"And I get it. It is a special place, but how protective some of these writers are in some of these voters are and how it needs to be a standard more of just on the field. You have to be a good guy. Or you had to do things the clean way that I don't get. I'm not saying you should look at Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. Maybe the same way. You look at a Babe Ruth. Or maybe the same way you look at a Hank Aaron or you look at a Sandy Koufax or Nolan Ryan. Whoever it may be. We know that Barry Bonds cheated. We know that Roger Clemens cheated. But what's the goal of the Hall of Fame? The goal. The Hall of Fame, in my opinion is to put the greatest players of all time in the Hall of Fame. And I can't tell the story of baseball without Roger Clemens. And without Barry Bonds, I'm not saying you gotta celebrate them. I'm not saying you gotta love them. I'm not saying that you have to be happy that they're in the Hall of fame. But it is without a doubt in my mind that they should be Hall of Famers. We're talking about a guy. And Roger Corman's clean or not, and we know he wasn't clean, had seven Cy Young awards. He won the world serious twice. He won the Triple Crown twice. He led the M O B and wins four tons. He went to the All Star Game 11 Tons. Barry Bonds, 17 and 11 VPs was a 14 time All Star. But the NL in home runs twice batting champion twice. There's still two the all time great players I've ever seen. Now, you could say Zack. They didn't do it clean. Absolutely. They didn't do it clean for their entire career. They did not do it the right way to tell that story. That's part of the story, but to admit them from the Hall of Fame, I just I'm not on board with it. Can't get behind keeping these guys out of the whole thing. Because if you ask me a 15 20 years from now It was some of the greatest baseball players that you've ever seen, even with 15 20 more years going. Is anyone gonna pass? We're not too many people are gonna pass what Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens did so baseball for a while. I had no problem with what was going on. So now we're going to just pretend At this era didn't exist, and we're gonna human erase history. That I'm not on board with. Put him in, tell their story. Tell their history. I hate though the process of the Hall of Fame and I think the vote should be more diversified. I really I think you should be diversified. Let's get it out of the hands of just writers. They could continue to have the majority the vote, but let's open this up to guys that are living in the Hall of Fame. Let's open this up. Also the team broadcasters, you're telling me Vince Scully? Doesn't get a vote. Come on. And even events. Scully may vote for a Dodger, too. That shouldn't be in. That's not going to get that guy in over the top. What the agenda is definitely come into effect here. Because someone doesn't like a guy because someone didn't talk to him. Or you have voters that think they're a whole lot more important than than they are. And they have to play morale, police and all because this guy cheated. We can't put him in. Because this guy Says ridiculous things. I'm not excusing what Curt Schilling said. I'll be abundantly clear on that for the 19 time when I brought this up in the segment, but because he had Just crazy things that he said an awful things that he said. Oh, you know, we can't put him the whole thing. It doesn't take away. In my opinion from the stats, you may think of Curt Schilling differently. You may think of Barry Bonds differently. You may think of Roger Clemens differently, but still when we talk about their history, we say that all three a great baseball players The waiting has been going on long enough. It's time to put them in. And I don't like how Curt Schilling went about it yesterday. And I don't think they should take him off the ballot continue to go through the process, but the process does need to change. This is not something I've been saying recently. I said this for a while. Said it for a while. Make the minimum 12 some years. It's tough to keep it a 10. I think that's 100%. So if you need to do but something you could consider and also Hall of Fame players get a vote. Team broadcasters get a vote because how many guys have uncovered baseball for a while, they still get votes. Fact they told Dan Lebatard to get out of town when he let the fans vote. On his ballot. His belt was actually pretty damn good. Baseball, too. I understand what you're protective the Hall of Fame, but the standards are too ridiculous. You like Pudge? In one punch Did stakes are its only God knows But we can't put Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens in There's no consistency and I'll be consistent here. Not only should Clemens not only should bonds get in, I put Sosa and I put Maguire and and you know what There's one more to appease all Pete Rose. He rose cheated..

"No to Roger Clemens, those three dudes with the closest and voting by members of the Baseball Writers Associates of America. They released their voting results on Tuesday, and there would be no instruments for the first time in the baseball Hall of Fame since 2013 now one guy did vote for those three guys. He is Bob Nightingale does a great job Now is the Hall of Fame Voter, of course, but it's a USA Today. Sports Major League Baseball calmness He is here, thanks to the Goodyear Hotline. Bob. A lot of people did not join you. But Curt Schilling was one that made the most noise saying You know what I got close, But I'm not going to get in. It's because of my political views. And yes, I'm paraphrasing. What are your thoughts on some, not voting him in or void for Curt Schilling because of the political things that he has leaned towards in the last 3 to 4 years. Widely that I just spoke of use, but just you know what a hatred out there? Um you like things, he said. I mean, Maria Rivera, the was his biggest Trump supporter. As any athlete, he was unanimous pick. So it wasn't just, you know, Pope of you just you know, I think, you know, spearing stuff from hatred involved things like that. And he was the only guy in the balance the handle, you know? Added chances here and he shouldn't you should have got it without Twitter of these A slam dunk again in now, you know, he said he doesn't want to be considered in the war. You know, I think he might be done. That last part for people who don't know card, Schilling has said. Remove me from the ballot for next year when you saw that, and he's that close because he probably gets in to Cooperstown next year. If he's on the ballot. What was your reaction? Well, wasn't that surprised in in the sense where And he should have gone in this year and they had over 7% last year. He should have easily got in over. You know, 80%, maybe 85%. So I don't think he gets in, You know, no matter what, Even if you didn't say that. Even if he stays off Twitter next year, So maybe it's a chance. But he is going to double down and keep on using Twitter and everything else. So I don't think he was going to get in. And I really don't I think there's only chance to get in is really stay off social media and the miners will say we'll get you we're gonna put you in any way. How much of that is right wrong. Or maybe it is indifferent. I don't know. But, Freddie Now we're talking about this in a pre show meeting. What is Twitter? What is your political views have to do with how you played the game. It really doesn't mean it's just I think just a hatred involved everything else. Senator supporting your the insurrection that the White House and things like that, But he didn't do that as a player. That's why I voted for him. It wasn't you know Twitter was around. He was doing that stuff You wanted about it and tore up the clubhouse. Dad didn't happen, so that's why he got my vote. Because it's happening in this career of his life. You know what? Whatever it is, he's doing it and then and then affect him as a player, So that's right. Voted for the guy. Bob Nightingale, USA Today Sports Major League Baseball Kanis and also Baseball Hall of Fame voter joining us here in Freddy and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio, the ESPN APP and XM Channel 80. Even Curt Schilling put out there on Twitter, saying, I'm being lumped in with two guys who violated the game on paraphrase when it comes to steroids, meaning Barry Bonds and also Roger Clemens, and that's why he said that you should just take my name off the ballot because I'm tired of that guilt by association. He's not the first guy that has gone through something of your guilt by association. Certain virus didn't get along certain players certain players and get on other players. But yet those guys got into the baseball Hall of Fame. Let's say for argument's sake and play along with Bob. If he does get the majority of the vote next year. What is a liar? Kirsten is going to say my bad. I was just kidding. This is a great honor. Oh, I think you would say that. I think people of that gun Oh, my God. If he gets an inductive, the Hall of Famer like the Hall of Fame what's again, said Defection ceremony. I think you were stuck straight to baseball. I think you have been a homo buddy honor. And I still believe the same thing. If he gets in, you know, he'd be humbled by it and everything else, you know, but I think at some point these guys say he really wants in. And then when you said, stay up social media, no controversy. I don't think it's a chance. Otherwise, I think you will say You know what? Since nobody got in this year, my balance crowded bunch of guys put up with 10 guys. Oh, don't take him up about just so they could squeeze somebody else in Bob, you have some hard liners like your old friend Randy Galloway is a mentor. Mind who are not going to vote for, as he calls on the roid guys. Um, you did explain when you talk to some of your fellow All of fame voters that divide when it comes to Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds. I mean, there's so many, you know, so many guys are voters, men and women were just against the whole steroid use. You know, I understand with a common from but how can you not vote for bombs and planning your vote for guys? Were strongly suspected their likeness with strong suspicions. Okay, they're talking about Mike yacht surge of Bagwell or blood. Rodriguez. You know, it's like, why aren't we living in two best guys of that early era? I'm going to the cleaners, players who haven't lent I'm not in so they've always had my ballot. My vote on the ballot, but the data you're eligible the first two days I check off every year. So I think it's a joke. They're not in the Hall of fame. You know why we penalize these guys were letting everybody else in, you know. Are we really going toe? You guys gonna vote for Alex Rodriguez? And in David Ortiz next year is still not both for Bonds and Clemens. It doesn't access to me, by the way, I'm going to miss that. Bob 90, a USA Today Sports Major League baseball comments on Freddy and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio and XM Channel 80. That's the whole Hypocrisy with this whole thing, Because let's say you're voted. That was never gonna vote for Barry Bonds. Never gonna vote for Roger Clemens. And in this case, never gonna vote for Curt Schilling. But then what? If that happens, Bob? What kind of message are the baseball right Association? Not you. But other people sending that if they don't vote those guys in or cast a vote for.

"What company live for the town fair tire studios, Palo town Fatai, and nobody beats sound fair. Nobody, you know, I ran we ran a contest. Months ago. In the winter when it was, you know, cold, and bleak and pick this game on the schedule figuring. Hey, whether just be getting nice, which obviously, just is Red Sox would be in town. So. I said, take the winner and two of his two or his or hers friends to the game this evening and that's tonight the game. So. The winner was named Brendan. I don't know what Tony was from Onslow to remind me but he's the winner. And we had a Colo who calls up a lot, Neil calls up through the is, and he said that he was one of his friends, and he was joining them tonight. So I don't know who third person is. But I guess that's why I'm going to meet at the stadium tonight. So so sitting with the three winners from the contest that we ran back into winter for tonight's game. So finally, it is here that night. So it will be this evening, and we got a nice night for thankfully. Tony. What's up, Tony? How are you? How are you, Mike? What's happening? Mike. I think you know, when you whenever you have cash for non he's always very transparent. And I think the next time you have him on regarding this trade deadline. I think other deadline a few years ago where he basically sold off everyone at got these pieces. I think this is the most important trait deadline of his tenure and mortar, the reason is because even though a little overly dramatic. But here's the reason I say because I agree with you. Get these calls from Yankee fans complaining that they didn't go after you tell them that the Furlan it showed up for Houston wasn't what he was later. I agree with you, and I think that's what's reminding me now Bumgarner because even though he's showing the flash of what he was when the giants for winning the titles. He's the type of guy that you trade for a piece like that. I think he's also twenty he's been on a bad team and he's twenty nine I mean but listen. You know, I would be after him I am after him. And it's the one guy I want, I don't want anybody else. He'll be in town next week. As a matter of fact, the giants play in the Mets next week. He has no trade, which just means he's gonna make more money. He's gonna make money. Anyway. I don't know. He's a little different. You know that he's a little different guy. So you don't know exactly what he's thinking all the time, but I would think he'd wanna come take another run and getting back and playing some games. I would think you would think that would be the case. But listen, when you look at it. You're only thinking in terms of them beating big teams in the postseason and while they're very complete team. And they right now have a lot of depth and they have a lot of things going for them. The one thing that you wonder about is the starting pitching and other than I don't discount. I don't worry about Tanaka. I just can't wear anything with him because I've seen Tanaka is almost is healthy enough to take the ball. I've seen him now enough in the postseason though. He's gonna pitch well. That's the times the other guys. I just I've seen be hot and cold, and you can't trust them. So and again, listen, you don't expect every game every pitcher to go in there and throw blanks. Don't expect it to be the case. And you need you bullpen. I mean, remember the Yankees, one in Ninety-six, because their bullpen held them hell them in place, held the other team in place for inning after inning, if they're earning after this after this thought has got hit, and that's allowed the increase to catch up. And some of those games including being six nothing down in Atlanta. So I mean, that kind of stuff is, is very important to have that kind of pen. So I think the pens championship is the is the rotation championship. No, that's not right now. Eric in Long Island. What's up, Eric Mike afternoon? Harry, what's happening? All right. Mike Klis, I need a pass. I have not been very aggressive with it, but I think this she I, I agree with you. They really need to go after top-flight pitcher. And the reason is there a very complete team. I think they're good at all fronts right now. And what the really to me, missing is an as I'm not counting on several ever making it back this year. You know, I've never liked the first round best defied. I wish that that's not indicative of the season. I have an eight can go half the games in the series. It's not a baseball season though. So you could be a much better team. But if they had an ace better than your age. That's two of the five games. So when you go up against sale or early ender twice nine seven but twice in five games. They though that's that's two of the five wins the games right there. And they need somebody who can match up against them, because it's not always in the first one never he by the game you can't calculate because last year it wasn't those guys. It wasn't sale. You know it wasn't. It was evolved. It was price. It was those guys who were killing the Yankees last year. I mean and it was timely hitting. And that's what hap-. In the playoffs you got this you win into place close. Your clutch that's and you can never predict this. You cannot predict it. You just can't you think the Red Sox could predict Jackie Bradley was gonna hit those home runs in the playoffs last year. I mean. You can go to and five games. Well, I mean yeah, if he pitches like in the postseason the greatest pitcher of this generation has been has been a complete puzzle in the postseason. He's been one of the great pitchers of all time Kershaw of all time. And he has been a mystery in the postseason. So you don't. That's what makes it even harder. You don't even get a guarantee from a guy by looking at what he does in the regular season that he's gonna be that in the postseason. You don't know Berlin that has responded in Houston. Absolutely has other guys go to teams and don't response and Kershaw doesn't respond. Greg Maddux didn't respond a lotta times. Roger Clemens didn't respond. Roger Clemens is one of the greatest of all time. It was always good in a postseason, Greg Maddux. Clearly wasn't the same pitcher in the postseason. And some guys like L Duca, go the beach for eleven weeks, and then come in and throw shutouts. It's just a very odd dynamic, and it's not. But what I've learned is that when guys can do it in the postseason. And do it. They usually all repeaters. They usually guys who do it. Like I'll do Kate was always good in the postseason. As an example. Josh bell? What's up Josh? Hey Mike in your opening. You're saying how the Yankees drought is becoming near epic. It is. And I think that, you know, it's only been ten years, and it was in one in twenty but they're twenty for the Yankees won in twenty is epoch goes down and look at the history in the last since Babe Ruth came to the Yankees, look at the history, one in twenty years for the Yankees epoch. Yeah. I mean, I think you didn't get in qualified that we didn't beating. And that's that's, that's what I was telling you that go back and look at it. I mean, go go back and just pick a decade. And tell me go pick twentieth spin and tell me where the Yankees didn't win. I ended. But my point was that the Yankees drought in Yankee perspective, the fans because other teams would kill for one thing because. A Yankees judged by other teams. The Yankees have been to the World Series once thinking about all the Mets fans are the you're now again again listen again ever. Josh that means nothing to Yankee fans. It means nothing in Yankee history. The Yankees are judged by Yankee history. No other history. Okay. I've been through droughts in my life since of following the Yankees Pinson, droughts, sixty four to seventy six was a drought. Okay. The eighties were a drought. You went from drought from eighty one the ninety six that was an incredible drought, you, and now back in a severe drought. Yes, it was broken in half in two thousand nine and that's that changed everything and save jobs. It saved jobs. It say it saved incredible careers. It changed everything because without that one without that one only having losses. Only been losses to Arizona and the Marlins. In the last twenty years would have been something that heads would have rolled fosuna so that, oh, nine championships changed everything for so many people without it, they would have been a lot of different histories. But still, they have one win since two thousand one and they have one visit since two thousand three that's that's that's epic for the Yankees. This is two thousand nineteen you look at the Yankee history. Okay. I mean what pick pick a decade. Twenties dominant the thirties dominant the forties dominant delayed forties, fifties completely dominant. The fifties into the sixties. The Manley is completely dominant twelve World Series and fourteen years, and then the first lull, sixty four to seventy six then when the world says seventy six seventy seven seventy eight eighty one and then the lull, the ninety six big lull, terrible years, the eighties where they hit and couldn't pitch the stunt narrowly is where they would just disaster. And then obviously the strike year which started to be the harbinger of things to come the terrible losses Seattle, which spawned, so many things and then the dynasty. But since that since the three since the three in a row, a loss in a one leading three games to two a loss in oh three. The devastation of four. And then one World Series. Oh nine. It's been a long time coming case in jersey. What's up guys? Mike. Enjoy the game tonight. Yes, I'm calling about Dede. I, I understand he returns next is amazing. It's only thing he you know it's amazing how quickly hills. Now is that is that because he's a position player and I think he's a fast healer. I just think he's a very fast healer. I think some guys are some guys, it takes them a long time, dis not a big man. He's a he he's probably a guy who just has a very, very good composition. He heals very quickly. He's come back in the past from injuries very quickly. So I mean what are you gonna say? He's just he's, he's a quickly and I'm excited to have them back. You insert them right away. And is there is there any any dirty aberration to him not coming back for forming with how well the team is performed right now? Listen, I think the way the team played of late where they've been so good. And they've won so many games. Okay. Well, I don't know how many they won fifteen at eighteen fifteen at a twenty. I mean I don't know what they've won on this last couple of run. The runs been a lot is they want a lot of games of late. Okay. I mean, you know, they, they lost two out of four before that I think they were eleven to thirteen or thirteen fifteen whatever they've won a lot of games of late. So we know that and they've won thirty out of forty.

"Doesn't matter the sport. Whether it's baseball hockey soccer basketball football, if you're te'o and you're planting the ball on the on the star in the middle of. Knock, you know, you're going to get knocked out. And you there needs to be these types of repercussions because just a flag just a falcon soccer just a two minute penalty. And hockey isn't enough you want a rough my goalie up then somebody needs to go out there. And let them know you do that. These are the consequences. The difference though, if there's no, no, here's the difference. With the other sports, you're throwing a baseball at someone at ninety five miles an hour. Okay. And homo in your face with my fists in football. I'm Raymond my helmet into yours in soccer. I'm driving my talent you're killing cleats. Achilles. Look, I hate to break it to you. If you played baseball on any high level you've seen ninety miles an hour getting plunked in the rear really, isn't that bad? I have an issue with guys throwing a people's heads that I have a problem with you shouldn't be doing that. If you're gonna plunk guy you plunk them in the rear you plunk him in the back. He ends up with the little well trying to hit him in the back, and it goes. Up a little bit higher. And it's the guy the head then you're wrong and major league pitchers, truthfully. They don't miss by that much. If you're trying to punk guy, you can do it. And in a safe way, Sean, Sean, but missed Roger Clements if you remember that one. By the way, you want to look back at that game. I remember I was there. Sean asked his tried to hit Roger Clemens it was after the Clemens Royd rage. The first time they got a chance to face Clemens with the batter's box after Clemens to the battle pizza in the subway series on the forget this clump of s this through behind. Roger Clemens didn't hit him. But later in that game the Mets got revenge at the desk 'cause Piazza dome and ESTES at a home run that to me is cool. It's both sides of the argument. Hey, there's excitement there's flare on both sides. I get it to me, though, if I'm the pitcher on the competitor. Instead of throwing a pitch at someone and I get your point. I get your argument instead of throwing a pitch at someone and say, no, I sent a message or flex by muscles. And all that I would rather flex my muscles by trying to get the guy out the next time and showing them. Yeah. You got the best to be the first time. But I'm better than you. "Smoking safe all make themselves feel better by watching pornography. And then you have like the Roger Clemens Mike Piazza inning where they just throw back pieces at each other. You know, that'll be the seventh inning stretch you bat shorts at one another. And then all of a sudden, I mean, you wanna tell me that that's not gonna pique the interest teenagers. Let's go. Let's Mike in Brooklyn. What's happening? Hey, I wanted to say that I think that it needs to solution would be to offer more access in inner cities two baseball fields up New York without a permit. You barely having access to any any baseball fields. I love baseball fairly had a chance to play. Yeah. I mean, we get into these discussions now about base. Super Pountney suburban area, we have plenty of baseball fields. Got them all over the place. Yeah. About the inner city stuff. I mean, I think there are baseball programs that major league baseball is a part of I know Mark to share as a part of Harlem RBI things of that nature. They're trying to do everything they can to promote the game. And they're doing it at the. Been instrumental in that as well. A lot of guys aren't I think, you know, there is there is there is a concern about the lack of black young kids playing the game of baseball. And you know, they want to get the black players are trying to you know. Get support, and they have gotten a lot of support for major league baseball because you know, it's it's a pool of great players that may not be coming because they don't have access to the field like Mike was just talking about. And it is a it's an issue. It's the same issue in football because of the concussions and the injuries and mom's on what their kids to play anymore and all that other stuff, but you like to think that you know, you're teaching the game better. And maybe kids aren't playing tackle football as early as they used to be. But that doesn't mean they can't play seven on seven flag football passing leagues and everything because he's the NFL's turn into for the regular season. But yeah, I get it. You know, there's a there's a real lack of interest at the lower level. When you think about these kids playing these sports. Yeah. Another big thing too. That's going to keep this move. In is major league baseball needs to jump on this gambling trained in a big way. And it's tougher. It's not as fun to bet on baseball as it is some of these other sports, but if you can. Find a way with the proper betting in baseball legally because we're starting to see that in in a bunch of states in Racine in hockey, arenas, and stuff. If you could somehow work that in the popularity of the game. We'll just go through the roof. Can I ask you guys? Whether or not, you know, if there is a line yet on any of the af football games this weekend. I'm sure you can teams just Google it. I'm not doing a Papa do a partly. You'll have to do a parlay this week. They even have five teams. Know how you can Instagram live your five team. Oh, interesting. Live is dumb. Check. I'm not in New Jersey. So right now. So I can't look on the app. Right. But when I get home, I'll look, you know, this is where you could really make some money. There are lines on that. And get some insight on the F. It's like the harness races. It's probably all you can figure it out. Imagine I become the go-to expert for so I eight zero. So there's four games. San Diego admirals the fleet fleet. Minus five. You got the fleet. You got the commanders Al San Antonio alliens are back to stallions lake the Apollo's Seattle Prozac Orleans brass. Memphis, the Birmingham iron. The legends and the hotshots Atlanta and Arizona, so I got I got future odds. I don't have game odds right now. But the favorites to win the whole thing. Arizona hotshots really why I have no frigging save Green Bay Packer colors, but they are plus two fifty two hotshots the Birmingham iron the Memphis express in San Diego fleet or all plus one thousand they're the least favorite teams to win the whole thing. So you want to jump on that some value the Birmingham iron? Rick new Heisel is the head coach of the hot shots. They've got Trevor night is the quarterback. The Memphis express has Mike single terriers coaching Christian. Hackenberg is a quarterback. Well, there you go and are both to the SIMS boys in there. Sims planning for Lanta, right? The Atlanta team. That's what I thought. Yes. And Kevin Coyle. Is the head. Coach Brad Childress. And let's see who else anybody, Steve Spurrier's culture one of these teams. Yeah. Michael Vick is coach in Atlanta too. He's the offensive coordinator for Atlanta. I think so yes, so Atlanta's plus five hundred the Salt Lake stallions are plus four hundred there the second got Dennis Erickson as the head coach. It's just you want to know when you got a call one eight hundred gamblers when you're betting on the f-. Well, you never know. This is probably what. It's it's happening. Right. Yeah. Well, you we think a gambling. Yeah. I do. I do you think they started his leave because a gambling? I got lines. There you go. I got lines. Okay. Here we go ready. Yes. So the Atlanta legends at Orlando. It's Orlando minus five and a half. There you go. And then Memphis at Birmingham, Birmingham, minus one San Diego robbery, by the way, Madsen Birmingham. Right. So Arizona is a four and a half favourite over Salt Lake over under forty two and a half. How the hell do they come up with an over under number on Earl the home team's favored? Yes. Every home team is you can really if you got a tip on one of these games you could make a killing, but they probably limit the amount of money that you bet on it because someone comes even like a six million dollar bet on the Arizona hotshots against the Salt Lake City. Boy wonder wonder if there's lines on this in England. Let's go to Paul in Hopewell junction. Paul. What's happening? Boomer geo. What is that? Rumer? I got the best way draw crowds for baseball. Revolutionized the game make everybody interested again wanna know what it is. Now. Of course. I do. Yes. Allow for fighting like hockey. Baseball players. They're not gonna fight. They all go out there and be pumping their chest out to each other. And they go and then nothing happens. I wanna talk about a lot of action when you drop the gloves in an NHL game. You drop the gloves on let's go. I think we should put them on roller skates. All the baseball players, if we're taking all the hockey ideas. Right. Yeah. Hard. It'd be getting that batter's box roller. You imagine if you had like a hockey goal net in centerfield in the guy hits it in the net. It's worth two runs. I mean now we're talking. I'm talking about. It's like if if a med hits it to where the apple is they should get an extra run. Yeah. Or there's like there's a place in the outfield that you fall down to a big pile leaves? But it looks like the rest of the grass, and you don't know where it is. And they change a trap. Yes. He ever traps guys run. He goes even. Well, no, we don't want to hurt. These guys, you know players association with it is boomer and geo on the fan across the.

"All right, six forty six. So let me begin by the note with the fact that this prosecution is even taking place now when you're a prosecutor, you have something called prosecutorial discretion. And Muller is using that discretion against a man named Roger stone who is not even accused of Russian collusion. Not accused of providing any documents to WikiLeaks, not accused of hacking into the DNC. He's using that discretion to prosecute Roger for five instances in which he was not truthful before congress. I have to tell you. And this is an instance where Donald Trump's tweet the other day is yesterday is absolutely right. Do you know how many people lied to congress, and you know, how many people are prosecuted for congress for for lying to congress? So Roger Clemens was prosecuted for lying to congress. He was found not guilty. You had. Caspar Weinberger, he was prosecuted for lying to congress. Somebody in the fifties was prosecuted for lying to congress. And maybe one or two others that I can remember. But it is very rare. Every day that congress is in session and hearing witnesses you can make the case that someone lied to congress. Donald trump. CBS reports. That. And this was this was what he tweeted. Hang on. He he's actually been quite of a tweet a tweet storm over the course of the last two days, you might understand. This is what he said if Roger stone was indicted this is yesterday for lying to congress. What about the lying done by Komi Brennan Clapper, Lisa page and lover Baker, and so many others. What about Hillary to FBI and her thirty three thousand deleted emails? What about Lisa Peters deleted tax and wieners laptop much more now? James Clapper did lie to congress James Comey did lie to congress. These are facts backup backed up by evidence. But they're not being prosecuted because a prosecutorial discretion. They're choosing to prosecute Roger stone. But not Jim Brennan. Excuse me, James Clapper, and John Brennan. Okay. Fine. Now,.

"Base and thinking that the election of Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds at some point is going to lead a path for him to get the Cooper stop. And I for one. Fight a vote. I vote for I guess because I know whether he touches stuff not touch the stuff as a talent as players weren't a best I've ever seen. And I don't think he's one of these guys that just all of a sudden awhile by practice starts. But when you test positive as active player when you're suspended for a year. Because of performance enhancing drugs. That's something that is on your resume. That's not going to be on the resume of Barry Bonds or Roger Clements. Even though we all know, they were juicy. That's where I think you have to look at a rod compared to Barry Bonds Roger Clemens in a much different line. That being said. You will be opening up Pandora's box. The minute. David Ortiz fan, by the way, he's getting a whole vote for big Papi. At least I'm consistent about it. I'm Paul for him to but this ideal he denied so therefore he didn't fell tests come on. Don't be so naive. Don't be so dumpy. That's going to be a problem for baseball. You Mark my words. Either having a guy already in the hall of fame juice, and we get some more information about it or. A situation like this, which I think should be the road the bonds Clemens and all of these guys get it. It really is unfortunate that every year around hall of fame time instead of talking about the interesting debates like Curt Schilling Mike Mussina or die like Larry Walker contact to steroids, really disheartening. But this is what it is that a shot Vinnie gonna lead off Alex to he's up next on a foul is of any. Yes. Vinnie Vinnie not paying attention. So we're going to head to the holy land Jerusalem. Oh, he's up next on a foul. It's up. Oh. How you doing? No. How don. I'm doing great now. JJ I got two point one with the Yankees one free agency as a whole on the when you think about their number one with the Yankees say data vino thing official today. What do you think about this? You got four reliever. Probably ahead of Chad green. I'm thinking this coming season. Chad green who has a great fastball. Very deceptive fastball, and I'll be very very non factor. Breaking pitches. Do you think that they should go back to Chad green the way they used in twenty seventeen where he's twenty times as long as the special weapon instead of using where he's less effective if he doesn't come to camp with the good breaking bowl this year. I one guy with his fastball. It's not as effective when pitches back to back date. What do you think about that? I think that's a great point. I think that's absolutely something you consider if you're Aaron Boone yet, so many different weapons out of this. Bullpen, and it's funny mall. I thought when you were starting your phone call you were going to try to convince me on the idea of starting Chad green, which I adamantly disagree with. I don't think chat green point. Bingo, doesn't have the secondary stuff to be able to be a top flight major league starter. I think by giving him you know, what day here day. They're utilizing him the way they didn't 2017. Yeah. Could maybe get better results. This not that green was bad last year. But he definitely was not as dominant. So. Yeah, I think that's definitely something you think about. Now on the agency JJ, I am very concerned that we are heading towards a player strikes. A lockout with the way the last two seasons have gone when it comes to wait, wait the players have been signed. And I think four baseball can have to come to terms with the players that can definitely have to be paid more in the first seven years one in control. I think being under control for seven years. It's extremely important because it keeps below market teams. A competitive, but they're gonna definitely have to look at Dickey's show. These players get paid more talking to an example, Mike will stop you from getting screwed by the Mike now. And I think that you're gonna have to fight for you. Because I want them to control for seven years. We gotta pay demo. Jay, thanks for taking. I think that's a very good point mall. And it's going to be a very slippery slope for major league baseball and make sure they avoid a war stoppage in that is the whole lasting my friend of baseball needs. But they're going to be allowed players around baseball. Wondering why is it taking me so long to sign a contract? Mike stock is great example because the guys like Machado and Harper they're gonna get theirs, but a guy like Mike Bassac, it should not be urine, you're outside and one year contracts. Good player for that. Let's head to Jackson New Jersey. I could buddy Jordan is up next on a foul. It's up Jordan. What's going on? What's good, man? Yeah. I just want to talk about Machado with the Yankees and the Mets. But I I just wanted to know, you know, he was talking about without vino announced today. So I'm thinking, yeah Chapman. He's the closer. After that you have four guys with Britain green. Green. And then what do we have on vino? Right. So those four guys out of those four guys who do you think is the eighth, man. I know the likes to shuffled around. But I mean, especially when you're looking maybe in the postseason where it's going to be more of a considerable who do you think is taking the eighth inning things taken this. I'd be very careful trying to identify seventh and eighth inning. Because if you have a lotta that in the eighth inning is going to have a lot of left these coming up. You're going to have Zach Britton going into the game. If they're more comfortable with Dell and his match-ups, then it's going to be Matanzas. I'm curious to see how Aaron Boone will utilize all those guys in the bullpen. You know, chatman will close on days in which Chapman does not close. Zach britton. That's not debatable Jordan because I don't wanna see down. But dances pitching tonight dinning he's found such a, homey. Eighth-inning that's where he's at his best. I'm not getting cute. If I'm Aaron Boone is my closer. When it's not a role this Chapman. We. So last year, Aaron Boone mixes and matches. I don't think that you'll have a defined role for the seventy eighth inning. And you know, what you're hunting. That's a big deal. I really don't all four of those guys are more than capable and pitching a late inning situations. So it's about matchups. It's about trying to manage your bullpen at a certain point in the game for way, you think. All right. There's a couple of runners on base this game needs to be one. If I'm Boone I'm going to be more willing to go to Batanes this early on Britain early. No one I have that quality up and down. My bullpen. Yeah. You that was Machado. So first before the match with the Yankees. I know you're talking about your your pals that they wanted you know, when it comes to Machado versus and do our at thirty. You know, I I actually, you know, in the long term, I actually think I knew I would be better. But I'm looking at it more as a perspective that there are a lot of rumors about Bumgarner being on trade block, you know in the summer. So if you have a guy like Machado locked in their third that then you have an to then. Bailable and to me, and we know what's missing mostly Yankee team that that you know, that would put them over the top. And that's a lifetime starring touch-ups. You're not get that. But I think you cross that bridge when you get to it. You don't sign Manny Machado thinking. All right. We're gonna make a deal midseason and mcgillion do hard. It's going to be a part of it. If a guy like Bumgarner dare I say becomes available on the open market. I could make that sort of deal without giving up quaver tourism mcgillion, they'd have the mortgage a good chunk of their minor league system. But it's deep enough that I think they'd still be able to dare I say find a way to make that work. You don't think about that right now Jordan, you think about all right? Who can be a part of our infield now for a long period of time and do hearken fit the Bill he can do so in an all star level for reasonable cost same with labor Torres. The idea of having these homegrown guys matters to me and has always said join the guy was a better fit for the New York Yankees. It's not Manny Machado if. Not one of these big players to guy. Go get is Bryce Harper because orchid the dynamic in the outfield exit free agent after nineteen you don't know what you get out of brick going beyond this season. Frazier is he ever going to get on the field? And be a productive player. That's me. We have an aide. Yeah. And now with the Mets, and you know, it's a joke. Even that's every year. They come in. They signed players decent players. And you know, some of them are good. But I mean, I I wanted to ask you if you're a player on this in a starting position on the Mets now that you think when you're talking about wheelchairs contenders that you think would make the Yankee start to get a strong position in Keyser after I mean, I mean, obviously on the they would get their player that would have a starting position in the everyday lineup. Yes. I'm sure Conforto. You find a way to put him in the everyday Lonzo in all-stock Calva. Platt cafaro will be starting for the Yankees fan. In fact, I'd walked out 'cause he's a lefty bats exactly what they need on the outfield. But. Let the Yankees are much better team. That's breaking news. And the reason I am not as critical on Yankees. Not being one of these two guys is because I look up and down the lineup. And I see a lot of star players. Stan is there Granada's stark Calva player? Judge one of the best all. All baseball Torres was an all star and do was the runner up in the rookie of the year. Gary Sanchez two years ago. It was the best offensive catcher in all baseball. And last year was a nightmare. But you're going to sell hidden short on his talent. They have all world towns. Messed up. That's why the idea of the Mets not being Machado or Harper because of but his contract splendid me how that is a practical and a reasonable way doing business not during the business of winning and winning at a.

"And then the noise about PD started for me. It's just a shame. I'm certainly cheering for them. Both. I appreciate the transparency of because a I think all these guys should be getting in. I mean, you just say the names there, you say Roger Clemens Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez, and you somehow try to convince yourself that those guys aren't hall of fame caliber players in a time period where and I saw Damien Woody made this point yesterday, but ceiling who was the Commissioner major league baseball during that era is in the major league baseball hall of fame guy who presided over everything that was going on then and do we really think going back and looking all that when you go back, and you look at Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in that home run race that helped rejuvenate baseball at that point in time with Barry about you really think we looked at all of them and said, yeah, this feels normal. Feels natural. No. But man when everyone's tuned in and ratings are great and people are paying attention to your game. It's amazing what you're willing to look the other way on and so we're going to punish the side that was out there busting dinger's. But reward another side, I don't fully understand that. Now, speaking of not fully understanding something boy, I got in my car yesterday. And I was not ready when I strapped in my CBA. Thank god. I was wearing my seatbelt. I always do that. But second off if you happen to turn on the human flame thrower. That is Stephen a Smith who yesterday. Head to remind us all the difference. Even in the stratosphere amongst the guys that get lumped in to the steroid era conversation. Stephen a Smith's mind. There is still a difference between one of the names that we have been discussing everybody else in this Roger Clemens to me should be omitted from the hall of faith was shift stupide open. His big fat mouth. Shut the hell up you retire. It. Nobody was bothering you go away to they didn't give what McGuire that option. They didn't give them yourselves to that option. They didn't give Barry Bonds that option you had it was bought Roger Clements, and you wanna be all thanked ammonia self-righteous and defiant knowing good and damn well, all the evidence was pointing against you, and Brian McNamee said well trained, his wife, and then we see evidence which away buffed in a magazine with more muscles most of us. You You know? don't think that's going to qualify as some shred of evidence that gets to you didn't know. Of course, he did. Personal less here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. The I will say all of this prompted me to go back and rewatch some of those congressional hearings like what especially with the context of twenty nine thousand nine in our brains and all the things going on in the world outside of sports. The idea of all of these baseball's for baseball players forced to sit before congress an answer questions from congress about their alleged performance enhancing, drug abuse. What a time to be alive that all was simpler times for all of us in some way, shape or form. Now. It is amazing to as the steroid conversations gone on the Pete Rose Chirps have come back in that Pete Rose deserves to be in the hall of fame. And how we stratified that in the realm of transgressions against baseball. Because you do hear the reverence that all these guys talk about the hall of fame with in major league baseball, especially sport. So built on the backs of records, and you understand the gripe that many have performance enhancing performance enhancing, drugs slandering the name of the game undermining the integrity undermining some of the records at all these guys health. But man when it is a part of the fabric of your games history. I don't know how you just devoid that one portion of it for Alex Rodriguez sick. I appreciate his honesty. I'm rooting for him to I'm root for all those guys like again when we talk about and this is this is entirely selfish..

"To do it because that's more face tough about television. He's showed up on Capitol Hill. You have politicians who are supposedly dead who interrogate put him through an opposition looking for photo ops. Trying to get a picture with him at every turn. What did you think was going to happen? I mean, they just lost all over them. It was the baris- it. And somehow the way they managed to ask him questions. And then you remember Roger Clements said, I miss remember. I didn't even know that was a word until use it. Misremembered? Got to wife on a cover Sports Illustrated, looking all buffed. Now for the record. I'm not being disrespectful to MRs MRs Roger Clements. She did. Absolutely nothing wrong. If that's what that's what she was doing. And that's what she wanted to do training, Brian McNamee. So that's her business. She wasn't playing major league baseball. She wasn't violating any rules. So under no circumstances to Roger Clemens, and Roger Clements family, am I casting any Spurs on the life or his children for that matter who I'm quite sure wonderful. I'm talking about Roger Clements. And I'm not even talking about his PD PD his alleged PD us, which is religiously did not I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about him being stupid enough to open mouth and them to invite him to Capitol Hill. What about that testimony Nuno John without that testimony on Capitol Hill under oath his Roger Clements hall of fame by now? Yes, he is. Yes. He is. This is a seventh ballot. "Com. Twitter handle with DP show. Got a lot of stats of the day for you. And we also have a play of the day coming up. Mclovin. We'll have a poll question, but we begin with congratulations to the twenty nine hundred class of baseball's hall of fame. Marianna rivera. Edgar martinez. Mike new scene in the late ROY halladay all. Deserving enshrines. I thought it would be Rivera Martinez in Halliday. I thought MU seen it would be on the outside looking in. But you've seen it gets in. And certainly has the numbers to be worthy of that. Honour Rivera the first player to be voted in on one hundred percent of the ballots, and we all know how this works. We celebrate the guys who get in. But it feels like every year we're talking about the guys who didn't get in. It was Pete Rose there for a long time we moved on from Pete Rose. And now it's Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds, they have three more years of eligibility to get into the hall of fame. Now that doesn't mean the veterans committee wouldn't vote them in like, Harold Baines. Got in Lee Smith got in with the veterans committee. I don't I don't like that. Because it feels like if you're a hall of Famer, we know you're a hall of Famer, and you were recognized as a hall of Famer, it shouldn't be fifteen years after you play that we all of a sudden go, you know, on second thought that might happen with Clements in bonds, but they're both. About sixty percent. They need to get to seventy five. And if you follow the trend, they do have a chance it's going to be tight. I do think they get in. But I think it's going to be tight. I also find it ironic that the new voters might decide if bonds and Clements get in. So the new voters who didn't cover bonds and Clemens could decide if bonds and Clemens get into the hall of fame, and if they get in a Rod's going to get in we can start to go down the list. I don't know if Andy Pettitte gets in Sammy Sosa gets in five years ago. I thought this would never happen with bonds Clements it felt like with the old guard. They were not going to let them in because they were the keeper of the flame there at the whole of fame the holes doors open to players who will once thought not to even have, you know, even have a chance here in bonds and Clemens they have a chance a very good chance over the next three years. I love the reaction with Mary on a Rivera Seton. If we could play that that. This is the actual phone call. And if you've ever been around Marianna Rivera that he is who he appears to be from a distance. If you're a fan, and you see him, he's as classy as any athlete I've ever been around as nice as anybody I've ever been around. And no ego. Here is the call from the hall for Marian Rivera. Hello. He's big into him. Who is this? Gerry how you doing man? You remember I told you phone call? Call. Yesterday. I have another..

Trey wingo with you again, you want to get in touch with us. Get in touch with a couple of ways one eight hundred flowers dot com Twitter feed at Golic and wingo or check out our page creatively titled at goal. There you go. So we've talked a lot about the stories of the four hall of famers that got voted in yesterday. Mariano Rivera, ROY halladay. Edgar Martinez and Mike Mussina again. Congratulations to all of them. It's again, the shame ROY halladay passing away in two thousand seventeen that plane crash. Really, certainly sad sad there. But for the family, it's such a great honor for them. And then there's the story every year now in its seventh year, I should say of Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds to guys Societa with steroids and PD's at they're not getting voted into the hall of fame at this point. They have three more shots on the ballot four goes into veterans committee, which means they're never getting in. Because veterans committee is not letting them. I'm in so three more votes in where were they this year? They went up again. Roger Clemens was at fifty nine point five percent, Barry Bonds, fifty nine point one percent, basically two hundred fifty three votes. Two hundred fifty one votes. They're going to need in the area of three hundred twenty votes to get to that seventy five percent threshold. So after the guys that got in the next was Curt Schilling got basically sixty one percent of the vote, and then it was Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds at fifty nine so three more years. They were both about what fifty three and fifty five last year percentage right in that area there. So they jumped up again. But I gotta jump up. Quick math is going to tell you what another sixteen percent in three years. Are they going to do that? Because you have guys who are voting just basically saying nothing's changed for me. Not vote. No. You get a few that are increasing their balance. But will it be enough again at two fifty three and two fifty one they need another basically sixty five seventy votes to come their way over the next three years to make it in. I always said I think eventually they're going to get in. But I don't know what the turnover is going to be in the voters here over the next three years to wonder if it's gonna make enough difference for them to get in and so much of the conversation around this unanimous vote from Arianna Rivera has been the idea that public. Shame was driving force for the hall of fame voters to go. And to not be the one guy that leaves him off just for the sake of history. We've never done this before all these reasons that are bad reasons to not do anything with this hall of fame voters have a little. More on their side as far as public support from other baseball furious baseball fans who say that because of these guys tied to that cloud of doubt in the steroid era. We're going to leave them out. We feel like we're comfortably supported I just wonder we talk about aging out the voters for the hall of fame. I wonder how we the aged out that support for that line of thinking at this point. Yeah. And listen, here's the other thing. They're not getting in the way, it's going. It's just it. They should get in. I think they should get in. Because you can't write the history of baseball about the steroid era. And you don't know who was and wasn't using it that point there. There are a couple of that have been proven to be user. But there are other people that you don't know these two were not proven yet. Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens they were not guys that miss time for this not anything like that..
