"Stephen Adams could have rolled to the basket had a wide open layup I. Don't know if you had the sound up but that's what I think. It was Mark Jackson who was calling the game for ESPN kept saying over and over he keeps saying if I'm Steven Adams I, just roll to the basket and have that guy throw it to the rim. Yeah. Telling them to do it and they just never saw it and then there's all this Scott Foster bs I mean Scott Foster is unanimously voted whenever they do those anonymous players surveys who is the best in who is the worst raph in the NBA Scott? Foster always comes up as worst ref in the NBA. They'll do in there well, because every official gets graded. And he grades out higher than everybody he the but he's got this pissy little relationship with Chris Paul that's affecting that game. You shouldn't have those kinds of relationships. How can you be unbiased as an official and have this little back and forth rivalry with a player? Well. Hardened. Thinks that to heart and does so so now you have both teams saying don't want the guy but. The NBA grades, All these guys they look at every call these guys make. And they give them grades and the reason you see new officials in the league. Every year is the if you great out in the Great Una curve you great out on the bottom five percent you're out of the League. And they bring in somebody else and give them a chance so. These guys are great at every year. Scott Foster is in the top ten percent almost every year they grade these guys, and if he stays there, then if he stays in the top ten percent, he's GonNa keep getting playoff games. You know one thing that came to me last night as watching the game John so as I was watching the Houston. Okay see game. If I, don't plan to have any kids in the world should be grateful for that. I don't plan to have any. But if I did. For boy I think I like legance Allot L. G. U. E. N.. T. Z., legance I think is it German? I think it's German. Yeah. From Germany said Dork word that guy come from. Getting aware you know where you came from Arizona State, oh? Yeah. Yeah, drafted it's rare that. James Harden gets outscored by a fellow sun? Devil. Points a game seven. By somebody age twenty, one or younger in NBA postseason history. It is now Lou dort he's. Oh. Isn't Canadian yeah. He was born in Montreal to Haitian parents interesting move to Canada from Saint Mark when they were around twenty one years old but he grew up in, Montreal. was a soccer goalkeeper. But his brothers talked him into playing basketball when he got older and he's just run with it ever since. What? Is a lot like Anthony Davis. Three. Yeah. When he was a sophomore in high school. He was only five eleven. Oh. Had A growth spurt when she was a sophomore in high school, he was only six one. Any. Good. Nine inches his last three years of high school. All right coming up next John. Actually, before we even do that. Remember something we say today will be on the pop quiz tomorrow at Three Fifteen, we are giving away a brand new twenty twenty one, Mazda C. X thirty from John Patterson it OC Mazda. Fact that sports is back he celebrating the fact that we're back in mid days and we're giving away a brand-new Mazda tomorrow three fifteen. If you know all five answers one about each show this week, you will win one hundred dollar gas card plus one of only four keys that could start the twenty twenty one mazda, C, x thirty on September the fourteenth so good luck pay attention to everything coming up next what Paul Pierce said about, Jaanus. Is it fair. That's coming up next for you may NYASALAND SEVENTEEN ESPN seven, ten ESPN Mason in Ireland. Alright. King of the teas as I am I'm the king of the tease John Nobody tease better than me. Well, you botched wine a minute is. What Paul Pierce said about Yoenis, it's actually what Richard Jefferson said about Yoenis and Toco after last night's game. He said quote Janas might be a pippin there I said it. He needs his Jordan. What do you think? Well, first of all, did you see Pippen's response guy saw pippen said I'm not youngest I don't know back to back league VP's he will in a matter of days and he's not me the question is who were you as a player? Well, Richard Jefferson is now paid to give opinions. Yes I have no problem with RJ giving his opinion on this. I disagree with Richard In this case I think Jaanus. Is Closer to Jordan any needs a pippen. You Know I. Think Jordan I think of if you're. If you are building a team Jaanus is you're a right he needs a be. He doesn't. He's not a be. Yeah. Well, you know what sucks is we're agreeing on everything today I. We'll keep. We'll. Keep talking. Now I feel exactly the same way. First of all I think it's it's kind of disrespectful to Scotty Pippin. WHO's one of the greatest players to ever play the game where I disagree with that? You do yeah. Because I think it's a compliment to pippin. I think it's saying that. Jordan didn't win any titles without him. In, other words that he was critical to the process, I didn't take it the way you took it I. Think. I. Honestly. The the opinion based in Janas can't do it by himself. He needs another top fifty player and that's what pippen was. Right I agree I just think it makes pippen seem like a less than. As a less than like you're a B., why anybody who says that didn't watch the bulls correct has was a not mace. You've heard the phrase lockdown defender he was and you can ask anybody who played in the league. He was the best. Okay. That team had Rodman. Jordan. And Pippen, they were all defensive guys. But Pippen was the guy that could just lock you up I. Mean it you couldn't score on them. And, and so that's if that allowed Rodman to rebound that allow Jordan to be Jordan. You could just take the other teams best player and take them out of the game with Pippen defensive and offensive he was really good come on is twenty five years old he's been a leak seven years Lebron didn't win is I ring until he was twenty seven and had been in the League for nine years Jordan when his first wrinklies twenty-eight there you go. So this is all like prejudgment. We don't know your goal developing as a player although let's talk about this though..

"Get to be master and be a highly competitive athletes like on sorry. Bill found a way for pets. Thinking was Zinn when he won the championship in New York Lord the Championship at New York. I mean he did. They've been living off that ever since. That's all the health verse. The first Culminates and ends with Scottie. Pippen trader bust and that time in the documentary was the in those like trade. Scotty I was very taken brought of. They can get make this year work and we know how it is now they do but I guess foreparts ahead of a Su parts in the CAM. What are you looking most forward to seeing in the documentary? I mean so much. I'm very much looking for to the Dennis Rodman episode which was three yes. I watched that made for TV bio bio pic back in the day in looking at Dennis Rodman in twenty twenty. You know the way we think about things that I think is gonNA greatness can be so when there's more to North Korea did trump. I'd forgotten about that. You gotta remember. This is the year. He's doing professional wrestling during the fines former member. Nwea OH he's on WB television during the finals his match against General. Please Carl Malone. He won right. I'm not GonNa Bibit moment in his territory. Speaking of I'm also looking forward to Scotty pippin ruining Carl Malone at the free throw line telling him he doesn't deliver on Sunday and there's a lot that's looking forward to the most is selling holiday for the most. I two things before we get to that. I'm really see how Jordan legitimately feels management. Fourteen minutes fourteen minute. We're GONNA stab support you when they took him out. And there's like thirty seconds left in there tied or something impacts and the shot over Louis Jordan shoots up leader in a playoff that same year. The playoff just Bravo Ravi Cima. But the thing. I'm looking forward to most entire documentary. It's small and it is petty and it goes beyond even my love of Jordan stories or might disdain for Doesn't capacity this day because the biggest looking forward to the most is yes. We all short the shot Jordan Universal. How'd that shot Michael Easter up? Rodman stole the ball from Carl notes. Written Kroth Working Rodman Jordan swipes. Because Carl Malone's never met Opportunity to come up big where he's ever come not come up short. I love watching like that was fun things that they I was during dock near a podcast if you an MVP. When Michael was playing he made it a point to hurt you in the playoffs. Yeah in the greatest that is will always be Akeem dismantling Dennis Rodman Dennis Robinson David Robinson my bat. It's if you don't know talking back from two young first of all God bless you second of all just what just go watch a King clips on Youtube. I mean that's another thing but the key like mentioned in the document keep up looking Ducati's I mean man he goes so good so good even asthmatic. Sarah but none of Michael Jordan and it's really cool to have encapsulation kind of you know bearing all that out before we go. You must think you're like me grew up in the Jordan era. But you've come over to the side of Lebron's the grids will time. Are we doing? What do you mean cessation strong as a unit or folding? I think the Broncos fans are okay through two or go through two. I'm annoyed with Kobe stance. Kobe need phonebook. That yeah like the guy. You're covering copy of it. That's cool. Are we forgetting or are we not seeing again? How ridiculous and efficient Jordan was it was. We watched Kobe on a lot of mazing. And then you want to play it. Looks like he's just like a better version of Kobe. In the you just not yet. That's it co it was Jordan split. Let's say things about Kobe Bryant? This is the limits of guests. That's fine they can come on. Man. Thank you for watching the first shoe. I'm certain Los Angeles will be here every Tuesday to break the next to last dance for the next five weeks. "Though. I mean there's rape fascinating eight roundtable of MBA experts discussed what it would take for. The Brian Catch Jaanus in the MVP race and the answers ranged from needing to petition the League to include the playoffs or the award to Lebron is actually right on the heels of the Greek freak due to his impressive plus minus differential Bach Sports and media analyst. Crispus are joining us this morning but Shannon. Because we're talking about Lebron and you gotta look on your face. I'll start with you on catchy on his and win. And who would you be a kid? You're not in the front of the if you did. You know what I I gotta hear this. I love when people say they love analytics and they love third level stats until you get to the third level stats. And they don't support their argument. You know what I'm saying. Everybody says I want the truth but people don't really want the truth Chris because it would destroy their lugers. This illusion that all yacht if he's running away with this thing but you get the real plus minors and it within your teammates in the team. You're playing you're not even close. Lebron James has ten point two Yonathan seven point eight so the gap from Lebron on the court to Winnie Li to win. Janas court to win. He leaves clearly. I wouldn't even say this but I told Chris I'll camera. Our regularly routed to go I was figuring is stronger. I agree that was going to take the oath. What I'm talking about real quick on it. Would YOU BELIEVE GOLDEN STATE BY FIVE? Games has the worst record in all of basketball by five games. In how bad they throw. She's who I know exactly dynasty and now they're way worse like when you when you look at you look at the story. All season has been who has been what nobody saw this coming crew. Would you have Chris at forty seven? We into Lakers you would you. Oh I had them around fifty three same as you know all the route Pity has fifty six as you are down by Kansas. Forgive by he tried to give it to get to go to sixty. I asked him you know couple of weeks ago. You WanNa do six nine backed off. This is all revisionist up. Will you look at you? Look at Lebron his look. There's no way you know this is that Lebron. Does this team without. The books are playoff team without Yana. Now they might not be sixty games like they're going to wear they get close to seventy with it. You know goodwill's even with all this Lakers team. They're not going to the play. Offs not even called the agency. So I don't even know what the discussion heels seventy is over skill. I hear seventeen really has nothing. No twenty five and a half ten and a half ten point seven and eight on in the West because you took the Christmas television becoming on. He hit the East hearing aid. Now we in the West we the best in the West and the creek. Don't WanNa give me no look. Let me add before I. I'm GonNa Destroy Your argument. I love the Brian. I'm like this is just obvious. Milwaukee you said a playoff team in the West Without Janas. Are they a playoff team in the West without? Yanni's no okay take Davis and the rest of them without Lebron and put them in the East there a playoff team. You know that in fact they're fighting for home court advantage in the east. They definitely playoff times. They probably they probably like the Cleveland. Foresee because the four five against indy. Shout out to Lebron James. He truly is having a phenomenal year. I was talking with Steve. The researcher you know before I came on and we couldn't totally verify it but I feel I am ninety nine point nine percent. Sure this Lebron's going to lead the league in assists that no player ever in their seventeenth year has led the League in any significant category right right. So that's John Stockton Bleed all time leader. Who played like one thousand nine hundred twenty years later? His last year leading the League in assists with his twelfth year so this is truly phenomenal. You give him technically technically. Because we know he's played a lot of point guards as Holkar but technically switches to a new position so many years he would beat. Mvp But this case is just cut and dry number one. Janas has the better traditional stats. Twenty nine point seven points a game. The Lebron Twenty five in four fewer minutes a night mind you. Thirteen point seven rebounds to Lebron seven point seven. Lebron has got him in assist. John is still get your six assists. Lebron is highest higher field. Goal percentage the whole nine yards analytical analytics. Yanni's has the highest P. R. Player efficiency rating of all turning up thirty two point two of all time. We'll has the next two four single season Second Inter Jordan as the fourth and Lebron has the fifth and a different year. Lebron right now is ninth in the League. Npr second on his own team. So those are those are there's more analytics the real plus minus. So you got that. Then you got the fact that Jaanus is arguably in addition all too often this arguably the best defensive player in the League. The Best Defensive Player on the best team could win defensive player of the year. Then you got the team's success their pace to win seventy one games. The only two teams to win more than that. We know the the warriors in two thousand sixteen the Bulls in two thousand nine hundred ninety six the bulls had three hall of Famers Rodman Jordan and Pippen though the warriors had at least two in Clay Steph and probably draymond right. He'll probably end up get this year. Don't help him but you're probably get for the player of the year three titles. I'll tell you what a gold medal Whitney on that. Two Thousand Sixteen okay. So he's probably a hall of Fame Three Hall of famers. Then they're winning by twelve point two points a game. They're only two teams have won by more points per game. The seventy two lakers. Who won thirty three straight and had will jerry west and Gail Garage Three Hall of famers? Yeah then the seventy one Milwaukee Bucks who had Oscar Robertson and Kareem abdul-jabbar by this nude is doing it with Chris Middleton no no sadism Khris Middleton but he does not have a second superstar. Lebrons got a D. and Yanni's in audit teams in Chris Lane. He just made back all star teams. He's leading this league at forty four percent from the three point line. He is a second star but nobody gives him. He's a starless star. Nobody nobody even gives superstar. No okay okay. So I get to go star Star but come light. So there's an and this is the same argument that help Lebron win his two in. Vp's in Cleveland when they were sixty one games in sixty six games because he who was the sector Mo Williams you know so it was like he's doing it Kinda by himself. Mo- made all star teams with Lebron Derrick. Rose where he wanted and Chicago's loses second guy. He's Guy Alan. Iverson where he wanted with Philadelphia. Okay is the second so this is a formula. We've used. I've been voting for twenty five years. I'm sorry it's I think even you agree with me. Now it's just over. I mean okay I just jiggle. Give them my turn to break the tie. I give you this in. P. E. R. which is the ultimate test to me. I've got Janas running away with the all time best in. I got Lebron Eleven. I don't know what your style one to eleven. That's this yes right nat right here right now. That's a significant gap and I've got jaanus number one in the NBA and defensive wind shares. So when you're setting the all time record with your offensive production and your number one in defense. That's hard to fight okay. Well now my bottom line is I believe Lebron James will win the MVP real it is it always about heismans MVP's or storyline narratives narratives here. We go what happened with Janas last year. Everybody voted for him as the runaway. Mvp and he wins his first one and did he pay back all of his supporters. Who voted for him in the playoffs? He did not. He came up many many small he. They won the first two games against Toronto and they lost four straight and uttering want to bore you with the stats but his stats went into toilet. In the last four games they built the wall and he could not break through the wall. He showed a huge severe. Achilles heel of a weakness. He can't shoot it beyond eight or ten feet this year. He's trying to better that okay. So it was such a letdown off his first. Mvp season. I think in hearts of hearts of voters maybe not your heart. It's going to be hard to vote him aback. Tabacchi. Mvp which is a huge thing in NBA history. It's a big deal to go back to back Steph. Did IT Steve. Nash did okay all right so be careful with this because the Lebron story in your seventeen is a great one I give into that because Carl Malone one at age thirty five an MVP and he was slightly older than Lebron is when he was in his fourteenth so this is seventeenth season. And I give you this. He has been phenomenal given what I thought he would or wouldn't be. He has had a huge bounce back and he actually his early season campaign of Hashtag washed. King served him beautifully because it set everybody up for. I'm not the wash king. I'm just the king. I'm back right so did that purposely go the backlash from that became a Goodlatte. What you remember this. He kept showing them lowlights last theatre last year. But I'm saying well you look pretty washed. Your you know who the guy for the Knicks. That block the shot. Mario has one hundred over right so just for the record. This is a man who still Lebron. A lousy free throw shooter. And and no better than average. From three point fact he's below average in the rankings of three point beyond again he's supposed to be. He's a high volume three point shooter. So given that it you know it. It kills me that we're having this discussion but I'm giving into it because I know so many in the media love this man. They love what he does off the floor. They love him as the face. Not only the Lakers but of the NBA. They loved the speech that he gave two nights. Kobe past and all that together is fairy tale storybook narrative. So you ask. John is should win it. Well it Lebron it should. That was over in the Hayes in his barn. He's already done it but remember they have walk as the eighth hardest closing schedule. The Lakers have the nineteenth hardest. So I think Lebron can make a lot of hey down the stretch and you know the you know the voters I not voters. I don't think the voters will be swayed just about a story. I mean I think that's part of it when it's when things are close. I just don't think it's that close in again. I'd Lebron's clearly second. There's no doubt about that but I just I mean team. Success individuals that success both sides of the floor. What I got a little best offense in the best defense is hard work. I theoretically analytic when he's not the best off. It's you're GONNA use week. Chris thank you for being here. We actually gets over right. You made waves before the All star game when he didn't pick James Harden for his team because he wanted someone who would pass him the ball. We all remember when he said that..

He he truly is having a phenomenal year. I I was talking with Steve. The researcher you know before I came on and we couldn't totally verify it but I feel I am ninety nine point nine. Percents sure this Lebron is gonNA lead the League in assists that no player ever in their seventeenth year has led the league in any significant katter. Right right so that's John. Stockton all time leader in this. Who played like nine thousand nine hundred twenty years laid? Here's last year leading. The League in this was his year so this is truly phenomenal. You give him technically technically. Because we know he's played a lot of point guards Holkar but technically switches to a new position so many years he would beat. Mvp But this case is just cut and dry number one. Janas has the better traditional stats. Twenty nine point seven points a game. Lebron twenty five and four fewer minutes a night. Mind You star team points. Seven rebounds to Lebron Seven Point Seven Lebron Guide demint assists but still get your six assists. Lebron highest higher field goal percentage the whole nine yards analytical analytics. Yon Is has the highest P. E. R. Player efficiency rating of all time. Yeah Thirty two point zero two of all time. We'll have the next two four single season Senator Jordan as the fourth and Lebron has the fifth in a different year. Lebron right now is ninth in the League. Npr second on his team. So those are the those it is more analytics the real plus minus. So you got that. Then you got the fact that this is arguably in addition to off this arguably the best defensive player in the League. The Best Defensive Player on the best team could windy physically or to you. Then you got the team. Success THEIR PACE to win seventy one games the only two teams to win more than that we know. The warriors in two thousand sixteen the Bulls in twenty thousand nine hundred ninety six. The Bulls had three hall of famers Rodman Jordan and Pippen. The warriors had at least two in clan steph probably draymond. You'll probably end up this year. Don't help him but he'll probably get three titles at twenty sixteen okay. So he's probably a hall of fame famous then they're winning by twelve point two points a game. The only two teams have won by more points per game. The seventy two Lakers who won thirty three straight and had will jerry west and Gail goodrich three hall of famers. Yeah then the seventy one Milwaukee Bucks who had Oscar Robertson and Kareem abdul-jabbar by Nudist. Doing it with Chris. Middleton knows no say don't Khris Middleton he Yang All's does not have a second superstar lebrons got ad any honest in audit teams. In Chris Lane he just made back to back all star teams. He's leading this league at forty four percent from the three point line. He is a second star but nobody gives him. He's a starless star. Nobody nobody even get superstar. No okay okay. So He's GonNa go star. He's a he's a nice star but come like so. There's an and this is the same argument that helped the browns win his two in. Vp's in Cleveland when they were a sixty one games in sixty six games because he who was his second star Mo Williams. He's doing it Kinda by himself. Mo- made all star teams with Lebron Derrick. Rose where he wanted in Chicago's WHO's his second guy had no second guy. Alan Iverson where he wanted. We're Philadelphian okay. Is the second guy. So this is a formula we've used. I've been voting for twenty five years. I'm sorry it's I think even you agree with me now. No this is over. I mean I just WANNA get my turn to break the tie break desire. I'll give you this in. P. E. R. which is the ultimate test to me. I've got Janos running away with the all time. Best Lebron Eleven. I don't know what your style but one to eleven. That's vis yes right now right here right now. That's a significant gap and I've got Janas number one in the NBA defensive wind chairs. So when you're setting the all time record with your offensive production and your number one in defense. That's hard to fight okay. Well my bottom line is I believe Lebron James will win the MVP real it. Is it always about heismans? Mvp Ori Storyline narrow learn lettuce narratives. Here we go. What happened with your honest last year? Everybody voted for him as the runaway. Mvp and he wins. Is I one? And did he pay back all of his supporters. Who voted for him in the playoffs? He did not he came up many me small Lee. They won the first two games against Toronto and they lost four straight and uttering want to bore you with the stats but his stats went into toilet. In the last four games they built the wall and he could not break through the wall and he showed a huge severe Achilles heel of a weakness. He can't shoot it beyond eight or ten feet this year. He's trying to better that okay. So it was such a letdown off his first. Mvp season. I think in hearts of hearts of voters maybe not your heart. It's going to be hard to vote him aback tobacco. Mvp which is a huge thing in NBA history. It's a big deal to go back to back Steph. Did IT Steve. Nash did it. Okay all right so be careful with this because the Lebron story in your seventeen is a great one I give in to that because Carl Malone one at age thirty five an MVP and he was slightly older than Lebron when he was in his fourteenth. So this is seventeenth season and I give you this. He has been phenomenal given what I thought he would or wouldn't be. He has had a huge bounce back and he actually hit his early season campaign of Hashtag washed. King served him beautifully. Because it set everybody up up for. I'M NOT THE WASH KING. I'm just the king. I'm back right so we did that. Purposely will it's the backlash from that became a good laugh. I would watch you real Jimmy. You remember this. He kept showing them low light less theater gear last year. What I'm saying. Well you look pretty wash here and you know who the guy for the Nick. That block the shot. Yeah Mario Zone. One hundred over so just for the record. This is a man who's still Lebron a lousy throw shooter and no better than average. From three point. In fact he's below average in the rankings of three point. Okay again. He's supposed to be. He's a high volume three point shooter so given that it it it. It kills me that we're having this discussion but I'm giving into it because I know so. Many in the media loved this man. They love what he does off the floor. They love him is the face. Not only the Lakers but of the NBA. They loved the speech that he gave to. What was over? Unites. Kobe past and all that together is fairy tale storybook narrative. So you believe John is should win it. Lebrons over in the Hay is in his barn. He's already done it but remember they have. Milwaukee has the hardest closing schedule. The Lakers have the nineteenth hardest. So I think Lebron can make a lot of hey down the stretch and you know. The voters are not voters. I don't think the voters will be sway just about a story. I mean I think that's part of it when it's when things are close. I just don't think that closing again. Lebron's clearly second. There's no doubt about that but I just I mean team. Success individual success both sides of the floor. What is it best? Offense in? The best defense is hard. Well we we write up. I theoretically GonNa get the analytic. But he's not the best player he gives. Chris thank you for being here. We actually. It's over right you okay. Thank you. Ohio state defensive end chase young. Turn some heads at.

"Totally Louis changed and expanded the popularity of the League at all of us have benefited from that impact That led Ed Kobe's like like those other goes. I was GONNA start here but I decided I'd close here because I thought I had the conversation would would be heavy because it is and I I wanted at least to have a smile hopefully on your face and certainly it would be on mine because what I what I hold. My hand is box. Score is from December Seventeenth Nineteen ninety-six which I believed would have been the first time and that you would the bulls played against Kobe. And Steve. I'm looking at this box and the people on the floor that night. Shaquille Byron Scott. Colby Hobie Bryant Scottie Pippen Rodman Jordan perish coup coach. You you by the way with Pippen and Jordan and coach Combined for ninety six that one They just leave it at that. Yeah they they. They had the ninety six euro for to that night's eve and you didn't shoot it three. I'm trying to figure out why you weren't hunting the three that night Steve. I look at these numbers and obviously I have the benefit of seeing them. Is there anything about that night. One of of a thousands and thousands of games in your professional life that that you recall specifically I remember afterwards the photos of of Kobe and Michael Together. You know there were there were there. Were you know maybe weather stories in the newspaper the next day whatever. It was But I just. I remember seeing the photos of Kobe. Who had idolized Michael? Obviously growing up. asking him during the game for you're for advice and at the weather's at the foul line or and I remember seeing that and I remember assumed photos but that's the extent of it. I don't remember anything about the game. I don't remember who WanNa one. I don't remember how many points Kobe or the Bulls out. I mean exactly. I didn't expect you necessarily given the thousands and thousands you play and so I have the game story. It was it was Phil talked about. Being a big win was one twenty nine. When he threw one twenty three the Bulls when I shift given the benefit of hindsight I mean just to recognize the type of absolute greatness? That was on the floor that evening. And you've been party to that in so many different roles throughout throughout your time and I just that's why as we go back and it's it's amazing not a look at that. That's where the the the trajectory of career for for Kobe began. And I don. I don't know necessarily barely Steve at that on that night or even in the beginning that people would have imagined that that he'd become this sort of the statesman in this this role model that he became for the future generations nations. I think maybe not is that reasonable. Oh Yeah I don't think anybody could have imagined That that he would go on to become he did Except for him he he believed right right and I. I guess that's all that matters. Is that that was the path that he intended to charter. And then he did You've been gracious with your time and I realized that you've got your head. Coaching responsibilities to tend to hear but but on on the way out as a final thought is is there a specific image memory moment that crystallizes the way you think of Kobe Bryant Uh on court competitor. I do have one of my lasting memories and one thing. I've been asked a few times the last couple of days you know. What's my memory of Kobe? And that's it's it's it's similar to. What's your memory of Michael and the point with those guys is that there is there is no one memory? 'cause they they were. They were putting on a show every single single night so literally. Every night there was something to tomorrow at What made them special? But I do have a memory of Kobe in a the West finals when I was general manager and Phoenix and Alvin Gentry was head coach and we made a really good run in the playoffs and series was tied to to KNOWS THREE TO LAKERS. Were up three two and we came back to Phoenix for game six. We had lead most of the game and coby. We'll be hit a series of impossible shots right in front of the Phoenix Bench and that that completely turned the game and on a couple of them he called me literally fell back into the bench and he he slapped Alvin. Gentry behind twice and Alvin in Auburn just shook his head. Just didn't you know all you do is marvel and smile. You know anybody else would probably would have been you. No Alvin would have been ready to fight. But at that point you just say you just tip your cap. And for that game always stands out and the Lakers won that Game and then went on and and one one their last title against the Celtics and seven that next series and and that not one that one still stands out to me. You've got games to prepare for. You got a film to watch in place to draw up and all the rest and that's more important than this but I'm I'm appreciative. Steve felt that It was important to share these memories with with the folks that will listen here and I'm really really grateful. I always appreciate it when when our paths cross the next time I hope it's Talking about a whole lot more fun than this well I appreciate it. I always love your perspective sky and that's one of the reasons I wanted. Oh come on. It was because I knew you'd have a unique perspective on this in a in a some thoughts that would would be relevant and You know I think the the one thing I would wanna add is that You know nine people died on this uh-huh and they you know we're of course reflecting on the life of Kobe because that's what we do. We're in the sports world But you know I'm just thinking about all those families involved And all the lives lost and the dreams dashed in just the difficulty that so many the people are now facing as they look at life. Moving forward told his family obviously but so many of the other families as well and I think income you know they should know we're all thinking about them and and just adjust hoping that they're able to cope and and Just focal nothing. But the Best Fox for them. That's well said. And that's something that we sit on sportscenter that these are names that you perhaps won't know as well but their families are every bit As devastated overstated as as the Bryant family. And we as best you can you. You keep positive thoughts you wrap them up in in in your in your in your prayers for them that they can somehow get through this and that's the way as unfortunately we know loss in our life in that you lean on your faith you lean on your family you lean on your friends and and hopefully days get better and you move on because we're here and that's what we're meant to to continue on and and that's what we do Steve I appreciate you always in. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts about what we do here and until the next time you stay well all right you too thanks God. I made no secret the fact that I'm an enormous fan of Steve Kerr because like Kobe Bryant. What I appreciate talk about Kobe? I appreciate about Steve If you ask him a question. He gives a serious thoughtful consideration and provides an answer. Not Every player and coach is as I start to say equipped but I don't WanNa insult people's intelligence. Not Not all of them are. They're not equipped with the interest to answer your question because they're not interested. Ah But a guy like Steve. Like Kobe's would give you real thought and real answer and I think the depth of his understanding of Kobe was on display there and I'm grateful for him. Share that perspective. Now look at our business you try to figure out how to segue pivot from one thing to another in a lot of times you can do it fairly smoothly but this is abrupt as you can as you can make. I mean as as hard left turn slash u-turn as you can to the Super Bowl which we will talk about now and it all comes down to this super bowl fifty four forty niners chiefs. Who's going to be hoisting the trophy and spraying champagne? When it's all said and done one team will end their season.

"You get to actually cover NBA basketball now. Kickabout Dow, but see red Fred just called in Jordan, basically doubled down with him. Co-signed it. Get healthy. They're going to be. They're gonna be a player. Okay. I said it's not out. It's not I want to read you. Nick. We're throwing a lot of this is from Fred Hoiberg. I I know we're throwing a lot of makeshift lineups out there. But I don't care. It's not an excuse to not bust your ass. Play hard to give up one hundred twelve points and three quarters. It's unacceptable. I don't care who's on the floor. You have to have some type of resistance. We didn't do that. That's not from last night. That's from Friday where they lost to Charlotte. Okay. Now on Monday, they give ninety two in the first half that's effort. That's not lack of talent. That's not caring. Your thoughts. What you saw last night. This team's not going to go to the playoffs won. Cap is somebody who has watched this team very closely for a decade that was one of the most embarrassing performances? I've seen since I've been here for them to give up the the thing that struck me is, you know, Klay Thompson has got all these three pointers. Looking for every time the other four. Back in the day, Joachim Heinrich. Somebody's gonna knock somebody on their ass, and it didn't happen, and they're just letting him shoot and shoot. And she missed three in a row for he finally knocked down to the record breaker. So. I have always personally liked. Fred Hoiberg immensely. I think he's a really nice guy a caveat that everybody uses I've never felt like he was really the fit here. But guys CNN and talking to him before the games for couple minutes. He, you know, he just he looks like he is so stressed out like he hadn't slept in Amman. He's never had a chance here in no matter. There's going to be the next week is Fred Fred isn't gonna make it. Whether he makes it through the year. He gets fired at some point this season. He's not I would be stunned if he is the coach to begin next season. And Fred will always the people who support Fred while we safe he never had a chance. Agreed. He never had the roster that he needed in order to to play ball the right way. And the detractors Fred will say with the roster's he was given he never made them work to their highest potential in. So matter what side you're on when you're giving up ninety two points and a half. I don't care who your point ninety. I looked up at the school runs like ninety two to fifty. It was really really embarrassing and the question now over the bulls is how do you respond moving forward? And you know, you have all these injuries Markkanen importers done Valentine. But the reality is like what's Denzel Valentine going to do. So. I chris. These guys like Rodman, Jordan Pippen grant or sitting. Talk about winning the championship. You're talking about trying to be the lowly a seat in a lowly Eastern Conference, which is wildly different destination than what you're trying to go to. But I want to ask you when you talk about how that happens. We'll go to the roster like who is going to be that guy. That's going gonna check a Klay Thompson coming through the lane. Try to run off a double screen. They don't have that. But Furthermore, Nick, I'm thinking about what life is like there today. And and who as you look at everyone's up in arms about Bari's post-game comments. What people don't realize that's Jabbar is not a guy that's going to take this personal. Right. Like, that's who he is. That's who he's been right? Like, this is going to be something that he's come in today and go Jimmy Butler on the bulls, exactly in Jordan. What kills me is last year? I watched Bari closely because I was balancing back and forth between Milwaukee in Minnesota, and all these different places. Jabbar wasn't very good last year either coming off an ACL injury. So the. Thought is okay. You come off that injury. You get your rehab in. And maybe you do better. But you bar. He's always been one of the worst defenders in basketball. And if he's not shooting. Well, he he's not helping you at all. So he's not gonna give you a veteran voice. Exactly. He's and he's not going to be the guy who comes in. And goes, hey, what the hell we doing the weirdest part about seen this group now? And the speaks to the point about roster construction. I don't see that guy on the roster. I've never thought Zach LeVine was that type of player who's gonna come in. And be like, okay. Like, we're not going to accept this. Because usually the guy the guy that is that kind of player is either a grizzled veteran that's earned that recession. Lock role. Would you resign? Joe Joe joking. I said he's physically done. No, no, no he needed clarification on. Joe gave heart and soul to this team in that moment guys aren't in. If you're a bulls fan there were so many awful parts about that night last night to see Joe get a standing ovation. Does a first time he had been back since since his last game here. It was awesome. And it meant a lot to him. He's standing there. He's he's putting his hand to his heart. He knew what he did for this team. And he knew how much the city respected him. But no as far as setting a culture, you sit a culture by the coaching staff that's in place by the roster that's constructed by the front office. The bulls have all these injuries. And that is absolutely an issue in an excuse for what's going on. The reality though, is you haven't seen the type of growth that you'd want to see in this all ties back in my mind to to Fred for four years, you're going I what is the identity of this team and four years later after he got here. Nobody knows what it is. They're gonna they're gonna try to score a lot and there are flashes. Certainly where you go. Okay. That's what it's supposed to look like defensively for them to give up that kind of performance and they've given up a ton of points. All ready this year 'cause they're missing a lot of guys. But to do that. That's when you start looking around and going what in the world, they got. But yeah. As you look a little deeper into that too. And I look I'll be the first one he knowledge I'm trying to throw excuses on the wall to see if they stick. These are not used to walk and big minutes and the roster so thin. I mean, look at the window Carter juniors that used to an NBA game. And and what goes into Chandler Hutchison? Justin, holidays become a kief option on this team. So maybe it let's write him off with it. He he could probably handle a campaign. Zach LeVine justed holiday your to true guys that are used to minutes. Yeah. Your true pros. That's it. Not many people knew who Justin holiday was a season ago. Like, so you're looking at Zach LeVine who still new at this because he's been embattled with injury. And by the way, he's been magnificent. I thought even last night I thought the way he competed. I was imprac. Yes. Yeah. He did. Even a press with him last night. There's one guy, but just it's the perfect storm, Nick. And why I'm willing to say the mantra of cap here and say, let's just relax a little bit. It's early on. These guys aren't going to change everything. But I do think we've got large market in at least commu buckets to mass this poor defense and uninspired play. It can do a little bit a little bit. Can't it naked view. It's seen somebody come out. And not clay. I'm not talking about punch him in the face. I'm talking about checking out out of shot. Hey, dude. It's not going to happen on my watch. Not getting a free. Look every time. Sorry. This isn't a charity game if they had done that and battled and competed, and they just said we got our talent than I. But we left everything out there. Okay. I get it. But when I got a coach tell me on Friday. I don't care what the lineup is that efforts unacceptable, and I get the same thing on Monday. That's a problem. And that's. In pro sports us when you start looking to make a coaching change xactly. That fortunately, that's that's what happens when when you have guys that clearly either aren't listening are or aren't taking that message that you hear pre-game in an impractical and implementing it during the game. That's when you get a coaching change because you can't have in the NBA that kind of effort, and that was the saddest part for me having watched this group for so long. You're seeing a worriers group that is supremely talented. It's gonna go down guys if they stay healthy is one of the greatest teams of all time this year, they are incredible. And when they played their best nobody nobody is touching them. But for the bulls to go through the motions, and again when Klay Thompson trying to set the record and guys just letting him run off screens one after another that if I'm watching that tape. That's got a burn you up inside in. Listening to some of the comments that were coming out of Arkham. Forget you Bari's minute of nothingness after the game guys. Just like. Yeah. You right. Have been doing the same thing who's gonna get angry. It's just like I've got my name twenty-five game. It's all good like somebody needs to step up. And I don't think that personality within the construction this roster. Is there right now? I gotta ask you, this is depressing. All right. You're back here. This is exciting. We're happy to have you back here. Dave Letterman said it passes you sat down he said, you're covering the Rolling Stones man. Like, you're on the road with the stones. You're covering golden slaves. It like you gotta tell us. What is the reception like on TV last row Chicago out of it? Let's take this experience away. What is this experience like for you? It's the nearest dynasty to the Chicago Bulls. That's going right now, Shangri, LA, buddy. Truly. That is what being around this team is like because everywhere you go. They are the show. Yeah. And and it's it's interesting to me guys because I saw the glimpses of it last season. But especially in China, I was lucky enough to go. See the words and the Timberwolves and China last year, it everywhere, they went people went on cours in the only comparison having listened to enough stories from people who were here during the bulls dynasty is when Michael and Scottie and everybody was was doing their thing here twenty years ago. Just on a different level. And last night's a perfect example. And it's happened three times in the last week you go to what should be a regular game in something unbelievable happens. So last Wednesday there at oracle arena stuff goes off for fifty one point three quarters, and you're just looking spurt ability and anybody who is who who is lucky enough to have a chance to go to oracle this season. Take advantage of it because the atmosphere within that arena. When Steph curry gets rolling is unlike anything I've seen covering the legal you recommend like if I have a chance to get out there. Hit them up and make a ticker, right? We'll make it truly like if you have the chance to see them play at oracle because they move into the chase center in San Francisco next. That's right. If you have the chance to see him play in Oakland this year. Do what are those guys? Like like, are they are they accessible is the success go onto their heads or these guys manageable professionals. They're the most successful team, Jordan I've ever dealt with WPRO sports. And part of that is the winning. It's much easier to talk into be open. When you're when lilacs in your shirt, exactly. But you've got personalities that enjoy the spotlight. I mean, Draymond loves to talk and loves to be in the limelight. And Kevin Durant. Every day comes over talks for ten or fifteen minutes. I mean that so much of how were shaped by our personal experiences with where we come from. I came from a time with the bulls where you know, Derek was there grows was extremely accessible unbelievably accessible in the first few years of his career. He got hurt in and then for a couple of seasons to try to talk to Derrick for a couple of minutes. If you try to seventy. You know, they just they the philosophy within the organization, and depending on who you believe part of that was Tibbs it was to shield Derek in and not use him as a distraction for everybody else. In in the circumstances were different because they weren't coming off a title..

"Percent he's shooting thirty three percent against ricky rubio who's not an elite defender in rookie donovan mitchell now tonight if he drops forty five and saves the day you're gonna rush twitter told you so but you won't be telling me anything you'll be confirming what i've always said you coddling him you'll be protecting him for his first non awful fourth quarter i assume the win tonight and i presume hill at least be stomach i mean he is not only been bad in the fourth he's been weird didn't take a shot one made basket in the last three i mean utah plays good defense they're not michael jordan's bulls they're not the bad boy pistons it's ricky rubio joe ingles donovan mitchell derrick favors let's not make this into pippen rodman jordan this is the mvp now chris bussard came on our show not long ago and said all casey knows he's got a problem late his weakness and okay see knows it is the last few minutes of the game the decision making they know it yeah they know it they know now they still love him obviously as they should but they understand that is the thing that if they could if they could change anything about him it would be how you handle the decision making in those last couple of minutes because you don't play the last two minutes like you played minutes twenty four and twenty five and i'll say this again he's been very unique and weird and odd in this series he rushed onto the floor during a fight okay you can't do that that's a they find him ten thousand dollars generally that's an automatic one game suspension the nba said okay well a little fuzzy ambiguous will find you ten thousand dollars what are you doing dude ever since the malice at the palace you can't do that everybody in the league knows that you're a ten year veteran come on dude you can't be a bizarre move and you.

"I wonder one one small follow up i have i wonder where if you know where is china add on this meeting i mean we know that to some degree they're willing to work with us on north korea but added at certain points it also seems like they may be propping up the north koreans on the other side where where does trying to fall on this whole meeting if i were to fast on my armchair now outside the intelligence i'd say that china china on one hand they appreciate anything that moves us away from war because china prizes stability above all so moving away from war is a good thing but because they price stability the stakes of a trump are so high that i'm sure that they are concerned that the proper gems work must be done makes us a success so there's that i would also say that for them it's always about the longterm game they're looking at this crisis this longstanding crisis on north korean that this ends in a way that chinese interests and so that that means basically that the cranston cannot be in few opponents of the united states from their perspective so we need to be constantly insuring that our aim is simply the security of the american people and the security of our allies have three in japan that we understand that we have no emissions beyond that but he telegraphing that china the whole time but the other piece of doing that is that we need to make sure it starts with leadership cannot be engaged in unhelpful rhetoric talks about war being the answer and dictating the terms of this not random insults because that to them shows a lack of seriousness lack of seriousness within conclude a lack of appreciation for stability and then that's it harder and harder to get them to work productively for us chatting with alexandra chandler candidate for congress in massachusetts is third congressional district and national security expert alexandra i can't believe i'm going down this road going to ask this question but we know that kim jong hoon has a good relationship with nba hall of famer dennis rodman yeah i mean kim jong loves the nineties bulls if you send over rodman jordan and maybe phil jackson i think i could get whatever you want from him but.
