was involved in Watergate. And he was saying basically when he looks back at the report on Iran contra and the report on Watergate, he felt like this report was more damning than those reports yet at the same time, we have the president who came out and said, hey, this was a hoax. I I'm vindicated, basically. Yeah. I I think it's pretty clear that you know, said. Exonerated, there's nothing here there. And the report itself does not say that I think one of the things that that report says pretty clearly. And I think one of the biggest takeaway for me. Anyway, is that there's no question. No more about whether or not there was Russian influence an intervention in our presidential election that is absolutely undisputed. Now, even with the presence to keep doing denial and the acceptance of Putin's they were directly involved, and then they said down and target for the key dates that he needed to win and showed him the research that they needed to do to be successful most four states boy that is just about as clear interventions you'll ever see. That is really a nobody's talking about that today. Right. One quick wrap up question for you, Ron, and that is if Muller really did one congress to follow those breadcrumbs as we described why so difficult for them to get a full of unredacted copy. Well, that that decision was not made by Miller that was made by the Torney general bar. And so that's why he's you know adventure. I do believe that congress is going to see the complete unredacted report wreck. I don't think there's any doubt in my mind and not as going to be sooner than most people think. So they'll see it. There's going to be no no heightened the ball on this. And then congress is going to have to decide whether they want to move towards a more aggressive approach I e impeachment or they want allow the political environment to play itself out. That's gonna be there, really conundrum. I think the Democrats vote democratic strategist Ron dots. Our always appreciate hearing tight. Thank you. Komo afternoon.
