There is a book the language of the blues from Alcoa Rubbed Zoo zoo ever Debbie wrote it and there's a section of course on the dog in southern Nigeria. To call someone a dog is an insult and applies the person is hopelessly oversexed. By the twenties and thirties in the U. Numerous blues songs in which a person who's been utterly humiliated by a powerful attraction to an unfaithful lover describes Him or herself as a dog and may even declared, I won't be dogged around no more. Those jobs will focus primarily on machine learning artificial intelligence and software engineering. Apple plans to build a one million square foot innovation hub in RTP for a total investment of more than a billion dollars. The area is surrounded by Duke UNC Chapel Hill, North Carolina state, seen by many tech and pharma companies as a rich talent pool, the Republican led North Carolina Legislature in 2016 past the infamous bathroom bill, which led progressive companies to curtail investment in the state. "That. Bryan. Michaela Rollie, how we doing this weekend? Doing fantastic. Hope you are. I got no complaints. Man. Spring is here. Sports her back like it's almost gone completely. Are you having a problem with sap? I've got sap dripping all over my car. No, no stop problems, man. I have to park outside because my wife gets the garage because Even though my cars newer but still give her the garage, and now my car is just covered. It looks like someone just got maple syrup and just drift it all over the car. Hey, maple serves good stuff. Now it's not one thing Or how about you guys? How you doing? How's the family doing? How is the training getting ready for hockey and and everything that's going on. So we just got like, clinics out. My youngest son's going to still, you know, playing and doing that stuff all good, you know, shout out to my over 50 guys that we play with on Friday nights, and, you know, one of the guys in the seventies. Name is pity score four goals Friday night, which was fantastic, and I got to be there to assist on a couple of them and just we just have a good group of guys and it's a lot of fun. We get out there. We have a lot of fun. We keep score a little bit, but it's just good fun and skating up and down a good exercise, and it's a great bunch of groups. All my guys out of the way Competition center. Friday nights. Nine o'clock shout out to you guys that get out there and still get after it On a Friday night when we come watch you can Now the doors are open. Yeah, from 9 to 10 15. I mean, if you don't have any plans on Friday night, nine o'clock to 10 15, you know it's not exactly a private spot to be playing hockey. But for us old guys, it works out great. That's being asked. How long how long is your season last? Oh, that's just ongoing. That's it. That's not a season. That's just what we call pick up. It's just a slot that we've got. Rich. Be one of my He's a client here, but he's the one that orchestrates the whole thing. And guys pay him 20 bucks to come out to play. We get a couple of goalies. Just split the guys up evenly usually have 12 on each side and let's get skate. Have fun for an hour and 15 minutes. No referees and just get out there and skate up and down the ice. Get a good workout in on a Friday night. I'm thinking we put together a Bryan Rawley cheering section which turns into the Bryan Rawley heckling section. Um, yeah, yeah, we're good. We'll just keep the guys who got skates on in the ring. So that's great. Do you have to say this? We keep score a little bit. I was going to say I'm calling bullshit on that one, because if anyone knows my dad, you keep score a lot of it. So I had to clarify that for our listeners. There was just a casual game. No, it's it's a competitive game. Always trash talking is a good parent. It's not. It's not in the Friday night like No, There's not so much trash idea like you. That's the way we need to talk about financial topics now. It's time to move on. Yes, his personal Bryant 91 95 to 1 to 15. You can meet the team it Rollie wealth solutions dot com and let's go ahead and get to it because inflation really starting to creep back in, federal officials say the consumer price index and March was more than 2.5% higher than the same month a year ago. Now creeping inflation is starting to become a concern to some, but Economists Jeremy Siegel. He told CNBC that he's not worried yet. I still think we're in a strong bull market. But I just I think interest rates and inflation are gonna rise well above what the Fed has projected. Enjoy this ride. It's going to keep on going. But eventually the Fed is gonna have to step in and say, Wow, we're just having a little bit too much inflation. And that's the time to be cautious. Okay, So Brian Makayla, Rollie, What does he mean by being cautious? And how do you tell your clients to respond? How did they respond to higher inflation? Well, I think the most important thing is that you planned for it. But we actually just got an interesting piece from one of our money managers this weekend is talking about kind of the trifecta that's happening with the economy right now. That's leading to this inflation. And you know the interest rates are low. The economy's opening back up and we've got stimulus checks flowing into the economy flowing to the consumer and these three things. Together. Yes, they're contributing to the inflation but kind of going off of what Jeremy said about it being a bull market. We really see the rest of this year being favorable, Toothy Main Street investor. Where is you know Dearing 2020 a lot of what was happening. It was not favoring Main Street. You know a lot of small businesses they were closing down. The bigger corporations were the ones that were staying open. But what's happening now is favoring Main Street over Wall Street, So we do agree with him on it being Bullish on the rest of the year because of those three things happening. That being said inflation is absolutely something to consider. And I think the most important thing what I said right off the bat is you just have to make sure that you're planning for it. And in any retirement scenario that you're putting together be conservative with your numbers, so you don't have to, You know, hope the praying cross your fingers that the plan works. But you know, without a shadow of a doubt that is going to be fine. Yeah, And look, you always talk about inflation. That's something we put into all of our planning, and I know as things were really heating up with a market people are concerned about that. But you gotta look on the flip side of what's happening. Yeah, there may be some inflation creeping in for sure. But look at the growth that's going on and what people are seeing in their portfolios. And there's still the lack of supply compared to to demand on the manufacturing side, So a lot of good stuff going on. You need to plan on the inflation absolutely have to have that built in and We had someone come in. It was radio listener and somebody who's listened to the show who came to us when we talk about inflation is somebody who was concerned about. Hey, I'm behind right now. And I'm in my fifties and I'm behind on where I want to be for retirement. I've got this much money, Brian, he said, Can you guys take it and like in 15 years, Can you double it to this or trip? What can you guys do to get me He had a number in mind where he wanted to be. And so we went through our discovery in our analysis, and it provides an opportunity for us to kind of share with him the tax allocation map in the asset mapping, which was really good his. He's got 10 more years, and he he may work, you know, 15 more years, But he came to the realization that future account balances or not the sole foundation for a secure, efficient and comfortable retirement. He was thinking I need to be at a dollar amount. And we said, Well, let's talk about income. Let's talk about how we can build some income planning and get you not only income, but what if we could get tax free income? What does that look like? Right? And he said Brian That's why I'm here. I never really looked at it like that. I just thought I've got this much money. I feel like I'm behind based on the lifestyle I want. I feel like I need to roll the dice and get really aggressive. But I've been sitting in cash because this market is going up and I realized I've missed out on a lot of opportunity. How do I employ this without taking a ton of risk, but also making sure I've got enough when I retirement? So we showed him basically, you know, one of our strategies. When we talk about tax allocation is Hey, we want some in the tax deferred bucket, but we know people most of the time have 80 to 90% or more in there. His taxable bucket wasn't a lot, but he had someone there and nothing in the tax free pocket. He said. Well, I've got 15 more years. So we're showing him now how to create his tax free..

"As we mentioned before and again, Brian, keep keep bringing it back up, But I love that preservation. Just trying to preserve what you've worked so hard for your entire life. When it comes to retirement, 9198521215 and Makayla Rollie are still doing the zoom appointments as well. That's correct. We are It's whatever folks feel most comfortable with. We are perfectly set up to accommodate for people via zoom. We've got our plastic dividers, and if they want to come in an office, and if you want to get out of the house, we can do whatever people like you and you know, it's interesting we had last week was All zoom week. That mean, we? I think we had everybody doing zoo meetings right before it was about 50 50. So okay, it changes from week to week depending on who's coming to the office, And you know a lot of times our families. You know, if they've been with us a long time, they'd like to come in and, you know, at least sit down a couple times a year, But, you know, obviously, it's been a little bit easier and more comfortable for some of our families to do The show me totally understand it, particularly if they're Got some of the risk factors that aren't aren't great to have, you know, with covert in terms of having respiratory disease and things like that, or if you've got you know a person in your house that's at risk, So we get it. We understand. You know, we call it the no judgment zone. In terms of what you're comfortable with. We're comfortable. If you want to come in and sit down. We're more than happy to do that. If you feel more comfortable doing assume meeting, we will do whatever is more convenient and more comfortable for you at this time. We're pretty lucky in 2021 that we can do the zoom meetings because Brian McKellen, we couldn't do this 20 years ago, Back in 1985. We couldn't set up a virtual appointment, so we're very lucky to have that option and again, Rollie well solutions dot com business up top and then you could do pajama pants on the bottom. So that's what when you want to set up that zoom appointment or give me a call. 9198521215 and we talked about the questions that we ask him like that. I enjoy asking you questions because I'm getting educated, like, hopefully you are, too If you're listening to Raleigh's retirement coach, but we hit the streets task of our listeners. All right, you get the opportunity to talk to a financial professional. What do you want to know? You know what the rules change. I'm planning for what the status is right now. I just hope it doesn't change drastically. The number one question I have about retirement is having enough money to last until I no longer needed. Which means, you know If I live long enough, I may outlive my my outlive your savings as well. I think she was going to say there and I think what rules were changing is I'm sure common question. You get a my gonna outlive my savings. What are some of the biggest questions that you get? Well, I think that this this little clip, you know, going out talking to our listeners. The number one question we get asked is Do I have enough, And that's the number one concern that folks have when they come and talk to us if they want to make sure They're never going to run out of money and that they can do so without compromising their lifestyle. And s. So I would say that that is the number one question that we get Aston. It brings us great joy to, you know, give people clarity and regards to that answer and the number two especially with you know the volatility that we saw last year. All the changes that we've had an administration. People want to know what are the rules going to change? Because, you know, we always say the one thing that's constant is change. So you want to make sure that your plan is flexible and is going to adapt favorably. Two things that you might not be able to control and it's important to have a plan or else you can't adapt. The plane's got to be fluid. It does give us you know some sense of satisfaction when you know people of the biggest thing that they're concerned about his Hey, will my savings outlast me, and then we put together an income strategy. Plan takes into consideration taxes and inflation and current revenue streams. And then we put a plan together to make sure that they never will run out of income and that it could have The retirement that they've always imagined at the lifestyle. You know that they've always imagined after you know, putting in 30 40 years off good, hard, honest work that that's something that does give us a lot of satisfaction. And you know, when people walk out of here, they know they've got a plan that they can pretty much take to the bank and that it's not going to fail because we're using very conservative numbers were making sure we're gonna stress test that plan every which way to Sunday. To make sure that if we tell somebody you're good that they can take that to the bank because we've done the work and what I mean by that is we've looked at their expenses we've built in margin we've accommodated for long term care. We've accommodated for inflation. We've accommodated for taxes, and you don't know everything that's going to happen. But when we've got over 60 years of experience and helping people with this particular phase of their life, we've seen a lot of it so we can make sure That we've we've gone through this hundreds of times, thousands probably, and you don't get a do over when it comes to retirement, So our goal is to make sure we can alleviate those blind spots that people may have not thought of on their own. And make sure that we already have a plan in place before it even happens, You know? Can I put you on the spot and ask you this? I know you get a lot of questions regarding finances. And how do I get prepared for retirement? What's the strangest question you've got? Well, I could remember his friend a few years, but I can remember somebody coming in That had $100,000 in savings and $240,000 in credit card debt. And you know they were paying 17 18% of her credit card debt, and they wanted to know when they could retire. It's like, Well, I mean, yeah, that was probably one of the strangest moment on and the strange part was they didn't even Realized like they were in a lot of trouble. So there was a big disconnect there. And I'm like who we wait. Gotta this has got to be paid off. Oh, yeah. I'm gonna pay that. No, no, this isn't it eventually faded. Now that's like to be the most important thing. I'm like. You can't retire. It won't work and so That was really just a very it That's only happened maybe twice in 25 26 years. But it's important, though, that they at least came to you like Of course, they're not on the right path. I need to get their debt in order before they start looking at retirement, But the fact that they trusted you enough to say, what can I do to get there? And that's kind of a sign of what you do it really well solutions. If you have those questions about Am I on the right path? Doesn't cost anything just to give him a call. But if you are looking towards retirement, and you do have that $750,000 saved up and no credit card debt. Listen, they're gonna buy that 250,000 credit card dead. That's probably not a good telling you now started. That's only look. We've met with hundreds of thousands of people over 25 years. Totally having twice. So get that credit card paid off. And then let's talk about retirement 9198521215. They won't give you a complimentary A second opinion again. 9198521215 normally cost $995. But this weekend, the first seven callers if you have that $750,000 saved up and you're ready to retire, just let him look at just let him look at your portfolio and help you make the right decisions..

"A big piece of wood in a pretty short period of time with a good bit and brace. So I'd had round here forever this and the the spot for braces a really nice. If you've ever seen a spot for brace, they don't they don't have it chuck. They have this really cool. Little will thing that you can just slip your bit into got thumb screw that you turned tight crime. As starting to Golo we're. All right Dave you don't need a drill press, get a brace. But you know the biggest thing is just to make sure there isn't any run out pretty much everything else you can overcome and you can buy some pretty nice drill presses for variable reasonable price wanting I should mention if if it does ever variable speed suddenly some of these had. A clutch assembly in it, and basically it was like the snowmobile clutches. As you put pressure on one, the other one grow, and so you could. Bury your speed with Yatta wide on it, and so one bully would collapse. It would pull the belt outer release. The belt in the other pulley would expand to law the speed difference. Those things can get pretty wonky with a lot of wear. So make sure you check out the variable speed to make sure it runs. All the way through from the lowest setting the highest setting, whatever it takes gotta laver it's got to crank run all the way through to make sure that it doesn't hang up somewhere or starts rattling like crazy when it reaches the spot where somebody left it for twenty years without changing the speed. Make sure that it's everything works in. It looks like a pretty simple tool because it's just runs up and down drills a hole. There are a lot of little details like every tool we work with. If. You ignore him you're not GonNa get very good service out of tool. So. One one last question. You you. You talk about taking calpers to a and looking for run out what's acceptable range? I mean we're woodworker. So quarter of an inch. The Andrew. I mean, are you are you looking to be under five or something? Under five in. Okay. Under five. Lucky there with my guess. More you know. Is when you start getting. More run out you start oscillating as you're cutting and so you don't get truly round holes and it. Makes a mess out of stuff so Cleaner the the more concentric it runs the better it's going to boring. and. That's exactly what you want. If you got a lot of run out if you've got a crappy chuck or and swampy quill and you're trying to do brad point you or or even force, you don't get very clean halls because it's obsolete it's not cutting through it has to use the rim of the foreigner bit to cut true and it's fighting itself. So starting a whole toughen. Get something. That's. Some these little benchtop units you tournament, and there is no discussion in the area because they rattled Sola you can hear anybody and people are trying to build stuff the bathroom. That's that's a a handyman's tool for out in the garage. Right on. So, Mike. Any drill press for you. Me? Yeah You're happy that you. Metro press that's a old buffalo press in actually did change the the chuck on it that was Kinda cool because he didn't really know how it was stuck on their. made some like shallow Englewood wedges and just like Kinda hammered them. opposing. Each Other in pop radio now? Oh. That's how you do. Okay. Wars is amazed me that more steeper jammed together one. That's that's. Machine correctly, you just data. All of that heavy drilling and all the stuff that goes on and doesn't fall off until you get some. By one invasion ones, and then they fell off every time full quill up. Although before I, looked it up on youtube and figured out what to do I did take my sledgehammer and bang on the top of the quail thinking that was just GonNa knock that thing right down like a lady but that didn't work. Out But. It could if you hit hard. Break something in, you'd have to find a different droplets. All right. Well, that was about the soundest twenty, five minutes on drill presses ever in the history of the world. And.

"Playing a hit it can't be Rollie James well it is and I am and I'm in for G. again tonight and you got me tomorrow night as well and I promise she will be back ready to talk to you on Thursday so over the next couple nights it's just you and me and of course the esquire's big hit top three R. and B. just narrowly missed the top ten on the pop charts the Moore family formed in fifty seven when they were kids originally Betty Moore in the US cars but Betty quit the group in the walking listening to W. A. W. A. in in nineteen sixty six moved to Chicago in addition for Curtis Mayfield who probably turned them down this I'm not sure what he did like but then they went to constellation that folded before ever even got a chance to hear my things then they ran into Bunky Shepard who change their fortunes may nineteen sixty seven magical for them and they were more than a two hit wonder group yeah I get up and get away but so many other good things to affect the the flip of get on up it's just a terrific record listen to me but I digress hopefully will listen to me tonight thanks to producer jasmine we have things to talk about I am in her debt and I'm I'm trying not to completely eviscerate edgy show trying to keep within the format not that I've ever done that before and we will be talking about a number of things in fact around a half hour break we're going to talk about tech gift ideas for moms and I think to myself mom and tech isn't that an oxymoron for most of us well we'll be finding out when we talked to Lisa at SUNY I think that's how we pronounce it will find that out to I looked at this and have this deja vu feeling the last time I remember talking about mother's day gifts on the air was nineteen sixty six and I was in Austin Texas I had this woman on who's that droning on about this and that and I'm paying half a mind of attention to it and then she talks about these purses and one of them I remember had like a seven thousand dollar price tag yeah and I'm thinking never mind automatic transmission for seven grand a what indoor plumbing right and so she just watches on sentiment up finally I said look let mom carry a hefty cinch sack be done with it needless to say no one asked me to talk about mother's day gift since so a few decades later we'll see if I do any better I know that Lisa will also be talking to the owner of the McEnery outdoor drive in and drive ins have really been going the going the way of all of us yes passing into the distance but those that are around have found new found success during the pandemic that's for sure so we'll find out what's got to doing and what else do we have the national museum of Mexican art that's appropriate because this is single the bio indeed yes on on taco Tuesday at Cinco Tamayo and most of us can't go out and celebrate so what else do we we have the better business bureau now they're they're probably busy these days to say the least and for most businesses it's not better but we'll find out about that and a lot more so it'll be an interesting three hours as I fill in for G. and we've got Adam engineering the show so if you like what you're hearing he got it there and if you like the content jasmine did it and other than that all just play some R&B oldies I'm probably James and this is WGN radio though we're apart these days Schering.

Colorectal cancer rates are declining due to improved screening

"And a member of the eart end digested z senate memorial hermann welcome aboard doc thank you very much thanks for having me no my pleasure colorectal cancer i read is the third leading cause of cancer related death united states going to be about fifty thousand of us die from it this year is that right yes actually it's actually the second leading cause yeah but you're right with the numbers it's about fifty thousand about two decades ago it was about sixty thousand per year so we are making some progress but the number on the way up or on the way down overall the numbers on the way down and we've seen that over the last three decades so we we are making significant progress likely because of more people getting screened more options to get screened greater awareness to get screened how do we rank as a country compared to other nations around the world on this one not so great our national averages in terms of of colon cancer screening about sixty sixty five percent for our population now keeping in mind when we compare ourselves to other western countries we're not doing so great when we're comparing ourselves to other countries that don't have the the healthcare resources that we have we're doing wonderfully we are yeah i would rather compare us to countries that also have good medical care absolutely yeah so so why the acs changed a screening guideline from fifty to forty five well that's their recommendation and it's a it's a what they call a qualified recommendation which means that there's not a lot of direct evidence to support the recommendation but what they've what we've observed in the medical field especially guests rollie over the last two decades really it's come to the fore in the last five to ten years is an increasing incidence of colon cancer in younger patients typically thirties the forties forties fifties and it seems like betty increases particularly noticeable in that mid forties group so it was set originally at fifty i'm going to guess because that's about where we started seeing the occurrence right that's right we at the major risk factor for colon cancer screening is advancing age there's no way to prevent that there are preventable risk factors smoking trying to maintain an ideal body weight maine mm limiting your intake of of high fat foods and and red meat but by far ages the greatest risk factor and most of the studies that have been done looking at screening tests to see if they're effective and they can identify cancer or their precursors used age fifty as the as the starting point so most of the direct data that we have applies to patients over fifty and for many years that's been kind of the standard but the acs is now recommending consideration of starting at age forty five men or women either them at greater risk men seem to have a greater risk than women in terms of earlier development of colon polyps and colon cancer but women catch up with us and as over our lifetimes the risk is about the same the risk is about six percent for an individual without getting if they don't ever get screened in their lifetime they've got about a five to six percent risk developing colon cancer race or ethnicity ethnicity in there at all that's a great question and and that is something that we've known about for again a decade at least that african americans or black seem to have a greater risk of developing colon cancer early and they also have greater mortality or higher mortality than whites or hispanics raisins can't put a finger on it yet as to why maybe or just we don't know why there's genetic component there maybe you know lifestyle components as well but it's it's probably something more with genetic and you can always throw in healthcare resource access as well so that's a good point ignoring age is a factor i if you could say stop this and you'll most decrease your risk would it be the smoking the weight gain or the fatty foods smoking absolutely caffeine and there's so many other benefits from not smoking i'm so glad i quit i quit i smoked for too long.
