"AP's sports and Mike Reeves, it was a frantic finish at the Indianapolis 500, our Tom McKay reports. Josef Newgarden used a one lap shootout to grab the lead from 2022 champ Marcus Ericsson to win the Indy 500. You know, I wasn't looking to take anyone else out of the race, but I was going to put my car on the line to win. And I was either going to win the race or I was going to end up in the wall. Newgarden driving for team owner Roger Penske survived a chaotic final 40 miles, which saw the race stop three times for Rex. Major League Baseball the rays win a wild one over the Dodgers in Tampa Bay, correspondent Steve Carney provides the details. The Tampa Bay Rays used a 7th inning RBI ground out by wander Franco to break a ten ten tie and defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11 to ten. Both starters got hit around as Gavin stone allowed 7 runs in two innings of work, while Josh Fleming allowed ten runs in 6 innings, including 5 home runs, Tampa Bay finishes at ten game home stands 7 and three, while the Dodgers complete their longest road trip of 2023 with a four and 6 Mark. The Yankees used a 7 run third inning to defeat the Padres ten to 7, Aaron judge and Harrison Bader hit home runs to support winning pitcher Garrett Cole, who is now 6 and zero. This was a good team win today for sure. I mean, being able to kind of subdue them through the middle innings and keep the momentum. I thought played in our favor, but it's just such a luxury to have the offense. Other winners on the diamond were the guardians Orioles tigers royals, Blue Jays, brewers, reds, rockies, Astros, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Mariners, and braves on the PGA Tour emiliano grillo wins the Charles Schwab challenge in a playoff against Adam chic. It was his first PGA Tour victory. It over 7 and a half years. So it was great. The way it was definitely worth it, it was long, but it was worth it. "Four AP sports I'm geffen cool ball, the Seattle kraken aren't done yet after forcing a decisive game 7th correspondent Jim Bernard reports, the Seattle kraken, even their best of 7 playoff series with the Dallas stars at three games apiece with a 6 three victory. The kraken took control early and jumped to a four one lead minutes into the second period. Jordan Everly had two goals and one assist for the game. We played aggressive. I think that's what we had to do. I mean, you don't want to come out in these situations and sit back and go into the summer wondering why. In the NBA, the Phoenix Suns fired Monty Williams on Saturday two years after reaching the NBA Finals in a year after he was the overwhelming choice as the coach of the year. Phoenix was eliminated from the playoffs Thursday after a 25 point home loss against Denver in the Western Conference semifinals. Major League Baseball, a big day for Bo Bichette led the Blue Jays past the braves 5 to two correspondent John leatherbee reports the shet knocked in a pair of runs, including the go ahead in the 7th inning against the NL east leaders. A lot of really good teams we have to play. So yeah, I mean, it's good, but we've got another one tomorrow and we need to finish strong and get ready for the next one. Dylan cease taught 6 scoreless innings to help the White Sox top the Astros three to one. Really great. Finally, I think some of the work going into it paid off. So anytime you get a win and hold them scoreless, it's fantastic. Other American League winners, the Orioles rangers Yankees twins, Mariners and guardians. In the national league, Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan feltner was struck in the head by a line drive in the second inning against the Philadelphia Phillies, but was able to walk off the field on his own. The Phillies were 7 to four winners. Other NL results, the Dodgers won their fourth in a row four to two over the Padres. How Woke Liberals Ruined Aspen With Glenn Beaton

"Welcome to the program. Hi, Charlie. How are you? I'm doing well. So Glenn, I've been visiting Aspen for quite some time for people that have not been to Aspen. It is as close to heaven on earth in the summer, as you can get to. And that's one of the reasons why it has been so attractive to not just the billionaires, but the billionaires of the billionaires, the plutocrats of the plutocrats. Tell us about how Aspen used to be and what these people have done to it. Well, Aspen has a long and very interesting history. You know, it started as a silver mine town in the 1880s, 1870s. And it had its boom for a while. And at one point it was supplying one 6th of the country's silver supply, and one 16th of the world's silver supply. It was huge. They had electric lights. They had a Charlie down Main Street. It was really quite an advanced place for the time. Of course, the silver bus came. And they became virtually a ghost town. And they went through the quiet years up to the 30s and the early 40s. And then something quite amazing happened. A prominent wealthy industrialist out of Chicago called Walter peppy and his wife, Elizabeth, got enamored by the place, moved there, and drew with them all these Chicago connections. And they got acquainted with veterans of the tenth mountain division. The World War II skiing outdoorsy mountaineering division. Who were familiar with Aspen because they had trained nearby. So they saw Aspen. They saw the snow, they saw the beauty. They had a vision for it. And so this industrialist with his money and the tenth mountain people with their expertise and their attitude and their ambition started Aspen, we founded Aspen as a ski resort. And it quickly became sort of an intellectual retreat of these people were really very intellectual. Friends with mordor Adler and they started the Aspen institute in 1949. It took off. And it was wildly successful for a while. They had all kinds of terrific stuff going on there. They started the Aspen institute, the aspirin music festival, which is still in existence. The ideas festival came a little bit later. The place really became kind of like an Athens of the west or a Chicago in the rockies. It was tremendously successful and a wonderful place. It all kind of went to hell in the 60s when the Hollywood types and the drug types and Hunter S. Thompson types moved to town and dragged it down.

"AP sports, I'm Bruce Morton. Iowa sent shockwaves through the women's college basketball world. It held off previously unbeaten defending champs, South Carolina, 77, 73. AP national player of the year Caitlin Clark led the way for the hawkeyes with a semifinal record 41 points and said this game wasn't just a win. It was a showcase for her sport. I'm sure so many people wish this was a series of 7 games. That would be really, really fun. And I think we continued the series. It might go one way or the other every single time. The game Crocs aliyah Boston said this wasn't the way they wanted to finish, but they still had a season to remember. Just winning. 36 games. I feel like that's unbelievable. Sunday, the hawks will meet LSU, which took over in the fourth quarter and a 79 72 win over Virginia tech. Alexis Morris was game high with 27 points for a Bayou Bengal team that made it to the championship game for the first time in program history. Maybe the standing champions at the end maybe I can just let go and just be like, ha. Next up, the men's final four on Saturday with Florida Atlantic facing San Diego state followed by Miami versus Yukon. Pro basketball, the Celtics continued their push for the top seat in the east by besting shorthanded Utah one 22 one 14. Jason Tatum came through with a game high 39 points. Each game presents a different challenge. And so whatever we went through today was probably not going to be as hard as what the players are going to be like. Other NBA winners included the Knicks, grizzlies and sons. Baseball Jorge solar and jazz Chisholm each Homer to give Miami a two one decision over the mets. Dave ferry has details. So Lara put Miami ahead in the second inning in Chisholm provided insurance in the 8th. Jesus luzardo combined with three relievers on a four hitter with lizardo yielding two hits over 5 and two thirds. The Astros came from behind to beat the White Sox 6 three, and the rockies won at San Diego four to one. First Martin AP sports

"I don't know exactly know which direction they're trying to go in anymore, but they definitely will not be chipping off half the roster because they just won't do that. You mentioned the investments they've made recently in trying to sort of replenish the baseball operations side of things. I think it sort of raised eyebrows when strolling on fort was named their director of pro scouting. I'm curious sort of what you've observed of the organization in terms of their approach to trying to bring in outside talent on the non player side to perhaps advance the fortunes of the club. It seems like on the one hand they are sometimes willing to do that by reimagining baseball ops, but there's also a loyalty and nepotism element to this that's sort of hard to deny, so do you think that there's any potential for them to sort of change tact on that, absent an ownership change? I don't think so. I mean, even that research and development department at the rebuilding, they promoted their longtime video coordinator to now the head of that department. And he's really well respected in the Clubhouse. He does, you know, have that knowledge of knowing everything the rockies have done wrong and being willing to go. He's been talking to Broncos and other NFL teams to try to pick up what he came from them. But he was still hired from what's in the organization. So they are really, really loyal to the people they have all the big front office hires they've made to kind of replenish your departments. They've been promoted from within and then they went out and hired younger people to fill those roles that were left vacant by the people they promoted. So it's not always a bad thing. Like I said, I think promoted a video coordinator was a pretty good role. But I also think that day, Willie could benefit some of these spots from some fresh eyes and kind of just somebody who maybe is warped of another MLB team and has seen what they've done to be successful. Despite how bleak the situation is that the Iraqis have been bad for a while and also they've just been adrift for a while in a way that really no other team is seemingly and yet people go to rocky's games. They still have top ten attendants. I don't know whether that makes it so that the rockies aren't getting the signal that they're doing something wrong here because people will keep coming out to the games. But people do keep coming out to the game. So is that just because it's a nice place to see a game and the beer is cheap and there's something good about the spectator experience and the affordability of it. Why is Coors field still such a draw despite the fact that the rockies in theory shouldn't be? I mean, course field is awesome. $5 beards on a party deck. I mean, what more could a fan want? I think you can get in for under $10. You don't even have to park. There's a train that goes right there. So it is a very fun time. There are bars within feet of the stadium. So is just Friday and Saturday nights is just a good vibe for fans to go to. I think the thing about Denver and Colorado and I definitely fall into this category is that there are a bunch of us who move there because we love Colorado and we love the mountains, but we grew up on the other side of the country. So a lot of fans people who live in Colorado are fans. You know, the cardinals are fans and a Dodgers, nationals, whatever it is, because they grew up in all these other cities and then moved to Colorado later on. Of course field every night is like half the stadium is cheering for different team. According to stadium, has no idea what team is playing. And maybe a tenth of the stadium is there cheering for the rockies or they just like Charlie blackman or Chris Bryant because they are cups fan, but I mean, it's just a fun place to be who wouldn't want to go there? Yeah. So that is a different kind of course field hangover effect, I guess, maybe what? Maybe or I don't know, I guess it's not the worst kind of anyway. Recent contenders. I mean, semi recent, the last time they were good, a lot of it was because they had good homegrown players. They had some stars and the tragedy of it really was that they utterly failed to surround those stars with competent players, not even so much because they failed to spend as just because they couldn't evaluate free agents. It seemed like so they have a roughly middle of the pack pharma system now according to most of the rankings out there. Would it still be fair to say that the rocky strength or at least relative strength is their homegrown players? Is there a player development pipeline and you just have to hope that when those players arrive, they will not basically light money on fire every time they sign a free agent around that core? I don't know if it's their strength as much as it's the only way they want to go about building their team. They are not willing to go away from their scalp draft and develop model that they have been doing for probably the entire existence of the Colorado Rockies. I mean, I remember at the trade deadline last year, we were in San Diego. And the Padres, you know, it just got in Han Soto and Josh Bowen. Every other big name you

"And you just see his fastball and just hitting exactly where he wants to be. So if he can get that under control, he's not super comfortable if it's change up, but if he can throw a couple each game, he's going to be able to get back on track, but it really just comes down to those couple of centimeters with his wind up and delivery. And how do you think the rest of the rotation stacks up? Because we're just a few years removed here from the rockies having really a strong promising, largely homegrown rotation. And some of those guys are still around, whether it's Marquez or Freeland, but as a group, it's a little less fearsome than it once was. That's a good way to put it. It's really, it's really just marques and Freeland. Those two are super strong. I would expect Freeland are pretty good game. He looked really good in a world baseball classic, but behind that, they have Austin gomber, Ryan feltner and Jose arena. Gomber has some potential there. Is still developing. He still pretty early into his career and IRENA is kind of past his prime at this point, but still a passable starter, but they don't have any starting pitching depth right now. If somebody gets hurt, they're in trouble. All their top pitching prospects are like down and low way high a two to three years away. I don't see them being able to go out and find another starter if they need to because it's the rockies and they've never been able to do that. So last year at a rotation, what's the second worst in the league? I would be shocked if they're much better than not this year. Before we talk about any individual relievers, I want to ask a question about the team's philosophy to bullpen building because this has been a place where they have committed a one might argue curious amount of payroll. Over the last couple of years and they continued that trend with their extension of Daniel Bard last July. So what do the rockies think that the rockies are accomplishing by their approach to building a relief core? If I have learned anything in the last three years is that if you try to think too hard about what the rockies think they're doing, it's just going to give you a headache because they're really hard to explain they go one way they do all these extensions and then they just don't sign any top free agents the back that up or they go pick up a bunch of ads off waivers and they send all their profits down for no reason. So trying to figure them out is really hard. Like I said, kind of someone's starting pitching prospects, they don't have a lot of relief prospects to kind of help them out. So in order to build a bullpen, they had to go out and pick up guides wherever they could. So that was kind of what they did is off season. They picked a lot of guys off waivers. They made some small trades, they made a couple of free agents and a late in the game for them. But they really just needed bodies this year. And that's really all it comes down to. Where they concerned at all about Bard's performance in the WBC? I think they were concerned, but not concerned to the level where they think he had the gifts again. He really didn't look good when he left spring training to go join Team USA. He was kind of all over the place dad. So I don't think anybody was in the organization and was surprised with how he did considering how bad he looked before. But you know, he's had about a week. They've been able to play one from a little bit, kind of slow him down, but the thing about Bard now versus ten years ago is he has the mental understanding to kind of know, okay, I don't have the gifts again. I can call myself down and I can look at the video. I can practice it. He knows how to handle it now versus when he was a younger player. Looking up and down this step chart, you alluded to this earlier. Some players are past their primes and others are not nearly there yet. There aren't a lot of players who are sort of in that sweet spot. They're a lot of early 30s, mid 30s, players on this faster, which is not ideal if you don't have a good team, you hope that it's at least a young, bad team, so that you can kind of dream on guys getting better. So do you think that anyone here is really a candidate to be traded if, as expected, the rockies are out of it at the deadline, like, is there anyone there in visioning or that they picked up with an eye toward dealing midseason and maybe working in some younger players or is it just that the younger players aren't ready yet and someone has to play? You know, one word think they are thinking about trade deals already, but this team does not. I mean, Nolan Arenado, they traded obviously, but they do not typically make big trades. They didn't trade anybody laugh here at the deadline, even though they had CJ cron and Daniel Bard, who would have both been really good pickups for any contending team at the time. But they had like 7 free agents, I believe, after season, which is a lot for them. So one would think they would be trying to deal with some of those guys, but like I said, a really hard to read, if you think too much about what they're going to do, you really do get a headache. But I'm not entirely sure. The prospects, they were really hoping they were farther along, and it's kind of why they had to pick up some of these guys, but the thing that doesn't make a lot of sense about the rockies is they spent all off season. The whole second half of last year being like, we love our prospects. We're going to let them play, we don't really care what happens, but there are future, so we need to give them playing time. And then they kind of went out and got all these older players who will now take the playing time away from the prospects, which completely changes the direction they were trying to go in. So I'm not the strategy has changed. I don't know exactly know which direction they're trying to go in anymore, but they definitely will not be chipping off half the roster because they just won't do that. You mentioned the

"Larry kudlow on Fox business yesterday interviewing Republican senator roger wicker of Mississippi. Telling the truth about this stuff, because I watched this the first big balloon over Montana and so forth. And I don't think they totally the truth. I don't know why it took them a week to let this get this thing down. We should have either shot it down or captured it and brought it down. I mean, last question. And your judgment, senator roger wicker, are the bidens tell them the truth. Probably not the whole truth. But we will, in a setting where we can ask the penetrating questions, we'll do our best to get to the whole truth and to the extent it's not classified. We'll let you know. Also got to say this, Larry, I love the people of Montana. There are a lot of good folks there. And I know you wouldn't want us to be careless with their lives. There are places in the rockies. This could have been shot down. Yes. Without endangering the body.

"Rockies and Giants of finale from Coors Field today, then the day off, it's been 16 straight games for the Giants they have day off tomorrow. They travel to Chicago and then, of course, again, welcome with a day game at Wrigley Field was back to 1988, where they put lights at Wrigley. Three in a row. Friday, Saturday Sunday with with 11 20 Pacific starts one more against the Rockies. Now this seems strange because the Rockies on the season or 63 76, but they are 45 26 at home. They have not been swept at home this year. Weird 45 26 at home are the Rockies. 18 and 50 away, So they have been a tough home team. But the Giants have done well again, a place that has not been a great place for them, Of course, Field 11 and four on the season against the Rockies. They have this one and then three more on the road against the Rockies, so we are not done. After today, Let's give you the keys to the game. Those are sponsored by Geico, a proud partner of Major League baseball. Well, keys to the game. Let's do what Logan Web did yesterday and that's go seven inning strikeout. Six. And out of his 14 contact outs. 10 were ground ball. Keep the ball down in Colorado. Sounds like a great thing, right? Well, it's easier said than done. Another key is Anthony DeSclafani. By the way, we'll get into him a little bit later, but the last time out great outing Coming off injuries. They beat the Dodgers 32 over the weekend. He didn't get a decision in it, but he went six innings and only gave up two hits and no one runs. The key to that was he gave the bullpen arrest. Remember Saturday and Sunday went bullpen game Saturday night so well, but Sunday they beat Walker Buehler with bullpen game. So Anthony de Stefani by going six on Friday really gave the bullpen of breaks a nice job by Anthony School funding one of the keys to the game. Continue that give the bullpen and a little bit more rest. Keep the ball down like Logan Web did yesterday. They should be in good shape by the way. They've outscored the Rockies 22 to 8 so far in the series will come out swinging in the first two of this one time Now for today's injury report that sponsored by Brown and Tolan, Physicians discover care where you are. With Brown and Tolan physicians a couple of pitching, I don't know if their injuries as much as anything. But according to Gabe Kapler, and he spoke this morning, Alex Wood has turned the corner as far as Covid is concerned, not sure what he's going to be back. But he was very, very ill, so he has turned the corner and that is good news. Not as good with Johnny Cueto. He's not going to throw He's going to shut down for about 10 Days and again. Today is September eight. So you're looking at? He's not going to throw until the 18th maybe Johnny Cueto before the end of the season, but not sure. So that is your injury report, sponsored by Brown and tolling physicians will get to The lumber and the hitting side of things against John Gray is Anthony de Stefani and John Gray. Today a couple of Moore's will take you through the rest of the scoreboard as well. The Dodgers their biggest challenge against the Cardinals will tell you about it as we take a look at the N L West is that one is obviously close. Diamond notes. Continue getting.

Coming up on austin gobber and about why it other than just the hot month that everything in his profile suggest that he really can be a key piece for the rockies. Moving forward that they've got the right guy To to be more than when he was projected to be a lot of it having to do with things like fastball. Spin right and and those kinds of fun technical details Baseball people have to dive into sometimes but I can't wait to see him. Get back out there and pitch a bit more. Because i've been very very intrigued He he may just have the perfect mix of everything you need to be successful as a rockies pitcher Yeah a love drew. Keep up the great work by friend. Always always look forward to it and these conversations and knows maybe the rockies put on a decent road trip here before the all-star break and at least leave us with a lot of interesting thoughts during the never my friend. I'm all about the four pillars to stud pass rushers to stud corners and away we go. I'm shifting a little more even more corners in baseball at least for the rockies. Just build you starting rotation. Just keep working on a hammer at out until you fix it. Say i haven't done it before. Never and that's why this team is never good. "Best player i've ever watched personally. And it was a privilege to cover them every single day and it was always remarkably kind to me. But yeah. I mean if you're if iraqis community of course you hope the rockies win a world series before he does when you're just flat out told no you're not good enough. I'm going somewhere. I'm not trying to make it all. Looks like it's been it's been puppies and rainbows for the rockies is an organization but when a player demands a trade and sends video well before. Yeah it bothers me a little bit more than just oh. The organization was awful to me and it wasn't really that case. So the question for you drew. Is you look at this team. They're finding ways to win a thirty one seventeen at home. What do the rockies do at the trade deadline. I saw you guys tweeted a back. There's about an hour ago. There's rumors about marquez. There's obviously the trevor story. That john gray stuff. We've been talking about that for quite some time. Are the rockies going to move on for many key major pieces before that deadline heads at this point my take on it is that i believe they will trade trevor story. I don't believe that they will trade any of their starting pitching I also think they'll move on from several veteran guys who are like on like c. J. crawling michael gibbons Maybe a daniel bard. Though he does have one more year on his contract may not get them may not move the needle that much had struggles this year but story. I do think we'll get traded after the all star game as they've said it's one of those things zone gives you a qualifier when that news came out and there's like rocky say they're not gonna trade trevor story before the all star break and my twitter feed broke out with people just think..

"Imagine if the joker can't play the last five minutes because he's got to save them for game two so put your backup center in. It's it's tough. It is why it's hard to to complete a baseball team. Even though you know we talk about building teams and salary caps and all that are not no salary cap It's still difficult because you got a lot pieces to put together to complete a baseball team and if you don't have starting pitching but you're bullpens great well by then. It doesn't matter because things are out of hand and of course now the rockies we see it the other way around with this bullpen worse than it's ever been perhaps drew to fix it. Stop the bleeding. What do you do. I know there's a lot of twitter chat. There's a lot of stuff going on as far as the rockies make some moves the only attractive names perhaps trevor storage on gray. Today they move some guys around and try to piece together a better. What would what do we see. Here happened with those two guys in particular. I mean at this point. And i know this is not the answer that anybody wants to hear I would just play it out. Yeah i i. I really don't think you know. They're gonna have the money to sign. Trevor story in john gray if they want and i understand those guys saying you know i might wanna know who the next g amazon's is gonna be do questions. But they're not chomping to get out of town by any means and so you can trade them i. If it was up to me. I would probably still be trying to trevor story because i think you could get a decent or for him and i would absolutely target pitching Starters or otherwise to move guys into the bullpen if you have to But that's exactly. Why wouldn't move john gray. They've got money to spend one of three people. I can think of in the history of the organization. Who's really figured out how to pitch course field. He doesn't mind being here. And while you know you might have a couple of year rebuild on your hands and so it might be. It's an odd time behind and a decent size. You're gonna have to pay him. You know more than he's been getting paid but still not gonna break the bank and you could go for either of those guys. So i really don't think you have to do a full tear down rebuild because other actors don't have any bad contracts on the books you know like to see them rebuild their farm system but they could also just as easily go out. Hit big in free agency. Bring in you know totally reworked their bullpen. Bring in one big bath and get right back to being a mid eighties win caliber team. If that's the direction they wanna go. Not what i would do. But you can to recruitment joining us from dnv rockies How about this one as far as injuries looking to get some guys back. Kyle freeland brendan rodgers. I mean we. We're getting down to maybe down here. We're getting close. Yeah they've been out there playing actual baseball games with the isotopes getting it in. I think we could be within a week or so of seeing those guys back. Yeah not should be an injection of good energy and something to look forward to and and something to watch and again. "Especially not well suited to deal with something that i've looked. I've done the research. I've probably done more research on this than anybody who's never worked for the rockies and maybe more than people who have but the core sealed hangover effect is very very real. That doesn't mean that you can't do anything about it. That's the difference between an excuse. The reason excuses the sun was in my eyes. The rockies need to be aware of and prepare for the changes that happened with baseball movement. both from the pitcher's hand to the plate and off of the bat when they go on the road. It's a different environment. it just is. And if you're not prepared for it you're going to get eaten up by it. And that's exactly what's happening right now. This team just isn't built to hit on the road. No rockies team really is but this one's especially poorly suited for it. Yeah no question about an especially coming off the heels of a very strange series over the weekend drew and add some great. I mean just split with the reds which that was great but a lot of missed opportunities in that series. And of course you know knowing you have san diego coming up would have been really nice if the rockies found a way to do it because they had they had two games. I mean could have swept this team. They were that close. It was crazy they should have swept them with a semi competent. Bullpen weep. that series Easily you know. It's none of the games should have even been particularly close right that last one in las up six one going into the eighth inning that's not a close baseball game with a competent bullpen We obviously the one where they were up ten nothing and then it got kinda close and they pulled away stole a little bit and then the other one that they lost it was another bullpen implosion. And it's just like yeah. That's it's brutal for sure You know you like seeing the emergence of the young hitters and you know great stories and josh fuentes and connor joe and stuff like that but it is kind of brutal when at the end of the night you're still walking off the field with a loss because a handful of dudes just couldn't throw strikes and and that's the other thing too. These aren't even like your standard bullpen. Implosion of your of brian. Sean way davis You know leaving cutters right over the middle the plate that get deposited four hundred fifteen phoebe on the fence. At least the other guy had hit the baseball you know they. They lost the game the other night on like five walks two wild pitches. The the tying run and winning run both came in on wild pitches in the ninth inning. That's just giving almost literally giving the baseball and just like you mentioned it was with brian. Shaw with with those guys. "Let's see what happens now. I'll be very curious that goes. They get a little bit of a break. Now with the you know the seven inning doubleheaders. That's four innings. There lasted they're going to have to pitch at coors field But the rockies offense has shown an ability at times especially at home to break out and get hot and do some things. I think we're still waiting for and expecting to see the best of both charlie bachman and trevor story Meanwhile i think what seeing exactly what we're gonna see how to rhyme toppy ever for ever and ever. This is just who he was in the minors. This is the rhyme all toppy experiences just translating straight over not striking out not hitting for power hardly ever but just being on based three times a game. You know it's going a bunch of runs doing bang. And so i think they do actually have an opportunity to win some ball game especially at home They're starting to get ramped up. They see saint louis. They know they're about to head out to saint louis this Josh quintez cousin plays for them now. Yeah pronounce his name. It's hard to remember was it was so. Hey how about some injury updates for us. When have you heard anything. I keep wondering kyle freeland. Yeah no i mean they. They keep giving us like updates. That have like no time things like. He threw off the mound. Today he threw forty five pitches. And we're like dope you know and it's just like yeah i. I think he's close. You know it's been similar with brennan. You know there was some in the rumor mill that they might go for the mlb debut of ryan. Roulston still have to wait a little bit of for that though. I do think you know. He's the top pitching prospect for the team. He will debut at some point this year. you this one of those really weird things about that still lingering from the pandemic that i guess we are still technically and here is that you know the no minor league seasons. So when a guy's not on the major league roster cast alami showed up to spring training this year look like never going to baseball foreigners life..

I could see it being any of those things you would have thought if it was just that last one though that it would happen before the season right after the trade or whatever so did something happen You know part of me thinks maybe is that. They've made a decision one way or the other about trevor story. Either that they're not gonna trade them or that they Are going to try to sign him but they want somebody else league that contract. Maybe it is a ploy to keep trevor story. Maybe it's putting somebody else in charge to to be in charge of the trade trevor. So every time on the podcast. I talk about a trade of trevor story john gray potentially because they're in the last years of the deal i.

"And i don't think about guy. I don't think he thinks very much about rockies fans feelings right now and that sex. Yeah i mean again. It's hard not to go back to signing of the contract is this more of a means to an end and dig montfort says it's a career contract while there was a pretty convenient three three year. Opt out no matter. What so if nolan doesn't get traded if he doesn't force a trade down the road then yeah you got the opt out down the road so it's a very interesting thing and drew one more for you man just on the other players. You just said it with john. Greg even guys like trevor story. How do you not in some sense. Take it a little personally. That nolan was basically wanting out because they the players around him weren't good enough essentially that's what he said. That bridage wasn't building this team up around him good enough. How do you not take that personally. If you're anybody else on this team. I thought about that since the very first time he made it public comments about not being happy with the state of the team. And you know. I sent this on the podcast. The other day Because my guy. Patrick was was kind of where you are or certainly certainly more at the beginning of it like this big deal and i was and he said you guys are professionals. They understand that guy's gotta be and you know what some of them do. I'm sure they were guys in that clubhouse to go. Hey adam same thing and there are some guys in the clubhouse who were in between just like rockies fans some of saying big deal some of them are saying man that's kinda shady but whatever one's guy ryder die doesn't matter that's my don't like that but whatever and some yes. There are some guys in not clubhouse now and for a while you weren't fully invested the way i was fully invested. I was rider die as a member of the colorado rockies trying to win a baseball game every single day. And you had your eye on the next thing. And you're going to the media with how you feel disrespected because the team's not good enough and how you want to get to saint louis is. That's where the real team manson with a real fans on and at some point. Yeah when that guy. Isn't there anymore you just at the very least you know you relax a little. But i do remember that clubhouse. You're not happy about what atta right. Had to say. And yeah. I mean i wouldn't be. That was my team made me. I'm a sap right. I'm crying at the mighty ducks show. They just put on disney. Plus so i get it like. That's me we're a team man. I thought we were a team. Yeah i'm with you drew. I i am. I'm trying to be that guy either. I'm not trying to paint a pretty picture for the rockies season and. i don't think you're doing that either. But you're calling it what it is. The comments were something drew. We're up against a break. Man always appreciate your time throughout. Hey throughout your twitter handle so can follow along. 'cause we we gotta get we gotta get that Connection with true craftsman and the whole out. Here yeah yeah. I'm andrew christmas also at the end. Vr rockies. We're tweeting all the time talking. All the time trying to have fun all the time while still recognizing that the team isn't very good down. That's that's all you can do my friend that's all you drew. Appreciate your man. We'll catch up with you next week. Thanks spreading. I thirty nine minutes after the hour. I love that segment. That was great. That was great andrew as an insider. "Is one of those goofy rules in sports though because once you hit a home run. The ball goes over the fence. The whoever's on base is already counted as a run it. You said it's a formality right. You don't really. I mean technically need to run on the basis. But you don't what's what's the point home run but it is. We do like that pomp circumstance. Kind of thing right. We like that still but theoretically it's wants. The ball goes over the fence. The play is over the score. It's a score. And however many people were on base. It is as you all know. I'm teaching your baseball right now. So the fact that he passed him is one of those goofy rules. If the balls in play that makes sense makes sense. You know if it was a pop fly out to left field. And then he drops it that that's different but once the ball clears fence plays dead. It's over so i mean that's what the rule book states but but. How often does that ever happen. I can't imagine that happens. Ever i drew goodman's like i've never seen it and again. The bolt did go in toppy as glove. Very rare. chance of that coming out of his glove is just the way he hit the fence in the ball. Popped out this crazy man. But that's again hey rockies got it got one and it was goofy. One sends a teller going to the mount tonight. John gray tomorrow. How about chris owings. Though chris owings was fantastic. You know getting him getting him involved early. I mean he was rockin. Charlie blackmon got a hit. I mean it was good to see it was good to see those guys like men come out with his his themes are his walkup song and the crowd is singing along. Felt normal but then it still was strange. Going over to third base nolan and not seeing nolan up to the plate into that little weird push thing that he does within the gets the bat and does that weird kind of like he's doing a push up up. There's just it sucks it. Does i see why fans are extremely upset. But the bottom line is nolan was going to be gone anyway. He didn't feel that the rockies were doing enough to build around him he was vocal about it too. Bright bright disagreed in some regards brightest disagreed and stuck up for this unit. I know you guys get so mad. When i try to add some logic to the situation you just want to hate jeff bridage and i'm not saying you should love him. He's the guy that claim that being a general manager. Baseball's the same thing as a brain surgeon. They're just geniuses these general managers but he said no. I do feel like we're building a good enough team. Yelling match ensued nolan said. I wanted i want out. And that's where that's hey could have calm the situation down. But what did nolan one. Where i mean what what was what was pointing out of like. That's what i would have said if i were bridage. Where are we not building okay. We tried with the closers. we tried with the bullpen. We were paying a lot of money to that bullpen. And all of those guys in the bullpen. The way davis. They were supposed to be good on paper they were good and then they came to colorado and they were not good so bright. It's did they were throwing money around..

"It's going to be more or less. Oh what's wrong with the dodgers if they somehow lose the series and we had a text yesterday dixon saying this is gonna be the only time there are over five hundred nope there at five hundred or over whatever probably the best record. No today best record is right now after this. You're not gonna get any better. well you could get. You could get better. I mean you could go to jail. You're still at one hundred twenty percent or something. Yeah that's that's math. Your undefeated april's typically a good month for the rockies. I mean everybody's freaking out about nolan being gone yeah. There was some plays there. That if nolan's there he makes those plays but let's let's face it. I mean in this game is being that replacement essentially how to hit had an rbi so made a couple of plays on the defensive side so at least for one game you walk away and you go. Wow all right still going to be bad because again even the way they won that game. I'm i'm watching the game going. How is it two to one how it was two to one after the third in it and i don't even did the. The dodgers just took the lead. Once i think and that was that goofy home run. It should have been two to nothing. But because of because bellinger for god and none of us knew the rules drew goodman on the calls like never seen this before. You just know you're not supposed to pass a runner going going going any base for because the way it worked. Turner saw or thought that he thought the remote hoppy caught the ball so he turns around tag. I and bellinger's like no. I see the ball bouncing up in the stands. He didn't catch it go. He didn't say that though he's just running by him and you kinda just stop. He should have been screaming. He dropped it but instead they just do this awkward little pass and then that's that lost. That cost run. So that's that's what it took for the rockies to one with these weird plays and again the other one was the the the butterfly kershaw catches. It fi doesn't catch it. You have a double play..

yesterday nolan five hundred today april third two Turner one game over five hundred one one hundred twenty percent double play bellinger of dixon Once

"Northern colorado is opening day colorado rockies getting set to go up up against just the dodgers so way to start it. And i've already told you guys my game of the week this week is this game. It's opening day so for for one at least once this year. I'm gonna say the rockies is my game of the week drew crossman joining us from dnv are rockies through always fantastic to have mr crease on the show all right man. You got a lot of nervous energy out there. There's a lot of fans out there that you know are still upset still very upset saying they're not gonna watch they're not gonna listen. Whatever we we're looking for some nuggets here drew. We're looking for some positives. Anything that you can give us that would lead rockies fans to believe. This season isn't going to be a dumpster. Fire pretty negative. Start there. but we're gonna get. Let let me do this with the caveat. I'll say one thing up front. I predicted the colorado rockies win seventy baseball games this year okay and i've only predicted them to win. More games than they ended up winning twice Just to throw that out there but if you are looking for silver linings is actually like pretty much every player on this roster has something interesting to look at something to root for raimondo. Poppy as your new leadoff guy can. He continue to hit over three hundred as you know. There's that matter if he doesn't hit for power. How does he continue to develop as a fielder. Obviously you know. Trevor story and charlie black men are amazing to watch every single day You're taking those guys josh days. How about him getting the day. Second base first time in years not knowing are an auto third who was just as his cousin. His undrafted overlooked never attack prospect cousin. Who's got absolutely everything to prove if any of these guys should have a hallmark movie made about him You know there's cj krona's a veteran who's been under looked his entire career. A ryan mcmahon. I think almost all of us believe he's got star power just waiting to burst out of there. And it's probably the best starting rotation that colorado rockies ever had so you know if they're going to surprise people this year they need to be incredibly healthy. They need to be a bit lucky. All of their young guys need to take a big step forward and none of those things are impossible. They're just unlikely to happen all together. But i do actually truly believe this is going to be a very fun team to watch. Because there's a lot of guys who are they gonna prove this year that they belong in the big which super cool and fun to watch guys prove that or did they don't which is going to be sad for them individually and frustrating for fans to watch a losing season but then at least will know and moving forward the rockies can have a more clean break into what should be their next era of baseball. We're talking to drew crease. Dvr rockies drew you mentioned it the health aspect and that's one key ingredient here if the rockies want to have any shot at all last week was kind of a rough week as we as we began approaching opening day. We heard the terrible news about over. We heard Tough news of the with with kyle freeland and that side of it. What what does the injury situation look like with with some of these guys and wind. Can we expect them to come back. Scott drew i never even. He's going to play baseball again. Yeah that was really really tough and we just have to wait for the real medical experts to get back to us on scott and he's hoping he can pitch again and maybe this year but that y- you don't wanna count too much on that or worry too much about that I think freeland and rodgers could be back within the month. Which is good news. Yeah yeah hey starting the season without those guys but it sounds like they can still have relatively full seasons and that's really what this year is going to be about those types of guys you you you find out how big a part of your future kyle. Freeland and brendan rodgers. And the worst news actually isn't losing baseball games. Sorry folks is more than likely going to happen but the the worst news be lost seasons from young players. You wanna see what you've gotten these guys. Especially a guy like brendan rodgers who we barely seen him so Another guy to be excited about once. He takes the field. Yeah no question about it. I mean i think drew if no one was on this roster right now because that's the elephant in the room right nolan earn auto and sad day. Everybody's feeling weird even the ones that are going to the games if he was on this roster right now what do you think the same roster save for known are nano is it's still. It's still kind of a rough team. I mean that's they were rough. Last year's two months it was weird season. But would you say about this. Baseball team does nolan. How much of a difference nolan make group. you know. I think it would make a pretty big difference see. Would kind of slide a lot of guys into the space. I've actually said this on our podcast a couple of times and it frustrates me to do. I'd actually talked about. Cj crown as a really good potential acquisition for the rockies for a couple of years power babic and protect nolan hitting like the these banning fourth. Today i believe so that. That's the kinda. He like austin gombar. Some of these other additions they made would have been perfect for our team with nolan. I understand they got on her back for nolan. But even something like the weird thing they just did like i think at midnight last night adding jolie shopping back Like okay. I guess that's happening but even like it would make much more sense on a team. That had nolan aren't auto on it because these are all very nice complimentary pieces cronin and these guys to club that would contend but these guys almost certainly won't be so yeah. I think he can make a huge difference. What do you make them automatic contenders especially with these injuries with over going down in particular that that bullpens going to be a gigantic question. Mark now and so I think it relies more on that. But he certainly would have helped no question about it Drew talk to about so josh. Quintez you talked about him for a moment. it is kind of surreal isn't it. It's kinda strange. I mean one of the most beloved. I'm not even gonna say rocky one of the most beloved colorado sports figures nolan earn auto. Goes away drama a lot of bad blood now. Rockies fans are still very very upset well his cousin get stick to go. That's a pretty bizarre story. If you think about it right. Like if john elway been replaced by like steve elway or something strange like never played for a top school or anything and you just kind was out there but yeah i mean it's it really is a great story and and as tempting as it is you know to to compare him to. His cousin are talked about that connection. Josh really is his own man and and he's a great great guy Really outgoing personality really Charming and charismatic phenomenal defender. Which is something. I think people are gonna realize it's going to be hard not to make comparisons because he's over there third days. He's really really really good with the glove so he can add with the bat and it turns out he's just figured out something and none of the scouts are evaluators of seen it And he can hit the way he did last year. And through all of spring training and part of the reason why he's in their body second today if it turns out he's a thing. This is an extraordinary fine for the rockies organization and i know no one wants to give them credit for anything right now and fair enough but at least give josh credit for the amount of hard work and determination takes her for all thirty teams in baseball. The pass on you thirty times each like three entire drive you. How many rounds are in the major league draft and so you know and and then the known pick up on him as a prospect. There is opening day third base for a major league baseball team. And who knows what the future holds for. Josh went as we didn't know on opening day. Two thousand sixteen with the future health. Trevor story he was the rockies tenth best prospect he struck out too much. He was a prop project on defense. You know and then he hits two home runs day one again zach cranky and we're just like a okay so they played a game. Play the game absolutely my man all right trevor story. You mentioned it. What is it looked like for. Trevor i mean i gotta admit drew. I'm going into the season like. Oh let's enjoy while we have him. I guess in my brain. I've almost have almost said my goodbyes. Even though i'm still we're still gonna watch trevor stories throughout the season. But how how long will he be rock..

steve elway john elway trevor Scott nolan kyle freeland Last year Josh Today kyle Mark charlie thirty times last week brendan rodgers this week Drew last year Trevor twice

"Sooner rather than later and he got out. Now i am not an. I'll say there's a bazillion times. I'm not excusing. What they got or lack thereof in return for nolan. I wish they could have got a name. That would have made us all feel better. They didn't they botched. I get it. I don't know that anybody who was willing to dance with them. And maybe this is where it landed. I don't have that information. I'm not privy to that. I have my thoughts. I have my opinions. I do know this. It's never as easy as us. Outside of the business. Think it is so i will say that again. Not excusing jeff bridage. This whole thing started with nolan being frustrated that they weren't doing enough to build around him jeff. Bridges response was less than ideal. Nolan and a screaming match ensued. I don't know again. I don't know how deep that went. But apparently after that moment nolan was done and he felt disrespected he said as much. There's a lot of disrespect in that office. That's what he said and there was no going back. we'll brady. Why didn't they just fire. Jeff bridage and hire new. Gm this year and all would be happy. Okay off the top of your head name hot and up and coming guy that is up for a promotion that is going to be. Must name a george peyton general manager for for the rockies jonah. There you go it. That's about as crazy as it sounds right like just go hire another guy. Who and if that guy was that good. Why is he available right now. Come on. i've heard this seriously. They should've fired brian. It's in the off season and hired a new. Gm this post. I guess we're still in covert but this is recovery mode for baseball. I don't see a lot of teams like the rockies going out saying hey we're gonna go overhaul this hiring a new gm and then he's coming in and twenty twenty one and we are basically laying waste everything we know we're rebuilding was starting from scratch. That's what you won't know. I wanted him to get aggressive in free agency. Low to mid market teams are not getting aggressive and twenty twenty one and again we can look at that more. I know the rockies didn't not trying to defend what they've got in return for knowing just all in thrown out there is. This was a no win situation. Once jeff brightest nolan got into the screaming match was it jeff bright. It's his fault in response to nolan's frustration. Yes argo there. But after that it wasn't going to work. I what did i say at the beginning of the twenty twenty season if the rockies do not make the playoffs in twenty twenty.

Nolan brian Jeff george peyton nolan twenty twenty this year jeff twenty jonah times rockies season twenty one
