I don't know if Josh McDaniels is a good head coach with the Raiders. But he was a good coordinator, a great coordinator with the Patriots. And Eric Vienna might not be a good head coach. But I think he deserves the opportunity to be a head coach. Jim Caldwell is another name. Jim Caldwell did a great job. Look at what he did in Detroit. Obviously what he did with the colts. He had a great team that he took over. Jim Caldwell is now Frank Reich's assistant coach in Carolina. He's not going to get a head coaching job again. What the Texans did with minority head coaches. Nobody wanted the job because they knew there were going to be sacrificial lambs. And that's what happened. Both of those coaches knew. I mean, lovey Smith ended up winning a game that they didn't want them to win. It's like, what are you doing? Well, he wants to win. He knows he's not going to keep the job. Once you get a little bit better, hey, now we're going to bring in somebody else. So that was the topic of conversation I had yesterday afternoon with somebody who works for the NFL. And I just said, you got to help me understand this glass ceiling that we have here. And we're going to give everybody an opportunity. All he doesn't interview that well. You know, he didn't get the credit. Whenever there was a great play in the Super Bowl, they always focused on Andy Reid. He's always got a plan and I don't think anything truly takes Bill Belichick completely by surprise. I don't think that Josh mcdaniel is leaving to the Raiders. I don't think this coaches that Josh McDaniels took with him to the Raiders took Bill Belichick by surprise. I think he knew what was coming. He's probably been planning for it. He's probably been prepared for it. Now let's go ahead and see what his moves are. If his moves are to move map Patricia over to offense and have Joe judge be the de facto OC, then we can talk about how terrible of a situation it is for Mac Jones. But we still got some time I think until we figure out if that's exactly what is going on. And we talked about it last week, too, Alex, you don't know what these guys are until you let them coach, right? You don't know. Everybody has to be a coach for the first time once. Right. You don't know who Josh McDaniels was until he became the play caller and the offensive coordinator for the Patriots in 2005 after Charlie lys left, a lot of people after Charlie Weiss left, were sitting there saying that the Patriots offense was in trouble, right? They lose Charlie, Weiss, they lose Romeo Cornell in the same off season to head coaching jobs and look what happened. And they didn't really miss a beat. So at the same time, they didn't win a Super Bowl for ten years. That kicked off their longest title drought under Belichick. I sure, but I don't think that that was the biggest reason why. I mean, they made it to an AFC title game. They made it to a Super Bowl. So I don't know if it was really sometimes luck doesn't necessarily go your way in the big game as the bangles can attest to, right? "Everybody had no experience until they had experience, right? Whether it's building more, whether it's Josh McDaniels, whether it's Romeo Cornell or Gerard Mayo or Brian Flores or Matt Patricia, everybody once was a position coach. They once were an assistant. They once had zero play calling responsibilities. And then all of a sudden they were given that by earning it and the rest is history. So everyone started somewhere. Bill started on special teams, right? He was right. He was coordinator and turns into the greatest defensive coach of all time. So everybody starts somewhere and maybe you just need to give somebody a chance. And it could work out as easily as it could not. Honestly. The one thing I'd say is, you know, draw, Steve, remember, the Patriots used in the preseason, even when I think Matt Patricia was their last to find defensive coordinator, right? But in the preseason, when Matt Patricia was D.C., Brian Flores would get to call plays in the preseason rod Mayo would get to call place in the preseason Steve did. I don't know that that was the case on the offensive side of the ball. These guys might have outside of judge. No, like, not even preseason experience. So, you know, you're right. You haven't done it until you die. Right. And, you know, it's going to be an interesting storyline to follow in the preseason. And obviously, teams don't call their full playbook in the preseason, but it's something to watch. The funniest thing about the preseason last year was that giants preseason game might have been the best game plan the Patriots had all year. They ran. They ran multiple RPOs. They were in a lot of Haas. They ran a lot of their stuff, but they ran a lot of new stuff too that I thought was going to be in that playbook. All year long. And then week one came around and it all just disappeared. Well, they were thrown Isaiah zubin, Christian wilkerson. Those guys aren't on the roster. You can't run their reps. So with two games, maybe Lombardi was calling plays in that game. You know, who knows? So there you go. The two best games that they had from an offensive standpoint. All jokes aside about the preseason. Was that game in week 7 against the jets, right? They scored 50 points on the jets. And they had Johnny Smith involved in the first half before he got hurt, and they really, even though it was the jets, I get that. In terms of the actual sequencing and the plays that were actually being relayed and being called. That was the best utilization of the personnel that they had on offense all year. So if they can get back to that script in that game plan offensively, then I think they'll be fine. And if they can identify that, I think they'll be fine too. And I also think you talked about quarterbacks coaches and who's in max here and all that kind of stuff. Maybe Bill thinks he's going to have a more hands on approach with Mac. And we always knew that Bill had a big hands on approach with the quarterback to begin with. You know, he was always in the corner back here. He had those Tuesday meetings with Tom Brady. Maybe that is the plan part of the plan too is not necessarily Bill Belichick calling plays on offense or anything like that. But him just having a more hands on approach with Mac Jones and the ins and outs of Mac Jones progression in year two. Well, let's get to some questions. He's proving so far to be a really good coach Baker Mayfield seems to be back in the good graces of everybody and doing a good job within that offense. And that offensive line is great to have a lot of these players back. It looks like with the strength of schedule the D V o way, however, you want to strengthen it. However, you want to pound it out because of the way their division fell. They have a really good shot in 2021. Because the NFL is connected as it's ever been as tight knit, it says, as it's ever been, players talked to each other more than they ever have. If you're selling your organization, A J. J what you have to convince him. That last year was not a common across the sky. That this is something that will go back in 2021. So here are the four places where they could, from a cap flexibility and capital standpoint. Pull it off. So listen up because maybe this affects you. Number one they had the Miami Dolphins. And they're saying the number three pick the number 18 pick and two up. That that would be the where you would start and that you would have enough draft capital to do that, and you have enough cap space to make the play at some point. Anthony put this on the list of things that were going to do at some point this this winner at some point we need to have a discussion about two. In Miami. That's That's later hypothetical. Trade number two The Jets number two number 27 Sam Darnel. That solves your quarterback problem, doesn't it? If you are the New York Jets. And they have some cap flexibility as well. They will be able to run out there. Number three the Jacksonville Jaguars. What would you trade the number one. In other words, Trevor Laurence. Number 21 number 33. So two ones and a two And the Texas will be getting the opportunity to draft Trevor Lawrence back. So that's that number four. The 40 Niners. Hypothetically. Number 12 number 43. 20,022 1st and in 2023, 1st and Jimmy Garoppolo. So they're a couple other place they mentioned. The Bears who shot Watson has been connected to don't tell Bears fans. They will get furious. The Patriots no one wants that to happen. And the Washington football team. For me. It's pretty simple, though. For me. Do what you need to do to make this guy happy. It's not that difficult. All he wants is to be invested in the process. And players like that. Are usually Invested in the process. It doesn't mean that you're turning over control of your franchise. Gosh, that was probably just what a couple of years after the Jaguars became expected franchise remember exactly the year But they lost that game. So they haven't hosted a playoff game. Since the 96 season and actually the games used to take place earlier. They actually used to take place in December, as opposed to January. And so that was December. 28th 1996. We've seen these bills in the playoffs since then. Remember Undershot McDermott. They haven't yet won a playoff game. In fact, they haven't won a game in the postseason since the 95 postseason 95 playoffs, So it's been a while they're Jones in starving for a victory. A Buffalo Bills fan base. What I've been telling you. There are throwback the nineties or back, baby. It bodes well for these Buffalo bills. How about the Cleveland Browns? First playoff appearance in 18 years. The last time they were in the playoffs after the 02 season. What happened? Lost in the wild card round to the Steelers. No, I don't not believe especially in sports that simply because there's a Terrible track record or even a trend. Nn a run of success against a particular opponent or in a particular place that it means we're going to see the same thing in the present or the future. History is just that. It's it's history and not every trend. Continues on in perpetuity. I mean, of course not. Otherwise we wouldn't charge them. But the feelers They're comfortable playing against the Browns. Over these last 21 games. They've only dropped one at Heinz Field 21 games at Heinz Field. Only one of those have been a loss. Well, think about where the Browns have been. This is their first winning season since the Romeo Cornell era. So how can you really gauge this version of the Cleveland Browns? Against The last 21 games and Heinz Field again because the Browns were going through nothing but changed and constant change equals constant losing. Well. They've settled in Though they will not have Kevin's to faith Key. So there is, of course, a change. So what did I say Something for everyone. Fresh blood, A team with no head coach. How about future Hall of Fame cubes? Better off this burger Drew Brees. Tom Brady. And maybe others, But those of the three that are closest I actually think we should put Philip Rivers in that group. I know. Not everyone agrees with me. But his numbers He's continued to climb the charts and career touchdowns, career passing yards. Season's over 4000 passing yards. He's actually bypassed Eli Manning now in those in all of those categories, or not, all of them most of those categories, but what he doesn't have are the rings. So I say, Slam dunk. Eli Manning's a Hall of Famer. And I do believe Philip Rivers should be because of his longevity and his productive. His productive nous is productivity, but I don't think everybody agrees. So that's an interesting debate, but not one will have on the show. So we're seeing future Hall of Fame Ear's We're also seeing Kind of this young stud group of quarterbacks and then everything in between. We we do not have Aaron Rodgers this weekend. Houston Texans will wear their Battle Red jerseys for Sunday's home contest vs Indianapolis Colts
"Is read a battle Red Day on the gridiron. The Texans gonna be decked out in their red uniforms when they take the field at noon today and NRG, the well rested Texans, having last played on Thanksgiving Day return to action to host the division rival Indianapolis Colts. Texas head coach Romeo Cornell is especially concerned about the defense played this Brooklyn defense not only on the front end, but also on the back again.
