"Still have backup plans just in case. Keep it here on WTO for the full details in the minutes ahead. It's ten 18. And with traffic and weather on the 8s, we go to Mary de pompa in the traffic center. All right, John, no matter where you're heading for the most part, things are decent for you, not a lot of incidents, but here's what you need to watch out for. A couple of things were happening on the beltway, outer loop and print George's county approaching the Baltimore Washington Parkway. That crash should actually be clear. Both sides of the Baltimore Washington Parkway feeling delays barely from between Laurel and greenbelt each way could have a work crew not confirmed as of yet, but we do know there's a delay 95 in Maryland beltway to beltway wide open. If we flip the coin into Virginia, it is work that slows the George Washington Parkway, particularly northbound, but they should be in both directions of the Parkway between one 23 and turkey run, single lane to the right, scheduled to get you by these work zones. Now we'll check 95 in Virginia, southbound delays growing out of newington through lord and across the Purple Heart bridge at the aqua Quan, it's all been volume at this point, and then in stretches ahead heading south, dumfries. Again, in Stafford, you'll find some slowdowns north about the same pockets of volume coming north through Fredericksburg and then again through Dale City, newington, but no incidents reported we have a report of a crash in the heart of Richmond as you're coming northbound through Richmond be advised at exit 78 right side is blocked. It is causing a hefty delay of joining from two 95, yes, that does put you beyond as well as joining northbound from one 95 you would be passed. Another alert out of Virginia is on I 81 in Rockingham county. Southbound after the mount Crawford exit two 40 single lane to the right getting by a truck crash. "To luxury SUVs late this year or early next year. John Aaron WTO P news. 9 18 now. Back over to Mary de papa in the traffic center. All right, thanks, Joan, and we will start out traveling where you might find a little volume, no major incidents, but south down 95 in Virginia. The last summertime hurrah could be underway south you'll hit the brakes set into woodbridge and then again, through stretches of Stafford county kind of heavy, easy pass express lanes join in anticipate those to be slow to get in the mix, but that does become the breakaway point, nothing reported incident wise and running well through spotsylvania county, northbound begins to slow and Fredericksburg, and you'll hit the brakes again, Dale City and woodbridge again. It's been all summertime volume. 66 running eastbound toward the beltway and unexpected delay, they have a work zone set up. They block a right lane, three lanes continue straight through to the beltway. There's also a Jersey wall, so if you're taking the outer loop be prepared get far to the right because only a single right lane will get you to the outer loop four 95 south and it is the Jersey wall that separates you. So if you missed that, you'll have to work yourself around using the inner loop, the left exit could get you in the express lanes or continue straight ahead, turn around at route 7, not hard workarounds on an early Saturday morning. 81 travel volumes were running in Rockingham county or if you're running southbound Rockingham county hitting the brakes, the work that was at route 33, that has been cleared on a brighter married to pomp and WTO P traffic All right, let's check out our forecast here with Lauren ricketts. "That's a great point. Yeah, and it's just the thing too is that this is a sport that's long, long been associated with males. Males are dominant players on the Jackie side. It's been that way for years and years and years. Yes, there are women that can do it. But I just think that the sport needs to, I don't give them better, give them more chances. And the ones that they also the ones that want to do it after really fight to fight for it. I mean, Julie Krohn was as combative as any jockey on any circuit that she wrote on. You got to have that feisty. Yeah, so it doesn't matter. I mean, she had it. And she showed she could compete with anybody. They may want to read about it one of the most interesting people in sports history. Go back and read about Robin Smith. This started back in the 70s. He was on the cover of Time Magazine, one of the most beautiful and you'll ever see ended up being married to Fred Astaire and was a great jockey and a trailblazer for women. Anybody wants to read about a fascinating women of sports, read about Robin Smith. The question. Great stuff. It'll happen again. There's no doubt about it, and let's hope it happens sooner rather than later. All right, next question. There is one more anniversary that we need to recognize on today's show. Monday will mark the 30 year anniversary of jockey Carl gambardella winning his 6000th race aboard a horse named nip of jinn at Rockingham park in Salem, New Hampshire. I used to love Rockingham. Which three tracks no longer in existence would you guys love to visit one more time? Timmy? Well, you know, it's kind of sad when these old big buildings just sort of disappear from view and they had so much history to them. I think at the top now it's up to Hollywood park. Which is now home to the LA Super Bowl champion LA rams who I won the bet with Dale, which he's going to have to pay up, but we've already talked about that. I mean, the Hollywood is a place where they had the first breeders cup at 84. And a lot of history in that place, another would hire Leah park in Florida. I remember the old flamingo stakes down there, race one by the likes of Ali and I are slew citation foolish pleasure. And I'm just going to throw this out there and I know Dale Romans will get this question. What famous movie was filmed at Hialeah? The champ, that's one of them, but one even bigger. No, you got me there though. Who else? Let it ride. Let it ride. Really, I thought that was right. Yes, it was. You're right. The champ was also John Voight movie was filmed there with Ricky Schroder. Right. And my third track, I'm going to put stuff like downs. I remember the mass cap there, the great cigar, Seabiscuit, funny side, ran there. Unfortunately, they just had a fire there at the trek this week. I mean, that's just another old relic that stands, but the ghosts of the game still gallop through those old great tracks, so Hollywood park highly and Suffolk for me. Yeah, I mean, those were the obvious racetracks. But you also got a cylinder Calder. Tropical park, Douglas park, another racetrack that was a competitive Churchill downs here at little Kentucky miles park. Green mountain park in green mountain, New Hampshire. Yeah. My father's favorite racetrack in the world was Rockingham park. And we would go there as kids and I like to really remember about his going there and Tuesday nights they would put up a boxing ring and everyone would box outside the track catching and the track kitchen was so popular that set outside the grounds and the local people would always come and eat there. "Did it pause or no no, it's live. Yeah, no, he's been turning lots of labs. The colleague team as a whole, this is their first full-time Cup Series season. So I'm sure they're soaking up every possible bit of information they can gain from this. Every team is with the new car and everything like that. Yeah, it does seem like Haley's been out there a lot. Yeah, I thought there was something wrong with my feet. But anything out of the ordinary coming from Phoenix? I don't think anything out of the ordinary speeds are just slightly slower, but that comes with the territory when you've got a little bit less horsepower on these mile tracks plus the lower amount of down force. So the cars are on edge this time around. It's not like when they're first doing a huge spoiler low amounts of horsepower, people are like, oh my gosh, this is so terrible. Of course they picked it up four inch spoiler or anything else later on the weekend there. But no, this has been, they're not far off, but they're just a little off on speed, but man, the cars are still on the edge, which is what you want. Yeah, you want these cars to be hard to drive, and I love the fact that they're using one camera and they just push in when they're turns three and four there. And then they pull back and one camera covers the whole track. Well, I think I think what they've done this off season with these tests on YouTube is great because there's not a whole lot every now and again, you get somebody in their little interview somebody in a garage area or something like that. But you don't need a whole lot. We just need something to be able to see what's happening to get us moving through this off season. I think they've done a heck of a job. NASCAR deserves a pat on the back for this. And I hope we see more of this kind of content, whether it be practice sessions that aren't on TV or just something else that's not being broadcast if there's something going on. Give us a live feed. This works good. Yeah, and when you just throw it in the background on your iPad or whatever, and, you know, something happens. You can look more into it. And these cars are loud and so cool to hear these things zooming around all day long to sit at your desk. Right. It's great. Yes. All right, so we have a new penalty system announced by NASCAR and one of the major highlights or low lights if you're a team, I guess, is they can now nullify your postseason eligibility. Yikes. Yeah, that's gonna be a bummer for anybody who tries altering or manufacturing their own parts for this car. Your season is going to be done for. Wow. What other highlights I know L one through L three are the major highlights, right? Yeah, so let's see. Let me pull up the whole thing here. Sounds like they mean business though all of a sudden. Yeah, and it was a pretty extensive update. So in the L one category, which includes failing post weight post race weight requirements, source of your parts, not meeting NASCAR rules, failures and the parts submission process. Those penalties will be the loss of 20 to 75 points to loss of one to ten playoff points. Crew member suspension for one to three races and fines between 25,000 to a $100,000. These are L one penalty. That's big. So now the L two category has been thrown out there. And that's modifications connection parts, violations of engine seal requirements, unapproved alterations to the engine control system wiring, use of unimproved onboard electronics, and that penalty would be the loss of 75 to a 120 points. You're looking at 8 like 40 points to win one of these things. That's three races worth. If you win the race, the loss of ten to 25 playoff points, suspension of one or two crew members for four to 6 races and finds between 100,000 to $250,000. That's a lot. Yeah. But now of course things get really crazy when you go to the L three category, which is new. So brand new. All three. Sit down for this one. Yeah. So counterfeiting or modifying next gen parts, no no, absolutely don't do it, not going to. Engine and fractions and performance enhancements to ECU or EFI violations modifying tires and or fuel and violating the private team testing policy, which this is an important note because my carbon racing actually got busted for this during the end of the season here. They were testing one of their cars at a charity event at Rockingham. It took photos of it and got busted. But if you do this for the next gen car, penalties include the loss of a 120 to a 180 points. The loss of 25 to 50 playoff points suspension of one or two crew members for 6 races. That's a huge chunk of the season. And fines between $250,000 to 500 grand. You also lose postseason eligibility, one race suspension for the entire team. So the car will not even race for an entire race. That's in the event of repeat high level violations. So this is I can't wait. We're seeing some big stuff here, and this is going to be big if somebody decides to tanker with some of this next gen stuff that's coming from these manufacturers. NASCAR stepping in, looking for an additional revenue stream, I think here. Well, and this was the thing though, so when they announced that the parts were becoming for manufacturers, everybody goes, yeah, right. These guys are going to eventually make their own stuff and they're going to take care of things. This really clamps things down, and this makes it where if you decide to make that decision to do so, and you get caught with it, yeah, this is going to be bad. You're going to wish you did not do that. That's what a rule should be. And that's what this rule is. It's a deterrent to keep people from trying to supersede the system that's in place. Now I didn't hear in all of that. You didn't say anything about loose lug nuts at the end of the erase. Yeah, that penalty has been corrected by just if you have a loo slug to have the other race, you didn't make it at the end of the race. Exactly. You're done for the day. In kind of self polices. Yeah, I think your rotors will be pretty messed up. Yeah. If you're not on board with the inside joke, there is only one lug nut this year. Yeah, so you mess a lot..

You know maybe i wasn't own because it was one thirty in the morning right and then there are other days where you feel like you've just got lightning in a bottle and you finish a chapter in your like i did that. I really liked that. Turn out better than i thought it was going to. But just you know i. It's almost this weird combination of a sense of urgency and patients that you have to put together a lot better at the sense of urgency than i am. Patient But i i. I can see why we're related them. Because i have that same issue. And i know what you're talking about it but i i hear that word a lot when ask authors That very question that is. It'd be patient it will get better You will get through it. It may not be on the schedule. You hooked it would be but if you have patients Everything's gonna be fine. "That and i love it because i first of all because i want to go there and make up literally jeanine at the care how you look ovoid i love it i i never need to make up again and then and then i love it not just for the reason that you said the problem solving which i find delicious like i'm always like we don't have time like our gonna get it done for toyota time i can't wait like i love it but also the thing that i like about it is that when you're an actor i mean i do enjoy acting you really are only responsible for caring for yourself kind of what you're gonna do your decisions. Your interactions your inner space. Maybe the other person of the scene. But when you're director you get to take care of everybody you get to encourage everybody and you get to like coach everyone and you get to hopefully empower them all to do great work and you know few. Let's do it. And i. That's i mean that's my default state is pupil pew. I am do remember the cartoons. Your your old like me. December remember the cartoon spike and that was the big bulldog and he had a little puppy friend and the puppy. What are you been. Hey totally take on like so stoked to be there. Yeah i'm like rockingham people like have you had breakfast burrito. Do get a and breakfast rio like flying. They're making them. When i love it. you know like not to put not to sound too pollyannish. But it's remarkable when a dream comes true. Because i i wanted to be a director and i worked very hard to get people to take mysterious right added. It's nice that it's finally starting to pick up some momentum so that that does that squeeze out like the other party your life you know like a social life does it squeeze it out and use it as and are you just okay with that for now. Do you think you'll be okay with that forever. You know. I'm okay with it for now because i feel like it's not permanent you know. Tv specifically is pretty all consuming if you go back to back but actually like. I'm literally about to do this film. And i'm like i. I feel like. I have to call my friends. You're not gonna see me again too late next year. Yeah you know what i mean like. I know it sucks that. I'm going away and bailing on you but like if i come see you. I'm not gonna turn in my homework for my movie. Which like there is nobody. I can turn to be like. It's that guys fall like it's all my fault all on you. It's all on me. So so yes. I do see that and like for example i left. La last november and didn't really.

Infant Sleep With Dr. Harvey Karp
"Everyone. It's martin straight from san francisco today. I'm connected with dr hallway Holly why don't you introduce yourself to our listeners. Shirt thanks martin. so i'm a pediatrician. Practicing in los angeles at practice for many many years out here. And then i'm also an author. I've written a couple of weeks about babies and toddlers and guides to help parents. I'm very happy they've been translated now into about thirty languages. So it's it's helping parents all around the world and then most recently a few years ago created a new type of a baby bed. That's a responsive or robotic baby bed. That improves sleep. Keeps baby safer. Something called snoop awesome well before we dive into this new. And it's all about maybe you can explain what really build the foundation also for your book and what i really the core issues towards you know incense first couple of months. Yeah you bet. so as a pediatrician. I observed that parents were struggling. You know especially these days. Parents don't have a lot of outside help. They may not have extended family around and so crying and exhaustion. Were really weighing on them a lot. And in fact when you look at the numbers. I mean you think crying babies. You think well i mean. It's a nuisance. But i mean how bad is it really but crying. Babies and exhausted parents cost our economies billions of dollars in terms of marital distress postpartum depression. Anxiety car accidents obesity. 'cause you're overeating chris. You're tired and not exercising child abuse neglect the too many visits to the doctor and billions of dollars more in terms of employer cost because of poor productivity and poor retention. You have to recruit people higher errors and accidents and even higher healthcare costs. And so this has been a struggle that has increased over recent years as parents. Are you know have less and less experienced taking care of babies and our way from their extended family and so as a pediatrician. I started observing. That believes could become d-. I mean everybody's known. This that by rockingham attrition them and cuddling them. That's something that comes babies down but no one had figured out. Why or. how do you do that. Predictably so that even very fussy babies can become down and so what. I came to realize that babies are born with a reflects which is kind of an off switch for crying in an on which for sleep called a calming reflex and a babies. Have lots of reflexes are born with you. Know things like swallowing and sucking and blinking and crying. Even that is built into a baby so they have those abilities which are required of them to be able to survive right. a baby. Who didn't know had a swallow wouldn't be able to survive so these are survival skills that are kind of built in software into the computer but what wasn't realized that they have an off switch for crying and an on switch for sleep as well That's a reflex. So when i realized that it kind of opened up the idea about the fourth trimester i of course babies in utero of before. They're born there three three trimesters as the baby develops in. Then they're born but our babies kind of a weird way. They're not really ready to be. In the world they're mushy. They can't even smile yet. Based lift their heads. they're really fetuses. But we have to give birth to them because their heads are so gigged otherwise they wouldn't fit out right and so the job of a new parent is really to imitate the womb for the first four or five months of the baby's life.
