Particular security. Okay how do we apply that same kind of intelligence to our products and how we get our products to be much better I think those are some great areas for example after the vehicle is sold that we can do that. And then finally there's just a plain old making your product better and This past month Autodesk and GM made a major announcement announcement in AI on Generative Design Technology Basically letting go and giving its boundary conditions and. It's variables what you wanted to be able to look at. And it will go and create scenarios and create designs to be able to do that. And they're seeing a lot of positive results for Matt so a I can fit And be very applicable of from any of these areas that we've talked about here with regard to the second question about word is a word is heiress fit into this We have a product Internet manifestation platform that. We like to be able to go through and put all of our data on it and be able to go through stretch the data model so that it meets the customer expectations and means does customer usage profiles that they're trying to set up and then we can actually do all of it in a single space. We can use one change and configuration management process. We can connect one set of digital threads we can create digital twins from these areas That where we can go and scrape those digital threads to be able to go and get access to the day to end the date for that particular area. "Relationships I want to talk for a minute just about your background because I think it's important people understand you are not a solar contractor solar is a part of what you do in your projects but you are not one of these solar contractors it is going to be knocking on people's doors or call them up on the phone promising save the money I got involved in a lot of industries in my life developing building whatever and I I type and what people ask me who my competition is or whatever I don't have any I don't look at them I don't focus them but I do know the industry in a Newton now what I need to do to do the past but having my background of electrical design and commercial building design is huge in this industry I mean some of the biggest companies out there look at their background they have nothing to do with anything that we're talking about zero you know and also look at those companies how they back up their systems or how they warranty their systems or how they maintain on every system that we do as twenty years of maintenance by the way we're sitting here with Jim here from Ferguson so I got Ferguson here for a reason I talk about taking the rooftops of buildings huge buildings and put electric ones on there we do all the work I'm he's here for a reason because I know if something goes wrong with that rooftop unit he's gonna be their orders manufacturers going to be there Jim also has some of the best experts that I know of in the state of New Jersey if there's a problem they're gonna come out and help you troubleshoot it with the manufacturer they stand behind it I have people call me even HVAC contractors were here two weeks three weeks behind schedule we try to do it the next day and they work with us that way which is huge for what we do we don't want to keep anyone down for it for any anything whether it's heating electric or whatever you know and Jim could just touch base a little bit about their their commercial end of the day of heating and other things we do that you must talk about your background because you're not some you know corporate business hopper the just jumped into district vice president no sorry many years ago I was a killer the value of customer service up and serve the record for four years back in the eighties and I joined this company thinking this is a for your point time where I'm gonna get my degree and move on and I love the relationships that I've formed with guys like Ron and and to this day many of those relationships are still rock solid he talks about you know the value of the partnership yeah and where I see the partnership is is that the communication element of making sure that I know what he needs he knows what I need but that's how we treat everyone of our customers right you know while they're certainly gonna be some opportunities for us to get better you know when the when there's an opportunity for us to do something for a cause for that kind of makes this job flow smoother we were talking about a situation where he did a commercial rooftop that was on a personal lecture we had to scramble to kind of find it because you needed in a rush we did that that's because great people Ferguson enterprises were you know focus on making sure that his needs were met on a timely basis but this really is a relationship business Eric and in no matter how far we get down the technology path it's still about people talking to people making sure that we feel good about each other we don't do a lot on the marketing side our marketing is from people like Ron customers who does business with well but I think that also is the difference to the you're not gonna find at at a big box store or discount retailers that you've got the people on staff that can work with engineers and designers and architects because they have the knowledge of the product line so you know you try to get that at a big box is a lot of focus on making sure folks are trained extraordinarily well they're going to seminars are working with the vendors it's constant an evolution of training we do training every single week for entire inside sales staff so we take it very seriously so somebody calls Ferguson says I'm doing this project and I need to do this with H. back or I need to do this with lighting running to the there's somebody you've got there that speak in that language there's a technical expert in every field that will help the customer yeah so people always we've done prior shows in her you hear me talk about my check check double check so my architects engineer might P. E. my architect that worked directly for us we'll look at this project's size it up we go to Ferguson Ferguson sizes and up and then Ferguson goes to the manufacturer so we have a check check double triple check on every job that we do we want to be the form the right way by the way any any portion of our project whether it's electric plumbing heating lighting your word welcome to talk to us we'll tell you when we have this a seminar or an expert that's going to be there with us right when I do commercial sales calls for our first visit like if I know they need a roof I bring G. E. Palmeiras roughly one of things that I kind of laugh about people always left out they'll say well your roofing contractor electrical contractor you're you're ninety years old how long you gonna be a business or wanting to do so everything that I do and will most things in this industry you have to be either go through a seminar or get a training through a through a manufacturer to use their products that's the only way you're gonna get a solid warranty guarantee and also between those products of people don't realize this I am multi billion dollar companies if I'm not there they pick it up even a simple thing is the roof we have an engineer that checks it when we're done they send all the specifications back to the roofing manufacturer because he's going to oversee the warranties so people always laugh about warranties and contractors and people won't come back it's another reason after twenty some odd years of me using Ferguson throughout the industry something I kind of laugh and like get them Getty about every time I do a salmon arm we're going to do more throughout the states I was just I believe and and and other state and Ferguson show room I'm just like my kids looked at me to roll them out like a little kid but to see the high quality of the people that can help you as soon as you walk in the door I mean it's it's beyond amazing yeah it really is a valuable commodity that you're not going to get.

Npr PRESENTS DOT Org. Hey everyone so today. We've got another one of my conversations from the how I built this summit. That happened last October in San Francisco. Jedi Britain Bauer has spent the past eight years perfecting her signature line of ice cream flavors which include fluffer nutter pie goat cheese and Cherry and my personal favorites bramble very crisp and biscuits and peaches and these are just a few of the unusual flavors. You'll find Jenny. Splendid ice creams all began at a Columbus Ohio. Farmers Market Back in two thousand two today. Jenny's is a staple at whole foods and there are nearly forty scoop shops across the United States in my life conversation onstage. I asked Jenny about staying true to herself. And how her ice cream can be that amazingly good without any egg yolks. I WanNa talk to you about a word. That comes up a lot and I have really mixed feelings about this word and I and I hope some of you do too which is authenticity. We hear this word a lot. Be Authentic Bureau authentic self your true self and one of the really cool things about your story that are members that in the early days when you had your first version of. What would become Jenny? Splendid later on you used to wear like torn jeans and you had green and purple hair and at a certain point you realize that actually wasn't working that something about your look and the aesthetic of what you were selling wasn't right and you decided to change. You took the diet of your hair. You started wearing all white. You sort of looked like a like a pharmacist. And your ice cream shop here. It became kind of reflected that clean aesthetic. And I'm wondering I mean you know you could say well Jenny. You know you weren't being your authentic self at that time. But of course I absolutely was it absolutely was I realized that I was communicating through what I was wearing and it was it was. It was goof you restore outfits. I mean. They're really cute. I had pink hair for a long time but I wasn't conveying. That sort of who I think I felt like on the inside honestly and and what. I thought that I wanted from my ice cream maker. You know the other thing was that it scream my first day scream shop. I thought that I could be this ice cream artiste and like everybody would be so excited about whatever. I was doing today that they would. Just you know. Come down and figure and stand in line and you know what's the. Great Jenny have today and I was really thinking more like an artist or a wannabe artist. So I quit art school to make ice cream then and when I got to Jenny's in two thousand into when I open Jenny's I I took all emphasis off of me on purpose. I had learned the lesson that no one comes to a business for whatever I'm making today. I don't go to businesses for that. I go to a business for what I had the last time I was there. Not for some new thing. I might change my mind when I get there. And so once I learned that I knew that I had to create this signature line that everybody knew about. And that was like credible in the middle of the night and you had to have it the next day and then I could play around with other stuff and then those could move onto the signature list if they were good enough if people loved them enough and so that was part of that. Take the emphasis off me. Ron Customers still add my passion to this but not make it about me anymore. Make it about other people and I knew what people love because they knew what they loved it. Scream when Miami. I shop but I didn't always have that so that constant disappointment is not a very good way to run a business. Do you do sort of agree with me? This idea of authenticity is being complicated. Because you know we get is be your yourself your authentic self and not. All of us know how to do that or what that actually means. Yeah it is. It's a complex thing right now especially when you talk about companies and brands building authenticity and starting with into though. Because what does that actually mean? That's something that you can't make you have to do. And it takes a long time and I think that so many times for me anyway often to city. It's a trust for yourself. And it's not trusting that you'll never make mistakes as trusting that you will but you'll get yourself out of trouble and I think the authenticity almost from that place of trust for yourself. You know because the people in the company that we find the most authentic are the ones that are making mistakes sometimes or that are trying things that are pushing themselves so I want to own a sort of a shift gears. A little bit and ask you about perfectionism because for those who know about your company in about you. You're a perfectionist. I mean you obsess over ice cream. In a way that few people obsess over any products right. I mean we start with what the cows eat and that every year. Our ice cream recipes change. I mean right. Now we're talking about extended hold times for pasteurization and how that will impact stability. We don't use stabilizes modifiers corn Syrup high-fructose Corn Zip and a whole bunch of other ingredients. That are very typical and ice cream or even a yolks. But we figured out that that that there's various ways to make milk proteins. Act that way and it's really fun and it's extremely delicious but it's all still an experiment and it's a big challenge. I think it's one of the reasons that twenty four years in. I'm still extremely excited about what we can do this year. And what we're going to try this year is going to impact what we're GONNA DO. Next year started to interrupt. I can get like really excited about this. I know me too cheap because I've noticed that there are no egg yolks. Oh the sort of I guess unless you want it to be unless you want there to be lake an Eggnog or something like that but I mean even like the peaches you buy for the Peach Cobbler or the cherries you use for the goat cheese you source it in an obsessive way. The cows are raised on well. And we're patient so for me. I always serve the people and so it starts building a relationship with a with a grower or producer and then we can work out quality together because we know that that's the way I mean. That's how you get the best stuff so sometimes it can take years to figure out how you know which. Which kind of strawberries grow in Ohio? And how can we extend that season by a few weeks so we have time to process them all as they come in? There's all sorts of cool stuff that you can do. But you really have to have a good relationship with your farmers and growers and your producers like Whiskey. You know there's too much alcohol and the whiskey. We couldn't add enough to ice cream. You know and still abide by the law. So we work with our whiskey distiller to create a lower alcohol whisky so we can add a Lotta whiskey to those kinds of things. All are based on relationships. I mean but with that level of obsessive nece right. You're paying a premium for really high quality products. Also means that your ice cream's more expensive pine of Jennings's expensive compared to pine another brand right. It's a very dense. There's a lot of ice cream. It's packed.

"I'm still a fiscal conservative and I don't think that live at I have just a more to me I see something like six trillion the we've spent Afghanistan and Iraq and folks need the place is right six three and we could replace all the infrastructure in America think how many Americans it would put put to work and really good paying jobs and how much you would have been proved everybody's lives plus you could come up a lot of money for social security here's another one for him at the end of this year we will have spent in excess of new emergency funds to American farmers because of all of our trade wars three times as much money as it took to save all of Detroit and the American auto parts industry back in two thousand nine when all that was done we're down about ten billion dollars when we're done this year with all the extra farm payments because of the trade wars we're gonna be at somewhere around twenty eight billion dollars again I had no problem saving Detroit and the auto parts industry in America a lot of you did I didn't I knew what would happen if we didn't say then we'd be in another Great Depression yeah we had talked about twenty eight billion dollars going to farmers because of trade wars and nobody says a word how is that it's only when I bring up that we send six trillion now in Afghanistan and Iraq and we could re built all the infrastructure in America and only then do I say aren't you glad we spent over there so you're paying for toll road spend ten Bucks to go six miles makes no sense to me it's not fiscally smart if you're trying to use your money in a very smart way with that let's go to Larry in grapevine Hey Hey Larry where are you doing I don't know I think it's the first week of a brand new year and already I'm really great she it'll get better you know everybody says that but actually hope springs eternal on new year's eve Dennett yes it does here is one more year for us to get it right we're re barn into the new year and it's him in the very back and father yeah you've got to work at all no no no come on let me tell you some you know I grew up in day in H. one a it was a station wagon and if it had a third row seat it was at the very back of the station wagon facing that amounts of that there you go look for so I have done that every time that semi started slide not torture you're teaching the grand kids a lesson yeah I'd sit there and I put my hand up and down trying to get the hello the boring frightening sunny are you one of you gotta Q. seven well I live in grapevine and I was looking for Q. seven and even though there are some other dealers in the area I yeah I went to school a good mechanic even though it was a little bit longer drive actually manage and I met with Assad alone when he set me up with the car salesman this is not a great guy is fantastic it was really great we sat and chatted for quite awhile okay so when you went up to that to the to the civil families how do you store in McKinney and you walked into it did you get what I was saying about they've got to have the biggest Windex bill in America it was so good update you could see anything it was beautiful fast you can not imagine that much tempered glass ever you know I course maybe in may I wanted like the wet to my fingers and walk down the hallway just kind of street in the glass it would happen yeah bring your kids they're living but fingerprints all over there but that's you see the when the singer print on the glass anywhere yeah that was beautiful and they were very nice that's why I was good too I Asadullah what is your Windex bill every month you've got a self Tanner Audi's to cover the Windex for this place yes it was great I had a great time so what color did you I got a white one and I get the middle package the premium package right and brought car home if I love the driver that thing okay al beach before in BMW's yeah and about two days later without the driveway and I had a flat tire the package that I bought this car well you know it could come from anywhere could enablement so anyway yeah I was a little upset still regard it here and it's like man I just bought this car and I've got a flat entrances car has a three row seats has doesn't have a spare in which a package this car doesn't have run flat tires yeah you should be I think a lot of people were happy without run flat tires yeah me too I well anyway I found this out lying I called the sales woman said look you know I'm a little upset here and I got a brand new car out here with flat tire on it yeah and don't worry about it don't worry about it will take care of it and the next morning a they showed up with a tow truck and another elegy for me to drive to get back up to McKinney yeah for brand new run flat tires on the car why should it cleaned it and brought it back to me by three o'clock and it was no charge you know I thought about that because I work in customer support to and they did not have to do that because I corps did not come with those and I was totally impressed with the way they treated me I I just thought I would share that let me tell you because even in for workers for store is kind words started off car school got the sob franchise for Dallas fort worth and Seoul lex's in fort worth was kind of like their one store that was way from everything this was before they moved into Houston everything else so the sob game on and selecting support came on and they would have customers in Amarillo Larry that there wasn't a Lexus store there so they bought at the fort were store right and something would have to be done on their Lexus and they went to Amarillo to get it to fix the customer's car yeah you're right down the street in grapevine I know they used to make for three hundred and fifty mile runs to do this for their customers out what's that West Texas this is the way they are yeah I was totally impressed that you know now I would recommend to anyone there's a story that I have heard through the grapevine that I'm pretty sure it's true the during the Great Depression before Carl soules part of the family came to Dallas because his cousin they kind of stayed out Midland Odessa but during the Great Depression when it wasn't necessarily easy to make a living or stay in the car business they decided that if they would sell equipment all the people who were the old business and then service them out in the oil field where they need to be working that it would probably be a good business model and even today you still find soules saying it was actually service we get this in business all these years yeah and they still believe that we're just not working at all fields anymore well some Ron's customers out Midland Odessa are but we're not here so that's great that's also doll is if you're me the next time if it if it were me the next time I would be out there kind of taken little gift for taking good care of you but I am a bottle Windex input bow on it yeah I'll do that anyway I can shop around online and found some a lot cheaper I don't think a lot totally well maybe something cheaper it was totally work to solve I had to take to do it again tomorrow you know there is like that guy that wrote me about his jeep compass tires burned through and twenty thousand miles yeah that's what brought me to call you point was he taking it in for service and all this and the dealership and say there's something wrong with your car you're going to have your tread ten thousand miles these are sixty thousand mile tires then he goes well I I got a good deal really because you're talking about spending twelve hundred dollars first set of tires and telling me what a great deal it is you do business there but that's just me what do I know without "Of the sun for a homeowner how do you like zero electric bill I'd like to make real money all of it is possible don't fall for the scam was being perpetrated by the so called solar companies and Ron you know it's almost like they come out like a locust they're not cannot everybody's door it seems every night saying Hey we can save you money it's a shame it really isn't there I mean they're just bombarding the industry and I just think it's terrible what they did a homeowners yeah and and really if homeowners understood if people really understood the power of the sun they would understand that that that is not the way that solar works let's talk to Stephen Clark Steven I know you were wrong one of Ron's customers. where is your home. then Eatontown New Jersey all right so you're in Eatontown and how did you hear about advance older and energy solutions. I looked him up on the internet and then sentiment email and Ron came over to the house were you surprised that the founder and president of this company showed up to meet with you personally. absolutely certainly what is a great guy yeah intended you do research on residential solar before you either called Rana before you decided to go with him. I have the other companies come unfortunately we were all pushing the same thing leasing dear. Enron was different from from the from the first time you shook his hand was. absolutely gave me information on everything but and showed me the pros and cons it was really easy simple yeah and and they and you got a copy of Ron's big book of Ron everything spelled out in that book. everything wouldn't it with no problem and it's true the truth of the word when he says I have to admit yeah so that so did he meet every one of the promises that that he spelled out in writing for you absolutely yeah right they monitor my system and told me my internet was having a problem a few months ago. you know I I and that's funny one to run to the system for me on my home one of my panels was off I wouldn't have known that one of my panels was off they each came home one day there on my roof they swap that they said Hey you had a bad panel how would I have known that. exactly yeah it's I mean it's interesting and how does it look on your home. it's great right I was able to put mine on the backside but it's all uniform there there's nothing there's no ugliness to it they ran the wire the the piping up the side so there's not any ice or anything yeah it's you you can almost tell where I can now you probably can to know Stephen when you drive around if it's a system that advanced solar energy solutions did because it doesn't look like somebody just stuck a bunch a leg goes up on top of the roof. that's true we have one in our cold dissect it looks that way yeah right yeah I an Emmy and that's important it's it's for the aesthetic value so let's get down to the real. most important thing I guess Steven how's your electric bill these days. well I I don't have one and I have to pay a tax to New Jersey I think it's two dollars and thirty four cents or something of course you do of course you do yeah well that's a so so Ron didn't didn't didn't save you money on your utility bill that. no no I'm making money. right so you get all of the S. rex you get all of that so it is so let me understand Stephen you have no electric bill and you're getting a check for the electricity that you're generating exactly monthly. monthly right so Stephen it you know for the folks that are listening that are kind of on the fence about this whole thing and you know it sounds too good to be true what do you tell. no it isn't too good to be true it absolutely works but I mean I'm a product of it I'm making a realization of the least three thousand a year yeah yeah I mean that's a that's a huge cash flow especially in a high tech state like New Jersey I don't your property taxes are Eatontown but I certainly can use that hope in my town. absolutely yeah all right Stephen Clark thanks very much another satisfied customer advanced solar and energy solutions thank you very much for taking the time to talk to so again I mean run this is. we talked how many how many of your educated customers whether their commercial whether they're residential you know saying that you know that yeah it I have no electric bill zero no electric bill. you know what our customers get the true value of a we what we do but if he's if you heard what Steven said something really important so if you take a lease or some of these things if you look at your whole thing you're gonna save maybe three thousand dollars in twenty five years he makes three thousand dollars a year has a really small system on his house consider but if you multiply that right there he made seventy five thousand dollars off of this house right right he's had no luck to bill seventy five thousand you go sell your house you make a ton of money on it. we'll say sometimes I do seminars wall I know leasing is really bad so what if I sell my house in the guise of one soul or my house I hate to tell you this mission incentives on ERISA telling gotta go council to find somebody smart enough to buy a house with electric bill well in a small realtor is going to be able to take advantage of that because of the value of your home my homes of thirty thousand dollars here's been appraised more than thirty thousand dollars after the system that I bought from you residential real orders Hey Lisa this they don't even want to touch homes are shying away from now it's not your girly saving your fraction of your money it's real difficult to get off and by the way this this level if you're in a lease right now you signed up for a lease they didn't put this on your house get out they're allowed to get out allowed to get out until the son of a guns until the day they put the first nail in your room they can argue with you they get saying they may one but get out by the way if you don't buy for me buy from somebody else would just don't do it because you are in big trouble a lot of people in years come five ten
